 IF

If If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
- R. Kipling

Good morning everyone, it is COLD this morning, 34° and will not get out of the 40's today. I went out for a walk yesterday got to the end of the building, turned around and came back in. Was still windy and I was almost shivering. Today if i go out I will be wearing either fleece pants or "geemagotchees" as Joan used to call them. Maybe I should get LLBean online and get some long "woolies"

JANE  I felt like you yesterday when I could not get in here. I know I had your phone number and finally found it on my external drive but then for a email from Amy telling me the site was back.

JENNY  I would not like the thought of moving again. I have got rid of so many thing with the moves I have made that what I have now is mostly sentimental and would have to part  with any of it.

BUBBLE  thanks for a new book to fill up. Love your graphics and your quotes. I really like IF.

AMY  like you I copied IF to print out and share.

Have a good day.

Good Saturday morning.  And it sure is COLD !  Had to push the thermostat up a little bit.

Yes, I did try to get in here for a while, but then gave up.  Late last night I was surprised when I tried and there you all were.  I had planned on calling Jane if I couldn't get in here today.  So, everything is back to normal now, I guess.

I am only marking my spot right now.  I am expecting a friend to stop by and then I am supposed to be going out for supper.

Thanks, Bubble,  for the new page for the new month.  Lot of things will be happening now looking forward to the holidays.

So, I will be back later, hopefully.

Have a great day.

Joy

Thank you for bringing us back together, Oldiesman.

Sunny and cold here this morning, too.  I think summer has finally given up.  We need rain.   The storms on Thursday night didn't affect us too much in my neighborhood but caused damage and outages just to the north of us.  We had a little rain and a gust of wind or two and that was about all.  We had quite a few trick or treater's but they were all back home, out of the weather, by 8 p.m.  The little ones are so cute.

I hope everyone is doing well and that this will be a good day for all of us.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here this morning, too, 33 degrees when I got up and only up to 35 now.  I do believe Winter is upon us!

BUBBLE, thanks so much for our nice, clean new HAPPY PLACE!  I love all your offering.  Did you know there is also an "If for Girls"?  When my sisters and I were growing up, it was hanging in our bedroom and periodically, my mother would recite it to us.  I suppose she had to learn it in school but she never forgot it.  My sister and I used to follow her on the one on the wall and she never missed a word.  I wonder what happened to that picture?  I'll have to ask my sister.  She never forgets anything.  Thank you for bringing me back a lovely memory of my childhood.

I guess I better get my chores started of the day will be over before I ever get started.  Slept pretty wall last night and didn't wake up until almost 7.

I wish you all  lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Oh wow!  I found it!

[ An "If" for Girls
By Elizabeth Lincoln Otis

(With apologies to Mr. Rudyard Kipling)

If you can dress to make yourself attractive,
      Yet not make puffs and curls your chief delight;
If you can swim and row, be strong and active,
      But of the gentler graces lose not sight;
If you can dance without a craze for dancing,
Play without giving play too strong a hold,
Enjoy the love of friends without romancing,
      Care for the weak, the friendless and the old;

If you can master French and Greek and Latin,
And not acquire, as well, a priggish mien,
If you can feel the touch of silk and satin
      Without despising calico and jean;
If you can ply a saw and use a hammer,
Can do a man's work when the need occurs,
Can sing when asked, without excuse or stammer,
      Can rise above unfriendly snubs and slurs;
If you can make good bread as well as fudges,
Can sew with skill and have an eye for dust,
If you can be a friend and hold no grudges,
      A girl whom all will love because they must;

If sometime you should meet and love another
And make a home with faith and peace enshrined,
And you its soul—a loyal wife and mother—
You'll work out pretty nearly to my mind
The plan that's been developed through the ages,
And win the best that life can have in store,
You'll be, my girl, the model for the sages—
A woman whom the world will bow before./size]

Cold here as well, sun shining and wind not as bad as earlier this week. That wind can cut through most clothes, but a layer of nylon saves the day!

Last knee report (for this round)... Dr says "touch of arthritis & meniscus (whatever that means)... to exercise & keep loose but not abuse. I refused the shot in the knee that seems to be the normal fix, but filled the "gel" script (for $60) that did nothing for me. Gloria, was as un-affective as the HemVana...and triple the price. But today I am able to move around without the walker if I have a wall to lean on, use walker when I want the gait normal, but so far getting a little more movement every day, but don't dare twist or put too much pressure on that leg. Bones in my hands are really sore from carrying my weight when walking, have a "hop" when not using the walker. I do have a new respect for people with knee injuries, for sure the pain it right up with having a baby & open heart surgery!

Thank you, Bubble, for the graphics & the wit & wisdom, all with special meanings....

My plan is to call the couple that took down the little building & see if they can come Mon or Tues to cut down the tall grass & bundle for trash & extra yard work before rain expected on Wed. Don't have the canvas cover over the AC so will have them put that on, a 2 people job. Normally I love this time of year & the work outside, but will not push my luck. Then I want to start on the inside, you know it is only weeks until Thanksgiving!!!!

Have to laugh at "circumstances" and seriously think God must be smiling at this, to see if I can hold my temper/patience. Not long ago the smoke alarm downstairs started beeping so I put in a new battery. When I did the test it wouldn't screach so I brought the whole thing up to check it out. Son convinced me it was okay, I just hadn't pushed the test button long enough. Well, it was at least a week before I got it back downstairs & installed. The day after the knee went out one of the 3 on this floor started beeping but NEVER when anyone was around to help define which. With the angles of this house, sounds "mix", so after several days of that ding-blasted thing beeping it finally died and I still don't know which one has the dead battery. Last night the one in the hall nearest my bedroom started. I gave it half a dozen beeps & got out of bed, got the short ladder out & took that whole thing down & disconnected the battery. I will have to find my supply of batteries to make sure I have 4 new 9v ones & replace all at the same time, need it or not!

And that, dear Friends, has been my week. Not exactly exciting but glad it's over. As Pollyanna would say, "the good of it is the Doppler showed NO blood clots and the X-ray showed NO broken bones. Since I was diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis nearly 30 years ago, that is good news the bones aren't crumbled!

I'd still love to go camping, would have to be "dry camping"... to make sure not a drop of water gets into any of the pipes, but I've done it before. I have an electric heater #1 son gave me for Christmas last year... even has a remote control, or can use the "heat pump" with furnace of RV. On a sunny day in the woods of Missouri, the critters are scampering around still gathering nuts (mostly hickory), birds yelling their warnings & the leaves drifting down slowly, no wind like in Kansas. The cats & I watch out the windows, put in a DVD to watch & cuddle on the bed, sleep or think. Absolute Heaven!

Jane, love the other side of IF... Back in our early years I think it was normal to have sayings & things on walls, a way to learn without the drill. We had maps & flags around the ceiling, thanks to my middle brother, at one time I knew the flags of the world.

Amy, I will have to hurry this knee to be stronger so I can watch the migrating birds down along the river. I have seen bittern go through, had to look up in a bird book, not a bird that we see often. Saw the first "snow" birds (Junco) out the window last week. Know winter is here when.........

Wishing everyone a happy day.  "Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be." quote attributed to Lincoln.

:hello:

No posts since I "waved" so I'll just edit this one for The Morning Report.

Shirley,  Juncos must be moving south.  I saw the first one of the season at the bird feeder this morning.

Also saw a new thing - and solved the mystery of finding small holes in the yard covered with a leaf.  A big crow landed on the grass carrying some kind of nut in its beak (have seen squirrels with these but don't know what tree they come from).  It pecked a hole in the dirt, dropped the nut in - then picked up and discarded several leaves until it found one that would fit into the hole to cover the nut.  Wonder if the crow will remember where it is?

Only Plan du Jour is to make up a bag of slider buns into baked sandwiches.  So good for lunch - especially now that "soup weather" is here.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Haha, Callie, that reminds me of the year Cas was trying to grow new grass & kept finding big chunks pulled out... then he saw the critter doing it. Had a yellow something woodpecker, we figured looking for grubs, walking along just slinging those clumps of grass like it was a day time job!  Same critter would hop on the transformer on the pole at the edge of the yard & bam-bam until you had to wonder how it's poor beak didn't look like ... remember the cartoons of wiley coyote & the road runner? That road runner was always making it's beak look like a saw blade.  ;D

Love to watch the crows, they really think. One year we had lots of Canada geese come up to the fence & beg, Cas would buy them 50 pound bags of corn (until he realized that was a big mistake). The crows would watch the geese pig out & they weren't getting their share until one crow started hopping on the back of a goose... to make it move. After doing that to the same goose a few times it would fly off & the crow would walk along looking for corn where the goose vacated. We don't see them at all the last couple years. Some stay year around but the migrating ones are not stopping on this stretch of the river. Beautiful day, just gotta get out!

Another day has gone. Laundry done but weather  of snow and rain  laundry dried inside. Rex is doing much better even used his bad leg to stand on while watering the grass. I feel as long as he doesn't run or carry on which he does do his leg with be fine. Time is a great healer so hope it works. Repair man came and problem solved with the tv remote.

Shirley, crows are so smart! I will put something out for them, not a crow in sight, give a whistle and come inside to look out the window and they are at the food. No idea of where they are but soon one or more will come. One will tell the others that there is food then one crow will stay high in the pines as a look out.  Now I have a one legged herring gull....noticed him the other day.  Did you google meniscus?

Callie ,how do you make your sliders and do they freeze well?

Lloyd, animals can be so entertaining.. such a little bird ,feisty and so pretty too!

We take 2 or 3 humming bird feeders to CO, the campgrounds are full & they still fight over a feeder. Youngest son bought one that had suction cup to attach to the RV window so the cats could see them up close. After a little while they were bored with watching.

Amy, one year there was a Canada goose with fish line tangled between it's legs. When I first noticed it could walk okay but the line kept getting tighter & guess cut circulation from one leg. Finally the leg came off & dangled from the fish line. I felt like crying every day when it came to eat. I tried everything to get close to it but wouldn't have any part of me being able to touch it. Eventually a man that rescues wildlife heard about it & came with a net to capture. He did cut the line off but afraid he turned it loose too soon & the other leg was too weak to hold it up. I walked down the river several houses away & took corn to throw on the little island it stayed on for weeks after all the others went south..except it's mate waiting on it. Finally one day it took off after it ate, like to say good by & circled over head where it's mate waited, & never saw it again. I made a video of it & posted on Vimeo, I think it was... don't have the password or link to it I don't think. So sad.... I love to watch wildlife but know they have a hard life. Could be a link to that video on the oldest computer.

I did Google meniscus but since my son & daughter's husband have both been plaqued with the problem & both had the same experience of absolutely crashing down at work with the knee going out...and all 3 of our doctors had the same approach to what to do, I'm getting all sort of advice & suggestions. The one I thought had the best link was one Bubble sent me & I passed along to my kids. Has a different fix for the problem. It was good to make sure no blood clots or broken/smashed bones but I was surprised that so much pain would come from "soft tissue".

Here it is, Saturday night & time to shower & wash my hair! Wishing all a beautiful Sunday, peaceful sleep and pleasant dreams. God Bless.  Shirley

this was a busy day and I'm very tired.  I'm glad you are all dealing so well with your problems.

SHIRLEY, the story about the gull brought tears to my eyes!  What a sad story!

I got lots of stuff done today but nothing really shows.  It was what I call "putzing".  You keep going and you never do anything that really shows but you're busy all day!

Now I'm going to watch a little TV through my eyelids and then hit the hay.  Tomorrow is All Saints Day and we only have one combined service at church at 10 so I don't have to hurry in the morning.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  I sure did miss you all!

Shirley, last summer, I kept finding mulch from the flower beds scattered out on the grass.  Of course, I blamed the  :tickedoff:  squirrels until I saw two brown thrashers tossing it about with their beaks.  Not sure what they were looking for but wish they'd picked up their mess!

Amy:  My slider recipe is similar to the ones using Hawaiian Rolls but I like the slider buns. And, yes, they freeze beautifully.  Great with soup or salad.

BAKED SLIDER SANDWICHES

One dozen slider buns (Pepperidge Farm makes them but I'm seeing other brands in the grocery store now)
12 slices deli-sliced ham
12 slices deli-sliced turkey
(I can get deli=sliced Oscar Mayer ham and turkey slices in the same package)

3 slices deli-sliced Swiss cheese (cut in fourths to make 12 squares)
3 slices deli-sliced mild Cheddar cheese (cut in fourths to make 12 squares)
(Actually, you can use any type of cheese you want - just make sure it's very thinly sliced)

Split buns and place bottom halves on a cookie sheet - about an inch apart.
Top each with 1 slice ham, 1 square cheese, 1 slice turkey and 1 square cheese  (meat slices have to be folded a bit)

Add top bun halves and brush with a mixture of:

4 TBS. (1/4 cup) oleo (melted)
2 tsps. white sugar
2 1/2 tsps. onion powder or dried onion flakes (I prefer the powder)
1 1/2 tsps. Honey Mustard spread (Durkees)
1 1/2 tsps. Worcestershire sauce

Melt the oleo in microwave bowl for 30 seconds. Then add other ingredients, stir and microwave about 25-30 seconds - or until honey/mustard is dissolved.
Use all of the melted mixture to brush tops of sandwiches. (I like to brush in one direction and then "criss-cross" in the other direction.  Okay to let it drip down the sides.)

Cover cookie sheet lightly with foil and let set at least an hour - longer okay.

Bake about 10-15 minutes at 350º.
If not eating immediately, let cool and wrap each sandwich in foil. Freeze or can keep in fridge for several days.  When ready to eat, unwrap and microwave about 30 seconds.

Callie, thank you! I  am going to do this plus send your recipe to my son. He will appreciate the fact they freeze and so easy to make.

Jane, I know what you mean about putzing.my date with Jack is over for the time being I am now sewing blocks together now so maybe  there might be more dates :(

Shirley, life can be cruel for the animals and some do adapt  to their problem. They just have to work a little harder at it. I try to help by putting lots of food out for them.

More about those birds & their messes... we couldn't figure out why our driveway was such a mess along both sides... until we saw a robin walking up & down picking up leaves & tossing onto the concrete... lazy way of looking for worms! Didn't have many messes this year because CallieCat lays out front when the sun is shining & the robins just sit in the tree & fuss at her. Good or bad, she doesn't have a reason to hunt anymore, we have changed her life. I made my kids promise to trap and have the vet put to sleep all 3 if I can't take care of them. They would never adjust to living anywhere else and I don't want them to suffer because WE changed their lives, they are as free as the wild birds in the trees.

I have one more room to change clocks... kitchen stove/oven/microwave. Then I'm done because I think everything else changes automatically. I really think it is crazy to change clocks, sure doesn't change weather or day light!!! Who are we kidding? If "they" want kids to start school earlier or later, why not just change that time?

Your sandwiches sound delicious, Callie. My kids are all dieting so not eating much bread. They will still eat biscuits & gravy given a chance, but all working hard on their bodies. Since I never had to watch what I eat because I burn it off, I tease them about "being no fun to eat with anymore". I'm glad they don't have my fast heart rate & higher than normal BP, but it is normal for me & I'm not going to try to change it now.

I've been thinking all day about my mother's sandwich loaf she made for Garden Club or other organizations that she belonged to. She would call the bakery & have them save a loaf of sandwich bread unsliced. then she would make 2 equal slices the long way (wonder if the bakery did that for her??) Maybe she cut the crusts off first (that became croutons) She made meat spread with ground roast, Miracle Whip/or Mayo, pickle relish, onion, celery & hard boiled eggs chopped fine. The other layer was cheese spread made with Velvetta cheese, Miracle Whip or mayo & chopped pimentoes, had to mash with a potato masher. Then she would "ice" the whole loaf with cream cheese whipped with tiny chunks of pineapple & pineapple juice so it would spread smoothly. When she sliced a piece it made a very pretty "presentation" on a plate. I've never made it for my family, not the loaf... they could live on the meat spread & do love the cheese spread. I'm hoping to have my kids & spouses for a snack & dessert during the Christmas season, no grands or greats, just not up to that many anymore. I will make 2 desserts that my mother was noted for... remember when that chocolate cake was "in" back in the '40s-'50s... that you added the cup of boiling water just before popping into the oven?  She made a "white" fudge icing for it that was always hard & everyone laughed at it but each of us tried a different icing & was not as good. That and the cheese cake with the graham cracker bottom & top.... My son-in-law's mother made it & his favorite thing in the world because it reminds him of her.. & think everyone else likes it as well. SO that's my plan  :smitten: ~~ and you know what happens with plans.  ::)

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My neighbors left for Florida yesterday so escaped the freezing weather we had overnight.  It was 31 degrees when I got up this morning and it's not going any higher than 42 today.  I think Old Man Winter has moved in!  And they say it's going to be a bad one around here.

I have and ANNOUNCEMENT!  You are all invited to a party in the Soda Shoppe on December 2.  As of yesterday, December 1 will be my last day of employment!  My daughter says "It's waaay past time!  And my Texas daughter says, "now you don't have any excuse for not moving in with me!"  I'm not going that route but it's nice to know she wants me! I'm sure I'll miss the people because I really like the interaction with all those customers.  I'll probably be burning your ears a lot more with my trivial pursuits.

It's almost time for the boinger so I better get moving.  Annie's starting to tell me what time she thinks it is and I have to hold her off until the pill is in her system.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good snowy morning everyone..

Seems winters is really pushing itself on us this weekend. Snow isn't staying but all too soon it will.

A day of rest here, I don't even have to cook as there is leftovers to heat up!  I would like to sew but will see what the day brings.

Jane YIPPIEEE Dec 1st can't come quick enough. You sure have earned this retirement. IF you find you have time on your hands you may want to volunteer at the hospital??  Now I said IF for I found when we retired we had so many things we wanted to do catch up of or just sit(which doesn't happen ) for the day. What about visiting your Texas daughter for the winter? I also copied Callies recipe and sent it to David, that would be a great food for him when on the road.

Shirley, your Mom's sandwich loaf sounds like a lot of work with delicious results!! My Mom use to do all sorts of fancy sandwiches for showers etc. She would also make baby booties out of Madera (sp) cakes icing them in blue or pink icing with ribbon as the laces.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone. Anyone mixed up with the time change? I woke and it was getting light already but now it will be dark so early, not nice. 34° and every thing covered with frost outside. After all the rain and wind so many trees are bare. Oh well will not be long now till we see them dressed in white.

SHIRLEY  like the saying goes, every one's body is different. The Hempvana is great on my back. Stop hopping and use the rollator as long as you need it.

JANE  glad you are finally going to retire. Just  surprised you did not wait till the end of December.

Sorry I have not written more just read this morning. Really nothing new here as usual and think I am ready for a nap already.

Have a good day.

Jane, you finally did it!!!  Congratulations.  Take it from a long-time retiree, you will not regret it.  I volunteered for many years and now I don't even do that.  Of course, my not having a car helps for that.  I'll be at your party.  I'm so happy for you!

Just had to stop by this evening to say Congratulations to you, Jane.  That is a wise decision, and I am sure you won't miss all the Christmas busyness.  You picked a good time.  I know all your favorite customers will surely miss you.  But, you will enjoy being able to do whatever you want to do at any time.

I had a restful day.  I did get to go out for dinner with my youngest son.  The middle son was just too tired to go. We went to a favorite place to get sour beef and dumplings.  One of our favorite dinners.  I used to make my own, but this place makes theirs as close to mine as I have ever found.  And, we have tried it at numerous places, and this is way to good to make it anymore myself. It is not hard to make, just time consuming. I brought enough left overs home for 2 more meals.  I did buy a couple extra dumplings as they give you extra gravy and there is lots of meat.

It sure has gotten a lot colder. I have been cold all day.  Keep pushing the thermostat up and down.  I do have a heating element in my recliner, and it does help to take the chill off of me.

The Ravens football game is on tonight at the same time of a new Hallmark movie, so I will be switching back and forth during the commercials.  The game will probably go until midnight, so I will get to see the end of it.  My grandson told me someone had given him a ticket, so it will be a late night for him and he will have to get up for work in the morning.  It takes about 45 min. to get down into Baltimore city from where we live.  And, traffic will be bad.

I guess I will clean up my supper dishes and then curl up in my nice recliner.

Hope everyone is having a nice evening.

Joy

It's going to take me some time to get used to the time change.  It's only 9 o'clock on the clock but it's already 10 in my head.  I think I'll try to get to bed a little early because I have a 9a.m.  at WM tomorrow.  I really don't like this time change but short of moving to Arizona, there's not much I can do about it.

Callie, I got a package of slider buns today but I don't think I'll make them until Tuesday morning.  I'll tell you when I do.

I also found a recipe for fruit cake that uses crushed pineapple and maraschino cherries.  My daughter said that the thing she doesn't like about fruit cake is the candied fruit and the raisins.  So I'm going to make this recipe in little loaf pans and take one to her house on Thanksgiving.  We'll see!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept well last night but I woke early.  Even the dogs weren't awake when I got up but they roused as I got dressed to go out in the COLD weather.  Now we're waiting for the dog food to be ready for them to eat and then we'll all have breakfast.  I think I hear the boinger now.

AMY, please keep that white stuff in Canada.  Don't let the Canadian stuff change it's nationality!

I wish you all a lovely day!

Let me add my congratulations, Jane.  I know you will enjoy your new freedom from working to a schedule.  But, because you are always on the go I know you will still lead a busy life.  Enjoy it!

Cold here this morning but I'm not sure we had the freeze that was predicted.  The sun is bright and the air is clean and clear.  It's a beautiful day.

Take care, All.

Good morning everyone. Cold this morning and not cool, 28° and all the car s in the par king lot are white with frost. sure glad I do not have to go out early. The sun is shining so should warm up by the time I am ready for a walk.

COTTONCANDY  always nice to see you pop in here. One doctor I used to go to had me on BP pills but the better one I now have dropped it and also a cholesterol pill. Both are fine so don't need the pills and I like taking none.

CALLIE  I think we are all happy that JANE is going to retire.

LLOYD  seems every year a few st leaving the time alone but nothing is done. We should follow Arizona, then do not change the time.

JOY  I miss the Hallmark channel but it is not included in my cable subscription.

JANE  like your daughter I do not like the candied fruit and really hate raisins. My oldest son is the only one in my family who loves fruitcake and he likes marmalade, too. A SIL used to make a fruitcake with whole dried fruit and nuts and I did like that, no raisins in it.

AMY white here. too. Not with snow but frost. I didn't see Roley and after reading your post I back tracked and did not see anything.

JANE  like you Canada can keep the snow for now, Just a little at Christmas will be enough for me. Glad I am not out right now.

Have a good day.

Jane, my son retired & was asked to come back "at his schedule & convenience.".. he already had several other things on his plate so is now 10x busier than before he retired.  I'll bet they will be begging you to help out during the Christmas rush, and then it will be inventory...etc... right?  Enjoy & have a great life!

Right now the wind is NOT blowing like it did yesterday. I noticed around the corner some of the trees are almost bare so a good puff of wind & those leaves will be clinging to my front porch. I have rails with yucca plants surrounding that catch anything from the west. Most of the people around here only pick up leaves when the last fall so if I don't want to stumble over piles of them, I get to pick up at least 4 extra bags each week. The mulcher I bought last year does a good job of crushing them, but can't fill too full or this old lady can't drag them to the street for pick up. If weather permits the young couple that seems so eager to work will be here Friday to help. It really is beginning to look like FALL!

Gloria, my mother never made fruit cake and I never liked anything with "lumps & stuff I didn't recognize", so my real first fruit cake up close... was when we lived in England. I was shocked that they started them so long before Christmas and never got over the fact that we didn't keep ANY food that long without it getting moldy so what kept the fruit cake from being stinky by Christmas??? Tells you how ignorant I am about the subject... and I still don't eat it.  :coolsmiley:

Hi Everyfriend!  Had a pretty busy day and I'm glad it's over.  Now I'm planning my activities for tomorrow.

SHIRLEY, the mixture of ingredients and the brandy that is used for aging are all preservatives for the fruit cake.  When I set mine to age, I always pick the coldest room in the house only because that's what my mother did.  She never refrigerated it or put it outside but we had some very COOL places inside and that's where the fruit cake always aged.

I have everything set out and that's my project for tomorrow morning.  And that will remove some of the clutter from my kitchen.

Thank you everyone for your support of my decision to retire.  When I told one of my favorite customers today that Dec. 1 would be my last day, she said, "I'll have to remember to look for your line every time I come shopping.  I don't want to miss a chance to say goodbye and wish you well".  I thought that was really sweet of her.

Now I'm of to Dreamland!  I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

No snow on the ground but tis chilly at 38° F. Taking the van in to get the snow tires put on first thing this morning. Then home to do odd jobs that didn't get done yesterday. I played in the sewing room and yes had more dates with Jack but finally got the quilt almost put today....now for the borders and that is it!!

Lloyd, it is so good to read that you are enjoying your scooter. That is a small part to pay to say thank you from the taxpayers for all your service ......and although I am not in the US ...thank you!!

Jane, you will enjoy your retirement to the fullest as that is how you live life. This retirement is well earned and well deserved.

Gloria, I saw roley was in was in when I scrolled down to users in.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I woke up at my usual 6 a.m. which is now 5 a.m according to the clock.  The doggies followed their own plan and woke up at the usual time.  We went out and then had their pill and I decided the waiting time was a good time to get the fruit cake started.  So the cooking part is done and it's now in the cooling stages.  I checked my BBaker's Joy" cake pan spray and it's almost empty.  So when I'm finished here, I'm getting dressed and making a flying trip to the nearest store to remedy that oversight.

It takes about a half hour to finish mixing (I have everything ready) and an hour to bake so tonight it will be set to age.  And that's one big thing off my list.

I hope you all have a lovely day!

Good morning everyone, I better not get chatty this morning, a CNA is coming at 9:30 and I woke after 7:30 so do not have much time here.

SHIRLEY  from what I have heard they out all the mess of fruitcake wrapped in cheese cloth into a tin can-like a cookie can?- and pour rum or whisky or something over it to soak in. I really don't know why it doesn't mold but guess the alcohol flavors and keeps it fresh?

JANE  you will find soon how great it is to do what  you feel like every day and no time clock to punch all the time.

LLOYD  I like when our tax money goes to vets like you. You have always been a hard worker and are an American. Better than all the lazy ones who just want every thing handed to them without ever working.

AMY  I just heard on the local weather we are in for snow Thursday night into Friday morning. Thanks for sending it down here. I most likely will sit in the window and watch it fall. I will not be out for a walk. I don't know how it would be with the rollator and my unsteady legs walking on it. The maintenance man does keep the walk clear and spreads ice melt but it would be my luck to hit a slippery place and fall.

Have a good day.

A good Tuesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

Congratulations JANE, for making the decision to retire.  I am happy for you and proud of you for taking this big change in your life!

Not much going on in our world OTHER THAN non stop thinking and talking about our future plans for the new condo.  We have to have our money in place soon, so we must make sure we know what we are going to do regarding picking our appliances and flooring.  UGH😩🤪

We are enjoying warmer temperatures right now and that sure makes me happy....sunshine makes my day perfect for me😘

Yesterday we managed to get our voting ballots turned in, I got my handicap parking sticker renewed and we both got our new driver's license renewed!  Every bit of it went quite smoothly and the people we had to deal with at all location were very pleasant and over all it was a nice experience.

GLORIA, I did see that the cold front is going to move in your direction.....I hope you will not get too much snow!

AMY, it made me smile when you said Kyle is spending time in his shop....that says a lot about how he is coming along.

Have a good rest of your day.

Jenny

Jane: Congratulations on your decision. When we decided, we found that we could "make it" on less income and it actually was healthier for us.  I did tell Don to get a hobby  - and he does small woodworking- such as, making pens.I can sew more and the best part is we can visit longer.

It's been a busy day but a good one.  I started the cooking part of the fruit cake this morning and then discovered that I was out of Baker's Joy to spray the pans.  So while it cooled I made a trip to the store and I took my last pay stub along to ask some pre-retirement questions.  Just as I was finishing, my granddaughter called to ask if I could take her to the store to pick up some things.  it was perfect timing because my store didn't have Baker's Joy so I was going to another store anyway.  I picked her up....we shopped...and I dropped her off.

When I got home, it was too late to finish mixing the fruit cake because my friend was picking me up for a movie at noon.  So I did a few other odd jobs, went to the movie and mixed the fruit cake when I came home.  It's all packed up for it's aging process and that's one job done!

I'm going to be off to Dreamland in a bit so....

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I took a nap before time to go to bed, just couldn't keep my eyes open. Ran several errands & noticed only a few maples have color, bright red, and everything else, even the cottonwoods, are basically browns. Not enough leaves on the ground to "kick leaves" yet so bagging can be put off. Kind of a quickie fall. Went down to the river tonight to talk to & feed fish. They didn't jump out of the water tonight, but certainly hungry. Will have to go to Walmart tomorrow for their bread, want to be sure to have some when that young couple comes to do the yard work on Friday afternoon. Not a very entertaining world I live in, but keeps me busy. Might have a Ding Dong & cup of coffee before heading back to bed. Tom is still out, it is above freezing so hope he doesn't get too cold, they make their own choices.

Jane, I do remember the girl next door said she put her fruit cake "in the coldest room" to age... and those cold rooms were really cold back 60+ years ago! The house we lived in the last year was 2 story & only a fireplace in the sitting room off the kitchen (scullery) for the whole house heat. Coal was still rationed & wood burned too fast to keep a fire going with just that. We didn't have a refrigerator at either place so walked to buy groceries about every day. That was barely 10 years after the end of WWII, a lifetime ago.  Sweet dreams and God Bless. Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think my body is on Eastern Standard Time.  I seem to be able to get to sleep easier and sleep better since the time change back.

ROLEY, how nice to come in this morning and see you in the Soda Shoppe.  I'm another that loves your armchair walks.  In my lifetime, I was able to have to lovely visits to your country, neither one of them long enough.  So I love going back via your posts.  Thank you for all them in the pst and I look forward to the future ones.  I'm so sorry your leg is giving you trouble and I hope it's well again soon.

I don't have much to report yet today except that we (the fur girls and I) are up and attem and ready to face another day.  It's a Wally World day so I'm hoping for happy customers and a good register.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good morning everyone..

Woke to a snow covered ground, just wish it would stay. This snow melt makes a mess and the dogs track in the mud! Oh well tis an easy clean up.
Need to do thing in the morning as this afternoon I have a hair appointment. Next Thur Babe has a bath and comb out so the girls are getting ready for winter. :)

Gloria, when the snow comes and stays it is so pretty. Love how the snow glistens on the trees . We have been feeding up to 9 mourning doves , the food is put on the ground for them.

Jane , your home is going to smell so good with the cakes cooking. I should get busy and make my cakes ,I do gum drop and cherry cakes. Have to admit you are tempting me into doing a Christmas cake too!

Shirley, how is the leg? I see you took a walk to the river, did it bother your leg?

Roley, nice to see your post and I am sorry you are having trouble with the other leg now. Please take it easy and I hope you soon mend.

Jenny, it makes my heart smile to see Kyle tackle the little things around home. I noticed he put the picnic table way for the winter. He has it on wheels so it is easy to move for grass cutting so he put it over by the fence standing it on end.

CArol, I just have a little over 300 pieces to put together on this quilt and I am done. Don't think I will attack a piano key border any time soon!!

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, yea the sun is shining this morning and 35°. We had rain all day yesterday and in the afternoon it poured. Just  heard the snow for Thursday night into Friday might be rain instead but going to be in the 20's. Oh well we can expect freezing weather before too long.  Don't think I would like to live where winters were mild or warm. Every thing outside is covered in frost this morning.

LLOYD  have a great day.

JENNY  the snow the weather guessers have talked about might not happen, a bit early for it here.

CAROL  I remember you talking about Don making pens a few years ago. Bet they are all one of a kind and beautiful. I worked at ATCross and could never see why they were so expensive, they didn't write any better than the cheap pens. Sure supposed to be gold but scratch them and you see junk underneath the gold color.

JANE  if I could make anything I would try and make a fruit cake for oldest son, he sure loves them. What movie did you see yesterday?

SHIRLEY  I remember when I was young the only heat in the house was the old cast iron stove in the kitchen, we slept in cold bedrooms but we had a lot of warm wool blankets.

ROLEY  so good seeing your post. Miss you when you don't show up. You do not have to send your wonderful walks but we do enjoy them. As long as you come in and say hello we know you are with us. Sorry about your leg but glad you have help. I would be lost without the CNA I get every day.

JANE  just think you will not have to worry about a good register and happy customers soon. Are you counting the days already? I remember when I went to the office at work and told them I was retiring, that was on the day of my 65th birthday. The first month I was no longer working all I did was sleep. I was worn out.

AMY  like you I love seeing the newly fallen snow before it gets walked on and the trees sparkle in the sunlight like they are covered in diamonds.

Have a good day.

All is well here.  The sun is shining now and then with the occasional cloud dimming it.

Trying to decide if I want to get out today.  I have to be out tomorrow to tend to end of the year financial stuff.  I think I might stop at our new library that just opened on Sunday.  It is a two story Regional Library and cost 10.7 million dollars to build.  We have a wonderful library system in Wake County that includes 22 libraries, several large regional libraries and the rest are community libraries, with more being built every year.  When we moved here in 1984 there were 7 libraries n the county.  This area has grown so large.  In some ways that is good because we have so many services close by that we used to have to go into Raleigh for.  But, along with that comes more congestion and much more traffic!  Cary has run out of land to expand so now they are building up.  Adding taller buildings in the older parts of town and "gentrifying" the older neighborhoods.  We are changing so much and so fast.

I must get breakfast.  I hear David is up and moving around so I must get the day started.

Jane, I made my decision to retire 18 months ahead of time.  I took some cross-section paper and marked off 18 squares and put a number in each.  At the end of each month, I would cut off one of the squares.  I did not tell anyone of my plans until I got to the last month.  Retiring was one of the best decisions I ever made.

MARY ANN, I'm beginning to think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, too.  The only thing I will REALLY miss is the customers!  I don't know if it's just my line or if it's WM customers.  They're the greateest.  Today, when I told someone I would be retiring Dec. 1 he said, "What days do you work?"  I told him I work Mon, Wed, and Fri mornings.  He said, "I hope I can remember to do my shopping on those days!"  He's one of my regulars!

4 down and 40 to go!

Jane, I've been retired 33 years now and I still get together in nice weather with four other company retirees - which amounts to summer months.  I have given up other groups, but not my retiree friends.  And, since I no longer drive, Tom goes with me but sits apart from us.  You may find yourself doing the same - or similar.

I'm so happy for you that you made the decision.

Good morning everyone, 35° this morning and just heard a new weather report. Will be in the 20's tomorrow night and we are back into the snow tonight. This is the third weather report for tonight into tomorrow. Snow then rain and now a few flakes. Will wait like years past to see what it is like in the morning when I first look out.

LLOYD  good luck to you in court.

PHYLLIS  we have 2 libraries in this town, a new one just around the corner from where I live. I have not been in it but have been told it is big and wonderful. We have a "library" here in this building with a lot of books and those are what I have been reading. People in here buy books and after reading them they put them in there, need more shelves because they are piling up all over the room. Some hard cover but mostly paperbacks.

JANE  hours? That is only a week left ;) My daughter and her husband retired the same day, she is 5 days older than him.

MARY ANN  I had been out of work with bronchitis and was released by the doctor to go back to work. Well it was the day of my 65th birthday and I went into work but went into the office and told them I was going to retire. I still was not feeling too great and did not think I would be able to be on my feet all day. Glad I did. That was 23 years ago.

AMY  I beat you in this morning!!!!

Have a great day to all who come in later.

Good morning everyone...
Woke to a white covered ground, one of these days it will stay!

Nothing important on the agenda today just jobs about the house. Nice to get my hair cut, last time I was there was April so it was time.

Lloyd , prayers for you and Nancy  that you win .

Gloria, yes you did beat me. I was snuggled down and having a good sleep! Tis 22° here this morning. To the west of us they have 6 inches of snow!

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm late getting here.  I've been up to my eyeballs in bill paying.  Frankie is coming over later to "hang out" with me and I can't do anything that takes thinking when I want to visit so I did the thinking first.  Seems no matter how much thought you put into paying the bills, they still want money!

GLORIA, I already told myself it was really only a good weeks worth of work.  Sounds easy, right?

I guess I better get dressed and ready to meet Frankie.  Wonder if she wants to go to the store with me.  I still need a few things.

I wish you all a lovely day!

We have snow this morning but I can't measure it in inches yet - maybe two inches?  I know my deck furniture has snow on it and I can't cover them with snow.  We are at 26 degrees now.  Even though it's still November, do you think winter has arrived here?

Jane, the time will just fly by and you'll be retired before you know it.  Does anyone give you a farewell coffee or party?  It was traditional when I retired and maybe still is that there be a farewell coffee for the retiree.  I don't remember if the donuts were charged to the company or not, but it was "coffee and donuts" and a gift was given.  I received a mantel clock with Westminster chimes and it is still working 33 years later.

Good Morning,

It's a cold, wet, raw day in central Oklahoma. Temperature just above freezing and wind chill in the teens.  Not supposed to get out of the 30's all day.  Morning news reported slick roads farther west.  My street looks okay but I'm not going out to test it or any others.

Miss Ellen reports lots of snow in The Dells, Wisconsin.  Hope that doesn't affect the "Holly Jolly Christmas" opening night tomorrow night.  The theater posted a Facebook video of the opening number dress rehearsal.  Miss Ellen wasn't "featured" but she's "front and center" in the group.  Unfortunately, the web site doesn't have the video so I can't provide a link.

Roley,  the armchair walk of Abingdon Abbey looks so interesting.  I plan to watch it when I have a bit more time to sit at the computer.

Washer is "yoo-hooing".  TTYL

Roley:  I will look at the site of Abingdon Abbey later, thank you.  I worked for an airline company that sent me to Washington, DC and lived in Abingdon, Virginia.  Not many people know of that place - apparently George Washington attended church as I saw that reminder.

A Minnesota cousin and wife are visiting another cousin this week and we will have a little meeting at least one day.

We signed on to save money and save the planet apparently as well - it is an effort to not use much electricity during prime hours.  For instance, using the dishwasher after 9 PM.

MARY ANN, I've made some good friends at my job at WM but most of them are a lot younger than me and will probably be working there or somewhere else for many years yet.  However, I still have good friends from my office job at Pennsylvania House Furniture Co.  and we get together once a month for lunch.  Then there is a larger group from the same place but lots of different offices who gather about  4 times a year for dinner.  I'll make an effort to keep those times.  I also have a group of school friends who graduated with me and we gather for breakfast once a month.  I really enjoy these get togethers.

I made a great dinner today!  I just put some bite size pieces of chicken to cook in my little crock pot and when they were pretty well done I added rice and some oriental spices and let it simmer until I was ready to eat it.  It turned out pretty good.  And there's enough for several meals.

I'll be off to bed in a little while so I'll bid you all "Good night".  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I am still alive and kicking, but not much to report.

Baby Jonah turned 11 months old yesterday....not sure how that many months have already passed.  He is a very active boy, walking all over the place and getting into everything.  He babbles like crazy and seems to be carrying on a full conversation🤣🤣

ROLEY, I enjoyed your "Armchair Walk" on Abingdon  Abbey.  Thank you for sharing this with us.

I have not seen a post from you SHIRLEY.  I do hope you are doing OK.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Snow in places from yesterday and we are to get more today and Sat. Nothing on the agenda other than putz about the house. Have some drawers that need rearranging so that might be today.

Roley, thank you for the stroll. Really enjoyed it.

Callie, I enjoyed your video  of Miss Ellen and I would dearly love to be in front seat watching the whole show!

Jenny, time seems to go so fast anymore. I bet he is a real cutie! Joy is also missing..

Have a great day everyone..

Good morning everyone, a whole 26° now and not going  out of the 30's today. When I pulled up the shades this morning and loo out the ground is dry. So much for the weather guessers and their expensive tools to tell us the weather we will get. Still better to look outside and see for ourselves.

AMY  I was hoping to see a bit of white here this morning and I don't mean frost either.

JANE  I always worked a full time job and overtime a lot so what is a week, right? For you it is about  3 more weeks, right? :) Hope you had a fun day with Frankie.

MARY ANN  my last  job the had a going away party in the cafeteria. I never gave then a chance. After I went into the office and retired I went to the department I worked in to say good bye to my co-workers.

ROLEY  I enjoyed both videos of the Abby. Must have been a huge church when it was there. A shame to see something like that destroyed. Thank you so much for finding such interesting places in England.

JENNY  like you I cannot believe my little great grandson is now  years old already. I remember holding him when he was only 2 weeks old.

AMY  we have snow in the forecast for Tuesday, will not hold my breath till then.  JOAN got it right when she started calling the forecasters Weather
guessers.

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for a good hour now.  The doggies went out once and are asking for seconds now.  I ground up the chicken I cooked for their food and made food for them.  They've eaten and are restless.  So this will be short.

ROLEY, I too enjoyed your Armchair Walk.  I love seeing the old buildings and the small towns in England.  I'd love to be able to do those walks in person but doing them your way is a real pleasure.  I always look forward to them.  Thank you for finding them and sharing them with us.

I'll have to be getting ready for work soon.  I'm on a 9-1 today and that will be another one down.

Frankie and I had a fun day and when I dropped her off in front of her apartment house, I told her, "It's always fun to have company...even if they take a nap while they're here."  She laughed and told me it's easier to sleep at my house because there isn't anything demanding her attention.  True!

PHYLLIS, I've had two minor attacks of vertigo in the last few days, both when I was getting out of bed.  I remembered the PT instructions the last time and I rolled over on the other side and eased myself up this morning and I didn't have on today although when I woke up I felt the start of it.  She said it's caused by the way I sleep.  I can't change that but I can change the way I get up.

I guess I better go take the girls out and then get myself ready for work.

I wish you all a lovely day

Sorry about the dizziness, Jane.  Not fun.  I always have to get up from bed slowly, make sure I'm steady on my feet before I move away from the bed.  The dizzy spell happens when I lie down, too, but it passes in a few moments.  It always embarrasses me when I have to lie back so far to get my hair shampooed because I have to fight the dizziness.  Lately I've been washing my hair at home before I go for a haircut.  Full blown vertigo with room spinning around, unfortunately doesn't pass as quickly.  That can last from several minutes to days, sometimes.  I'm very grateful that I haven't had that for a few days now.

Our high temp. for today is supposed to be around 50 deg.  Really chilly for us.  The sun is shining brightly now so it is a pretty day.

I managed to get out to the broker yesterday to take care of end-of-year stuff.  It took longer than I expected so didn't have time to stop and look at our new library.  It is big and beautiful but not as easy for me to get into as our smaller old library was.  The only parking is in an adjacent parking deck with a longer walk under a covered walk-way into the library.  It isn't difficult for most people but for disabled users it is a bit of a challenge.  I plan to try again when I don't have other errands to tend to first.

Grocery shopping today and then back home to rest and relax, I think.

Roley, I enjoy your armchair walks, too.  When my husband and I visited England and Scotlad we walked around many of the ruined abbeys.  There was always a feeling of peaceful calm for me in them.  I didn't feel that ghosts were walking there but did feel the weight of history in each place.

I will be thinking of you today, Lloyd, and really hoping for a good outcome for you and Nancy.

Take care, All.

Good morning on this pretty sunny morning, but it is very cold.  I have the thermostat pushed up until it gets warmer.

I had a rough morning yesterday.  I had some skin cancers removed from my face and I look like I have been in a fight.  Everything went well, but I look terrible and therefore, feel terrible.  Two big bandages and several places where she froze.  I won't be going anywhere for a while.

I did not sleep very well, so since I do not plan on going anywhere, I am thinking about going back to bed.

I did not even get on the computer yesterday, at all.  I did not go back and read any of the previous posts.  Just hope everyone is doing well, and keeping warm, if you are in those colder areas. They are calling for some snow early next week. Not looking forward to that.

I just wanted to mark my place and I will try to write more the next time.

Have a great day.

Joy

It is a chilly one here this morning.  At 8 am, my trusty thermometer read 17 degrees and the other visible one read 20 degrees.  The last one now reads 31 degrees but it is in the sun which is why it is not my trusty one.  The sun is shining brightly and I think we'll have a nice, but cold, day.

I am not prone to dizziness, but I know it's possible.  My dentist is always on the alert to warn me when I get out of the chair.  And one day I was dizzy.  It surprised me and it was soon gone.  I know dizziness is no fun.

Phyllis, I am starting to collect necessary stuff for taxes.  I do my own with the help of Turbo Tax.  I do have investments but I have nothing unusual otherwise.

Lloyd, good luck today.

Gloria, I was given a coffee at my retirement and it was good to see so many people come.  At noon, my two bosses took me out to lunch and that was it.  I had 15 minutes after I got home, wondering if I had done the right thing and at the end of the 15 minutes, I decided I had done the right thing.  I've never looked back in 33 years.  I wonder if that is what has allowed me to live to be 95?  Norm used to say he never had seen such a happy retiree as I was.  Still am.

Well, fooey... had a long post ready & not sure what happened but the page flipped to something else & MY POST did not get posted!  I tried the back arrow but no retrieving it.

Joy, I was telling you that Cas had those cancers removed every 6 months & the guys he played golf with in the same boat so they never stopped going to play golf. Smart lady getting them taken care of! Hugs, though, bet they sting.

Lloyd, glad you are satisfied with the way everything turned out and nice that you could shake hands when over. Expect all will sleep better tonight.

Peter, thanks so much for the link, love it. I got to watch the first part but will see the rest later tonight. I can't sit at the computer very long or this bum knee starts locking up & then doesn't want to straighten out when I stand. Sure had changed my life in a hurry!

I did get the 3 smoke alarm batteries replaced today, not easy as they were all different models.

Supposed to get up to 72° tomorrow. Got the young couple coming to work on the yard & also vac up the spiders that build webs all over the brick & under eves outside. They build around one particular light fixture & zap it out... it was a new fixture this spring, LED so supposed to last a long time. It went out a week or so ago & I do miss it. I can see the whole pool area at a glance when it's on.

Bedtime in Kansas.... wishing all sweet dreams, God Bless.  Shirley

Will have the laundry done and out on the line if possible.

Bubble ,thank you for the tip.

Better get laundry started.

Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up but I'm not sure if I'm ATTEM yet!  I think I'll play this one by ear.  If I feel like it, I'll do it!

The doggies are waiting out the boinger and Annie has already told me she thinks it's slow this morning.  It's really hard for her to wait.  She thinks she knows what time it is and she doesn't mind telling me so.

I have some financial things to deal with this morning and since the money is scarce, it's going to take some time to figure out who gets paid and who waits.  But that's always been the story of my life so I'll figure it out.

We have a "plethora" of feral cats living in an abandoned house nearby.  They are leaving their "calling cards" all over everyone's yards and those of us with dogs are getting a little ticked off.  SHIRLEY, I apologize for these feelings but when 30 plus cats are allowed to run free and do their jobs wherever the feel like it and I have to take my dogs out in my own fenced yard on leashes there's definitely something wrong here.

No one seems to know what to do about it except the young girl across the street who goes over there with food and milk EVERY day...sometimes twice a day!  They'll never go away and the township has told at least two people that there is nothing they can do about it.

Boinger is goin off so I'll stop complaining and go feed the doggies.

I wish you all a lovely day!

Good morning every one a brisk 21° now at 6:30. When I think of when I was working I went out every morning in weather like this in the winter. Of course I was younger and had more pounds on my body to help hold heat in and moved a lot faster than I can now. Just wondering if it is this cold now how cold will it get when winter gets here.

JANE  4  hours down yesterday and only  40 more to go. Only a normal full work week. Yippee.

LLOYD  sunny here this morning and the roof of this building is white with frost. rather see snow than frost like this. I hope things went great for you yesterday.

PHYLLIS  when I used to go to the hair dresser I always told them not to get me too flat for the shampoo and my dentist and the lady who cleans my teeth also does not put the chair flat. I don't get dizzy but always feel like i am going upside down and cannot take that feeling.

JOY  ouch but better than them spreading. My SIL has had some removed and has more to be done. He is very far with blond hair and always spent a lot of time in the California sun and now the Arizona sun. My daughter kept telling him to put sunblock on but was too much work so now he does put some on before he goes out and every time he goes in the house puts more on before going out.

MAY ANN  I never liked having a fuss made over me and I never let my co-workers even get a card for me. I just went into the office and then went and said my goodbyes.

LLOYD  hooray, so glad you had a good judge at that trial and your once good friend lost. Just be careful who you trust from now on. Best friends can turn on a person they think they can take every thing you own.

SHIRLEY  have you still got  Cox? Have  they started upgrading there? Mine was upgraded a couple of weeks ago and I have had problems since. Even getting hard to send email, have to type all the addresses in now and I don't remember all of them. Good thing I have a folder on the desk top with all of them in. The box is different and so is the remote. It is smaller and has Contour in it so you can tell it to change the channel.

AMY  loo like you have a busy time planned for today, Enjoy every minute of it. They have a fair in this town every fall and I have a SIL who sets up every year. She has a lot of material about the history of this town and she almost sells out every year.

JANE  when I moved here t here were a lot of cats around. The maintenance man's wife volunteers at the pound and got them to cage the cats and fix them and clip an ear, bring them back and release them, no more kittens and now there are only a few around.

Have a good day.

Gloria, I remember getting out in all sorts of weather when I was young, but I'm 30 years older now.  But I also don't walk as good as I used to and I don't drive so I grin and bear it.  I wondered in Norm's B&T this morning if we are setting cold records now, what can we expect in January?  Brr!

I don't like fusses made over me, but I didn't have a choice.  Even now, some people celebrate certain birthdays at church after a service, but not I!  I had those memorable birthdays with my family, not with church members.

Jane, should the young girl who feeds the feral cats be told to stop?  It's a nice gesture, but 30 cats is too much.  Shirley has only three cats and she gets a lot of pleasure from those cats and they are almost domesticated.  It sounds as if the 30 cats are not that tame.  I don't know, asking the girl to stop could create more problems, but they'd have to find their food elsewhere.  I have all I can handle with one cat!

Jane, had to laugh, not just grin, at your complaints about the cats. For sure when we first moved here & noticed feral cats hanging around, we knew it was a good thing because they kept the mice down. When a mama showed up that the coldest winter with 3 babies, and would eat the dry bread we fed the ducks & geese, we felt sorry for them & put out "scraps" of food. We gave up trying to find homes (even if we had to trap them), no "shelter" takes feral cats. We bought a trap & would call Animal Control to pick up, knowing they would be put to sleep that day. I cried every time. Later we admitted that we had both freed the runt of the litter... so tiny & terrified of everything. and we didn't know that she was already pregnant until later. Vet said we had to let her have the babies & then get her fixed. By that time she had fallen in love with my husband & followed him around the yard like a dog. One day she disappeared and when she came back a day or so later, she was skinny and lay around the pool the whole day, crying like a real human. Lady on the next street over said she saw some babies one day & next day found a huge snake in the same spot. The vet was shocked that she had babies and so tiny.

After he did her surgery & said she should just go on outside like normal. She would come inside & like any well trained dog, when she needed to "relieve herself" she would go to the door to go outside. She never had one accident in the house, even though she started spending nights inside. When she was a few years older she had something cause a tear on her back, long story, but I thought I was taking her to the vet to be put to sleep & he convinced me she could be fixed. I have the photo of her stitches & shaved off back.

Next day when I went to pick her up the vet insisted she stay in the cage, was large enough to put a small litter box in it & he guaranteed she would use that litter box by the 3rd day.  She did and from that time on, she would go outside for the day & come to the door to come inside to use the litter box... guess she figured she'd better or might have to go through another surgery!

Shirley, I love your cat stories - past cats and present.  Kendrick does nothing that would compare with your feral cats.  I see a stray cat around here occasionally but I don't think they're feral, just house cats that someone lets out.  I do not see them often.

There are times I wish I did not have Kendrick but I know I'd miss him if he were not here.  If Annie had a place of her own, she'd have him, but he'd get about the same treatment he gets here because she works all day and he'd be alone.  Here, he is not alone, but I can't play with him as he needs.  Right now, Kendrick is resting in between a couple pieces of furniture where the sun shines.

There are big whitecaps at Grand Haven and a kite is flying.  Good weather for that.

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND! It is going to be a beautiful day here, in the 70's then tomorrow a storm moves in with cold and snow😡😡. We hope to accomplish a lot while the day is so nice, but then understand it is college football day and Bob does ❤️❤️ his 🏈!

I have really been enjoying the posts....you all have been doing great at posting!

I have noticed several of you stated that you would not like to see the SS and Norm's Bait and Tackle join together as one folder, however I would find it better as I post in both and know that sometimes I post things in here that I read in the other one, and etc.  sadly, there are so few of us anymore that I do not see it as being that much more to read for 5hose that only post in one or the other!  I think this discussion WAS in the B & T folder😤🤪. Just my thought!

OK, I must get busy.  Have a great rest of your day.

Jenny, I posted a similar message in Norm's B&T that I prefer the two folders be separate.  I do post in both places, but I find the subject matters are different in the folders.  This had not entered my mind, but I would hate to lose Norm's name for a folder and I know many would prefer to keep SS.

I just had a visit from Tom's DIL and his granddaughters who will be three in February.  They talk up a storm and I can understand some of what they say.  They are very well behaved and we've noticed when all of us are out to eat that they almost never cry or whine.  I think the fact they have each other for company contributes to that.  They are not over-indulged by grandparents because none of them live close.  James and Alicia live in Holland, Tom is here, Sue is north of Traverse City (way north) and Alicia's folks live in Milwaukee.

Boy, do I need a nap!

Good Afternoon,

 It's been a Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood  and I spent more than an hour this morning filling the bird feeders, sweeping up leaves on the patio and scooping them into a trash bin,  and putting away hoses and some small pots.
Surprisingly, I wasn't all that tired when I finished and I think all the moving around was good for my squeaks and creaks.

The unit across the street is for sale and I noticed a sign on the lawn announcing Open House tomorrow  Afternoon.  So I went to Walgreen's - in case I couldn't get in my driveway if I tarried after church.

Owner of For Sale unit was in the garage there when I came home and I went over to see how they're liking the retirement place where they moved.  (They like it a lot).  We ended up visiting for almost half an hour.

So it's not only been a productive day but also a socializing one.

That's it from this corner.

Well, today I made Callie's Sliders!  They are scrumptious!  However, I had to make a few minor changes.  First of all, the slider buns that I bought are made by a bakery called Maiers out Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.  That's what the store had.  Then, when I got all the stuff out to make them I had the ham slices and the swiss cheese but the other meat I had was Lebanon Bologna (also a product of PA.  It originated in Lebanon, PA.) And the other cheese I had was one called Jumpin' Jack.  It had a little hot stuff in it.  The mustard was Honey Mustard but it was Amy's Hot Mustard with honey in it.  So maybe I can't say they're Callie's Sliders but PA version of Callie's Sliders.  Anyway, they were deeeeelicious!  And I'm sure I'll make them again.  I shared them with my friend, Mavis because she didn't grow up in PA and when I mentioned Lebanon Bologna, she didn't know what I was talking about.  Now she will.

That an a load of laundry and sweeping the porch are about all I did all day.  I also took two short naps and took the doggies for a couple of walks.

SHIRLEY, the dash blasted cats have decided to use the mulch in my gardens for litter boxes which is the reason I have to take the dogs for leash walks in their own yard.  The mulch has become a drawing card for the dogs and I don't like that.  I used to be able to let them out and not worry about what they were doing, just go out and clean up after them.  Now I have to keep them tied to my side.  It just seems like the township should be able to do something.  And I'm thinking if I see that girl go over there with her food another time, I'll have to run out and trip her.

Tomorrow, I have to find my garden gloves and start raking leaves.  The last of them are on the ground.  I stood out there yesterday and it was like it was raining leaves on me from the last holdout.  They just kept coming down

I'm one who hopes the Soda Shoppe stays as it is and gets more posters.  I wish we could advertise for new people.  There must be people out there who would like to do this kind of thing.

Now it's time to wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Bedtime but watching a movie I've seen before & can't remember the end!!! I'm listening, anyway. I can't sit long so will go to bed soon.

Gloria, I do still have Cox with all it's problems. May drive me nuts eventually but from all I hear, AT&T isn't any better in this area. I quit the cable TV so just phones & wi-fi & both cut off constantly. I really don't think I can handle having them upgrade or de-grade one more time.

Mary Ann, you would miss Kendrick so much if you gave him up now. I really don't know what I'd do without these fur people to talk to, and I do talk to them like humans, surprising how many words they understand.

Well, can't believe I have another battery going out & not sure if it's a portable phone or the clock above (battery powered). This has a louder honk than the 9v smoke alarms but too close together to catch which it is... they never beep when you are waiting for them, do they?  I replaced the batteries in the clock not too long ago but when I did, don't know how I did it, but an alarm goes off every morning at 6:00 am... and it yells for a full minute so figured the batteries would wear down faster than the normal year. It is called an "atomic" clock & gets it's time from a satellite (so I'm told) but does also have days of the week & indoor/outdoor temps. I can't get the outdoor part to work right last couple years.  As my father used to say, "the more stuff you have the more stuff can go bad!"

Callie, guess tomorrow will be cooler but the bottom drops out tomorrow night & Monday. Think it's heading your way. Was shirt sleeve weather here today, was working out in the yard & got hot. The couple came to cut tall grass & that worked into raking leaves & such, running leaves through the shredder.... & since his wife was supposed to be the other pair of hands to get the job done, and "she wasn't feeling well" so sat in the pick up the entire 2 hours... I did her work. Still can't figure why she bothered coming along instead of staying home... unless she wanted time away from the kids. When we finished the jobs needed most I asked him if he didn't want to stop with 2 hours instead of the 4 I'd planned on... the agreement was 4 hours work that could be 2 hours for 2 people. Either way I'd planned to pay $80... but since he only worked 2 hours I gave him $40 & told him "I don't pay for her to sit in the vehicle." Not sure I'll be having them back again. I am disappointed, he is a hard worker but not sure what to make of her.

By the way, Jane, when the powers that be in this city told me that "if YOU FEED the cats, we consider them yours and if they scratch someone it will be YOUR responsibility to have them quarantined for rabies, etc..."  And that is why we allowed Animal Control to take the cats away that we weren't willing to have fixed & rabies shots every year. Old LaurenKat was 18 when she got out in CO & do hope she died & didn't suffer, nothing I could do about it. She was the first that adopted us. Cas was so limited in what he could do by the time the others came along, I just made it happen because they gave him so much pleasure, I didn't think about having to take them with me after he was gone. I do think the city should come up with laws to protect property owners from wildlife breeding out of control & people making it possible to extend their natural life. I hated seeing them starving but knew we couldn't adopt them all. Right now we don't see any others in the neighborhood & the 3 I feed are "fixed".

SHIRLEY, the girl that's feeding them will never take any of them into her house.  She owns a large Golden Retriever.  But as long as that abandoned house stands and she feeds them they'll stay there and breed and that's not fair to anyone...including the cats.  There must be something that can be done.

Jane,  the PA version of the sliders sounds delicious!  I should call my directions a "Suggestion" instead of a "Recipe" because it really doesn't matter what you put between the buns or what kind of mustard you use.  So glad you tried them and like them.  :smitten:

Shirley,  the HOA takes care of general yard work and the leaves should be blown away and picked up the next time the workers come.  If Monday's forecast is right - the ones out in the yard and still on the trees will end up on the patio and I needed to tidy things up a bit, anyway.

I've been watching the OU/Iowa State game in bits and pieces. Last time I looked, it was the 4th quarter and they were ahead.  Off to see if they stay that way.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm just marking my place for later.  The doggies have had their pill and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast but I have to get my shower before that boinger goes off so I'll be ready for church in time.

Thanks, CALLIE for the vote of confidence and the RECIPE.  I would never have tried them if you handn't posted it.  Now I have something easy and delicious to have on hand.  I'm going to try them out on Frankie the next time she stops by.  If your grands like them, maybe mine will too.

Be back later!

Good morning everyone..
Yesterday was fun met  a lot of folks I know and even my neighbour was there selling her Pampered Chef! Came home and loaded the clothes line again, first they freeze dry then the wind blows them dry. Tell people I use my solar dryer.

Today is a day of rest but I will do  my apricot fruit cake

Jane you made my mouth water with Callie's sliders.....will have to stop for the ingredient today. Jane can you call an animal control officers to deal with this problem?

Shirley, I know how difficult it can be to find the right alarm. Just when you think you have the right one it goes off in another area. Good advice to Jane about the cats, maybe that might stop the lady from feeding them. You pay for what was done and by whom..no work , no pay..

Jenny, please keep your snow. I am so happy with no dances yet..

Gloria, it was a nice day out yesterday, even bought a spray bottle of ointment that is to help neuropathy  and other pains so we shall see.

Callie between you and Jane you have me humming It's a Nice day and Get to the Church on Time. .

Better move it

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning everyone, this is the latest I have slept is several weeks, almost 8 hours with not waking all night. Feels good this morning. 33° now but cloudy. Yesterday when I went outside it felt warm, sun shining and no wind so it felt so nice out, was just above freezing then but without the wind chill it was a good time to walk around.

MARY ANN  without my rollator or the kitchen counters to hold onto I would not be able to walk with a cane.

SHIRLEY  if not for the lady here who volunteers at the pound getting the ones in charge trapping the feral cats and fixing them and clipping an ear there are no more baby feral cats around. Only a few left now and they are skittish around people and if the witch sees any food put out for them she sends a notice around forbidding anyone from feeding them because the food will draw rodents. As it is we have a river flowing down the bank in back of this property. We have never seen a mouse around with the feral cats around.

JENNY  at times I am so glad I live alone, I do not have to listen to football, baseball or hockey on TV. I never was into those sports.

CALLIE  glad you were not sore after all you did the other day. Nice to do some outside work on a warm day.

JANE  there are a few in here with computers and I have told them about our "home and family" here and invited them to come in and look around and possibly join but none are interested. I am always happy when we see a new name here or someone who posts seldom but posts elsewhere. Like you, keep the SS as it is.

SHIRLEY  the Cox man who installed the new box said the old ones are obsolete now. This is the first time I think this has happened. I know all these senior housing places have Cox and we cannot have any other carrier. They sure have a monopoly.

AMY  always nice getting out and meeting people. Hope that ointment helps you. I know that Hempvana has helped my back a lot. Don't have the constant pain anymore and that makes me feel happy.

LLOYD  I am ready to go and cook my oatmeal. Been sitting here long enough to get hungry.

Have a good day.

Hello-o-o-o-o!  I think there's and echo in here!  No one's been here since GLORIA this morning at 9:30.  How do I know what to say if there's no one around to talk to?

I made more fruit cake today but this time it doesn't have any candied fruit in it.  It has dates, crushed pineapple and maraschino cherries in it.  I don't know how it is but my daughter, Cathy said that it's the candied fruit that she doesn't like and that same day, I ran across this recipe and decided to try it.  It looks delicious.  I just took it out of the oven and it's cooling on the racks in the pans.  I have to go take it out of the pans and brush it with corn syrup.  Then we shall see!

I hope you are all having such a good day that you just didn't have time to come by and say "hello".  Keep it up!  But don't forget this place or we might not have it.

Jane, I haven't made a fruitcake in years and I did make mine with citron in it.  I liked it and gave some away so I don't know how it went over with others.  What you put in your fruitcake sounds similar to that of the Collin Street Bakery in Texas.  Their fruitcakes are expensive, but the ingredients you put in yours are not cheap.  The Collin Street cakes have pecan halves on top.  You might go to their site to see what they put in their cakes - they have several varieties.  I am not suggesting you buy one, although I have in the past - just for comparison.

MARY ANN, my regular fruit cake, the one I've been making most of my life and the one my mother made before me and passed down the recipe, also has candied fruit (citron) in it.  That's done and aging.  This one doesn't have to age.  When it's finished, it's finished. I made six small loaves.  My plan is to take one over to Cathy's on Saturday when the kids are all there and see if they like it. I'm going to freeze the rest of them and if the verdict is good on Saturday, they'll each get one for Christmas.  I know none of them like the regular old fashioned one.  This new one also has pecans and dates in it.  And you brush it with corn syrup (Karo) while it's cooling.  I thought that would make it sticky but it just made it shiny.  I might have to cut one before Saturday.  It looks delicious.

I'll be off to bed soon.  I wish Everyfriend and peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I posted a photo of Callie taking on the pit bull next door. I was laughing so hard I couldn't get the phone out of my pocket to catch all the action. Dog always comes to the corner of the fence to bark at the cats when we go down to the river.. & I was surprised tonight when we came back up Callie went to the corner to sniff.. so must have been some animal around she needed to check on. Anyway, dog came running to the fence & she looked up, put her ears back & swatted at it. It looked shocked & backed up...she stood her ground & it backed up more. She even stepped through the fence & checked the grass on that side & I was yelling at her to come back. I was afraid dog would realize it is MUCH bigger than she is & pick her up, but it stayed away in disbelief. How dare that cat!!! Anyway, photo over in Photos if you want to see it. When I send from my phone the file gets small so not very good.  She is one tough little cookie.

Good morning everyone, 37° this morning. supposes to be warmer today, hope so, would like to sit out in the sun for awhile later.

JANE  your new fruit cake sounds like something I would eat. It is the candied fruit I dislike. I do like the cherries and pineapple and dates. If I thought I could make it I would make a fruitcake for my son. I know it would make him happy. I would want your recipe if I could make it. I know I now seem to post only in the morning and don't get back in the evening. By that time of day I am ready for bed and laying on the couch watching the tube. At times I doze and suddenly am watching a different show on the TV.

MARY ANN  all the fruit cakes I have seen are expensive. With all that is in them it  is expensive to make, too.

SHIRLEY  I know some cats will protect their "territory" and go after any critter that interferes.

LLOYD  I had a good sleep last night but woke too early again.

JANE  I am with you. You, Mary Ann and Lloyd are the only ones since I posted yesterday.

Come on posters WHERE ARE YOU?

Have a good day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Today is a WM day!  I guess I won't be saying that much longer.  The doggies have had their pills and we're waiting for the boinger for breakfast.

GLORIA, if you lived down the street, I'd share the new fruitcake with you and your loving son.  Sometimes the distance between us seems great and sometimes it seems like you are all right next door.

Today will be a busy one.  After work, I'll be hurrying home to tend to the doggies and then get ready for an appointment with the eye dr.  It seem Monday is the only day this new one is in this particular office so it has to be Monday or never.

I wish you all a lovely day!

well I think I am up for the day. Is Light rain here calling for change to snow. Is 30º calling for 39º for the high and accumulation of snow. after morning Meal I am going to go to shop and work on a couple of recipe Boxes. I mainly make them out of red Oak 1/2" thick. but I have some wield cherry lumber I cut from large timbers that were over a 100 years old. I think I will build a couple from it. On the front I do 5 head wheat head Pattern. I make a cube then take it to the Band saw and tilt the table to 4 degres and cut the top off making the front taller than the back of the lid. then use julery box hinges and latches and lid stop so wont get swung too far back and broke. I have always gave them away but think I am going to start selling them mostly. Have a great day see you all later. as Jane says have a great day just as you like It.

I know what a trug is!  But, I'll let Amy tell you when she gets a chance.

Amy, is Kyle making it for you or is he giving it to some one as a gift?

EDIT:  Oops!   Bubble spilled the answer.  All I will add is that some trugs are very simple and utilitarian but some are beautiful and real works of art.

The only "Christmas" cake I ever really liked was a nut cake.  White cake with all kinds of nuts in it.  It was made by a friend of mine who was born and raised in the North Carolina mountains.  I begged her for the recipe but in true "old time" Southern Cook's fashion she would never give it out to anyone.  She said it was a "family secret".  I've searched for years to find one that I thought was similar to hers and never found it.  Now it is too late because I no longer bake cakes.  My local bakery makes wonderful cakes and I'm happy to let them do the work.

Sunny today and a little warmer than yesterday but winter is coming to us this week.  Rainy and much colder tomorrow.  Of course, I have a lab appointment and have to get out in it but don't plan to stay out very long.

Remembering all of the veterans today and thanking them in my heart.

Be wary, Amy, snow is on the way.  We have the ground covered, not deep, but completely covered.  I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with the temperature; it's 27 F now.  I do have a hearing test for this afternoon but it's only a couple miles from here.  I have been trying to clear the wax from my ears for two or three days and I still think there is some in my ears.

Shirley, I saw the picture of Callie; she is so pretty.  I love calico cats.  Kendrick has the orange color and only needs a few other colors to be calico.  As it is, he's an orange cat or ginger cat.

Amy, I never heard of a trug but felt it must be some kind of container (especially since Kyle wanted to buy wood).  Lloyd's recipe boxes sound interesting, especially with the carving on them.

With Veterans Day/Armistice Day/Remembrance Day, I can say I had family participants.  My dad was in WW I and Norm was in during the Korean War.  Dad was not overseas but Norm was in Germany.  I had cousins in WW II who were all over the place.  One was on the ship Southampton when it was hit and spent some time in the water.  Another was a medic in the South Seas.  It bothers me that there is so much hatred in the world but I know it will always be that way.

Jane, isn't it fun counting the days?  I kept my plans a secret until the last month and that was fun for me.

Gloria, I notice there are a few more posters this morning - at least by the time I showed up.

Amy, I can see how your trug-to-be would save  your back.  I've never heard the term before so it must be a Canadian/English thing.

I look at ships on the St Clair River, the dividing line between Canada and the US/Michigan.  It was snowing so hard you could hardly see the ship on the river until it was even with the camera.  We do have a Winter Wonderland in Michigan.

WE HONOR WE WILL NEVER FOGET
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
 "Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
 "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
 Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
 And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
 That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
 And sometimes, God, forgive me,
 I've wept unmanly tears.
 I know I don't deserve a place,
 Among the people here.
 They never wanted me around,
 Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
 It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
 As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
 "Step forward now, you soldier,
 You've borne your burdens well.
 Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Well, Good Afternoon !

It was sure nice to see more posters when I came in here.

The "trug" sure is interesting to read about.  Amy, great that your husband is up to making you one. I can see how it would be easier on your back.  It will be nice to see the one he is making when it is finished.  Doesn't look like that one is as difficult to put together as the ones that have to have the staves curved. I love all kinds of baskets.

A friend of mine wrote a message on FB yesterday, that they had gone to a anniversary party for a friend who lived in the town where the Longaberger baskets were made.  If any of you are familiar with those baskets, the factory where they were made was shaped just like a basket.  Well, the baskets have been discontinued for a couple years now, and the building will be converted to shops, condo's and a hotel.  The Longaberger baskets have always been very popular as gifts and especially for organizations and fire halls to have Longaberger Bingo Parties.  My friend said they are not that great in demand now, and she has seen them in the Goodwill stores for $1.  I have several that I had gotten for gifts, and I really do like them. Just a little interesting story if any of you are collectors.

The places on my face are beginning to look a little better.  But, I have no place to go this week, so I will just stay close.

Jane, I would like the fruit cake that you said your mother used to make. I happen to like the candies fruits, like the citron and all the other different kind.  I like the Claxton fruit cakes from the grocery store, also.  I try to get a couple of them every year and keep them in the fridge.  Like them when they are real cold.  They are full of fruit and very little cake.   I think that I have gotten them at Wal-Mart.  They usually sell out quickly.

I have been very lazy so far today .  Don't plan on doing much.  Still have to put a few more dishes in the dishwasher and then will read and probably take a nap.   I love these lazy kind of days.

Mary Ann, they are calling for snow tomorrow, but no kind of accumulation to speak up.  Today, it is up in the 60's and looks like a pretty spring day.  Temperatures are supposed to drop by tomorrow afternoon.  Winter is sure coming quickly.

Lloyd, sounds like your property problems were solved in your favor.  I am so happy that it turned out so well.  I guess your travels will be put on hold until the weather gets warmer.

Today, there will be no mail and the banks are closed. I think the schools are open tho.  I do know that the office here where I live, is also closed.  Pretty quiet all around.

Getting to be lunchtime, so will see what I can find.  I haven't been done my breakfast too long, so not really that hungry yet.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Joy

Merry Monday,

Wind chill report on internet home page has gone from 1º to 0º and "back up" to 2º.  I'm being a Recliner Radish (my version of Couch Potato).

I don't like the citron in fruit cakes.  Pie is the usual dessert at our family  holiday dinners.

Peter, very thoughtful essay.

Amy - love the Trugs.  It will keep Kyle busy for quite  while if he does it like the workmen in the video!

Joy,etc.  I'm going to dermatologist tomorrow to see about some spots on my legs. Have had the Mohs on one leg and another couple have been frozen..  So far. I haven't had any on face or neck.

Longaberg baskets were very popular here several years ago.  Did you ever hear it pronounced "Lon-a-bear-jay" (accent on "jay)?

Had a Facebook message exchange with Miss Ellen a few minutes ago.  They don't have performances today/tomorrow so she/roomie were on their way into Madison to do errands; it's about a 45 minute drive.  She said there's snow in The Dells but roads are okay.  Audiences were small for opening weekend but she said Wednesday's is supposed to be huge.  It is early for Christmas shows but I'm guessing Senior groups will be coming to the weekday matinees.
Sounds as if the 12 cast members are having fun together.

Back to my e-books.

I just returned from a hearing test and I think it was more thorough than any I've had.  I think I did not learn anything new, but I think I will have a better deal than I've had in previous years.  I will pay a lot less than I have previously, the batteries are free for the life of the aids and service is free for the life of the aids.  The place is around the corner and down the hill from us (about two miles, maybe five minutes) so that is convenient too.  I told Tom that when/if he needs hearing aids, he should go there.

Our snow has quit, at least for a while but there is plenty on the ground.  I haven't looked at the eastern side of the state yet.  I hope things clear up enough by the weekend so we can drive to Portland MI to see the new boy in our family.

I hear someone shoveling our porch stoop.

Joy, I did not know Longaberger baskets were no longer being made.  I love baskets but none of what I have are Longabergers.  Isn't it interesting how things go out of style.  I read in the news section how the millennials are being blamed for many things to be discontinued - stores, foods, products - because they do not use them.  It will be an entirely different world in another generation.

Mycheal, a very timely poem; thank you.

Tomereader..one can plant vegetables and or plants/flowers. It saves the back breaking work of planting on the ground.

My eyes are still a bit dilated from the dr visit so I think I'll go  to bed early.  I can't even see what I'm typing so forgive any errors.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Just for fun, I've been waking up every morning with vertigo.  The last time this happened they sent me to a therapist and I do remember what she told me to do and I'm doing it.  It does seem to help but every morning it's taking longer.  I think it's time to seethe dr. again.  It does go away eventually but taking the doggies for that first walk in the morning is becoming an ordeal.  And leaning back to put drops in my eyes isn't possible.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

Good morning everyone..

The snow has stopped  and we didn't get much! Maybe 1 1/2 inches of light snow, which is enough.  Kyle is out dancing with the shovel . My appointment isn't until 10 with the RMT. Then home to clean and bag up the cakes from yesterday plus oatmeal cookies were made for the "boss".

Bubble, thank you.

Jane, hope you get some relief for that. I found even walking was difficult and I didn't drive either. The trug will make gardening a lot easier for me. I really enjoy playing in the dirt and this will help.

Lloyd, I am thinking some straw ,leaves compost in the bottom and then good top soil in it. Think the plants/seeds might like that.

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone. 46° to start the day. OK we have snow in the forecast for this afternoon, going to start as light rain. Might have a dusting to half an inch on grassy areas. Then tonight we are going into the deep freeze with temperatures in the mid teens.

JANE  most places were closed here yesterday. This state does remember Veterans (Armistice) Day. Lot of parades and celebrations for veterans. At the veterans cemetery here they had a  big "do" and a man almost 100 years old played Taps on his bugle. He did a good job, too. Could you please send me the recipe for that new fruitcake? With the help of my CNA I might be able to make one for my son. I sounds like something I would like, too.

AMY  for many years my oldest son wanted a cherry pie for his birthday instead of a cake. He still likes it. After Thanksgiving I was playing with cookie batter. I made about  5 different kind (3 batches for each kind) for my families Christmas. Would have been easier to shop for gifts but they liked what I made between cookies and fudge and coconut/date  balls. Great graphic you posted. I was thinking yesterday about family members that were in WW2. They all came home, one brother wounded and a BIL came home from N. Africa suffering from malaria. OK now what in the world is a TRUG?

JANE  if the cherry cake has a lot of cherries in it my son would like that, me, too.

LLOYD  cherry wood? bet that will shine up wonderful when you finish it. You mentioned making your recipe boxes before and I imagine they are beautiful. I am with you about pie but no pumpkin or mincemeat  pies. I would rather bake pies than cakes.

BUBBLE  thanks for the link. Wow lot of work involved and with chestnut wood they should last forever.

PHYLLIS  those old family recipes were wonderful and never to go out of the family. I have tasted some different things that I wished I had the recipe for.

MARY ANN  was so nice this morning to see all the posts. Only ones missing are CALLIE and JOY but maybe they will show up before I get to the end. I had one brother in Europe ( the only one wounded) and one in the Pacific who was a medic.

AMY  from what  they are saying on local weather will not have anything to shovel here if it only accumulates on the grassy areas. Bet my daughter would love a few of those trugs for the garden. They do have raised beds that they had to fill in with good soil. A neighbor has a big compost pile and gave them a few pickup truck loads of it.

MYCHEAL  I hope you do not mind but I copied your post to share. Beautiful and service men and women really deserve to be in Heaven.

JOY  I sure will not be doing out tomorrow. Supposed t o go down in the teens here tonight and I like being warm now.

CAROL  I have been retired  now almost 24 years and still love it.

CALLIE  must be disappointing  to have small audiences for the actors. It is  early for Christmas shows. I have seen some already on TV but too early for me to enjoy them.

JANE  I cannot  put drops in my eyes. Even the eye doctor I have has a problem doing it. I keep blinking no matter how I tell myself it is OK the drops will not hurt my eyes. When I had the cataract surgeries I went downstairs for my DIL to put the drops in.

Have a good day.

Good morning.  Gloria, I am up and here, but not quite "at em" yet.  But, I did write a message in here yesterday.

Amy, wow!  that sure was a quick job !  I have never heard that word "trug" before, but I have seen several different kinds of raised b beds to make it easier to work in.  I am sure you will be anxious to use yours.  I guess when your husband decides to do something,  he goes all out.  Looks like a great job  !

It is cold this morning and supposed to get colder the next couple days.  Our snow prediction is not supposed to amount to any big accumulation.  Just a messy "mess".

I have not been up long enough for anything exciting to talk about.  I need to get my medicine sorted out for the week, and then see what I can get into.

Have a good day.

This is haircut day (every five weeks) and that is done.  After the haircut, Tom and I have breakfast at the restaurant next door.  This afternoon Robin will be here to clean and do whatever else I can think of.  I called my doctor's office about having my ears cleaned and they'll call me back.  It's been many moons since I had to call them for an appointment and things have changed - so what else is new???

It was 18 degrees at 7:45 this morning and is only 22 degrees now at 11 am.  It also is sunny and clear so that means low temps, if not during the day, but at night.  Walking is iffy but doable.

I've come & each time have to much I want to comment on so go putter around the house thinking I'll have more time to compose the post... By the time I get back I must read over all the posts again & go through the same mental process of, "I'll have to wait until I have time because y'all have go so many interesting topics to talk about".... So for now, I'll just go for it & not try to write a book!

Love the talk about the trug & enjoyed the link to basket making... and I also have 2 of the Longaberger baskets, gifts from my daughter & DIL... they now hold numerous items, one that resides on the no skid cover over the stove in the RV & other on the side "table" by the head of the bed in the RV.

Amy, I did send the photo/graphic of Once a Soldier to my brother, Navy during WWII, discharged, college & back in regular Army during Korean War... he finally retired as full Col. in Reserves. He has many tales to tell of those years. Who ever thought of that image really came up with a brilliant idea and exactly what we see with our Vets from OUR earlier years.

Mary Ann, did I mention that Callie cat is the mother of Tom & Tiger?  Amazing how they pass on those colors. I will show you a photo of Tom (one of these days) why we called him Buttercup before he became Tom. His eyes & whole body as yellow as his fur.

Gloria, Cas loved cherry pie & I'm an apple person, but when I made cherry pies I would slip all the cherries out of MY piece & onto his, he just thought the pie was extra full of cherries. I like the flavor but not the lumps. ::)

Jane, can't tell you how worried I am about your latest problem.... hope your doctor can figure WHY this is happening all of a sudden.... and can fix & not just cover up! Will be thinking of you in my prayers. Any chance you have a carbon monoxide leak that builds up by morning? When we first moved to Wichita & lived in a rental house, we had a man from the gas company check the furnace out & he "red tagged it"... couldn't use until it was fixed.

Callie, glad to see you are having spots on your legs taken care of. I've never been to a dermatologist & never been looked over by any doctor so hold my breath when the subject comes up. A long time dear friend called me some years ago, said she had a "little spot" removed from her leg. She loved gardening so spent a lot of time in the sun in short shorts... she didn't say at the time the doctor wanted her to do chemo or anything, but maybe a year or so later (we lived in different parts of the state) she called to say the spot had turned into a serious problem. Not long after that call I had one from her husband to say she had died.  I was stunned. With my problem of all meds having terrible side effects & now at my age, I don't want to know or think about it. BUT, am pleased you are being careful. You also will be in my prayers.

Lloyd, my husband, Cas, loved "projects" like your recipe boxes... one year he made bird feeders for everyone, his last big undertaking was to custom make golf clubs... for himself. He found a place that would sell him all the parts & even some of the professionals around here called him to find his supplier. When he died he had 17 sets of clubs, but some were bought or gifts (set of Pings when he retired)... The golfers in the family got first pick of whatever they wanted & I still have a lot in 2 bags waiting to be sold or donated. My youngest son used to enjoy golf so had him go through & put sets together & offered him the various tools Cas had bought to work with, even extra titanium shafts, grips & the heat gun to put them on.

Must get up & move... The sun is bright but still cold out... wind not blowing like yesterday so more comfortable! Have mounds of laundry waiting.

Good morning.

Sunny and no wind so cold is not a problem.

Oh goodness, Shirley.  Dermo. appointment took 15 minutes and she "zapped" 4 spots on legs and 2 on an arm.  Zapper stings a bit when the tiny dot of foam hits but that's it. Spots will go away on their own.
Easy peasy.
Several years ago I had to have surgery on a place that had grown to look like a crusty pimple.  That involved out patient surgery under local anesthetic but the worst part was waiting for the "relaxation" med to wear off.

Not trying to minimize seriousness of skin cancer but keeping up with difference in age spots and something worse usually takes care of it. The spot I was concerned about today was "aging"; recommendation...use skin cream.

Now need to have lunch and get to hair appointment.

Not too long ago, I had a small lump on my nose that I paid little attention to, but I did finally monkey with it enough to draw blood.  My nurse niece told me I should see about it because it could be skin cancer.  I checked and it was; it was the skin cancer removal I had October 1.  I wonder what would have happened if I had not monkeyed with it.  I have not been a sun worshiper since my teens but it seems the chickens are coming home to roost now.  I have had three skin cancers since 2005, all on my face. In January I will have a body check.  I keep telling myself that I am too old for that, but I will have it and I hope I will have nothing urgent. So I urge anyone to have unusual spots checked. The only thing I had to put on my "spot" was Vaseline; are you allergic to that, Shirley?

I now have my appointment for having my ears cleaned out - Wednesday afternoon.  That way my ears should be clean for next week when I get my new "ears".

Shirley, I remember your saying that Callie is the mother of Tom and Tiger.  I moved Kendrick's bed in this room and he has been occupying it most of the time now.  Wherever I am, he wants to be.  He is 100% indoor cat!

I think my favorite pie is cherry pie and I used to take one to gatherings.  Nowadays it is so easy - buy two crusts, empty the cherry pie mix onto the bottom crust, do your thing with the top crust and bake the pie.  Eat and enjoy.  And people think you've baked a homemade cherry pie.  Now, my mother used to bake cherry pies from the cherry tree in our back yard so she did have to pit them.  Not necessary today.  Tom doesn't like cherry pie so we don't have it often as I don't want to eat the whole thing!

A good Tuesday to EVERRYFRIEND
I must be getting ready to head out the door, but wanted to just come in and say HELLO.

We are going to a gathering of the new home owners of the condo that we are thinking about buying.  I hope to pick their brains a bit about a couple of concerns that I have.

AMY, the trug that Kyle built is very nice and I am sure it will make it much easier for you to do your planting in.....I have never heard the name "true" before either.  That Kyle did a great job and boy when he takes on a task he gets'er done, doesn't he?

JANE, I am sorry to read you are now dealing with vertigo.  I sure hope the exercises you are doing will get this under control and you will not have to go to the doctor.

I have to get a move on.  Have a great day.

Jenny

I appreciate everyone's concern about the vertigo but I know where to go if it doesn't stop soon.  They did some testing and I learned something back then that I didn't know.  There's a little "whatchamacallit" in the back of one's ear that is chock full of weenie-teenie little balls and the way I sleep lets some of them find their way out into the ear canal.  When that happens, vertigo happens when you move.  So when I get up, I have to shift to the other side of my head for a bit then lower my legs to the floor and raise my head slowly.  I've been doing that and it's working.  If it stops working....back to the therapist.  If things have to be wrong, I'm in favor of things being wrong with a solution.

I cut the no candied fruit fruitcake and I've eaten most of one loaf.  It's soooooo goooooood!  Shared the recipe with Gloria and Amy!  Gotta spread the goodness around.

SHIRLEY, I never thought of Carbon Monoxide being present but there is someone coming in to check that and radon and do whatever is necessary to eliminate those two poisons.  This is something that they do free in this county for Senior Citizens and I'm on their list.  Don't know when it will happen but it will.

I have the mixture done for the Peanut Butter Cups for Christmas.  And maybe tomorrow I'll get the coconut ones done.  Then I have to make a batch of mix to do in different flavors....mint, rum, raspberry and....????

I don't know if I'll be back in before I hit the hay.  Enjoy the rest of your evening.  Take care of yourselves!

Good morning everyone..

Goodness me , it is - 10 ° F!! No lingering outside today. We need to pick up dog food and get a few things in town. Not much else other than right out a list for tomorrow when we head to the city.

Jane, thank you for the recipes, will get the supplies then this weekend will get the cakes done.  They are cutting the power on Sunday from 7 - 10  to up grade the lines. Will have to work fast on Sat then and get them done.

Jenny, that trug  took 6 hours to put together. I no sooner say I would like something built and it is done! Kyle loves working with wood. How is Michelle doing with her treatment? My friends sister in law has one more week to go on her radiation then she is done.

Mary Ann, cherry pie is one of my favourites also. When I worked on a farm they had a cherry tree Montmorency I think. We would pick the cherries and she would make the most delicious pies out of them.

Shirley, happy that you enjoyed it to send it on. I agree as I saw that in my Dad and others.

Sandy, hope all went well with your surgery.

Joy, if I said I would want a new house (which I don't) he would likely try to build it. When we moved in here, each year we would tackle a room. Started out with the bathroom till we wear completely done the house . Then a two car garage /shop was added on. Hope your spots /face has healed .

Gloria, I don't think you would go out for a stroll here today. My goodness it is cold but the full moon is so pretty. Glad I am inside looking out! I am another cherry pie fan.....

Lloyd, hope you found more zz's

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning everyone, it is now 16°, not to mention the windchill, think I should go outside now? Nah, will stay here where the heat is. Since I woke I can hear the heat in the baseboard  and has not stopped. Looks like a day for "geemagotchees" as Joan always called the longjohns. All I saw of snow here was on top of the cars and the tops of a few bushes. Really nothing here but sounds like the other end of the state had more.

JOY  I waited all day yesterday to see some snowflakes but the little we had must have been after I pulled my shades down. There are so many light poles around the parking lot and lights on the building I cannot sleep unless I pull the shades down. I always like sleeping i a dark room, grew up that way, never had a night light.

SHIRLEY  you din't like biting into a nice cherry in a pie? I like apple pie but I cannot eat a  piece of it if the apples are hard and not fully cooked.

CALLIE  I have had 2 age spots removed from my face. They were pretty dark but didn't bother me. My dentist and her assistant kept after me till I did something about it. Turned out to be age spots and looks like I have another one starting. Same side of my face, left side. Still light is color and at my age I will not worry about it.

JENNY  I thought you liked the house you live in now. Too much work though? When I think of the 8 rooms I had to clean I am glad I now have only 3 rooms. Still bothers me that I cannot move furniture to clean behind it but the helpers I have are not allowed to move then or wash windows either.  The company does not want them to get hurt on the job.

JANE  hope the way you are getting up in the morning now helps you. That recipe even sounds  good. I like every thing in it no candied fruit in it. The coconut balls I make have a filling of dates and rolled in coconut. So yummy.

LLOYD  the temperature here has now dropped to 15°. So glad I do not have to go out.

AMY  my son had a sour cherry tree and they would pit the cherries and my DIL would make a cherry pie with them. so much better than the cans of pie filling.

Have a good day and stay in if you can and keep warm.

I'm up but definitely not "attem" yet!  I'll have to work on that because it's a WM day at 10 a.m.  (12 down and 36 to go!)

It was 20º with a wind chill of 14º when I got up today!  I do not like the cold weather and neither do the doggies.  They didn't fool around out there today!  The grass was icy so the dew must have frozen.  I don't like "crunchy" grass! As you can tell, I'm not a fan of Winter!

My Texas daughter is coming for a visit this weekend.  She'll fly into Maryland and my daughter there will pick her up at the airport and both will come up here for a visit.  I'm really looking forward to having my kids all together for a few days!

GLORIA, let me know when you make the cake and if you like it.  I sure do!  And I'm trying it out on the family this weekend.  None of them like the candied fruit so I have high hopes for this one.

About the cherry pie...My daughter Cathy has never been a "cake person".  Her birthday "cake" has almost always been cherry pie.  I even found a way of getting her birthday pie to her when she was in college in southwestern Virginia.  I also got to know a lot of her friends from college and one time, my sister and I were walking through a mall near Baltimore and I heard someone shout, "Hey! Cherry Pie Mama!"  I looked all over and didn't see anyone I knew until I heard another shout "Up here!"  I started looking up and around and the young fellow about 40 feet up on a scaffold who was working on ceiling light waved.  It was one of Cathy's college friends!  It wasn't long before he was down and chasing after us to give me a hug and to tell me that he was waiting for Cathy's next birthday to share the cherry pie.  It was the end of the summer and he was working a summer job before going back to college.  Seems he lived near that mall.  My niece was impressed that someone "came out of the rafters to hug her fav aunt!"

It's 11 minutes until the boinger and then my day begins.  I better get this posted and get moving.

I wish you all a lovely day!
Make it your own in every way!

AND KEEP WARM!

Cherry Pie Mama! I so wish you were living nearer...  ;D
I love cherries and it is one of our "luxury" fruit here because we don't have the necessary cold winters.
All that talk of Christmas cakes and goodies made me nostalgic about Europe and the festive times there, decorations and all.

Jane, I'm sorry that you have vertigo but am a little relieved that it seems to be

https://www.healthline.com/health/benign-positional-vertigo (https://www.healthline.com/health/benign-positional-vertigo)

instead of Meniere's.  Keep doing the Epley maneuver and that will probably take care of it.  My ENT tried the Epley on me but it didn't work and that is how he confirmed Meniere's instead of BPV.  Good luck and my fingers are crossed for you to get rid of it soon.

It was 27 deg. when I got up at 6 a.m.  Only up to 31 now even with the sun shining brightly.  Yesterday was dreary with rain and wind....but, no snow, thank goodness!!  It was a miserable trip to the vampire yesterday but I got it done and back home where I poured a cup of coffee before I even took off my wet raincoat.  Oh gosh, did it ever taste good!

The only good pies I ever made were with cherries from 2 sour cherry trees in my in-law's back yard in Colorado.  Sour cherry pie was my dad's, and Tom's, favorite.  My local grocery store bakery makes some pretty good pies and I buy one occasionally.  They are better than I make.   :-\

Bubble, I've been watching live safaris from Kruger Park in So. Africa.  Is that any where near your childhood home?

Time to get the day started.  Take care, All.

Our cherry tree of "old" was a Montmorency and we had delicious pies from it.  Maybe that is why I like cherry pies so much.  I do use the canned cherries, both the kind ready for the pie and the tart ones that you have to gussy up.  I like a tart pie (apple too) and I've told about the time I made a pie from the tart cherries and did not add any sugar.  There was some puckering until I lifted the top crust and sprinkled some sugar there.  I don't care for apple pie made with canned apples and I've been told I make a good apple pie.

I made an apple pie recently that defied description.  Because of my age, if I want to do something, I get helpers.  I asked Tom to slice the apples.  Tom cooks but does not bake.  After he got the apples peeled and cored, he cut the pieces up in chunks, not slices.  I used the chunks and they were OK, but I think I'll give more instruction IF there is a next time.  Gloria, I don't care for apple pie that isn't done, either, not enough time for the flavors to penetrate.

It is 18 degrees here now, up from 16 degrees at 9 am.  I looked at radar and we should get some snow, but nothing like we had Monday.

Tom has Meniere's, but I think not often.  He mentions it occasionally.  I have Tinnitus and have a buzzing sound most of the time.  I usually have music going to overcome the noise.  Isn't it lovely getting old?

Jane, re your daughter wanting cherry pie on her birthday, my oldest nephew (deceased) wanted strawberry shortcake for his June 2 birthday.  And he got it!  When I have the shortcake, I think of him.

This afternoon we are going to the doctor where I'll have my ears cleaned out.  Next week I expect new hearing aids so my ears should be ready for them.  Growing older - there's always something, isn't there!  And the older I get, the more that goes wrong.  But I've been fortunate in what ailments I've gotten.

Good Morning,

Gloria,  Age spots "just go with the territory" IMO.  :(

Love the conversation about cherry pie.  One of my favorites, too.  However, my mother did not bake pies because she didn't like shaping the crust(s).  She did make delicious fruit cobblers - same type of fillings but with crust put into dish before the filling and then folded over it.  We had lots of blackberry bushes around our pasture and my Dad often received peaches in lieu of legal fees.  Yum!

I also have BPV.  When it was diagnosed and described I thought "My friends will not be surprised to learn I have rocks in my head."  ;D
The Epley maneuver worked for me.  The doctor told me to keep my eyes open while he was doing it, which was NOT comfortable.  I asked him what my eyes were doing and he said, "Spinning".

I'm going to give the program at a club meeting this afternoon.  Saturday is Oklahoma's 112th statehood "birthday" so I'm telling/reading "A Statehood Story As Told By A Senator's Wife".  I wrote it while I was an Education Docent at the Oklahoma History Center and presented it to school classes and other groups.  However, I soon discovered I am NOT an actress - so only did it "in character" once.
The 1907 blouse and skirt don't fit any more but I am going to put on the big hat with a flower and bird feathers that another volunteer made for me when I "flunked" her class on how to make one.
Weather has not been kind to my voice so I hope I can make it through without being too raspy.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good Afternoon.... it is cold
and blustery here on the rocky coast of Maine..

Yesterday I had my cataract removed,  and all went
well.    I had a conversation with the Dr all the
way through the procedure. No  pain involved and the
procedure kinda reminded me of what being operated on
by someone from out of space...  Bright white lights and movement with in those lights.   Didn't take long and I managed to get a good nights sleep and went back this morning for followup.   My long distance vision is now 25/20 and doesn't require glasses.  I will need a little help with over the counter glasses for reading and computer work.    very little, but some.

Getting used to a new way of seeing will take me a while to be comfortable with it.  I was lucky,  with no
problems to speak of.     Phew.  I am sure glad that is over with... Right now I just feel like staying home
and doing nothing...mental fatigue,  I guess.

I am lucky,  all is well.

I took a deep breath as well, Sandy. You are one tough cookie.... I'm so happy for you.

Callie, "Happy Birthday to Oklahoma!".....I'm sure you will do great even if you have to whisper. My mother used to let me "flute" the pie crusts & must admit, I took pride in the even pinches.  ;)

Mary Ann, I've had tinnitus for many years & early on kept a little Sony Walkman handy all the time so when it bothered me I would plug into my ears & couldn't hear those crickets anymore. I always bought the Sony ear buds that were on a metal spring like & wore them under my chin instead of over my head. Worked for me. Used the same little radios & ear plugs when the kids had to have their wisdom teeth out... cut out the sound they all said, so not as tense.

Gloria, I'm with you & wanting well done apples in my pies. We've talked about this before, but I still prefer the Golden Delicious for pies & to fry.... those sliced apples cook so fast & just a small scoop of brown sugar & SO yummy. My mother used to send me off to school with a nickel & I could ride the bus home (about a mile & half) or stop at Safeway & buy a red delicious apple & eat it while I walked home. Most days the apples won... and they were huge.... for a nickle!

Got my grocery list made out... online coupons printed (just the list), sure better than when I cut coupons! Have some nylon Jocky long johns on under my jeans & pair of UGGs on my feet. Getting warm so better put on coat & go!

Shirley, since I'm in the house most of the time, I usually have music going to create noise to cover the tinnitus noise.  Outside, there usually is enough noise so I really am not bothered by the buzzing.  I just returned from having wax taken out of my ears at the doctor's office and I don't think that removed the noise.  Right now I hear the furnace running!

Callie, I hope your voice held out and I'm sure your presentation was a hit.

Yep, PHYLLIS, that's what I have.  I didn't put all the technical stuff in because the "weenie-teenie" stones meant more to me when she said it than all the technical stuff.  She showed me a video of what could and did happen and I understood most of what she said.  She was very good and very young and she didn't treat me like an "old lady".  She talked to me like she might have to any person who did not have the scientific know how to understand that.  I really appreciated that.

SHIRLEY our church was across the river bridge and about a mile from where we lived.  Each Sunday we got a nickle for the collection and a nickel for the bus and if we got up early enough to walk both ways, we could stop for ice cream cones on the way home.  My sister did more than just nudge me to get moving in the morning.  I think she would have dragged me across the bridge half dressed if I hadn't kept moving and made it in time to walk.  But the ice cream cone was big and well worth the effort...especially on a hot summer day!

No vertigo this morning.  I guess the rocks are all back in the quarry where they belong!  CALLIE, I think it was you who referred to "rocks in the head"  When I was telling my kids what I had and what I could do for it, my son's comment was, "I always knew she had rocks in her head."  I informed him that he also has rocks in his head and if he didn't mind his manners, I'd see that they got shifted around.

Sandy, did you notice that the colors are brighter?  That's the big thing I noticed after cataract surgery.  I was on the porch with the dogs and I just stopped and looked around.  I couldn't believe the difference in the colors.

Getting on toward supper time so I better close this up and see what's in the fridge.

We enjoyed the meeting of the prospective owners of the condo group yesterday.  Two couples were getting together at a place to have a drink afterwards and they invited us to join them.  We got a lot of information from them and enjoyed our time together.

GLORIA, we do love our home , especially the location of it, however it is becoming more than we feel we are capable of keeping up with in a free standing home.  We are certainly not taking this possible move lightly....everything involved in this move is constantly on our minds and is nearly driving us nuts.  This home needs to be updated and Bob really is not wanting to take this task on, and I totally understand.  I guess this was a bit more than you were wanting to hear?  We technically have until the later part of December to totally commit to this financially, so the soul searching continues🤪

I loved all the discussion about cherries 🍒.  When we lived in Germany one of the colonels lived on a huge estate that had many fruit trees.  One day we were invited down to his place to pick any fruit that we would like.  We picked a huge basket of cherrie.  Later that day we started to pit them and it became one of many memorable events of our time in Germany.  Let me just say there was cherry juice EVERYWHERE in our little kitchen....but after we cleaned up the mess we made one heck of a tasty cherry pie, my Hubby's favorite❣️

SHIRLEY, I hope your shopping adventure went well for you today.  You certainly sounded well prepared🤣🤣. How is that leg feeling these days?

SANDY, happy that the cataract surgery went well and you seem to be doing well.

JANE, nice to read that your granddaughter is there and you had a nice evening together.

Tomorrow is Bob's 76th Birthday.  We celebrated with Dave's Family last Sunday and now Brian will be over to go to lunch tomorrow and then we will celebrate both of our birthdays after we return from California with both he and his wife.  BTW, we are going next week to visit our boy and his parents....we can not wait to see him.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.

G'morning all. What a surprise to see the word'Trug'mentenioned in here, by i think Carol/Amy and other's, especially as that is an old Sussex word  for 'Basket', still in use today around various counties of the uk and can still be bought in Garden Centres, Farm Shops and Craft Fairs,'Pick your own' Fruit Orchards or Farms etc, i can remember the local Gypsies, not so long ago, coming around every spring, 'Door to Door selling Washing Props, Pegs and Trugs and Sprigs of  freshly picked 'Lucky Heather!'from a Trug hanging from their arm, very rarely seen these days !.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm in love with TRUGS now!  And it would seem that Kyle is a "bodger" because he makes trugs!

JENNY, Happy Birthday to you Bob and many more to come!

We had a disturbed night.  I have a very sick little doggie.  She's driking water and letting it out but she's not eating.  Yesterday she was turning away from treats and this morning she turned away from real food.  We have an appointment at the vet this afternoon.  It's ANNIE who is ill and I'm really worried because she's at the upper edge of the age bracket for Scotties.  I don't want her to leave me but I don't want her to suffer either.

Have a great day today and a better tomorrow.

Jane, I hope you get good news at the vets today.  It is so hard when our fur friends are ill and can't tell us where they hurt.  I remember seeing pictures of you with your new puppy, a white Scottie, whose name would be Annie Laurie.

Roley, that was an interesting piece on the making of a trug.  I had not heard the term until Amy mentioned it the other day and what her husband made is nothing like what you showed, but baskets and holders come in all sizes and shapes.

I think we'll have a clear day today but I haven't seen the sun shine yet.

Oh, goodness, Jane, that is NOT what we want to wake up to (a sick fur baby OR sick real human family member). I know how your breath catches in your throat with the dread of what the vet will have to say.  Thoughts will be with you.

Jenn, sounds like you also have a group of birthdays to celebrate... and what better way than to give hugs to that newest little boy?! Happy Birthday to Bob and is it you & Brian later?  We have so many in Nov that we just lump them all together & celebrate with our Thanksgiving. Safe trip to CA!

Good morning, Peter... looks like "trug" can be anything that holds Mother Nature's bounty and can be any size. Amy's is to start the seedlings and the one my grandmother used was to bring the daily foods in from the garden.  My sister got that and also the carved wooden shoes she kept for gardening. Thanks for the link.

Haven't had my breakfast, Tom & Tiger ate but Callie is always a late sleeper. I close her in the family room with access to the utility room for litter box and she finds a new place to sleep nearly every night. She doesn't want to sleep in the bed provided. Tom stays in this part of the house with her but Tiger likes to be by herself. Need to get a move on.

Good morning every one, woke late today and my CNA will be here in  40 minutes. I am not dressed yet and just having my coffee. I keep telling them at the office I do not like early morning for them to come.  I am beginning to think the one i had for 2 years is not coming back and the one in charge of the office is on sick leave now. The one doing the job now is new but she does things her way. Wish I had the money to hire someone that I like and is here at my time.
I know I should be happy I slept a good 9 hours last night but instead I am grouchy.  Sorry to vent here but I like taking my time in the mornings and enjoy my coffee and catching up here in the SS. I still have time to call the office and cancel today's 2 hours. Except for doctors appointments we should be able to do things at the times we want. We put in our hours working and living by the time clock.

JANE  how wonderful for you to have all your children together. Time for a lot of picture taking. I am happy for you. Your daughter and my son would have been fighting over the cherry pie for their birthdays.

BUBBLE  the happiest holidays I ever had were when my 3 were young. The joy in their eyes at Christmas time was heaven to me to see.

CALLIE  hope your voice didn't  fade on you.

SANDY  I was nervous with the first cataract surgery but with the second one I was relaxed because then I knew what to expect.

SHIRLEY  I find if I use different varieties of apples making a pie it tastes better.Different flavors blend and so good.

AMY  I love apricots in all forms.

JENNY  one thing I like about living here is that I no longer have to clean off the snow from my porch and stairs and my path. I did not want my son to clean it, he had a lot to clean up as it was. Wish BOB a happy birthday for me.

AMY  hope the roads were clear for you this morning.

ROLEY  thanks for more about the trugs. Interesting what they do with the wood.

JANE  I hope the vet can help Annie. I know how it feels to have a loved pet put to sleep.

Better close this, the CNA keeps interrupting me and it has taken hours to finish.

Have a good day.

My sincere sympathy for you and I'm sure Mickie will will be there to take all the hugs you have to spare. I have the same fear of leaving these cats behind, there is no other place for them and most of all, I don't want them to suffer.
