I don't know what you're planning for Mother's Day, but I do hope you're planning to do something special to honor her.

Abraham Lincoln once said, "All that I am, or can be, I owe to my angel mother." John Gray said, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Napoleon Bonaparte said, "Let France have good mothers, and she will have good sons." And how about this Spanish proverb — "An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy."

All of those quotations have one thing in common — they all emphasize the fact that mothers have such a powerful influence, not only over their children, but over the very course of history.

I don't think that's an exaggeration. Nobody — not teachers, not preachers, not psychologists — gets the same chance to mold human minds and nurture human bodies and emotions like a mother does. The results of competent mothering can truly be seen for generations.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. (Proverbs 31:28)

This Sunday we will wear our white flowers.

by Phillip Morrison (05/10/2013) | A Taste of Home
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise (Proverbs 31:30-31 NLT).

Growing up in a family with no sisters and only one brother, I resented and even hated some of the chores my mother assigned me — dusting furniture, washing dishes, cleaning windows — "girlie work!" But there was one chore I neither hated nor resented, maybe because I only did it once a year, but mainly because I sensed that it had special meaning.

Our small town was owned — literally — by the DuPont Company. DuPont owned the houses and rented them to employees. The company named the schools, owned the utility services, provided police and fire protection, and reminded us of its paternalistic presence daily. Old Hickory was the quintessential company town. Of course the power plant belched black smoke and noxious fumes — practices common in those days. Hanging over us like a cloud was the ever-present rotten-egg smell from the chemical plant. When visitors asked how we could stand it, we smiled and said it smelled like bread and butter.

As if to hide the worst features of an industrial plant, DuPont planted thousands of rambling rose bushes along the several hundred feet of chain link fence fronting the property. The flowers bloomed continuously for about ten months of the year, their beauty masking the reality inside.

Those rose bushes have everything to do with the once-a-year chore I loved. Early on a Sunday morning each May, I would run or ride my bike to that fence. There I would search for the choicest rosebuds, a red one for me, a smaller red one for my brother because he was younger, and white ones for my mom and dad. Taking out my pocket knife (every boy carried one in those days, blades honed to razor sharpness so we could whittle the thinnest shavings), I would carefully cut the chosen buds and take them home. There we would pin them to our clothes and be ready for church on Mother's Day.

When I tell people about that annual chore, and explain that a red flower meant your mother was living and a white one meant she was dead, they often get a puzzled look as if they've never heard the story. For our family, it's a tradition I hope we never lose. After I left home and Mary Margaret and I married and our children came, the tradition continued. We still have those old color slides of our family ready for church, four little stair-step kids and mom and dad, all with red flowers on Mother's Day, boutonnieres for the boys, corsages for the girls. When we lived hundreds of miles away and I could no longer snitch rosebuds from the fence at The Plant, I would make my annual phone call to the Friendly Flower Shop and order white flowers for my mother delivered to 81 Jones Circle.

We knew the time was coming, but we were still unprepared. I remember the stunned realization as I ordered our Mother's Day flowers in 1997. "A red rose for me," I told the Kroger flower-shop lady, "and a red corsage... no, you'd better make that white, for my wife." Mary Margaret's mother had died the previous December, and for the first time ever her Mother's Day corsage would be white. And I vividly remember my own emotions four Mother's Days later when, for the first time in my life, I wore white on Mother's Day.

Anna Jarvis began the practice that became our American tradition when she honored her own deceased mother with a special day of remembrance at a Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia in 1908. By 1914, she had campaigned so successfully that President Woodrow Wilson signed into law the proclamation passed by both houses of Congress making Mother's Day a national holiday. Both Jarvis and the President insisted that the spelling be singular possessive — Mother's Day — to encourage a personal rather than generic observance.

This Sunday we will wear our white flowers, and I will know why my mother always had a tear in her eye as she pinned on the white bud I so carefully selected. If you can still wear red, thank God! If you have to wear white, thank God! Red to honor... white to remember... Encouraging Words!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'll be getting ready to go to church in a little while.  Cooper will arrive while I'm gone and then we'll take a walk when I get home.  It will probably be a walk in the rain because it's supposed to start later this morning and last until into the evening.

BUBBLE, than you for the new Soda Shoppe.  I did not know the story of the colors for the roses.  My mother's favorite roses were the pink ones and the yellow ones.  I think I like the pink ones best and the second favorite is red.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning.

So far it is sunny here with rain this evening. Went to sleep with the chorus from frogs and loon calls echoing in the background.

A day of rest here.been doing that since Wed but will do it again today. I do have some ham that I want to make a ham loaf from...need to find a good recipe for that.

Shirley, wild leeks or ramps as they are called are in a class of their own. Many years ago in a one room school house the boys  on their way to school would fill up with wild leeks. They knew that the teacher would send them home as they are worse than garlic. I have used them in salads(carefully) and they give it a nice taste. Same with friend potatoes put a handful in there. I did dry some one year to throw in soups and stews.

https://www.wildedible.com/blog/foraging-ramps

Bubble ,thank you for the new start page. I did not know the story of the white rose either. Moms favourite  rose was the Talisman which was a orangey/coral colour with a dark highlight on the outer petal.

Better shake a leg here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning  everyone. 34° and frost on the cars this morning. May is not starting very nice here. On local news they were warning this area about lighting any kind of fire because everything is tinder dry. I know we have not had rain for a week or so and the air and winds have been very dry. Have not heard of any brush fires yet so maybe people are being careful.

PHYLLIS  like you I do not like texting either. If I have to I do not type on those small keys anymore, I say what I want and send. Glad I noticed the microphone on the text screen. I really do not like cell phones, even taking on one.  Only time I am OK with it is when power or Cox is out I can use the cell and facetime to talk with my daughter.

SHIRLEY  watching the news last night and that tornado in or near Wichita I was wondering if it near you.

BUBBLE  growing up we wore a carnation on Mother's day and on Father's day, Red for still alive and white if they had died. A shame that tradition faded away. Even when my 3 were little we still wore carnations on our parent's special day. That was at least 65 years ago. Thank you for all today's goodies and all you do behind the scene to keep us going.

Have a good day and stay safe.

I am almost teary eyed with the great text this morning, Bubble... I copied all to send my kids. I always thought about the red & white (rose or carnation) from WWII wearing and the Mother's Day ones, didn't know it came about before. Thanks for all you do.

Amy, I read every word & bookmarked the link about leeks.... interesting!  Next is to see if they grow in KS, I'd like to give 'em a taste test! Thanks!

Gloria, my house is west of the central part of town & tornado was southeast. News coverage is so good we don't get upset unless "it is headed OUR direction".... I really didn't think it did that much damage but been hearing about a lot after the fact. Only one gr-daughter lives in the general area & she was on the phone with her mother the whole time. The dogs were the biggest problem.  ::)

Lloyd, feeding the birds is a full time job around here. I had some cans of peanuts left in the motorhome for nearly 2 years & some pecans & walnuts that got out of date during the Covid period.... plus some grapes that didn't get eaten fast enough & discovered some kind of bird would eat anything I put out.... and one robin built a nest on a light fixture where the robin that stayed with us for 8 years always built her first... and would come to look for food near the porch. Maybe one of her babies?  Been putting cooked "loose" hamburger out & that bird zooms down like I'm late serving her breakfast! She is almost as tame as her mother was, maybe in a few years?  Doesn't take much to make me happy!

I got a little less than 5 hours sleep last night (Fitbit doesn't lie) so will get a nap as soon as I eat lunch. Sun is shining and weather guesser is promising rain later in the week.... promises-promises!

Good morning...
Rained during the night and temp at the moment is 48°
Busy day here with men coming to install the propane heater in the garage. I am on call should my friend need help today.

Met our friend yesterday to pick up my quilt and I am pleased with the quilting. If it dries up I will try and get a photo of it.

Patricia better to err on the side of caution, than to get caught in rising water.

Shirley, I do think they are in your area..

Jane, hope today is a better day for you.

Gloria, can't wait till the flowering crab blooms or the lilacs love them both!

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper has arrived and is patiently waiting for his morning walk.  I like to wait for it to get full daylight and maybe for the rain to stop or at least slow down.  We've had it all night and I'm ready for some sunshine.  The report is saying that it is "cloudy".  Maybe we got lucky.

I'm trying to use up stuff that is taking space in the fridge so there's room for Frankie to keep stuff she needs.  I suspect that she will spend more time here than she does at home while I'm at Cindy's.  And since the guys working on Cindy's house are giving her a hard time, we might be adjusting that visit!  I told her that I'm flexible so she can do it whenever!

Today is cooking and baking day.... unless Cathy decides that it's shopping day.  I'm flexible there, too.  If she goes to WM this week, I go to the hair salon.  I'm desperate for a haircut!  I need a couple things but she can grab them while I get rid of some hair!

I guess I better get moving and take the Cooper-Snoop for his walk!  He's ready!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning  everyone. Not up to chatting this morning. Think I will have something to eat and take my morning pills and then lay on the couch and have a nap. CNA gets here at 1 this afternoon so have time to snooze.

Maybe better stop having a nap every day. Read an article yesterday that said those napping more than 20 minutes every day may be on the verge of Alzheimer's. Gosh when I have a nap it is at least an hour. Glad I do not believe every thing I read.

Have a good day and if I get really awake later I will be back.

Shirley, you don't have to go searching for wild leeks.  You can buy them in the Produce Section of the grocery store. That's where I get them when we get a hankering for Leek and Potato Soup.

Hope you are feeling better this afternoon, Gloria.

Thanks for the laugh, Callie.   :2funny:

Take care, All.

Phyllis, we don't have the wild leeks in the grocery stores, just the tame one. If one goes to a farm market they may be able to find some. I was just lucky that friends dropped some off and I planted some and ate the rest!! Delicious!!!

Sounds good to me & soup REALLY sounds good right now.  Watching radar as a new batch of storms head our way, be nice if they showed up daytime to take photos  >:(  :(  , but we take what we get, right?

Just talked to my friend across town to see how her holly bush is doing... she lost 2 last winter but the other one is sporting little berries right now, just like mine. Mine is taller than the house & has been cut back many times, has several trunks that are bigger than my thighs & leaves are a healthy green. As far as I remember those little clusters of berries never showed up except before Christmas & I always did my trimming to use the branches for decorations with candles in the center. This AIN'T Christmas, folks! The trees have leafed out enough I can't see through them so guess winter is over.

Gloria, if we are headed into Alzheimer's because of naps, I'm in BIG trouble. I rarely get 5 hours sleep at night but enough daytime naps to make my average just over 7 hours total (daily last week). Sleep is main reason I wear a Fitbit, besides it keeps good time.

Tiger is waiting for her red meat meal. She loves chunks of it & probably will get more than she needs without having to share with Tom & Callie. Better get a move on, need to dry that load of clothes & make up the bed. Hate that job but easier to put same sheets back on than have to fold & put away. I thought a Queen bed was hard to change until the KING in the motorhome & so little room to walk around in it. Ah, well, talking won't get the job done.  :-[

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🌷

We had a nice rain during the night and it is the first measurable moisture we have had in a month.  Very thankful, but 🙏🙏 for more🤷

There was a clap of thunder through the night that scared half of our county to death.  Many did not know what it was and there has been all kind f chatting on social media all day long.

SHIRLEY, I worried so when I heard about and saw the damage from the tornado in Wichita. So glad you were not in it.  I am sorry that Callie Cat has gone missing.  😩🙏

I thank you, Bubble for our nice new SS.  The story about the rose was very enjoyable to read.  My favorite rose is the Peace Rose, but I love them all.

PATRICIA, I see the worry about where the water on your balcony is going to go has come to fruition😩😩

AMY, sorry you had your down time after the Covid Booster.  I hoped it might be different for you this time, but it seems you will continue to have this feeling with any that may follow.

We had our electric meter changed out today.  We knew it was coming, but did not know when.  Everyone has been dreading it a# most have complained that their bills increase exponentially.  Reason being is that they now can charge you different amounts for the units depending on the time of day you use them.  Many places have gone to this new meter system it seems.

My Boston son has been in Arizona visiting my dad and his in-laws.  He has really enjoyed the time with them as well as seeing some old high school and college friends.  He went with a couple of his college friends to the closest beach area in Porto  Paenasco Mexico where the friend was participating ina triathlon.   He has not been down there in many years and was shocked at how developed it is now.  They stayed in a beautiful resort that was over $400 a night.  By far not the old "Rocky Point" we went to for many years!

We have decided to go to dinner at our favorite pizza place tonight as some of the proceeds will go to our grandsons lacrosse team.  Always like to support places that do things like this.

So good to catch up and see what you all are up to😍😍😍

Jenny

Hello Everyfriend!  After about a month of needing a haircut, I finally got one today!  I feel a couple pounds lighter!

It's nice to see so many of you in here, today.  I miss you all when you don't stop by!  Please don't be strangers!

I ran across a recipe called "Cowboy Stew" and it not only sounded good. I had all the ingredients.  So I made it today and now I know why cowboys are cowboys!  They eat well!  I'm going to post it over in recipes because it's not only good to eat...it's easy to make!

I've been hooked on my library book this week and it's really getting interesting.  The mystery is working out and I still don't see where it's going.  His books don't wrap up until the last few pages!

I'm heading for the haystack in a bit!  Cooper is arriving early this week and I don't seem to be able to squeeze in a nap any more.  I guess I won't have to worry about Altzheimers!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!  And may he look after the Ukrainians!

Sweet dreams & God Bless to ALL.... Who was it that sang, "may the Good Lord Bless and Keep You"..........??  That's all that I remember but my brain is already asleep tonight. I hear Tiger snoring, she is my shadow & know she would love for me to go to bed so she can settle down for the night.  I can hear that man's voice singing & it stops before I can think of who used that as a theme song..... help?  I'm off to bed... Love y'all.....Shirley
Okay, Eddy Arnold & Kate Smith for starters on that recording.

A wet day today...we are off to the city for an appointment.

Propane is all set up and the boys did a great job. Instead of building a fire on  all Kyle has to do is flick a switch if need be.

Baked a cherry pie and a blueberry square and put some in the hidey hole.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think it was Kate Smith who closed her show with that song.  But I could be wrong!  I couldn't open what AMY put in.  If I could have, I'd probably prove myself wrong.  I'm not good at music.  I like it but I don't remember stuff.

I got up to greet Cooper's arrival and I just remembered that Frankie is off today!  So here I am, wondering what to do with the next couple of hours!  I think I'll go get a second cup of coffee and have a piece of AMY's cherry pie.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S,  It's already 45º today and heading for a high of70.  I'll take it!!!

That is the one, Rick! I looked to see when it was made & thought sure it was during WWII, guess not. That is the voice I was hearing in my head, can't imagine why the name doesn't ring a bell. If you listen to every word that was how my mind worked, guess always has. A soothing melody. Thanks.

Jane, could be right about Kate Smith, my memory didn't store up stuff/names. I stayed up much too late last night listening to a lot of old time music on uTube.

Lloyd, you sure get good service from the VA, is that the one in Warrensburg or KC?  Take it easy. I saw a western the other day that I've never seen before (thought I had seen them all) but can't remember what it was now. I watch mainly for the background scenery, mountains & woods, but the old ones always had a happy ending, I like that!

Amy, I was looking at some old photos and will double check but THINK the date on one of a plate full of "wilted lettuce" (from my trug) was a year ago this week.... and I don't even have the trug cleaned out & planted yet!  This is one crazy season! Better move, the "Mow guy" is supposed to be here this morning, not sure he understands yards that back up to the river dry out faster than others, we are nothing but a little dirt over sand. Had an inch of rain yesterday on top of the half inch from the tornado. It all helps turn things green but timing a little off, needed it a month ago. Gates to unlock, hope he shows up.

Good morning  everyone. It rained overnight but not much. Most of it was in the southern end of the state along the ocean.

SHIRLEY  if that article was true about long naps and Alzheimer's I wonder how I am still living alone and not in a nursing home by now. A nap for me is at least an hour. Some mornings I have one cup of coffee and end up having  a 2 hour nap.

LADIES all the talk about leeks sounds like the taste like onions so will pass on them. Looking at the small ones they look like what are called  scallions here.

SHIRLEY  last night I turned on Grit to see what was on and it was the best Stage Coach filmed in 1939 with John Wayne, the only one worth watching IMHO. Of course I had to stay up and watch it again. Have no idea ho many times I have watched it. None of the remakes they have made of that movie I tried watching and could not watch long.

Have a good day everyone and be healthy and happy and safe.

Good morning from an Interior in flux, a now normalized state! Our highs are in the mid-fifties to sixties depending on which area of town you're in, and our lows are in the mid to late thirties. We are still about thirty days behind the old normal temperatures, and that seems to be our new normal since January!

We're a city bisected and surrounded by five rivers, so we're impacted both by proximity and being the place where all the possible flood refugees (Or fire if need be) come. The conditions are such that my friends who planned to come into town are staying put in case they're unable to return home. So, I will be venturing out alone to pay any bills and stock up on groceries. This is becoming frustrating. If it isn't Covid, a snowpack, or an overabundance of road ice, its entire sheets of river ice loosening and causing floods by ice jamming!

I have a friend who was on a family zoom call that included a brother who is a Catholic priest. She was jokingly teasing him about his "dad bod" when he came back with, "Don't you mean, "father figure?"

Her family is wonderful, and I told her she needed to adopt me!

Well, this new computer is not making it easy for me to learn!  Some things are great and some things are hiding from me.  My email "stinks" big time.  I can't find the old stuff of the new stuff and every time I go in there, it's fuull of stuff that I thought I'd deleted!  I'm looking forward to being in my daughter's house and being able to holler, "I need help" and have it right there!  She's a computer expert!

AMY, I sent you the rhubarb juice recipe....I think!  If you don't get it let me know and maybe I'll just post it in here.  I know I can do that!

I haven't heard a word from Frankie all day and she usually texts me about something by this time.  She was really tired when she picked up Cooper yesterday and I bet she's sleeping it off today!  I was going to make some cookies today but I got hung up on my book and some other stuff that needed doing and never got the baking done.  Maybe tomorrow after Joyce's funeral.  I'll need something to keep my mind off that!  I hope you are all having a good day!

I finished my book and I'm really sleepy.  AMY, I'll post the Rhubarb Juice recipe tomorrow.  If you don't see it, reminde me.  I got your note on my phone email that the one I sent from the computer didn't go.  Now I'm going to go to the haystack and conk out.  The book was great and I can't wait to start the next one!  If you like mysteries, Jack Higgins is GREAT!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep!  Nighty nite!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I know there's a way to make this print larger while I'm doing it but so far, I haven't been able to find it.  I'll keep looking because I can hardly see this one and I know I'm leaving some mistakes!  It's time for Cooper's arrival so I might be interrupted and have to finish this later.  And also I might have to post the rhubarb juice recipe later.  But I remember it.

Cooper has arrived and he's had his breakfast.  Next will be his walk but he'll wait for that ntil I finish my breakfast.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Today is my friend Joyce's funeral!

Good morning.
Doesn't look as though we will see any sun today, be a nice surprise if we did!

Morning is fun of domestic duties (thanks Callie) and then in the afternoon I go for my haircut!! Last haircut  was on Oct  so long over due and time is not the only long thing either.

Jane, thank you. Rhubarb is almost ready to leaf out so it will be a while before it can be picked.

Patricia, good come back!! Hope the flooding didn't happen. I see areas in Manitoba that are under water. :(

Lloyd, best be on your best behavior today. :)

Gloria, they are small like scallions but pack a punch of 10 cloves of garlic in one. Tasty little beggars'!

Better get a move on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I listened to every word and enjoyed seeing the words .... thank you, Sandy!  I did sing along since nobody around to hear me, just can't get enough of that tune & those words this week. The whole world is so shattered with hate & dispair. During WWII it felt like this except everyone in MY world hugged and helped each other "in case it was the last day".

I honestly thought it was my job to make people smile, make them forget their troubles even if just for a few minutes. I was serious enough about it that on my way to school one day(7 or 8 ) I didn't smile at an old man when we passed on the sidewalk & felt so guilty I ran around to the alley & far enough back to cut through the houses & pass him again so I could smile. We lived quite a way from school but everyone walked, gas rationed but even if not, "it was good for us". I had to make up time for back tracking, being tardy was not acceptable! Funny what was important to us and what we remember, my sister & I lived in different worlds the way we remember.

This is mow day, yesterday morning was but they are running late. New crew & may not work out, he seemed upset when I called his number yesterday after noon to see if they would be here or not because I had a couple errands I needed to run. He was really sassy & acted like he is doing me a favor instead of WORKING for ME. The problem is keeping gates locked because of the pool, I know the laws & insist on being here when gates are open.

A couple years ago AT&T wanted access to the back yard to pull lines, so I unlocked those gates & told them to be sure to close the gates when they were done & I'd lock later. Looked out later & they were nowhere in sight & left gates wide open. Next day they came to the front door & wanted access to the back again so I explained I wasn't going to unlock them again & why. Turned out they could do their job but had to carry ladders to the back & saved them that extra effort the day before. Public access on each end of the "block" & most of us have fences because people were cutting between the houses & quite a few of us have pools.

Anyway, my heart pounds when people aren't nice, love to find a good handyman but nobody wants to work for measly $20-$25 an hour cash. The lawn guys get $50 & takes a crew just 15-20 min, at least that's what my neighbor timed them at. Guess I'd better get off & do what I can while I wait for them. I hear thunder, clouds moving up from Callie again~~

Good morning  everyone. Another gray gloomy one here. Weather guesser keeps saying rain and we get a brief shower, just enough to wet the pavement and then dry up faster than it fell. These have been the kind of days I just want to sleep all the time and the CNA I have been getting is one if I dozed she would sleep, too. If I do not tell her what to do she would sit and close her eyes like she was having a snooze. At least I have 2 days with 2 good ones and both of them are 2 hours each. This lazy one I have 2 days a week and both are for 4 yours. I am about ready to call the office and tell them I do not need her for 8 hours a week. she is so "good" I sent her to a CVS to get a script that was ready to pick up. Takes at most 20 minutes there and back if the store is busy or the traffic because schools were getting out and getting in back of a school bus. At no other time is there traffic holding anyone up on the roads in this town. Took her over an hour and when she got back she said she could not find the CVS and her GPS kept sending her to another state so she got lost. Then I called my son and asked him to go get the pills for me because I did need them. I had used the last one that morning. He lives 3 miles from me and a little further from the CVS. He was here at the door in under 20 minutes. The route number is well marked and it is all pretty straight. I just looked at her and said you want to try lying to me again? Her face got red and she said nothing. My son knows me and I try hard not to insult anyone especially in front of anyone. He did not say anything then but he called me later and wanted to know why I did not send her. If I did not know the company was not so short handed I would have called and told them to keep her away from me. She know the next time she gets on my nerves she will not be coming back. Pretty bad when a woman in her 40's cannot do anything right. I am beginning to think Yvette will never get back to work. Sorry I am unloading here again. I know these CNA's don't get paid as much as flipping burgers at any of the fast food places but----

JANE  I like a good book with a mystery and a "who done it"  and you keep changing your mind until the end when the bad guy or gal is revealed.

AMY  raw garlic is something else I would never be able to eat. I do use it in my spaghetti sauce=or as the Italians in this state say spaghetti gravy. Would not be tasty with out it.

Think I better get a move on, just because no one is coming today does not mean I can leave the bed unmade today. If for nothing else my Mom would scold me for not making my bed every morning.

Have  a good day and stay safe.

Good morning all! I'm up, showered, fed myself and Farrah, and had coffee. The rest of the day is open.

Yesterday, I packed my watch for repair but forgot to drop it off. I purchased a new watch that was smarter than I seem to be and need to return it; and last but certainly not least, I went to a mall optometrist to have my eyeglasses frame tightened, only to find them; closed and moved to Anchorage! The only others I know about are in clinics rather than malls. Barbers and hairdressers remain closed, or at least the ones I saw.

I did find almost everything on my list; shelves are full again. However, there were only one or two wearing masks at each place. The buses, taxis, and rideshares still require them.

A Soggy Good Afternoon,

Can't believe I have the heat on and am wearing a sweatshirt on May 4 !!!!  A big clap of thunder woke me up 2 hours earlier than I had the radio set to come on but I stayed up, anyway.

This is the time of year that warm fronts head north from the Gulf of Mexico and "cold" fronts are still coming down from Arctic areas.  Do wish they'd find somewhere else to meet and clash other than Oklahoma!!!!

I've been complaining about not seeing birds but guess I haven't been getting up early enough. This morning I saw the usual cardinals, chickadees, doves and sparrows and also saw a Brown Thrasher, a pair of Downy Woodpeckers and the first hummingbird I've seen this spring.

Patricia, I used to have a kit with a little magnifying glass, a tiny screwdriver and even tinier screws that I could use to tighten my eyeglass frames.  Still have the kit and magnifying glass but must have used up the screws and can't find the screwdriver.  Need to put a kit on my list for the next time I go to Walgreen's.

Shirley, the Cleaning Service I'd used for years recently closed for lack of help.  I'm sure I was paying the price I'd started out with but was shocked when I began finding an individual to clean my house twice a month.  Hired one my neighbor uses and she's really good but when I divided the price she charges by the time it takes her to clean, it's almost $40.00 an hour.
Guess I shouldn't have been so surprised at the salary my grandson started out with.

JaneS,  My son set me up to pay regular bills (like utilities) on line through my bank. I just completed the second time to do that and I agree with your Some things are great and some things are hiding from me.

Have gotten the few Domestic Duties done and am trying to stay awake and alert enough to do some Desk Work.  Sounds as if we may have another noisy night so maybe I should take a nap.

Hoping Everyfriend is having a Wonderful Wednesday.

Gosh , it has been a busy day here..Gentleman stopped in to pick up a trug he ordered last Nov. Then another couple stopped in just after lunch to look and I had to leave them with Kyle while I got my hair cut. I feel so light headed now with all that hair gone!! Another lady called to see about a trug.....busy times here LOL

Jane thank you for posting the recipe, I will be sure to have it all on hand to make when the rhubarb gets ready to pick. Sent you an email.

Going to go out and check to see if Miss Little Hen has laid an egg on this side of the fence.

Now the day is over, night is drawing nigh, shadows of the evening steal across the sky!  Well, maybe all that happened a little while ago but I'm ready for this one to be over.  My friend, Joyce's funeral was very well done.  All four of her daughter's and their families were there and we had lots of hugs!  However, I came home feeling lost and tired!  I really miss her!  But this was a very nice closure!

Frankie is here spending the night and we don't have to be up early.  She doesn't have to be to work until 11 tomorrow morning.  It was good to have the company tonight.

CALLIE, I saw that there was a tornado warning for the Tulsa area tonight.  I texted Cindy to see if it was near her and she said it is.  However, she was in Texas at the place that she works for from home and was just leaving there at 5.  I thanked her for letting me know that she'd be driving right into the area where the tornado was predicted.  I also told her to text me when she was safely at home so I could stop worrying about her car being picked up by a tornado!  I have not heard from her yet.  It's just about time!

As soon as I hear from her, I'm hitting the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!  And may he give a hand to the Ukrainians!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Nothing special to do today.  Cooper and I were up, had our breakfast, took a walk and now he's back in bed cuddled up with his "mommy".

It's a gorgeous day in Central Pa...mostly sunny and heading for a high of 71º!  I'll take it!

Haven't figured out what's on the agenda for today other than trying once more to change the filter in fridge.

RICK, we sang that song at Girl Scout Camp and it will always be a part of me.  I loved it then and I still do.  It came to mind when I took doggies our and it was just starting to get dark.  Also, when I called little kids in to get ready for bed and when we camped with our family anywhere and everywhere.  I still stand on the front porch and sing it at dusk.  Of course, I sing softly so the neighbors won't hear.  I can't carry a tune in a basket!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning  everyone. I have been sitting here reading-like reading a book? and not saying anything. first thing that brought something to mind is CALLIE's remark on what people are paid these days. When I first went to work in 1947 the minimum wage was $.55 cents and hour. I was working 40 hours a week at 16 and also supporting my parents. My Dad had a massive heart attack and could no longer work. There is more help these days helping people than back in those years.  My siblings were married with little ones of their own and helped when they could. Sure glad I do not have to pay for the CNAs I get but some do not deserve what they get because all they want to do is sit and use their phones or talk. Some do not even know how to wash dishes, I now check all of what they wash and get surprised at how many I have to wash over. I can do dishes but no longer can sweep or wash floors or polish furniture or do laundry and after that fall a couple of weeks ago I will not shower till a CNA is in here. Of course I have a life line but feel safer with someone in here.

JANE  like you I am having trouble getting used to this Dell I have. Glad I have an external drive with things I want saved but cannot get them to the computer now. I need my grandson to come back and finish setting this one up when he has time and I hate asking him. I know he is working from home but he is on call 24/7.

Better get  a move on before Ms. Lazy gets here.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning,

Gloria, I do realize that everything costs more (WAY MORE!) today and I suppose pay reflects that.  I have An Opinion about that sort of thing but really shouldn't (and won't) express it in a public forum.  :-X

Jane, did you hear from Christie?
The Tulsa area is "out of the viewing area" for the OKC t.v. stations so we don't get detailed information about what's going on over there until the next regular newscast.
Hope she made it home without running into any of the horrible storms that crossed the state from s.w. to n.e. last night.  Fortunately, none were in the OKC metro area but Seminole, a town about 80 miles east, was practically destroyed by a direct hit from a large tornado.

Still very gloomy this morning but supposed to be better by afternoon and then be nice all weekend.

Nothing else to report from my little corner of the world.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning! Today will be spent returning to town to return all the things I thought were right but weren't and following my list to find all the items I forgot or errands I overlooked on Tuesday.

Our weather is sunny and bright and warming into the sixties each day with the lows in the mid to high thirties. All the rivers are running high with snowmelt coming out of the mountains and undermining and lifting the ice. The issue is that some of those long floating sheets of ice can back up and jam, leading to flooding in smaller towns and villages along said rivers.

Sorry I haven't been to talk about everything going on in other worlds today but NOTHING is going as planned/hoped... so far here. Was waiting on lawn guys but got more rain instead. I looked at radar & KS was blank at the time so I couldn't start anything to be ready for them when they got here. Instead another half inch of rain showed up. In between feeding birds & watching out the window I figured I'd check out the grocery sales & print my list. Oops, said no paper when I went back to the room where printer sits. Okay, checked how to install paper, first time since son set it up. Armed with smarts of how to, got the drawer open only to find it has paper. Went ahead & loaded some more since I knew how to. Tried to print the list again & computer insists I need to load that ding-blasted paper. Anyone have a clue what it doesn't understand IT HAS PAPER INSIDE?  Help: it is a Brother HL-L2350DW.

Anybody else have a problem with "multi-tasking" as we get older?  I used to could cook, referee kids, answer the phone & smile all at the same time. These days I head to the other end of the house to do something & forget by the time I arrive.

Gloria & Callie, I'm still muttering about these people getting paid so much per hour when they didn't have to pay a university a wad of money for 4 or 5 years for training. As Gloria says, "some have trouble washing dishes".... I am on a grouch so need to shut up.

Hope that works for you.

It WORKS, Amy!

While I was playing with the printer I noticed the computer attached was OFF, guess from that storm yesterday?  I got it up & running & came back to tell the computer that held the document to PRINT and IT DID!  Thanks a bunch, my usual fix for things that don't want to cooperate is a little kick but doesn't work with electronics.  :-\

I even remembered the name of the bird I saw yesterday & again today. One was a female & other male goldfinches. I saw a Baltimore oriole yesterday & know some live behind the houses across the street. Think I will get a jelly/jam feeder for them. I don't do much else for fun.

I just got home after re-running all my earlier forgotten errands and fixed all my mistakes except for the eyeglass side frame. It looks as if the optimists are among those still awaiting re-opening. I came out to dark grey clouds and drizzles. What happened to our promised sunny day and what will happen to all those ice sheets that don't need more moisture?

In 2020, they gave me a hearing aids prescription but of course that went the way of all nonessentials appointments back at the start of the pandemic. I wonder if I should try again?

Hello Everyfriend!  It was a beautiful day here today...up into the low 70s and sunshiny!  I loved it a so did Cooper.  He was out in the yard more than he was in.

CALLIE, Cindy is the one who lives in OK.  And she made it home safely.  She said about 40 miles was bad driving and she said a prayer that she'd get there safely.  I guess her prayers and mine both worked.  She texted me when she got home so I could go to bed

I started to get out my summer clothes.  I've been way too warm in bed the past couple of nights so I need my summer PJs.  And I'm riding down to my sister's on Saturday with my grandniece who is going home from a nearby college for the weekend.  Then I'm coming back on Wed. night with my daughter and SIL who are going there for a sports event.  I haven't seen my sister since COVID shut us down and it's time.

I'm off to the haystack now.  Time to get some shuteye!  I have lots to do tomorrow including having Cooper from 11 to 8!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!  And may he watch over the Ukrainians!

Yayyy I can stay home today....no running to Drs!! I was happy with the report my Dr gave me yesterday.

Today is work outside  after inside work is done.

Shirley enjoyed your photos. Yesterday on our way to the Dr. I noticed the osprey are back in their nest.

Bubble, enjoyed your birds too!! I can be entertained for hours just watching animals.

Better shake a leg and get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning  everyone. Yesterday was the first 70° day and it was a day to go outside but I was in here all day.. They are working on the elevator yesterday and today. Poor lazy CNA had to use the stairs,  did I feel bad for her? The best CNAs are the older ones who know how to do a job, the young ones have no concept of how it is to work 8 hours a day.

JANE  glad your daughter  got home safe so you could get to your haystack for your beauty sleep ;)  Like you I have been waking up at night too warm so I had the CNA working to get my comforter washed and dried and got my summer spread out and on the bed and the comforter put away till next fall. Already had the clothes changed around.

LLOYD  hope you slept better last night.

AMY  glad doctor report was a good one.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link to Shirley's photos.

SHIRLEY  out of focus or not I love seeing those birds but especially the male cardinal.

We no longer have bird feeders in the front of this building, they are messy especially the humming birds. sorry the witch is the only one who sees the mess but we enjoyed watching them, even the bird bath had the part that holds the water is upside down so we no longer can see the birds have a drink of water or get in and "have a bath".

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I loved the bird pics, too!  Today is supposed to be a rainy one all day.  Cooper won't like that.  I loves to go into the yard, bark a bit at stuff and then find a sunshiny spot and stretch out!

Today will be a busy one!  I have a eye dr. appt at 10:45 and I'm getting ready to go to my sisters tomorrow.  That means laundry and packing and I'm working at getting the summer stuff out.

GLORIA, that wasn't nice of the witch to close down all the bird things!  They need help too and she's depriving all you tenants of the pleasure of watching!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning!  I'll be disconnecting my laptop to take with me to my sister's and I'm not 100% sure I'll know what I'm doing when I try to connect after I get there.  Maybe I won't be back in here until after Wednesday when I come back home and I can call the nice guys at the computer place for help.  In case I don't see you all, have good days.  It rained here all day yesterday and is supposed to rain most of the day today.  Is this April or May?  Or are we just a month behind?

Good morning..

Another nice day in the making here. Laundry will blow out dry in no time.

Yesterday was busy. Two men stopping one in the morning to get 2 trugs and another later on to get one trug. One will pick up his trug later today and the other on Mon . After Kyle put the lining in the one trug off we went to get more lumber.

Today is laundry day and goodness knows what else. Any time I plan things it goes haywire so I am just taking the day as it comes.

Jane, have a great time at your sisters. I did get your correction on the juice and have put it down on my copy.

Rick ,yesterday was an awesome day here..lot of outside work was done. Azaleas are so pretty...One lady to the north of  us has one  that winters over, I didn't know they would survive our cold winters.

Gloria, I think it shocked all of us.. Dr ,nurse and I were all pleased.

Better get a move on.....days seems to fly by on me..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I was tired last night & woke up at 4:30am with leg cramps. Know I haven't been drinking enough water & Gatorade lately so blame is mine. Had both & Tiger had a bowl of Fairlife milk so think we'll go back to bed. Had a frustrating day with lawn mowers yesterday & it shouldn't be that difficult of a task to keep me awake at night. Enough griping, starting to get daylight so better either eat breakfast or back to bed.

Jane, I had a look at the photo of my first "wilted lettuce" salad & it was dated a year ago today.... and the trug isn't cleaned out or lettuce/spinach even planted this year. Not our imagination that this is a strange year. Enjoy the visit with your sister.

Another week end, where did this week go? Good night or morning, daylight now & wind is not blowing, had enough rain this week so I don't need to water. Any time the wind isn't blowing the sprinklers get turned on but not today.

Amy, we are supposed to have a super hot week so I'll take my throw rugs out to wash & dry, love to have a clothes line. Life a lot different with one cat that has the run of the house & knows what  the litterbox is for. Sure miss Tom & still watching for Callie even tho I'm sure she is dead. Congrats on the good Dr. report.

Good morning  everyone.  going to my son's for Mother's day today instead to tomorrow. By the time they get home from church after noon time they are not ready to start cooking and I know how that is. It is quite windy here today and tomorrow to be the same with more of a chance of rain.

JANE  at times I wonder if it is her of the company that wants this building looking neat and beautiful. They own other buildings but when they have "important" people invited-maybe looking for investors- they all meet here. All the community rooms on the ground floor are closed to tenants. They have food brought in for dinner and coffee and snacks for them in there all day. Have a safe trip and enjoy your visit. will look forward to reading all about it when you get home.

AMY  I learned years ago not to plan anything because every time I did something happened to go wrong.

SHIRLEY  you sound like me, have breakfast and then a nap.

LLOYD  glad you slept good for a change.

Better get breakfast and then shower and get ready to go to my son's home. Rather stay home and have a long nap.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Kyle wanted to take me out today but with our anniversary coming up I opted for dinner out on our anniversary.. restaurant won't be so crowded then.
Lloyd, it is a very special day there for you and Nancy. Enjoy!

Gloria, now you can just rest today .

We don't have any plans for the day but I suspect her daughter and grandkids will show up sometime.  We've decided to order a pizza for one of our meals today.  We're both hungry for pizza.  And what better meal for two mothers on Mother's Day than something they both love!

I hope you all have a good day!  LLOYD, your day is certainly special!

I think I hear Margie stirring around up there.  I hope so because I can't find the coffee!  Enjoy!!!

Good morning  everyone. Had a good time yesterday especially with my great grandson there. As usual my DIL and son had too much food and I brought some home. Shirl made a wonderful chocolate cake for dessert and I have a big piece of that. Mike sat down for awhile and I turned the PC on to get ready for Skype time with my daughter. No computer. What now, it was find when I shut it off when I left for dinner. I could see what was in the PC but get online. Called Cox, not much help there. Mike called his son-the family guru and he came over. The gal on Cox said it sounded like maybe the modem was messing up. Anyway He talked to David and when he got here he brought a different WIFI with him and installed that, the one I had was an old one he  did not use anymore. He is always improving what  he has his pc at home and keeps what he took off but is still good. Not that so he called Cox and talked to a man this time. He wanted to talk him into a new combination modem and WIFI that would add another $15 to my monthly bill. That would bring me over $200. a month. David to the rescue again, he moved wires around and got me on-line till he checks out the routers and will get one for me, He gets a discount on anything to do with computers from where he works, an arrangement with the company and I think it is Best Buy. So no Skype yesterday but I did call her and talked for a few minutes.

I slept late this morning and now it is time for my second cup of coffee. Maybe instead of breakfast food I will have some of that chocolate cake with the coffee.

Have a good day everyone, especially all MOTHERS.

I'll work my way back to where I said "good night"..........

Gloria, we're either ready to stomp these computers or die without one. I hate when all set to do something fantasic with one & it's dead. Bet Regina would have loved getting to see everyone so hope somebody had a phone to sub with. I'll check out JL after posting, had too many disappear when I get off track.  :-\

Jane, sounds like you & your sister are a lot alike. My sis & I are so different it is a struggle to even remember the same things. I was more in tune with my brothers. Is she older or younger?  Enjoy!

Amy, Tom died a few weeks ago but Tiger was around all day as he moaned. Because he was so terrified of all humans I didn't have the heart to take him to the vet for a more humane death & my oldest son was here most of the day & had just gone through his oldest cat dying so helped me. The youngest son volunteered to bury Tom down by the river, I did  appreciate that. When Callie insisted on going outside late night I had a feeling what the reason was and hoped it would be easier than what Tom went when thru. Every day, all day I check the doors to see if she wants in. Tiger is still distraught & looks for her, even going outside off & on all day, something she hasn't wanted to do for nearly a year. She used to go down to the river with me, all 3 did, but not lately. Tom & Callie both showed signs of getting worse, he was almost completely blind the last few days & Callie had to shake her little legs to get up & move. Sad as it is, they had longer lives than most ferals and for sure, never went hungry! I do feel sorry for Tiger, she is lonesome, I am not much fun these days.

Lloyd, always a special day when a grand or great-grand reaches a stage of carrying on our Faith in God. Extra blessings for the parents.

I came back to view Gloria's card & didn't find my post!!! Another OOPS!  Amy, Rick, & Patricia, I know what happened, you snuck in and I wasn't paying attention, Tiger came to tell me it's lunch time for her so I didn't scroll down to notice y'all posted.  Lucky for me this post was still on the clipboard so saved the day! AND, the card is beautiful, Gloria!

Spring has arrived in the Interior!

"Fairbanks National Weather Service Observation Program Leader Craig Eckert said that power had been shut off in Manley Hot Springs and that water was approximately one foot deep throughout the village, according to reports from residents. The National Weather Service updated their flood warning for the area on Saturday morning.

"An ice jam has formed on the Tanana River downstream from Manley Hot Springs," the flood warning said. "River observer in Manley Hot Springs reported significant flooding in Manley Hot Springs as water continues to rise along with ice flowing up through the slough. The observer reported that almost all roads in Manley are flooded and that several houses on the slough bank have water either in or surrounding them. Water is over the Elliott Highway across from the Manley Hot Springs bathhouse."

The flood warning remains in effect until 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Eckert said that the flooding was being caused by a pinch point where the ice was jammed, backing up water downriver from the ice jam.

"This is the second-worst flooding ever," Eckert said. "We believe, the locals there said this is the highest water level anybody's seen in 45 years and so that, you know, it's bigger than 2012 and then the record flood was in 1956.

The National Weather Service also issued a flood watch for the Yukon River near Eagle."

The article was fascinating! Did you know that Alaska has volcanos and volcanic fields, more than any state, and many more than Hawaii? Of these, about ninety are still active and might be expected to erupt again.

I haven't been to Great Sitkin, not many have as it sits at the end of the Aleutian Chain, far out to sea. The one I've sailed past and flown over as many have is Sitka's Mt. Edgecumbe. "On Kruzof Island, about 13 miles west of Sitka, Alaska, sits Mt Edgecumbe. The extinct volcano is 3,200 feet in height and covered with snow about eight months of the year." It has recently had some new activity. "UPDATE April 23, 2022:

Satellite radar data from the Alaska Volcano Observatory indicates that there has been steady uplift since 2018 in a large area to the east of the Mt. Edgecumbe crater, "consistent with an intrusion of new material (magma) at about 5 km (3.1 miles) below sea level."

The Alaska Volcano Observatory on Friday (4-22-22) released new information which appears to confirm that the recent earthquake "swarm" under Mt. Edgecumbe (4-11-22) is the result of volcanic activity, rather than the background tectonic activity of the Queen Charlotte Fault.

An analysis of satellite radar data over the last year shows significant uplift over an 11-square mile area just east of the Mt. Edgecumbe crater — totaling almost 11 inches. The deformation has been occurring at a steady rate of over 3 inches per year since 2018, and "there has not been an increase with the recent earthquake activity."

"The Queen Charlotte Fault runs offshore Southeast Alaska, almost perfectly straight, for over 500 miles.

It's a rare geological feature – called a "leaky transform fault" – where the North American and Pacific plates continually slip past each other.

Because it's a plate boundary, the Queen Charlotte Fault is deep, extending down through the Earth's crust and into the mantle. Thousands of years ago, the movement of the fault opened a conduit in the crust, and molten magma pushed through and formed the Mt. Edgecumbe volcano.

Dr. Gary Greene thinks that the April 11 earthquake swarm indicates that the process may be underway again.

"When magma starts heading towards the surface it re-melts the rock that is there and it fractures that rock and the fracturing is what causes the earthquake," said Greene. "So as the magma starts to move up into the crust and and gets closer to the surface, you start getting these, these low magnitude earthquakes, which were experienced last week (April 11). And then it can shut off, which it sounds like it has now. But it can start again any time and if the fault moves some more, it can cause dilation again and then cause more magma to start reaching up towards the surface."

Greene is retired from a long career with the US Geological Survey. He's an emeritus professor at the Moss Landing Marine Lab at San Jose State University, and he holds a research faculty position with the University of Washington's Friday Harbor Lab.

But his specialty of late has been mapping the undersea Queen Charlotte Fault, and the Mt. Edgecumbe volcano is a product of that fault. The Queen Charlotte is tectonically active, and reliably produces measurable earthquakes – which usually propagate laterally along the fault.

The April 11 "swarm" was located under the mountain, and the quakes appeared to migrate upward from deep in the crust to shallower depths. But like his peers at the Alaska Volcano Observatory, Greene says it's too early for dire predictions.

"The good sign is that this might just be a hiccup," said Greene. "It just started and there wasn't much pressure below, or much dilation, to cause this thing to really start to break towards the surface in an explosive event, but it also could be a precursor to what may occur sometime in the future."'

Good morning..

Perfect morning out there ,sun shining and temp is cool 35° but will soon warm up.

A trip to the lumber yard for more material to make trugs. Then I am going to work in the garden before the bugs get too bad.

Shirley,I had forgot that Tom passed. You must find a big difference with just only one now. What a great life they had though..I am just mixing in new soil (top dressing) and some sheep manure to get the trugs ready to plant. A man should be picking his two up today, one 4' left yesterday as a Mothers Day gift.

Jane,I bet you and Margie had a lot of laughs! David is off to Mounds OK this week.

Better get a wiggle on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

And I'll add my gripe to the list. This was the day to open the RV, extend the slide & have the awning roll out, all to let the rain collected inside all that stuff drain out. BIG problem is the awning has an auto setting that will close it if too windy so can't put it out which defeats the purpose of the whole job.

That is one "sorry" for today & the other biggest problem is I can't get the lawn guy on the phone to see if he remembers doing my yard last fall... I screwed up royally when I got this last guy so desperately need to get another lined up. I've asked opinion of #2 son about buying a "zero turn" riding mower (the John Deere in my shed it too big for me to handle) but was reminded that I'd still have to trim & with it in the 90s this week, something I know I can't deal with. Had my first heat stroke at 18.

In Sam's yesterday a lady was manning a display of the yard "robo".... but she didn't know much about it & since I saw both sons yesterday they reminded me that "still need to trim". I won't let them mow since both have yards to take care of & keep theirs pictue perfect.  The other gripe is the AC/heating company that installed & has been doing maintenance twice a year... can't come until June 3.... and I never turn on furnace or AC until they've checked, oiled, changed filters, etc...  but did do it just now & house already feels cooler (and is).

I fixed the "bloom stuff" with Brita pitcher water & watered my new pots of petunias & the hibiscus. I may need to move the pots later but today is too windy so need to keep them from blowing over.

It is lunch time, Tiger already fed so I will eat & maybe take a nap before starting work outside. I'm watching a robin running around on the pool cover, water is high enough the worms are floating & robin is having a ball. The cover says not safe for adults to walk on but the cats loved it & birds enjoy after a rain. Water can flow through but only when it is low enough the cover doesn't touch. Need to get the cover taken off & drain down at least 6-8 inches. I do not love a pool but it is here!

I'm jealous, Shirley, of your robins and greenery! We're in the midst of our fourth rainy day, and even though it brings flowers, I wish all that rain would go away! And take with it our current 36 degrees!

Mitchell Expressway at the corner where it joins Richardson HWY is closed due to flooding, as is Barnette Street and Cushman, both located close by rivers.

When I have trouble falling asleep, which is most nights, I pretend I'm a coma patient who can hear those quietly speaking around me. Sometimes this helps and often not if used too often in succession.

I just watched this Ted Talk where a man has used light drumming to tapping exercise nightly and gone from perhaps four hours to seven and a half hours of sleep nightly. He explains that the brain recognizes, likes, and follows regular rhymic patterns. He used nodding your head to music as an example. Perhaps his actions might help you sleep.

I want to see if it works for me.

I had issues with my iPad and Bob had to clean it out and reload.  Good news is it fixed the issue but the bad news is it dumped a lot of my saved things and I've had a terrible time getting in to my STUFF like Seniors and Friends. 🤪🤪

We are staying with the grands again this week. This s the last known time we will be needed here.  School will be out soon and we won't need to stay here as we do now.

I had a wonderful Mother's Day, and I hope all the mama's in here did as well. Three flower deliveries so my home has been smelling like a florist shop and making me smile🥰🥰

Take care and be safe EVERYFRIEND.

Good morning  everyone. another pretty cold one for May. Got a surprise, the heat is still on, I turned the thermostat up to see and the heat came on. Feels so good. So glad I did not put my winter robe away when I did all the winter clothes. Could it be the witch is getting older and is beginning to know how we elderly folks feel cold more than the energetic younger ones.

RICK  a little late is better than never.

PATRICIA  that was my empty brain making that echo sound yesterday. Had a good CNA yesterday, wish I could have her the 2 days I have the lazy one. That one likes sitting with her eyes closed. Every time I see that I come up with something for her to do. I no longer have her massage my back, it hurts more after she tries but the worse is I have to tell her every day she comes to go wash her hands. She always holds them up and looks at them and says they are not dirty. I ask if she touched anything on her way into the building and she says yes. I tell her they are dirty with germs and she will not wear gloves like the others do, make her hands sweaty.

AMY  yesterday was so deceiving here. Sunny and bright blue sky but very windy. The CNA said when she got her she thought she would get me outside for a walk but changed her mind with some gusts more than 45mph. KYLE is keeping busy with those trugs. Sure has no time to bet bored. Is his village buildings all finished? Would love to see that all set up.

JANE  I am happy for you being with your sister and enjoying it so much.

PHYLLIS  as long as it is sunny the days seem better than days of rain and gloom. I rather see it snow, at least that  is pretty to see. My older son and family went to Hawaii a few years ago and loved it and then sailed to Vancouver and flew home.

JENNY  I am still waiting for my grandson to come and finish getting this new PC all set up and he started that on December first last year and here it is May

LLOYD  at times I have nothing to say but still manage to post something just to let everyone know I am still alive and kicking or complaining.

CALLIE  how is Miss Oklahoma today?

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning..

Another great day in the making here, the hot weather is also bring out the blackflies. Right now they are just staking out territory and not biting but when they do bite look out! Finished with the back garden ,now to get the front dug and put black mulch down to match the rest.

Gloria, Kyle has finished doing the village buildings and bird house. He has sold some bird houses  but rather enjoys building trugs. Will take some photos for you. I would not tolerate that CNA...wearing gloves is part of her job when she goes into folks homes...she should know that.

Jenny, how is your Dad doing? Is your shoulder feeling better?

Patricia, I listen to Ildivo. Rarely do I hear the end of the cd.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Beautiful here, too.  Sunny, breezy, low humidity, temp. will only go up to 73 deg. Perfect day.

Except......I broke a tooth so I will spending some time in the dental office today.  Ugh!

Take care, All.

Good Afternoon,  Oklahoma is setting all-time records for high temperatures in May with temps in the high 90's and "feel-like" over 100º.  It's humid and the wind is blowing a gale, too - so not very comfortable to be outside.

#1 son/DIL helped me get plants for the "pot garden" and planted them last Friday.  They were with her family for Mother's Day because her Mom isn't doing well and family is aware that each holiday may be the last one they get to have with her.  I certainly understand that!  I told them that kind of day was better than any gift they could possibly buy me.

#2 son/Dil were supposed to return late Saturday night from a week on Sanibel Island in Florida. However, their flight from Fort Meyers was delayed for over an hour and they missed their connection in Chicago.  Airline provided overnight and got them on a flight Sunday morning but they were worn out by the time they got here and I certainly wasn't going to expect them to "entertain" me.

So Sunday was the usual quiet day for me - and I was/am absolutely fine with that.

And that's what's going on in my corner of the world.

Have a Terrific Tuesday, Everyone.

When I woke this morning at seven, there was white on the roofs and lawns. By eight-thirty, the white was melted, and we're back to rain and 43 again. Today's forecast is for mixed snow and rain, and the skies aren't cloudy; they're white.

Gloria, I'll gladly send you any snow we receive, even the expected trace amounts!

Callie, I'll blame you for our weather, Oklahoma stole all the heat!   :tickedoff:

Amy, music keeps me awake but pretending to be a coma patient "tricks me into fully relaxing" and empties my mind of incessant thoughts." However, it doesn't always work for me. It's sometimes hard to turn off my mind and relax.

Today is part of a deeper clean for my first apartment inspection, Thursday. I don't know if they'll start at the top or the bottom of the building, but I expect my turn will be on Friday or Monday if they run into issues elsewhere. It's the first return to regular biyearly structural inspections since early 2020.

They're also attempting a termed soft opening of the rec rooms on each floor. They stress in their notice that "The social rooms are for residents and employees only." And "ask that residents continue to practice safe behavior in the common areas."They further ask that the "number of residents congregating in the first-floor social room to no more than ten residents or staff at one time." I hope this means they're returning to pre-pandemic staffing.

They further stress that those using the rec rooms make use of  provided hand sanitizers, "Practice social distancing and be respectful of your neighbor's wishes regarding social distancing." They finish by adding if you feel sick, please do not enter the community spaces.

On the one hand, there's management, staff, and residents. If residents want something, then the term independent residency is stressed.

Good morning...

Busy day ahead, first is to take the van in for an oil change then pick up soil and get to work on the garden.
Neighbour called to say that just up the road a momma bear and her three cubs were spotted. A lady heard a noise outside to find all there on her porch!

Lloyd, that will be fun to watch the babies grow!

Jane ,enjoy each day to the fullest with your sister,. We miss you but know you will be back here soon.

Patricia, you may also have some of our heat too! Working outside yesterday was a little unbearable..

Callie, time sure has gave a different meaning to words. Pot, grass and weed are some that have double meanings now.

Phyliss, hope it was an easy fix for your tooth. Our temp was about the same as yours.

Better scoot..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning  everyone. Another cold morning here and the heat is still on, glad for that, I turn it on till I s tart feeling warm enough and turn it down and that will be it for the day. Cloudy sky and a chance of rain later and if it starts raining I will have the heat up again to keep dampness out.

PHYLLIS  sorry about the broken tooth. I have the rest of mine to come out but am leary of any dentist now after the last one put me into the hospital with too many antibiotics. Wish the one I liked here had not retired when he did.

AMY  when that lazy CNA got here yesterday I had a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table where she sits and I told her since she does not like washing her hands she better use the sanitizer before she starts or put gloves on. She went to the bathroom an wet her hands I don't know if she even used soap and I always put a clean towel out for them to use and a roll of paper towels-she wiped her hands on her butt.  I really wanted to scream when I saw that.

PATRICIA  we are never told when our apartments will be inspected. The manager shows up with someone else to check every thing. I am not a slob and I dislike clutter. I can no longer clean like is did and depend on the help I get but the 8 hours I get with the lazy one do not help. The last couple of weeks I had her do the laundry-no more grocery shopping for her, she cannot do that right either. I keep light colors together and the dark ones separate from them. I yelled at her this week a white towel came back blue. She mixed up the 2 laundry baskets and a new pair of dark blue capris were put in with the light. She said she always washed like that at home. I asked her if that is why she always wears black.  I so wish my body had no given up on me.

That office must be open by now so will try calling and see if I can get a good worker in place of lazy.

JANE  looks like you are having a wonderful time with your sister. I am happy for you. We will see you when you get home, just enjoy your time together.

Have a good day and stay safe

Good Morning,

Patricia, Oklahoma was probably stealing heat to compensate for freezing temperatures during the past two weeks caused by an Arctic Front.  ;D  ;D

Amy, those different meanings are why I call my 10 planters a "pot" garden - with my tongue firmly in my cheek.  ;)

I'd never use the Ted Talk suggestions because I can't stand repeated noise of any kind.  Wind chimes and dripping fountains drive me nuts!  Also need a dark quiet bedroom to sleep well.

My day is starting out very well.  Dermatologist office called to say that the spot on my ear that was biopsied last Friday is benign.  It's a "Verruca"...a medical term for wart.  I Googled Verruca and learned that it's also called a "senile wart". I could have a lot of fun with that one!  :D

Off to see what kind of mischief I can get into.....

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, Everyone.

Good morning!

Callie, I've always liked your dry wit.

Gloria, we are back to the manager's twice-yearly structural (and housekeeping) inspections with a maintenance man. We also have a yearly smoke and carbon monoxide inspection during which they bring a firefighter and a maintenance man to test alarms. We had a review by corporate in 2020 just before covid that included representatives from the state capital offices and the manager, and a maintenance man. The suggestions put for that time were never followed through due to Covid. The one planned for Thursday is a follow-up and a catchup.

Callie, it has been colder and snowier for the past three years, this year has been especially noticeable for failing to warm. This is a contradiction because you need humidity for it to snow and cold air is dry air.

"Global warming is a gradual increase in the earth's temperature generally due to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants. "

What is Global Warming?
Causes of Global Warming
Man-made Causes of Global Warming
Natural Causes of Global Warming
Effects of Global Warming

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the phenomenon of a gradual increase in the temperature near the earth's surface. This phenomenon has been observed over the past one or two centuries. This change has disturbed the climatic pattern of the earth. However, the concept of global warming is quite controversial but the scientists have provided relevant data in support of the fact that the temperature of the earth is rising constantly.

There are several causes of global warming, which have a negative effect on humans, plants and animals. These causes may be natural or might be the outcome of human activities. In order to curb the issues, it is very important to understand the negative impacts of global warming.

Causes of Global Warming
Following are the major causes of global warming:

Man-made Causes of Global Warming
Deforestation
Plants are the main source of oxygen. They take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen thereby maintaining environmental balance. Forests are being depleted for many domestic and commercial purposes. This has led to an environmental imbalance, thereby giving rise to global warming.

Use of Vehicles
The use of vehicles, even for a very short distance results in various gaseous emissions. Vehicles burn fossil fuels which emit a large amount of carbon dioxide and other toxins into the atmosphere resulting in a temperature increase.

Chlorofluorocarbon
With the excessive use of air conditioners and refrigerators, humans have been adding CFCs into the environment which affects the atmospheric ozone layer. The ozone layer protects the earth surface from the harmful ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun. The CFCs have led to ozone layer depletion making way for the ultraviolet rays, thereby increasing the temperature of the earth.

Industrial Development
With the advent of industrialization, the temperature of the earth has been increasing rapidly. The harmful emissions from the factories add to the increasing temperature of the earth.

In 2013, the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change reported that the increase in the global temperature between 1880 and 2012 has been 0.9 degrees Celsius. The increase is 1.1 degrees Celsius when compared to the pre-industrial mean temperature.

Agriculture
Various farming activities produce carbon dioxide and methane gas. These add to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and increase the temperature of the earth.

Overpopulation
An increase in population means more people breathing. This leads to an increase in the level of carbon dioxide, the primary gas causing global warming, in the atmosphere.

Natural Causes of Global Warming
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are one of the largest natural contributors to global warming. The ash and smoke emitted during volcanic eruptions goes out into the atmosphere and affects the climate.

Water Vapour
Water vapour is a kind of greenhouse gas. Due to the increase in the earth's temperature, more water gets evaporated from the water bodies and stays in the atmosphere adding to global warming.

Melting Permafrost
Permafrost is frozen soil that has environmental gases trapped in it for several years and is present below Earth's surface. It is present in glaciers. As the permafrost melts, it releases the gases back into the atmosphere, increasing Earth's temperature.

Forest Blazes
Forest blazes or forest fires emit a large amount of carbon-containing smoke. These gases are released into the atmosphere and increase the earth's temperature resulting in global warming.

Effects of Global Warming
Following are the major effects of global warming:

Rise in Temperature
Global warming has led to an incredible increase in earth's temperature. Since 1880, the earth's temperature has increased by ~1 degrees. This has resulted in an increase in the melting of glaciers, which have led to an increase in the sea level. This could have devastating effects on coastal regions.

Threats to the Ecosystem
Global warming has affected the coral reefs that can lead to the loss of plant and animal lives. Increase in global temperatures has made the fragility of coral reefs even worse.

Climate Change
Global warming has led to a change in climatic conditions. There are droughts at some places and floods at some. This climatic imbalance is the result of global warming.

Spread of Diseases
Global warming leads to a change in the patterns of heat and humidity. This has led to the movement of mosquitoes that carry and spread diseases.

High Mortality Rates
Due to an increase in floods, tsunamis and other natural calamities, the average death toll usually increases. Also, such events can bring about the spread of diseases that can hamper human life.

Loss of Natural Habitat
A global shift in the climate leads to the loss of habitats of several plants and animals. In this case, the animals need to migrate from their natural habitat and many of them even become extinct. This is yet another major impact of global warming on biodiversity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is global warming?
Global warming is the phenomenon of gradual increase in the average temperature of earth . It is caused by the release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs etc. into the atmosphere.

What do CFCs stand for? What is the role of CFC in global warming?
CFCs stand for chlorofluorocarbons. Ozone layer is responsible for protecting the surface of the earth from the sun's harmful radiations. CFCs destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere. This makes the way for the ultraviolet rays to reach the earth, thus, increasing the temperature which leads to global warming.

How does global warming affect climate change?

The change in climatic conditions is a result of global warming. The burning of fossil fuels, cutting down of trees etc. causes the temperature of the earth to increase. High temperature changes the weather patterns, causing the dry areas to get drier and wet areas to get wetter. Thus, increasing the frequency of disasters like floods, droughts etc.

How can we control global warming?

The release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere is the major cause of global warming. It can be reduced by setting a high price of carbon, increasing the biofuels production from organic waste, use of renewable energy like solar and wind power, safeguarding forests and improving energy efficiency and vehicle fuel economy.

Good evening everyone...

I got my 4th Covid shot today,  and so far, all
is well.

Patricia  I listened to the Ted Talk and
will be trying it when I go to bed tonight...

And I will  keep trying it and see how it works.

Since I tend to get up a couple of times a night,
perhaps it will help me to get back to sleep easier
each time.     If I am not careful,  I have a hard
time slowing my brain down,  so perhaps this will
stop that from  happening, or stop it when it is
happening.

Thanks A LOT  for the good advice.

How did you make out???

It sounds as if we have some of the same issues, Sandy. It seemed to work somewhat for me as I still slept only about four hours, but...I didn't wake up at the halfway point. So, we shall see further on.

Edit: At 5:27, I finished my total deep clean of my apartment for tomorrow's inspection by the head housekeeper from the state capital's office, which was rescheduled from the pre-pandemic 2020 inspection. I was getting ready for a scented steaming bath only to notice a paper shoved in my doorway

They've canceled tomorrow's inspection and rescheduled it for the end of July! What the heck?!?

TWO inspections in two months time!!

Sorry about that Patricia..

Unfortunately,
"'He who holds the gold makes the rules' is a saying that holds more truth than a surface reading indicates. It is not simply a statement that those who are rich get to make up the rules through the influence their money buys. No part of this saying indicates the amount of gold being held."

So If I were brave enough,  (and   I am not),   :knuppel2:
I would shout through the door,
" Come in if you don't mind being exposed to Covid!! "

I hate those inspections,  I find them demeaning.

Of course ,if my building was full of
Horders,  I would begin to appreciate the inspection
act.

What is wrong is waiting for the last minute to
cancel     I wonder who's bright idea that was?

Have a good day,  Everyone!!

Good morning  everyone. I had a good CNA yesterday, we had a good 3 hours. I have had  this one on and off since I first started getting help. I also called the office about the lazy dirty hands one I get 2 days - 4 hours both days. Thursday will be cut to 2 hours. I told her about her not washing her hands and refusing to use the sanitizer (she wanted to do some cooking for me :idiot2: ) She said she will talk to her. I made up my mind that once again if she refuses to wash her hands with soap and water and at least using paper towels to dry her hands and not her butt she is going out the door and I will not sign her work sheet either. I might end up with no help but thiis not washing hands is getting to me. She washed them when washing dishes. Have you ever heard anything that stupid?

Every day is getting a bit warmer here but not humid yet. The first humid day we get I will be asking my sons to get the AC into the window. Of course with only one window in this room it cuts the light coming in but I have a lamp on just  about all day here where it  lights up the keyboard.

PATRICIA  at least you get a notice when there is an inspection. In the booklet we get here it  says we get a 24 hour notice, never happened, they just show up no matter the day or time. Wonder if they ever let  themselves into an apartment and found someone in the shower.

I am running late, lazy will be here at 10:30 and I am still in my nitey so better hurry and get dressed.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning; I woke up at 38 degrees and steady rain. The weather report says rain on and off today to match my mood. This "spring" is not warming.

Amy, thanks for the chuckle your advice gave me this morning.

Gloria, we have a large clip affixed to the left of our doors for notices but they're also slipped under or into the side of our doors. We also get email notices or for those with a television who subscribe to the channel, showing the roving views of the public area camera channels, they see messages that occasionally show on the screen.

There are not only management or maintenance notices, but various resident committee notices or appeals and memos from the social coordinator. Now that we're having what is termed as a soft opening, I'm sure we're have more of those. One was our first Memorial Day picnic outdoors rather than in the still locked first-floor rec room, the only one with a kitchen. If the weather is cool, I hope they consider opening it.

Sandy, we have a hoarder. Unfortunately, he also has sticky fingers. We're told to be more charitable when management automatically makes a trip to his apartment anytime something is missing.

And yes, I'm being grouchy this morning.

Hello, Everyfriend!  I got home about 10 last night, tired and ready to sleep but I made myself unpack first and put everything away.  And guess what I discovered?  I left my computer power cord at my sister's house.  I called her to make sure it was there and it was exactly where I suspected it was.  They'll all be coming up later this month for Bethany's graduation from college and they will bring it then.  In the meantime, the place where I bought the new computer has lent me a power cord.  They are such nice guys I'm thinking of adopting them!

We are having temps in the low 80s today.  I have all the windows open and I took a long walk this morning (my alternate to no being able to get on the computer).  It felt great!

I've read all your entries and the only one I'm going to comment on is GLORIA's about her lazy, good-for-nothing person who won't wash her hands.  I think, if she were coming to my house, I'd save ur all the dirty dishes (or make some dirty) and have her wash a sink full of dirty dishes first thing in the door!  Then her hands would be clean, like it or not!

My sister and I had a great visit.  We cooked and ate well, gabbed continuously, and laughed a lot.  We took a couple of long walks and sat out on the swing on her back porch and watched the people going by and gabbed some more.  We stayed up late and slept late in the morning.  All in all it was great and we have plans to do it again!

Now I have to go see if I got any mail and figure out what I'm going to make for supper and then try to catch up on the newspapers!  I hope you are all having a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Cloudy and dreary here today.
We are getting some of the nor'easter that caused so much trouble out on the Outer Banks for the past 3 days.  It is moving inland now.

Gloria, I didn't have any trouble with the broken tooth.
He was able to build it back up with resin and it feels just like it always did.  I met the new young dentist that bought the practice and I really like him...better than I liked the old dentist.

Glad you are home, Jane, and glad you had a nice visit.
Take care, All.

I've been in several (maybe more) times today but didn't feel like talking so didn't. Had much to think about early since my fixer son asked me to do a couple things to determine what was wrong with the well/sprinkler system. Fed Tiger & thought I'd better do my running to the basement to turn off & on the sprinklers & back out front to see how they were doing & open the sand filter like son said.... before I had MY breakfast. Called to tell him how it went so he said he'd stop by on the way to the university (still working on grades for his students, couple hundred last I heard). I had everything ready for him to scrub out that filter & he was exactly right, soon as he put it back together & I ran back down to turn the system on.... it worked perfectly!  He is SO smart.

While out I hand watered flowers that don't get the sprinklers, fed birds, finally came back in to eat. By then it was nearly lunch time (so Tiger thought), cut up her meat & fixed my lunch & went to the back bedroom to make up on lost sleep. Friend called to remind me about the art show today so I put the TV on the PBS station & closed my eyes to wait a few minutes for the show to come on. Woke up a few hours later, switched stations & promply went back to sleep. And by the time I got back to the kitchen it was supper time & the day was shot.

I have to do better tomorrow, gotta clean the trug & plant lettuce seeds. I was hoping to run to MO before planting since it needs water a couple times a day because the wind drys out so bad. Been in KS since 1960 and don't remember wind EVER being this bad so long. A news article recently said "it isn't our imagination, wind has been worse than normal".

About those inspections, if the contract says they must give you 24 hour warning & just show up, I'd said, "sorry, I have an appointment and just leaving, make it tomorrow but let me know so I don't have another engagement."  If necessary I'd lock the door & dare them to come in when I'm not there, and put a mouse trap (stack of something) by the door to be able to tell if someone came in. Must be some kind of "renters rights". Of course this is the whimp that allowed several different lawn people bully me.  :-[

I think Jane has a good idea for getting hands washed, a stack of dishes in the sink  might convince the dirty girl it's less work to just wash her hands!

I am sleepy but expect one more "kid call" before I go to bed. 2 of my 3 call every night and the other one comes every Wed after work & only calls for special reasons. I've never had him not show up if I needed him so can't complain.

Have a sad report from Jack, he had to have Mimi put to sleep in Feb, old age and no other choice. I asked him about a photo setting he was showing me, he is so smart about learning how to operate computer, phone or cameras, I planned to send photos to Bubble to post and when I started to mail to her I discovered I forgot to download the photos. Back to the drawing board. Will wait until tomorrow because I want to download from my camera, a photo of the Baltimore Oriole at my feeder this week, plus a better photo of a male cardinal for Gloria!

Had a quick check & sure enough, Jane slipped in. That's what I need to do, make a batch of taco soup, my freezer is out of it. Thanks for the reminder.

Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Love y'all.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  Cooper will be along shortly and I'm having my first cup of coffee while I wait.  I stripped my bed and the sheets are in the washer.  After Cooper is taken care of, I need to get a shower and get ready for an eye dr. appt.  And that will be my morning.  I hope the sheets are dry and back on the bed before it's time to hit the hay.

SHIRLEY, good luck with your day today.  Yesterday sounded like it took the wind right out of your sails!  That was a day and a half for sure!

I better get back on my horse before Cooper gets here!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning

Another scorcher in the making for here today.
I get get carrots, parsnips and beans planted yesterday.
Today I will pick up potatoes for planting tomorrow, will cut them today and let harden off. A trip to the dump to get rid of brush etc is needed also today.

Jane, bet it felt good to sleep in your own bed last night. Nice to go away but so nice to come back home .

Shirley, I have covers on three trugs and it was so hot in one yesterday I had to open it up a bit. I am sorry to hear on Mimi's passing. Jack is sure going to miss her.

Phyllis, I don't text..plain and simple. I will phone and talk or go see the person. Nice that you are comfortable with your new dentist. I was also lucky enough to get a good one. I do miss my other one but he is on a well deserved retirement.

Gloria, I too like Janes idea..

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

good morning everyone. well I read the morning post. and was makeing my two cents worth for today. had it almost compleeted and it disseapered and i can not fiend it. I had a good night's sleep last night. have already taken my vitials and sent them to VA. via sadelight with the machine. weather person here says rain on and off today. lookslike it can do it any time. it is very cloudy and over cast. the barn swallos are busy working on there new nest in our intery way. I spend a lot of time watching the birds. will be intresting to watch the swallos fenish ther new nest and raise there new ones. I think I will build a feeder box.and put it up for the birds, will put it quite  wase from the house as they make quite a mess around them. I have done that in the past. my youngest brother pased on to be with god. he had a brain cancer. he would ot let them work on it just sufferd. my  mymiddle brothers wife pased on a while back. she was creamated , her wishes. no cermoney for the famley and friends. the way things are in the world now days would be aliaght with me if god would call my number. I enjoy time with grand childern and more so with great grands. Right now there are a red wigned black bird eating in the yard,a pair of robbiens, the swallos are busy flying in and out workingin there new nest. Nancy puts bread crumbs out on the back porch slab and the birds get most of the but the neighbors dog runs in and steel most of them. we have lot of birds in and out. a bright red bird and a bluwe bird the redwigned bird and the swallos and severial little dark black birds with greay under sides.the clouds is starting to break away. I best close out now and go eat a morning meal. see you all later.

Good morning everyone. 61° to start the day and overcast. Had 2 fans going all night in order to feel cool enough to sleep. I can only open my windows about 6 inches, no strength to open and close them more than that. On local TV yesterday they showed a birthday celebration for a veteran of WW2, he is now 102 and moves on his own 2 legs. no cane or anything else and looks great. They showed all his medals and 3 of them were Purple Hearts, those I recognized. He really did not look that old either.

Oh yes. lazy dirty hands washed her hands and did a bit of work I did not have to ask her to do. Her boss must have talked to her and she did not say anything about getting cut 2 hours
either.

PATRICIA  yesterday turned out to be the warmest day so far and it did not cool much once the sun set. Just heard on local weather will be in low 80's this afternoon. This is when I start feeling miserable. I cannot take it  that hot. Pretty normal for spring here, one day we have heat  on and the next we want the AC on, no in between.

JANE  welcome home. LOL about lazy and dirty hands. Heck I don't want all the germs on her hands on my dishes. I have to wash them over because there is always food stuck on them. I asked her when was the last time she had her eyes checked and she said never, her eyes are fine, she passes the eye test for her driver's license. Glad the computer guys let you use a cord so you can use your PC. So happy that you and your sister had a wonderful time together.

PHYLLIS  my fingers are not good texting but I did see there is a microphone showing so I can talk and send a text that way. Talking with the CNA I have on Wednesday she asked me about the one I had that had me take too many anti biotics I ended in the hospital a year ago. She told me her husband just had a tooth pulled by the dentist and same thing. Infection -first script for antibiotics not working a second script double strength and he started feeling odd she told him not to take anymore and then called their doctor to check him. Will wait till Wednesday for the result.  I still have to find a new dentist to take the rest of the teeth out but I have to take 4 antibiotic caps before going to a dentist because of the replacement parts in my right shoulder. I am scared to take any of them anymore.

SHIRLEY  manager and maintenance can go into an apartment if needed if I am home or not.  I don't like that at all. Never wanted anyone in my home if I am not there. Have nothing to steal. To me it is an invasion of my property and me.  The owners of these buildings can come in anytime they want. I don't go out often so am home most of the time.

AMY  any one who comes in here washed their hands in the bathroom sink, the kitchen sink they can use later after getting rid of the germs they bring in with them. We have had some cases of Covid in the building and I do not want anyone bringing it in on their hands and getting it all over my apartment. That is something I do not need.

LLOYD  wish I could sit at the window and watch birds. I do miss that. I have not seen a red wing black bird in years. Only birds I see now are the ones flying over. Too high to see what they are.

Have a good day and keep safe.

Gloria, when I was in the hospital last October and November I thought about you and the antibiotics.  They gave me at least 2 courses and maybe 3...I don't remember.  I was a little worried but I just wanted to get rid of the pneumonia so I could breathe again and not have it hurt.  Eventually the antibiotics worked and the lungs began to function more normally.  I don't like taking them but I don't like being sick either.

Not windy here and not hot but it is dreary and rainy with stronger storms this afternoon.

Amy, temp. in the 80's doesn't sound too bad for me.  We have summers here up in the high 90's and the same level or more of humidity.  I think it would be hard for you to live here in the South.

Take care, All.

Good morning, 8:26 now, and it's 36 degrees this Friday the 13th for those superstitious; with the same weather notice we've had for a while, "Special Weather Statement issued May 12 at 1:23 PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks

...RAIN AND SNOW THIS WEEK AS RIVER BREAKUP CONTINUES...

A weather front will move across the Interior today through Friday, bringing a mix of rain and snow to the area. Expect generally less than one inch of snow at valley level in the Fairbanks Area, 2 to 4 inches over higher terrain, and 6 to 10 inches in the Alaska Range. This front will continue to bring cool temperatures across the area with lows in the 20s to lower 30s, and highs in the 40s to around 50.

Rivers levels across the area remain elevated as breakup continues.

Breakup conditions can change rapidly so residents near rivers should remain vigilant and be prepared to move to higher ground."

The skies have been white for some weeks now, with no blue showing.

Shirley, I was sorry to hear about Jack's Mimi. I know Jack misses her, but she had a wonderful life with him, and he with her. You did have a time yesterday.

I lost most of my plants when I couldn't walk or stand on my feet for more than a moment in February 2021. I also lost 31 pounds and eighteen weeks of recovery due to an injury that I was told would only be two to four weeks.

I lost another 20 when I went on the anti-inflammatory diet to regain some control over my allergies. Since then, I only purchased primary trailing plants, philodendrons, money tree, golden pothos, and ivies. On the eighth shelf, they are under grow lights because Farrah enjoys her greens a little too well, almost rabidly so.

Gloria, it's the same here. The state purchased these seven buildings when the president at the time made it impossible for foreign corporations to do business here. Public ownership has not gone well, many services have been cut, and then the pandemic happened. I don't know how many were sick; management didn't tell us. I know that three people in the building died, one who had lived here seventeen years.

The landlord and/or maintenance have the legal right to enter any leased apartment in the building if required. They are legally obligated to leave a notice stating the time entered and time left, the reason for entering, and the signatures and name(s) of those entering.

Jane, I'm sure you enjoyed time with your sister and she with you and time back at home with Cooper again.

Phyllis, I have a paradoxical effect with medications in that I usually have the opposite effect with them than intended. Because of this, they are cautious with any prescribed and meticulous before prescribing any pain medication.

I have never attempted any recreational drugs, as I would have been the one attempting to fly off of tall buildings.

I have not seen any birds close since they cut down all the trees on the backside of the building. And since they put in the new balconies, which are higher and solid, leaving only slices of the sky viewed unless you go out on the balcony and look down.

I am among those concerned with the water not draining but pooling on the balconies until evaporating because no drainage areas were left. The balcony floors are sheets of plywood over bracings and painted institutional gray with what looks to be marine paint.

The new screens are nice; however, they open on both sides while the balcony doors only open from the left, which seems odd, but what do I know?

My friends and I are still doing our morning texts and calls. I prefer texting because I was never one for long phone calls. I've always been a writer over a verbal communicator. My youngest sister has always been the talker in the family. You could ask about the weather and get a soliloquy back.

Or in my case, written acts one though three. :)

Phyllis, when we were working (carpentry work) we liked the temp around 70° ,made for nice working weather. Thankfully we are now retired
and when the temp is in the 80's I am in the house with the C/A.....didn't think I would like having C/A but oh yes I do!! Dogs like it too :)

Hello, Everyfriend!  It's been a very good day today.  I accomplished a lot of things...changed the bed, washed the sheets, blankets, pajamas, etc.; cleaned out the fridge and freezer; walked Cooper twice; caught up on the newspapers; paid some bills; went to the eye dr; cooked some asparagus my neighbor left on the porch.  All in all, I got things done!

It sounds like all of you were busy, too...gardening, greeting friends; watching the workers; checking the weather; taking a nap; taking a walk; gardening, etc!  Nice going!

Now I'm ready to hit the haystack!  I think I'll sleep well tonight!  I haven't corked off on the couch at all today so I'm ready!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!  And may He watch over the Ukrainians!

Good Morning to you,
Good Morning to you.
We're all in our places
With sunshiny faces
Goof Morning to you!
Good Morning to you!

It's a gorgeous day out there and I'm made a good start.  I have supper in the crock pot.  The kitchen is all cleaned up. The bed is made. I'm dressed.  I've checked my email. I made a batch of dog food.  I hope you I fed Cooper and took him for a very productive walk and I cleaned up and put away a lot of stuff.

Frankie will be spending the night here and that will keep me busy after 4 p.m.  I love having her stay but she sure is a busy beaver!

SHIRLEY, I loved the birdie pics!  I can't get close enough to my birdies to get a good pic!  I keep trying and then I end up deleting it!

I hope you all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning Everyone. Well this year is no different than any other year at this time. We finally get a few spring days and wham it is summer. No AC's installed and only fans to cool us off. I have not slept the last 2 nights because it was so hot and this morning I feel like an old wet rag. Just limp with no life left in me. When Bill called me yesterday to see if I needed anything from the market this morning he said he was going to call Mike to see if he was busy so they could get ,my AC installed. Do my sons know me?. They will install it and then it will cool off a bit before summer heat and humidity will be here to stay for too long. Then I will have space on the floor in my bedroom closet that will fill up over the summer. I have been told there is a room here that tenants can store their AC during the winter months and even if they had their names on them some have disappeared. Only manager and maintenance have the key so who knows what happened. There is a room on each floor where tenants can store things. I had 2 bins in there when I moved in with my winter clothes in. When I got straightened in here and had room for those bins I made an appointment with maintenance to open the room so I could get the bins so now every thing I own is in my apartment. I don't think I could get rid of anything more. At times I think of what I had to fill 8 rooms but then there was 5 of us living there.

PATRICIA  Never know who leaves notices at our doors, there are 3 different ones who do that but lately it is either maintenance or the new tenant helper because the papers are folded in half and slid under the door. Used to be rolled and put under the door handle. I have a time bending down to pick anything up so usually leave it there till someone comes here and picks it up for me. Bending over that far now makes me feel like I am falling over. If I did I would have to call for help because I would not have the strength to get up on my own.

HOORAY  my sons are here and I will be cool enough to sleep tonight. Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning; after yesterday's epistle, I'll keep this short.

The weather folks and news reports say next week will finally bring in warmer temperatures that will herald some green. I hope they're right. There is some pastel blue showing between those now wispy clouds.

Gloria, the social coordinator, uses the clips. The tenant hospitality committee members also use the clips. Maintenance slides notices under the door while management puts plastic bags containing paperwork on the door handle. When we were privately owned, space was provided for a fee if you wished to store items off-site. Those storage buildings were sold separately in 2016, and I don't know if any tenants kept their storage or gave it up.

Edit: You know it's time for warmer weather when the news starts offering videos on how to use bear spray.

I am stuffed...Kyle took me out for an anniversary meal and it was delicious! I asked for no potatoes, just dressing with turkey and vegetables. Too much food but delicious. We brought some meat and vegetables home for the dogs to enjoy.
Laundry dried on the line and now potatoes have been planted...now rest.

Patricia, we could use a rain here and they are calling for one tonight or Sunday. Then grass cutting will begin!

I was just going to read right now but I have to answer PATRICIA's post.  I think that I just keep going for two reasons.  The first is Cooper.  I love having hime her with me and taking walks with him is good for me too.  The rest comes from a feeling that if I quit or slow down, I might come to a full stop and I'm not ready for that.  I really didn't expect to live this long (and this healthy) but as long as I do, I'm going to keep going the best I can.  Come on along! It feels good!  And that's that for now!

Amen to that, Jane!  I whine & grip about working on the house but know I wouldn't be able to do anything if I didn't HAVE to. The cats have kept me moving just feeding & cleaning after them but I'm not sure I'm up to walking a dog again. Time will tell.

I just sent Jack e-mail to see if he minds if I get Bubble to post that kitten's photo.

Amy, how could you turn down mashed potatoes? The meal sounds delicious. How many years?Congratuations, hang in there!
