The importance of words

What we say to one another, not only here but elsewhere is important.

Words have the power to wound, inspire, encourage, and stimulate. So  they are important.

I would not be who I am if it weren't for the words I've read and had said to me. And those words have a ripple effect on those around us. What we share here and in our daily contact with others, sometimes gives someone a new viewpoint, something new to think about.

And words are important, YES! Else why are we here at this site talking to one another? And why are we so affected by the beauty of Shakespeare's words when he holds up mirrors for us to see ourselves?

Lady C.

 THIS WE SEEK...

A craddle rocked so gently
A languid hand pats sofly
A tiny mouth sucks greedy:
This is your real world.

A desk, a screen humming quietly
Dictionaries piled randomly
References searched avidly
This is my own world.

Worlds apart, we meet happily;
Different, but we care deeply;
Other truth, but we feel deeply;
This becomes our world.

Our language we discard eagerly
A common one we adopt quickly;
New concepts we explore hungrily
This is a new world.

The past remembered eventually,
History recorded faithfully:
Its mistakes avoided carefully
In our better world.

ET

Wonderful, beautiful graphics, Bubble, and the words are as impressive, especially the one signed "ET". Is that your own composition? Thank you for the clean slate, glad to see you must be feeling better. We have kind of an icky day ahead so feeding the cats early & out for a run before it turns colder.

Good Morning, Friends! Wishing all a HAPPY DAY!  Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And thank you BUBBLE for our nice, clean, happy new Soda Shoppe!  I like all the new "welcome" pics and info.

I'll be off to get ready for breakfast out this morning.  What's left of my high school classmates gather for breakfast once a month and now, thanks to my retirement, I'm going to be able to rejoin them.  It seems impossible that it was 67 years ago that we graduated high school and we've remained friends all those years.  There are not as many of us as there once were and it seems every time we get together lately, we spend a moment giving thanks for the life of another classmate that is no longer with us.  But those of us who remain, are still the best of friends and that's good because we share a lot of good memories, both from our school years and over the years since.

I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in everyway!

And come here to share it with us....whatever it is you do!

EDIT: Have fun, Jane... glad you are getting a chance to visit the old friends. I don't live where I went to school but at least once a year we gather and greet each other. Was the year '54?  (I don't do math if I can get out of it).

Good morning everyone..

We are expecting bad weather but the worse is to come on the weekend.

Yesterday I got caught up in cleaning out drawers and closets...ran across items that brought old memories.  Not  sure what today will bring as I would like to clean out another room...I already have a large garbage bag of clothing ready for Sally Ann and will start on another.

Bubble thank you for the new start page. Love the graphic and the powerful words in This We Seek.

Jane, enjoy your reunion. Nice to meet up with old friends and talk about the past and future!

Shirley I see you are doing your exercises. Hope you miss the icky weather.

Better get a move on...

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe!

Good Morning,

Thank you,, Bubble, for the nice new page.

Janie,  Special friends like the ones you're meeting for breakfast are priceless.  There are 4 remaining of the "Super Six" girls who started First Grade together in 1941 and graduated h.s. together in 1953.  None of us have lived in the same town since then but we've gotten together over the years and still keep in touch via phone calls, e-mails and texts.

I'm going to my Book Club meeting this morning.  We're discussing "Boom Town", a history of Oklahoma City woven in with the story of the Thunder professional basketball team.  'Twas an interesting book and should be a lively discussion.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning everyone, it is morning isn't it? I was so sleepy last night I got ready for bed early, shut the TV off and put the computer to sleep and went to bed. Woke and started my day but could not figure why it was so dark out. I posted here. Had my coffee and my breakfast, still black out. Then I checked my email and one of our cyber family wrote and asked if I was OK. It was night not morning. I only slept a couple of hours but was wide awake. I had the TV on and could figure out why the shows I am used to seeing at that time had changed. Finally looked at the time on the computer and it said PM.  I keep saying I am losing it. The sun is shining Oh Happy Day.

BUBBLE  love the beautiful little girl tube with the owl. Makes me want to delete all the ones I had saved. You are so right with This We Seek. Where would we be without words? Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  wonderful you can get to breakfast now with your old classmates.

SHIRLEY  glad I am not the only one with an oops.

Better get a move on.
Have a good day.

The day goes by fast or maybe I am just slow!! I did get some cleaning done but do need to get into another room and purge it also. I have papers to go through now that 7 years have passed but not sure I want to get rid of most. Will deal with that tomorrow.

Jessie just brought in 5 sticks of wood....he has two more on the ground and will likely bring them in tonight...yes Jane, he did  get a special treats for this plus hugs too!

Fed the birds again and hope they got their tummies full before the snow comes. it did snow a bit but nothing to worry about.

Have a quilt to finish and hunt up two backings for others but that too is for another day..

Gee, I am getting good at passing things off for another day. :)

There were 8 classmates and 2 spouses (who also attended our high school).  We all go back to 1953 graduation but the 8 classmates all go back to 5th grade when I moved to Lewisburg.  And one of the spouses was also in that school but a year behind us and the other spouse was in the school but 3 years behind us.  So we go back to the mid 1940s as friends.  The schools were so small then that everyone knew everyone!

Then I spent the afternoon with my granddaughter and I'm done in!  I came home, took Mickie for a walk and then went to sleep on the couch.  I slept through 2 phone calls and 3 text messages!  Never heard them at all.

Not gonna do another thing tonight!

I hope your day was as interesting as mine but I hope it wasn't as tiring!

well I steeped out on the deck, right now it is 16º and clear, sky is full of shining stars, weather guesser is saying going to get cloudy after while. and snow tomorrow. Nancy fusses about me being a couch jockey so much, but I do not fuss about the naps she takes during the day. I just cant take the cold any more Like i used to. back when I would put on a coat with a hood on it get on the bulldozer. with the fan blowing to the rear put a piece of barn tin on both sides to funnel the heat back on my feet and legs work ten or more hours. no more those days are long gone. so do like i do stay in and stay warm. we have nice warm brick sided house with plenty insulation in it, we have a farm tap on one of the four pipe lines that cross our land. so natural gas furnace to keep us warm.Nancy keeps the t stat set on 74º. I tell her I have paid my dues. when spring temperature's get here and warm out is time enough to go to shop. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone...

Looks like we have our work cut out for this morning...not sure if I will get it done before or after the chiropractor appointment for Kyle. Snow is still falling o maybe wait and get it all.

Lloyd, good morning. Kyle and I were discussing the work we have done up until retirement and we both know that we can't do that anymore. I loved the work, some jobs more than others but thoroughly enjoyed it!

Better go and see how bad the driveway is...

Good morning Bubble. :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept through the night again.  I went to bed right after I posted here (I think it was a little after 11) and I slept until almost 7 without waking one time.  That pillow is definitely OUT!

BUBBLE, the only "ET" I know of is E.T. The Extra Terrestrial".  Are you quoting him?

The only thing I have on tap for today is a couple of phone calls to return.  My plan is to eat, sleep and get started on that back room.  I am NOT going to go anywhere today!

LLOYD, it sounds like you an I are doing the same thing these day....Nothing!  I think we earned it!

AMY, you earned it too but I don't think you know how to do nothing.  Come to think of it, that might turn out to be kind of boring!  I'll let you know after today!

It's almost time for the boinger and breakfast.

I wish you all a happy day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with us!

Good morning.  Nothing exciting happened so far this morning,

It is a pretty sunny morning, but very windy.  They are calling for a wintry mess for the week end.

My foot is better this morning, but I still won't be doing much. I just don't want to aggravate it.

Lloyd, the breakfast that Nancy made sounds delicious !  I hope you are feeling better and behaving yourself. LOL

Jane, so glad you had a good night's sleep. I have been sleeping better, but still get up a couple times.

I hope everyone has a very pleasant day.

:snowball: The snow is all cleaned up and chiropractor appointment done. The drive to town was just beautiful with the new snow hugging  the branches of the trees. Now the sun is out and soon the snow in the branches will be gone.
Played Frisbee with the pup for a while, at times the frisbee would get buried in the snow but he soon dug it out.

Jane, I think after the waltz with the snowblower I may just sis and sew.....sounds like a plan to me.

Joy, hope your foot feels better soon. Difficult to talk when your feet are hurting.

I really think I did talk myself into just sewing..works for me..

Good morning everyone, guess I made up for the crazy sleep I didn't get. Woke this morning at almost 9:30  and here I am already with my coffee. Had some rain over night and looks like the sun might break through the clouds.

AMY  you "passing things off for another day" sounds like you are retired but you still work to hard to be retired. Keep getting Jessie bringing in wood and maybe she will take over that job for you?

JANE  yep you are retired when you can sleep through phone calls. I am good at that. At one time they had at least 2 schools in this town with 2 rooms and 4 grades. That  was in the ea rly 50's. My 3 went to one of them but by that time there was only first and second grades. Their father went to that school, too.

LLOYD like you I cannot take  the cold like I used to but if the sun is shining and I can sit in the sun and out of the wing I can oy the fresh air.

BUBBLE  hope the new wheel chair will be more comfortable for you. I know how tiring it is to get in a car  and go more than 15 minutes away. Takes days to get rested again.

I better get moving, just got a pnone call tha t i will ge t a CNA at 11:45 and here it is  11 already.

Have a good day.

Jane this time ET is Bubble..

Nick Names? I was in high school and in a AG class. we went a field trip, Learning how to lay out tares's. was in the fall and in a corn field that had been picked. that year lot of dropped ears of corn. we got to throwing them at each other, the teacher called us down. It started up again and the prof pointed his finger at and said that would be all or out of his class we would be. So I got out of the crowd and started walking down by the pond where there were some duck's. the other children yelled that is right Hammond go down there by your web footed friends.someone yelled webfoot. and that stuck and spread through the whole school. for the longest time but finely the foot part got dropped and still today some people address me as webb. My mother was fit to be tied she said i thought I named all my children something that could not be nick named. that is ok I do not care what you call me as long do not use swear words and call me in time to eat.
is 21º and 15 MPH wend out of the north.the house is nice and warm, the furnace is coming on often. we Have a farm tap on natural gas. was level pay of $87.? now they raised it got the new bill today $150.and some change. seams every thing goes up except our income. sad we produced so many children to have to take on the burden. I am off of the block now and going to bed soon. as soon as I take my insulin shot. good thin it has so tine needle do not feel it. so no pain. good night. sweet dreams.

I really thought Bubble was claiming that it was NOT her "ET" that was there, so I was casting around for another one.  When I first read it, I, too thought it was her own composition.  And you know something?  She's not confirming OR denying!  OK! BUBBLE, is it you or isn't it?  'Fess up!

I'm still guessing with y'all.... is ET the composer or is it really our Bubble

Everyone left & I had to take my dumpster to the street so had a nice walk in brisk air & still sleepy so think it is time to turn in. Sons & spouses brought Applebee food so enjoyed that & even got things fixed for the Kindle & the computer, thanks to #1 son.

Had messages & calls from the grands & kids & a surprise bouquet of flowers from my daughter. I've always hated to have them spend money on me but for some reason when those flowers arrived I just decided to enjoy & appreciate. I'll take a photo in the daylight to show you. It has been a long day with no nap. I am finally 85 so can quit saying "almost".

It was supposed to start rain/sleet/snow at 5:00 pm but they moved it to 8:00 and it is still dry out. Going to keep cats in tonight so I won't be watching the door for a frozen kitty. Tom decided he HAD to go out since he won't go out during day light... and he needs some exercise. Hope he decides to come in before I fall asleep.

Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Shirley

Shirley in case you do not already Know, I will give you and the rest f the girls a Tip on keeping your cut flowers pretty much longer,

Here is what you do

Get a quart of warm wetter to the point you would do baby formal (test on your arm same as formal) put 2 or 3 drops of bleach and two teaspoons of sugar in it. then cut 1/4" t0 1/2" off at a 45º off of the steams.put in the water and ever 4-5 days change the water and repeat same.that will make them Last up to 5 or 6 weeks. try it i think you will be pleased with it and the effort.

Good morning everyone. My son popped in yesterday when the CNA was here. I was going to send her to pick up some meds for me and trying to tell her where it was and my son said he would take me. Great. When she left he took me to the new Walgreen's, they bought out the Riteaid pharmacy and every thing changed for 2 months already. Got the meds and he brought me home and left. I always had them put the easy open caps because I cannot open the childproof ones, They did not put then on so I missed a couple of my meds last night and will have to see if anyone is around today whe can open them for me. I called then in Monday and told them I would get then picked up Thursday morning. What a line waiting to be served. Glad I had my rollator to sit on. Looked like some of the ones behind the counter didn't know what they were doing. The one who waited on me had to go to 3 different locations to get the  4 of them.  I will be looking for a different place to get them if this keeps up. We have a CVS in town and they deliver but I went there when I first moved here. I gave them the list of all of them and would get 1 today and in a few days I might get 3 and then I would get some more. Every time I would come up short in at least 1 med. I tried White Cross and they deliver only what is in envelopes and nothing else unless I called them. I heard good things about Riteaid so transfered them there. Every 3 months they called and said they were ready to pick up. Only my pain pills did I have to call the doctor to send the script in and send someone for them.

LLOYD  I never had a nickname except one sister called me Glor-that is what I used in SN. and a neighfor called me Glo and I woulf not answer her. Told her my name is Gloria and she finally called me by my name. I never cared for nicknames.

SHIRLEY  after being in the mid 60's on Sunday right now here it is 17 and windy, wonder wha t the wind chill is, maybe feels like 0 or the single numbers.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY A DAY LATE. that's me a day late and a dollar  short.

hello to every onw who comes in later. I woke too early and was hungry so had my breakfast already. Think I will go see if I can get a few more ZZZZ's

Have a good day.

Happy Belated Birthday, Shirley!  As Amy said, it sounds like you had a happy day!  I also wish you many more happy and HEALTHY ones to come!

[/AMY, that poster is exactly right.  It is hard to do NOTHING because even when you're not doing anything you're really DOING nothing!

I had lunch with a dear friend yesterday.  We raised our kids together and worked in Girl Scouts together for a lot of years.  She's a lot like the people on here.  She celebrated her 90th birthday last summer and she's still living in her home, driving herself around and taking care of herself.  We try to get together at least once a month.

Today, I'm going to continue with the sorting of "stuff"!  There's waaaay too much of it!

Road running is done for today. We went to the coffee shop and one of the regulars had his granddaughter there...what a delight she is...maybe 3 yrs old and so good. She was enjoying eating the peanut butter and jam out of the single servings. Grandpa soon called a halt to that and said there was some fruit at home. Looks to me she has Grandpa right by the heart!! Others were also enjoying the repour between these two, especially one gentleman who is waiting on his first great grand child!! Better get back to the floors :)

Good morning.    Pretty sunny morning, but a wintry mess is predicted for tomorrow.

I am feeling better, thankfully.  Just have to remember to keep on taking good care of my feet.

Shirley,  I want to wish you a very belated Happy Birthday !   We will only just be the same age until mine arrives in May.  I honestly never think about how old I am.  It is just a number.  Except, that new number keeps coming up faster and faster these days.

I need to clean out my fridge...... a job I keep putting off, but I really have to get to it this morning.

Hope everyone has a super day !!

Good Afternoon.

Miserable weather in Oklahoma.  Western area has ice.  The rest of us have really cold rain.

Belated  :hb3: Shirley

You're now a year older than I am.  I turned 84 in December. Friends teased me all through school about being the last one to do this or that (like getting driver's license).  I had such fun reminding them who was the last one to turn 40 - and 50 - and 60, etc.

Son took me to eye doctor this morning to be sure things were going as well as I thought they were. He said I had done exactly the right thing - hot compresses, "shampooing" eye with baby shampoo and using ointment doctor had given me last August for allergies.  Eye is healed and "weepiness" is caused by tear imbalance.  OTC Systane eye drops twice a day should help with that.
Both sons had been fussing at me because I had insisted it would clear up and refused to go to doctor earlier.
Kind of fun to be able to say "Told you so".

Sounds as if the next two days will be good to stay indoors.....and so I shall.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND🦋  We have sunshine today, but we also have horrible winds that are reeking havoc all over the place.

Today Betty White is 98 years old....what an inspiration that lady is for all of us.  I did have to chuckle when one interview I read said, "I attribute my longevity to drinking vodka and eating hot dogs, and LOTS of them"!  It shows a good sense of humor is a very important part too😘

CALLIE, being able to say, "I told you so" is fun isn't it?  Thank goodness your plan of attack worked out for you!

It is Friday already....where do these day, weeks and months go?

I wish you all a GREAT day!

Good afternoon.we had freezing rain Has stopped now. But before it did give us a short 1/2" we are at 33º But dropping and down to single digits by daylight the weather guesser says. I road my four wheeler down to Mailbox and the rain before the ice has softened the ground enough that the tread traction bars on the tires leave tracks through the Ice. and that 15 Min. to mail box and back was enough cold for me. I am going to go make me a cup of Hot chocklet.

Very late birthday greetings to Shirley!

We have had several groups of visitors and one son came here - in-and-out over three weeks time.   Today is sunny and it rained recently so the air is clear.  We did watch the Jeopardy show for the final winner.  It was amazing to watch all these contests.

Hopefully, all of you are well and stay warm.

Well, I did write quite a long post & thought it posted (before noon) and few minutes later I had NO wi-fi or phones, not until less than half an hour ago (full 5 hours, so glad I have antenna TV now). Cox.. (Gloria, you can sympathize). I checked the iPad & discovered no post from Shirley. So came to see if the computer looked any different (okay, I know they are on the same wi-fi).... so I will repeat the part of thanking EVERYONE for the birthday wishes. Yes, it was a good day!

Yesterday my mouse died.... I am hard on them, was one #1 son had brought over when others I had didn't talk to Windows 10. He "fixed me up for overnight" while they were here yesterday and today he brought me 2 to try & see if they fit my hand comfortable. I like the ones that plug into the computer but am using a wireless one he took from the other computer that is attached to the printer. He's tried to convince me to set up so I can use any of these computers & send to that one printer that works... but I don't want to learn anything else new cause I know I can screw things up & it takes help to bail me out!!! I have some old computers that I've kept going because they had the version of Paint Shop Pro that I could work with.... alas, bought 2 newer versions of PSP & can't get them to set up or understand. I never did a lot with it but when Bunny was alive she helped me understand enough to fix old photos and Bubble & Gloria & a couple others gave me tips of how to. I did go through 2 of the "steps" programs & finally gave up because I didn't have enough time to devote to the computer when Cas was so bad.

I got out a couple bags of the ground roast to mix meat spread to send with Andy, his daughter has been sick so I send one tub full to her, (he appreciates that). I also had a couple chicken breasts from KFC bucket I bought & made up some chicken salad with that. I used a Gala apple & put in both walnuts & pecans. I'm not happy with the Miracle Whip these days, too dry with the soy in it!!! Everything is stuffed with soy now, I'm shocked, even things like Blue Bonnot I use for cooking! I have a gr-daughter that has a problem with soy so we've all come to check out contents & no wonder our bread is so cardboardish.... check your labels, bet you didn't know, either!

And now cats are demanding attention. Tom & Callie went out, not raining but damp and above freezing. Tiger had been out so is hunkered down on a furnace vent. I did not walk down to the river tonight, becoming a house cat/person. Can you believe this is another weekend already??? We just had a Sunday! I remember when people used to say, "Time goes faster the older you get".... and feels like we are having back to back Sundays already!

Jenny, I'm always happy to see someone reach those bigger numbers, gives me hope! Betty White has such an ornery  look when she says something like that, love it & her.

Callie, glad your eye/eyes are better. A couple years ago I had a problem with my eyes getting stuck shut & made a comment about it in Photos... so Jack from WVa told me to get the Johnson's baby shampoo & wash them in the mornings & pretty soon they quit having a problem. Not sure the cause but the cure worked! So far our weather is just gloomy but not been too bad, heard some ice on bridges & overpasses early but I've been out to get the dumpster & take care of cats without it being too bitter.

Phyllis, that little girl in your graphic looks so much like one of my gr-grands, we called her "Katy-bug" so much she now calls herself that (with a twinkle in her eye). Thank you.

Joy, not sure I mentioned this to you or if it was in a post that didn't "stick to the site".... but I've switched back to wearing tennis shoes around the house or no shoes .. with some part wool sox by Columbia... and my feet have been happy with me.

I've got to get off here, like someone pulled the cork out of the bottle & she can't shut up!!!  Shirley

I've had one of "those" days!  I think I've accomplished a few things but I'm not sure what!

I have a question for those of you who live alone.  Do you sometimes have days when you wish there was someone there to talk to?  I don't mean someone on the phone or on the other end of a text message or on the computer.  I mean someone THERE who will answer when you talk to them. Most of the time I'm comfortable with my own thoughts and feelings but once in a while, I just wish someone would answer!  Am I strange?  Or is this more or less normal?

I'm off to Dreamland now and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

JaneS you are Normal. It is alright if you ask your self a question but just do not ask it and then answer it your self, you need a second opinion
get your self a room mate. male or female, dose not have to be bed partner. you surely Have more than one bed and or bed room. and one that would help with utility's and chores. one that has a adult attitude. you will be in  your second childhood soon enough if not already. Have a great day. others can join in also you can have a bed partner of opicet sex just cuddle with on cold nights, and not try to make more children.

had to rest after my w/c outing and the bad weather has a bad influence on my joints and bones :(
It will take 6 to 8 weeks for me to get that  new wheelchair.

Yes Me is ET. I thought every one knew. It's a shortening of my real name. Also I often feel like E.T. here in Israel because it is so different from my birth country. I think it is always difficult to transplant oneself to a different place and adapt when one is already grown up.

Good morning everyone..

No new snow as of yet but Newfoundland sure got it..

Will carry on with the cleaning today, little by little it will get done. Have no idea of why I kept some things but do know where they are going.

Picked up a good deal on chicken yesterday and made Cordon Bleu with it for supper last night. We split one between us and will have the other one today.

Bubble ,happy that you're feeling better...outings although, fun can also take the starch out of you.

Shirley, yes, time does seem to go faster. I hope that is the answer and not that I am getting slower..but that too could be the answer. Seems I just do laundry and soon enough doing it again.

Well since I hugged the pillow again I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Before I forget:  Thanks, Amy, for the link to the Instant Pot cleaning tip you posted.  I was browsing on through the site and printed out a recipe for Brownies that sounds so good to me.  Think that is what we need on this cold, dreary, and supposed-to-be-rainy day.  Anything chocolate is bound to make the day better, isn't it?

I haven't been using the IP much lately.  I've been taking the easier way out and using a lot of "all-ready cooked and just need to be heated" things out of the freezer.  And I used to love to cook!    :'(   The times they are a'changin'.

Breakfast is calling and, maybe, a second cup of coffee.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here and we're getting the predicted snow.  It's been coming down for about an hour now and shows no signs of stopping!  I think we're in for it this time.  It's already all white out there!

Thanks, Callie.  You make me feel better about wishing for people with real voices to answer.  And you're right about who starts the conversation, too.

I'm thinking I might follow Mickie's example and spend the day eating and sleeping.  She does it so well that I could take lessons.

I wish you all a lovely and safe day!

Good Saturday Morning from
the icy cold
rocky coast of Mane.

from JaneS:

I have a question for those
of you who live alone.
Do you sometimes have days
when you wish there was someone
there to talk to?

Now that you have stopped working
you have to decide how
you are going to live without
going to a job....
All of a sudden
you have all this time  to
fill in....  with no one to
talk to ..

I stopped working many
years ago  and since then have
arranged my life around only
aving me, myself and I to
talk to most of the day.

I have a gal friend that I talk
to on the phone.
We have known each other for
years so it is easy
to share my thoughts with her.
We also share the
same views politically....
which makes staying up to
date with the news easier....

You are moving from one life
style to another so you need
to adjust and and find a new
satisfying way to do things.

Asking for suggestions is a
good idea,
and I hope that others will
come up with some
ideas that help you adjust
to your new life style.

Perhaps volunteering a day or
two a week for a few hours with
people that you can
talk to might help.

I am sure that others can
come up with
some good ideas also...

Enjoy and don't give up
trying to find satisfaction
in your new life style.

Sandy

Sandy, your suggestion about volunteering is a good one.  I have been retired 33 years now and for many of those years I did volunteer - once a week at a food pantry and once a week at church.  Neither job was strenuous and there were people to talk to and with.  Then I was in DAR so had a meeting once a month, had lunch with retiree friends once a month.  Another thing, I was on the Condo Board.  Of course, I drove in those days which I do not do now.  I still am in DAR but I don't go to the meetings.  The only thing I do now of those things listed is have lunch with my retiree friends and we only do that in good weather months.  They're all older too!

So, there, Jane, is a good suggestion - volunteer.

Jane, will keep this short but couldn't resist telling you that "in my head" the cats talk to me as did every other critter I took care of over the years (all those birds, too). Since my husband wanted me at home I had to be my own best friend before kids, while kids were growing up & in school & when they left home. So it's been a long time since I got to work outside the house with REAL people to talk to. I have a radio or TV on almost all the time, "for background noise", and every time the pet (bird, dog, cat) dies, another finds a way into my life. Do you think Mickey needs a little friend that would keep you super busy for this transition? Only advice I can offer.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 15, 2020
Post by: Mary Ann on January 18, 2020, 11:29:51 AM
Shirley, I talk to Kendrick as if he knows what I'm saying - and sometimes I think he does!  I also talk to myself but never think of a good answer to a question, so I don't answer back.  Tom may live here and others think I have his company, but he works in the family room and I do not bother him unless it is necessary.  Otherwise, Tom is usually gone outside, after all, he does have a life of his own.  The only time I get to talk to or with Tom is when we go to lunch once a week and we don't talk that much then.

Good morning everyone, caught up on sleep and feel awake this morning, woke late and just having my coffee. Latest forecast is for a possible 5 inches of snow followed by rain starting this afternoon. Right now it is 13 and looks like the wind is calm at last. The wind we had the last week makes me wonder how SHIRLEY can take living with wind all the time.

AMY  I was so tempted to go out yesterday but for me it was too cold and too windy, Have been inside all week and am getting cabin fever. The sun looked so  tempting but I now get cold too fast. Like I say-I have no more blubber to hold the heat in. I am just a bag of bones. My parents lived in Canada at one  time and I can remember them talking about  how cold it got.

PHYLLIS  wonderful  to see one of your creations here for Shirley. At times I wish I could get back into PSP, do you miss it?

LLOYD  these "golden years" we hear about when young are not nice years we we get to that age.

JOY  my fridge needs a cleaning, maybe I can get one of the CNA's I have been getting will have the energy to do it.

CALLIE  between the rain and  the cold after it the one sunny day we had was too cold and windy for me to get out. Glad your eye is getting better.

JENNY  I remember watching Betty White on TV many years ago when my kids were still very young.

LLOYD  glad when I go r my mail it  is in a  room here on the ground floor.

BUBBLE  sure takes a long time to get your new wheelchair. I hope it works much better than your old one. I knew you were ET but did not say anything.I thought it best if everyone figured it out themselves. Like you I know what weaher does to the bones, not nice either. We have had more rain than snow sofar this winter.

PHYLLIS  I liked cooking and baking but can do neither anymore. When I was working I cooked on weekends and froze meals for during the week.

JANE  making a phone call and having to talk to a machine is disgusting. Since Walgreen too over the pharmacy I get meds from it is all machines and I hate it.

My son has been here and left already. He even stopped at a DD and brought me 2 lemon filled donuts. Ohh so yummy.

Have a good day.

Good Morning from Sunny Central Oklahoma,

Have to smile at the comments from all around the world about lack of face-to-face conversation.  Aren't we lucky to have this opportunity to visit with each other?

As an only child with a husband whose work kept him busy many evenings,  I have long been used to spending time alone (and talking to myself).  I've always participated in my own group activities   After my husband died 27 years ago, I continued this, added some volunteer work and have had an active social life with individual friends.  I still take part in a few group activities. but my ability to "get out and go" is now limited and I'm discovering that most of the friends who are still active  seem to be pulling away from personal contact.
Fortunately,  I enjoy being at home and am good at keeping myself busy - just not with the same things they do.     C'est la Vie.

Project du Jour is cleaning out and shredding some old files.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day

Amen Callie. ..isn't that the way though ?

The snow has started here and I can't help but wonder how Jane is doing. She is in the path of this weather also. I think we will just wait it out as it is to continue until tomorrow.. very fine snow, not accumulating fast.

Lost  the urge to purge  :2funny:  so I am sewing :)

As for noise, conversation I may put a radio/cd on when I am alone.....but not often as the dogs keep me company and Peepers will always yell when I go by her cage ..

Back sewing..

We're getting ready for a birthday party for Annie/Cate this afternoon.  Tom got a new grill and was hoping to grill out on the front lawn - which was clear yesterday.  However, overnight we were gifted with a few inches of white stuff so he changed the menu to chili.  I am not fond of chili, but then, it is not my birthday.

It seems we've all had our sessions with being alone, haven't we?  And everyone had coped.  At this time of my life, and Tom is gone often, I am thankful when he is in for the night; I can sleep OK at night whether alone or with Tom downstairs, but I am much happier when he is home for the night.

Tom just came in with Annie, so I'd better close up shop.

I think most of you misunderstood my question.  I am NOT lonely living alone and I still have a life with my friends and family and I still do some volunteer work at my church.  What I was asking was "Do you ever think of something and wish there was someone sitting over there in that chair to discuss it with"?  I had no reference to "loneliness".  I came to grips with living alone 35 or so years ago and I haven't given it another thought since.  All I crave is someone to talk to and not all the time, just sometimes.  I think Callie got it right with her answer and she does lots of things on her own but she understood the question!

About the weather...It started snowing about 9 this morning and it's still coming down.  The plow has been down our street once before noon and I think they spread salt.  I was out walking with Mickie and ran into a new neighbor for the third time since she moved in last weekend.  She was also walking her dog and the dogs sniffed and snuffed and checked each other out and decided they were Ok, while I think she said her name is Akiva and I chatted.  She came here to teach at Bucknell University and is from somewhere in Europe.  I'll have to check that out.  But she's very nice and her dog is a rescue dog.  I think we might run into one another often when we walk the doggies.  So she satisfied my need for someone to talk to today!

I hope you are all having a good day and I want to thank you for caring enough about me to share your thoughts.  You are all good friends!

Tom & Callie came in a little while ago but Tiger is missing so when I opened to door to call her, the other 2 went back out.  They haven't had their "midnight snack", which is half a can of Friskie's pate'..... so as soon as they all 3 show up I will feed & go take my Sat night shower & wash hair. I am sleepy tonight & no good reason, had a nap that brought sleep time to OVER 9 hours last night & today, that is unheard of for me & my Fitbit!

In case I don't get back, sweet dreams and God Bless.

Just stopping by and so glad that Annie's party turned out good,  Mary Ann, that was great that you got to play the piano with the little girls. I bet they loved that.  Happy that you made it up and down the steps with no problems. Going down to the piano must have been a nice change of scenery for you.

I like chili once in a great while, as long as it isn't real spicy. The corn bread goes good with chili.  I am sure Dot's cake was good.

I had left over Dinty Moore"s Beef Stew with a salad. For some reason, my appetite seems to be coming back. I feel more like eating and cooking. Tomorrow I am going to fix some chicken from the freezer along with some broccoli and will add some cream of celery soup (no chicken) to make a sauce and then add some dumplings to it. I haven't fixed much of any kind of dinners for a long time. That will make a meals for a couple times.

I want to go and get myself ready for bed,. but will watch the new Hallmark movie.  Something in Iceland with the Northern Lights.  I really enjoy those movies. Some more than others, but all usually are a nice happy story.

Hope everyone has a good evening. Our snow turned into "nothing" but I do think there was a lot of freezing rain later in the day. They are saying the roads are very icy. I hope all of my family got home ok.

My great-niece, Catherine Anne, whom I call Annie but is called Cate otherwise, turned 24 Thursday so we had a family party this afternoon.  Annie is Tom's daughter.  At one time we were going to have steaks or kabobs which Tom would have grilled on our front lawn.  Since we had a few inches of the white stuff overnight, Tom and Annie decided on chili and corn bread.  I am not fond of chili although I do eat it when Tom gets the two-for-one at Wendy's on Tuesdays.  And he put a can of corn in the corn bread and I am not fond of corn, either.  I said I was glad it was not my birthday.  Annie's brother and family came and his daughters are the twins born nearly three years ago.  I had heard that Jo liked the piano so I took the girls down to our old piano and they did good.  Ellie pounded more than Jo so I hope the girls can learn to play some day.  Dot made a chocolate cake from a mix and we ate well.

Joy, I forgot about Dinty Moore beef stew & used to love it. First time I ever opened a can was when the boys & I went camping in CO without "Dad". They loved it & so did I, especially with a slice of bread, butter & grape jam!  That will be on my shopping list tomorrow. Poor Cas was never a happy camper and when he was along I fixed all his favorites for every meal. With just the boys, we ate when we were hungry.

Mary Ann, these cats understand quite a few words or expressions, mainly concerning food and down to the river, do you want to go outside? and NO! They all know their names & turn when I call them by name. They are certainly more independent than a dog, though, and can ignore when they aren't interested!

I had too much sleep yesterday so knew I'd be up early-early this morning. Tom went outside but Callie is hiding out on a furnace vent across the room from me. She goes out during the day when Tom is afraid someone will see him. I guess I will have to put them all in the RV one of these NICE days and see how Callie acts. As far as I know, she has never been in a car. She got in the RV one day a few years ago, and promptly "marked" the electric heater as hers... I yelled at her & she has never gotten in again. That heater didn't go back in for a long time, had to make sure it didn't smell when turned on! Tiger is in the basement, wanted to go down last night so I opened the door for her, she doesn't jump over like Tom. He hops over either direction & I am afraid he will break a leg, but no way to stop him. I did put a no skid carpet over the top of the door so he can get a grip on that.

I hard boiled some eggs for the ground meat spread & since I boiled extras, sounds like a good snack for right now. Add a couple pieces of toast & jelly and cup of coffee and I could go back to sleep for hours, but can't. I wouldn't wake up in time to meet all my kids at church & enjoy breakfast at McDonald's with them.

Cold but dry here, and the wind has a real bite to it. I was surprised yesterday when inspecting the plants, that my rose bush on the north side of the house has new buds & even one sprout with a leaf! I planted that bush when we first bought the house 31 years ago. It has frozen back, snapped off at the ground one year (thanks to KS winds) and in spite my my pitiful care, still manages to bloom those gorgeous Peace colors every year.

AMY, I do envy you the snow, we haven't seen a decent snow since the year I had heart surgery & my 3 kids were here to play with the snow blower & cleaned off the driveway. That will be 7 years in a couple weeks. We had one snow a few years ago, enough to slide down the hill on the Sno-Nut. Was not much because every slide down had to be on a different path, it dragged the snow off with each trip down. Now, that's fun! The Sno-Nut must 50 years old, think I bought it in the late '60s or '70s. The kids had a big sled they used, we don't get snow often enough around here and when we do, it's a blizzard with drifts so deep you can get lost in... and no hills except a man made on each side of town! Ah, well, we have to grow up someday, right?

Hope everyone has a nice day, whatever the weather, enjoy! I do like the different seasons, when you have had enough of one it changes so we can gripe about the next. Always too hot or too cold and allergys spring & fall!

Good morning everyone..

We must have 8 -10 inches of snow to deal with this morning...and it is still coming down!! For what I can see .it is so pretty and would imagine (too dark now) the trees are all dressed in white satin.

Better get a move on  as it will take a while to get it all cleaned up.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, well we got snow, a couple of inches and then it rained during the night. It is 34 and the parking lot is wet.  Hope there is no ice out there. I watched some cars going by and they seemed to be going a normal speed.

JANE  when I first retired for a month or more all I did was sleep. I was worn out. It didn't bother me to have no one to talk to all day. I enjoyed the peace and quiet. My son would come upstairs every day when he came home from work so had him to talk with for awhile every day. I started watching more TV in the evenings, finally got to watch ER that some at work talked about every week. I was in bed every night at 9 so never watched it before.

BUBBLE  the only one I have now on Skype is my daughter and we talk at least an hour every day. I get some CNA's who love to talk and at times I feel like  telling them  to shut up. If I wan t t o  tlk wi th o thers all I have  to do is go down to the lobby. There is always someone there. Then I always have a book I am reading.

CALLIE  like you I do not mind being alone, always find something to do and I am limited on what I can do anymore.

SHIRLEY  hope all your fur babies came in so you could get ready for shower and sleep.

JOY  wish my appetite would come back. I could go all day without eating and not feel the least bit hungry. I have to make myself eat because I cannot afford to lose anymore weight.

AMY  hope your snow stayed light and fluffy. Makes it easier to clean up.

SHIRLEY  last time I was on a flying saucer was nore than 40 years ago. had fun with my 3 going down our driveway. Just glad it did not go right into the street.

AMY  fresh snow is beautiful on the trees and before anyone walks on it or you have to shovel it.

LLOYD  hope you slept good last night abd have a good day today.

ROLEY  it is always good to see you.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The snow stopped and the snowblower was working when Mickie and I went out this morning.  My neighbor across the street had my driveway pretty well cleaned off when Mickie and I went out this morning!  He's a good guy!

After church this morning, I'm going over to my daughter's house for brunch and TV.  My grandson-in-law who is working on his doctorate at the University in Houston, TX is delivering the sermon this morning at their church.  And my daughter has figured out how to stream the service to her TV.  We're all going to listen to him preach.  His aim, when he began to study for his DRs. degree was to become a college professor.  Circumstances and happenings in the meantime have given him leaning toward joining the ministry.  I think he would be a good one and I think Natalie is an asset toward that aim.  They definitely work as a well coordinated team!  I'm really eager t hear his sermon!

AMY, you must have gotten a LOT more snow than we did.  I don't wish you any bad luck but I am thankful that ours wasn't as bad as the predictions.  It was beautiful to see yesterday but it gave Mickie some problems.  She didn't mind weeweeing anywhere in it but she couldn't find any grass to do her job.  She gave up that search this morning and we're good for a while.

I'm ready for my second cup of coffee and it's just about time for the boinger so.....

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And come back in here and tell us all about it!

No snow here...just some moderate rain.  Can't say I'm sorry.

Jane, I knew what you meant about wanting to share an occasional thought with someone.  I've not been a recluse but I've always been pretty good at finding ways to entertain myself from childhood on to now.  And volunteering is always a good way to have contact with other "real" people.  When we moved to N. Carolina I knew nothing about the area or the people so one of the first things I did was to volunteer at the local library.  Having been on a library staff in N.Y. for many years, it was work I knew and enjoyed and I knew it would be a good way to get to know the new community and the local people.  It was a great experience and I made many friends without the strain of going to WORK every day.

I made the Instant Pot brownies yesterday.  That recipe is a keeper, Amy.  Really good.

Snow is all cleaned up for now, even the trails out back are done. New snow is so pristine and making the first mark/footprint in it is a wonderful feeling.

Roley, love to see you in here, please come in more often and say hello.

Gloria, snow was easy to move, we didn't get the rain that makes it horrible to work with. Where I lived on the farm there was no one about, didn't see anyone unless they made a wrong turn....my sister couldn't understand how I could do it. I loved it and with all the critters about was never alone. Entertainment was sitting on the fence rail watching either, calves, lambs or colts play...doesn't get any better than that!

Jane, we did get a lot but not as much as Newfoundland got and they have another snack of snow on the way!

Shirley, Fitbit says I have  done 5280 steps so far this morning.

Phyliss, thank you, will check the brownie recipe out. You are right chocolate makes any day better.

Lloyd, that is the same type of needle I would use on the new born lambs I didn't want to use the larger ones on such a tiny baby..

Better get ready to take Kyle out for coffee with our friends.

Take care everyone.

It is snowing here but it doesn't look too bad.  I see traffic on the main road just south of us and it is going as usual.  I don't know where Dot got her information, but she called to tell me there would be no church today; she was happy because she is leery of driving in the snow.  I have not seen our church listed on TV with the closed churches and I did not see Tom's church listed so I know he'll go soon.

When we were young, we lived next to an open field and in the middle was a hill with grapevines.  In the winter we'd take our sleds or barrel-type skis and go down between the rows of vines and that was our fun.  That field was a source of fun for us all year round.  At one time, that field was a farm and there was a row of pine trees in it and we'd climb them in the summer, getting sap on us and our clothes.  Even our driveway sloped, so we could slide down there, but it did go to the road.  We had little traffic in those days and I don't live there now, but traffic has increased a lot on the street.

I haven't been up long enough for anything to have happened - BBL.

It's been almost 13 hours since anyone posted in here.  I hope it's because you are all having such a good day with friends and family that you just plain didn't have time to come by the Soda Shoppe!

As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed my GSIL, sermon this morning and the service had prayers a lot like those in my own church.  We all agreed that we are proud to call him "FAMILY" and that we all consider him a "KEEPER".  We gave him our best when we gave him Natalie but she got his family's best when we got him!

Now I'm off to bed and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND!

I think I have a post missing.....I know I posted Friday evening telling about Dr. Dave dropping Grandson Luke off to spend a couple of days with us while he and Matt went to Vail to ski!  They were on the road for a few hours and the traffic was going nowhere, so they turned around and came back home.  They were disappointed, but Dave was pleased that he could get a lot of things done at home.  Kate and Michele were away all weekend at a dance competition for Kate.  Now the following words will make more sense.

We were away most of the afternoon and evening yesterday.  Dave had quite a few tasks to accomplish so he needed some help and Bob was more than happy to do it.  They moved the family room furniture down stairs to the new TV room and then hung the huge new TV.  Dave ordered the Mc Gregor vs The Cowboy fight and we watched it on the new TV.  I felt like I was right there ring side. I do not care one bit about boxing or what ever they call this fighting now.....I am a lover NOT a fighter❣️

We ended up not going to Granddaughter Kate's dance competition.  It was available on line and on the TV on YouTube, so we enjoyed it off and on all weekend long.  I worried about Michele as they have very long days there.  Yesterday they were up at 5:30 AM as Kate had to be dressed and made up to Dane by 8AM, and then they did not get back to their hotel room until after 11 PM.  Much too much for Michele.  This is the dance competition that they were at last year when Michele had the scare with numbness on her total left side and was rushed to the hospital and the brain tumors were discovered. 😩

JEAN, over in Norm's Bait and Tackle asked about my Dad, so thought I would share my answer to her in here.  Dads arm has healed quite well and the doctor is happy with it.   He has a home care nurse that comes to see him twice a week, but now she is done.  When Dave and Family visited Dad a couple of weeks back they thought he is doing very well mentally but Diane, his live in lady friend says he is in full blown Alzheimer's.  He seems good when I talk to him everyday, but has shown some short term memory loss at times.

AMY, we saw all the snow that Newfoundland got....yikes!   I Only remember a big big snow lake that one time in 1956 when we lived in Durango Colorado....
Wow, 5280 steps is one mile!  I figure you do that or more EVERY day😁🥵

JANE, how special the sermon must have been for you today.  So glad you enjoyed it. I wish your grandson-in-law the best.

We are still watching the 49ers beating the Packers and I sure do not want to loose this post, so think I will say goodnight!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good morning everyone..

Tad chilly this morning temp is -18 ° F but it has and likely will get worse. edited to say it is now - 22° F

Finished one quilt and started another but this one is what they call a cheater quilt and will be done today I hope.

Mary Ann,crafters like to get their hands on the grape vines..I just like to get my hands on the wild grapes. Makes the best jam and juice!

Jenny, that was a long day for Michele but I bet she enjoyed every moment.
I am more than happy to not get snow like that....way too much for me but those folks are used to it. The mile was before 9 am......

Jane, what a special young man your GSIL is. I agree they both picked a good one..

Joy, hope your feet are getting better.

Phyliss I did pass the recipe on for others to enjoy.

Slept in again so I had better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, a brr morning again at 14, looks like it will be sunny though. another day for me to stay inside. I cannot bundle up enough to be warm when it is that cold. I cannot move fast even with my rollator and wearing too many layers slows me down more. I do love my down jacket and vest but I still shiver.

JANE  hope you got to see the sermon yesterday. Poor Mickie yesterday. I remember when my son had the part Chuhuahua he had to shovel paths for him in the snow. We ended with 3 inches of snow and after the sun yesterday all that is left is on the grass and some places on the roof. I would come back later to tell you about my interesting day but nothing happens around here.

PHYLLIS  like you I was good at entertaining myself, mostly with a book or jigsaw puzzle. Still enjoy both. I do the puzzles on the computer now and I always have a book with me. Glad we have the library down stairs. I have never been bored.

LLOYD  did you know if you pinch the skin and put the needle there it doesn't hurt? A doctor I had years ago did that and it was better than sticking the needle straight in.

AMY  I miss watching the birds. There we re a couple of feeders in front of the building and the witch made them take them down, said it made a mess. Never saw any droppings but she said it was messy. In back of the building we used to see deer and turkeys but with the trees all cut down now they have gone, too.

MARY ANN  I was surprised yesterday morning to see so many churches cancelling. I don't remember ever seeing that before. We had much more snow than what we got and they never cancelled.

JANE  glad you approve of your GSIL and will keep him in the family.

JENNY  I don't know how Michele does all she does with all she has been going through. God bless her. I hope Kate did well in the competition.

AMY  af ter the blizzard we had in 1978 I never was to see comething like it again.

Good Morning everyone. AMY good morning you seam to be the first one in today again. that is OK with me but I still enjoy seeing you when i get in any time. I take too many Naps during the day and Have a hard time getting to sleep in bed at night. last night I took two melatonin pills and still took a while to get to sleep but when I did it was a good sleep I feel pretty good this Morning. temp. 13º currently and calling for a high of 18º here today. I would bet that you and you and your husband sleep with good warm P J"S on and still sleep close together to stay warm. Back in the days when my friend and i were hauling horses to ginville CA. I slept with all my clothes on + lot of covers on and still chilly in the truck sleeper. temp. was 50º below when we stopped to eat we left the truck running with the throttle puled out to run at a high rpm, so it would keep running and with a curton over the radiator restricting the air flow through it, glad you all are as tough as you are if we make up there to see you all will be in summer when temp. is warmer. I bet when you all dance it is a close dance. Have a good day'

Finished the quilt and now starting on a skateboard quilt, must admit I really enjoy doing those. One for boys and one for girls as I am sure some girls will ride skateboards. I have been given some real funky fabric  and it should be perfect for this!

Still no Jane? :(

Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Evening!  Cathy picked me up this morning and took me to get my new phone programmed and the "stuff" from the old one moved over to the new one.  It took us most of the morning and then we stopped for pizza on the way home.

When I got home, I called the car service place again because they told me I had a small gas leak that would need to be addressed.  I decided that I would address it before it began to leak big time. So now my car is back in the shop.

And that's what I've been doing with my day today.  When I got back from dropping my car off, I was tired so I took Mickie for a walk and then we took a nap together.  When I woke up it was time to make dinner and in the off times, I've been trying to get used to the new phone.  I'm not sure I like it.  It talks much more softly than my old one.  I told my daughter that I think these new ones are meant to be plastered to the end of you fingers and if you leave them in the bedroom and go in the kitchen, they're worthess.  I give myself about 10 days to lose it completely!

Now, what shall we do?

Sleep was like a Dalmatian dog last night...spotty but I did get some.
Need to run into town this morning and pick up a part. Home to work about the house..should really get back to purging but will see.

Jane, happy to read all is well and you had a grand time out with Cathy!! May take a bit to get used to the new phone but you will... Remember when cars were so simple to use, now they have all these gadgets on them? High beams were on the floor and now good luck at finding them.....all depends on the make of vehicle.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Hopefully, this will be the rest of my message but I wanted to make sure everyone knows it's my computer that has gone crazy and not me!  Actually, I did that many years ago.

Anyway, the weather is also cold here...16º right now and only expected to reach a high of 30 today.  I will be going out later but my friend is doing the driving and since the sun is shining it doesn't seem as cold.

I went to bed really late last nigh (our should I say EARLY this morning) and I slept through the alarm and got up when the phone rang around 8 a.m.  Mickie got her pill immediately and then we took a walk and now we're waiting for breakfast.

PHYLLIS, so glad you checked in!  We miss those who don't!  Now for the rest of them!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with us.  Even if you're only doing "nothing" that takes effort! Just ask me!  I'm an expert at doing nothing!

Jane, your temps match ours - brrr.

You can't be an expert at doing nothing because you haven't been retired long enough.  I do have "nothing" down pat but I've been retired over 33 years and do very little.  I guess that's why we have Tom's friend, Robin, clean.  Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to find anything.  She comes today.

Good morning everyone, woke early, still dark, rolled over and went back to sleep, woke almost 9. Had a chuckle, the one in charge of the schedules for the CNA's called yesterday and asked if she could send someone today  from 8 to 10 and I told her  no way. I have told her that so many times she still doesn't understand it.  17 and no wind chill this morning but still cold and the sun in shining. Last weather report I heard said it would be dry and sunny till the week end when we will have rain or snow. Will have to wait and see how right/wrong they are.

Since I woke late I better get my breakfast and get dressed before 11:30 when my CNA gets here. At least that was the original time for today. Will see.

Have a good day.

A good Tuesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

It is dreary out today.....no sunshine makes me dreary too!  Not much to say either.

Yesterday Kurt and friends came down from Vail after their nice ski weekend .  Bob took the light rail to the airport to meet them and drove Kurt's car back home here.  Kurt and Family will be here over Presidents' Day from a Boston and we will repeat this process of getting the car to them.

Bob has been very dizzy when getting up the past couple of days, so I have been a bit worried about him....unfortunately he even fell yesterday morning after getting up and turning too quickly.  He is being more careful now making sure he moves slowly especially when getting up.  I did not want him to drive but he is fine unless he is getting up and moving too quickly.  He did just have a bout with a head cold and I feel this might be associated to his ears, but we will not mess around with it if it continues.

JANE, I am sorry to read your car needed more attention...I do hope they can take care of this problem with out breaking the bank. Also not good to read your computer is acting up.  Gurr. How frustrating. Happy to read you enjoyed your time with Cathy.

I hope you all have a good day.

Jenny

PHYLLIS, nice to see your post....that is all we need, just a check in to let us all know you are doing OK......NOW I just need to make sure I do the same!

Poof goes another day! Got a lot of little things done today,we were putting appointments on the calendar and found out we had two on back to back days......a phone call took care of that and they are now on one. Cut out parts of the skateboard quilt and will do that maybe on Thur. Our temps are to warm up on the weekend and we may get more snow..oh well...better now than in May!

Jane,we are missing Joy, and Lloyd......both are MIA and hope they are alright and  Shirley is also MIA??

Jenny, please get Bob checked out....may be nothing but it may be something that needs to be looked at. I know if Kyle gets up too quick he will be dizzy but he is sitting on the side of the bed for a bit before he gets up.

I see the pup has gone to bed.too early for me but I am more than ready for bed.

Blue Jays, Juncos, sparrows and dove have been vacuuming up the seeds, in fact I have been feeding them twice a day. I think they need the food in this cold weather.

Not sure when I checked in, I always go on & on when I do. :-[  We are being told to expect rain turning to snow overnight so whatever will be, will be. I do have an appointment with cardio Dr tomorrow for the okay to do cataracts... and have questions for him so will make the appointment unless we are totally iced in. Not until 11:30 so should have streets cleared by then, only problem it is on opposite side of town & need to take the bypass around town & that's where the ice is, on overpasses. I ask for mid-day appointments to stay out of rush hour, but also during winter expect streets at their best. Big deal, highlight of the week, huh?  ;)

Been really cold here & enough wind to go through NORMAL clothes to make the knees & ankles hurt, tomorrow will be an UGGS day so ankles won't notice. Have warm enough coats & hoods to sure don't enjoy the winter like we used to, right, Gloria? I refuse to wear long johns to the Doctor's office, never know how long we have to wait & can picture me stripping down because the offices are so hot.  :2funny:

Sorry Bob is having trouble, Jenny, you are probably right about the cold causing, but falling can bring up a whole new set of problems. Driving may be scary if he has to turn his head too fast in traffic, be careful!

Sorry about the car, Jane, always something, isn't it?  Glad you have a mechanic you can trust. I know it took my daughter a good year before she "found her groove" after being retired. Cas just played golf all the time because his buddies retired before him, but since he had open heart surgery the week he retired, it took him 6 weeks before he got out on the golf course. The doctor allowed him to drive at 4 weeks but not a full swing with golf club. I retired when Cas died because nobody around to care what day the laundry gets done or house cleaned!

Lloyd, like you, I've been napping too much in day time so not sleeping as sound at night. Remember when our babies did that and we knew what to do!

Amy, I have 3 or 4 bags of "stuffing" for quilts that I bought at a sale long ago for my mother-in-law about the same time she said she wasn't going to quilt anymore. Wish you were closer, I'd give it to you. Think I will just pack it up with some boots & coats to take to one of the thrift stores. I would rather give the coats & boots to people that would use them after all the news about how much goes to landfill that we donate. Heck, I'll use some of those nice knits shirts for dust rags (that shrunk up with first washing)... None of my family is smaller than I am so no "passing down" around here. I hate to see anything wasted.

Hi to all.... haven't had my supper, cats were fed & are outside. Somehow Callie had the run of the house all afternoon, I thought she was outside but must have been hiding. She came strolling down the hall to the bedrooms & when I yelled at her & followed her back to HER part of the house, I discovered the basement door open so I'm sure she checked it all out. HOpe she noticed a litter box at the bottom of the steps. You may hear be yelling from one coast to the other if she's been bad! The basement is a wreck right now but doesn't need to be a SMELLY wreck!  Think I will eat before checking it out. I may be spending the night doing clean up.

Just a note for those of you with a touch of vertigo.  I get it from time to time and the last one my dr. sent me to a specialist.  After some testing and some xrays she determined that mine was caused by the movement of what looked on the picture like a lot of little stones.  Sometimes when I sleep on one side those little stones get out of place.  She suggested that when I'm getting up, I turn completely on the other side of my head and give them a chance to get back where they belong.  It works for me and sometimes, as I'm rolling to the other side, I can feel the vertigo starting.  Maybe you could note which side your head is on when the dizzies start and make sure you move it to the other side before you try getting up?  Just a suggestion but it can't hurt.

I'm off to Dreamland!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, a whole 10 this morning, good, might finally start killing all the germs in the air. Another day for me to stay inside. Getting another new CNA and this one is supposed to be here every day. From what the woman from the office said she is young. I told her that most young ones I have had do not want to work and if this one is like that she will hear from me. I really am getting bad with telling her about some she has been sending me. Oh well maybe I am too fussy. Maybe it is because I cannot do much.

JENNY  sorry about Bob falling, bad enough getting dizzy. He will have to start turning slow. Falling is the only thing I really worry about.

AMY  one year we had 8 inches of snow in May. All the trees and bushes were leafed out and it was a heavy wet snow so a lot of trees and limbs down and electric out. I think it was in the early 1970's.

SHIRLEY  I sure am not enjoying this winter. If I go out I make sure I have my "geemagotchees" on, then with wool socks my ankles stay warm. Doctor's offices here are always cold and I make sure I dress warm if I have a winter appointment. I try making them from late March till mid November.

LLOYD  you are the one who should be taking it easy. No more working on big machines anymore.

JANE  last night I think I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Slept good and woke early. Good, have time to shower before the new CNA gets here.

Have a good day.

Good morning everyone..
We are off to the city today. Kyle has an appointment with the RA Dr at the hospital via internet/Skype??? Then we are off to Costco to pick up things for us and our neighbour. I know the van will be full as we need 3 bags of birds seed and that takes up room.On the way home will stop at the Vets and pick up dog food for Rex. That should do it for the day, doubt if anything will be done at home.

Shirley, good luck at the cardio Dr today. Hope all your questions get answered. What about taking the clothes to a homeless shelter or maybe your church send clothes to poor countries? I don't blame you for not wanting them to end up in
the landfill.

Gloria, hope you got a good CNA...

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.
Jane, another thing I do for vertigo is to put my head down on my chest, then over to the right side, then back ,then over to the left side. Now this is ok but when your neck is sore tis not easy to do. Mine sounds like Rice Crispies....snap crackle pop!!

Lloyd, you're fine. We do miss your posts when you don't pop in so like Phyliss pop is just to say hi.

Good morning.

Amy, I am still around. Thanks for thinking about me.

I have had a few busy days.  Several doctor visits, a funeral, and not feeling real good for a few days.

I do feel better and guess I am almost back to normal, whatever that is. LOL

Sorry to hear that several have had some health issues.  Hope they all clear up quickly.

It is kind of early for anything interesting to happen.  I have had my breakfast, taken sine of my meds and still have my tea to drink.  I don't have anything special to do until Feb. 6, when I see my primary doctor. I only see her twice a year, unless I have some problem, and she does write most of my Rx's.

It is a pretty sunny, calm morning.  Supposed to warm up a little bit during the next few days.  It sure has been cold.  I am one who does not like a heavy coat, so the couple times I have had to go out,  I just put on some extra layers and found a nice warm scarf that I had forgotten I had.  At least, most of the time, I am only out long enough to get into the car and then get out when I get where I am going.  It seems to work ok.

Our area has been lucky, as we have not had much snow, but it sure has been cold.  I am so ready for spring.  I did notice the other day, that it was still light out at 5:15 so, the days are getting longer.

I hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy

Good Morning Everyfriend!  All that's happening here today is laundry.  The first load just finished and is ready for the dryer.  I don't have anywhere I need to go today except down the street with Mickie.  She's already told me it's past time for her walk so the clothes will go in the dryer and we'll brave the cold and take our morning stroll.  And that's my agenda for the day.

The car is back and it didn't cost a fortune and Bucky agreed to accept payment in two stages so that helps the budget.

The movie that my friend and I saw yesterday was the remake of Dr. Doolittle.  It was good but LOUD!  Instead of the musical version of the original, we had the animals blasting their way through water and walls to help the Dr.  I prefer the music!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And stop by to share it with all of us!

Jane, I have watched the trailer for that movie, and I really would like to see it. I have a friend who saw it and she thought it was wonderful.. But, if and when I get to go, I will be aware of the sound part.

It is still sunny, but really cold.  I just finished my lunch and need to clean up a few dishes.  I guess I will watch the Hallmark Channel as all the other stations will be full of all that mess from Washington .

Or I will read.  Or, maybe take a nap.  When you live by yourself, you are not responsible for anybody else, so you can do what you want.

Have a good afternoon.

Long day and I can imagine we will be in bed before the chickens roost!! Not fond of driving in the dark but it does have its merits.....like watching dawn awake and stretching to push the night away. Just beautiful to see. This new way of talking to a Dr over the internet is ok but I like a hands on approach....worked out that everything is alright and one more visit and then Kyle will go to his GP.
Went to Costco and filled the van!! Also stalked up on 3 bags of bird seed so the birds  will be happy.

Roads were good and no critter crossing either  so all in all a great day.

Joy, I would opt out for the nap :)

Jane ,glad your car is back and isn't it nice to have such a wonderful person to deal with....keeper for sure.

Better tidy up the kitchen.

AMY, I watched this person grow up!  He was in my son's class and they were friends all through school.  Besides that, he's following in his father's footsteps.  He literally  grew up in the car repair and rental business.  He has also added a used car sales side to the business.  And on top of that, he's a nice young man!  He doesn't treat me any differently now than he did when I was his friend's mom... with respect and thoughtfulness.  And I'm sure he treats all his customers the same way.  I've sent him many customers over the years, because he's good at his job, he hires good people to work for him and they all do a good job!

Now I'm going to wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow because I might not make it in here again.  I'm really sleepy and thinking about going to bed early...if I don't fall asleep in front of the TV first.

JOY, I'm glad I went to see Dr. Doolittle and I'm sure anyone who sees it will enjoy it.  But I saw the old one about 6 times and I don't think I'll see this one again.  As I said, I'm glad I saw it this time!

Three loads of laundry are done and put away and that's my accomplishment for today.  Now, back to the TV!  Enjoy your evening, Everyfriend!

Stopping by to wish all a good night. Had a nice visit with my cardiologist, he is like an old friend after more than 30 years. He said he'd explain what to do with me to the doctor doing the cataract surgery.  ;)  Just have to wait for the appointment Feb.7 to talk to that doctor, and set up the surgery appointments. Once that is all over and I get new glasses, I hope to be fit to run off for a while.

Had bad news about 2 cousins last night, sisters, one isn't expected to survive a stroke and the other is in a nursing home after a fall. That whole family of girls (5) were RNs..nurses. The only boy was closer to my age & still living. I've not been able to go to 2 other cousins funerals that died since I blew my knee 2 months ago, and it is the only time we see each other any more. Kinda sad mood tonight, but it is life and I will be okay tomorrow. Both of these "girls" are in their 90s, so we know we can't live forever, right?

It is bitter cold, some kind of moisture outside but not sure what the temp is if freezing. We had snow, freezing rain this morning but the streets weren't too bad, icky, car is filthy... but think it is supposed to warm up by the week end. I have a tire that says to "add air", so will check it out in the morning & get it to Sam's Club to fix. I checked them a few days ago & all read the same, the pot holes were terrible all the way to the Dr.'s office so maybe it picked up something or cut it... hope it isn't all the way flat in the morning. I was too tired to get out the little air compressor to fill it when I got home, it came on when I was about half way home.

Looks like everyone is checking in except haven't seen Mary Ann for a while. I think I am sleepy, anyone else missing?

Sweet dreams to all, and God Bless. Shirley

Shirley, strange that you should mention my name because this was the only folder open and as I'm going to head for bed, I thought I'd make my last post here - no one has posted in Norm's B&T.  I do try to post in both folders but usually not at the same time.

It is 30 degrees here, so not so cold.  Of course, I'm sitting here in a warm room and in a comfortable chair.

My cataract surgery went well in 1999 so I hope yours does too.  You have reaction problems I did not have.  I really have been fortunate in that my allergies are things in the air that we can do nothing about.  I did get shots for nearly four years to increase my tolerance to those things.  I had two food allergies and the advice for those are to not eat them.  I do not have a medicine allergy until it would be to something I haven't been tested on yet.

In a way, I had a bad day today, however, I'm exaggerating.  I like a peanut butter cookie with coffee in the morning and we're out of cookies.  Saltines are not good substitutes, but that is what I had, and will have tomorrow.  Bread was down to two crusts and one slice.  Tom was gone.  I did have a half ham sandwich that Tom made a day ago so that was my lunch.  Then I decided to make stew and when I went to get the crock pot, it was on a shelf in the coat closet and I can't reach that high.  So no stew.  I sent an e-mail to Tom saying "Gripe".  I know he will not be going to the store tomorrow so it will be more of the same.  When he got home, he did fix me a nice supper of chicken. broccoli and potato, so I had one good meal today.  I told Tom "it isn't easy being 95" because I can't do much.

Before I start complaining, I'll say "good night" and go to bed!

Wednesday night HELLO toEVERYFRIEND.

THE Bob Cats are still around each day.  A neighbor called tonight to tell us about seeing them out side of her home playing this morning.  I caught them on our cameras this morning also.  They are so cute❣️

Bob's dizziness continues in spite of him trying the suggestion you all shared, so he did call our doctor and with insistence got a appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Before he encouraged a earlier appointment they would see him a week from today😩😩

It is late and I am headed off to bed....pleasant dreams to all.

A quick Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope you all have a lovely day.

JENNY, good that BOB insisted on an earlier appointment.  Feeling dizzy is no fun!  I hope they find out what's wrong and fix it now.

I have nothing planned for today except for a quick trip to WM to return one item and pick up 2 others.  I'm thinking of putting something in the crock pot for supper and the I'm leaning toward doing it in the IP and see if it's as good that way.  I have to learn more.  Aside from that, I'm going to continue with the cleaning up and throwing out!  Almost forgot, I have some stuff in the car to drop off at Good Will and some more back on the bed in the spare room to add to it.

I sure don't sound very organized but I'll get with it as I get more awake.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to pop in and share it with us!

Good morning everyone.

We are to have warmer weather and may even get a bit of rain. Rather have snow than rain but we get what we get. Taking Kyle to the chiropractor this morning and then home to play catch up on what didn't get done yesterday.

Jane , I like to think I am organized no matter how disorganized I am. Things will get done sooner or later and sometimes it is later.

Jenny, happy to read Bob got an early appointment with the Dr.

Shirley, sorry to read about your cousins. Time has a way of sneaking up on us.

Mary Ann, hope today is a better day for you..

Lloyd, good morning, I see you popped in.. IP is an Instant Pot. A pressure cooker that is electric, not one you put on the stove. Amazing pot and I for one wish I had of had one when working..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Another chilly morning here but it is supposed to warm up a little on the weekend.  I was just reading an article in the local news that tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the biggest snow storm ever on record in central No. Carolina.  We woke up to 20 inches of snow here 20 years ago. It caught everyone completely by surprise, even the forecasters who didn't see it coming. This whole area just came to a dead stop.  But, I remember it was so beautiful.  I used to have pictures of it but lost them when my computer crashed a few years ago.

Grocery shopping today.  I would like to go with David but not sure I can make it.  We'll see.

Take care, All.

Phyllis, I don't remember any blizzard here 20 years ago (2000) but two stick out in my memory, both at the end of January and they were in 1977 and 1978.  I remember walking down the middle of the street to get to a main road which was plowed so a co-worker could pick me up to go to work.  Not many people made it to work.  So far this year, we've had a mild winter.  I've often said if I could get through November and December, I could take what January and February offered.  And January is nearly over.  Even our temps have not been bad.  Lake Michigan does not have any ice on it yet.

Good morning everyone, wokereally late this morning and just getting here with my coffee. The new CNA seems OK, she is 37 so makes me wonder how old the one in the office is. One thing I learned from her is she likes to cook. Will see how that goes. Maybe I can start adding a few pounds if she is good. Right now I have a longing for mac & cheese and not the kind that comes in a package or is frozen. She just bought a house and is taking nursing classes so came back to work she did before. Single and loves her family. Cannot be bad, right? Time will tell how long the dumb woman in the office leaves her here.

AMY  now I know why you have a van, are you sure you don't need a panel truck to carry all the items you buy at Costco and other places on the way home? Wish you were my neighbor.

JOY  good seeing your post. Thanks for mentioning your meds, reminded my I didn't get mine yet. First time since I started taking meds that I ever forgot. Ok now I have taken that first one before eating. Coffee isn't eating, right? This is the first winter than the cold has kept me inside. That tells me I am now OLD.

LLOYD  this is the first morning that it is in the high 20's now so maybe I will get out later. The sunn is shining bright.

JANE  I found that I am never happy with remakes of old movies, always something wrong with them.

SHIRLEY  around here every year the pot holes that show up from the plowing of snow are responsible for even the wheels needing to be replaced, not just tires.

MARY ANN  no fun being 88 and not able to do much either.

JENNY  glad Bob did not have to wait a week for an appointment.

JANE  funny how much we collect when in one home for years. I know I got rid of a lot when I moved here and at times I still look for something and remember I threw it away.

LLOYD  just 35 here at 11:30 and with the sun it will get warmer.

PHYLLIS  GLAD dAVID CAN GET  GROCERIES FOR YOU, At least he knows what you like. I send CNA's to the market and tell them to get just what is on the list, If the do not have it nothing else, no substitutes.

Sorry for being so inconsistent in my messages this year.  We have had company & relatives galore.  I have been trying to keep up with the Balance class (it does make me aware of what not to do.  For instance, stop walking so fast CAROL!  It is not a race!

We take a Science class together and it is on Alzheimer's Disease (my mom had that dreadful disease).  All the speakers are interesting and one point is to keep visiting with others (not a problem for us).  After three weeks of non-stop visitors, I can attest that I did my share of social interaction.

Jenny:  Best wishes on a good check-up for Bob.  There are a lot of ideas for being dizzy at times, and some exercises as well.  Don takes a cane with him now when we walk.

You have bobcats nearby?  We see them here all the time but at home it is usually deer in the ravine.  Luckily, while driving slowly in the area - a herd of javelinas missed my car because I could stop.  So glad not to be walking - the adults can be viscious and they are filled with germs when they bite.

Gloria:  Coffee sounds so good but I quit about a month ago because of stomach pain.  Self-diagnosed and it sure burns me that my Scandinavian relatives drink coffee and eat pie at 10 PM and they never have problems.  Not fair!

Gloria:  Let's hope this new helper is a keeper!

Well, doggies.... I think I know why my post is missing & probably why a lot of ours are missing. I was in a rush to post & then walked away and didn't notice someone else had posted first, so mine didn't "stick" because I didn't hit the post button again!  :P  :P  :P

Mary Ann, I was giving you all my tips for having stuff on hand when we ran out when out camping. Always part of the fun of camping, coming up with something out of nothing. I won't repeat everything in case I posted in the wrong place, that's happened before, too.  EDIT:  I just came from the sink where I washed the measuring pitcher I mixed my pancakes in this morning. After telling you about our "fix" for running out of bread (Aunt Jemima original pancake mix)... just add water to dry amount you think you can eat... stir & fry in a hot skillet.  Yummy when wrapped around those breakfast sausages. Sounded so good this morning I mixed some up (with syrup) & had a hard boiled egg for protein.

Carol, I'm another that loves a cup of coffee & something sweet before bed, but everyone thinks I'm strange.  ;)  :uglystupid2:  :crazy2:  I've given up coffee before but give up chocolate at the same time, my gall bladder appreciates a time out. Seems okay after a short time, but have to accept the headaches from lack of caffeine. Tell Bob we carve long poles for walking sticks that help going up & down the ravines in CO. I take one down to the river with me, partly to steady myself but also as defense in case wildlife has a problem with me invading their territory. I've never met any that did, but have had close encounters with coyotes before.

Gloria, maybe the new girl is young enough to train, you think? I mentioned to Mary Ann (in the missing post) about the package of peanut butter cookies laying on the counter waiting to be baked, I'm sure not as good as what my aunt always made, but probably better for me than hers were. Mom didn't approve of the shortening she used (lard?), boy, they were good, but hope these are better than I've had the last few years. I think they are Betty Crocker. Maybe you would eat better if you smelled something you like cooking.

Amy, I've been dropping little hints to the various doctors about getting things done at one time instead of running back & forth so much. One of them actually seemed to notice what I was saying. My youngest son volunteered to take me for the cataract surgery, at least the first eye. He says he can "work from their clinic" so no big deal. It is to me, but all 3 kids threw a fit when I said I could "Uber".... They think I need a keeper.  :-[

Cats are lined up for their afternoon snack of raw hamburger. This was the meal when they got rotisserie chicken, but got tired of that. Sometimes they get the canned chicken breast but right now they are on a raw hamburger (only the best, Sam's Club Angus, leanest you can buy)jag. Any wonder why they couldn't survive in the wild anymore?   :o  ::)

Little rain but talking like it could turn to snow tonight. The wind is rocking the trees down by the river, ice could bring them down. We'll see what Mother Nature hands out....

In case anyone cares, the cupboard and refrigerator are restocked.  Tom went to the store this afternoon.  I think I missed the peanut butter cookies the most because when I get up in the morning, I fix me a cup of flavored coffee and have a cookie too.  I found some saltines, but you know they are not the same.

Tom has left to pick up a new-to-him car, a Toyota Avalon.  We split the cost as he is my driver to wherever I go (except church) and I don't want him driving a car that will fall apart on the X-way.  I share as much for his protection as for my transportation.  I don't remember the year but it is newer than his 2006 Camry.  I hope it fits in the garage.

Shirley, I had not heard about mixing pancake mix and water to make a bread.  I think we have some mix in the house so I'll have to remember that when I'm high and dry again.  Remember I did not bring up children so was not up on "tricks" like that.  I remember my mother using lard, probably in pie crusts but I think she used Crisco in cookies and cakes.  It's been so long ago that I don't even remember what I used when baking.

Mary Ann, I use the original pancake mix that calls for water & just put as much as I will eat in a 2 cup Pyrex measuring pitcher & start mixing water until it is "pancake consistency", fry & then just wrap the meat or whatever inside. The first few trips the boys & I made to the mountains without Cas, we didn't go into town but maybe once, for ice & usually milk. I learned to keep powdered milk on hand for emergencies, but mainly kept foods that didn't need refrigeration. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches were always good but the boys loved a campfire so wrapped potatoes in aluminum foil was good, along with any kind of meat grilled, always fresh carrots & celery sticks. We had a little metal oven that sat over a campfire or Coleman stove to bake in so was fun baking our sweets. I was a Girl Scout only one day but still love the outdoors. With the RV, hardly counts as "camping".... but I enjoy it. Cas hated camping so we agreed that "I wouldn't follow him around the golf course griping and he wouldn't go camping and griping with me". Worked for us. Even though Cas didn't want me to work, my paintings sold at the 2 shows a year I entered to keep me in "mad money" and paid for all art supplies as well as cameras & trips. All the painting I have done the last 30 years is as gifts for people that did nice things for me. You life like the way it happens, right?

Hope Tom gets as good of service out of his Toyota as Andy has his... think he's on the 2nd hundred thousand miles. It pulls his smaller camper without any trouble & they don't make the bigger engine his has anymore, so he hates to give it up. They also have a huge 3/4 ton van to pull their bigger camper and his wife has a new car she drives back & forth to work. Out here in KS, we travel miles instead of blocks so most vehicles get a lot of miles on them.

Sweet dreams to all, cats are begging to go outside to check out the snow so I'd better feed them their last meal of the day.

Shirley, my family are not campers which is kind of strange because Tom's mother liked to camp, however, in a tent trailer.  One year she and I went north of here to Croton Dam on the Muskegon River.  Norm hauled the trailer and set it up and left because he had to work.  I like storms and we had a doozy while there.  The trailer had an awning and Joyce and I stood under it with poles to keep the rain from collapsing the awning.  We finally gave it up as a bad job.  I think the boys (Tom and his brothers) were all under the age of ten.  We all had a lot of fun.  I have no idea what we ate.  A friend of Norm's came up the river in a houseboat and gave us a long ride.  My dad was an outdoors person but I am sure my mother was not.  Her idea of being outdoors was to pack a lunch and go to a park and eat our lunch.  She would sit on a bench while we kids would swing and teeter and slide.  She didn't object to our doing those things but it was not her thing.

I know I've told that I like PB and mayo sandwiches, still do.  PB and jam or jello does not appeal to me.

When he was young, Dad went to the Grand Canyon and went part way down.  I have a story he wrote but I have only part of the story.  He was with others and I think they got lost and dark came and the rest of the story was gone.

I would not go camping now and maybe in ten years you will not, either, Shirley.

On the first night, Tom loves his "new" car.  It is so quiet and so clean.  He takes good care of his cars so they were usually semi-clean, certainly not dirty.  It rides very nice and Tom loves to drive, so it will get a lot of use.

Sandy, I had that, then the left column disappeared.  On another computer, I could not find a way to sign off on S&F then all of a sudden things were back to normal.   Gremlins?

Hello my friends!  I got another little hole cleaned out, took two bags and a box to the dumpster, a box and a bag to Goodwill and returned a lamp shade to WM.  Also picked up some paper work at my daughter's office and dropped it off at another office.  Mickie and I had 3 nice walks today and I got started on another spot to clean out.  It was a pretty good day!

Now I'm going to try to get to bed early because Cathy is picking me up at 8 a.m. tomorrow to go to the Amish Store.  They are having one of their twice yearly 20% off EVERYTHING weekends and we're going to stock up.  My list is loaded with paper goods and some canned goods but I'm sure I'll see things I need that aren't on my list.  If I don't manage to get in here in the morning don't worry.  I'm just enjoying my shopping and saving time.

Shirley, I'm a camper from way back.  I was a Girl Scout for 65 years and did lots of camping and travelling with my various troops and I've never heard of mixing pancake mix and water to take the place of bread.  After you mix it, do you just fry it like you would a pancake?  And then you use it like you would bread or rolls?  I guess I didn't learn this trick because I'm not a real fan of pancakes.  Teach me!

I'm going to bid you all goodnight.  May you have a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

It is late and I am headed off to bed, but I did want to share the out come of the visit to the doctors office this afternoon.

It has been a stressful day with the worry about Bobs dizziness issue.....this morning when he woke up he tried to do the exercise that many do to help with vertigo.....he did it turning on one side, and nothing happened, so he did the other side and it was awful for him.....the worse than ever dizziness and then it made him super sick to his stomach.....we went well prepared to tell the doctor all that has been going one, starting back with the cold he had and before long the doctor was convinced it was not a stroke, Parkinson's or even vertigo issue, but rather pressure in his head/ears.  He did a little procedure on him that consisted of pretty much pooping his ears and it was immediately successful......as the day has progressed it is not quite as good as it was, so Bob is to retry the procedure again before bed and hopefully he will wake up and hopefully there will be no dizziness!

Thank you for the concerns and good wishes....we are very hopeful this issue w8ll be gone or at least better when Bob awakes tomorrow.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

I seem to be getting enough sleep lately  so I am ready to roll this morning & still only 5:00 am. Woke up at 4:00 & couldn't go back to sleep thinking about the dreaded meds given to do cataract surgery. I know there's no way around numbing the eye & something so I don't move, but it's that "something" that scares me. The 2 things they use if you have an allergic reaction (benadryl & prednisone) are my worst enemies... with a tiny speck of benadryl in an allergy 'script, I could not blink or swallow. Having coffee with neighbor so she called the doctor & was told to keep pouring coffee in me & not let me go to sleep. With the prednisone, the 3rd day on the pills I had swelled up so much my arms stuck out like a scarecrow & head felt like it was going to ooze out of the skull. Really a challenge to calm my fears & do what is necessary, but can't put it off any longer if I want to keep on driving.

Jenny, prayers that Bob wakes up free of the dizzies. I have a friend that did the "routine" most do before getting out of bed and it made her as sick as Bob.

Now about those pancakes we use instead of bread.... if you like crepes with various stuffings, pancakes are basically the same without the "raising", so thicker & fluffier. I add a tad more water to make them thinner when using as a breakfast "wrap". (Yes, I fry them like normal pancakes). When the "complete" pancakes came out I used milk instead of water and took powdered milk to use out camping. Then I realized the "complete" had powdered milk in the mix.  :-[  The boys never like the taste of powdered milk to drink, so we came up with freezing big blocks of ice so the cooler stayed cold longer. The frig in the RV runs on propane so always plenty of ice & storage for food. We all know that when out in the fresh air, camping, anything tastes good... but now & then I like pancakes, better in the evening than breakfast. For most of my life I didn't dare eat something sweet until I stoked my tummy with an egg or even biscuit & gravy, jelly on toast comes last. Tummy would go into cramps with sweets or even coffee on an empty stomach. I really can eat anything but have to listen to my body about when.

Quick EDIT:  Mary Ann, my sister loved & still loves peanut butter & banana sandwiches. Good thing we aren't all alike, right???  My son likes mayo to dip his french fries in.. says what is offered in his many trips overseas. NOT something that works for me.

I'm off to fix my breakfast & check to see if Tom & Callie are ready to come back inside. They cleaned out their bowls & made a dash for the door. Callie would rather stay inside but she likes to keep track of Tom. Tiger expects breakfast in the other end of the house & doesn't come in unless I am too slow about serving. She will wait for the sun to shine before going out.

Good Morning everyone.I according to the breathing machine got 9 hours of sleep. but quite a bit of was awake and mined rambling on even some dreaming. AMY could not stand to keep the snow up there. don't know how much we have but we have well over 2" on the deck so far and still cumming down hard. so couch jockey again today, and leaving it to neighbor to get hay to the two cows we have left. I hope the roads get cleared enough to get them hauled to sale by next Tuesday. Have a great day the way you like it.

Good morning everyone.

Weather folks say we are to get more snow Sat and Sun..everyone is preparing for it.again.

We are going to check out  winter boots that are on sale 70% off at Canadian Tire. Not much else on other than the purging.

Shirley, I can understand your fear with the  meds. Hope the Dr can find or do something that won't give you the reaction the other med did.

Jane, I need your purging ambition...I have it in thought now to find the energy to complete it.

Jenny, that must have been scary! The treatment sound like what the Dr did on Kyle's ears...and it worked! The last time though he didn't do it, just gave him exercises to do. Hope Bob has a better day today.

Gloria, would love to be your neighbour. We have the middle seats down in the van ,at the moment we have a huge dog cage in it for the pup. Waiting for him to get out of the terrible chews ,then the cage can be taken out.

Lloyd, we don't have any new snow.yet We will get it tomorrow and Sun. I took the snowblower and ice chisel to flatten the tops of the banks at the end of the driveway yesterday so we are now prepared for more.

Better get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day everyone...

Good morning, starting again. Lost what I had written because this machine froze.  I thought it was this site but it was every thing so shut down and let it rest. Was OK when I turned it on again.

CAROL  this new CNA seems OK so far in the 2 days she has been here. She did not like the way the bathroom floor looked so washed it on her hands and knees. That is one thing they aren't supposed to do.

SHIRLEY  this new one is not that young, she is 37. She is a bit old fashioned as she loves family and is with them as often as she can. She is a talker so t quiet when she is here. I will not tell the one in the ofice I like her because every time I told her that she would change them. I have no appetite because I am not active anymore.

MARY ANN  my Mom used lard for pie crust and it was so tasty and flaky. Then lard was no good us but I noticed last time I was in a market that they had it on the counter again.

JANE  I know you will like your shopping this morning. Saving 2% would make every one shop at the Amish store.

SHIRLEY around here it is malt vinegar on french fries.

LLOYD  hope you get the last 2 cows. Something less for you to worry about.

AMY  when you move here I would love being your neighbor. I will not move to Canada, too cold for me now.

Have a good day.

Gloria, I like malt vinegar on my cod fish (Long John Silver's around here)... have a bottle in the frig that must be at least 7-8 years old, wonder how long to keep it?  ::)  I don't get to LJS very often, sometimes their oil is old & has a whang to it. :P  I like my french fries plain (salt) or with catsup. I have a Presto fry baby & keep Wesson corn oil in it & will peel a potato, slice & eat french fries before going to bed.

I decided I needed to get off the fast food & bought a whole salmon yesterday so spent nearly an hour on the internet this morning, to see how to oven bake, (not grilling weather). I will freeze serving sizes, my poor freezer is groaning right now, it will be glad when I get outside again! Salmon is not a native fish for KS so sometimes can be smelly, depending on the store. Growing up in MO with a father that loved to fish & mother that could make anything taste good, it was cat fish, pan fried & crisp.

You must try french fries with Honey Mustard!  I did that accidentally one night at the bowling alley, when everyone at the table had a different "dip" for their fries.  It is so good, and now I prefer it to catsup.  (fries dipped in good old-fashioned cream gravy is the best)!  Well, cream gravy is the best on anything; mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, toast, biscuits...oh, yum, I'm making myself hungry! Shirley, I bet you can make awesome cream gravy!!

Tomereader1, every time I see your name I want to ask you "how you came up with that name?"  Years ago when I first started with computers, a friend in central MO also got her first one & our kids helped us with names, & e-mail. Never knew how she came up with same as yours without the 1 on the end. She died quite a while ago so will never know. I do love to eat. Last summer when camping out in CO next to my sons, the youngest did have the seasoned mustard we got in town, to dip his fries in. Both boys love mustard & made fast work of the mustard I made from somebody's recipe in here.

The salmon baked up beautifully. I ate all I could hold & wrapped up 5 packages to freeze with enough put in the fridge for a good meal. Got to figure how to post this without losing & still enlarge & color.[/color]

Was your friend a reader?

Shirley , my Dad loved to fish and he never came home skunked. We had pickerel, bass, mudcat and smelt whoops forget the perch. I love fish and think I could eat it 7 days a week as long as the wiggle is cooked out of it.

Well we arrived at the Amish store and the first thing was the parking lot was JAMMED FULL!  After Cathy managed to squeeze her car into a space on the edge of the lot and we walked up to the door, we noticed a line...outside the store.  Cathy asked a few questions and it seems the line was waiting for customers to come out and the the first person in line would follow the customer to her/his car, wait for them to unload and return with the cart to do his/her shopping.  We counted and we would have been 28th and 29th in line.  We opted not to wait.  If the line outside was that long, we wondered how the checkouts looked and how crowded the aisles were.  On the way home we talked about what we might be willing to stand in line for and I can't think of anything unless it would benefit the health of someone I love!  How about all of you?  What would you be wlling to wait in a long line, in 22º weather to get?

So I came home and rooted through the freezer and cooked some stuff that needed cooking.  Wanna join me for smorgasbord for supper?

Hope you all had a great day!
Hope you made it your own in every way!

Jane, not much I'm willing to stand in line for anymore. I don't even have patience to hang onto the phone when "you are caller number 11"... & repeats every few minutes saying the same thing. I was going to call the trash service this week to tell them my bill arrived the day before it was due, so impossible to get there on time. But I wasn't willing to hang on that long. We have a problem with mail, no regular mail carrier & often mail will go into a box (garage door slot) and not be seen until someone checks on an empty house. Guess the only line I wait in is at the doctors offices. Sorry you didn't get to bargain shop, Jane. I keep telling myself I need to eat what's in the freezer & quit cooking more, but I don't listen.  :P

Aw, Amy, that is so sweet.

Shirley, MaryAnn is basically correct; "a large or scholarly book".  I got my computer about the same time "Lara Croft-Tomb Raider" came out in the movies. Not wanting to be a tomb raider, I decided, since I read so much, that Tomereader would be apropos for me. I have other "handles" but opted for Tomereader to sign in to S&F.

Thanks AMY.was good But could not to get the volume up where I need it. I have often thought I would like to make a video and put it on line but have no clue. the snow we got was very wet and heavy. our country roads were a mess and muddy under neath. aw have a short steep incline in it and even tho we have good full treed they would not pull through it up the hill. I baked up and got a run around the circle and could not get up  that way either. so i was backing up to try the first curve and got a little far to the side and got front wheels in a wash and could not go either way, the car is front wheel drive, so had to walk on to house and call for help. sure is good to be blessed with good grand children, that will help and wont take any $$$. well time I wish you all good Night and sweet dreams. I have took my shot and tested my blood sugar. iate a good size of good red grapes and took it too soon after and was a bit high reading. VA want me to take it several times a day so they know how to adjust my Insulin. I guess that will help me to live longer to tease you all?

Good morning everyone, got warm during the night, 36 now and rain is supposed to tart late afternoon and stop early morning, but cloudy all day. Not good weather for me. Already feel the humidity in my back. No wonder I woke so early.

SHIRLEY  NO KIDDING, SALMON IS NOT NATIVE IN KANSAS? Gee you mean you don't live near the ocean?;) With so much fresh fish here I seldom have it. I do like fish and chips at 2 different restaurants at times. Cooked to much of it when my sons used to go fishing. We don't have your catfish here but we do have pout or horn pout as some call it and they are small. I can remember my Dad and brothers going fishing at  night for them I did like them at one time but  cooked  to many of them. First time I saw someone eating fries with catsup it turned my tummy. I never heard of venigar going bad but it never lasts too long to ‌find out.

AMY  it was beautiful here yesterday, nice and warm and sunny. My CNA and I went outside and walked aroung the parking lot. Felt great.

JANE  I would not stand in line 10 minutes, with the rollator I would sit.  I know a few restaurants around here that people will wait in line to get  in. Food must be good there. I sure would stand in line like that if I was hungry. I would wait at an airpor t to welcome a family member or good friend who was coming in.

LLOYD  my Mom and some other family members had to take insulin. Don't know how I didn't get diabetis along with most of the family. I always tell my 3 when they go to a new doctor that there is diabetes in my family.

Have a good day.

I'm up and Mickie and I have been out and we didn't fiddle around out there.  It's doing something and I'm pretty sure if I could see it I'd call it sleet or freezing rain.  It's supposed to warm up as the day progresses and then it's supposed to turn to just rain.  I'll be watching because I made arrangements with Frankie to drop off her dog food and pick her up in time to get her to work at 11.  I need some stuff from the store and I have a gift card for the store where she works so we can get three things done at the same time....if the weather cooperates!

I'm pretty sure the salt trucks will be out on the main roads before 10:30 so all I have to do is hope.

That's the only thing I have planned for today except for a visit from an electrician.  They fixed my breaker box and they fixed it so good that I can't get it open and I need to get in there and trip one of the breakers.  I don't have any lights in my little bathroom and in my bedroom.  Right now I have my living room floor lamp on an extension cord from down the hall and that's a pain.

Mickie and I are waiting for the boinger for breakfast and then it should be light enough to take a walk.  I hope the weather changes by then.  The temps are in the mid 30s so whatever comes out of the sky shouldn't freeze on the roads.  Especially if the salt trucks do their job.

We shall see what the day brings.  GLORIA nice that you had a walk outside yesterday.  Looks like you got a good CNA this time.

LLOYD, thank goodness for our young'uns!  They always come through for us!  We manage to get ourselves into some messes and they get us out!  I guess the Good Lord knew what he was doing when he put us here in different generations!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And stop by to share it with your friends in SS!

Ah, thanks, Mary Ann & Tomereader.... I still am surprised to see 2 of you with the same exact handle.... I am also a reader, or was. I quit some years ago because I am obsessed and always have to finish a book or can't sleep, would find myself still reading when time to get up, not good. We had a Carnegie Libary where I grew up & I think I read every book in it when in grade school. I read everything from Mother's magazines to Dad's Outdoor Life & my brother Popular Science & Mechanics Illustrated. They weren't all advertising back then!

Cats are in & out tonight, not ready for bed because it's been wet & cloudy yesterday & today & even cats know they need exercise. I am getting sleepy already so would like them to settle down, too cold to leave them out all night.

It is morning, I neglected to finish or turn the computer off last night, or maybe I started this when I got up middle of the night. I didn't do a lot of sleeping, for sure.

Today is my daughter's birthday. Brings back many memories. I have some house cleaning chores to do, a major one where Tom or Callie decided the litter box should be only is not! Happens to be where I keep a bag of potatoes & onions, as well as the cats extra bowls, so not sure what I will find, a "clutter corner", smelly one! Onward!!!

Goodness, a whole bunch of you popped in since I started typing this last night! Am hungry so visit later.

good Mid day.the battery's in the tractor would not take a charge. so took them out, and that was a chore, I have them loaded in the van. but the battery store is no longer open on Saturday so out of business until Monday un less i go to Walmart or local parts store and they are both lot higher priced. i may  bite the bullet and pay the extra,as we are supposed to get more of that snow AMY is sending this way. and driveway is already a mess. i have a big tractor 130 horse power and a 12 ft wide blade circle and 12 ft long moldboard off of a # 12 cat road grader, now it will clean the road right down to the gravel.
we have plenty food and milk so may stay in and take a chance on missing it, and rest.

see you all later.

I came from a family of
readers.    My father use to read the
first chapter, a middle chapter and the last
chapter in a book.  If he liked it,  he would
read the whole book...  Always in one day.

I remember that he read Hawaii in one day...
Well,  at least he said he did.  We
didn't discuss the books... just read
them...

I suspect that we all read because
we didn't want to talk to
one another..  (ha ha ha) ..
Not "just kidding" ...

Now I go to bed with my books on disc,
every single night.  (with timer set for
one hour)...Most the time I sleep,  get up
walk to the bathroom and set the time on the
book and go to sleep again.

I sleep more hours per night then
I use to.   (when 4 or 5 would be my limit)

To me, sleeping more is very
important for good health...
or at least that is what I have read.

Good Night Everyone !
Sandy

Good morning everyone, 38 so should be no black ice from last night's rain. Wind picked up in the worse of the rain and we lost power for 1 1/2 hours last night. I was getting ready for bed so it did bother me. Only had to fix the time on th‏e micro this morning. Had both sons here yesterday morning, nice I like that.

JANE  hope this CNA works out. She is pleasant and the hours are the ones I am used to. I was told she will be permanent. Will see how long that lasts. I am begining to think my favorite one will not be co‌mingg back to work. I do mi‭ss her. Hope the roads were good for you yesterday with the trips you had to make.

LLOYD  great to have family around when we need help. You with your grands and me with my sons and 1 grandson. I know if my daughter lived near she would be here most every day but she lives in Arizona.

AMY  now I know why I felt good yesterday, it was your hug. Thanks. It wasn't cod here yesterday and I walked out with my sons when they left. I didn' t put on y war n vest under my jacket and was sorry I didn't. Very damp and I got a chill, not good for these old bones. I did turn up the heat when I got in.

SHIRLEY  I always have a book with me. If no one is outside when I go out I read, when TV is not good I read. I also have the Kindall with souie L'Amour books in it and read that in here. I have all the books of his Sackett family on it. He sure describes the old west like it was.

LLOYD  hope you stayed inside and rested. PLEASE be careful on the tractor. We do not want to read about another accident, you are way over the limit allowed for them.

AMY  rather have snow than rain, not as damp and miserable looking. At least the snow is beautiful.

SANDY  I remember reading Hawaii, took me 3 weeks but at that time I was working, had 3 little ones an a house to take care  of, not to mention my lazy husband.

Have a good day.

This is just a quick check in since I didn't check out last night.  Mickie has had her pill and we're in our hour wait time before she can eat.  So I'm heading for the shower so I'm ready for church when it's time to go.

I think Frankie is coming over this afternoon and, while I like her to come, it's going to be hard today because I sure didn't sleep well last night!  I'm going to need a nap sometime today but I'm going to try to keep it short so I have some zzzzzs left for when I go to bed.

GLORIA how nice to have both sons visit you at the same time!  I love it when the kids "gang up" on me!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And keep sharing it with all of us.  We love hearing from you!

Good snowy morning everyone.
We did get more snow over night, maybe another 3 inches. Will deal with that after I have had my tea.

A day of rest here so maybe the sewing room and I will have a date.........after my waltz.

Gloria, it is a winter wonderland out there now, The snow was heavy and coated the branches of the tress......even my clothes line has about 1 inch of snow built up on it! Love Louis L'Amour. He has you at the first page while Zane Grey describes every blade of grass and takes a while to get to the meat of the story.

Sandy, I also believe sleep in good medicine. Figure while you are sleeping your body is in no stress and can be healing.

Better get my dancing boots on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Super Sunday morning to all. Sun shining bright & already 39° & had 2 different predicts, either 50°  or 59° , and I'm betting at least 59°! Feels like spring.

Had a little excitement when I got back from church, caller ID showed a neighbor that "lives around the corner" had called. I figured  her dog must have gotten out & she needed help to find... but instead she had a chicken on her front porch! She knew about one neighbor having chickens & tried to call, no answer, so needed advice or help with what to do. Last night when I came up from the river the "girl" next door was standing out waiting to talk, something had gotten into their hen house the night before & killed 2 of their 6 chickens, another missing but couldn't find any feathers of the 3rd missing. These are the most beautiful chickens you ever saw, and I used to go through the poultry barn at the state fair to see them, so I know pretty. 2 hens each of 3 different types. Anyway, got hold of the girl next door & they went around to see if she was their's... just talked to them over the fence, it is & she is back in her fence & happy after a day & night without her friends or food!!! What ever got the others, didn't harm her but we'll never know how she managed to get out of the pen & survive whatever it was that got the others! Happy ending.

I'm going to rake up more of those awful sweet gum balls after while, won't be work, just nice to be out & satisfaction of getting those little spiky things up, hard to walk on. I recall when the tree was young and my husband was so tickled when it had it's FIRST little ball at the top of the tree, only one that year. Could not count how many hundreds (or thousands) it had this year & still some hanging on. I have little sweet gum & redbud trees that pop up even in the cracks of the sidewalk & driveway! Some of our coldest weather is at the end of Feb, so all the sprouts popping out of the ground will probably be killed back this year. We had a lot of plants that never recovered one year like this, sometime in the last 31 years.

Reading:  I was sitting on the living room floor reading uder the big lamp and someone was moving the light.  Never looking up, I complained that my brother was moving the lamp.  Finally, looking up I saw my mother and she looked like she was talking but nothing could be heard.  She was trying to get me up and out of the house - it was an earthquake.  I was about 7 or 8 years of age in Seattle.  To make matters worse - my dad was putting in a basement on the house and it was held together by only wood and jacks at that time - later, he did get it finished rather quickly. I read "Gone with the Wind" in one night - with a flashlight under the covers.  Always have a book available or my life isn't complete.

Well I got to church on time and really enjoyed the service after missing 2 in a row due to bad weather.  I stayed for coffee hour and company and then made a quick stop at WM on the way home for two things I forgot yesterday.  Unfortunately, I could only remember one of them when I got there so I'm still short something and I still don't remember what.  It must not have been too important.

I spent the afternoon dealing with the things I bought that had to be dealt with.  Yesterday, I cooked some chicken that I bought to make dog food and there was enough left over to make chicken noodle soup for me.  Boy!  did that ever taste good on this cold day.  Now the dishes are all washed up and I'm waiting for Frankie to arrive.  She's going to spend the night and then I'll take her in time to get to work tomorrow.

Frankie needs to spend Friday with her Father and he doesn't like her doggie so she's bringing him here Thursday evening and he'll spend the day with us.  He's a cutie and we love him so that'll be a good time for Mickie.  She'll have some company!

SHIRLEY, it sounds like there's at least one happy chicken in your neighborhood.  You proved to be a good "middle-person".  I can't say I've ever thought of chickens as "beautiful" but I do like their eggs and the peeps are so cute!

AMY, I hope your "waltz" wasn't too tiring and it all went well.  I'd prefer he sewing part of your day.  Now I'm going to go take Mickie out and then see if there might be a few zzzzs on the couch.  Maybe I can get forty winks before Frankie arrives.  Enjoy the rest of your day.

Carol, were you thinking about the big earthquake in Seattle in 1949?

My mother was standing in the doorway paying the milkman.  She would hand him the money and he would hand it back to her!  We were living in a fairly new house in the Green Lake area.  There was a considerable amount of damage to our house.  Across the street, there was an old probably at least a 100-year-old farmhouse.  There was no damage to it, not even a brick fell off the chimney.

There were several other large ones I remember but that was the one that really sticks in my mind.

well I was reading today and someone was talking about earthquakes, brought back memryes of years gone by. when I was delivering piggyback trucks to Stockton CA. and lsangles I got there and when they opened up and let me in the gate they asked me how i got there. smarty me said drove here. they said no you do not understand what time did you come through the valley I said around Midnight.they said don't know how about that time was when we had a bad earthquake. the road is impassible. must have right when I cumming through there I thought this road has gotten afoul rough. and that happened to me two deferant times about a year apart when I was going to Stockton CA. and a took a four way to Las angle's CA. they asked me if I wanted to get a moatell I said no on airplane.for home they call the airport an they asked them to hold the plane a few min. the man took me through rush hour traffic at 60 and higher zigzagging through it. grabbed my soutchase and ran to plane and got on it. In those days we did not have all the foul we have now and no baggies check. we were still climbing up to the glide path, and the pilot came on the PA and said lady's and gentleman down there we just left they just had a bad earthquake.bridges and buildings down every where. when we landed in KC. AI. the man from the shop picked me up at airport he said I have bad news for you.and he told me about the earthquake, I said I know about it the pilot told us over the intercom. He said ok but the fellow that took you to the airport is under one of the bridges that fell along with lots others. took them several weeks to get the bridge broke up enough to get them out from under it. and when I was Married to Mary we visited her daughter at Sandfrisco CA.we left there and drove straight through home. we got in the house and turned on the TV. ant it was talking about the earthquake there. she got on the phone and after a couple busy signals got her daughter on the phone. she said there house it shook things off shelves but was still standing after it stopped shaking. but there were buildings down on all four sides f them. that just tells me that until god wants us with him there we cant rush it. Good night and sweet dreams,Past my bed time and I have gave my self my shot and took blood sugar test.so good night and sweat dreams.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept a little better last night than I have been doing.  I broke down and took a Melatonin before I went to bed and it must have helped.  I really don't want to become dependent on a pill to sleep but I need my sleep.  And I do feel somewhat better today.

Mickie is getting restless and ready for her breakfast.  We have about 15 minutes until the boinger so she's settled down to wait but she's grumbling about it.

After she eats, we'll take our walk then I have some kitchen stuff to do and some putting away stuff to do and myself to get ready for a dr. appt.  After that, who knows?

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And don't forget to share it with all of us!  It can't possibly be any more boring than mine!

Good morning everyone, slept till 9:30 and no help today, A message on the phone is what woke me. I have lost what I wrote already on notepad. I am not a touch typist and when I looked up the page was blank, even the undo did nothing. I think I need a new keyboard. I have a couple of old ones that will not work on this lemon so have been using an old Dell one my  son had. Looks like I need to ask my son or grandson to get me a new one. This one keeps skipping spaces so I have to keep backspacing to connect the words. No fun anymore. Having trouble with my email again. My daughter asked me yesterday how I liked the pictures she sent, never got them. I have sent  email out and found it in the ourbox. Nothing coming in or going out. Time to call Cox. A dark cloudy day here again, just tired of these gloomy days

JANE  at times the son who visits on Saturday will come on a Friday after work when my daughter and I are on Skype so I sit back and let them talk. Love the way they can still tease each other. Hope you got the nap you needed yesterday.

AMY  my Dad loved reading Zane Gray and that is how I got into them. My son let me borrow a few Louie L'Amour books and now I want to read all of them. On the Kindall I have 2 volumns of the Sacketts #1 had 5 books and #2 has either 10 or 12 but I am on about the 5th one in #2. Seems like every time I really am into it  or the best part I have to charge the darn thing again. Hpe you took a few pictures of that beautiful snow to share with us.

LLOYD  my daughter lives about an hour out of Kingman.

SHIRLEY  from what I have read about those "exotic" beautiful chickens they are expensive to buy. Think a fox got in there? Or maybe someone jealous or starving?

CAROL  you sound like me, I always have a book with me when I go out or downstairs if no one is around I read, in here I have the kindall to read, 2 books at one time? I never forget what the storie‪s are about from one to the other.

LLOYD  God was wa tching over you at the times of those earthquakes. I felt one a tmy daughter's home in San Diego. It woke me up shaking the bed and I must  have said some thing because my daughter called from her bedroom and said it was a small earthquake. I will stay here where I am. At least we know when a hurricane is coming.

JANE  I went through a period of not beeing able to sleep and go a bottle of Melatonin but they never helped me. Now I bet my days are much more boring than yours. I just comment a lot to the others here in the SS.

Have a good day.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.  I am so disappointed in myself that I do not find the time to get in here and post.... one would think I am really getting a LOT done as I am busy all day long! We are trying our best to get things cleaned out, and it is a terrible thing for me as it makes me "see" all of the mementos  and I have a really hard time being objective about what to do with them.  I have told Bob, I just wish I could walk away and take just the very minimal stuff with me, and then just have an estate sale and never look back!  I do know this is NOT. A realistic solution, but it sure would be easier on me!

It is dreary again today and I do not do well with dreary😩😢!

I enjoyed ALL of the posts and love reading what all you are up to.

AMY, your HUG was wonderful!  Thank you!

GLORIA, I smiled at BOTH of your sons visiting at the same time!  So sweet!

LLOYD, happy your grandchildren were able to come to your rescue and pull the van out of the mud!

I do enjoy reading, but for some reason I just can not concentrate on my book that I am reading right now.....THE GOLD FINCH.  It is a very large book with small print and I am not doing well.  It is so heavy for me to hold...
Even though I have it resting on a pillow in my lap, and my eyes just are not doing well with the teeny tiny print.  I always order books with large print but this one was not available in large print.  I might just have to go to the audio books.  So that is my tail os whoa! 🤪🤪

Today is #3 son, Mark and Megan's second wedding anniversary.  It is hard to believe it has been only two years and yet it seems like Jonah has been in our lives at least that long!  Mark, Megan and Jonah are going to visit my Dad this coming Saturday.  Sadly, Dad has not been very nice to Mark about them coming for a visit.....I should not even mentioned this as it is upsetting to me, and to Mark as well, but we all just have to realize Dads age and TRY to under WHY he feels them coming is a burden to him.  Mark and my Dad have always been VERY close and this has been hard on Mark.  Dad tells Diane that Jonah is going to run around and break everything......
Mark has assured him that they will not stay long but they just want to SEE him and for him to meet his GreatGrandson Jonah!  I am in tears....I know well that they are not going to let Jonah run wild....

I think I had best get myself going....we have all kinds of irons in the fire today.

Have a great day, EVERYFRIEND 🥰🥰🥰

Jenny, hope your dad & the kids can figure out what works in MY house.... like him, it isn't "kid proof" anymore & makes me nervous to have little ones run through, partly because they may get hurt, but also don't want them to break things that have a special meaning to me. SO, I find it works to either meet them at any of the fast food places or their house... I provide the food either way! Not possible for them to visit the grands houses, but he can still be the host at any restaurant he chooses & a lot less stress on everyone. You will understand when it is YOUR GREAT GRANDS!  Tell your father I am on his side this time & YOU don't get upset about it. Hugs for all your caring, sometimes kind of hard to play peacemaker, isn't it?   ;)  :)

SHIRLEY, I appreciate your comments and suggestions to alleviate the issues of Mark and Family visiting my Dad.  They did suggest that they wanted to come by and pick him up and take he and Diane out for lunch, for the very reason you suggested, however my Dad has not been able to go out and eat for a very long time.  The only time he leaves the house now is to go to the doctor, so that plan was shot down, understandably. Yes, it is hard to be peacemaker for sure.  Diane called this morning and said that Dad did not know any about Mark and Family coming, even though he has been talked to several times about their visit.  She wanted me to talk to him about it when I called him today, and AS USUAL my Dad was normal sounding to me and said readily that's yes, Mark would be coming to visit him on this coming Saturday.  I mentioned that they did not plan to stay long at all, but they just wanted to SEE him and have him meet his GGrandson and have his picture taken so Jonah would have memories to see when he is older...I told him to please do not worry about them letting Jonah run all over the place as they will not let him do that, and Dad said "oh I know Mark won't let him do that"!  He never said or sounded negative at all!  Diane thinks Dad has Alzheimer's very bad, but he never sounds that way to me on the telephone when I talk to him daily.  Brian, #4 son as well as Dave and his entire family were all there to visit Dad in the last couple of months and they all assure me that Dad does not seem to have any signs of Alzheimer's.  Oh goodness, I am sorry I am SO wordy!

Enough from ME TODAY!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for January 15, 2020

Jenny, has anyone ever talked to Diane's doctor, could it be she is stressing and actually worrying out loud that that these things could happen with your dad? Not that she imagines, but actually believing he says or does things she worries about he MIGHT do? Maybe SHE is the one with the Alzheimer's starting to show? My sister-in-law was so convincing for a couple years I thought her eyes really were the problem, like she told me, but turned out her eyes were fine. I am guessing that she was losing the ability to read at one point, and explained not being able to see was easier that trying to explain she couldn't read the signs. Such a wicked disease. Seems strange that your kids and you don't witness what she tells you. Of the many friends that have dealt with someone they love going into the early stages, you can feel the terrible fear of what Alzheimers patients go through, the gaps in memory and then the total recall of their reality. My niece took her mother to a specialist that diagnosed and warned them of the many stages she would go through. Has your father or Diane both been evaluated by experts? My brother couldn't bring putting his wife into nursing care because of the lucid times, but taking care of her full time took a toll on his health and he ended up in the hospital several times the last year she was at home. My heart goes out to you, so difficult being miles apart.

We are supposed to get snow, ice & rain (not in that order)... tonight and tomorrow, so I went to KFC for a "bucket" & sides to hold me over. I get tired of my own cooking so panic at the thought I may be grounded a couple days! ;)

Wishing all a peaceful sleep, like Lloyd says, "hope to see you tomorrow". :hugs:

I don't usually post here but just had to comment that there is more than one type of disease like Alzheimer's. I know because my paternal grandfather had problems very similar that were caused by strokes and a maternal aunt had issues very similar to Alzheimer's that was caused by sugar diabetes.

" Dementia Doesn't Always Mean Alzheimer's. Dementia is any memory loss or  thinking problem caused by changes in your brain. Alzheimer's is just one type. Your memory also can be harmed by many other health issues, such as a stroke, Parkinson's disease, or a buildup of fluid on your brain."

My mother did have Alzheimer's and in the early stages, friends and some family members refused to believe it was more than simple occasional forgetfulness. Since Diane is the one living day by day with your father, she might have more of an idea. In any case, an exam for Alzheimer's and other memory issues would have the answers to any questions.

well I woke up and could not go back to sleep and was bothering Nancy so I got up and came in here and got on Line. well I had three different head knocks in 014. first one got hit in the face with the handle of a handy jack (they are man killers) it broke my nose in three defer-ant Places and the sertamin between my upper front teeth, second roiled my four wheeler and road it over three times,Landing on its left side and discharging me on the third time and rolled me about 150 feet away from it. I got up and walked over to it set it up on it's wheels. key was in the run position. no broken battery's or cable's pulled lose. would not start,so turned the key in kill position. after looking it over better, I turned the key back on and it reset the computer on it and started up ok. I thought we were both ok (wrong) I went home to bed that night thinking alright. about 1 AM I woke up could not make a word, got dressed and woke Nancy up she was mad wakening her up at that time. when she finely relised i was hurt and needed help. she got up dressed and took me to hospital. when we got in there the nurse took me in to catscann machine and put me in it and ran it. brought me back out and said he has got the worst head injury I have seen in my 30 years of nursing. we can not handle it here, they sent me to another bigger hospital.they driled a hole in the side of the forehead and another in the low spot behind my ear and put tubes in them, draining the blood off my brain for ten days.after done draining it they pus a titiaumin screw in the front hole. you can still feel it a bump under the skin. my wife says I am a accident looking for a place to happen. so I know first hand about darning blood off of the brain. I am going back to bed and try for some more ZZZ's after I go take a couple more pills to help me sleep. see you later this morning.

Yay ,no snow to deal with this morning. Waltzed with the shovel yesterday morning and then did a clean up of the winrow  with the snow blower last night.

Today we are back to the city for an x ray on Kyle's hip. While there we will exchange the pants he got for Christmas .

Lloyd, I think it is time for you to be kind to your body! I know we all did a lot of foolish things in our youth and need to take care of it.

Jenny, sorry you are going through all this..not easy when you live far away. Hope both Dianne and your Dad get a Dr appointment to figure all this out.

Better scoot..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, woke early and I like this better. Been up long enough to watch Dragnet, remember that with Joe Friday? Love those old shows that are on the ME channel.

LLOYD  you are too old for heart surgery? Like I am too old to do anything about my back? The last orthopedic that told me that I asked him if I fell and broke my hip would he shoot me like a horse. He turned around and walked away.

JENNY  wish I could get both sons and daughter together at Christmas time.  Of course not a good time of year for traveling and I know it will not happen. Since they moved to Arizna they love it so much neither one wants to travel anymore. They do go back to San Diego at Christmas to be with their sons. Like you we have had more gray days than sunny ones and it is getting to me. Lot of rain and damp days. We have a lady here who was baby sitting her great grandson and he would open her door and run into the hallway. Disturbed those who worried he would put the elevator button and end up downstairs, or even outside. This was at night when she was sleeping and he was supposed too. The ones under her apartment started complaining so manager stopped her from watching him here. Glad my little great grandson does not run around in here when my grandson brings him here. He always brings something to  keep him occupied. He will be 5 in July and even at their home he does not run around but he sure does when he is outside.

LLOYD  we all know you are ab accident wai ting to happen. Slow down and s tay off machines.

AMY  I'm right behind you. Glad you had no new snow to play in.

Have a good day.

Good Morning my friends.  I've been up for a while and I slept better last night.  We've had breakfast and I think Mickie is about to tell me it's time to take a walk.

My grandmother used to say "Bad things come in threes" and in my case, she's right.  After fixing a radiator leak and spark plugs, and then fixing a gas leak, I came home yesterday with a flat tire!  There now, that's three and I will not accept any more.  My son is coming this morning and we will deal with the flat tire.  I'm thinking if he gets it off we'll take it to WM and probably get two new tires.  That takes care of my zero balance on my WM credit card.

Now I'm off to walk Mickie....

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And stop by and share it with us!

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a couple of days.  I'm OK, just didn't seem to have anything to say.  Weather has been dreary here, too, and chilly but no snow and no storms so all is well and the sun is shining this morning.  That is always welcome.

I'm sorry, Jenny, that you have worries about your Dad.  Perhaps you can get a better idea from Mark after he visits your Dad.  He might be a little more objective than Dianne appears to be about whether your Dad has symptoms of Alzheimer's or not.

Have a great day, Everyone.

Good Afternoon from the
clear,  but cloudy rocky coast of
Maine.  (in the 30's,  dry under foot).

Jenny... so sorry that your Dad is
still facing issues that I
guess only Dianne can experience.

Being the sole caretaker for
and elderly person with dementia
issues is not a position that
anyone chooses to be in.  And
as it has been said,  these dementia
problems are different for everyone.

So hopefully your son will
be able to see how things are going
but if he is only going to be there
for a few minutes,  then it is going
to be very hard to tell,  unless
they catch him experiencing
difficulties.
Sure hate to see anyone going
through this.

Hope things get better soon.
Sandy

Good morning everyone. Went to bed early last night and woke too early. Here I sit with my coffee at 3:15 am. 33 now and cloudy again. I need some sunshine.

JANE  enough now, that is the third time you had to spend $$$ on your car. If things do come in 3 lets hope that is the end of it for a few years.

PHYLLIS  like you I would love a week of sunny days. I am not getting out for fresh air in this damp weather. No matter how I dress I get chilled in less than 5 minutes.

TOMEREADER1 thanks for telling us about Mary Ann. Hope it is nothing serious.

AMY  nothing as tasty as good fresh veggies.

Nothing new here, same old thing every day.

Have a good day.

Light snow over night but no dances today.

Need to take the van in for an oil change this morning, then home to get back at purging.

Jane, talk about things in 3's...my sister had an abscessed tooth...then her son got one and then David had one. His happened when he was in Wyoming I believe and luckily enough he did find a dentist and got some antibiotic.

Mary Ann, prayers coming your way.Hope you are feeling better soon as we miss your posts.

Lloyd, hope you also feel better.

Gloria, I think there may be a cat nap for you later today.

Phyliss ,great seeing your post..

Shirley and Joy hope all is well with you.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The coffee's on and Mickie had her pill.  We're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.

JENNY, I sure hope your son has good news to report about your Dad.  It's so hard when they are so far away.  My prayers are with you and your family always.

Today, I'll be taking Frankie for her appointment, then dropping her off at work, then lunch and then off to WM for two new tires.  That should do me for the next ten years for as much as I drive this car.

I'll be having two doggies for the next 2 or so days.  Frankie will be spending a couple of days with her dad and he and Cooper are not friends.  So Cooper will stay here.

The weather is above freezing...just barely.  It's 34 degrees right now and heading for a high of 39.  I can take that after what we've been having.  I know the winter weather isn't over but i'd take the rest of the winter like this with NO SNOW!

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And be sure to share It with all of us!  We need the company!

Hope you are out of the hospital fast, Mary Ann, my husband's doctor used to tell him that "he didn't want to send him to the hospital 'cause too many sick people in there". Make sure everyone uses the hand sani when they come in your room! Seriously, hugs and prayers for you.

Thanks for passing on the news, Tomereader.

Busy week again here, daughter flies into town for most of the whole week and she keeps everyone hopping! She has been a whirlwind all her life.

Gloria, I have given up on "normal" sleep pattern, just eat & sleep when I please. I also went to bed too early and after a short nap got up & fixed a peanut butter & grape jam sandwich, chunk of dill pickle, along with a cup of coffee & back to bed & sound asleep in less than 5 min. We didn't get the amount of snow predicted but freezing rain, inch of snow & kind of weather that chills to the bone.

Amy, I do miss the trips shopping with my husband, he always wanted me along to check fabric, he loved clothes & shopping. I also took my little car in for oil change this week, on the warmest day so they could wash it for me. They missed the crumbs in the pencil or phone holder by the gears (sporty on the floor), so plan to drag out my vac to suck them out before all done. I keep crackers for the birds that greet me at the different stores, they look so pitiful as they walk around the parking lots. Not seen any lately, these types don't migrate so wonder where they hide out during snow & ice, expect in the bushes in surrounding areas.

We are heading toward spring, not far off! I hear the 6:00 am plane coming in a little late... depending on the wind, now & then the planes come in over this house, still high enough I have to listen for them. The airport is 3-5 miles south & any time I pick someone up, just a short drive down the bypass. Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning, Jane... happy day to you!

VERY sad to read the news about MARY ANN. I checked Tom Tock's Face Book page today and there is not a new up date.  Sure hope MA is feeling better and will be home and posting soon.

Thank you to all that have commented about my Dad and about Alzheimer's in general.  I appreciate all your thought and experiences. It is a nasty disease, we all know that.

We worked ALL DAY again on going through things.....seems we are making very little progress, but I know we are.

Another dreary day here......seems we have had more of them than we normally do!  There is a possibility of snow here later on today.  They do not expect there to be much at all.  If there is not a measurable amount today we will break a record of having no measurable precipitation in the month of January EVER. The mountains are getting plenty, which is GREAT and where I prefer it to snow🤣🤣

OK....I am off to get something done....have a good day everyone.

Prayers and Good wishes for Mary Ann.

It literally rained all day yesterday!  Wasn't even going to get the mail but had to put the trash bin out for collection this morning and decided if I had to go to the end of the driveway, I might as well go to the mailbox.

Fortunately, overnight temps didn't go below freezing (as predictions warned they might) so was able to do the errands this morning that I'd planned to do yesterday.

Jenny, I didn't completely realize the extent of my Mother's health issues during Leadville days when my only contact was a phone call twice a week.  After we moved here and I was seeing her more regularly, I realized she had been giving me limited information.  Hope Mark will be able to give you a clearer picture about your Dad.

E-books that were on my "Hold" list have begun appearing in my Loans on a regular basis.  Sure cutting into my plans to sort/stack/shred old file contents.  ;)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

From Tom about MaryAnn!

* UPDATE *  Maryann had a small heart attack on Monday.  She will be in the hospital for a few more days.  Her troponin levels continue to go up. They are also concerned that her potassium and magnesium levels are at normal levels but they are giving her those through an IV in order to maintain those. She is exhausted and sleeping a lot.

I visited her this morning after they had her up for a short walk.  She was not feeling well and did not seem with it.  I just got off the phone with her and she sounded much better but did not remember me being there this morning even though we talked.

At the moment when she comes home, she will have two to four visits from a visiting PT specialist to work with her and make recommendations on how to make the home more efficient and safer for her.  We will also talk about long term in-home care options.

Didn't take long for the day to disappear. Managed to get two loads of laundry done and on the line, beautiful sunny weather it soon dried.....freeze dried at first though. Temp was -3 but soon got up past +3°.
Friends came at 4 and we traded off fabric we had for each other.and had a wee visit.

Shirley, my husband does not like shopping or trying on clothes but because of the distance we have to travel I gave him no choice but to try these pants on and they fit!! Just have to hem then but finally a pair that fit. Now having said he doesn't like to shop, he wants to head to the cheese factory and of course it will also be the chocolate factory and he knows me well enough that a trip to the quilt shop will be in order. I don't abuse the situation as I usually know what I am going for and will be quick about it. Then a feed of lovely fish and chips on the way home.

Better go get a quilt top ready to take I just may find a backing for it! :)

Thinking of Mary Ann and all who need prayers tonight!  It was a busy day for me.

My car now has two new tires and my bank account has a few less dollars.

We are entertaining an extra doggie for a couple of days while Frankie visits her father and takes care of some business.  He keeps us busy.  He has an excess of energy just like his "mother".

We're off to bed and I'm not sure where he will choose to sleep.  I'll leave the door open to the bedroom where he usually sleeps with Frankie and he can come up with us if he chooses.  We'll see what happens.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and an happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  Fish and chips sounds like a good dinner, AMY.  I haven't had that in a long time!

Mary Ann is much on my mind.  I hope she is doing better today and can come home from the hospital soon.

Grocery shopping day and I don't know yet if I'll try to go or not.  I'm getting a little tired of the same four walls.  I really would like to get out for awhile but I'll have to see how things go later on in the day.

Amy, it is so good that you can get out and do the things you enjoy.  Even in spite of those low temps.!  Makes me shiver to think about it.

Jane, good luck with no more expenses popping up for the car or anything else.  I have to get my car inspected and then pay the vehicle tax and new registration soon.  I just hope they don't find anything wrong with the car that needs to be fixed right away. It is 10 years old now and I cross my fingers every year when inspection time comes up.

Take care, Everyone.  Stay well.  Keep the good thought that Spring will be here soon.

Good morning everyone, 19 but feels like 13. all the cars are covered in frost this morning when I pulled up the shades. Looks like it will be a sunny one though. When I moved the curtains aside to pull up the shades I could feel the cold air from the windows. They may be doulble panes but the cold sure comes through them.

LLOYD  hope your stuffy head from yesterday cleared up.

AMY  I sure did get a catnap in yesterday. Whem the CNA left I laid on the couch and next thing I knew someone was leaving a message on the machine. It was 4:30 and my daughter calling to ‌d out where I was. We get on Skype every day at  4.  I slept for 2 hours and slept good last night, too.

JANE  my last car I had 20 years and only put new tires on once and a new battery twice. That was the only brand new one I ever had that was mine. Now there is where we are different, I would love to see some real snow, at least 12 inches of it. Of course I no longer have to clean it up anymore but would like to see the show we used to wake to on winter mornings.

SHIRLEY  I rather see snow than freezing rain any day. We have had some years here lately where every snow fell  with freezing rain after. That is worse than anything on the roads. Plows and sanders cannot keep up clearing the roads. My daughter lived in the landing path of the planes in San Diego. They would be so low they looked huge. Now in Arizona at times they get jets flying low through the canyons. An airbase not far from where they are. At first she said she could see the pilots but not that low now. More houses going up and they are not suppos3ed to go that low over places with houses and people there.

JENNY  I still love it when it snows, always enjoyed the look of it and now that I do not have to clean it or drive in it we aren't getting much at all.

SANDY  thanks for the update on Mary Ann. I don't have Facebook, tried it and didn' t like it.

AMY  the freeze dried clothes, I remember clothes freezing to the line before I even got a clothespin on it but boy they dried soft and smelling so good.

JANE  sorry you didn't want to talk to yourself this morning, just be careful answering yourself. ;) ;)

PHYLLIS  like you at times I feel like I need a change of scenery. My oldest son must know it because he will call and ask if I want to go shopping and I jump at the chance. Of course I am worn out for a few days after.

Have a good day.

Good Morning everyone. 28º and cloudy here today an saying high of 36º also saying tonight late and tomorrow supposed to be more snow and colder weather move in. the on the TV they quite a bit up to 5" or 6". I can do with out it.
I can just buy my Ice cream or get the mixing's and freeze some home made. I am going to go get a hair cut today before I have to start having to start paying dog tax. How do you all eat grape fruit. when I was hauling produce
the Mexican's that loaded my truck. thought me it is best with salt on it brings out the natural sweetness, I cut them in half and spoon out the segments. but they would peal them and walk around with a salt shaker and sprinkle and eat. try it if you do not already Know. healthier and better for you than sugar on them. have a great day.

I am pooped, but what a fun day we had. First stopping off at the cheese factory and picking up 7 blocks of seconds..the corner may not be square or tis lop sided...but the price is right.....almost 1/2 price for Old Sharpe.  Next was the chocolate factory after we had a nice country drive. I wish the price wasn't so good there but it is what it is and oh so delicious! Then on to another cheese factory where they have garlic and red pepper curd....tis so good!. You can guess where I went next picking up 3 panels, two with old trucks ,one red and one blue in front of a barn .Plus one old tractor (a row crop Lloyd) in front of a barn. Next stop, lunch and oh my was it good, mine was 2 pieces of fish...they must have been kin to Moby Dick in size!! I brought one piece and more than half the fries home......that will be supper tomorrow night. Kyle had his chicken fingers and we also brought some of that home. Great day for a drive, roads were clean  and not busy. Dogs went along with us and enjoyed the day out also. Now to go hid most of this chocolate and hope I forget where I put it. :)

This is Mary Ann's post from Norms B&T

i still here, but I may go to Rehab tomorrow.  They've done a lot of tests and I've been poked and proded until I wonder if I have any blood left.  I don't see why I had to wait age 95 to have the most serious illness of my life.

I don't have my computer glasses so I am not sure of my typing.

I'm getting along fine and the nurses and techs are wonderful.  The food is not.  Also I am not hungry and eat because I know I should.

I just wanted to check in and let you know I"m getting good care.

Marilyn, Tom says Kendrick sleeps on my bed a lot.  If I am in Rehab for a couple of weeks, I hope he'll recognize me.

Now I'm going to turn off the computer and try to sleep more .

I miss you all.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and concerns.

Talk is we may get to 70° on Sunday, to go along with the ice & frost this morning. One thing sure, don't get time to be bored with the weather!  Wishing all a peaceful sleep and happy tomorrow. Shirley :bestwishes:  :missyou:  :hello:

Good evening....I just read a message from Tom Tock and copied it to share here with everyone, but I see you have posted MARY ANN so everyone already is aware that you are feeling better and will be moving to rehab tomorrow.  It sure was great to see your message.  You have been missed and we are praying for a full recovery for you so you can be back home again very soon.

SHIRLEY we are to have great weather on Saturday and Sunday also.  Tonight we were out to dinner when our cell phones went off with a emergency warning telling about the imminent blizzard like
conditions. This storm came out of no where and really dumped right at the communing hour, of course.

AMY, nice to read that you and Kyle had a nice day.  I would love to go to that cheese factory with you!  Thanks for the cute buzzing bees!

GLORIA, you must have really been sleeping hard to not wake up in time for your daily call with Regina.  I hope it did not worry her too badly when you were late getting on line!  We had snow last night and then again tonight and I must admit it is indeed so pretty when the sun comes out and it sparkles like diamonds on the trees and grass!

LLOYD, as you may remember I lived in Arizona for over 25 years and had grapefruit nearly every day as we had a tree right there in our yard and I never ever used salt or sugar on them as they were so sweet already!  They were yummy!

Have a good rest of your evening, EVERYFRIEND🦋

Jenny

And now I'm going to bed.  I always wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and since SHIRLEY already took my line and wished you that, I'm going to also wish you good health as the days and years pass.  Good Night my friends!

Good morning everyone, 23 and feels like 15, must be windy out. Another day to stay inside. Think I will be happy when April and May get here this year. Oh well nature will be what it is, right? Maybe we will get the snow we have missed this month in April, happened before with an 8" snow in May.

LLOYD  I think 35 would feel warm about now. I like the pimk grapefruit with no sugar or salt. Too much salt is not good either.

AMY  YOU CAN KEEP MOST OF THE CHEESE UNLESS YOU ARE MAKING MAC AND CHEESE, oops sorry about the caps. Let me hide the chocolate for you, then you will never find it. I would eat it all, yummy. ;) Nah I would leave half fo you.

MARY ANN  so good to see your post. Worried about you when we heard you were in the hospital because of a heart attack. We all miss you. Prayers and hugs for you.

CALLIE  hello and hope you sre doing good, too.

SHIRLEY  my doctor is worried about my weight and wants me to eat more. Heck I can not stand on my feet to cook. I dislike TV dinners with all the sodium and all the preservatives. Wish I could trust the CNA's I have been getting to cook for me. Then again I eat a little and am full.

JENNY  I had the computer on sleep so wasn't on when she tried on
Skype so she called, I did not hear  the phone ring but I hear d her leaving a message on the machine. I really was sound asleep. This was another morning of waking early so hope I don't fall asleep again this afternoon. The CNA I was supposed to have yesterday called into the office and could not make it. Today I have one coming that I had before and I like her.

JANE  I am surprised I have lived all these years whe no one in my family seemd to pass 69 years old. Hope you slept great last night.

Good Morning Everyone,  from
the still dry underfoot, but
cold and clear Rocky Coast
of Maine...

Jenny...
I have lost track of why
you are cleaning out your
house.   Did I read somewhere
that you are getting
ready to move,  and that is
why you are cleaning out?

Are you hoping to be closer
to Michelle and the boys to
be  more of a help to them
during her illness?

How many years have you
lived in the house you are
now in?

Best wishes doing the
difficult tasks involved
with digging up your life
and moving on   (so to speak)..

Hopefully you will find a place
that you and your husband are
comfortable with and where you
can start to reclutter your home
again...    :crazy2:

Hope you all can maintain a good
sense of humor.... you will need it.
As moving is considered one of the
top stressors that we humans
imbibe in..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here, too, but no wind so it feels a bit warmer than yesterday so far.  Both doggies have been out and had a snack.  Mickie had her pill and we're waiting for the boinger.  Cooper decided to sleep with us last night and he chose to sleep outside my one leg.  Mickie was on the other side of it so my leg was in place for the night.  We all woke up at 5:30 and I decided we might as well get up.

I think Cooper will be happy to see his "mother" return today.  And I think my daughter will be arriving from Maryland sometime this evening.  Looks like another busy weekend is shaping up.

I hope Mary Ann is improved today and that she keeps improving!  She's been my inspiration all these years.  As are all of you.  I can't give up on anything when you all keep on.

Our boinger will be going off any minute and it will be time for breakfast so....

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

And hurry back to share the details!  We're a nosy bunch!

So glad to hear from Mary Ann yesterday.  I have missed her posts.

Chilly and cloudy today with rain predicted.  I wasn't able to make it to the grocery store with David yesterday....maybe next time.

Take care, All.

Good morning.  I am so happy to see the message from Mary Ann this morning.  Mary Ann,  hope you get to the rehab place and you won't be there that long.  They work hard to get you back home again.  I know you will be a very cooperative patient. Quick healing thoughts coming your way.

I was up early, had breakfast and was planning on reading for a while.  Sat back in the recliner and it wasn't long before I was asleep and slept for almost 2 hours.  Now it is almost lunch time.

I do feel better today, so might even get a few chores accomplished.

Amy, I love cheese, and love to go to a cheese shop.  There is a nice grocery store in our area called Wegman's  and they advertise having  hundreds of all different kinds of cheese.  Such a big choice all the time.

Have a pleasant day.

Joy

Good Morning,

Sunny and warmer in central Oklahoma.  I've been out to fill a suet feeder and, if it were 15º warmer, I would have stayed on the patio for a while.

A skinny squirrel has been leaping from the ground to the top of the baffle and getting into the bird feeder...again  :tickedoff:.  I "greased" the baffle and pole with petroleum jelly.  Probably won't keep S.S. off but may discourage him/her for a while.

A friend took me OTL yesterday.  We went to Chicken Salad Chick, a new restaurant in town.  I thought it was delicious and will certainly go back.  They serve large scoops of a variety of chicken salads and a couple of pimiento cheese choices.  Sides are scoops of various fruit salads, mac/cheese - and small bowls of soup.  Crackers, a dill pickle slice and a cookie come with the meal.

Now have a load of laundry in and another file to be sorted/shredded is staring at me from the work table.

"Turn around, Callie, and Get Busy!"  :knuppel2:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Oh, yum, Callie, that sounds like worth the drive from my house to yours!  I'm going to pick up Taco Bell & bring home... have a frig full & nothing sounds good.  :tissue:

I have a robin that stops to chatter to me every time I go out, like an old friend. Haven't had any bird friends since the cats adopted us long ago. Must try to find a place to feed robins  that cats & other critters won't invade. Cats are all outside getting their sunshine vitamins. I have tons of laundry to do but not in the mood, been going through a stack of papers to dig out any needed for tax man.  :tickedoff: Lazy day but need to get myself in gear.

A Good Friday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

SANDY, I loved your post!  I can well understand why you might be confused as to why we are cleaning out our home🤣🤣😘, so are we!  No, truth is, we did put money down on a brand new senior building with hopes of ridding ourselves of all of this "stuff" we have collected or have been given over the years!  However, after Michele's last scare of 13 new tumors, we felt it was not good for us to move further away from the family, although it was only 20 minutes further.  We currently live about that distance from them now, but it is a straight shot to them.

After thinking about how we were going to be ready to make that move or any move, we knew we had to get things in line around here, hence the reason for the continued clean out.  I am a very organized hoarder of sorts!  My home does not look cluttered, but truth is I just do a good job of hiding it!  We are far from being done, but we are doing our best to keep on doing it until we feel we have things organized enough in case, as you said, we do find that place or a move is necessary.  I am like many others, in that I do have a lot of nice things that no one in our family are interested in taking. I have all of the family momentous on both sides, and it is very hard to just send it down the road, but it appears that is what I am going to have to do.  I wish I had the ability to take a devil may care attitude and JUST DO IT!  It would sure make my life easier and my heart a lot less stressed!

We have lived in this home for 15 years and we came here from having 2 homes.  We did get rid of a lot of duplicate items, but clearly not enough!  Thank you for asking and I am sorry I have been so "wordy" in explaining my case!  Oh and, boy are you right about keeping a sense of humor😘. Also, the goal would be to not have any extra room to start cluttering all over again!  IF we stay in this home, it is time to do a big renovation project and that is enough to send me into a BIG panic!

JANE, I had to chuckle at having one dog on one side of your and another on the other.  I do that every night with just my Smokey Cat and then when the "Doodles" are her I am in your shoes!  Of course we do not want to move and interrupt their sleep, so there we just hold real still! Hahha

Have a good rest of your day! 🦋

Jenny

Thanks Jenny...
Good luck in being able to
figure this all out.

I think that you are wise
to take this time now to
get this dastardly job done
before you are put on a
short timeline  to get up
and go.

Best wishes in surviving
this huge change in your life.

Upodate from Tom Tock;

*** UPDATE *** AMA is doing better today but her Troponin, magnesium and potassium levels have not settled down despite medication. We hope tomorrow she will be moved to another facility (Pilgrim Manor or Marywood) to begin rehab to increase the odds of a successful homecoming. This time will help us access what her needs for home care will be and then find time to staff up for it. Jan has been incredibly helpful with this.

AMA is in pretty good spirits, but they are concerned that she still ends up breathing hard with minimal exertion, such as talking with us and a nurse at the same time. Her heart rate is running 110-115 at rest at times.

So continue to pray for peace for AMA and wisdom for the doctors and for Tom and Jan as decisions have to be made about what we are capable of doing ourselves and with staffing at home for AMA.

Mary Ann, I know you are one smart cookie and will know what is best for you. Hope nobody tries to push or change your mind (I'm sure your family won't do that), but "well meaning" people that don't know how tough you are, might. Could be they need to just get your meds straightened out. I am pulling for you. FYI, my heart rate has been that high for years & "that's just how it is".  Thanks for passing on the update, Amy.

Jenny, sorry to read Michele has more tumors showing up. Hugs & prayers. I keep starting that cleaning out process but just as I get into it "something" comes up & here's that pile of stuff to push out of the way & hide, when I start over it is even a worse mess!
