Contemplating

Have you ever contemplated,
on the times you've hesitated.
Then blamed old lady luck for passing by .

When the dice of life was thrown,
have you thought if you'd only known.
Then taken a deep breath and heaved a sigh.

Where  would you be today,
if those moments had gone your way.
Have you often wondered,  did I really try.

Do you  believe in fate,
and that now it is too late.
Well then, time has past for contemplating why.?

DAWN

An angel, robed in spotless white,
Bent down and kissed the sleeping Night;
Night woke to blush; the sprite was gone;
Man saw the blush, and called it Dawn.

LIFE

The horse and mule live 30 years
And nothing know of wines and beers.
The goat and sheep at 20 die
And never taste Scotch or Rye.

The cow drinks water by the ton
And at 18 is mostly done.
The dog at 15 cashes in
Without the aid of rum or gin.

The cat in milk and water soaks
And then at 12 short years it croaks.
The modest, sober, bone-dry hen
Lays eggs for noggs, then dies at 10.

All animals are strictly dry:
They sinless live and swiftly die;
But sinful, ginful, rum-soaked men
Survive for threescore years and 10.
And some of them, a very few,
Stay pickled till they are a 100 and 2.

Lightly snowing here at the moment. Not a lot on today just getting the meal ready for noon.  I didn't hear any firecrackers or guns go off last night. We were all sound asleep.
Jenny, love your new avatar!

Mary Ann, thank you will go look ,sounds interesting.

Bubble, thank you for the new start..how true contemplating is..one should be thankful.....not sorry..

Better go get my ribs on to cook.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Happy 2020!

Good new year morning to all!  It is a sunny and not too cold one here in North Carolina.  A beautiful day.  I didn't hear any fireworks last night but I was sound asleep at midnight so they could have happened and I wouldn't have known anything about it.

Not too much planned for today.  We will have nice rib steaks with french fries and some sort of green veggie for our "first of the new year" dinner and pound cake for dessert.  The steaks are Kansas City Steaks and are always a very welcome Christmas gift from my Virginia kids.

So nice to see the new room and the wise words, Bubble.  Thank you.

Nice, also, to see the posts yesterday from all of the S&F friends.  Mycheal, it is always good to see your name appear, even if it is not often enough, and you could never be a headache.

Amy, it seems that your van keeps giving you the "worries" while with me it is always something in this house.  David discovered a water puddle under the hot water heater so the plumbers will be replacing that on Friday.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that in the meantime it won't get any worse and flood the basement as it did the last time.  Most maddening of all, it is only 4 years old.  But, because it is still under warranty I only need to pay for the labor.  Not all bad news, at least.

Breakfast is calling.

Happy New Year to all my FRIENDS!  I'm thankful in this New Year that I have all of you!  And also, that our friendship has this place in which to grow!

I had my pork roast in the crock pot overnight and I've added the sauerkraut this morning.  My German grandfather would be proud of me.  He said, "You HAVE to eat sauerkraut on New Year's Day to be sure you're lucky for the year."  I think he might agree that I certainly was lucky in 2019.

I have to go get myself ready to be seen in public.  I'll try to get back later.  Enjoy your day.

P.S.  I didn't hear any fireworks either and neither did Mickie because they scare her and she'd have been tight up against me.

Driveway is shoveled off and just the trails for the dogs need to be done but I will do that with the snow blower. Our meal has been changed to later in the day giving my neighbour time to get a his plow jobs done. While I was watching the birds come down to the feed a beautiful fox scampered by!! No camera in hand of course. :(
Phyliss, I always say I can handle things outside the home..vehicle etc. There are three of us with hubby's that have had /are having health problems and we all say as long as they are well....we can do it!!!

Jane, no black eyes peas??? Kyle and David love sauerkraut but I shall pass on that one.

Happy New Year to you all. The residence folks hired an orchestra and so we brought in the new year with style.  I must confess that I did not make it to midnight but the intention was good.  So now I'll watch some football and watch the snow melt

Lots of whitecaps on Lake Michigan, kind of high, too.

Good morning everyone..

Today is to be milder and the neighbour is coming over this afternoon to help clean the chimney. Need to let the fire go out till after he is done.  Will take Kyle into town to get his blood work done this morning.

We had a great time yesterday with our neighbours , lots of fun and laughter for sure.  We are truly blessed with good neighbours.

Don't need to cook for a while with all the food, still haven't learned to cut back on cooking....maybe someday.

Lloyd, need you back in here..so take each day as it comes and get well enough to get out of the hospital.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up but I'm hoping the "attem" will join in as the day progresses.

Today is the day of Frankies appointment with the specialist so we'd appreciate a few prayers on her behalf.  I know she's nervous but her mother will be here to go with her to the appointment.  I'm sure the results wont be instant and we'll have to wait around for the results.  Those pins and needles can get very uncomfortable.

Still saying prays for LLOYD and waiting to hear his results.   It could be a while for that, too!

The weather has turned cold again here.... 23º but so far, no snow.  We are supposed to get that next Tuesday and Wednesday!  I'll have to remember to get my car under cover so that if its enough or the snow blower, my neighbor will be able to make his way through the driveway with no blocking.  At least, I won't have to go anywhere in it.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone, hope everyone woke yesterday with a clear head and not fuzzy from too much celebrating bringing in the New Year. At our ages I think those days have all passed. Ihad a good day yesterday at my son's home, just the 3 of us. My DIL made baked stuffed shrimp and they were so good, better than any I had before. We did a lot of talking. I finally saw all the pictures they took on their Hawaii vacation. They were 6 adults and my great grandson. What beautiful scenery with all the beautiful green where ever they went.  My DIL even asked me if I wanted a hair cut and I said YES, and she cut  it and I told her short. It really was gettin too long for me. I have always said she is the second daughter I always wanted. Yesterday was a nice sunny day for a change, no rain or snow or sleet .

BUBBLE  thank you for the New Year graphics and the goodies that followed. I like the one from George Eliot .

Sorry I am not replying to everyone. I woke withh my right eye feeling odd and like I have something in it, hard to see from it.

DON  nothing going on in this place for the New Year. There used to be a lady here that always took orders for a Chinese restaurant, go pick them up and we would have a party in the Community room. Always a good time. Sadly she is now in Heaven and no one does anything. One of her sons made wine and she would gring a few bot tles and we all had a little of it. By about 10 people would start heading back to their apartments. It was always a good time and no witch around to say we could not do this or that and we pitched it to make sure the room and the kitchen were all clean so she couldn't yell. All they have now is Bingo on Wednesday night and a card game on Thursday night. Sad isn't it?

LLOYD  so sorry you are in the hospital again and waiting for heart surgery. I will be praying for you. Keep us in the loop so we know how you are doing. Hope Nancy or one of the family can come in and let  us know how you are doing.

SHIRLEY  I need some of JOAN's Angel dust on the nights I cannot sleep.

JANE  prayers for Frankie. hope nothing serious.

Have a great day everyone.

Take care, All.

Good morning, Every  Buddy who is looking in.  It's a dark, rainy day here in Auburn, Alabama.  Our football team lost their game yesterday and we are all sorry about it.  Our guys played well, but the other team was more aggressive and they won substantially.

Not much else going on here today.  I will be staying inside most of the day due to the rain which I think may last all day.

Have a nice day, Every One.

I just had a phone call from LLOYD.  He is still in the VA Hospital waiting for open heart surgery.  He said they are not going to do it at that hospital but will be moving him to another VA Hospital in Columbia, MO where there are heart specialists on the staff.  He said it would be a couple of days and that his granddaughter will come in and let us know what's happening or Nancy will call me and I'll fill you in.  I told him to do whatever works best.  He asked us to keep up the prayers on his behalf and I promised that we would.  That's all I have so far.  He had to hang up because a nurse was waiting to give him a shot.  If I hear more, I'll let everyone know.  And if his granddaughter posts,  I'll be reading just like the rest of you.

Also, I appreciate the prayers on Frankie's behalf.  And so does she.  I told her about all of you and she thinks you're all GREAT!

Prayers also for every Friend, God watch over you with loving arms.

Janie,  my prayers and love are with Frankie - and her Mom and Grandmom.  These "adopted" kiddoes of ours are all special!

Thanks, too, for the information on LLoyd.  I also thought he was just going in for a checkup.

Eye is better but I don't yet feel confident to drive on the busy streets and manage a parking lot.  That means I've had to ask #2 son to help me with some errands in the next couple of days.  Hate to do that because dil isn't yet driving after her hip replacement, he's suddenly busy at work and I know he's "up to his ears in alligators", as one of my friends likes to say (I have no idea why!!!!  :D )

Nothing else going on in my corner of the world (that I know of....)

Wishing a Good Evening to Everyfriend.

JANE  glad you will be the one Lloyd or Nancy calls. Seems this heart surgery came up suddenly, at least he didn't talk about it before. Any news yet on Frankie's tests? Prayers for both of them.

SHIRLEY  prayers for you, too to get help with your headache.

Better get a move on, have no idea wha time my "help" will be here  today. Yesterday had one I hadn't  seen in months and one I like, always looking for something to do.

Hope the sun is shining where you are.

Good Morning Everyfriend! It's been an eventful morning!

First, Frankie's tests showed a liver problem.  The good news is, it's treatable!  Her Mom, my daughter, is still here and will leave to return to Maryland when Frankie goes to work at 2.

I haven't heard any more from LLOYD but he thought they were going to move him today so maybe no news until that's completed.  He was taking medication for his heart and waiting for news.  This must be the news.  Not good but at least they're doing something now.

SHIRLEY, I hope you're doing something, too.  We need you happy and healthy!  And full of cole slaw.

I better get something done around here today.  I've been goofing off long enough.

I wish you all a happy day!

I just had to stop and tell Jane that I am so glad Frankie's health issue can be treated.  That is good news.  Now waiting to hear good news from Lloyd.  Not a good start for the new year, but hopefully,  things will go weel with his surgery. Glad he will be a place where they specialize in his heart problem.  You hear so much of that type of surgery these days.  I think the medical field has come a long way with that type of surgery.  I have two young nephews who had something similar and came through with flying colors.

Good thoughts go out to all.

Time for some lunch, and then probably another nap.

Thanks to all who keep us updated especially on health issues.  This is such a sweet and caring group.  Now to hear about Lloyd and we will have a sense of relief.

We just returned from a walk here in Tucson and it seems so odd to not be shoveling snow.  Don is able to take daily walks here and that is great for him. Our oldest son will be here in a few days - he flew to Houston for a week and then he will be here for another week.  He has been going through the house and fixing electricity plus a lot of things we are not able to climb the ladder any more.  We always love it when any of the family visits. My neighbor in back threw 3 lemons from his tree to me and thankfully, I caught them.  :)

Time for Jeopardy. We like to answer the questions but cannot know every category. Why?

Stay safe and careful walking.  I signed on for a Balance class - maybe it will keep me from tipping and tripping?

So, Coronary Bypass surgery.  I have a friend whose husband had 4 Bypass surgeries.
He did very well for a long time, but there are other diseases that catch up to you as you get well up in age, (he was in his late 80's) that don't pay attention to the "good heart".  Pray you do well, and will be thinking of you and Nancy.

Lloyd, when they replaced my aortic valve nearly 7 years ago, they also took the vein from my leg (ankle to knee) and made 3 bypasses in or around the heart. This past year they put in 2 stents when they did a heart cath. The doctor said the by-passes still looked good but he wants to replace the valve again. I'm not ready for that, even though it can be done through the artery (or vein) instead of opening the heart again. You must be a good patient since they keep taking you back! <smile> Tell Nancy I will be thinking of her as she waits for updates as the surgery progresses. I was in the waiting room many hours when my husband had his first surgery & later procedures. Prayers for all of you, including the doctor, and hope you are the first patient in the morning so they are all fresh & not tired.

Since I am up & had breakfast I may as well put the pot of beans on. Looked them over last night so will boil that first water & pour off and then put the ham shanks in & be ready to eat for lunch, with the coleslaw. Shirley

Good morning everyone..

No new snow as of yet but they say we are to get some. Not enough to worry about though. We are off to meet friends this morning then onto a wee village for Kyle to get his hair cut. Will see how time goes and we may head to the city.

Shirley, it is amazing how procedures have come along. BIL had the same procedure as you plus my friend also had that. Now she has a pacemaker in.Your lunch sounds delicious!! We are on the tail end of our baked beans..but no slaw:(

Carol, nice to see your son will do your ladder work for you. I do the ladder work here but when it comes to going up on the roof the neighbour does that for us.

Joy, don't you just love the fact if you want "another" nap you can do it? When working naps were not on the list but now.YES!! We all had one yesterday.. this pup of ours snores!

Enjoy your day everyone..

I'm back to not sleeping well at night.  I even resorted to the Melatonin the last couple of nights and I'm still not sleeping.  I know I was awake 4 times last night and it takes longer and longer to get back to sleep.  I'm sure glad I don't have to be on my feet and alert at WM these days!

It's foggy out and in the 40s this morning.  Supposed to start raining around noon and continue through the afternoon.  DREARY!  I don't like DREARY!  The only good thing about dreary is, you don't have to shovel it!  But it can be just as heavy as snow.

Jackie, it's nice to see you posting in the Soda Shoppe.  I miss you when you're gone!

Coffee's done! I'll be back later!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good Saturday morning.

It is a dreary, drizzley morning here.  And a little chilly,  I think I feel a little better this morning.  Just have not been feeling all that great ever since Christmas.

I had some minor surgery on my face for some basal cell cancer spots and then the doctor gave me some cream to use on my nose for some sun damage. That really was rough to go through. Used it for about 4 weeks and I looked like I had been in the war. Really was very upsetting for a couple weeks.  Don't know why it bothered me so much. I stayed in for most of that time.  It is finally beginning to clear up and I am looking more normal now.  I had a family party today, but just don't feel up to getting dressed and going out. I will miss the fun, but, I think I am better staying home.

And yes, Amy, I am sure a nap is not too far off.

I do hope all will go well for Lloyd and he won't be in the hospital too long.  And hope all the other friends are doing well this morning.

I did want to let you all know that I sent a message to Jack in W.Va. just to see how he was doing and to say  "Hi".  He wrote back that he is 89 now and in good health.  He and his "buddy"  Mimi are still taking almost daily walks to Oglebay Park. He doesn't drive very  far anymore, but he feels good and able to stay in his home.  He doesn't plan on returning to the Senior and Friends group, tho.  I did tell him that we all miss his wonderful pictures from his walks with Mimi.

I hope everyone will have a good Saturday.

Joy

Good morning everyone, another gloomy day with rain, foggy this morning, too.

SHIRLEY  when I joined the Nest I started my days there and now I start it here in the SS with my coffee. Only times I don't is when I have an appointment or going out early.

JANE  thank God Frankie's liver problem can be treated. So young to have a health scare like that. Thanks for telling us about Lloyd. Prayers continue for both of them.

AMY  I had one yesterday that I had when my favorite CNA was on vacation and she is like Yvette, knows she is here for the client, not to take it easy. She looked up her schedule before she  left and said she will be here the last 3 days next week. That is 2 good ones I had last week. The kind you do not have to tell every little thing to do.

JOY  hello, good seeing your post.

LLOYD  wonderful seeing you here yesterday.

CAROL  we are a family here in the SS. Ah you enjoy Jepardy, too. I am lucky when I know the answer to one question. Must say Alex looks good for fighting pancreatic cancer. Of course they must use a lot of make up on him. I had 2 sisters die from it, both were diabetics. We had classes here about keeping balace. I do have a fear of falling.

LLOYD  we know you have a heart, a kind and trusting one.

AMY  most every afternoon I rest on the couch watching TV and some days I do fall asleep. As long as I wake before my daughter gets on Skype I am fine with it.

JANE  today is the second day of gloom here, One day is bad enough.

Yesterday my oldest son called and asked if I wanted to go shopping, of course I said YES. He picked me up at 1 and we got home at almost 5. Went to 2 different stores and boy did I buy a lot to stock up. I still have most on the counters in the kitchen, too worn out to put every thing away. After I have my breakfast I will get dressed and start sorting stuff and find a place to put every thing. Think I bought the last half gallon of eggnog for the season, I do love that and go through it is less than a week.

Have a good day.

Shirley thanks I will try to be calm and behave. it is hard for me to set still. and no rest here, you just get your brain to settle down your eyes to close here and here they come with a needle and a hand full of pills. my stomach is black and blue from one of those shots they pinch up a hand full of stomach squse it and jab it in.

Better news about Frankie and Lloyd but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.  I hope everything gets completely taken care of soon because I'm getting a bit of a cramp in those fingers.   :)  ;)

I'm not fond of DREARY, either, and that is what it is outside my window, too, but it is warm and comfortable inside so as long as I stay on this side I'll be fine.

The water heater was replaced and I think I'll run a small load of laundry.  Other than that, I have no plans except to be my usual lazy self.

Have a good weekend, All.

Glad to see everyone up & running this morning. Lloyd, you are lucky to have good wi-fi in the hospital, never could get mine to work, only now & then. I do remember those shots, not a fun week ahead for you but you will do okay.

Jane, would you believe that I go to sleep in about 4 minutes (so Fitbit tells me), was a real problem until I started back to my kid night prayers.... concentrating on each word to keep any other thoughts out, 4 short prayers ending with "now I lay me down to sleep"... and I am gone. With cats waking me up some nights several times, I do get to say them each time, but it works for me. Gotta keep the mind busy with each word.

Gloria, so glad you are getting decent help again, nothing worse that having someone around that doesn't do their job.

Amy, one of these cats snores something awful (Tom). Even old Callie will sometimes snore. They all have staked out their favorite floor vent to sleep on so am pretty sure that isn't too good for them, but what's a mama to do??? When the sun is shining & warmest part of the day I send them outside to get their dose of sunshine vitamins.

Well, Fitbit is on charge & this iPad needs to charge.... actually, MY body could do with a charge. Have a bunch of things to get done, a couple months to make up for. Still have the pain in the back of my head but at least I don't have to hold my head in my hands to lay it down. I am anxious to hear what the eye doctor says, she can tell if that pain is BP from what I understand, as well as if poor fitting glasses. I don't use glasses to read or for the computer so hate to give that up with cataract surgery... sure are a lot of decisions & choices to make in this aging process.

All you instant pot people take note.... I am still holding out & using my pressure cooker to cook this pot of beans, but weakening ....  don't know where I'd find room to store it but you girls tempt with getting these things cooked so fast. Not today.

OH, forgot to tell you, when coming up from the river last night I took a peek under the forsythia bush in the berm and discovered those crazy surprise lilies have their noses out of the ground about half an inch. They delight is showing up before anything else & doesn't bother them to get snowed on, but last year they didn't bloom because the forsythia kept them in the shade. I didn't get it trimmed back in time so smothered that second time of popping up with just the blooms. Some people call them Naked Ladies.... these came from my mother & the Garden Club called them "Surprise Lilies"...  ;)

Good afternoon Everyone !

And here we are a few steps into
2020.   I am so glad to see it is
here.    2019 really sucked, IMHO.
Looking for 2020 to be a better year.

I need to contemplate my weight gain,
and decide how I am going to remove it.

Always the same issues with food.
I can loose the weight, I just need
to stick to the plan.   A couple more
weeks and I will tackle this.
(Oh whoa !)

Hoping everyone is doing
well or at least better.

Best wishes LLoyd!

We made it home before  the snow!  We did run into a bit of snow but nothing to worry about. On the way in we had two stops!! One for a fox that wanted on the other side of the road and one for turkeys. The turkeys made us laugh out  loud, while most of them made it the other side of the road..one a little female came bootin across the lawn with wings just a flappin...we waited on her to meet up with the rest of them . Scored a lovely painting of a wolf at Habitat for Humanity and picked up some minky at the fabric store half price! All in all a great  day.

Joy, the Dr gave my friend salve like that and what it did was attack all the cancer spots that you couldn't see but that salve sure put the run on it.  I even took my friend back to the Dr as he wasn't told of how this salve would react!

Gloria, what a fun time you had shopping with your son!! When is your regular lady coming back?

Shirley, I must admit I am so impressed with the IP I bought a second one. Many times I have wanted to use it and yogurt was being done but now I have no excuse. Hot weather time is when I will use it more as I use the cookstove in the winter.

Sandy, putting it on is easier than taking it off. Good luck with your plan.

Good one, Lloyd, I only got the one to show, my wi-fi stinks! Glad your gr-daughter brought Nancy for a visit, the days are long before surgery but will keep you busy making you walk & move about after. Hope they pick the best doctor for what you need repaired. Is KC closer than Columbia for the family to travel?

Amy, I just have to tell someone that yesterday (Jan.3) my pet chicken died "back during WWII". Not everyone thinks of our fur or feathered friends are real people, but I think you do. My youngest brother stayed home from school with me that day and we made a plaster of paris plaque with her name on in alphabet macaroni. the kind Mother put in soup. Then my brother painted the letters (Maggie) with our sister's nail polish... My aunt gave me the baby chicken the first time we visited their farm after the war started. She rode in my doll buggy & I dressed her with a bolero jacket, she would walk around in it & follow me everywhere. She could even jump rope. After she died Mother talked to a vet that said she probably ate too much of my fudge, I always shared everything with her. My teachers & principal even allowed me to bring her to school one day, and so impressed with her the teacher bought every kid in the class a baby chicken for Easter. The principal had moved up to the high school by the time I was a Junior & Senior so I had a good buddy sitting in THE SEAT. I'm not sure what year she died, but January 3rd never goes by that I don't think of her.  :smitten:   Always was a strange kid.... ::)

Dang it.....I just came in to see that I must not have posted my post and now it is gone😩😢

I really did not have that much to say, but I did want LLOYD to know that I am thinking about him AND for JANE to know that I was sure happy to read that Frankies issue is not good, but knowing it is treatable is certainly a good thing.  Continued thoughts and prayers for Frankie and Lloyd🙏🙏

SHIRLEY, I am sorry that you continue to have the pain in your head, but as always you just keep going like the energizer bunny❣️ I had to smile as I read about your Pet Chicken Maggie😘

We are picking up dinner to take to Dave and Michele's and it is time to head out and get that done.

Have a good evening EVERYFRIEND, and I am sorry I have not responded to many that said things I wanted to comment on.

Shirley, I remember dates, too, but of people, not animals.  I used to remember the date our dog died, but now I can only tell you it was around Memorial Day.  She was the only pet we had until Kendrick joined the family.  My hope is that he will outlive me and I'll let others find a new home for him.  Kendrick is 6 1/2.  Our dog was about 10.

I enjoyed the story about your chicken.

I'm concerned about the pain in your head and I hope doctors find a cure for it.  It has gone on too long.

Good morning everyone..

A light dusting of snow last night, nothing to worry abut other than watching where we are stepping as it is icy underneath.

A few things need to be done later today but that is all.

Jane I think it came from The Christmas Carol ... And so as Tiny Tim said A Merry Christmas to us all God bless us every one.

Shirley, I had Miss Biddy a Rhode Island chick/hen. She didn't get dressed up but she would follow you everywhere. Then the list goes on..Blue the lamb, Coal the calf ,Hector the pig. He would sit for a piece of bread and lay down to get his tummy rubbed .Seems my life is surrounded with animals.....some I really loved and others well..some were ornery like Patches the cow, never did sit to milk her..... I would lean over with my head on her flank and hope to feel the reflex when she was going to kick..

Jenny, that is nice of you to "do dinner " gives everyone a break at a busy time of year.

Lloyd, thank you for the video, always enjoyed that song. Hope today brings you answers and a date for your operation.

Roley, hello!! Nice to see you Happy New Years to you and Jean. Wishing you all the best in 2020.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night but still not through the night.  Lots of restless hours...   Oh well!  It's better than nothing and I tried not to sleep during the day.  It worked for most of the day but the TV put me to sleep around 10.

My cousin who grew up with me and my sister died in Wisconsin probably as the ball was dropping in Times Square.  I talked with her daughter last night and we had some tears together and agreed that even though we know she's better where she is now, we're going to miss her!

I have to go get ready for church while I wait for the boinger for Mickie's pill.  It's going to be a busy day.  Frankie called last night to "see if I'm busy today".  That means that since she doesn't have a car yet, she needs a ride somewhere.  This time it's to get groceries.  I don't need groceries but I'll take her and while she shops for groceries, I'll look for a new office chair.

AMY, you're right about the line being from Dickens, "A Christmas Carol".  I've loved it since the first time I heard it and that was a looooooong time ago.  What a nice way to end a story!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone, stayed up late last night reading a book and could not put it down. Woke just after 10 this morning. Looks like the sun will break through today. We sure can use it after all the rain and gloom. I still have not put every thing away from my shopping trip. I do some and need to sit and rest. It's times like this I feel useless.

PHYLLIS  not lazy just tired. If you arelazy that means I am too.

SHIRLEY  I so hope my regular CNA gets back soon. I dislike lazy people who want to sit and not do what they are paid to do.

SANDY  I would love  to add at least 15 pounds so my doctor would stop worrying about my weight. Heck am now am the weight I was when I got married 69 years ago.

AMY  when she called me last week she said she had 2 more PT sessions and then a visit to the doctor. He has to release her to go back to work. Hope he gives the OK. At times I think I would like one of thse smart pots but I do not have room for what I have now.

LLOYD  I will watch the links when I finish here. Glad Nancy got to see you.

JANE  God bless us everyone, isn't  that  from Dickens Christmas story and Tiny Tim say that at the end when Scrooge finally got a heart?

Past noon and I think I btter go make my breakfast, more like lunch time.

Have a good day.

Shame on me!

weight as you were when you got married...
I am many many pounds away from that!

I do know that I  can't forget to watch it
carefully....  so I am not surprised to have
put on the pounds over the holidays...

Oh well ...  can't complain... but still I do!!

Sandy, I think I mentioned somewhere that Tom lost one pound over the holidays so he is watching his ps and qs.  I try to keep my weight within a five pound range and managed to stay there.  The trouble during holidays, especially, is that you can have the best of intentions, but friends invite you for lunch or a party and all plans go out the window!  I'm too short for my weight, but if I lost to agree with my height, you would not be able to find me.  So I'll try to stay around where I am weight-wise.

Jane, sorry to read about your cousin, we are "at that age" and sadly watch as so many of our loved ones leave us. Still hurts so hugs for your loss. By the way, my husband had a near new desk chair, leather & really nice looking but way to big for this short body. I asked both of my sons if they wanted but they "hem-hawed" until I finally told them I was going to give it to anyone that would haul it off. Both said they'd take it & finally they decided which would actually use it. I had a short bar stool to use until I found one that fit, but as the days went by I noticed that new "rotator" sitting in the corner & pulled it over & by golly, it works just great! It is comfy, can swivel around to use one computer or the other & know if I ever need it again, it's right here ready to roll. I am so pleased with my discovery I don't plan to look any more for the perfect chair!

Jenny, my thoughts and prayers are still with Michele & all the family. I know you do all you can to help.

Gloria, like you, I will stay up all night to finish a book, sure can't put me to sleep by reading. I have a friend that will read a chapter or read until sleepy but give me a good book and I'd be thinking about it until finished! I haven't read a good book for a long time.

Oh, darn, forgot I'm on the iPad & don't know how to copy & paste like the computer... can't drag & get the print to highlight. I normally type my post, highlight, copy & delete & then put in the text after choosing size, color & font... then post. I will see if I can figure a new way.

I'm checking out, too.  But not quite ready to go to bed.  I have a couple of things to do yet and then I'm off.

I just had Mickie out for her (I hope) last time and it's snowing pretty good.  So far, it's only laying in the grassy areas but if it keeps up at the rate it's going, we could have some accumulation by morning.  My first thought was that I better get the car under cover and then I realized that it is under cover.  I'm smarter than I thought I was!

Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Looks like the music will begin for the dance, about 2 inches of fluffy snow this morning and it is still coming down. Will do  chores around the house after the waltz.

Bubble, can use our prayers, she is sick in bed with a cold. Hope you feel better soon Bubble.

Jane, with all that you are doing now, have you figured out just how you found time to work  in the past?

Gloria, snow is falling here and it just may be on its way to you. Must admit we have been so lucky so far. Just wish we could send all the snow/rain to Australia to help put out the fires.

Lloyd, that is your body telling you need rest so please listen to it and don't push yourself. Hope you have a great day today.

Joy and Phyllis, hope you both are keeping well. I know the holidays sure tire one out and it is nice when everything gets back in order.

Better get my dancing duds on...

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're in "wait" mode for the boinger and it should be going off soon or so Mickie thinks.

We had some accumulation of snow overnight but only in the grassy areas.  It left the roads wet but clear.  I wonder how that happens?

I slept better last night than I have in a long time.  I was up once and took a Melatonin before going back to bed and it took the alarm at 7 to wake me up.  Now what should I get into today?

AMY, I guess I'd have to be saying "NO" to Frankie more often and not watching a movie when I felt like it if I was still working.  And I think my feet would hurt a lot more because I'd be wearing shoes instead of house slippers.  So far, all that is in my favor!  And when I took Frankie grocery shopping, I wandered around the store and picked up six things I don't need just because I had a gift card to use for them.  It was one of my "countdown to Christmas" envelopes from the kids.  Nice to have things one doesn't really need (like Magnum ice cream bars) and not have to pay for them.

It's almost time for the boinger so...

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone. Don't expect to see sun again today, snow in the forecast around noon. For me hat  is better than rain.

SANDY  the problem with me is I have no appetite. After breakfast I could go the rest of the day without eating and it wouldn't bother me. I have been bouncing between 80 and 85 pounds and am skinny. Even with the holiday meals I only took what I knew I cold eat and that was not much.

SHIRLEY  I type on notepad and than copy and past in the post box, wait to see if it does post before I delete on the notepad. I save the notepad with the code on it so do not have to worry about forgetting it.

LLOYD  being in the hospital with nothing to do to keep busy is enough to make anyone sleep.

JANE  I thought I was the only  one foretting things lately.

AMY  Australia is really on fire this time. I keep wondering how Junee and her family are doing. They live in Sidney and I have not heard that name mentioned. We will get some snow later and from what I saw it will only be for a few hours.

JANE  like me last Friday at Walmart, it cane p to $136.plus change and the 36 and change is all I paid for. I have one more giftcard for a market for $50 but that will wait awhile, I am still looking for places to put every thing I bought Friday.

Have a good day.

Merry Monday, Everyfriend,

Has anyone used - or know of anyone who has used - "Shipt" or any of the other companies that deliver groceries after shopping on-line?

I'm tempted to try Shipt but 'they' won't let me see details on the web site unless I register.   I'm sure I could cancel if I don't like what I see but would prefer to have someone's comment about using this type of service before I try.

So sorry to learn about Bubble and hope she feels better soon.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Have any of you Instant Pot Aces ever had a "burn" light come on when you were making something?  It really cuts into my confidence and if the rice pudding wasn't so good, I'd probably be tempted to chuck the whole experience.  I let you know what I think after I finish scrubbing the "burn" off the bottom of the pot!  Right now, it's soaking!  And it better all be loose when I get around to scrubbing it.

Good morning everyone. 29 now. Now I cannot get the degree to work. What next with this male machine We got the snow at noon yesterday for all of 5 minutes. Wonder what  the younger generations would do if they woke in the morning to at least an 8 inch snow over night with no forecast of it. They might act like is meant a day off work or school?  Our next snow will be Friday at least 3 inches, heck that is nothing.

BUBBLE  I pray you are feeling a bit better toay.

CALLIE  I have ordered groceries from PeaPod here and was delivered right into my kitchen. Been happy with every thing every time. It is run by a large market chain Stop & Shop. It sure helps when I cannot get out to the market.

JANE  did you add some white‪ vingar to the water you are soaking the pot in? I have done that in a pan I  burned. If it was bad I put baking soda in befor adding the vinegar. Makes the scrubbing easier.

LLOYD  better at home than waiting in a hospital. Hope it is not a long wait for a long wait for a bed. Just none of your chores and take it slow and easy.

AMY  we all have the same advice to LLOYD. We want him around for years to come. Have a safe trip on the roads this morning.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better last night, too thanks to a Melatonin after my first wake up around 2 a.m.  It actually took the alarm to wake me this morning.  And I can feel it in my bones.

My friend is picking me up around 11 and we're going to go see the new Little Women movie today.  And afterward, she's taking me to Bob Evans for a a meal to celebrate my retirement.  Isn't that nice of her!

Gotta go!  The boinger is going off and Mickie's been telling me for 10 minutes that she thinks it's time for breakfast.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Callie, can't help you with Shipt but I have used Instacart and it was a good experience.  The shopper had to make a substitution to my list but called me first for my OK.  Everything else was what I had ordered and brought right to the door in timely fashion.

Lloyd, I'm sure you would like to get the heart procedure over and done with but it is good that you can be at home while you are waiting for an  opening at the hospital you prefer.  Take care of yourself.

Jane, I've never personally had the burn notice come on but have read on-line of many who have.  Don't worry about it too much or let it put you off.  Just be sure to scrape all of the bits off of the bottom of the pan before you pressurize.  I usually just use a wooden spoon and scrape everything I can when I add the liquid before pressurizing.  My favorite thing to make in the IP is spaghetti and meatballs and since I brown the meatballs first on Saute I make sure to add just a bit of water and scrape clean before adding the pasta and sauce and the rest of the water and then pressurizing.

Try this link for some ideas:  https://instantpot.com/instant-pots-overheat-burn-protection/

Quiet day here with some sun and not too cold.

We came home from the movies in snow!  it's coming down pretty good buy not laying on the main roads.  And since I have nowhere that I have to go tomorrow, I'm not worried about the snow.  And my friend who was driving did a lot of years as a home care nurse in Michigan and she said this was nothing compared to what she drove in duing those years.

PHYLLIS, thanks for the link to find out about the BURN on my IP. It's very much like the one another friend sent me by email.  And it's all cleaned up now and ready to go again.  And the rice pudding was good enough to quell my doubts.  But it's nice to have the little info bits for the next time.

The movie was the recent remake of LITTLE WOMEN and it was very good!  Quite true to the original story but not done the same.  I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Now I'm going to go in and see if there are any zzzzs left on the sofa or if Mickie used them all up while I was gone.  I'm beginning to love retirement!

Hey, Bubble, how are you today?  Do I need to send BenGay or Vicks rub?  My goodness, back in the early '50s I had Mother send me a tube of Ben Gay for my chest cold, when we lived in England, since nothing else ever worked. I just did a Google & it doesn't mention the "aroma that opens the nasal passages" like it was used for back in the old days! Sorry, hope you are doing okay without it. Hugs & hope you have plenty of Kleenex handy!

Good evening.  It was a busy day here of taking down all of our Christmas decorations.  We got rid of a lot of things and managed to get all of the needed stuff in one fairly large box.  I bought some green/red containers to store these things in but they just did not fit well, so back to the box.  We cleaned up, meaning vacuuming all of the sparkling stuff up, dusting etc.  Then I ran out of steam, so I will finish tomorrow by getting the regular things brought back out to the rooms.  It sure looks bare in here tonight!

AMY, glad your appointments went well and it appears you got a lot accomplished today.  Good job!

LLOYD, I am glad you are home, but I know it must be stressful to be waiting for the word to go to the hospital where your surgery will take place.  I just hope you will take it easy as you wait!

BUBBLE, I hope you are starting to feel much better as well.

JANE, happy you enjoyed the movie today....I have heard very good things about the new movie, LITTLE WOMEN.

PHYLLIS, I have looked at your info on the burning things in the Instant Pot.

Have a good evening, EVERYFRIEND. I am not in the best of spirits tonight.....the upsetting news about the attack on our military bases in Iraq.

We had a light dusting of snow overnight....not a lot to worry about though. May need to do the trails out back but will see when it gets light out.

Lloyd, my husband had the same rest you did I hope you both can catch some zzz's later in the day.

Jenny, one of my jobs is to purge and get rid of things we don't use or need. Not looking forward to the job .

Shirley, here it is Buckley's Mixture. My goodness one spoonful and you will get better just so you don't have to have another! It does clear everything out though.

Gloria, snow may be heading your way today. We all need to keep an eye on Lloyd ,he needs to get better.

My git up and go has gone away, the trip to the city tired me out and there is another one on Fri!

Good morning everyone, had a covering of snow last night, just about enough that I know it snowed.  That I did not hear on the weather last night. 29 darn this computer and acting up. Don't know why the degree signs don't show up at times.

JANE  hope the new Little Women was as good as the original. You still set your alarm clock every night? Now as JOAN would have said, read her book, we are retired no more alarms.

AMY  the light dusting of snow we had is already melting in the beautiful sunshine we have at last. Good setting for the Blue Jays.

My right eye is acting up again. Will be glad when my CNA ges here to put drops in. Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I had another restless night and I wouldn't have needed the alarm clock because my phone had a bad road alert and that was enough to wake the dead!  And, for the record, there was supposed to be two different workmen coming today and the one arrives early.  I didn't want to get caught in my jammies with my hair all "anyhow" when he got here.  That's why I set the alarm.  However, he hasn't showed up yet.  He comes over a small mountain and I know for a fact it can be nice on one side and miserable on the other side.

Mickie opted to run wile in the snow and eat snow globs.  She weewee-d outside but chose to do her job inside today.  I guess she was confused.

My driveway is all cleaned off from the first deposit of snow and there's now a dusting of new snow on it.  They are saying that the slushy stuff on the roads from last night has frozen and the new snow is hiding it.  When we took our walk this morning, there were lumps of frozen slush everywhere.  Not nice walking!

I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere.  I'll just stay home and pay bills and make baked bean in my IP.  How does that sound?

I hope you are all having a good day and LLOYD, I hope you are behaving!  If you could see me, you'd see that I'm shaking my finger at you and telling you to resist the urge to do ANYTHING that takes effort.  It'll wait!

I might vacuum today if I feel like it.  That remains to be seen!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Actually, I made baked beans in my IP today and they were so good I ate 2 bowls of them for lunch!  My confidence has returned!  I have a quart and a pint left over for making with other meals.  Tomorrow, I'm going to make elk meat loaf patties to go with the beans and maybe saute some cauliflower and broccoli.  Sounds like a good meal to me.

The fellows showed up and did the inspection of the wiring and plumbing and then the two that did the work stayed to fix a leak in my bathroom and adjust the sprayer in my kitchen sink.  We got to talking and I think I might have adopted a couple of young fellows to help me out occasionally.  They both gave me their cards and told me to keep them in my phone contacts and that they are around town a lot and available to help out if I need them.  And they both told me not to hesitate to call for anything...even if it's just move something heavy.  Nice guys!

I hope everyfriend's day is going well.  No one's been in here since I was here this morning so now when you do come in, you'll be exposed to two entries from me.  Sorry about that, but that's life!

Good Afternoon, Janie - and all those who are reading and not posting  ;D

I have chicken breasts from the freezer and a package of Stovetop stuffing mix (combined with cream of chicken soup and broth) in the slow cooker.  Don't really care if it gets done for dinner tonight but hope it does.

Eye is almost back to normal but now a south wind is blowing in cedar pollen from Texas!  Wind is supposed to turn to the north by Friday so...."back atcha, Texas!!!!  :buck2:

Son took me to get "big groceries" last night (felt very decadent doing that after dark  ;)) but I drove myself to get hair done this morning.  I'll hold off on trying Shipt or something similar.  Would rather Do It Myself.
All is well.

Janie, isn't it nice when you find "handymen" (oops - handyWORKERS) who are willing to help when needed?  I found one several years ago through a friend and, while he will no longer work for her because she got so bossy, he has always been willing to come when I needed any kind of work done.  The only thing he isn't licensed to do is plumbing.  However, I began using a local heating/plumbing/a.c. company when the grandfather of the current owner was in charge - and they'll even come on Sunday afternoons if it's an emergency.

"The girls" saw Little Women while we were in Wisconsin and I loved it. I thought the rewrite of the script to emphasize women's independence was well done and stayed true to the story.

Nothing on the agenda until the middle of next week.  If eye behaves, maybe I'll get started on some family history writing I've been going to do as a January project for....umm....ahh...."ever so long".  ::)

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning everyone..

Goodness the temp dropped fast and it is now -18° F ..tis winter!! Meeting with friends this morning, then pick up a few things at the grocery store and home.

Jane, sounds like a good pair to have hardworking and trustworthy....can't beat that. Baked beans in the IP take so little time compared to doing them in the oven and you don't have to soak them.

Gloria, the temp dipped down further than what I had thought...as Joanie would say a day for the geemagotchies..

Lloyd ,I hope that means it is not as bad as Drs. thought. Just take things easy, enjoy your life with Nancy and the family.

Callie, your chicken in the c/p sounds tasty too!

Bubble, good to see you back, hope this means you are feeling much better. Don't over do it though.....

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's SUPER cold here, too this morning!  When I got up at 7 it was only 14 degrees and for this area, that's COLD!

I'm happy to saythat I slept the whole way through the night.  I went to be a little after 11  (I think) and I actually slept right through the 6:30 alarm to wake up a little after 7.  It's gonna be a good day!

And before GLORIA asks me again why I'm setting the alarm, the second set of workmen are supposed to be coming back today and they didn't say when.  And once again, I don't want to get caught in my jammies with my hair all "anyhow"!

I got the meat out of the freezer to make the meat loaf today.  It's going to be made with Wyoming Elk from my SIL's last hunting trip out west.  It sure does make good meat loaf!  I like it when he goes hunting.  I reap two benefits.  My daughter from Maryland visits us up here in PA while he's gone and then I get some fresh meat when he gets back!  It's a win/win situation for me!

I hope all who were ill are better and all who are well, stay that way.

I wish you all a lovely day!

It is a bright sunny morning here and not too cold.  Just seasonally chilly.

I got out of the house to have my hair cut yesterday.  First time I had been outside since last November.  Felt good and strange at the same time.  David asked if I wanted to stop and have an early dinner but I was ready to come home.  Doesn't take too long for me to wear down.  I hope that I can build up some more stamina as time goes on.

Lloyd, I'm glad that you don't have to go through heart surgery.  Listen to the doctors and do what they say and.....take it easy.

Talk to you all later.

Good morning everyone. Slept late this morning and finally am here with my coffee. Wonder who or when I get a CNA today. I was to on Tuesday who I would have for the next 3 days and the time. Well o an hour later a cna showed up and it was a different one. She was supposed to be here 2 hours and she said only 11/2 hours. Laundry day and that takes 2 hours. She called and got permission to stay the 2 hours. She was nice and pleasant. I just wish the new one in charge of schedules would get it right.

JANE  looks like you have found e young men willling to do any kind of work. Not many like that around anymore.

CALLIE  I would rather get my groceries myself but when I need things I do get them delivered, the PeaPod I use is with the market I always went to. So far no complaints. They bring the order in and right into the kitchen, things for the fridge they put on the counter near the fridge. Great.

LLOYD  glad they are putting you on insulin, with your llove for food and being a diabetic you most likely need it by now.

AMY  the sun is sning bright and beautiful and just 20 now at 10:15 so I know it was down in the low teens over night. I don't know how you can even think of going out the door with it as cold as you are this morning.

JANE  I don't mind being caught in my jammies and robe as long as my hair is combed. No matter how short it  is it is flat on the side I sleep on. At times I wish I moved in my sleep. OK when do we eat at at your home? I would  love some wild meat, been years since I hac any and I do like the different taste of it.

PHYLLIS  my DIL cuts my hair and I hate askeing her too often so on New Year's day when I was ther she asked if I would like a hair cut and I said YES.

BUBBLE  glad you are feeling better. I seldom get a cold but when I do it takes every thing out of me.

Have a good day and keep warm.

Good evening.  Thought I'd pop in while waiting for the first Final Jeopardy clue.  My, those 3 champions are "quick on the buzzer".

Amy, the chicken/dressing in the slow cooker didn't turn out too well.  I didn't like the consistency of the dressing.  I'll stick to my chicken/dressing casserole that's bakes in the oven for 30 minutes.

Janie, hope you and Gloria enjoyed the elk burgers/loaf.  #2 son makes jerky with deer meat.

Gloria,I think the grocery delivery service is A Good Thing.  Peapod isn't available here but I plan to take advantage of one of the services that is when I need it long term.

Back to Jeopardy.  They're already finished game one of the second round.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Ah, would love an elk burger like we had in CO a couple years ago. Every year we go back to the same place but not on the menu that day. BooHoo... Son & I thought they were delicious.

One year my husband was invited to a deer hunt in OK, he got his shot but not a clean kill so the guide "slit Bambi's throat" and my husband never got over those big brown eyes looking at him in pain..... I did every trick anyone ever thought of to disguise that meat but after a few meals that didn't go down well, I gave it all away.

Gloria, I thought the same thing about Lloyd watching his diet & needing to be tested. Diabetes seems to go with heart problems but so far I am okay.

I am disappointed that I can't get in to see the ophthalmologist for cataract surgery until Feb... first talk with him is Feb 7 so don't know when they do the first eye. I am nervous about whatever med they use to "freeze" the eye since I had a terrible reaction to whatever the cardiologist used during the cath & stents last spring. I know they have to use something, still can't imagine holding still as someone messes with my eye! The doctor I saw did all the tests & everything great except for the cloud. She didn't think eyes had anything to do with the headaches. Back to square one, no cause to fix! Only thing left is an MRI so will see if the Dr orders that & what it shows. What ever the cause, I'd like to know.

Bedtime, forgot I'm on the iPad & have to figure how to change the text!

The elkburger meatloaf was gooooood!  I made baked cauliflower and and warmed up some of the beans I did in the IP yesterday.  Good supper.  What did you think, Gloria?

I'm off to Dreamland, too.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone. A nice 21 this morning, brrrr. When I pulled up the bedroom shade I could see the full moon but was kind of blurry, not a nice bright one. The cars  in the parking lot have a nice coating of frost. Sure glad I am in here nice and warm in my new robe. Still have to cut the bottom about a foot or I will be dusting the floors. Still saying on the local weather that it will be in upper  50's tomorrow and 60 Sunday.

JANE  that's me a day late for your elk meatloaf patty. DARN.

CALLIE  we ust be watching different Jepardy programs, no champions last night on the one I watched. Since I cannot get out to the market like I used to and I need to much for a CNA to go to the market for me I am thankful there is PeaPod I can order from. Like last week when my son took me shopping I spent over $200. but stocked up on a lot. I could ask him to take me often but rather not pester him and when he wants to take me he calls and ask me. I like that better.

SHIRLEY  my Mother was diabetic- was early 50's when diagnosed  and in her mid 60's when she got heart trouble. My Dad had a massive heart attack in his 60's and survived it till he died at 69.When I had the first cataract surgery I was nervous and one of his nurses held my hand and talked to me the whole time. They had asked if I wanted a pill to relax me before I went into the sterile room and I declined.

JOAN  you are a great cook, wish I lived closer to you. If I liked TV dinners with all the sodium and preservatives I would be more than 80#. I do love my veggies.

AMY  is Willy Nelson's song "On the Road Again" your theme song or did he write it for you? How many days a week are you on the road again?

Have a good day and keep warm and dry.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept OK last night...woke up once but drifted right back to sleep and didn't need to answer Nature's Call.

Gee, GLORIA, if you weren't here, I wonder who that was sitting across from me and eating supper with me?  I thought it was you!

It's still cold here (in the low 20s when I got up) but it's supposed to get up to the mid 40s today and then into the high 50s for the weekend.  When my dad was around and we had a weekend like the one coming up he used to say, "I wouldn't care if it just stayed like this and then got warm for the Spring!"  I agree with him 100%.  But I think the bad weather and low temps will be back!

Now, I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Jane, your father and my mother used a lot of the same "old sayings".... love being reminded.

Gloria, since nobody in my family ever had diabetes I didn't know anything about it and when a next door neighbor many years later, mentioned she could have "either the piece of apple pie I offered her OR a baked potato with her supper"..... it stuck in my mind forever. I had never thought about having to think about whether a sweet or starch could be swapped, even though high school health classes taught us that "all breads/starch turns to sugar in your body".... I knew but didn't think! It was that same neighborhood that a young girl, friend of my daughter, had severe diabetes and had to have laser treatment on her eyes for bleeding, and was critical with diet & life style. I remember when Cas had his first by-passes and I had to do a complete change of cooking habits. Found we could survive if I used plenty of herbs & spices instead of fats for flavoring.

We are watching for changing weather, rain turning to freezing rain & snow from this afternoon through Sat. Would love to have a few inches of snow to blanket these plants that are wanting to start growing... not sure if true but I recall my mother thinking snow was very good for her flowers, and she loved her flowers. I have photos of her over the years and noticed one day that in most of them she had her hands in the same position.... she had wiggled her fingers into the dirt to see if the ground was moist enough or needed to be watered! Back in those old days we took most photos outside because it was such a pain to put in "flash" bulbs to take indoors.

Amy, your husband sure gets lots of blood tests & check ups. Hope he is doing better this year (can you believe 2020?) About your good neighbors, my mother always said, "takes being a good neighbor to have one".... so I'm sure they look for a chance to pay back all you do for them. I wish my cats loved to travel like your pups. I dread having to put these furbabies in the RV knowing how they hate the drive. They love camping & know the routine when we stop, but I can't find any way to comfort them when moving. Tried the stuff to make them sleepy but they wanted no part of that. Even bought baby Benadryl to put on their salmon but they wouldn't get near that! They don't just gulp food down without tasting like our dog did.

Callie, I bought a package of chicken "drumsticks" yesterday since my fav part of the chicken & they were on sale. I am already dreading having to fry.... been a very long time since I turned that job over to KFC years ago. I mixed up batter for chicken nuggets for the kids over Christmas & they loved 'em... so easy to bite size the tenders & marinate overnight with all those herbs & spices... but drumsticks are a different problem. Maybe I'll just boil them & debone for the cats. They are tired of the rotisserie chicken & the canned chicken breast I substitute for that meal. Picky eaters. I have a box of Stove Top stuffing was planning to fix with those drumsticks but sounding like a lot of work right now. No IP here.

Better get busy, may grab a few more zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs & then dress. Had an egg, made a little gravy to go over the biscuit that comes with that meal from KFC, I always get carry out. Starting to get light out, Tom went out for a run & back in. Callie ate her breakfast & hiding out on her fav furnace vent at the end of the couch. Tiger slept with me last night & came wandering in for her breakfast so all taken care of & being lazy. Tom is laying in front of the "toe warmer" vent by the kitchen sink. My sister's dog used to do that & developed a cough from being so dried out. So far the cats don't have any signs of it bothering them.

Lloyd, I used to have a couple large Christmas cactus and they'd bloom, but nothing like you say yours do.  I don't have any now.  I do  have an orchid cactus that is growing up and it had one blossom on it this year.  I had one at one time that had 35 blossoms on it but it grew too unwieldy for me so I gave it away.

Shirley, I think your cats being feral and used to what they get outside, need the meat etc you give them.  They'd have a hard time here because Kendrick gets only dry food.

We are told we will get a big storm over the weekend and this morning, the wind is blowing hard from the west.  We are expecting rain, sleet and snow, probably all at the same time.

Shirley, I think snow acts kind of like an insulation for plants in the winter.  My dad liked to garden and we had a few things that he grew up with - pie plant, strawberries, asparagus and various flowers.

I'm not happy with some of Tom's meals (told him so, so I'm not telling tales outside of school) and decided when he was not going to be here at suppertime, I'd have him pick up something at Applebee's.  Things on their menus look interesting, but the calories!  At least 1200 for one meal.  I will say their portions are enough for two or three meals so the calories would be spread out.  The prices weren't too bad for a supper, but I did not choose what I might like to order.  Maybe I'll have Tom pick up an order for goulash from Cheers; that is enough for me for four meals.  I've had it before and it is good.

Tom just came home and said it is a cold 45 degrees and drizzling.  He thinks we will be on the lower part of whatever storm comes this way.

Good Morning,

Weather gurus say Oklahoma will have "all 4 seasons of weather in the next 24 hours"...including possibly damaging tornadoes.  OKC seems to be on the edge of all.  Just hoping we don't get everything at once!!!

Gloria, Jeopardy is having a "series" of shows with contestants being the 3 highest money winners in the show's history (I think....didn't really pay attention to the promos). It's on ABC in the early evening of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I don't usually watch the regular show but needed something to watch and then, of course, got "hooked".

Shirley, I used a regular old ceramic crock pot for the chicken/dressing. Don't think slow cooking works for dressing - at least, not for Stovetop.

I can get tenderized chicken cutlets at Crest and sometimes cut one or two into "fingers", dip in egg (whites only okay but I use the whole egg),  then cracker crumbs and bake.  Doesn't taste like KFC - but just about as good when dipped in honey mustard salad dressing.  Makes several meals for me.

Once used potato chip crumbs for breading and thought those were really good.  However, I try not to keep potato chips on hand because I'll eat too many of them too fast.
#2 son said he saw a recipe using Cheetos for crumbs but we decided that might be too cheesy and not as crisp.

Project du Jour is to start sorting things for tax purposes.  :knuppel2: , Callie.

:cheer:  :cheer:  :cheer: We had a great day!! Dr was pleased with everything and said she isn't going to change a thing! We left there and Kyle did some shopping, I went and picked up ground chicken to cook up for the dogs and we high tailed it home. We did run into a bit of rain but not freezing rain.I think come morning it may be a different story. Stopped at the dairy and picked up extra milk to make yogurt tomorrow...and garlic cheese curds that make your teeth squeak!!

Gloria, we don't have to go back to the city until the 22nd....but do have to go in town for a chiro appointment for Kyle.  I would dearly love to stay home but...

Shirley, all is well so far  with the blood work, the Dr was going to try and get him off of one pill but he is doing so good and as she said....we won't rock the boat!!I am happy about that as we have weather stormy weather in that boat in the past. Our dogs love to go with us.we can be on the road come home ,let them out for a break and they are more than willing to climb  back in and go again!!

Mary Ann...what is pie plant please.I am thinking pumpkin??

Callie, hope you don't get any nasty weather. I also like stuffed pork chops ....but since we don't eat a lot of meat I don't make it unless we get company to help eat it.

Lloyd, are you behaving???

Phyliss ,good to see you. Get all the rest you can...

Better see what I can scare up for supper.

CALLIE, everything in the Dallas area and north closed up early.  Cindy was on her way home and it was 1 p.m. here.  That means it was noon where she was.  They were threatening high winds, rain, with hail the size of golf balls and possible tornados.  I told her to get waaaaay inside and stay there.  I hope it misses all my friends and I hope it's not as bad as the predictions.

Gotta go take Mickie for a walk before it starts getting dark.  Then supper and tv probably through my eyelids.  The bills are all paid and the cleanup is all done.  Now to go out and freeze my b**s off!  It's cold out there!

Amy, pie plant is rhubarb.  we had one plant at the corner of the garage and I think I didn't really appreciate it until after my dad was gone.  The same way with asparagus.  It was there so I felt I had to eat it.  I did not make pies, but just cut up the stalks and added sugar.  I know a lot of people don't like it, but I learned!

Our temp at present is 51 degrees but we can see that the weather is heading this way.  There has been a fine mist out most of the day.  Across Lake Michigan is a combination of rain and mix.  It is headed a bit north of us, but weather can change at the drop of a hat.

Tom is headed for Holland; he was going to baby sit but James' meeting was called off - probably because of the weather, but this will give Tom a chance to visit with James and Alicia and the twins.  Tom is a good driver and does not take chances.  I remember him telling about driving to Detroit on ice and he made it OK while many others were in the ditches.

Janie,  your Tulsa folks may be able to build a snowman in the morning!  Supposed to be 2-4 inches in that area overnight.

There were tornado watches between I-35 and the Arkansas border almost all day and one very short-lived warning.  As far as I know, that didn't develop.

Raining gently here and looks as if it might have been doing so most of the afternoon.
I've been "holed up" in my office, sorting, stacking and shredding the "monthly file". Since all I can see out that window is the fence between my entry and the neighbor's, I didn't realize what was going on.
Early weather sounds as if everything may be frozen in the morning - and cleared away by afternoon.

Onward and Upward...

(Amy, I've never stuffed a pork chop - or anything else...even a turkey)

Good night to all and God Bless. Has been a long day with rain & very dark skies, then the temps started going down. Wind blowing, hear it howling down the stove vent. So far I have not seen ice on the trees or lines but the gate to the pool fence is frozen & won't open. We are supposed to stay below freezing tomorrow with snow in the morning. We needed the rain, no rain gauge out because they would freeze but sounded like enough to help.

I browned those drumsticks tonight & then put them in the cast iron Dutch oven that has a rack to drain grease off for more than half an hour in the oven but still didn't seem done enough to me so next step is dump a bottle of BBQ sauce over them & more oven time. If I EVER think about frying chicken again I hope someone just knocks me in the head to put me out of my misery!!!  I gave up frying chicken long ago & think KFC does a great job, but now & then I loose my head.  :crazy2:

Good news from you, Amy... sounds like you enjoyed the day. Hugs to all and to all a good night. That comes from what??? Hint... think Christmas.

Mary Ann, my father also had rhubarb plant & I know Mother cooked it, but I don't remember ever tasting it. My daughter had a company lunch where she worked & the cook would fix special rhubarb pies because she loved them. Surprised me, but I still haven't tasted!

Good morning everyone, was asleep very ear ly last night so here I am early this morning. 44 now and supposed to  into the 50's and tomorrow  should hit  60.

JANE  I was with you in spirit at supper the other night. Just thinking of the different flavor of the elk. I always liked different foods. Now I cannot cook anymore so do not eat like I should. No wonder I am so skinny. My Mother always said a green winter means a fat cemetery. No snow and not cold enough to kill the germs in the air.

SHIRLEY  the starches in food turn to sugar in our bodies more so than sugar. White flour, bread and white anything. When you hear about eating color they are talking about colorful veggies. You  are right about spices instead of fats for flavor in food. Have you ever tried the Bisquick for oven frying chicken? It tastes like fried but isn't and tasty. I got the recipe on the box years ago.

LLOYD  still too dark to see anything outside but we had drizzle all day yesterday.

MARY ANN  the cactus orchid you were talking about in that the Eppie? My daughter left all of hers behind in San Diego when they moved. Too hot and sunny where they  are now and they would have dies with no shade.

CALLIE is that the one with the bar tender Austin in it or that man from Los Vegas who wom millions? He was funny. I watch Jepardy all week on CBS at 7:30. I have watched it for years. From what  I saw on the weather report last night it doesn't look like nice weather out your way. Stay safe.

AMY  I am so happy I can stay home now. I do like to get out at times but staying home and being lazy after all the work years and traveling feels darn good.

MARY ANN  I always loved rhubarb and especiall in a pie but not with strawberries.

Have a good day and stay safe.

the weather guesser say's 22º and light snow. but not so. earlier was light rain, the deck is wet but not doing any thing now except cold wend out of the north. that kills any possible thought of going to shop today.do not have the flew fixed where i can build fire in wood stove, sure do not need to burn shop down. and the space heater will not warm it up enough for this old man any more. can't take the cold like i used to. so couch jockey again today. I will check in Later. Janes if you still have some of that elk left in the spring we may stop by in the spring if we come that way again. Nancy in not a good traveling mate any more. so not sure we will. did you shoot the elk your self? see you all later.

Good morning everyone..

Singing in the rain ,just singing in the rain....and the temp is 36°F here!! Our snow is leaving and huge water puddles in its place. Looks like the ice is all off the driveway,so that is a good thing. No hanging out laundry today and I am going to make yogurt, that is all on the agenda today.

MaryAnn, never hear it called that before, interesting. I like it just stewed with crushed pineapple in it. In a pie , muffins or jam is also good. We have a huge patch in the back yard plus I started two more plants in the garden.

Shirley, T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house.

Gloria, we will be able to skate all over if this rain freezes. We could also lose power too from the ice on the lines. Just think one day closer to Spring.
 :)

Callie, I like the stuffing/dressing can make a sandwich just out of it.....yes I know bread in bread but it only happens once a year......thank goodness.

Lloyd, now is the time not to over do it with your sweet treats..not saying stop them altogether but do cut back. Doing this is not easy but much healthier for you. Think you are a meat and potato man and now the potatoes are your enemy, instead of a mountain on your plate a little hill instead.

Jane, hope you didn't freeze your bu*s off!!! be careful today if it freezes or you will have more  moves than a moving company.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The temperature is already 41 and heading for a high of 59º Today!  I can hardly believe it!  It's like a day in Spring and we're going to have two in a row.  Tomorrow will reach the high 50s also and then the next two days will only be in the high 40s.  By next Thursday, winter will be back!

The only way I've ever liked rhubarb in my life was when I was little and it grew in the yard.  My sister and I would sneak out of the house with sugar in a cup, pull a stalk of rhubarb and sit down by the creek, dipping it in sugar and eating it.  Come to think of it, I think I liked sneaking the sugar out of the kitchen better than I liked the rhubarb.

SHIRLEY, I sent you an email but I'm not sure I have the right address for you.  If you get it, let me know.

LLOYD, I don't shoot things!  My SIL shot the elk out west somewhere.  I think he said Colorado but I'm not sure of that.  I just reap the benefits.  I'll make sure there's a pack left in the Spring just in case you travel East.  They gave me a LOT of it.

AMY, I've never heard you say you were taking a day off.  I don't think you know how to do "nothing".  I could show you if you were closer to me.  I'm very good at "nothing" for at least 15 minutes at a time.

I think it might be almost time for the boinger and Mickie will be ready for breakfast so I'll just....

Wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

I slept until 8 o'clock!  I thought the clock was lying when I woke up and looked at it.  No sun and dreary here but not raining and warm.  Temp. is 65 and supposed to go near 70.  I'm sorry about all of you in the middle of the country with the stormy weather.  Please take care.

I could never like rhubarb.  It wasn't so much the taste...just didn't like the texture (feel) of it.  My sister-in-law made a beautiful pie for me one time and was disappointed that I just didn't care for it.  I tried but......

Gloria, I always used to fry chicken dredged in Bisquick but I'm very happy with the fried chicken I get from the grocery store now.  And it's a whole lot easier.

Not much of interest going on here so I'll just wish everyone a good day.

Well, I do like rhubarb cooked with sugar, plain in a pie or with strawberry jello in a pie.  I'm not a big fan, but I do like it.  I have enough foods that I don't like, but I am not a fussy eater.  If I am eating at someone's home, unless I am allergic to a food, I eat it, at least take a little bit to say I've had some.  I know what you mean about the texture, Phyllis, maybe that's why I prefer the pie with strawberry.  Amy, I've never had it with pineapple; when/if I buy some rhubarb, I'll have to try that.

Gloria, yes, my orchid cactus is the Eppie.  The one with 35 blossoms got too big for me so I gave it away and the one I now have is still growing.  It did have one blossom a month or so ago which was unusual because it usually flowered in June.  I'll hope for more blossoms this summer.

When I looked outside, it looked as if we were having some freezing rain and our temp has stayed around 32 degrees (rain and 32 degrees in the same sentence is not good).  Dot just called to let me know we would not be going to church in the morning.  I'll bet a lot of other people will not be going either.

I've showered and shampooed this morning and my hair is almost dry.  It's time I get dressed and do something constructive - there are lots of constructive jobs I can do!

I just looked at Lake Michigan and there are some whitecaps.  Usually by this time of the year, there is ice out to the lighthouse building.  At night it's nice to see the catwalk lights.

Good Morning,

I've heard that some of the streets were/are icy this morning but all I know about is what I can see from my windows.  That's a "dusting" of snow (which might just be frozen leftover rain) and a dry driveway.  Don't intend going any farther.

Gloria,  the contestants on the Jeopardy "Tournament of Champions" include the guy from Las Vegas but not a bartender from Austin.  This isn't the regular show.  Here's a link to an explanation:

https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/special-tournament-stories/only-1-champ-will-be-greatest-all-time (https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/special-tournament-stories/only-1-champ-will-be-greatest-all-time)

Phyllis,  I'm with you about the texture of rhubarb. Feel the same way about celery.  The only time I've liked rhubarb is the one time I had rhubarb cream pie.

I finished sorting/stacking 6 months of the file yesterday. Hoping to get the other 6 months done today.
That particular "round tuit" keeps disappearing due to several series on Netflix with new seasons and e-books that keep appearing in my loans on the tablet.  ::)

We have water all about ,coming down  and laying around in ponds/puddles all over!! The temp has plummeted since this morning so everything will soon be ice. Put more feed out for the birds as where it was is now under water.

Mary Ann, put a recipe  here for you..

The recipe sounds good, Amy, and I saved it.

Callie, Rhubarb Cream Pie sound good too.  I have not heard of or seen around here.  If offered, I'd eat it.

Tom has left for Holland and I think he'll make it OK because with 50 degree temps last night, the roads are still warm.  He won't be back until evening and I have no idea what things will be like then.  I'm happy to stay inside.  I asked Tom to check the mail and as he did not come back inside, I know it was junk.

A good Saturday morning HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

I can't believe it is the weekend once again....this week just flew by!

AMY, so pleased to read that all is well with Kyle, and you were able to enjoy a nice rest of your day.

GLORIA, many people did not see the special show on Jeopardy, but it was advertised and commented on quite a bit, depending on what channels you watch, so you were not alone.  It will be on again next TUESDAY on CBS.

BUBBLE, it is good to see you back and hear that you are feeling much better.

My hubby has been down and out for 3 days with a cold....and it is not much better if any again today.  We have Lola Doodle here as Dave is having some work done at his home and they have to lock Lola up to keep her safe, so she has been here since Monday.

It is cold here, but we did not get much precipitation from the storm that is headed East now.

I hope you all all having a good day.

Jenny

Well, MARY ANN I'm another who won't be in church tomorrow.  I started out to drop some papers off for my son and got half way there and the car died.  I got it started again and drove it straight to the shop.  They took a quick look at it and decided I needed more than they had time for today so it's spending the weekend there and they will work on it on Monday.  They gave me a rid home and home I'll stay until Cathy picks me up tomorrow for some shopping.

Now I'm going to go and see if the zzzzs are piling up on the sofa and try to use some of them up.  Controversy always makes me tired.

And my eyes are burning.  They need some drops and a little rest.  And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Jane, I'm sorry to hear about your car.  In a way, I know what you are going through.  Tom bought a used car in 2016 that had many, many miles on it.  He is hoping he can get the mileage to 300,000 and he may yet.  However, there are noises in the car and when I ask  about them, he'll tell me it is something that would cost $500+ and I've told him to not put big money into maintenance.  He has taken care of the car as far as oil changes are concerned and he does a lot of driving.  I think when the weather is better he will look for another car and I will help him buy it.  It will be his car, but he is at my beck and call when I have an appointment.

I hope your car is returned sooner than what the servicement plan!

I did look out and see snow on the ground.  I am very  happy to be inside and especially without transportation, I'll stay here!  Dot is  staying in too.

Our winter storm warning is in effect until sometime Sunday.  At least it's not a blizzard.  Yet!

good afternoon, we had rain then freezing rain then snow. maybe the wet ground lower'd the depth.but we got about a short 2" measure of it. that is ok this way I won't make no snow cream and you sweet hearts won't have to scold me.
Nancy got diabetic cook book and is using it. she has also  bought some foods for diabetics, artificial sweeteners in them, and to my surprise they taste pretty good. we lost power for about 2 hours today. our house is well insulated and holds heat very good. we keep it on 74º and that 2 hours with out power only drooped the inside temp, to 69º. and the wend was strong out of the north. but we both often when setting in our easy chairs put lap blankets over us up to at least our chest. seams like us old folks blood is thinner. If i do not get back tonight Have sweet dreams.

Nice to see so many show up this evening! Jenny, been so busy keeping everyone put together it's hard to find time to just sit & visit. Sorry Bob is fighting a cold, know y'all will watch out for him, extra hug from this older sister.

Mary Ann, You are so wise and fair dealing with Tom, you are both lucky to have each other at this stage and know you appreciate each other. Wise lady, and in my world I would tell you that Norm is watching and gives you a hug to thank you, maybe you feel his presence now & then? I miss Norm's teasing as I'm sure you do.

Awwww, Jane, never a good time for a car to break down but at least it made it through the holidays & getting you RETIRED! Hope they can fix without too much time & parts.

Amy, I also went out to give the birds extra food this morning. Several of the neighbors that fed every day have moved so not sure who feeds anymore. They looked frantic this morning, searching the feeder & ground below. Ice covered & no shelter, was thinking about how to fix them a place where the food wouldn't get snow covered. That wind was blowing so hard last couple days it just rocks the feeders. Years ago I always had lots of doves that like to eat on the ground but only now & then do I see any.

Lloyd, glad Nancy got the cookbooks, sure is a change of what to eat. Like my neighbor said about choosing a piece of apple pie or a baked potato.... it's your choice!  Won't be long until spring and warmer weather. Soon be Feb and it warms up in March, right?  I always get a package of tomato seeds to start in cups in the house in Jan.... and plant outside by the middle of March (with those gallon milk jugs over them)... helps shorten the winter months, just pick a nice east window for sun & they pop up!

Bubble, hope you are all well by now, no word for a while so check in when you get time! My son's grands have had fever & throwing up bug this week so he is exposed but keeps taking Airborne. He swears by it. What is your weather like these days?  I hold my breath when backing my little car out of the garage & know that whole pad is solid ice, right up to where the motorhome is parked. I'm sure I will slide into it on these dark Sunday mornings. Once I get side by side the snow or ice is melted by the sun. I checked while ago & solid ice for about the length of the car right out the door. Bummer...Most of the snow is gone where the sun could hit, even though I don't think we got above freezing today. Take care, you are very important to all of us!

I'm off to take my Sat night bath/shower and lay out my clothes for morning. Sweet dreams to all and God bless!

Good morning everyone.

Nasty weather out there this morning. Started during the night as I heard the ice pellets hit the side of the house. This is going to be interesting on moving it, may have to do it by hand??

Jane, oh no, car break down is not fun, I too, hope it is an easy fix for you.If  you are getting what we are staying home is a good thing today. Roads  could be very slippery with the ice pellets.

Shirley, looks as though I may also have to look for a better place to put feed. It didn't take long for the birds to find it in the new spot yesterday but not sure that will be a good one today.

Mary Ann, our storm started last night and is still going strong..hope by day light it peters out.We also like a rhubarb custard pie, maybe that is the same as the rhubarb cream pie?

Jenny, thank you, we were delighted with the report . Hope Bob feels better soon. Doodles are such smart loving dogs..

Lloyd, you can find lots of diabetic recipes on line too..

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe!

The cough and dripping nose don't want to part with me; but I am better and can stay out off bed for the whole day without being exhausted.
The weather is still extremely cold for Israel -under 10C (50F) that is unbearable for me even with the heater on. My bad circulation of course makes it feel even more. Our houses are not well insulated and the icy wind seeps through :(  It's the problem with big sliding windows in every room. In US you are more used to real winters.
I am bundled up in three layers of winter clothes and with a knitted cap covering my hair and ears. Quite a sight I am sure!

I wish I could have a roaring wood fire in front of me to warm my hands.
But then I think of Australia and I realize that I should not complain, it is so much worse there.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I see that I forgot to say "good night" last night but I have a really good excuse.  Frankie called to say that she had a ride and would like to come spend the evening and the night with me.  Of course, I said "COME".  We got wrapped up in talking and reminiscing and walking the doggies in the dark and were still talking strong when it was time to go to bed.

AMY, we are definitely NOT having the kind of weather you are.  We are in the midst of our January Thaw.  The temperature right now is 58 degrees and it hit the 60s yesterday.  I know we're in for some hard weather in February but I'm enjoying every minute of this winter break.  Saving on the oil bill, too!

Cathy will be picking me up later and we're going to go look at floors....the kind that look like hardwood without all the "hard" work involved.  We're also going to take a look at area rugs on the way.  She's the one in my family who got the decorating sense.  I'm not sure who she got it from because it wasn't me and it certainly wasn't her father's family.  Maybe it was my FIL's family.  There were some very nice pieces of furniture passed down through his family.

Anyway, that's my day for today.  If we happen to be out at lunch time, maybe I can convince her to let me buy her lunch.  I don't get to do that very often.

I better wrap this up.  it's almost time for the boinger and I have two doggies to feed this morning.  Frankie is always accompanied by Cooper and he's such a sweetie but he always gets hungry when it's time to feed Mickie.  So I oblige and Frankie sleeps in an extra hour!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And share with us HOW you "made it your own".

Added note!  BUBBLE, I'm glad you are feeling better and I hope your weather changes for the better soon.  I know how it is to be cold and not be able to get warm.  You're outfit sounds like some of my winter get-ups.  It seems the older I get the less I can take the cold!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 1, 2020

Me, too, not handling the cold like I used to. I know I don't move as much as a few years ago so probably one reason my body won't build up steam, goodness, remember when we used to be in a hurry to "grow up?"

Bubble, I know what you mean about the doors & windows, this house has sliding doors in every room with same size window for the door to slide past, but the original owner that we bought from had installed heavy, dark tinted windows & doors over every existing window & door. Helps in summer & winter, but only way to get fresh air is to open a door, those storm windows only come off with major work & hefty men to be able to lift off. I discovered when out camping that "hoodies" are perfect for cold weather sleeping or just messing around, keeps the back of the neck warm as well as ears & head. I shop for all cotton because the other fabrics don't breathe & I get too hot. Hope your mild weather returns soon.

Better go see how bad the ice is on the driveway, I'm sure the streets are clean except where the water has re-frozen & black ice can spin a car around fast. I like a challenge. ;)

Wishing all a happy day. I also envy you that wood fire, Amy. My fireplace chimney needs to be cleaned & checked out, one of those jobs you don't think about when not needed and nobody wants the job when freezing cold!

As usual, the forecast was worse than actual.  We had rain last night and I don't know if roads are slippery or not, but we did not get the winds or snow predicted.  The forecast was so bad that Dot called she was not going to church this morning.  And when Dot does not go to church, I don't either, because she is the driver.  Neither my church nor Tom's church were listed on TV as being closed.

My condo unit is an inside unit, so I have "insulation" on both sides.  I do have a northern exposure with a slider and if the wind comes from the north, I notice the cold but the south exposure is the front door and two windows with a brick exterior.  I have a very small gas bill - $41 a month.

Much of our state will see worse weather than we are having so I am thankful for that.

I saw a report from Petoskey (200 miles north of here) about Lakes Michigan and Huron and water levels.  It said over 3% of the lakes were frozen so far this year and that was a high percentage and it would mean the lakes would have high water levels again this year and it would also mean more shore erosion.

Now I'm off to Dreamland and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend! I've been awake since 4 a.m. and up since a little before 5.  I've had something on my mind and when I woke up it invaded and wouldn't let me go back to sleep. So I got up and dealt with it and I feel better already.

AMY, you are absolutely right!  I had an almost perfect day yesterday and I'll take one of those whenever I can get it.  Among other things, Cathy told me that next weekend is one of the Amish Store's twice yearly 20% off EVERYTHING weekend and do I want to go.  You all know my answer to that question!  If I don't stock up on anything but paper goods, I'll be ahead!  It's already more than a dollar less than the supermarket and with 20% off that yet, I can't lose!

I hope the birdies aren't crying for their food.  That might not be a pretty sound!

I have no plans for today but one of the workers is supposed to be here to install a storm door on the front of my house.  And I think he has one more thing to do too but I forgot what.

Our weather has dropped back in to winter temps.  It was 28 when I got up this morning and it's only up to 30 right now.  It is heading for a high of 50 and I'll take that but it won't stay at that temp very long.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good morning everyone. I will try notepad again and see what happens. It was hard to believe the 60's over the week end. January thaw? We had nothing to thaw so far. Already in the 40's this morning and no sun again. So tired of these gloomy days so the sun all day yesterday was a treat.I did spend a few hours outside yesterday. Woke late again and have not heard about a CNA for today. I am about ready to call my insurance and tell them I am not getting the help they want for me.

JANE  if  the shopping wore you out the other day, imagine how I felt when my son took me a couple of ago. Took a week for me to recuperate from it. I did enjoy the afternoon but paid for it later. I stocked up on a lot of things and still having t rouble finding a place for everything.

Sorry I have not replied to everyone but getting late and want my breakfast and get  dressed before someone shows up.

Have a good day.

Bedtime in Kansas & I'm ready. I was a little hungry so fixed me a poached egg on crackers like my mother used to fix for us when we didn't know what we were hungry for. Have to eat in a big mug with a chunk of butter over those crumbled crackers. Also heated me a big cup of coffee so that will help put me to sleep fast.

Tom just walked past me wanting out only I was on the phone & not paying attention, so he backed up to a box on the floor & "claimed" it... then he tried to cover it up but how do you cover a puddle on hardwood floors?  I yelled & son tried to hang up but I could reach the door to let Tom out & still talk... also could reach the paper towels to clean up the puddle because this old wall phone has a 25' cord on it & will reach all around the room. The portable phone will reach but I can't get it to stick between my shoulder & ear & keep talking. After Tom went out Callie thought she should so only one inside is Tiger & she went to the basement. Callie bosses the kids & they back off when she swats them & hisses, but when Tom is outside she wants out with him. She will be at the front door before I turn out the lights, but Tom may stay out for hours since it is above freezing. He knows to come to the bedroom sliding door & somehow I can feel him watching me sleep.. will wake up & let him in. Cats rule in this house!

Wishing all sweet dreams, Gloria, hope your fav CNA gets back soon, I can imagine how good a back rub would feel. Do you eat in your room a lot or "with the group?" A friend of mine lives in John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, MO & they have 6 or 7 places to eat on the site.  Several of the places he can get to without going outside. I wish there was something like it here, but not, and prices are half what we pay here. Ah, well.. tonight, after cleaning up Tom's mess, I am ready to move! By morning I will be giving him a hug.

Coming in to say "goodnight" to EVERYFRIEND! We have been watching the LSU / Clemson game and it is definitely time to head off to bed.

We had a Bobcat cross the two driveways across the street this afternoon and since we have a camera out front we captured it and shared it with the neighbors.  I feel badly for these poor wild animals....we have moved into their area and they have no where to go.  If I knew how I would post the video.

I got a picture of my Dad's wound on his arm today and I could not believe how good it looked.  He was to the doc this morning and they unwrapped it and said it was good now and they would not wrap it anymore.  It has been three weeks since he fell and ripped it open and he sure did a great job of healing....I am so thankful.

Michele unfortunately came down with this cold bug that so many have right now.....she has surprisingly managed to stay pretty healthy throughout her chemo and radiation time, in spite of the kids coming home with a few bugs.  This cold really got her though, like it has to most people that caught it.  She will go for her PET scan in early February and of course she is hopeful she will get a clean report....positive thoughts and prayer for that🙏🙏🙏

I am sorry we do not have more posters also as I sure do not want to loose our special place!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning everyone..

Today is to be nice, tomorrow not so. I am going to do what I should have done yesterday. Yesterday we tackled snow by the mailbox, Kyle chopped into it while the snowblower blew it away. Being in a rural area  need to keep the snow away from the mailbox so the driver can get in close to put the mail in it.
May be wise just to get on with the day, not mentioning what needs to be done and get it done!

Jane, by the time I got all shook up with the snow blower I was tuckered. Not going to complain as we have had an easy winter.....so far. I did half a batch 8 cups of milk for the yogurt and got 2  peanut butter jars full 2.2 lb jar. Leaving this the way it is not putting it into Greek yogurt. I find that if I use the mixer/beaters on it ,it doesn't separate as much.

Shirley, as kids Mom would give us eggs in a mug with butter ,my egg would be hard boiled along with a piece of toast. Pets always rule the home.....wouldn't have it any other way.

Gloria, hope your CNA came and did what you wanted them to do.

Jenny, prayers for Michelle, ,her immune system is down and she will pick up colds etc quick.

Phyliss, hope you have a great day today, no vertigo!!

Lloyd, how are you doing , know it is not easy  following the diabetic menu but like a lot of others you can do it.

Joy and Rolly......hope you both pop in and say hello...

Darn. now thanks to Janes echo and my hello again I have Little sir echo singing in my head!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept better again last night and I think I might have found at least one of the culprits that are invading my sleep.  A while back I decided that my pillow needed replacing and that's when I began not sleeping as well.  Two separated times in the last two weeks, I chose to use my old pillow and those are the two times that I slept through the night.  I'm giving it another shot tonight and if I sleep through tonight, that new pillow goes on the other bed.

JENNY, I said a prayer that Michele will weather this last trial of a cold.  She's a real trooper and I'd sure be happy to have her on MY team.  You must all be very proud of her.  And I'm so happy for your father!  He sounds like a fighter, too!

Don't know what's coming my way today.  I got my car back yesterday and it didn't break the bank but they told me it has another problem that needs attention in the near future so I'll be keeping that in mind.

I think I might start on the back room today.  It's about 12 years past time.  Nothing like putting things off, right?  it's going to take me about 12 years to get through this one!  Maybe that's why I keep putting it off!  Oh well....

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And come in here and tell us about it!  Good morning AMY.  You sneaked in while I was writing!

Good morning everyone, wow JANE a whole 12 hours since I posted in the morning and you posted last night. Like you said WHERE WAS EVERYONE? Everyone leaving us? Did I say something that chased so many away? Comeon people  get in here, do you want the SS to close up because noone comes in here?

SHIRLEY  this place has no place to eat except in our own apartments. Only when for a special occasion the owners give us a dinner, like a cook out in the summer and a couple of times a year there will be a pot luck meal where everyone signs up to to bring something. This is just a building with 53 apartments for those over 65.

JENNY  my oldest son got a cold about a month ago android is just about over it now. Oh last evening after Jepardy they mentioned a thing about big winners for 3 nights the end of this month. On Tuesdays after Jepardy is NCIS and then I ususally shut the TV off ang get ready for bed. So sorry Michelle now has a cold, she sure does not need that.

AMY  the house my son owns where I had an apartment, same goes with snow, keep approaches to mailbox clear, the box is on the house so there are stairs to clear. There is also a fire hydrant at the end of the driveway where I parked and he had to keep that clear, too. I  did get a CNA yesterday, one I had when she first started and she sure has improved. I know she goes to a few others in this building as I see her often. I sure remember that song but the link will not open for me, says error.

JANE  car trouble makes me glad I no longer own a car. I would not be able to drive even if I had one. Yikes, I think it is about time to tackle that room. Now that you are retired you have the time, right? Just think you might find treasures in there. When I get finished typing here I will make my breakfast.

LLOYD  35 here but it is another gray  gloomy day.

Amy, I enjoyed hearing Bing sing Little Sir Echo.  He didn't sing all the words that were printed alongside the pictures, but that was OK; I remembered the words and sang along with him.  Tom's former MIL and I have fun singing that song whenever we are together.

I had my hair cut this morning and as I was getting ready the Salon called me that the stylist was ill and another was available at 9 am, 15 minutes earlier.  I took the appt and even switched to the new stylist because I like her hours better.  Afterward, Tom and I had breakfast at a next door restaurant and Tom's SIL and her mother joined us.

Robin will be here about 3 pm to clean for us and I'll find something else for her to do.  I have a computer room that needs sorting, but it is a job for me, no one else.  I can find more piles of work for her to move.

It's another dreary day but as long as there is no rain or snow, I don't care.  Now I'm going to look for ships on the St Clair River.

Good Afternoon !

I thought I better make an appearance.  The past couple weeks have been very stressful.  Seems I just get over one thing and something else shows up.

After my couple weeks after going through my minor surgery on my face. the doctor had given me some cream to use on my nose for some sun damage and that really did a job on me.  I was supposed to use it for 6 weeks, but after 4 weeks I went back to the doctor and she said I could stop using it.  My nose was a mess, but the nurse had told me that I would be so pleased after it healed up. And, I am.  Took several weeks to heal up and the scab to come off, but it is fine now. I had been in my place for over 2 weeks and I was about "climbing the walls".  Finally got out and then I had news about a very close cousin to me had passed away.  Then  I started having problems with my feet.  I have so much problems with calluses and cracks on my feet and they are really so sore right now. So, I go from one thing to another.  I had wanted to go to the funeral for my cousin, but I just could not get my shoes on without them hurting so bad.  So, I am just staying very lazy and trying to take care of my feet now.  I have been soaking them in Shirley's old stand-by " Epsom salts". I think they feel a little better today. So, you can understand when I say that I use get over one problem and something else is right ready to take it's place.   I had to go for an echogram yesterday and I had a hard time walking because of my feet.  I didn't want to cancel that appointment, so I struggled to get there. The doctor called me later in the day and said everything was good, but then told me that there was a small valve leakage and he would talk about that next week when I see him. Don't know what that will be all about, even with him telling me that everything was good.  Medicare won't  pay to have the echogram and the doctor's visit at the same time.  So, that means another doctor's visit next Monday. I am just so ready to go and crawl in a hole. LOL

So much for all my problems. I sure hope everyone is doing better than I am.

Jenny, so glad your dad's arm is improving,  but sorry Michele has had such a bad cold.  But, I am sure the doctor is keeping on top of it.  I am so lucky, as I have not had a cold for a long time.

At least the weather isn't too cold.  But, they did mention some of that "white stuff" might be on tap for the weekend.

I can't wait for spring to arrive.  I think I saw last week that spring was 72 days away.  Can't come fast enough.

Mary Ann, glad you were able to get a hair cut and you liked the new girl.  That is a big plus when you are happy with your hairdresser.  I had mine done yesterday, also, as I hadn't had it done for a couple weeks.  This gal comes to our place on Monday's and she is just great.  She had told me that she would wait until I got back from the doctor's, no matter what time it was. As it was, I wasn't gone long, and she didn't have any more people to do by the time I got back.  She is so good and quick.  I do get her to set it in rollers and I get under the dryer, as I don't have a permanent anymore and setting it makes it stay curled longer.  She is such a sweet lady and everybody here just loves her. She fits in good with all the residents here, and has slowly built up a good amount of customers. There is another gal who comes in on Thursdays, and she is always so busy, too.   I really like the gal who does my hair now.

I think I have rambled on enough and I do want to go take care of my feet.

I hope everyone is feeling good and will have  good afternoon and evening.

.Joy

Joy, if it wasn't for Drs appointments we wouldn't go anywhere! Can you put Vaseline on your feet before bed time and cover them with sox? I know I couldn't do that as I don't like wearing sox in bed...but if it helps your feet, may be worth it.

Joy, I'm following right along with that "patch up one thing & brings up another". Started with the knee going & that caused pain in the neck & head so bad I was sure when I went to lay my head down it would fall off if I didn't hold it with both hands & pillow under to let it down gently. The head pains were all over head, neck & face but 2 rounds of augmentin helped the sinus infection and concentrating on NOT clinching my teeth & jaw when making that sore knee do it's thing, helped the neck muscles. Still working on the head pains but put in 2 carbon monoxide detectors (can cause head aches), they don't beep so next to the eye doctor, one the nurse recommended. 2nd opinion says I do have cataracts that need to go but eyes are healthy. That leads to a "release" by cardio before eye surgery so appointment with him in another week. He had recommended last spring that the valve be replaced again & only 6 years instead of 15 promised... but there is a new one out not approved but sounds worth the wait, if mine will wait. All in all, like you, find a big enough hidey hole & I'll join you! Now that all doctors have said knee & neck have "severe arthritis", I noticed those parts ache more in the damp cold... head case, I am!  :crazy2: At least we aren't in this getting old alone & nice to have others to understand, right? By the way, with the knee acting up I decided to go back to barefoot but too cold for that. Those darn sox with the no-skid soles don't like to stay on my feet & even the UGG house shoes my daughter gave me, cause more knee twist... so I got out the part wool Columbia sox I bought for hiking boots & am wearing them around the house. I did actually take them OFF & stood bare foot when on a bench, taking down a couple Christmas decorations. Seemed to help to let the feet spread out & toes move around for balance. I wear tennis shoes around the house & bought Ecco ankle boots for doctor appointments & church... haha, I don't go anywhere to really dress up anymore!

Gloria, I am shocked that isn't the a full fledged retirement center since the dictator has so much control!  For sure you don't have to put up with her crap & can organize your own fun things to do, y'all have rights & if you want to get together for a party you should be able to set the date & reserve that room & have a ball!  My, my, Shirley, you are a trouble maker!

It is nice out, gloomy but warmer than January should be. I stood at the door & talked to a robin while ago, I would say something & it would chirp back. We've had them do this before and the city naturalist told me that mild winters they will stay in a park on the south side of the city that has lots of trees & bushes... and they run back in town to see what feeders are out because they sure aren't going to get any worms around here! Fish & worms have gone to deeper water & ground. Oh, there is the sun & my eyes are watering. Been pretty cloudy for days.

Got errands to run so better get a move on. We really are closer to spring so hang in there!!!!

Good morning everyone,  Gosh 7 am and it  is still dark out and 37.Wonder if it will be another gloomy day In 10 days we had 1 day of sunshine and that was last Sunday when we broke a record for the warmest January day since they started keeping records.
I had the CNA I have had since Monday about 3 years ago when she started the job. Been having a good time and laughing with  her. Don't know who I will have the next 2 days. When she was new she was quiet and really didn''t know what to do, now she keeps asking what else I want her to do. Today is laundry day and she already knows that.

JOY  we used to have a retired hair dreeser come here but I only had my hair cut once with her, a chop job is what sne did. My DIL cuts it when needed. She cut it New Year's day when I was there for dinner. One of the ladies here asked me if she would come and cut her hair. I told her I would ask. I know she cuts her son's and my son's hair but that is family. She used to give perms to some of her friends but they went to her house. This lady is like me, she doesn't drive either.

AMY  my DIL wears sox to bed even in the summer. I knit her a few pairs of slippers and made them higher around the ankles and she wears a pair of them to bed every night. I cannot do it. I always seeem to stick my feet out from under the covers as soon as they get warm in bed.

SHIRLEY  you are not a head case with damp and really cold weather, that is whem my back kills me. With all these damp days we have beem having you know I am not a happy camper these days. That Hempvana cream helps because it sinks in fast. On Wednesday evening they have bingo in the community room but I hate bingo and one night they have a card game I tried but do not like and on Friday they have coffee and pastry that every one makes or buys. Too late for me. I usually am in my nightgown and robe by 7. After being dressed during the day I feel tied in and wearing a corset-never did wear one of those.

I want a good snow storm, not a blizzard- but a good old fasioned one of 2 feet of so. Clean the air out of germs. Just in the 20's and no lower , no zero, that would be too cold. I can no longer play in the snow but I would like to sit on the porch near the railing and feel the snow falling and hitting my face. Until my back made me stop doing much os anything I would shovel snow and even that I enjoyed.

Have a good day.

I'm just stopping by to check up on all of you and then I'm off to Dreamland.  I hope everyone who is feeling poorly today will feel better tomorrow and everyone who feels good will stay that way.

I spent most of today starting to go through all the "stuff" I've saved over the years and I have a car trunk load to take to my son's dumpster and two empty boxes.  I also ran the sweeper and almost finished all the carpeted floors.  Tomorrow is another day.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
