The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.
-Steve Ballmer
"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart."
Elisabeth Foley
"Swinging on a Star"
- Bing Crosby
Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule?
A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule
Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig?
A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig
Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish?
A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Everyday you'll meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star
Good morning everyone...
Need to take hubby back to the lumber yard. Neighbour came over yesterday and ordered two trugs. He will be busy for a couple of days.
Have some deliveries to make then home to sew. I did manage to wash floors yesterday and get some sewing done.
Bubble, thank you for the new start and would you like to be a star is singing in my head :)
Jane, you do have your work cut out for you today! Bet that new flooring looks so nice.
Gloria, no I didn't get any shoes but I have an appointment in the city and may get a chance to get them then..I hope.
Better get a move on here....enjoy your day everyone.
Stay safe..
Good Morning Everyfriend! BUBBLE,I enjoyed all or your postings but "Swingin' on a Star" is one of my all time favorite songs. I know all the words to it and I sing it often. But when I sing it, I don't hear it in my off tune, no music voice. I hear Bing Crosby sing it as he did to the New York City kids at his church. Also as he does on the CD I have of his music. Now it will be going through my mind all day.
I'm going to start on the bedroom change today but I'm going to be ready just in case. Cathy's on vacation this week and we might be heading for the Wednesday farmer's market later this morning. I think the early corn might be available. I also have to clean and freeze the rest of the black raspberries and deal with whatever comes from the market.
Gonna be a busy day so I better get started. AMY, good luck with your shoe hunt. You need them to keep up with Kyle.
I off to feed Mickie and eat the rest of the cleaned raspberries for breakfast. GLORIA, I'll fix a bowl for you just in case you got the broom working.
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend. Make it your own in every way.
Good Morning everyone, well it is raining @7:00 AM with 7 mph wind. that is the making of a good day,we needed the rain. God is as usual taking good care of us.
hope you all are doing as good. may your day be just as you like it.
Lloyd
I am back, setting here looking out and watching the humming Birds,in the rain eating. Is amassing to watch them. the will flay up , sometimes set down and eat at the feeder and some times stay flying in space and eat,and just like your children sometimes stay calm and some times jump on each other. I spend a lot of time setting here watching them. have a good of day as I am watching the birds.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone. Not much up to chatting this morning so this will me short.
SHIRLEY just lucky when they sent Yvette here. We hit it off and that was almost 3 years ago. No complins about her except she talks too much. I keep telling her that. I had a couple of good ones before she started here. I was one of her first clients.
BUBBLE thanks for the new page. Made me realize the month of July is half over. Only a couple more months of hot humid weather. Wonderful. You now have the sound of Bing Crosby in my head. I remember seeing him sing that in a movie, maybe the Bells of St. Mary? I know he played the part of a priest.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.
Gloria, I could watch that movie all day long....one of my favourites..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fnpJKMGV-Q
Good morning.
A much busier morning than my usual routine.
Son coming for dinner.
Think I'll relax in between.
My son is coming, too, Callie. BUT, I still have stuff in the middle of the floor from the RV, what to take to the basement & what to put back in the RV and what to give away. When you can't decide, just let it lay there. ???
Been in for my Echo, can't get a hint out of the tech how it looks so must wait until next week appointment with the cardio to get his take. Have the routine down pat with masks, questions & temp taking, not crowded. Tom & Callie came in for an early supper but Tiger is playing hard to get. They know when they are hungry and certainly don't hesitate to let one know! Tiger just walked away.
Bubble, if I haven't said it before, love the graphics & still humming that tune. The words were all buried in my head. I also enjoyed the Bells of St.Mary's, Amy. I guess everyone in that movie is dead, now, but what a memory to leave behind, right?
Better get moving. Hope everyone has a great day, where ever you are!
well one of my problems Is I do not rember well any more. so I looked back as far as I can and never seen what i thought I may have posted,do not see it so I tell you again or now how ever it is,Nancy made two loaves of home bread. she used 2 cups of whole wheat and 4 cups of regular white flour in it. we started in on as soon as it came out of the oven. we 4 children and 3 adults. we ate one loaf of it except about 3 slices 3/4 thick slices. do not drool all over your self real butter and honey on it.
Lloyd
Lloyd
Lloyd, that sounds delicious!! Nothing nicer than hot bread from the oven with real butter and honey....and yes, I am drooling! :))
Today was mixed. we went to pick up supplies from the lumber store , unloaded it and then I went back into town. Made a delivery then headed to a fabric sale...... oh my..did I have fun!!! Came away with two heavy bags of fabric.......great for masks and some for quilts. Back to sewing..
I started working on the back rooms and was just sitting down to rest when I got a text from Cathy. She was going to take a shower and then she'd be over to take me to the Farmer's Market. I said that was fine and then she asked if I wanted to go to Kohl's too. I did! So I got in the shower and got ready and I had my very first real shopping outage since I broke my arm and the shutdowns began in March. It felt wonderful!
I got a zucchini, 2 ears of corn and the best tomato I've eaten in a long time at the Farmers Market. And when I got home, I cleaned and froze the rest of the black raspberries (there's almost enough for a batch of jam) and have enough for two more breakfasts. I'll have to see if I can pick up a couple boxes at the Sunday Farmer's Market to make up the rest for a batch of jam.
All in all, a very nice day. Mickie and I will have one more walk....
Sorry, interruption! I glanced up at the window and it was getting pretty dark so I took Mickie for her walk and then came back to finish my post.
I hope you all had a great day! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
well I am heading off to bed also, shot and evening pill are next.
we had 1" rain with a little thunder this morning. good night and sweet dreams and God bless you all.
Lloyd
Bedtime in Kansas as well. Lloyd, nothing I like better than hot bread with butter & honey. On the other hand, fresh veggies from the Farmer's Market rates right up there! I do love to eat. Jane, have to pass on the raspberries, strange that just a whif of them after all these years (1955) and my stomach does a flip. Not fair.
We had wild blackberries, raspberries and dew berries in the field behind our house when growing up, as well as wild strawberries. the strawberries were tiny but such heavy taste & smell, yum. The blackberries were "tame" not wild, my mother said. They were as big as a grown person's thumb. Don't know why the dew berries didn't rate very high, they were huge. Always thought I'd like to plant some in the berm & just let them multiply.
When we first moved to Wichita we rented a house until we could build, and that house had a whole patch of blackberries that kept us in cobblers & jam, more than we could eat. At this house I need those trugs, our soil isn't soil but sand and we think probably contaminated as well. These lots were created by pulling sand up from the river to level them out, and very little top soil. Back in the old days people used to dump along the river & we still find shards of glass, etc. when having to dig out fence posts.
Still very hot out & chance of rain after midnight, tried to talk Tom & Tiger into staying in tonight, but the kept patting the door to go out. Callie went to her garage door, she seems to like the hot garage better than cool house. I didn't get 5 hours sleep last night so am heading to bed right now.
Sweet dreams, God Bless and as Lloyd says, "hope to see you tomorrow". I'm still kind of in shock with my high school friend's wife dying from that truck going through Wendy's and he is in the hospital with broken ribs & collapsed lungs. My heart goes out to him with conditions like they are, but someone said his sons had been able to visit with him, a special unit of the hospital. "Hope to see you tomorrow" is really true! I'll turn out the lights, Lloyd.....Shirley
Posting late again. Not much to say. The weather has been much cooler the past two days so we have been able to get a few tasks done.
We had our first locally grown corn on the Cobb tonight, and it was pretty tasty!
AMY, yippee more lucky people getting a nice trug built by Kyle!
SHIRLEY, I am holding good positive thoughts and saying prayers for a good report on the echo.
JANE, nice to read you got to go to the Farmers Market and to Kohl's for some shopping. Finishing up the room will get done soon enough.
I hope you all have a good night of rest.
Jenny
Good morning everyone..
We are to have t storms and rain.......so they say...we shall see.
My neighbour and I are off to the city, I have a Dr appointment and then we will shop till we drop, which doesn't take long anymore. :)
Shirley, where I came from we called the blackberries thimbleberries. My favourite berry is the raspberry, and the wild ones are the best!
Jane, our corn is far from being ready here. Can't wait for a fresh tomato, have some on the plant but it will be a while yet.
Jenny , he has 3 more to build come Spring! He enjoys the work and it is keeping him busy.
Gloria, hope today is a good day for you..
Phyliss ,Joy Callie and Sandy good morning to you..hope all is well.
Better go get my town clothes on..
Enjoy your day everyone..
Good Morning everyone, It is 66º And going for the upper 80's or mid 90's today clear right now, Have a good day just as you like it. I had a hard time getting my head to stop rambling and go to sleep Last night even with the pills, but when it did i slept good more rested this morning. see you later
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, the sun is shining and the sky is blue and it is a wonderful 63. Who could ask for better on a day in July? Well it would be better if this $^%& virus was wiped out and we could get back to being social again with our neighbors.
AMY thank you for for the link, now I know what I will be watching later. I remember seeing that movie when it first came out and waiting in line to get into see it. Sad at the end though if I remember right.
SHIRLEY the doctor I go to is still not seeing anyone in person but on line she talks to them if needed.
LLOYD nothing beats a home made bread out of the oven and eaten with lots of real butter on it.
AMY looks like you have a lot of new material to sew up. You must be happy now.
JANE glad you got some fresh produce but my mouth started watering when you mentioned a tasty tomato. Son #1 told me Tuesday when he was here that he had one tomato getting red, a cherry tomato. That would be a tease to eat that one bite tomato. I would love to get out and go shopping with my daughter. Trying on clothes is a job and she was honest about how things looked. My SIL has taken me but she wonders around-no help.
JENNY today looks like it will be the coolest day here and low humidity since last month.
AMY wather wise it will be a good day here. I have the window in the bedroom open as high as I can raise it. Nice getting some fresh air in.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.
I'm still here but it has been, and is, so hot I just don't feel like doing anything....even typing on the computer. My mother always said don't wish your life away but, oh, I do wish this summer was over.
I received some new ebooks from the library yesterday so I think I'll just spend most of the day reading. David will pick up the groceries later on and we will have a Schwann's delivery today and that will be it for thinking about food for awhile. I hard boiled 1/2 dz. eggs in the IP yesterday so I will make some egg salad and slice some tomatoes, sweet onions, and cucumbers, etc. for vegetable munching and that will be about the extent of our dinner tonight. I will make a triple berry (raspberry, blackberry & blueberry) and banana smoothie to go with it. Just keeping it easy and cool.
Take care, All.
Just checking in...
This day took off this morning. Mickie and I have already had a walk and I watered the garden before the sun got around to it. (I neglected it last night...too tired) I've put the clean dishes away from the dishwasher, read the paper, did a bit of dusting, and went through two boxes.
GLORIA, I thought of you as I ate my black raspberries for breakfast this morning. It's only up to 72 so far this morning and only supposed to reach 80. Not so bad!
Better get back to the busy-ness and get something accomplished this morning. I want to do some cooking this afternoon.
Enjoy your day, whatever you do!
Good Morning everyone. Denver I was told a few min ago you Lost a family member. and I was scolded the other day about putting too much info. on here, but I would like to get the info some how. I have something for you. I need a snail mail address please. I think so_P_bubble can do that, I cant post my email address on here, but I think she can get it to you so you can or she can send it to me.
Lloyd
Had the 4th visit from an exterminator yesterday and he reset the critter trap. Nothing there this morning. Yesterday, I drove to the grocery pick-up but had to enter the drug store area to pick up two prescriptions. We are enduring a time here - Don had to send in his hearing aids and it looks like a week plus before they will be returned. It is OK in the house because he can understand me - no phone calls for him as I usually answer everything anyway. This altitude is not good for him either. ---enough, we do our best and that is all we can do these days.
A friend wants to meet at an outdoor restaurant for a birthday gathering - spaced apart. I have decided to not even try it and another gal is not going either. We still have terrible numbers here - this is about the poorest run state with politicians I have ever seen Graffiti has been on state capitol and city buildings for months & not a thing has been cleaned. People sleeping in tents & living on the streets in front of these public buildings - yuk! Being run by the same kind who rule over Seattle - my home for many years. Seattle is a smelly dump. I wish we could send a real commanding officer to take charge.
Otherwise, we are seeing a lot more wildlife - animals I mean. Deer is back in sight. They just look at us from afar and keep on grazing.
I baked sugar-free brownie mix yesterday and put sugar-free ice cream on it for Don = he really liked it.
Hang in there - there has to be an antidote for this virus one day. We will all dance in the streets when that happens.
Oh my what a fun day!! We struck out at 7 this morning.. after going to my appointment off we went to shop........and shop we did!! We met up with son and exchanged items then shopped some more. We both got a great buy on dirt..5 bags for $6.00 so since we both have new trugs to fill come Spring we loaded up 20 bags....sure gave us a smooth ride home..
Lots of giggles and laughs today
Now to relax...more than ready to put my feet up......
I made a new meatball recipe for supper and I had it over noodles for supper. Tomorrow I'm going to try it over broccoli. I think it will be better with the veggies altho it was good with the noodles tonight.
Got the bed, dresser, night stand and blanket box moved into the new room with Cathy's help today. Tomorrow the guys from my son's store will come by and move my freezer to the other room and a bookcase into the (now) bedroom and then I'll be able to work on the boxes of "stuff". Hopefully, a lot of it will go to Goodwill. On full box of material will be ready for Christy the next time she ventures this way from Maryland. She said not to get rid of any material. So she gets it all.
Now I'm ready to hit the hay and I must say, all this "work" has given me some good nights of sleep. I haven't been waking up for anything after I go to bed. So I'm wishing you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Good Night and sweet dreams everyone. I have already taken taken my evening pills, now my shot and off to bed. Hope i drop off to sleep right off.see you all in the morning.

Good morning everyone. Nothing much going on around here. I am beginning to feel like a hermit. Only place that is cool is my apartment. Even the halls feel warm. Looks like she doesn't want to waste money keeping the AC's running much at either end of the hallways. mid 60's now and cloudy with chance of rain.
PHYLLIS your smoothie sounds so tasty. Yvette keeps making me one every day but at times I rather have just plain water.
JANE in the mid 60's here now. When it gets up to mid 70's for a high maybe I will venture outside again. If the witch left the back door unlocked we could go out there in the shade. Front porch is all sun and that I cannot take. Walking around the parking lot is out, between the sun and the black top it is horrible.
CAROL on local news there have been reports of some people calling all this a hoax and those whoe died would have died anyway. One man opened his restaurant and no masks, sitting close and not sanitizing tables and counters. He has been closed again by the state and it is permanent. He will never be able to have a restaurant in this state again.
AMY I watched the Bells of St. Mary yesterday and enjoyed it again. Thanks for the link to it.
JANE glad you have some strong men to move your freezer and heavy furniture you want moved.
BUBBLE thanks for the link to photos.
SHIRLEY how many years have you had that tree? Love the pot you have it in. Your room is beautiful. Something like I would have loved years ago. Never had rooms big enough for anything pretty.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone..
What a night we had here!! Along with lightening, cracking thunder non stop we had a welcomed rain. This kept of for quite sometime during the night which I was awake for. Babe was so nervous so I got up with her. I can foresee a nap later today. Bet the water barrel is full.
Today is to go to the lumber store to pick up plastic to finish off the inside of a trug and need to pick up a card for our friend.
Jane, we stopped in at Sally Anns to see if they are taking "stuff" as I have some also to go. She said not yet but soon and then it would be only one day a week,
Carol, I think a lot of people are going to have second thoughts on dining out.
Phyliss, I am with you on the want of cooler weather. This hot weather is nasty!
Gloria, doing the happy dance here we had rain!! Lots of it along with all the music to go with. We still need more but thankful for what we got..
Lloyd say good morning to Nancy for me please. Hope you both have a wonderful day..
Joy and Peter....stop in when you can find the time and say hi.
Better get a wiggle on it...
Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem! Mickie's been out and fed and I made dog food and took a shower. I'm ready for the guys to come over and move stuff. I still have some boxes to get moved and some more to go through but the job doesn't look so daunting anymore.
I had the last of the fresh raspberries for breakfast this morning. They sure tasted good and I ate them slowly so I could savor them. They made me wish I had raspberry bushes in the yard!
I guess I better get moving so I accomplish something today. I have to make room for the freezer in the room where I want it before the guys decide to show up.
I hope you all have a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it....whatever it is you do!
Good morning. All is as usual here this morning. You've all heard my complaints about the heat so I won't mention them again.
No food deliveries to worry with today so will just take it easy.
Take care, All.
we got in the mid 90's today seam 94 on the car checker while on our trip to sam's club. stopped at a wall-mart and bought a stand alone blinder, did not work as good as the one we already had so back it goes. we need to stop and start thinking better, Or maybe I just need to ckeck with Nancy better. good night.
Lloyd
Well, I don't know who I'm talking to since no one has been in here since 9 o'clock this morning. Everyone must be EXTREMELY busy elsewhere.
I'm off to bed now and I must say, I didn't get as much accomplished today as I had planned since my son's "guys" were so busy they couldn't take time to move my freezer and bookshelf. So the boxes are waiting for that to happen....maybe tomorrow!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Note added: LLOYD, you came by as I was posting.
Good morning everyone..
Yesterday went in a blurr. Our trip to town took longer than thought.we took the garbage away then into town to pick up plastic. Kyle wanted wheel dollys also but none to be found in town. I stopped at Lynns to pick up two pieces of fabric , they weren't big piece just scraps and she gave them to me. I chuckled and said I had better buy some fabric ...and I did :))
Today is picking up meds and a card then home to quickly tidy up and the sew.
Jane, I didn't sneak in a nap yesterday..but I sure slept sound last night. Hope today is the day the fellas move your stuff for you.
Phyliss, we had your custard cooked in the IP....so soothing. Gave my neighbour your recipe as she loves custard.
Lloyd, I doubt if folks will get a second crop of hay off here..everything is burning up.
Gloria........where your witch is going will really be hot...maybe she is trying to get used to the temp?? At least you can stay nice and cool.....plus safe too!
Better get a move on and get things done before it gets too hot..
Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! So far it's still cool here but it's supposed to hit 93 sometime today. I already told Mickie that our noon walk is out. I'm not even going to make her walk to the mailbox with me today! I think she really minds the heat these days so well stick to quick "yardies" and save the walk till the sun goes down behind the hill. Of course, we'll manage one right after breakfast which is coming up soon.
I think it might be time for the boinger so I'll bid you all GOOD DAY! Make it your own in every way! And PLEASE come by and share it with your good friends!
Good morning everyone, according to the forecast today will be the start of a heat wave-that means 90 and over for at least 3 days. Yuck.Well I can stay in with my AC running. As long as we do not lose power we will be OK.
AMY it is terrible when dogs are so scared of the sound of thunder. No matter what we do they either do not want you to touch them or they stick to you llike glue. Glad you got the needed rain though.
JANE hope every thing is moved now and just where you want it. That is a big job. Hope Mickie was OK with all those men in the house.
PHYLLIS always good to see your post. The heat makes us all lazy but then I feel like I am a lazy old lady all the time lately.
LLOYD better think twice before buying anything or check with Nancy first.
AMY the witch is taking more days off lately and it is always peaceful when she is out of the building.
JANE wish I had something to share but the days are the same with nothing unusual. My son called last night and said he would be here earlier today so he can get back home before the heat builds up.
Have a good day and stay cool and safe.
Good morning, Friends! I had a look at the week ahead forecast and would like to just sleep through. Every day to be upper 90s to 100s and that sure isn't my pick of fav weather! Got to get a move on because that pool needs a good cleaning today or won't stay sparkling. Cats are not listening this morning. Callie came on in for her breakfast tuna but Tom & Tiger just look at me like they don't hear. Tuna is usually their favorite meal but I'm guessing they filled their tummy with their own catch. I tell myself "that is nature", but would rather they eat what someone else caught.
I've been busy e-mailing some of my classmates for news about our friend whose wife was killed last week, where to send sympathy/get well cards. As far as I know he is still in ICU in a lot of pain with his injuries and I'm sure a lot more pain with losing his wife and not being able to have any service for her until ... don't know when.
Better get moving, Tom & Tiger still refusing to come in. Guess I will feed myself, get dressed and on with the day. It is very still right now, should be watering the yard, starting to look green again but the week ahead will take a toll on the grass. Wonder why it doesn't bother weeds when so hot and dry. Wishing all a Super Saturday!
Oops, you slipped in, Gloria. Like you, I'll spend my days in AC and hope the power holds up. When talking to my daughter yesterday the phone went dead, usually a problem on my end but she called back & said lightning had knocked their power out & she had to go see how many clocks she had to reset. Wonder why people quit putting up "lightning rods" anymore. We have one that was on my gr-mother's house, the rod was melted on the end attached to the house but glass ball not broken. When we found it when the house was being cleaned out, he said, "it did it's job. That copper wire that ran to the ground saved the house."
Good Morning everyone. the Holden weather guesser says 77º already @6:50 C T S.
But it is over cast here now. I slept good after I got to sleep, but that took a while before I got my head to shut down for the night. Have a good day everyone. Gloria I always get the last word, ( YES DEAR ) don't hit me again I am behaving.
Lloyd
Thanks, Amy. The Egg Custard sounds good to me today, too. A nice light dessert on a hot day when you don't want too much to eat.
We had a good rain storm last night. I wish I could share it with those of you who need it more than we do.
Take care, All.
I am staying in.........way too hot out now.....84 ° in the shade.
We got a surprise this morning when going through Timmies, the lady in the vehicle ahead of us paid for the coffee we ordered. On the way home and thankfully off the road on a side hill stood 2 deer eating....nice to see and hope they stay off the road.
Just helped the neighbour load and unload the 2 trugs
they wanted.so now to head to the sewing room after I fold some laundry.
Just wanted to say HI !!
Not much to talk about as I don't do anything much anymore. It is supposed to in the 90's here in the central Atlantic area, so I will be staying in. I don't really mind the hot weather, but will wait until the sun is gone from our little sitting area. It seems to get a lot nicer in the late afternoon, even usually have a little breeze.
Getting to be lunchtime, so I just thought I would stop by just to say Hello!
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoy the rest of your day.
Joy
Reporting in as "instructed" ;D
Shirley, every time I read about "Callie" the cat I have to remind myself you're not talking about me! :D
My reaction this morning was...."tuna? for breakfast?? :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead:
I'm pretty much caught up on needed Domestic Duties, don't need to do any cooking and long ago turned food preserving, etc. over to the dil who, I understand, is currently making Christmas pickles from my recipe.
I've done the Daily Goals and solved the Daily Challenge for 4 solitaire games, run the sprinkler on the flower beds, read the paper, put in a load of laundry and gotten a birthday card in the mail in time for the mailman.
Hope to work on the family history biographies this afternoon and maybe do some organizing and planning for the photo album son wants me to put together for their 20th anniversary.
And that's the news from this corner.
GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND!
IT is going to be a HOT one here again today. My late mothers side of the family is getting together in a park today and we really would like to have gone but the numbers are rising here and we are trying to be extra careful again. It will be much too hot to be out also, so sadly I do not think we will attend. Sure would like to see them all 🥵 😷
Mark and Megan came by with the boy yesterday. We sat outside on the deck for a bit under the umbrella, but finally had to get inside to the A/C. Megan went to spend time with a friend so Mark stayed and chatted while Jonah took his nap🥰🥰 That little guy is so cute....chatting a lot more now and is a lot of fun to be with🥰🥰 Daddy is going out of town for a job interview tomorrow😩 HAPPY for him about a prospective job but can't help but be sad it is not in Colorado😘
Seems everyone is keeping busy in spite of the heat that most of you are having🙀
LLOYD, I sent you a personal message on here....I hope you got it?
Take care and enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND😻
Jenny

Denver how did you send the massage ? do not find it in email. do not know on S & F how to get if it is here, it is still 84º here now was 94 earlier. too hot to get out. see you all tomorrow here by the AC. good night and sweet dreams.
Lloyd
End of the day and it's been a busy one! I'm still working on the two back rooms but I have a bag for Good Will and another one for the trash and a container of material and sewing stuff for Christy. She said, "Don't get rid of any material. I'll take anything you don't want." So she's getting it all. If there's anything she doesn't want SHE can toss it!
Now I'm off to bed and I hope for a good sleep. I'm really tired. Tomorrow, I hope to finish the two-room changeover. I haven't actually tossed everything I should but I have all the tubs labeled and I can do one whenever I feel like it. I do have 3 empty tubs so I guess I got rid of some stuff.
SANDY, it was nice to see a post from you and to know that all your family is avoiding Covid. I hope it stays that way for you all.
And now, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Good morning evryone..
Today is going to be one of the worst days for heat....guess it is a stay in the house day and sew..
Jane how is your arm/shoulder holding up with all this extra work?
Sandy, great to hear all is well in your neck of the woods..This heat sure zaps the energy out of everyone.
Lloyd, on the left you will see User then your photo and name under that you will see PM (Private message) click on that and you will find your message from Denver.
Jenny, bet you had a lot of fun with Jonah!! Hope you took a lot of photos to share.
Callie, I did get a chuckle out of your post. I have yet to hear from Shirley that Callie stay out all night carousing about. :2funny:
Joy, thank goodness for the little breezes as they make all the difference in the blistering days.
Phyllis, our custard is all gone......may make another one today ,one for us and one for our neighbour as she likes it also . She has to work today and won't have to worry about dessert.
Shirley ,hope you found the information on where to send the cards. Sad times we are in and this makes it sadder for the gentleman.
Gloria, I had a Scotch collie that did not like storms, she told you one was coming hours before it came. Her teeth would rattle and her favourite place to be in the storm was in the bathroom wrapped around the throne and she would not move until the storm was over.
I had better get a move on,do what needs to be done then coast for the day.
Enjoy your day everyone ,stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! And a special "Good Morning to you AMY" because you're here.
As to my arm...it's never going to have the strength it had before but I've had a "go ahead" from the dr. to use it as much as I need to. Sometimes it hurts when I use it and usually it doesn't but I know it isn't as strong so I try to put weight on the other are and just guide with the left. Fortunately, I'm right-handed so that's probably what I've done all my life. The difference is, I never had to think about it before. But it works and I'm glad of that!
My plan for today is to finish up the bedroom so that if I have company (usually Frankie) she'll have a place to sleep that doesn't look like a storeroom. My secondary plan is to get all the "extra" stuff out of my bedroom so it looks like a bedroom again. If those two things get accomplished, I'll be happy!
AMY and anyone else who is interested. I've given up on the Instant Pot! I gave it to Christy and I think she's had it about 3 weeks and has already used it half a dozen times. That's probably more than I used it in all the time I had it. I really prefer my Crock Pot and I'm looking at a new, updated one. They'll probably update it 6 more times before I decide to buy one but one can dream! And I also am thinking of an Air Fryer but I've been thinking of that since before the instant pot. I do dream a lot!
Now, back to reality. It must be almost time to feed Mickie and me and then get a walk in before the temp reaches 90º! When it gets that high, I hibernate! Even if my car was back, I wouldn't go out in that kind of weather! I wonder how I stood it when I was a kid? In fact, I wonder how my parents and grandparents stood it. There wasn't such a thing as A/C back then!
I'm off to feed Mickie and myself and then get to work! I wish you all a lovely day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to SHARE it with your friends here!
Good Morning everyone. it Is already 78º here @6:52 A M going to says 88º but i think it will go on into the ninety's. stay in and stay cool, we are going to daughters for a birthday party for great grand sons birthday. Have a good day. I still haven't found Denver's post for me. ate up with the dead head,
Lloyd
Good morning everyone. I really do not know how people living in the south put up with this weather so many days in the summer. Just like I do not know how my daughter can live off the grid in 100 degree weather with a swamp cooler to keep cool. 78 already
SHIRLEY are you longing for winter like I am?
AMY NOT WEATHER TO DO ANY LOADING OF ANYTHING OUTSIDE. Stay inside where at least y ou should be cooler and out of the sun.
JOY nice seeing you. Sinde they cut down all the fine trees in the back of the building there is no shade to sit in. Never see anyone out of their apartments either.
CALLIE at first when Shirley mentioned Callie I thought she was talking about you till I realized it was the cat.
JENNY to hot to be outside. I know you enjoy your little one. My little one will be 5 next week.
AMY my son's dog-the one I called mine- did not like storms either but she would hide in a corner and did not want to be touched. I guess she felt safer in a corner than any othe place.
JANE I remember my Mom canning in the summer. We had a big old cast iron stove she had to light up to cook on. It must have been so hot it that kitchen without even a fan.
Have a good day, keep cool and safe.

Bubble, thank you for posting the photo..the plants are loaded with blossoms and I hope to get a lot of pumpkins....bees will be happy with the flowers!
Battening down hatches here, we are expecting a nasty storm and possible tornado.we will welcome the rain but not the rest![

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a good day?
I really could not bear the kind of temperatures some of you are having just now! It is 5pm here and 15C (59F) and that is fine for me. We did have a very hot and sunny day yesterday, but I think most of you would have found it quite cold!
Yesterday we went for a fabulous walk along the cliff tops from Stonehaven to Dunottar Castle and back. Stonehaven is a small town on the coast, about 10 miles south of Aberdeen - it has a pretty harbour, which was very busy even when we arrived around 10am. We lived just outside the town many years ago, and although I have been back since then this time I really noticed how many smart new cafes and gift shops have moved in - back in the 1990s it was still a very traditional fishing town. The walk starts behind the houses on the quay, and rises up quite steeply to the clifftops. Nowadays there is a proper path, all very safe - when I used to do it back then you just found your way round the edge of the cliffs, and I recall once doing that in thick fog.
Yesterday was clear and sunny with a good breeze. The path was quite busy in places, but most people did wait to let others pass at a good distance. You can see the castle as you follow the path - it is very dramatic. Normally you can visit the inside, although it is so derelict that 'inside' really means walking around the ruins and one or two proper rooms that are still intact. It is a very atmospheric place. I don't think it was actually open this weekend, but I heard someone say how much they now charge for admission and I was quite glad we hadn't any plans to go in anyway! The castle dates from the Middle Ages, and was also the place where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hidden from Oliver Cromwell's invading army. I don't know if this picture will work:
When we came back we did some gardening, our little garden is looking quite good at the moment, and I potted up the last seedlings that I had growing in my mini-greenhouse - mostly parsley, night-scented stock and marigolds. I also had a few sunflowers so i have hopefully planted them out, but I do wonder if it is too late in the season already for them to make much progress. My daughter has grown some in Edinburgh and they are doing really well, but she started earlier and the side of the house she is growing them on is in full sun and very hot.
Last week my son let us know that he has now passed all of his assessments and is a fully qualified ambulance technician. We are so proud of him. I hope he will now be able to get onto the paramedic course as soon as possible, as if he doesn't do that soon he will be obliged instead to take a full university degree (and pay for it) and I very much doubt he would bother. He would still have a good job as a technician, but the paramedic training would bring more money and also more options for working in different parts of the NHS.
Last night we watched a great film on Prime - 'Fishermen's Friends'. It based on a true story, and is about a group of fishermen in Port Isaac (the same village where Doc Martin is filmed) who used to get together to sing sea shanties. They are 'discovered' by a London record executive who is down there for a friend's stag weekend, and he decides to try to get them a recording contract. Meanwhile various other things are happening in the locals' lives. It's a lovely film, nothing too awful happens, the singing is great, and there are lots of very funny scenes. If you need a nice easy thing to watch, with lots of Cornish scenery and humour, I'd recommend it.
Our coronavirus restrictions have been lifted a little this week. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has urged everyone to 'Keep the Heid' ('keep your head') and not to think it is fine to forget all the rules. Our numbers are now very low in Scotland, but as she so rightly pointed out, they could so easily rise again and we will end up with another lockdown. No-one wants that. I and my friends are still being careful - i don't need or want to go to big stores, eat out, or anything like that. I just continue to go for walks, do the garden, read, review, and meet up with friends (one at a time) for 'socially distanced' walks and chats. Last week a friend and I walked at Forestry Commission land and didn't see a soul. The views up there were great too.
And now I think I must take a little walk to the Co-Op - I went to the supermarket on Friday night but as usual I forgot something. We are so lucky to have these two excellent little stores within walking distance.
Have a good evening everyone,
Best wishes,
Rosemary
A Good Sunday HELLO to ALL.
SANDY, how nice to read that your family is doing well and staying healthy during this scary Covid time. I hope your A/C will continue to keep you cool during these hot summer days. We are having some really hot temperatures also and I am so thankful to have A/C and to be able to afford to run it! We open up at night most of the time, but recently we have had to keep the air on as it did not cool down enough.
LLOYD, I just put my finger on your name and then sent you a message from there. My email address is on my page here, so maybe you can just put your finger on my name and see it? If not, I will just type it in for you as anyone can get it on here anyway....
JANE, it appears you are getting close to having everything arranged nicely in your home. We need to do some more clean out, but something keeps me from getting motivated🤪 Happy to read that your arm is doing better and building up some strength, but of course, I a: sure it will never be quite as strong as it was.
AMY, we did have a delightful visit with Mark and Jonah but I do not think I took one single picture😩😩 I am sure holding good thoughts that you will not have a tornado 🌪 today🙏🙏. Thank you for trying to help LLOYD find the info.
GLORIA, these little ones just grow up much too quickly. Hard to believe your great grand can be nearly 5 already. I, too, just do not think I could deal with the triple digit temperatures any more. Mark called from his interview location a bit ago and it is 114 there today 😩😩 I know he does not like the heat tha5 much either but good golfing locations are generally in 🔥 places! UGH!
Thank you, BUBBLE, for the clickable to view the pictures.
ROSEMARY, 59 degrees at 5 PM sounds wonderful to me right about now!
In fact, your entire post was delightful to read. I tried to imagine the walk with you and it must have been so enjoyable. Congratulations to your son and I do hope he will get in the the paramedic course soon.
Have a good rest of your Sunday.
Jenny
I'm on my way to bed but I had to stop by to see what ya'll have been up to today! Sounds like you all had nice days...ROSEMARY walkd, JENNY talked with son, AMY grew blossoms, and everyone enjoyed the day!
AMY that pumpkin blossom looks humungous! I sure hope you get pumpkins this year. Everyone, she's not going to be making Jack O'Lanterns out of these pumpkins. They're what we always call "crookneck" pumpkins and they make the BEST pies you ever ate no matter what! They always had them on the farm when my dad was growing up and they're the only kind he planted in our back-yard gardens. And they're what he told me I needed to get when I baked my first pumpkin pie. AMY's pumpkins are growing from Pennsylvania seeds. So I'm hoping for the best! I also have some seeds growing in Texas in my daughter's back yard but she ming not see them. I think their house might be sold. They are moving to Oklahoma.
And that reminds me... Callie, my first Scottie as a grown up was named Callie. so you can be a dog or a cat whichever suits your fancy!
Now I'm off to bed. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
well it never worked for Me Denver. so I am going to go take my shot and go to bed. Good night and sweet dreams. see you all tomorrow.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone..
Well ,we did get a storm..power on and off but thankfully it didn't stay off for very long. High winds caused problems in some areas but we were fine here. I had flattened everything that I could just in case.
We are off to the city for an appointment for hubby. Dogs are being left home with the neighbours coming over to let them out. We don't like leaving them home but in this hot weather they are much better. The area where we are going has been 29 days covid free so that take a bit of worry off.
Jane, I have told David that if we do get a bumper crop of pumpkins he will be the recipient of many. She will can them down for pies plus his 2 great danes love pumpkin on their food. These vines have taken over!! Underneath the umbrella like leaves are my beans!! Thank you for explaining the "pumpkins" for me.
Jenny,I have not seen blossoms this big....they don't last long but are so delicate and pretty to see. No tornado this way but other areas had wind damage with trees/limbs down.
Gloria, a cloudy day here and I hope it stays that way till we get back home. Just wish it was cooler.
Better get moving.
Enjoy your day everyone stay safe.
Good morning everyone. This is about the only time of the day I would go outside and walk around. I do miss doing that but if I lived out where no one could see me like my daughter does I would go out with my robe over my jammies and slippers on and get fresh air and walking in. Of course here we cannot even go out into the hallway dressed like that. Oh Gloria, stop complaining !!
BUBBLE thank you for the ride to Photos.
AMY those blossoms look huge. Hope you get a squash/pumpkin for each blossom.
ROSEMARY glad you enjoyed your walk. Hard to believe something still standing from the middle ages. Also too sad to see the castle going to ruin. 59 would be perfect temperature for me.
JENNY if I did not run my AC all night it would be too hot to sleep. Humidity rises at night and the wind is just about calm most nights, no cool breeze. Then the heat rises from the black top parking lot and my apartment faces the parking lot.
JANE I like squash pie but not pumpkin. Might be the different spices. I have tried pumpkin different ways and just do not like the taste/flavor but I like all the different squashes except the spaghetti one.
LLOYD hope you slept good last night.
AMY like you I wish it was much cooler here. too.
Just saw on the news -they had some snow on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, highest place in our New England states.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This will be a quick one because it's almost time for the boinger!
GLORIA, technically, the "crook neck pumpkin" is a Pumpkin Squash, so I bet you'd like a pie made with this one!
I hope you all have a great day and I hope none of you FRY! It's gonna be another hot one here and I'm not in favor of that.
AMY, safe trip to the city and good news from the Dr. is my wish for you and Kyle. Good idea to leave the pups behind. I don't think I'd like fried doggie for lunch!
Enjoy your day everyone! Make the most of it!
Good Morning everyone.we Had a thunder boomer a while ago, but only 3 tenths here but more not too far around. Gloria thanks and i did have a good sleep. slow to get my head to relax and clear, but when it did i slept very well. is 72º and cloudy so maybe we will got a little more. Hope you all get a day just like you like.
Lloyd
Denver I can't fiend your post. they scolded me about putting My email on here. maybe my grand daughter can when she gets home she can fiend it for me.she has a lot more savey than i do any more.
Lloyd
Good morning. Another HOT day coming along today.
Nothing going on in my little corner of the world. Today it is supposed to be 100 degrees.
I need to get moving along. Today is hair appointment day !
Stay safe and have a good day.
Joy
I'm amazed at the size of the squash/crook neck blossoms. Hope you are ready to tackle the punkin's when they ripen, Amy. They aren't easy to fix but are worth all the trouble.
Supposed to be the hottest day of the year here with, maybe, afternoon storms. That's all I'm going to say about that!
I loved the description of your walk near and through the castle ruins, Rosemary. Sounds lovely.
I'm staying in and trying to stay cool. Wishing the same for all of you.
Merry Monday,
Amy and Janie, Either :kitten: or :dog3: as long as I don't have to have tuna for breakfast. Out all night carousing?? :dontknow:...maybe if I could remember how!.
Rosemary, I do so enjoy reading your cheerful posts about the area in which you live. I've been from Wales to Inverness and back down through Perth and Edinburgh to York and then through England. Most of us on the tour had read Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" and were thrilled when our tour guide and bus driver offered to spend their Inverness afternoon off to take those who were interested out to Culloden. I bought my copy of the first book in the series in the gift shop there. I thought her research must have been good if it was on sale there.. The title is "Cross Stitch" instead of "Outlander", as it is in the USA.
Have done the usual morning routine. Off to find something useful to do....or not. :D
good Morning everyone. Local weather here is 74º and partly cloudy going for partly sunny and 84º. most likely will go higher did yesterday, with same forecast. Have a good day as you all like I hope.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, today is to be cooler only 89 in the forecast. Yesterday even Yvette complained about the heat and humidity.
JANE I might like that crook neck but my days of doing a pie with one are so over. At one time cleaning one and cooking it would have been something I would enjoy doing. now at times I feel really useless. With the humidity and dew point so high I think we boil/simmer but with it so dry where my daughter is they either fry or dry up.
LLOYD a prefect day for me would be no warmer than 75 with a cool breeze.
JOY we have not hit 100 but yesterday it felt like 102. With the humidity we have been having I am glad I do not have to go out anywhere.
PHYLLIS with the heat and the sun I will not go out of my cool apartment.
CALLIE I have been over the border in Maine into Canada and over the border in San Diego into Mexico. That is my international traveling.
AMY I beat you int this morning? Hope you have a great day.
Have a good day and keep cool and safe.
Good morning everyone.
We are into breaking weather so they say...not impressed with that! Trip and appointment went well. I did get my running shoes...two pair so I am good for a few years. I wear these all the time except when the snow is too deep. On the way to the city we saw some wind damage from the storm from the other night. In town we saw trees and limbs down in a cemetery, didn't see any headstone damage though.
Today is take the van in the abs lights are on and need it fixed. Back to sewing after that.
Need to get moving and get things done before the day heats up......
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.
Good morning Gloria, you were posting while I was typing . :)
Good Morning Everyfriend! I feel better today than I did yesterday. I think the "tireds" caught up with me yesterday. I've finally reached a point with the two-room changeover that I can live with it. There are still two boxes in the living room that have to move but they contain books and videos that need a place of their own and I've ordered a book case that I'm pretty sure will hold all of them. They will sit until the bookcase comes and is assembled.
I went to bed last night at 10:30 and for the first 5 hours I slept soundly. I do feel better this morning. I realized as I was getting into bed that I hadn't said "good night" to my friends in here. But I was too tired to go back.
Now the boinger is going off and it's time for breakfast. So I wish you all a pleasant day. Make it your own in every way!
Morning all!
It is another fine day here, but quite cool. I was planning to walk with my friend but now i have to take my husband to see the GP practice nurse as he seems to have an infected finger. He must have got something in it when he was decorating on Sunday. He also decided (without telling me OF COURSE) to try to get whatever it is out by poking it with a safety pin. This is someone with a PhD. My sympathy has been somewhat limited...
Anyway, we are off there in a minute - hopefully they will give him antibiotics (you cannot buy these in the UK without a doctor's prescription, which is no doubt a good thing as we are always being told they are overused and everything is becoming resistant to them.)
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Rosemary
Gloria - I forgot to say, Dunottar Castle is indeed mostly ruined, but it is very well looked after - it is actually still in private ownership, but the owners do keep it in good condition. I suppose it was ruined many hundreds of years ago - it's been there a very long time!
Rosemary
Rosemary, my daughter has been all over the world (company expense) and only place she really wants to go back to is Scotland. She loved the visit/stay at Balmoral Hotel in Edinborough, especially tea time. They did travel together to Hawaii and want to repeat that trip. Her husband traveled the world because of his father's occupation, graduated from the American School so attend those reunions when in the US. His one bucket list is a safari. He is still working and not sure when he will retire. By the way, in case you weren't around the many times I've recommended people "soak in Epsom salt"... sure fix for that infected finger. Can't tell you how many times I've used it for so many reasons (including a brown spider bite). It even cured a that spider bite & I have no scar, totally amazed my doctor after their antibiotic shot & round of prednisone did nothing to help. I keep a box on hand, even in the RV & use it for aches & pains or infections. Easiest way is to soak a washcloth for the thumbm wrap around the finger, put the hand in a plastic grocery bag and then the heat pad on low, watch TV for an hour or so & watch the icky stuff just pull out of the sore. End of doctor call...........
Right now we are all holding our breath because their youngest daughter (pushing 30) tested positive for the virus and in the few days since, tested positive for blood clots in her legs so on blood thinners. We are all calculating just when we were together. She didn't make it to the 4th of July party but her parents & brother were with her and we were all with them. It will be a wait & see period, each getting tested if needed. I don't think I was exposed so not really concerned for myself. Both she & her oldest brother were exposed at work but never a sure thing, her oldest brother hasn't been tested yet and her youngest is waiting for test results, if either come back positive it will be a whole different ball game because we were all at his house for the 4th. I think that puts us out of danger since it was more than 2 weeks ago. I have turned off my worry mode and will let the others decide if I am exposed, they are all concerned about me but my kids & spouses are in that age group with me! ;)
We had a little rain last night. I slept through, but Tiger was inside, on my bed & kept waking me up. It is "oak mite" season so cats are doing a lot of scratching. Think it is time to put that stuff on their necks again. It doesn't mention chiggers on the box so guess I won't use it on me. I have bites that are so like chigger bites but I didn't think we had them in Kansas. Been told by 2 native Kansans that we do have them here. Woe is me, I found 'em!
Gloria, yes, I'm wishing my life away in hopes we have an early fall & winter. Bring it on!
Callie, only one of the cats liked tuna at first, until I brought home a can in oil. They love that so guess they must have been needing the oil. Now I'm searching for a sale like I got the other, Chicken of the Sea for 50¢ per can. They get each a serving twice out of one can, cheapest meal of the day for them! By the way, Callie was already named before she moved in with me. We called her Lily because of her tiny white feet, but the neighbor that fed her for a few years before they moved decided since she was a calico, she should be Callie. She recognizes her name so I didn't try to change it.
Must get busy & eat, need to make a trip to Sam's Club today. Also need to vac the pool after adding a little water. These hot temps & wind suck the water right out of the pool. The neighbor's locust tree has a lot of dead leaves on it so already having to dip & vac those out. They must be the fastest growing trees of all time and for sure are the worst to dump into the pool. Hope all have a great day, make someone smile!
I got my car back today! And Frankie has a much newer, much nicer one!
Shirley, oh, I knew where Callie-the-Cat got her name. Have been waiting for a good time to smart off to you; the "tuna for breakfast" was just too good to resist.
Callie is actually the name my grandmother was known by. When I tried to find her obituary on line using her real name I discovered "Callie" is even on it.
Chiggers attack me every time I step off my patio! Finally discovered that Deep Woods Off keeps them away - as well as the black biting flies. I even spray down into my shoes after I had a bite on one of my toes - even through socks and shoes.
Jane, Hooray for the return of the car!
Had a productive morning doing errands and am now "helping" the housekeeper by Staying Out Of Her Way.
Hope it's a Terrific Tuesday for Everyfriend.
I'm going to be off to bed soon so I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow! And may God bless us, every one!
Good evening.
Busy day here.....laundry and shopping. A storm moved in and the heat dissipated and we now have the doors and windows open and are enjoying the nice fresh air.
SHIRLEY, I am sorry to read about your granddaughter. I hope the blood thinners do the job and the blood clots will not be a major issue. Prayers for all of the family that no one else will test positive.
JANE, happy for you to have your car back and super happy for Frankie that she now has her own car.
LLOYD, I sent you a email with my email address in it. Did you get it?
AMY, good to read that the trip to the city went well. Nice that you are all set for awhile with your two new sets of running shoes😘. The way you are always running though I am not sure how long those sneaker will last🤪🤪
Have a good evening,
Jenny
Denver I just checked and still no email there . I will most likely get scolded for this but my email address is all lower case (bluweb37 @ gmail.com ) not my name like i use here. hope you get this before it is deleted. Maybe you can highlite cope and paste it in your address book.
Lloyd
Good morning all :)
Thanks Shirley for your advice, which I have passed on to The Invalid. And I do hope your granddaughter is soon feeling better, and indeed that the rest of you haven't caught anything. I'm sure 14 days is meant to be the very longest possible incubation period and that most people seem to develop symptoms within 4-5 days, so I really hope that puts you in the clear at least.
It's a dreich old day here so far. This afternoon I have to 'attend' an online preview of a new exhibition at the Queen's Gallery in Edinburgh. The gallery is attached to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official residence in the city. The exhibition is called Eastern Encounters, and will showcase things from the Indian subcontinent that are held in the Royal Collections. These collections are massive, most of the stuff is in storage and it is quite controversial, as it seems that whenever another gallery asks to borrow anything for their own exhibitions, RC are very, very reluctant to lend them out, even though these collections really belong to the taxpayers. When challenged, they come back with excuses like 'The Queen would miss them' - which is total nonsense. There is another Queen's Gallery in London (attached to Buckingham Palace) and one journalist saw stacks of paintings just left in a side room there, one on top of one another. Anyway, putting that aside, they do usually put on good exhibitions and normally I would go to the press preview in person - I still could have done this (so few people turn up that it would not be difficult to keep one's distance) but as I am still in Aberdeenshire I am attending remotely.
I hope everyone has a good day,
Rosemary
Good morning everyone..
Yesterday I spent most of the morning on he phone...first talking with a nice fellow in South America...he wouldn't pin point the area. Then a lady in the Caribbean's on to another fellow in Guatemala...travelled without leaving home. :) Hope the problem is resolved but we shall see.
The afternoon was spent at the garage, my abs lights were on all the time , trouble getting to area to repair resulted in me calling the neighbour for a ride home while they worked on the van. Hope to get the van back today.
Lots to do as not much got accomplished in the house..would like to drain the hot tub and fill back up too.
Shirley, prayers for you granddaughter..we are under mandatory mask rule here and I did hear the city that we go to is also going to masks when inside buildings.
Jenny, is there ever a day ,a whole day that the laundry basket is empty?
Jane, nice to have your wheels back!
Gloria, we are 64° at the moment heading to fry temps later on today and getting hotter at the week goes by. Calling for rain
which is badly needed still.
Phyliss, neighbour brought the custard bowl back and she said even her husband liked it!!
Joy, good morning to you..
Better get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good morning everyone, well the heat wave should now be over, only in the upper 80's today and humidity not as high. Will see how right local forecasters are.
AMY glad the appointment went good yesterday. Hooray you got your shoes and 2 pair to wear now.
JANE with all you have been doing moving 2 rooms around it is no wonder you slept good for at least 5 hours. The llast few nights I have been going to bed and it was still light out and slept till 5 am. Feel rested when I woke, too.
ROSEMARY hope your husband's finger in OK now. I have a grandson who went to Ireland for the company he works for and took many pictures and all those old buildings and castles. Fascinating.
SHIRLEY prayers that you and most of yo ur family are spared this &%&%& virus. So far I thank
God my family is all OK so far. Out governor wants to open schools the end of August ad a lot of parents say they will keep their kids home. Too dangerous to have all those kids together even with masks on. We do think alike about autumn and want it on the first hot day in the spring.
JANE glad you have your dcar back. Now y ou can take off any time you want to. I still miss not having a car and the independence I had.
JENNY love the new avatar of your litle one. Such a good looking boy and love that smile and rosey cheecks.
Imagine having years of beautiful art and jewelry that it is piled p and you never even see it.
Have a good day and stay safe.
This is going to be a quick GOOD MORNING Everyfriend! The dog food is making and when the beeper goes, I have to do the next step so I can feed Mickie when the boinger goes. Seems I live to answers beeps, boings, gongs, and any sound that can come from a stove, phone or timer.
I hope you all have a great day, avoid illness, get over whatever is bothering you, walk a new path (or an old one) and just plain enjoy your day!
Good morning. Just checking in to let you know I'm still around. Everything here is the same...weather, humidity, etc......all the same. Virus numbers are going up again. All of the public schools will be online for at least the first six weeks of the new school year. Some of the private schools are closing down completely. Everyone is having a difficult time.
Stay well, Everyone.
A early evening HELLO to all.
Our day started off great. Boston son and two grandson's who are here staying at their mountain home in Vail, came down to spend some time with us. We had a wonderful visit and had lunch together out at one of our favorite Pho Restaurants. I had a lunch planned but they insisted they really wanted to go for a nice bowl of noodle soup. They are on their way back to Vail now😩, but it was wonderful to be together.
I have not heard yet how Michele's last chemo went today, but it was a very hard lead up to it for her. Bless her heart she is just DONE with the awful effect it has on her......as anyone would be. This is her third time of completing the grueling 12 weeks of treatments done over 24 weeks. 😩😥 I can not thank you all AGAIN for your continued support and prayers for her over the past couple of years🙏🙏
LLOYD, I have sent you another email message! Hope you get it.
GLORIA, thank you for noticing the new avatar of my boy!
AMY, I hope you got your van back today. No, the laundry basket is never empty....or at least not for long😩😩 I saw a friends trug and it sure did not match up to your Kyles! None of them ever will, I suppose! 😘😘.
Nice to see your post Phyllis.
I wish you ALL a good rest of your evening.
Jenny
Hello, Everyfriend! This was one of THOSE days around here. Always busy and not much getting done. I guess the one thing that counted was 3 loads of laundry washed, dryed, folded and put away. Also, managed to try a new recipe for dinner and it was really good! Watered the plants. Mickie took me for 3 nice walks, too.
We had a bit of rain around noon or so. It didn't do much for the dry grass but it did cool things down a bit. The temps dipped to the high 70s with a light breeze and clouds to hide the hot sun. It's only 75 right now and that suits me fine.
My son took advantage of the cooler weather and cut my grass today. Of course the weeds were outdoing the grass and I'm sure glad to see them going. I always wonder why the weeds can continue to be so healthy when the grass just dries up and fades away?
JENNY, Michele is still on my church's prayer list. I asked them to just keep her there until she's out of danger and doesn't need prayers any more. And the notation says, "Michele and family" and that means ALL of you!
I'm going to be off to bed in a bit so I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one.
Peter Winstanley thanks I got your picture. but when I tried to reply it said ear.

Good morning everyone..
We had a nice rain last night ,soaking into the ground not one that lays on top. I did get my vehicle back and it is nice to have wheels again. With the day being mixed up a lot of my work didn't get done but I have an early start on it today.
Bubble, thank you for posting the photo..
Jane, I was thinking the same thing when I looked across the lawn last night, bright green and healthy were the weed and dry brown and crispy was the grass. Now with the bit of rain we have had it is slowly coming back to life.
Jenny, I think Kyle has a break in making the trugs..so far he has done 11 with orders for 3 more come Spring. This is a far cry from the work we use to do but it keeps him busy.
Gloria, I would like the temp to be around 70° that is good working weather.
Lloyd, did you check your spam folder? Maybe Jenny's email went in there??
Ok, up and at'em
Enjoy your day everyone
Stay safe.
Good morning every one. We had a new paper under the door yesterday. We are all getting two fully cooked frozen chickins today. There is a chicken farm in town that serves up family style fried chicken family style dinners with all the trimmings. People come from all over the food is that good. They are doiong this chicken to all the senior homes. There are 3 in town so they will have to get lot of chickens cooked and get frozen to deliver today. I have eaten at that restaurant several times and the food was always wonderful. Yesterday Yvette checked out the freezer in the fridge to make sure they would fir in there.
JANE glad I do not have to anser to all those bells and beeps that you do. That would be like working again. I like being retired with no time clock to puynch a card in anymore. We had a little rain yesterday, cloudy all day but still hit 91 even with no sun.
PHYLLIS schools here the governor want open the end of August but with this virus going up again parents say they will keep their kids home and safe.
JENNY I know you enjoyed being with your son and 2 grands for part of a day. Like you I wish I could be with my daughter and SIL and my 2 oldest grandsons who both still live in San Diego. My prayers go up for Michele. I feel so bad for her and the family.
AMY 70 is a good temperature and nights no higher than 65 so it is cool enough to sleep.
Take care everyone and stay cool and safe.
Message for Lloyd: Sorry Lloyd, i do not understand your message, i have not sent any pictures to you, apart from the odd cartoon, just to let you know that i am still alive ! :) , as far as i know i have no problems with the PC at the moment !,perhaps one of those little 'gremlins' is playing his tricks again ? :), re-try perhaps you may have made a mistake in my email address ?, good luck and stay safe. Peter.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and (sort of) attem this morning. Mickie's been out and had her pill and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast. After that, we'll have our first walk and then I'm going to go see if my favorite Amish farmer has his stand open. I'm also going to check for the one who takes newspaper. I have no idea what he uses it for but he definitely recycles. And I might stop at the car wash on the way.
Then I have one pile of boxes to label and I've promised myself to go though one of them a day....there's 4 in the pile. Somewhere in there, is another short walk with Mickie and then a NAP....I hope!
GLORIA, that's great about the chicken! That will not only save you some money, it'll save you some time and it'll be there whenever you want it.
Gotta go! It's time for the boinger and my day begins! I hope you all have a lovely day...Make it your own in every way. And don't forget to share it with your friends!
Good morning. I've not been in a very good mood lately. For some reason the heat has bothered me even more than usual this year. It was still 82 deg. when I went to bed at 10:30 last night. I have a ceiling fan and a small floor fan running all night in my bed room as well as the all house air conditioning and still do not rest comfortably. So, that puts me in a cranky mood and I apologize for that. I'm going to try to remedy that today.
I'm waiting on a call from the grocery store asking me if this or that substitute will be alright. Nothing so far so it might be that I will get everything that I ordered. David will pick the order up at just before noon.
That is a nice gesture, Gloria, for that farm to donate all that chicken. So many people are doing nice things during these bad times. I know you will enjoy it.
Have a good day, Everyone. Stay cool, stay safe.
Good Morning Everyone
from the cooler and sunny
rocky coast of Maine..
phyllis ...
I think that we are all a
bit flummoxed during this Covid
epidemic on top of it being a
politically up set time in our
lives.
The two are just too MUCH!!!
I try to start each day believing
that something good is going to
happen. And that usually ends up
being a call from my good friend vicki.
We cheer each other up and also
blow off steam, which is very
helpful..
Have a good day, everyone!
And stay safe!!
Sandy
The hot tub is done and now heating back up ,so far the temp is 62 ° too cold for me...will wait till it hit 98 or so.
Jane, this new rain we had must have pleased the pumpkins as they are now taking over!! Tis fun to watch how they go, blossom and hopefully produce!
Phyllis, hope your day is going better..maybe a laugh or two
to help.
Sandy, this is a trying time for all. I can really blow off steam at those that take this lightly, don't wear masks and don't self isolate. No respect for others or themselves.
Better go get the tea on..
Mickie's been favoring her back right leg for about 2 weeks now so I took her to the Vet today. They did a lot of feeling around and then xrayed it and there isn't anything broken. The vet came to the same conclusion I did that she probably twisted it when she jumped up or down from something. I'm not supposed to let her jump up or down and no walks for two weeks. She also gave us pain pills to be taken every 12 hours. As for the jumping up and down, that's going to be hard to control. It's her favorite thing to do inside the house. And our walks are something we both like. Maybe I'll just do down to the corner and back a couple times. It really hurts when the doggies hurt because they can't tell us about it.
Now I'm off to bed! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one.
P.S. Phyllis, I've had days when I had a bad case of the "screamin' meanies and I wish you a better day tomorrow. I know how that can be!
Phyllis, maybe you've hit on a point we all need to think about... doing nice things for others right now. I know I have been self centered lately & have done a lot of whining. Nobody wants to hear whining. Our temps have been unbearable this year. Never liked summer but this year my AC has stayed on day & night. Never before because usually nights were cool enough that having the slider open was perfect. I used to stay up working nights but can't stay awake anymore, maybe lazy??? Been quite a few mornings I've had to be ready for yard guys, trash guys or even a son to come by... so I crash & nap when ever I get a chance. The new normal.
Sandy, I have a friend that for 40+ years we had a Monday Morning "how did your week end go" griping session. She had a husband that honestly couldn't screw in a lightbulb without the fixture falling down and mine was a work-a-holic so I didn't sit down the entire week end. They mellowed over the years and died about a year apart, but we still stay connected and like you, cheer each other up. I am 10 days older than her so we spend the year looking for the funniest birthday cards we can find.
Jane, so sorry about the pup. Know you will do what's best and "what's best" is probably those walks you take together. She will know what hurts and probably you won't have to warn her about the jumping. I'm sure you will know when to give her a pain pill... trouble with those she won't realize she is hurting herself if numbed up. We can't help but worry about our fur babies. Tom has me concerned because he looks so skinny & eats like a horse. But I'm sure he is running off any fat & I could build another cat from what hair I brush off him... They are all outside most of the time because they want to be, do their hunting at night which is normal for them. They are feral and I don't control them so have to accept their way of life. Trust your instincts about what's good for Mickie.
Oh, good news, the other grands tested negative for the virus and since the one that tested positive doesn't have any of the runny nose or fever, I'm pushing for her to get re-tested. She is a weight lifter & my opinion (which doesn't really count) those blood clots could be from weight lifting or any other activity. She is very competetive so pushes herself no matter what she does. At least everyone else seems to be okay but sure put everyone on alert for a while.
I may do a load of laundry before going to bed. We had a power outage one day this week, I'm sure the whole system is pushed to the limit so maybe need to do what I can. My dryer is gas but still uses some electricity for the timer, etc, doesn't it? Probably wouldn't hurt to do a little ironing while the clothes run their cycles. Good idea, Shirley EDIT: 11:20 pm, 84° but feels like 90° .. pure misery!
Just dropping to see how everyones day went.
JANE, sorry to read about Mickie' s sore leg. Happy the vet did not think it is anything serious.
SHIRLEY, good to read no ones else tested positive for the virus.
Good night and sweet dreams to EVERYFRIEND.
Jenny
Good morning everyone, well we did hit 91 yeste rday and we did have some rain in the late afternoon. Not enough to clear the air and still humid. Already 70 to start the day yuck. I think I will ask my grandson if he can get me a new keyboard. I am tired of this one skipping spaces and back spacing to get words together. I don't know how many I have missed.
A market in the next town had a big pork sale that started yesterday so Yvette went, Got a boneless loin, will have my son cut me a roast from it and give him the rest of it. I also got a pork butt for him. He likes making pulled pork so that will come in handy for him. I did get the 2 frozen chickens now hope I have room in the freezer for some of the pork loin in it. Nex t week we will get out farmers coupons. $15 in each booklet and we have been getting 2 of them the last 3 years. Comes in handy at my favorite farm.
JANE the chickens look small, not those big fat ones that are fed all kinds of hormones an stuff they don't need.
PHYLLIS that restaurant is a very busy one. With this lock down and no one going to there they had a surplus of chickens. Their chicken is always tender and tasty and they serve several sides with it. Never leave there hungry. I think many of us are getting cranky.
JANE hope Mickie can learn to stop jumping but once the do the jumping on things it is hard to stop them.
SHIRLEY YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS NAPS ALL DAY. Again I locked the caps on. When my back starts hurting will lay on the couch to rest it for a few minutes and fall asleep, maybe 10 minutes or an hour. For me I think it is boredom.
JENNY hello.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone..
Going to be another hot humid day. Will get the work done before it gets too bad. Managed to get the hot tub drained and back up ,two loads of laundry done ,ironed and put away. Today is wash floors after I sweep up the makings of another dog or two.
Jane, that is a difficult job keeping a dog from jumping....good luck with that!
Shirley that is great news on the grands. One never stops worrying though..
Better get cracking...
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe
Good Morning everyone. it Is already 74º and steamy, going into the 90's.
so I am going to be couch jockey again today. stay in and stay by A C.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I got up and stuck close to the bed until Mickie decided it was time to get down and I was quick enough to lift her down. So far so good this morning. In a few minutes we're going to go out and walk down to the corner and back. She really likes going out in the morning and I can't totally deny her that.
Don't know what I'll be up to today. We'll just see what comes. I think Frankie is coming over this afternoon for a while. She's going to take over for my cleaning lady and see how it works out. We've decided to try it and both of us will take suggestions and if it doesn't work we'll say so. She needs the money and I need the help.
PHYLLIS, I hope your snit is over and it's a better day.
GLORIA, sounds like you'll be eating well for a while!
SHIRLEY, Hooray! the family is OK!
Now I'm off to see what I can get into. I think I have a form to fill out if I can find it! I do dislike filling out forms! I sure hope they don't have forms in heaven!
I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to share it with your dear, but nosey friends on S&F ;D
Yes, Jane, I think the "snit" (good word) is over, or nearly, for now. I slept better last night because it was cooler and that should make a difference.
Hope Mickie's leg is doing better. We had a mini-dachshund, Charlie Brown, who typically developed spinal problems. The vet said he must not jump up or down on things and we would have to carry him up or down the stairs. It took maybe twice of us lifting and carrying him for him to learn he liked that a lot. From then on he would stop and wait for us to lift and carry him wherever he wanted to go. Even after his back healed. ;D He was the smartest little dog I have ever known.
Stay well....stay cool.
Our Police Department put on a "Senior Wellness & Safety Relief Program" for 55 & older. It was a drive-thru event, they allotted 9:00 to 11:00 AM. I was all hyped to go this morning, but woke up with my vertigo nearly dumping me on the floor. I decided I didn't need to drive. Anyway, they were giving boxes with mask, sanitizer, TP, toothbrush/toothpaste, protein bars First Aid Kits, gloves, and mosquito repellent. Also, a free box lunch while supplies lasted. I guess my inner ear knew best, as I got word on our NextDoor site that they had given away 400 of the 500 boxes, shortly after 9:00 AM, and the line was awful, people got there early to score the "loot" and it ran out. Already people on NextDoor are griping (if you can believe it) that it was a poorly planned event and they should have....yadda yadda yadda. I say to whomever said that, "you plan and provide for the next one". I'm certain that the folk who got there early enough to get a box are very appreciative. I know I would have been. I had planned to get there at 8:00, but just as well I didn't try.
I had a nice surprise yesterday, my neighbor texted me, did I want a gallon of milk, fruit. I told her I had just bought milk, and would never, ever need a whole gallon of it; and that I could use the peaches, oranges, and bagged carrots. They brought that over, and I was so thankful. I don't buy much fruit, can't eat apples, and grocery store is in a "bagged" niche with the oranges, peaches, and I never buy bags of anything (maybe potatoes)! Seems like some of us are enjoying the "kindness of strangers" (neighbors) offering various help.
Gonna be another hot one here today!
good afternoon, it is 94º @2:11 P M and bright sun. the Humming birds are staying busy at the feeder. I am staying cool by the A C. I did step out on the deck and just took second, the sun relay burns. don't know how the birds stand it. the cows go stand in the pond coverd all except there heads. stay in ans stay cool,
Lloyd
Well, I don't know where this day went! I was busy all day and there's nothing to show for it. Oh yes, I did get the form filled out and it's ready to mail in. Cathy is going to pick it up tomorrow and take it to work with her Monday and make copies of everything and then mail it and bring me the copies. So that's one thing.
Mickie's leg seemed better this morning but tonight she's really favoring it again. It seems to come and go. PHYLLIS, Mickie does not like to be lifted....EVER! She wants to do it herself even when she obviously can't. I have trouble making her wait while I get in position to help her on the steps. She's and independent little cuss!
We're going to make one more foray into the yard and then it's off to bed with us. I did have a nice face time visit with my Maryland daughter this afternoon. We talked for about an hour about anything and everything.
Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Good Morning everyone. Holden weather says it is 76º now and going for 93º likely will go higher than that as it did yesterday. sure hope it misses and cools off, so I can get motivated and go to the shop, Nancy Is getting cranky with me in the house. I do not know how I used to stand the heat like i used to. I worked when it was 110º in the shade at the forge heating and hammering plow shears sharp and forge, welding new points on them. and making new horseshoes and putting them on the horse. I tell Nancy I have paid my dues, but she don't want to except that idea. you all have a great and stay in the cool.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone..
Another day that makes one want to work double time while it is still cool. Yesterday one could hardly draw a breath it was so hot. I did manage to get a lot done ,even tried a new recipe for Blueberry cobbler that was quite nice. Did a deep clean plus washed floors. Washed all the stuffed animals (dog toys) and hung them on the line :)
Today ,need to go in town to pick up some items for my friend and then home to ??? toss up of more deep cleaning or baking??
Jane, Kyle built a step for Golden girl to use to get up into bed. He also built a set of steps for a friends dog to get up into his bed. I just looked to see at Wayfair and Petsmart how much they are and mercy they can be costly. If you have a Craigslist?? or something similar may be able to pick up one there . I did buy GG a ramp to get up into the van but she didn't like it. :(
Lloyd, I chuckled at your post..your stuck between hot weather and hot tongue and maybe cold shoulder!! :2funny: You know Nancy just loves the dickens out of you..
Gloria, good thing about the small chicken is your not eating it forever. Will Yvette make soup if you save the bones for you?
Better git while I can...
Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My boinger just went off for breakfast and a pill for Mickie so this will be short. We're in for 3 days of boiling hot weather coming up! I have to go to the recycling today and my plan is to go as soon as Cathy appears with my groceries. I'm going to as her when she's going. I might go as soon as we have breakfast.
AMY, I don't think Mickie could have even done a ramp last night or this morning. She's really hurting. I hope the pain pill gives her some relief.
LLOYD are you testing Nancy's patience again!
I guess I better go get us some breakfast and get this day moving! I wish you all a special day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to share it with all of us!
Good morning everyone, have not slept this late in a long time. My son called last night and said he would be here at 8:30 this morning, before the heat sets in. Here it is 8 already so this will be a short post. Need my coffee and get dressed before he is here.I know he is my son but do not like anyone seeing me in my nighty and robe.
After the chickens we re delivered Yvette went to the market, some good buys and we know how fast they are cleaned out these days. When she came back she said she could already smell chicken cooking in the hallways. She got me a nice boneless pork loin and I have been longing for a pork roast, that's the French in me. I do have some home made applesauce in the freezer and coo cranberries I cooked in the fall that will be good with the chicken.
That's it for me. Coffee is finished and have to get moving.
Have a good day and stay cool and safe.
I made some apple sauce yesterday, too, and we really enjoyed it last night for dinner. I ordered a bag of Granny Smith apples and they were so big and nice and made an extra large amount of sauce. We will enjoy it for several days. I also have some thick boneless pork chops in the freezer and will cook a couple of those for dinner tomorrow. Pork and applesauce are just made for each other, aren't they?
Yesterday was a little cooler but the humidity was still very high with afternoon thunderstorms. Today it will be back up into the 90's, high humidity, and more thunderstorms. <sigh>
I was lucky enough to get a new ebook that I had reserved from the library so I'll probably spend the afternoon reading. Thank goodness, I can still do that. It helps pass the days.
Take care, All.
Good morning & I'm going back to bed! Wake me when summer is over. >:( :P :-\ :'(
Shirley Please send me email the Name of the person you said I should send the copy of tomorrow to. i need the snail mail address.
Lloyd
good Night everyone.
It was a pretty good day today even if we didn't get our walks and I think Mickie's leg/hip is a bit better. She's started following me around the house again. But she still favors it pretty much. I humor her with short walks past the neighbor's house and back home. I think it might be all she wants right now.
I made some chicken salad this morning and had a great chicken salad sandwich for lunch with fresh cantelope for dessert.
PHYLLIS, you're right about the pork and applesauce and my favorite for making applesauce is Granny Smith apples.
SHIRLEY, I don't think you should sleep until Fall. There's too much to do around your house what with the pool, feeding the fish, pulling weeds and not to forget the kitties. DO YOU HEAR ME? GET UP TOMORROW MORNING!
GOOD NIGHT, LLOYD. Sleep well
And now I'm off to Dreamland. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, Healthy tomorrow! And may God bless us, every one!
I'm up but it looks like no one else is. And I don't like talking to myself! Later, friends!
Good morning everyone..
It was a very productive day yesterday, the oil was changed in the generator, lawn mower and the snow blower. Neighbour gave me a "look" when I had the snowblower out saying PUT THAT AWAY!!
Today is a day of rest....other than sewing and meals that is it for me...I hope.
Jane, tis ok to talk to yourself......just don't answer back!!
I keep looking for wee pumpkins but it is more lie a forest in there! Bees are a buzzin so I know there should be pumpkins. Same with the cucumbers, they have also taken over the garden. I am going to try a new recipe on dills and will let you know how it works out.
Phyllis, I am another one that loves applesauce with my pork. Hmmm may look for a pork roast and have that today??
Gloria, hope you had a nice visit with your son. When I am up, I am dressed. Not one to lounge all day in pj's unless I am not well.
Better git...I slept in and just remembered we have to take the garbage away..
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.
Good morning everyone. JaneS you and AMY are here and I just got up and am here,
I went to bed at about 9:30 PM lots of nature call through the night and have a sinus or allegory drainage big time this morning. other wise feel good. sun is up bright and 76º says it is going for 92º. will likely go higher than that, it has for several days in a row now. stay in and stay comfortable. Have a good day.
Nancy is going to our regular church today, and not wore about the virus. Hope she dose the comfortable distancing,
Lloyd
I am setting here watching the humming Birds, there are three females fighting over the feeder. there are enough feeding spaces for all three to set down and feed at once, but no they would rather fight.
Lloyd
I've been up since about 6 o'clock but just sat and leisurely enjoyed my cup of coffee and then got caught in reading a little bit. All is well here. We had more thunderstorms and it rained like the dickens for a little while yesterday late afternoon. The wind blew hard for a few minutes but didn't seem to do any damage here except to bring down a lot of leaves, twigs, and pine needles. Sunny and hot again today.
Nothing planned except I'm toying with going down to the shopping center a few blocks away to see about a new ice cream place that opened last week. Everyone is raving about it and good ice cream on a hot, muggy day sounds so good to me. The owner is local and I think the small businesses need all the help they can get right now. They need us and we need them.
Take care, Everyone.
Good morning everyonesual routine this morning, got dressed and went outside just as the sun came over this building. Was not bad then and it felt good to walk around the parking lot again. Maybe I should do that every morning when I wake early. Now I really am enjoying my coffee.
Saw both sons yesterday. #2 was here when #1 came. One brought me some nice fruit and nice fresh tomatoes ( native from New Jersey) and the other brought both of us some summer squash and zucchini and cucumbers. If I had canning jars I would make some refrigerator pickles. Maybe I should say I would tell Yvette how to do it.
PHYLLIS I still have some applesauce in the freezer that I made last fall with some different varieties my son gave me. There was more apples than I could eat. Will go good with that pork loin.
SHIRLEY would you really like to sleep your life away till the weather finally cools? Not me and like you I hate this weather. Give me the winter.
JANE my favorite for applesauce and anything else like pie or crisp in a mix of varieties. Cannot have pork without applesauce, I grew up with my Mom always serving them together. Like cranberrries with chicken or turkey. I have some in the freezer that I cooked last year when they were in season.
AMY hope you do have a day of rest today, you sure deserve it. Now that my time is my own if I don't feel like getting dressed on the week ends I stay lazy.
LLOYD like you I like watching humminbirds and now they fight one another to have the feeder to themselves.
PHYLLIS been a long time since I went to an icecream store for a cone. I always have icecream in the freezer but not the same.
Have a good day and stay cool and safe.
Hello to all,
Just wanted to stop by and say Hello. It is a beautiful sunny summer day here. But, I think it is going to be hot.
I was reading until 4 a.m. It was a good book and I kept thinking just one more chapter. Then, it got too close to the end, so I finished it. Went to bed and slept until almost 9. Like most of us here, I can do that if I want to. LOL
I would love to have a nice sweet cantaloupe. I have had 2 so far this summer, and they were both so hard I couldn't eat them. They went bad before they ripened up. I don't know how to tell if they are ripe or not when I get them. I would love to get to a nice produce stand and see all the fresh things now. My DIL brought me some corn, and it was sweet, but tasted old. Kind of tough. She did bring me some good peaches, tho. I have to be grateful for what I get, I guess. Just wish I could pick up and just go myself.
Got to be looking for some lunch, and then see what I can get into. I still have to get dressed, as I want to go down to get my mail from yesterday. And, I think I will order pizza for this evening.
Hope everyone is handling all this mess ok. I feel like the walls are closing in on me. But, I guess it is what it is.
Take care of yourselves and be safe.
Joy
Good Night and sweet dreams everyone. it is 79º @ (9:36 PM) and got in the Mid 90' ty s.
Lloyd
Well, it took me a while to get back in here. I just kept seeing odds and ends to do and every time I thought I'd come in here, something else jumped out in my path.
JOY, there's a guy at the Farmer's Market that has cantelope and when I get it there I say to him, "Pick out one for me that I can eat right now". That way, I get the sweetest and the best one they have. I think he sees me coming. But the one I got the other day was from my favorite Amish farmer. He has a stand by a back road and it's always open with everything priced and a slot for the money. His stuff is ALWAYS good!
Mickie is still limping but I had a flash today while I was putting Arnica on my arm and I rubbed some on her hip and leg and I think it helped. I'm going to put more on when we go to bed and hope for some good from it.
I tried a new recipe today and it was really good. Pineapple and pork and rice and some good spices and sauces.
Now I'm off to the Land of Nod! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one.
Bed time so came in to tell y'all "SWEET DREAMS"..............89° but still feels like 97°. Fitbit said I got 2 hours & 46 min sleep last night so after church & breakfast with my son & wife, came home & slept off & on all day (between feeding cats). Cats prefer being outside so don't have anyone to disturb me. Don't know why I am so sleepy again, but maybe I can get these nights & days straight. Supposed to rain tonight but nothing on radar yet. Tomorrow is "mow day" so I got my weed whip & trimmed around a few sprinkler heads & the young trees that the mowers are kind of rough with. I nicked one myself so feel bad about that. Hugs to all and God Bless. Shirley
Good morning everyone, already 71 at 5:30 and will be the second day of another heatwave. Who needs that? Not me for sure.
JOY I gave up buying cantalope. Leave one on the counter to ripen and they get moldy, put it in the fridge and it is still hard.My daughter got me spoed withvine ripened ones that are so ripe that a bite just melts in your mouth. That was in San Diego. I would love to go to the farm I like and get produce i know is fresh. My son will get some things if I ask him oaturdays when he always visit me. He knows what I like and how I like it we both like fruit the same way. Like you I have stayed up all night to finish a good book.
LLOYD looks like most of the country is too hot.
JANE we used to have farmers around here like your Amish farmer but no more. The state must think they lost money that way and stopped all of them from opening up.
SHIRLEY wish you could sleep like I have been. I hit the pillow and am asleep fast and do not wake for at least 6 hours, sometimes more than 8 hours.
Goodness where is everyone? No AMY yet even. Hope she is having a good sleep.
Have a good day, stay cool and safe.
Good Morning everyone. we now @5:40 AM it is raining right on down here was badly needed here. old mother Hubbard is shaking the potato bin. Hard. Hope Shirley is getting all she needs before she let it come on our way. Hope you all are having a day just as you like it.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's going to be another HOT one here in Central PA. Supposed to hit the mid 90s. I think I'll stay inside today. Right now it's mid 70s and I could take a whole summer like this!
We need rain around here, too! It's so dry the grass crackles when you walk on it! Even Mickie doesn't like that!
Today is going to be a day of using up stuff that will spoil if it doesn't get cooked. I think the heat gets to the food too.
SHIRLEY, it looks like your body won't cooperate on letting you sleep until Fall. That sounds normal to me.
GLORIA, the cantelope I got from he Amish farmer was melt-in-your-mouth ripe! It was so good I couldn't stop eating it and I'm going out there later this week and get another one.
It's almost time for the boinger and breakfast so I'll wish you all a lovely day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to share it with your friends here!
Good morning everyone..
Looks like we did have some rain overnight. We did have a wee shower around 8 pm but it just wet the ground and not much else. Our friends dropped in yesterday to pick up "stuff" that we had pickled up for them and had a visit. Then it was down to the sewing room for most of the day. First though I put a pork roast on and got a jar of applesauce ready. Tasty!!
Today is paying bills then work around home...or sew. Will see which one wins out...all depends on how wet the area is that needs weeding.
Better move it..
Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.
The pork loin chops turned out so good with the homemade applesauce. I made some sweet potatoes with butter and maple syrup and had sliced fresh Carolina peaches for dessert. It was a success and just right for another hot day. I had intended to make a peach cobbler but decided I just couldn't use the oven on such a day.
Supposed to be even hotter today.
Laundry day and that is about all I intend to do.
Take care, All.
A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋
Our weekend passed with no activity to speak of. The temperaturas are down and with some cloud cover we did not even have to use the air at all. How delightful 😍
All the chatter about fresh fruit is making my mouth water for sure. We did get some pretty tasty peaches this past week to enjoy. Had fresh local corn 🌽 and it was OK, but not the best yet! I love cantaloupe and have yet to get one that was very good.....maybe soon.
We had a pork tenderloin cooked in our air fryer and it sure turned out yummy. I am liking the air fryer more and more. Things cook quickly and it is great to not have to turn on the big oven. Seems pork was a popular choice for many in here.
JANE, you did not mention how Mickie is doing with that sore hip/leg? I hope it is much better.
Not much more to comment on. I am waiting for a call back from my doctor. Have a little issue going and I am hopeful that he will be willing to call in a script for me. I really do not want to have to go in to his office😩
Enjoy the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND 💐
Jenny
Jenny : Good luck with your call to the doctor.
I am trying to find a place open for haircuts for both of us. Yikes - what a difficult thing this is turning out to be these days.
There is still a lot of anger in the streets and the rioters are getting by with terrible damage and hurting people - both the mayor and governor should resign for incompetence and the fact that they are not protecting the public - even the public buildings are covered with graffiti that will cost more than a few million dollars to clean.
We have been watching the deer coming in and out of the ravine - and hoping to see hawks show off their gliding skills.
Ready to set the bread baker with a sourdough mix.
It must have been a busy day for Everyfriend! No one's been in here since 2:45 this afternoon!
I'm off to bed but I have to say that it's nice to see Carol back and ls Jenny, nice weather...send us some!
Now, I'm off. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Phyllis, you must have had the same mother lessons that I did.... your meal sounds exactly what my mom would have put together. She had applesauce or fried apples on the table any time she fixed pork, as well as sweet potatoes (she called them candied). Yummy meal. Did you ever eat pickled peaches? No clue how she made them but had the clove spikes stuck in. We didn't have our own peach trees but MO had lots of fruit trees so plenty of everything.
Carol, I have no respect for any of the trouble makers, sure wish there was a way to deny them any of OUR tax money! Cas had a standing appointment with the barber... every 3 weeks. So many times he would come home & ask me to "take a little off" here or there. He would have liked for me to cut it all the time but I didn't think it a good idea, better for him to be unhappy with the barber than me! I did cut our sons hair until they married as well as mine & daughter's. Love to watch the hawks & occasional eagle, but did not see as many deer when camping this year. Sad to know I can't take that altitude anymore, but have enough photos from all the years to do some serious painting when ever it cools enough to have a door/window open so paint fumes can escape.
Jenny, my daughter brought her air fryer to her daughter last time she came. She said she just didn't like how it worked. Her fav cooking pots & pans are the old cast iron Dutch oven & skillets I gave her. She is a much better cook than I am, and when I am through cooking I will pass on to her my mother's Dutch oven plus the one I bought that came with a deep chicken fryer uses the same lid. My daughter in law doesn't use cast iron but Andy does. I gave him a big one that came with a whole cast iron set, he uses it for fruit pies/cakes he makes over a camp fire. Lines it with foil. Sorry we couldn't get together this year, would have loved you to visit with both boys. I was sure not up to par the whole time, kind of a blur. Hope your doctor is understanding about your issue.
Amy, I've been pulling weeds as well as taking the loppers to tougher weeds & those darn redbud trees that grow everywhere the mowers don't get. I wasn't sure if all those fern looking plants were weeds or wild flowers. I threw out 3 or 4 packs of wildflower or cutting flower seeds in a patch by the front porch. I already had lots of columbine, black eyed Susans, another yellow daisy type & couple other blooming flowers (blue cornflowers) that come back every year. My husband declared I failed weed pulling 101... I have not improved over the years. :-[ Sure did attract plenty of mosquitoes, chiggers or other biting insects. I itch everywhere. Did battle with the wisteria & mulberry trees that grow in the middle of a climbing rose bush, rose bush got me good so I quit. Mulberry trees, redbud trees and wisteria are terrible around here, can't keep them cut down fast enough. Once the wisteria gets a start there is no way to kill it completely without killing everything else. I am losing ground!
Jane, we finally got enough rain to perk up the back & down the hill, but starting to turn brown again. The front yard is looking pretty good since getting the sprinklers going. My husband would not be happy, the Bermuda is taking over the fescue... but I don't care, it's green. Do have an ivy that forces out the Bermuda in the shade. My husband tried everything to get rid of it and couldn't, I don't let it bother me. Come fall I will hand spread the seed & weed killer (weed & feed?) in hopes of a better lawn next year. Losing battle when there only a few inches of dirt & all sand below. It is what it is. We have a couple spreaders in the lawn building, buy I don't have the breath to walk fast enough to use them. My mow guys don't do that & the companies that do want an arm & leg. I'd still like to find someone willing to do whatever is needed but people want BIG money since they get so much for not working.
Lloyd, we didn't get enough rain this week to register in the rain gauge. My sister-in-law said they got plenty in Overland Park. Had a nice rain last week. Wasn't quite as hot today, but steamy. So far this whole summer it has been too hot to have fresh air at night. Poor AC and pool pump running day & night. Poor Shirley's electric bill will choke a horse this month!
Gloria, trouble with my sleep is when I know I need to either be somewhere or someone coming in the morning, I wake up to look out the door for cats (have lights outside so can see the whole pool area), then I'm afraid if I go back to sleep I won't wake up on time. I don't have a single alarm clock I can trust. Crazy, know that would solve the problem. I did have 2 different radio/alarms in my bedroom but the alarm parts aren't to be trusted anymore. I finally gave up & unplugged one so I wouldn't have to re-set every time the power goes out. Actually have a whole box of radio alarms & just alarm clocks that I got tired of messing with. Need to dig one out & give a try before buying another.
Jane, are the donation places (Good Will or Salvation Army) open for donations where you are? Not here & some of the boxes I loaded up I'm re-thinking whether some worth taking in or just put in the dumpster. I'm afraid some of the shoes are old enough the leather will crack, look like new. I'd like to have a garage sale for all the lawn equipment my sons didn't want & I don't plan to use. Also still have some golf equipment the kids didn't want. Had so much everyone took what they wanted & still left overs. Even have a remote controlled golf cart hanging from the ceiling in the garage & no clue what it cost. Ah, well...
Jane, I was talking to #1 son on the phone while you were posting. Go to sleep, busy day tomorrow (always?)
Bed time & I still have a couple jobs to take care of. Sweet dreams & God Bless. Shirley
Good morning everyone..
We did get a light shower of rain yesterday with hopes of getting more today. Grass is starting to come back.
Today is back to the lumber store..then I have a date with the fridge. Didn't get done last week but it sure will today after I get some work done here then I will go sew.
Jane, while checking out the garden last evening, I found 2 zucchinis that could be picked and peeked into the cucumber patch and saw little ones that soon will be put into dill pickles. No sign of pumpkins yet but when one stands still and listen you can hear the sound of bees buzzing.
Phyllis, we have enough pork loin roast for supper tonight along with the last bit of blueberry cobbler.
Shirley, why is it that weeds never die out? I wish we could grow wisteria here but too cold a climate for it. Another one that is pretty is Trumpet vine..but it too can be a pest if not kept in check .Hope you tuck your pant legs in your socks when out in the long grass.
Jenny, hope your Dr wrote the script for you. No peaches here yet. May do some down if my supply is low. Need to check to see what fruit I need to can.
Carol, how did your bread turn out? While in the garden the other morning I was listening to the hum of the bees when a flock of geese flew over...parents are taking their young on short flights getting ready for the long flight. I thought this rather soon but then they may know something we don't.
Gloria, I did sleep in.....nice to be able to do that. I froze cantaloupe one year, froze it in a light syrup and it wasn't bad. Came out better than I thought it would.
Joy,I think everyone is hoping to get back to normal.........what ever that is anymore. I heard on the news of a man having a party and the count was 200 people!!! They know we are not to do that ,just 50 people and held outdoors with social distancing. They should be fined each and everyone of them and the money gave to charity. Some people just don't get it!
Lloyd, hope you have a good day and one not so hot!
Callie, hope all is well your way.
Better get...
Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.
Good morning everyone, was up to 97 here yesterday. I heard on the news the last time it was that hot here was in 1958. The feel like was in the low 100's. I am so glad I have a new AC, so much better than that portable one.
LLOYD we could use some of that rain, too. Might get rid of this heat and clear the air.
JANE no way would I go outside in this weather. The heat alone would do me in. We do not have any far me rs raising cantalope here and the only place we get them is at the markets.
AMY today I will cook my pork loin. I will bake it in my toaster oven. My small roasting pan fits in there. I sure will not use the oven in the stove. Have a container of applesauce out of the freezer and that will be good. Then tomor row I can have a nice pork sandwich. been longing for the roast pork. Been years since I had one. My son gave me a bag full of cucumbers and tomorrow Yvette and I wil make some refridgerator pickles. I need a few spices I don't have so she will be going the market today.
PHYLLIS when my son cut the roast from the pork loin it looked so nice inside. I gave him the rest of the whole loin. The freezer is not big enough for it.
JENNY my doct or is still not making appointments and they will call when she does have them again. Glad I am not sick.
CAROL we used to see deer walking through the pine tree s in the back yar d but since they cut all those trees down last year we have not seen any.
SHIRLEY I think you worry too much and that is why you don't get enough sleep.
AMY you remind me of all the canning I used to do and now I wonder how I did so much with 3 little ones to care for and the house to keep clean, too, and working afternoons for my FIL. Now I cannot do much at all.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good Morning everyone, it is 74º now and weather guesser says looking at 88º today, our ac froze up so we had to open up the house and shut it off.Have windows and doors all open and sealing fans on high. the neighbor dose AC work so called him and he is supposed to come by and check it out this morning. Hope you all have a good day, oh and we took our o turn lawn mower to the shop yesterday. hope to get it back soon. before we have to get hay mower out.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm a little late getting here today. Frankie spent the night and had to be at work at 6 a.m. this morning. I looked at the clock at 5:15 and didn't hear any movement so I went over and opened her door and said "do you know what time it is?" She didn't and we had a major rush because her work is about a half hour away. I took over Cooper and we had the coffee pot set up ready to push the button. She was on her way in time if the traffic wasn't heavy and the traffic lights were right.
After she left I had my coffee and read the paper until it was time to feed the doggies. And, since I felt a Migraine Headache coming on, I took to the couch and slept it off. Feel better now and I've taken both doggies for a private walk of their own. They're both sleeping now and I'm taking it easy. I think Frankie said she works until 1, maybe 2. I guess we'll find out when she gets home.
I have to go outside and clean out a storage unit but I think I'll wait until the sun gets to the other side of the hours. We shall see! I also want to bake something but I really don't want to turn the oven on. It's already 81 and heading for a high of 89. Makes you just want to curl up beside the A/C vent and do nothing! I'm glad I'm not having the temps that some of you are. And I'm glad my A/C isn't acting like LLOYD'S. I sure hope you get that fixed ASAP!
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend! Make it your own and share it with us! We miss you when you don't stop by!
Good Morning from central Oklahoma,
I was glad I filled the bird feeder and went after the mail before noon yesterday. Weather gurus said it would start raining in the afternoon and, at 1:50, it started pouring! My neighborhood didn't have flooding but quite a few areas around the metro area did.
Still dreary and wet this morning but cool enough to open the windows and let the house air out for a while. ("cooler" meaning it was 79º :) ) Surely did make the air smell fresher.
Lloyd, my a/c froze last summer because the coils were full of "cotton" from the cottonwood trees. The freeze affected the hose way up into the attic and took forever to thaw. Not fun to have to let it do so before fixing when the temperature is right around 100º. They did find a small part that needed to be replaced - not sure if that was because of the freeze.
This year, I've been careful to hose off that blasted cotton before it could do any damage.
Wish I'd had my phone handy yesterday so I could have taken a video of a squirrel chasing a rabbit. Squirrel arrived under feeder first and was very wary of the rabbit coming along. Finally, it "attacked" and the rabbit ran under the holly tree. At that point, I chased the squirrel away and the rabbit went back to nibbling sprouted birdseed.
...and that's it from this corner.
Hope Everyfriend finds something to Enjoy today.
.
Callie, I forgot about the cotton this year! So far haven't had it clogging up the pool skimmer basket (and it always has done before). Need to check my AC to make sure not hiding out in those vents. Thanks for reminding me. For the life of me I don't remember if the company that installed came out this spring or if #1 son did the job. Vaguely think when I called it was already hot-hot and closest appointment was weeks away. I'm sure it got washed out because I am the one that gets the hose out & pulled around to the AC unit & this time I used the 75' stretchy one, love that hose!
Amy, I thought I saw a pair of geese taking their kids on one of those early training flights. We have only seen a few geese with babies this year but know many other spots with lakes have had a lot of them. All of the hundreds of egrets are also missing, how sad that the city destroyed their nesting area with the by-pass new "exchange", a totally stupid idea that doesn't help the traffic problem at all. About tucking pants into boots... too hot to wear long pants or boots! Been going down to the river in knee length pants & slip on shoes.
Gloria, such a shame the witch had those trees removed, how much wildlife enjoyed them. Besides the deer so many birds & smaller critters finds homes in them. Crazy to deny all of you the pleasure of wildlife watching! She sure deserves nightmares for what she does to all of you. (((hugs)))
Yesterday when doing battle with the wisteria & mulberry growing in the rose bush, a thorn caught my hand & went in pretty deep. I washed it good when I came in but discovered the anti whatever ointment was in the RV & too lazy to get it out. Today I felt like my hand had dipped into a bowl of sticky syrup (fixed pancake to go with my egg)... looked down & was bleeding big time. I washed it good & wrapped in clean Kleenex & headed to the RV. Don't want to put a band-aid on so I can keep an eye on for infection. Got 2 holes about half an inch apart. For sure the extra bleeding is because of the aspirin I take, can you imagine how bad it would be if I was still taking the Plavix the doctor insisted on?
Waiting for the mowers to call to say they are on the way. I have to unlock 3 gates & take a monster drain off one downspout before they get here, they don't mind calling to have all ready. They do the job faster every week. I did trim around the young trees but looked this morning between showers & that grass had grown back up so they will need to trim around again. They get paid for doing it and it really doesn't take them but a few minutes more. Can't start anything so watching TV & talking to y'all.
Cloudy but radar not showing anything near. We didn't get enough rain to share, Lloyd, so you better get out the sprinkler can!
I see I have lost my post. I thought sure I posted it, but it is not here.....
I gave you all a long run down of my doctor woa's of the day, but I won't repeat it again. Moral of the story I did not get a script, as I had hoped for, but to be honest I really was not surprised as it was a long shot at best. I am however not at all happy with the doctors office in general. I did what they asked me to do and as it turned out it did not go the way they told me it would and now I am at the end of another day with my problem not being taken care of yet.
CAROL, I can tell you with out one bit of reservation tha5 I sure wish I had our doctor that we shared back as my doctor again. Dr. Elizabeth is a wonder doctor and I miss her professionalism. I hope you are happy with your new doctor. Maybe I should talk to you and see about changing to yours??
AMY, how fun for you to be reaping your harvest already. Each day there will be more and more veggies to,pick.
GLORIA, I hope your pork loin turned out good and you enjoyed it.
We had another cooler day today with a couple of drops of rain even.
I hope you all are having a good evening.
Jenny
Hello Everyfriend! I'm really tired and ready for bed so I stopped in to see what you've been doing.
JENNY, I hope you get your "doctor" stuff sorted out and that you feel better soon.
I'm off to Dreamland and I bet I sleep soundly tonight! I'm tired right up the gazoo! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow! And may God bless us, every one!
Good evening and good Night. up date we got AC thawed out and fixed, House is comefy. good night and sweet dreams. hope to see you all in the Morning and in good health and Spirit's.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone..
Another hot muggy day in the making here. Will be doing inside work after we go to town for a few groceries. Last night a friend dropped over and left us with a huge bowl of fresh picked raspberries and two big bags of frozen raspberries .I see raspberry jam coming up! We sat out on the porch chatting till darkness and cool air set in.
Jane ,why is it that these little jobs tucker one out just as fast as the bigger ones?
Jenny, that is the problem, once the garden comes on, the work is there big time.
Lloyd, glad you have the a/c fixed.
Shirley, I woke to the sounds of loons calling. I had just remarked to my friend last night that I hadn't heard them as often this year.
Callie, that video would have been one for AFV. Nice the bunny got to enjoy the tender shoots.
Gloria, how was your pork loin? We had a bit of left over pork last night with our supper, along with zucchini, onions, celery, cauliflower and tomatoes all cooked together . Plus fresh beans on the side.
Time to get ready..
Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! We had a cool night last night and I have the windows open to let in some of the fresh air. I even slept with both windows in the bedroom open. It got down into the 60s over night but it's supposed to hit 91 by noon! Big difference.
AMY, I do envy you your garden but even if I had the space and the energy for a large garden, it wouldn't be the same because I think I told you all that my Dad's farming touch skipped right over me and landed on Christy. I think Philip and Cindy also got a touch of I too but they were both lucky enough to marry spouses with a farming instinct, too.
It's almost time for the boinger so I'll wish you all a good day. Make it your own in every way. And don't forget to share it with all of us!
Good morning everyone. For the first time in yearswe hit 100 yesterday and had 10 minutes of rain late afternoon. Not enough to do much good, didn't even cool off a little. I will be glad to get my eyes checked again. Getting hard to read in here with some posts. Even have trouble reading and keep cleaning my glasses even when they are clean. Have to wait till November for my appointment. Was supposed to have my appointment is April until this mess started and all appointments were cancelled. We will have our fifth day of this heatwave today. So happy I do not have to go out and have a good AC. As a matter of fact at times I put a sweater on to sit here, I am too lose to the window where the AC is but I rather have a sweater on then suffocate with the heat and humidity.
I did bake my pork loin yesterday, was so tasty and I ate so much of it I was surprised at myself. I aam not much of a meat eater. I used my toaster oven, small roaring pan fits in it. I was not going to turn on the oven in the stove. Actually I call it a toaster oven but the right name for it is counter oven. I have baked a pie in it more than once, too.
Something new going on around this area. Gettin a package of seeds from China in their mail that they never sen t for. The public is worned about trying to plant them. They are asked to bring them to the enviromental department so they can be checked. Something else bad coming from there? Never ordered and know no one in that country.
Time for me to get a move on and have breakfast. I know later today I will have a pork sandwich with some applesauce on the side.
Have a good day and stay cool and safe.
Good Morning everyone. well I just woke up and got up a few min. ago. a couple of nature calls in the night. I have been setting here and watching the humming birds, Mostly females but a male one has made the scene this morning. is very enjoyable for me. we are at 78º and heading for 88º they say for today.hope you all have a better day today.
Lloyd
Gloria, I read something on Yahoo about those seed packages "supposedly" from China. Not sure what they are but recommended people not open or plant but send somewhere to be analyzed. Scary to think anyone would put something dangerous or even hoax ... but sick minds these days and have to be cautious. It really does take a warped mind to terrorize people for no reason.
Looks like we have a storm brewing all of a sudden. Just went down to feed the fish & such nice, foofy clouds, not raining but strange the pool water is dancing like it is. No idea what that means, guess I'll go look straight down inside. Do hope not an earthquake to damage that new plaster job last year! All 3 cats are laying out there, Tom on the little round table, Tiger on one of the chairs & Callie on the carpet around the pool... doesn't seem to bother them so guess it's nothing. Wind not even blowing, trees are perfectly still. Oh, well, I'm going to get to bed early, been a very busy day for me. Sweet dreams and God Bless. Shirley
I'm off to bed too but I have to tell you I got a new cleaning lady today. My former one is still not going to houses but the one that was here today is really good one. She spent 2 hours and the house glows with clean. And she'll be around a while. Her name is Frankie and she's my granddaughter. She really likes to clean and she's good at it. I need a cleaning lady and she needs the money. So it's a win/win situation.
Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Janes that sounds like it a good deal to me.also is how it should be with family, and help one another. it is 74º and rain here now. has been on of from light rain to thunder storms all day. good night and sweet dreams. hope to see you all tomorrow.
Lloyd
It is very late and I am sure most EVERYFRIEND, except JACKIE, are most likely sleeping.
It was a CrAzY day here. I waited until nearly noon before calling the doctors office to see if I could get the results of my UTI test. LONG story short.....
the lab had a "mishap" with my test, so doctor wants me to go to another lab and have it redone again. I tried to stay calm but did let the assistant know that I was not happy to have to go out again to a lab where there would probably be way too many people and reminded her again that we are trying to stay safe and going in closed rooms with many people is not in my best interest. She said she was going to call the lab to see WHAT exactly happened. She called back 45 minutes later and said she still did not know what happened but the doctor would be calling in a prescription for me as soon as he finished his lunch! 🤪 HALLELUJAH!
The was a GOOD part of the day also, as we celebrated 53 years of marriage today. The years sure do seem to fly by quickly😘
JANE, thank you for the positive comment for me getting my doctor stuff sorted out......as you can see, I got it done FINALLY 😘
I wish I lived close to you as I could sure use your Frankie to help me with a few things like cleaning....she sounds wonderful.
Goodnight.
Jenny
good morning everyone it is 71º here now and saying is going to the high 80's
and calling for thunder storms later today. God knows what we need alright , but
it is getting muddy enough to mar a snipe. have a good day everyone.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, yesterday was day 5 of our heatwave and today might be day 6 and that would be another record broken. I am beginning to feel like I am in prison here, almost like in solitary, if not for Yvette being here 2 hours 5 days and my son coming on Saturday mornings. Everyone here just stays in their apartments, no socializing at all. The witch must be happy now. Weather guessers keeps saying scattered showers and thunderstorms but it has not happened. The hilite of my day is chatting with my daughter every day and coming in here to start my day. Oh well I am not alone in this keep away from others like we are doing now. I really have nothing happening so nothing to talk about.
Have a good day and keep cool and safe.
Good morning everyone..
I really pounded the pillow last night..slept sound till this morning.
Going to be another hot one here. Yesterday we at least had a light breeze even if it was warm. Today is do what didn't get done yesterday. I noticed more zucchinis ready to be picked
and they will go into pickles but not today...need peppers for a batch and today the stores will be like a can of worms. This is a long weekend for us and town will be no fun to be in.
Jenny ,happy to read you got your med.
Happy 53rd Anniversary, may you and Bob be blessed with many more!!
Better shake my bootie and get ready to go pick up more lumber..
Enjoy your day everyone..
Good Morning Everyfriend! I had something pretty neat happen yesterday. My neighbor's son has been visiting from Maryland and he has been pressure washing their house off and on all week. He was out when I went out to the trash can and he hailed me to talk. He wondered if I'd like to have him pressure wash my house the next time he comes up....NO CHARGE...except for the water and soap. It seems he used to do this sort of thing for a living and likes doing it. And I'm a winner in this one!
JENNY, prayers are answered. I sent one aloft that you would get what you needed and it seems you did!
AMY...more trugs? Or has Kyle moved on to something else?
I don't make pickles. They're not my favorite and my kids aren't really fans. However, I do make "AMY'S Zucchini Relish" and that goes over big!
We're supposed to get some rain today too. But the last time it was predicted, it went all around us with about 27 drops hitting my house and about 32 drops on the road. The grass continued to suffer.
Our temps were down in the mid 60s overnight and are only predicted to reach the mid to high 80s today. I can live with that.
I guess I better get on my horse and get something done today. I think maybe laundry. That doesn't take so much work and I have a casserole I want to try. I think Frankie is coming to spend the night here because Cooper has an appt with the groomer and she asked me if I could take him for her because she'll be at work. I can and it's easier if he's here.
I wish you all a good day.
Make it your own in every way!
And don't forget to stop by and share it with us.
Absolutely nothing is happening here and so there isn't much to say. I really don't like to come here and just say the same thing each time but I guess the idea is to let you know I'm still around.....and I am.
Not quite as hot today...91 and the usual afternoon storms. I hope it won't be raining when David goes to pick up the grocery order.
Take care, All.
I'm here. Boy, did I sleep in this morning! Stayed up until past 1:00 am so when cats changed places (one went out when the other came in about 3:00am), I crawled back in bed & haven't even had breakfast yet. Cats fed.
Anyway, I had a sneaky suspicion yesterday that maybe my rain gauge sprung a leak so after a rain again last night & nary a drop in that gauge this morning, fears confirmed. Just bought it last year & made sure it came in during the winter. They are not cheap but something I do love to have. This one looks like most of the others we've had, tried a couple other kinds but with KS winds, this style catches the rain.
Yesterday I was weed whipping on the other end of the house & discovered the window well plastic covers had holes in them from that hail about this time last year. I had replaced all those covers the year before! That was the most jagged hail ever, even drove holes in the chlorine floater in the pool , strange since floater can bounce if hit (had to have house & RV roof replaced), and at the time it didn't look that big. Guess some hail is harder and sharper than other. Anyway, it may have hit that rain gauge and I just hadn't paid attention. Usually I check it as soon as rain stops. When it doesn't have any in right as rain stops there's got to be a reason! Will compare prices with Amazon & local hardware stores (on line), don't just go out & mosey through stores like years ago. I used to love bargain shopping but no more. :'(
Jenny, since I have never had a UTI (or doctors never diagnosed), I can't really relate to that problem. My excuse for antibiotics was constant sinus infections and for many years I'd call for a 'scrip twice a year & he'd just order, but he had a standing rule that one of those times I needed to come in for the whole female check up. Told him one time that "I could go out on the street and buy HARD drugs easier than get that antibiotic." Finally he moved on and that drug quit working so the next doctor convinced me I didn't need it. Bet that twice a year antibiotic cured whatever ailed me. Still have a constant sinus infection and finally found a different antibiotic that works, but he is not as likely to prescribe as the old one. Glad you got what you needed and hope you find a doctor that listens to you again! I'm with you about having to go in for another test & another chance of those germs. Not good!
Gloria, I'm with you about missing visiting with people. If I am messing around in the yard when people are walking their dogs in the evening, many stop to say a few words, people I've never met before that seem glad to find a human to talk to. This area of houses has "rolled over" at least several time during the 32 years I've been here. There is nobody left of the original owners since the lady across the street went into a retirement complex when her husband died last year (house still not on the market) and only other person that was here when we bought is in re-hab again. She broke her hip working out a year ago, barely got home & fell and broke several bones the last time. She is my age, has 3 sons that would like for her to stay in a retirement place instead of living alone. Her husband died about a year before mine and last time we talked she was still going to a grieving group (8 years). She loves to play bridge and don't think ever enjoyed being alone, was flying all over the US to visit sons & their families. Doubt if she ever comes back to this house. So, another house sitting empty. For new owners it is hard to make friends in unfriendly times, right? I am grateful for the iPad for texting and computer to visit with y'all. Got to be thankful for what we do have & quit whining about what we can't do now, huh? I am a really good whiner. :-[
Off to eat breakfast. Hope everyone has a good day. Amy, I am starting to think we may have an early fall. Some of the trees are shedding leaves & others have leaves turning brown... and it isn't even August yet! This past week I have heard birds singing that are not our regulars so wondering if some are migrating early. Can it be??? So far I have not even heard of anyone saying they have ripe tomatoes in their gardens!
Aha! Amy, going to get more lumber. So, it's your fault! My daughter is supposed to be getting a new fence, and the pickets are just not available anywhere; told the shipment was stalled "in port". Don't know which port? LOL! Lumber is not the only thing with shortages. People are trying to buy new appliances, and they are just not available...any brand. The Home Depot's, Lowe's and can't even get back-orders on certain items, like refrigerators, small or large chest freezers. Like war-time.
Interesting! My son has an appliance store and he's so busy with repairs and NEW deliveries that he doesn't know what time is most days. The weather has been so hot that freezers on the brink are just plain quitting. And most of them are old enough that the people just say "Get me a new one". They're tired of fussing with an old freezer or fridge or A/C unit. He says he's working 10 hour days! I guess people need to stop depending on Lowe's, and all the big stores and look for a "Mom and Pop" store like back in the 50s and 60s.
We're supposed to get rain tonight but I'm a skeptic. I watered my tomato plants anyway. SHIRLEY, I have three tomatoes on my plants that are "blushing". My Maryland daughter has been picking hers for almost two weeks and our weather is about 2 weeks behind hers. So I'm thinking that I'll have a fresh tomato sandwich for my lunch on Sunday. I'll let you know!
I thought today would be a do nothing day but some stuff just YELLED for attention and I seemed to be doing something all day. And I'm really tired tonight. Cooper is spending the night here because Frankie has to be at work at 6 a.m. and he has to be at the groomer at 1. So he'll be here and overnight and we'll take him to the groomer and then pick him up when he's done. And she'll stop here after work and pick him up.
I'm going to wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow....just in case I don't get back before bedtime. And may God bless us, every one!
Saying good night from this neck of the woods........sweet dreams everyone.
Me too, heading to bed. All of a sudden it cooled down this evening so I pulled the car out of the garage, washed & dried her off with the chamois... have not done that in a long time. By the time I got stuff (ladder, hose, etc) put away it was "misting" so wipers turned on auto as I pulled back into the garage. Lots of things I should have been doing, more satisfaction seeing a clean car!
Tom & Tiger insisted on going out but Callie wanted to go to her garage. We put sheets on son's camper so she sleeps up there most of the time. They rule. Tom is sticking close in case we get another storm.
I am closing down for the night. One more day of July, can you believe how this year has passed? The virus had consumed our lives since early March, wasn't that the start? I remember we were thinking about it before my brother's funeral but here in the mid-west not as uneasy as FL family.
Sweet dreams & God Bless. Thoughts will be with all of you as I talk to God when I go to bed. (((Hugs))) Shirley
good Night and sweet dreams everyone. we have from light to very hard on and off all day long. so I am headed to bed see you all tomorrow.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone..
We are of and running to the city to get our eyes checked. We have a 9 am appointment and then we can head back home before traffic gets silly. I have noticed this year a lot of people speeding and passing on places that they shouldn't....oh for a cop!!
Jane, yes ,he is making two more for here and has an order for 3 more but those are in the spring. Trouble is the prices are going up and up and today we couldn't get the lumber we wanted as they didn't have it!! Not only the grocery stores are being short changed but lumber stores also!
tomereader.........no not us.....we didn't get lumber either. I also heard that a lumber store in the area is asking where the people are from and if not from that area is refusing , only to sell to his area contractors.
Shirley, yes I do believe it will be an early fall plus one heck of a winter to come. Both dogs are losing their hair like crazy (getting ready for winter coat?) Jays are squawking like they do it fall...
Gloria, hope the weather is cooler for you today...I really don't care for all the humidity that comes with the heat.
Better get on the road...
Enjoy your day and stay safe everyone.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This will be a shortie because it's almost time for the boinger and I also have some things to deal with this morning that are going to be time consuming.
We (Cooper, Mikie and I) all slept in the pull out sofa bed last night and it was a good move. The dogs each had their space and I had mine and this morning I stripped it and washed the sheets and put clean ones on for Christy's visit next weekend so that's done.
There goes the boinger. Time to feed the doggies and have breakfast myself. I wish you all a pleasant day. Make it your own in every way. And don't forget to share it with your friends at the Soda Shoppe!
AMY good morning. you seam to be the only one here now. we are still getting Rain light right now, but on and off all day yesterday and last night from light to very hard thunder storms. getting muddy enough to mar a snipe. wish you all were close to Me, I have lots of rough sawed lumber, several brands.
Oak, walnut black, wield cheery, sickmore, red ceder, hedge/or Osage orange, some scalded and all dry. I also have a 12" wide joiner, to smooth it out. from 1/4" thick to 4" thick, and up to 24" wide. I had a woodmiser band.
sawmill, wish i had not sold it, think I will get another one. I make a lot of receipt and jewelry boxes. AMY you and your husband come see us your husband and I could have a heyday in the shop.
Lloyd
Good Morning JaneS you slipped in while i was typeing what this computer said, Have a good day.
Lloyd
Gosh, the end of another week...or almost. This one seemed to go by fast.
I'm trying to think what needs to be done to prepare for the hurricane (Isaias) that is coming the first of next week....late Monday in to early Tuesday. We will probably get heavy rain and, hopefully, not too much wind. But, the ground is so saturated from all the rain that we have already had that they are warning that trees might come down even in moderate winds. It depends on how far it comes inland. I'm really not looking forward to it but it will happen whether I want it to or not.
Take care, All.
Good morning everyone. I was so dumb the other day when I cooked the pork loin and I have suffered since. I know I cannot stand long and that is what I did, back has given me trouble since and today we are supposed to make refrigerator pickles. My son gave me a bag of them and more zucchini and summer squash. I can only eat so much of them. My daughter would like the zucchine because she makes a delicious relish with them.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good night everyone, see you all tomorrow.sweet dreams.
Lloyd
Boy! We saved money on sodas, coffee, tea and goodies today and we could have given the waitress the day off. Nobody's been in here since around 9 or so this morning! I hope that means that you are all so busy enjoying your day that you just plain didn't have time to sip sodas and visit!
I'm off to bed and it's just Mickie and me todnight so we can take it slow and easy tomorrow. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
LLOYD, you sneaked in while I was typing. Good Night my FRIEND!
Good evening.....Friday night and the end to another work week. These weeks sure seem to flying by quickly.
My goodness, no one has been here since you posted early this morning GLORIA. I sure would like to have some of the summer squash your son brought you. I am sorry you are suffering after all the standing as you fixed your pork loin, but I am sure happy you enjoyed it.
PHYLLIS, I do hope Isaias will not be too big of a damaging storm.
AMY, I hope your eye exams went well for both of you. Sorry to read that Kyle was not able to get all of the wood he needed. I hope he is able to get more soon. I have heard others commenting on signs of a early fall coming our way. The only thing that could be worse as far as I am concerned regarding Covid 19 is having a bad winter coming! 😩😩
SHIRLEY, I thought I might be the only person that has never had a UTI in my life! I guess not....good for you. Thank you for the nice anniversary wishes. We hope to have many more to come😘. It is sad when one is not able to return to their home to live anymore. Not good to have the empty homes on your block either.
JANE, I certainly do appreciate your prayers and thank goodness they were answered and I finally got my medicine.
I am off to watch a little telle....I hope you all enjoy a good evening and pleasant dreams to all.
LLOYD and JANE, I see you came in while I was posting.
Jenny
