HOME
 by MaryPage Drake

I can't go home again these days
Except inside my mind
And there I run right up those steps
Knowing whom inside I'll find.

I do not knock, for I belong
With those who wait for me.
A house is just a house, but home
Consists of family.

Hello to uncles, hi to aunts
My Grandma sits right there.
She watches all the world go by
From her old resting chair.

And where is Mama, I have to hug
Her first among the bunch.
I find her in the kitchen helping
Hilda with the lunch.

I miss them all, for they're all gone
They each one up and died.
A house is a house, but a home depends
On those who wait inside.

(Poem I wrote for a friend who lost her best friend to cancer)
*~*~*~* The Angel *~*~*~*

Why is it that you were taken away,
I had so much left to say.
We had shared so much together,
it never mattered what the weather.
If things were good, when things were bad...
If we were happy, when we were sad...
You were always there for me,
whenever, I needed you to be.

We grew up together, you and I.
now we've said our last "good bye."
At first, it was extremely hard for me,
to live without things that used to be.
Each night I lie down, I think of you.
all of the things you had gone through.
The pain of watching you loose your life,
I prayed each night you would win the fight...
Now you are gone, and I must carry on.

I picture you now in such  "bright light,"
laughing with me, with such delight.
Close to my heart you will always be,
the "Angel" who watches over me.
I will always Love you my "Friend,"
I await the day we meet again!

A poodle and a collie are walking together when the poodle suddenly unloads on his friend. "My life is a mess," he says. "My owner is mean, my girlfriend ran away with a schnauzer, and I'm as jittery as a cat."

"Why don't you go see a psychiatrist?" suggests the collie.

"I can't," says the poodle. "I'm not allowed on the couch."

Good Morning everyone. Vanilla-Jackie I need directions to get there, how is it from Missouri. Like dose it touch USA and if so what state or states, three of our grandsons were here yesterday and will be back to day fixing our motorhome, so we can travel in it again. I learned my lesson not to get it off the hard surface roads and spin it back and fourth and do damage to its power train. we do not plan on flying in airplanes ever again, if there is no road to there from here we wont, If there are a good chance we may come that way.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The boinger just went off so I have to go tend to Mickie's needs and get myself some breakfast!

LLOYD, you'll never find a road to England where Jackie lives!

BUBBLE, thanks for our new place!  I love it all!

Gotta go!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning..

A bright sunny day despite the bit of snow lingering in the shade. Busy day ahead, folks picking up trugs and the phone tech back again. Some where in all this pile the last of the wood.

Bubble, thank you for the new start!

Jane, these dogs are getting picky. Scrambled some eggs for them but they really liked the leftovers of the prime rib!

Patricia, yes most of the snow has gone. We had high winds also yesterday to go with the snow.  Just read that an 84 yr old man was killed  from a falling tree while riding his tractor.

Better get the day in motion here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, 32 degrees here, so no need for an air conditioner! According to the weather gurus, this colder weather will extend thru May. It does say progressing to the early seventies the last week of the month. It warns of scattered showers thru the eighth. Last winter's cold streak has turned into spring's cold streak. I have to wonder about the farmers and gardeners here.

Callie, I would love to see a hummingbird or two. It has been years since I saw them in the states.

Bubble, I enjoyed your graphics, poems, and especially that joke. Thank you for the new opening!

Amy, that's sad about the older man killed by the tree. It seems to me that this past year has seen several falling tree deaths.

All of our snow is gone except for scattered patches in the ridges, but the showers predicted thru the eighth should take care of that. No wind here, which is nice when it's cold like this.

I  would throw over the eggs for prime rib too.

Good morning Jane!

I have spent the last few days going through my stashes of PSP and other stuff to clean some out and reorganize others. And I found this from 2017 Halloween! Talk about a trip down memory lane!

It sure wasn't a busy day in here today!  PATRICIA, I loved the picture! I tried my best to name everyone but there's a guy I can't place and a gal I'm not sure of!

I'm off to the haystack now!  My eyes have been in slamshut mode for about an hour now and I'm giving up!  It was a beautiful day here....sunshiny, warm (not hot) all day.  And now were supposed to have some rain overnight!  Perfect!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

HAPPY MAY DAY to ALL.  Oh for the good old days when we would find a little basket of flowers on our porch on this day💐💐 Of course we would do the same for others too😘

This has been a busy and crazy week.  Thursday I had the MRI on my good shoulder.  I dreaded it as I am extremely claustrophobic....I found this out a few years back when I was having my first MRI... it did not help when the tech said," it is going to be extremely tight in there.....GREAT 🥺 Thanks DUDE!  I made sure I got my eyes closed before I was rolled in and I kept them that way!  It was 40 minutes and I kept my mind busy thinking about how many of these Michele has done.  😩

The results of the MRI appeared on my medical page very quickly.  When I read the details I just knew it was not good and surgery was again in my future😢😩😤  Tear / tearing appeared a lot in the report.  Yesterday I received the doctors summary and even though it is not a very good scenario, I will not be facing another shoulder surgery immediately. They hope they can get me through for awhile with some cortisone shots.

Yesterday I had a appointment with a new diabetes doctor.  I was slipped in a "before the regular patient day started", I was told.  Kind of a meet and great one.  WELL.... one hour and a half later the doctor moved on to his normal scheduled patients.  He did not rush one bit and seemed quite intrigued by my situation.  Moral of the story is he said I am not a diabetic....the past years have been nothing but a very clear picture of other docs pushing this diabetic drugs at me, and they are more than likely the cause of my weight gain over the years.  He took me off of one pill and no more insulin for me at all!

There is a in house dietitian and she had a opening a couple of hours later if we could wait.  I called my PT lady and she was more than happy to slide my work out by one hour.  So we got to meet with the dietitian for one hour also.  She was very pleased with our current eating habits so that went very well also.

My PT time was great!  Tara, my gal is wonderful. We did our PT stuff and then she turned into my masseuse. She said I deserved a extra little treat after what all I have been through.  After sitting in the doctors office with my arm sling cutting into my neck for 4 hours she massaged my neck and shoulders...my poor arm that still has bruises and extremely sore and my incision.  It was fabulous.  She is one very sweet lady.

Michele was moved to acute care yesterday evening.  She is still on the same campus.  Dave had to do a lot of calling and dealing to get this accomplished over just skilled nursing.  She has PT three times every day and with any luck she may be able to get home by next weekend, Mother's Day. 🙏🙏

I am sorry I took more than my fair share of space here....

I hope you all had a good Saturday.

Jenny

I was on my way to bed but one last check in... so glad I did. Jenny, with all the ups & downs, the bottom line it sounds like ups won out! No diabetes/drugs sounds like a big step up, good for you! I'm moaning with all the rest about knees but so far the shoulders are doing okay, so can't really relate to that problem (give me time  :o  ) I will pray that Michele gets home for Mother's Day, I'm sure they will all rejoice... and we will as well!

Patricia, thanks for pulling up that photo. Like you, only a couple I'm not sure about, but my goodness, didn't we have fun??!!

Bubble, thanks for the new house and decorations! Great readings, is that OUR Mary Page writing?

Past bedtime, just told Google to wake me at 5:00 am. Until my son got me the clock that goes with the other "stuff" that Google can do (lights on & off & video monitoring doors/outside, etc.)... I never needed an alarm but gotta let the kids know I am using.  ;) Got a few things accomplished today, including washing the car & drying off with the chamois. I forgot to go back & clean windows with Windex so hope they aren't too bad for that daybreak light. I always do the Windex with paper towels because the chamois leaves streaks unless I wash it first. Oh, well... supposed to rain Mon & Tues so will be icky again soon.

Don't know how I used to wash those full size conversion vans every week, but I did. The guys at the car wash used to watch to make sure that power washer didn't blow me off the ladder.  :D  Not sure why I enjoy washing the vehicles but guess satisfaction of having them clean. When the cars go to dealer for oil change & free car wash I tell them "don't wash unless you chamois off".... so they do. I put up with them washing & having the car dripping wet & caked with mud by the time I get home across town so got brave & spoke up. I don't think they do that to the men (leave 'em wet). I explained that the street dust stuck to the cars so bad I had to re-wash when I got home.

Better get to bed, 5:00am rolls around fast. Sweet dreams & God Bless. Love y'all. Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I don't have much time because I'm waiting for the boinger and Cooper's arrival.  But I had to say, "Good Going" to JENNY.  What luck you got that new doctor who seems to care about his patients and you can keep the gal you like who goes "beyond". I'm also praying for Michele every day.

SHIRLEY, you would really hate my car!  I clean out the interior regularly but I'm not good about the outside.  But for the small amount of driving I do any more, it doesn't really get that dirty!

I'm off to stare out the window watching for the arrival of Cooper.  It helps Frankie cut a few seconds and make it to work on time.

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning...

Seems we are in for 3 days of liquid sunshine here..I am so happy that today is a day of rest! Yesterday was a tad busy, put laundry on the line to dry ,then into town to pick up pipe and seed potatoes. Home to finish piling the wood and it is done, now for the next load.  Helped load the trug for the son and his Dad then over to the neighbours to  fit an existing top we had on one of her trugs. In the mean time the phone tech came again to see why the phone was /wasn't working. All is well now I hope. I sure didn't need any rocking last night.

Jane, have fun with Cooper!

Shirley, the windows on the van need a cleaning ,I use a bathroom shower squeegee to do them. Just need to do them :)

Jenny, what Jane said works for me also. Dear me, I think it is time for good news in your family.

Patricia, we have had a few  men die from those widow makers here. Friend lost her husband that way a couple of years ago. Always wise to have someone in the woods with you, just incase.

Going to be a lazy day here..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning. Some good news is better than no good news, Jenny.  A better doctor and no diabetes is good news so we'll just think about that.  Leave the not-so-good news about the shoulder until later.

My gosh, Patricia, I'm not sure I ever saw that old PSP graphic!  I can recognize a lot of the faces but not all.  It's good to see those that have been gone for awhile.

Sunny and cool and beautiful here today.  Going to be warm this afternoon.

Thanks for the new "room", Bubble.  Would you mind if I added to the décor a little bit?  If it is out of place just delete it.  I promise I won't be upset.

Thank you, Phyllis; I copied your meme to send to my sister as her birthday is in May. The two I'm missing are the woman under Jack, which is embarrassing because I'm positive I knew her to post to and that I think she was a good friend of Callie. Helena?  The other is the woman under Gloria.

Good Morning,

Jenny, I'm also happy at your news!  I hope the diabetic dietician was/is as helpful for you as mine was for me. She taught me a "managed carbohydrate" way to eat and it's kept my blood sugar at acceptable levels for more than 20 years.

Patricia, you're thinking of Helona who did, indeed, become a good friend - along with Ginnie B. We had such fun together - especially meeting SeniorNetters traveling through Oklahoma on I-35,  I-40 and/or I-44.
Helona died several years ago and Ginnie B moved back to Tennessee when her daughter left her teaching position at OU.

Callie, mystery solved, the photo under Gloria is me, hair covering my eyes... I have vague recollections of that photo, i do remember seeing this collage before and knowing that i am in it...Not a recent photo i still have saved on my computer but, i have been a member for a good eleven - twelve years, so maybe an earlier photo of me that i once posted as my avatar that has slipped my mind...I had to look twice when i saw it, and trying to think back.....This is an older version of me i once used as avatar, or younger version, whichever way you look at it...
Ahh those were the days, our lovely Larry Hanna and Joan FL, two past members i shall never forget...

Time to hit the haystack!  My eyes have been in slamshut mode for at least an hour now.

You all did better with the pictures than I did.  Even some of the ones I thought I should recognize, I just couldn't put a name to.  The faces were familiar but my mind was blank.

Today was a gorgeous Spring day and on my doggie walks there were lots of people out in theri yards or also walking.  It got up into the high 70s in the afternoon and the sun shone most of the day!

Now, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Another rainy day ahead of us for the next few days. A lot of  jobs/to dos ahead of us today. I did manage to get most of doing nothing yesterday done with one load of laundry thrown in. :2funny:

Janie, we always like talking with you. High 70's wow we did get to high 50's here for a while. Kyle and I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the birds singing. Lot of different ones it seems this year. Also had to say NO to starlings that thought they should nest in the mail box. Shut the metal door but they managed to open it and start building again. Next was a piece of wood that I jammed across the door so they couldn't open it. Persistent creatures they are.

Best get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

All I seem to do lately is eat & sleep. Jane & Jackie, I really did come by to say good night but guess I forgot to post it. Okay, brain was already asleep, you think? I'm waiting for the sun to come up and the opposum to go back to sleep so I can open the gate to the pool area for the cats. They can all (cats & critters) go over that fence but so far I haven't found any opposum inside and the fox can't get into pool. The cats feel safer with the gate closed at night & so do I. Wildlife does not show up after dawn, usually.

Got to head to Walmart today for more fish bread & an extra loaf for me. I like to keep French bread on hand since I put at least 8 eggs in a sandwich loaf mix, I'm getting more protein than if I'm just having pancakes. When French toast showed up in the freezer section at the store I decided I could freeze my own, so I do. Just pop in toaster & butter & syrup when hot. Yummy.... I let it dry/air on the cake/cookie racks before freezing in 4 packs. I do put enough sugar in my mix that it is good with just butter.

Cats all fed, Tom is laying by the door outside. He stayed in last night because we were to get rain, but in his heart he is still a feral. Tiger goes down to the river with us but stays in most of the time. Callie likes "her" garage with heated bed. She is older & needs her sleep without watching for the bad guys & sleeps in her bed as long as it's plugged in & warm. She has a litter box, water & a self feeder full of dry Friskies Indoor Delights out there. They are spoiled, for sure, but a lot of company.

Time to feed me & get on with the day. Cold front moving in so instead of 80 today the high goes back to the 60s all week. Still trying to organize clothes but bopping back from summer to winter doesn't help! Tom moved around to the bedroom door. He likes to spend the day sleeping in my bedroom. I can't let him have the run of the house anymore, he was forgetting his "house" manners & "marking" HIS territory. I was spending more time cleaning up his messes than when I had 3 little kids to scrub after! He doesn't do that in my bedroom.

Good morning, Amy & Lloyd! Sounds like you both have your days organized. Be safe & happy. Nothing better than bird watching from a comfy chair. Would never have thought of planting poison ivy, Amy, but I do like the way your mind works!  :knuppel2:

For a day that was not planned too much we have run the roads 3 times!! Once to pick up wood, next a trip to pick up 30 bundles of  cedar kindling (which smelled so good) then back into town for a med change.  On the last trip we also picked up geraniums and some brussel sprout plants. Feel good story.

My friend has an amazing granddaughter that has just moved into her new to them home. Lots of work to do but they are young and have lots of help. What they didn't have was a vegetable garden  so Grandpa said he would borrow uncle's tiller and if she would mark out her new garden he would do it. Sunday came along and Grandma went up to see the new home in work clothes to help out...or so the story was to go. GD was telling Grandma  what was going to be done by Grandpa for her new garden. Little did she know that sneaky Grandma had other plans and when a truck back in her drive way she found out! Grandma and kin had gone together to hire this man to make her garden ready to plant. They took the sod off, put down 3 way mix and fluffed the soil.....tis already to plant now. Grandma sent me a photo and I don't think you could wipe the grin off of either ones face. This was a lovely welcomed surprise!!

Well!  There you all are!  I got busy with my desk and an appointment and never got back in.  I had an appointment with a hearing specialist and it seems my good ear is almost as bad as my bad ear.  The long and short of it is, I'm being fitted with hearing aids tomorrow and maybe I can become part of the world again!  I sure hope so.  Since, due to face masks, there are no lips to read any more, I've been having to say "What" a lot more often.

As to the paper work, I did so much of it today that I became "brain weary" and I'm not so sure that isn't worse than "bone tired"!  My brain just didn't want to do any more.

Frankie came over to use my bathtub to give Cooper a bath and she and her friend stayed for supper.  We finished up the last of the potpie and they agreed that it tasted even better than it did the first time.  Then they left Cooper here while they went to WM and then picked him up on the way home.

LLOYD, I'm so happy for you and your family.  The duplex sounds perfect and you'll have your family close to you.  I'm with AMY!  Plant poison ivy as close to the porch as you can!

SHIRLEY, you and your kitties sure do have a good relationship!  I think they must know a good thing when they see it!

AMY, what a nice story!  I think I have a good relationship with my granddaughters (especially Frankie) but that was a really special thing they did for their granddaughter!

PATRICIA, it sounds like you might be seeing the coming of SPRING!

I'm going to play 3 word games and then head for the haystack!  I'm not just tired tonight.  I'm sleepy and my brain is weary!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

GOOD NIGHT EVERYFRIEND!!

I'll turn out the lights, maybe leave a nightlight burning in case someone else is late getting to bed. Busy day tomorrow with eye exam at 10:15 & afternoon will try to make it to the art guild meeting. Haven't gotten there in over a year between Covid & bad timing. The meetings are on the other side of town so the day is shot & I struggle to get my necessaries taken care of as it!

Jane, I really had not thought about not being able to read lips but my sister-in-law also just got hearing aids for the first time. She lost hearing in one ear as a child (scarlet fever) & has only had 50% in her good ear all her life. When my brother died last year I think their kids pushed her to get the aids being alone. She has had a lot of adjusting to do since he died, with the Covid & all. At 94 you would have guessed him no more than 65, just like our father was.

Lloyd, pleased you & Nancy already have your plans for the move. For sure you will miss what you have but sounds like you will have plenty space for the things you enjoy.

Kids all called so I need to get to bed. Tom & Callie are guarding the pool area. Callie caught her late night meal (ICK!!!) Tiger is somewhere in the house & I will check radar to see if Tom & Callie need to come in for the night.

Sweet dreams and God Bless EveryFriend. Love y'all. Shirley

A good rainy/snowy evening from the Mile High City.  We are really getting a wonderful soaking👍

Michele is working her heart out with her PT team.  She is still so weak, but Dave said she will not quit until she nearly drops.  The team met today to talk about her progress so they could make a guess as to when she might be strong enough to go home.  They will talk to her tomorrow.  Unfortunately the intern came in tonight and said that it would probably be 5/21. This was not well accepted, needless to say.  Dave tried to calm her down saying they must wait for the official word from her team.  They are extremely upset that their Thursday meeting with oncology has been postponed AGAIN, three weeks in a row.  They know the cancer is spreading rapidly and she has had no chemo treatments for much too long.  They just do not understand WHY this happening😩😢

JANE, happy for you getting some "new ears" to help your hearing.  Seems that is a popular thing many friends are doing these days....that and getting cataract surgery!

LLOYD, I am so happy to read what you and the family will be doing for a new home.  It sounds great and I wish you the best in selling the items you will not need any more.

AMY, your feel good story is delightful!  Thank you for sharing.  It was ANOTHER busy day for you and Kyle.  You two never let ANY grass grow under your feet, do you?

It is bedtime as I have had a few interruptions.....I made sure to save this elsewhere so I would not loose it.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm in the middle of making dog food and when the beeper goes...so do I.

BUBBLE, the word games I play are all in the MICROSOFT SOLITAIRE COLLECTION.  They have card games, tile games and word games and you can download it to your computer free and play any of the games you want if you don't mind watching commercials.  They're not long and I rest my eyes during them.  If you want to eliminate the commercials, you can pay the fee but I'm too stingy to do that!

Gotta go make dog food.  JENNY, prayers continue for Michele!  We have to trust God!  Sometimes we disagree but we have to trust!

I'll be back!

Good morning.

Cloudy with more rain today..after watching some parts of the States getting hammered with tornados I am not complaining about welcomed rain.

Don't know what is on for today other than work around home. Can't work outside with the garden but lots to do inside.

Jenny, Michele is so strong to get through what she has and still fights on. Prayers continue here. Jenny if we let the grass grow under our feet we would only have to cut it... :2funny:

Patricia, did you get to a high of 58° yesterday?

Joy, Gloria and Phyllis,, hope all is well in your world.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

The joys of a rural mailbox ..
Yesterday a starling decided that our mailbox was the perfect spot for her nest!  After cleaning out all the nesting material they had put in I closed the door and thought that was that. Silly me, I don't know how they got the door opened again but proceeded to build again. This time I put a piece of wood across the door, can't open it now.
Today I thought they would have given up so took a huge plastic bag with some cardboard to sort of plug the area of the box. Just checked the mailbox, saw the note I left for the mailman crumpled and when I reached to the back to pull the plastic out I grabbed something ALIVE....yes I let out a scream ,laughed and let the bird out. This time the door has been closed with the stick again and a phone call made to the PO to let them be aware of what is happening.
One has to admire their tenacity.

Good morning from the Interior, where it's presently 42 degrees and an expected high of 61 degrees. Amy, we did reach 60 degrees yesterday, and it seemed to be slowly warming. It's different from 2020 when we were in the low to mid-seventies in that May!

I had planned to attempt going downtown today, but an Amazon order didn't arrive, and they're going to try for today. I did get several flattened boxes ready to go downstairs today, and hopefully, I can go out tomorrow.

Been to the eye doc to be tested for new glasses. Goodness, 22 vision without anything for reading but need help with distance. Sure be nice to not have to guess what those signs are saying when driving thru cities!  :o

Well, AMY has birds, SHIRLEY has eyes and now I have ears.  I got the hearing aids today and I'm in awe.  The TV is turned up to about half where it was before, I can hear Mickies toenails on the wood floor when she's following me and when we went for a walk, I heard a phone ringing in someone's house.  I keep stopping to see "what that noise was" and it's just normal stuff I haven't heard in a while.  I actually heard my turn signals clicking on the way home and when Frankie stopped in, she didn't have to yell at me.  I'm beginning to wonder what all I've been missing!  A whole new world is opening up!

Shirley, Jane, I am so happy for you two. As regards a mouth, today I did a few mutters. I needed to get several things done today that I could no longer put off. I had a 1:30 pickup and return scheduled with Senior Resources, Volunteer Services and got a call less than an hour before that they were short a volunteer, and I got the short straw.

I called a taxi and headed to the outside and the chairs set up by the parking lot. That trip was a painful throbbing that I could have done without. Then the cab was an SUV, but I managed. Of course, the store didn't charge all the riding carts, so I waited 20 minutes in the entry.

Since this was my first time driving, there were a few close calls, but I managed not to run over any displays or unfortunate bystanders. Everyone was super helpful, even those leaping bystanders, and I managed to be in and out in less than an hour. Of course, the return cab was also an SUV, but I led with my right side, and it worked.

I discovered some things today, I could now go outside on my own and that the pain was more from sitting than standing. Even walking and return riding the elevator wasn't as painful as it was going down initially. I wonder if I should have incorporated earlier exercise? Perhaps my healing is further along than I thought? Was I a whiner?

Anyway, no more depending on stressed-out agencies!

The sun was out today; no more snow and birds and insects enjoyed the sunshine with me.

Aren't we a bunch of "doers" today?  Good for you, PATRICIA!  You did it!  No one's going to keep us down!

AMY, I heard that birdie singing while I was walking!  I suddenly realized that I was hearing one bird singing his heart out and I called out a big thank you to him.  He probably sang to me before but I didn't hear him.

Hi Jackie, I heard you that time!  Sorry to have missed you before!

Now I'm going to get ready for bed and putting the hearing aids in the charger is part of that, now!  They only need 3 hours in the charger and they'll last all day.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

P.S. Our temps made it to 82 today!

Good morning..

Another wet day here.....will take that over the snow.
A mish mash of a day playing catch up on jobs. Some will and some won't get done.

Need to get Shirley's moth balls to see if we can keep the birds out of the mail box at some point today. We have three bird houses at back ,on kind of fancy but no the mail box it is for them.

Patricia ,way to go on getting out and getting done what you wanted to do despite the hiccups along the way.  Maybe a little exercise on your foot but don't over do it and no YOU are not a whinner!!

Jane,Kyle puts his hearing aids in the charger and when done they look like little green eyes looking at you. I will say careful when taking your masks on and off, that is how he lost one of his.

Lloyd, Gloria, Phyllis and Joy hope you have a great day.

Better skedaddle here

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Amy, other than a volunteered drive to and from on the third of March and third of April to my bank, that is the first time I've been out alone and without my walker. Yesterday was actually hot out with birds flying about, making noise, and insects making themselves known. The month before was cold and snowy. It felt odd.

Last night we had our first thunderstorm with lots of growly thunder, and the snow is all gone with morning lows in the high thirties. Spring has finally arrived a month late as it has in other states, but better late than never!

I have a question for the cooks out there. The majority of meals I make, even reduced, generate lots of leftovers. I usually apportion amounts into ziplock freezer bags. However, is it possible with a food vacuum sealer to seal an entire meal in separate bags and then those bags into one larger sealed freezer bag?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for May 1, 2021

Patricia, I don't see why  you couldn't do that with your sealer but think Jane would be the one to ask about that.

Patricia, I haven't used my sealer for a long time but I used to do that. If you can make it all fit in the bag there isn't any reason you can't do that.

Thank you both! I don't have a vacuum sealer, but I'm thinking about looking into one. It would reduce the amount of bags in the freezer.

Janie,  I hope you like your rechargeable hearing aids as much as I like mine.  No more "beep beep" in my ear indicating battery change needed - which always seemed to happen as I was driving somewhere or sitting in church.

Amy,  I agree about masks and hearing aids.  Even worse when you also wear glasses.  Haven't ever lost one but ended up with it hanging on the mask several times.

Patricia,  I don't have a vacuum sealer, either, but have been able to put leftovers in sandwich size zip bags and then put them in a gallon size bag.

I've decided my life is centering around "ists"!  AudiologIST, OphthamologIST, DentIST, PodiatrIST, etc., etc.  Have an appointment with the DermatologIST this afternoon.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

I'm already running out of freezer space, Amy; it's filled to the brim with ziplock freezer bags! Callie has a great idea, using perhaps the largest freezer bag for the others. The sealer would hopefully flatten the bags more. I'm still debating.

Farrah has been trying to butter me up. After four or five months without, she found I purchased a large canister of her crunchy salmon dental treats. For a long time, she has recognized that my large shopping bags meant food and possibly treats.

And for a long time, she has been disappointed. Yesterday, however, simply seeing that canister coming out of the bag galvanized her. I gave her three of four, and ever since then, she is either curled up right beside me with a watchful eye or laying on the floor, a few feet away with her eyes steady on me. Cats remember everything.

She had always come up, taken the treat carefully from my fingers, or caught them in mid-air, something we had worked on back when the treats showed up regularly.

He does bring me money though, Kyle will give him money to bring me and Jesse thinks this is such a great deal.I wipe the dog slobbers off of it before putting it in my wallet. :2funny: Just talking with son and he said he gets the smaller bags at Walmart for his vacuum sealer.

Callie, when Kyle went for his replacement  they told him lots of people had done the same thing. Now when he gets in the vehicle I check to see if he has both.

Jane, David said he was in your WM and your pickling/canning isle is empty!! Guess everyone is getting ready for pickling time. He is on his way to Beavertown.

I have friends in Beavertown and David has a friend 10 minutes away from the Lewisburg WalMart!  If he had texted or called, I could have scooter over for a hug!

Cottoncandy, I sent you an email message about the hearing aids. Edit...I see your message

Everyone, I do not have a sealer for the freezer.  I've thought of one at times but I sort of do the plastic bag thing that PHYLLIS mentioned.

I have my 5th load of laundry ready to come out of the dryer and my 6th load ready to go in the dryer.  I've got all the beds changed following all my company and all my clothes for 2 weeks washed and ready to be worn.

I had one of the hearing aids hanging out of my ear this morning when I took my glasses off.  It's going to be touchy with sunglasses, regular glasses and mask elastic.  But I'm pretty sure it will be worth it!

Took a small break to fold one load, put another in the dryer and another in the washer.  Then did my "aching back" exercise on the living room floor and my eyes went into slamshut for a few minutes.

I hope all's well with all of you!  Be back later.  Raining here all day, too, AMY!

I'm finished with all the laundry.  I think the final total was 9 loads.  In between, I caught up on my newspaper reading.  Two of them didn't make it over the weekend so I had three to read today.  Mickie and I also had 3 walks....one long and 2 shorts.  One of the shorts was in the rain so it was really short.  I also made a decent dinner tonight...Turkey cut like pork chops, scalloped potatoes and baked beans.  There's more for tomorrow.

The last item is still sitting in the dryer waiting to be folded and put away.  It's the comforter that we use on the pullout bed in the sofa.  So it just has to get rolled up and stuck back up on the closet shelf.

AMY, I'll expect David to check in the next time he's here and has a little extra time!

We had a major fire in town yesterday.  Playworld Equipment makes playground stuff that is sold all over the country and I think maybe out of the country.  They had a fire in their plastics furnace and it went through the roof in no time.  Fire companies from three counties and about seven towns were here fighting it and roads were closed most of the day.  NO ONE WAS HURT!  Amazing!

I'm ready for the haystack but I'm going to go have a dish of icecream and watch the rest of Perry Mason.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

I too am turning in.....have a good night..

Good Morning Evryfriend!  We're up and waiting for the boinger!

AMY, my baked beans were out of a can and doctored.  They were pretty good though!

Today is totally unplanned!  I did so much yesterday that my mind is blank today and I'm just going to take the day as it comes.  At least the rain is finished.  We had it off and on all day yesterday and we also had two wild ducks walking up and down our road and swimming in the puddles.  My neighbor across the street feeds them so they come back every year and nest in her yard!  It's kind of neat!

I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Greetings from an Interior in late Spring mode, with lots of catching up to do! This is the third day with passing showers, so I expect the greening to show up in the second week, but when have these climate change years been predictable?

My leg went back to painful for an hour or so yesterday, which proves the theory of my osteoarthritis having a new area to plague. Otherwise, it's obviously better and better.

I'm working with Farrah, and greed is a good stimulant with her. She will take a hard dental treat from my caged fingers without a nip. She will catch a soft throw in her mouth, perhaps six or seven out of ten attempts, and she will sit and remain that way, so I hold a treat for her. It's a good thing she can't read this, or I'd end up with something unsavory in my bed... ;D

Yesterday, I brought one of the carts up from downstairs to collect all my Amazon boxes, plus non-essentials from my balcony, to take it down today to the discarded box area. I noticed there was canned & dry food and clothing at the donations area. I hope it was from someone moving out and not on.

Jane, nine loads, you're amazing! I figure a day with four loads here is a miracle. I have two laundry bags and a walking closet with hooks on the door so that I can fool myself, at least for a short time!

Amy, I'm sad about the turkey and wish someone could have earlier rehabbed him somewhere else. I'm glad that Lloyd and his granddaughter and family have a new place to go.

Phyllis posted a nice Mother's day card in the PSP folder. Gloria used to do some lovely PSP graphics for years, very feminine and soft a lot of the time. I miss that and so many of the others who always posted there. At times, several were doing PSP classes, and Den and Glen's work was always amazing!

I have/had plans to purchase and grow some kitchen peppers and spices this year, hopefully toward the end of this month. Of course, that was my last year's plan also.

No A/C needed here, but two days ago, I took the thermostat down from mid-seventies to fifty for the season.

Amy, considering that in early May 2016, she was brought to me almost unresponsive and didn't come out from under my bed when I was about until that November, I consider her my miracle cat. She had been found on a sandbar in the middle of a glacial river filled with rapids. A place she could have never gotten on her own.

She had a chip, but it was from someone in Wisconsin who had given her away years earlier and didn't want her back. So, I know she will be nine on September twelfth. I've had one other similar cat just previously, but not that bad. This is why I do permanent fosters for Pet Pride and have done so for nineteen years. The trick for me is to give them space and let them lead at their pace.

I had six cats in 2014 but am no longer able to do more than one.

Patricia ,you have come a long way with her. She is one lucky cat to have found a furever home with you. World needs more people like you to foster these critters.

Thanks, Amy. I wish more people would consider being permanent fosters for either cats or dogs or both. Or even birds and other animals, there is a need. It can be intense and emotional, especially for an aging animal, but it's gratifying.

The permanent foster agrees to house, love, socialize, and care for the animal or animals and pay for basic expenses. The organization agrees to supply the animal, some supplies, and training and pay for all extreme, over the top medical expenses. I have a friend who fosters aging animals who are blind or deaf and loves it.

Back when Farrah chose to remain hidden, friends called her my ghost cat, and some questioned her existence, including a friend who stayed with me while looking for a new apartment and never saw or heard  Farrah.

I'm off to the haystack!  My slamshuts are in full mode!  I'm so tired I can hardly move.  I think yesterday finally caught up with me and I'm getting ready for company for the weekend tomorrow.  My Gardener (name of daughter, Christy) will be coming to get the gardening started for this summer.

Tomorrow and the next day are both supposed to be rainy.  If that happens, it'll slow down the gardening!

AMY, I guess the "slamshuts" are catching!  I should have worn my mask over my eyes.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

No frost this morning, that's a good sign .

Nothing planned here, just taking the day as it comes. Well one thing is planned better make Kyle a pie today. Have the shells already in the freeze so no big deal.

Need to sort out the preserves and get the shelves ready for more this season. This is a job that can wait for a rainy day.

Jane, the slam shuts hit me when I was watching the news.....and I figured I had better hit the hay when they wouldn't stop.

Lloyd, good morning  to you and Nancy!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's time for me to get started again.  My starter has entered slow mode and it's harder and harder to make a connection!

Christy will be here early tomorrow and our first objective is to take my old sewing machine (which is now her's) to the Mennonite sewing machine guy who used to fix it for me.  He's making a special compensation for her because he doesn't usually do repairs on Saturday.

AMY, can we expect pie in the Hidey Hole today?

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOY! :balloons:  :cheer:

Pie in the hide hole?  Did I hear PIE?  I can't have any, but I sure can take a look and see how yummy it would be‼️‼️ Oh wait, I forgot, I can eat anything in the hide hole.....no calories / no guilt😻😻

We are going to have a beautiful day, so I hope to go with Bob again this afternoon to pick up the boys and possibly go to Grandson Matt's lacrosse game.  We have been invited to have dinner with Dave and the kiddos as Dave's life long friend is having Lou Malnati pizza delivered from Chicago for their dinner tonight‼️

We have cable repair coming this morning to hopefully fix a on going and very annoying internet problem.  Also have PT coming too.

Have a wonderful day, EVERYFRIEND.

Jane, yes pie in the hidey hole soon. Just put it in the oven so in about 30 -35 min it should be done. Do you want vanilla ice cream or whipping cream on it?

Jenny, don't you love cyber eating? I must admit it would be nice not to have all those calories in ALL the good stuff....like pie, cake, tarts ,cookies and my dark chocolate. One good thing about the chocolate though it is from a bean, beans are a vegetable so eat your veggies :)))

Amy, no calories? Sign me up please!

Now pie crusts are one thing I cannot do no matter how or what recipe I try. And over the years, there have been many so-called surefire ones! I can do graham crackers and cookie crusts, but not regular ones. It reminds me of my dad and garden peas. You could put his plants right in the middle of a garden. And while everyone else's row was healthy green and blossoming, his center one would be brown, dragging, and infested.

Today will be cooler with scattered showers, which would have been our past Marchs' standard weather. But the next few days will be more in line with the mid-sixties and early seventies. My leg is healed and only aches when my osteo does, so that's good news.

I've been picking up the boxed holds on my balcony and in the hallway walk-in for a trip to the downstairs boxes room. That stuff has sat in taped boxes in the corner of my balcony since 2013, not that I procrastinated much.   :-[

Now, my kitchen, I have an excuse for. I had purchased and received kitchen cupboard and refrigerator shelving, and glass condiment holders in early February before the fall. Best laid plans, right? Anyway, that's what I've been doing lately. Actually, that's what I've been doing, one way or another, since 2013! This summer, I hope to finish it.

I have an issue with my freezer. I'm so used to putting things by and kept for some rainy day. However, I no longer eat as I used to and have been cutting back and trying to use up what's already set by. I'm trying to make and use smaller single servings, and it's not easy to change a generational mindset. I've given away a lot of stuff already, and I'm ignoring or trying to ignore all those new interesting freezer recipes.

There are no Amish here to my knowledge, Jane. Although in the Big Delta area, we have several Old Russian Believers settlements that are the Russian Orthodox version of Amish. As well as some Mennonites that moved here some years back. They're between twenty-five and fifty miles from here, but when the farmers' markets reopen, they'll come up for that. Here's a smattering of what's or will be available soon.

Patricia, I have had no problems with pie crust. The trick is to have everything cold and don't handle it too much. My mom made excellent pie crust and thankfully I got the knack from her. Dad did not want a shadow pie, put the filling in it!!
I know what you mean about cutting back, I still cook as though I was on the farm and for just the two of us it is way too much. Thank goodness for neighbours
Thoroughly enjoyed the sites you posted.

Our day ended up filled with blood work, picking up meds then back into the dump and onto the feed mill. We brought home 10 more bags of triple mix and the pots are all set for the squash seeds now.

Supper is chicken cordon bleu with veggies, salad and blueberry pie..that should tide us over till tomorrow..

Amy, dinner sounds good to me! Mine will be leftovers from a previous roasted chicken and veggies pan sheet dinner. I lucked out as someone left a new box of parchment paper on the donations table.

I have one nagging issue. A friend flying out to move in with her family gave me two bags of red/yellow apples. The ones whose taste tends to bite back? I have two sets of homemade applesauce frozen already and don't know what type these are or what to make with them.

Now that my balcony is cleaned and swept, I'm thinking of what to put out there. Right now, it is tempting to buy plants, but since we had three rainy past summers and the balcony is recessed,  facing  Northwest, it hasn't gone well in the past. I have two deck chairs but never sit out there. Since they cut down all the trees on its back-side, I don't see that changing.

Found it, or at least the closest looking

4. McIntosh Apple
This apple is the least firm of all the ones rounded up here. The soft flesh can be described as "creamy" or "mealy," which makes this variety a good candidate for eating raw or for applesauce or apple butter, but not necessarily for baking. If you bake with McIntoshes, use a thickener to keep the apples from becoming too mushy.

They're firm, not mealy but perhaps just fresher? And shipped earlier? They definitely taste tart!

Patricia, for eating I'm only after red delicious (I like sweet) but about anything suits me to fry in a skillet of butter until soft and throw in brown sugar (depending on how many). A dash of salt for everything (from my mother) and they slide down or can be left over or even frozen. I have never had any left over to freeze. Doesn't take much brown sugar.

My father liked to just cut the core out & fill with brown sugar & bake in the oven.... skins on, but my tummy doesn't like the skins. When I showed up at the house one evening after Mother died, he was delighted to share a whole cookie sheet full of apples he had just baked. They ate apples all the time, even dried them & stored in a gunny sack (remember those) in the attic and would get a handful out & put in a bowl of water to cook. Rare meal that they didn't have applesauce on the table.

So far I have not accomplished a thing today. The wind is blowing like crazy & guess I will never get used to it, we moved to Kansas in late November of 1960. I love the mountains of CO but not the altitude and enjoy the woods & lakes of MO, but the humidity & bugs are awful in summer.  Think I am getting too lazy, but will get out of this mood & be ready to travel soon.

I am not sure how the Corp of Engineer campgrounds will be this summer since they say "only reservations"... and I NEVER reserve because if it is stormy I don't want to be in a motorhome under those big trees. I am going to give it a try & just pull in & if not a reserved tag on a post will hook up for the night. For years I've done it this way & the camp host shows up on his scooter or truck in the morning & I give him the money. I pick up the deposit slips as I go in & have them all made out. I am not one of those people that try to sneak out without paying, for me, I do appreciate the trees & electric hook ups! They have a post with lock to leave the money if the host doesn't get around, experience warns to go mid week & miss the crowds.

To camp in Colorado National Forests we do make reservations, only a few sites in the campground we prefer are "walk ins". My son makes the reservations so we can be side by side & I pay him back for both. I'm already having second thoughts about whether to go "one more time"... It has been a big part of life since my boys were 12 & 14 years old. The youngest has a birthday next week.... 58! They have both been camping with me every year since Cas died (8 years ago).

Oops, you snuck in, Amy... for apple pie I still prefer Golden Delicious. They don't need quite as much sugar & are soft but not mushy. I used to watch for the bushels from Missouri but they don't seem to have them anymore. Like KS, so many of the orchards have been torn down to put up "developments".... how sad is that??? The Grimes Golden Delicious were the best, mouth is watering....

And now to get something done, no more stalling~~

Shirley, we have lots of apple growers around here. Òne of my favourite apple for pie is Mutsu , not easy to find but worth the search.
We like applesauce with our pork.Kyle also eats apples each day.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for May 1, 2021
Post by: Shirley on May 07, 2021, 09:28:13 PM
Well, I've been researching apples... had never heard of the Mutsu. Can see why you like it, Amy. Have you ever eaten/used the Grimes Golden Delicious?  They were my mother's fav for lots of uses, but for me the Red Delicious ranks first just to eat. Cas liked the Gala's and I spoiled him by buying the organic one time & he was never happy with the others after that! I haven't tried the organic Red Delicious so far because I'm afraid I'll get hooked. I'm guessing they need to be picked & shipped ripe since they don't have all the bug killers & preservatives pumped in. Isn't  that what "organic" actually means? When I think of apples what comes to mind was when Gloria would go help her son.... oh, to think of having tree ripe apples!!!  I also grew up thinking you had to have applesauce with pork & still keep a big jar of Mussleman's in the frig most of the time.

The wind is still howling. I've been to the river & had a hard time tossing the bread into the water because the wind kept blowing it back on the bank!  The geese that come thought I was doing it just for them. The geese used to act afraid of the big fish but now they just reach their beaks to grab same as the fish.

Came back to the house & made a loaf of bread into French toast to freeze. I put 8 eggs, cup of sugar (dash of salt), milk & teaspoon of vanilla. I vary on the milk but think between half & cup. I had to get a couple more slices of bread from my loaf of "Butterbread" to use up the rest of the mixture. So that was supper. Actually been snacking all day.

And now I bid y'all Good Night, sweet dreams and God Bless... Shirley

My all time fav apples are McIntosh.  I don't like sweet and I really don't like Delicious...Red or Yellow!  My second fav is the Gala and there are a couple of other that I have to see to remember.

Easy Applesauce....peel and slice up a couple of apples, add enough water to produce steam and when they get mushy throw in a handful of those little cinnamon candies they sell at the movies.   Stir like crazy until the candies melt. Ummmm Ummmm good and easy!

I'm heading for the haystack.  I was watching Perry Mason and he nevery made it to the courtroom.  TJ Hooker invaded his territory!  I guess my eyes had entered slamshut mode.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Calling for rain then a thunderstorm later today ,Babe won't like that! Today is hazardous waste drop off and we have paint cans and spray cans to go.

Laundry day and whatever else needs done day here. Picked up 10 more bags of triple mix and have used 3 already in pots that squash will be planted. May try to get a bit of gardening in if weather permits.

Shirley ,our Mennonite market had the Mutsu and they were huge apples!! Raw apples don't agree with me but I can and do eat them cooked. Have yet to try the delicious in applesauce. I use to live next door to an orchard and would put  some bushel basket in the front end loader on the tractor and go pick  apples and pears. We need Gloria here and she will tell us about the apples. Hope her son has better luck this year with the trees.

Jane ,hope today is a good day for you and Christy  to work outside. Are you putting in tomato plants also? The kids are planting your crooked neck pumpkin , the dogs won't eat their food until they get a spoonful or two in it. Tried to explain that  the plant loves to wander and will even explore their neighbours yard. Guess they will find out :)

Hope we hear from Callie, I have heard there is bad weather in the area and hope it was away from here.

Gloria, Joy and Lloyd good morning hope you get a chance to pop in.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm ready and waiting for Christy to arrive!  She's about 40 minutes away.  When she leaves home, she texts me and I put the timer on so I know when she'll be here.

First thing we have to do is make out way to the Mennonite Sewing Machine guy so he can fix her machine.  After that....gardening if the rain holds off.  She's bringing tomato and pepper plants that they started.  We might find ourselves running between the drops.  We're supposed to have off-and-on rain today and tomorrow.

Also, when you wish the bad weather away from CALLIE, could you possible wish it South/east/or west?  If it moves north, it will be hitting my Daughter, SIL, Gdaughter and husband and two children!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I've tried so many kinds of apples but still come back to Granny Smith for applesauce.  We like it tart.....and lumpy.  For just eating...Honeycrisp is our choice.  We are having a nice pork tenderloin tomorrow so applesauce making is on the agenda for today.  My mother used to make applesauce with the "red-hots", Jane.  It's been a long time since I've had them that way.

Sunny and cool today.  Looks beautiful outside my window and down through the thick, green woods.

Good morning everyone! We're predicted to reach a sunny seventy today, and I will attempt the kitchen re-organize this weekend. Other than that, not much else is scheduled.

Jane, thanks for the quick applesauce recipe! Yesterday, I grated some apples and made muffins. I believe I'll also attempt a pandowdy sometime this weekend as well. I have two earlier gallons of applesauce in my freezer, so I may attempt some other recipes or pies soon. These are way too tart for simply eating.

I don't know if I have a favorite type of apple. I've always favored peaches and other stone fruit. I do know I'm not that fond of granny smiths, which were my daughter's favorite. Granny Smith, red delicious, and other sweeter apples are the most common sold locally.

Amy, I believe we may have the Mutsu here as there are different yellow apples in the stores.

Gloria, thank you, beautiful card! I hope your Mother's Day is lovely!

I need to purchase some new pots and kitchen garden herb seeds and soil. I hope to utilize fresh rather than dried herbs in my cooking this year. I already have variously flavored salts and peppercorns in four grinders that I tried and loved over Christmas and early spring. My absolute new favorite is rainbow peppercorns, fresh and a tiny bit sweet.

We are still having new cases and some new deaths from Covid so the recently publicized opening plans aren't happening. We did have a lull until a couple of varients made it here from the fishing fleets.

Thanks for mentioning me, Amy.

Just finished watching Commencement at Oklahoma State University via live-stream.  It was in the stadium and I probably had a better view from my recliner of Sir Carson receiving his diploma than his family did sitting in the stands.
Carson's Dad said the school gave all the graduates a rain poncho but there were only a few sprinkles and radar doesn't show any storms approaching...

...that might hit Tulsa area, Jane.

Miss Ellen flew in Thursday for the big weekend.  I think she/Miss Emily have surprise plans for their Mom tomorrow afternoon.
Then the entire family will have a cook-out at #2 son's house.

Miss Ellen will be here for lunch on Monday so I'll get to have some one-on-one time with her before she flies back to NYC on Tuesday.

All well in my corner of the world.
Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

I only have a minute but I had left a message on Joy's phone twice and today I got an answer from her DIL.  Joy is in rehab and she did not have the cataracts removed yet.  She is having too much pain in other parts of her body (I think legs and feet especially).  They are dealing with that but they can't even start that until she quarantines from Covid.  Her DIL said she would be happy to keep me informed and will call me with any news.

Now I have to get back to work in the garden before the rains come!

Patricia, the kids are taking a china cabinet...not a nice antique one, painting it and turning it into a herb "garden" they will put grow lights in it.

We just had the nicest young man come by and queried about a trug. I asked him when he wanted it for and he said for Mothers Day!! We did have one sitting out but the man was to get back to us and didn't so the young man was in luck. I mentioned what a nice young man he is  to do this for his Mom. The fellow that helped him said that most would spend $$ on drugs and booze. I think this young man is a keeper!!

Good morning...

Happy Mother's day and although we won't be able to enjoy as we wish, we will make up for it when we can.

Beautiful sunny day here, perfect for a walk or just a drive in the country. Not sure what we will do other than rest. :)

Have a prime rib to put in the oven along with baby potatoes and vegetables, that will be supper along with pie.

Jane, did you get all the gardening done without the rain?

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Not too many people in here today.  I hope they were all celebrating Mothers Day!

We got all the garden work done just before the rains came.  Counting a trip to WM for more mulch, some potting soil and a few more plants, we worked about 6 hours straight today and we were just dragging out the weeds for my son to pick up Wednesday and take to the recycling to be turned into mulch when it started to rain.  I have one 2 by 2 foot patch between the bushes along the driveway to finish weeding.  I just plain couldn't finish it but I work on that area every time I go for walks with Mickie or somewhere in the car so it'll get done.

I'm not all in but my shoe strings tonight.  My shoe strings are in, too.  And I'm tired right up the gazoo!  If I don't sleep soundly tonight, I'll be very surprised.

PATRICIA, I loved the animal families and, like AMY, I'd like to cuddle them too.  But I don't think I'd want to come between the mothers and babies.

Everyone in my family....kids and their wives, grandkids and their spouses and even my grandson's (very close) girlfriend either called or texted me HMD wishes!  Even my very special niece texted me!  I've always referred to her as "my favorite niece".  I have one niece!  She calls me her FAJ (favorite Aunt Janie) Her father had lots of brothers and sisters so she has a lot of aunts but only one AJ!

I'm going to take Mickie out one last time and then head for the haystack.  I hear someone lined it with extra-soft hay and wrapped it in blankets so it's ready for me.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, everyone!

Good morning.

Tad chilly here with overcast sky and a temp of 28°that will go to a high of 54°.

Had a wonderful MD doing things that I wanted to do . Sat out on the verandah a couple of times having out tea along with phone calls.

Have a dental appointment this morning then the rest of the day is free.

Jane, David is closer to you as he is heading back to PA than me!! I also played in the dirt yesterday getting it ready to plant. Neighbours stopped by to say hello and have a chat while I was outside. Way to go on all the gardening work you both accomplished.

Lloyd, wise man to know not to over do it. We also enjoy going to buffets but all have been closed here now. When we were travelling we would to go Golden Corral........goodness it was delicious.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Mickie and I are waiting for the boinger and then breakfast.  It's still wet out there.  We didn't have to sprinkle anything except the two flower plantings under the roof at the back entrance (where the porch swing is and where everyone comes into the house).  I'm going to get one more hanging planter (maybe two) for out there but every time I picked out something to buy, I had to fight with Christy over who paid so I put that off until she left.  I can handle that on my own!

AMY, I hope you told David to text me or call when he's going to be near Lewisburg.  If I can meet up with him, I'll send you a hug!

LLOYD we use to love the buffets too when the kids were at the age where they at anything and everything!  We had some good ones around here, too!

It's almost time for the boinger so I better sign off and get ready to meet the day!  It's still cloudy around here but the rain has stopped.  When I tood Mickie out first thing this morning, I checked out the planted areas and they were just wet enough!  When we get back from our walk, I'll sprinkle the two that need sprinkling and everything will be hunky-dorey!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🌷 We are having more rain turning to snow tonight. This has certainly been a strange spring.  Cannot complain  about the moisture as we all need it so badly, HOWEVER it sure would have been nice to have had a sunny warm Mother's Day.

PATRICIA, thank you for  the darling video you shared....nothing finer than mama's with their babies💞

Thank you, Gloria, for the nice Jacquie Lawson Mother's Day Card.  It was enjoyable as always 🌷

JANE, happy for you to have had the fun weekend time with Christy.  Sounds like you got a LOT gone.  Very sorry to read that JOY is in a care center.  I hope the next update is much better.  Thank you, Jane, for sharing this news.

CALLIE, we all know the best seat in the world is in our recliners right in front of the TV.....CONGRATULATIONS to Sir Carson 🤩 Enjoy your one on one time with Miss Ellen today💞. Have you read about the Burro opening up again under new ownership?  In the past their menu choice would NEVER fly there, but these days the clientele might have a different pallet??

Oh AMY, you caught my attention when I read PRIME RIB🥰🥰🥰 How lucky that young man was to be able to walk up and buy a trug from you for his mama!  He must be one special son💞💞

Michele was feeling much better yesterday, but sadly only one of the three PT'S were there yesterday. 😩  She miss three days of some workouts due to her extreme headaches and nausea.  We hope and pray she can empress them enough this week to convince them to let her out of there.  Due to weather the children were not allowed to go see her yesterday. 😡 Crual😩😢

I must go get started on my exercises.

Have a wonderful day EVERYFRIEND ‼️

The day was perfect.....after the dentist appointment that is. Not a fan of dentists even though I do have a good one.

We struck out across country and ended up at the chocolate factory. You are not allowed in but can tell the lady what you want and she will get it for you. Kyle is all set now for a while..I hope. Our drive took us on streets that has the most beautiful magnolia  trees and they were just loaded with blossoms! After that we scooted on home..

Jane, I did tell him that  ,one never knows which way he will be travelling.

This has been a lax day and I am not going to spoil it with work :)

Jenny you snuck in on me...guess I had better not tell you both dogs has some prime rib on their breakfast this morning to get them to eat something before we left!

Good morning from the Interior! This is the first moderately warm, at 60 so far, sunny day without rain or snow. If all goes by the old weather patterns, today or tomorrow should show the greening.

In the Arctic, the greening is a period of time, in an hour or less, when everything greens up at once, Some people can foretell the time by seeing a light haze of green on trees, but I've never seen this. It's an amazing time as literally everything erupts in green in a short time period over thousands of miles. The ridges, foothills, and plains can turn from somber brown to vivid green in an instant. I've never seen this anywhere else.

Farrah is getting pushy and vocal. She has never meowed, but I've picked up on the sounds she makes for what she wants or needs over time by association. For example, food is "Annnnuh." Now, a treat is different; it sounds more like "Nnuh." I've had people telling me I imagine this, but it's true. Alan recorded what she sounded for a treat and mimicked the sound to their cats. Bonnie immediately perked up and went to the treat canister in their hallway. So he's a believer.

Cats don't use the meow sound unless they're talking to people. They don't use it among themselves, as has been shown. So, learning and mimicking the sounds a feral cat uses is one way to communicate.

I'm sure dogs have similar habits as do other animals, either verbal or non-verbal.

PATRICIA, you're right about dogs having different sounds for different things.  Mickie has to take a pill every morning and I set the timer on my phone for an hour.  If I don't respond to it immediately, she gives me about 45 seconds and then says something that sounds like "mmmmmmmMMMMmmm"  She has a totally different sound when she thinks it's time to get up in the morning but there are no letters for it.  There are other ones too.  My family thinks it's really neat!

It is neat! Think about all of those animals trying to communicate and wondering what's with all those folks not getting it!

Here is a cockatoo, one of many on Youtube, who loves to dance;

This parrot has a nervous habit of plucking his feathers, but he loves to dance

Daddy was listening to reggae. I'm digging it I think I will allow some more of this

Good morning.

Cool here temp is sitting at 32° at the moment and we will
get rain later on . Last evening we got another truck load of wood so piling it is our job today.

Patricia, with these two we get the Border Collie stare..or "THE LOOK"  and you can feel that look!! Jessie is more vocal at times...he will wait patiently at the door to go out and if that doesn't work he will bark. Golden girl would rattle the door nob when she wanted out. Now for treat these two do team work on you. She will stand in front of you, ears forward tail wagging while giving you "The Look"

Well the wood won't pile itself.........darn it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It got down into the high 30s overnight.  I checked out all my plants this morning and they all look healthy.  It's supposed to get into the high 50s today.  That's not bad but I'd prefer the 60s.  I'm ready to put away the rest of the winter clothes and hand the jackets in the closet.  I'm sick to death of my winter duds!

AMY, you must have (literally) a TON of wood by now.  I seem to remember seeing a wood stove in one of the pictures you posted.  Is that what you use for cooking?

The only things on my list this morning are to finish weeding around the Rose of Sharon bushes that line the driveway, stop in to see my son to get the answers to some questions and clean out the fridge.  Oh yes, I have to make dog food, too.  And I'm sure some other chores will raise their little heads.

It's almost time for the boinger so I'll be on my way.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, this is only the second load and we will get one if not two more. Each load holds over 4 cords. We used to get it in log length and cut and slip it ourselves but as we age we find some things are better left to the younger ones.  I do cook on it  ,great to put soup on to simmer away . I use the electric stove but do prefer the wood stove. The stove also heats the house and sometimes the outside if I get it too hot in here. :2funny:

Have you tried your canned potatoes in your air fryer? I did some the other day, drained ,washed  pat dry then coat with a bit of oil and spices..I used maple bacon and oh my they are good!!

Good morning, it's 44 this morning in the Interior, cooler with some passing showers today and tomorrow. It has greened up overnight, so it's nicer out there.

The only looks I get from Farrah are pitying. I have a feeling that she doesn't feel I'm doing my best.

Amy, while I heated and cooked on wood stoves in Kentucky and Tennessee, I've only seen electric ones here. Or propane in cabins along the rivers and lakes. When I was growing up, we had coal, generally stored in the basement in a room with an outside shoot. We changed over to oil in 1964. In the outlying areas, they still burn wood, and also, many have fireplaces.

Good Afternoon,

Janie, your plantings look lovely.    #1 son/dil have been trying to get mine in the ground and pots for several weeks.
If they're available, the weather is awful and on nice days, they're busy.  Fingers crossed that they'll be able to do so tomorrow.

Shirley, I saw your comment about unsuccessful planting of dogwood trees in Wichita.  Same here - although eastern Oklahoma is covered with them.  The owner of a plant place spoke to the Newcomers Club when we first moved here.  He said there's as much difference for dogwood between OKC and Muskogee (known for its Dogwood and Redbud Festival) as there is between OKC and Memphis. In other words...don't bother!

Jenny,  Miss Ellen was routed through Denver on her flight back to NYC this morning and I was concerned about the snow you mentioned.  However, flight from OKC actually left a bit early (everyone was on board) and Flight Tracker says they left Denver on time.  I texted her asking how the weather was and she replied, "COLD!"  She hadn't brought very warm clothes and it was a very chilly weekend here, too. Couldn't believe I was wearing a sweatshirt on Mother's Day.

Yes, I saw that the Burro had changed hands.  I suspect the current population has very different tastes in many areas from what we remember.  I enjoyed the Slovakian recipes.  Have you ever made potica?  I tried once or twice but never could get the dough rolled out as thin as the "experts" did.

There was a wood stove as well as an electric stove in the kitchen when I was a child.  The wood stove was taken out when we remodeled in 1947.  Living room and dining room were heated by a coal stove and I remember burning my fingers by standing with my hands behind me and "rocking" back and forth in front of it. Guess I thought I looked "adult"  ::) .  Bedrooms weren't heated at all until we got butane gas stoves.

I got up before 5:00 am so ready to hit the sack. Had time to close my eyes before the AC man showed up this afternoon but that didn't last but a few minutes. Can't tell you how many times I went up & down those steps today but the shoe laces just laid down & gave up! Going to have half of one of those big double chocolate muffins from Sam's Club with a cup of coffee & turn in.

Callie, one place we rented when living in England had electric bar heat built into the wall. The one in the living/family room was about double the size of a floor vent.... so every item of clothes I had ended up with scorch marks on the rear from backing up to get warm. Never so cold in my life, being anemic & damp cold that chilled to the bone. Sounds like your grands are getting back to a normal life, growing up & "doing their thing".

We had a wood burning stove when my parents bought a house right after the end of WWII. Dad found a place on the edge of the city limits, the house sat on 2 lots with 6 more to one side and 2 across the street. No other houses in sight except in winter when trees were bare you could see a couple houses 2 blocks away. Dad had to do some fancy talking to convince Mom to move in.... it was the original farm house for that area, no gas, electricity, water or sewer. Dad came up with a generator that ran on batteries for basic lights, put a motor on the well pump, sewer took a while (if I remember) & they paid to have utilities brought down to our house & was supposed to get paid back as other houses built. That didn't happen. Anyway, we had a "Warm Morning" stove in the kitchen that always had a kettle of warm water for whatever. I do not remember the stove. Strange...

In my gr-mother's house she had a new wood burning stove to cook/bake on that was in the dining room area, it had the warming rack over the stove. It was in a corner with long table & beautiful carved hutch that filled the room. The cooking room/kitchen had another wood burning stove and one that used some kind of gas or kerosene... it was yellow & green. There was another "summer kitchen" you walked through from the back door, it had a large pie safe, cabinets and on one wall was a long table like where Grandma did "the dirty work"... planting seeds or cleaning veggies/meat, etc., on the east wall where there was plenty light from windows. They had that house built when Dad was a teenager (he was the oldest), cut the timber from the farm (oak & walnut) but Dad always marveled that "they had that beautiful Ponderosa pine for the beems!" He was telling us all about the building, how it had "full 14inch walnut headers". I expect Lloyd will know about that. The builder became well know in that part of the state.

Off to bed. Sweet dreams & God Bless. Love y'all.........Shirley

Interesting stories about the "old times".  I love reading them.  They remind me of my younger days.  My grandmother had a wood stove and that's all she ever cooked on.  I uses to like to sit in the corner next to the wall with my feet under the stove and watch her or the the rest of the action in the kitchen.  And as she took the last item to the table she'd always say, "C'mon HonJane or we'll eat without you!  I especially liked that spot after we'd been out sled riding on the hill long enough to be chilled to the bone and wet through!

CALLIE, you have such a good relationship with your Grandkids!  That's so nice!

SHIRLEY, what nice memories of your family....the house and all the things they did to make it livable.  Things were sure different in those days!

I'm ready for the haystack too.  I think the weekend and the stuff I did yesterday caught up with me today and my eyes went into slamshut right after Frankie picked up Cooper around 7:30.  I have to be up early tomorrow....lots to do tomorrow.  And some of it is doing errands.  That wears me out these days!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning from an Interior at 48° and a partly cloudy high of 63°. There is not much going on here except for an Amazon spice order due and more kitchen organizing waiting on me. I lead such an exciting life these days!

We still have new Covid cases, and now we're getting some local deaths where before cases were decreasing, and the state's deaths weren't local or people in their twenties. And now they're talking about vaccination boosters this winter. Remember that curse about living in interesting times?

We celebrated Mom's Day all weekend.  Our granddaughter stayed overnight and then on Monday morning left to return office equipment as she is with a new company next week.  Huge upgrade in pay - she deserves it with her background and energy.

We have critters in the attic again.  The noise scared me last night while I was in the hallway - it is either another racoon or - I spotted a huge squirrel on the fence yesterday.  So discouraged as the other critter cost so much with the payment to "save" the precious animal or be fined for interfering (am I the one interfering?)

Jenny:  Prayers for you and your family.

The wood is piled, this load now onto the next.
Carol if you Google getting rid of racoons or squirrels you will find some answers. One is loud rock music in the attic and others are hot pepper  to peppermint oil. There is a lot of items you can use to get rid of the unwanted critters.

Wonder if mothballs would smell all through the house if put in the attic?  I really don't know, but I wouldn't be too concerned about the critter's welfare, they can get out the way they got in. After all, critter was uninvited and not paying rent, right?  I said my piece and kind of lets you know how MY day went.  >:(

If I get a good night of sleep I'll play nice tomorrow.  ::)

I'm about ready to head for the haystack, too!  I just kept moving all day...one thing after another.  I had no plan, just stuff kept jumping out.  The yard looks so nice after Christy's efforts that I needed to work on the porches and sidewalks and even the driveway.  Have any of you had any experience with that new "JETNozzle" thing that is supposed to be so good at cleaning concrete?

Also, I found an upright freezer that will fit in the space where my chest freezer is.  I really dislike the chest freezer because I've always had upright ones.  Back in the olden days when we decided that we needed a freezer, one fell off the truck as it was being loaded for delivery and it got a big dent in the side.  Since it was going into the basement, they just left it on the truck and delivered it to my house.  And I've had uprights every since until I needed one to fit the space in this house and all the uprights were too big.  Now they make a smaller one.  So I'm selling mine and getting the upright.

I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a better tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one1

Good morning

Day is starting off chilly 30° and it is nice and sunny out. Blood work first thing this morning and I want to pick up some parsnip seeds and golden beet seeds at the feed mill then home to bake and if time permits  planting some seeds.

Jane we have the chest freezer and after it konks out an upright will be put in. Now more bending over and teeter totter on the edge!

Lloyd, you have a lot of work ahead of you packing all your canning items to take with you..take it easy and rest when you can.

Shirley, :hugs: hope today is a better day for you. I also thought of Zest soap too  that has a smell that they may dislike.

Phyllis, Gloria and Joy pop in and say hello when you can.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm going to try to hit the showers before breakfast so I'll be ready for anything by the time Cooper arrives.  I mentioned to Frankie that I'd be advertising my freezer for sale and getting a new upright and she asked me if I wanted her to post an ad on some website that she frequents through her phone.  I told her I'd think about it and let her know.  She said there's lots of stuff posted there and it usually sells well.  I think I'll have her access it on my phone so I can look at some of the ads and get an idea how to word mine.

AMY, I'm just so tired of having to root around in that chest freezer after spending my life wit with uprights and I've been looking but they were all too big for the place I have to put it.  But yesterday, when I stopped in the store to talk to my son, he was on the phone and I walked back and there was a very compact small freezer.  He gave me the dimensions and it'll fit!  He also quoted me a very good price and I think he intended to cover the price himself because he looked surprised when I told him that whatever I get for my chest freezer is his!

I better get moving or I won't get my shower in before breakfast.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday (ESPECIALLY YOU, SHIRLEY) but not as good a tomorrow!

I'm here and finally it is a sunny day, but chilly.  We set a low temperature record this morning.  It was 39 deg. when I got up.  Yesterday it was a cold, dreary, rainy day so I spent most of the day huddled under a blanket and feeling cranky.  >:(

I prefer an upright freezer, too.  It just is easier to find things, I think.  Still need to rearrange it from time to time and weed out the old stuff.  I'll have to do that in the next few days since I'll be getting a new frozen food delivery next week.

Take care, All.

I know you have a son to get your freezer from, Jane, and do understand your point of view. When we moved to the KC area the new house didn't have a space for my monster upright freezer & it was one of those things NOT IMPORTANT to Cas, so I sold it. Did without in KC but back here in 2 years and decided I HAD to have a freezer again. I found a small upright from Sears & keep it packed full. Lately I've noticed that Sam's Club has small upright as well as chest type freezers at such a low price I would be tempted to get one but no place in my kitchen or garage for it. Don't need another downstairs! I do have a little more space in my last frig/freezer since I got one without the ice maker! I've replaced several refrigerators the last 15 years because the ice makers ran water all through the freezer sections & ruined them. After using ice cube trays in the RV freezer I decided I could do the same in the house since only me.

My glasses aren't in so I called the yard guys & they will be here between noon & 2:00pm... must get to the store & back to unlock gates so off & running. The pool still has the cover on but it isn't one that would hold the weight of a human so can't leave gates unlocked, that's why I have to be here for yard guys. Got my grocery list made up but need to put in my purse... won't do me any good if I leave it on the table! Happy Days to ALL.... Shirley

Good morning, a cool, partly cloudy day ay 42° this morning with an expected high of 66°. I didn't get many of the bigger items on my list finished as I was caught up in some smaller ones. My green peppercorns and white peppercorns arrived via Amazon, and I did several calls regarding my insurance questions and Farrah's needed dental appointments.

Senior assistance programs are still backlogged, so receiving subsidized cleaning services seem undoable at this time. And VanTran requires a current full physical, which is impossible when Covid has medical needs on an emergency-only basis. We had two more deaths yesterday of men in their twenties.

This morning, we leave our fire extinguishers outside by our doors, and they will come by and exchange them for new ones. And tomorrow I need to pick up some fruit and other groceries, so it's still the little things taking up time.

I've had chest freezers in the past, including a small one in my last apartment. In this one, it's only a large refrigerator, freezer full of my Ziplock frozen baggies. I don't believe I'd have as much space using containers. I've stopped doing the prepping I did in the past, making meals for just one or using up what's already there. If I get it cleaned out, I may go back to a smaller amount of prepping. Preserving, canning, and prepping don't make as much sense for me as it's done in the past.

Michele is working very hard to get strong enough to be able to get home.  Thy are hoping this can happen Monday.  Of course she wants to go home NOW🙏🙏🙏

I think fondly of wood burning stoves for cooking and keeping our homes warm years ago.  We never had one but I NEVER wanted one of the type of furnaces that had one grate n the floor...generally central location of the home . The air would blow up from the lower area and they grate would get hot enough to burn your feet on!

Having four sons required me to have a BIG freezer!  When we first moved into this home, our youngest son and his wife were moving to London.  One of many items we were gifted was a small chest freezer.....I did not like that thing at all.  Hard to find what you are looking for.  It did not last long here.  Now I have a single refrigerator and a single side by side freezer that are counter depth and I love them!  So easy to find what you are looking for.

CAROL, sorry you are having issues with critters in your attic again this year.  I would try anything to get them out of there!

Have a good evening.

Jenny

Now the day is over.....

I'm ready for the haystack!  I finished everything on my list today.  I even remembered to put the garbage can out for tomorrow morning.  I even did a couple things that weren't on my list and I'm glad they are all done.

JENNY, prayers continue for Michele!  She sure is a special part of all our lives these days.  I think of her often and when she comes to mind a prayer follows!

PHYLLIS, I hate rooting around in the chest freezer and I'm wasting freezer space because I keep an upside down plastic crate in the bottom because I simply can't reach the bottom.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one.

Good Morning, Lloyd & all. We have a storm going through, lightning is fierce & wind bending trees every direction. SO upset with myself for not getting the largest tomato plant tied to the stake, it will probably break off. Tom & Callie stayed out last night, Callie was waiting at the door but since I could hear the thunder way off in the distance, I knew Tom would be hunkered down where ever his safe place is outside. He is terrified of storms and can hear them long before I do, so he won't be home till it is over and he will be dry. When in the house he hides in the hallway (must have heard the warnings of safest place)..... He doesn't like to be in the basement unless I am there with him. Tiger stayed inside & sticking close to me. Callie ate her salmon & wanted out in HER garage with heated bed, food & water. She is not afraid of storms, one tough little cat.

Guess I'd better post before the power goes out. Starting to get a little light out but think it is time to have candles & matches ready. I have flashlights everywhere but easier to fix breakfast by candle light. I have a gas stove but must use a match to light when power out. I will hurry & make me a cup of instant coffee, hey, might as well enjoy the change of weather!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Right now, it's 46º and sunny and heading for a high of 72.  My kind of day!

Today I'm heading for my weekly trip to Davy's.  They're having a meat sale today and I'm already on a search for rhubarb.  I have a recipe I want to try.  I have to get my list coordinated.  Right now, it's in three different places.

Yesterday I had some leftover pasta and I decided to make a paata salad with whatever was in the fridge.  It ended up being some of AMY'S pickled onions and radishes, pasta, a mixture of mayo and Italian dressing, some salt and pepper and a couple left over cherry tomatoes.  It turned out pretty good!

I think Frankie and Cooper are spending the night here tonight.  She has to be to work at 6 a.m. and it will work out best for her if she doesn't have to make a special trip to drop off Cooper in the morning.

I better get on my horse and get moving or I won't be ready for my trip to Davy's  I hope you all have a good day...bettr than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S.  SHIRLEY, I hope your tomato plant toughed it out and is still standing!

Good morning every one, yes I can still type a bit. Thought I better get here before you all thought I was gone. Cannot get rid of me that easy. :)
Two days ago we got into the upper  60's and when I pulled up the shades the cars wer e covered in frost. Crazy weather, today supposed to be in low 70's.  Maybe I will get the energy  t o go ou t and sit on  the porch later. They got the chairs out a few days ago. Witch said it they are moved at all they go back in storage. Wonder if she even measured the distance and will check every day.
We are going to lose our maintenance man next month. He is 67 now and has a bad back that is getting worse. We will all miss him. He is a nice man and has beem here since this place opened. There will be a hard job replacing him.
No one here spends much time out of t heir apartments but on Wednesday's the library on t he main floor is opened for a couple of hours so Wednesday Yve tte and I went down there so I could get a book. Talked to the lady in charge and asked where a few people are, I have noticed there has been no lights on in their apartments. One was in the hospital and is now at her daughter's home and one is in the hospital, one with a daughter in upper NY is now living with the daughter. Also some on the back side of this building are either in the hospital or a nursing home. Nice to talk to someone other than Yvette for a change. My #1 son calls and the o ther visits every Saturday morning and of course there is my daughter every day on Skype.
There are new  tenants in t  hose apartments and I would not know them as I seldom get  ou t of mine. With the masks on it is hard to see if they are new or old tenants.

Better get a move on, Yvet te will be here soon and I wan t to get dressed for t he day before she is here.
Have a good day wi th nice warm days ahead.
Stay safe.

Well, had to login for some reason!  Strange things going on around here. Been down to get my new glasses, so far doing okay. They are "progressives" so maybe I won't be looking for them all the time, when I get used to nodding my head up & down. I finally got someone to listen & put NO correction in the bottom, I see 2020 for reading & always have, so a little magnification makes a blur for me. Will have to get another pair because these don't have a tint & can't put the clip on over these frames. Always something, right?

Tomato update! The big plant is still in place hugging the pole. The pole has stubs of branches so seems to let the plant lean without rubbing. Got a problem, Amy, maybe you can 'splain things so I will understand....... I bought this big tomato plant because it already had blooms on it, weeks ago. I carefully transplanted into the trug without disturbing roots, same day my daughter & I planted the 4 packs of salad fixins. I have been eating salads for a week but still not one single tomato showing up on any of the plants. Why aren't they growing tomatoes? The Early Girls are blooming their little hearts out, still no tomatoes showing up and now the Big Boys are blooming. What am I doing wrong????

Radar showing the storms have moved past us but I hear thunder & see wicked clouds. The trees are starting to shake so must be something coming at us. Oh, I brought home a hamburger, fries, Pepsi & the dish of ice cream called a "mudslide"... yummy. Must go eat.

Gloria, about time you checked in!!!!

YAYYY So nice to see you Gloria! I am happy to read you are getting about and you are being well looked after by family and Yvette.

Shirley, you are not doing anything wrong...maybe there are no bees doing their job. You may have to help out and I know you must have an artist brush somewhere :))

Here is something for you to read.

Beans, carrots, beets cucumbers and strawberry plants are now in..........and so am I !!
Will cut up the potatoes for planting tonight and get them in the ground tomorrow.

The racoon is gone and the best scenario is that it is still safe and cannot get into our attic anymore.  A couple weeks ago, we had a handyman fix the vented part below the roof with new & tougher screen and metal screws.  He said he did not see any critter.  After hearing the noise right above our heads - we knew and thought it was a new critter.  It is hard to imagine but there was a racoon making screeching noises.

Youngest son came over with a trap (even though it is illegal to use them here) and when he opened the top of an area in the garage - the emaciated and thirsty racoon jumped out and ran away.  It can't go far enough.  It is a wonder the racoon is still alive and I hope it learned a lesson.  In other words, the first pest control person sealed the area where the racoon was hiding.  It still is free and no one from Raccoons Matter {Just kidding) is going to protest in front of our home.  It only cost us close to $300 to get this matter taken care of and ended up being solved by our youngest son.

Gloria:  Welcome home!

Rhubarb!  I will check out who might have rhubarb.

Jenny:  Prayers for Michele.  She has gone through war!

Good morning! So nice to hear from you, Gloria! Thanks for posting.

We don't have raccoons here, I've only seen them in the lower 48, but we do have carpenter ants which is a concern if you have untreated wood. We have badgers, weasels, and wolverines that can get into and make a mess of cabins or food storage, but those are not in the city.

The biggest issue here is bears, especially in the spring or fall. They're found in the suburbs and smaller towns. I saw a video last summer of a mother bear in an unlocked and open garage, literally rip the locked top off of a large chest freezer. Unfortunately, they had to shoot both mom and the three cubs because relocating wasn't working, and no place would take the cubs.

We have grizzly, black, and brown bears locally, so leaving out birdseed, dog food, or unsecured garbage is illegal in the summertime. And relocation is very hit or miss with bears.

We hit the deck running at 5 a.m. this morning and my muscles have given up and my eyes have entered slamshut.  My shoestrings came in hours ago.  I'm going to bed as soon as I finish typing.

Christy made the front of my house look so good that I decided the back needed some attention so I spent a couple of hours cleaning and hosing down the concrete and the sidewalks in the back.  I think I need to hire someone to clean it really well.  It looks a lot better but it needs something!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy Spring day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Today was a GORGEOUS day!
