Lonely Boy
(Paul Anka/Joe Dowell)

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love

Someone, yes, someone to love, someone to kiss
Someone to hold at a moment like this
I'd like to hear somebody say
"I'll give you my love each night and day"

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love

Somebody, somebody, somebody, please send her to me
I'll make her happy, just wait and see
I've prayed so hard to the heavens above
That I might find someone to love

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do ....

Macho man

I am going to the dentist,
it sure gives me the shakes.
Guess I'm just a wimpy guy,
Ain't got what it takes.
I've tried to be a macho man,
to take it in my stride.
Heart is pounding knees are knocking,
it's something I can't hide.
Then there's a little four year old,
chirpy as can be,
Wonder of I bribe him,
if he will swap with me.
I climbed into the dentist chair,
just hate what I am facing.
I bet that he can see my beating heart,
and how fast the thing is racing.
The dentist says "you will be fine,
just you wait and see".
I though yes !, it is all right for you,
for it's you that's doing it to me.
When he had done then I calmed down,
thought, what was all the fuss about.
Once again I was a macho man,
that is when I was going out.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning to you, Bubble and a thank you for cleaning up after us and giving us a nice, new place to gather.  I enjoyed everything...the pictures, the poetry, the "music", the sayings...

Good Morning to you, too, LLOYD!  It's supposed to be hot and rainy here this afternoon.  But I'm thinking it won't matter much to me anyway.  I'll probably be sleeping and working my way out of the anesthesia!

So far, it's only up to 70º and it's not supposed to start raining until around 2 p.m.

Isn't it funny!  When you're not allowed to eat anything that's when you want it the most.  If this were a normal day, I'd have punched the button on the coffee pot and forgotten about it.  And I wouldn't even be thinking of food!  Now, it's all I can think of!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone. I am up and here but think I will have a nap soon. I should have left the ac running last night. The humidity started going up during the night and on local weat her the guesser said it would feel like mid summer today. It's mid September and we should be having lower humidity and cool refreshing air now.

AMY  if I got  a phone call asking how I voted I just might lose my temper and my Indian warpath might take over and I would  tell  them where to go after I asked how they voted.

PATRICIA  CNA's can no longer drive clients anywhere. If someome else used their car to take me out she could go along.  They are not allowed  to be in our homes alone either. If we go out the door they have to go with us. Been a long time since I had a homemaker. Only succotash I had was corn and lima beans but family did not care for it only I did so stopped getting it.

JANE  you had the same succotash I used to like.

LLOYD  already too warm here.

BUBBLE  great  graphics, love the meaning in the top one about reading. Wonder if that  is why I like to read. Thank you.

Have a good day and s tay safe.

Good morning..

We did have a storm last night but no tornado  thank goodness. Lots of rain rumbling thunder and lightening.
Thank you Jane, gave Babe the Rescue and she was fine! Did lose power but not for long.

Will finish off what I have put off , picked up plastic bins that when I clean (notice I said when no when) the food can go into them each will have a bin.

Jane, thinking about you today and prayers that all goes well.

Gloria, it was for the party I was voting for or yes they would have gotten a taste of mine. The robo calls just get hung up on.

Bubble, thank you for the lovely start page. I can relate going to the dentist as I would rather do a hard days work that go there.

Need to scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from the Interior, nothing new here, sunny cool day, a bit more color in the bushes and trees, and a bit more pronounced early morning frost on the roofs. A few household chores to see if I can get out of and a few calls to make and give away my money. In short, just another day.

Bubble thanks for the new start and I wish you a tzom kal and may you have a g'mar chatima tovah.

GOOD MORNING, EVERYFRIEND
A cool morning with a bit of a nip in the air🍂🍁

JANE, thinking about you and praying for a easy surgery.  Hope you are at home and doing well🙏

It has been a busy week.  Monday I went to my surgeons office.  They took X-rays and my new shoulder looks good to them‼️  They removed all of the bandages and liked how my wound looks. We discussed my left hip pain more and they want me to go see the surgeon that did my hip replacement back in 2011. As far as they can tell from the X-ray taken in March, the prosthetic looks good, but they see a lot of degeneration in my lower back and fear that is what causing the hip pain😩😩 I will see hip man next week and find out what he thinks.

We became the new owners of a beautiful sectional sofa yesterday afternoon. I love it, but Bob thinks it is just too big for our area😩😩

My PT had to cancel this morning.  I will see her Friday.  I will miss her not gently moving my arm as it feels so good.

GLORIA, I think I am limited on my ability to move my arm right away due to a couple of extra things they did during surgery, as I was told early on before the surgery that I would be able to move it right away.  I am sorry yours Yvette will not be back this week😩😩

AMY my shoulder is doing GREAT!  I could totally be able to use my good arm to eat any and all of the goodies you are fixing😘😘

JACKIE, belated "BIRTH" day wishes to you.  I do wish your daughter cared about the mama who gave her birth 52 years ago😩💔

I thank you BUBBLE for our nice fresh gathering spot and the goodies you shared. Happy Yom Kippur💐

I enjoyed all the bird talk and canning discussions....thank you EVERYFRIEND for sharing your stories.  I love them‼️

Enjoy your day.

Jenny

Jenny... yes it brings it on home just how the years fly...52 years and i remember the birth just like it was yesterday, well almost...

Degeneration is a word we do not want to be hearing, being on that downward slide...at least not a too long wait before you find out, and something can be done....

I hope your fasting is going well, Bubble.  I never found fasting to be easy.   ::)  But, I think it is different when it is done for your Faith.

Best wishes for a smooth recovery, Jane.

Thank you to the ONE person who apparently liked my graphic.  And thank you, Bubble, for posting it.  It's nice to see them again and be reminded of the fun times we had when the PSP group was active.

Take care, All.

Good morning..

Foggy this morning with a temp of 45°.

Need to wait around home for a Dr's call.  I have lots to do in the mean time. Had a peach crisp boil over last evening and have the "dust/ash" to clean up .

Jane, hope today is a good day for you and that everything went well yesterday.

Patricia, leaves are turning here and geese are taking their young on short flights getting ready for the long one.

Better get at that oven before the feeling goes away.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I slept away most of yesterday and today I'm taking my time and trying to figure out what I can eat.  Isn't it wierd that you can love soup until that's the only thing you can eat and then you don't want it.  I'm thinking ice cream would go down easy?

Glad to hear goood news from all...celebrations, bandage removals, getting out and getting back in, good dinners...sorry about the bad stuff, JENNY!

All went well with my surgury but not being able to eat is a bummer!

Have a good day!

Patricia, good morning to you.. I did find another job equally as nasty as cleaning the oven..I finally did the big freezer! I bought bins and now everything , meat, veggies, fruit are in in a bin of heir own. I did pick out some meats which are now roasting to can later for the dogs...one prime rib that found its way to the bottom of the freezer will soon be chopped up along with the rest of the meat, hamburg, wee roast for the dogs.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for September 15 2021
Post by: Shirley on September 16, 2021, 02:50:38 PM
Yum, Amy, can I be your dog for the day?  Prime rib my fav!!!

More work on the pool. Back to the store for one more thing but the guy waiting on me rubbed me the wrong way (and he knew it).... didn't get what I went after because he tried to pressure me into more "shock" & I already put 6 bags of that in this week. After taking care of this pool since 1988 I do know a little about what it needs & certainly not more SHOCK! I will do it my way & hope it's mellowed out when time to close for the winter!  This is the crap I knew went on when you let them diagnose problems, "chemicals to UP & chemicals to DOWM" and never a happy medium. Paint me grouchy~~

Lawn guys to be here in an hour so can't take a nap. Not quite 3 hours sleep last night, woke up with thinking about so many extra jobs lately. Gave up & got up for breakfast. Knew it would not work trying to go back to bed since lawn guys were "going to try" to work me in today. My grass isn't growing enough in a week & the guys have trouble with 10 day weeks. Even they had to agree that "it's that time of year" when it stops growing.  ::)

Glass of iced tea sounds good, need a caffeine kick. Now I know you REAL tea drinkers are cringing at the thought of iced tea (same as I do over iced coffee), but I've gotten back to keeping a pitcher full in the 'frig & nipping all day, cut out the Coke & Pepsi.

Shirley,  I'll join you for a glass of Iced Tea!  I'm not "suthren" enough to want Sweet Tea, though.  ;)

My mother liked iced coffee in the summertime but I never developed a taste for it and didn't learn to drink hot coffee until I began teaching and it was available in the teacher's lounge.
Now, I prefer tea but will drink coffee (with sweetener (or sugar) and milk (or cream)) if it's served to me at a party or a meal.

Mother also liked her coffee scalding hot.  She had a saying on her bulletin board that read "Whenever you get a mouthful of too hot coffee....whatever you do next is wrong"!
We started referring to a difficult situation as a "a mouthful of too hot coffee".

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.  Glad you feel better, Janie and hope you found something to eat!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for September 15 2021
Post by: Shirley on September 16, 2021, 05:10:31 PM
Haha, Callie, my iced tea has to have enough sugar for the spoon to stand up straight!  Hot tea is the English way, milk & spoon full of sugar (song in there).

Big ole puffy clouds look like weather moving in but radar showing zilch. Mowers just finished but too windy to turn on sprinklers right now, moisture would land clear down the street.

Ordered another type pool brush, hope this needy pool faze ends soon. Just trying to keep it up until time to close for the winter. Know that spring I will need some new parts for the pump & maybe even a new pump & motor. UGH...

Shirley, my iced tea has sugar and lemon in it. Hot tea has milk,my Dad liked his with canned milk in in. I also like rooibus tea, green tea plain or with ginger, strawberry tea, white tea  pumpkin spice tea and others..tea granny here.

I need my coffee first thing in the morning preferably with 1/2&1/2 but whole milk with work.  Then after the doggies all had an outie and we had breakfast and a walk it was time for the second cup of coffee and visit on line with friends.

My fav in the tea line is a big jar of sun tea with sugar and lemon in it...nice and cold out of the fridge.

Now that I've said that, I'm thirsty!  But I'm off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And I wish me a jaw with no sore in it tomorrow.  Most of the swelling is gone but what is still there hurts and my throat is a bit sore.  But it's healing!

Bubble , happy to see you back :smitten: !

Jane, hope today is a great day for you. Hope all the selling is gone today and your mouth is better.

Shirley, we have had days like that and rejoiced that we have an "extra" day. I find it very easy to get the days mixed up when we have had a holiday in the week.

Gloria, hope to "see" you today.

Good morning everyone, 53 when I fist looked this morning, sorry i was not here yesterday. Another update and this lemon would not work yesterday, just would not start up. Of course I called my grandson and he got here last night. I was really bummed all day. Wish I could stop those darn updates, I always have a problem after one. I never know until I go to close at  night that an update is coming when a message pops up that an update is ready and not to shut down and it does it's thing. At times I wish I never had a computer and yesterday was one of them but so glad I am here today.
The only time i drink tea is if I don't feel good and then it has to be strong. I prefer  coffee. My daughter will not drink coffee and likes her tea very weak. Odd though when she was young the only way I could get her to drink milk was to put coffee syrup in it. In this state coffee milk is THE drink. Going anywhere else in the New England states they most likely never heard of it or serve a cup of coffe with milk in it.
A couple of days ago Mike brought me a bag of  tomatoes from his garden. Yesterday the CNA I had and I blanched them and got the skin off and I made a big pan of spaghetti sauce and today hope to get it  into the freezer. No CNA today, got a call yesterday that they could not find one. Odd because the one I had Wednesday said she was wanting more hours. I sure missed Yvette this week. Wonder what  wioll happen in November when she has the first knee replacement surgery. I dread the thought. At  least I had 2 CNAs I had before and like.

JANE  hope you found something good  to eat, personaly I would opt for ice cream. Lately I have been having more ice cream than real food.

AMY  not my fault for not being here yesterday. I missed my morning coffee with my cyber family.

LLOYD  no sun here this morning, just gray sky and rain in the forecast.

Abouot time to have breakfast and then dress and get busy with that  sauce into containers for the freezer

Have a good day and stay safe.

Gloria, good to see you here and can understand the frustration with the computer.
The neighbour was over one time and I know he likes his tea weak also. Hubby asked him if he wanted him to make a pair of crutches? Neighbour wondered at that and then Kyle said your tea is so weak it can hardly get out of the cup!nMaybe crutches would help it.!

My thoughts were a LOT stronger than "Hmmm"!  I'm joining GLORIA and I don't like those updates.  There should be something simple for us oldies!

HELLO, EVERYFRIEND!  I'm in recovery!  I don't feel like I have to sit down, lie down, go to sleep, keep my mouth shut or stop eating.  Eating isn't easy yet but it's doable! And I'm doing it.  I have lots of soup on my shelves and I'm making use of it.  I actually chewed a piece of chicken from the chicken corn soup and it wasn't little!

They're leaving me alone tonight so I guess I've proved myself.  Cooper and I went for a walk and we did the full circle.  There's a little swelling yet but it's going down and it's not sore enough for painkillers.

GLORIA, you sure are going to miss Yvette when she gets her knee done.  I hope they find some good ones for you in the meantime!  Enjoy your spaghetti sauce!

When I came home from the hospital on Wednesday there was another bag of summer squazh on the porch.  We stuck it in the fridge and today I cleaned it.  If it keeps coming, I'll have squash soup for the entire neighborhood!  And my SIL texted to ask me how my venison was holding out.  When I told him, he said looks like I need to make a trip just for you!  So I guess I need to make freezer space.  That means the squash has to come out, get made into soup and canned!

My mail included a book of recipes today!  And I turned immediately to the ones for Girl Scout cookouts.  Lots of good memories in there!!

Now I'm off to see what else I can get into today!  I hope you are all having a great day!  It's beautiful in Central PA!

If I may ask, please pray for my dear Grandniece, Bridget!  She's been in the hospital since Monday and may need to undergo surgery.  She's 24 years old and a wonderful person.  I'm sure God is watching over her.

I think our big family needs lots of prayers this week, including Bridget... so time out to say "thanks" for the many good things in our lives and ask God to have mercy on our loved ones.

I do more than my share of whining and need to appreciate my many blessings, having all of you in my life is for sure a good thing. Hugs to all.  Shirley

Prayers for Bridget that all goes well, keep us posted please.

Shirley, I don't  know  about  you  but I cringe when  I see an update is needed. Can't help but think what will go wrong.

Just came in from bringing the dog comforters off the line, throwing frizzbee for the pup and picking 36 blossoms off the strawberry plants! Maybe when we get frost they will stop sending out blossoms? These are everbearing and they are living up to their name, I just hope they winter over !

I think the idea is to give you enough time to learn the current version and start to enjoy using it ------------------------- Then ---------------------Slip in a new version.  Include stuff we don't need or want, but cool M$ stuff. Make it so your old files won't work with the new version without a conversion program, or some other quirky thing for all to learn.    HUMBUG

hahahaha, glad to see you are as thrilled with Win11 as I am, Rick!  In my case I really doubt if the Windows98 original Toshiba laptop that went to 7 & on to 10, OR the Windows Vista that NEVER got updated because it still lets me play with Paint Shop Pro original version that Glenn Curtis advised me to get, will advance to 11. Computer so fragile I can't do much with it in hopes it will let me continue doing birthday cards for my family. The one that went thru so many changes is attached to the printer so hope to drag it along as long as possible.

I'm sure you'll love this news, too, Gloria! This last update on the iPhone & iPad about did me in. My daughter walked me thru getting those done, biggies!  :o

This HP laptop was a sale item when we were camping & spending a night in a Walmart parking lot before going up the mountain. Had it at least 4 years, son set it up in the parking lot & been doing a great job ever since... for the big price of $250 & touch screen, 1T.... a real bargain, I thought. Seems we not only buy groceries when spending the night getting adjusted to altitude, most years I end up needing to buy a battery for the motorhome. One year we had our reservations at the campground within the year so battery was replaced under warranty!

I think the pool is about to give in & shape up. Today I got out the big O ring in the pump to clean it off completely & put new "stuff" on it. Then I added water (using the well/sprinkler system set up to go either way), back flushed all the ickies out of the filter tank & tomorrow will get a new brush (thanks, Amazon) to fit the corners better when I brush the bottom. I still say, anyone's nuts to buy a house with a pool but I couldn't find a better buy when we were house hunting, besides, all our furniture fit this house like made for it.

Better take my walk to the river, have a loaf of bread for the fish & I need the walk. If I sit her another minute I'll fall asleep.

First thing I did when we bought this house was contact the biggest company that could do the work of filling in a pool BUT they knew this house & the original owner & knew none of their big equipment could get up the hill from the river & would have had to remove 2 layers of fences to get to it from the front. Concrete has to be broken & removed to keep from mildewing during rain & all the concrete surrounding the whole back of the house & around the pool would have been like those big pizza ovens, hold the heat during the summer because it is the entire back (south) of the house with very little grass to our boundry. One of those things that "I knew better" BUT... I could move & have the cats put to sleep BUT..... and so it goes. The cats are also a big problem but as long as they aren't in pain I will keep taking care of them as long as I can. I kind of feel like this is the price I pay for all the extras I'm given, and need to quit griping. This year has been over the top and WE ALL know a lot has to do with the attitude of the times as well as COVID. So I thank you all for the suggestions, trust me, I've pondered every angle & this life wins out. It does help to share my frustration, thanks for letting me whine. Cooler weather will help the attitude, too, & then the months of having it covered & don't have to think about it until spring/summer will make me forget how bad this summer has been.

Rick, I actually "pictured" turning it into a sunken tea garden with wooden (level) floor & a covered/screened surrounding. But I never sit out in the summer when the house has AC!!! Maybe the next owners will enjoy as much as the original.

Off to bed a little early, can't believe it is another week end.

Good morning everyone, 63 and hazy, can see the haze around the lights on the lamp posts. Had no CNA yesterday and I was in bed last night  about 8, really worn out. Made my spaghetti sauce and had to get it out of the pan and into bowls for the fridge. Today will get it into containers and into the freezer. My son will be here about 10:30 and will help me.
My Arizona family is happy. They ordered batteries for the solar panels 11 months ago and they finally got them Thursday. Everything is set up and running and the first thing she did was get her crock pot out to make her dinner. One of the men living at the ranch used to work installing those panels and he helped Gary get every thing ready.

AMY  I tell Regina she drinks colored water. Teabag isn't in the cup of hot wa ter hardly longer that it  takes to dunk i t in and out. Hmmm maybe I should borrow Kyle's crutches and ask Regina that question.

PATRICIA  I thought 10 was supposed to be the end of new programs, just keep having updates. Maybe i t will be time for a new computer, have had problems wi th this lemon HP since day 1. Must have beem made/built on a Monday.

JANE  I have seen a computer made for Seniors tha t is supposed to be easy and simple  to use. Since YAHOO got rid of all the PSP groups there are none left  and if there are some groups I don' t know where t o find them. OK now I lost something here, know you had surgery, was it for teeth extractions of tonsils? I never did have tonsils out. Sauce smells wonderful but  was  too tired to even get a spoonfull for a  taste. I missed Yvet te big time the 3 weeks she was on vacation I dread what will happen here with her out even longer with her knee. There are 2 pretty good CNAs that I have had and I told the "boss"  tha t I like both of them. Do no t have to tell then every lit tle thing to do. One I had even before Yve tte started coming here and she lives here in  town. Will add Bridget to my prayers.

SHIRLEY  I just might say bye bye to computers if I have to try and learn a new system. Mike might  have been smart when he bought a Mac instead of a new PC. If ir wasn't for our group and Skype I don't  think there is much I would miss not having a PC anymore.

AMY  every time there is an update I have a problem of some kind with t hey PC. One time it messed up so bad I had  to send an SOS to my grandson asking him if he could come a work his magic on  the lemon again.

RAMMEL  when someone as savvy as you about computers dislikes this upcoming 11 is not loo‌g forward  to it  just  imagin how someone whot never  touched a computer till she was 70 feels about this mess? Heck I was very happy with XP.

SHIRLEY  no iPad here and new to  an iPhone.  That to me is some thing I do not understand at all. I cannot text and I have tried.

JACKIE  Roley-Peter lives across the pond in England and Lloyd lives here in the USA.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper is probably on his way here right now so when he arrives, I might have to stop and see to his needs and then come back.

GLORIA, my surgery had nothing to do with teeth or tonsils.  I had a growth in the left side of my mouth and it was pretty big.  The Otolarangologist tested it 3 times and it was not malignant but it's size made things get stuck and irritate.  She gave me 3 choices and I chose to have it removed.  She approved of that choice as did my dentist, his assistant and my General Doctor.  So I decided I'd made the right choice.  It's still a bit sore and a bit swollen and my throat is a bit sore but it's healing and for that I'm grateful.

I haven't heard anything about Bridget today but I'm going call her grandmother (my sister) later on.  I thought I'd give them time to bring her up to day.  Bridget has had an internal problem since her early teens and has learned to live with it but she has very little control over what happens inside.  She NEVER complains...just goes to her room and sleeps when she doesn't feel well.  She's really special!

I'm thinking I might scramble an egg this morning and see if I can eat it.  It sounds pretty good!  And I'm hungry!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Lovely day again here, they say we are go go into cooler weather next week.

Cooked a turkey and will cut it up and can it for the dogs along with laundry  and that is enough me thinks.

Jane, hope you get good news about Bridget. Have a great day with Cooper.

Gloria, that is how the neighbour is with his tea. scare the water with the tea bag! Tis 58° here now and I am finding it a bit warm...like the  one in the 40's.

Better get going ...slept in and now behind!

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning from an Interior in the midst of autumn colors, morning frost, and cloudy at 30 degrees.

I spent some time with the Pocket app this morning. I read about how creative people actually see the world differently, not just in perception. How the English word lox hasn't changed in meaning or sound in 8,000 years and why that's important.

And finally that animals understand and wrestle with the concept of death and mortality. Our world around us that we accept as fairly common actually isn't.

Gloria, I too was thinking about Microsoft's earlier big reveal and how they promised only updates from then on. Actually, none of their purported new ideas sound all that new or fascinating to me.

I've been saving for a new desktop as this laptop makes odd noises during runtime and takes forever to start in the mornings. Unfortunately, I'll need to purchase a new laptop in October instead of waiting for a new desktop. This entire year can be described as unfortunate for me.

Jane, that is a serious surgery and you're doing so well. Have another good day with Cooper.

Amy, I used to drink colored water for coffee as one employer named it. Since he came in early and made the coffee all the employees learned to drink it strong. I rarely drink tea, but prefer it unsweetened and strong, the same as I now drink my coffee.

I had a text from my niece Suzi, Bridget's mother.  She said that Bridget is far better than she was when they entered her in the hospital on Monday but her intestines are still dilated.  She added that surgery was still in the picture and before she got my answer she added, "GI Dr just in and pretty positive surgery will happen."  We need continuous prayers.

Jane, constant prayers for Bridget. She sounds like a strong girl to handle what she has in the past and will no doubt handle this too.

I am done for the day...just have the dogs bedding to bring in off the line and that is it!! Stopped at my neighbours and she gave us what was left of the zucchini plus a carrot cake! I grated the zucchini up and canned it into pineapple! Next was pick that darn turkey and vacuumed sealed that for the freezer.

Time to get the laundry in and feet up!!.

I also was happy with XP, in fact I still have a computer downstairs running XP.  My Blood Sugar program is on the XP computer and they did not update it to Win-10 so I keep my Doc happy using the old workhoarse.
I generally use a Win-10 desktop. I got this when the last one died in it's tracks - taking lots of good and/or important stuff with it. --- FWIW this is a HP Desktop which has a Solid State Hard Drive for the Windows Software and a big regular drive for Programs and Data.  With the Solid State Hard Drive it boots up real fast - something I like.  The only catch is that you must remember to put your saved data and programs on the right Drive (A slowly learned procedure - for me ).

I went to laptops because I'm not competent to fix anything on a computer & easier if one of my sons doesn't have time to come by, I can deliver & leave. I'm not competent to do a lot of things anymore~~~  By the way, only time I have to "boot up" is when "they" do an update & it has a new face waiting for me. My sons say their house computers never get turned off unless needed. So I just let them go to sleep, even the old ones downstairs & in the bedroom tied to the printer. Right or wrong, if Microsoft would quit playing with our computers I'd never have trouble. But I know they have to keep updating because the hackers are smarter than the people making the computers, isn't that right?

I just came from Arby's, paid for 2 Classic Roast beef sandwiches. Got a long bun filled with something, not sure what, tried to identify online but no clue. Not a bad sandwich but sure not what I ordered. They can't keep help at any of the "fast food" places, somebody different/new every place I go. I feel sorry for the franchise owners since they are hardly keeping ahead of the tax game & Covid restrictions. I do my part to support them.  ;)  ;D

Good morning..

Clear skies here and a temp of 38° at the moment.

A day of welcomed rest here. Will go early to get groceries this morning then coast for the rest of the day.
Noticed the robins in the Mountain Ash tree yesterday, branched that were  once  heavy  with bright orange berries are now just about striped of their fruit.

Jane, have fun with Cooper!

Shirley, it could have been a trainee that mixed up your order. Help is also hard to get here. One Timmies has had to close the restaurant part, just have drive through because of lack of help.

Patricia, I didn't put sugar in my coffee when I drank it nor do I like it in my hot tea but do in my iced tea. Snowing there?

Gloria, our apples are just starting to come in here. My friends son is heading into apple country and is going to get us a bushel on Mac to share.

Better get my duds on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're having a sunshiny but a bit chilly day so far today.  It's 54º right now and heading for a high of only 75.  I think my chore for the day is to harvest all the green tomatoes and pull up the vines and clean up the area....or maybe not!  We'll see!

All this tending to ailments is taking too much time.  I detest medications but I have to do what I have to do.  I managed to eat half a toasted bagel with butter and jam this morning.  Boy did that ever taste good.  I guess we have to accept the good things when we can.

AMY, good luck with the apples. MacIntosh have always been my favorites and I suppose that's because we had a tree in our back yard and my grandparents had lots of trees in their farm orchard.  We could go whenever it struck our fancy and have an apply!  I also lean towards Granny Smiths.  I guess I like the tart ones.  Are you going to make apple sauce?

Well, Cooper is here!  I'm sure he'll start looking for Franking at her usual time to come home from work.  But she's all packed up and is leaving straight from work to go to her mother's in Maryland for tonight and then leaving form Memphis early Monday morning!  He'll adapt!  He always does!  Maybe he'll even sleep with me this time since there are no other dogs around!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, hope you are all awake and chipper this Sunday. I'm awake and tha tmeans I am still alive so mus t be chipper, right? 63 now and only to go to mid 70's with sun all day.

JACKIE  I am sure Lloyd would love to meet  Peter but they don't  have a bridge to drive over the Atlantic yet. Thought you might have forgotten that. ;)

JANE  thanks for explaining the surgery. I am glad you are healing well and pray your mouth and throat feel better eacy day so you can enjoy eating what foods you like again. Thoughts and prayers continue for Bridget.

AMY  I put my son to work when he got here yesterday. Got the sauce into the freezer and he put the heave pans away for me. I just was so tired that I had all I could do the wash them Friday night.

LLOYD  I would be lost without  my camera and Skype to talk with my daughter every day.

PATRICIA  all I know about  Microsoft is that every time they do an update it messes us my computer. I also know tha t one of my nieces me t a Russian on line and  they "fell in love" He came here and they go t married. He also knew a lo t about  computers and he ia now working for/with Microsoft and they live in Washinton now. Every time I have  these updates I wonder if he is  responsible for it. I did meet him once and  thought  he was really unpleasant. That niece is nothing like her older sister either so she is a good mate for the jerk she married.

JANE  Bridget is so young  to have to have all  those internal  problems. Pray surgery will make her life much better.

RAMMEL  glad someone is happy with theis HP desk top. I sure am not. I have an external drive tha t I keep important  things. When an update is co‌g I always unplug the external, don't want anything to happen to it.

I have never even looked at a laptop but  don' t think I would like it.

SHIRLEY  like you I will not look in to  trying to fix anything on this lemon so keep getting my grandson guru  to come and get me straightened out. He works on his computer all hours of day and night-that's what happens being a boss and working on salary. I know to have patience till he gets here might be 1 day or 1 week.

AMY  enyoy those Macs, too bad they get soft  so fast after picking.

JANE  like you I like  tar t apples and Regina's favorite is Granny Smith. she also likes lemons. I used to call her a sour kid. Enjoy your week wirh Cooper.

Have a good day and keep safe.

In my "computer lifetime" I have owned three (3) HP desktops. All have given great service, never a complaint, never a breakdown, only reason I quit using, Microsofts "new and improved" Windows versions.  I loved XP, can't remember what the other ones were.  Still love this Win7. Don't really wish to go to Win 10, but don't seem to have a choice. From all the comments I've seen, I won't ever go to Windows 11. I did buy a laptop, Toshiba I think, that had Windows 8.1, and it tanked within a year. I left it unused for about 6 or so months, and when I brought it out and charged it up, it had about a million "updates", which I could not remove and was told it would need a Microsoft Licensed person to clean them out, and bring me up to date.  I didn't much like all the stuff on the 8.1; was very confusing to me.  Maybe someday I can find a MS Tech to clean it and put in all my Win7 stuff. (any suggestions Rammel?)

I love apples. Like most if not everything with apples in it - applesauce, apple cake, baked apples. dried apples, apple & cheese, apple juice, apple cider, and on and on.
Where I grew up (as a teenager) we had something of an apple orchard. When we (other kids & I ) would come home from a night out we would often cut through the orchard and grab an apple off the tree  - buff it up on our shirt and eat it. It was usually late and dark and we often wondered how many apples had half worms in them. Now as I look back I wonder how many of those half worms and how much poison spray we got from those apples.  BUT - they were good.

Good morning from a rainy Interior at 33 degrees now with an expected high of 43 degrees. No snow yet, but it's expected tonight and through Monday.

I cut my hair as you can't get an appointment until they reopen. I got tired of going from the little Dutch boy to a scraggly mop. I received a package yesterday; previously ordered from Bas Bleu, a 2022 calendar, "Senior Moments." An example is "When asked to dinner by a friend, Richard Porson, the brilliant 18th century Cambridge University scholar, replied absentmindedly, "Thank you, no. I dined yesterday."

Or Mark Twain's quote, "When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it happened or not."

Jane, I'll be thinking of both you and Bridget this week and sending healing thoughts.

Gloria, you should only leave your external plugged in when you are actively using it. You don't want your info gone via a virus. If your computer gets a virus and you don't keep the external plugged in, you can restore it through the external drive. I hate the monopoly that Apple and Microsoft have with computers!

Gloria, they turned our heat on yesterday and when they are finished with the new windows and doors, I'll have weatherstripping. I'm looking forward to that.

Amy, I drink my iced tea straight too. I only use sugar in baked goods so it's rare to use it. I use local honey on hot cereals but that's about it. I'm more of carb than a sweet person.

Rammel, a piece of apple with a good cheese is always good! When we traveled to Colorado to see my mother's parents, their farmhouse gate had a cherry tree on one side and peach on the other. You swung to the right for cherries and to the left for a peach.

Rammel ( Rick ) worms or no worms, poison spray or not, you are still here to tell the story, although those inside apple maggots got everywhere, as soon as we took a large bite, always one there waiting for us.....Us children would climb an elderly neighbours brick wall ( which backed onto our school playground ) and scrump her apples from her tree...

Neighbour just dropped in with a bag of four potatoes bigger than my hand!! I teased him and asked which backhoe did he hire to get them out. One will do us 2-3 meals.

Met up with friends this morning and exchanged items we had for each other. Back home we put away the groceries etc for the time being.

Patricia, glad to hear you have your heat on. Are the workmen anywhere near done?

Oh my gosh!! They are making this a long drawn out deal.

If I get another phone call asking me how I am going to vote ,they are not going to like my response! :tickedoff:  Bunch of chickens do robo calls and ask for punch this if and punch that ....well punch is something I would love to do....

Amy, I also won't "punch anything" but given a chance during election season, I announce first off (if a human) who I vote for & quickly hang up. I don't even bother lying! Usually must be the wrong party since they don't call back. I've been having to answer all phone calls because some of the "reminder for Dr appointments" don't come from the hospital or clinic phones. Obviously they are out-sourcing those calls these days. Robo calls that I answer usually get "these calls are being transferred to the District Attorney's Office". I've had fewer robos the last few days so maybe the phone companies are working on how to stop? I can't imagine anyone doing business with a company that stoops to using robo calls!

Waiting on Tiger to come for her last meal, Tom & Callie both ate & went out. Tiger likes to see if I'm going to let her sleep with me before deciding. If she sees me close the folding door to the bedroom end of the house, she chooses to go outside or to the basement. I am the restless sleeper but will catch up on zzzzzzzzs when cool enough to open the door for fresh air.

Amy, I bought a bag of the extra large potatoes for baking & will bake one to tender in the microwave & enough for a meal with meat & gravy over half & another meal diced & browned in butter to have with my breakfast eggs. Best hash browns EVER!

Eyes feel like sand in them, pollen is awful right now. First year I haven't cleaned off the ragweek & brush along my section of river bank & everyone says "this is the worst year" for allergies, so super bad.

Back in the day, when I was in elementary school, Mom would give me a nickel to ride the bus or walk home & buy an apple from Safeway (size of my head...almost). The apple always won out, had to be the red delicious, I was a good judge of the ones with most flavor.

Dad lived 5 years after Mother died so many times when I'd drive to their house for a visit I'd find him baking a whole cookie sheet full of apples that he would core & pack back with brown sugar & little cinnamon. They were like candy!  All my life we had baked apples, fried apples or apple sauce on the table year around. If I have an apple or two not crisp enough to eat, I slice it & fry in butter until clear & toss in enough brown sugar to make like apple pie without the crust.

Dad could make a meal on fried potatoes & fried apples & when Mom pulled a baked chicken out of the oven that was the best meal ever. I have her cast iron Dutch oven with the rack on bottom to drain off any fat, but have never gotten the flavor of hers. Of course, the chickens I've baked were not fresh killed, either! And I'm not about to do that. I had a hard time thinking about eating chicken just like most people would think about eating a dog or cat!!!

Off to bed.... off, anyway!  :D   Sweet dreams & prayers for all.

I'm ready for the haystack!  I think Cooper is already IN the haystack.  He seems to know when it's time to go to bed!  My eyes have already entered Slamshut mode and I'm tired.  I picked the last of the tomatoes today (2 nice red ones and about 5 lbs. or green oned)  And then I pulled up and bagged all the stalks and all the weeds that had collected around them.

I ate the other half of the bagel for lunch with melted cheese on it...pretty good!  Soup for supper and more of my rhubarb juice for a snack.  My jaw is feeling better but it's still hard to open my mouth.  I'm working on that.  I think it just needs exercise.  Well, I know how to exercise my mouth!

No news of Bridget today.  I think the hospital takes breaks on the weekend and patients are on support only.  I'm expecting news tomorrow.  Please continue to pray.  GLORIA, we are praying the surgery is NOT necessary because if it is, it might mean more surgeries to come and in Bridget's case, that's not good!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Not sure if we had frost during the night or not 36° at the moment.

We are off to pick up tomatoes at a near by farm for chili sauce then  to get some paint stain for Kyles buildings.

Jane and Cooper.. good morning..maybe you can handle mashed potatoes and carrots today..ham is soft so that may be an idea for a  meal.

Shirley, years ago my neighbour would fill her oven (cookstove) with potatoes and bake them Then she would also take them and fry them up another day. She used her cookstove all year round, she did have an electric stove but preferred the taste from the cookstove.

Gloria, nice that your son helped you and you had a good visit with him. How is Yvette doing?

Better get a move on..farm market will be busy .

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

We're up, I had my coffee and cooper had his breakfast.  We're about to take our first walk of the day.  The temp is at 52º right now but it was down in the mid 40s overnight.  We're still due for some low 70s in the coming week but I think Fall has arrived.  When we take our walk, a jacket is in order.  It's foggy out there right now and it's supposed to be a cloudy day.

My plan for today is to get the green tomatoes cleaned and chopped up and whether they get made into soup or just frozen is still open.  We shall see.

AMY, when I was in bed last night, I thought about potatoes.  I could toss one in the microwave and then mash and butter it and right now, that sounds pretty good.  Thanks for reminding me!

I usually try not to turn on the heat in the house until the end of September.  Is it the end of September yet?  It's pretty cool in here.

AMY, you said you are going for tomatoes.  I thought you were going to have apples to deal with today?

I'm off to let Cooper take me for a walk.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone a nice 53 now just after 7 am, I could take that every night, good sleeping and boy I did sleep great. No AC of fan going so nice an quiet.

JACKIE my first chuckle for today, just picturing a bridge over the Atlantic. Would haver to be wide enough for gas stations along the way to fill up those gas tanks on cars. Then very strong to survive hurricanes. I still would stay on this side though, don't really like high bridges.

TOMEREADER  this is the second HP I have owned and never had a problem with the other one but it was old and the hard drive was not big and could not clean anything else out of it. I had this one 3 weeks and i t went back t o the factory, came back in 2 weeks and was better but in 2 weeks it was back to the fac tory a second time. Had problems again and they sent a tech here. I knew more about  it than he did. He had been working with computers for 7 years and said he knew all abou t them. I almost laughed at him. My grandson majored in computers in college and was hired as an intern by the company he still works for and is now in his mid 30's. I had to ask hin after the HP tech was here if he knew all about the workings and programs for them now. He told me no one ever knows everything because they are always changing.

RAMMEL  before nature and the gypsy moth caterpillas killed mos t of his  trees he had a nice orchard with several varieties. My favorite first one is the Mac, then I like  the Empire-a cross of the Mac and red delicious and I do not care for those red delicious. Nothing beats picking an apple from the t ree, wiping it on your shirt and biting into it. Yummy. I used to go help my son with selling from the stand and would bag apples. He showed me what to look for to tell if there was a worm inside, it is like beads at the blossom end.

PATRICIA  our apartment doors are ill fitting, there is almost an inch at the bottoms of them where they do not meet the floor and wide cracks all around them. No outside doors except on the main floor front and back. We are all getting tired of having to go downstairs to let visitors in because the wi tch waited  too long to get the button panel fixed. Since I moved here mos t times when someone buzzed out phones it was all staticy. She told me I needed a new phone. No other calls are like that , only from that panel. I am not the only one she told that to.

AMY  We used  to stop at a farm stand years ago and the farmer used to go to Maine for their potatoes. He knew my skinny daughter loved baked potatoes  and he found one in a bag he put aside for her. I weigh over 2 pounds and he bet her she could not eat the whole thing at one  time. Took almost 2 hours to bake all the way through and by golly she sat there and ate the  whole thing. Even I didn't  think she could do it . She always had a big appetite and was skinny, like I was a t her age, too.

PATRICIA  here even if we were having a blizzard before 10-1 the witch would not let the heat get turned on. We no longer have Paul-maintenance man-here to fight for us and the new man does not live here so he will not fight for us. We are alreday wondering who will clear the front entry of show in the night this coming winter. The new man lives in Mass. and is married with 4 kids. He will have his place  to clean before he comes here to so this area.  I asked my grandson it he heard about that Windows 11 and he told me not to get  it till it has been out awhile to make sure all the bugs awe worked out of it. He also said to never belive all they tell us either. All the updates la tely are getting thing in before 11 somes out.

AMY  I am with you on those robo calls and the ones behind them. I now le t my answering machine t ake t he calls.

SHIRLEY  I  tried frying apples like you say bu t ei ther I did some tning wrong or just did not like them.

JANE  prayers for Bridget and hope surgery is not needed.

AMY  WAS HOPING TO HAVE yVETTE BACK TODAY  but the boos called me and t old me someone was coming today la te afternoon bu t only for 11/2 hours. I have been get ting short changed on the  times I have been getting. If this keeps up I will call my insurance and let them fight for me. I am supposed to have 13 hours a weekand been getting less  than 9.

LLOYD  i t is a nice clear day here and  the sun is shining from a mos tly blue sky wi th a few white clouds.

Have a good day and keep safe.

For those of you who seem worried about Windows 11....

My husband worked for IBM for 35 years in both the hardware and software divisions.  Even after he retired from IBM computers were his hobby and he kept up with the latest information because it interested him.  He trusted and subscribed to Computer World Magazine and this article appeared recently in their publication.  If you want to read it here is a link....

   https://www.computerworld.com/article/3633630/windows-11-just-say-no.html

Personally, I have no intention of downloading Windows 11.  I don't need it and I doubt if my 9 year old Toshiba desktop has the capability to handle it.  I am quite happy with version 8.1 that I am using now.  I never bothered with v.10 because I don't need it for the things I do on the computer.  If this Toshiba should crash and can't be fixed I'll buy a new computer with Win 11 already installed.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a chill, rainy, dreary Interior. We've yet to see snow but people say it's coming. Yesterday started out like today but in the afternoon, it was sunny.

I can hear the sounds and feel the building jolts from construction so I will need to go out later and visibly check on the construction crew and how the new doors and windows look. In my own opinion, the outside of the balconies looks like a prison so I'm not optimistic.

I don't particularly want  W11 but since my laptop is slow, ancient, and makes a clackity sound when in use, I'll have to buy a new one soon out of my savings for a new desktop.

Otherwise it's only 35 degrees and I'm waiting on my coffee to perk.

Jane, apples will be done when my friends goes into apple country and brings them back. Not sure when that will happen though. Right now there is a double batch of chili sauce on cooking. The worst part of that is chopping up the peppers and onions.

Phyliss, thank you for the article..will read it in a bit. Hope you are also feeling better.

Patricia, there were a couple on mornings here that frost was evident. Nothing here ws killed so it must have been a light one. I still have beans in the garden they are a tender plant..which reminds me I have to pick beans.....sheesh never ends .

AMY, after your reminder this morning, I baked a BIG red potato in the microwave and had the first half for breakfast all mashed up with butter and salt and pepper on it.  It tasted wonderful going down but as soon as I finished, I decided that the salt and/or pepper was a mistake.  It got to the sore spot.  So when I ate the other half for lunch it was just buttered.  It tasted great both times but my mouth felt better the second time.

Now, I'm cooking green tomato soup over a new recipe and it should be ready for supper.  I'll let you all know how it tastes after I eat some.  The rest of the green tomatoes are going to be chopped up and canned for later use.  I should get at least 10 pints out of it.  And they don't have to be pressure canned!

The soup is almost cooked and ready to be put through the blender.  Continue your good day!  It's beautiful here.  The sun came out and the temp is in the low 70s...a perfect Autumn day!  I'll take more of the same!

I'm about to hit the hay, too.  I'm ready to check out the zzzs and use up as many of them as I can.  My eyes are already in slam shut mode and I'm ready to give in to them.

I have all the tomatoes cleaned up and in a big jar in the fridge to can tomorrow.  I had the dishes all cleaned up and was taking the trash out and I found 7 summer squash on the porch railing.  So tomorrow, before I start canning the tomatoes, I'll have to clean and freeze the squash.  I hope my neighbor soon runs out of squash or it quits producing.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Today was a beautiful day and tomorrow is supposed to be a mirror of today.  Then rain Wed. and Thursday.  There were som leaves down in the yard this morning and a few more this evening.

GOOD NIGHT, EVERYFRIEND!

Good morning...

Starting out warmer this morning at 62° so far. We are going to take off for part of the day,Kyle's supply of chocolate is dwindling and we can't have that! the town that  he gets his chocolate also has a quilt store and I hope they have a panel that I would like to bring home with me!

Patricia, I am not sure I would like to live in Whitter with only one way in or out.

Jane, how was the tomato soup? Hope you hear more information on Bridgett today.

Gloria, I love baked potatoes. I do peel them and put them in the oven till done.....may give them a time in the micro so cooking doesn't take too long. They come out with a crispy shell and I dig the potato part out...put butter and lots of garlic in the shell and enjoy!

Lloyd, I also get my oil changed earlier than needed...cheaper to do oil change that an engine repair!

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My last text last night was from my niece, (Bridget's Mom).  She is undergoing surgery this morning at 10.  Not what they were hoping for but they got the Dr. that they wanted and trust so we're praying hard!  Please join us!

AMY, that quilt panel is adorable!  I hope we get a picture of the finished product!  It will bring smiles daily!

My plan for today is 1) Take Cooper for a walk while the dishwasher is running.  2) Clean and freeze the squash that appeared on my railing yesterday. 3). Can the green tomatoes.  4) Think of something to use up any leftover energy!

I also have a couple of phone calls to make and some bills to pay!  I detest paying bills!  I'd be happy if they would all just disappear!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  We're supposed to have another one today like yesterday...cool and sunny!  Then tomorrow and Wed. rain most of the day!

It was in the low 50s overnight and only reaching a high of 73 around 5 and not lasting long.  This is my favorite time of the year!

Good morning everyone, a nice cool 51 with the sun shining and the sky a  bright blue. Just the kind of morning a few short years ago I would have been out for a nice walk and enjoying it. These days a short walk is all I can handle and then need to sit and rest before heading back in here. Ahh  these "golden years" are such fun  aren' t they? NOT. On  the good news front  Yvette will be back tomorrow.

PHYLLIS  my PC guru grandson told me not to get that Win. 11 till it has been out for some time to get all t he bugs out of it. I was happy with XP then got used to 7 then 10 I still do not  care for but I really do not want anymore new versions of Windows.

JACKIE  imagine if the old seies of Star Treck were possible we could all say -Beam me up, Scotty- and we could all get  together for a gab fest.

PATRICIA  like you I don't think those balconies are very attractive but you do have one. Some senior buildings here have none,  the high rise ones in the cities do but this one is only 3 stories.

AMY  I scrub potatoes and bake in he skins. If feeling fancy I will scoop all the potato out of the skin and mash it up with cheese and put it back into  the skin  to bake again for a short time. Have not done that in a long time.

JANE  about now Bridget is undergoing surgery. Praying for her and her family.  do pray her insides will be much better after this. Hugs.

Amy, that's going to be a darling quilt! I'd love some chocolate too, except it doesn't look appealing or on my diet when I'm at the store.

Alaska doesn't have a road system like other states. Our capital, Juneau, is only reachable by boat or air. There are several places like Whittier in the state. Fairbanks has only two roads leading out of the valley, and you go over ridges and foothills in both directions. Each time a road system comes on the ballot, it's voted down, mainly by the Alaskan Native voting bloc.

My baked potatoes are best with sour cream, bacon bits, and freshly ground black pepper!

I don't think I've had green tomato soup, Jane, how was it? I hope Bridget is doing well post-op? I know she has many prayer warriors on her case.

We stayed in the twenties overnight and the thirties or forties during the day. We didn't get the snow expected, altho some folks said we had some early Monday morning sleet. Today is cold at 9:20 and thirty-two degrees. The cold spell is supposed to lift by the weekend.

Gloria, with the old balconies, you could lay on the couch and watch the weather rise over the foothills. Now, besides looking starkly industrial, you have to go over to the window and press your nose against the glass to see more than the sky. They raised the balcony rails by more than a foot.

Bridget should be in recovery right now and they told my niece that would be at least 2 hours so depending how long the surgery took, I'm thinking she is in recovery.  Still need the prayers and still thank all of you for praying on Bridget's behalf.  She's a special girl and I know you would all like her!

My green tomatoes are in the canner and they're almost finished.  I have one small bag left and 8 pints canned.  I'm thinking I might fry the leftovers and try to eat them for supper.

The green tomato soup was pretty good.  I didn't add the bacon and I think I'll do that the next time I eat some.  It'll be a bit different!

Gotta go empty the canner.  Continue your day however you like it!

I nipped into the fabric store and the panels were not in yet. When I first saw the panels I said I wanted all the puppies!! Must admit it was nice to have a day off........tomorrow is a different story :(

Jane, prayers continued ...for all.as I know you are all worried.

Bridget came through the surgery well and also the recovery period.  She is resting in her room and now we wait and see.  Thank you all for the prayers.  I know they helped!  They said total recovery time will be 4 to 6 weeks.

I had more of the Green Tomato Soup for supper and this time I heated it and then sprinkled in about 3 tablespoons of grated cheese and some crunched up pieces of bacon.  Um Ummmm goood!  It tasted "more-ish"!

Cooper and I are hitting the hay early tonight so we can make it an early day tomorrow.  I want to try a quick trip to Davy's and a stop at the Farmers' Market for more red potatoes to can.  I only have one pint of last year's left and a pint is just right for Frankie and me for a quick supper.  I hope the same farmer is there and has more of the same.  They were the nicest taters I've had in a long time.

AMY, I'm sorry the quilt panels weren't ready to go but maybe you can console yourself with a couple bits of chocolate or some good cheese....or both!

PATRICIA, I hope that cold weather bearing snow, sleet and thoughts of winter don't manage to stray South for a while yet.  I'm thoroughly enjoying the Fall weather we're having here right now!  Although we're supposed to have rain for the next two days.  I hope it's gentle rain and not thunder storms.

Just now, when Cooper and I were out for our last foray, I noticed the moon has a healthy ring around it!  From my camping days I remember the saying....
          "A ring around the moon,
           Means a summer shower soon!"
And it was usually right!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good rainy morning.

Rain started in the night and has continued on. Pick up meds and can turnip and butternut squash and that is it today.

Jane, that is good news to hear. She is a fighter and will prove to them she can! Ring around the moon predicted  a lot, I would check the mood and if there was a ring around it ,count the stars within the ring and that was in how many days it would rain. Knew then to either knock a field or hay down or not.

Patricia, looked at your before and after and would say your building is now up to code. In the past people put up blasters not realizing that a child's head could and did go through them. Now they are set to 4" if my memory serves me.

Gloria, we call that loaded potato, I also like that. Load it with bacon. cheese , onions mash all together , put back in shell and bake it some more. May have to do that for supper tonight, made myself hungry for one now.

Better get ready for the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone HAPPY BEGINNING OF THE AUTUMN SEASON. 69 now and the guesser said will feel like summer today. No color in the leaves yet and usually the leaves are starting to show by now. We have not had a hint of frost yet either. No sun showing this morning, just a gray sky. Sun is still sleeping wrapped in her cloud blanket.
Son brought me more tomatoes yesterday (some big enough that one slice will make a sandwich) and today will have Yvette fry us some bacon and each have a BLT.  Will be great having her back.

LLOYD  I feel like I want to sleep more every morning when I wake.

RAMMEL  Baked stuffed potato sound so good to me today but the potatoes I have are  too small. Should send my CNA to the market to get me a few big ones and have one soon.

PATRICIA  I know the high rise senior buildings in the cities have balconies but I never paid much attention to them. All I know is I would not want to live in one of those buildings. No trees around them and nothing but rooftops and the smell of the traffic. I grew up in a city and moved to the country when I got married and now I do not even like to go into the cities for anything.

JANE  I hope by now you have some good news about Bridget and the outcome of her surgery. Prayers for the best kind of result and a fast recovery for her.

AMY  you can keep your garlic cheese but will Kyle share some of that chocolate? I would love to get into a store that sold nothing but chocolate, boy would I have a shopping spree in there.

JANE  now you have me wondering more about the green tomato soup with the addition of cheese and bacon.

AMY  keep the onions out of my potato please. They do not agree with me at all.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Bridget had an uncomfortable night with lots of soft moaning and talking through the sleep and anesthetic.  But Suzi says they expected that.  They're expecting at least a week in the hospital and then some weeks of recovery at home.  But that's better than what they were expecting last week!  The prayers are working.

That baked stuffed potato sounds pretty good to me too.  I might have to have one of those today!

Cooper and I just had our walk and the puddle in the street had drops falling in it when we went out the door but it stopped before we got out from under the roof.  There were puddles all along the way some a couple of our showers predicted for today must have come very early!  It's still cloudy out there and more is predicted.  It says "Light rain beginning in the next hour" then it shows it for the rest of the day.  I guess we got our walk in just in time.

I better get this day started!  I need some breakfast first.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Lloyd, good for you to get a good nights sleep. Seems anymore it is a blessing to enjoy a good nights rest. Raining here, hard at times and will be an all day rain I think.
Just finished cutting up 10 lbs of turnip and 2 butternut squash..all the turnip was a lot easier that the two squash!!

Back to work..

Good morning, 9:32, from a cloudy and cold Interior at 26°. Jane, we haven't seen the sleet since very early Monday morn, and hopefully, it stays that way until Halloween! Our Arctic fall is incredibly shorter than the East coast. Even though I know better, I'm surprised to see eastern places snow-free in November and December!

I'm glad Bridget's news is good post-op. And I hope she has the best recovery!

Amy that is the first I've heard about rings around the moon or the stars between. We have continuous daylight in the summer and pray for cloudy skies in the winter. Clear skies in the winter signal frigid temperatures without a blanket of cloud cover to keep any cold out and warmth in.

We may be up to code with the new railings at five feet rather than the older four feet. However, it looks industrial, not welcoming, and you can't see past them from inside.

Good morning, Gloria. Our trees are in full color, and the morning lows range in the twenties and the highs in the forties. We have mid-October temperatures early, but while cold, the sun is out, and clouds are fleeting.

A friend sent me, via her husband, nine large tomatoes, fresh green beans, some green peppers from her garden, and some more dried cranberries. I now have seven and a half pounds of cranberries. I appreciated them and sent him home with 2 sacks of oranges and one of apples. However, what do I do with 7.5 pounds of dried cranberries?!

We had paper birch below us until they said they were diseased and pulled them all down. I noticed they left the trees in the front. This building takes up an entire block and is in three sections connected by public spaces. It's in an older part of town and could do with some greenery.

Amy, I wonder how you and Kyle feel about pepper jack cheese? That's one of my favorites. In chocolates, I always liked dark varieties.

Jane, I'm sorry Bridget's night was uncomfortable, even if expected. Anesthesia often makes for an uncomfortable time.

Lloyd, good for you, seven hours! Sleep is hard to find for me. I tend to sleep in two to three-hour periods with brief periods of waiting to go back to sleep.

Ran aground...loss of get up and go . Managed to get 17 jars of turnip and 10 jars of butternut squash canned but the remaining tomatoes are just going to have to wait till tomorrow.

Still raining here and some areas to the south are preparing for flooding.

Patricia, I don't think we have had pepper jack but will look into it. Sounds good.

It's  really good!

"Pepper Jack is a derivative of Monterey Jack, the original "American" cheese invented by Mexican Franciscan friars of Monterey, California. As the name suggests, the cheese is flavoured with sweet peppers, rosemary, habañero chillies and garlic and spicy jalapeños for an extra kick.

This semi-soft, open-textured cheese is spicy to taste yet leaves a delicate and buttery taste in the mouth. It is often eaten with quesadillas, crackers or hamburgers. Pepper jack can also go well with jalapeno peppers, melons, grapes, pickled vegetables, and olives."

Hello Everyfriend!  The rain is still raining out there.  Cooper and I went out before it got really dark and he opted to stay on the porch with me so he jumped up on my lap and we just sat and watched it rain for a while then I gave him the choice of going down the steps or in the house.  He chose IN!  He's really good at holding it!

PATRICIA, pepper jack cheese is one of my all time favorites and it's good in a sandwich with a couple slices of Pennsylvania Lebanon Bologna.  Funny thought just went through my mind.  When I was little, everyone called Lebanon Bologna "SUMMER" Bologna.  I guess because it had to be smoked and they usually only made it in the summer.  If I called it that now, I bet no one (except maybe Butch Fisher) would know what I meant.  Today I bought a couple slices of Havarti Dill cheese to try.  It's not bad but not something I'll crave.

Right after Cooper and I got back from our second walk, I took off for the Farmers Market and a quick stop at Davy's on the way back.  As I was stowing my purchases from the Farmers Market in the car the rain started.  And it came down straight and regular ever since.  It stopped around 4?30 just long enough for our walk and it's been raining ever since.  Supposed to keep up until tomorrow evening.

AMY, you put in a full day today and I know exactly what you mean about a couple squash being more work to deal with than all the turnips!

Bridget is still hanging in there!  Thanks again for the prayers.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow (in spite of the rain)

Another quick good night, daughter was here most of the day & we cleaned out about half the kitchen cabinets of all stuff I don't use anymore! Have a pile knee hi in 2 places so kids can go thru & keep what they want. So far 2 of the kids have taken quite a bit but plenty to donate. I'm even going thru all the kitchen towels & sorting what is okay to use, some to store until I think about if I really need to keep and a big rag bag full that I've already used one to spray on the pool handle that I couldn't get to extend. Had son pull it apart & sprayed with "Liquid Wrench" & then silicone spray & wiped it off & threw away that "rag". Busy day, Fitbit says I had 6 hours & 43 min sleep (that is a record for me). I need to trim my hair & shower & wash hair before I can go to bed so better move.

Jane, my daughter has had a couple Crohn's surgeries & other surgeries so understand the fear of unknown before & after. All 4 of her kids have issues with food allergies so are constantly watching ingredients in all foods. Soy is one big problem & "they" have managed to put it in nearly everything you buy... even Crisco, Miracle Whip & things we never thought about. Do hope Bridget is cured & not an on-going problem. Oops, you snuck in, Jane, wonder if Summer Sausage that my mother talked about making is same thing....

Sweet dreams & God Bless.... bring on fall, felt wonderful out while ago, 71° & going down to 51° for the low. My kind of weather!

Good morning..

Rain rain go away don't come back another day!! Another all day rain and it rained during the night.

Putting away the canned goods and cooking down the tomatoes and that should be it unless I find something else .I have been reading up on canned mushrooms and that may be one to try...need to do more research on it first.

Jane, I came across a Lebanon bologna recipe and it look interesting. Hope Bridgett has a good day today..

Patricia, will look for a small piece, I know you enjoy hot stuff so will at least try it.

Gloria, yes, he took a bag of cheese and chocolate to the neighbour  as they like both. I bet you both enjoyed your bacon ,tomato sandwich!

Shirley, my friend granddaughter also has Crohn's and doesn't let it stop her. When it acts up she eat plain rice. They now have her on a new med with hopes it keeps it under control.

Better get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We're up and rarin' to go!  Well, we're up and have everything set up.  As for "rarin" we'll see how that works out.  Today is "peeling potato day"  I might get one cannerful done but I'm sure I have at least 2 to go.  However, I've developed a system and it works.

Cooper is waiting for his walk and I'm waiting for some daylight to go.  Today is "wear a raincoat day"!  It's supposed to rain steadily all day until about 7 tonight.  Frankie is coming home from Maryland today and a good part of her driving will be in the rain.  If you think about it, ask God to watch over her and help her to avoid careless drivers.

SHIRLEY and AMY, I'm pretty sure the "Lebanon/Summer Bologna" in your area might be good but not the same as that begun by the PA Dutch communities many years ago in Lebanon, PA.  When I was traveling with my Girl Scouts, one of the things we packed from home was LB and our shopping group tried to get more along the way.  One group actually bought some and ended up looking for dogs to eat it for them.  They ended up eating so as not to waste but it sure wasn't the same!

As for fighting the Crohns, Bridget is 24 and was about 13 when they discovered it.  She's been fighting it on her own since them.  And she always did a good job.  I don't think Suzi ever had to remind her there were things she couldn't eat.  I know she told them and anyone else who needed to know that she couldn't eat something.  And if she was going somewhere that food would be offered, she ALWAYS took along something that she could eat.  She made it through 4 years of college on her own, got a special dispensation from the dining hall to bring in something she could eat if other food was on the menu.  She's smart, sweet, pretty and more than just careful.  Suzi said the Dr. said this was going to happen "no matter what" she did!  And Suzi said to thank all of you for the prayers!  Thank you from me and from Suzi!

Well, I finished my coffee and it's time to get out my raincoat and take the Cooper for a walk (if he'll go out in this).  I wish you all a good day... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, another dreary day wi th showers. Wen t ou tside for a walk yes terday and by  the time I go t t o the ebd of the building I fel t rain drops. I pulled t he shde in the bedrrom up and every  thing was dry, good I can get out  for a walk  later. Got a cup of coffee and came in here, pulled up the shade and it is all wet again. Did not take me more than a few minutes from one window to the other. Going to be like this all day again. 70 now and glad it is not 60 or I would be shivering. Great having Yvette back yesterday. Talked more than anything and I got a good back massage before she left.

JANE  I hope Bridget had a better night last night.

LLOYD  glad you had a good sleep.
Fas t wea ther change, now  the sun is shining, all this in about 10-15 minutes.

AMY  I love butternut but hate peeling it. We both enjoyed that BLT yesterday and she went home with a couple of the bigger tomatoes I gave her.

SHIRLEY  wish I could get my kids here to take what they want. I feel like I s till have too much "stuff" for this small apartment.

Better get a move on and get dressed. Maybe I can get outside before it starts raining again.

Have a good day and be safe.

My daughter's Crohn's wasn't diagnosed until she already had 2 kids, but she had an ongoing infection that was a different problem. Her oldest son was interning at NASA when his problem started big time, in the hospital with doctors suspecting appendicitis, after days they said they were going to do "exploritory surgery" & he insisted they call his mother first. His STATS were exactly same as hers before her first surgery (an engineer's mind & records). They released him from that hospital in Houston & sent him to one that specalized in Crohn's.

Right now SHE is going thru massive tests to find her exact stage, all doctors want her to try another new med but she is more than leary. One they put her on earlier brought on "Chemically induced Lupus" & that can be fatal, so she told her Dr she was going off it. Her Dr. said she'd have to find a new Dr & daughter said "fine". She went off the drug & Lupus was gone in next tests... Dr tried to say it NEVER was but daughter said "you want to see the screen shot of the tests?" She always kept track of all details. Dr backed off.

This new med is supposed to not be anything like the other but there is one side effect possibility that scares me... "it can cause a brain reaction that is irreversable". Only reason she is considering taking is "if it works it could help her sons & daughters". Because with the first surgery they removed a piece of the large and piece of the small intestine & the valve that connects them, she has one med she must take the rest of her life. One doctor explained she could just wait until the need to remove the next "hot spot" but will have the danger of how much can they remove in her life time & still be okay? Hard choice & I do not advise. She has been treated & examined at MAYO & other states where they lived, her insurance offers the best possible. Tell Bridget this never kept her from traveling the world for her job, she was just prepared to deal with hand she was dealt. She was born in Jan of '56 so has a lifetime of dealing already. 3 of her 4 kids are engineers & the 4th an "IT" person, she retired 2-3 years ago & keeps busy flying all over the US to visit her 5 grands (& kids).

Gloria, my daughter is in town for some activities of her grands so had daytime to spare & helped me go thru those kitchen cabinets. I eagerly pushed her to take anything that had a happy memory "except the 2 cast iron Dutch ovens" that I bake the eye of round roasts in to grind for meat spread. She gets those when I'm done cooking! This other pile is waiting for the last kid to have a look but all were told that "everything donates" that they don't take!  I decided they can do their deciding now easier than when planning a funeral.

Waiting for 3 phone calls to be returned from people supposed to do jobs for me. Now days it seems anyone hired to do a job acts like they are doing you a favor instead of getting paid for doing a job!

Amy, the one thing my daughter discovered over the years is that "if something doesn't sound good" in her head it won't set well with the tummy, so she doesn't eat. Times she can get away with food I would not dare touch & she'll have no reaction. I'm convinced each person's body has to deal with what it tolerates & no 2 people alike when dealing with Crohn's.

Got to get out & vac the pool before it gets too hot. Nice cool morning but kept waiting on those phone calls & now I've shot the cool part of the day!  :'(

Good morning everyone. Gloria I Hope i am reading you wrong sounds Like you are ready to give up. do not do that. I am sure we all love you and want to keep you as long as we can. I am ready to slow down and sell the RV. but I plan on being careful and doing work in the shop and make a bunch of bee hives. son in law has got bees and they are doing good I used to have bees and want to again. bob came in stole my last hive. they had swarmed away but it was full of honey. I was going to take most of the honey out but leave a few frames and get more bees I still plan on doing that. bees are very high now over $200. per swarm of them. But I am going to bite the bullet and get some anyway. I have the equipment and know how to do that. I also have the Lumber to do it. I had another good night sleep A lot of wake time thinking In the Middle but 10.5 hours according to the tattle tail. sun Is very bright, not a cloud in sight here and 69º now. Have a good day see you all later.

A good Thursday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🍂🍁
Things have settled down here a bit, so I feel like maybe I can concentrate enough to write a post🤪🤪

I have been reading your posts and thinking about you all.

JANE, continued thoughts and prayers for Bridget🙏  I have been holding good thoughts for you as well with your issue.  Glad you are getting able to eat a bit easier.  Always happy to read how Cooper is getting along😘

PATRICIA, thank you for sharing all of the pictures of your building.  It sure helped to understand more of what you have told us.  My concern about the new surface of the deck is that it looks like it could be slippery when the surface is wet!  Surely it is not, BUT????

I did not want to bore you with a lot, but I did want to say that a visit to the orthopedic surgeon that did my left hip and 2 knees 10 years ago was extremely thorough in making sure that these three prosthetics were in good shape and not the cause of my left hip pain.  He wants me to do physical therapy as he feels it is a soft tissue problem.  My current PT and I are going to meet at the community rec center with hopes that I can just do a little water walking to start.  I can not submerge my incision for another 3 weeks at the earliest, but at least this will give me some easy moving that I won't be fearful of falling.  This surgeon also commented on how degenerate my lower back is and that it very well might be the culprit to my pain.

I have been on the phone with our son who is trying to buy their next home, so I best get this posted NOW.  My best to EVERYFRIEND 💐

Jenny

JENNY, it's so good to hear from you!  I've been wondering where you were and if you were on a healing path.  I sure hope what the Dr. are suggesting will help to take away the pain.  I only have one leg bothering me and sometime I want to scream at it.  I can't imagine all the pain you must be enduring!  My prayers are going with you.

I've had a "canning day".  I peeled potatoes until I thought I'd never get finished. And I have 8 beautiful pints finished and waiting to be labeled and stored for "when the snow flies".  Another batch is just about ready to begin it's journey through the canner.  And when I come home from my post-op appt. tomorrow there will be a third batch to go....if I'm not too tired.

Cooper's mommy picked him up tonight and he won't be back until tomorrow after lunch.  I'm sure gonna miss him.  There's not gonna be a doggie in my bed tonight!

Bridget had a bad day today!  Needs more prayers!  Thanks for helping!

Rain stopped around 3 and the day turned beautiful!

Second cannerful of taters is out and cooling on the counter and I'm heading for the haystack.  I'm tired but going to bed with a feeling of accomplishment tonight.  I planned to do something and I did it.  Tomorrow I'll finish the taters and maybe set the sauce to cooking.  I have meatballs and everything to make it the best spaghetti sauce ever!

Before I start anything here, I have to make my post-op appt 15 miles away and then back after the appt.  Cathy is picking me up at 7:30 so I probably won't be in here until later in the morning.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, already 70 and not even 5am yet.No wonder I woke  to  the AC running.Really don't  like this humidity either. Yes terday was rain on and off all day and looks like today  and  tomorrow will be the same. With all  the rain t his summer and s till getting it makes us here all wonder what the snow will be like  this coming winter. Mother Nature must  be angry with us earth people this year.

SHIRLEY  reading about your daughter's health problems makes me appreciate the the good health my 3 and I have had. Really cannot think of anyone in my family who had life long health problems.

LLOYD  I am  too stubborn to give up. I will fight till the end. I do get fed up with the rediculous rules the manager of this building comes up with. Most are hers and not the company who owns the building. Ny okder son had bee hives when the orchard was going and he made honey and sold it. I still have 2 unopened bottles of it. I would never buy what passes for honey in the markets now.

JENNY  sorry you are still in pain. Believe my I know what lower back pain feels like. Hope the water walking helps you.

JANE  I pray  today Bridget has a much better day  today. Hopr yout post op check up goes  the way you want.

AMY  gosh I even bea tyou in this morning.

Have a good day and be safe.

Good morning...

Oh my goodness...shhh, it is not raining!!! We are to have more later today though and rain on Sat Sun so the weather guessers say!!

Need to go to pick up more wood for Kyle this morning then home to tidy up. Not much else is on for the day..I hope!!

Gloria, I had a good nights sleep, think my shoe laces beat me to bed. I know the dogs did right after they got their last cookie.

Jane, you have been busy! All this canning will come in handy when needed in the winter. I feel that if prices rise in the store our stocks won't.   Prayers continued for Bridget, hope she had a better night last night.

Jenny, hope they can so alleviate the pain for you. Hope you son got his new home!

Better get these ol bones moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm back from the checkup and it was all good news.  Healing is going well and they are going over the pieces they removed and have found NOTHING to worry about yet.  HOORAY!

LLOYD, look at the top line of "stuff" above the box where you post.  The first one is a dark B.  That gives your post bold.  Follow that line over until you come to an A with a red line in front of it.  If you click on that you can choose a size for your post.  And the one next in line with all the little boxes in it gives you colors to choose from.  Good luck!

When we left for Danville the sun was so bright and so low it was blinding.  We almost heaved a sigh of relief when we crossed the bridge and drove into heavy fog.  It was foggy with sun poking through all the way.  Not a fun trip.  When we came out to come home the sun had climbed higher and it was behind us and the fog was gone.  Better trip home.  The temp is only up to 55 at almost 10 a.m. but it's only heading for a high of 70.

AMY, I was thinking the same thing about rising prices in the store.  The stuff on the shelves and in the freezer will be (sort of) free and I'm pretty sure it tastes better!

Haven't heard any news from Bridget yet this morning.  I hope the prayers are working!  Thank you all!

I'm going to have to get back to the kitchen pretty quick.  I still have taters to deal with and I want to get the last of maters cooking to make some spaghetti sauce.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane ,that is great news!!!Yes HOORAY!!!

Starting to clear up here....for how long is anyone's guess. Floors yet to be washed and I need to trim the neighbours dogs nails. I pulled lean hamburg from the freezer  and that along with a mushrooms, brussel sprouts and baked tater with wild blueberry cheese cake for dessert for supper.

URGENT QUESTION!!!  Any/all of you that bake potatoes in the oven, been so long I forgot if I put in foil or bake uncovered, if I "poke holes with a fork" first.... and how long. Have the oven on at 350 degrees. Got a whole different problem, messing with the computer last night at direction of #1 son & somehow I lost that bar on the bottom that shows everything (tool bar?), it is there but below where I can see, if I pull the page up I can see it. How do I get it back?  First the potatoes, just put some roasts in the oven that I'll grind most of the meat but always such good flavored broth I have to make one bowl of gravy to go over potatoes. SO, along with some baked potatoes I also plan to cut up a big potato & let it cook in the broth along with the onion & garic. Yum, I forgot to eat lunch!!!

Jane... YEA!!!

Never mind about the potatoes, Google knows everything. The bar down below came back... creapy things going on today. I had a queen size faux down comforter to wash so ordered the pack of 6 fur balls to put in the dryer to "foof" it up. 6 went in but only 5 came out! Dryer ATE my fur ball! The cat litter box is directly below the dryer door so NO WAY it could have fallen out & rolled (doesn't mean I haven't searched that floor every inch). I've even looked inside to see if it melted but nothing showing. I've had that dryer since about 1967 so we are old friends & no secrets, am totally concerned (about it and me).

Maybe an answer, ----- When that bar is showing , Right Click it and select the "Gear". Look for the "Automatically Hide The Taskbar" options and uncheck it. Click OK if it asks that.

No way the "fur ball" could get out of the dryer.  The ball is probably clinging to the comforter, or it fell off the comforter when you removed it from the dryer.  Why do you use 6 fur balls?  Two are plenty.

WHAT'S A FUR BALL?

I ran out of pint jars!  I have 5 oddball pints left and that's it and I can't buy any more around here!  I'm going to have to finish the taters in quarts tomorrow.  And I have spaghetti sauce made with the LAST of the home grown tomatoes simmering in the crock pot waiting to be canned tomorrow.  That will have to be canned in the pint and a half jars that I bought last year so I could fit whole sausages in them.  I guess that will work because I don't have any sausages....just meatballs.  That's on the schedule for tomorrow.

Cooper is still here.  Frankie is working until 10 tonight and as soon as she picks hime up, I'm hitting the hay.  I'm beat right down to my socks and that's bad because I'm not wearing socks.

I hope everyone had a good day and I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

The package just came (Amazon) yesterday with 6 & instructions said use all 6. Since "I don't know nuthin", I follow the rules. Seriously, you know how it is when you know what you're looking for has GOT to be there so every time I pass by that utility room I step in & look around again. In the dryer as well. I did not take the comforter but about 8 steps from utility room to area between kitchen & family room where I put up the folding dryer to let it air before putting on the bed.

These are so neat, weigh nothing & not nearly as much trouble as the real feather comforters. My daughter gave it to me for the motorhome & it was so light I decided to get one for the house. I bought a king size & brought the queen size in the house, didn't want to hurt her feelings by telling her RV bed is king, the 3 house beds are queen. I was finding the quilts & blankets I used were making the old bones hurt because they were so heavy. This is the first time I washed it. Have real down on the bedroom downstairs but will decide how to make it usable again since over time all the feathers/down has lumped into sides. One of those jobs "the ladies that volunteer for hand sewing for their churches" could probably fix & sell at a fund raiser. What can I say, we grew up when everything had more than one life, right?  I am so tired, going to turn in early since I got up way too early & no nap.

Rick, that tool bar or whatever it is came back on it's own. Gloria also has trouble every time her HP has updates. Thanks for the tip, probably won't be the last time I lose something on a computer (or in the house).  ::)

Wishing all peace & sweet dreams. Going to give/offer the cats one more meal. They sure didn't like the hamburger for their last meal. Before the stores started selling the pre-packaged meats the cats loved it. They have plenty of the dry Friskies that is supposed to help for furballs (not the dryer kind) & they are doing a lot of cleaning up/shedding.

Good morning...foggy one that is and chilly!! Kyle put a fire on this morning, not sure if it is just for now or will stay on for the day.

Laundry to do after we take back the bushel basket that  had the tomatoes in. Also need to pick beans and maybe pull the plants if little coming on them.

Jane, oh no...are there no jars at Walmart? Neighbour was saying yesterday that Canadian Tire had a whole whack of jars in. I may have to get some as I have no pints left just half pints I want to do mushrooms in. Hope you can find some jars.

Shirley, I will do a potato partially in the microwave then bake it. Less time in the oven and I do end up with a crispy skin. I bake it at 400° for roughly 30 min later it with butter and garlic.

Better move it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's dense foggy here and they have a warning out to drivers to be careful until 10 or later when the fog will lift.  Thank goodness this isn't one of Frankie's early days to get to work.  She doesn't have to be there until 1.

SHIRLEY, that's OK, you can call them whatever suits your fancy!  I have strange names for my stuff too.  Lots of jars on my canning area are actually labeled "taters and maters".  It suits me fine!

AMY, I checked on line and it does say that my local WM has pint jars on hand.  Cathy is going to check that out when she shops this morning and if they do, she'll get me 2 boxes.  We'll see what happens there.  I will NOT buy them from AMAZON.  Theirs are 2 and a half times the regular price!  WalMart does have them on line.  If there aren't any in the store, I'll order some.  I'm going to need them for the squash soup and for veggie soup.

Better get my "rear in gear", get off this chair and start something or it'll be a lazy day.  I have to load up the car and make a trip to the recycling center this morning before noon, too.  My baskets are full!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  If it's foggy where you are, be careful!

Good morning everyone, I think I was asleep before my head made it to t he pillow las t night . You might think I had worked hard all day  to sleep  that way. I did see something this morning I have no t seen for 2 days, a patch of blue in the sky, but  we still have rain in  the forecast. 59 now but feels damp in here  this morning.

LLOYD  wish my little great grandson lived closer so I could see him more often.

JANE  glad y ou had good news yesterday with the check up. Seems like I always had to drive into the sun going to work and going home. Some days worse than others.

AMY  would you have a slice of that cheese cake left? One of those things I cannot pass up, yummy with those wild blueberries is double yummy.

SHIRLEY i NEVER WRAP A POTATO with foil and never poked with a fork either. None ever exploded either. Depending on size about an hour at 350.

Guess I wll go get my breakfast ready, getting hungry.
Have a good day and be safe.

Some directions call for covering (or wrapping) them with foil after microwave cooking. I believe this allows them to continue to cook after removal from microwave, in addition to keeping them hot while cooking other stuff.
For the lazy (me), locally we can buy baking potatoes already cleaned, prepared, and wrapped in plastic, that can just be put in the MW and cooked as is. They are properly vented so that the plastic does not blow up as cooking.
I do believe that a baked potato is better when done in the oven.Does something for the flavor, and the skin which I like.

The bushes from the maters growing in my yard have landed in the recycling and the last of the maters themselves were made into my MIL's Italian Spaghetti sauce and is right now in the canner to be eaten when the snow flies...or earlier if we choose.  Two things done today.  Now for the taties!

Had a piece of cheese cake!  Thanks, AMY,  Um Ummmmm gooood!

I'm hungry for a baked potato!  But it will have to wait.  Spaghetti is on the menu today with the sauce that wasn't enough for another jar in the canner.

Cathy just texted me that she got 2 boxes of pint jars at WM and has them in her cart now.  HOORAY!  I'm saved!  Don't have to do the rest of the taters in quarts!  But I might anyway cause I have all that donated squash to make soup to can!  Need pints for that.

Back to work!  Do whatever suits your fancy today!

Good morning from the Interior at 33 degrees. It's still lightly snowing as it did all day yesterday, but no real accumulation. I don't know what I'll find to do today. My friend bought me some more high bush dried cranberries and three pints of birch syrup. Another friend sent her husband over with some frozen salmon.

I finally had to text everyone and ask them to stop for now. I'm not ungrateful, but I wonder if one, I'm becoming a project for my friends or two, if they're cleaning out their freezer or pantry, and three, I have nothing to give in return unless I begin regifting! I'm the only one using this stuff, and I'll probably still have some left next summer!

Thursday saw another thousand more new Delta cases and ten deaths statewide. The Feds are sending 400 hundred medical personnel to the state as the hospitals are rationing care. The Governor has announced that all state workers will work remotely other than emergency crews, and we're heading into another locked-down winter. I forget what our old life was like.

Patricia, please keep the snow your way. I know we will get some in Oct but don't mind waiting. Nice that your friends gift you with these goodies. Jane's ,gift her with squash!

Neighbour asked if I would shorten the sleeves on his shirts....a job I don't like doing (rather make a quilt) but will do them for him. Great day out so far, laundry blew out ,Kyle cut the grass again and some "stuff" put away for winter.

....mutter-mutter-mutter.... had a post all done & it blew away! Gotta run now, but thanks for all the suggestions for baked potatoes! Cleaning out closets & kitchen cabinets sure makes a mess...

Had a call from a friend my age that had week end guests, the wife went to her Dr when they go back home, for a sinus infection & tested positive for Covid! Both had their shots. Friend thinks she has passed the time for catching & not only had Covid but has had the shots. Not sure how we will find an end when it keeps changing.

Still have much to do around here & better keep rolling. Found a group that will be here Monday to clean gutters & trim out the volunteer trees about twice as tall as me in the berm & about waist high in a flower bed next to the sidewalk to the front door. I've cut them down every few weeks in front but can't keep up in the berm. Think I will cry with losing some of my "family" flowers in the process. I have plants from my mother & from a couple different houses we lived in but they are getting buried under these red bud trees, elm & mulberry. I don't think this crew will have or take time to work around the keepers & since I can't keep the volunteers from returning all the time, "will think about it tomorrow"... or not.

Gotta get busy. Gloria, can't imagine not loving those fried apples but since I like the sweet & softer apples that could be the difference. It's okay to be different, right? I would LOVE to have a tree ripe red delicious apple right now~~~

Patricia, send ME the snow... or better yet, send ME to the snow! YES!

Rick, I've seen those ready to bake potatoes but didn't think about buying them. I usually just bake in the microwave but since I had the oven on & fairly full with 2 cast iron Dutch ovens full of roasts to grind when done... thought it a good time to oven bake 4. Turned out good, I cut one in half & mashed the insides with lots of butter & shredded cheese, put back in the skins & back in oven. Yummy... and by then it was ready to take the roasts out, make a gravy with all those good drippings so sliced an end of one roast into bite sizes & covered with gravy, tasted pretty good. I had already fried a whole chopped onion in a big chunk of butter, drained a can of green beans of half their water & dumped them into the onion & cooked down. Fixed a bowl/dish up to freeze for the next camping trip when I'm alone. Even if I have no electricity I can turn on the generator to "nuke" in the microwave & add a single serve of applesauce, I'm a happy camper.  I'm hungry, skipped lunch & nearly supper time! I've done this a lot since Cas died, my neighbor called it "lupper"....

Oops, you snuck in, Amy. Shorten sleeves is one job Cas never asked me to do. Always would bring new pants or suits to have me take up half or quarter of an inch on one leg because the alterations people refused to do individually & he had one leg only slightly longer but so picky the trousers had to "break" just right or he wasn't happy, and the waist had to fit perfect, belt was not to wrinkle the waist (Heaven forbid), so I'd take it in that quarter inch. ::)

Shirley, I found it rather funny that he asked did I have a sewing machine. I could have said no as I do have more than one...I think 7. He still has his sewing kit from the army but I guess he figures a machine would do the alterations quicker.

Well, the day is over as far as I'm concerned.  And I'm beat right down to my socks again but it was a good and a productive day.  I have 3 pint and a half jars of old fashioned Italian spaghetti sauce over my MIL's recipe and 7 more quarts of taters waiting to be cleaned up, labeled and put away for "when the snow flies".  Cooper went home and the kitchen is all cleaned up.

And wonder of wonders, Cathy found me an electric pressure canner to buy today!  It won't be here until this coming Friday so I'm taking the week off from canning and then doing the squash soup next week.  I'm so excited about this!  I can't wait to try it out!

It was a gorgeous day here, today!  The sun was out and there was a lovely air moving.  Cooper and I took three walks and he never wanted to come back home.  Tomorrow, I'm going to try to make it to church.  I missed the last two Sundays and I'm ready for this one.  I have no plans for tomorrow so I'll just take it as it comes.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!  And may God keep the snow in Alaska!  I don't want it here!

The furball is found!  I am stunned that with a bright light & using her phone/camera, daughter found it stuck inside to the right of the door opening. Not sure what it was hanging onto but at least I won't wonder any longer if it melted!

I just deleted a long paragraph of whining about the pool, think I've griped about it enough for this year. Better go touch up the kitchen, take my Sat night bath & wash my hair, we'll fill 2 pews at church & at least 2 booths & tables at McDonald's in the morning. The great grands have more soccer games during the day so they will all be busy. I make a point of NOT going to any of the games for fear someone will have feelings hurt if I don't show. Still to be in the upper 80s to low 90s this week, but the lower temps at night make it more pleasant.

Glad you found the canner, Jane. I'm still debating whether to get an air fryer. I've got a George Foreman ready to put on the shelf in the basement, with the FryBaby I cleaned & took down this past week. Already have shelves full with the meat tenderizer, various other stock pots, slow cookers, you name it & I've tried. Still use the old cast iron more than any other appliances except the microwave. Have the Black & Decker convection oven I thought would solve all my problems & can't remember when I used it last. I don't take to changes very well. Probably wouldn't use the air fryer, either.

One thing I used to used a lot when camping by myself, was the single hamburger grill that was round on one side & square on the other. The heating part was square & just right to make a slice of toast after frying an egg ... doesn't take up a lot of space, & I have a little electric pan to heat water for coffee, so I'd pack it along with an extention cord in a tote, pull it out of my conversion van & set up on a picnic table (I stayed at Corp of Eng campgrounds with electricity), could have my breakfast before heading out. Both vans we had came with queen size beds that were very comfy, room for port-a-potty so what more could you ask for? Still have the old red Coleman cooler that kept better than any other.

Sweet dreams & God Bless, Shirley

Good morning..

A day of rest here although I may get the neighbours shirts done and that job is done. We are to lose our power from 7:30 to 10:30 today while the hydro is putting in an new pole and transformer box. We do have back up generator here and Kyle tried it out yesterday just to make sure it is working.

Jane, you will enjoy your electric pressure canner and it sure will get a work out! Good for Cathy on finding the needle in the hay stack!

Shirley, have fun with family today. I really enjoy my air fryer. I have yet to try a blooming onion but that is one of the next things I want to try. Fish, potatoes, french fries and Janies grilled cheese are all delicious when done in the fryer.

Better get a move on and get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

SHIRLEY, AMY I also open a pint jar of my canned taters, rinse them, spray a little butter on them, salt and pepper and throw them in the A/F.  Takes about 5 minutes and they're great if Frankie decides to stay for supper.  She loves them!  One hamburger for me or couple hotdogs...there's no end!

A good Sunday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🍁🍂

Unfortunately, I am not going to do my water exercises until after the six weeks and I can remove my sling.  We drove to the rec center and Bob went in to check things out.  The "ramp" I remembered turns out to be 5 or 6 gradual steps about 6" high, and the water is 3 and a half feet deep.  Just a couple of weeks to wait, so all is good.

Yes, our son, DIL and Ollie Doodle did find a home to buy.  It is very nice and has a back yard for Oliver to go out in.  It is in a very nice and safe community in San Francisco.  We are excited for them and can not wait to see it first hand.  Someday 🤪

Love reading all about the canning many are doing.  I miss the good ol days when my mom and I would can together😘

Continued thoughts and prayers for Bridget🙏🙏

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND ‼️

Jenny

AMY, Annie was an accomplished pill finder, too.  But she loved those Milo's Kitchen meat balls and her pills were touch enough that I could punch them into the middle of a meatball and she'd eat it right down.

We've had our walk and an outie in the yard and my lunch and checked in with all my kids and now I'm going to see if my eyes would like a little nap.  Cooper is already out.  OOPS, it's almost time for his mother to come pick him up.  Guess I better wait for a nap until she shows up.

Maybe I'll stretch his legs again.  He's holding out on me today.

Interrupted my post for a walk with Cooper (his idea) and he produced.

Nice to see you back, Jenny.  Sorry you can't jump right in the pool and get started but it's not going to be too long.  Good news from your son.  Hope you get to see their house soon!  Take care and the days will fly

GLORIA, this is the first time in my life that I ever remember a shortage of jars, lids and canning supplies.  I think a lot of homebound people have taken it up.  That's all I can think of.  The manufacturers can't keep up.  And Amazon has them but they are overcharging!  I won't be taken in!

Beautiful day in Central PA.  Enjoy your day...wherever you are!

Jane, this little muffin will find it in a piece of hot dog, I have wrapped it in meat, stuffed it in chicken and tucked it in peanut butter on toast.  Must admit it is funny as you will see the chewing  of the food , then she spits the pill out!! I will try meat balls next, thank you for the idea.

Amazing how animals that seem to chomp and swallow can then just reject an item.  The cat we had did not like peas. When given a dish of food that looked somewhat like stew he would down it all but when he was finished there would be a couple of peas on the dish --- with no damage to  them.  Amazing little creatures.

Amy, I think the funniest thing I ever saw our dog do, was actually "spit" a pill out that I had hidden in a lump of dog food.  Up until then, I didn't know dogs could actually spit!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for September 15 2021
Post by: JaneS on September 26, 2021, 09:59:14 PM
Oh yes, Tomereader, they can spit!  I watched them look for pills and actually spit them out.  At first I tried mixing it in their meal food and they ate everything on the plate and licked it clean...with the pill still lying there in plain sight!  And the way they gobbled up their food, I wouldn't think they could find a little pill and eat around it.

I sort of took today off!  It was a beautiful day and I was outside for a lot of it.  Didn't need a jacket, just my sunglasses.

LLOYD, I saw you this morning but you didn't see me so I thought you might not see my answer to you!

I'm hitting the haystack early tonight!  My eyes have already entered slam shut mode! And they're also itchy so I'm going to close them and let them rest.  I never did get my nap today!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane S-Tomereader...oh yes, the getting of our dogs in taking a pill...I could tell you a few stories of trying to hide it inside food, believe you me, you cant fool a dog, they are one step ahead of you all the time, and if they tell you it is not going to go down their throat, they mean it, and they will do everything in their power to make sure that it doesn't...they know all the tricks we use..

Good morning..
A rainy day here, started in the night.  A day of odd jobs to be done in the house  after we get back home. need to take the bushel basket back to the farm then stop at a store for a bbq lighter. We usually buy matches but they are not the same as they used to be. One with the white tip are scarce to find.

Rammel, both these dogs like vegetables no problem but one tiny pill is soon spit out by the Border Collie x Australian Shepherd.  I think I have found the way to give her the pill, in a piece of bread with a lot of peanut butter...will see how long that lasts .

Tome, dogs are so smart when it comes to meds. if I get out the ear med both will disappear into the bedroom on me. Little do they know I prefer them up on the bed to put the solution in their ears as apposed to bending/getting down on the floor.

Lloyd, hope all goes well at the VA hospital for you today.

Jane, going back to the farm stand this morning ,hope I can come home with nothing to do.. ;D

Gloria, I am strongly thinking of getting the chocolate cheesecake, never had one of those and it looked so good!!

Jenny, patience is part of healing and when you can go for your water therapy your shoulder will be in better shape to do what is needed. All too soon we find out we have more patience for others than we do ourselves.

Better get a hitch in my get a long and get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  So far that's LLOYD and AMY but I'm including anyone else who shows up!

I'm up but I'm not attem yet!  When I take a day off, sometimes it spills over into the next morning!  The freezer inventory is still in my plans for today.  The kitchen one is the only "for sure" one but depending on how that goes and how lazy it makes me, I might do the one in the storeroom.

Cooper has arrived, had his breakfast, shared mine and now he's telling me it's time to go out.  So I guess getting dressed and ready for a walk is next on my agenda.  And all that stuff is probably boring you all to death.

AMY, get enough chocolate cheese cake to put some in the Hidey Hole.  I'd like to have a piece too.

Now I'm off to start my day.  Should I put an egg in my shoe and beat it?  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, just eard on local wea ther that we will have rain tody and tomorrow. When I pulled  up  the shades i t is sunny and a blue sky. I don' t  know where the weather guessers get their information from but it sure  is not looking out their windows and look outside. Only 51 now and feels like I sure could use some heat in here. Grabbed my warmer robe this morning and it feels good.

AMY  I never shortened sleeves but I remember turning shirt collors. I wonder if they still wear out and the underside is like new. I had a niece with a dog like tha untill she s tarted getting the imported ham at the deli and wrapped a pill in it. Fussy dog, only wanted t he more expensive lunch meat.

JENNY  wonder if I could do stairs only 5 inches high. I might be able to lift these old legs that high. I would love to see the house my daughter and SIL are living in now in Arizona but my traveling days are over. She does send me a lot  of pictures or take her iPad outside and show me around out there. Also seen the rooms inside that way, too.

JANE  the neighbors who really helped me get started canning took me to Providence and the Salvation Army store. They had a load of jars all sizes for 2 cents each.

RAMMEL  never had a cat that did that but we had one who loved to eat corn on the cob. He would hold it down wit h one paw and eat all the corn off the cob as neat  as could be.

LLOYD  hope your VA visit this morning goes good for you.

Reading about dogs and pills made me remember my younger son, never could eat baked beans. When they were in the boy Scouts t hey had a weekend capnig trip in Conn. and on Sa turday night family's were invited  to a bean bake-they had ot her food, too. The scout mas terknew about the beans and whey they filled the plates for everyone he put  ONE bean on his plate and after the meal when they brought their plat es back to be cleaned and washed he had a laugh to see that 1 bean still on his plate.

AMY  as much as I love chocolate and cheesecake I  tried a piece of the chocola te cheese cake and did not care for it. Either it was not chocolately (if that is a word) or creamy enough but for me they did not go together.

JANE  I am here. I did not chat wit h Regina yesterday.  They finally have their solar panels hooked up- took almost a year for the batteries they ordered to get there. They bought a small freezer last week and yesterday they were going shopping after church and she planned on getting a lot of meat before the prices go higher and fill that freezer up. I knew it would take time for her to wrap the meat for the freeezer and told her not to rush to get on Skype. I sure miss her when we have a day not connecting.

Have a good day everyone and stay safe.

On a run again. Guy that was to clean gutters & cut out volunteer trees just called, supposed to be here "early am" and at 10:30 says he won't get here till 3:00 pm. *#~ and I could have slept a little longer. So tired today I am staggering.

Gloria, I remember my mother having to do that with Dad's shirt collars! She said it was his short neck (and we look like our heads were just glued to our shoulders, thanks, Dad). Wish these cats would eat corn on the cob or any kind of veggie. They want fresh meat & won't eat this stuff Sam & Walmart sell as hamburger now. I forgot to save them some of the roast before I cooked so have to go get an eye of round for them today. If it keeps going up they will become vegans! Opened a new can of salmon for them this morning & didn't get all the little round bones mashed so have a dish with about 6-8 bones cleaned off slick as a whistle.

Oh, Amy, I found the wooden matches at the Dollar Tree, little boxes & the big ones. I keep a stock of them for the all day candles for power out. We have a generator but not built in, only used it the 8 days without power years ago. Can turn on the one in the motorhome if needed las 7 years, got everything needed in there.

Better move or I'll fall asleep in this chair. Y'all behave today!

We used to call them "Blue Tips".  Got them in a slide open box. I think I have some somewhere that my son kept for camping. We always got stories about being careful of storing them. That mice could grab one and run with it and it lighting on something and causing a fire.
As a kid we would cut the tips off and put then in a nut and screw in a bolt from both sides. Then toss it in the air and when it hit the ground on one end it would explode like a firecracker.

Rick, maybe that is why they discontinued the strike anywhere matches. We used to strike them on the cookstove lid opening but not anymore.

Good morning from the Interior, still below freezing, but the first snow is slowly melting, highs in the low forties too. I've nothing new or significant that needs doing around the house. Only those pesky little odds and ends that always seem to crop up and those papers need to be finished and sent out that I've been avoiding.

Shirley, you were right about the new balcony being slippery when wet. The snowmelt left standing water directly in the middle. I stood in the doorway and swept it out, and now the metal front is dirty. If I take any outdoor balcony photos this winter, they will be ones zoomed from the doorway!

I'm spending most of my free time taking walks around the world's major cities via YouTube. The best ones have only city noises with any commentary printed on the screen. I'm following different bloggers traveling in South America, Italy, and Europe too. I'm traveling the world from my couch and only paying via my internet connection.

We're not supposed to have candles or matches here. I have battery-operated candles and a small lighter in case of an emergency. Altho the lighter, unused, dates from 2013 so I should check it occasionally.

Well, when we couldn't get firecrackers for the 4th of July during WWII, my youngest brother came up with one of Mom's "pincher" clothespins, turned one piece upside down & used the metal part as a trigger & it would shoot the match out the pincher part & light it. After dark it would shoot enough to arch in the air & stay lit until it burned out. My sister & I were relieved because other years our 2 youngest brothers would chase us around & toss "lady fingers" at us. My sister wouldn't put up with their teasing very long before yelling for Mother.

I do have a box of the bigger matches in the motorhome to light the oven, that's a real challenge to get down on the floor to see the pilot light, push in the knob up above my head & be low enough to see when it catches to stay on! I thought about taking some of the super long matches (like 8") used at Christmas time but a little over kill. I've never been handy with those clicker-strikers. For camping fires I always saved the birthday candles for fire starters, by the time a few of them burn down the wood caught on pretty good. I always strike the matches on the box so will check it out next time, to see if they light on anything else.

Haha, Patricia, I have some mace & pepper spray that far out of date & doubt if it would work, either!

Well, the yard guy was supposed to be here early but called at 10:30 to say it would be 3:00pm. I sure could have used those extra hours for sleep instead of getting up at 4-5 am again. A train comes thru about that time, a mile or so away but it crosses the river & the vibration carries over the sand & wakes the cats. They think it's time for breakfast so sit at the bedroom sliding door & stare in until I get up. I know if they are really hungry they'll go find their own breakfast & leave the icky part by the kitchen door for me to clean up. Won't be long it'll be too cold for them to stay out at night, but as long as I'm up & attum they don't go bird hunting!

Sorry about missing you this morning, JACKIE!  I keep forgetting your morning is a lot earlier than mine.  Guess I thought you were a "last night" visitor.

I finished the inventory of the kitchen freezer and I won't need to buy much for a while.  I have one shelf free to use for candy making and in the meantime, Frankie can use it for her stuff when she comes by on her way from the store.

That's all I have to say except I better check for outdated stuff in my storage areas too.  Also, part of our fire wood at GS Camp was coated with was for easy starts.  It was lots easier to hold a long stick in your hand and then place in the middle of the cooking fire to help get it started.

Jane, you sound like two other people...nope sorry three that have little or no space for anything in freezers or shelves!! One girl I know went to the market on Sat and came home with 10 pie pumpkins.......now she has to either can or freeze them. Told her she has to can in chinks as pureed or mash won't work......for the dog to have on her food. I did come back from the farm market with zilch...other than two honey crisp apples that she gave me to try.

I  tested my mini lighter, it lit right up, but perhaps I should look into those longer metal firestarter's. Add me to the group with no room in their freezers. It's 12:26 here, and I haven't eaten because nothing looks interesting. I can't even donate most of it either, as it was donated to me, and we're no longer allowed to donate here at this time.

I found out this morning that someone was trying to get around that by putting boxes of food in the elevator and sending it to the first floor from the fifth. Unfortunately, the person forgot about the cameras in public spaces. They received a warning violation (you're only allowed three before you're out). Worse, they returned the boxes. We received notices about it via the clips next to our doors.

Oh dear, intentions were good  but the person  didn't think out the process. No food was wasted in the try..

I don't think there's edible pepper in a chemical pepper spray. Those types of items are outlawed here for some reason. I went to a women's meeting some years back, and a state trooper told the women that knives and or guns may be used against you in a court of law. He suggested keys clenched between fingers or to carry a fork. He liked the piercing alarms.

He also said that both men and women take self-defense and are surprised and don't attempt any.

Interesting that Alaska has a high incidence of domestic violence, especially against indigenous women... coincidence?

I had a text from Suzi and she said that Bridget ate scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes.  Suzi said "not a lot but it stayed down".  I hope we are on the way! I think the prayers are working!

And I'm on the way to the haystack!  My eyes have already entered slam shut mode and my body is sayine "I'm tired. Lay me down."  So that's what I'm going to do!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning, Jackie. Can't blame the cats for wake up this morning, just me thinking about all the things needing done & finding good help is not possible. I am so disappointed in the yard work yesterday, had high hopes this man & crew actually knew how to work BUT. And so it goes..

Tom was waiting to come in but the girls (Tiger & Callie) must be in be front. When Callie stays out she likes to come thru the front door or garage door, still won't hang out in the pool area unless I'm out there. Here's Tiger so guess it's time for their breakfast. Callie will come in, she is usually close.

Wishing every friend a happy day, glad to see Bridget is coming along okay, thanks for the update, Jane.

Don't have anyone to show up early this morning so if all goes well, I'll go back for more sleep. Fitbit says I had 4 hours & 40 min sleep, not quite enough.

Good morning..

Another nice day in the making here, starting off cool but will warm up.

Sept is just about gone and trees are wearing their fall outfits...some just starting others  in full colours now.

Work around home this today. I have a date with a fridge this morning...

I just have 3 more rows of blocks to sew then I can put this quilt together and on to another one.

Patricia, pepper spray is outlawed here also. One can use bear spray and yes, keys clenched tight in hand is what I do when walking.

Jane, that is good news on Bridget..lets hope she is on the way to recovery . My friends daughter will eat plain rice when her crones gives her grief.

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, wish the weather guessers would stop guessing. Last  week end t hey said a cold front  coming in but it was in the upper 70's both days. Yes terday said rain and the sun was shining all day, today showers  this morning and "heavy thunderstorms" all afternoon. First time I ever saw a t hunders torm called heavy, Oh well I will still look out the window  to see what  the weather is like.
Today is shopping day for Yvette and seems like I am sta rting to run out of a lot  of things so she will have a lot of shopping to do. Wish I could go with her. Things are getting crazy in this s ta te. T here is a mandat e that all firemen and police have to be vaccinat ed and many say they will qui t  their jobs. Imagine a small police force wi th all  the shoot ings and killings going on now or a fire wi th only a couple of firemen to fight  it ? Except for in t he cities in all  these towns the firemen are volunt eers, how could they qui t? just  not show up when the alarms alert them?

AMY lemon pie? I like that , too. I just love mos t pies but  never mincemeat or raisin. I made more pies  than cakes all the year s I cooked/baked.

PATRICIA  no candles here either. I have Sensy warmers that have 15 wat t bulbs just big enough to melt amall squares of scented wax.  For a cou ple of years when the manager came in for a look around when my lease was u p for renewal ahd said no candles, told her each time it was not a candle. Now she says nothing. We are no t allowed to open windows once the heat gets  turned on and it  seems to me t he air inside ge ts a stale odor so I like  to have some nice scent  going.

AMY  if yo u like a swee t apple you will like the Honey Crisp apples.  My son has some trees still alive and he and my DIL pick those as their favorites, I rather have a tart  one.

PATRICIA  people are st ill putting items on the table in the laundry room. I look at the things but nothing I ever want or need and I would never take any of the food put there. One time someone put a bag of bagels there and even from a distance you could see  the mold on them.

JANE  so glad t ha t Bridget was able  to finally eat some food and keep it down. Prayers cont inue for her.

JACKIE  hard t o keep up here at times for who is posting or not.

LLOYD  good morning, we just had a brief shower, going to be like this all day.

AMY  I keep looking at the maples at the end of the parking lot but the leaves are still all green. They turn a beautiful red when they  change.

Have a good day ands tay safe.

Gloria, my son and I love raisin pie but when I make it I leave out the sugar as the raisins are sweet enough. Same when I make date squares ,leave out the sugar as the dates are sweet.
I did try a wee piece of the honey crisp ,just to try it and although it was tasty not an apple I would choose.

Lots of lemon pie to share..look in the hidey hole.

I think I would crack a window just a bit as long as the "witch" couldn't see it.....fresh air is nice. In the winter my Dad would see us kids to our room, open up the doors and let the cold air through.....just to exchange the air in the house.

Better get back to work.....jobs changed and outside work is now on the menu. Birdbath   needs cleaning and turned upside down, solar lights put away and water barrels emptied for another year.

Well, I'm still locked out at the front door but I managed to come in the back door.  so if BUBBLE comes by to say I'm missing....I'm not...unless it won't let me in the back door the next time.

Good Morning to Everyfriend!  I hope you are all having a great day.  It rained here almost all night and was still raining early this morning but it has stopped now. And our temp has reached its high for the day of 70º.  Uh-oh, it just started to rain again!  I was afraid it would because it still looked threatening out there.

I'm catching up on stuff that got ignored while I was in canning season.  I didn't realize there was so much I overlooked.

Now I think I'll close my eyes and listen to the rain!  Or maybe I won't hear it when my eyes close.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Jane, happy to see you could use the back door. My date with the fridge didn't happen ,instead we took down the gazebo but left the table and chairs for later. Rain barrels are put away for another year. Planter, bird bath and tender plants have been dealt with.
Phyllis,  hope you are feeling better and find time to say hello.
Time to go let Jesse tire my arm throwing his Frisbee.

I'm heading for the haystack early tonight.  I never did get to close my eyes and listen to the rain.  Phone calls and texts started and I was busy answering them.  And my sister and I talked for over an hour about Bridget being able to come home!  It was the highlight of our day!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  It's all nice and clean and full of zzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Starting out at 41° this morning and will be a cloudy day for most of the day. We are off to the city this morning as Kyle has two appointments. Will check to see if anyone has canning lids for next year  if I get time. We are dropping off items at Sally Ann's and there is a Dollerama close by so will check there. Lunch just may be at the Swiss Chalet if time permits, then on to the next appointment.

Next month Kyle has three appointments and you sure will hear us yell if the next from the oncologist is what we want to hear. The Dr is no bigger than a minute but sure knows her job and works with the patient. We have a long drive to the hospital and they wanted us to come one day for blood work and if ok, come the next for the chemo. We asked if it could be done on one day and she said we could try but if too much on Kyle then it was a two day trip. The trips alone are tiring. The one day was fine for him, mind you he slept most of the way home after chemo and wearing a bottle of chemo home.

Dogs have both had their breakfast, opened up a jar of food that had all the different meats in it, yes including the prime rib. :  Didn't take them long to make their food disappear.

Better get ready to meet the day and load the van. Water for dogs, water for us, boxes for SA  then us. :)

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Up but not attum yet. Tom was only cat out, don't see him but he brought a mole or something for my breakfast. YUCK! At least he didn't eat any of it so will grab a plastic bag to pick up & put in the dumpster.

Glad to hear Bridget is doing so well, Jane. Have a neighbor our age that's had all the surgeries & still going so sure is a pain but, like my daughter, can be controlled.

Amy, don't have any of my outside jobs finished so far. I'm disappointed in my tomato crop this year since 2 of the 3 plants produced nothing. One still blooming & lots of little ones but they were supposed to be BIG! I didn't inherit my parents green thumbs, Dad's tomatoes were plate size & since I have to peel (my tummy doesn't like any skins), not much left after peeling these little marbles so most have gone to my son. Good luck with Kyle's tests.

Jackie, your last post says "yesterday at 11:49pm"... not sure whose time they are using! Right now it is 6:00 am in Wichita, Kansas USA.

Time for me to move along, mower to be here early so I have to get out & unlock gates. We have a language problem & he only understands what HE wants and I don't take bullying very well.  I am not at all pleased with what he did yesterday so do not think this will work. I waited all day for him to show up yesterday & did not get any of the jobs done because I was afraid I wouldn't hear him. I had gates unlocked but not hanging open with a pool, so he pushed against the gate with the bar that goes into the ground instead of the one that opens first, & broke the wooden board, so now I have another job I hope I can fix.

Gloria, I have one of those warmers with different smelling squares of wax. Had it in the bathroom my daughter used when she stayed during cataract surgery. Mine was a gift from the youngest son so I couldn't send it home with her but she found one like it on AmazonI . I clean the litter boxes every time they are used but the aroma lingers.  ::) I bought more wax scents at the Dollar Tree but so far none have much smell to them compared with the original.

I got the new iPad Pro while my daughter was here last week & had her set it up so I can come in here when I'm out of town. Have not tried it yet but she says that as long as there is a signal I should be able to hop on. (She makes it sound so easy!) Taking the laptop is more trouble for no longer than I'm ever gone, but texting is easier on the iPad than my tiny cell phone, got the keyboard with it.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Where I am it's now 8 a.m. and I got up late so I'm ready for some breakfast.  I wonder what's out there to eat.  I'm trying to finish up all the leftovers in the fridge so I'm not eating normal meals but this morning, I crave a scrambled egg.

AMY, drive carefully and come back home safe!

When I checked out my email last thing last night, it said that my new electric pressure canner had been delivered.  I had not been out that door since I collected my mail around 2:30 so I went to check.  And sure enough...there it was!  And the box was BIG.  I had a little trouble getting it inside.  So today, I'll be opening it, checking it out, making myself familiar with it.  I'm still not going to start the squash soup until the weekend but I'll be READY!

Now I'm off to get dressed and have my breakfast.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning!  Sorry I haven't been here for a few days but it has been a little bit of a down time for me.  I doing a little better now.  I take it one day at a time and do what I can, when I can.  Thanks, Amy, for thinking of me.  You are one of the nicest, most caring people I think I have ever known.  I don't know how you do all that you do and still find time to think of everyone else.

Good news about Bridget, Jane.  I hope she continues to do well.  It is a long slow process to learn a new way of living her daily life but she has dealt with it for a long time and will learn what she needs to know to get along.

Shirley, when the tree cutter damaged my deck this summer I withheld the payment until he fixed it.  I felt that he broke it so it was his responsibility to fix it.  When I told him I would pay him when he fixed it it was repaired immediately.  You shouldn't have to fix something that your yard man broke, IMO.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a crisp Interior at 14 degrees for 8:25 this morning! I was out all day yesterday due to the site's issues and due to Insurance paperwork, I'd avoided all month. I finally snuck in due to Amy's back door entry, thank you, Amy. Lights were shut off and the room was tidied before leaving.

Gloria, there are so many senior programs here, Meals on Wheels, church pantries, federal and state food programs, etc. A long time ago, I was a building volunteer for the Salvation Army who acts as a conduit between the different programs and the residents. I collected the food when it was delivered here and brought it to five shut-ins. They, the shut-ins had shrunk to two when I had to quit delivering. What I see now is you can always tell delivery dates by the amount and type of food showing on the donation tables. Donations were closed recently by the pandemic surge.

The donated food was either fresh, canned, or boxed. The Meals on Wheels, seem to be paper trays covered with shrink wrap and either cold or hot. When they are donated, I always wonder how old they are and how long  without refrigeration? I've collected some canned food at times after checking the expiration labels but wouldn't touch the others. Within my circle of friends, there is a safer chain of garden extras or bartered foodstuffs. Which is how I, unfortunately, ended up with 9.5 pounds of dried highbush cranberries.

One of my favorite pies is mincemeat. I grew up having the actual meat version but have enjoyed the later fruit one too. A real favorite is a lemon meringue. Sweet potato pie is a more recent favorite from church suppers. I never had that growing up.

I have a good friend with Chrohn's disease. It's a cruel disease that has you starving to death no matter how you eat. My friend was hospitalized and we were told to expect the worse but somehow a miracle was wrought and she's still with us today.

I know why landlords request the windows shut when the heat is on but could never put it into words. Then I found this site,  https://grist.org/green-living-tips/2011-11-14-ask-umbra-is-it-bad-to-leave-a-window-open-when-the-heat-is-on/

"The basic idea of a heating system is to put warm air into a space until that space reaches a certain temperature, recognized and governed by the (programmable, we hope) thermostat. If the warm air is wafting out into the cold, as warm air is wont to do, the system will keep cranking away, merrily burning oil or gas or what-have-you. I checked with Max Sherman at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who confirms that this habit will certainly increase your heating costs, in some cases even doubling them. One of the key things we should all do to make our dwellings more energy-efficient is seal up leaks; open a window or two, and all that work is for naught."

Good morning, Lloyd, Shirley, and Phyllis!

We had a grand day, weather co-operated just right for the dogs and driving. Hit the appointments on time and we did get to actually sit in for  a meal at Swiss Chalet.......and very little supper is needed tonight! The waitress was a gem, helping us to chose a meal that wouldn't take to long to cook due to Kyles next appointment. We didn't get any frost overnight but as we head south there was frost on some roof tops. Leaf colour is starting to blossom some dull but the maples are starting to show off!

Jane, have fun and let me know how you like your pressure canner.

Phyllis, good to see you here and hope each day is a better day for you. I agree with you ,the hired help broke it and so should fix it  and at their expense.

Shirley, I think it was hit and miss this summer with gardens. Some folks had an abundance of vegetables while others  very little.  Thankfully my neighbour shared her cucumbers and zucchinis with me as ours were not all that great! Your comment  on what HE wants to hear stuck me funny . The audiologist has  what has ears but doesn't hear on a sign...the answer was corn. I went in and told him that the sign was wrong.......the answer is MAN. :2funny:

Gloria, where are you?

Patricia, thank you for turning off the lights and tiding up.  Crisp is not the word for it!! Brrrr.
We have Meals On Wheels here also plus there are frozen meals that the seniors can buy. Although they said Mon Wed and Fri accepting at the SA they were closed for an indoor meeting.......so back home everything came. Will try again another time and more than likely they will get more!

Better go see what needs to be done..

Well, I won't be enjoying my new canner because they sent me the cooker instead of the canner.  It's one number different and I checked my order.  I ordered the right thing.  They screwed it up.  I wish I could say I'm not paying until I get the right thing but they already have my money.  I'm so down about this.

But I'm still UP about Bridget!  She's home and happier!  Still needs prayers.  Thank you!

AMY, sounds like you had a nice day.

PHYLLIS, I missed you, too but I'm sorry, I never said so on here.  I just said it to myself and breathed a prayer that you were OK.  I'm glad you are!  Welcome back!

I'm going out and take Cooper for a walk now.  And then I'm going to feed hime when we get back.  He eats early at his house.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jane, bet someone along the way decided since they didn't have the canner they'd just send you the cooker & maybe you wouldn't notice the difference?  Naw, THEY didn't know the difference!  I do believe that's what goes on at the pool stores, so much stuff they don't have right now so they just replace "what you need" with what THEY have!

#2 son is supposed to come over tonight so I need to clean a path, make sure all litter boxes are clean & tidy myself up. I still have to vac the pool before I can go to bed & I am already snoring. :-\

Phyllis, sorry you've been bummed out. I still think of you as my Kansas buddy. I had already given up by the time I realized what he was saying about my gate, standing right there & he said, "your gate is broke".... but it wasn't before HE broke it. I expected his work to be so much better, it was when he dealt with my husband! He insists he wants to send a statement for the mowing but I think I will see if I can just pay him off and find someone else. Too stressful to deal with someone that only hears what he wants.

Better move along, getting dark so early I can't get anything done in the evenings.

It's still in the high 40s, up from the mid 40s overnight and only heading for a high of 64 today.  Fall has arrived!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Daylight delayed because of clouds & rain. Tom is hiding, (he is terrified of rain/storms & just about everything else). Looks like no sense cleaning the pool because rain will wash all the stuff the guy blew out of the gutters & onto the grass carpet around the pool will wash right down into that water I've spent weeks trying to make pretty. Pretty hard rain right now, so won't need to water, right? Thunder & lightning, wish I had the pool pump off, I can still hear my father telling us to turn off all electric appliances when it stormed. Probably everything has built in protection now. Goodness, that rain is coming down!

Hope everyone has a great day with a lot of feel good moments. First of Oct tomorrow & I go into fall mode. Haha, even tho the stores have had Halloween stuff out since mid-summer!

Good morning every one, had one of  those sleepless nights and finally fell asleep a t almost  5 am. The CNA is due at 11:30 today. I so dislike all the different hours t ha t the "boss" at the place  that sends them out has been sending Fran a t all different times. I like things at the same time every day excep the time I wake up. Think I like routine? Half of the parking lot is closed off today, the yearly resurfacing before winter and snow get here.
Tomorrow I might not make it here, between 10 and 12 we will be getting our flu shots down in the community room.
Better go get my breakfast and get dressed for the day. A short post from me for a change, not  long winded as usual.  Hope I can get a nap in this afternoon for a change, Have not had one all week with  the odd hours Fran has been coming.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Hello Everyfriend!  I hope you all had a good day, even if you had to have it in the rain.  News of Bridget is still good.  She's eating real food and keeping it down, mostly resting and recuperating.  That's good news!

Now I have to post something that I'd rather not post at all.  Yesterday, we had a family conference call with the dr. who did the surgery on the inside of my cheek.  They have been carefully inspecting the stuff they took out and after minutely examining all of it over and over, they found minute cancer cells.  I have to go back for a PET scan and another type of scan next Thursday.  After her call, I was devastated and I said I sure wasn't expecting that.  My daughter said, "Maybe they got it all and there's no more in there."  When she said that, I perked up a bit.  But now I'm asking for your prayers for me until I have the two scans and we find out for sure!  I'm trying not to think about it and when I do, I just ask Him to stay with me!  I know He'll get me through.  Right now, I'm doing something I NEVER do and that's sharing bad news with my friends but I want you all to know and to ask His blessing.  Thanks.

I know it's a bit early but I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
