Have You Ever Been Insulted And Complimented At The Same Time?
It's amazing how a person can compliment and insult you at the same time.
Recently, when I greeted my coworker, she said, "You look so gorgeous, I didn't recognize you."

LIFE

The horse and mule live 30 years
And nothing know of wines and beers.

The goat and sheep at 20 die
And never taste Scotch or Rye.

The cow drinks water by the ton
And at 18 is mostly done.

The dog at 15 cashes in
Without the aid of rum or gin.

The cat in milk and water soaks
And then at 12 short years it croaks.

The modest, sober, bone-dry hen
Lays eggs for noggs, then dies at 10.

All animals are strictly dry:
They sinless live and swiftly die;
But sinful, ginful, rum-soaked men
Survive for threescore years and 10.

And some of them, a very few,
Stay pickled till they are a 100 and 2.

The Sleeper in the Valley

It is a green hollow where a stream gurgles
crazily catching silver rags of itself on the grass;
where the sun shines from the proud mountain:
it is a little valley bubbling over with light.

A young soldier, open-mouthed, bare-head,
his neck bathed in cool blue cress,
sleeps; he is stretched out on the grass, under the sky,
pale on his green bed where the light falls like rain.

His feet in the gladiolis, he sleeps. Smiling as
a sick child might smile, he has a nap:
cradle him warmly, Nature: he is cold.

No scent makes his nostril quiver;
he sleeps in the sun, his hand on his breast,
at peace. There are two red holes on his right side.

My friend's husband is always telling her that housekeeping would be a snap if only she would organize her time better.
Recently he had a chance to put his theory into practice while his wife was away.
When I popped in one evening to see how he was managing, he crowed, "I made a cake, frosted it, washed the kitchen windows, cleaned all the cupboards, scrubbed the kitchen floor, walls and ceiling and even had a bath."
I was about to concede that perhaps he was a better manager than his wife, when he added sheepishly,
"When I was making the chocolate frosting, I forgot to turn off the mixer before taking the beaters out of the bowl, so I had to do all the rest."

Good morning..

Well March came in like a lion and it is still roaring (windy). We have 4 maybe 6 inches of new snow to deal (dance) with this morning.

Bubble thank you for the new start! You always outdo yourself each month!!

Better get my dancing duds on....can you hear the excitement in my voice?

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

WOW, I didn't realize when I sat down here that it was a new month!  I loved everything Bubble!  You do a great job of setting us up to start the month!  Sometimes I go back and read again and I've even been know to copy something and stick it up on the wall for others to share!  Thank you for being YOU!

And Good Morning to Everyfriend!  We're going to have another "Spring is on the way" day today!  The temp is supposed to make it into the high 40s!  I can live with that!

I decided since Cooper isn't here and I have the morning to myself, I'd strip the bed and get into a nice clean one tonight!  So the dirty ones are already in the washer and the bed is waiting patiently for the clean ones.

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to let us know how you do that!  We might like to try your way!

Good job, Bubble.  And thanks for using my turtle graphic. When I was learning how to make graphics using Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop 'way back in old Seniornet, I thought I would never get it and then it finally clicked into my brain and opened up a whole new world to me.  I loved those years of creativity. I am so glad you can still express your self in that way.  And, thanks for reminding me of that enjoyable time.

Sunny and warm here today and feels like Spring but cold and dreary will be back tomorrow.  Meanwhile I will definitely enjoy today.

Snow is cleaned up for the time being ,it is still snowing and I hope it soon stops!! The wind has died down for now anyway.

Need to make a pot of soup, maybe chicken noodle will do and some cheese biscuits to go along with it.

Crows have been here for their breakfast and have moved on.Will check to see if they need more when I warm up!!

Laundry  awaits...

Good morning Phyllis.I wasn't sure what to have for dessert but now I do...your baked custard!!

I'm just about to head back the hall to look for the haystack!  Cathy and I went to the local high school's Musical presentation.  My granddaughter, Kiran works backstage and she always asks if we want tickets.  I always enjoy their plays and this one was "Shrek".  They did a great job but then they always do!!

Tomorrow, it will be church in the morning and finishing canning the vegetable soup in the afternoon!  I think I might have 2 more canners full of it and I plan to finish it tomorrow.  I'll post the recipe after that but not tomorrow.  I have it all written down but I have to type it up.  I just wrote it on a piece of paper as I went.  Cathy looked at it and asked a few questions and added a few notes!  I had some for my supper and it's good!

Now I'm tired!  I had the TV on for a bit but I just couldn't get interesed in anything and I decided I'd probably fall asleep during whatever I stopped on anyway so I turned it off!

Now I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own!  Do whatever suits your fancy and let us know what that was.  We're very curious (nosy)!!

Woke and now can't get back to sleep - Astros play around noon and there will probably be a special celebration opening the game - today is Texas Independence Day - did not make any Chilli but Paul and Sally will probably stop by with some Barbecue and then after dark will be dog howling time with fireworks going off all over the area... hmmm I wonder if state offices will be closed tomorrow since Texas Independence is on a Sunday... looks like no local schools are closed tomorrow. Finished my sleepy time tea and hopefully it will at least let me be drowsy and so off to bed again...

Good morning..

I thought I could sleep in but like Barb, woke and can't get back to sleep. A day of rest here.... a sewing day for me!!

Temp has plummeted to -21° F ,no swattin skeeters today! On the bright side no snow to deal with either!! So looking for Spring.

Jane , looking forward to your soup recipe. I made chiocken noodle yesterday but always looking for something new. Chicken noodle and beef barley are my favourites but always looking for something new.

Phyllis, I hope your son was willing to make it,so easy just mix and throw in the IP..

Patricia, the snow is up to and past in some areas of our waists here. Soon they will start tapping and have yet to finish off trails to gather the sap, difficult just wrestling through that snow to tap the trees..

Callie and Rick good morning.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!Right now it's 17 degrees here with a "feels like" temp of 11 degrees and it's only heading for a high of 32 in midafternoon.  It sort of makes me glad that my plan for today is to finish canning the soup!  That won't take me outside.  But the trip to church will take me outside!

AMY, I thought I told you to keep the cold up there or at least send it North!  I do NOT want any more winter weather here.  I'm ready for SPRING!

I have to go get a shower and get ready for church so I'll try to get back in when I have the jars in the canner.  that gives me about an hour and a half break with just moving the canner off the burner after the first hour and 15 minutes.

I wish you all a great day and I wish you all NO MORE SNOW!

I'm up early today at 5:23AM.  I'm another who's been awaiting Jane's soup recipe.

Farrah's boycotting her breakfast again this morning, meet and greets are ongoing and morning routine and coffee are finished.

Amy, we're expecting snow again on Thursday but, at plus 38, those trace amounts won't last long.

Here's hoping everyone has a great day this Sunday and stays safe!

Jane,we will get rain/snow on Tue! Tomorrow they say snow but I do hope they are wrong and rain on Wed. Then next week temps are to start to rise..really looking forward to that!

Patricia,I had a day planned of sewing, I did get some done but not all that I wanted. Mon will knock the socks off of me as a trip to the city usually does so maybe some sewing.

Well, I have 14 quarts of vegetable soup canned and ready for the shelf until the first Sunday in April when I'll take 4 quarts to the church for the April sale.  I'll try to get the recipe typed up tomorrow and then posted in the recipe section in here.  I'll let you know if I make it!  I have one jar of soup left to eat and I'd be happy to share it with any of you who would like to stop by!  I also bought a jar of Taco Soup this morning at the March soup sale at church and that's what I had for supper.  It was delicious!  I might need to get that recipe from the lady who made it!

Now I'm ready to hit the haystack!  I'm tired all the way down to the ends of my toes and all the way off the top of my head!  I wish you (and me)  a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  Make the day your own in every way!  I'll be sharing the day with Cooper!  See you later in the morning!

Good morning..

Starting off  a tad chilly at -14° this morning. We are off to the city again, let's hope weather permits us to get to and home this time! Snow is not to happen until 4 pm the weather guesser said.

If the weather does warm up next week the sap will run! Fresh maple syrup is always a treat here!!

Jane , that is a lot of work but the results are a treat to many that don't or are unable to make soup.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The Veggie Soup recipe is posted in the recipe folder.  I hope I did it correctly.  Any questions, please ask!  And I'm sure you all know how to cut a recipe in half or fourths to make it for yourselves.  If I didn't can it, I would probably cut back, too.  And I bet my Dad would sit up there shaking his head if I cut back!

Today, Cooper is here and when I finish here, I'm going in and sit with him for a bit and rest my eyes.  Today is my day off after two days of canning soup!

AMY, I wish you a safe trip to and from the city!  Let us know when you are back safe!

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  Work, watch TV, sleep...whatever suits your fancy!

Jane you and your family recipe were on my mind last night and have an idea you may like - what about putting together a few pages for your family that starts with the recipe on the first page and then follow up with a bit about your Dad and various memories you have of him and his mother making the soup and when you started to bring it to church and any events you experienced like for example the new canner that your daughter helped you assemble and any memory you have of eating or sharing the soup maybe when your children were little - just anything you can remember that happened because of the soup - I'm sure when your Dad and his Mother were making it there was no frozen veggies so what did they use - on and on... a Memory booklet featuring the soup and how it affected the family and the community.

Also I had a couple of questions Jane about preparing the soup that I put in a post over under your recipe - I asked, if you used any seasoning and if so what kind and when did you add it - also when you cook the beef do you start with chopped onions in oil or butter browning it a bit before you add the broth.

Good morning, 18 degrees so far this morning, heading up to 53 for a high. Amy, we won't have any snow until Friday, a day later than earlier speculated. We'll cool back into the twenties next week, and the warmer temperatures will move into the Yukon territories, so you may see some higher temps soon.

Meet and greets are done, along with feeding Farrah and me, making coffee, and finishing my morning routine or as Callie says, domestic duties.

I was invited to see the start of the Iditarod today, but begged off because of the expected crowd and noise. I will be heading downtown with friends to pay bills, shop, and get together for lunch, but that's it for today other than watering my plants. I may shop for some repotting soil and new pots as well. They're getting so big, I've repotted twice so far in four years.

My tree was probably a mistake, even if it will take years to grow to its full height. I keep all my plants on six foot shelves due to Farrah's fondness for fresh greens.

Jane, thanks for the recipe, I'll probably make my own broth so I can control the salt, But, it is definitely a winner. I sent it off to my sister as well, because she likes those put up types of soups.

Here's hoping everyone has a good day, a good week, and that the California, and North and South Carolina fires are soon out.

Ah, Hah! Found you.

Nothing thrilling going on, except for my ongoing effort to get my taxes done as far as I can go. I am still missing a K-1 and needed to request a rev. 1099. I am about as far as I can go without them.

The last week or so I have been on the lookout for early critter sightings. All I have seen so far are a black or grey cat, and a dead deer along the road about a mile away. I do hope that it is not one of those who have been frequenting the small field behind my apartment the past year.

Good morning..

Yesterday went well but these trips tucker me out! Today is pick up a few things in our town then home. Seems we are to get rain which isnt too bad as long as it doesn't go to freezing rain. I did pick up a pail of sand from the roads dept should we get the freezing rain.

Jane, thank you for your soup recipe!! Do you had onions to it?  I will be making a canning this.

MG on our way to the city we saw 6 deer in one spot and 3 in another. Then as we were coming home 3 wild turkey in a man yard. Nice to see them!

Oh oh crow is calling for his breakfast.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

The last time I saw wild turkeys (other than on TV) was when I went with my ex on one of his service trips up a switchback road to a communications tower site above one of the turnpike tunnels probably 45-50 years ago.

Gosh, I can hardly believe how much time has gone by. I've been messing around with computers since the 80's. It was a Sinclair, British made. The Commodore came after that, and then an Amiga. Although I seem stuck with Windows OS machines over the years, I still have a fondness for Unix/Linux based OS systems. :computer:

Good Morning/Afternoon Everyfriend!

Now let me see If I can remember all the questions....
First, yes I did have butter and onions in a large pan when I browned the roast then I added the roast and enough water to almost cover it.  I turned the heat to low and let it cook until the meat was well done.  Then I removed it from the bone and put it in a container that I could put in the freezer.  You don't have to freeze it but I knew I wasn't going to have time to make the soup for about a week.

Then, when I took it out of the freezer and put it in a large pan, added the extra broth and the rest of the veggies.

BARB, I do like your idea for putting up the recipe with background info for the family and friends!  I'm going to work on that idea!  I made a copy of your suggestions so I don't forget them.  Thank you for the good thoughts!

Cooper spent the night with me!  Frankie got some new medicine at the dr day before yesterday and she wasn't feeling up to par so she went home and tried to sleep it off and Cooper and I had a night together.

She'll be picking him up in about 45 minutes so I better go sit with him til she gets here.  I wish you all a good rest of the day.  Do whatever pleases you best!

Good afternoon, I just got home after shopping, and lunch with friends. I ended up buying a couple of hooded sweatshirts, and some silver earrings, after finishing bill paying and grocery shopping. Ruthie asked if that was all I was getting as they had some great sales, and Janis butted in with she does all her shopping online.

This happened a couple of times, so after that if I was asked a question, I automatically looked to the other to answer. After the third time of this, They both turned to me and I asked them to repeat the question. I guess you had to have been there, but we were all laughing and being silly.

Well, I don't see any more questions about the recipe so I guess it's OK.  I'm on my way to bed.  If you asked me what I did all day, I'd just have to give you a blank look.  I can't remember it all  except the three walks Cooper and I took together.  But I was busy all day!  And now I'm tired and ready for the haystack!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way and don't forget to tell us how you did that!  We're the nosy type!  Good night!  Sweet Dreams!

Work around home today lots of jobs are wanting to be done starting with vacuum sealing cooked hamburg for Jesse and beets for us.

I just might get some sewing done too!

Jane, thank you again for the recipe.no questions  I just need to make and eat!

MG, it is nice to see all the animals coming out of the woods. I am looking forward to when the ice is off the lakes and the loons are back. Two of our crows are back, now if I could get them off their 6 am feeding!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be a shorty because Cooper is waiting (impatiently) for his morning walk!  As soon as it's light enough, we'll be off!  And I'm afraid the rain will be starting at the same time.  Time to dig out my poncho!

AMY, good luck with your hamburger and beets!  I need to get to the Farmers Market and pick up a couple things....Beets, Cabbage, broccoli....if there's any out there!  And maybe I'll get a couple ham chops!  I like the one meat guy who comes there.

Cooper just told me he thinks it's light out there and I think he might be right!  I wish you all a great day.  Make it your own in every way!  And let us know how you did that.  We might like to try your way!

Ash Wednesday - First day of Lent - not so much giving up something this year but reading from two books each morning and the one I heard of a few years ago and finally broke down -
The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life Written by a minster who had/has a weight problem and was about to hire 3 of the top health doctors to help his congregation and the writing of the book but instead they donated their efforts including Dr. Oz

One of his 'truths' that caught my eye is that off the alter priests, ministers, rabies etc. never talk about the body which he sees as God's gift - other aspects of living are given attention but not the body and keeping healthy. So far I'm getting the impression this is more than about diet and exercise - he does say that without supportive friends a health change won't last. Making or creating a group support is being given as much importance as food choices.

Interesting and then I thought immediately of this group where we do support each other regardless of the differences in how we live our lives. We almost celebrate our differences - I'm so happy to be in these discussions and hearing the way y'all live is uplifting from snow 'dancing' to soup making and everything in between.

Hello Everyfriend!  I started this message and then I lost so I hope this one works.  When I'm finished here, I'm going to finish up a couple things and then head for the haystack.  I won't have Cooper tomorrow.  His "mommy" has the day off from work.  But I do have an electrician coming by to see why my kitchen and entry way lights go out every time I close the door over the switch box!  We shall see!

Barb, I loved what you said about supporting each other and keeping in touch.  I love this place and if I don't get in I really feel the loss.  I even include all of you in my daily prayers!

We had a very rainy day all day today and I sure hope the prediction for rain tomorrow is wrong!  At least the prediction is only 45 percent and today it was 89 percent!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day yours and do whatever pleases you best. I'll be back!  You come back, too!

Well, they changed the forecast!  The rain decided to go somewhere else and we are supposed to be getting a windy day.  I don't know when the electrician is coming but I'm ready for him whenever he shows.  I sure hope he figures out what's making my lights hide out!

I have a bunch of stuff to get done today including a casserole for supper today and some other days.  That means I'm going to NEED the kitchen lights!

I wish you all a nice day!  Make it your own in every way!  And I sure hope making it your own means sharing a bit of it with us!

Another sleepless night and another late morning. I ended up texting everyone for meet and greets and woke up with Farrah and her dish, on my stomach, staring at me. Today will be a couch potato day, as any chores can wait.

Jane, I hope your electrician showed so you were able to get things done, and I hope you and Rick have some nice weather for a change.

We didn't get any of the forecasted afternoon or overnight snow, Amy, now they're promising Thursday night into Friday snow, perhaps an inch. I hope your snow soon melt away for you.

Here's to all who stop by or look in and hoping your day is a happy, safe one!

A local woman who was obviously driving impaired on one of our busiest highways, driving at high speeds and swerving around cars, failed to stop for state troopers.

The chase finally ended when the woman fell asleep or passed out at the wheel and the car came to a stop. She was arrested for failure to yield to a peace officer and driving under the influence. She was remanded to the Matsu Pretrial Facility with no bail.

Amazing...

Patricia many people in a bad place in their lives - we are really lucky aren't we - for us life may at time be difficult but we seem to manage and go forward.

Colder than I expected yesterday and now again today - was supposed to go with my daughter-in-law to the framing store but just could not muster up the energy and my disposition is in the barn sweep - need to go double up on some vitamin B which when I'm out of sorts is usually the culprit - I could nap but I know that would be me sulking - hmm maybe a good sulk is the answer...

Hello you all! Today was a busy day!  The guy came and fixed my electric box and I have lights.  He said that if they don't stay on to give him a call and he'll be right over.  So far, so good!

I changed my plans for supper and made meat loaf, scalloped potatoes and frozen corn.  Goooooood Supper!  And it will be a good supper tomorrow, too!

I got a lot of cleaning up and putting away done and now I'm tired out and ready for the haystack.  Cooper will be here a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow so I need to get some sleep!  I don't think I'll do much tomorrow.  I deserve a day off and I plan to take it.  Cooper's care will be the only thing necessary.

Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Do whatever suits your fancy and let us know what that is.  We're curious (or do I mean "nosy"?)  Whatever it is, come back and visit!

Spring has unofficially arrived in Israel
The first flock of storks stopped at the Hula small lake (Agmon) for a night's rest. Approximately 600,000 storks will pass over the skies of Israel in the coming weeks!

BUBBLE, that sounds like a great thing to see!  I don't think I've ever seen storks flying over.  I'm just not in a place they pass over.  I don't see how you could possibly miss them if they did fly over!  Thanks for sharing that with us!

I think I'm taking the day off today.  Yesterday was a busy one and Cooper is here today so I'll just be friends with him and read the paper and loaf!  You all enjoy your day.  Do whatever suits your fancy and share it with us!  Happy Day Everyfriend!

Wind died down today - it blew hard and found any crack between doors it could blowing through the house so that I had the heat on higher than usual - today we're back to normal - not a bright sunny day but a bright day - does not look like rain cover

I'm so pleased with myself for figuring out and acting on an idea - I keep putting off the things that make life fun till I have 'everything' in its place and rooms complete - been over two years now however coming to the end - I do watch TV at night and have a channel I like with news commentators from 6: to 9: except the one that is now in the 7: spot I just do not like - talks too fast and seems to me to be full of himself plus he leads his guests to his point of view - well I hit on the perfect solution - been wanting to get back into playing the piano and so I've been lowering the sound so it cannot be heard since the piano is in the same room and I've pulled out my old piano practicing books using the hour to brush up - it is really working out - I have gone over the hour by 5 or 10 minutes but I'm OK with that - I forgot how doing something for a short time day after day actually improves your skill without attempting to be perfect on day one.

Found in my collection that I use on my desktop this bit of 'wisdom' - I needed to be reminded and hope y'all enjoy the words as well

Last summer, I had my last covid booster and a flu shot. Today I had tetanus, RSV, and a shingles shot so I can now say for the first time in years, I'm fully vaccinated which is huge for someone as needle phobic as me.

So, thanks to Amy and to Rick for the verbal pushes I needed.

And don't forget the second shingles shot, when it's due. After a year and a half I still feel the results of shingles on my shoulder. I've pretty much learned to live with it, but it still hurts at times. I'm sure age doesn't help. So --- If you haven't had your shingles shot yet, don't wait.

Rick, no one said anything about a second shot.

I just looked it up and while no one said anything to me about a second dose, it is highly recommended between two and six months after the initial shot.

I'm here to say "Good Night Everyfriend".  Cooper spent the day and will be sleeping with me tonight!  And I'm ready to hit the sack!  We had 3 walks today and spent some time out in the yard and it was WINDY out there.  The sun was out but so was the WIND!  I really do think Spring is on the way!

Daughter Cathy's birthday is Monday and I just got an invitation to go to supper with her and her husband!  That will be a nice time to spend with her!

BARB, I bet you're really enjoying the piano again!  I sometimes go back to an old habit and I wonder why I ever stopped it!  Keep on making music!

Now I'm going to finish up the chores, take Cooper out in the yard one more time and hit the hay!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow.  Don't forget to let us know how you spend your day!

Yes Jane, playing even these simply tunes is fun - something about doing something yourself that you can see the results...

Goodness Patricia that is a lot of shots - evidently no adverse reaction to any of them - good for you...

Rammel I thought that you only needed shots for shingles if you did not have Chicken Pox as a kid - are you and Patricia young enough that there was already a vaccination for chicken Pox and you both avoided it as kids and so now you are at risk for Shingles?

Jane your Cathy's birthday is Monday and my Paul and Sally's wedding anniversary is Monday. Goodness how time flies I think they will be celebrating 40 years or at lest 39 I need to check but the years fly don't they.

Barb, I was one of three, and we all had measles, chicken pox, mumps, etc., along with a few broken bones here and there as we grew. My first school was kindergarten through eighth grade, with many military kids, as there were then and now, several bases nearby.

I remember after a large flood, we went by riverboat to the school where we passed through a doorway with a medic armed with an immunization gun on each side so we could get the vaccinations in both arms as we made our way through and back to the boat.

Patricia, way to go!! Yes, shingle shot it a two shot deal but you can do it. As Rick can attest to they are painful so get protected!

Jane, Cathy's bd is on Mon and David's on Sat.

Barb, I went with a fella that could listen to a song on the radio, sit down at the piano and play it.  He also played the saxophone.

Better get this day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It was nice to come in this morning and see so many of you had posted!  I enjoyed reading everything.  ''The weather here is still in the mid thirties but that's above freezing!  And it's supposed to make it into the mid 40s later today!

AMY, you're right!  "Work around the home" never seems to end but I'm happy to have the energy to stay here and not be stuck away in some old folks home!  I do the work when I feel like it and I'll put up withe the clutter when I don't feel like it!

Also wondering how old David is?  Were we doing the same thing at the same time?  I'm thinking David is younger than Cathy because you're obviously younger than me!

BARB, Happy Anniversary to Paul and Sally!  And, yes, time does fly but I still feel great that I'm around to help my kids, grandkids and greatgrandkids celebrate!  And that I actually know what they're celebrating!

Now I'm going to go get some stuff done!  It's time for some of it and past time for others!  Now where should I start?

I wish you all a great day!  Do whatever suits your fancy!  And don't forget to let us know what that was!

Pushing 91 now. Don't recall any vaccines back then. I vaguely remember some adult often shouting "Don't scratch it" so am guessing I did have Chicken Pox.
The virus remains in your system for years (probably all your life). It can come back at you years later as SHINGLES. So in response to your thought above --- it is just the opposite of what you thought. If you had Chicken Pox, you can get SHINGLES. --- YOU DON'T  WANT TO GET SHINGLES. I can assure you of that. So many nights of little sleep because of the pain. There's med's to help, but they seemed to me to only work for a short duration. While I was able to do it not all can, but I went for half a year without a shirt on. Anything touching my skin was unbearable.

Talk to your Doc about the possibilities. Apparently, even if you've had shingles once, you can have it again.

You might check the Mayo Clinic write up on Shingles.   Just Google it

Aha - and so if you did have Chicken Pox you can get Shingles.

Ok and so you are only a year younger and yes, I too remember getting my first 'shot' actually vaccination before I entered school by going to the Fire Station where the firemen gave free vaccinations which I think was for small pox - years later I remember going to the firestation with my children for the paper cup of - now I forgot if it was liquid or a pill - but the first of the deterrents for Polio - I think it was during High School I remember again going to the fire station for a Tetanus shot but since I had whooping cough as a baby only my sister got the whooping cough vaccine.

My brother and kid sister were not born yet. I think they were the first generation, born just after the war, to get several shots before they left the hospital after birth. I also think they may have been the generation where it was more common to be born in a hospital then at home.

I hear getting the Shingles is miserable - thank goodness there are shots but it sounds like you contracted Shingles before you had your first shot - ouch... I thought it was intense itching but from what you are sharing it is intense pain and it can rear its head again - sheesh - I can see why you are an advocate of getting the shot. Thanks...

Thanks for the further information, Rick. I believe I'll go back in May to get it all done.

Today is crummy, a reaction and soreness in both arms from the shots and a large sore lump on the right arm, where I had the tetanus and shingles. But, this too shall pass.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think I'm glad I never had the reactions that you all have had!  I didn't like the shots but I guess it was good that I got them when I did!

I also don't like the time change.  I don't know why we couldn't just live with the time as it was.  It was the way things were meant to be and some people had to make changes.  I guess part of my reason for not liking the change is that I grew up in farm country closely related to farmers in my dad's family!  I heard them talking about the change and not liking it.  So I followed in their footsteps!

Cooper is here! And now he's waiting for his morning walk.  We'll do that and then I'll get my shower and get ready for church.  When I get home I'll be getting ready for a visit tomorrow from my kid sister's granddaughter.  My sister has been gone since her mid-fifties and I sort of lost contact with her family.  This young lady moved back to the area and she showed up in church a couple weeks ago and now she's coming for lunch tomorrow so we can get a bit closer.  I'm looking forward to this meeting!

I wish you all a great day!  Do your best to enjoy it!  it's yours!

Good morning

A day of rest here although I must admit I have had a couple of them already. One could get used to this ...maybe.

When I saw the scaring of my friends back from shingles, across her lower back ranging from  4 to 8 inches I then decided to get the shingle shot. I can't imangine the pain she went through. Another lady had them under her finger nails and  in her hair....so yes get the shot!!

I am with you on the time change Jane. When farming the cows didn't mind getting fed a bit early but gosh they didn't like waiting for their food or to be milked. I would try to even it out but they knew!

Better get my rear in gear..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, another day of crystalline skies and sleet, you can't count it as snow nor like rain, but neither stays long.

My right arm lost its bump, but the area is still bruised and mildly sore. I probably shouldn't have gotten so many at once but wanted it over with. Other than another shingles shot in May, or extra Covid, I should be finished.

I slept most of yesterday and forgot about the time change until this morning.  I've done meet and greets, morning routine and everyone's been fed with coffee in hand.

The only thing for today is an Amazon order, so I'm going to check out that third eaglet born yesterday and probably answer way too many emails. It's time for another slash and burn session there.

Good Morning from a (FINALLY!) sunny, warm central Oklahoma - which is "supposed" to be all this week.

I've been reading but having been posted because I usually read on my Tablet and, as a touch typist, I don't do well trying to do one letter at a time (and too lazy to come to the computer.)

Jane S, every time I read about your 4-legged Cooper, I think about my two-legged Cooper - my 10-month-old Great Grandson!  His grandparents brought him over last Sunday and we had a fine time as he explored every inch of my living room and kitchen crawling and pulling up to stand and reach things.  I'd put things away but didn't realize he's a Reacher and his arms are long.
He wasn't sure where he was or just who I am until he saw my walker. His grandparents baby-sit while his mama works and it was as if he connected with the lady who was at his grandparents' house for three days (after I'd had my hospital stay).

I watch sites for eagles but not the one "everyone" is watching. It's even been the newspaper and on newscasts.  Tried clicking on Patricia' link and it was confusing.  Is it on You Tube and do I have to subscribe?
       That's it for now.

All kinds of crazy sleeping - so tired yesterday evening I waited as long as I could and in bed by 8: then up at 10 to 1: so changed clocks and back in bed at what was then 3: up briefly at what was 8:30 and back to bed - could not stay awake and then slept through till noon which did help my dignity knowing it was really 11: - where all this need to sleep came from - it is not like I was especially busy yesterday or did anything that required any physical exertion.

Looks like the heavy rain shower yesterday brought in another cold spell - actually pleased - I love my flannel shirts and this gives me one more day to wear one of my favorite shirts. I've a collection so I can have a clean shirt each day of the week. A couple are more of a favorite than others.

Callie if you are having a warm sunny day than I bet that is what we will have tomorrow. Ha we all have a Cooper it seems - my Cooper is now 33 and living out of state in Denver - likes the terrain for running and hiking but so expensive to live there he wants back to Texas - He was taken back when he went to register his vehicle - forgot now but an astronomical amount of money.

Patricia your forgetting till today to change the clocks brought a thought to mind - really when it comes down to it - we live alone - what difference would it make - as for TV programs we should think like living back east since they are an hour ahead but everything else - oh I guess an appointment - for that it would depend upon how often we have an appointment outside the house - in my mind the trouble comes because this daylight savings is for so long - doesn't change back until November.

Looks like I need to find a movie to watch this evening - PBS is doing its donation drive for another 2 weeks so nothing on TV - hope y'all are having a nice Sunday... till later...

Barb, when we became a state in 1959, businesses wanted an easier time dealing with other businesses in the lower 48, so they petitioned for a time change. To give you an idea, The sun is supposedly directly overhead at noon. Our sun is directly overhead at three in the afternoon.

Of course in the summer we have almost 24/7 hours of daylight and in the winter, between three and four hours.

Is it normal to develop facial bruising on one side of the face two days after injections? This is on the right side where, on the right arm, I had the shingles shot.

There is a small bruise on my chin and a slightly larger one on my right top cheekbone developing in the last three hours.

I'd no falls, bumps or other explanations.

I talked to someone at the hospital's healthcare department and while they said it's more common to bruise further down the arm, she said since I'd had a hard warm bruised knot, after the vaccination, it's probably the vaccine moving through the body and shingles is a hard vaccine.

She said to move my arms more to help it travel. I've never had a reaction to shots before and believe me, I would have noticed it, sleeping or not. The under eye showed up in the morning today and the cheekbone bruise right before 2 pm this afternoon.

Good morning, eleven degrees and clear at 7:14am. Meet and greets are ongoing, coffee's brewed and Farrah's fed.

Rick, I looked on the computer re: you're saying you've heard more women than men bruising and could find no mention of either other than at site bruising and other minor symptoms lasting perhaps two days. The pharmacist said some arm bruising is more common but facial is rare, lucky me...

Amy, the cheek bruise is smaller and yellowish, but is diminishing. The chin bruise, is still reddish but also smaller. I could find no mention of facial bruising online, only onsite bruising. However, the pharmacist did know of some instances saying the vaccine is a "hard" one, whatever that means. After researching information on the web and seeing photos, I urge everyone to get the vaccine.

tra la another flannel shirt day... sun out though and that is nice - I really need to do a load of wash - just can't get going - least little thing and I get stressed - I know, I know instead of complaining do something and if there is nothing to do then pull up you big boy/girl pants and get on with it... Ok I'll get the laundry started  ::)  :nanadance2:  :cup:

I am still missing a form from the bank handling George's trust and I had to hunt for cost basis stuff for some stocks, then I have to see about getting an amended 1099 for that and then there is the worksheet for the house. Wanted to have a CPA do the taxes this year but, so far, I haven't found any that want to take on new clients.

Oscar had been sick again this afternoon.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Yesterday was such a busy day that when I got home last night and turned on the TV, I immediately went to sleep in front of it!  When I woke up I turned it off, turned off all the lights and hit the haystack.  And this morning I don't have Cooper so I'm moving slower.  When I finish here, I'm getting dressed and taking a walk!  Maybe that will get me going.

This afternoon, Cathy is picking me up and we're doing some errands.  One of them is to get my ID corrected so that I can buy an airline ticket.  I'm really not sure I want to fly any more with all the accidents that are happening.  And it crosses my mind that I wonder if there are REALLY more accidents or are we just hearing more about them with all the incoming info?

I read everything and I think all my shots are up to date.  Cathy reminds me when I need another one.  I hope you are all well.  And I hope your TEETH are fixed by now!

Oh Well....whatever!  I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forgt to share it with us!  We're nosy!

I will try to help David do household laundry today but, other than that not much going on.

Take care,  All.

Teeth tomorrow, Wednesday noonish - Sun all morning and it appears from the clear blue sky it will remain - Just ordered from Amazon all sorts of regulars like filters for the furnace and my room air filters - septic pods - elderberry tea - Hyland leg cramp tablets - large covered buttons and 4" wide buckram - drapery rod and a couple of books.

Really pleased with what I'm about to do - my bedroom not only has french doors to a small porch onto the backyard but also has 4 windows - the windows appear tight enough and do have both screens and storm windows but the french doors no matter what there is a tiny space that of course when the wind does blow brrrrr.

Had originally thought I would not need any window coverings - the sun pouring in is wonderful however this winter told a different story and so rather than a fortune on drapes - haha probably spending almost as much - anyhow found light weight queen size white quilts that I will iron on the top for a sturdier stand up top the 4" wide buckram and then just below sew on the backside every 6 to maybe 8 inches some ribbon that will be strengthened by anchoring on the front side the white covered buttons and use the ribbons to tie to the drapery rod -

Had the room painted white before I moved in and all the heavy dark wood trim also painted white - hardwood floors however, the section of floor in front of the French Doors I found a light color carpet with blues and beige's and grays almost looks splashed on - it is finally getting pulled together - last room to finish -

Last week Paul hung my mirror and a few things for my walls and I've got my chest and desk where I want them - was going to buy a comfortable chair but budget won't stretch that far - maybe next year - now to do these 2 quilts that purchased on Sale for only $29 each - the rod cost more, $33 - already found my stash of ribbon - don't think I've enough white ribbon and so I will have to decide - looks like I have light blue and I may need another roll unless I use two different widths - may just do that - need to use up the ribbon - not like I have years to save it for some unknown project. Except for attaching the ribbon and ironing on the buckram there is no other sewing - quilts are finished on all sides and by hanging them close to the ceiling on the rod there will be no hem to worry about - need to figure a tie back since I will only want them covering these doors & windows when it is cold.

Ok I'm off - need to hang and fold the laundry I finally broke down and did yesterday - no food to fix with my wonky mouth minus the temporary and so I need to use the remainder of the morning and the rest of the day... Hope it is bright and sunny where y'all are and have something you can do as the pair from Alabama says, Make something good today with what you have.

Good morning, a sunny day here, which means it will be cooler. Meet and greets went well, Farrah's fed, and I'm on my first cup of coffee, so all's well. I have errands and or appointments today, Wednesday and Thursday so it will be a busy week, mainly spent in hurry up and waiting.

With my balance issues, I like staying home, but I miss the days, I walked everywhere, and spent many long hours following nature trails, camera in hand at the wildlife refuge. It's been twelve years since my fall on that black ice that put paid to all those enjoyable long walks.

Jane how nice you have more family to get to know, and what a pleasure I know you will enjoy!

Barb, you will be busy! It sounds very lovely and feminine. I have sliding glass screened doors in my living room, facing north, with a four-foot recessed balcony. A couple of years ago, all balconies and windows were replaced, a two summer job. Tenants are not allowed to put anything in front of or over them for safety reasons. They do have vertical blinds that help some. The opposite building side receives all the sunshine and less wind.

Amy, our winter ravens are still here, they won't retreat into the mountains for another couple of months. We do have some winter birds, winter ptarmigan, grosbeaks, redpolls, magpies, chickadees, Canada jays, siskins, owls, gyrfalcons and the like.

Our summer birds won't start to return until mid to late April, depending on the weather.

Phyllis, I wouldn't mind the seventies, although that could be interesting with the snow and ice that we do have. We won't see that until May with the way the weather's going.

Good evening EVERYFRIEND 🦋

I had a lot of catching up to do and now I cannot remember half of the things I wanted to comment on.

First thing....I have had shingles on my back and arm and I cannot stress enough how important it is for anyone to get the shingles shot.  My husband did not have any of the childhood diseases and it has been an issue when our children had them if he needed to be inoculated or not.  He did get the shingles shots anyway even if he never had chickenpox.

BARB, sorry to read your temporary bridge broke eating a salad😩 I hope they got it fixed up and you are able to get by.

PATRICIA, I am not aware of anyone having the bruises you spoke of on your face.  Lucky you...NOT‼️😩 I find it concerning that they allow us to get so many different inoculations at one time....seems that is just asking for some reactions or unknown problems to one another.🤷🤷  Hope by now you are doing fine😘

Our #4 son, wife and doodle dog has just moved to Phoenix. We went down last week to help him move a few things in.  We love his new home and enjoyed a nice swim in the pool that he kindly heated the water for us.  We are looking forward to many more fun times there together.

So nice to see many of the nice posts from all of you.

Take care and have a good night of rest.

Hello Everyfriend!  It's time for me to hit the hay!  I just can't get used to this time change!  It always takes me a couple of weeks to work my way into it.  And having Cooper come at 6 in the morning isn't the best thing in the world to be happening at this time.  But it will be happening tomorrow!

DENVER, it sounds like you had a fun day with your family.  It also sounds like they will be close enough that you can do it again!

Cathy and I went to the store and did a bit of shopping today and tomorrow will be a coooking day and also a dr. visit in the afternoon!  There's always something.  And right now, I can't keep my eyes open so I'm going to give up and hit the hay.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow.  May it your own in Every way.

Good Morning to me and anyone else who shows up!  I'm off to take Cooper for a walk as soon as it's light enought (about 15 minutes) and then back to get a shower and get ready for a trip to the dr.
This day is pretty well planned ahead!  We'll probably make it back from the dr. just about in time to say "goodbye to Cooper for the day.

CALLIE, I bet my calling the doggie by name really grabs you!  If I had a child around by that name, it sure would grab me!

I'm going to go get ready for our walk.  The sky is getting lighter and should be light enough by the time we're ready to go out.  However, it's not taking as long to get ready on these couple of warm days.  I don't have to have so may layers of clothes on my body and Cooper (the dog) doesn't need his coat.  I wish you all a great day!

Good morning..

A bit chilly this morning with a temp of 17°. Yesterday was so nice out a lot of snow said good bye, bare ground in places  is peeking through. When out cleaning the backyard I could hear red winged black birds! Still a lot of snow to disappear but if we get nice days like yesterday it won't be long it will be gone. I would think the sap is going to start to run also!

Catch up on work around home..I had phoned the oil company to get our tank filled and in less than an hour they were here!! I said to the young man gosh that is good service!! He said he happened to be just down the road.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good late morning, I had an appointment yesterday and a very early one this morning, plus another earlier one tomorrow, so I haven't done any other things to post about. I did oven bake five large chicken beast/rib combos on Monday night, so won't have to mess with any meal prep other than adding sides for the week.

Meet and greets, coffee made, morning routine done and Farrah fed, so the rest of my day is free to see what's on the Internet today. The weather in the US looks awful, I hope everyone stays safe and well. Amy, I'm including you in those wishes with the Canadian forecast!

Jenny, It takes time to make up my mind but once it's done, I tend to take action and so getting those four shots over and done worked for me. Now I only have one left, a second shingles vaccination in late May.

At the Dentist for my permanent bridge - Amy I shared with the Dentist your quip about eating a crunchy salad - of course he and his nurse had a good laugh...

Yep Rammel like you, it is Warm and balmy here however, 40 for us would be a down right cold front ;) - supposed to stay sunny and warm all week - a flock of some kind of small bird came through here yesterday - they were hopping and skittering over the front driveway and lawn for nearly an hour before they reassembled and swooped off. Haven't found my binoculars yet to get a better look but I learned the hard way some birds take on a much darker coloring when they migrate.

One thing for certain and they don't migrate - the ants are all over the place - no matter what I pickup in the yard there is a pile of ants scooting here, there, thither and yon. Found a couple of fire ant mounds - thank goodness I still have a half sack full of fire ant granules to sprinkle on the mound.

Jane it sounds like Cooper keeps you in good condition with all the walks you take together. Great idea Patricia cooking several 'meat' meals at one time - I've only done that when I cook a whole chicken - need to take a page out of your book and cook other meals with enough servings to package up for a week.

Tra La only 2 more weeks and Baseball... so many new players this year it will take awhile to settle in but the sounds of Baseball will soon be heard all over my house...

Good Afternoon.

I put a pork loin in the slow cooker yesterday and it was sliced, spaced in a gallon ZipLok bag and frozen.  That will make me 6 or 8 meals - with "go withs".  I also make casseroles (chicken/StoveTop dressing and my Mother's "Quick Spaghetti", for instance) and freeze them in individual ramekins.

I've been using Bob Evans "instant" mashed potatoes and just discovered they now come in individual servings - two to a package.

;) thinking about my Cooper when Janie mentions hers.  I never imagined "Cooper" being chosen as the great-grandson's name!  He's the 3rd generation to have his initials and the 5th generation to have his middle and last name - although my late husband was the only one called by the middle name.

Did one useful thing today - a load of laundry.  Drier is "yoo-hooing" and I need to pay attention - so I won't have to iron! LOL

Hope Everyone is having an Enjoyable Day.

Yes, RICK, Cooper loves being out and I have a fenced yard that he can go out in any time he pleases.  On a nice day when he's here, he spends hours in the yard!

He'll be along any minute so this is going to be a shortie!  Frankie always gives me a call when she's in the car on the way here in the morning and I'm expecting it any minute so I wish you all a great day and I'll try to come back later and see what's happening!

Good morning.

Temp is 9°  and we will only get up to 46° today. Saw some geese yesterday and they will have a time finding open water, most of the lakes are still frozen over wih just a few with slivers of open water.

Callie, what is "quick spaghetti" ?

Barb, are these granuales taken back into the nest and kill the fire ants?

Patricia, we do have ravens here, they are not as friendly as the crows though. They have come to eat but only when they see some food when they fly over. The one crow we have wintered really well..think he will be called Checkers.....as in Chubby Checkers :)) Or maybe Domino as in Fats Domino :))

Better get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Yes Amy, forgot what they are called or the brand but boy do they work and it only takes about a teaspoon full - I swear my backyard is convention city for every known ant to send their rep. - big ones, tiny ones, red ones, huge black ones on and on... Can't go digging in the earth without wearing some kind of glove or you are stung and bitten in less than a minute. I just keep getting new and what is supposed to be better ant killer but the fire ants are a species all to themselves - can't stop them from visiting but sure stop them from leaving or turning the yard into one huge tan colored mound.

Warm but with the fan coming on intermittently circulating the air I've not had to turn on the AC... kaching kaching racking up the dollars

Paul and Sally will be by later and we will get a few things done in the yard - depending on the walker now makes it hard to wrestle with yard equipment. Actually most of these yard jobs are being seen to late this year - here it is mid March and finally the redbud is in bloom which usually happens mid February. It sounds like from what you are saying Amy winter hung on longer where you are also.

Jane sounds like Cooper will have both mama's giving him attention today -you and Frankie.

Till later...

We had warnings about fire ants a few years ago but they aren't a huge problem..so far.  We have a lot of insects though, and they are showing up now that the weather is warming.
But, the copperhead snakes will show up soon, as well.  They love to cluster around the warm brick steps and the concrete driveway near my side door.  The daffodils and early pear trees are blooming.  My attic fan came on, too, but I hope that the AC will hold off for awhile.  Like the rest of the country our utility bills are crazy high and the AC eats up the electricity like crazy.

Jane, you could call your little fur buddy Cooper×4 to differentiate him from Callie's Cooper×2.

Take care, All.

Good mostly cloudy late morning. Morning routines, meet and greets, everyone fed and errands out done for the day. I am thinking of going back out to pick up a couple of things, but that can wait until tomorrow.

It's funny about Cooper being a human, as well as the dog's name. We have two hand-me-down named family members named Flynn and one Finnegan in the family, and it hadn't occurred to me until it was mentioned here, but my sister's recent rescue was also named Flynn. I emailed her, and she sent back a laughing emoji.

There is one large Alaskan advantage to our cold winter weather. We don't have many nasty critters or poisonous plants. We only have carpenter ants, but they are destructive if not planned for. And we are the only US state with no termites. Coyotes made it almost to the Interior, but our local wolves put a stop to that, and they're evidently retreating. There are no snakes other than those brought in by hobbyists and caged.

Even rabies, while sometimes seen in the SE, is rare if non-existent in the Interior.

Cons, are that we have grizzlies, Kodiak brown bears, polar bears, and black bears. Plus, with climate change and lack of sea ice, polar bears are drifting south and cross-mating with grizzlies. Two of the strongest and dangerous bear types mating and forming a hybrid, a prizzly, if you will, now seen in both Canada's northern reaches and in Northern Alaska.

I read all to posts and found them all very interesting.  I would rather not know about bugs but they are there...darn it!  And they even manage to get in the house!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  Cooper Doggie will be arriving a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow morning and I need to eat breakfast before he gets here or I'll have a beggar at my elbow.  At this one isn't a quiet beggar!  So I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  Today was a beautiful day!  We didn't even need coats most of the day.  I hope tomorrow is the same!

Right now the temp is 34 degrees heading for a high in the low 60s this afternoon!  It sure does sound like Spring weather with overnight lows in the mid 30s and highs anywhere from the 50s to the the low 70s.  I think we can safely say "SPRING is here!"

I'm watching for daylight so Cooper Doggie and I can go for our first walk of the day!  I wish you all a pleasant day.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to tell us how you did that!  We might want to try your way!

Good morning..

Another chilly start to the day,not sure we will see sun today but at least we won't see snow!

Yesterday was productive, fixed Hank (vacuum) and made 46 buttertarts to be given away.Laundry today ,take garbage away and pick up meds and I just may sew!

Speaking of Coopers, I went to school with a fellow whose last name is Cooper..

Phyllis, copperheads :yikes:  I would be finding another way to go out.

Thanks Barb, I had to look up fire ants ,apparently they are in the southern part of this province.

Jane, I wish Spring was here but we still have about 2 feet of snow to go. I did pick up vegetable seeds the other day. Looking forward to playing in the dirt!

Patricia, although we didn't see a lot of Alaska   what we did see was beautiful! I loved the mountains..poor Kyle had to keep his eyes on the road and didn't get to enjoy as much as I did.

MG, how is Oscar?

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, another sunny, windy day. Meet and greets are done with a few small colds reported, Farrah's fed and morning routine is finished too. I do have to go out midday for the few items I forgot earlier and one or two I added to the list. I do have an order coming in tomorrow, and the weekend looks busy as I'm on call for a couple of neighbor's packages.

We evidently have quite a brouhaha outside, with several police sirens and a train coming down the line.

We won't see any real signs of Spring until mid-April. March is traditionally winter's last gasp, with animals and birds beginning to show up. Several thousand birds pass through or spend time nesting at the wildlife refuge here. From the website, "Each year, we capture and band as many as 3,000 birds at CFMS." According to their website, "a mosaic of forests, wetlands, and fields supplies wildlife with a wide variety of food resources, shelter, and nesting sites. These different habitats provide homes for a diversity of animals on the refuge." They have three public viewing areas and each sprig they spread grain over those fields for the birds coming in from Asia, South America and Africa, to feed on their way though or to nest for the summer.

Amy, while we don't have the raw beauty of the Southeast with their mountain proximity and fjords, we are in a plain surrounded by three mountain ranges and four sets of foothills. Mt. Denali, the second-tallest mountain in the world next to Everest, is just under one hundred miles from here.

Phyllis said Jane, you could call your little fur buddy Cooper×4 to differentiate him from Callie's Cooper×2.
Actually, my Cooper is "4" because he's still crawling!  (I don't really mind her talking about Cooper Doggie  :) )

Patricia, didn't we try to meet when I was in Fairbanks on an Alaska tour?    I remember seeing the midnight sun in Fairbanks and seeing the 5 major animals when we were at Denali. We were watching a grizzly mom leading three cubs across a mountain when the tour guide said "Shh. There's a grizzly going by the bus".  I was sitting at the back and have a good picture of a "bare behind",   ;D

Amy, my Mother's "Quick Spaghetti" is ground beef, a can of spaghetti, a can of tomato sauce and a package of spaghetti dry sauce mix.  Brown the beef, add the other ingredients and stir.  Let simmer while you fix the rest of the meal.
It's one of the things I taught my sons to make when they were teens.  The other one was frozen fish sticks and a box of macaroni/cheese mix.
Now, they are both master cooks and oldest bakes bread and youngest makes up his own recipes.

Oklahoma is WINDY today and sky is dusty.  There are several wildfires around the state.  I'm "in for the duration"

Callie, I don't recall if we had plans to meet or not. My memory is not as good as it used to be. I knew Karren because she lived here for some time before moving closer to family in New Jersey. I met MaryAnn briefly when she and a friend were here. I was cutting fabric at Walmart, and they were able to briefly stop in. I also met Johann and Windell for lunch at their hotel when they were in town.

Besides those and MaryPage, and Bubble who I've known for years, I also corresponded regularly with Rae, Adrienne, Gloria, and Deangel, Larry Hanna, and Bunny, Gladys, Glenn, and Jerry, and Norm, PJ, Halkel and Jack.

I miss those days.

Well, I read everything, including the ideas that I could use on Cooper Doggie and I tried the names directly on him and he ignored me.  I have called him Cooper Doggie and Cooper Snoop for years though and he answers to both of those.  So I think I'll stick with them.

He doesn't come tomorrow because his mommy is off but my cleaning lady and her one or two helpers do come tomorrow.  That works out well.  No doggie to snoop around to see what they're doing and I can keep out of their way!

CALLIE, all my kids (including my son) have turned out to be good cooks.  I think my son learned from my father that men are allowed to be good cooks because he sure didn't learn it from his father's side of the family.  My husband's mother was born in this country but her mother was an immigrant and she didn't think men belonged in the kitchen and she passed that on to her children.

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!

Finally! I tried to post earlier, but the darn thing would not allow it.

Amy, Oscar is doing okay today. He has an appointment at the vet on Monday, even so. I did discover that I had pills the vet gave me for him back in October. After several tries, I gave up trying to get him to swallow them. They need taken once a day. Well yesterday, after talking to the gal at the Vet's office, I rediscovered the pills and actually got him to swallow one. He didn't spit it back up. A good thing, since the vet had said that some cats can't tolerate it.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My cleaning ladies are here and I might have to move out of their way!  Bear with me.  If I do move, I'll be back after they go!  No Cooper Doggie today!  That's good because he would be right on their heels and that would be annoying.

I need some cough tea but that will have to wait until they leave! I wish you all a great day.  Do whatever suits your fancy!  And don't forget to share it with us.  We're the inquisitive type!  Is that just another word for "nosy"?

Giving a pill to a cat was always a challenge. Took me quite a while to figure out how to do it - very similar to Dr Pol. Around here Dr Pol had a TV show which was always interesting to watch. Our cat didn't like peas and whenever he had something with peas in it, there would be peas left in his dish when he finished.

Good morning, another chill but sunny day, as was yesterday. Most of our snow has turned to ice on the roads and walkways. I've been over to one of my email accounts, clearing out older emails addys unneeded or long past.

There were so many from here and from Thirdage that triggered so many memories, Ginny, Rae, Adrienne, EttaSue, Bunny, Shirley, Oscar, Bill, Jerry and Hal to name a few. I did save the entire list to a CVS file before deleting, just in case.

MG, it's nice that Oscar is responding to the pills. Farrah at twelve, she'll be 13 in September, has become sweeter and more affectionate, even staying out, if close by me if a female is in the apartment. Males she still hides from, as it was probable her abuser was male. I've had her for nine years.

Jane, most of the guys in my family can cook, but most don't want to. My father was a wonderful baker, but rarely did so. My mother had the house in charge while my dad had the outside in his domain, and we three girls were the sometimes unwilling labor force.

Amy, I'll settle the cat or dog close, open mouth, insert pill, close mouth, hold and rub the throat until the animal swallows. Then check if pill is gone. It may sound mean, nowadays, but it's efficient. Both of my parents had dogs, mom had Pomeranians and my dad had a sideline of training or retraining peoples hunting or bird dogs. That's where I got the method.

Jane, I'll usually have some Hall's lozenges on hand for coughs or dry throat, mainly in the winter and very dry air.

Rick, I have enough trouble getting Farrah to eat her own cat food. She will look if I offer her a bite of mine, but then she gives me a look, like "you're eating that?!" 🙀

She always has dry food and fresh water availble  and a couple of tablespoons of canned throughout the day. She's very particular, one day she wants fish and the next only chicken or beef in her canned food and absolutly no shredded food.

Yes they do!

I went and looked at Dr. Pol's video, and it was the same as my method, except for blowing in their face.

I bookmarked it because I had never heard of him before.

Good Afternoon,

We had a "cockapoodle" and he would take a pill if it was mixed with vegetable soup!

Looks as if our weather has moved on east. Yesterday was weird!  Over a hundred wildfires across the state.  Norman and Stillwater areas (homes of major universities) caught the brunt of it.  Closest to my neighborhood was about 5 miles away along a railroad track. Local firefighters put it out. Neighborhoods family live in weren't affected, although oldest son turned on his lawn sprinklers...just in case.
Sky was orange - a combination of dust and 85 mph winds.  Today is cloudy gray and no wind.

I intended to spend the day as a Recliner Radish (cousin to a Couch Potato  ;D ) but I keep finding things that need to be done. Oh, well  ::)

Wishing Everyfriend a Safe Day  :smitten:

Well, I spent most of the morning in my office and I started to clean out papers that were past the point of keeping.  I have a whole can of shredded outdated papers and another half wastecan full of stuff that doesn't need shredded and another pile that does need shredded that I didn't make it through!

The ladies did a great job of cleaning and I enjoyed it after they left.  Also did my couple of walks and got some of my footsteps in.  And now I'm ready to throw in the towel and get some rest!  When I finish here, I'm off to the haystack.

I read all the writings and I liked my answers and I liked all the things you are all up to.  I don't need to know how to get meds in cats but my doggies always ate the treat that I stuffed theirs in!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow.  My plan is to finish destroying the papers and get rid of the trash.  We shall see!

Good morning, everyone!

It looks like we will be getting rain starting around noonish and going on into the night. I'll have to make sure I get my recycle stuff up to the bin this morning before it starts.

Oscar spit his pill out three times last night before he finally held it in his mouth long enough for me to think he swallowed it, took off and spit it out on the floor. I gave up. I'll try maybe about mid-morning, before lunch.

Still have not seen the "lawn ornaments" in the grass patch behind the apartment. I'd have thought the groundhog would be out by now, but maybe not. And, I have not spotted the cat(s) along the edge of the woods, except for twice last month. My computer screen, however, has attracted a tiny flying critter, so it is now time to be on the lookout for ants, etc. Another season of battling bugs is revving up.

Shan is getting a new toy today. It is one of those laser contraptions that moves the laser beam about so I don't have to. I believe it has a motion sensor and it shuts off automatically after 5 or 10 minutes to conserve battery power. Uses rechargeable batteries.

Good morning...

Raining here and it sure punched the snow down! Woke to clocks flashing so a quick power outage must have happened during the night.

A day of rest here...got to love those!

I once had to give my horse meds by mouth, she had some and I wore a lot. Vet gave a gallon of Pepto Bismol , let me tell you pink is not my colour!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

MarsGal - I found that when I gave our cat a pill, after I popped it in his mouth I would hold his mouth closed till he stuck his tongue out. At that point it seems he must have swallowed the pill. I did put the pill as far back as I could (quick and get my fingers out).

Good Afternoon Everyfriend!  I was up early and had breakfast, took a shower and got dressed for church to be there at 10 this morning!  I was in plenty of time and I enjoyed the service!  And now I'm home with no visiting doggie to keep me busy.  What should I do!

I think I'll just take the day off and loaf...maybe nap, take a walk, clean up something that needs cleaning up.  I like my first idea best today!  I wish you all a loafing day.  Do whatever feels best to you!  Today is yours, mine and everyone's!

Good morning, everything's quiet today, nothing happening other than an Amazon order due today. Friday, I went out shopping for a few forgotten items and ended up spending more than I had originally spent.

Yesterday, I spent some time cleaning out old email addresses and finding so many old friends long gone now. I saved them all in a CVS file before deleting. It brought back so many memories.

Morning routine and meet and greets long finished, and I'm on another cup of coffee, after this I plan on spending some time on the web and a little time unfortunately spent on wiping down kitchen cupboards and floor, one of my least favorite jobs.

It's chilly today, ten presently with a high of only 18. However, Wednesday we'll be firmly back into the thirties and forties. No real snow anymore, and what there is has been rained on and warmed up and refroze so much that it's just sheets of ice out there.

Late afternoon and could hardly stay awake all day since the pollen is so thick my herbal mixes are not up to it... Hate taking over the counter since there is so much junk that yes, keeps you awake but what other damage is it doing. 'Just like that' as the saying goes on Friday everything turned green - leaves popped, grass for sure ready for St. Patty's - hmm wonder if the parade in NY will be on TV

Must share found a wonderful sweet snack without being unhealthy - Wow does Häagen-Dozs coffee yogurt taste like the treat of the year... Purchased 3 of them so I can have one every other day till next week with my next order --- I know I know this is Lent and I should not be treating myself but if I have to go to purgatory over coffee flavored yogurt then God has not thought it through for the good tasting yogurt 'He' gave someone the inspiration to make. ::)  ;)

Good heavens! We have a tornado watch going on in Cumberland County. Hail report in the western part of the county. We are to see the first of the rain in about a half an hour. Normally, any tornado threats general go south and east of us. I wonder if Shan will go hide under the bed when/if we get thunder since he no longer has the top of the basement stairs to hide.

Tried that Rick. The little stinker held the pill in his mouth for must have been have been a half a minute at least on my last try the last try. After I thought he had swallowed it, he jumped down and didn't spit it out until he was well away from me. It took me a bit to find it and pitch it out.

Well, it started to rain hard when the friends who brought me home from church just about got to the corner 2 houses up from mine!  And it's been coming down ever since.   We didn't get anything dangerous but I didn't go out walking in it either!

And now I'm just about to hit the haystack because Cooper will be arriving in the morning about 10 minutes before 6 a.m.  And he'll be ready for his breakfast and his first walk as soon as it's light enough!

I hope you all had a pleasant day and that you didn't get any of the BAD weather.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow!  Do whatever pleases you best!  But don't forget to share your day with us!

Well, it looks like we will be out of the heavy rain zone by midnight. The worst of the storm is, just now (10pm), in a diagonal line north and east of us, and pretty much continuing to head north and east. I heard one thunder clap and saw maybe two lightning flashes. Shan heard the thunder, got a bit confused, jumped up into his favorite chair, and looked a bit puzzled. The soundproofing in this place is super.

It is soon time for lights out. But first, I want trying to stuff a pill into Oscar. I forgot earlier and fed him some treats or I would have tried earlier.

Shan's new toy came today. Tomorrow I will unbox it and charge it up. More adventures to come tomorrow.  :cat:

Good morning..

Snow has gone down considerably ,we did get a light dusting overnight making walking treacherous.
Have a soup rooster to cook and while he is simmering in the pot will wash floors.
MG, happy to read that you did get the tornado in your area. Jane told me about Rescue Remedy  as Babe did not like storms either. Just make sure you get the pet one (has a paw print on the box) as the humane one has alcohol in it.

Patrica, with all the rain we have have puddles are now little skating rinks under foot only now it is a guessing game as to where they are. Just hope we do see sun and the little snow that fell lastnight meltsand we can see them.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

I almost forgot it was St. Patrick's Day today but it came up on my phone first thing this morning.  My granddaughter wished it to me!  I don't know if St. PAT would approve but I spent most of the day doing laundry.  I had already started to sort it last week when Cathy reminded me that the cleaning lady would be here at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.  So it all went back in the basket and waited for another day!  And that day was today.  And I did 8 loads today and it just now crossed my mind that I didn't do the towels!  Rats!  I have to do them tomorrow.  I'm NOT doing them now!

Breakfast was early this morning.  I always try to eat it before Cooper gets here and then lunch is a bit early too because I get hungry.  And now I'm on the way to getting hungry for supper but I'm forcing myself to wait until 5 o'clock!

It sounds like all of you had a a busy day and it also sounds like the snow stayed north of the border.  AMY, didn't I tell you to chase it North of you?  I think we all had enough of that stuff this year!

I think I'm going to go in an flop on the couch and see if some of this day's work will drain out of me.  I wish you all a good rest of the day!  Do whatever suits your fancy!  This time is yours!

Patricia nice article - Ants in my area and I cannot speak for all of Houston but my experience is the only ants that try to invade the house are the fire ants - they will find any crevice in the foundation and attempt to enter where the upright 2X4s meet the plate especially near a water pipe and work themselves under the wall and baseboard - the rest of them are happy as can be in the out of doors -

Patricia none of these suggestions are going to kill or persuade a fire ant from living a long a fruitful life or entering any place on God's earth it desires to enter. And if there is very heavy rain the entire colony floats together keeping house the entire time till they land in a new spot and without skipping a beat sets up their new underground house.

Before my son found the magical granules that they bring back to their nest and it wipes them out I tried boiling water which was pretty affective except a few always got away and of course immediately set up house in a new location.

As to inside bugs my nemesis are spiders - mostly itsy bitsy tiny spiders that bite leaving a fierce venom that seesaws back and forth between itching like crazy and turning the area numb for at least a week - sometimes large wolf spiders but rarely - last year I think I experienced one wolf spider in the cupboard under the bathroom sink.

In fact stupid - did not think - just an hour ago I saw a tiny spider on the edge of the bathtub and squashed it with my thumb - mistake - no bite hole but it left enough venom that my thumb is pins and needles that you know it will go numb and probably will have a bout of itching as well... sheesh

Our lots are all about an acre and the one next to me is vacant or rather I should say the home to a large family of squirrels who use my mostly front yard as their playground and my backyard as their pantry since there is an Oak back there that drops acorns - to assure there is no cranny they can enter my attic or garage the upshot is no wildlife can get in - there are enough hawks etc in the area that seem to enjoy dining on things like rats, mice, snakes etc. and so they are all taking care of themselves except for the tiniest of spiders, several kinds, and the Genghis Khan of ants the fire ant.

Barb, you must have been the one I was thinking of when I saw the article today. There are no fire ants in the state. In fact, we only have carpenter ants, (no termites), that are bad enough.

Our mosquitos are large enough that we semi-jokingly call them our state bird, and souvenir shops sell tiny leg hold traps for tourists. Many pests cannot overwinter because of our winters, and our other pests are tiny biting noseeums. Plus, we don't have poison ivy or poison oak for probably the same reasons.

Good morning..

Off to the city this morning, neighbours are spoiling Jesse  and he loves that!

Snow has really taken a beating

Yesterday one of our neighbours was out tryin g to put a hose/pipe out for the sump pump and fell. We stopped  and tone neighbour had already called the ambulance and all she was concerned about was starting her sump pump! Never mind the broken hip she thought she had! With her instructions I went in the house and hooked up the sump pump for her. She is 80+ but still cleans her driveway of snow but after the melt the ice on the driveway was her downfall.

All loaded and ready to go ,wheelchair as the long walk in the hospital is a wee bit too much and will talk the walker for short walks..Dairy Queen

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

[/b]Good Morning Everyfriend!  AMY, I'm sorry to hear your neighbor fell!  I hope she has a rapid recovery and I hope they discover that nothing is really broken.  A hard bump is bad enough!

Cooper has arrived.  We took our walk and he ate his breakfast and now he's curled up on the couch and resting up for another walk!

Cathy called and is going to take me to the grocery store sometime today.  She didn't set a time but my guess is after lunch.  They had a major gathering at their house yesterday and she's resting up from that.

I'm just resting up!  8 loads of laundry, washed, dried, folded and put away including changing the bed in the process took it's toll yesterday!  I was just going to take today off and enjoy it with Cooper but when Cathy mentions grocery store and I have a list, I jump at the chance!

I wish you all a great day!  Do anything you please and don't forget to tell us what that was!  We're very interested...or is that word "nosy"?

Not a cloud in the sky...just beautful Carolina blue skies and a bright warm sun.  Birds are twittering.
There are purple violets all over my front lawn and the perrywinkle is blooming and spreading near the holly hedge,
The clover is green and thick but won't bloom until late April or early May.  When I stopped the lawn company from using weed killer and fertilizer and David just spread clover seed this is what I was hoping for.  The yellow dandelions are beginning to bloom and I am waiting for the wild strawberry to appear and the chickweed and wood sorrel is thick and full of tiny, tiny white blooms.  Mother Nature is a better lawn designer than any company I have ever seen.
Already the birds and insects are coming back and butterflies should come along soon. I cannot go out and walk around and smell or feel the warmth of the sun but I am warmed by the sight of Spring when I sit and look out my window.

Take care, All.

Good late morning, I went out to breakfast with friends so that and morning routine, feeding Farrah, and other items have me late to the computer this morning.

Amy, I too am sorry about your neighbor, I hope she recovers swiftly and easily. I'm glad you and Kyle were there to help. It's nice to hear about neighbors still helping neighbors in this time of greed and uncertainty.

Jane, enjoy your grocery trip, which I'm sure you've had by now. Sometimes I wish for a mini Cooper to have for a time and then give back. Yesterday, I held Lacy, a Maltese, for a neighbor while she got something from her apartment.

Lacy was fine the first few moments, then she started looking around for her owner and started whimpering and trying to get away. I was crushed, and we were both glad to see her owner's return.

It's nice to see everyone enjoying spring and the return of birds and animals. Phyllis, your description makes me so jealous as we're still in an icy grip.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Yesterday was such a busy day that I was worn out when it got to be 5 o'clock!  I was sitting on the sofa and thinking how hungry I was getting for supper and I didn't even feel like getting up to go get it.  Then I remembered there was a dinner in the fridge that only needed warmed up so I forced myself to go warm it and after I ate, all I wanted to do was hop in bed.  I did some odds and ends and I was ready to crawl in a bit before 8:30.  That's early for me!  But it worked!  I feel better today!

I wish you all the best of days!  Make it your own in every way!  And come by and tell us what it was that occupied your time.  We need to know!

Hello, another late morning for me. I slept in, and then morning routines kept me busy until now. I hope everyone, their friends and their neighbors are doing well today.

Amy, I'm not fond of accounts in general, even mine in particular, but my accountant does a very good job, so I leave the hurdles to him.

Our weather is basically the same as yesterday, icy with periods of clouds and sunshine.

I've discovered a new obsession that I like in the mornings to wake me up. It's similar to a crossword with a series of numbers in sets of three to sets of ten, with the odd letter thrown in. Since I prefer ink to pencil, a lot of my earlier games and some now are heavily redacted.

I've discovered a way to avoid losing my posts. I open a second page for my post, while keeping the original to look back on and reply to. When I've finished and checked the original page to see if I missed anything, I then can post my reply on the second page, close it and my reply shows on the first, original page.

I hope everyone has been to photos to see the lovely flowers Bubble has posted from Jerusalem.

Rick, that happens, for us, in April and May. We're still in ice.

Jane, I've had the opposite, leaving me to either sleep in or take a cold shower to get me going. I can't use sleeping pills as they have the opposite effect for me.

It was such a lovely day till this evening when a cold wind blew in just as I was wrestling with the behemoth garbage pail putting in the middle of my driveway where they now come and get it so I don't have to get it to the curb - what a help that is - getting it there was no problem - coming all the way back without a walker was - now I only have a short distance to maneuver on my own... and the big gift they decided not to charge me extra for the service -  tra la... anyhow went out in my short sleeve Tshirt and brrr...

So pleased with my purchase - Amazon had clothespin sacks on sale for $4 something and so I purchased 3 of them - one for clothespins - one of the next projects is to get a washline in back so if nothing else I can air quilts etc. - then I put one in the closet I'm using to store my vacuum and cleaning supplies to keep the dust and wax rags and the third, I've put in the closet in what I call my 'doing' room to keep odd bits of ribbon and bows rather than a wire drawer that could be used for other storage.

Wanted to watch the news on TV and of course snug under my throw and fell asleep so now I'm wide awake - well I owe a letter to my cousin and that is what I'll do - she does not do anything on a computer which in one way is a pain but in another it keeps my hand in practice to hand write letters.

Appears some of you are "abroad afar into the land of nod..."

OH look an illustrated copy using typical artwork of the late 1800s

Good morning..

Our temp this morning ais 50° at the moment and we are in for rain. Our snow is going and this rain dhould make it almost disappear!

Had a great time yesterday, met new accountant and really liked them, then went to a store that had past hands and really liked the new owners. She is going to carry on with fabric as she is also a quilter so a win win day yesterday. Plus I found a new purse!!  I am fussy on purses they have to have compartments and room to carry "stuff".

Busy again today with errands and making dog food.

No crocus peeking here..that would be so nice to see Rick.

Patricia, when we were in business we had a dandy accountant but he has retired...I liked this one so we shall see how it goes.

Jane I am finding I am in my pj's as early as I can  ,depends on the day 4 pm just might be a good time . :))

Barb, we have wheels on our garbage cans.....maybe your son could put some on yours and make it easier for you.

MG... no need to worry about it until you hear the damage of the accountant. I know easier said than done.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "Good Morning, BARB!  You started my day off great!  I'm a long-time Robert Louis Stevenson fan!  I think the first poem I learned to say aloud when I was little was written by him and I've been a fan ever since!

I watching for sunrise so Cooper and I can take our first walk and it looks like it might be coming out!  He'll be at the doorway to my office any minute to tell me it's time!  I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to let us know how you did that!  It makes our day!!!

Amy thanks for the suggestion however, the bin does have wheels - It is just so big and to get it going I have to push that bottom axel much like years back pushing the baby carriage up over a curb. However the bins are the property of the waste company and so no fiddling - it is just that within the past 2 years, my legs have done a number on me - between sciatica, and arthritis settling in on one knee and the other hip even Virgil Cane (my walking stick) is no longer enough and so anything requiring walking, pushing, dragging, sweeping, raking, cultivating, pulling is a struggle - can no longer get up either from a kneeling much less squatting position - some things I continue to attempt on my own so that I am independent but it is a struggle.

The Robert Lewis Stevens that I remember most was 'The Land of Counterpane' - as a kid I was sick a lot and back then there was no real medicine so I was in bed and little lead farm people were all the rage - a takeoff from the lead soldiers - I had cows, and chickens and horses, and trees and of course the farmer and his wife - Mom made me a pond using the back of a cardboard box that we colored with a blue crayon so that with my knees up at different heights under the blanket I was able to create a whole panorama of a 'working' farm.

I received for Christmas one year an illustrated copy of poems by Robert Lewis Stevens and that one caught my attention. There was another but don't remember the name of it that had something to do with going to bed when it was still daylight... Something very comforting about re-reading children's books - there are many that were written after I was a child that I never read like Charlotte's Web Reading it now - Charlotte was quite the wordsmith wasn't she...

Here I thought we were finished with the cold but oh no - warmed up this afternoon but still trying to warm up this house - put off turning on the heat till noon and then only barely but I need to go in there and crank that thermostat up so I can sit and watch TV tonight. PBS is finally showing its usual Thursday night lineup of Brit Coms.

Patricia I love the photos but everytime I look at those birds knowing they are out there in all that cold I shrink in and everytime I actually say aloud thank God I have a nice warm cozy house and bed.

Hope y'all have a cozy evening planned - till later...

Good morning..

We did have a bit of snow last night, just a light dusting that the sun will take care of.

Picking up some groceries then home to do work that got left undone yesterday. Friend stopped in and  we had a good visit.

Saw my first robins yesterday!! I noticed that the worms are surfacing so they will havesomething to eat. The crab apple tree is as well as the Mountain Ash so no berries there for them.

I would really like to put away the shovels and snowblower and get my summer tires on but March can be tricky..

Barb, sometimes pulling is easier than pushing, try that next time.

Enjoy your day and stay  safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I didn't manage to stop by on my way to the haystack last night.  I fell asleep in front of the TV at least twice and then decided it was time to give up and head back the hall!

BARB, that poet's last name is "Stevenson".  He was always one of my favorites and the poem you mentioned starts...

In winter I get up at night,
And dress by yellow candle light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day!

He's always been one of my favorites!

Today is a "what shall I do" day!  Frankie has the day off so I don't have Cooper Doggie!  Although, she did say she might be over this afternoon to give him a bath.  All she has in her apartment is a shower and it's impossible to keep in it so she uses my bathtub!

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to tell us how you did that.  We're the nosy type!

Good morning, still, locally, in that icy grip with sheets of ice for walkways and roads. Temperatures will remain in the thirties for highs until April, with highs of forties and fifties. Basically, March has remained in the same temperature range and not the usual warmer, snowy one.

hmm Amy I'll try that - pulling hmm thinking on it that makes sense - we shall see

I'm smiling because you Amy saw your first Robin and most of the morning I've been following the antics of two Robins courting under the trees in the front yard... she scoots along for a few yards and he skitters behind till there is about 5 feet between them and this scooting and skittering has been going on for hours - another smaller Robin tried to get in on it but without any movement in his  direction he soon gave up - I'm assuming a 'he' since he was horning in on the skittering.

OH wow Jane you found the poem --- yes, just as I remember it... and yes, Stevenson

My body must know it is Spring even if it got cold again - sun as bright as can be - sky blue blue blue but sheesh temps are down and will be till Sunday when it appears some kind of front brings us rain. Anyhow I've had such a hankering for hard boiled eggs so that last night before I went to bed I boiled 3 - had one still a bit warm before bed and another sliced on bread with thin slices of onion and mayo on toast today - one more that I should save for tomorrow - we shall see - there are worst things to stuff in me just to satisfy some unplanned food hit.

I usually get brown eggs - half dozen at a time since typically I don't eat many eggs or use them in recipes as I once did - debating if I should get some white eggs and dye - the last couple of years Easter came and went while I was knee deep in either packing or unpacking - it would be nice to use my nice china with a bowl of colored eggs on the table with a nice Easter breakfast or even lunch - need to think on it - white eggs only come boxed as a dozen - for me that is an huge number of eggs - it could be, like many things I did when family was my pinnacle, it is better left as a memory. Need to ponder this one... What are y'all doing if anything?

I am so mad at Amazon. I live in a locked building, one with an intercom system, prominently displayed with an engraved message, saying please put in the apartment number, and the tenant will answer and unlock the doors. The security office is visibly right next to that door, and also has a button if help is needed. Notice in the photo, that the package was placed directly in front of intercom instructions, as well as instructions on the box...

The idiot driver placed the package on top of the intercom system, took a photo and posted it as package delivered. This is in a vestibule, open to the outside, and I received the photo in my email two hours later. I rushed down to the elevator and through the security office and luckily after 2.5 hours, the package was still setting on top of the intercom. I immediately called Amazon customer service, explained the particulars, and was very angry.

Ouch Patricia - frankly I don't think the drivers read instructions - I've been lucky that I noticed increased attention after I actually saw them coming and met the driver at my front door a few times - no more packages left out by the curb but now always on my front porch - however, it sounds like that is not possible for you - glad you called it may make a difference. Thank goodness the package was still there...

If the weather channel is correct it appears we do have a cold front sweeping across the nation that arrives here with the rain Saturday night or Sunday morning - I knew some kind of front was on its way but never dreamed a cold front - slow Spring this year...

Good morning..

Starting off at 31° with the possibility of rain later this afternoon. I noticed the rhubarb peeking when I was out yesterday , it usually gets one more snow on it before it can seriously grow.

Neighbour called last night, she did break her hip but is now home..amazing lady! Her daughter is going to stay with her a while to help  out.

Today the joys of laundry and since the snow has gone down I may be able to hang it out and hopefully beat the rain.

Patricia, one cannot fix stupid.........even duct tape won't work! Hope they pay attention to the instructions next time.

Better shake a leg and get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I did it again last night...fell asleep in front of the TV and got up and went through the kitchen and turned off lights and hit the haystack!  So here I am this morning!

When I get packages, they are usually on the porch right outside the door but there are some deliveries that throw them on the chair at the end of the porch and I got one that was on the ground next to the chair.  I sometimes wonder how those people think!

I'm sitting here waiting for daylight so Cooper Doggie and I can go for a walk.  He's still waiting patiently in his spot on the sofa!  But when light comes in the windows, he'll be at the office door and I see it peeking through right now.  Maybe I'll go surprise him!

Today is going to be a busy day.  I have some stuff lined up to get done and I hope it all makes it!  I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't do like I did and fall asleep!  Come back and share it with us.  I'll try not to go to sleep in front of the TV tonight!

When I was at the house, the guys/gals always put the packages on the porch. A few, though, put them on the porch, but right smack-dab at the top of the steps for all the world to see. My UPS guys usually put the packages beside the kitchen door on the side of the porch where they weren't so noticeable. Here at the apartment, I am lucky to get heavier packages placed at the top of the porch steps, in plain sight and blocking anyone who needs to get by. Fed Ex is particularly bad about that. They either don't supply their regular trucks with dollies any more, or the drivers don't like to use them. I guess they would rather get bad backs.

Well, that is my 2cents for the day.

Good  Morning AMY and anyone else who shows up!

I just got back from walking Cooper and the sun was just rising over the mountain on the other side of the river!  It was red and bright and I was reminded of what my grandmother used to say....

    Red sky in the morning,
    Sailors take warning!
    Red sky at nigh,
    Sailors delight!

Some things just never leave your mind!  I was probably about 4 or 5 when I first heard that saying!

Today is going to be a loafing day!  I didn't sleep well and I have to make that up!  AMY, the temp here is28 degrees wutg a "feels like" temp of 22 so we're not far behind you!  I'm pining for SPRING!  When I'm out walking, I hear the birdies chirping.  If they're back, shouldn't Spring be here?

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And tell us how you did that.  We're very curious!

Good morning, only plus eight presently, but our high for today will be forty.

Morning routine, feeding Farrah, meet and greets concluded with first cup of coffee poured and here I am.

Yesterday, I was feeling compelled, thinking of the potholder and whatever else had fallen behind the stove. So, I pulled everything out, gave the wall, stove sides, and hood a good scrubbing, soaked the retrieved potholder in disinfecting cleaner and set it in the laundry basket. Another nagging chore off my mind. I spent the rest of the evening reading a very twisted suspense thriller.

Amy, enjoy your day of rest, you've earned a day and probably two or three more!

Jane enjoy another day with Cooper and an early bedtime.

MG, in the past, the delivery folks would leave packages with the security office, which has a processing area. Now it seems to be a tossup.

To Rick, Barb, Callie, and Phyllis, I hope each of you are having a great day, and as Lloyd would say, just as you like it.

Barb, I take Claritin,  12hr., non-drowsy tabs. Allerest nasal spray, Mucinex decongestant, and Albuterol inhaler daily for year round allergies and they control my allergies fairly well but,
I still get a runny nose and cough, wheezing and sinus headaches/migraines so I am sympathizing with you.  I keep doors and windows closed and don't go out.  Spring is beautiful and welcome but it is a season that I dread. My sympathies are with you.  One of the joys of living  in South.   :-\

Crow has been holding his tummy 3 times and 3 times he has been fed! Fun watching the birds ,some will eat seed others, apple and or bread.

Since I have done a whole lot of nothing so far I think I will continue and finish what I started.

Passes Barb a dam to stop her stream.  :2funny:  I know this is frustrating for you, when hubby was taking chemo he had what they call chemo nose...all it lacked was the running shoes.

Well, is the recipe for the instant pot custard posted somewhere?  I didn't see it.  And it sounds like something I'd like to try!

Today was a cold one here!  It started out in the mid to low 30s and only made it into the mid 40s.  I'm still looking for Spring.  The birdies are tweeting and chirping so they must have made it back and my bird feeder empties itself out every day now!  So it must be around here somewhere.  Why won't it show it's face!

I'm on the way to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a great day tomorrow.  It's yours!  Do whatever you please...or do nothing!  Make up your mind!

Today was a really odd day!  My leg was giving me some trouble early so I did some sitting around and rubbing lotion on it.  I did walk with Cooper but I sure was glad to get back home and I did some limping on the way.  It's feeling better now...still has a couple sore spots but not even half as bad as it was.  I can't imagine what caused it.  I didn't bump it or fall on it anything that I can remember!  It must just be an "oldie"!

Now I'm going to hit the hay stack.  Morning comes early and I need to be up and meet Cooper Doggie!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow!  Make the day your own!

Another day to stay put and work around home, I don't need to "look" for work as there is always lots to do. Cook, clean, bake and sew.

Fed the robins some cranberries an d now the crows are hollering for their food. Fed them 3 times yeasterday  along with the smaller birds that needed food.

Good Morning to AMY and anyone else who shows today!  I had a "sheesh" day yesterday.  Gardbiuked and peeled some eggs for Frankie.  She likes to take them to work with her and have one at break time!  Then the rest of the day was just "walk Cooper Doggie" and "sit around trying to decide what to do.  I never did decide!

I tuned in to my favorite Perry Mason show at 8 oclock and immediately fell asleep on the sofa.  When I woke up, I decided it was time to hit the haystack.  So I did!  And now it's day break in PA!

AMY, you're right!  Winter came back!  Where oh where is SPRING!

Today, I'm going out to lunch with a bunch of people that I used to work with at Pennsylvania House Furniture Co.  When they left town, we decided that we didn't want to lose our friendship so we get together for lunch once a month and that's today.  I really enjoy seeing them all!

I wish you all a great day!  Do whatever pleases you most!  If that turns out to be nothing, I understand!  Go for it!

I had a nice time with my old friends at lunch today!  There were 8 of us there and we dalked the whole time we were together!  And on the way to and from my friend who picked me up and I talked constantly!  It was a good day!

Good morning, Amy, we're also waiting for spring, although faint signs are beginning to show. Snow is possible Sunday through Monday, however, if so, we're probably having more rain to keep that ice going. 🥴

Nothing on the agenda, today. There are a few construction or deconstruction noises coming from below, which I'm taking to mean a certain problematic tenant has moved on.

Nothing on the agenda today, morning routines, meet and greets, and feeding Farrah, all done. I do need to start coffee, I was on the phone too long and out of the kitchen.

Good morning.....I have just managed to catch up on posts since before St. Patrick's Day.🤪  All of your posts are delightful and make me smile.  I miss being active in this group.  Please understand that I have a lot going on and I am not dealing all that well with

We have been going down to sons new home quite a bit to help him with a few projects that require a second hand, and while we are there we are looking at some possibilities of where our next home may be.  We have one more month here in Prescott, and the time is winding down rapidly.  It is going to be hard to return to Colorado and leave these two little grands, but we accomplished exactly what we wanted to do.  Get to know them better and SEE them grow and for them to know us better.  It has been wonderful.

I must run....hubby and I are off to get haircuts that we desperately need.

Have a good day EVERYFRIEND❣️

Denver, happy to see your catch-up post. Hope to hear from you again when you have time.

Hi, Phyllis. I hope we catch up with your Spring soon. Well, my daffodils are up about five or six inches now, and I see some flower buds peaking up too. I really expected to see them up a little taller and earlier, but then where I am now, they don't get a lot of sun to heat up the ground. At the house, they came up earlly and some were early bloomers. Not here, apparently.

I've been hearing Robins for about a week now. Finally saw one yesterday. and the sparrows are back now too.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm just waiting for daylight to go for a walk with the Cooper Doggie!  So far, he's waiting patiently but he'll tell me when it's light out.  Sometimes dogs make me wonder how much smarter than me they really are!  The just seem to know what's happening and why!

I'm going to a a concert at Bucknell University with one of daughter Cindy's friends tonight.  She seems to have adopted me since her mother passed away and Cindy is far out of state.  She called me to say she already had the tickets and did I want to go with her!  She's a sweetheart and when they were growing up she lived near us and if she wasn't here, Cindy was at her house!  It's nice she remembers the good!

Now I wish you all a pleasant day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to stop by and say "HI" to all of us!

Good morning.
Weather is not going to be nice the next few days. Hope the weathermen are preparing us for the worst and we don't get the freezing rain and possible power outages. Stocked up on milk, eggs and bread and we have everything else in the larder.

Phyllis, would love to see flowers even lilacs blossoming.

MG ,we have the robins here, fed them cranberries and next is blueberries. Nice to see the birds back but sad that there is not a lot for them to eat just yet.
Once the lakes open up the Trumpeter Swans should be making their way north.

Jenny, so good to "see' you! A haircut always makes one feel better. Our friend is letting his hair grow long ,then he will get it cut for a cancer wig.

Patricia, think snow would be better than what they are calling for. Freezing rain leaves you spinning like a button on an outhouse door!!!

Jane, there are times (a lot of em) that my well planned day goes out the window! Getting sidelined is easy and puts me off my schedule of doing things. When a nap pops in I welcome the break! :2funny:

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jane, enjoy the concert. What will it be?

There was a time they offered, and they probably still do, lecture series open to non-students. I forget what the lectures were about that I wanted to go to, but since they were in the evening and I didn't like to drive that far, especially at night and by myself, I never got up there. Nowadays, I can watch university lectures at home at any time. The last major series I watched was about early Roman architecture, including the different periods of wall painting styles. Impressive!

I have nothing particular on my agenda today except for some minor cleaning. It has turned cloudy with a minor possibility of a little rain. Good day to try to catch up on some of my reading. And here is Oscar  :kitten:  looking for attention.

Good morning, I'm joining you after my morning routine and meet and greets are finished, Farrah fed and my coffee brewed.

Amy, we're not that different, presently we're sheathed in ice, with snow, and or sleet expected in three hours. Saturday, we're expecting a temperature dip with clear skies and then Sunday, clouds and warmer temperatures.

We're expecting the trumpeters, too, along with the tundra and Whooper swans.

Everyone begins to get excited about the arrival of the various flocks in May at the wildlife refuge and sanctuary, as a true sign of summer. For days the skies are full of flocks loudly circling before settling down. The refuge fills the public viewing ground areas in spring and fall with grain to help the birds. The refuge, providing over 2000 acres of forests, wetlands, and fields, and adjacent to the Wedgewood wildlife sanctuary, provides thousands of migratory birds a place to feed, rest, and breed from spring through fall.

I used to haunt that place with my camera back in my more able-bodied days.

Jane, what concert are you going to? I used to attend many of the concerts, plays, and lectures during the years I worked at the University and had a yearly reduced season ticket through my employment.

Now, it's time to see what else happened overnight via the net.

🥶 It's chilly outside today, but we're due to have clouds back with warmer weather tomorrow. We have Russian Siberia to thank for our current chill and tomorrow's warming trend.

.Snowfall for the Monday Morning Commute Across the Southern Interior and Higher Elevations...

A warm front moving into the Interior from the west will bring a quick hit of widespread snowfall Sunday night and Monday morning, lingering into the afternoon.

Expect: - Snow accumulations in the range of 1 to 3 inches. Higher snow   totals are locally possible across the Upper Chena Basin.

- In addition, gusty southwest winds may cause minor blowing snow,   with more widespread blowing snow over the highway summits, especially   Eagle Summit on the Steese Highway.

- Likelihood of slick roadways due to potentially snow covered   roads.

Residents are advised to use extra caution Monday morning as roads may be slick for the morning commute.

Good Night, Good Morning, Good Afternoon!!!

This has been "one of THOSE days!  The ballet last night was great and being with Cindy's best friend as she was growing up was very special.  I've seen her and talked to her and she's been to the house and I've gone to the Amish Store with her and another of their friends on several occasions.   But this is the first time that Tamra and I spent an evening together, just the two of us!

The Ballet was here all the way from Houston, TX and it was the greatest!  I loved every minute of it and I had no trouble staying awake for even a minute of it!  I couldn't stop thanking Tamra on the way home and I'm still grateful to her for thinking of me!

Today was a pretty much "do nothing" day.  I took a couple of walks, had a visit with Cathy, read the paper and cooked up a pound plus of burger.  Some will go in the doggy food and the rest will make a batch of barbecue.  I've been hungry for it now for over a month and tomorrow's the day.  I though Frankie was going to the store today and I was going to have her get me some burger rolls but so far, she hasn't showed.  Maybe I can beg my ride home from church to stop and let me run in a store on the way home!  If not, I'll eat it on toast!  Whatever works!

I wish you all a good rest of the day and a peaceful night's sleep!  Do whatever suits your fancy!  It's up to you!

Good morning

I didn't plan on seeing the morning this eary but..

We lost our power at 4:36 am this morning , half an hour later it was back on. We have a nice fire on keeping the house warm should it decide to go out again. Son lost theirs yesterday evening while a friend lost hers  9 am yesterday morning. At that time we didn't have the freezing rain but we do now! Poor Jesse's feet slid all over the place when he went out. Not sure what the day will bring....just go with the flo.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I'll be heading for the bedroom to straighten up and make the bed and then take a shower and get ready for church.  I hope Cathy remembers that she promised to drop me off this morning!

AMY, that's hard for a doggie to walk on ice but it's also hard for us to walk on ice.  I hope you are being careful and I hope the ice goes North or settles into your past very soon.  We have some nice days coming up.  Yesterday, when Cathy showed up she wasn't eveny wearing a jacket and it's still asking for warm weather today....rain in the late afternoon.

I wish Everyfrined a great day.  Make it your own in every way.  Do whatever suits you best...and it that turns out to be NOTHING, that's OK, too!

Jane, I have some sand to put out for Jesse. Right now the birds are here calling for breakfast. I did open the garage door and threw seeds and bread out for them. Even they have trouble on the ice!!
Pastry made and now a pot of beef barley on the back of the cookstove. The ice is getting thick on the tree branches and we may lose power again .Baking pies and tarts will be put off until power is a sure thing to stay on.

Sorry to read that you did loose your power, AMY. I hope after it came back,on that it stayed on.  Darn ice breaking down limbs and breaking power lines😩. I hope things improved through the day for you. Ice can be so scary.

This morning my Keurig coffee pot decided not to work. I descaled it yesterday and all WAS fine. Today...it was dead😩😩 less than a month left here and the thing had to die on me🤷

JANE, how nice you got to go to the ballet and spend time with Tamera.

Wishing everyone a good night of rest.

Jenny, funny you should mention your Keurig dying. Mine did too, the other week. I went and bought a Ninja coffeemaker with a frother, as yet unused, because...just after I received it, but before it got unboxed, I tried one more time with the Keurig. It worked. This is not the first time this happened. It will likely do this to me again soon. However, my new Ninja is waiting, unboxed and the removable parts given a washed. All I have to do is figure out where I set down the instructions. It is one of those that will do both ground coffee and K-pods.

Amy, I love beef barley. Another, similar soup I used to make before lamb became more expensive than I was willing to pay, is Scotch broth. Lamb, around here, seems to have mostly disappeared from the markets years ago, even around Easter. I have recently found an occasional pack of ground lamb along with packs of ground venison, sausage, and bison. Also, they've started selling ever so small packs of rib-eye and filet Mignon of venison and bison. Several of the local restaurants have listed bison on their menus over the last ten years, but right now, I know of only one that still offers bison burgers or steak. Easter will be here in a few weeks, so I need to check to see who, if anyone, is selling leg of lamb this year.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's still dark out and when daylight comes, Cooper Doggie will be taking me fro a walk!

JENNY, so nice to see you here but I'm sorry about your coffee pot.  It could have at least lasted until you were ready to leave!  Nothing ever seems to work when we need it to work!

RICk, it's always nice to see you post.  I know you're there but you almost never say anything!

Today ia a "what shall I do" type day!  I need to start rooting out my summer stuff so I can pack it to be ready to go home with Cindy when she leaves after her daughter, Courtney's graduation!  I also have to get ready to house a bunch of family members who are coming to my 90th birthday party that Cathy is planning for the end of next month!  It sure doesn't seem like that long!!

Now I better finish some stuff because the daylight is peeking through.  There's not enough to go out there but soon!

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way and don't forget to share it with us!

Good morning

Just looked at the storm centre outage and there are a lot without power all over! We were so lucky to lose ours for just one half hour! Temp is 33° at the moment and that will melt the ice off of lines and trees. Some folks have a mess of downed trees and limbs to clean up. Right now it is foggy out.

Just may get that baking done today. Laundry is also on the list.

Jenny, ours did stay on but David's  wasn't to come back on till 11:00 pm or this morning. Winter is going out as a lion here.. Just talked with David and their power is still off and now they are saying Wed!!!

MG, I agree with you Scotch Broth is another good soup. My problem in making soup is I make too much!

Rick, I forgot all about kitty litter and will pick some up....that would be easy on Jesses paws! I use the steel cleats that I was given and recommend them to anyone that has to go out in icy conditions. This is what I wear.

https://shorturl.at/FbaVY

Jane, summer clothes...nice thought. Our yard is covered in snow again.......summer seems to be at the tip of my fingers.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it.....lots to do today.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Try cleaning it again. Leave the "cleaning" solution in it for a bit longer.
I've had that happen. The first cleaning might have loosened up some scale.  If it flows at all, give it several cycles/rinses with plain water (no cleaner). I've given mine a good shake and cleared a clog.

I hope you got an instruction book with it. That describes the cleaning method. I can copy the page and post it. Keurig sells a cleaning solution but their old method used White Vinegar. I'm on my way out now but will come back later with a follow up.

My sister uses white vinegar. It works well for her. Some people use citric acid. I use a descaler solution I buy from Amazon, though I suspect it is nothing more than citric acid and/or white vinegar, and it is the most expensive. I should probably use the vinegar instead. You may have noticed that your dishwasher cleaner tablet or solution is mostly citric acid, too.

Callie, I use the vinegar  then put two  plain water through the machine so no vinegar taste.

Baking is done.7 dozen buttertarts, one blueberry pie and one cinnamon roll. The cinnanon roll was made from left over pastry......did your Mom do the same?

Thank  goodness for leftovers  I did ribs wrapped around a pineapple and just need to heat and eat what goes with it.

Lots of folks are still without power...lots of spoiled food also going to the dump.

I also use the vinegar, rinse, rinse method.

You can purchase plain citric acid at Target, Walmart and Amazon, plus some other stores; to mix with white vinegar. That mixture will do a lot of cleaning for you.

My coffee pot, Cuisinart, 14 cup, has its only cleaning cycle plus a filter to change out every two months.

Thank you all (y'all?  :D ) for your comments.

I actually don't drink coffee unless it's served to me - and use hot tea pods in the Keurig.  I found some pods that could be used for loose coffee or tea and have used those. However, I think they leak the grounds more than the actual pods.

At Christmas, granddaughters gave me several boxes of English Breakfast and Earl Grey tea pods. I love them and I'm not going back to Lipton's - except for decaf Iced Tea, which I make in an iced tea "machine" that makes a pitcher full.

KEURIG --- Take a look at this link.
https://www.keurig.com/hub/support/how-to-descale-your-keurig-coffee-maker
Select your model at the top - use right pointing arrow for more models. See if this helps. I've had to turn mine upside down to dump out the water that wouldn't make coffee - then do the cleaning thing. Be sure to unplug if you are going to turn it upside down.

If you are going to use Kitty Litter or Oil Dri on ice, let the bag get cold (Freezing cold is good) before spreading it. That way it stays on top of the ice, not melted down into it.

I used the white vinegar, rince, rince method, too, when I used my Keurig.  BUT, NEITHER David or I liked the Keurig so bought another programable coffeemaker that uses good ole Folgers ground coffee made the way we like it and makes it a whole pot at a time instead of messing with those 1 cup pods.  Guess I am too old and just prefer to do most things "the old-fashioned way".

Phyllis - Nothing wrong with that old fashioned way - either perk or drip. We had (might still have) an old Corning Electric Pot that made great Perk Coffee. But no longer needing a pot full I switched to the Keurig. I use PEET"S Major Dickason blend Pods. Good hearty coffee. My son prefers a different "flavor" so the Keurig is good for us.

When my last drip coffee machine quit, I looked at the different machines that used pods but saw those as a great moneymaker for the companies and not for a consumer.

My Cuisinart, makes 14 cups, which is fine as I like to buy the coffee beans and daily grind them myself for fresher flavor. Also, while it says 14 cups, it's actually more like eight servings.

Goodness - all this with coffee pots makes me convinced my old fashioned way is best for me - For the past about 25 years now I use an electric kettle to  boil water for either  a cup of tea or several cups of coffee - since I seldom if ever drink more than 2 cups a day a Melitta cone with a paper filter works perfectly - I have a small cone that I can do 2 cups and set one cup aside to reheat later or a larger one that does 4 cups that works when my daughter visits - over the years I've had to replace the electric kettle twice and each time I get the newest version from Salton - a brand I've used since the early years of my  marriage in the 1950s.

As to a cleaning mixture that works for me even removing the scale from hard water is lemon juice over baking soda - I was surprised a year or so ago to find baking soda comes now in a shaker container like nearly any cleaning powder which is great for sprinkling in tea cups to get out that dark stain.

Like you Patricia, my daughter prefers buying beans that she grinds for each pot of coffee - I like the sack of coffee already ground and keep my coffee on my counter in a covered canister. Also on my counter is an empty container that I empty the used grounds into so I can toss them either on the lawn or in the garden.

Crass I know but I do like the flavored coffees and currently I'm drinking Georgia Pecan - I usually get about 4 one pound sacks that is ground in the store while I wait and once home immediately put them in the freezer so that when I open a sack it is almost like freshly ground.

OH yes, and tea if you haven't tried, Amazon has the best Elderberry tea - the one I like best believe it or not is sold as a medicine - Traditional Medicinals Tea, Organic Immune Zoom Elderberry Echinacea, Supports Immune Function - don't know if it has done anything for me but at $4.99 a box it is one of the tastier teas I've had. Much tastier then the one they label Nature Wanted

We've had a week now of overcast or rain and muggy muggy muggy - I really need to get out there tomorrow and throw some fertilizer around - more rain this week and hopefully not a frog croakier that would wash away rather than soak in the fertilizer.
