SUNSHINE
Brenda (Sept2001)

When I woke up this morning
I found a ray of light
Shining through my window
To chase away the night...

I tried to wrap it up to send
The warmth and light to you...
But boxes don't hold sunshine
So this wish will have to do:

May the sun shine on your morning
And brighten every day,
May warmth and sunshine fill your life
And chase your cares away!

Go the Distance
Michael Bolton

I have often dreamed of a far off place
Where a hero's welcome would be waiting for me
Where the crowds would cheer, when they see my face
And a voice keeps saying this is where I'm meant to be

I'll be there someday, I can go the distance
I will find my way if I can be strong
I know every mile would be worth my while
When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong

Down an unknown road to embrace my fate
Though that road may wander, it will lead me to you
And a thousand years would be worth the wait
It might take a lifetime but somehow I'll see it through

And I won't look back, I can go the distance
And I'll stay on track, no I won't accept defeat
It's an uphill slope
But I won't loose hope, 'till I go the distance
And my journey is complete, oh yeah

But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part
For a hero's strength is measured by his heart, oh

Like a shooting star, I will go the distance
I will search the world, I will face its harms
I don't care how far, I can go the distance
'Till I find my hero's welcome waiting in your arms

I will search the world, I will face its harms
'Till I find my hero's welcome waiting in your arms

I've washed the spiders off the front of the house & watered all the "containers" (including trug) and now need to go vac the pool so those chores are done for the holiday week end. Will put up the flag first. Not too windy (for Kansas) and 78° & we're back to the near 100s... YUCK! May be enough lettuce & spinach in the trug for one more meal, but the heat fried those greens in June instead of August as expected. I will get more seed to plant in the early fall.

Peter, I will save this walk for after I clean the pool and need to sit. Thank you!

Bubble, love the graphics & all the text but my fav really is the one to "never give up".  I think my kids would tell you that on my death bed I will be saying, "this is something new, won't it be fun?"....... I get that attitude from my mother... who loved to tell that one of her sons commented about her... "Mom, you could look down into a sewer and see something pretty"....  both he & I believed her.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a hot one here, too.  It's already 82º and heading for a high of 96!  I wear a sweater in the house to keep warm from the A/C and take it off to sit out on the porch and get warmed up!

Today is a quiet one.  The kids and their daddy went on a holiday weekend with his parents and Ali stayed home to take her flowers to market tomorrow.  My SIL and I will go with her.  Cindy will be making her monthly trip to Dallas tomorrow in connection with her job and to keep another appt.

Bubble, thanks for the nice cleaning job you did on the shop and for all the new decorations.  I love it!

ROLEy, THE WALKS ARE BACK AND THEY'RE GREAT!  Thank you!

On with my day!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Neighbour called last night to say one out of the four eggs has hatched in the nest. Sure hope nothing finds them as they are in a nest in a low bush.

Lightning & thunder right now, nothing severe so a welcome sight & sound. We are going to have our family gathering Sunday evening, lots of fireworks already stacked up. I don't stay around for that, I've seen & done my share over the years. One of the families has Covid so will be staying home, just a block away from where the party will be so talk of taking some of the fireworks around so the youngest can watch. His sister didn't catch it so has been staying with both sets of gr-parents all week. Everyone was vacced & boosted but had traveled, just too many versions to miss them all.

Amy, hope you had a great Canada Day yesterday. Fireworks were loud all day yesterday & still plenty more to scare the critters the next few days around here. Better eat & see if I can get a few more zzzzzzzzzzs in before starting the day. Tiger was determined I got up to pour her bowl of milk about 5:00 am, she is sleeping on the chair next to me.

Good morning everyone. Still worn out from the visit for the eye exam. Last year I told him about the film I GET AT TIMES IM MY RIGHT EYE, HE ASKED IF i still get it and  saID YES. That was the longest exam I ever had more than 2 hours. He used all all those machines and then started the old the old way starting with the drops in my eyes. Mike stayed in the car instead of coming in where it was cooler but started getting worried and went into the office and saw wha going on. Have a script for eye drops and I cannot do that but CNA can ror the 5 days she is here-OK, have to go back in 4 months

Then I heard from Yvette -she has what her doc said looks like pneumonia. Last time she had that it was double and was in the hospitle
Better get back to bed,Still dizzy from those drops,

Good morning everyone. We're still at our low of 65 and having a welcomed steady rain which should help with those 399 fires the state has presently. Last week, the highs were all in the nineties, so today's high of 82 will be welcome. All fireworks have been banned, and gatherings are mostly canceled for the fourth due to heavy smoke from the  fires still burning.

Good Morning!  Good Noon!  And Good Afternoon!  When I got home from the Farmers Market I had stuff we bought to put away and then I had to take a shower.  I was sweating up the gazoo because it was already in the mid 90s!  Then when Jim got home from helping Ali shut down we got to talking about a breakfast that he makes and I've been looking on line for the xtra large cupcake tins he uses so I can make them when I get home.  I found some but when he looked he found some locally for about half as much as they were on line.  So we did a shopping trip and filled in some holes besides.

Cindy just walked in the door from her trip to Dallas so everyone is home safe except the kids are at the lake with their OTHER grandparents!  We won't see them now until Tuesday.

Now I have to sign off because Cindy is going to help me with the flower pictures.  I'll be back when I can.

I'm eager to see the flower photos, Jane. Sorry to hear about Yvette's latest health woe, Gloria.

Daughter & I talked a "mile a minute" all afternoon. This is a short trip for her & her husband..... they come to town every 4th of July & the oldest son & youngest daughter live here so it really is a happy time. While we were sitting at the table talking she mentioned one of the "kids" that I remember well, had posted the neatest Paul Harvey quote on their class site.... she started reading it to me & I asked her to send it e-mail so I could share it with y'all.  Hope all of you enjoyed Paul Harvey back in the day.....

PAUL HARVEY'S LETTER TO HIS GRANDCHILDREN
We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches.. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy / girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it... And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he/she is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.
May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I checked out the pictures and I thanked you, BUBBLE, for posting them and I also added a bit of info about the growing and sales!  Ali is such a sweetheart and she works very hard with her two kids, hubby and flowers!

Jim is already gone to look after their doggies and will be back pretty soon for breakfast.  It's going to be a bit quiet around her because that family is spending the weekend with Ali's in-laws.  No kiddies here to play with!

I guess I'll go have my breakfast.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S. I'm also going back and take ROLEY/PETER's walk!  Thank you for doing that.  I truly enjoy them!

Glad you enjoyed Paul Harvey, Amy!

Peter, that was a wonderful video. We didn't do very much traveling around when there in 1954-1957. Gas was still rationed and it took us most of that time to even learn how to ride the buses & trains! The history all around is fascinating to me. Thanks so much for the link. Hope you are stronger every day and will be able to get out in the countryside yourself.  Tisie/Shirley

Good Afternoon.  This has been a tough week!  First, the dryer kept "telling me" the vent was clogged and the cord broke on two of five blinds on the back windows so I have had to tape big garbage bags over the bottom half at night.  I made appointments to have both repaired but had to reschedule because...
Last Sunday I had swelling and sharp pain in my right foot that kept me in the recliner mainly because I could not get in to see either my doctor (or anyone else in the clinic) or the podiatrist until later in July.  >:(  (Most drop-in clinics here don't have labs on site and I thought I might need blood work)  so decided to do the RICE treatment.

Pain went away by Wednesday and, although the foot is still puffy - I've been able to walk "normally"(which isn't an accurate word because of the braces I have to wear).  Have gotten dryer vent cleaned and rescheduled blind cord replacements (am doing all 5 "just in case").  Have also caught up on Domestic Duties.

Then got some worrisome family news that I can't talk about, yet.

Roley,  I love ancient British history and thoroughly enjoyed my two tours - one general European tour with 3 days in London during which I went to Dover Castle and the other that actually started in Ireland, crossed to a bit of Wales, went up the west side of Scotland from Liverpool to Inverness - then to Harrogate, Salisbury and London with stops in between.
I particularly enjoyed the cathedrals and museums - especially when we had a free afternoon and I coud go on my own and take my time looking at details.
Wish I'd had an opportunity to tour the southern part but am enjoying your videos very much.  Thank you for sharing.

Won't try to respond to everyone's post but am reading them all.  Thank goodness for Tablet on which I have favorite webcams, e-books and websites...except for Facebook, which I use mostly for keeping up with The Grands.  ;

Stay cool, safe and healthy, Everyfriend.

Like the old HeeHaw song says: If it ain't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! So we all seem to be having some of "that kind of luck".  Here's my story: Last Sunday morn woke up with a black eye. No reason I could think of then, but texted pic to my daughter, who said I had to see the doctor so I make an appt. (she'll see me Wednesday) she checked me out and said nothing to worry about. I recalled while I was there I had an awful coughing spell during Sat. night, and she said yes, that would cause it. Daughter was happy (that I didn't have a concussion from a fall that I couldn't remember (ha ha)So, everything's good until Thursday evening when I go to take the recycle bin out for next day's pickup.  Coming back in from the gate, which I have done probably 50,000 times in 59 years here, I tripped on the 2" concrete patio stepup, fell, split my eyebrow open, skinned both knees.  Call my neighbor friend to come right over as I was bleeding badly from that eyebrow laceration, and we tried and finally got it stopped.  Again protective Daughter wanted neighbor to take me to emergency room. I've had experience with ER's and wanted no part of that at 10 PM.  Next morn, huge hematoma on 1 knee, a genuine black eye, so I agreed to have neighbor take me to E.R. They did CT Scan on my head, the orbit in the cheekbone, and Xray of left knee.  Spent four hours waiting various times, first to see a doc, then to get scans done, then to get results from scans.  No head fracture, no brain bleed, no busted knee, no cracked orbit checked out just fine and sent me on my way. Made it four years + one month since I had fallen in my living room and busted my humerus and left wrist.  I think I need to buy BubbleWrap by the roll and wrap myself up securely before I attempt anything.  Bah, humbug on getting old and injuring yourself which never happened when I was young!

Post by: Shirley on July 03, 2022, 11:01:15 PM
Well, girls, I'll say a prayer for all the boo-boos & bad luck. I was doing pretty good until I went out to water the trug & some little trees in pots while ago... and came back inside itching all over again. Darn, they feel like chigger bites but don't think that's what they are. Not fleas, haven't seen any kind of biting critters.

Tome, when I went to the ER, actually not ER as such, my doc sent me to the hospital near to have an X-ray of my chest because I thought I might have pneumonia, had it before & had been coughing for quite a while. (This was last year). Usually he has his own X-ray person do it & I questioned his reason for sending me someplace else, "can't you just LISTEN to my chest?"  So I went & when I mentioned having passed out & slid down to the floor & found myself just looking at the ceiling ... they threw a fit & wanted me to go across the street to another part of the hospital/chain to get my head checked. I flat said, "NO"... and had to sign a paper that I took full responsibility for not going~~ Told 'em I would know if my head hurt, I must have just slid off the bar stool had been sitting on. Anyway, they'll play **** getting me to go again! No pneumonia.. either. Glad you checked out okay.

Callie, so sorry about the foot hurting, seems like they could check you sooner than that!  What is it, do you know?  My right foot has been swollen for weeks, one of the reasons I went to see MY doc last time. When you have a heart problem it's easier to blame everything on that BUT I asked him if "only one foot would be swollen if heart"... and did not get an answer. I did end up getting an appointment with the same cardiologist that my son uses but not until July 20. My old one retired at the end of last year & I didn't want the one recommended, I have my reasons!  Extra prayer for that "worrisome family news". (((hugs)))

Amy, one more question about the trug garden.... should it be watered more than once a day?  Last evening I watered because the lettuce & spinach looked like it was trying to come out if the "chrisp" stage it went into one super hot day. I water every day. It looked like I could have a nice salad tonight so I headed out to pick as soon as I got home the the family gathering, bowl in hand. Stopped in my tracks, it was chrisp again. I watered again in hopes it looks better in the morning, no sign of let up of this heat. So far I've only had 2 small salads, gave some to my son & wife & sent some to CO with the boys... and gave a bowl full to the neighbor that gives me eggs all the time. Crazy summer, sure didn't grow like last year & is/was new dirt. :-[

I'm going to grab a bite to eat & go to bed. Been a super long day & I worked hard!

Good night, Janie... and all. Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Patricia, my blood pressure is fine, under control with meds, but it would have shown up much better if I hadn't had to wait for so long.  The E.R. I went to is in the hospital.  My doc's office is in Bldg.#3.  It's really a huge medical complex.  I know a lot of you familiar with Dallas have probably heard of Presbyterian Hospital, which now goes by the name Texas Health. Just to indicate how busy their ER is, the CT Scan guy said he had run 200 CT's in one day. That seems a bunch to me, but I guess when they think you need one (maybe) it's best to find out if you have bleeding on the brain, or busted bones in your leg, etc. (that was just regular Xray).  All of the people I dealt with there were friendly, professional, helpful with great attitudes. Awhile back, the Critical Care folks were building a lot of neighborhood CC offices. After many people locally had really bad experience with being charged gigantic bills for something simple like a shot, they got bad publicity and one-by-one they closed up.  There were two or three within 2-3 miles from me, and would have been handier to go to, rather than the hospital proper.
Patricia, my balance is not always the greatest because of an inner ear problem, but this accident wasn't balance, just being slew-footed. Your old standard trip-and-fall.  It could have been a lot worse.  I have been catching heck from daughter and two neighbors for not having my cell phone on me. (I tell them I will not be tied to that phone..basically I hate it)
In the ER waiting room, everyone was staring down at their phones, playing videos or live conversations at decibels I don't even use on my stereo, plus the various annoying ring-tones.  Oh, well, I have griped enough about everything except the world conditions, and I don't think I'm up to that just yet.  We are supposed to be in the 100 degree plus for most of next week, with no real chance for cooling or rain. So will just sit in the A/C, read and binge movies and try not to fall over the furniture!!
My best to all who are having real serious health problems. As I said Grace today, I asked for blessings for "all my Seniors & Friends". (I did manage to make me a fairly tasty, nutritious supper - that's why I was asking blessings during Grace instead of regular prayer time). I love you all, and my life is richer from being able to read all the posts here. It's like having a "girl-friend" party right here in the living room!

Good morning..

Happy 4th to you..

Love these cooler temps!! C/a off, windows open..nice! Playing catch up today then finish a binding and that should be the day.

Shirley, I water only once a day and not always each day. Water thoroughly so the water drains out the bottom. If you can get grass clippings and put between the rows that would help hold in the moisture..or try some peat moss.

Tome...we go from needing soothers to cell phones :2funny:   I dislike my phone but know it is a life line for help if need be. Hope you're feeling better today..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, everyone, nothing is new here other than my internet slows down and is intermittent, but all you hear is, "They're aware of the issue, and they're working on it." Everyone seems to be having issues as I was on hold for one hour and forty-six minutes. I almost missed their answering as I had the phone set on speaker and was playing Mahjong on my Kindle.

Joanne, thanks for answering me. I guess we're just wearing out these bodies one way or the other.

I hope everyone has a nice holiday and a safe one!

The flag is in, fireworks winding down... they have been amazing (that word gets over used but NOT IN THIS CASE).  I stopped to watch as I gathered up the branches & brush the workers cut down last Monday, they did take one large bundle with them to dump but I said I could get the rest out. So tired I'm about cross eyed. Will have a bite to eat & go to bed. I do feel sorry for all the wildlife & pets that don't understand and are afraid.

Wishing all sweet dreams, kind thoughts and all problems solved tomorrow. So what would we talk about?  Janie, I'm going to snag that photo of you & tell everyone it's me (not that they will believe me), but you look like how I wish I looked!  On that note I am heading to bed. God Bless Every One of You and all the family members YOU love and we love to hear about.

Frustrated as I get with these computers, gotta love 'em 'cause they brought us together.... and Big Thanks to our buddy in the background that keeps us going plus his helpers that never get enough credit for the time they spend keeping us in line.

Sure nuff, Patricia..... and I really am going to eat a bite & go to bed!  Was reading the obits in the newspapers where a lot of relatives live and where I grew up. A classmate died, we had a very large high school class, 7 elementary schools dumped into a single building that held from 8th thru Senior year of high school. I think I knew everyone in my graduating class of 1953, but some I hadn't seen since then. You can turn out the lights!

I am back from the clinic. My symptoms  and fatigue of the last few days explained: the Corona virus found me!
I don't know how, since I haven't been out of the house for so long and did not have visitors or see anyone.
Illy and Aviv  test almost daily because of work and school rules, and they are negative.

Well it is a one week  isolation, not that it will change anything.
I don't feel sick, just tired.

Bubble - So sorry you've contracted Covid!!    They say this latest variant, that has recently started up here in California, will end up getting to all of us eventually.   Our local health department head announced yesterday, that apparently all the shots and boosters we've had, are worthless against this particular one, but do give us some level of protection.
Hope you feel better soon.

Our day was amazing!Didn't start out on a good note though..as we went to pull out onto the road I noticed  the kit.....the two little critters I saw last week but couldn't get a good look are kits....now down to one :( Came back in and got a shovel and got him off the road..

Met up with Bri and she gave us 24 23 now containers of delicious raspberries. We surprised her with a tea wagon.

Now to sit and relax..for a bit then freeze some of the raspberries.

Bubble, so sorry to hear covid visited you. Take it easy and get lots of rest.

It's been a long and busy day!  We did lots and in between I did some knitting and playing with doggies.  The kids didn't come over today because Emma had a dr. appt.  Jim went and stayed with a sleeping Mikey while Ali took Emma.

We had a repair man here to fix the dryer and then a cleaning lady (or 2) to clean the house and we had to stay out of their way!  Now we're all ready for bed.

Loved the walk for today!  Thank you Roley/Peter!

I'm off to get myself ready for bed, read a couple chapters of my book and then get some sleep.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Be safe. Be happy!

Got to make this short. I just finished watching the videos of the castles so late to bed for me!  Thanks, Peter, I have thoroughly enjoyed the walks & am going to try to send the links to a friend my age that has never been to England but fascinated by the history & devours the information and walks.  The summer heat has been so awful this year it really does help to have these adventures to make one feel like we've actually been outside. So happy to have you back.

It seems like the early part of the day was long ago, I did get out to clean the pool and water flowers before it got too hot, the rest of the day a blur of miserable heat.

Bubble, so sorry Covid found you.  Do hope it doesn't last long or hit hard. I don't think anyone will get by without one version or another and believe more & more after effects will be discovered as time passes. (((hugs)))

Sweet dreams and God Bless each and every one.

I'm going to shut this thing down for the day.  It's been another busy one.  The kids were over for a while and I went to Sams' Club with my SIL and Granddaughter Ali.  And, low and behold, I found some of the Amish cheese that is made in PA and that we all love.  We bought some and cut it up and nibbled as soon as we got back.

Tomorrow, Cindy goes to give blood and I'm going with her and if she feels OK after, we're making a quick stop at WM to get some stuff that Sams didn't have and then back home for her to do her home office stuff!  I'll be around the house and I don't know if the kids will show up or not.  We shall see!

We had a hummingbird at the feeder today.  It was beautiful!  And we just happened to be outside at the right time.  We're not spending a lot of time outside this week.  The high today was 106 and it's going to be over 100 all week!  Thank goodness for A/C!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may you have a beautiful day!

Amy, my poor lettuce is about to be pinched back to the trunk. I picked enough off yesterday for a little bowl of wilted salad last night, but it was not the tender-melt in your mouth stuff like a couple weeks ago!

Went to bed knowing I HAD to get that big bowl of roast ground & in the freezer this morning so woke up before 4:00am & got with the job. All done, bagged for the freezer & all bowls & tools washed up. Yielded 7 ZipLoc freezer quart bags full. Got that Kitchen Aid grinder warm! Lots easier than the old iron hand grinders. My kids & grands all but fight over it & so far nobody has come up with anything quite like it, but nobody wants the job of making it.

Going to have breakfast & go back to bed, or maybe not. Heat advisory & in the 80s now. I opened the sliding door beside me & it is steamy. We've had sprinkles but not enough so need to go turn the system on.

I've got a friend staying with me while other friends are in town and at the fairgrounds, all fire refugees and their various animals.

I 've run around town the last few days looking at phones, checking on my new glasses, buying groceries, picking up and sending packages and going with friends to feed and water animals at the fairgrounds.

Still smoky and hot over two million acres were burnt and 59 new fires from last Friday and the weekend. Since this is the place everyone retreats to, we are full of people, and the fairgrounds are full of pets and animals. The closest of 468 fires is within 33 miles of us, and more than one fire has combined with others. I never thought I'd wish for winter, but I do.

Patricia, we feel hot enough to think it's fire out there, but am sure glad it isn't. The fear of being over run with flames just sent shivers all over my body. Special prayers for you & all in danger. I'm watching over this little robin like one of my own kids, how it is panting so hard in the heat. Guess it's sibling flew the nest during the night, hope it made it, robins are usually the last to bed & first up in the mornings, but that one may have been kicked out by the one left in the nest! It is standing on the side of the nest right now, but I did see one of the parents bring it a bug while ago. Just think of all the birds & wildlife being trapped by those fires. Breaks my heart.

Need to get a nap.... Y'all take care today. Love ya.   Shirley/Tisie

Time to eat but so far today I have done nothing at a normal time!  Wanted to tell you, Peter/Roley, that I just talked to my friend that I sent your last link to and she was so impressed with it. I will send all you post to her after this. We are the same age (87) but she doesn't like to travel so thoroughly enjoyed the walk. She does those long walks by herself and was amazed "the bald guy" could walk AND talk! So thanks from Bonnie.

I am going to send Bubble a couple photos of the robin kids in hopes she is up to posting. I am hearing awful things about the latest variant of Covid so hope Bubble didn't get that. My gr-daughter & family that had it before the 4th (so didn't get to be with us) said they never felt very bad.

Jane, we do NOT have this heat ALL the time in OK & KS... honest. Nice you are training the next generation of canners. I am off to the kitchen to throw together the recipe Andy's wife brought to the 4th gathering. SO yummy everyone there had a fit over it. You can Google (Taste of Home) Pineapple Pretzle Fluff, I got all ingredients at WIalmart yesterday & probably wouldn't have tasted if I'd only heard the name.... but is is the best new recipe I've eaten for years. My daughter already made it & said next time she will put in pecans, so I'll do that this time.

Where's Gloria?  Also worried about Jenny, such a heart breaking time for her.

God Bless Everyone who needs his blessings right now!  Seems like lots of people do!

Ali did very well with the Strawberry jam.  She has 8 jars finished, cleaned up and labeled.  And when they left, Emma had the jar of leftovers in her hand with directions to put it in the fridge when she got home and don't eat it until breakfast tomorrow.  She's supposed to let me know if she liked it.  She stood on a stool and helped crush the berries.

I'm off to the haystack.  It's been a hot, busy day and I'm tired.  I'll get ready, get in and read a chapter or two of my book and then drift off into nothingness!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

P.S.  SHIRLEY, I saw that recipe and passed it by.  Maybe I'll go back and take a second look!

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for July 1, 2022
Post by: Shirley on July 08, 2022, 09:46:30 AM
Amy, first of all I learned to use the medium size grinder wheel or it gets gummy if too fine... I use Miracle Whip because is has a little kick compared with real mayo. Sweet pickle relish out of a commercial jar (I don't can my own) so plenty pickle juice, chopped celery, onion & when that is blended good, a couple chopped hard boiled eggs. Lots of protein & flavor. The kids have discovered it makes a great "dip" for those special crackers they like.

Thanks for the link & for posting, Bubble, great job! I explained all about the robins over in Photos (more than anyone cared to read, probably). No babies to watch this morning so on with the work. I am going to give that "Fluff" recipe a taste test as soon as I eat breakfast. My tummy has no clue what should be eaten any time of day!!!

Another HOT day so have been out to water the trug & potted plants, have sprinklers going in front & will have to add water to the pool when sprinklers are done. That wind & heat just sucks the water out. The well water isn't bad, just needs the chlorine tablets to keep the pool that pretty blue. Those tablets have tripled the price this year & the places I used to buy them (like Walmart) don't have any in stock.!

Hi, Patricia, you snuck in. Is this extremely early for fire season? Doesn't seem possible we have the worst part of dry, hot summer still to come here.

We just had a short sprinkle here and I think my daughter was dancing!  She said it hardly ever rains here!  Everything looks wet out there for the moment!

I tasted the jam on my bagel this morning and she did a good job!  I think it's nice when the first try goes over well.  It gives them incentive.  I bought her a Ball Blue Book yesterday and she spent some time her shuffling through it with several stops on the way.  I think she's hooked!

SHIRLEY, I commented on the birdies over in the photo section.  Loved it!

Better go get something done!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not not as good as tomorrow!

A good Friday morning HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I have just finished reading MANY posts from all of you.  My head is spinning as I try to remember everything I have read.  Some posts are just so delightful and others have me nearly in tears as I commensurate along with you🦋🦋

BUBBLE, I am sorry the Covid bug found it's way to you😩. I hope you are feeling much better very soon.  Sadly there are SO MANY cases around now😩😩 We know many personally that have it and are trying our best to not be one of them.

JANE and SHIRLEY.....the pictures that BUBBLE posted for you both are delightful.....

ROLEY, I have not been able to watch every video you shared with us, but I WILL at some point.  They are wonderful and I thank you for sharing them.

Paul Harvey's story is so spot on‼️  I agree with every point, but sadly many if not most of his comments are just not part of this latest generation 😩😩😡. I remember so well his "HELLO, AMERICANS!" as well as his closing statement, "Now you know....the rest of the story," " Paul Harvey....Good day" ‼️ I tried to NEVER miss his daily radio show 🦋

Things are very sad right now in my world.  My dad, who lives in Arizona is not doing well at all.  My hubby and I are STUCK here in Colorado dealing with our own medical issues and want to get to my dad ASAP. As awful as it is to admit this and try to accept it, we just can not go right now‼️ I am getting very upsetting phone calls from old friends/neighbors telling me how awful I am for not being there.  I do not need to be told as I am fully aware of what this might look like to others. God as my witness, travel is not possible right now.  My brother has all of the legal rights that my dad gave to him because HE is the son and his generation thinks that women have no business being in charge😡

I am thankful for all of you online friends.....take care and stay safe.

Jenny, my heart goes out to you not being able to be with your father, and understand how difficult it is knowing there is nothing you can do to help. If it is any comfort, keep in mind that HE made the choices. I think you might have convinced him to move closer to you if you had been in charge, at least you could have helped him make better choices, right? Hugs to you and hope you can find peace in the days ahead.

I need a nap but didn't get a thing done today. Lots of laundry to do & floors to vac, but my excuse is.... (ready for this?).... "with it being so hot and the ACs working so hard, better not use an more electricity during peek hours than I can do another time, we don't want brown outs."   :(    Well, one excuse is as good as another~~~~

Good morning..

Going to get my work done then high tail it to the basement to sew.
Remeber when we said we couldn't wait for warmer weather..and now we want Fall. Spring and Fall are my favorite times of the year.

We had Ma and Pa Crow with their 3 babies, that are big as they are here yesterday. Still no Drop Wing???

Shirley, thank you for the recipe, It sure sounds good!! Never thought of using roast beef, have use ham in the past.

Jenny, really???? With all both  you and Bob with health problems to deal with and now this!! They are not friends, friends that know both of you would understand the tug of war you are going through. Surround yourself with those that lift you up, not drag you down. As Shirley said I hope you find peace to get through this.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We'll be off to the Farmers Market a bit later this morning.  Emma spent the night with us last night and she won't be up and ready to go until later.  She was sooooo good and such a sweetie last night!

JENNY, I agree with everything SHIRLEY and AMY said.  Friends would understand and I'm so sorry you can't be with your Father but I bet even he understands!  We have to take one step at a time.

I was here to hear some good news...Ali is going to have another baby!  They are all excited and thinking ahead already!

I have to grab some breakfast and get dressed and ready for my day!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Laundry on line now to label and put away the raspberry jam. Yes, some did make it into jam but a few made it to my tummy.

Amy, I have to laugh to myself every time you talk about raspberries. The last month I was pg with Julie-Ellen, Cas & I went to the movie (in England). All those years ago the kids in the snack bar would go up & down the aisle to sell stuff.... we had little cups of raspberry ice cream that sounded so good at the time.  Until the day she was born I had morning sickness all day, so didn't go far from a bathroom. Only at the movies there was always a waiting line to the ladies bathroom. Movie was over so Cas was waiting to drive home, it was 7 miles of torture for me trying not to barf in the car. I smelled raspberry in my nose & all through my head and 66-67 years later will get dry heaves at the smell of a raspberry. It is for sure a different smell & taste from all other berries and I give you my share for the rest of my life, don't think I will ever get over the memory but sure do enjoy it showing up to remind me WHY I am this way!

Congratulations & thanks for letting us in on the good news, Jane. "Ali is going to have another baby! "

My mother would take leftover beef roast from Sunday dinner and put it through the old hand-cranked meat grinder, add onions, leftover potatoes and gravy, and seasonings, make a batch of pie dough and cut into squares before baking.  Then add a large spoonful of ground beef to the pie dough squares, fold over and bake until browned.  Add flour and milk to beef drippings to make brown gravy to serve over and we had meat pies for another whole dinner.  She was very good at stretching leftovers to make a dinner for 6 during the Depression years.  Of course, she ground up cold lunch meat and made sandwich spread, too, but she generally used bologna with pickle relish and Kraft Salad dressing for that.  I think all mid-Western women had some sort of variation of your spread/dip, Shirley.  Times were hard back then and the old saying applied to everything.  "Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or do without."

Take care, All.

Good morning, same old same old here still. I wish there were an emoji for a broken record!

Jenny, I've said before that no one has the right to comment on another's behavior unless they have heard straight from that person and had it confirmed. And even then, they'll get it wrong. It's better to stay silent.

Amy, I ate raspberries yesterday, some straight from the colander, and strawberries later that night sliced with frozen peaches and blueberries. Anything ice-cold appeals to me these days other than my coffee. I've tried iced coffee and don't understand the appeal. It's the same with loading your coffee with sugar, cream, or flavored syrups; that also sounds terrible.

I never had any pregnancy cravings. I never had much appetite and never felt well in that heat. When we were briefly in Florida, I could see the water but couldn't go in and enjoy it because of sickness.

Shirley, I was one of the lucky ones with nine months of every-day, all-day morning sickness. That was a family trait that no one informed me of beforehand. I also had the joy of briefly passing out in the Texas heat. I remember one time I did it in the line at the base commissary. Once I recovered and went outside, I heard a small boy point to me and say, "Look, Mommy, there's that fat drunk lady!"

Jane, how wonderful for Ali, you, and the family, and how terrific that you were present to join in the celebration! What a blessed event!

Phyllis, I was thinking the same. I remember my Mom, who had the old table attached grinder with which she made different meat spreads. My parents came from old farming families, and nothing was tossed if it hadn't been utilized more than once! And even then it was composted.

Lloyd, nice picture of Nancy and the hibiscus! I wasn't aware that it only bloomed once and only in the daytime.

Patricia, I still have my attach to the table grinder and have used it up until I bought my Kitchen Aid. When I think of all the "things" that went through that grinder. meat, cucumbers for relish, cabbage, onions all by hand> I must admit I don't mind putting an item in the grider on the KA..so quick!

Amy, she also had a wooden apparatus that she made all types of noodles with. Both of my parents worked full time and then came home to more full-time. The three of us girls were their often unwilling assistants.

Dad hunted, fished, bartered, and had two sidelines, welding ornamental and practical things for people and retraining and socializing bird and hunting dogs. He also taught others to make outboards and jet boats.

Mom sewed all our clothes plus traded clothes back and forth with her sister in Oklahoma. She also made and sold quilts as well as painting oils or doing ceramics on commission. We also had an acre side garden each year.

In a way you and Jane remind me of her.

And no we weren't the only ones. Everyone hustled back then in the fifties and sixties, especially before statehood in 1959.

Hello Everyfriend!  The last while has been full around here.  Emma came home with us Friday afternoon, stayed overnight and then went to the Farmers Market with us and came back home and didn't go home until almost her bedtime tonight.  We had a ball but I'm exhausted!

I guess I'm the only one here who has actually met LLOYD'S NANCY face-to-face.  When they came east a while back to visit relatives, they stopped in Lewisburg and we had lunch together and took a tour of the town and talked non-stop.  I loved meeting both of them!  Nice to see the picture but I also have one of them on my office wall!

I've heard that warning....Use it up....many times in my life and it became part of my life.  I'm not given to throwing things out.  If I can't make something with them today, they go in the freezer for tomorrow!

And now, I have to finish up here, close down and head for the haystack!  I loved playing with Emma but a 4 year old has a LOT of energy to use up in a day!  And I helped her use it!

BUBBLE, I sure hope you're feeling a lot better today and even better tomorrow.  COVID can take the energy right out of you even if you had all the shots!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!  And may He also bless those we love!

Past my bedtime since I set the alarm for 5:00am to get out of the house by 7:00. I eat something so my aspirin doesn't hit an empty stomach. Feed Tiger & she heads to the bathroom to see I get dressed & she gets time to talk to me before I leave. She does miss Tom & Callie. Andy came over to mow! this evening so I did the weed whip & blew the grass on the driveway & curb into piles to pick up. He put some week killer in the pump area, those weeds grow like WEEDS. I itch all over so will take a shower, wash my hair & put me to bed!  Sweet dreams to all & God Bless!

Oh, I met Lloyd when he brought his mother & son to Sedalia and Bunny & husband plus Doris & her husband came from St.Louis area. I was meeting my brother & his wife along with my sister & her husband at Ryans. Quite a while ago.

I tested today: negative. So, I got over it. I still am as weak as a kitten and no energy at all. :( As we age, it takes that much longer to go back to normal, and the heat wave does not help.

Thanks for all the good wishes, I appreciate.

Bubble, that is great news!!! Now to regain your strength. Take it slow and easy, you do not want it back. Thank you for posting the way to the photos  The garden is doing great so far.the proof will be in the harvest.

Good morning..

So good to wake up to Bubble's good news!  A day of rest here. Will grab my tea later and finish sewing the binding on a quilt. My friend phoned last night and we chatted a while, her beans are ready to be picked today!! They are to the south of us and can get their garden in a lot earlier that us. Fresh bean will soon be on our table.

Have you noticed that the turnips and carrots from the store don't taste as good as they once did? Turnip used to have a good taste, not the wishy wshy taaste it has now and if any luck they let it get a light frost which made it sweetwer, same with brussel sprouts and carrots.

One did not waste in my time either. As Jane said if it wasn't ate, into the freezer it went to be use later in soup. With the high prices of groceries now one can't afford to waste any food.

Gloria, where are you???

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for a bit and I couldn't get on line to greet my friends.  Now I'm here.

BUBBLE, so glad to hear you're feeling better and checking negative!  I loved your pictures over in the posting!  I wonder if your little guy was really fishing or just dreaming?

AMY, loved your garden and I'm not going to show it to Cindy because she'll want those trugs with the covers.  She has a small greenhouse in her back yard so she can get an early start!  ALI also gets an early start on her flowers in the greenhouse!

I had one of JIM'S special eggs thingys for breakfast.  I have to get that recipe to take home.  It can be done ahead and frozen breakfast-size for one person.  When I get it, I'll post it but it'll be a while because when we're out he just makes more and I don't always see him.

My grandson-in-law is doing the service at their church in Texas this morning and I have it on my computer so I can be there.  He's very good!

I guess I better get finished here and get ready for the service.  I usually take my second cup of coffee to "church" with me!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm so sorry to hear that we're losing or good friend ROLEY/PETER again so soon.  I hope you make a speedy "feel better fast" PETER!

The day is on the way here and I'm not sure what it's going to bring.  I've had my first cup of coffee and my breakfast and my shower and I'm dressed and ready for whatever comes up.  Seems one of Cindy's doggies has adopted me.  She always comes and lays under the table when I'm on the computer.  She's a sweetie!

Last night Mikie and I had a dance together.  There was music playing and he always dances to it.  I joined him and he liked it!  That was fun!  Also, he's started including me in the "goodbye hugs" when they get ready to go home!

Now I'm off to see what the day brings!  I might have a picture to post if I can get it to BUBBLE.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Hello again Everyfriend!  LLOYD, I enjoyed it, too.  Thank you!

It's been a "different" day.  The kids didn't come over. We didn't go shopping.  Cindy spent the day catching up on her office work (boy does she ever serve a lot of people from her home).  I always knew she was a good accountant but I never knew HOW good!  And she's definitely NOT a slacker!

Tomorrow, we have some errands to run and Ali texted to say that she's bringing lunch and we're pretty sure that means she has some errands to run and needs us to watch the kids!  That's fine with me!

I think it might be getting on to time for me to look for the haystack.  I'll go upstairs and read until my eyes tell me it's sleepy time!  Cindy has just gone up with her book and Jim has som kind of sports on the TV.  I never know when he hits the hay!

I wish you all a peaceful night sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!  And may He look after Peter and Gloria and maybe Phyllis, too!

Good morning..

Rained overnight with the possiblity of a storm later this morning. I am taking my friend for a Dr appointment in the city. Kyle is staying home and looking after the dogs..or is it the dogs are looking after him?? She wants to do a shop at Costco and one other store. Then on Thur it is Kyle's turn for Dr appointment but we only have an hours drive for that one. On the following Mon I take my other friend for her Dr appointment.  Yes, I will be humming "on The Road Again"

With food prices soaring more and more people are getting into canning, preserving food one way or another.More gardens are being put in again this year.

Shiley, two eggs have hatched in the swallow nest. I just hope nothing gets the little ones. Red squirrls emptied the nest in the neighbours car port  so fingers crossed these will survive.

Jane, more hugs and dances for you today!

Patricia, you need this rain your way.

Gloria,miss your posts.

Phyllis, we are out of home made soup and 15 bean soup is on the menu if I get home in time to make it. If not it will be made tomorrow.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're all up and attem around here.  Cindy is in her "office", Jim has gone to water Ali's flowers and here I am on the computer.  I'll soon be out in the yard doing the job I've taken on since I arrived...following the doggies around and making sure there are no "doggie leavings" for the kids to step in when the come over.

It's going to be a hot one here but not over 100º like it's been for the past week.  It will be up in the mid 90s and that's bed enough.  We sure could use some of that rain.

I've had some bad news from home.  One of my neighbors who has been fighting respiratory disease has finally ended his battle.  He's been on oxygen for almost 2 years now and wouldn't give up the battle but it's over now.

I guess I better get my breakfast and get moving before the kids show up!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

It is with grave sadness that I must tell you that MY DEAR DADDY past away Sunday, 7/10/22 at 10:50AM MST.  We got a early flight out of Denver on Saturday 7/9,  all arranged by Dr. Dave, to Phoenix. We arrived at my Dads side in time to let him know we were here and he was able to acknowledge us....call us by name....and most importantly to tell us that he loved us dearly and that we loved him❣️🙏

Thanks to hospice, the meds were started and he did not suffer.  Dr. Dave was here all day, but had to return home to his children.  We are so thankful to him for getting us here🙏

I thank you ALL for your kind words of support ALWAYS‼️ I have glanced at your posts but will read them when I get home.  We are leaving this afternoon. We must get back for our medical needs.

My best wishes to you all.

Amy, good morning; nothing's changed fire-wise, no rain here. Although they had heavy rains in the Southeast portion of the state. Proving that nothing happens singularly, we received this weather notice today, "The Tanana River will have an increased risk of flooding of low lying areas starting today and continuing through the week. People in the Rosie Creek Subdivision near Fairbanks should prepare for potential flooding this week, with water levels similar to what happened with the high water in 2011 and 2012."

Jenny, I am having to look above the tears in my eyes... tears of joy that you got there in time for him to recognize and tell you he loved you. That was so important to me since I did not get that chance and it made the loss so much heavier.  Dr.Dave deserves extra hugs for arranging your flight.

You know and I know that your father is in a better place, we suffered with them when they couldn't do the things they wanted. But it sure doesn't fill the empty hole in our hearts when we want to tell them something special. Since Pollyanna here always has to look for the good in a situation, let's hope that this stress of worrying about your father will be enough less to allow your own body to relax and heal itself. My sincere sympathy to you and all the family.

Good morning..

Coasting today, doing what needs to be done and that is it! Yesterday was long, fun and my friend got good news! The Dr is making things happen and fast! We again loaded up the van at Costco, getting ready for winter. Had rain, thunder while in the city and ran into rain on the way home. Kyle said they hardly got any rain here, not even enough to wet the ground.

CC I don't remember a post like that.  I know urns come in many shape sizes and materials.

Patricia, how are the fires, are they any whereclose to being put out? Do you go through this each year with the fires?

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jenny, I just now read of your loss and I am so sorry.  It leaves a big hole in your heart.  I am also glad you got there in time to tell him goodbye.  I wasn't able to be with my father because of distance and I wasn't able to be with my husband because of nursing home restrictions.  Because he had Alzheimer's he didn't know who we were, anyway.  In the families' hearts he had left us many weeks before he actually died.  I've regretted it ever since but, things happen the way they are supposed to, I guess.

Cottencandy, I believe it was Sandy that spoke of making all arrangements for her cremation so she could remove the burden of all that from her family.  She may have mentioned something about the urn but I can't remember which forum it was.  If Sandy sees this maybe she can contact you and give the information for your friend.

Does anyone have her Phone Number?

Gloria is FINE!   I just got off the phone with her, she hates talking on the phone & it was time for her chat with her daughter so we rushed our conversation.  Problem with her computer again. Think she is frustrated, but said to tell y'all she is okay, just another sick computer.

I've got so many irons in the fire right now I'm gonna give up & take a shower & wash my hair.  I ripped the sheets off my bed, even down to the mattress pad, rotated the mattress and made a big pot of taco soup.... and then I couldn't get this new dryer to work, can't find the book (I always put manuals in the drawer where the appliance is) and then I can't find my wool dryer balls. They've been in a bag hanging on that utility room door ever since I bought them. I think I will just run away from home.  Oop, dryer buzzed.  All I got to say today!

Yep, Amy, and it is a new one!  We didn't talk but a few minutes. I knew it was about time for her facetime (or whatever it's called) with her daughter but knew if I didn't call while I was thinking about it, I'd forget until middle of the night.

I think I got 3 hours & 22 min. sleep last night and NO nap today. Got the bed put back together, still haven't found the manual for the dryer but youngest son comes by on Wed night (I always have food for him to take with)... so he showed me how to operate it. I finally got the sheets & mattress pad on when phone rang for my bedtime call from the oldest son. Daughter usually calls about 7:00 pm for a daily update & we agreed we were both worn to a nub today & probably wouldn't go out to look at the moon.

Hey, Rick, thanks for reminding me that I have her phone number. She gave it to me when she was in the hospital last time.

Sweet dreams and God Bless.

Good morning, everyone. The skies are this unusual blue this morning; what's up with that? The winds have shifted, and more rain and flooding are due this weekend, so we have both a low-level flood warning and a fire (516 fires currently) alert warning. Someone somewhere is rubbing their hands in glee.
