Nature gave us one tongue and two ears so that we could listen twice as much as we talk
Zenon
"Heal The World"
by: Michael Jackson
Think about—um—the generations and they say we wanna make it a better place for our children, and our children's children, so that they they they know it's a better world for them, and think if they can make it a better place
There's a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could be much brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You'll find there's no need to cry
In this place you'll feel there's no hurt or sorrow
There are ways to get there
If you care enough for the living
Make a little space
Make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
If you want to know why
There's a love that cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares for joyful giving
If we try we shall see
In this bliss we cannot feel
Fear or dread
We stop existing and start living
Then it feels that always
Love's enough for us growing
Make a better world
To make a better world
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
And the dream we were conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this Earth, crucify its soul?
Though it's plain to see
This world is heavenly
Be God's glow
We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel you
are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we'll cry happy tears
See the nations turn
their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space
To make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
You and for me
Make a better place (You and for me)
Make a better place (You and for me)
Make a better place (You and for me)
(You and for me)
Heal the world we live in (You and for me)
Save it for our children (You and for me)
Heal the world we live in (You and for me)
Save it for our children (You and for me)
Heal the world we live in (You and for me)
Save it for our children (You and for me)
Heal the world we live in (You and for me)
Save it for our children
A married couple was in a terrible accident where the man's face was severely burned.
The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from his body because he was too skinny.
So the wife offered to donate some of her own skin.
However, the only skin on her body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from her buttocks.
The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and they requested that the doctor also honor their secret
After all, this was a very delicate matter.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the man's new face
He looked more handsome than he ever had before! All his friends and relatives just went on and on about his baby face!
One day, he was alone with his wife, and he was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice.
He said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me
How can I possibly repay you?"
My darling," she replied, "I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek."
This is what all of you 70+ year old's have to look forward to:
This is something that happened in an Aged Care Centre
The people who lived there have small apartments but they all eat at a central Cafeteria.
One morning, one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast so my friend went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything was OK
She could hear him through the door
He said that he was running late, and would be down shortly, so she went back to the Dining area.
An hour later, he still hadn't arrived; so she went back up towards his room and she found him on the stairs
He was coming down the stairs but was having a hell of time
He had a death grip on the hand rail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right.
She told him she was going to call an ambulance but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain, and just wanted to have his breakfast
So she helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast.
When he tried to return to his room he was completely unable to get up even the first step so they called an ambulance for him.
A couple hours later she called the hospital to see how he was doing
The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his legs in one leg of his boxer shorts.
Good morning...
I have one less job to do this morning!! We had a lovely , much needed rain during the night!
Doing Callie's DD today.. then picking up the cooler from the neighbour. We planted some rhubarb in her garden yesterday and that rain will help it!
Rick, I love older homes. When we bought this place each year we would upgrade the rooms plus we built an addition on it. Dry wall and lots of insulation were put in the walls.Keeps us warm in the winter and somewhat cooler in the summer.
Bubble, thank you for the new start, you always come up wih the nicest posts. Now thank you for the heads up, think when we go to the nursing home it will be commando ,then no problem walking.. :2funny:
Jane, hope your computer is soon fixed!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone!
Loved the joke Bubble 😁 Shared it with my husband. His 50th class reunion is this month.
It' 59°F, headed to 90°F. Ron tells me that is the hottest day predicted for here, for the next month. Sounds good. More weed whacking today, and laundry. I might do some sewing. I need another sleeveless top. And there's watering, always watering.
I hope everyone has a lovely day.
Happy July Oneth!
I've read the posts every day but there's no subject I can relate to. :(
Bubble's story about the man in the nursing home reminded me of a tour I took of Greece. It was headed by a college professor and there were mostly students on it. He had filled in the group with non-students and two friends and I were some of them.
One morning, we went into breakfast and sat down by a "frat guy" who looked sleepy. We wished him a Good Morning and he replied in a puzzled tone, "I think I put my boxer shorts on backwards." He pulled out his waistband and said, "Yep. Gotta do something about that" and left.
We wondered what the students had done the night before! ;D
Good morning EVERYFRIEND💐
I just finished reading all of the month of June's posts. You all have so many interesting things to share and it is delightful to read your posts.
We are finally settling back in after months of being on the go. Our time last winter spent in Prescott AZ was very enjoyable. Having a lot of special time with our son and family was wonderful and oh my, how I miss those two little grandsons.
We were home for almost a month before it was time to head to Boston to attend our second oldest grandsons graduation from high school. It was a delightful time and we sure enjoyed all the festivities and family time there.
Out the back door of the son's home they had a bird feeder and I could have sat there all day watching the MANY different bird that were feeding. Beautiful Cardinals and Bluejays....and so many other unknown colorful birds.
After our nice Bostonvisit we flew to Arizona to stay with our youngest son and his wife's special Oliver Doodle. They came to Colorado to her family's side reunion. While in Phoenix we drove up to Prescott to see the family and my sweet little loving grands. While there I had an eye appointment that was a follow up to my cataract surgery I had in February. It was a day trip as we had the doodle with us and one of the grands is allergic to the doggie dander or what ever, even tho the doodle thought to be allergenic free. It was a short visit but a very successful one.
June flew by so quickly it seems.
Yesterday I had a wonderful thing happen. I met a lady and we started chatting. In no time at all we figured out our path had crossed many years before. I babysat her and her older brother when she was born. It seems it is a small world and if you spend any time at all chatting to a stranger you will soon find that there is a connection of some kind. It made my day and we are hoping to keep in contact and reminisce more.
Thank you, BUBBLE for our new place to chat and enjoy each other. I want you to know that I pray for you and your family as well as your country during these hour times of conflict. 🙏🙏
I have been much too long winded today, but it has been awhile since I have been here and I had a LOT to say.
Enjoy your day and be safe and keep as cool as you can.
Jenny, so good to see you. One of your songs could be On The Road Again oŕrr I've Been Everywhere.
Don, Happy Canada Day 🍁 to you!
Thanks, Bubble, and thanks to all of you for making me laugh. Such fun stories to read. :2funny: That is the best medicine ever!
Good morning, 69 presently, heading up to mid-eighties for a high. Tomorrow, the heat returns, and we'll possibly make it into the nineties. Meets and greets, morning chores and routines finished, and I've got coffee at hand.
I've also got someone outside my door, drilling holes in the wall, exposing the pipes, preparatory to their doing my section of the vertical pipe dismantlement. Basically drilling outside my door and hammering from the apartment to the above left. The manager told me when they get to my apartment, it should be only a few hours, so, I'll leave Farrah locked in the bedroom.
Bubble, as always, you've made our day with July's segue. I'm going to be 74 at the end of the month, so I can appreciate the jokes although, Callie, I've never gone backwards. ::)
OLM, this year was my 56th class reunion. I didn't go, actually, have only been to two.
Jenny, it's nice to see you checking back in and still keeping busy.
Phyllis, my favorite was the a--kissing. :) My first mother-in-law, who had two sons she doted on and a daughter she treated like Cinderella's stepmother.
Amy, happy Canada Day to you!
Good afternoon all!
Callie, If you don't see anything you can relate to, tell us something about you and if we can we'll relate to you. If I can't add anything, I'll certainly enjoy your stories.😀
Patricia, I went to one of mine. Since I moved around so much as a kid, there just wasn't the bond. Ron went from grade school thru High school with the same kids. There's a few he goes to reconnect with.
Phyllis, agree! Hope your day is filled with laughter.😃
Amy, how do you celebrate Canada Day? As a teenager I sailed the Inland Passage (east side of Vancouver island) a lot. We celebrated everyday we were in Canada by saying "eh" a lot and eating Aero chocolate mint candy bars. Loved those things! 😁
Okay, OLM, here I go!!!
I can appreciate the jokes although, Callie, I've never gone backwards.
Patricia, what do you mean?
Y'all have probably seen the news stories about the terrible floods/storms in the Northeast, including New York.
Miss Ellen (my granddaughter), who lives in New York City, flew home from La Guardia today. Her flight left right on time, stopover in St. Louis, and actually landed early! We'll have "one on one" time on Thursday.
I've been following the OKC Professional Basketball team, which just won the NBA Championship a week ago; people are still celebrating!
I'm also reading e-books and magazines that I can borrow from the OKC library. Check-outs are for 2 weeks and the neat thing is they just disappear if you don't return them nor recheck them; so - no overdue books!!!
Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.
It was from the part of your earlier post about the confused student,
"One morning, we went into breakfast and sat down by a "frat guy" who looked sleepy. We wished him a Good Morning and he replied in a puzzled tone, "I think I put my boxer shorts on backwards." He pulled out his waistband and said, "Yep. Gotta do something about that" and left."
;)
Good morning
Starting at 58° but all too soon we will go past 80! Off to the city making a quick trip and home hopefully befire the heat gets unbearable.
Traffic was bumper to bumper last evening with folks headin back home, some will now stay up at their cottages now that school is out.
Thank you Jenny and Patricia for the Canada Day wishes
OLM, fireworks , family, friends and food is how Canada is celebrated. We used to go and see the fireworks but we are now content to just stay at home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Callie, Amy and all!
I like it! Your pending visit with Miss Ellen sounds wonderful! I had heard about the flooding. I'm glad she didn't have any travel problems. I don't follow sports, so I'm unfamiliar with how they celebrate. Are you still celebrating, and how?
I wasn't aware that libraries had e-check out programs now. Cool! Not only no over due books, but no trip to return them! I still miss browsing libraries and bookstores though.
Amy, just like the 4th.😊 nice.
I spent 2 hrs before sun up replacing a broken vent cover on my RV roof this morning. I climbed that vertical ladder a dozen times. I was exhausted! Just getting the rest of my day started now. Maybe more later... internets been feeble.
Good morning, everyone! Amy, I believe we're having the same weather patterns. Presently 72 at nine am and sunny to partly cloudy, high 84 and tonight's low, 59.
Unfortunately, the entire Interior is under a red flag warning with possible evening thundershowers with winds capable of producing outflow winds of 30 to 50 mph. With climate change, any temperatures over 70 seem to cause thundershowers, lightening and fires.
OLM, I'm not a fireworks' person either and since our northern summers are almost 24/7 daylight, the fireworks here are mainly in the winter on New Years when the town and University put on competing shows.
Afternoon Patricia!
It actually makes more sense to do them in winter, but thats probably because, like you, I live with wildfire season.
Its currently 84°F with a nice breeze.
I'm currently hand stitching a sleeveless cotton blouse. And doing laundry.😁
Good morning
Starting off at 63° and heading into the low 70's, works for me. Possibility of a storm this morning, we shall see. They said we would get a storm last night and that didn't happen.
The trip to the city went well , again left $$$ at Costco and then picked up snow fence to use as barriers across the wood piles. We were glad to get home away from the hustel and bustle and heat!
Not sure what today will bring...and not worried about it either. :)
Patricia, they have been calling for t-storms here and we have yet to get them and that is ok. We do need the rain though to help the gardens. With that you also get the grass growing too!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy and all😀
Its 54°F, clear skies and heading towards 77°F, allegedly. They forecasted a 20% chance of rain for my region last night, as well, but its a big region. We didn't get any here. We're now being tantalized with a possible, slight chance of rain for tomorrow.
Callie, looking forward to hearing about your fun visit with Miss Ellen.🙂
My day looks like more of the same: mowing, laundry, sewing. My body is complaining, loudly, about the ladder climbing and rusty hex head screw removal from yesterday. Parts are threatening to strike. :crazy2: Interesting to note: while I got swarmed with mosquitos while doing that chore I'm not aware of even one bite! Must be the mint.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.
OLM, have you visited the card discussion? https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/card-shoppe/ (https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/card-shoppe/)
There are some Paintshop graphics posted there and also Cards for the holidays, now for the 4th of July.
Also I think we would all loved to see photos from your surroundings, from the improvements you add to the house.
Photos are exclusively posted in the Photos Old and New discussion. The size permitted is 800 pixels on the longest size and around 100KB.
If you have problems resizing or posting, I am always glad to post for members :)
Good morning EVERYFRIEND💐
So much going on around here with the holiday tomorrow. We will be doing pretty much what we do every 4th of July by watch the local family parade in Castle Pines, where our son and grands live. Son and granddaughter, possibly the grandson too will run in a 5K first...then after the parade there is a community BBQ. Our oldest grandson is in Nantucket with one of his fraternity brothers, so he will be missed. In the afternoon we are invited to friends home to continue the celebration. We no longer go out to see fireworks but can see several high displays from our back deck without having to get out in the mess of traffic and people.
Next weekend our dil and 2 youngest grandson's will be in Colorado visiting her parents so we will continue some celebration with them. Unfortunately our son cannot get away this time of the year as his golf course is busy as can be with tournaments etc.
CALLIE, enjoy your time with Ms. Ellen. Hoping all of your family will be able to get together while she is there.
MARILYN, enjoy your family get together as well as all the rest of you here in the
Soda Shoppe🇺🇸🇨🇦
AMY, those Costco excursions always cost $$$$. We need to share more with our son as so much of the stuff proves to be way too much for us these days, not to mention the items I just have to have after I see them😻😻
I appreciated the kind words regarding my return after not posting for awhile. Thank you.
Off to fold clothes as the dryer is playing a tune for me. Enjoy your day.
Good morning, 72 and clear and back into the mid-eighties this afternoon, Amy, no rain scheduled until Monday, but while no T-storms, we've got regular afternoon purple clouds moving westward.
Meet and greets, morning routines, feeding everyone is finished, and I have coffee at hand. While I'm having lunch with Vivian and Ruthie, plus some afternoon shopping on schedule, I just realized what a madhouse those stores are going to be pre holiday.
Vivian did speak to Claire's son, and they did get her a dog, but things are still moving slowly.
Callie, my Kindle is so filled that I'm often unable to find enough time to simply sit and read. I have preorders already into 2027.
I hope Cathy is able to help Jane with her computer, I miss her posts and hearing about her walks with Cooper.
OLM, I hope you're taking today off with a good rest and a cup of tea. Those aches and pains often yell far too loudly, or so it seems to me.
Bubble, nice of you to let OLM knows about photos and graphics. I know I'd love to see some area photos. I often wonder if her mountains are like my forested area.
Jenny, how nice to see another long post from you again. It sounds like your fourth will be happily filled with family and friends.
Good afternoon :)
Ellen is staying with her parents in another suburb of OKC. Her sister/brother-in-law and her brother/fiancée/son also live in the same suburb.
She came to my house for"one-on-one" time and lunch today.
They'll be at their lake place for the weekend but I'm not going. Too many people in too little space for me.
Pouring rain now. I wont have to water my "pot garden" (all plants in pots ;D ) until tomorrow or Saturday.
Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day!
Good afternoon!
Thank you Bubble. I checked out the Card Shoppe. There are some very beautiful graphics! :D I have tried to upload a pic for my avatar a half dozen times from various locations on the property. Apparently I can't get enough signal strength to get it done. I figured if I can't even get that, I won't be able to upload a regular pic either. :-\ It will often take 15 minutes to register a like. Emails can take 2 days to go out. Its not uncommon for my posts to crash and I have had to retry 6 or so times. I've gotten to the place were I "select all" + "copy" before I post, so I don't lose everything. But thank you for offering. I'll keep trying. I'll try again with a reduced pixel image. If I have an app for that🤔
Patricia, I would love to share some. Something I keep trying to work on. I intended to take it easy today, honest! But it was a perfect day for mowing, then it was Dump & Fill day, and Rosie threw up all over the salon in the RV.😵💫 Happens with 14 year old dogs... Best laid plans of mice and little old ladies. I finally got a chance to sit down (in between doing the laundry from the eruption) after 1:00.
Callie, "... my pot garden." 😆🤣 I'm so glad she visited you. What was for lunch? Its nice that she could visit with so much family in that one location. /color]
Good late afternoon, 5:08 and 84 presently. I had a nice day out, paid some bills and only purchased a new green Alaskan hooded sweatshirt, besides my lunch of grilled Alaskan salmon.
So, My plan of spending less is working. However, the clear skies are gone and the smoke returned. And so has the occasional thunder from a distance.
I talked to various people here and conferred with Claire and Vivian who live on higher floors in their buildings, only to discover an anomaly. Here's an example and I want to first say, yes, I know heat rises.
Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the weather bureau said it was 82. However, everyone agreed that it was higher. Some said ninety-one and higher up than the seventh floor in the different buildings, registered between 100 and 104.
Could that be heat generated by the sun shining on the building? Whereas the Weather Bureau might be reading the temp. in an isolated area.
I don't know. I'm on the back side of the building, facing northwest. The other two in my building face east with direct sun. Vivian lives two floors up than these across town and faces south. Ruthie lives on the highest floor of her building, and faces north.
The ones facing north or south are closest to the higher elevations, foothills. While the rest of us are facing the forested and river crossed, plain.
The weather bureau reports from three local places for a composite.
I do know that there is quite a variation in the city, the further north you go, and not always warmer.
Does this help?
Good morning...
Happy 4th of July...
No storm or rain lst night.but cooler temps great for sleeping. Windows open nice breeze blowing and wake up to 49° this morning.
Finishing up the fences today and if it gets too hot inside work will get done.
Patricia, sounds like you had a great time out with friends and a delicious lunch!
Jenny good to see you here, we say we have a dollar store and a 500.00 dollar store.I picked up just what was needed and some things for my neighbou
Have a great 4thh safe travelling for those on the highways..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning and Happy Independence Day!
Its overcast, 54°F and we didn't get any rain either. Might yet today.
Patricia, I was going to look up some articles on thermal conductivity of mass for you but got distracted banging my head against the computer on the photo thing.😬 If you want me to run them down, let me know?
Have a lovely day everyone!
Good morning, 55 degrees at 5:42 and it's very smokey outside. Today's reported high will be 87. The two pigeons are back, canoodling on my balcony rail and entertaining Farrah.
Coffee's on, morning routine accomplished, and I'm in the midst of meet and greets. Today was an early morning for me, I woke at two am and finally got up at four when I knew I wasn't going to be able to sleep anymore. I'm hoping that I'll be tired tonight and will be able to sleep through all the competing microphones from the various ball games, street musicians, boat race and golf finals.
The parade route, if I want to watch, loops right around the closest corner of my building and as usual, the building is holding a giant potluck so if you wanted to, you could munch on hamburgers or chicken while watching the floats and marching bands.
The howitzers have been cancelled again this year due to fires. They are normally set at Alaskaland's Pioneer Park, by army soldiers to boom out, across the river, at the end of speeches and patriotic songs. Unfortunately, the last three years have had too many fires to chance it.
Amy, thank you, I did have a good gossip and a good time. This beginning of the month, lunch and shopping is becoming a regular friends' happening.
OLM, thanks, that does sound interesting. All the buildings are stucco, concrete or something similar. Not a lot of glass due to the harsh winters. They mainly only have a couple windows plus sliders. This one has a lot of surface area as it takes up the entire block.
Good Morning! DONT know if you'll get this but alls well here except my computer. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!
I read everything and I wish I could join all of you. I'm going to daughter Cathy's for lunch today. Iwishyou all good things until I get organized again. I miss you all!!
HAPPY HOT DOG AND FIRE CRACKER DAY TOO ALL!
:wave2:
Checking back in after another round of mowing,
Phyllis, thank you, 🙂 I don't eat hot dogs, but I'm a firecracker enough to make up for it! 🤪
Patricia, you're welcome. Though I'm unsure if you want me to dig up a paper or you, being a great researcher yourself, are on it?
Jane, glad to hear from you that all is well. Impressed by your versatility in keeping in touch while your computer is acting up.😀
HAPPY 4th of July EVERYFRIEND 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
So happy you were able to have one on one time with Ms Ellen, CALLIE💕
AMY, I hope you can get the fence done and it won't be too 🥵 out while you are working ‼️
PATRICIA, I hope you can at least get a glimpse of the parade to enjoy some festivities of the day
Heading off to our BBQ 🇺🇸
Enjoy a safe day‼️
Patricia, I was going to look up some articles on thermal conductivity of mass for you but got distracted banging my head against the computer on the photo thing.😬 If you want me to run them down, let me know?
If you wanted to, or at least point me in the right direction.
Here you go Patricia,🙂
https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-76557-5_17,
I hope this works for you, or points you in the right direction.
On another note: My husband informed me that 2 of my Gkids went blueberry picking with their mama this week. The Gkids hatched up a scheme to pick blueberries and sell them to Poppa. Ari, 7, quit after she'd only picked 3 quart sized bags. Toby, 9, born with entrepreneurial OS pre-installed, picked 7 quart sized bags. Mommy felt each child should be paid the same amount. Poppa said, "Oh no! Toby put in more effort and should be rewarded for it." Ari typically doesn't make much effort. He's hoping to motivate her for future endeavors. They settled on the price of $4.00/quart bag. He was on his way to get $1.00 bills to pay them with. Expect torrential rain with whoops and hollering!🤣😆🤣
HAPPY INDEPENCE DAY!
OLM, Ellen and I did some errands and thenbrought home lunch from Chicken Salad Chick, a casual restaurant that isn't in NYC. We have lunch from it every time she's home (about twice a year). https://www.chickensaladchick.com/menu/247408 (I know the website says "Midland, Texas" but I can't get it to show OKC without placing an order; it's the same menu)
Her family all live about a 40-minute drive from me and my younger son/wife/2 Labs live across town from me. We're all very close. My daughters-in-law are actually from the same town and the older one introduced the younger one to my son.
I only have the three grandchildren and I've been a part of their lives since they were born. When they were all in school, I would go out in the summer and pick one up, bring her/him back to my house and find something special to do just with her/him. Then I would take her/him back and pick up another one and repeat the third one the next day.
Callie,
:smitten: That is so wonderful! When I'm back on the farm we do something similar during Christmas break. I also do winter sick care. My eldest grandson is the one I've been blessed to spend the most time with. When he was a newborn and my daughter went back to work I'd do daycare, even when I had to evacuate in my RV. Back then they didn't use as much chemical in the winter and I didn't have to go very far. I could stay in local RV parks. One of the things he's always loved is my homemade eggnog. Still does. My middle Gkid likes it, my youngest, nah. 😆 And thats o.k. When they come they get to pick the menu and we make it together.
Sounds like you're a pretty special grandma.😊[/
Barb is having medical lung issues presently. Plus, so much rain, there are some trees that may need to be cut down. She'll return when she is feeling better.
Patricia, you probably already mentioned to her that we're all thinking of her, but please tell her I'll be praying for her, also.🙂
From another missing one, Tomereader, "Hi, Patricia. Hope everyone had a safe and pleasant 4th of July. If you would, in the places I normally post, let everyone know that I am still "kicking" but it's just my computer that is on it's very last leg! I'm going to try and get a new one before the month is out. I try not to sign in to anything, as it freezes up if I've been on longer than 10 minutes max. This entails Alt/Ctrl/Dele and then it rarely does, and I have to "force shutdown". Yes, it's frustrating as heck, and I try not to do anything but pay my bills quickly, and get out. As for shopping, I bet Amazon misses the heck out of me.
Good morning..
Another hot one today...with the promise of rain tomorrow.
Day of rest here.We did work outside for a bit yesterday but did manage to squeeze in a nap. :)
Callie, I looked at the menu and loved the menu, great choices to enjoy!
Patricia, hope Barb feels better soon and Tomreadere gets her computer problems fixed. Jane has problems with hers and mine I hope the problem is fixed with a new modem. Love your avatar!
Better get the day started
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning,
Its 45°F, sunny. Heading for 80°F or so. It was too soggy for outside work yesterday; I finished my sleeveless shirt and pushed laundry. The dog towels are done. Started on the throw rugs. It turned out to be a beautiful day. The soil was so dry it sucked all the moisture up by noon. I took the dogs around the big meadow for afternoon patrol. I could see a huge plume of white smoke North west of us. It was on the west face of the Blues. I checked my wildfire page when we got back. Everything was listed as controlled, contained or out. They were all "human caused" in my area. After an hour the plume was dissipating, with no additional smoke. Ron didn't arrive until 10:00 p.m., so no progress on the tiny house yesterday. He's only here for today, then he runs off to go yurt camping with our daughter and her family.
Good late morning at 9:59 and with very smoky skies and only 62 but going up to 82 or more.
All next week, starting tonight, will be cloudy and mostly wet. Hopefully this will help with the fires and smoke. We live in the middle of a boreal forest that covers most of the state and the majority of our fires are caused by lightening, sometimes heat lightening.
I had a wonderful breakfast out with good conversation and a bacon-egg combo. And I have a haircut planned for today. Other than that, meet and greets, morning routine, feeding Farrah and making coffee, the usual morning things.
Good afternoon,
Ron left around 3:30. The dogs and I went shopping (online) during our patrol. Some staples, some hardware, some more grout colorant. The 1st one was too bright, not yellow -brown enough like 1970s avocado green appliances. Ron did get the loft pull down ladder cut to the right length and several collar ties installed. I got up early this morning and mowed a fire break on the west end of camp. Thats about it for today. Hope you all had a good one.
Good morning..
Rain overnight and it may continue into today. Can almost hear the grass sighing with relief...means it is going to grow again and me sighing because I am going to have to cut it again.
Work around home today doing all the (not) fun jobs.We have leftovers for supper and salads for lunch so meals are taken care of.
Patricia, not only good food but fantastic company too!
OLM. always something to do. I do have a friend that says she gets bored!! Just can't imagine being bored with so many things to do or see.
Rick , hope cooler weather has visited you.
I wish I moved as fast as time flies!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on July 07, 2025, 06:57:01 AMRick , hope cooler weather has visited you.
Next Saturday is predicted to be our coolest day, at a 79° day. But it appears that along with the heat we will have rain most of the time - the remains of a storm that hit Florida.
Good late morning at 60 degrees and still smokey skies after a drenching rain overnight. Evidently, five fires, lightening caused, made it through the rain and cooling temperatures.
While we're no longer under a red flag warning, and have rain scheduled for at least through the sixteenth, we still have three of the five, under ready, set, go, possible evacuation orders. Right now, the suburbs are at the ready phase. This year, in the Interior, more than 520,000 acres have burned, with more than 180,000 acres consumed in the last seven days.
Meet and greets, morning routines, finished, Farrah's fed and coffee's almost done. I have two Amazon orders today, one of my own and one a neighbor's. I should vacuum the living room rug, but that may wait until tomorrow.
Good waning morning,
Amy, 😆 " Can almost hear the grass sighing with relief...means it is going to grow again and me sighing because I am going to have to cut it again." Cute! I've found if you have work you can't be "bored." Since there's always work, I'm not sure what to call it when you claim boredom while there's work to do?
I'm glad to hear you have cooler weather Rick, and fewer fires Patricia!
I'm taking a recovery day: resting. Not mowing or woodcutting. Still watering, pushing laundry and doing other less physical chores. Its already 78°F. The high is expected to be 90°F.
Have a great day everyone!
OLM, it may be two fewer fires...however, after suffering through inside, sticky humidity, I opened the slider to find the outside smelled like a close campfire, even during drenching rain, with white, smoky skies. I soon re-closed the slider after my eyes were effected.
Patricia, Yuck! I didn't mean to imply all was better. We have a regional large fire watch site that I monitor every year. I rejoice with every fire they put out and breathe a sigh of relief when they are all out. Counting the blessing of 2 less fires.
Good morning...
Has been an interesting past few days..don't wish to repeat and now in the past!
Up and running with a new modem and so dar it seems to working fine.
Will throw a load of laundry on after we get back from town, not much is needed at the grocery store but will get in and out early.
Crows have brought their babies to enjoy what is being thrown out. Great window entertianment for me as one tried to have a bath in a pan of water that was set out for them.
Rick, we are headed back into fry weather. Really enjoyed the "cooler" weather while it was here for a few days. At times there was a nice breeze blowing. Thank goodness for A/C!
Better put an egg in my boot and beat it..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on July 10, 2025, 06:42:39 AMRick, we are headed back into fry weather.
I think the relief from the heat was only down to the 80's. But with the rain that has been about it has been muggy, and uncomfortable.___Still A/C weather. As I recall, 96 on Tuesday, and somewhere over 90 yesterday. It's only another 3 1/2 or 4 months till we'll be complaining about the cold :2funny: :idiot2:
Good morning everyone,
Its partly cloudy and 62°F. Our high is forecasted at 76°F. No breeze currently, supposedly a breeze later 5-6m.p.h.. Yesterday we had a high of 80° and steady winds starting at 22 and rising to 32 m.p.h. I was hoping it would shake loose that widow maker, that snapped off the day before, out of the tops above Kato's tie-out zone. It didn't. I haven't had a chance to talk to Ron about it yet. I'll be continuing cutting up the trees the Gkids pushed over and picking up slash piles.
Have a great day!
Does anyone remember Marty From Miami from SeniorNet? I have a copy of a series of his posts called "Marty's Radio Days". I just read it again, and if anyone remembers him and wants a copy, let me know.
Good morning..
Going to be another uncomfortable day outside.A/C is our best friend in this heat! Work inside today and gather up "stuff" to take to Habitat for Humanity.
Patricia, any cool weather you can share?
Rick, yes we did complain and want warmer weather I said warmer......not hot! Guess we should be thankful for what we do get and not what others have had to deal with.
Phyllis, salads work for meals and your baked custard for dessert.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy and all,Yesterday was perfect, 76°F breezy, partly cloudy. Today is expected to be + 6°. The widow maker did not come down. Ron suggested throwing a rope around it and pulling it out. I could do that, if I could throw a rope worth beans. ;D He thought he may come today. Most likely later. Its cool enough now I'm going out to do filthy, grubby things like cleaning the forest and cutting up more blow downs, or pushed overs. Have a great day everybody! Love yourself and love others. 🥰

I can't believe you still have that and yes, it's something I'd love to have!
Quote from: patricia19 on July 11, 2025, 12:27:19 PMI can't believe you still have that and yes, it's something I'd love to have!
Would you send me your email addy - PM or my email. I'll send it as an attachment.
Good morning, meet and greets, morning routine, feeding Farrah and making coffee was all done to the sound of drills. Yesterday, they finished my apartment but today, no water usage until five PM, as they're working across the hall and on the apartment below me. After that, they'll be too far from my pipes to affect any of my water usage.
Last night, I set the coffee pot for today, made up a few ready to heat meals and besides my water bottles and Britta, I tried to anticipate and clean anything I could, so there would be less for today. It's surprising how we're used to always having water at hand. Farrah spent yesterday confined to the bedroom, but just in case, she remained between the bed and the wall until the men left. While she tolerates women with a wary eye, she still remembers that it was a man who abused her. Today, she's on her perch, watching the pigeons canoodling on my balcony.
I repotted my new cactus group last night in the special cacti soil, I bought on Tuesday, and this morning they're already spread out and look a few inches taller. They'd been sold in one of those six inch pots, and I transferred them all to an 11-inch pot.
After the construction crew leaves for today, I'll do the same to the heart shaped philodendron I bought with the cactus, in my regular soil. I have a large plant, a couple of feet tall, that looks like a heart shaped philodendron, on speed. No one seems to know what it is, and I can't find it in my plant books or online.
Amy, we left that steady rain behind for a few days and heading back up until the 21st, when we'll have another week of rain. The skies are blue and cleared of smoke, so the rain must have helped with the fires surrounding us, or sent the smoke in another direction. I looked at the Forestry information page just now, not much has changed, evidently, there are six still burning within twenty miles, and we are still at a Preparedness Level 5.
I know we live in a huge boreal or taiga forest that covers over 175,000 miles, so fires aren't exactly unknown during summer, but climate change and heat lightening have made it worse.
Amy, have you talked to Jane to see how she's doing, or any progress on a new computer?
OLM, when I read your post, it brings me back to my childhood days at our cabin up the Salcha river. Our cabin was built on stilts on a treed foothill as the rivers flows through and around several of them. The Interior is a plain surrounded by forested foothills and three mountain ranges. The only mountain taller than those ranges is Everest, and only because it sits at a higher elevation.
While looking that up, Everest isn't even the tallest. That honor belongs to Ecuador's Chimborazo.
"Basically, since Earth isn't flat, it bulges outward at the equator and flattens near the poles.
This means that mountains near the equator are technically higher than those in other areas, and it just so happens that Chimborazo is almost smack-dab on our planet's waistline, while Everest is 28 degrees north."
I just love your informative posts Patricia! I'm impressed with your green thumb! Mines "black" if its in a pot. I over or under water. :-\ I did great with my garden and landscaping back in the day. I have a Snake plant I've kept alive for 7 years, but I've lost everything else. I have to admire its tenacity.
Glad you're almost through with the upheaval!
Good morning..
Starting out at 57° and heading to oh my gosh! Will get most of what needs doing and then head to the basement to sew. Will put the laundry out on the solar dryer and it won't be long till it will be dry.
Tomato plants are loaded with flowers and hope to see fresh tomatoes on the table soon. Thinking toasted bacon and tomato sandwiches!
Patricia, I was talking with Jane the other day but will call her later today. Sounds like her computer just needed some tweaking.
Better get the day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone,
It started out at 52°F and is heading for 90°. I've had my coffee, picked up two loads of sticks and transported them to the slash pile. I just had breakfast. There was a fire 8 miles NE of me yesterday. It's contained this morning at just .25 ac. Our teams are good! Heading out to take the dogs on Poo Patrol. Ron arrived in the night and isn't up yet.
Have a great day!

I enjoyed re-reading these. Thanks. I wonder if he also posted in the WREX discussion, do you know? We had some great writers there... Pity that it is all gone and forgotten.
Patricia, I talked with Jane. She did try to post yesterday, wrote a long post and yup....the gremlins got it! She misses everyone and hopes to be back soon.

Just a thought, and maybe it doesn't matter, but if you talk to her, or email her, tell her to be sure she is LOGGED IN>
Rick, thank you, I will tell her that..
What I have done as a safeguard, as it has only happened to me in Seniors and Friends, is to open two pages.
For example, if I am posting in Soda Shop, the one on the left is the working post and the one on the right is a copy. Thus, if I lose a post, normally, the left page post; I still have the information on the right.
Good morning
Another warm one to deal with today. A day of rest here, will try and get some sewing done
Talked with Jane plus sent your suggestion to her Rick and will send yours too Patricia.Thank you both.
Jesse wants to play Frisbee and I don't..not in this heat..I will throw it a couple of times and that is it. Even crow does't like this heat,Charlie came for snacks yesterday and had his beak open as if he was trying to pant or cool off. Had to google that and this is what I found.
Birds sit with their mouth open simply to cool down.
Unlike humans, birds cannot sweat, so like dogs, they'll pant with their mouths open to promote heat loss. The technical term for this is 'gular fluttering' - which is the avian version of panting.Dec 18, 2023.
OK time to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay cool.
good morning everyone,
Amy, please tell Jane that I commiserate with her. It happens to me a lot with my internet dropping. I tap an open space and "select all" then "copy" periodically while composing my posts, now. If it seems like getting back to the page is going to be awhile I paste it to a note page.
Yesterday Ron completed installing the collar ties. After lunch and a rest he tackled the widow maker. Standing under it his first comment was, "That's a long ways up there." Yep. I told him I'd thought about his suggestion to "throw a rope over it," only I was thinking baling twine attached to something heavy. Then I said I decided to wait for him because I could just see me busting out the back window of the RV with a poor throw. He looked at me, then the rear window of the RV, grunted and went off to get a rope. They know how I throw. It wasn't as easy as he expected. It took him (a very good thrower) more than 2 dozen tries to get the weight over the snag. He eventually decided the rope was too heavy; it made too much drag. He cut a long baling twine leader and attached it between the weight and the rope. That was much better and with just a few more tosses he was able to get it over. It took another 10-15 minutes to caustiously pull it down. Yay! I'll be cleaning it up today, and probably tomorrow as well. After all that effort Ron went in for a nap, then a meal. We ran the electrical wire for the great room fan light.
Its 62°F already, heading to 88°. Sunny. Calm with a 6 m.p.h. Breeze this afternoon.
Good morning, we're back to smoky skies, 61 presently and heading back into the 80s this afternoon. Morning routines, meet and greets and feeding everyone went well.
Claire is in the hospital for anxiety and depression. They were hoping the therapy dog would help, but she evidently wasn't interested, and her son is deciding if it's worth another try or to return the dog to help another. I don't have a good feeling about this.
Per fire news, "Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 13, 2025 🔥
Alaska remains at a Preparedness Level (PL) 4. Initial attack was light on Saturday. There are more than 1,900 personnel assigned to 17 staffed fires across the state. Over 750,000 acres have burned in Alaska this year – with more than 300,000 of those acres burned in the last week. High temperatures are expected to peak on Sunday before turning cooler.
Until weather conditions become cooler and wetter, fuels will be available and ready to burn and increased fire activity is expected to continue today. With increased fire activity, additional smoke production will decrease air quality."
My Amazon orders came in on the 9th, 11th, and 12th as they had different suppliers for my one order. I had my preferred Chosen Foods brand of 100% pure avocado oil and my Pompeian organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Both brands I'm not always able to get here and my two new 16 ounce dispenser oil sprayers, with labels. I may get two more of those for other oils.
My last order came yesterday, and a very anticipated full spectrum plant light with adjustable heights, three setting timers and six brightness levels. No more running the ceiling light and high intensity desk lamp for twelve daily hours.
My plants definitely noticed the difference and my three new cacti, that came crammed into a six-inch pot, have visibly grown overnight, an inch or two in their own larger pots.
Since Farrah would love some fresh greens in her diet, my three shelves of plants are barricaded six feet up on three shelves. She'll have to make do with both her dry and canned food and treats. As a senior, her jumping capacity has also diminished. When you count her age in cat years, she's only ten years younger than I am.
I'm not even close to my friend Vivian, who has an entire room made into a plant nursery, with grow lights on a schedule and windows all across one wall. Her dachshund, Wally, like Farrah, doesn't approve of being barred from the plant nursery.
Why not have a pot of catnip just for Farrah?
Good morning..
Oh boy another fry day, one can't help but feel sorry for those without a/c.
Returning an item to the hardware store this morning then home to dive into a cupboard and toss outdated items.
Managed to get a little sewing done before phone calls and away went the urge. :(
Will give Janie a call later on and say hello from you.Let her know we are thinking of her.
OLM, happy to read the WM is down. We lost friend due to one of those .
Patricia, my friend used to go to the feedstore and buy untreated oats and plant them for Peter and Penny. The cats would nibble on them once he let the oats grow to an inch and when they grew 4 inches or so the cats would rub their face through them.
Rick, hope your staying cool.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on July 14, 2025, 07:42:12 AMRick, hope your staying cool.
The Power Co. is getting their profit out of me at this point. But it's nice (and somewhat necessary) to be cooler and LESS HUMIDITY.
Keep cool everyone, and remember this next winter.
Good morning! How is everybody? Its 60°F, and sunny. Heading for 2° cooler than yesterday, but strong winds. It didn't cool down until after midnight last night. Consequently, I'm a little groggy yet. Having coffee. That sounds wonderful Patricia.🙂 I have one of those programable, full spectrum grow lights. I use it for greening up my broccoli sprouts. 😁 Have you seen those cat grass/greens kits? They're a specific varieties safe for cats to munch on. Maybe Farrah and Wally would like them? I glimpsed them on Amazon once or twice while looking for something else.Ron helped me clean up the tree top. He hauled it to the slash pile with the Kubota. Then he helped with the littered branches. I moved Kato back. He was happy to get his spot back but he also wanted the other🙄. Then we went in to work on more light boxes and wiring. The loft light has a 2-way switch and while Ron worked on drilling holes for the hall light and the loft light I took my ipad to a better reception spot and downloaded a diagram for wiring in 2 - way lights. He couldn't remember a couple of details. We discussed the remaining light locations. Then he moved to trimming the truss plackets for the interior wall application. Since the packets are engineered wood, I had to vacate. Ron also had to vacuum up all the sawdust when he finished... ALL, meaning, the whole interior, every vertical, inclined and horizontal surface. They (engineered wood products) outgas the insecticide and glue chemicals for 10+ years. Its in the dust, too. And it was hot in there! I helped him wash off between and after the two chores. He did it with out one complaint! I would have complained a lot! 😫 High on my list today is re-sealing the freshly cut edges. I also need to start the process of renewing my driver's license. I'm hoping they made changes during covid for remote renewal. It was quite the process last time. Have a great day!
Good morning, last night we had a rip-roaring rain with rolling thunder and some lightening, but the forestry service said the fires weren't too affected. It seems to have washed the smoke out but other than that, no real effect on the fires yet.
Yesterday, they did drop the evacuation alert from a level five to a four.
Morning routines finished, coffee's on and Farrah's fed while in the midst of meet and greets.
Good morning Rick and a good morning to Phyllis, who ever else might pop in or browse thorough.
Bubble, Farrah's among the few cats who're not affected by catnip. She has never been into toys either. She'd rather go directly to the meal portion of a plant, that and cheese, both dangerous to cats.
Amy, does Jane have any idea of when she may be back online?
I've never thought about giving Farrah her own plant. I've tried cat grass occasionally which she has liked, but it doesn't seem to be around lately, it's been a while since she's had some.
OLM, I might try looking on Amazon for some cat grasses.
You and Ron were definitely busy yesterday. I generally clean in equal bursts with a period of rest. Since preparing for this year's inspection, I've been trying more clean as you go rather than designating certain areas via set schedules.
Good afternoon!
I did get the fresh cuts sealed. Ron pointed out that I forgot to finish screwing the loft decking down when he was here. He was right. I forgot all about it. So I did that too. I swept again. The saw dust will be settling out of all sorts of places for awhile. I made the initial DMV contact for accommodation and placed a couple of orders. The DMV will get back to me. I received one with dry goods from Vitacost. It was Dump and Fill day, with lots of campground watering. The strong winds are making it more bearable. The temp was higher than forecasted. They said 86°F, but that was what we had in the shade. It was at least 90°F in the full sun. We had about 8 elk come right down to the edge of camp this afternoon.
Glad you had rain Patricia! Greetings to Rick, Phyllis, Bubble, Jane and anyone else who checks in!
I hope everyone has a peaceful night.
Well...poof went the morning!! Figured I had better get the outsidework done before it gets too hot. Then in to make pastry and do laundry now to have a cuppa tea and then see what I can get into. Time was spent watching the crows, their numbers up to 8 now with their babies. Then I found a whole new dog hiding in Jesse's coat, hair is now on the lawn for the birds to pick at.
Patricia, no she didn't say...but she does miss everyone. Cooper is keeping her company. :smitten:
Rick, tis the humidty that knocks one off their feet. I will do outside work for a while then take a break and head back out again. Funny thing is the lawn/grass has gone dormant but the weeds are green and growing!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good afternoon everyone,
Its a lovely cool day, 76°F with a nice breeze. The weather report said "hazy," due to the fire we had west of us yesterday (700 ac.). But its clear.
I started out calking the joint between the sill plate and the floor in the tiny house. Carpenter ants keep showing up and I'm trying to eliminate any entry points. I did some of the gaps between the tongue and groove decking sheets. I need to let all that dry, then shift supplies to do the remaining edges between the decking. Its not that the gaps are big, its just amazing how small a crack an ant can squeeze through. 😠 Then I began laundry, watering and limbed that snag that Ron took to the slash pile. It had so many huge branches that he couldn't get it on the pile until it was cleaned up. Still doing laundry. I ran out of room on the line.
Amy, re: pastry, :smitten: . I used to love pastry. What a lovely skill to have. What kind are you making?
Jackie, I bookmarked https://englandspuzzle.com/ to take a look at several other blogs. First one up will be the Brecon Beacons. My Mom is from Merthyr Tydfil, just below the Beacons. At the time I was only aware of the Beacons as a national park, but knew nothing else of it. When I became more aware of its history much later, I have always felt I missed something. I never knew Windsor Soup was such a puzzle. It is just a soup I have always been aware of, but never had. Thanks a lot.
Good morning everyone. I've just finished catching up everyone's posts from yesterday and the day before. Nothing much to report except that the weather forecast does not include any rain for three or four days.
Good morning..
Chores done and now to make dog food. I was going to bake but maybe tomorrow will be a tad cooler??? Today is the hottest but that is to break tonight. One can only hope!
OLM, I usually make butter tarts and better make a pie for hubby. I think I can get 3 doz tarts and a pie shell out of it for a lemon pie.
MG how is Oscar doing?
Better get busy..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Just talked with Jane and she said to say hello to everyone and she will be back on line as soon as she can. Her daughter is visiting her at the moment. Bet there is lots of girl talk... :smitten:
Getting concerned about Oscar again, Amy. He as been pulling hair out, some days worse than others. He is starting to get finicky about his wet food again. Today he refused both wet foods I gave him, but he is eating a lot of the dry food that he pretty much ignored at least two years. The dry food is a special urinary diet for Shan in particular, but I get the weight management blend because he is a pig. I don't think that helps Oscar any. I am beginning to wonder if the prednisone is loosing effect. The other think is the weather. I've noticed over the years that Oscar seems to be more affected by the humidity (and possibly the barometric pressure changes) just like me. Well, now here he is wanting something. Wanna bet it is some of the food I put back in the fridge? Well, I guess I will go see. I might just have to give him the last bit of fresh cooked chicken. Bet that is exactly what he wants.
Good morning, it's 54 and cool, and partly cloudy out there. We've been having partly cloudy days and overnight rains. Our highs will stay in the seventies for now.
Meet and greets are finished, coffee's perking and Farrah's been finicky again and refused most of her breakfast. She always has dry, but knows if she doesn't finish her tablespoon of wet, no treats. There's nothing wrong, other than being finicky, she goes through phases over meat as a favorite and then fish.
She's also not fond of human foods, cat pouch treats or those cat sticks. She was on a salmon preference for a while, but that's going out of favor. One five ounce can of cat food can last five to eight days and I often switch them up or attempt to mix them together, if a tiny amount of one is left.
The construction crew is outside my apartment fixing plaster back over the exposed drains. The other crew has begun work on the next vertical section, so I'll remember this summer as one of reverberations and drills.
After they're finished, the painters will be in to paint all the hallways, of this five story, block long building.
I can only hope it will go better than 2022's replacement of all windows and balconies. That crew didn't put any place for water to escape on the new balconies, so it sits there from rains and or snow, until it evaporates and leaves behind the grime collection.
I'm grouchy and headachy this morning, not seeing the bright anywhere. Claire's son returned the dog, and she's not going to be able to return to her room in the nursing home but will go into one on the medical side.
Good morning all,
I had business to attend to first thing that required a 3 bar connection so I had to go up to my best spot. My DMV accommodations are coming along nicely. When I returned to camp I finished caulking the cracks between subfloor decking sheets. As usual, I ran water for Kato, laundry, grass and heat reduction. It is currently 68°F. We started with a low of 52°. Our expected high is 82°F, with 5 mph winds in the afternoon.
Amy, I'm going to have to look up "butter tarts." I don't know what those are. I love butter cookies though, so they sound tasty.
Sorry to hear your kitties are having food problems MG and Patricia. 🙁 With all the construction right outside your door, Patricia, I'd have a headache too! I hope you and both yours and MG's kitties feel better soon.
That's almost all I have to report today, just a little poodle clipping outside left to do. Take care everybody, hope to see Jane back on soon, and would love an update from Phyllis. Bye for now.👋🏼
OLM, MG's Oscar, has medical issues. The only thing he shares with Farrah, is a possible barometric pressure change issue. I hope things work out for MG and Oscar, and that he gets better.
Farrah's not sick. She's always been finicky, and now as a senior, she's 68 in human years, she's gotten more so, even dare I say crotchety. She likes her treats, places she considers hers, and expects treats for existing.
Furthermore, she had a rough start in life, and when I got her as a permanent foster, she spent literally months under the bed and everyone called her my ghost kitty. It's only been the last few years that she's settled and expecting to be indulged.
Good morning..
Couldn't get in earlier but the site seems to be working fine now. We are getting a beautiful soft rain at the moment. I was to water the front garden but that is now being taken care of.
MG , I hope you find something that Oscar will eat.I remember all the things I would try with Babe from t-Bone steak to hand feeding her mashed sardines. Not an easy job for you.
Patricia, Farrah is a lucky girl that she has you to look after her!
Better get busy.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning,
Its supposed to be a tad warmer, but with a bit stronger breezes. Then it looks like we'll have a week of upper 70°s. Today I'll start back on wood cutting chores while it's still cool.
My daughter called yesterday and we had a lovely chat. She'll call again soon, probably while she's out running as its quieter. Three kids make phone conversations difficult at home.
Have a great day!
Good morning all.
Good morning..
Beautiful day out, temp is 44° at the moment and I hope the fry days are in the past! We had a good down pour yesterday bring the water tote up a good six inches! Now the grass will grow...
Made blueberry muffins yesterday and today I will do some more baking.
Rick, is it cooler there? I turned off the a/c and opened up windows last night.
OLM, we liked in the lower 70's when we were working.
Patricia, I see you're hanging in. Cute photo. :2funny:
Callie and Phyllis ,everything ok ?
Better get this day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy, and all!Its 55°F, clear though a little hazy. Tne PNW fire map jumped from 3 to 18 this last week. I didn't check the accumulative acreage burned, buildings or homes destroyed, and even people who've lost their lives. I just gofire by fire and pray for those impacted. 😭
Ron arrived in the night. He said something about starting to put up insulation. He'll be here 1 day. He went yesterday to buy me a screendoor at our local Home Depot. They didn't have it in stock. I ended up ordering it. It will be here in about 2 weeks.
Amy, lower 70°s is perfect.🙂
Have a lovely day everyone. Missing hearing from so many of you. Hope you can let us know how you're doing soon.
Quote from: Amy on July 18, 2025, 07:23:19 AMRick, is it cooler there? I turned off the a/c and opened up windows last night.
AHaaaaaa - Some relief at last. In the lower 70's last night, and we're to get a two day break (according to the "reliable" weather man.) The house with it's plaster walls is still hot so the A/C doesn't get a break. At this stage of my game I have no pressing obligations, so I'll just step outside a time or two and enjoy what I can. Have a good one everybody.
Amy - Hope that "big rain" you had will help with those fires. Hate to hear about fires wiping out places - very sad.
Thanks OLM for thinking about me. I am OK but I am a little cross that life is giving me problems lately. I do not do well in this weather! Heat is up in high 90s and either the sun is baking us or severe storms are drenching us. I promised myself I would not complain about the weather but keep breaking my promise. >:(
Broke a tooth so had to yell help to the dentist. He gave me choice of going to dental surgeon and having what was left cut out or he could drill off jagged edge and I could adapt. I told him that surgery would probably kill me or bankrupt me so I am trying to adapt to loss of my tooth. Just paint me green and call me the "wicked witch of the west". >:(
Other than that I am doing fine. Thanks for thinking of me. Missing Jane, too. Hope she'll be back soon. Take care while you and Rob are building your tiny house up in the beautiful woods and allow me to be envious of you living in such a beautiful place.
Good Morning. Did I read my name mentioned? ;D
July has been full of family, various repairpersons and crazy weather - and I really don't have anything to say about baking, yard work or construction - which most posts have been about.
Sorry :-\
Good morning, 65 presently, blue skies, and we're heading back up to 78 today. We still have our fires, but the various overnight rains have helped. We're down to only five fires, down from the previous seven, and those range from 3 percent to 55 percent contained.
Meet and greets, are done, Claire has been released from the medical wing and is back in a new special care unit in the Scottsdale nursing facility. The care dog has been returned to help someone else in need.
Morning routine was late but is now concluded, and the plumbing company guys are starting the vertical shift two doors away from me and the other set of guys are patching the walls outside my door preparatory to them or our maintenance repainting. This drain dismantles and replacement stated in April and are expected to end in late August or possibly September.
My new plants are doing very well. The new grow lights are having a noticeable effect, especially with the philodendrons and cacti. The cacti soil mix has some riders as every day I find a couple of feathery purple mini plants I'm assuming are mushrooms. They show up an inch or so the past two days and by mid-afternoon are full on drooping, so I've been plucking them.
I haven't really gone anywhere this week or had any packages, nor done any serious deep cleans or decluttering. I'm trying to clean as I go instead of setting aside a day to do this or that because I've been terrible at keeping a set schedule. I grew up with a family who practiced serious spring and fall deep cleaning inside or out in our acre garden. And none of us three kids have kept that tradition. One is a procrastinator, one always paid others, and I work best under a deadline.
Hi Callie and Phyllis! No one needs to follow a discussion, I never seem to, as everyone is always busier than me. I'm totally in awe of what so many are able to fit into 24 hours, but that isn't me. I just enjoy seeing what everyone else is up to. I had never had any issues with my teeth, until after fifty.
Rick, air conditioning isn't a priority in the arctic, so when we're having late eighties or early nineties, or more, we just plow through and stay lubricated.
Amy, good morning and here's another for you.
Good grumpy morning everyone.
The weather service with all its expertise promised four days of mostly dry weather and mostly sun. It lied. Once again this morning I woke up to a very wet parking lot and solid cloudy skies.
Phyllis, the humid, rainy weather (and I suspect barometric pressure) plays havoc with my back. It is making things more difficult to finish rearranging and pitching stuff after getting my new bedroom furniture. Oscar doesn't do very well, either, in this kind of weather.
Yesterday, I spend a good bit of the day either reading or watching TV. Today, I am looking forward to both my grocery order and my monthly Amazon shipment arriving, and I will be trying to find a few more things to throw out.
Also yesterday late afternoon, the black cat (on close-up he looks a very dark chocolate with black or even darker chocolate striping) showed up at the patio window again. This time he was hissing loud enough for me to hear him and throwing himself at the window. I was able to get a good look at his ears, but could not find any notches. Fortunately, he didn't stay long. Something caught his attention farther up the building. I still suspect he belongs to one of my neighbors because when I see him coming and going to the wood patch below, he is going to or coming from the apartment complex. I haven't decided whether or not to talk to the apartment manager.
Good morning..
Starting off at 52° and a/c is off!!Nice to have the windows open but I am thinking it won't last long, just a nice break from frying weather.
Laundry to do and weed pulling..all those fun jobs :)Need to package up the tarts to go to friends but that can wait till later.
Rick, thankfully the fires are not near us but my friend in Manitoba sure has smokey days! Stay cool.
Patricia, I ran into one of "those" people yesterday on a phone call. She was trying to sell something and after 4-5 no thank yous I hung up the phone. Can't fix stupid with duct tape either!
Best get this day on the road..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning all!
So good to hear from you.
Rick, I always feel better when I can get out and get fresh air. Glad you are getting that now.
Phyllis, good to see you! The heat wipes me out too. I completely understand. I can't be "cheerful" when I can't breathe and feel like I'm going to simultaneously pass out and throw up. I don't know if thats how it effects you, but it won't be complaining as far as I'm concerned, its commiserating. 😁 I can relate to the tooth thing too. The weed killer Roundup causes teeth and bones to dissolve, become brittle, etc. I've been assaulted with it a few times and have had terrible decay suddenly show up, as well as had a tooth "fall apart." My non-toxic dentist retired during covid. I haven't been able to find a safe one since. I have to live with it. Its definitely enough to try ones patience and grieve one's heart!
If my sharing about my house building adventures brings you pleasure, that gives me joy.🥰 Yesterday we finished running the electrical wiring for lights in all the exterior walls. It was just the runs from the switch boxes to the light boxes. We have one short one left on an interior wall. Our focus is trying to get the exterior walls ready for insulating. It gets unbeabably hot in there with this heat. About noon we had one wire left to do in an exterior wall: the coaxial cable for the internet signal booster! I was so excited! First, before we could install it we had to figure out where all three components would go and not interfere with each other. We don't want to drill the holes in the wrong places. So we erected the outdoor antenna, on it's telescoping 20' pole outside and ran the coaxial cable and extension cord through a window. The booster is the only thing that gets plugged into power. Then we tried all different placements of it and the interior antenna until they didn't interfere with each other and the booster glowed a happy green. Yay! I checked my cell and my ipad, I was getting 2 bars sometimes and a much more stable 1 bar at the least. So we went outside and moved the antenna. Which meant we had to reconfigure the inside pieces. When we finally got the green light again, I was getting 2 bars consistently all over the house and I could get 3 in the hall!😆 Not that I'd be using my devices in the hall. I was pretty thrilled. Now here's a secret I haven't told: Ron was pretty skeptical about the boosting system and thought it was a waste of money because "we'd never get it to work out here." He's a very practical person, not given to what he thinks of as my "harebrained ideas." But when we started getting 2-3 bars it lit a fire under him. All the sudden he wanted to know what I'd learned that could get 3-4 bars. He actually read the installation manual!!!🤣🤣🤣 We were off to the races! Him wandering around outside, me driving my side-by-side (the heat was doing me in, I could barely walk) and checking locations with the signal finding app. We determined a really good location that was 150' from the tiny house. He's going to get a 150' roll of coaxial wire and bring it back tomorrow! Of course moving the antenna there will require another round of musical components to find the location where they won't interfere with each other. But having read the manual (finally) he's quite confident that he knows just where to place them. We have to wait until he brings the extra coaxial. I won't have power in the tiny house for a while, but I'm so much closer to having good, if not great, internet right here in camp that I'm almost giddy!🤣 Then just because we're the curious type we drove around to some of our cell spots to see where the signal was coming from. The results were kind of surprising. When that finally gets up and running I'll be sure to post some pictures of my tiny house and mountain property. You are welcome to feel envious; I get that too, missing out on so many things that others take for granted as I do. I welcome you to my woodland world in my heart.🥰
Hey Callie, I've missed you! Don't feel left out. Throw out a wild hair topic and share! I love to read what everyone else is doing! It doesn't have to be the same subject matter. I grew up in a family of 6 kids and conversations were always multi-subjected. If thats a word? Many faceted is probably better😁. For me its more about the contact than the content. What others are doing, even if it may seem ordinary to them, is interesting to me because its about them. Not me. I have enough of me in my isolated world. Just hearing from you, knowing you're o.k. and taking care of yourself or being able to meet you here to empathize over any struggles you might have is all good to me.
Patricia, I always love your informative and wise posts! A great cartoon too.😁 Glad to hear Claire is improving and your fire situation is getting better. Yesterday there was a 50 ac. Fire some distance north of me. They put it out, however with the high winds and land formations thick choking smoke engulfed us at bedtime. Its cleared out this morning.
MG, sorry to hear you're having a grumpy start. I hope the grocery order and Amazon shipment lift your spirits. Hugs to you!
Amy, I used to use weed pulling to vent😁 I'd be out there grousing under my breath, yanking them out. I'm sure the neighbors thought I had a few loose screws. 😆😆😆 Effective though. I'm sure your butter tart recipients feel the love with every delicious mouthful!😋
Have a great day everyone!
Another episode of "Adventures with Grocery Delivery" brought to you by Giant Direct. My groceries were delivered, all of it, but with three extra bags, all refrigerator goods, that weren't mine. Finally got through to Giant's customer service. They tried every which way to Sunday to get a hold of the delivery person, no luck. They can't even find the order (order number is on the bags), so I got to keep the groceries, only I didn't. My refrigerator/freezer is full enough so my upstairs neighbor won the grocery giveaway. She has a very erratic work schedule and is usually out the door by now, so she got lucky. She really, really appreciated that I thought of her. Made my day.
OLM, I assume you know a thing or two about exterior cables to antennas, etc. I remember my ex, a ham radio operator, and former service tech used hard line at house long ago. It was non-conducting metal (aluminum, I think) through which he threaded his antenna cable. Kept the squirrels, rabbits and such from chewing the wires. Found this, but there are, I'm sure, other sites with recommendations and info. https://www.cablesandkits.com/learning-center/outdoor-network-cable
Raining again.
MG,
Thank you! My husband may know about it, he mentioned encasing it in pipe, but I'm copying and sending him your post just in case. Most Excellent!!! Now you've made another person's day!😃
I hate destructive rodents and we certainly have a plethora. Its why I don't shoot most snakes. We passed a yellow striped snake of greater than 1.25" diameter on our drive yesterday. It alarmed my husband when I got to the size and scale pattern in my description. He thought rattler. But I'd checked the tail: long, skinny, pointy. Definitely not a rattler. I think it may have been a bull snake. None the less, Ron hollered, "Stop!" He got out and tried to find it. It was long gone. Racers or garter snakes don't get that big. Bull snakes do a great job on rodents. I was concerned about the chipmunks, squirrels, pack rats, mice and red diggers maniacal chewing. [/b
Good morning, we had rain again overnight, it's 61 presently at 10:03 am and our eventual high will be 81. Per the fires, "Precipitation and cooler weather will limit fires to creeping and smoldering. However, duff layers in the Interior's southern regions are still dry and holding heat, making resistance to control very high until more wetting rains are received."
Meet and greets, morning routines and feeding everyone is accomplished while coffee is almost done. My new system in my morning routine is cleaning and wiping down kitchen and bath and putting everything back in its proper place, instead of my office or living room. So, the only "heavy duties" are vacuuming the carpets and watering the plants. Farrah's litter box is cleaned nightly rather than in the mornings. Doing chores this way instead of designating a proper day or proper time works better for me.
I had a couple of people drop by yesterday and I had to laugh, while everyone was discussing the construction uproar, Farrah ventured out, just momentarily and one, my friend's visiting sister, said oh, you have a cat! My friend remarked, the five-foot cat tree in the corner didn't give it away? She laughed, but said there's no smell. I can always tell there's a cat by the litter smell. That made me feel good.
Amy, you lasted longer than I would. If I've firmly stated no interest and they don't get the hint. I hang up.
OLM, There are no snakes in Alaska and when we were in Kentucky visiting my ex's parents. I wanted to see one, outside of zoos. We spent part of the fall and winter there, out in the hills, and I never saw one. The only time I saw a snake in the wild was a bull snake in Nebraska in the road.
We have none of the icks, fleas, chiggers, ticks, etc., either, as the cold winters kill them off. The mosquitoes, Alaska's unofficial state bird, and the noseeums make up the lack.
I had never heard of red diggers and had to look them up. After discovering they were squirrels, I checked to see if we had any. Arctic ground squirrels, Red squirrels, and Northern flying squirrels are in the Interior, two other types are in the southeast, a Prince of Wales Island flying squirrel and Kupreanof red squirrel.
correction:
Racers can get up to 8 Ft. Long! I had no idea! I'm trying to get a better identification.
Patricia, Oregon has 14 kinds of snakes, and because of its temperate weather one site claimed it had one of the least amounts. Guess he needs to look at Alaska among other locations.
Kudos on the no litter box odor! Thats quite a badge of honor.
Well, my quiet day went kaput. I forgot that it's Golden Days, a celebration of our city's founding from trading post to gold camp to dust bowl settlers resettlement to military bases to oil workers, etc. The city was incorporated in 1903.
There's a parade, costumes, exhibits, lots of food from different nationalities, boat races, baseball, soccer, and softball games as well as little league. Golfing and other games, foot races and events. And of course there are competing loud microphones which will go until at least 11 pm. A good day to stay inside.
There's still lots of gold, but now it's harder to get to with multiple heavy equipment. Some families still have private gold mines for small stakes.
OLM, my father-in-law told me to be careful wandering around as there were multiple venomous snakes but in all the time I was there, not a single snake stopped by. I believe we're the only state with no snakes.
Actually, having a clean litter box is easy. I found a good litter and a large box with a cover. I clean it daily and wash it weekly. It's the people who let it sit and don't take care that causes the problem for others. Cats are very clean creatures and if their litter isn't kept clean, they will look for other places.

Very true. We had a cat for 17 years, and never had a smell in the house. When there was a clump, it got removed. Not hard, just takes a minute.
Good morning.
We had a nice rain durin the night bringing the amount up a few inched from the top of the water tote!
Enjoyed company yesterday and had company the day before I wonder who will show up today??
Our friend had two cats and daily the littler box was cleaned out a as he aged Kyle built a table to set the box on..not too high but high enough that our friend (90's) didn't have to bend down yet the cats adapted to.
Better scoot.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Worth looking into, Amy. Thanks for the tip. I would not have thought of setting the cat boxes up on a low table, box, what have you. I might just find something to test that out on one of the litter boxes.
Finally, some action in the grass plot. A groundhog. Not my favorite animal to watch.
Good morning
Gee ,Patricia, nice of you to bring breakfast but you forgot the CATsup :2funny:
Awesome day out and I buried myself in the basement with the sewing machine...one more row and the quilt top is done!
MG, both cats addapted to the new area no problem. Then as age of our friend made it difficult to navigate the basement stairs we brought it up and put it back by a closet. Since it wa always cleaned there was no smell.

To me it was obvious that the cats up.
Hmmm...I'll let you two duke it out.
I rent a two bedroom apartment specifically to accommodate cat boxes. They both reside in the big closet. My big air purifier sits nearby to help remove dust and cat hair from the room. It also ended up being my main computer space. This room is now designated the CAC (Cat and Computer).
It rained for a bit again yesterday. This morning it is mostly thin cloudy and 69oF. Once again the weather forecast says no rain. Maybe it is telling the truth this time.
Good morning
Beautiful sunny day with a temp of 50°with a high of 70...nice!
Some running around in town picking up items from the hardware store and paying a bill. Then home to work outside for a bit, just might be able to pick a feed of beans for supper tonight.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Beautiful day here, too, with no rain for a change but HOT again. "They" have promised a cool down on the way....we will see if that actually happens.
Like reading the Cat Chronicals.
Take care, All.
Good morning all!
Its raining, and has been steadily for hours. It looks like its doing a great job incorporating the silty dust back into the clay soil, i.e. dust remediation. Yay! The clouds are so low that I have no internet at the RV and am taking this out to post on the trail.
Yesterday was a busy day. Ron brought the extra coaxial cable and we set up the inside components right where he wanted them, then tramped around selecting just the right Ponderosa Pine tree to lash the antenna too. It turned out to be not one of the trees we'd considered previously. The extra coaxial came in hundred foot rolls so Ron fixed ends to those and spliced them together. He cut the dead limbs from the trunk that he thought might be in the way. Finally we returned to the tiny house for the "great reveal." Nothin'. We rechecked every connection. We tried different outdoor antenna locations. His frustration level was mounting. He was rechecking the connections to see if they were loose at the booster and I just happened to ask if he was sure the cable to the indoor antenna said "indoor?" That was it. He had them mixed. He was thoroughly disgusted with himself! So he corrected that and went out and reset up the outdoor antenna on the especially prepared tree, and restrung the cable on the most direct path through the woods. This time when we plugged in the booster we got 3 bars all over the house. I told him I thought when he sets it up for the final operation, this was just a preliminary, he should remove more limbs on that tree and a few others on either side of the signal path. Pine tree boughs thrash about in the wind a lot. So now he knows how much conduit to get and is 'formulating a plan in his mind' (line from "Shakiest Gun in the West", a Don Knots' movie) on how he wants to permanently finish that installation. That took all morning. He went into his camper for lunch and a nap. Afterwards he unloaded 2 huge wall batteries and my vintage wood cook stove from the back of his truck. Unfortunately one of the cook stoves legs broke on the trip up, so yh removed it to take home and either weld or fab a workable solution. When I took welding years ago my instructor told me you can't weld cast metals. Ron intends to check with a few welders he knows, incase new techniques have come to light. Anyway, this is the first time I've gotten a good look at it. I was able to find a manufacturer, Washington Stove Works, Everette, Washington and a manufacturing date within a year, so far: 1937. I suspect mine to be a year or two later. There was an archive of a 1937 catalog, the only difference was the color. That year they were white with green trim, mine, the enamel is all green. And its not avocado. There's a layer of yellowed, smoked oil/polish.
The rest of the time he was here we tidied up in the tiny house in preparation for beginning the insulating.
Re: litter boxes. I removed the lumps immediately after my son's rabbit made a deposit, every time. I, and my hypersensitive nose, could always smell it. Even after the offending clump was removed. The curse of being hypersensitive. Loved the bunny, hated the litter box odor. Hedgehog urine smells worse. He had one of those, too.
Cute cat jokes. 😸
Good to see you again Phyllis👋🏼
Good late morning, it's 10:01 and 62 with the forecasters saying a high of 68 which seems contrary to me. The last two days, even with rain overnight, our highs were in the 80s. We had a heavy rain overnight and the clouds are moving in again. The fires aren't contained, but seem to be slowing down. To date, over 900,000 acres have burned in the Interior.
Just to note, I was reading about the floods in Kerr County, and they've revised the missing list down to three. At a commissioner's meeting, the sheriff's office said 2,200 people from multiple agencies have been deployed to assist in the recovery efforts.
"The search included 60 miles of river, murky waters, thick mud and seemingly insurmountable piles of debris. A small army of searchers from across the US and even Mexico have worked through perilous terrain – aided by helicopters, drones and boats, as well as dogs and mules."
We might want to stop and think about that.
Nothing new here, life and routines move on.
Good morning..
Heading back into fry weather this week and we are starting with 40° at the moment. Not sure what is on for today, I did want to cut down a few small trees but we will see how the weather behaves. So far there is no ban on brush etc at the dump and I would like to get this job done and the brush taken away.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning..I don't. Normally comment on this site..But where's. Jane..not like her to not post this long..Hope. She's. OK
Some chores done.....some not...yet.
Just talked with Jane and she is having computer problems but will be on as soon as she can. She says HELLOOOO to you!
Good morning,
Rain day yesterday. The ground is still wet. It was 48°F when I got up. Forecasted to be a high of 72°. Currently partly cloudy. Back to my usual chores.🙂
Have a great day!
Good morning, Hi CC, nice to see you! I miss Jane too, I hope she gets her computer woes fixed soon. And OLM, we're having the same weather here as you report. At lest until this Sunday. And my arthritis is having a party today and my right leg is dancing to its tune. :(
Good morning, Amy, or afternoon in your area.
A good morning to Rick and all looking in or have yet to post.
I found this interesting, as I know some jellyfish can sting,
"Jellyfish can evaporate if left out in the sun.
While we humans can quite happily sit out in the sun for hours (with adequate sun protection, of course), jellyfish can disappear completely if washed ashore on a sunny day. This is because a jellyfish's delicate body is composed of at least 95% water, unlike the human adult body, which is about 60% water.
As you may suppose, jellyfish are jellylike in consistency — at least when well hydrated — but they aren't actually fish. They are in fact plankton, ranging in size from less than an inch to nearly 8 feet long, with tentacles that can measure an impressive 100 feet or more. (The largest jellyfish is longer than a blue whale.) Jellyfish have no bones, no brain, and no heart, and they use only rudimentary sensory nerves at the base of their tentacles to detect light and odors.
Due to their structure and exceptionally high water content, jellyfish can evaporate within hours in a process known as deliquescing if they're stranded on a beach in the sun. The jellyfish shrinks as its water evaporates away, leaving behind nothing but a faint imprint on the sand."
Patricia, it is the afternoon and time is slipping away! Must admit I have been having fun watching the crows adapt to the new water dish. At first they skirted it as much as possible but don't seem to mind it today. A crow spead is wingsout over the corn and layed there for a while, I did get some photos but it was through a screen. :( I have never watched a crow do that.
Trying quinoa tonight, will let you know how it went.
You should also try it with brown rice and garlic.
Our beach is swamped with jellyfish at present, apparently because of warming sea water. They sting terribly and a 6y old girl is in hospital with burn-like patches all over her body.
Some are about 30 cm long and when on the shore sand, they do not seem to evaporate. They will be buried in the sand late at night by the beach cleaners.
It is happening when kids are in summer holiday and the weather is so hot: 33 C - about 92F today, but because of the high humidity it feels like 37 C or about 99F.
Good morning..
Starting out at 46° and behaving for the most part....the temp not me. Great sleeping weather with no a/c running and windows open.
A day of catching up on things that got by thhe wayside and making more pastry.
Bubble, you may keep the jellyfish and the temps! WOW!
Patricia, you ..I will stick to meat and taters.
Rick, how is your weather? Are you getting any relief from the fry temps?
OLM, difficult for the ground to soak up the rain when it is has been dry for so long. I mowed the little trees that were growing and the weeds...grass is burnt till we get more rain .Amazing that the trees and weeds can grow but grass goes into a dormancy.
Enjoty your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy and everyone who posted, will post or checks in. 46°F and sunny. Heading to 80°F high.
The Jelly fish stuff is interesting. Sad to hear about the little girl Bubble ☹️ As a child we went to the Oregon coast often. They didn't seem to evaporate there either. But the Oregon coast is pretty humid. I used to joke that we got 5 sunny days a year, that and 'real Oregonians grew webs between their toes, like beavers.' 😁 Back before I got disabled, and we were living in the high desert of the Columbia Basin, It was typical to survey 8-10 hrs in 110-120° weather. My webs dried to powder and blew away. 😄
Amy, I'm having difficulty visualizing this, " A crow spead is wingsout over the corn and layed there for a while..." Can you explain a bit more?
In my last post I used the term 'wet.' Perhaps that was misleading. Its holding the water, not that the water is staying on top. Its volcanic clay, several feet deep. The previous rain wasn't very hard or long, so the water was sucked down into the deeper clay rather quickly with the surface drying out. This time it rained 'harder' and considerably longer. The soil and forest got a really good drink. The clay dries to a very light grey-white. When there's moisture its dark grey, like gun metal. It was nice to see that it got enough to retain moisture. Its still dark grey this morning.
Yesterday I had to wear my rain boots to wade into the wet undergrowth to work on one of the large trees that went down over the winter. I'll probably have to wear them again this morning. There was a heavy mist over the big meadow when we got up.
Today I plan on making ice cream. I got this nifty ice cream maker that is self freezing. No more ice/salt or pre freezing the bowl. It weighs a lot, but thats o.k.. It cleans up easy. I made it a tight fitting canvas cover to keep out the dirt and dog hair, and store it under the dinette bench on Rosie's side.
I'm continuing to research my stove. One gentleman on a forum posted that the company discontinued the A line, and all other's except the B line but I can't find when. Mine is a CRA-18. I have only found B line models online. Mine's solid green enameled, not white with green. I don't know if solid green predated the white with green, or vice versa. An interesting brain puzzle. I did find out that their oven compartments are insulated with asbestos sandwiched between two sheets of steel. As long as the asbestos isn't powdered, they're supposed to be safe. Amazon has a test kit. 😯
Have a really great day everyone.
Quote from: Amy on July 23, 2025, 06:51:37 AMRick, how is your weather? Are you getting any relief from the fry temps?
Our weather seems to follow that of yours and MarsGal. We got a break, but hot is due back on Thursday.
Good morning, I have no idea what our weather is doing. The skies are cloudy and smoky. Yesterday and this morning, deep purple low-lying clouds never dropped any moisture but slowly sailed on by to the east. Fox's weather report says presently 55, but AccuWeather says 66, and tonight 48. Tomorrow, they say 80 for a high.
Forestry Department says, "On many fires across Alaska, fire managers continue to downsize resources, backhaul equipment, and release crews as they complete their assignments. However, some fires still have plenty of work to be done, including mopping up, cutting down hazardous trees, and even preparing for potential strategic firing operations in some instances.
Wildfire season in Alaska can last into the rest of summer. Although conditions have currently moderated, it doesn't mean a hot and dry spell won't bring increased fire behavior and the potential for movement. Containment percentages won't always rise substantially until fire managers are certain that fire lines will hold in the event conditions change, especially those fires in populated areas. However, substantial work has been completed. Many of the remote fires that are not threatening any infrastructure or values will continue to be monitored by fire managers throughout the season." Level 1 and 2 (READY, SET) evacuations remain in effect.
Today is another inside day, only need to return some books, but luckily the mobile library comes to our building. I'm still stiff and sore with my weather related osteoporosis.
Meet and greets, morning routines, and feeding Farrah and I are done. Coffee's almost done as well.
Re the jellyfish not evaporating is another of those cases where the exceptions don't always prove the rule. Bubble, I hope the child is doing better.
Amy, I gather the quinoa wasn't a hit.
OLM, I see you're having another busy day.
Hi Patricia,
I only cut wood for 2 hours. My battery ran out and someone unplugged my charger with the spare :P . So I making the ice cream. Not labor intesive. Just sitting here listening to it stir. It better hurry or th chocolate sauce will be all gone before the ice cream gets out. ;)
Good morning
We are heading back into fry weather ,temp is 64° at the moment.
Need to pck up meds and then home to carry on.Some jobs that didn't get done yesterday may get done today using the electric chainsaw. Can't say I am that impressed with using it compared to my P38 but it works. I agree with knocking back the sauce first.me it would be butterscotch sauce .
Patricia, lets just say if there was a shortage on quinoa it won't be because of us.
Rick, sound of the a/c is on again today. We are to get into the 90's and possible storm. Hope you have better weather there.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy😆🤣😁,I managed to refrain enough to have some left for the ice cream.😋 Just barely.
I'm up so early I have no idea what the temp is. Too dark to read the thermometer. The forecast says high of 85°F. I intend to get another UTV load off that tree if I can. The diameter is getting big enough my 16" bar is struggling to handle it. Not much peaking out the other side. I do love my GreenWorks electric, cordless chainsaw. Plenty of power. I definitely need to fill drinking water today. I haven't checked, but may need to do Dump & Fill as well. So much excitement 🙄.
I like quinoa. Tasty. Looks like tiny spaghetti Os when cooked.😁
Quote from: Amy on July 24, 2025, 07:18:05 AMHope you have better weather there.
Looks like we're following your "lead". A bunch of ninety's, or almost ninety's coming up
Good morning everyone! It's presently 54 and heading up to only 65. Meets and greets, morning coffee and routines are finished and everyone's been fed. Nothing new here, unfortunately, I decided on Monday to rearrange and reorganize my laptop and all nine of my externals.
And while I keep moving stuff around, my computer tells me my disk is full and needs refreshing. I also, in my zest to re-arrange and to re-organize, found some old PSP lessons from the nineties and decided to retake those.
We're still having the low-hanging clouds moving eastward, however they're a gray rather than purple color. I don't know who's getting that rain, but it's not us, or the fires. However, those clouds may be for the Yukon Territory, and they may need them more than us. I do think the cooler air may help us.
Good morning.
Working of the power from the generator this morning. We had a storm go through last night and at 8 pm we were left in the dark. Power should be back on by 9 pm tonight they said.
Not sure how the day will go now as planned. Oh well just take it as it comes. We did get some rain last night but really could use a lot more for the garden.
OLM, sorry, I forgot to answer your question about the crow with his wings spread out over the food. I am not sure why he did this, I joked that he was saying grace or he was saying all mine!! Never saw this action from them before. I did run and get my tablet and took some photos but they are throuh the sreen on the window and didn't turn out that great.
Rick, what type of weather did you get last night? Storm rattled through here but not close to cause a problem other than power outage.
Better go check the gen for gas.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning Amy and all,
The crow's behavior was certainly interesting. 🤔
I hope everyone enduring high temps/humidity is able to stay cool and dry. We started at 60°F but have dropped to 59°. Our expected high is forecasted for 81°F. Its sunny.
There was a fire north of us yesterday. Its posted at 300ac, but the large fire map hasn't been updated so I don't know if its contained or just how far away it is yet. I do not have any smoke this morning. We did last night.
I only was able to make one more cut from the big tree yesterday. My bar was too short. The butts are also getting too heavy for me to load without straining my back. I moved on to cutting up smaller windfalls, and Gkid push overs. I'll continue with that today as long as I'm able. Probably clean up a slash pile or 2. Ron is scheduled to arrive tonight. I know he intends to bring a screendoor for the tiny house. He wants to trim the edge of the loft deck around the pull down stairs, then he'll finally begin the insulation. Once he vacuums up the sawdust I'll vacuum the wood cookstove's inner chambers. He's bringing me a good wirebrush to clean off the creasote.
Take care of yourselves today.🙂
Quote from: Amy on July 25, 2025, 07:47:36 AMRick, what type of weather did you get last night? Storm rattled through here but not close to cause a problem other than power outage.
Nothing here last night, but today is starting off as FRY. Sort of a fry Friday. Not even 10:00 yet and it's 84°. Weatherman calling for 98°. Time to lay low and keep the A/c going. These hot spells often end with some good thunder boomers. I'll just have to wait and see.
Good morning,
OLM, You can get a better understanding of weather, especially fires in your area, by using, (Linking to); your state's dept. of forestry's website.
For example, New York's Division or Department of Forestry and Fire protection.
You Tube has a whole bunch of clips on this behavior. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=anting+birds
And here is an article from BirdWatching which includes a list of birds that indulge in the behavior and possible other reasons for it.
https://www.birdwatchingdaily.com/news/science/anting-widespread-fascinating-purpose-uncertain/
Good afternoon,
Thank you Patricia. The sites I monitor are the interagency sites coordinating the state, federal, tribal, municipal and as necessary the National Guard fire fighting units. One is for fires under 100 ac. When they're larger that site transfers them to the large fire interagency coordinators. I just check earlier than they update many times. I get up at 4:30-5:30 and get to work as early as possible while its cool. They focus on deploying resources to the fires, sometimes they don't post up the latest info when a certain person may want what she wants when she wants it 🙄, if they're extremely busy.
MG I'll try to take a gander at those links tomorrow on patrol. The hornets and yellow javkets were terrible so we didn't get much time on the internet this afternoon.
Keep cool Rick!
Good morning..
Well yesterday was (not) interesting. First we lost power then internet went down. :( Power came back on around 7 pm , put the generator away and out the power went again. It didn't stay out long but it meant hooking up again.
Today is take brush away, laundry and baking...will see just how much power I have left to get it all done. Nice to have the a/c back on too!!
MG, that was interesting, I sent your info on to a friend as she didn't know why crow did that. Thank you! That was the first time I saw a crow do that!
Better get the day on the roll.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Marilyne hasn't posted for a week, a little unusual for her. I hope she is okay.
It is already 76o and muggy. More rain on the way this afternoon. The good news is that it may not get to 90o.
I got a few small things done yesterday, but mostly I read or was on the computer. Today will likely be similar. The only things I have on my agenda today are to finish up a library book, make a trip to the pharmacy. In small spurts I am continuing my quest to find more stuff to sort, rearrange or pitch. The cats are in need of another nail clipping session.
That's pretty much it, nothing exciting.
Good morning, it's 58 presently with a high of 78 or 81 depending on which website you're at. All the morning routines are finished and coffee's almost done.
I have a breakfast date with friends, and then I'll return to sorting out my nine externals. The problem has been that much of the information has been either spread across too many or duplicated. Since they go back to 1999, this has been frustrating, and I want to sort them into categories.
I've also gotten back into taking PSP lessons, just in time for them to begin their summer recess until September third. I did finish applying, was accepted and have finished and returned the first five lessons. I may also, in September, look into reapplying for more PSP lessons and looking at returning to various graphic groups. One of my externals listed most of my past graphic history which I had forgotten, but was pleased to see.
It's getting time to leave, so I'll wish everyone a good day as they would like it, as Lloyd used to say.
Quote from: MarsGal on July 14, 2025, 08:32:35 PMIs JaneS still having computer trouble? Haven't seen a post from her since the beginning of the month.
Mechanicsburg just reported its first murder here in 20 years. I think it was near where Jane's relative lives that she comes down to visit on occasion. The accused was sitting in the front yard waiting for the cops. He is apparently claiming self defense.
I think we are done with our afternoon rain. Not expecting any more for a few days.
Patricia, was there a comment or question to the repost of my July 14 message? I don't see it, but what I did see is a grammar "mishap" on the second line of paragraph two. "That" should read "whom".
Overnight we had overhead or close-by thunder and lightning along with the rain instead of it passing mostly to the south of us. More rain expected throughout the day. Current temp is 74o. So much for going to my sister's to pick up a bookshelf she doesn't want. The bookshelf is in the same style and color of others I have, so it will not look out-of-place.
Good morning
We did have a light rain overnight, very light!
We did get the brush away to the dump yesterday then home to do laundry and get the tart shells ready to fill.
Will finish off the tarts and bedding today then rest!
MG, Jane peeked in yesterday but is still having a problem with her computer.
Patricia, hope you had a great time out with your friends yesterday.
Rick, we are still using our a/c and hope the weather cools down a lot. Rather leave the windows open than use the a/c.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good afternoon, nothing new here, I'm still embroiled in my external drives. All usual morning routines and feeding everyone and having coffee were accomplished. I live such an exciting life... these days it's more solitary pursuits than in a group.
MG, I noticed you had posted about two people who posted in other groups, so, I moved your post here from Norm's. I see Amy answered your question.
I'm having the same issue with my right leg from hip to knee. It's painfully reminding me that it doesn't like the fickle weather changes. Often, looking out the window is more accurate than any weather report.
Amy, I did enjoy the time-out and being with friends. We passed both food and gossip around. No AC here, just a slider and window that lets air in even closed.
I hope Phyllis, Sandy-Daf, OLM, and Rick are having a good day, It's time for me to get back to copying, reassembling and deleting my externals.
It's so hard to clean out old drives, --- and keep track of things
Good morning..
Starting off at 61° but heading to OH MY GOSH!! We are off to the city to get undercoating done on the van a bit of shopping (maybe) then home.
Patricia, have you tried Epsomgel? A friend gave me a tube of it and it does work!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone,
I had a couple of long work days with Ron here Saturday and most of Sunday. We keep deciding we want to do "one more thing" before he hangs the insulation. He decided to install the glass blocks I'd got to let in natural light in the hallway. He didn't like the mounting tracks I got and he fought with them for half the first day. The biggest issue was he wouldn't listen when I told him how they were supposed to be used. He had to do it his way, which took way longer. It does look nice. He did install the screen door. It has bars running vertically and is screened with expanded metal, rather than the typical clothe or aluminum screening. I wanted a screen door that would be more Kato resistant. When Kato's in the RV I don't leave the door open, he'll just bust through it if a critter shows up. One paw swipe on the clothe or aluminum screen and its shredded. He trimmed back the loft decking and remounted the pull down ladder. When he finished those things he vacuumed up the engineered wood sawdust. I resealed the fresh cuts and did lots of sweeping. I also wire brushed my woodstove and vacuumed it out. I picked up limbs and small slash piles and transferred them to the burn pile (For burning in winter). I didn't spend much time inside, other than eating and sleeping. My internet was even more spotty than usual.
Its 58°F, heading for mid 80°s. I heard a few heavy drops of rain in the night. Now that its light out I think I must have slept through the main shower.
Sorry to hear you're dealing with that kind of pain Patricia. I use homeopathics for my rheumatic gout/RA. 🙁 Does sitting at the computer make it worse? The consolidating of hard drives sounds daunting. I hope you don't have problems with data retrieval due to updated OSs. I personally think it should be mandatory that all new OSs and updates continue to support all previous versions. We have a serious of computers for that very reason. Ours go back to the 80s.
Good reading everyone's posts. I hope everyone is doing well. Anyone have an update on Barb? How are you doing Ciaobella? Thinking of you Phyllis!🙂
I think I have a bit of brain fog this morning. I can't remeber the specifics of what everyone said on the previous page.😞 I read it twice. Must be from the engineered wood dust. With the spotty internet I'm concerned I'll lose my post/connection if I switch back to look. :-\
More later, when I can. Take care of yourselves today!
Good morning, mostly cloudy with a light rain at 71. We're to have light rain this entire week.
I finished my externals, all nine, last night, but I had a few issues with dry eyes and I kept losing sight of my cursor. I'd have to vigorously shake my hand, hoping I would see the movement. It was usually resting either at the upper left or lower left, screen, when I needed to move an item from one file or folder to another. I was just so weary after four days.
Amy, thanks, I had to look that up, a proudly Canadian product which is probably why we don't have it locally. It's 26.99 for a 90ml or 3 oz. tube at Amazon. In the US, it's sold online at health stores or on Amazon.
OLM, you have as usual, it seems, been very busy. I feel guilty, on my couch. What type of dog is Kato?
My main pain is in the early morning after sleep or after couch-surfing. It's generally from my right hip to my right knee, and the weather has a lot to do with it. It's tiresome, but then I see Aviva who has mediports for her pain and in a wheelchair, and feel ashamed to say anything.
My externals date from 1999 and my first computer to the present one, although, I'll soon need another external. The majority is graphics or classes. My old system was to re-style new information sections on the newer external, making it necessary to try and locate older information when needed. But now they're organized by types of information categories.
The main point is to only have an extrnal connected when uploading or downloading information. One friend was upset when her computer got hyjacked and the extrnal went down with the computer. She had left it always attached to her computer and insisted I had never told her not to. That and she never had an antivirus program because the computer came with one!
Good morning.
Oh boy, another fry day. :( Yesterday went well, got the van undercoated ,.shopped then scooted home after having lunch. Drove in the driveway to find our neighbour loading up the bit of brush that I couldn't take in his truck to go to the dump! We really have good neighbours!
Work around home today, beans will likely have to be picked and zucchini is starting to come to that point where everyone gets one!
OLM, we put the screen part up instead of down, then dogs couldn't poke or go through it.
Patricia, I did not think that something like that would work or be so quick at doing so.
Better get the day on the roll.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good morning Patricia, Amy and everyone who checks in after me😀,
Patricia, You finished! You are a beast! (She said as she collected her socks that were knocked off.) you have no cause to feel guilty that was a grueling task! Besides, it gets hot, I melt down. I soend the afternoons on my dinette bench either reading of doing hand work. Here lately its trying to make phone calls and find help. I need a lawyer, and I don't know what kind takes my case. Last week I received notice that the timber company will be spraying a highly toxic mixture of pesticides on a large tract of land a half mile behind my property. My condition is so severe I can't tolerate application within a mile ground, 2 miles aerial. I sent them my letter of accommodation from my doctor and even a link to a biocide that is non-toxic that would not only take out the plants the silviculture forester feels are sucking up the resources from his trees, but return the moisture and nutrients to the soil. They are going ahead with their spray. It will maim, torture and there's a high probability it could kill me. I've made dozens of phone calls to various kinds of attorneys. They all specialize, and want simple, cookie cutter cases to maximize their profits. I don't fit their profile. Just rejections so far. I'm stressed and running out of ideas. Physical work takes my mind off of my problems, so I work when I can. I calked part of the facia under the eave on the tiny house after moving slash. I read a mystery yesterday after I couldn't move forward on my legal issues. I was waiting for a return call. They emailed me a rejection at the end of the day. I will do more forest cleaning today then resume working on finding a lawyer.
I so understand about looking at other's issues and realizing that theirs are so much worse and they are holding up so much better than me.🥰🤗
Kato is an Anatolian Shepherd crossed with an Armenian Gampyr. He is 150 lbs of teeth, muscle and defensive aggression. He's also as agile as a cat. Its rather startling for his size. At the farm his play area has a 10' high fence, because he can leap more than 6-8'. In regards to Amy's strategy of turning the door over, good idea, for normal dogs. Kato is a "dog of war" and his breeds were created to take down all threats and obstacles. I thought I knew what I was getting into... I was woefully ignorant! The vertical bars run the full length of the door. The expanded metal screen too. More air flow++.
Amy, what a lovely neighbor!
I need to get the dogs out. They're letting me know it. Take care everybody!
OLM This all sounds as though you need an emergency injunction to delay or stop the spraying if they will be spraying soon. Whose land is the being sprayed? Fed, State or Private? Here is some info about filing with the Feds. https://www.uscourts.gov/forms-rules/forms/complaint-and-request-injunction I expect the state will have something similar. Here is info on filing an injunction on your own. https://legalclarity.org/how-to-file-an-injunction-without-a-lawyer-a-step-by-step-guide/ I am not sure if the Institute for Justice (not for profit organization) can help, but they seem to have a knack for finding a suitable lawyer. https://ij.org/ They have done work in Oregon on behalf of small farm owners owning just a few milk cows. Good luck!
MG,
Thank you! Thank you for the great leads! Getting an injunction was what I was searching for a lawyer to help me with. I'm getting right on this,
A good Tuesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 💐
Once again, I am playing catch up with our group after having issues with our internet. My email has been messed up....my cell phone keeps being selective about whom it is going to allow to ring through‼️ I get so frustrated and I soon find myself just trying to deal with all of it and nearly give up😩😤
In addition to this craziness I have been dealing with dizziness and extreme fatigue for quite sometime. A visit to my internist this past week to see IF there is a reason for this, and so far the answer is that my thyroid is fine and I am not anemic‼️. He did say the new med he put me on for diabetes is known to cause dizziness.......but he asked me to continue taking it and see what the labs say. I see him again in a week or so....
This past week we have been busy as can be going through the process of buying a home in Arizona. Thankfully our youngest son lives close to this home and has happily stepped up to be our representative. We felt totally confident to go through with this purchase with him being our eyes.
As some of you might know I have been looking at properties for quite sometime. We spent 6 months last winter in Prescott AZ near another son and his family. We loved it there, however the altitude in Prescott is near the same as Denver. I must admit that we both feel much better at a lower altitude. Hence purchasing a home in the Phoenix area.
Now comes the time that we have to start the big clean out of accumulated stuff after living in this home for 21 years😩🤪. We are not going to have to push ourselves to the extreme HOWEVER that being said, we are old and do not perform like we used to🤪🤪. Many might think we have totally lost it to be doing this but we found the home that we have continued to look for and when it presented we had to jump on it‼️‼️
When all is said and done we both are comfortable with our decision and know we will be happy in this new life adventure. We are extremely sad to be leaving our son and family here as well as our home and friends, but one adventure can not start until the current one ends🥰
Today is our 58th Wedding Anniversary. We are so blessed to have enjoyed this wonderful life together and we plan to have many more years to come, God willing 🙏
Have a good day and keep cool as you can....there horrendous temperatures across our nation are awful and concerning.
Jenny, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! Great to hear that you've found the home you've been looking for for so long. I've been having the same problem with my home phone as you are having with your cell.
The day before yesterday I got notice that Comcast/Xfinity is discontinuing their email server. We are all to be shifted over to Yahoo sometime in August. I like Yahoo for their financial news, but didn't care for their email, and I never cared for Outlook. I will take a look at it but my first thoughts are to find another mail client. There is one I used before I got Comcast that I liked, and it is still among the best of lists. There are two others I want to look at.
Good morning..
Starting off at 58° and I hope it does race too much higher!
Not sure what is on the agenda today, always work inside but we need to put the generator up on a wagon. This wagon needs wheels on it that doesn't go flat and we bought 4 yesterday. Before that happens an oil change is in order....lots of fun jobs :)
OLM, take it to your senator, or your tv/radio station...
Jenny, hope you and Bob had a fantastic 58th Anniversary!
Patricia, ok, where are you?
Rick, I hope it is cooler there..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Our heat is supposed to break tonight, for a couple of days of rain, - then back up. Local flooding predicted for tomorrow. I repeat - I'm lucky, I live at the top of the hill.
The "wildlife" has been out feeding late or early, before the hot sun rises. Make sure to leave them some water out there.
Good morning everyone,
Its 62°F here, heading for 90°. Mostly sunny.
Same schedual as yesterday, though thanks to MGs suggestions I happened upon a law firm that looks like a good fit. They didn't give me an immediate rejection. I sent in a brief summary that has been referred to their lawyers to see if any of them want to take it up. They have done exactly this kind of thing before, defending people from pesticide trespass by forestry spraying in the wilderness near Gold Beach. I'm hopeful.
Thank you for the suggestion Amy. Unfortunately I tried that back in the beginning of my travails. My state senator is the guy that colluded against me with all kinds of state and county officials (according to the new sheriff) and was a good friend of the guy that had me sprayed in 1996. He was a county commissioner at the time. The good old boy network is alive and well in Oregon. The politics, politicians and bureaucrats are corrupt. The corruptocrats get rid of the decent ones that try to help. Back then my Rep, Jenkins and his wife Alice were such good people. They were trying hard on my behalf. The bad ones forced them out. Alice called me personally to say they were leaving politics and were grieved they could not help me. My currant Rep just got indicted for insider trading. Thats the tip of the iceberg. We knew him before he was elected. We knew about a bunch of his illegal graft after he got into power. I hope they get him for the rest of it too. When I volunteered with a 501(c3) for people with Toxic Injuries, I petitioned governors for a proclamation recognizing our class of disabled. I learned first hand how deeply the pesticide companies were embedded in the bureaucracy! It was terrible! I have a small amount of first hand experience with the media. You have to watch your back there too.
Generator on a wagon, great idea! 👍
Patricia, I ordered magnesium oil from Amazon years ago. I'd forgotten all about it. It's way messier, but should work the same as the gel. I can't handle the "gel ingredients." It stains your clothes, furniture, etc until it absorbs, so you have to keep the part you applied it to away from everything for awhile. Kinda like doing your nails. If it works for you, its worth dealing with the inconvenience. I think it was around $10.00.
Well, I'd best get moving while its still cool. Have a great day everyone! Stay cool, stay safe!
Good morning, another day, 3rd or 4th, of steady rain. I spent yesterday with meet and greets. It wasn't a good day as we learned we lost Claire on Monday night.
Then I learned that the drain dismantle people f-up and will be returning between 8 and 5, on the 4th, 5th, and 7th of August. Farrah will then be confined to the bedroom and I will need to be out during those times. I believe that this is similar to the last time when they accepted the lowest bid.
Patricia, I am sorry for the loss of your friend Claire. Just hold onto the good memories that you shared with her.
Thank you, she was, once, the peacemaker of the group and was a regular at the farmer's market, along with her husband, with flowers, eggs, produce, honey, etc.
Then came Covid, her husband's death and having to give up her home and animals in 2020-2021. It was too much at once.
Patricia, Happy Birthday :hb3: :hb3: :hb2: :hb2:
Good morning
Starting off at 51° this morning. We are to have a cooler day but we shall see, weather guesser has been right for a long time.
Picking up a sheet of 3/4 plywood this morning to put a wider top on the wagon for the generator. This job will make it much easier than me pulling the 212 lb gen out to the hook up.
Rick, our a/c got a bit of a break overnight but it will be nice to not have to use it. Hope it is a bit cooler there.
OLM, money talks and it is not what you know but who you know.
Time to move it.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good morning everyone,
I'm sorry for your loss Patricia. :'(
Amy, the wagon is a great idea!
Its 64°F, partly cloudy with showers and a slight chance of T-storms this afternoon in my region. I did not hear back from any lawyers. I read up some pesticide bills that they'd tried to get through congress in the last 10 years. I found out that the "Right to Farm and Forest" bill had been substantially fortified against people complaining about pesticide trespass. It still says applicators can be sued for serious harm or death. It also says if I lose I'd have to pay for their legal fees. They'd bankrupt me (or my survivors). That ratchets up my anxiety.
Happy birthday! Patricia 🎉
Hello Everyfriend! I'm in! and I'll try to get back and talk to everyone. I've missed you all and I'm going to try to get back soon!
Good morning everyone, those here and those yet to come. I slept in this morning after being on the phone and email most of the night.
Amy, thanks for the birthday wishes. I believe, a couple of us will be going out for a birthday breakfast on the third of next month's groceries and bill paying. My life will be hectic, being out for the third, forth, and fifth and then seventh of the month.
OLM, thanks for the birthday wishes. I was going to like your post for them, but then abstained due to your lawyer troubles.
We have similar issues here with commercial gold mines and oil drilling, not only chemical issues, pollution, and land destruction, but also traditional rights of Indian and Eskimo lands. Might makes right has never been more true today. It's another alliteration of robber barons.
Jane, so good to see you're back!!
Hello again! I'm on my way to bed but I thought I'd stop by and wish you all a good night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. I'm still keeping my granddaughter's doggie while she works but she's off tomorrow so I don't have to be up in the wee hours of the morning to greet him! We're both getting on in years but we still do our walks twice a day. And when he isn't here, I do my walks alone!
It's so nice to read all your entries! You sure are a busy bunch! Now that I know where you are, I'll be back to see what you are all up to and to let you know I'm still around! Good night, Everyfriend!
Let's make a new start HERE (https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/soda-shoppe/soda-shoppe-august-1-2025/)
