Retirement

I worked forty-five years for someone else
So that I could retire.
I dreamed of sleeping late
And sitting by the fire.

I dreamed of long vacations,
Enjoying stage and song.
But, let me set you straight on that concept,
It is simply wrong.

I did junk my safety glasses
And the work boots that cramped my toes.
But, the rest of it had a mind of it's own
And this is how it goes.

My wife had been thinking of retirement
And had plans of her own.
She had spent much time with the kids
But, now they are grown and gone.

We sold our cattle and horses
So we wouldn't have that chore.
I poured concrete over my alarm clock
But, I still wake up at four.

I get my eyes checked on Monday.
She gets hers checked the next day.
I go for a colon check on Wednesday
And pass my wife going the other way.

I have a dental appointment on Thursday
She goes for a test on her heart.
Friday, we go get prescriptions filled
And browse a while at Wal-Mart.

Saturdays, we just stay home
And try to get the paper work right.
We can't take any overnight trips
'Cause we can't see to drive at night.

Restroom confusion keeps us out of church on Sunday
And we really do hate that.
There's nothing wrong with the restrooms,
We just can't remember where they're at.

We don't need to plan next week,
Just make sure we can drive.
And not forget where the hospitals and clinics are.
We'll need them to survive.

So, don't build your castles too high, my friend,
While strolling through the clover.
This is a typical week in retirement
And on Monday we start all over!

Your life is difficult not because the past is holding you back, but because you keep thinking about the past and lingering there. Rather than haggling with your past, let it be, so that it can flow like a river. Your true self is not the river of memory but the one who stands beside the river, quietly observing its flow.

My Goodness!  What a nice, cleaned up Soda Shoppe we have here this morning!  And what fun things to read and (possibly) to identify with?  Thank you BUBBLE for being around here while I was sleeping!

Cooper has arrived for the day but it's still tood dark to walk!  So he's patiently waiting for me to go get dressed and then he'll be ready.

Today is the day Cathy is taking me shopping for the ingredients for fruit cake and tomorrow is the day I'll be whipping it together!  Then it has to have time to age!  Then it will go to Church with me on the Sunday before Christmas!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning Everyone.

I decided to hit the trail around the USA
when I was 69....  gave up everything cept my
van and hit the road for a yeaar.

I never regret doing that even though
after a year I ran into bad luck in Austin
Tx...   This put an end to my world traveling,
which I had done mostly alone.   So I don't
live with regrets of not doing  SOMETHING  before
age etc said  "no more for you" !...

And Yes,  Ten Years later  if I could I
would have continued traveling around...

I just love living in the center of Portland
maine with three bus stops down below me.

Of course Covid,  Flu etc makes me hesitate to
go very far.  But knowing if I really
wanted to,  I could catch a bus and  still
go visit where ever.

Best wishes to everyone.  Have a good week.

Hi Everyfriend!

CALLIE, I already  did the reading!  I finished off my second library book and now I'm  ready for the sleeping!  When I get up tomorrow, I'll have no distractions.  Cooper isn't coming because Frankie is off and no books are calling my name.

My plan for tomorrow is to make the fruit cake for Christmas so I can get it aging and have it ready for the holiday!  My mother will be with me in the kitchen right up to the end when she'll call in my dad to do the hard stirring.  I know this because I feel them there with me.  We were all a part of it back when my mother made it for the church's Christmas sale!  There's one person I wish was truly going to be here.  I can see my grandmother sitting in a corner of the kitchen chopping the dates.  Back then, they didn't sell the chopped ones and this year, I couldn't find chopped ones in the store so I have to chop them.  Gramma, where are you!  (Oh, right!  I'm the Gramma!)

SANDY, I always had a bit of envy in my heart when I read about your travels!  It was pretty neat what you did and I was one of the lucky ones.  I got to meet you on your travels!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good evening EVERYFRIEND.

The first day of November is in the books🤪

JANE, I loved reading about your plan to start the fruit cake.  I am smiling and crying at the same time thinking about your parent's and grandma being a part of this task in the past and in the present 🥰 I remember so vividly my mom, dad, grandma and grandpa all coming together as needed while making Christmas Candy and the like.  My great grandma was there too also cutting something up for the recipe.I am getting really bad at controlling my emotions these days when thinking about the past😩 Wonderful memories come into my mind and make my eyes leak‼️  I feel very sad for those that did not get to have these experiences growing up and now many just have no traditions at all in their lives😩😩

I had a call this morning from my internist office saying there are concerns on a lab test and he wants me to set up a telehealth appointment.  Now I get to try to figure out HOW to do this and wait to hear what the issue is.  I am grumbling.....why can't they just talk to us like they used to do?

AMY, seems I am tuckered out most every day and I do not put a drop of effort out that you and Jane do everyday😩🤪  Pitiful🤪🤪

Thank you BUBBLE for our nice Soda Shoppe and goodies you shared with us.  There seems to be a LOT of truth to your retirement story🤪🤪

SANDY, I believe your adventure was the envy of several in our group.  I am sad that it ended the way it did.....meaning your health, but it was not meant to be, and you will always have your wonderful memories 🥰

Hello CALLIE and LLOYD 🦅

Pleasant dreams to you all.

Good morning..

Although we are starting out at 39° we are to get into the 60's later on......above normal temps for this time of year! We sat outside having our tea yesterday, didn't even need a coat!

Jane I made an apple crisp and Kyle said it was a keeper. Didn't use oats but graham wafer crumbs. Split the recipe in two and one will go in the freezer for later .Will post the recipe   in a bit.

Sandy, we enjoyed our travels and meeting new people across Canada and the US. Can't do it now so we sit and dig back into our memories  to enjoy them again.

Jenny, there are days when my brain is more active than my body so I wait and hope the next day will be better.

Patricia, still have snow on the ground. We are to have above normal temps for this week and then who knows but I think snow will be on its way.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem!  Everything is laid out in the kitchen and I'm ready to go!

JENNY, you understand perfectly how the past and the people who filled it can still be around us in the present.  I want you to know that we ALL helped with the fruit cake back in our growing up years.  I even had a friend who would join us.  If she wanted me to do something and I said I had to stay home and help with the fruit cake her answer was always "I'll be right over!"  She loved it because her family didn't do things together!

Now I better get busy!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good late morning, it's 9:17 and I'm just sitting down. Yesterday we received a note from administration that the state is sending out folks AGAIN to do a structural inspection in mid-December. I wonder if this latest one will also be canceled.

They sent a note describing what needed to be cleaned and how and told us to send reports to maintenance BEFORE the inspection. Since asking for maintenance is similar to shouting into a black hole since they halved maintenance and security, most of us are skeptical.

It's warmed up; we had 12 as a low instead of yesterday's minus four, but so far, no forecasted snow. Tomorrow, I'm going with friends that are looking at houses as they're planning on selling their hillside properties. Age and climate change are forcing this upon them, and it's not what they want, but it is what it is.

Amy, I saw your apple crisp recipe, which looked good. I have a bag of yellow apples I've had for a week without sampling, so  I might try something similar with those. Since last week's temperatures dropped, I've been more into hearty soups and stews than fruit and salads.

I've not done much but played couch potato this past week, recouping any available energy, and I don't see that much of a change for next week.

I've been thinking about SHIRLEY, too. She has some medical problems and maybe she's decided to take care of them.  She avoids that kind of care most of the time but I had a feeling she was considering it this time.

I finished the Christmas Fruit Cake and it's packed up in it's aging place waiting for the brandy from Cathy tomorrow.  Then it just has to sit there and wait for Christmas to come and get out and get wrapped and ready to go.  There is about 14 pounds in various shapes and forms.  I try to make some that can be tried out by people who might not know if they like it.

Of course, Mother was in the kitchen with me the whole time I was working on it and Daddy joined us to give some "shove" to my arm for the last of the hard stirring.  He always does a good job.

When I had everything cleaned up and put away, Frankie and Cooper showed up.  Cooper needed a bath and it's easier in my tub than it is in their shower stall.  They were also prepared to spend the night. So we did supper together and cleaned up after together and enjoyed the company.

Now, I'm definitely ready for the haystack!  I have some hard cooked eggs on the stove.  Frankie likes to take them to work for her snack/lunch and we haven't done them for a while.  I made a couple extras for me to put in the red beets.

Tomorrow, Cathy is picking me up to make a trip to the Amish Grocery store and a stop at the library and the ATM on the way!  Then I'm coming home and spending the rest of the day reading!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Ah HA! Talking about me when I'm not here! Seriously, the phone has been busy & so has Shirley. This last chat with the Cardio (new doc, old one retired) has pretty much confirmed what I suspected but his opinion about "how long" does make one stop, think & plan. Since there are 2 main reasons I can't/won't let them work on the valves I do have to adjust my future. I figured I'd probably live to 120 with my good genes but knew it was time to see if anything could be done to fix the breathing problem.

Several things required to do the repairs, my body will not tolerate and I don't plan to let them shorten my time here on earth, which is what would happen with already experienced problems. Even the new doc agreed my chances of their choices helping are slim so why would I want to be miserable my last days?

If y'all know me/my attitude, I've already taken steps to do what I THINK will help and we'll see how this works out. Not sure if God is ready for this rebel and life is too good to change things right now so prayers appreciated and I am at peace with whatever happens. Plans are to hold out as long as Tiger needs me, I don't want her to suffer & it is MY FAULT she is so spoiled.

In the mean time, all the things that didn't get taken care of when Cas died have to be cleared out now so it doesn't fall to the kids. Been in this house for 33 years and the pac-rat was always sure "somebody could use this". I was telling my friend today that "I'll be putting sticky notes all over the place so each kid knows what is spoken for!" My friend asked why I didn't just give the things to the kids now and excuse was, "I might out-live them all and not like the way they treated MY treasures!"

So you don't think I am crazy, I got a full night sleep last night, no 3 hour wake up & eat. At peace with my decisions & think the kids are satisfied this is MY choice. I do not want to just be alive & taken care of in a bed. I've had a good life (better than deserved) and been happy with my share of the pie. I'm not saying "goodby", but have a WordPad on my desktop how to let y'all know (who to call) if I can't make it in here some day.

I was much more inhibited when Cas was alive, he kept me muzzled  ;) . Bless his heart he grew up in a different world than I did. I won't explain, but through out my life I gave myself NO EXCUSE for ever doing anything mean or wrong because my parents were so full of love and kindness I had to return what I received. Mushy but my way of thinking. I really am that Pollyanna of long ago. What goes thru my head comes out my mouth or in this case, my finger tips! Love you all & I won't talk about just ME tomorrow!

Good morning..

We took off yesterday to go pick up kindling.  On our way there we stopped at friends, I had items for her and she had some for me. On our way back we stopped at the Mennonite  market  and picked another half bushel of apples, Royal Galas this time.

I know what I would like to do today but will just do it and be done..I hope. Wanted to get it done yesterday but day went sideways....oh well it ws a fun day.

Jane, the people will enjoy your cakes!! You deserve to put your feet up and read after you get home from your trip with Cathy today.

Shirley, you have been found! :) One must chose the way they would like to live  and you know how your body reacts to meds.Something to ask the Dr is have they come up with a better med to help with your situation??

Better move it..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I've been up and attem for a while now.  Frankie spent the night and we had to get her off to work.  Now Cooper is saying it's time for his walk and he's right about that.

But I really glad I stopped by and had a chance to read SHIRLEY's message.  SHIRLEY, you know you are in my prayers daily and God knows exactly what it is you need.  We do not have to tell Him or ask for something specific.  I just ask Him to be with you and help you to get whatever it is you need!

Now I'm off to the races with Cooper!  It's cold out there!  When we get back, I'm heading for the showers so I'm ready when Cathy says she's on the way to pick me up for our shopping trip!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Interior morning, it's eleven degrees out there, our overnight low, and we did get a light snow dusting overnight. The forecast said we would have snow overnight, 4-8 inches, and the snow would be from midnight Wednesday to Friday morning. The snow is late getting that memo; perhaps later?

I'll be going house hunting with friends today who're looking to move and may pay a few bills and pick up a few things; we'll see how it goes.

I had there acedants All head injorys. when they werw operating on me with the Back injory, I littery died . when I was brought back, first thing I heard was one of the docters saying Lloyd come back with us you are too young to Die.One docter was standing there with those Paddles in hand that they shock you with, and one of them pushing in reathium on my chest.and no i did not see any thing that others have said they did see or here. they put two stents in me at that time , and seince that two other tines thay have put two more in me a total of six stents. and Last year they went in through the wrist up and through the heart and took another look, said they onley had to run the roter rooter to clean them out.and after that I was haveing pains again and they hooked me to a monneter and took readings, and said no problems. was most likly gas Pain. and i do hav a lot of gas and belching. when I get like that I have pills to take two and chew and swallo. and they do help.also your boddie repaires it self lot of times. example I had a arteruy grow out the bottom of my heart and go up to the top and attach its self.and i have had no heart Paine so fare seince. I just pray god have and take his way in his owen time. I do how ever wish some tomes he would speed the time up. the way so many peopel do wrong to others any more. if I have done wrong and possiable so I did not do it on purpose. I tell people I am a Lover not a fighter. have a greaght day and a better tomorow.

Been a busy day around here. Oldest son came over to "scalp" the front yard & pick up leaves at the same time with the John Deere. Problem is the wind was blowing those leaves faster than we could chase them down with the Toro blower! Never saw anything like it and at the same time with that strong wind, the sweet gum tree was dropping leaves like rain. At least quite a few neighbors have also picked up their leaves (unlike other years) so I am picking up mostly my own...7 bags full so far. Exciting day along with cleaning the sink in my bathroom, used about a gallon of vinegar along with half a box of baking soda, but it is running okay again! I also got in for my early vote, didn't want to risk missing that!

I never knew about the zippered sox... Cas wore old style for a short time but too much trouble getting off & on. The one cardiologist I "interviewed" after the old one retired just told me to "take a water pill" when I asked why only one ankle swelled if it was my heart. So I didn't go back to him!

Lloyd, like you, I've had my share of stents(2), 3 by-passes & the aortic valve replaced but none of it improved my breathing & I still think Covid is what made this all go bad so fast. I'm lucky that I've never had to ask for pain pills, can turn off pain in my head. Even with chest opened from top to bottom & left leg slit from knee to ankle the only "pain pill" I took was 325 mg.Bayer aspirin & that served as my blood thinner as well.

Can't believe we are sneaking up on another week end, feels like we just had one! And joy of joys, get to change clocks. We are supposed to get storms tonight & rain tomorrow, the rain is so needed. Bedtime in Kansas so hope everyone sleeps peaceful. God Bless and thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be short this morning.  It's time for Cooper's arrival and I have to meet him at the door.  It's cold here this morning but heading for the mid 60s.

Cooper is here and we both have our breakfast.  When it gets light, we'll have our first walk of the day!

SHIRLEY, my leaves need to be cleaned up but when they are, if it gets windy, I'll have them from down the street where no one cleans them up!  I don't know if it's worth it!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Going to wash the dog's beds and hang them out this morning. I don't have to wonder what's for supper as we have leftover chicken and dumplings from last night.

May have to look after neighbours critters today.. :smitten: After giving Rex his pill yesterday out we went and as soon as he gets 10 steps from the housdown he goes and rolls.

While Kyle and I were sitting outside having our tea, a raven flew over, so low I could hear the wind in his wings.

Patrica don't you love it when the weather doesn't get the memo? I know we will pay dearly for this nice weather we are having but in the mean time I am thoroughly enjoying this!

Better shake a leg and get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from the Interior; it's 11 degrees, with an expected light snow today. Yesterday's snow prediction never happened; we got only an inch of the 3 to 8 inches forecast.

Yesterday afternoon I went with friends to look at real estate offers in town which ranged from junky to basic cookie-cutter formats. No one was impressed. Altho, the two couples who had built their houses forty or more years ago are only looking in town due to age and infirmity. Since they have acreage, real estate agents are salivating to represent them.

The two "100-year" record snowfalls last winter and the surprise previously unknown sinkholes last spring convinced them of the unpleasant reality of aging. Then there is the fact that road conditions in neighborhoods outside of the city are the neighborhood's responsibility, and contractors' rising prices are another new consideration.

When you've lived out in the woods or up on the ridges, there is both stark beauty and lots of physical labor. It's hard to think of giving that up and moving into a city. However, that was only the first day of looking at offered real estate.

Jane, I'm not as busy or outgoing as you and Amy. Alan and Dora are very similar in that they're constantly on the go or off taking care of people or some situations. Those two are the caretakers of our small group. Claire calls them our mafia; once you're family, you don't leave.

Amy, our eleven degrees just dropped to nine degrees. We have lots of ravens in town, enjoying the cooler weather. They're the only birds you see this time of year other than a stray owl. They're noisy because the local mated pair is defending their territory from the packs of young male ravens. I always wondered where the more youthful females are. You always hear that the roving troublemaking flocks are males looking for spoils.

I had the joy of caring for a couple of lively mixed breeds yesterday and would have swiped them if I could. One is a small border collie mix, and the other is a Heinz 57. Since I was in the van's back seat, they felt the need to keep me company, and I loved it.

We had light rain off & on all day & last night but no idea how much because I had already brought my rain gauge inside.  :-\   Just talked to another friend my age & she did the same as I did, sat & looked out & enjoyed. Not a wasted day when it was pure pleasure!

Patricia, I sympathize with your friends having to give up their "freedom" but maybe they can find a way to enjoy going back & even camp during the summer, if they jointly buy a camper or even a cabin and all help fund. I watched when my father got older, after Mom died.... the neighbor ladies would bring dad food, especially sweets, but it would have been good for all of them if they kind of organized some meals each week & ate together. They sure didn't hesitate asking him to fix things for them, he was the one they all turned to even when their husbands were living! I remember one time one of the men made a comment about Dad doing their work for them & Mom whispered under her breath that she wished some of them would to HIS work sometimes!  That was when I started thinking about a type of commune for elders and have jobs to do in order to have someone help do what each can't do. Makes sense to me! Still does!

My sheets are in the washer so think I will fix that pot of potato/celery/onion soup I've wanted all day. Looks like plenty of time before I go to bed! Why do I have a linen closet full of sheets & towels & use the same all the time?  Hey, better than folding to put away, right? Moving along.

Amy, so far the crows or ravens have not arrived but neither have the migrating geese. We had some tiny birds, size of juncos but not them, brighter blacks & white, but think they moved on with the colder weather overnight. We might get snow tonight & back to the 70s early next week. Today it stayed near freezing & even felt like it according to the weather person, but mid to upper 60s & sun tomorrow. My mother used to say, "this is the kind of weather that kills older people".... because the blood doesn't change fast enough.

Jane, this is the first year my neighbors have cleaned up their leaves so I am not having theirs blow & catch on my front yard. All those leaves came from this crazy sweet gum and the ground today is every bit as covered as it was yesterday, all mine! The tree had 3x the leaves it should have had this year. Another good load to still fall.  >:(

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm ready for the haystack but I had to stop by to see what everyfriend was up to today!  Cooper and I took our walks and we didn't run into anyone on the way.  Three walks and everyone was either at work, at school or inside!

It was really foggy first thing this morning but by the time we took our second walk the fog had cleared and it was warm enough for a light jacket!  I think it got into the low 70s today by the late afternoon!  I was into inside work...laundry and dishwasher and handwashing some dishes after a bit of cooking.  I read several chapters of my book today and it's really good.

Tomorrow is an "I don't know what I'm doing" day!  There are things that need attention and I have to decide where to focus!  Frankie is off for the weekend and I really don't expect to see her or Cooper at all!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Morning all, we had white rain yesterday, but instead of the 3 to 8 inches forecasted, we received barely enough to coat the ice. It's three degrees presently and clear. Without a cloud cover, it will get drier and colder, so again no humidity, and no snow.

I hit the floor running this morning...into town to pick up moo juice and hen fruit then onto the lumber store . Kyle picked up lumber to make the box a little higher for Babe to get into bed, we also put another lower box so she could step on the then onto the other one then into bed! What we don't do for our furkids. Back home I hung the laundry out and the wind  dried it on jig time.We are going to have high winds and rain tonight so will make sure nothing will fly off.

Patricia, Kyle said that  this time 2 years ago we had 3 snow falls!! I know it is coming,  know we need to but oh my....don't mind if it takes its time.

Jane, I bet you were busier than a bed bug. Days that have nothing planned seem to soon fill up with items to do.

Phyliss, hope all is well there..tried a/f  fresh pineapple rings dipped in sugar and cinnamon but to me the pineapple was sour...should have bought a gold pineapple to use.

Actually, there's always something that crops up it's little head and souts for help.  Today it was some cleaning up.  Since Frankie tossed Cooper in the tub when she was here the other day, I decided that it was time to clean up after him.  So a bit of vacuuming, changing the cover on the couch, shaking out some things to get rid of the dirt he brings in.  It does smell a bit better in here now.  He's due for a haircut but that won't be until next wee some time.  She's not coming by this weekend because she doesn't feel just right and when that happens she tries to keep the hospital germs away from me.  I'm grateful for that but I do miss her visits.

It's a tad chilly out there today.  I haven't actually checked it out but when I was out filling the bird feeder, I felt it!

Right now I'm thinking, "What's for supper?"  I haven't even thought along those lines but I thinking right now, "Breakfast sounds good."  Maybe Ill have one of "Jim's egg thingys" for supper!  I haven't had one for breakfast for almost a week!

LLOYD, I can't comment on the leg thingys that you've been discussing.  I'm not even sure why you need them.  I don't think I've ever seen anyone use them.  HMMMMM?  Something new to think about.

AMY, I hope the "white rain" holds off for a bit partly because when you get it up there, it's not long before we get some.  I don't want it!

I think I'll go read a chapter before it's time for supper.  I try to eat my way through Mannix.  Gosh, he was a cutie!  But I sure don't know how he lived through all the beatings he took!

Have a good rest of the day!  Put your feet up and relax!

To the cooks here, - What can I do with some veal strips/slices. I'm sure they were meant for cutlets but I'm looking for something VERY simple.  I'm not even sure they are still good. Probably been in the freezer for a couple of years.  Probably vacuum sealed.

Lloyd, after my open heart surgery they used those type hose on my feet/legs, I guess to prevent blood clots. They felt good so I asked about getting some to bring home but they were not offered to take OR BUY, so Nancy is lucky to get to use yours!

I have the motorhome slide out and the awning, to drain the rain that gathers in those folds. Not sure if it is necessary but I've been doing it all these years so will keep up until I get rid on it. Got a posterboard to put a new sign in the back window, have not nailed down the price I'm going to ask but plan to have anyone interested to do their own research for price on the internet. None exactly like it but not all have 6 new tires & a new roof put on a couple years ago & every single thing in top working order! Hopefully the right person will drive by or I will have to run an ad. I won't let anyone take it without me going along and would rather have my kids be around to do that. One time we had a car for sale & I rode with the guy & had to slow him down, it had a 400 engine & he was flying low, the car was in OUR name & a ticket goes with the car! We have always priced our vehicles right & sold from the driveway, but I did trade in the Rialta (and got cheated).

Time to take my Sat night shower & wash hair for church in the morning. Don't know what made me remember it's time to turn back the clocks! I hate this job so want to make sure I get them right.... it is 7:42 pm here so I turn them back to 6:42 or forward to 8:42? HELP!

Rick, my whole family loves what we call "steak fingers".... cut strips of the steak (any kind) salt & pepper & roll it around in just a tad of Crisco in a hot skillet, it fries fast & my family just picks up a piece & eats with their fingers.

I have been meaning to check in here and I don't know where time goes! Still dealing with a lot of paperwork and trying to get ahead of income tax reports for this year. I just don't seem to have a lot of incentive the work on the computer any more than I have to!

All of us are getting older and it's somewhat of a mixed bag!  My doc changed my BP meds about two weeks ago and they sort of zap my energy level but my father died at 46 in 1935 when I was only a year old so I know I carry the gene. He didn't have the BP meds that I have access to.  This aging is definitely a mixed bag, though.  Good to see some familiar faces still here!  Hope to try to get back more often! Have a good rest of te weekend!

I'm going to be heading for the haystack a bit early tonight because of the turnback of the clocks!  But then, I'll be getting up early tomorrow, too!

Today turned out to be a very nice day after all.  The cold went away and the temp reached 74!  Not normal for November!

RAMMEL, I was going to say pretty much the same recipe that SHIRLEY gave you!  That's what I'd do with that meat

I finished my library book and I was looking over the second one and discovered that I've already read that one!  So tomorrow afternoon, I'll have to find something else to do!  And the library is closed on Monday but I have a Dr. appt that's catty cornered across the street from the library on Wed. so maybe we can make a quick stop there after the appt.

Now I'm going to check out some other stuff on here and  say "Hello, JOHANN!  Nice to see you!"

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good evening.  Just want to say HELLO and see how EVERYFRIEND is doing?

Tonight we have to FALL BACK and change the clocks AGAIN.  I keep hearing ever so often that we might be done with daylight savings time, and yet once again here we are changing again 😩‼️

We have had our first official snow fall.  Unfortunately we made the national news telling of the horrendous 100 plus car pile up do to the quick temperature drop and black ice forming to cause it. 😩

The time is passing quickly and we are getting close to departure date to CA.  I have to admit I am more than anxious to be out of here.....away from doctors and tests etc.‼️  Another issue has come to light from a blood test and 24 hour urine.  The doctor has requested a telehealth call to discuss.  UGH..... I just want to run away‼️

Pleasant dreams to all.

Callie, are you ok....saw on the news about a tornado your way?

Jane, check out the pickle recipes Patricia posted one(I want to try) and I posted the one I did make. Easy peasy and no canning!!

It's going to be in the 70s here again today!  Maybe I'll go out and rake a few leaves.  That's all I'm good for any more...a few at a time.  I think I'm going to let the yard guy do most of them.

AMY, I'll look at the recipes when I'm off here and that's....now!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning,

Amy, the devastating tornado was 250 miles southeast of me!

To give a bit of perspective: it's more than 500 miles from the farthest northwestern corner (OK/CO/New Mexico) to the southeastern corner (OK/TX/Arkansas) and the northwestern area had snow at the same time the southeastern area was experiencing the tornadoes.  :idiot2:
(Probably TMI but consider it the geography lesson for the day.  ;D )

The OKC area is mid-way between and we did have some "iffy" weather as the Arctic front moved across the state, but no twisters - thank goodness. However, our temperature dropped 33 degrees in about 15 minutes as the front came through about noon.  Brrrrr!!!

Time to get settled in to watch church service.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning from a frigid Interior at minus sixteen this morning. This is our tradeoff in the Arctic; you don't want a clear starry sky because it takes all the heat away. Conversely, you never see the stars, comets, or other celestial activities because it warms when it's cloudy, and that's good.

I have nothing pressing other than generalities today and no news to report.

Good morning Lloyd! Rick, that's what I would do, too, and it would be an easy pair of potatoes and a vegetable.

Johanne, hello, and so lovely to see your post! I went through that a couple of weeks ago when everyone seemed to want an extensive review and a fully detailed report. That was also when I, for some odd reason, decided to revamp my filing system. It was a very stressful couple of weeks, but I managed, and now it's behind me.

Callie, I also wondered about that tornado! I'm glad to hear you were out of its range! While I've never been in or close to a tornado when I lived in the south, we had several damaging one-hundred-mile-hour winds when I lived in Anchorage, and that scared me once as I was on the fifth floor of a building and nearly got sucked off the outside laundry room passage. I had to tightly grip a short railing and inch my way along while feeling as if I could fly off at any moment. I had bruising and scrapes on my hands from how tightly I held on.

Jenny, I'm sorry about the pileup; black ice is dangerous enough without adding in multiple cars. I know you're glad to put it behind you finally, and I hope you have nothing but blue skies in California. Our first official snowfall fizzled, as well as a second one that promised three to eight inches and instead gave us white rain.

Jane, your temperatures sound amazing. It often seems that you folks are in an entirely different country than us via weather, attitudes, and general.

Amy, your tempers sound like fall weather that we won't see again until April or May locally! We are to warm back up into the twenties tomorrow; this has been warm for us so far. Your apple crisp is on my mind; I only need one ingredient, which I plan to pick up next week.

Another day is slipping by..

Restful day here, did a whole lot of nuthin.

Rick, please keep your humidity there, I am enjoying our weather much better now that the humid weather is gone. We even sat out on the verandah to have our lunch, the weather was so nice.

Callie, thank you for the lesson..I would agree crazy weather! My son has told me about some tornados after he has got home. Not for me!!!

Patricia, saw your recipe for chicken cutlet. I was lucky enough to get a package of chicken breasts on sale, brought them home sliced them in half length wise , pounded and made into cutlets. I am not a fan of panko so used soda crackers ground up and then fried the lot. Put two in a pack ,vacuum sealed them for meals later. Just pick out of the freezer, throw in the AF and wait for it.

I have a question about kitchen knives. I'm upgrading my crowded knife drawer and have heard multiple times that all you need are three good-quality knives, a chef's knife, a paring knife, and a serrated-edged bread knife.

I purchased a good chef's knife, ordered a paring knife, and looked at many bread knives. The one with the best reviews outside of free knife, company pandering reviews seemed to impress the most out of people due to injuries from minor cuts to having eight stitches. I wasn't aware that showed not paying attention but quality.

Any ideas?

I also need to bundle all my old knives and find someone locally to use them.

My eyes gave me a bad day today.  It was like looking at everything in the fog.  I guess I did a little too much reading yesterday.  I did enjoy the reading thought.

This was pretty much a "do-nothing" day for me!  I did go to church but aside from that, all I did was I ate, read the paper, took a walk, shook the doggie dirt out of stuff, played a few games on the computer, cooked a bit, and goofed off!  Now I'm ready for the haystack.  Cooper will be arriving early in the morning and I really don't like how early it gets dark now!  The only good thing about the early dark is being able get into my PJs earlier!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's already been daylight for at least 45 minutes and that's good but I really didn't like the "dark early" last nght.  The temp is already 64º abd heading for a high of 69 for the day.  No snow in our forecast!

LLOYD, thanks for updating me on the leg thingys that you have to wear.  Sounds like they might do a good job.  Keep working at getting them on!

AMY and "whoever it was", about the knives.  I don't know all the names and I haven't done any research but a couple years ago, I asked my son if he had a knife sharpener because my all time favorite knife needed something.  The next day, there was a new knife on my kitchen counter and if anyone tried to take it from me, I might be tempted to use it to cut off their fingers.  It's name is ZYLISS and it says it's "Japanese Steel".    The one that needed sharpening did get sharpened and I've had that one since I got married back in 1955.  It's name is "Stainless by Geneva Forge, U.S.A."  And I would not give that one up either.  I also have a paring knife from that company.  I don't know if they're still in business but I'm going to check it out!

And now, Cooper is begging for his morning walk and I'm not dressed yet so I better "put and egg in my boot and beat it".  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning, minus three and cloudy this morning at 5.41 am. Snow is forecast again on Tuesday, but supposedly light accumulation. Does that mean we're going to be dumped on? Thanks, Jane and Amy, for your answers per knives. Jane, your Stainless by Geneva Forge, U.S.A, isn't to be found, so hold tight to that knife, although they sell their vintage Geneva Forge on Etsy and eBay. Zyliss has a nice website I looked at and bookmarked.

Good Monday morning, EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Seems I have heard more about knives recently from several people.  A lot of the complaints have been the lack of finding a person to do a good sharpening.  I have two sets of knives.....ne is my parents Cutco set they bought back in the early '50's.  Our son and dil gave us a very nice set of Henkel knives that we have had for 20 years.  Mostly we use a serrated chefs knife everyday.  It is a inexpensive knife we bought at a big box store along with another one just like it but longer.  Both are our favorites.  Cutco has a life time warranty and will sharpen them for free.  My grandma had the same set that I now have and I gave them to mt oldest son.  He went in with the intent of getting them sharpened and they talked him into upgrading with a price to pay for a brand new set.  Being the sentimentalist that I am, it made me sad that he did this.  Long story short.....knives are a BIG deal and most of us could do well with buying individual knives and not a whole set, just as JANE stated.

I watch Cooking with Brenda from Andalusia AL occasionally and she has her OLD knife she uses all the time.  Occasionally she whips out her knife sharpener and sharpens her old knife right on the spot BUT never wipes the knife off before going on the cut whatever.....it makes me shudder knowing there are bits of that steel being transferred to the food🤪

CALLIE, sure glad to read your offerings about OK and distances and that the tornado was not in your area🙏🙏

AMY, I have been wondering if your son is having issues with being able to get diesel for his truck?  We keep hearing there are shortages?  Hope Kyles shots are not too painful for him and the steroid does a great job‼️

PATRICIA, I love the chicken cutlet recipes, but right now with our keto we can not use breading.  One day soon, I will do your receipt for sure.

We had our Sunday dinner at Dr. Dave's last night.  Our only granddaughter had her 13th birthday on the 3rd and with all of her school and dancing we celebrated her yesterday.  Bob and I both had a tiny sliver of her ice cream cake....the very first sweet that we have consumed in nearly 2 1/2 nmnths.  It sure tasted yummy and did not spike my blood sugar one bit🥰

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Jenny

Just to throw a comment into the mix about knives.  I believe it was Consumer Reports that recommended these, bought from Amazon about 8 years ago and still available there. The brand is VICTORINOX.  I have several smaller ones - paring, serrated, "tomato knife" (forked tip to pick up sliced pieces). Big selection at Amazon.  I like them. They hold their sharpness well. I sharpen when needed with one of those gadgets you pull the knife through.

Just checked. The Tomato knife is now -Victorinox Swiss Classic Cheese and Sausage Paring Knife, 4.3 inches, Black

Thanks Rick! I wondered why the brand was familiar and found they were the manufacturers of Swiss army knives, of which I have two plus a mini one on my keychain.

I did like their bread knife and ordered it. They have an extensive repertoire, including a few skinning knives, which surprised me, but  shouldn't have.

My chef's knife came with a pull-through sharpener, and I have a stone and another sharpening device. My new chef's knife is a Grand Messner brand, and my paring knife came in a duo set and is by Little Cook, a German brand.

The one that everybody proudly showed their cuts and stitches for was a German brand,  Hammer Iron Alley, 8-Inch Bread Knife, Serrated Bread Knife, Bread Cutter & Bread Slicers For Homemade Bread, Cake, and Bagels, Ultra-Sharp German Stainless Steel-ABS Handle

I have a drawer full of aging knives and need to find a cork or other material I can have measured and cut for that drawer. The older ones, with no sentimental value, need a new home, but I don't know where yet. Too many folks here shouldn't have access, including our resident kleptomaniac.

:granny2: I'm so happy this evening! Maintenance came, fixed the kitchen faucet that was leaking around the base, and replaced the sprayer. They also fixed two wonky doors on the kitchen island, and wonderfully, they agreed that my fridge was played out, essentially a big box. So, they brought me a BRAND NEW FRIDGE!!

They got an emergency call but swore they'd return tomorrow to fix the wonky cupboard with the warped drawer guides and bring me a new faucet for the bathroom that has also been leaking from the base.

They worked quickly and efficiently and didn't argue about something not needing repair. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the thrice-delayed structural inspection by the bigwigs in early December, right... right?

Hello Everyfriend!

PATRICIA, it sounds like you had a good day and it's not over yet!

Cathy came over this morning and raked the area inside the fence and I swept and raked in the back.  We ended up with 5 bags to go to the recycling on Saturday and a can full of trash for pickup on Friday.  That leaves whatever comes off the rest of the trees and what's outside the fence and whatever blows in with the wind for the guy who has to be paid.  I think it will cut his pay in half!

Then I cooked a package of frozen chicken breasts that came from Wengers the other day and made a dish of scalloped potatoes.  But all I had was sweet potatoes so I scalloped them for the first time in my life and it won't be the last time!  Cooked a small squash and that was supper and will be several more suppers to come.  Today was a good day around here, too!

I think I wore myself out.  I didn't see a whole TV show all evening.  I nodded off more than once!  And I really don't like it getting dark so early!  It's nice to have it light in the morning when Cooper comes but....

Tomorrow I have to call about the second shingles shot.  I had the first one a while back and now it's time for the second one!

My eyes just won't stay open so I'm heading for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

well I hope I can reamber all I want to talk about.firts Off  JaneS I will try to explane better about the leg things.they are two types I know about off hand. the ones that VA gave me, has a mettile rack that you strech the stocken over, and you then step your foot on it push down and it puts the stocken or hose over the toes to heal and starts around the heeal, then you pull it on up on the calf of your leg. the other has zippers in them. I have not tryed them on yet.I just recived them today.I can tell you more about them tomorow. they are both styiled fit firmely over your legs and help the swelling and prevent blood clotts., and elimanate blod clots. now about the cultery set. ourse Is chichgo cultery brand, staniles steel. they coome in a wood block sets on the counter at about a 45 degree angle. It came with 5 knives and a stel to sharpen them with, and that is a good way to do it, anyone can do that easey . the block also has other places for knives and Nancy has filled them all. I will try to go look tomorow and describe better what nives shape and size is tomorow. I also have little carbide nife sharpner that I carrie in my pocket. it also dose a good job of sharpening, either one you may decide to use. just alternate sides, either one will sharpen a nife sharp enough to shave with. if you use them regular never have to go to a grind wheel and thake a chance of burnning the blade. you can get the little carbide sharpenre at any good hardwar and I think at wallmart..see you all later good night and sweet dreams.

Good morning..

Yesterday went well, tiring but a good day. Met up with  a friend to give her a bag of quilt batting pieces which she will sit and tear apart to  use as stuffing in cat toys for the humane society.

Stopped to see about getting the van undercoated and then of to the Dr. Kyle got his shots and I hope they last long. Usually about 3 months and that is it for him.

Jenny, I apologize, you did ask that about the fuel and I forgot to answer you. David has not said anything about it but next time I talk with his I will ask.

Patricia, that must have been a shock to you!! Nice to have a work crew that gets right to the problems at hand.

Jane, most of the leaves are down now. I noticed on our trip yesterday that the hemlock (larch) gave a shiver and dropped their needles too.

Work that didn't get done  yesterday is  looking at me and I see I have a light bulb to replace .

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a little colder out there today than it was yesterday.  It was so warm yesterday that Cathy and I were both working in short sleeves and sweating in the process.

Cooper has arrived and had his breakfast and I've had mine.  Now I have to get dressed and take him for his walk...or, I should say, he'll take me for a walk.  We go where he chooses in the morning and sometimes he chooses to stay out and do all three walks at one time!

LLOYD, thanks for the explanation !  I understand a little better what it is that you're going through.  You drew a pretty good picture in my mind!

SHIRLEY, it's this darn change of time that's upsetting our bodies!  It usually takes me about 3 weeks to get used to it.  I wonder if it bothered the people who instituted it way back there?

AMY, you sure don't waste any fabric, do you!  I bet the cats? like the toys your friend makes from the scraps.  Good luck to KYLE.  I hope his treatment last a long time and he feels better after having it!

WELL, today is Election Day!  I voted by mail 2 weeks ago and I've been getting texts and phone calls 2 to 5 times a day ever since.  They should be able to take you off the list after they get your ballot!  I wonder what all the commercials on TV will be from now on!

I'm off to get dressed and take Cooper out!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Medicare Plans - multiple times each hour on all the main channels - day after day. They must assume all Seniors are as absent minded as they are..  Just think about all that advertising money that could have been used to provide benefits.

Here to say good night again. Wasn't really cold out today but wind had a bite so this is where we folks in Kansas wear the "wind breakers".... nylon cuts the wind without the weight of a coat, start out with a cotton flannel "hoodie" under & layer so you can take off the layers as it warms up. It was cloudy all day so got dark super early. Sounds like we will get our HARD freeze later in the week so maybe the allergies will fade away.

Patricia, haven't watched the videos yet, guess I'll have to give up the hope of moseying around Alaska.  :'(    Tomorrow is my appointment to see if oxygen will help my breathing. I don't expect it will. The lady that called to remind about the appointment said it was several tests they do but no running. I laughed at that & asked what the bottom line, "do I have to take off my clothes". She giggled with me & said, "no". I do not expect it to help or that they will admit to it being partly to blame by Covid, but it was a hope to make it easier to breathe. Of course you understand I'm not saying that I won't mosey around Alaska for sure, just for right now.  ;)

Amy, I'm still looking for someone to donate a couple bags of batting to, bought at an estate sale before my mother-in-law died & that happened before I got it to her. Been on a shelf in the basement all these years since & I'm trying to get stuff to people or places that will actually use it. When I leave this house the kids will wonder what I ever bought most of it for. Cas swore my eyes glowed when I saw a SALE sign.  ;D

Rick, I was told by a TV/radio man one time that they "had to donate a certain amount of air time for charities or public service notices, so I thought those commercials were part of that deal, wouldn't swear to it but........... I almost quit watching anything but GRIT TV & the old westerns to avoid news & all the hate & depressing 2022 life.

Good night, Jane, I'll turn out the lights!

Better get ready for bed, busy day tomorrow & no time for a nap so my tongue will be hanging out by tomorrow evening.  Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.  Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper and I are up and attem.  He's had his breakfast and right now he's cleaning off my plate.  When I'm finished here, we'll take our first walk of the day.  I'm sure it's cold out there.  I haven't checked the temp but it just feels cold!

SHIRLEY, you and I can wander around Alaska together.  It's the only state in the country that I haven't been able to get to and I dream about it constantly.  I'm pretty sure I'll never make it but on can dream!

Today is two dr. appts and a quick stop in town.  Also a stop at the pet store!  Then just "goofing off" around here!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning...

Temp is 25° and the lawn is white with frost. We aare to get a high of 50° today and mostly sunny.

Going to visit my firend and have tea with her this morning then home to what ever needs done first.

Jane, we get donations to buy the fabric and batting for quilts. Sometimes we can't use fabric that has been given as we only use cotton, not poly cotton.Any fabric we can't use is passed on to other groups that make quilts for shelters etc. Ours has to be washed of chemicals before it is put into a quilt. Can't have those dealing with cancer treatments dealing with allergies from the chemiclas in the fabric. So far Kyles shoulders feel good!! Jusy wish one shot would last a life time for him.

Shirley, maybe someone at church would love your pieces of batting.can go into placemats, tablerunners can go into many things.

Patricia, thank you for the videos. We have only been into Skagway but dropped our trailer at Carcross before heading there. Thoroughly enjoyed what little time we had there and would go back in a heartbeat.

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Until I came in here and read LLOYD'S post about NANCY, I thought I had a bad night.  I sure hope NANCY is feeling better today!

I had my second shingles shot yesterday and my are is very sore.  I had a bad evening until I realized I must be having a reaction and I just decided to go to bed early!  I feel somewhat better today but my arm is still sore.  That's something I can live with.  I have sore places in different places at different times and I just get on with it!

I was up about an hour earlier than usual today.  I think I'm still running on regular time.  It usually takes me about 2 to 3 weeks for my system to change over!

I haven't decided what's on the agenda for today besided emptying all the trash cans and putting the trash out tonight for pickup tomorrow!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Yesterday I helped my friend measure up quilts for a sale on Sat along with having a cup of tea and chatting with her. On the way home I stopped and picked up another half bushel of Galas. I have no one to blame to the extra work but me.

Today we both get blood drawn and Kyle has xrays to do also.. After that it is anyone guess what will happen.

Jane, happy to read you feel better.

Lloyd, good that Nancy go her nose bleed stopped.

Best get ready for the vampire..

Had a busy day yesterday, the oxygen test. THAT is scary! Have a closepin tight on the nose & I have a terrible time breathing just through the mouth so gasping for air & heart racing off the charts. The lady testing laughed & said she never had anyone pass out yet! Pretty extensive testing over & over 'cause I kept cutting the test off to get a little air.  :o
Bottom line is they will be delivering oxygen, the concentrator from what I understand, but she said something about needing to be charged, etc., so not sure what comes with it. One of those times I GOTTA clean out a corner & since every corner is full, time to get rid of stuff. I really kinda hoped not to need this with allergy season still going strong, guess I can stuff a Kleenex around the nose piece?

Lloyd, did they give Nancy any reason for the bloody nose? I walked into the ER room where my uncle was one time & heard the nurse fussing at him saying, "You know, Mr.Smith, (really was our last name), you wouldn't be needing your nose packed if you took your iron like you should".  We have an anemia that runs in the family & one of the first bad signs is the instant bleeding if we get cut or hurt... or the nose.

Amy, I'm not seeing the big golden delicious apples that are my favs for frying or pies. I like the red delicious for eating but guess weather hasn't been right for apples this year. Usually KS & MO have plenty of home grown. If we had any orchards left I do think I would crawl the rows to get some picked ripe. Last time was when the kids were young & at least 50 years ago. Wahhhhhhhh. I loved hearing Gloria tell about helping her son during the season. After Mom died I would go visit Dad & often he'd have a cookie sheet filled with apples standing on end to bake in the oven, just took the core out & filled it back with brown sugar & would eat them like candy. Think his eating habits were why he lived to 95. He raised his own sweet potatoes & would dig up fairly small, wash & bake in the oven & peel the skin back like a banana & eat. They also got a tad of brown sugar on the inside as he ate. Good luck with the Dr.appointments today!

Jane, my daughter had a worse reaction with the 2nd shot, too. I've been a little worried because she takes every shot offered, but just had all the blood work done for the year & her numbers better than ever. Her Crohn's is under control with hardly any meds, which is a shock to her doctors since she has a part of the small & large intestine plus the valve between them missing.

Sandy, I guess we are still on the opposite side of the fence when it comes to politics. I was hoping for the economy to improve.  ;)

Better get moving, when the Doc says "months" before the valves blow, gotta do that extra cleaning. Erma Bombeck was always going to have her nervous breakdown when she got her closets cleaned.... I'd have to live to 120 at least to accomplish that.  :crazy2:

I don't have Cooper tomorrow but I might have Frankie while he's at the "hair cutterie".  She said she didn't think she'd go home and then come back out here to pick him up.  So that would be something different...Frankie without the "Cooper-snoop".

Here I sit with the nose thingy carrying oxygen to my head & just remembered those ones that go into the nose hang over the ears to stay in place. Duh..For somebody that hates changes my world has totally changed the last couple years! Turns out I'm to keep oxygen on 24/7 so came with house cord I can travel from one end to the other, the portable one to keep charged for going out (it has a 4 hour limit but can take the electric or car battery charger to extend time).... and one on wheels for when power out. Our power does go out frequently so nice to know a back up. This all paid for thru my BlueCross/Blue Shield & Medicare so I do pay, nothing out of pocket except what each takes out of my checking monthly. Worth every penny to not worry.

Rick, I forgot about the mask helping allergy problems! That's the masks I bought 'cause you told us were the best. We're supposed to get several nights well below freezing so hope the pollen shuts down for this year.  Need to change furnace filters now to get rid of what's gathered there. Did not have the furnace man out yet & Andy said it wouldn't hurt to just turn it on when needed. Time to cover the A/C & be ready for winter. Always plenty to do around a house!

Think I will start getting ready for bed, may be tangled in cords trying to set me up for the night. :idiot2:  This set up is about the size of one of the larger kitchen trash cans, fits behind the entrance of the living room whatever you call those half walls. My brother had to have large tanks delivered routinely but this is a concentrator & makes it's own oxygen just like the little one that will fit inside my purse/tote, lots of improvements since my brother had to use 10-15 years ago. Turned out I chose the right spot for the main piece of equipment, about the center of the house. Will have to disconnect ME to go downstairs, I think.

Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Well, Rick, it's what you notice anyone on oxygen wears with the little hoses that go into each nostril & when I first put on I didn't remember to hang over the ears so not a good fit. I admit to struggling with a runny nose because of allergies so not a pretty picture. I have not dashed thru the house to see if breathing is improving, but guess it will take time.  The delivery guy promises I will wake up feeling much-much better in the morn, be interesting to see if I wake up at the usual 3:00-3:30am time. Bad habits when you live alone~~

I did see one of the kittens tonight but didn't have any food out so it went on. I took some food out & looked a little later & the opposum was chowing down. They are SO ugly but they can't help that. Time for sleep.

Good morning..

Happy Veterans Day and Remembrance day. Growing up, the night before when I was able to ,I shone my Dads medals, next day would be the parade in town. After the parade some of the men would come back to the house for refreshments and food. Never heard a word about the war from any of them and never did from my Dad.

Should bake bread today a chase dust bunnies.

Shirley, the oxygen should make life a lot nicer for breathing. Once you get used to it you will never know it is on.Thankfully I have no allergies but Kyle does and breathing can be a problem  ,he uses puffers for it and so far it works. Our appointments went well, if all goes well with my blood work my appointments  will be yearly not every 6 months.

Patricia, are you snowed under?

Phyllis everything ok your way?

Best get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept in a bit this morning.  I guess that's because I stayed up a bit later.  I decided to read a chapter of my book before I went to bed and it turned into 3 chapters.  His books all have "now what" when you finish a chapter!

I don't know what's up today but we're supposed to get a rainy one from the dregs of the hurricane that hit the south coast.  My phone says 51º and raining out there.  I haven't even looked out the window yet this morning.  I don't have Cooper today so I won't have to be out walking in the rain.  It'll be a nice day to read!  Maybe I'll take advantage of that.

SHIRLEY, good luck with all that air stuff.  I think I'd be falling over it or twisted up in it most of the time.  I sure hope it helps you to feel better.

Right now, I need get some breakfast.  I'm thinking English muffin sounds good with butter and jam on it!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  I just looked out the window and it's raining...not hard storm rain...just coming down!

JaneS,
Have you ever tried "Muffin Burgers". It's been years but I remember they were yum yum good.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for N0vember 1, 2022
Post by: Shirley on November 11, 2022, 09:45:08 AM
and it's what they DON'T tell you...........  Got thru the night, even an extra hour of sleep BUT, I discovered when fixing my breakfast I make all right turns in the kitchen and pretty soon the cord that goes to the nose (sing/song that) is wound up like a spring. It really was! So had to twirl around opposite direction to unwind me. Funny part is the cat is not the least bothered by all these cords & changes. The good news for anyone that may have to use oxygen in their future, it is NOT as invasive as I expected. The cord that tethers me to the concentrator is not a problem to drag around, just gotta remember to make as many right turns as left so you don't screw it up!

And that's my news for the day! Oh, it is cold out but no frost, snow or ice. There is a sycamore leaf blowing in circles right outside this sliding door... it is the size of the largest dinner plate in the house, maybe a platter. Not from my young tree!

Lloyd, my Smith line came from England and when I was in high school I checked them out because I sat next to a Smith boy that everyone thought we were kin. Dad knew of all that belonged to those Smiths. My 3rd grade teacher told me I probably had some Indian blood in me because my hair was "blue-black" and when I started putting the Clairol dye over the gray in my 20s, I had to buy the "velvet black" to brush in to match the black. 23andME says I have 0 Native American so I was totally disappointed. I thought that was why I loved the woods and wildlife and talked to the animals! I would rather be in the woods watching the wildlife than in ANY man made city or tourist attraction.

I still get "goose bumps" on my arms every Veterans Day, those years of worrying about my brothers, one in US Air Corp & other in US Navy on ships where ever the action was, seems like yesterday when it was called Armistice Day. The sight of the Statue of Liberty when our troop ship came into the harbor March 1957 after nearly 3 years being "overseas" had buckets of tears flowing down my face. I tear up at parades and will be waving the flag in my coffin... oops, we are doing cremation....  mixed emotions. A day for remembering.

RICK, I never did hear of muffin Burgers so I went and looked them up.  Are they made in muffin tins like my "Jim's Egg Thingys"?  I just might have to try them.

SHIRLEY, I hope you keep "unwound".  It sounds like that might be your biggest problem!

My celebration of Veterans Day is right outside my office in his WWI uniform!  My dad was a veteran of WWI and they sure don't say much about those veterans these day!  They must think there's no one around who remembers them any more.  WELL, I DO!  AND MY WHOLE FAMILY DOES!

I've also been missing GLORIA.  Are you there?

Good morning plus 8 and clear this morning. I slept in; it was 6:45, and I hadn't had my coffee yet. Amy, no snow now or expected. Since 2020 and 2021 were 100-year snows, according to those in the know, this year has been a surprise. First, we had light snow that turned into sheets of ice, then the next two, forecast to be 4 inches, and then 3 to 8 inches turned out to be white rain. Without clouds to hold in the heat, it will get colder.

Shirley, you'll have to do as my friend Amelia does, to keep right or, in your case, left. She's getting a portable canister in some harness, but I don't have the details or the understanding.

Jane, I had 17 uncles, 18 including my father in WWII and Korea, and both husbands and an uncle were in Vietnam, and not one of them returned undamaged. My first husband disappeared in the Kentucky hills soon after our divorce, and two of my uncles, one army and one navy, were in prisoner-of-war camps. None of them discussed the war or their part in it. They only wanted their lives back.

Gloria's daughter mentioned she would be moving from her apartment, no longer living alone, and wouldn't be back on the computer.

It's been a long time since I've had one. We used the large Thomas' English Muffins. I will try to remember the "build'.      Split muffin and toast. On one side, a pat of butter, a hefty hamburger, S&P, some Worcestershire Sauce, thin slice of onion, slice of Tomato, Lettuce, Top of Muffin.  Lean forward and eat it. If you like Mayo you can toss that in too, or a couple of Bread and Butter Pickles.

I'd just love to have one right now. --- Mouth watering :smitten:

Well, I rooted through the freezer and the fridge today and I have everythin for RICK'S muffins except the hamburger.  However, I did find all the stuff to make sausage and egg muffins in the morning so that's on the menu for tomorrow.  And hamburger is on my list for  this week's shopping trip!

I finished another Jack Higgins book today and I have one more to go before I've worked my way through all the large-print ones that our library has.  I think my next idea is to check the books on tape and see if they have any of his on tape.  That way, I can have the books and get some stuff done, too.

Tomorrow we have to make a trip to the recycle center.  I'm overloaded with stuff including leaves and it will be good to get rid of it!

PATRICIA, I thought it was cold here but it was nothing compared to where you are.  I think I'm glad that life didn't dump me in Alaska.  I really mind the cold these days!

I'm off to the haystack and I can sleep in tomorrow.  Cooper's coming but Frankie isn't scheduled until 10 do he'll be a bit later!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

We are off to visit with son this morning. Will take along some of the loaves of raisin bread and white bread for them to wear....er I mean enjoy.

They say rain for today ,nicer than snow to deal with.

Rick, your muffin burgers made my mouth water!! Will try them,  one could freeze the pattie then make the burger up later.

Patricia, please keep deep minuses there. At the moment this past week has been nice...into the 60's and some rain . I know we will soon get snow up past our asters but until then we are enjoying this!

Enjoy your day and stay safe...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "Good Morning, AMY" because you're here already.  I agree, RICK'S burgers sound mouth-watering.  I'm going to pick up frozen burgers at Davy's the next time we go there.  Then I can keep muffins around an have them whenever the feeling strikes.

I have to go get dressed and start carting the recycling outside.  It frustrates Cathy when I do that but I think I should continue doing the things that I feel comfortable doing.  I just take smaller loads these days.  She doesn't understand that yet...but she will some day!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Yesterday, it rained all day here.  It was the fallout from the storm that hit Florida!

We had a great visit ,weather was perfect and traffic light!

Lloyd, hope they find the cause of Nancy's nose bleeds. Dry air is one of the culprits.

Jane, we do have to keep moving ,not take on or out as much as one would normally do but still take it out. Now we have to take two or three trips where one would have done in the past.

Lloyd, I feel sorry for Nancy. Winter dries out everything, especially noses, making it easier to keep happening once it happens.

I run a humidifier, and it helps.

Jane and Amy, I live in the arctic; it's not as bad as it once was, dipping into fifty to seventy below in December through January for two-week stretches. Now we may get a day here or there with possibly thirty below, but it's becoming rare and doesn't last. And it's a dry cold and not a wet one that sinks into your bones.

I've said this before, but it bears re-telling. Twenty below in a dry climate is warmer than forty above, with steady rain in a wet climate.

Still, no snow, and it's sunny and clear, so with no clouds to hold in the heat, it will get colder. It's a catch-22. More clouds, more humidity, and more snow are fine for those into their winter sports and not so fine for those trying to maneuver through it or move the snow out of the way.

I agree about the heavy lifting; I do a chore a day rather than multiple in a single day or less.

It's time to hit the haystack again!  It's been a good day.  We took the stuff to the recycling and then right back home.  Cooper and I have had 3 nice walks and it was so nice out earlier in the day that he spent a good hour out in the yard.

I made some chicken and egg salad for tomorrow's meals and I made two eggs this morning for on the English muffins so there's one left for tomorrow.  I can't wait to get the hamburgers and try RICK'S recipe.  My mouth waters every time I think of it!

PATRICIA, I loved the Alaska films!  I almost felt like I was in the car on that drive!  The view's were breathtaking!

Did a little cleaning and a little putting away and that's about it for today.  Now I'm going to bed!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I have to to get my shower and get ready to be picked up and dropped off at church this morning!  It's supposed to be a cloudy day but the rain is finally over.  We sure did get a lot of it!  It brought down the last of the hovering leaves and left puddles everywhere!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning, I'm up; Farrah's fed and watered and made over, so now she's taking a morning nap. I'm on my second cup of coffee and have my morning chores out of the way, although laundry could be started. We have thirteen, sunny, clear, and cold again in the forecast. The snows of the past two years were an aberration, with this more a normal situation.

Jane, here are some Alaskan driving videos, most not as scenic These are all from S.E. Alaska, warmer than the Interior in the winter and colder and wet in the summer. They're part of the same rain country climate as Washington and Oregon.

Lloyd, I just thought of something that might also be part of reason for Nancy's nose bleeds.... our water at this house and the one outside of town that we built had HARD water so we had to use distilled water we bought at the store in the humidifiers. I buy extra filters for this whole house humidifier to replace every fall, the one my son replaced this week had lime flakes all through the mesh part. When we ran our city water in the portable humidifier it would leave a white film over everything & that could be aggravating Nancy's nose. This is just the start of winter so hope she can find the problem soon!

I have not been watching all the drives but thank everyone for posting the links, maybe one of these days I'll find some extra time during my days. Still trying to navigate all this little hose & quit stepping on it!  I need to come up with something to strap around my waist with a spring type rod that holds that cord a foot & half away from my body to keep it out from under my feet. I do like the concentrator instead of those big tanks like my brother had delivered. It's MY FAULT that I'm always racing thru the house so do have to change my ways. (That'll be the day).

And that is the secret to happiness.... whistle while you work! Yes! Yes!  :cheer:  :walkwhistle:  Hey, Rick, have your robins gone south? I never did see the big flocks go thru like other years. My last 2 or 3 finally left, maybe they followed some that came thru that I didn't see.

Patricia, we've got to get you something else to do.... I think you are  missing the out door walks. We can blame on Covid because it really messed up our "social" life... even if we didn't socialize much, it was the contact with other (the  people we acknowledge as we pass daily).

I have been noticing how much strength I've lost the last couple years because I don't push myself (getting downright lazy). You've been such a "go-getter" all the years we've known each other & Covid seems to have clipped your wings. Do you have bus routes back to normal, I hear people talk about hopping one & transferring to another to tour the city, take a snack along & maybe a friend to visit with. Shirley, --- That day the robin, mocking bird, and woodpecker stopped by, landing very close, is the last I saw of them. I think they stopped by to say goodbye for the winter, and headed south. I hope they come back in the Spring.

We have been here in San Francisco a week tomorrow and I am just getting in to say HELLO.  The time has passed quickly, but we sure have been enjoying ourselves. So good to be away from the high altitude and my need for oxygen.  I'm lovin it.

OUR DIL left last Friday on her trip to India, and our son left this morning to join her.

SHIRLEY, I know exactly what you are dealing with regarding the oxygen.  I get myself all tangled up in the air line all the time.  I do hope this oxygen helps you feel better.  That breathing test is a doozie....been there done that‼️

It is so great to not need the oxygen out at sea level.  I feel so much better overall and so happy to be free from that cord.

I hope you all are doing well.

Jenny

First of all, AMY ALERT!  I haven't kept up with days of the week so anxious for a word from Amy, last post was something about a visit to her doctor & has been nagging me 'cause I couldn't remember what or why. Thanks for keeping track, Bubble!

Lloyd, only other suggestion (maybe 2) is when we lived in England there were 2 retired nurses that opened a little tiny store at the foot of the hill where we lived, had to walk past every day when I went to the store so would stop & visit with them. They kind of adopted me since I was 19-21 while living there. I had the nose bleeds at the time & they insisted that "plain old Vaseline spread across the bridge of the nose to between the eyes" helped most for that dry nose problem. Trust me, it works better than ANY cream. The other thing is to be sure she is tested for being even a tiny bit low on iron & B-12, NOT the routine blood test!

Jenny, much as I love your mountains I think I'd find a lower altitude to live in full time & just VISIT the mountains. How long will you be staying there, should give you an idea of how well you keep on keeping on without the oxygen. That shutting off the nose completely & then the breath nearly made me pass out but she promised "nobody ever did passed out during the test".

Got to eat & make that grocery run before anything else happens. I keep running out of oxygen before getting to that one store & afraid they will run out of a couple things I need for turkey day .... never know what they will be out of on that day before! And that, Dear Hearts, is IT for me for now, but I'll be checking back every hour or so to hear about Amy!  Love y'all............

Good morning from the Interior, minus two and sunny. No new snow here and none is predicted until the 27th or 29th of the month. This means it will drop further into the minuses and become drier. My skin is dehydrated now, and Farrah and I have started inadvertently shocking each other. My humidifier and a heavy creme go on from when I awaken until I go to bed.

Shirley, going back to an earlier post, #147, while Covid has "clipped my wings" to some extent, it is my balance that's become an issue. I have very low blood pressure, 90/60, which can drop suddenly if I don't eat correctly and pay attention. "You've just experienced syncope, another name for fainting. Usually the cause for syncope is low blood pressure. Your brain makes a drastic move when your blood pressure isn't high enough to move blood efficiently to the brain, your brain senses the warning and takes quick action. The upside of fainting is your brain quickly gets what it wants."

These "spells" usually are brief, within minutes but are the reason; for example, I fell and wrenched my hip and sprained my left foot in February 2021 and have had minor falls since. It's also the reason I carry a trekking pole outside. Looking back, I can recall other times when I felt faint or fell and blamed it on not paying attention or getting up too suddenly. These spells are brief, and many people don't realize they have fainted. I certainly didn't.

We have a daily check-in method of calls and/or texts, so no one is left out or goes unheard.

A couple of friends brought me seven large tomatoes as they had a late-season bumper crop. These were the big ones but being local wasn't tasteless but delicious. What surprised me was that one tomato with only a couple of sprits of Herb -Garlic marinade/dressing made me feel full.

As tomatoes don't usually do that, I tried another today and had the same reaction. I put my dressings in spray bottles because I prefer light over heavy, but what a way to break up my day! I only have five left, and I might have to hoard them.   ::)

Home-grown is always better than shipped because you know the growth conditions and the times from farm to table, but these were something else, coming from their greenhouse. I also learned not to refrigerate tomatoes as they go bad faster, but I miss that cold taste.

Chill it just before using it.
I believe most commercial grade tomatoes are shipped green, and gassed just prior to selling to make them red.  :o

Thanks, Rick; I didn't know about the gassing. This area is farmland up and down rivers with rich black glacial soil. While most have gardens or "rent" plots here and there, either by the hospital or community grounds, there are greenhouses or basic gardens in most yards or apartment complexes. This building has a spring lottery for its available spaces.

Walmart, Safeway, and Kroger's Fred Meyers also feature local vegetables, produce, and fruit. However, they price them exorbitantly right next to the grocery's more reasonably priced items, which isn't saying much.

FDR relocated many failed farmers from the nineteen thirties dustbowl to the state, and they've done well. We also have two types of Russian immigrants, the regular types and the religious "Old Believers," similar to the Amish. The Mennonites are also here farming around Big Delta and Delta Junction.

We have two summertime farmers' markets and one year around farmer's market building that also sells local crafts. The surrounding farms offer deals to folks wanting to pick their own, work for a portion of that farm's crops, or purchase different monthly food subsidies. I paid two hundred fifty dollars for six home deliveries of various fruits and vegetables this past summer.

Here is some information on some local offers, from farming to blacksmithing;

Patricia, I'm familiar about the low blood pressure because my mother had that problem. One time a "new" (fill in) doctor put her on BP med & it sent her to the hospital nearly dead. Now & then doctors tend to ignore anything an older person says & lumps us all in the same boat.  :o  Oh, yum, I've looked for home grown tomatoes all summer, really searched for signs in the yards or at the Farmer's Market, but all have been those grown in green houses, not in dirt & have no flavor. Didn't know that about not putting them in the frig.... I have several of the Romas shriveling up in mine right now. Our fresh produce has been so bad it's like what we would have thrown away other years. I've been on a celery jag so buy a new bunch any time I find them not all brown & icky. Take care, no more falls.

Rick, do they really "gassed just prior to selling to make them red"???  I'll never look at a tomato the same.  :'(  My father grew plate size tomatoes every year, Burpee Big Boys or Better Boys. He suckered them, no excess green, & fed all the neighbors all summer.

Lloyd, I also saw a couple new westerns today, or listened mostly. I love the scenery but these had old time stars that I like so I would stop & watch, on the GRIT channel.

Callie, those robins used to visit our pyracantha bush & when a whole flock, would clean that big bush off completely in a few hours. It finally snapped off during a big wind & they don't go after the holly bush berries, they are turning red a 2nd time this year.

Jane, I'm here to wish you a good night as well.... and it was a good day here, too. I found that camera, walked past it a hundred times every day, "looked but didn't see".

Amy, hope all is well in your world.  Sweet dreams & God Bless!

They must have some different type of soil or perhaps hydroponics in those commercial greenhouses. Here it's a very fertile black soil from the glaciers. You don't want to use commercial soil here as it's filled with gnats, and if you use it in your home, you will have a time getting rid of them.

You use your backyard dirt or buy it from egg farms or the local farming, field, and garden companies, not national chains such as Lowes or Home Depot. Miracle Grow is terrible about having gnats and eggs in their soil for sale.

The tomatoes are as large or more significant than my fist, with two slightly smaller. This is what you find when your summer has 24/7 daylight. It is also why I supported the many ethnic markets pre Covid. Their food was always better than the national chains.

Because of alien plant and insect species arriving in this state, it is illegal to import or purchase seeds or plants from outside of this state. So the plants you buy are guaranteed to be from Alaska. In the case of national grocery chains, they have a different set of rules for their food, but all seeds and plants sold must be Alaskan-grown with an accompanying attached sticker.

Cooper's here, had his breakfast and is waiting for me to finish my coffee and get dressed so we can go for a walk and freeze our b***s off!

I forgot to say earlier that I have all kinds of Amish farmers around here and some of them sell at the local Farmer's Market on Wednesday.  Some of them have their own stands and some of them grow for Davy's Amish Market.  Lots of choices for good veggies around here!  That's one of the GOOD things about living in the country!

Almost forgot...a lot of the local Amish also sell to Wenger's (local Amish Supermarket.  So that's another choice.  In the summer, you can't go anywhere without passing a roadside produce stand and that's right out of the garden!

I never saw that in Europe.

I am speechless after reading about the tomatoes, Rick! Old as I am that is new to me!  I will save the links to send my kids.... and everyone else I know!!!  One time I took half a box of the little "cherry" type tomatoes down to the river, they just didn't taste right to us.... I thought beaver, raccoon, birds or something would be pleased. Instead they lay there for at least a month without being eaten or rotting... can't recall what got rid of them, maybe high water?  I have not bought ANY of the little ones since!

Patricia & Jane, we do have Amish that live just west of Wichita but so far I haven't found any stands or stores to buy from. The meat stores they own/sell at are not up to snuff so I quit shopping there. We recognize the women everywhere but not sure how restricted they are these days (no horse & buggy rides) so must be driving cars.

Bubble, we do have some stands around town during the summer, selling corn on the cob. I do buy from Walmart or the local Kroger store (this area, Dillons). I even discovered a Ziploc bag of it in my freezer yesterday so will probably eat it today or tomorrow. I can make a meal of corn, cut it off the cob to eat so all the butter doesn't soak into the cob. I am liberal with butter and love to eat!

One year when tomatoes were plentiful, I was chatting with a lady in line at the grocery store & mentioned my searching for signs in yards of tomatoes for sale. She asked where I lived & by the time I got home she had a brown grocery sack full of tomatoes at my front door! I was shocked, don't remember if she let me pay her but she giggled & said she reached the stage where she would put a bag of tomatoes on a friend's porch & run! When we lived out west of the city & my husband delighted in a big garden, we let the woman next door pick all the green tomatoes before Cas pulled out the plants. She said she wrapped each in newspaper, her husband made her a table out of boards on saw horses in their basement and they had fresh, ripe tomatoes until Christmas!

This year we have not seen any good produce, oranges & grapefruit especially ugly. The iceburg lettuce so awful I haven't bought any for weeks. No kidding, on the shelf at the grocery store it looks like what I would throw away. What I grew in the trug was only a  few pickings of the different types of lettuce before it was done. Do we blame Covid, Trump/Biden or Russia/China?   ::)

It is hopefully going to get up to freezing today so better get a move on, have not had my breakfast. Tiger has been out several times, shakes her paws before going out & does a U turn and wants back in. The sun is behind clouds & wind is a-blowing~~~~~ but I love winter.  :uglystupid2:    :crazy2:

Good morning...

Tad late in getting here. Had a slow dance this morning with the shovel. Not enough snow to get the snow blower out but enough it had to be moved. Then off to town to pick up meds and pay bills..

I knew about the tomatoes and apples also get a gassing.

https://agresearchmag.ars.usda.gov/2007/oct/apples#:~:text=To%20slow%20the%20proverbial%20sands,naturally%20regulates%20ripening%20and%20aging.

I also like cold tomatoes but a fresh picked tomato still warm from the sun in a sandwich is also good!

Patricia, I think in time that is the way all our food will be grown, in hot houses.

We have stands and today our Mennonite one is closing for the winter. There are farmers markets in the city but we rarely go to them.

Shirley, one thing I have noticed with the trugs and they need watering.or peat moss in the soil to hold the water. I have all the parsnips and carrots out of the trugs now .

Jane, passing you the crazy glue......you can use it to put your frozen b*tt back on.

Better start the bread making..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning; I'm getting a late start today because I was up until four this morning. I couldn't sleep for no apparent reason, so I slept in until ten. It's presently twelve now and plus two outside.

This is back to our usual winter weather, no 100-year snow dumps so far, stranding travelers and leaving people living in the hills with no way to come into town. And no electricity losses due to heavy snow on the wires with electrical personnel and dump trucks and graders coming north to assist our few available crews and machinery with those 100-year repeated snowfalls.

Plus, those living outside city limits, along one of the rivers, or in the ridges and foothills above town must pay for their road maintenance, sewer, and water, usually through neighborhood associations.

We don't have Amish here but have Mennonites living south of us. We do have some Russians living here, but the ones similar to the Amish are the Old Believers. They split from the Russian Orthodox Church for similar reasons, and at the same time, the Amish split off into their own churches. They dress very similarly to the Amish but in 18th-century Russian clothing and drive cars.

The two types of Russian immigrants both farm altho they do not mix with one group following the Russian Orthodox Church and the Old Believers their churches.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  If I'm not here, I'll be back on Monday after everyone goes home.  Then I'm going to Christy's for Thanksgiving...riding down with Frankie on Wednesday, staying a few days after the holiday and then Christy will take me to my sister's house in the Harrisburg area for a visit with her.  I'll probably be gone at least a week!  And now....GOOD NIGHT, EVERYFRIEND!

Good morning..

Cloudy this morning with a temp of 20° . We did get  a light dusting of snow overnight, but not enough to dance with.

Catching up around  here and baking .

Jane, enjoy your time with your family.

Patricia, my heart goes out to those in Buffalo NY...... can't imagine 4 feet of snow all at once to deal with.  That is the directin David has to go on Sunday and I sure hope the roads are open.

Shirley, I read this also about gassing.
Ethylene gas is used to turn green skin to orange. This process is known as "degreening", also called "gassing", "sweating", or "curing". Oranges are non-climacteric fruits and cannot post-harvest ripen internally in response to ethylene gas, though they will de-green externally.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Many years ago I was sent to Buffalo to work and train for a couple of months, there was a local saying that if Summer fell on a Sunday they would have a picnic. In front of the building I worked in they would put rope between the parking meters for grabbing when the wind got to be too much. Luckily I was not there in the Winter.

Amy, some years back, I was in a group similar to S&F, Thirdage,  and one of those was a woman from Buffalo. I could not conceive of their winters, even looking at photos she sent and of the deep passageways carved through the snow at times.

I searched and found the news about Buffalo and their lake effect snow. Seventy-seven inches in one storm is the very definition of a wet climate!

Nothing is going on today. Yesterday was a recuperating day, as I couldn't sleep the night before. This morning I had trouble waking up.

Jane, I hope you are having a fantastic weekend!

Sandy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  :hb2:  :hb2:

Rick, I can't imagine wind that strong.Gosh, one would walk bent over in that wind.

My friend sent me an email to say 3 duck hunters had their boat capsize. Another fellow in  a canoe heard them yell ,went over to help and they capsized the canoe, now all four were in the cold water. Luckily their yells were heard and another duck boat went to their rescue. My thought was......where were their life jackets??  They are all fine, shook up but alive..

Frankie is still sleeping but Cooper met me in the kitchen and had his breakfast and then we took a (very productive) walk and almost froze.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SANDY, and lots more to come!

Now i'm off to greet Frankie.  I think she's getting up!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

The dance is over..snow is all cleaned up for the time being. Those to the south of us were blessed with more snow than us.

Now to just laze the day in...works for me.

Jane, have fun!!

Happy birthday Sandy, hope your special day was filled with surprises.

Enjoy your  day and stay safe.

Sandy, a very Happy Birthday.... I'm gonna just keep on singing the birthday song this week, had #1 son the 17th, oldest gr-son today, Andy's wife & a gr-daughter tomorrow, & a gr-gr-son the 22nd. Got a couple others a few days later so we do have a "list" when we celebrate Thanksgiving & birthdays all together! Hope which ever day was yours was a GOOD DAY!  :hb3:  :hb2:

Rick, we have winds, yep, WE HAVE WINDY DAYS & weeks. Nothing in the western half of Kansas to slow the wind down and I honestly can tell you that when you cross over the bridge in west Wichita you can tell the difference.

Amy, I can't imagine anything worse that being dunked into that icy water!  I do wrap up with even scarf over mouth to breathe through, & look like a mummy when I go out to work or play in the cold. Still prefer winter over summer.

Going to get my sweats on & snuggle down for a little more sleep. Fitbit says I had 4 hours and one minute sleep and only a few minutes of that was deep sleep.

Oops, you snuck in, Lloyd.  I made it to church this morning but am thinking by next week I may have to give up. This oxygen isn't doing all I hoped, but tried~~~ The church I go to also has it set up for TV so we will do what we can, right?

HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERY FRIEND!

Unbelievable snow levels!

When I lived in Anchorage, which often had 100-mile winds due to being on a narrow strip of land sandwiched between the sea and mountains, I had to once grab a low railing on a fifth-floor open passage to keep from being sucked off the building. They would have small planes upended, and those corrugated green plastic parts tore off buildings. I had cuts on my hands from holding onto that railing so tight.

Good morning..

No new snow here but pink sky in the east...hmmm snow coming??

Going to just work around home today, need to finish off a quilt before I can start another.

Jane, enjoy your time with your family. Does Cooper get to sleep with you or does he make the rounds?

Patricia, can't imagine winds that high!! Shirley, I like winter, when it behaves over summer. Don't care for the wet snow as it is difficult to move.

Phyllis..hope all is well there..

My friend told me about a turkey he saw in the grocery store$75.00 for it.. Told him of the photo my son sent of a prime rib roast.8 lbs for $ 204.00. Ansered back his turkey was cheaper plus you can do a lot more with the leftovers!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up and about!  Christy is about half way home right now and I missed her before she got out of the driveway...and it's a very short driveway!.  She's supposed to text me when she gets home!  We had a good breakfast before she left.  I think I might have invented a good, quick one!   A slice of Lebanon Bologna (or lunch ham) in a little casserole, drop in some grated cheese, break in an egg, add salt and pepper and more cheese on top.  Put it in the microwave for a minute or so and put it all on a toasted and buttered English Muffin and enjoy!

I have work to do around here.  I have a cleaning lady coming at 4 o'clock for an interview.  I'm not sure if I'm interviewing her or she's interviewing me!  Let's hope that whatever it is, it works.

I have to go get ready for Cooper's arrival.  Frankie works at 11 today so it should be pretty soon!  We had a great weekend!  I loved every minute!  Now I'll be getting ready to head to Christy's for Thanksgiving!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

My goodness, I have been so busy enjoying life in San Francisco I just have not taken the time to check in on my very special friends🤪🤪🤪

I have looked in though to see how you all are doing, but just did not post a word....shame on me😩‼️

I am rather put off by all the gassing that goes on with our fruits and vegetables as many of you are.  A couple of times I bought bananas that NEVER ripened and were told they must have missed their "gassing"‼️ We are lucky I guess that the things we buy have any taste at all.

We truly have been enjoying each and every day that we are here.  The weather has been perfect and I feel so good to not have to have the oxygen on here at all.  Overall I feel so much better‼️

Last Thursday we took a drive down to Stanford University and checked out the San Jose area.  Oliver Doodle was delighted to be out and about and enjoyed himself too.

Yesterday we drove across the Bay Bridge to visit my fist, and very favorite, cousin and his family.  It was a delightful time that passed much too quickly. We drove all around the Warf and enjoyed seeing all the craziness down there.  Bought a delicious loaf of the famous sour dough bread here and deliberately broke our Keto Diet and enjoyed it so much.  Yummmm‼️

Our family returns from their trip to India the day after Thanksgiving.  We will have the weekend together and then head back to Colorado on Tuesday the 29th.  Our time here is passing much too quickly and I will not be anxious to head home to the cold and high altitude one bit😩😤😡

I wish you all a good day.

Jenny

Time to head for the haystack!  I'm really tired tonight.  Interview with the cleaning lady went well and I think it's going be a GO with her.  I'll be having her one day a month to do the heavy stuff that I can't do any more.  We'll see how that goes.  She's going to call us back with a price in a day or two.  She probably won't start until after Christmas.  And she wondered how I'd feel about Saturday Mornings.  I'm OK with that!

JENNY, you are sure having a ball!  If your breathing is so much better, you might want to think about moving out of the mountains and closer to that part of your family!

LLOYD, I don't think, I could have eaten what you guys were served that day!  Thank goodness it's not a regular thing in Canada, according to AMY!

I have an overnight guest to cuddle up with tonight.  Frankie worked until 8:30 tonight and she has to be back in at 7 tomorrow so Cooper is spending the night with me!  I love it when he stays over!

I have to start getting my stuff ready for the trip to Christy's on Wednesday.  I already sent the fresh pumpkin with her so she can put it in her fridge to thaw in time to make pies for dinner on Thursday!  There's going to be a crowd of her husband's family there.  It'll be nice to meet them all.  I've met his daughters and some of the others at the wedding but we didn't really get acquainted!

I really tired tonight so I'm going to go take Cooper for a quick walk in the yard and then off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

well It Is time to folow nancy to bed. I have the humidder filled and running by our bed. that is a very good smell. also A little pricey to run. but worth it I think even tho Nancy complaines about the $$ it cost to run, It taks one gallon of distilled water every night. can not use watter out of the fosits , it has too much lime and such, it stops up the filer. and that is a job to clean out. but with that smell I do not have to wear my mask, i have sleep apena and quit breathing for up to two minutes with out the humidefyer. I havent wore my mask for severyl weeks now , with the humidefyer. good noght and sweet dreams.

Jenny, I've been lucky enough to spend time right where you are and enjoyed all that you talked about. My souvenirs from the Warf were such fun for me, opening the oysters to see what kind of pearls I was taking home to my girls/friends, plus some for myself. I even bought little jewelry wire baskets to hold the pearls on a chain. Many years ago & good memories. Cas had week long meetings that wives got to attend, Shirley was rebel enough to tell some of the wives I knew best, "I'm getting a cab to go to...." the Warf one city, the Mexican Market in San Antonio, etc.. I still have the very long tailed kite that also came from the Warf, brittle but have not thrown away. Andy would fly it for our oldest gr-son so was 40+ years ago! You will hate going back to dragging this oxygen around all the time, difficult decisions you & Bob must make.

Lloyd, every now & then I get a roast that I'm sure must be horse meat, but don't think it really is.... you are right that "it can happen".  Matter of fact, I bought some ribs not long ago that were different from any I had seen before (they were already cooked). Did not look like from any animal we usually consider eating.  :P

I gotta get this table cleared off & ready for Thanksgiving work. My son-in-law always sharpens all my knives when his wife & I cook, he is really good at it, but needs this table to work on. It will be a challenge dragging this oxygen hose around & around while baking the turkeys & all that goes with it, I must have been super short on oxygen to even volunteer that job "one more time".  :-[

Good night, Jane & Lloyd, you snuck in while I was on the phone telling my kids good night! 2 of them call every night but the youngest just comes over one evening a week to visit for 2-3 hours. He comes to do a job now & then but always comes if I call with a need for him. Enjoy the family time & I do envy that you found a helper!

Bedtime & I'm shutting down right now!  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone if I don't get back for a couple days!  Sweet dreams and God Bless.  Stay warm and safe! Love y'all. Shirley/Tisie  :pumpkinpie:  :yum:

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will probably be my last message until I'm set up at Christy's.  I have to pack up the computer to take with me and I'm planning on doing that sometime today.  And once it's packed up, I won't be on it.

SHIRLEY, you're taking on a lot!  Don't you think it might be time for you to turn over the entertaining to the next generation?  I know how hard that is but if we're not going to do that, why did we bother to teach them?  And it's also hard to be a guest!  I still like cooking and I did contribute the fresh pumpkin for the pies and I might even end up baking them when I get there.  But I never was really good at pie crust and Christy IS good at it.  The touch must have skipped over me from my baker grandfather and landed on Christy!  My sister was always good at crust, too.

I'm off to finish my lay out of clothes for packing then do the actual packing!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

From USA Facts,

"October's food prices were up compared to a year prior. Turkey and other uncooked poultry was up 16.9% over 2021. (For comparison, it rose 1.7% from October 2020 to October 2021.) Flour was 24.6% higher, while butter was up 26.7% USAFacts collected metrics from the CPI so you can see which kitchen staples might cost this holiday season.

I plan on getting it home and repairieng the damage and screean some of it where we can sleep on it some time. do night fishing. might even build a couple of fish traps  and tie theme to somue booies and flot them in the Lake to catch live fish. Have a good rest of the day.

Not sure I'll get another chance to talk until after turkey day so HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL CELEBRATING!

Sorry about the change of plans, Jane, changing plans seems to be the normal these days! I know you will find the good in the change, Pollyanna that you are!

Lloyd, those humidifiers are so temperamental. Good luck & tell Nancy those little old nurses that advised me to put Vaseline across the bridge of my nose & up between the eyes were sure wise... it worked back when I was 20 & still works at almost 88!

Back to getting my turkeys ready for the oven, one today for that big pot of turkey & noodles & will put the other in the oven about 5:00am tomorrow. That one gets the dressing stuffed inside as well as a big bowl baked along side. I mix it all together 'cause what bakes in the bowl is kinda dry & what comes out of the turkey very moist.

Amy, I'll share if you & Kyle show up!

On with the day. Y'all behave and eat hardy.

Sandy, "Pet the turkey".... so perfect, and I would as you can guess!  Love it!

My house smells delicious, first turkey about done so will be cutting up for the noodles, maybe a few bites since I brought home a pack of brown & serve rolls to put in the oven when turkey comes out. Daughter is here & her husband will be back soon so we will have a little pre-turkey fix! The other will be baked early in the morning with the dressing & everyone fixes all the other stuff.

Back home and ready to rest, been a long day but all was accomplished.

Rick, you brought back memories,  Mary and I would play that song on the player piano and sing along with it, we were about 14 yrs then.

Jane,  tried to call but you must have been out with Cooper.

Shirley, your home must smell so delicious/mouthwathering too!!

Happy Thanksgiving, may you be blessed with good food, family and friends. Prayers for those driving and come back home safe.

Ah, Rick, brought back such wonderful memories. He had the kindest tone in his voice. We used to know all the words to every song... still remember them but not so new ones.

Gotta tell you about this oxygen deal.... told my daughter I'm going to have my ears cranked back up 'cause I step on the hose & it pulls them down all day long. They have to be down to my chin by now. It does help, can tell a difference every time I take it off to run downstairs or outside, I start gasping. I'm going to bed soon since I will be getting up at 4:00 or 5:00am to get that 2nd turkey in the oven along with putting the turkey we baked today (& cut up already) ... into the big stock pot & getting that ready to deliver by 11:15 am.

Jane, safe travels. Callie, keep the wind down if you can, please. And, Patricia, I found 2 Butterball Premiums only size I buy (about 13 lb 'cause that's the size my stainless steel roaster can hold) both under $15. each, all natural, no bad stuff, etc. I grabbed them early for fear they wouldn't have the little ones later. Got the 2 Peppridge Farm stuffing I always use & 4 16oz bags of Reams noodles plus the chicken broth & got the onion & celery chopped that goes in everything so I'm ready to sleep. I'll be seeing those turkeys in my sleep! It is very dark out so must be cloud cover.

Stay safe everyone, crazy people out there. Sweet dreams and God Bless.

Good morning...

Overcast here with a temp of 31° at the moment.  Picked up hamburg yesterday so today will be cooking and canning it today. Applesauce to make and laundry to do also. I don't need to look for work it seems it always finds me.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving  safe travels for those on the roads.

Jane great talking with you last night.

Rick ,have that song going through my head and the wonderful memories I have of working on the farm. Mary, her sister and I would walk our 4H calves on the road , put them back in the pens and play the piano, there were a lot of rolls but that one was our favourite.

Patricia, how is the weather your way? We could be in for rain this week, needless to say all the snow will be gone then.

Better scoot.

David cooked our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Simple but filling and we will give thanks for it and thanks for having each other.  Happy Thanksgiving to all of S&F friends.

Phyllis, good morning; it sounds like you and David had a very nice Thanksgiving, it's good to see your post, and I hope everyone is having a lovely one with family and friends!

Well, Amy, since you asked,  ;)  It hasn't changed a whit. Plus eleven this morning and cloudy. Yesterday we were enveloped in a dense white fog that lasted the night before and all day, except there was no snow, only ice crystals. Today looks to be more of the same. No one will be traveling far today!

Our plans for Thanksgiving with the hill folk have been canceled, and we're celebrating in place. I did have a Thanksgiving lunch with friends in town earlier in the week, and I've lots of leftovers!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃 to all who celebrate today.  No matter what, we ALL have so much to be thankful for🙏

We are spending our day alone here in SF today.  We bought a prepared meal from Costco for our dinner.  It is a half boneless breast, stuffing, mashed taters, gravy and green beans.  We bought a pre done baby sweet potatoes.  It's going to be yummy.

Today we are hoping to meet on Face Time,  a lady friend of Dave's who is coming over for TG and they are cooking their meal together.  We are anxious to meet her.

I wish you all the best today and always.  I have been hosting a cold
for the past couple of days.....the coughing is the worse😩😩

We had a wonderful gathering with the best foods possible. Everyone went out of their way to fix favorite recipes. I came home so full I was almost sick. My mother would have rolled her eyes at being a glutton. I wish each & everyone could have shared.

We had almost spring type weather, warm enough to dash in & out without a coat but if you stayed out long enough you got chilled. I'm going to bed, did have a nap after coming home so full. Picture it, that feeling of stuffed to the gills, totally happy and snuggled down with a smile/grin of satisfaction. Pure bliss. Even when life isn't perfect if you concentrate of the good surrounding you, there is plenty to be happy about! Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love y'all.  Shirley/Tisie

What a way to wake up..phone call from Daniel at Amazon customer  service.

Too many scams going round and I do wish they/police could catch/stop them.

Good morning.. :)

Got that off my chest.  :2funny:   Rain is slowly taking away the snow and we have a temp of 36° at the moment.

Dealing with the apples today, some into sauce, some into pie filling and some just to eat the way they are.

Patricia, talking with son last night he said fog had started to settle in where he lives. So far we are fine but we may get it later on with this warm weather.

Shirley, now the good part comes...leftovers!! Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family and yes "Even when life isn't perfect if you concentrate of the good surrounding you, there is plenty to be happy about!"

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

I had a nice nap after the kids left to go back to St.Louis and #1 son & wife stopped by to pick up a couple things. There was a radio or TV show long ago where the Chinese man always spoke of his #1 son............ don't remember what it was but with 2 sons my mind brings that up. Anybody else remember that show?

Amy, you mentioned "leftovers" and I did a big sigh.... I didn't bring ANY left overs home. I also didn't bring the big stainless stock pot or the stainless turkey roaster home as I don't plan to do this again & their new owners got to clean them out. They all fight over the leftovers & my daughter's oldest son had to be with his wife's family and he is the biggest fan of the turkey noodles & stuffing, gravy, etc. so begged his mother to save some for him! Nobody likes turkey but never a morsel left over that isn't taken home to be savored later. When I left I had the girls scrape off plates into a container I could take down to the river for critters.... nobody left anything on their plates! I did have bones here since we cut up the turkeys before taking over, so daughter & I walked those down when they came by later in the afternoon.

I gotta find me something to eat, had a big salad for lunch but not enough protein to keep this body running. Peanut butter & grape jam sounds good. Peanut butter on Ritz crackers with a mug of hot chocolate also sounds good. Something light.

Gotta take my Saturday night shower & wash my hair, lay out clothes for church. Takes a little longer to haul that portable oxygen thing around (along with a purse/tote every bit as big & heavy). So far it's working, I do complain but will use cause it does help.

Sweet dreams & God Bless, love y'all.  Shirley/Tisie

It's Monday morning and "I got the crud"....  why that term sticks in my mind I do not know. Back in 1952 when I was a Junior & on the high school cheerleading team, there was a Senior girl that I thought was cute as could be, had dimples clear thru her cheeks & always something original to say. One day she showed up looking totally beaten down, no make-up, hair a mess, etc. She kept saying, "I got the crud".... all day until everyone was saying it & laughing.

Yesterday I didn't feel up to par but not sick until I took a nap in the afternoon. Woke up with a gravely voice & started coughing. That went from bad to worse overnight so I got up just after 2:00am to see if water or anything would stop the coughing. After a couple hours playing solitaire on the kindle I fixed an egg sandwich, piece of cinnamon toast & big mug of hot chocolate & went back to bed for a couple hours sound sleep. Now I have a bowl of canned soup to sip and put 3 of the Hawaiian rolls in the oven to warm & so far nothing is going down in a real "feel good" stage. I may just go back to bed. "I got the crud."  If that is a bad word.... well, I Googled & it has a whole new meaning these days!!! I can go back to bed with the TV in the background & sleep in peace! I am not offending.  :-[

Hope y'all have a great day. Amy, Cas made some bird feeders using pieces of glass to see the seed as it funneled it's way to the tray the birds could sit on. One pair of house finches decided that looked like a nice place to build a nest so Cas slid out one side of glass & they raised a couple sets of babies until we decided they were too messy right by the back sliding door & took it down. I'm sure Kyle has lots of plans in his head.

Shirley, having the "crud" is not nice...zaps your energy for sure. We would always get a glass of HOT gingerale and one aspirinjust before bed time. Went to bed right after downing it and gosg did you sweat it out during the night. Plus if we had a cough we would get a tsp of solid honey and you were told to slowly let it melt and no more coughing. There now you know my old time remedies that we had as children. Hope you feel better soon.

Patricia, you are missed..

Ok Jane, it is good you are having a great time with family but pop in and say hello when you get a moment.

Amy, do you think Gatorade will be a good enough substitue?  My mother was also a big believer in the honey (and she added vinegar). A tablespoon of each. I ate half a sweetpotato with a nice chunk of butter, cut up some ham steak into bites & fried in a tad of butter with water so it didn't get too dried out, and a slice of cranberry sauce. Got it down & think I'm ready for another nap! We used to get a lathering of BenGay on our chest & back but don't think I have any in the house, probably do BUT....  Take care, hope you take photos of those birdhouses before someone picks up. Cas had a bundle of thick shake shingles left so that he used for the tops. Kept him busy one winter.

Good morning..

Back to normal temps 21° at the moment no snow in the forecast but rain and high winds tomorrow.

Just working around home today..seems the dust bunnies had a party last night and are scattered about ,so putting the run on them.

Shirley, no gatorade won't work. I am thinking it is the ginger in the gingerale that does the trick and wonder if ginger tea would be the next best to try??? Did you know that gatorade has 11% of ones daily sodium intake in it? Not that great for low sodium diets  for heart patients.

Better get and shake a leg, work won't get done by itself...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

[/font]I'm thinking, I'm thinking.... really, Gatorade is full of salt?  Strange that I never thought to check it for SALT!  Cas used to take it in his golf bag. I don't really like the taste but got a lot of suggestions to drink for leg cramps. Is there a mixed drink that calls for gingerale? I think there is an unopened bottle in the liquor cabinet. Cas kept a little of everything in his office because the guys made their deals in private (buying, selling & trading crude oil), he had a sharp brain & knew where every gallon of crude was that he could buy or trade & what it took to get it to the refinery. Anyway, the booze is in a cabinet & been aging for many more years since he retired.

The first year or so in England the landlord & wife invited us to "go pub calling". At each pub everyone ordered a gin & tonic. I never like the taste of any (including wine) but didn't want to embarrass anyone by not ordering, so by the time they were pretty well crocked I was stone cold sober & a little concerned about any of them driving. All booze does for me it go straight through & I back & forth to the girls room! I really could drink a room full of sailors under the table without a buzz. From then on I just kept the same glass in my hand the whole evening & nobody knew the difference.

We were in the 50s when I woke up this morning (daylight time wake up)... temp supposed to go down all day. Weatherman warned everyone to take their coats for the trip home tonight. The wind is blowing all directions so watching the leaves blow from one yard to another. Oops, gotta run. Have a great day!

Shirley , just like canned tomato soup has sugar in it. My friend didn't realize it had a lot of sugar, she is diabetic and it sent her on a spin. She now makes her own.....no sugar!

Coralled the dust kangaroos and finally canned the cabbage/vegetable/meat soup and washed the vehicle......that is it for today....I hope.

Good Afternoon,

Shirley, sorry you're dealing with "the crud".  Vicks-Vapo-Rub and Mentholatum were the "chest rubs" in my family.

My family were "tee-totalers" (no alcohol of any kind!) but Grandmother used to keep a bottle of ginger ale in the fridge and I loved it over ice as a Special Treat when I was growing up.

Gator Ade comments remind me of back in the 80's when Mother was so excited that she'd seen a new drink in the grocery store that she thought might do to serve to her Bridge Club.  It came in cherry, grape, lemon flavors and was called GatorAde.   I knew she was thinking it was similar to lemonade or orangeade.
We kept it on hand for the family athletes so I gave her a small glass to try.  Her next comment (in a disgusted tone):  "WELL!  Why do they keep it with the juice?

Looks as if Patricia is sending us another Arctic cold spell.  It's currently 68º but supposed to fall into the 30's (with wind chill in the 20's) in the next couple of hours. Glad I've done my errands and am now "in for the duration".

Stay/get well and safe.
 :hugs:

Sounds like we need a section in the stores for NON-Health Foods..... I'm disillusioned. My brain can't cope with this AND the CRUD. What a world.  :'(

Well, temps are dropping fast now, Callie. I just asked Google & it's 31 with feels like 19 right now. It was 54 when I woke up one of the times this morning, near dawn I think. That wind goes right through, need a layer of cotton, down & then nylon to go out today.

My daughter-in-law has the Crud today so hope we don't have everyone sick at once! I've got to go fry 3 apples that are not crunchy enough to eat. Hate to peel them like that but my tummy doesn't like the peelings anymore. Doesn't take long, just gotta get up and do it!

Pollyanna found something good about today, the wind finally brought down almost all the rest of the sweet gum leaves. Once those get picked up the little spikey balls will come down & I have a new little cage thing to roll across the yard the picks them up & I can empty it right into the dumpster. We'll see how that goes this year.

I'm trying to hang in at the house as long as Tiger-Cat is here. I hate to have to put her to sleep but she would be miserable having to live where she couldn't go out & had people all around. My son has 2 cats but they get de-clawed as babies so no memories of the free life. Really not any other choice.

Forgot I didn't post, got the apples fried, ham steak "wet fried" to mix with the sweet potato and pickled beets out but not opened yet, I like them cold but not sure how they will go with candied fried apples. My tummy is not up to snuff yet. Enough about my house & me. Hope everyone has a nice rest of the day, sweet dreams & God Bless.

Good morning..

Liquid sunshine here this morning, and will be accompanied with high winds later on.
Taking my friend to the city for her appointment at the pacemaker clinic, she doesn't  like the part where they stop the pacemaker and start it back up. Can't say as I blame her on that! We are leaving early to do a bit of shopping, then appointment and then home.

Shirley explain "wet fried" please,I have never heard that term before.

Callie ,we also have another drink called Ginger beef ,non alcoholic  but not a drink I enjoy. Prefer the ginger ale  and always keep it on had for when we have colds or stomach upset.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Sure, Amy.... you know how dried out ham can get when heating in a skillet... well, instead of real oil or grease I use a tad of water & watch close as it cooks down, drop a little butter in for a fresher flavor & quickly turn off the heat. I like ham but not it's fat so does get dry.

We have bright sunshine this morning, windy but not as bad as yesterday, but "baby, it's cold out there!"

Need to fix breakfast for the 2 of us (Tiger only drinks her Fairlife milk).

Been watching flock after flock of birds flying out to the fields. Lots of cormorants that winter at the lake created some years ago about a "mile section" from my house. The managment at that lake/complex tried to scare them off but as long as the trees stand around the water, the cormorants will stay, and the eagles, herons, etc. I got up early in my younger years to take photos with early light & evening light, but that was before the latest camera with the extra long zoom. That was when Jack (remember Jack & his goldens.. Mimi was the last?) came up with the Panasonic Lumix with the super long zoom.  A bunch  of us enjoyed Jack's dogs as well as his photographic skills & camera smarts & bought cameras he recommended.

All of a sudden the air is still, trees not moving. We didn't get any snow at all. Time to start this day. Wishing everyone a day of satisfaction!
