For weeks a six-year old lad kept telling his first-grade teacher about the baby brother or sister that was expected at his house.

One day the mother allowed the boy to feel the movements of the unborn child. The six-year old was obviously impressed, but made no comment. Furthermore, he stopped telling his teacher about the impending event.

The teacher finally sat the boy on her lap and said, "Tommy, whatever has become of that baby brother or sister you were expecting at home?"

Tommy burst into tears and confessed, "I think Mommy ate it!"

BEYOND THE CROSSROADS
Cliff Sterling  (from old SN)

When I look into the mirror,
I do wonder how it can be,
that an old man looks back at me.
Where on earth has this old man been
for all of those many lost years -
too few laughs and too many tears.

From manhood, up to the crossroads,
those prime-of-life youth years just flew;
those happy years were all too few.
From youth to old age was a blur.
Life's tribulations took their toll.
Now, I'm simply wrinkled and old.

As I look into the mirror,
far beyond the facial lines,
I seek most a heart that is kind;
one with consistent compassion;
a heart forever forgiving -
to share lessons with the living.

I assessed my very being,
far deep within my ageless soul.
Was I wiser as I grew old?
Was my spirit all it could be?
Were my pure thoughts too far away,
when I humbly knelt to pray?

The human jungle was my cross.
Unable to meet its demands,
I mustered courage - made my stands.
Winning battles, but loosing wars,
the struggles had a human price!
I was at my end more than twice.

Only after utter defeat
did life become pure and golden -
returning years that were stolen.
I was led to the right crossroad
and received my award at last.
My trials were in the distant past!

Retirement is traumatizing
to many I am well aware,
but I find a safe haven there.
My spirit and youth are renewed.
Oh glory be, oh glory be,
I found my niche, and I am free!

Beautiful graphics & text, Bubble, thank you!  I am up because cats were at my door and the pain in my knee won't let me sleep. Cats in & fed and delivered tuna to the one in the garage as well. Old Mama Callie prefers the peace & quiet of HER garage over outside or even in the house at night. She seems happy to be home but a little strange (compared with the last few years). My sister's cats were free to be in or out but they were not MY fav critters, so I didn't know about this attitude of independence.

Since FitBit won't tell me how much sleep I had, I think I will go have a hard boiled egg & piece of toast, cup of coffee & try for more zzzzzzzzs. The night before I had less than 3 hours sleep and no nap, so must do better or I might get out of the habit of going to bed! Thanks for the funnies & beautiful graphics. Being the last of the 5 kids, I didn't get any facts of life as a kid, I probably would have thought the same as the little boy. Shirley

Shirley...
...same here, before i was eleven ( my gran passed away when i was 11 ) when i asked her where do babies come from i was told by her " under a gooseberry bush " or they are delivered by the stork, so you can guess, i spent many a day looking up into the sky awaiting the flyover of a large white stork carrying a new-born baby in a sling...

Good morning everyone..

I am off to the city this morning for xray and ultra sound. Kyle is not the best on his feet now so will be staying home.  Never thought we would be taking turns with the rollator but so thankful to have it!!!
Jane, prayers being said for the new bundle of joy...

Bubble, thank you for the new start and love the Beyond Crossroads.

Shirley, cats have a mind of their own. Glad she is at home and you don't have to worry about her. Cats have staff, dogs have owners.

Phyllis, the soup was delicious and I have lots of leftovers :)

Better get a move on, don't care to drive in the dark but it is what it is.

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I found it very interesting this morning that I can't go back to the last of yesterday's posts.  Every time I click on it, I'm brought directly to this forum.  This is the first time that ever happened to me. And I got an email telling me about this one!

BUBBLE, thank you so much for all the goodies and for keeping us going.  The man looking in the mirror reminds me of one time when I passed my mother's downstairs bathroom.  The door was open and she was just standing there looking into the mirror.  I asked her if everything was OK.  She said, "Yes but every time I look in this mirror there's this strange old lady looking back at me.  I wonder who she is?"  I know what she meant!  Where have the years gone?

Today is the start of the veggie soup and I have to be ready sometime early afternoon to pick up Cooper at the groomers.  Frankie's boyfriend is dropping him off and I'm doing the pickup.  I'm texting her later to get a time so I can arrange my doings to fit.

I slept in a bit this morning.  All that gardening yesterday made me tired last night and I slept deeply!  I guess I needed it!

Right now, we're waiting for the boinger and then breakfast, a walk and get the soup started.  Big day coming up!

I got up to temps about the same as yesterday morning...54º but the prediction is only for a high of 68 today.  Yesterday it got up to 80.  Not looking forward to the COLD days.  I know, some of you prefer the winter but I'm not in favor of coats and boots.  And I suppose I'll have to put away my sandals and start wearing sox again  RATS!

I think it must be almost time for the boinger so I'll wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good morning.  And it is a good one...outside the sun is shining and the temp. is in the low 60's.  Just my kind of weather,

I'm pleased that you liked the lentil soup, Amy.  It is one of my favorites.  I have some Bean Soup mix in the pantry and a ham bone in the freezer so I think I'll pull them out today and set them to cooking.  I know that David will like that.  He is so easy to cook for and I'm grateful for that.  Wish I could find my appetite again but I think it will probably come back now that the weather is cooling down.

Joy, my husband ate Saurbraten at a work friend's house one time and raved about it so I decided to try and make some.  I don't know why but even though he said it was OK apparently it wasn't as good so I never tried it again.   I needed you to teach me how to make it, I guess.

Happy Birthday to Nancy, Lloyd, even if I am a little bit late.

David will pick up groceries today so I think we will be able to eat for another few days.

Take care, All.

Jane, if you have a new surprise, I can't get back to what you said last night either! So if you don't mind, would you repeat yourself this time???? We'll let you know if your repeat over & over... haha...

Good Morning Every Friend.... Got some work waiting so will check in later. Wishing all a beautiful day, cool or hot, I think we are at that in between stage & I'm lovin' it.

Furnace runs at night; need a/c during afternoon when sun comes directly in west windows.

Otherwise, "same old same old..." in my little part of the world.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning everyone, just read yesterday's posts. I used to like game meat, a different taste but have not had any in years.  No German restaurants around anymore, used to be one and I loved the food there.

Dentist appointment went good, this new one who does the extrations was good. The only thing that hurt was the needle in the roof of my mouth. The whole left sure bled a lot  though. I got home just after noon, laid on the bed and woke at 5. Was back in bed at 9:30 and slept 12 hours. Don't think I ever slep t  that much in a little over 24  hours. I have been going to this dentist for about 15 years and this is the first time the place was so empty. The new dentist, her assistant and a girl in the office. So quiet in there.
Since I seldom get into a store and not since this virus mess started maybe that is why the office seemed so strange yesterday.

BUBBLE  thank you for the new October page and the graphics. Love Beyond the Crossing.

LLOYD  wish Nancy a bela ted happy Birthday for me.

Have a good day.

Good morning from the Interior where we're amid a Chinook wind, which brought temperatures in the sixties. The few leaves remaining on the trees have gone to russet.

When my daughter was young, I was determined to teach her the right way, and in ways, she would understand. As with most good ideas, things went south. Directly afterward, she repeated what I told her about what her friend David had and what she had. Then she turned to me and asked," So, what do you have, mommy?"

The following evening, I received a phone call from her kindergarten teacher. She commended me on teaching my daughter simply, and with appropriate words, my daughter could understand.

However, she had been fielding calls all afternoon and evening from outraged parents. Who hadn't planned on their children learning so much so soon. So, Marie and I sat down for another talk to explain that there were somethings better kept at home.

SHIRLEY, I said that there is a new little life coming into the world in OK.  It's my great grandson who I heard was to be on the day that you had the bad news of your brother.  He is in the process of being born right now.  I know he has some big shoes to fill but if I know Ali and Dan, he's going to be a good replacement!  Right now, I'm on pins and needles waiting for the final word.  I'll let everyone know when MICHAEL joins this world!

Thank you, Jane, and I do hope every now & then when you see Michael, whisper "Hi, Jay" in his ear and my brother will be listening. Since none of us ever visited Heaven and came back to tell, my Heaven is spilling over with love and my brother will have a special tie to Michael, maybe even like a Guardian Angel. Congratulation, I'm sure Michael has been welcomed to this world royally.

This has been a very special day.  First and foremost was the birth of GGSON, Michael in Oklahoma and the fact that all went well with the CSection and the baby is healthy and Allison is doing well.  I sent a picture to Bubble and asked her to post it so when the times jibe, I'm sure she will!

SHIRLEY, I'll be sure to whisper a "hello" to Jay when and if I get a chance to hold Michael and love him up!  I like the idea of his having his own personal guardian angel!  I like your interpretation of heaven.  It's pretty much like mine.  I expect my parents and grandparents and my sister and brother and cousins and all the friends I've lost to be there waiting to welcome us!

Second is a very large pot of vegetable soup, cooked and ready to be canned and waiting in the fridge for that to begin tomorrow.  The canner is ready;  the jars are ready; the soup is ready and hopefully the canning lady will be ready in the morning.

I have a long list of things that need to be done in the coming days and I just hope my energy holds up.  And part of that is based on the sleep that I must have.  So I'm off to the haystack to root out some zzzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

well I did not sleep well Last night, so got up came in here and reading. well I can if I haven't told you all before. I had a accident. the wend gusted and jerked me out of the road grader. I tried to hold on instead of jumping out, I could not hold on, and I hit my back on the rear tire of the grader, It crushed the cartilage out from between L4 and L5 in my lower Back. crawled in to hospital on hand and knees crying like a baby, but walked out ten days later. they stuck a Needell in and was putting die in to see where the enjoyer was. when it hit the aria where it was ruptured, it looked like you had threw a egg on a window glass splattered every where. I litterer died. when the got me back to life , one doctor was pushing on my chest, and a second was standing there holding the electric paddle's  they were shocking me with, and first words I heard was you are too young to go come on back with us. I did, but I never seen or heard any of things I have heard others say they experienced. I just came back to life, My lower back hurts all time, But I just grin and bare it.

Good morning everyone, I am up bu t not  at 'em. Not quite awake. Don' t ever remember sleeping like this before. Even when Yvette was here I almost fell asleep. I have a list of what I can eat so yesterday she went and got me some yogurt and made me some pudding, I do have some juice so had some thing  to drink besides water. Never had such a list before and never had so much bleeding after a tooth was extracted. Now I feel like a big baby for mentioning it. Think I was lucky to have all my top teeth at 89?

JANE  so happy Michael made it into the world and every thing is good, Hope the mom got some rest after. Hopefully you will take a  trip  to Oklahoma before he is a year old but looks like there will be very few planes flying soon.

LLOYD  no matter what you do with your machinery you seem to get hurt. Get rid of it so you cannot get hurt that bad anymore. We will scold you till you listen to us. Hope Nancy scolds you, too.

Have a good day ane be safe.

Good morning everyone,.

Rain again during the night..this will help the lakes, river ,ponds  and wells.

Today is getting some supplies at the lumber store then home to work about. Have some ironing to finish up....then maybe some sewing. Some where in the day should make bread maybe some raisin bread as we haven't had that for a while.

We named Jessie wrong , it should have been Miner or Digger so his excavations will have to be filled in today.

JANE, happy to read all went well with your bundle of joy making it into this world. Nothing like a new baby to make the heart smile. I know you will love him to pieces.

Gloria, not to worry, your at'em will catch up to you. Just take it easy till your mouth heals.

Lloyd, when young we do get into a lot of things that are hard on our body  and then we get older and we live all the aches and pains from it. Have you tried Shirley remedy of the Epsom Salts on your back?

Better get going or the day will be gone on me.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and, yes, I'm attem.  Ready to start the canning.  I slept very well last night.  It wasn't straight through but I'm getting used to that now.  It's cold here this morning but not below 50 and only going up to the mid 60s today.  I think it's FALL!

I'm going to keep this one short because it's going to be a busy day.  I have the soup back on the stove to get hot for canning.  And the canner is ready to fill with jars.  As soon as the boinger goes, we have breakfast and a walk, the canning begins.

I hope you all have relief from your aches and pains and a better today than yesterday! Do whatever suits your fancy today but make it your own in every way!

Good First Friday HELLO in October to EVERYFRIEND 🍁🍂

Thank you, BUBBLE, for our nice new Soda Shoppe and the goodies you have shared with us.

I have been absent for a couple of days due to having my life long friend visiting from Wyoming.  We pretty much covered all the problems in the world or at least gave it a good try while she was here😘.

I have already managed to loose my post so had to start over.  I get so upset with my self......

AMY, I thought about you going for your imaging test yesterday and hope you have or will have a answer soon as to what the problem may be.  Holding positive thought and saying prayers for you.

JANE, welcome to the world and to your loving family, Baby Michael🐥
So happy to read that mama and baby boy are doing just fine🥰🥰

PATRICIA, I do not think I have heard your late daughter's name before....Marie was my grandmothers name and she was everything to me.  I loved your cute story you shared about having the discussion of the birds and the bees story😘. Very cute.

PHYLLIS, I like your thoughts of fixing a pot of beans....I have a ham bone in the freezer as well and beans ALWAYS sound good to me.  Thank you!

The smoke from the wild fires is very bad here again today.  😩

I wish you all a good day.

Jenny

Good Afternoon,

Jenny, I'm right behind you.   :walkwhistle:

Janie,  Congratulations on the birth of great-grandson Michael.  I think flights are still coming and going from the east coast so "Come on out".

Patricia,  Miss Ellen's middle name is Marie.  I think that's after one of her Mother's favorite aunts.

Gloria,  so sorry you're having issues with the tooth extraction. I also have all my own teeth and sometimes wish braces would have been available when I was younger because the front ones are crowded and a bit crooked.  No one has ever suggested straightening them and neither have I.  :)

Miss Emily has "checked out of the clinic" and, after a friend's engagement party tomorrow night, will be heading home to stay - and to begin an internship with a local chiropractor for the rest of the trimester.
She'll have to go back for her final Board exam and - of course - for graduation on December 18th.
Very proud of this young lady.

Need to do a few Domestic Duties so I can enjoy patio time about 4:00 p.m.  I've discovered that's a good time to be out now that it's getting dark too early to sit out after dinner.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

Jane, let me add my congratulations to you on the birth of little Michael.   I guess I missed where you mentioned they were in Oklahoma.  I think you have a grand daughter in Texas, also???  I hope you get to see him sometime when all this mess if over. Meanwhile I am sure you will be bombarded with pictures.

Amy, Hope you are feeling better and I am not sure when you were supposed to have your tests done.  Hope you will get some answers soon.

I have been busy doing laundry this afternoon.  It has been a while since I had done any.   I plan to note the date so I won't be waiting as long the next time.  I didn't meet up with anyone in the laundry room.  Had it all to myself.

It is sure a pretty evening out my window.  Almost looks just like a nice summer day.  But, I am afraid it is chilly.
Supposed to be a nice weekend.

Have a good evening.

Joy

Good afternoon from another cool but sunny autumn day, so unusual this year.

Jane, I want to add my congratulations to Michael. We have three Michaels presently on both sides of my family, and they are all three doctors.

Jenny and Callie, Marie as a second name for a second daughter has been a habit in our family for the past several generations on my maternal side. However, I haven't seen it for the past forty years so it may be lost. My maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Marie, my mother was Helen Marie and I also had Marie as a middle name.

When I had my daughter, I named her Marie Gabrielle because I've always loved older family names.

Thanks for all the good feelings for Michael and family.  I just tried sending another picture to Bubble to post for me.  We'll see just how dumb I am, now.

I forgot who it was who asked about my Texas family.  This granddaughter in OK grew up in Texas and she met and married a nice guy from Tulsa, OK.  They live in a (I think) suburb of Tulsa called Jenks.  My daughter and SIL who moved to Texas from PA when the kids were little, just retired and they followed their daughter to OK.  They live about 2 miles from Ali and family.  Nobody in Texas any more.  Their second daughter is back in Westchester, PA working on her Dr. of Psychology Degree.  She'll be there for however long that takes.

The veggie soup is all done!  I had three canners full and I have 7 beautiful quarts (four for the church soup sale and one for my next door neighbor who is so helpful with the weeds that grow up between our properties.  That leaves 2 for "whatever".  There are also 16 pints for "when the snow flies".  And I'm really getting low on jars!  There are none to be had around here and Amazon's are out of sight pricewise!

I'm going to use up the rest of my pint jars for cooked down juice from the tomatoes to use in recipes later on.  And the half pints will hole frankie's green tomato salsa. Then I'll be lucky if I have a half dozen in varying sizes left.

Patricia, I loved the use of Marie in your family, down through the genrations.  I'm another that likes to perpetuate the old family names.  My daughter Cathy is named "Catherine" after her Great Grandmother who was still living when she was born.  Cindy is Cynthia that my mother wanted to name me and my father changed her mind.  Her middle name is Louise after my mother's middle name.  And Christy is Christine Margaret.  The M is from my sister and a favorite aunt!  My son is Philip after his father and his father's grandfather, even over his father's objections and John after my father.

Now, I'm heading for the haystack because my eyes just want to plop shut.  And I'm going to encourage them to do just that.  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, 54 now and I turned the heat on. We had showers yesterday, just enough to wet the walks and dried fast then a few more showers. Sun showed up at 4:30.

AMY  the rain we had yesterday didn't help anything fill up. I cannot remember the last time we had a drought here, must be at least 25  years ago.

Jane  the aches and pains are not bad on a dry sunny day but on a damp and rainy day it is horrible. My #1 son is named Michael, he is a good son husband, father and grandfather. My greatgransdon sure loves his "Popa"

CALLIE  the hole in my head feels OK this morning, might even make my oatmeal this morning. Need something solid instead of soft food. I have had so much yogurt and I really don't like yogurt of any kind.

PATRICIA  my daughter Regina is named for mo Mom and my MIL. Of course my Mom's name came first and Elizabeth was my MIL's name. My oldest brother named his first daughter Regina, too.

Have a good day and stay safe from the virus.

Good morning everyone...

Tad chilly here this morning 36° out there at the moment going to a high of 50 during the day.

Beets, laundry and more potatoes are on the job list today. Neighbour called and she had a box about 20 + lbs of tiny potatoes and didn't want them, so home they came with us. We had a good feast of them last night and will can the rest. They have to be either peeled or well scraped to can.

Gloria, no rain here until Sunday. 2020 has been a difficult year all round drought, fires and sickness. Let's hope 2021 is a better one.

Joy and Jenny, the day went well, only frustrating part was trying to find a parking spot. The ladies that did the xray and ultra sound were so nice, made one feel comfortable . Now to wait for results.

Jane, that is a lot of soup and a lot of work doing it all.

Patricia, I also enjoyed the story about your daughter. I am sure the teacher also had a giggle or two  .

Better get a move on...

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Just a quick "report in" for me this morning.  I got up and took Mickie out and then cleaned out the pan that had the dregs of the soup burned fast, cleaned the stove top and I have dog food started.  I have to go finish it before I can feed Mickie.

My plan for the day includes a quick trip to Davy's, a stop at our local hardware store, dropping something off for Cathy and picking up Cooper for the day.  Then we'll see how much time is left.

I forgot to mention that just as I took the last cannerful of soup off the stove, Cathy showed up with Chinese takeout for our supper.  What a relief not to have to think about what to feed myself!

AMY, we're all waiting with baited breath to hear the results of your tests.

GLORIA, enjoy your oatmeal.  I know how it feels not to be able to eat what you want!

Gotta go!  The boinger just went off and that means it's time to feed Mickie.  Enjoy your day everyfriend.

JaneS I just read your post about your family's history of naming names. I was drafted into the army in January of 1962, after basic training at FT riley Kansas, was shipped to white sands N. M. missal range.
there was our first two children was borne. Jeff was first and Louisalynn. we changed the history of N. M.
at that time N. M.'s freemale children had to have three generation's Names like ( lopes, Gonzales, Mendoza.) I Balked and said they could get a absente Ballet form Missouri. after several exchanges of mail they had a letter from the army doctor telling them that I was in the military and could Name our chelid as I wished. Louisalynn is as you see no middle name. Just Louisalynn Hammond. we won and they changed the old rule about Madien Names. she has on her own she dropped the last part and goes by Louisa. so I say name as you like (the parents) and hope doesn't ruffle the feathers. Have a great day.

I have to chime in here on the name discussion. I've always been fascinated by names, and why people choose certain names for their children.   We have a long and fairly consistent string of M names, for women in our family.

My maternal Great Grandmother was Mary. She and my grandfather Thomas, had 13 children!!  All were born in mining camps in Nevada.  My grandmother, was #3, of the 13, and was named Maud.   She and my grandfather had one daughter, my mother, who was named Mildred, but nicknamed Mickey.    My Mom and Dad had me, Marilyn, and my brother, David.  I named both of my daughters M names.  #1, Michele, nickname Shelley.  #2, Mary Alexandra, nickname Sandy.    My brother and wife named their first daughter, Miranda.

After that four generation link of M's, it skipped a generation.  Sandy has never married, so has no children.    Michele has three daughters, and none of them have M names.   However, two of her daughters are married, and have  girls with M  names. One has Madeline, and the other has a daughter named Marianna.

Anything more you'd like to know?  Ha ha!  I tend to get carried away with information, so please excuse.  I love to hear about the names in everyone's families.

I'm off to the haystack!  It's been an unusual day to say the least.  Not good, not bad...just different.  And now I'm ready for sleep and a new tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Marilyne...
..i had to smile over your post, re the long list of your family names beginning with an M...I can just imagine how so many of those names got mixed up when one person was called by one of the other peoples names, and the fun when these people pointed out their naming mistake, such as " I'm not Mary i am Marrianna, Mary is my cousin, " or so forth...

Jane S...
... sometimes " different " can be good..we all need a tad of different in our lives...

Good morning everyone, a brisk  42 to start my day here. The heat is on but wish I could feel it faster.
AMY  can I go stand in front of your wood stove and all that lovely heat? I do not like baseboard heat. Takes forever to warm up but you never feel the heat on you when you get a chill. I noticed an update thing on this machine last night when I went to shut down and I did not want to do that so just closed, well it did the update anyway, grr at windows 10. All I had on the task bar are gone and will have to do that again. I like thing the way I had them, easier for me. I do not want a bunch of folders or icons on the monitor, rather see what I have for background. Oh well live with it or do without?

PATRICIA  your story with your daughter reminded me of a woman at a place I once worked. She had a 5 year old son and said she brought him into the bedroom and told him to get undressed and she did, too. She showed him the differences between them and the facts of life. I thought she was really weird to do that. Needless to say I did not work there too long, too many weird ones there.

AMY  last night on the national news all they talked about was President Trump getting the covid-19. I hope all the things they are trying on him will workand he gets better before the election. I was looking forward to the next debate, first one was a farce.

JANE  I did enjoy that oatmeal yesterday and will this morning. All I did yesterday was pick on things that were soft to eat. That hole in my head ;) feels healeed enough now that I should be able to eat solid food again, thinking of starting a stew in the crockpot. A good day for something like that.

LLOYD  I don't think any state should tell you how to name your child. Glad you won that one.

MARILYNE  when I was born the neighbors wanter her to call me by my middle name. Glad she didn' t, I detest that name. My husband named our sons but I named my daughter. Always said if I had a girl she would be named for my Mother. No nick name allowed either.

JANE  hope you found a comfy spot in the haystack and slept a good as I do. If I can sleep through a thunder storm and not hear anything I sleep sound, think I would sleep if this building fell down.

JACKIE  I agree wih you about names. My Mom had so many  she would call for the wrong one at times.  She would almost name all of them before getting the right one.

Have a good day everyone and s tay safe.

Good morning.

Rain  today and that will put the leaves down.

A day of rest after I label and put away the beets and potatoes.

Gloria, the fire is on this morning and if the day stay chilly it will stay on. I have some odds and ends in the the fridge for the making of soup.

Jane, did you hear me say thank you thank you thank while caning was being carried on yesterday? I did manage to trim Babes and Rex's nails..giving each a short one that hurt me more than them. I can see he has problems with his hind end and hope Rex makes it through this winter

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold one here!  I slept in a bit and got up to 38º! Brrrrr!  I know!  It's probably colder than that where some of you are but I'm really not looking forward to low temps!

AMY, I did hear those "thank yous" and I wondered where they were coming from.  Of course, you're very welcome!  My plan for today is to finish up the last of the tomatoes both red and green.  I don't know if I'll make it but that's my plan!

GLORIA, I did find a comfy spot in the haystack and I slept in this morning until almost 7 a.m.!  It was a good night.  I did wake up (sort of) a couple times but I just rolled over and went back to sleep.  It sure felt good!

JACKIE, you're right!  Different can be nice sometimes!  And a little reflection tells me yesterday falls into that category!  Thanks for the reminder!

I guess Bubble didn't get my second try at sending a picture of our new baby.  I'm just not very good at that.  I don't have a clue what I might be doing wrong because I've sent her other pics and they went through.  Maybe I'll just forward the whole email from my daughter and let her pick one to post.  What do you think, BUBBLE?

There goes the boinger and it's time for Mickie's breakfast...mine, too.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  Grab it and make it your own.  And don't forget to share it...whatever it is!

Patricia, good afternoon!!! I finally got to listen to the hummm and feel the cold steel of my sewing machine. Taking a break at the moment and see that the rain has started...maybe the fire will be put on shortly. When we were in Alaska we did get to see wild sheep......are these the ones you talk of eating? One had to be vey careful as they popped out of the woods.

Jane, maybe tomorrow I will get at the rest of the taters and the chicken but for now just sewing. Not so sure I would do beets again..when pickled they retain their colour but not when they are canned. Guess one could close their eyes when eating then  :2funny:

Better get back to sewing...

General Description

"Dall Sheep (Ovis dalli dalli) inhabit the mountain ranges of Alaska. These white creatures are most notable for the males' massive curled horns. Females (known as ewes) also carry horns, but theirs are shorter and more slender, and only slightly curved. Until rams reach the age of 3 years, they tend to resemble the ewes quite a bit. After that, continued horn growth makes the males easily recognizable. Horns grow steadily during spring, summer, and early fall. In late fall or winter, horn growth slows and eventually ceases. This start-and-stop growth results in a pattern of rings called annuli which are spaced along the length of the horn, and can help determine age. Dall rams as old as 16 years have been seen, and ewes have been known to reach 19 years of age. Generally, however, a 12 year old sheep is considered quite old."

Patricia, thank you! I  don't know what we saw male or female as they only had the shorter slender horns. They didn't stay out long enough in the open for me to take a photo.

AMY, when I do beets, I only pickle them.  I don't really like the taste of regular beets and non of my kids did when they were growing up.  Now, two of them like beets just about any way you cook them.

I finished all the red tomatoes today.  I just juiced them and cooked it down slightly to use for recipes.  I like some on a roast that I do in the crock pot and on some skillet dinners.  So now I don't have to wonder if I have any.  I do!

Tomorrow (hopefully) I'll get the green tomato salsa done for Frankie.  I'm giving her one jar now and saving the rest for Christmas.  The one she's getting is a test jar.

And then one of these days I'm making green tomato chili for supper and that should be the end of the green tomatoes.  There were a lot more this summer and I think it was due to the dry weather.  I watered them regularly but it just wasn't enough.

Now I'm going to the haystack to look for some zzzzs.  I think I might have left a few last night and I think they might multiply during the day when no one is there to use them.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning

No rain for today but calling for it tomorrow. Off to meet up with friends to exchange goodies that we bought for each other and she is bringing a loaf of molasses raisin bread for us to try. Will let you know how it is..

Will get at the potatoes again today. JANE I did 40 lbs of pickled beets for Kyle and just this 10 lb bag as a vegetable .Will let you know how it tastes etc.

Patricia ,I would have loved to see the bighorns. Talking with a friend last night she said they just missed a huge moose while riding on their trike. She saw is come out of the woods and yelled moose moose moose to her husband. They watched it cross in front and got down into the swamp, said it had a huge rack on him. Where they enjoyed this sighting isn't too far from us and we may even get a glimpse of him when we travel.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I wasn't even awake yet when Frankie texted to ask if she could bring Cooper early this morning.  Seems she switched a day at work with a friend and would need to drop him by around 7:30.  So we moved!  Mickie had her pill and we were awaiting the boinger when they arrived.  Cooper hadn't eaten so when the boinger went, we all had breakfast and then a nice long walk.

I've been busy with the green tomatoes since we got back.  I have the ones for the chili ready to go for our supper and I'm (would you believe it!) in the middle of making a green tomato spice cake.  While that bakes, I'll be cleaning the tomatoes for the green tomato salsa for Frankie.  Maybe I'll keep a jar or two for me.

JACKIE, my pumpkin wasn't nearly that size!  However, I did see some really big ones that you wouldn't just pick up and carry off.  Mostly, the big one are decorations.  They're a bit grainy is you try to cook them and you get more strings and juice than you do pumpkin.  I prefer the crook neck pumpkins for pies or whatever.

LLOYD, it's not so dangerous being a couch jockey!  Maybe you should make that more of less permanent.  Just get enough exercise to keep you going but stay off the motorized farm vehicles.

Well, my timer is going off so I guess my break if over.  I want to get the cake in the oven so I can clean the rest of the green tomatoes.  I'm sick and tired of looking at them just sitting there doing nothing!  And I need the space.  Kitchen isn't all that big!

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  Do what pleases you most and let the rest of the stuff wait!  We've earned it!

Jane ,you were on the run this morning! I am sitting waiting for the dodad to drop on the canner then the chicken can come out.  One year while on the farm a friend phoned and said her Mom wanted to know if I would like a pumpkin for pie..I said yes........well she said Mom wondered if you would take 2......ok I can handle two pie pumpkins............well if you took 3 then Mom would have to worried about them. Ok 3 pumpkins for pie.......notice to where was the word PIE PUMPKIN. Over they came in Charlie's truck and I could see from the kitchen window that these were NOT pie pumpkins but the enormous ones that you grow for fairs. (Which her grandsons did) We rolled them down a plank off the back of the truck and into the summer kitchen. Each day I would whittle a chunk off and make it into  filling. The insides when cleaned were big enough for a 3 yr old child to hide in!! We ate pumpkin seed forever it seemed. Any one visiting went home with either a chunk of pumpkin or the puree  even. Even those that made a wrong turn and stopped for directions weren't exempt from the pumpkin. Both her Mom and Dad have passed on but we still have a good laugh at the pumpkins.

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND🍁🍂

MARILYNE, I enjoyed reading about your family names.  I really do not have any stories about names on my side, other than Bob sure is a popular name.  My dad is Bob, my brother is a junior, I married a Bob and there were two uncles and two cousins named Bob!  Bob's side of the family has many girls named after the mother's which I thought was interesting and all the girls down south seemed to be called two names.

GLORIA, I am assuming since you detest your middle name that you are NOT going to share it with us? 😘

I never liked my name and there were not any other Jenny's when I was growing up.  My middle name is Lynn and I always wanted to be called that with no success!  One family friend did call me Miss Lynn, and I loved him for that😘

When we named our boy's my husbands only request is that we name them a name that could not be shortened or known by anything other than what it is.  We sort of failed on that with David since it can be shortened to Dave.  The other three are exactly what they are.

I always love reading about all the goodies you all can and cook....sure do wish I could taste most of what you do.

JACKIE, I have seen a few of the gigantic pumpkins people grow....it amazes me they can get them to grow that big as the one you mention.

PATRICIA, I feel so lucky to have seen in person so many different wildlife.  I have always been fascinated at seeing Big Horn Sheep hanging in the side of a cliff.....can't begin to imagine how they can get where they are and stay there without tumbling down.

Trying to get a bit of washing done today and the dryer is playing me a tune to say....come fold me!

Enjoy your Monday, EVERFRIEND❣️

AMY and JANE.....you two posted while I was, so just enjoyed reading your posts.  LOVED your pumpkin story AMY.  JANE, that Cooper is one lucky doggie to be able to stay the day with you and Mickie🥰

JaneS Ok we have been talking about calling a auctioneer and selling every thing except some of my woodworking equipment. we only have two cows left and haven't seen one of them for a couple weeks. so she has stared or been stolen. some one got in to the shop and stolen several of my grinders and hand tools, about what we can say for sure about$ eight or ten thousand $$ wort. insurance man says we can add any thing  that we think for sure of up to two years. you as they say after the mule gets out shut the barn door. but I have installed a game camera in the shop where it covers it mostly completely, we are going to get a couple more and put up that shoes whom comes and goes in and out. A neighbor Has a sign up that says smile you are on cram era. and he has one uo that gets you as you come in and a second one on that one. if some one is steeling it or damaging it the second one takes there picture doing that. My brother had one up that showed a flash while taking a picture and they stole it. I built a metal box that me creamer fits in and a boult cutter proof lock on it. Have a good rest of the day.

Hello Everyfriend!  It's dark night out there again and I suppose it's getting on towards bedtime!  Frankie decided that she likes being able to come home while it's still light out there when she goes in early like she did today but it's not that much fun getting up so early in the morning.  However, she's doing it again tomorrow so we'll have Cooper at 7:30 again tomorrow.

We had a good day today.  I've been taking both of them for walks together and since Mickie's leg seems all healed, she does a better job of keeping up and Cooper is behaving like a real gentleman and waiting for her when it's necessary.  We did three walks together today and we did the whole circle all three times and it was fine.

Also made a green tomato spice cake and it's goooo-oood!  You can't tell it has green tomatoes in it but it has an oomph that other spice cakes don't have.  It was supposed to be baked in a bundt pan but I don't own one so I did it in two loaf pans.  I'm saving that recipe.  It was pretty easy.  I'm making the green tomato chili tomorrow and Frankie is going to stay for supper and try it out.  We'll report tomorrow.

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  I sure hope some of the zzzzs have multiplied since I left there this morning.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

We are off and running this morning  .ok strolling. Taking Kyle out for his birthday to his favourite places...cheese and chocolate factory. We will have a take out meal in the vehicle with our pooches. Seems the Covid  is starting back up again and this will be the last trip for a long while.

Our friend stopped in yesterday and gave us a load of raisin bread and the recipe sure is a keeper. Makes 4 loaves but I think one could halve the recipe.

Lloyd, I was busier than a one armed paper hanger yesterday and you had better keep coming in as we love to hear from you.

Need to get ready...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, 49 now but will warm up later after the sun rises.
Yvette will be here at 10 this again instead of  12. Today is shopping day so I have to make out my list. Need some dried fruit for my oatmeal so have to write down all the ones I like.
Had my first solid meal last night since I had that tooth out. Have some Shepherd's pie in the freezer and had one last night and boy did it taste good. One little piece of the hamburg got caught in the hole from the tooth and being careful I used my toothbrush to get it out. Such a tiny piece sure bothered me till I got it out. As bad as getting something stuck between teeth.

LLOYD  after all the hard work you have done all your life you just enjoy being a couch potato now.

JANE  looks like you and Amy have spent  many hours canning with this years harvest.  Think you will be happy to see the end of the tomatoes. I envy both of you and wish I could still do it. I did enjoy all that work during the winter months. All the tomatoes and fruit and jams and vegatables. Even wild picked blueberries. Used to be a lot of those bushes in this town till city people started moving here and cut them down to build a house.

AMY  after those 3 huge pumpkins did you start asking how big they were before accepting any from anyone?

JENNY  you are so right, I never use that name, only the initial.

Time for breakfast and then maaking my grocery list. Will take me forever to do that.

Have a good day and stay safe, no covid-19 allowed in this cyber family.

Good morning, 31° this morning, and today will be another busy one with more errands in town and waiting for an Amazon order. Those photos of vivid bushes I took yesterday will soon be disappearing with these dropping temperatures!

Lloyd, nothing wrong with being a couch potato. I had over 49 years of working, paying bills, raising my child, and taking care of my parents, making my way through life. And that's what we all did; it never seemed special, just life. So, kick off your shoes, lean back, and enjoy. You've more than earned it!

Some of us, cough, Jane, Amy, cough, cough, are still staying busy. I believe we all wish we could still do everything they do and certainly enjoy hearing about it!

Hello my friends!  I'm finished with the canning unless I come across something that can be canned in 6 quart jars, 2 pint jars and about 4 baby jam jars.  That's all I have left of jars and I still can't find any to buy.  I guess it doesn't matter because I really don't have anything else to can.  I'm just taking a rest after finishing the green tomato salsa and cleaning up after it.  Everything is put away and I have about an hour before I have to start the chili for supper and then I'll NEVER mention green tomatoes again.....until next summer!

Next on my agenda is Christmas candy and I've already begun to amass the necessary items for making that.  So far, I have two blocks of chocolate...one milk and one white!

Tomorrow is going to be a laundry day. All my dish towels and potholders and my apron are dirty and I have to change the bed and wash some unmentionables  and shirts and change over the winter pjs with the summer ones.  I won't have Cooper for two days because Frankie has two days off and she's going to Maryland to visit her Mom.  So Mickie and I will have a couple of slower days.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KYLE!  Is today his birthday!  Today would have been my brother's 92 birthday.  I have to call my sister tonight because I'm sure she's having a hard day!

I think I'll see what the house looks like through my eyelids for a half hour.  I've seen it before that way but I forget.  Enjoy the rest of your day!

Today was a perfect  day. Weather was cloudy, just right for a long drive and cool for taking the dogs . Kyle scored at both the cheese and choc factory. I also  scored at the headwear store where I gleaned 4 cases of jars. We  had just got home when the pharmasist  phoned and said if we get right in she would give us our flu shots....so we flew back to town.

Thank you for the birthday  wishes for hubby.

Phyllis a Happy Birthday to you, may you be blessed with many more..

Handing PATRICIA  a Halls cough drop  hope your cough  cough is better.

Jane , that squash wouldn't fit on a cookie sheet until I cut the seed  bulb off. Since there was ham and scalloped potatoes in the oven the squash also went in. The amount t of squash in the neck filled two huge containers and tomorrow  I will package and freeze it.

Enjoy your evening..

BOY!  That must have been a big crook neck!  Lots of pies and stuff from that one! And these are from the Pennsylvania seeds, right?  You must have the magic touch!

PHYLLIS!  I forget if I wished you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY but just in case I didn't.....HAPPY BiRTHDAY TO YOU!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR PHYLLIS, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!  See!  I can sing!

The green tomato chili was HOT!  I mean hot enough that you kept a glass of milk handy while eating it.  But it sure was good!  I'll be making it again next summer for sure and maybe more often.  I wonder about canning it.  I'm sure it would have to go in the pressure canner because of the meat in it but I bet it would work.  Have to find more jars between now and next summer!

Now I'm going to hit the haystack again.  The zzzzs were there last night and I sure hope they're there tonight.  I'm tired right down to my socks.  And they're way over there in the drawer!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning every one. Nothing new or exciting here. Finally heard my hew neighbor last night. Mus t have a  TV in t he bedroom because I could hear it  last night when I went to bed. Not too loud but the first time I ever heard it. Did not keep me awake either.

PATRICIA  I envy Jane and Amy all the canning they still do. I used to do a lot of it during harvest season. Now I would not be able to lift one full pint jar.

JANE  I imagine you are happy to finish your canning at last. Just think of how good it will be during the winter. About this time I would start getting what I needed for the candy and cookies I made for Christmas. My family misses all of them but those days are over now.

JENNY  Yvette's first client has had appointments this week and she asked if it would be alright if she came early and I said OK. I could have said no but she does so much for me-above her job description. She spoils me.

JANE and AMY  I was  telling my oldest son about those crook necks and he was interested. He always has a big garden and always looking for some thing different  to  plant . Any idea where I can get some seeds for him?

JACKIE  add me to those who cannot carry a tune in a bushel basket.  ;D

Have a good day and keep safe.

LLOYD  you sneaked in on me.

BUBBLE  you sneaked in there, too.

I'm up and dressed and Mickie has been out and we're waiting for the boinger.  I think today will be laundry and in between getting the bill paying for October in order.  I've already been on line looking for pint size canning jars.  I found lots of them.  Some I can afford from a place that "dos not ship to your area" and some that cost at least twice as much as they usually do.  I guess I'm out of luck for now!

When I gave Frankie some chili to take home, I told her "I want the jar and the lid back when it's empty!  She promied!

I like the new site where we can remember our old friends.  I still have a picture of our June posted in my office.  I don't know how to get it to you to post but I'm sure many people have pictures of her.  She was a SPECIAL!

Gotta go feed Mickie and have my breakfast.  Then a walk will be in order while the towels wash.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Thank you for the birthday wishes.  It was a quiet day but, pleasant.  I had a nice long phone conversation with younger son, daughter-in-law, and younger grandson.  Older grandson was at work at Dulles Airport.  He has finally been called back after a long furlough from his job.  And, of course, I had nice wishes from David.

Late Happy Birthday to Kyle, Amy, on our shared birthday.

It's a beautiful day here with lots of sunshine.  Supposed to be warmer for the next couple of days.

David and I decided to not buy trick or treat candy this year.  The governor is encouraging parents to NOT let children go out and I agree with that.  We will turn off the porch lights and leave the door closed.  It's too bad that things are so different this year but safety for the children comes first.

Take care, All.

I'm up but Attum is hiding out. Do love the new site, Bubble, thank you!  I will start going through the old computers to see what I can find. I'm holding my breath that they keep working until I get everything off of interest. I bought an external drive & backed up the one laptop, only to discover that everything showed up as a file number & I had no clue what anything was, so gave the x-drive to my son to get out of my sight!  Must take care of things around here before play time.

Good morning to all our Friends, wishing all a happy day. We had fall for a few days and back to the 90s today, not my fav weather. My closets are a disaster area of summer & winter weight clothes. The trees are starting to turn and I'd love to take a drive but my knee does not like that idea.  :tissue: Elbow bump and cyber hugs all around!

Ah ha, you snuck in, Phyllis. I quit with the Trick or Treaters a few years ago, when the kids got bigger than me. I tried opening the door for neighbor kids but would get rushed by adults carrying babies (that couldn't possible eat the candy), no costumes & just grocery sacks to fill for the adults. With nobody but me here, I didn't feel safe opening the door anymore so hide out, lights off that trickers can see.

Good morning, it's six am and 40° here, warmer than yesterday! Happy belated birthday to Phyllis and Amy's Kyle! And thanks, Bubble, for the new site!

I've gotten all the groceries and paid all the monthly bills along with receiving the Amazon order. Now, I can sit back and relax until next month. I am another who used to collect all the supplies and crafts for Christmas goodies, gifts, and parties. We used to have a cookie exchange every year in early December, where each one of five to ten people would bring a couple of dozen cookies and a recipe or more. It worked out for everyone to have a basket or two. We had cocktails and poker nights, dinner parties, and Halloween celebrations, Thanksgivings shared, and all those Christmas delights.

More than half of those friends are gone now, and others moved away. The ones left are barricaded behind doors, and we call each day or so just to check-in and share that there is no real news. The virus is bad here with two days, Sunday and Monday each, with over forty new cases, and yesterday with twentyone. At least you see more folks with masks on now that the median age for new cases is twenty to twenty-nine. Funny how that works.

I was up and attem but lagging in my work so off I went without posting!!

Jane, yes these are from the PA  seeds and when others have tried it they loved it! One lady wants another one! Need to give some to the kids too. I did save the seeds from the one I cooked.

Phyliss, I don't think there will be trick or treating anywhere. Much safer to buy treats and maybe hide them like Easter eggs for the kids or make them do a trick or treat for a candy bag??

Gloria, a dear lady sent me these seeds ..they literally took over the garden. They did not know there were stay within the fence or to not visit the neighbour but it sure was a joy to watch them grow and hear the hum from the bees that visited them.

Better get back to work.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The day has begun and I spent most of the night waking to remember all the stuff that didn't get done yesterday and needs to be done today.  As AMY said, tomorrow is another day so I'll just keep plugging away.  But one of the things I MUST deal with today is 4 jars of green tomato salsa that didn't seal.  Even if I share it with Frankie, I don't think we can eat all of that before it spoils.  But I'm going to have to do a canner full of mixed jar sizes because I have NOTHING left.  This has been a weird year for jars.  When I mentioned to the guy at the store that this is as bad as the TP shortage he said, "It's worse!  There's no substitute for the jars!"  And he's right about that!

The boinger just went off so I better get Mickie her breakfast and get started on the chores. Enjoy your day everyfriend an make it your own in every way.  And come by to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Good morning.  I had a lot of catching up to do this morning.  I guess I haven't been here for a few days.

I did have a doctor's appt. on Tues. and everything was good, I guess.  He said the blood work was good, keep doing what you're doing and see him in 2 months.  He keeps very close check on me,  LOL.  I feel good, except for being a little depressed because of all that is going on in this world.  But, I do talk to others who feel the same way.

I have been sleeping good and am trying to eat better, but just don't have that great of an appetite. I did stop at Pop-Eyes on the way home from the doctor's and had a nice chicken dinner.  I usually get an extra chicken breast so I can make up some chicken salad which I will do today.

I am one who goes by my middle name.  However all of my important stuff is either in just my first name or first and middle name.  Sometimes it sounds funny when I am at an appointment and they call me in and use my first name.  I am used to it now.

I love hearing all of you that do a lot of cooking talk about all the things you can and cook and bake.  I used to really like to cook, but it is hard for me to stand at the stove now, so I try to fix something that is easy.  I am hungry for a good beef stew, but, I can do that in my crock pot.  Just have to get it all ordered.  Getting my groceries delivered, I don't get a choice to actually look at things and have to depend on the shopper to pick things that look good.. I have a small roast of beef on my next order, so hope it will be ok. There is a place where you can make a comment pertaining to a certain way you want something, so I will ask for a small roast that doesn't have a lot of  fat       with it.  Will order some frozen baby carrots and a few potatoes and I have onions. So, hopefully it will turn out ok.

I slept in a little bit this morning, so it is already lunchtime.

Have a great day and be safe.

Joy

Good morning from the Interior, where its 33° presently. Nothing interesting to report today other than a later grocery run and perhaps a duet with the washer and dryer. While we have a phone in service with the three mall groceries, none of them deliver as they do in the states. Since I don't drive, there's not much point.

We had a high of 55 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 40 new ones on both Tuesday and Wednesday, so more people are wearing masks, distancing, and more stores are making precautions mandatory locally. The largest majority of the new cases are in the nineteen to twenty-nine age group, which is why more people want more precautions.

Internet friends in Australia and New Zealand are having many of the same issues as us. Australia is having fires and New Zealand had both snow and floods earlier this week.

Just had the old proverbial "light bulb" go on...In just 25 days, the robo calls from politicians will end.  However, the light bulb does go off...in about a week, (happening even now here) the robo calls relating to upgrading our Medicare Supplemental Insurance will begin and those will continue at least till years end! I wonder what new "thing" will take over making the robo calls?  Guess the fun never ends, huh?

One thing that is absolutely certain...robocalls WILL continue!

Now I'm off to the haystack again.  I had to get up and go get some iceceream to keep myself awake a little while ago.  The ice cream was good and I'm awake but I'm tired.  Got a lot done today but the bad news is Davy's is closed for 2 weeks of renovations beginning on Monday of this week!  How will I get my shopping fix?

I guess I'll think about that tomorrow!  Good night for now!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, we had quite a storm Wednesday-late afternoon. The sky suddenly got black and rain started hitting windows, wind started blowing and the leaves were flying like snowflakes whirling in a blizzard.
Then power and cable went out. Oh not nice. Glad I have a couple of those bright lanterns so that  was OK. Lights were out almost 2 hours here.  Cox didn't come back on until yesterday afternoon just in time for me to start Skype with my daughter.
Just 27 now here, that brief storm Wednesday must have been a cold front coming in. The cars are all covered in frost now.
In this building only the grands of  tenants come for Tricks or treats. They are only allowed to go to their family.

JANE  hope Frankie remembers to return the jar and lid. Someone put a canning jar on the table in the laundry room. That table is where we can put things we no longer want so I took it and washed it. Now next year if I get the cukes from my son I can make at least 1 jar of pickles.

PATRICIA  things slowed down here with the covid untill the college's opened. All of them ended up with a lot of cases. Those students got together with no masks and no distance either. Thay are  all in their rooms now in isolation. The colleges would not let them travel home. Would have spread it to more others.

BUBBLE  I will check the new site later. I have some pictures from the old SN.

AMY  I do know where you got  those seeds. I was hoping one of you would take the hint and send me a few. ;)

LLOYD  hope you wake with out the headache today.

JOY  like you I cannot stand at the stove to cook anything. I am not very active anymore so have no appetite.

PHYLLIS  Hope you had a wonderful birthday. Sorry I neglected to wish you a happy one a couple of days ago. I really am slipping.

Have a good day and stay safe.

GLORIA, I got one crook neck pumpkin from my daughter this year and it's already cooked and frozen and I didn't save the seeds because I know I'll get another pumpkin next year.  However, I asked her if she can save the seeds from one that she cooks and give them to me.  If she does, you're first on my list.  But keep reminding me.  I tend to forget things more and more.  Actually, I have you on my list.  But reminders wouldn't hurt!

It's almost time for the boinger to go off and then my day begins with a BANG.  Couple of errands to run and I'm picking up Cooper to save Frankie some time today since I'll be in town anyway!

I hope you all have a great day.  Make it your own in every way.  And don't forget to share it!  We miss you when you don't stop by!

NOTE:  Christy just texted.  She has seeds to share.  As soon as I get some from her, I'll send you some, GLORIA!

Good morning from another frosted Interior where it's just 30° at 8 AM. I fell asleep yesterday afternoon, woke up at 7:30, and thought it was morning! Unfortunately, that meant I was awake until early this morning. And I hate when that happens.

There was a lady in the mailroom yesterday, not wearing a mask. She was telling one of the security people that it wasn't some pandemic but the flu. The only folks really effected were those immune suppressed. She was upset because they had just given her the slip for large fines applied for not wearing a mask. You are allowed two and then are told to vacate the premises. In this building with disabled tenants, they're really strict. No one allowed inside except for essential workers, and office staff works offsite. All visitors must remain outside the building.

And so goes my morning meanders. And to think I once felt sorry for those without a life. 🤷‍♀️

Good morning

I got tied up and didn't get back. We had a blast shopping yesterday and we both stocked up on items that keep and will be hard to get.

Laundry today, not sure if weather will permit hanging out.
Another pot of baked beans and mix with the pot I made yesterday and can them.

Gloria, I see Jane is getting you some seeds. I sent you photos of the traveler. Lots of big beautiful flowers on it.

Bubble, I sent you photos to see. You would have a wee bit of a jungle in your home.

Patricia,I don't understand why people just don't get it. I think the fines should be huge as the slap on the hand fine is just not working.

Talking with son on the phone , he is sitting outside with a coffee . He has a stuffed turkey in the smoker for 10 hrs

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, slept late  this morning and feel rested.

JANE  thank you for the thought.  I do like a squash pie but never liked the taste of pumpkin and yet they almost look the same. If I keep reminding you, you will think I am a nag. That is something I never was. Oh WOW you Christy is a great as her Mom is.

PATRICIA  in this building we have to wear a mask when we go out of our aartments. Anyone coming to visit must have a mask on and sign into a book in the lobby. T hen if anyone in here comes down with the covid they can know who we have seen and can track the source. Most of us us in here have no car so those with cars are the ones going out often. I went out for a walk yesterday and met 3 new tenants, don't really know what they look like because of the masks.

AMY  I have not checked email since yesterday. Yesterday my daghter and SIL took a ride to see the Aspens in their gold autumn beauty. I know they will take pictures and expect to see some in my email soon. We have white Birch trees here and the trees look almost like the Aspens but leaves are  different.

Had my coffee and now it is time to get my breakfast, getting hungry.

Have a good day and mask up and stay safe.

Pics reminded me of "Little Shop of Horrors", stage play and movie, where the nerdy guy finds this unusual plant in the flower shop where he works and it keeps growing and growing, because of its "diet".  The nerdy guy names the plant Audrey II as the girl he likes is named Audrey.  Yes, Bubble, I would definitely NOT plant these seeds in a pot, especially for indoors!

Good morning from a cool, frosty Interior at 29° this morning. We are expected to drop down into the teens and twenties today and into next week.

There are three outside doors to this building, Gloria, and one is to the walled-in dog park. There is a back door operated by a key fob that automatically locks behind you. And there is the main entrance. You push a button if you're a visitor to come into the vestibule, and there is a small wall unit where you can tap in the apartment number of who you want to visit. Residents have their key fobs to enter the building.

Pre COVID-19, a visitor enters in your apartment number, and your intercom rings. You can set it up to open the outside door or not. The visitor then enters the security/maintenance/mail offices. A security person asks them who they're visiting and intercoms the resident who must come down to escort the visitor. These days, no visitor enters the building, and all mail, deliveries, etc. stay in the office, and the resident is notified for pickup.

There are cameras in all public areas, and yes, masks are required in all public areas, or you're fined as I mentioned.  If you have a television, you can use the channel that lets you watch the closed circuit viewing of the public areas. Amy, the fines are $150.00 the first time and $175.00 the second with eviction the third time. If you forget your key fob, it's $50.00 to be let in your apt. and $200.00 to replace a lost keyfob.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm late getting here this morning.  I've discovered that none of my sent mail has gone to the "sent" box.  It's just been floating around inside my computer for a couple of years.  When I couldn't send my shopping list to Cathy last night, I decided to reboot and see if it went.  It not only went the two times I sent it, everything I've sent for the past two or so years showed up in my sent box.  I've been spending all my time deleting all those sent messages!  And of course, I had to read some of them.  I'm still not finished but I'm wondering if the pics of new baby Michael are in this box now.  I'm sure BUBBLE didn't get them or she'd have posted them.

BUBBLE, I had a good laugh about growing a crook neck pumpkin in a pot!  And I'd be willing to bet my Dad is laughing in heaven about even trying to do that!  You could see from AMY'S pics how funny it was!

You'll never guess what Cathy found at WM this morning!  2 dozen pint jars!  I've had them on my list every week with a note following that if she found them, I'd be ecstatic!  I AM ECSTATIC!

Now I'm going to make a trip to the Farmers Market and see if I can get some beets to pickle!  I'd almost given up on that project.

GLORIA, Christy will probably bring the seeds the next time she comes up to visit near the end of this month!  You want to plant them as early in the Spring as the weather permits.  They have a long growing season.  And the pies do taste better made with these.  In fact, I'm hard pressed to choose between one of these pies and a pecan pie!

I better get back on my horse!  Lots more to accomplish today including vacuuming and swiffering.  I have to keep these new floors up to par!  And, while there doesn't seem to be as much dust without the carpets, there is still some accumulation so I'll keep a dust cloth handy.

I hope you are all having a great day!  Do whatever makes you the happiest!  And do it as it suits your fancy!  But don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

:hello: Summersun, join right in please :)

Janie,   :pineapple:  :pineapple: bet you did the happy dance as they are like finding hens teeth anymore!! I have beans in the pressure canner letting off steam before the Hawaiian dance takes place.

Laundry did dry on the line before the rain and I sure hope to get the beans canned  before power failure if it happens.

Patricia, I had to go back into town for Kyle's meds and the traffic is horrific . They have been told to stay home but I think you could teach a dog or even a cat to stay before people listen. :knuppel2:

Better go see if we have a wiggle going on the canner..

Good afternoon, Friends.

WELCOME ,  Summersun !!!  So nice to see a new "face" here.  Please join in and let us know a little bit about you.  How did you find our friendly group.

It is a pretty sunny day here in Central Maryland with the temperature neat 70 degrees.   There is a community "Thank You" day going on and they sure have a beautiful day for it.  Lots of activities going on to show appreciation to our businesses along  Main St. and a concert in out little community park, right in front of our building.  I would have loved to go out, but I would have to walk all the way to the front of the building to get outside.  Since I am all the way in the back of the building, it is quite a walk for me.  I miss out on a lot of things because I just get so tired when I have to go out front.  But, I am sure it is very crowded.  They were offering lots of good deals and lots of prizes and food and other hand-outs.  soglad that they have a such a nice day.

Patricia,  your building  really have some strict restrictions !  If we lose our fob, it is only $35 to replace it. And, if you forget the fob, there usually is someone sitting either outside or in the lobby that will let you in.  We are not supposed to let anyone in that we don't know who it is. But, there are a lot of people who will let a delivery person in. We also have a call box outside where a visitor can punch in my apartment number and it will ring my phone and I can push the number "9"  on my phone and it opens the door.   We don't have any kind of security person who is in the lobby.  On weekends, there is nobody in the office.  And, there are a lot of the residents who do not wear their masks all the time.  And, nobody says anything.  I think a lot of people don't think it is all that important anymore.  This is an independent living facility and not any seriously sick people.  But, still, the governor has issued that masks are required  outside and inside places all the time.

I slept in later this morning, so that means the day will fly by.  Already mid-afternoon.

Sounds like most everybody is having a busy Saturday.  I am in the process of writing a grocery order and need to set up my delivery time for tomorrow.

Hope the rest of your day is a safe and good one.

Joy

Hi Joy, thanks for mentioning the callbox. I think that's what we have as you hear the chirp on the intercom and dial 9 to speak to someone. Supposedly the higher prices are to deter people from being careless. The regular nine to five, you could go to the office to have someone let you in. Tenants used to let anyone in but they put a stop to that in 2018.

The $50,00 fee was for after hours, which is all the time presently. Maintenance crews work in all seven buildings, so they can't come right away or immediately late at night. That may be part of the reason. There is a large chain-link fence around the strip of lawn at the back of the building, and the dog park is walled in so they are security conscious or the previous owners were. It may be because this is in an industrial area or that the building is next to the river. This building is five floors, takes up the entire block and the first floor has patios rather than balconies.

There is a room that the vestibule opens into that has mailboxes on the right, and there is a lobby area and a kitchen open 24/7 before C-19. They've locked the kitchen and removed the chairs and loungers. The main office and tenant assistance offices are to the left. In the center is a large staffed curved counter with maintenance and security offices behind. This is where all freight, boxes, deliveries, or visitors go. Right now, everything is locked, but there are two security people at the counter. For maintenance, you call a number, and they take the info, and if its an emergency, they'll call someone. Otherwise, it goes on a list.

There are five library/craft rooms, one on each floor that they removed all the tables and chairs from and locked. Also removed was the seating by the elevators. They are becoming insistent about wearing masks and taking particular notice about wearing them in one of the five laundry rooms or four elevators. Since we are presently running between 40 to 60 new cases daily in town or perhaps someone here was a victim, that may be why the lockdown since last March. We certainly, to my mind, pay enough that we should be safe. But as you said, there are always the inconsiderate ones.

I wish I had known, a couple years ago, those of you who do so much canning.  I had a rather large box filled with canning jars, some good lids.  During a garage cleanout, I gave them to one of the charity pickup groups. Bet I had a couple dozen at least.  I keep too much stuff anyway, hate to throw stuff out.  All the charity groups here, Paralyzed Veterans, Leukemia&Lymphoma, Foundation for the Blind, make monthly pickups of clothing, household goods, etc.  They did take a month or so off when the first lockdown came.  But they are back now.  I think they are all affiliated, but have trucks with different logos on them.

We've gone back to summer so my ambition flew the coop. My rooms/closets are full of all seasons of clothes and it makes me frazzled to see so much clutter. I had to drag back out what I put away from summer stuff. Would like to make one trip to MO to see the trees changing, before having the RV winterized. Pool still open so must clean out leaves every day. Where is Mary Poppins when you need her????  Sweet dreams and God Bless... Love ya' all. Shirley

Well, another gorgeous day has ended.  The temperature was in the low to mid 70s most of the day today and I didn't even need a jacket to take the doggies for walks.

I was checking my shopping receipt after Cathy left and either the clerk made and error or Cathy got charged for one of my boxes of jars.  I texted her and told her to check her receipt and if the jars aren't on it, I'm going in and pay for them.  Cheap is good but free is unfair!  I guess my Mama taught me good because I can't just accept it.  I have to make it right!

Now I'm going to hit the hay.  The last few nights, I've been sleeping really well and I hope it keeps up!  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Oops! forgot to say WELCOME SUMMERSUN! Come back and visit with us more.  Where are you from?

Good morning everyone, 52 now but not supposed to get much above 60 today. a nice day to go out for a little walk. Tomorrow we  are supposed to get some rain from that hurricane that was in the Gulf. We sure could use some good rain. It has been many years since we were in drought conditions here. Yesterday when my son came for his Saturday visit he brought me some lasagna he made and it  was yummy. So good for a change. If I ate like  that more often maybe I would gain a pound or 2? I would like  that.

BUBBLE  thanks for the ride to photos, had to chuckle about growing one of those crooked necks in a big pot. Maybe in one of those huge old wash tubs?

PATRICIA  we have 2 doors, back and front that we use a fob to get into the building. We also have  the button panel in the entry way for visitors to use and we can release the door on a number on our phones. We have one elevator that gets a lot of use and 2 stairways at either end of the building. An emergency door at the bottom of them.  If anyone tries to go out that way all the bells and whistles go off. We can still let family visitors and the CNA's can come in. Thank God for that, I don't know what I would do without Yvette 5 days a week. Week ends are bad enough with no help. Of course this coming Monday is a holiday here so I will not see her till Tuesday. If we forge the key to our apartments and management has to let us in it costs $25. I had an extra one made-a no no by the manager-but I keep it in my wallet, have not used it yet and hope I never do. We also have cameras in all the hallways. The manager can see them on a monitor in the corner of her office. I noticed it once when I was down there for my yearly interview.

JANE  glad your daughter found some pint jars. Now for the pickled beets. Like you I love pecan pies with some whipped cream on top. Then I love a good home made pie of almost anykind.

SUMMERSON20  welcome to the Soda Shoppe. Love the big maple tree for your avatar. Come back often and tell us a bit about yourself. We are like a big cyber in here and love new members.

JOY  we don't  have anyone here on week ends either. The maintenance has an apartment here but on Friday after he is done he leaves to a place he owns in Conn. If he stays here someone always wants him to do something. Of course we are all happy when the witch is not here. We all behave but no waiting for her to knock at our door to come in. Same here not leing anyone in we don't know but a few will open the door for anyone.

SHIRLEY  next week I will have Yvette help me change summer and winter clothes around. Been getting all the summer ones washed and folded nice to put in the big bins I have. With one closet that is not that big no room for every thing.

Have a good day stay safe and wear a mask.

Good morning..

We are also to have lovely weather for today, then rain on Mon. A day of rest other than stuffing Mr Tom T Turkey and labeling the baked beans and putting them in the basement.

Kyle is still using the walker, but said he feels a little better. He pulled a groin muscle the other day. Boy, that walker is getting a lot of use this month!

It has been a while since I have listened to the loons, I think they have taken off south. The geese are still here  flying about but they too will soon be gone.

Gloria, I love lasagna. Maybe Yvette can make some for you to have on hand. I have slowly been bringing the winter wear out but know the  complete transition is going to be soon.

Better get a move on...my attem stayed in bed so it will be a push day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe plese.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up or a bit but Mickie had turned in to a "slug-a-bed" since we lost Annie.  She doesn't get up until I've had my feet on he floor for a bit.  Then she's very patient to wait for me to get dressed and ready to go out with her.

AMY, did I miss it or didn't you post the results from your Dr. visit about your leg?  I don't remember "hearing" the results.

I've been having thoughts of candy making flit through my mind and I've already begun to stockpile the makings.  That's my next project.  I have to have everything that goes to my sister, niece and nephew done by the time Bethany leaves college for Thanksgiving.  They will not be coming back after Thanksgiving but finishing the semester remotely.  So my only possible transport is when she leaves to go home.  And I have some shopping to do for my sister that needs to be included in that transfer.

Right now, the boinger is going off and it's time for breakfast, then a nice long walk with Mickie and I'm sure the paper is on the porch by now.  So I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe.  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good morning, cloudy and 39° this morning in the Interior. I've been up a while but another late night so today's starting out slow.

Gloria, we don't have a release button on our phones. I think management might balk at that. The office and security officials have public area monitors and the TV closed-circuit channel available to tenants with a television. Otherwise, there is just the intercom and call box.

Anyone coming into this building has to go through security. The door opens directly into their offices. They do allow essential workers, and police and emergency must have a master key. This building was owned by a private company that pulled out, and the state purchased all privately owned seven buildings, so it no longer has several of the past amenities we enjoyed. It is independent living for disabled seniors, all one-bedrooms except for twenty studios for the more handicapped.

Jane, you're doing a lot of what I used to do before I fell in November 2014. I miss it and wish I could spirit some of your energy and or goodies. I used to be a whiz kitchen wise, but now, like Gloria, it's only a memory. I did purchase the makings for chocolatey chocolate fudge and divinity last grocery shop, so that I will make that for a few Christmas gifts. I do love to read what you and Amy get up to!

Amy, I've made several loaves of bread from the yeast you sent me, thanks! The last was a chewy, honey-sunflower seed loaf. I ate some pieces of it with butter while it was still hot and felt stuffed but loved it! I hope you hear back soon and with good news.

Welcome, Summersun, to our wild & crazy world! For sure this is the place for world wide news, if you want to hear about daily life of Seniors & their Friends! You will get sympathy if you tell about a problem, a little teasing and few giggles at our "human" goofs. One way or another we all have something in common, right Kids?

The palm of my hand keeps itching, my mother used to say, "going to get some money".... 2 days and no pennies from Heaven here.

Amy, my Dr appointment was see if oxygen would help my being so short winded. He wants me to do a sleep test next & then we'll talk again. I was borderline with what showed this time. Told him I am hoping to delay replacing the aortic valve again so soon because a better one is being tested & I'd rather wait for it. After all, we do have other working parts in the body. If you go to a doc that does stents, you get stents, if one does by-passes you get by-passes & we seem to have an over ambitious one that likes to replace valves. Anyway, my oxygen went down to 72 in CO before it settled a little higher the rest of the week. On this flat land it is staying at 90-94, before they replaced the valve it was always at 99 or 100. Anyway, I hate to be a whiner so will not go in about the knee. Having my pity-party all by myself.

About every other day we see waves of robins migrating through, they are such happy birds. I've been keeping the bird bath full since they remember where to clean up every year. They are really vocal, I'm sure they recognize the house. They "bark" at the cats but have a different chirp for me. The monarch butterflies are gone, haven't even seen a stray for more than a week. Fish have gone to deeper water, one ate a little bread last night but the whole lot of big catfish & carp are gone for the winter. Still a few egrets and herons straggling around. None of the birds could hang onto a tree limb today the way the wind is blowing.

#1 son will be here soon to check the leak at the sand filter for the sprinkler system. We are very try this year, not sure any of the grass going down to the river will survive the winter if we don't get some rain soon. The beaver cut down a few trees yesterday, I noticed. One was about half chewed off so guess I caught him in the act. It was a bigger than usual tree. Hope he got it down because it looked like the wind could blow it over if not. I'll take a camera down that has more zoom than my phone one. With this bum knee I'm NOT going to hike to get a closer shot. It is harder to go down the hill than to come back up but hurts worse to bend and sit.

And that's my world in Kansas today. Sun is bright & mid 80s... summer is hanging on. Gloria, I'm still thinking about Regina having aspen trees. I miss getting to see them in CO. We hit peak season a few years ago so have some gorgeous photos. I think my gallery has some so will see about posting.

Hi, Patricia, I had to stop and look out, sounds like the house could blow away. Just straight winds with no tornado but whistling down the oven vent!  :hello:  :walkwhistle:

Good Afternoon, Everyfriend,

Summersun,  Welcome from Oklahoma - straight down I-35 south of Shirley.  If I'm gauging the time difference correctly I'm assuming you may be somewhere in the British Isles.  If so,  I hope you're sleeping well and having pleasant dreams.  :)

Shirley, robins must have gone around or haven't gotten this far, yet.  I need to fill the sunflower feeder but the wind is also "whistling down the plain" here.

Finally finished the album for #2 son - 68 pages of pictures from their 20 year marriage. I cropped and "shaped" some pictures and added "stickers" to most pages for decoration.  Also found a way to print/cut out various icons (like opposing team logos or logos for geographic locales)to add.  They do (did :'( ) a LOT of traveling - mostly to Bowl games in which OKState played or Mexico and the Bahamas to snorkel and scuba dive. Pages for their 20th Anniversary are of a "staycation" playing miniature golf.

Have no idea what the next project will be - probably another family history story.

Our morning paper is now printed across the state in Tulsa which has meant not reading about my Sooners' football games until Monday.  Presses must have been held for yesterday's "Red River Blowout" with Texas because it set a record with four overtimes. Could have gone into 5 if not for an intercepted pass. (Sooners won!!).  (I really miss my S&F Texas friend with whom I always had a bet for this game. He would have owed me Big Time for yesterday!)

Off to do the daily word puzzles and crosswords in that same paper.

Patricia, I am happy it came in handy. My neighbour just made a Artisan loaf in her cast iron pot and oh my it looks so good!!  I miss the gentle teasing between Callie and Hal..that was priceless!

Shirley, I hope your Dr comes up with results that suit you. I know my friend has difficulty breathing and is on 4 puffers /inhalers and I keep telling her a wee bit of oxygen just might help with her breathing or at least make it easier for her. Earlier I went out to feed the crows and  one was flying over head... hovered overhead and I could hear the wind in his wings......flew off into the pine tree while I put feed out.

Hello Everyfriend!  I think I accomplished a lot but I had to do it in jigs and jogs because I kept forgetting things and having to backtrack.  I got my papers and bottles all ready to go to the recycling and was opening the door to go put them in the car when I realized that today is the second SUNDAY not the second SATURDAY.  So I put Mickie in the car instead and went to WM to get an ink cartridge for my printer.  I stopped printing 15 minutes after Cathy dropped off my groceries yesterday!

And I spend about a half hour on the phone with my niece who always orders candy to give to friends and work associates at Christmas.  I didn't think she'd want to do it this year and she said "no" first and as we talked, she decided that everyone she gives it to would be disappointed if they didn't get it this year so she's doing her usual order.  I have to have I ready the Tuesday before Thanksgiving because that's when my grandniece goes home from the nearby college.  Then I also give them some for their family so I have to have that ready early.

Guess the Christmaas candy is about to take over my kitchen now that the canning is just about done.  I am going to get some beets at the Farmers Market on Wednesday and do them but I can get the centers mixed and in the fridge.

Noe I'm getting hungry.  Mickie already ate but I wasn't ready when she was so we took our last walk before dark and now I'm ready.  Keep on keeping on!

Almost forgot,  SHIRLEY when our palms would itch my Gramma always asked which one it was.  It always means you're going to get money but if it's you left palm you won't get to keep it!

Well, shucks, Jane, it's the left one & can see all the ways it can leave my possession, winterizing the pool & RV for starters. Thanks for the warning!  I'm off to bed before the phone rings again. The oldest son was here this afternoon to fix the sand filter for the sprinkler system, noticed one sprinkler head was not doing it's job so replaced it with the last of the spares & I'll have to order more. Not sure he will call again tonight. Been a long day.

We had quite a lot of winds 💨 here today and boy did the temperatures drop rapidly.  Mother Nature is doing her best to get the leaves to dry up and fall off of our beautiful trees before the snow flakes begin to fall❄️

Enjoy the rest of your evening and pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning.

If weather permits we may get some raking done today. The pines and the cedar have shed their needles and old growth.

Shirley , loved your photos and commented over there.

Jenny, thank you. We had our quiet Thanksgiving yesterday. Today we eat the leftovers!! The BEST part in my thoughts. Due to Kyles immune system or rather lack of it we kept quiet . Dogs also had a turkey dinner and boy they sure licked it up!
Turkey was such a good price I did pick up an extra one and will boil that one up for the dogs.

Lloyd, have you scrolled back to read all the messages?

Callie, you're welcome...I always enjoyed the posts between you and Hal on betting on the games.

Jane, me too! Not my driving leg thank goodness but I don't trust it to do the stairs properly, I do one step at a time. :(

Better go check the fire......could be a good day to make bread too!

Take care and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We had rain most of the night and you could almost hear the ground slurping it up!  We sure do need it!

I have a little thing to share with you.  I was out walking with Mickie yesterday and when I'm out weird things go through my mind.  There are 3 houses on my side of the street on my block.  Mine is the last one on the dead end....

On Wednesday of last week, ANDY, the electrician was at my house.
On Thursday and Friday, CANDY, my next-door neighbor's daughter visited her from Maryland.
Friday, my friend's friend SANDY arrived from Michigan for a visit with her.
It occurred to me that we're just having a DANDY week on our block!

Now I'm off to the showers because I have to pick up Cooper to keep Mickie company while I see a movie with Mavis and Sandy!  It's Sr. Citizen's Day.  You all have a good day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your good friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Good morning everyone, a whole 45 this morning and will not get out of the 50's even with the sunshine. Now the forecast calls for the rain to start tomorrow. The weather guessers keep changing the day. Turned the heat up  and it is starting to feel warmer in here now. Did not need it yesterday.

AMY  I love lasagna, too, I wonder if Yvette can make it I sure will not thaw all the sauce I have in the freezer to make it and would never use the jar stuff, to me it never tastes good, maybe I am too fussy with flavor? My "at em" deserted me several years ago and every day is push day now. How  is your leg doing? Have you heard what is wrong yet?

JANE  remember how busy the NEST was in those days before SN shut us out? This SS used to be busy, too. Wonder what happened to those who posted here and suddenly disappeared. I used to stock up on coo‪kie and candy making before Thanksgiving and start making after Thanksgiving. Wanted to get the box mailed to San Diego early enough for them to get it in time for Christmas. Then would get sta rted for the ones for my 2 sons and their families. I still miss doing it but that's life.

SUMMERSUN  nice seeing you again, come back and talk more to this cyber family. We are a caring group and worry about each other when someone is missing.

PATRICIA we push the #6 on our phones to open the door into the lobby. The one wanting in has to ID to us so we know who it is.

SHIRLEY  depends wha thand is itchy. Right you are going to meet someone new-left money. A  least my legs are OK but oh my aching back!! 3 days in a row with no back massage with the Hempvana. I think that will be the first thing Yvette does tomorrow. My daughter did send a couple of pics she took of the Aspens. She said seeing them up close she could see the difference of the bark on them and the white birch we have, of course the leaves are very different.

CALLIE  I noticed the time on Summersun's post and the good evening and wondered where she lives.Since they cut  down all the pines in the back don't see birds or deer going through anymore there and the witch will not let anyone put food in front for them no more in the front either, even the hummigbird feeders, she said they made a mess. We really enjoyed them. I remember your bet  with your Texas friend and the Yankee dime.

PATRICIA  Oscar helped me a lot when I started in SN and Larry heled me a lot too, when we started here. Hal sening so many jokes and seeing him on Skype.

AMY don' t see ot hear many crows around here.

LLOYD  hope you slept good last night.

JENNY  good thing you posted, almost ready to send a search group for you.

BUBBLE  thanks for the ride to photos.

SHIRLEY wonder how  the beavers can move a  tree as big as that one. Love the beautiful Peace Rose.

LLOYD  no one would hit you with anything but a wet noodle and that  would never hurt anyone.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Welcome, Summersun.  Love your username.

Still dreary and cloudy here in North Carolina but I think the rain has moved on.  I certainly hope that there will be no more hurricanes hitting the U.S. this season.  The poor people down on the Gulf have had enough.

Laundry today and a phone call to tussle with the bank.  I hope I can correct a mistake that THEY have made.  It doesn't help my confidence when the bank makes an error with MY money.  sigh  :(

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the
cool (55 degs F) and cloudy,
rocky coast of Maine.

Now that I have finally got
my apt organized,  I am looking
for things to do daily, after
I finish my meager morning chores,
such as bed making, clearing the kitchen
sink and taking shower etc...

I suppose that I could just start
over and redo everything, one more time...

Shirley,  I am sorry to hear that
you are looking forward to yet another
heart procedure,  and sleep study?
Yikes,  but we do what we have to do
to keep time passing easily.
Best wishes to you.
Perhaps it is better for you
to get this done sooner rather than
later when covid could return and mess
things up for you ...

I wish everyone a good,  safe, covid free
day...

Hugs to all
Sandy

Happy Columbus Day...

Do you do anything special for this day?

Good morning from an Interior with a nip at 24° and clear. It's 9:23, and all I've done is tidy up and feed Farrah and myself. I do need to return to downtown and return the ankle boots I purchased Thursday. Otherwise, a loaf of bread and a beef roast in the slow cooker, and that's all on tap for today. Tomorrow my new sheets and towels are due so that this week will have all kinds of excitement. How ever, will I handle it? 🤷‍♀️

Amy, glad you, Kyle, and the dogs enjoyed your holiday, and I know what you mean about leftovers. Here, the standard sale is to purchase over $100.00 in groceries and get a free turkey close to November's Thanksgiving. I usually go that route as the turkeys are smaller. I don't really celebrate Columbus Day. He was hardly the first or the last and not much to write home about.

Gloria, do you push 6 on your cell or an intercom? I had several guys helping me with PSP and animations; I'd never known about it before. I only took photos before that and still have my Nikon and my Canon, but they are six years old now and very out of date. Plus, I no longer have strength or agility in my hands, so my cell phone is used more. Rae and Bunny were wonderful about showing a newbie the ropes. My only earlier computer use was in the office using the specific programs and closed systems related to those positions.

Sandy, I did so much clearing, donating, and trashing back in 2016 that everyone believed I was moving out. This past spring, I did a mini organize, and it has made such a difference! Now all the donation places are closed, even the recycling centers. What shocked me is that the homeless center where I used to volunteer announced it was closing! It was always filled, and I wonder where those people will go in winter like ours in the arctic?

I know the two homes for emotionally disturbed and handicapped youth are open, plus a shelter for homeless teens. I understand, a building housing adults with mental issues who can't live on their own, only in a structured environment, because the bus goes past it. And there are seven studios here on the main floor for mentally challenged adults. Perhaps the city or state has a plan? I need to find out because I can not believe they'd dump a vulnerable part of the population.

Good morning Phyllis, I know what you mean about banks or any financial institution. I hate dealing with that.

Hello Everyfriend!  I went to my first movie since before Christmas with my "down-the-street" friend.  We saw "War With Grandpa".  It was pretty funny and had a good ending!

When I got home, I didn't feel like doing anything so I didn't.  I just took the dogs for a couple of walks in the rain and fed them and me and watched a little TV until Frankie came and picked up Cooper.  She feels better today and never did have any fever so I guess it wasn't the virus.

We've had a rainy day most of the day and it's supposed to last most of tomorrow, too.  It sure is dreary!  Now I'm going to hit the hay and try to get a few more than 40 winks in!  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, it  is raining at last and looks like more than the drizzles we have been getting that is too little to even measure. When I pulled up the shades and looked out it is bouncing off the pavement. Even with all the rain we had during the winter we are 10 3/4" short for the year. This is supposed to keep up all day and through most of the night. Yippie.

PHYLLIS  hope you get a chance to get dry before it rains again there. Those people along the Gulf coast must be ready to move by now with 2 hurricanes so close together. Good luck getting the bank straightened out.

AMY  the last few years the statues of Columbus in this state
have been defased wirh red paint or the heads on them knocked off. This year they took all the statues down and put in storage. Wth a state with a big Italian population they really celebrate the day. Seemed odd this year with no celebrations or parades. Not that I go to anything anymore.

PATRICIA  if all we have is a cell phone we push the 6 on that or if we have only a landline we use that. These days more people just have cell phones. No intercoms here. BUNNY is the one who got me started in PSP. I still miss not using it anymore.

JANE  glad you enjoyed the movie yesterday. Last time I went to the movies was to watch the first Star Wars movie. I would not be able to sit through one anymore. Right now I think everyone here is welcoming this rain.

Have a good day and stay safe, make sure you wear a mask going out.

Good morning everyone.

Woke to the sound of a gentle rain falling. Not sure of what the day will bring but I am going to do one job that I have been putting off.....I hope. This pantry has been a catch all and it is time to straighten up!

Why is it when it is raining and the dogs have been out, they just want to hug up to you?

Gloria, hope today is the day you get your back rubbed. This has been an odd year and I hope it is never repeated!

Patricia, it is not difficult to spend that amount  in groceries anymore. Hope you can handle the excitement....just go with the flow. :)

Jane, I can't remember the last time I was to a movie. I do remember the smell of the pop corn though. Just as soon as you got inside the theater it would tickle your nose.

Better make a move...

Enjoy your day and stay safe and as Gloria said wear your masks!

Good Morning!  It's still wet out there but not raining at the moment.  The temp is in the low 50s and only heading for the mid 60s today!  It's going to be another dreary day but I can't complain because we sure do need the rain.  The ground is still slurping up the water!

My day for today is going to be "as it happens".  I do want to get to the hardware store to have them trim the two boards I already bought and buy one more for the white shelf unit.  I also have a trip to Fairview Country Store on my agenda for some day this week and maybe today will be the day.

I have to cook up the turkey burger that I got for making dog food and my plan is to keep enough out to make a small meatloaf for supper and another meal.  Also want to do some scalloped potatoes.  I've been hungry for them for so long, I forgot when it started.

Cooper won't be coming over for the next couple of days because Frankie is off so Mickie will travel with me wherever we go.

I guess I better get started or nothing will get done....again!  It's almost time for the boinger anyway!  Enjoy your day Everyfriend1  Make it your own in every way!

In No. Carolina it is not called Columbus Day anymore.  It is Indigenous People's Day.  And since it was a holiday for the bank I'm dealing with them today and hoping to get things straightened out.

Cloudy and foggy this morning.  I will probably go back to bed after I get through with the bank.  I didn't sleep much last night.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a dark, cool Interior at 26° heading for a high of 35° today. Yesterday I got my shopping done while feeling somewhat out of sorts. I returned the shoes and purchased some odds and ends and back home only to go back to bed and sleep. Today, I feel so much better.

Gloria, we don't have anything connected to our phones per apt, just the closed-circuit TV that I haven't seen as I don't own one. I like living here; I wish one of the large groceries was in town and not at one of the malls.

A graph from NOAA's Centers for Environmental Information illustrates that we had 113 inches of rain this summer that blasted any earlier record we might have had. And, "As Siberia remains in the headlines for record-setting heatwaves and wildfires, Alaska is experiencing the rainiest five years in its century-long meteorological record. Extreme weather on both ends of the spectrum—hot and dry versus cool and wet—is driven by an aspect of climate change called Arctic amplification. As the earth warms, temperatures in the Arctic rise faster than the global average." This summer, we rarely saw the sun, but from late September and so far, October, it's been lovely but cooler.

Amy, I'll try, but that excitement shivers through me thinking of all the exciting things in my life. Just think, I still have that loaf of bread and roast for today!  :smitten:   :)

I would love to have another cat for Farrah or even another dog for me. Both of us are getting restless, and I think Farrah would love the company! Unfortunately, we are allowed only one pet, twenty pounds or under.

Got a bunch of stuff done today including, making dog food, making dinner, going to Fairview Country Store, getting gas in the car, getting my boards cut the right size, walking Mickie 3 walks (or does she walk me?).  I also made some necessary phone calls.

When we went out the last time we found a little pumpkin and a plastic bag of Hershey's Kisses on the porch.  It had a note written around it's stem "Say a prayer every day for hungry children"  And there was a note attached, "A prayer pumpkin for you. Say a prayer every day. Hugs and kisses from St. Andrew's"  That's my church.  I never heard them come and I was home when someone left it!  That was so nice!

Now I'm going to find that haystack again.  I'm really tired tonight and there's lots I want to do tomorrow.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Day is done, gone the sun............and Shirley is heading to bed. Not much to show for my day but it is time to shut down. These days in the 80s are wearing me down. Had lots of leaves & dirt to clean out of the pool from wind & dust yesterday (whine-whine). I changed clothes over & over, cold when cleaning the pool, cleaned up to shop, back to summer work out clothes & now eager to jump into pjs.... Wishing all sweet dreams, God Bless and BRING ON FALL!

I'm up but not so sure about the "attem" part of it.  Sometimes things just get to me and this morning seems to be one of those days!  Maybe it'll get better!

I have to make a trip to the Amish Store. There are some things for my candy making that are cheaper there than anywhere else and I can't even justify the difference with the gas.  So maybe today is the day for that.  And the Farmers Market is on the way so one last stop there.  I still need some beets and now I have the jars to do them in!

We'll see what the day brings.  I think that might be a song for "Sound of Music".

I hope you all have a better day than yesterday!  GLORIA, get rid of that film!

Lloyd, good to see your post.

Gloria, hope you feel better soon.

Shirley, now I am humming.......day is done.............gone the sun ..from the hills from the sky.........all is well..

Better get a move on it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

At last some sun!  That might help elevate the mood around here.  And the fact that I finally got a good night's sleep helps, too.

A few household chores to do today since I was a recliner radish (acccording to Callie) yesterday.  I was supposed to go for my annual eye exam but I canceled and I can't say I'm sorry.  I'll reschedule for a later date.

Take care, All.

AMY, you forgot the lake....

Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hill, from the sky.

All is well, safely rest. God is nigh!

There's only one lake, one hill and one sky in that song because only one Indian is singing it and that's all he can see.  Everyone puts an "s" on those words....unless you were a Girl Scout who learned or sang the song in Indian territory!

I got my bank account up to date so the cops aren't going to come after me.  I think this might be a day for doing "sitty-around" things.  I didn't go to the Farmers Market or the Amish store and I'm not going to do that either.  Maybe the Amish Store tomorrow.  I try to avoid it on Saturday...too busy!

OK. What's next?

We would sing this when our meeting had come to a close...good memories.

Can you tell I am not getting THAT job done. I do have bread on the go but it is such a lovely day I think raking leaves has more promise of getting done than THAT job. :)

Do you ever have times when you've put off things and all of a sudden everything needs to happen on ONE day??!!  I need to clone me for Thursday! At least the knee is better this morning, think I will survive but no dancing a jig just yet.

Gotta shower & wash hair before starting this day. Up a little after 1:00 AM with a problem so did a Google to solve it, back to sleep until after 8:00 am, called my friend I was to meet for lunch on Thurs, we changed plans to suit both of us better & now I'm only concerned with half a dozen other problems. What is life without problems???

Don't know where "Day is Done" came from but kept going through my head so wanted to share.  ;D   Isn't that also the words to Taps?

I didn't get down to the river last night, phone calls kept me busy until dark. I may need to start going down in the morning since the fish won't be around anyway. Used to be so many birds stopping by on their way south, morning is their fav time to visit.

The true story
A general in the Union Army decided that he didn't like the existing boring bugle call that signaled "lights out".

He came up with a new tune and whistled it to his brigade bugler. Together they modified the tune, scribbling the notes on the back of an envelope until they had something that the general liked.

The bugler was ordered to play the tune that night. The song was heard by nearby brigades, who sent their buglers to learn the tune. Before long, this song was the regulation "lights out" signal throughout the Union Army.
