Thanksgiving Time

When all the leaves are off the boughs,
And nuts and apples gathered in,
And cornstalks waiting for the cows,
And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,
Then Mother says, "My children dear,
The fields are brown, and autumn flies;
Thanksgiving Day is very near,
And we must make thanksgiving pies!"

Thanksgiving Observance

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

Summer Holiday
Cliff Richard and The Shadows

We're all goin' on a summer holiday
No more workin' for a week or two
Fun and laughter on a summer holiday
No more worries for me or you
For a week or two

We're goin' where the sun shines brightly
We're goin' where the sea is blue
We've seen it in the movies
Now let's see if it's true

Every wee body has a summer holiday
Doin' things they always wanted to
So we're goin' on a summer holiday
To make our dreams come true
For me and you

We're goin' where the sun shines brightly
We're goin' where the sea is blue
We've seen it in the movies
So let's see if it's true

Everybody has a summer holiday
Doin' things they always wanted to
So we're goin' on a summer holiday
To make our dreams come true

For me and you
It's a week or two
And a dream come true

Wow! Bubble, you have outdone yourself and given us a lovely new hangout!

I especially liked Lao Tseu's saying; so very true. He has always been one of my favorites.

Good morning..

Haven't peeked out to see if we got more snow or not, temp is 28°F. I am off to the city taking Kyle's sister to the Dr. Kyle is staying home to let the dogs look after him. :)

I made a stab at tiding up the sewing room, then moved on to getting rid of items that are no longer neede or worn. Will hope to finish that job later this week.

Bubble, thank you for the new start, I agree with Patricia!

Jane, good morning to you!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I will be scarce this weekend. Sue goes in for her surgery tomorrow, and I am the one that has to drive her over. I will either hang out for about six hours or leave and come back after they assign her a room. They don't want her bringing in her overnight stuff until she gets her room assignment.

The wasps still persist. Still waiting on the pest control guys to come out and plug up the holes. Somehow, I doubt that will get rid of them all. Got three yesterday, two of them were warming themselves on the steam radiator. Still have not figured out how they are getting into that room. Have not seen any in the kitchen for several days, and none in the bathroom for two days. But, it is going to warm up again to around 70o on Thursday before getting colder again. So, I expect more. Unfortunately, I won't be here for much of the weekend to swat the things.

This was a FULL day and I'm worn to a frazzle!  I'm heading for the haystack and hoping for a good night's sleep to refresh me.  Cooper will be arriving as usual at 6:45 a.m. so I'll be up and attem early tomorrow.

We weren't able to stop at Davy's today so that's in the plans for tomorrow!  And I wish you all a good night and a happy tomorrow.  Come by and say "HI"!

Brrrr! Guess I need to turn the heat up a little. It is 29o outside and a chilly feeling 69o downstairs, which means it is probably about 64o up here.

Good morning...

30° here tad chilly and the fake wood (oil)  is on. Oil is not as good as wood heat but there is less work to it..only work is opening up ones wallet!

Sister in law had both her eyes done yesterday..needles in both!! Dr is getting the one eye ready for a new lens later this month.

While in the waiting room one gets talking with others and a gentelman besoe us was telling of a trip he and his family had to Flordia Disney Land. Both his grandgirls dressed up as princesses even had glitter nail polish on their fingers. The 4 year old came to him (Papa) and asked if he would like to a be princess and could she paint his fingernails. He let her go ahead and do his nails, not knowing that six weeks later he would still be wearing silver glitter on his nails :2funny:  He found out after the fact that a base coat should be put on first before glittler. What a great grandpa to let her do that!

Today I take the neighbour in for his vehicle , I also want to pick up apples and then home to stay. ( I hope)

MG, yes time to turn the heat on vibrations from shivering is not going to heat the house up. :)

Callie, hope you arm is healing  without a lot of pain and discomfort.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

edited to add..... I didn't know M&Ms had peanuts in them........yum. Got into Halloween candy  :)))

And HI! again

Hi again, PATRICIA!

And Good Morning or afternoon depending on where you are!

Cooper arrived at 6:45, had his breakfast, waited for me to get dressed and make the bed and then he took me for a nice, long walk in the freezing (32 degrees and frost on the ground) weather!  I was sure glad to get back from that one!

Then Cathy came by and we did some book work and some phone calls and then headed for Davy's!  They've enlarged and added some products, reded the parking lot and hired more people!  It took me a bit longer to find all the stuff on my list and they still don't have some of them.  So next week, Cathy and I will make a trip to WM.  One thing on my list that is getting urgent is the candied fruit to make the fruit cake.  It has to have time to age before Christmas and I always try to have that procedure in progress no later than November 15th.  It's getting urgent!  I have everything else and I see it every time I walk into the kitchen!

There was a heavy frost on the ground when I got up this morning.  You don't suppose that winter has set in...now, do you!

Enjoy the rest of your day!  Make it your own in every way!  HAPPY! HAPPY!!

Good morning..

Waiting on a repair man this morning for th satellite  dish. The dish needs to be removed to a more easily accessible place. When it snows and the dish is covered we (me) have to go up a ladder with a long pole to take the snow off of it.

Working on another quilt just need to make 5 more blocks and sew them on.

No  snow so that is a good thing.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning to anyone who poke a nose in here...and a special "Good Morning to AMY and PATRICIa!

AMY, when my Dish receiver gets snow (or rain or wind or whatever) on it, I can't climb a ladder and clean it off.  So I just sit around and complain!  They've moved it three times and there's always something that grows up in the way or blows in or.....?

No Cooper this morning but she's coming over later to give him a bath and then he'll wait here for her to go to the store.  She's going to pick up some stuff for me, too!  So Cooper and I will have a bit of a visit later.  I don't expect them until afternoo because when Frankie doesn't have to work, she sleeps in!

I'll check back later to see if we have anyone else peeking in.  I put some cookies in the Cookie Bin.  Help yourselves.  They're oatmeal this time!  Enjoy your day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning EVERYFRIEND🌞🌞

I am in the process this morning to see if I can get my neck surgery changed from Nov. 20th to December 4th.  Found out we have a surprise birthday planned for hubbies #80.   A wedding to celebrate on Thanksgiving and a Nutckacker Ballet for my Birthday on the 3rd of December.  No time for surgery....I am hopeful the date can be changed 🙏🙏🙏

As of yesterday I am no longer taking my Ozempic shot.  I did it for four weeks and yesterday I was to double the quantity and with ALL that is going on I just felt overwhelmed and extremely tired of feeling so lousy.....so I am a QUITTER😩😩 I can hardly eat much at all, and what I can is not necessarily the best for me.  Soups and vegetables are about it.  That in itself does not sound too bad, I will admit, but I can not eat most meat at all?  If chicken is very small in soup but that is it.  Overall
I am extremely tired and being nauseous all the time is just not something I feel I can no longer deal with.  The thought of paying in excess of $600. a month to feel this way is even more sickening 😩🤯. In addition I have not had much weight loss and my blood sugars have not improved😡 Thank you for listening to me belly ache‼️😩‼️

CALLIE, I hope you are healing that wrist quickly❣️

Love and hugs to you, JANE. So very happy to hear your health report🙏🙏

AMY, always love hearing what all you are doing‼️‼️

Love and hugs to you,  JACKIE❣️

Thank you so much BUBBLE for our new SS.  Continued prayers for you, your family and your country🙏🙏.

MARS, special thoughts and prayers for Sue.  I do hope she is on her way to a complete recovery.  Ugh, sorry to read the pest issue continues😩😩

We had our dental appointments on Tuesday.  They gave us  an approximate guess for the dental work they would like us to have.  After we picked ourselves up off of the floor we got the paperwork and headed out the door. UGH‼️‼️🤯🤯🤯 At nearly 80 and 76 years old we just do not think it is in our best interest to take any of this on.....for one thing, the projected time frame to get implants done we could be dead before they are ready to be installed. The office was not pushy at all and did not make us feel pressured, which we were thankful for.  Invisiline is part of my recommended plan.  I have lived with crooked teeth my whole life....so why try to do anything about it seems unreasonable😩😩

Today is our granddaughter's 14th birthday.  We will all gather and celebrate her tonight.

I hope you all are having a good Friday.  Enjoy your weekend.  We plan to as we are to have beautiful weather.  That being said, our oldest grandson is going skiing tomorrow as our mountains have plenty of snow and have opened early.  It would not break my heart IF you mountains got TONS of snow and we could just get rain‼️‼️

Good morning, I was up late last night and slept in. It's already 9:47, and besides showering, Farrah took care of her wash, making coffee, and finishing my meet and greets; that's it. If my cell hadn't awakened me, I would still be sleeping! I did notice my alarm was turned off, so I had been awake enough to do that.

I started the morning demoralized, and Farrah helped by standing upright on her hind legs, head turned, to reach around for a wash. At that same time, I attempted to rise with a chorus of snaps, creaks, and other odd bone noises.

Unfortunately, I had promised a coffee and some shopping with a friend so I shouldn't have slept in and today will be a rush.

Hello to Jane and Amy and so many others checking in. It's nice to see and hear from everyone!

Slowly getting the job  on the quilt done but it isn't without mishaps!! Just a little more work and it too can be put to bed, (pun intended)

Jenny, seems to me you have a lot on your plate to deal with..I do understand why you would like to postpone for a while. My friend  also has a lot on her plate and postponed her eye surgery untul Spring. She needs her pacemaker changed and may need a valve transplant. If it is not one thing it is another!! No, your not a quitter.... you just know your own body.

Patricia, you mean Farrah doesn't get you up?? My neighbours cat would paw her on the head to wake her up :2funny:

The fellow has been and gone and the dish relocated. Nice young man ,knew what he was doing and went straight to work on our problem. Now I hope when it snows we won't have too much of a problem cleaning the dish off.

Thanks for all your well wishes for Sue. The doc called me and said everything went well and that she was in recovery. I got over to the hospital just after they got her to her room. Other than looking like she was about to fall back asleep and a bit of nausea, she said she felt pretty good, then proceeded to tell me a was welcome to go because she wasn't up to chatting with anyone. The doc said they wouldn't do too much this afternoon, but tomorrow they will be getting her up to do some PT and learning to use her a walker. The stay is supposed to be for only one night, so if she does well, I will be carting her home tomorrow afternoon.

Finally saw the end of the quilt, just need to iron the binding and it is good to go.  Now to move on to the next one.

Jane, enjoy your time with Copper. You won't spoil him now will you??? :))

Patricia, now that would be a sight to see.

MG, happy to read that all went well with Sue.

Better get dressed and with any luck be early to get Kyle  into the barber shop.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning. I'm alive, but local friends and family may have been skeptical.

While out shopping, I was laid low by a sudden vertigo attack. I was dizzy enough to lay full length on her car's rear seat. My ears were plugged, my neck was stiff and hurting, and my nose ran unceasingly.

She went home, told her husband, and he went out and purchased enough medical ammunition for armageddon. She says she feels fine.

This morning, yesterday's disaster had morphed into your basic head cold. I'm rarely sick, so that did a number on me; it came on so suddenly. Yesterday, I called my doctor, who confirmed I had a bad cold and told me to stay home and rest. And to stay away from his office, not really, but it was implied.

Today, I deep-cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and wiped everything down with Lysol cold and flu-killing wet wipes. So, dramatics over until the next time.

Patricia, happy to read you are feeling somewhat better today. While outside feeding the neighbours hens a flock of Whistler Swans flew over heading your way. Must of been 12 -14 of them and I had no camera with me :(

Carrots are pulled ,washed and put away, played Frisbee trying to tucker out Jesse so I could clip his nails......bottom line I tired out first but did get a few cut. Now to go bring laundry back in. Then go play in the sewing room.

Cooper wore me out toeay!  He wasn't happy wit short walks.  He had to go around all three blocks and than up and back down the same street twice.  I got my walking steps in early and he took a long nap when we got back!

I cooked some hamburgers today and I'll be eating them for the next couple of days for my lunch.  I actually turned them into cheeseburgers and had one on a roll with a slice of tomato for my lunch!  It was "burry, burry goooood".  One of my kids used to use that expression when she was little!  I still keep it around!

AMY, all the ducks and geese are gone in this area!  I love watching the Vs go over and listening to them talking to each other as they go!  There's a big pond right behind the houses across the road where they rest on their trips!

PATRICIA, that cold onset was something!  I don't think I've ever had one come on like that!  I'm glad you're on the way to recovery!

I got a nice package in the mail today!  It was a box FULL of the special candy bars that like I brought home from Oklahoma the last time I was there but these didn't come from OK.  I'll take them wherever they come from.  They are really good!

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  Cooper will be here early tomorrow morning and I'll have to take care of him and get myself ready for church.  Of course, I have an extra hour to get that done tomorrow after I turn the clock back.  WE SPRING forward and FALL back!  And I'm pretty sure this is the weekend we do that!  Yep!  I checked it out...again...and we turn the clocks back tonight!  Sleep tight and enjoy the extra hour!

Saturdays around here are full of college football games🏈 I did manage to slip away and accomplish a few things I could handle myself. I had to watch the Air Force Academy vs West Point who played in Bronco Stadium today.  The weather was perfect and unfortunately my team, the Falcons got stomped by the Black Knights😩

We had a delightful time with the family as we celebrated our only granddaughter's 14th Birthday💗. I felt like a new person after starting to get that poison out of my system from that awful shot.  Less and less nausea, headache is gone and I had more energy.  I still was not able to eat much at dinner but that is OK.  Having my surgery date changed to a better time also helped me feel better🥰🥰

PATRICIA, crazy how your cold bug came on so quickly.  Happy you were not alone and your friends kept you safe and made sure you had meds to take to help you feel better. Boy would I love to see Farrah in the position you saw her in‼️🤣🤣🤣

MARS, good to read that Sue's surgery went well and she was kind enough to let you go on back home. She is right....not really feeling like cheating....and no reason for you to just sit there and do nothing.  I am going to have my neck surgery in a further away neighborhood this time.  I have already told Bob Inwould like him to get going before it gets dark so he is out of an unknown neighborhood and home where I know he is safe.

Lucky you JANE, getting a box of your favorite candy❣️❣️ That could not happen to a better person❣️

AMY, hope you got Kyle to the barber and he got a great haircut ‼️

Unhappily turning back the clocks tonight😩😡

Sleewell‼️

Good morning..

Really dislike this turning back the clocks!! :knuppel2:

A day of rest here..after the dust kangaroos get vacuumed up. Then play in the sewing room.maybe.

Jane, what extra hour?? Pups seemed to want to wake me up for their breakfast. I don't get to listen to the crows as they have headed south.Neighbour had a hen out and came to fetch it home with a fishing net. Little hen was giving his a good run but he did catch her in the end.
Candy bars always hit the spot and at any time of day.

Jenny, nice to read that you are feeling a lot better after getting off the shot. Kyle did get his hair cut and it was done by the Dad who does a nice job.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Well, I was wide awake a good hour early this morning!  I'm waiting for Cooper to arrive and see if this has affected his schedule!

JENNY, nice to see your long post and nice to hear that you are feeling better!  I wish you well with your upcoming surgery and be sure that Bob gets back into familiar territory before dark.  I understand that you'd rather he'd do that than sit there watching you sleep!

I think I'll go make up Cooper's breakfast.  Since it will be an hour later than he usually eats he'll be starving when he gets here!  I wish Everyfriend a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning, 15 degrees and cloudy at 7:22 a.m. Winds are brisk at 25-35 mph, and our ice is back.

I don't have anything planned for today. Yesterday was spent lying around with my Kindle or a magazine; nothing else was accomplished except the basics and laundry.

This cold probably didn't have a sudden onset; it was perhaps small signs I missed. Yesterday was stuffy with ears stopped up, and this morning, milder symptoms. Shakespeare said it best, "It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Hello and Good Night!  This extra hour is catching up to me and forcing my eyes to close early!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  I don't know if I'll be here in the morning.  I have an early dental appointment and Cooper will be arriving and demanding attention.  I'll be by as soon as I can!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning...

Really not a fan of this time change :tickedoff: Oh well it is what it is.

We are off to the city to pick up an item Kyle ordered and we will meet up with Bri to exchange goodies. David is off to Sweetwater TX, I love that name Sweetwater. :)

Just have a bit more cutting of fabric and I can soon start another quilt.

Jane, Cooper may be demanding but we love giving attention to the pups!

Patricia, I will take snow ahead of the ice! One minute one is standing and the next minute you're  kissing the ground. You hope no one sees this move and you hope you can get back up gracefully after checking nothing is broke!!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

AMY, enjoy your visit with Bri and I'd like to know what David thinks of Sweetwater, TX.  I've been there back when Cindy still lived in TX!

I think I'll go and get myself dressed for my appointment and save a bit of time later!  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!  Do whatever suits your fancy!

We were all ready and piled in Cathy's car and it wouldn't start.  After she cancelled my dental appt and called AAA and was talking to her hubby about meeting her at the pickup place, she tried the key and it started again.  So she cancelled the pickup, drove the car to her usual garage and Craig is picking her up there.  Then she'll drive him home, come back and get me and we'll go to WM.  No day is normal any more!

Good morning, 18 degrees and another winter advisory. Amy, the problem with ice for me is not falling; it is not having something or someone to pull and lift you back up again if there isn't any handy item to leverage.

The Arctic is a chill, dry place in the winter, with little humidity, and you need lots of humidity to have snow. And this is what we're promised,

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKST TODAY
What
A mix of freezing drizzle and snow. Ice accumulations of a glaze and snow accumulations of less than one inch.
Where
Fairbanks Metro Area.
When
Until noon AKST today.
Impacts
Plan on slippery road conditions. A glaze of ice will make walking surfaces highly slippery.

Yesterday, I deep-cleaned my bathroom. I had put it off, but it was bugging me, so now it is not.

Today's plan was the kitchen, but the bedroom is bugging me for another arrangement: wiping down any wall spots and a full vacuuming. My bedroom has become my storage place, and I'm not too fond of that.

Good Night!  I've already been sleeping through my TV shows...at least parts of them!  Now I think I'll head for the haystack where I can close my eyes and not be missing anything!  We cancelled the shopping trip today because Cathy got company so we're doing it tomorrow!  I never get anything done at home when I go shopping!

Have a peaceful night and a good tomorrow!
PATRICIA, when (or IF) you finish cleaning at your house, you can start on mine!

Good morning..

Starting out warmer this morning at 48° and rain in the forecast.
Yesterday was a fun day, gleaning all and then some what we went into the city for. A quick lunch with Bri at DQ and then home.

Today, I would like to deliver a quilt if the address is the corrct one given to me. House chores after  that and more time in the sewing room.

Jane, talked with David and he didn't get to see much of Sweetwater..just made his delivery and now he is on his way back. No grass grows under that lads feet!

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good Morning.  My day is off early again.  This time change will take some getting used to!

PATRICIA, thanks for the laugh to start the day.  Sometimes I think getting the house clean woul be worth everything you mentioned!  And Cooper loves to snuggle!

Today is the day Frankie was supposed to pick up her "new to her" car and Cooper was going to stay with me while she did that!  Something might be changing that plan.  I'm waiting for news today.  In the meantime, I have to get ready for the trip to WM that was cancelled yesterday when Cathy's car decided to sit still in my driveway!  I guess I see what happens there, too!

AMY, I saw a picture that David posted on faceboook but it was a truck.  Does he really drive a double long all that way?  That would scare the "hoohaw" right out of me if it was my son doing that!

I better get started on my day.  I need to get dressed, make the bed and get some stuff done!  Make your day the best ever!  Make it your own in every way!

Jane, no that wasn't David's truck. He does tell me after the fact of some of the not so nice times he has been in. Ahead, beside or behind a tornado and many other weather related times. I know he is a good driver but that doesn't stop me from worrying.

We have had some wait and see days...in the end everything works out the way it was suppose to. :)

Good, very late morning at 11:15. We had frozen rain all day yesterday and capped it off with an inch of fresh snow overnight. I finished my meet and greets and my morning chores, now to decide if I want to attempt Friday's aborted shopping trip or to complete the kitchen first. Then it's on to the bedroom and finally, the living room tidy and vacuumed. I blame my midwestern Mom, who, with the three of us girls, conducted a twice-yearly deep cleanse.

My sister in Idaho has taken it further this year by deep cleaning, rebuilding, and re-assembling her living room. She tossed or donated her old furniture, I'm not sure which, and is awaiting new furniture replacements for a long, narrow room. This is the same sister whose first vehicle was a small red Chevy Love, remember those? She proceeded to reupholster the entire cab in padded red gingham. She still amazes me with her drive, enthusiasm, and ingenuity.

Patricia, thank you for posting the photo for MaryPage......cute children!

Good Morning!  AMY, you were so right about last night!  I fell asleep on the couch 3 times while trying to watch some TV and decided it was time to head for the haystack.  This time change takes a while to work it's way into my system!

Today is a "Ho-Hum what should I do" day!  Cooper is here and that gives me an excuse to goof off!  But I do have some things calling for attention!

I liked the pictures of the kids dancing, too!  They are so cute!  And they sure do enjoy life at that age!

Better see what Cooper's up to out in the yard!  He does a lot of barking!  I try to calm him down so he doesn't disturb the neighbors!  Have a good day Everyfriend.  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning from the Interior at 22 degrees and fresh snow.

I never got to the stores or did any extra chores yesterday as I cleaned my computer of useless programs and sites.

I spent time carrying on three serial online conversations yesterday about a multitude of subjects, and that, in a nutshell, was my day.

I'm off to the haystack!  My eyes won't stay open again tonight.  I sure hope I get used to this time change pretty soon.   I don't know if I'll have time to check in tomorrow morning.  Cooper will be arriving and I'll need to meet his needs and then my rescheduled dentist appointment is later in the morning!  I'll try to be by when I can.  In the meantime...Have a good day!

Good morning.

Woke to a white winterland, snow started around 9 pm and left a blanket of snow maybe 2 inches.

Picking up a tablesaw Kyle looked at this morning if roads permit as they were also calling for freezing rain last night....winter is here!!

Pulled all the parsnips yesterday and gave the tops to the hens, now to wash and bag them today.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

AMY, we got that precipitation too but it was just water down here!  Everything is wet!  But we don't have to shovel it!

I'm off to see what is yelling for attention around here!  I'm thinking maybe the kitchen!  It's had some hard use lately and will be getting lots more.  Have a good day, Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning; it's another late one with sleet outside my window due to snow this afternoon with a gain of 0.3 inches. I'm becoming a hermit and not wanting to go to the store or outside in that ice and snow.

I need to go sometime as we're having our Friendsgiving, and I need to find something to assemble, cook, and be ready to offer. They're having one here but...

Well, I got some stuff done around here and we made it to the dentist (my first visit since the facial surgery).  They said that my teeth needed the usual cleaning and they did that but I don't have any cavities and it's been two years since I've been there.  When the dentist came in, he took a good look at the surgery and asked a lot of questions.  I gave him a big "Thank You" for pressuring me to see a surgeon and we had a high hand clap!  I'll always be grateful for that pressure!  He's a good guy!

Now I'm ready for the haystack and I'm sure glad I'm not having the ice and snow that PATRICIA is dealing with.  If that was mine to deal with, I'd stay home, too!

I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  Go for it!

@Lloyd Hammond Apparently it's deer mating season. I saw a deer on my way home from work tonight as well. It's not too unusual to see deer in this area as I live near some woods, but it was 9:45 at night and he was a couple blocks from the woods on the other side of a busy road. Fortunately there wasn't any traffic at the time and he trotted across the street and back towards the woods, so hopefully he didn't get hurt.

It has been a week since I posted in here. Not much to report.

As of yesterday, and not counting yesterday because I didn't look at the back bedroom, the rooms have been wasp free.

Sue is doing well. Her friends have been visiting all week bringing her goodies. The surgeon sent her over a device to use that sounds similar to a TENS unit, but for bone healing, not muscle. I forget what she called it. I'll be taking over a few groceries and doing a few chores for her later today.

Lloyd, I am happy to hear that you were not injured. Too bad about the car.

Even though Sue is in a built up area, there are a small wooded areas. She avoids several roads, especially this time of year, after dark because she has hit deer that jumped out in front of her twice in the last few years. I am surprised that I haven't seen any deer lately around my area because there is more open and wooded spaces. Right across my street is a conservation area along the creek. I am actually surprised that I don't see racoons about either. A bobcat was spotted last February, but other than that we have the usual suspects - possum, groundhogs, a few muskrat by the river, foxes and coyote rarely, and once I thought I saw a stout or other weasel like critter, the ever present squirrels, oh and a whopper of a turtle several years back.

Calling for rain around 10 this morning, snow still lingering.

Mixed up day on what will get done or not. Nothing planned but as one knows work is always there to do or try to avoid.

Patricia, after that snow and then rain I thought we would be iced up but the temp rose and it melted off the trees.

Good Morning!  I'm doing the fruit cake today!  So far, I have the cooked part done and cooling.  I'm thinking the mixing will be done right after lunch and Coopers early afternoon walk.  It should be cool enough by then.  I just stuck my finger in it and it's stll pretty hot.  (But it sure does taste good...I licked my finger)

LLOYD, so glad you are not hurt but I'm sorry about the car, too.  I'm sure if I took a walk around here at night, I'd see a deer...or two.  I'd probably also see a skunk so I stay in at night!

MARSGAL, nice to see you stop by and good news about your friend, Sue!  Keep on keeping free of wasps!  They're no fun in their own place and when they come into our places it's even worse!

I guess I better get moving. Stuff to do while I wait for the fruit cake starter to cool enought to add the goodies!  I hope to have it in the crock and aging before I hit the haystack tonight!  Cathy brought me a small container of Brandy to do the aging.  That was my Mom's favorite ager so I adopted it too.

I hope Everyfriend has a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Make it your own whatever you do!

I am still around but this has been an unhappy week.  My former neighbor and dear friend died of brain cancer.  Her memorial/funeral service will be tomorrow.  David and I talked it over and decided I am probably not up to going so he will go as my/our family presence.  She fought hard for nearly a year but the cancer was too strong for her.

It is cloudy today and turning cold after an especially warm, record-breaking week.

Glad you are OK, Lloyd.  Cars can be replaced....you cannot.

Take care, All.

Good morning, another cloudy day at 18 degrees this morning. Coffee made and shower done, Farrah fed and did my meets and greets and small morning chores, so I'm here to say hello again. Today is the day, and I can't put it off any longer, so I'll be spending some time in the grocery store

I'm so sorry about your car, Lloyd. We used to hear about cars and moose all the time, but as the city's built up, they've moved to the outskirts, or I have, as I never hear about collisions as I used to.

Joanne, we have different wasps, hornets, and bees of various types, and I always end up with the bite swollen. Mosquitos are a summer scourge, but the noseeums, tiny gnats that love smoke, and those in the woods are the worst, horrible creatures!

We don't have any small or medium creatures except shrews, weasels, lynx, foxes, and wolverines—no raccoons, skunks, possums, or snakes. We have plenty of black and brown bears, Dall sheep, and Cariboo, and when domesticated, they're called reindeer (same animal, two names).

Then there are the snowshoe hares, squirrels, and ptarmigan. We never had basic rabbits until some pets escaped or were released in the fifties and multiplied, but they are not native or every day as the hares are. The Interior is amid a vast boreal forest bound by mountain ranges and covers around 1.8 million acres.

Jane, I would love fruitcake. I used to make it, but that time is long ago, and the commercial ones I've had were dry and tasteless. I used to cook and put by so much, but not anymore. I generally make a large batch of soup, stew, or meat dish, section it into smaller amounts, and freeze it. There are always fruit, berries, and salad makings in the fridge.

Amy, after the past week's sleet, rain, and snow, we're back to looking as we did before. This winter is shaping up to be a repeat of years past, with no records broken right and left almost daily as we saw in the past two years. January and February, if they follow the pattern, will be cold and dark. March will have the most snowfall and light regained, and if it continues to remain on brand, snow will be gone by Easter.

It's on a ratio of about half and half per your question to Jane.   ;)

Phyllis, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. It's a very aggressive cancer. My daughter died of that when she was eighteen.

AMY, does the Brandy have to go "either or"?  Couldn't it just go both?

PATRICIA, if you had a chance to eat fresh, homemade fruit cake, would it be on your list of "yes, i can" items or would it be something you should avoid?

And, FYI...the fruit cake is all baked and is in the crock to age in the cool for a while!  It finished baking about 3 hours ago and my house still smells like it.  I had about 4 or 5 tablespoons left and baked it and ate it.  It was pretty good!  I remember my dad hanging around to stir when the fruit and nuts went in at the end and it is very difficult to stir at that point.  So I holler for him to hang around and get under my wrist and elbow when I put the fruit in.  And, you know, I kind of feel his presence!

Now I'm loafing, full time!  I earned it!  No Cooper this weekend so I'll have my own time and it's gonna be lonely!

I don't know if I'll be back later so I'm saying it now...Good Night Everyfriend!  Sleep peacefully and wake to a new day.  Make it your own in every way!

I returned from shopping about thirty-forty-five minutes ago and while hungry, nothing appeals. Until something does, I'll wait.

Jane, to answer your question, no. I'm allergic to chemicals that prolong shelf storage and ultra-processed foods. For example, if it has red or green dried or jellied fruits, that's highly processed.

If no mix was used and the ingredients were ones commonly found in a kitchen, there would be no problem. Last year, a friend made me a fruitcake with no mixes or fake chemically processed holiday fruit. She dehydrates her fruit and vegetables, so she uses her dried fruits.

There are no fast food, microwavable foods, or convenience foods such as jello, Koolade, gravy, other powdered mixes,  condensed soups, etc. Think about how we prepared and ate food in the forties before chemicals became food's mainstay. If you look at the anti-inflammatory or Mediterranean diet, that's how I eat.

PATRICIA, my fruit cake does have candied fruit in it but so did my Mother's.  She made it back in the 30s and 40s and that also had candied fruit in it!  This modern type of candied fruit looks the same to me but I'm not an expert on that.  I don't know if there was a difference or not!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  I hope the chickens and cows are all settled down for the night because I'm ready to sleep!  Good Night Everyone!

Jane, I bet it still smells good in your home, folks are really going to enjoy your fruits of labour. David is in Arkansas and sent me a photo of his supper.......he had turnip greens and said they are good!!

PATRICIA, you've made me curious and I'm going check out the process of making my own candied fruit!  I'd be willing to bet my mother did that!  I wasn't all that observant back in my youth but hers did look a bit different.

AMY, we used to have turnip greens back when my Dad had a garden.  He grew up on a farm and a lot of the customs followed him through life!  I can't remember if I liked them or not!

Another late morning check in. I added an extra load of laundry to my morning chores and spent my wait time in the library gossiping until the load was finished.

The weather has a snow alert for an overnighter on Sunday and another on Wednesday. Our current snow on the ground is 0.03 inches.

.Increasing Snow Threats Sunday night Through Thursday...

A front will usher in wintery weather conditions for most of the Interior beginning Sunday night. This first initial front will bring widespread snowfall with a general range of 2 to 4 inches possible, locally heavier amounts to the west of Fairbanks of 4 to 7 inches, through Tuesday. A second storm moving into the Interior on Wednesday will bring chances for more snowfall of several inches possible through Thursday of next week.

Residents should be aware of this change in the weather pattern after a quiet weekend of weather.

Jane, you should see what they do powdered milk or potatoes; by then, you'd never want to use them again! Or put the powdered product in a tightly sealed container with no extra room for air to dissipate the smell. Leave it for 36 hours/three days, and then take the lid off and sniff.

I had Claire try that, and she said she almost passed out and no longer uses them.

Ultra-processed food is convenient, and they say it makes up 70% of the average person's diet, but doctors warn of increased weight gain, skin, heart, brain, and gut issues.

PATRICIA, I could never bring myself to use those powdered products..especially powdered milk.  I was raised on fresh farm milk when I was in my growing years and the taste stuck with me.  My grandparents still had a farm back in those years and the milk was one of the best things there.  We were probably one of the few families with meat on the table during WWII and my DAD was still a farmer even if he didn't live on a farm.  When I was raising my family, the year we built our house was the year my parents moved into an apartment.  My Dad and I had a big garden in my yard and he was there several times a week to work the ground!  Now I shop at the Amish Road stands and markets in the summer for my vegetables and also for meat sometimes.  I'm a country girl!  And I guess I will always be a Country Girl!

Now I'm heading for the haystack!  I had a busy day and I got a lot of stuff done!  My body is weary and it's ready for its spot in the hay!  Good night to Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and make tomorrow a good day!

I know what you mean Jane. Both of my parents were from large multi-generational farming families. I grew up in a US territory where hunting and fishing was how you got by, even with both parents working full-time jobs and the acre plowed into  the garden, and processing and putting by.

It wasn't until we left home and discovered processed foods that we ran into issues. I have my allergies, and my sister has severe diabetes, and we might have escaped all that if we'd listened to our parents.

Adult food allergies outstripped children's in growth in 2019 and, by 2020, had increased by 40%. And they say health issues will continue to rise.

I  really dislike what they have done to milk and by products of it. Does not taste right and it is so full of chemicals now. I used to make our own butter from the cream and the only thing that did go in was a wee bit of salt and the cream. Look at the expiery date on milk or cream!

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Great to hear, Don, that you are taking up you are in your Santa role again this year.

Well, we have a couple of frost days now, so all those lovely autumn colors have turned to brown, and my yard now needs a raking.

I've been keeping half an eye on the news feeds regarding the pending volcanic eruption in Iceland. One of my niece's and her significant other were very recently there at the Blue Lagoon, just before all the drama started.

I splurged and bought meatloaf mix to make the first meatloaf I've had in over a year, maybe two. Beef prices are so expensive now that I don't even by ground beef anymore. While I am happy to see my grocery store added very small portions of venison, and bison (just ribeye, ground and hot dogs), Unfortunately, the prices, always higher than beef, are more than I am willing to pay now. The one and only time I saw ground lamb, I bought a pack and made shepherd's pie. Now, I have a pack of ground pork sausage to use, but don't actually know what to do with it besides patties. Mostly I am eating fish and chicken or recipes that don't require meat.

Amy, I remember eating turnip greens from my garden, but I prefer beet greens. I remember the year I was able to keep my spinach bed going all winter, covered with plastic sheeting when too cold. They stayed small, but were a wonderful substitute for lettuce in my sandwiches. All this food talk is making me hungry; I haven't had breakfast yet.

Good Sunday greetings to all.

Another crazy week around here.....I am not even going into it.....I can sum it up in one word..
DOCTORS🤣🤣🤣🤣 So far this week is clear and we hope to keep it this way.

Our #3 son and family were going to come by for breakfast this morning for a little birthday celebration for Bob, but unfortunately our grandson has some kind of a bug and it spread like crazy throughout or DIL's family who were all together this weekend for family pictures.  We are going to Dave's for the bday celebration today tho and it will so nice to see all of them.  I always imagined our entire family would be able to gather together for this 80th BD😩

PHYLLIS, I am sad to read about your friend's passing 🙏 Darn cancer😡

LLOYD, so happy you were not hurt in the accident, but sorry your car was totaled.  We have a lot of deer and elk around us and sadly so many of them get hit and die.....and many cars ruined too.

DON....yippee, SANTA is back......wish we could see you again 9n your Santa suit.  A very good friend of ours is Santa every year in our biggest shopping center.  He loves it and I always think of YOU when I see him‼️

MARS, happy to read Sue is doing well and you might have ended the wasp and Yellowjacket saga‼️‼️  🤞 🤞

JANE, your fruit cake will be so delicious.  Lucky to all who will get to enjoy it‼️ Such a blessing your dentist steered you in the right direction and saved your life.

PATRICIA, happy to read you will be joining friends for your Friendsgiving❣️

AMY...... we both got our ears lifted this week also......haircuts in case you have not heard that term.  Mine is pretty short in preparation for my surgery and after.  I already have quite a time trying to have any kind of a "DO" with my limited lef shoulders ability to move.  Hope you are quilting today and relaxing.

Blessings to all🙏

Another late good morning to all! Chores, meet and greets, and coffee are finished, so I'm back on the computer.

We got word today that Dora is not doing well, and I can't imagine Alan without her. They've been in hospice for a while now with only limited family singular visits.

We only had a small amount of snow overnight; the expected snow inches never materialized, but more is expected on Wednesday and into Thursday.

I cut my hair yesterday from a bob into a pixie. I started doing it myself in 2021 during Covid; before that, I would sometimes trim here and there.

Joanne, I found these different recipes for you;

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=recipes+with+ground+pork+sausage&t=newext&atb=v398-1&ia=recipes

Special Weather Statement issued November 12 at 2:54AM AKST by NWS Fairbanks

...Confidence Continues to Increase for Snowfall Sunday Night through Thursday...

A strong frontal boundary is expected to bring snowy conditions for most of the Interior Sunday night and into Monday. Widespread snowfall of 2 to 5 inches possible with locally heavier amounts of 5 to 7 inches west of Fairbanks through Tuesday. Gusty west winds along snow and blowing snow will reduce visibility over higher terrain north of Fairbanks.

A secondary storm is then expected to track into the Interior on Wednesday resulting in renewed potential for additional accumulating snowfall through Thursday.

Today turned out much bettter than I thought it would. Met with friends and exchanged goodies then home to try and find the person for the quilt delivery, Bingo  found her and quilt delivered! I then hide in my sewing room working on another quilt...this one is going to be fun on the eyes, have to make sure everything is placed just right before I sew.

MaryPage, you have a lovely family!!

Patricia, our weather was grand, beautiful sunny day, not too cold and no wind to contend with.

Jenny, happy to read your ears are lifted. Happy Birthday to Bob.

MG, I love young beet greens  with a bit of butter .

Enjoy your evening..

Oak Island has started back up and I find that interesting to watch.

Think a pot of butternut squash is in order to make today..neighbour is off her pins and will send some over to her.

Kyle just said it is snowballing out now..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I do feel rested this morning.  Cooper has arrived, had his breakfast and took me for a walk!  We did a half circle and saved the rest for later!

Today is a trip to the Drs. office for blood work and then laundry when I get back home.  We're also making a stop at the bank to get me some cash.  I'm one of those old-fashioned people who like to shop with cash!  At least I know what I got and for how much and I don't have to wait for it to show up on my account!

PLEASE, keep the snow in Canada and Alaska!  I'm not ready for that!  We had a heavy frost last night and the temp hasn't come out of the freezing zone and isn't planning to do so all day!

I've been changing some things around in the kitchen.  The last couple times I needed to use my mixer I noticed that it's getting heavier and heavier.  I wonder how they do that!  Now it's in a place where I don't have to do anything but slide it out to use it.  So it can go on and get heavier if it chooses or it can just sit there and wait for me to need it!

While the laundry is doing, I'm going to wash up a couple of floors and the throw rogs that try to protect them.  I also have to clean off a shelf in the freezer so I can make my Christmas Candy.  That means I'm going to have to eat a bunch of stuff!!!  Anybody wanna help me do that?

I guess I better get started!  I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good mid-morning from the Interior, where we're surrounded by snow but only received two inches. There will be more if the forecasts are accurate: several follow-up storms will sweep through the area until at least Friday.

Jane, you might add New York and New England to your keep-away list.

There will be no funeral as both wished to be remembered in how we treated and loved each other.

AMY, the doggies don't take to having their nails done, do they!  I can understand that.  It's something I never really enjoyed myself!  Keep trying!

Morning everyone!

Patricia, I am sorry to hear about your friends.

MaryPage, what an amazing family you have.

Yesterday I visited another apartment complex. It was a nice day, not too chilly. The complex is small, only four buildings tucked away in a quiet corner very near to a large retirement complex. A little more expensive than the first one I looked at previously, and a little less space, but it looks so much larger and I like the layout, too. I suspect the difference is that the other sample apartment seemed darker and was probably over decorated. Both complexes are close to shopping, restaurants, and other amenities. Unlike the first complex, it does not include extras like a fitness center, basketball court, swimming pool, etc. One of the reviewers of this complex said many of the residents are older. Sounds almost perfect. The only thing I don't much care for is that the washer and dryer are stacked. The other apartment complex offers a full size washer and dryer.

Well, it is a good thing I didn't bother to do any raking yet. Leaf collection is supposed to be in full swing, but I have not seen or heard a peep from them. This year, the township newsletter said they would be sweeping the day after trash day which can mean either Saturday or Monday, depending on how you interpret that. All other years, the newsletter had designated Monday. Well, I shouldn't be surprised at the no show. They never have come around to pick up yard waste. I have always had to resort to bagging it for the trash people. I complained to the township once, and the response was that yeah, they sometimes miss sections. No, try always, lady.

Today is laundry day, some general cleaning, and another dive into boxes and such in search of stuff to get rid of one way or another. Even if I don't move, it will be nice to be decluttered. It is slower going than I thought.

I'm sorry, Patricia.  Whether they are family or friends, it is hard to lose them.  But, how fitting it is that long married couples should go together.  Neither husband nor wife is left to loneliness and grief.

Cloudy day here and chilly.  I have to complete the list and order groceries for David to pick up tomorrow.  Other than that I don't plan to do anything but make a broccolli, mac and cheese casserole this afternoon......maybe.

Take care, All.

Good morning from a snowier Interior at 19. More snow is expected on Thursday, then a sharp temperature drop on Saturday with clear skies.

Thank you for the commiserations. They were together for a long time; they were the leaders of our small group and opened their home to all. They had land that they gardened up in the hills until recently and owned a shoe store before retiring years ago. Many of the group started as employees and stayed as friends.

Last summer, they sold their land after moving into a nursing home attached to the hospital, and after Alan's heart attack and Dora's failing health, hospice came to them. Not too long ago, Alan was unconscious and was moved to the hospital proper, and everyone prepared for Alan to leave us. No one expected Dora, back in the nursing home, to not wake up one morning and Alan in the hospital to pass soon after. The rest of us are still a bit rudderless.

Good Night for last night and Good Morning for today!  No Cooper this morning but Frankie said she might be over to give him a bath later today!  Cathy will be stopping by to do some paper work a bit later.  She's now on most of my accounts and able to answer questions and sign papers.  I never liked that job particularly and now I truly dislike it!  I'd rather be in the kitchen making up a new casserole from leftovers in the fridge!  Just kidding really but it's nice to have help!  And I think she inherited all my mother's office skills!

It's cold here!  Every morning there's been frost on the ground!  The nights have gone into the freezing zone and a couple of the days stayed there, too!  Right now it's 30 degrees out there but it's supposed to make it to 60 later today!  Amazing weather for November!

Have a good day Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way!

Happy Birthday, Don!

Thanks for posting Lloyd's car update, Amy

Lloyd, I actually didn't realize Chrysler still exists, so I looked up Chrysler Pacifica. I don't know if you bought a brand new one or an older model, but the 2023 Pacifica sure looks nice and sturdy, and it has all wheel drive too.

Yesterday I spent about four hours over at my sister's house, did a little clean up, took the trash out, and did two loads of laundry for her. Today a friend is taking her to her two-week post-op appointment with the Dr. She is really hoping that he will give her the go-ahead to drive and/or not to have to wear the back brace.

Cooper ate his breakfast, took me for a walk, had his treat and is camping out by my office door!

LLOYD, sounds like you've been a busy guy...some good...some not so good!  Now with this nice new car, take it easy!

AMY, have a good day!  I'm sure Kyle's customer will be delighted with the purchase and more that pleased with her relative's response!  Too bad we can't see a picture of the item!

MarsGal, sounds like your sister is progressing.  I wish her well!

Now I'm off to get my day started!  Make yours a good one!

This has been a full day, starting with making pastry before we headed to town. Had coffee/tea with friends then shopping. Picked up another 1/2 bushel of Cortland apples and now some are in pies. One pie went home with friends and the other...is cooling for dessert. Will put some in the hidey hole if you like apple pie. Laundry  in the dryer and I  would like to say it could wait till morning but that means ironing the wrinkles out of some....

MG, Crysler discontinued the Town and Country and brought out the Pacifica. Hope your sister gets good news.

Jane, they had quite a load in their van, two dogs, one cabinet/night stand and groceries and Kyle gave them a stool also!! Plus the hot apple pie!

Better go get that laundry out then I hope I can sit.........maybe..

Good, significantly late morning at 13 past 11 a.m.

I'd gotten my chores and an exceedingly weep and greet this morning. It will take a while until we pass the worst of this grief. It's group losing your parents a second time.

I've read/noted/saved my emails, deleted some computer debris, and downloaded more PSP tubes, and that brings me up to date; nothing new or exciting to others, but such is my life.

Sometimes, I wish I had a Cooper to get me out each day, at least for a time. But more like a Maggie that my family had before I left home. Maggie, who looked like a fluffier version of Eddie on Frasier, was a brilliant dog.

My Dad would hold her on his lap while the grandkids hid, and then he told Maggie to find. He told her to look in the toilet once, and I swear she did.

When she found someone, she would play growl, leap on them for a brief cuddle, and then off to the next one.

I was babysitting her once when my folks were away, and I had come home from work and put my key in the lock. She gave the most low, rumbling, ferocious growl I had ever heard before, and I quickly spoke up, telling her it was me. She switched to an eager whine and jumped at the door.

She passed away when I was in Texas.

Amy, I'll be there for some of that apple pie with a cinnamon shaker in hand!

I swear you folks are so busy at 2-3 a.m. my time. At least Joanne waits until almost four!   ;)  ::)

Thanks for the sympathy my friends!  I know that even when death is shocking, all you can do is pray and accept!

I'm finishing my lunch right now.  Cooper is begging.  Then I have to take a shower and get ready to go to the local high school play.  My granddaughter is the property manager and she's taking over my high school role for the plays!  Cathy and I go every year and then wait after to slap her on the back for a job well done!

Good morning from a cold five-degree Interior with expected snow overnight. Nothing new here: chores, meet and greets, and tending to Farrah, who has come to expect a specific routine and lets you know if you're not keeping up.

I can't believe how late in the year it is. So much has happened, so many changes since 2020 that the world seems to have evolved faster and more on a curve than I remember before.

We are back into cooler temps now, sure enjoyed the warmer ones while it lasted.

A day of rest here, hope to get the rest of the rows sewn then the first border can go on the quilt. Toss up of which quilt to start next, leaning towards the bears first but we shall see.

Jane, if we don't slow down on eating your cole slaw I shall have to make more before winter is gone! Pairs well with everything, even mixed in a salad!

Patricia, I had to laugh at Farrah telling you your not keeping up. The antics of these two dogs when treat time comes is entertainment on its own. Finally they both will just get frustrated with me and bark for their treat!! That is after the head bobbing, sneezing and trips to the kitchen where their treats are.

Jenny, how are you doing?

Phyllis,I need another pot of soup and your 15 bean soup may be the next one!

MG, how is your sister doing?

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Sue is doing great, but she is taking it nice and slow so as not go get too carried away and accidently cause problems. She is not wearing the brace so much now, does her exercise like clockwork, and is not going to drive for a while yet although I think the doctor gave her the okay. She expects to hear from the physical therapist soon to set up a schedule for that. I found out that not only does Sue have scoliosis, which she knew about for a few years, but she has a birth defect where the spine does not fuse at the bottom after birth, which she didn't know about. The surgeon fixed that, so now she will light up the security devices at the airport.

Sue's friend, Dody, is coming over for Thanksgiving with a roasted chicken. We expect she will be bringing practically the whole dinner. She loves to cook. I have a coconut cream pie on order to take.

Good morning. I've been visiting old friends and remembering good times over at the S&F's senior gathering site; I've so many good online memories and only met three in person.

Amy, I understood everything but the sneezing with your two and treats.

I had a terrier, Muffin, who came prenamed as he was a very masculine dog for a name like that. When he wanted a treat, he'd sit below its shelf and bark until you gave him one! He loved kids more than adults because he could roughhouse with them.

Then I had Henry, a black lab who failed Birddog 101 and obedience training. To make matters worse, he had an aversion to water! Both his parent were blue ribbon champions, and poor Henry only wanted to play and cuddle. He never understood so many angry people who'd invested so much money in him. I had to talk my Dad into that one, as the owner planned to shoot him!

I remember we took him up the Salcha River, and Dad put Henry on a beaver dam and moved a few feet away. Henry cried and tiptoed over the dam as we called him to swim to us. Finally, we had to get him.

My friends and I would harness him to a sled, and he'd pull us all over our neighborhood; he and all the kids were great friends. We'd also make a starting line and had him wait as the kid got a headstart before letting him loose and beating the kid to the finish line. He lived a long time before getting loose and he got hit by a car when I was at school.

Farrah gets treats after breakfast and before bed. Of course, sometimes, when I want her to stop doing something, I will sink to bribery.

Good Morning!  I was so tired last night that I didn't even think of checking out here but I guess I wasn't really missed!  Today will be busy.  Cindy is flying into Baltimore from Oklahoma and Christy is meeting her.  They will be coming up here to spend Thanksgiving with us.  I'll have all 4 of my kids together for Thanksgiving!  HOORAY!!

I better get back to my prep for guests because both of my travelers will be staying with me and since Cindy is a "work-from-home" accountant, she'll be taking over my computer while she's here to keep up on the job!  I don't know what that might do to my computer use so if I don't show up, don't worry about me!

MARSGAL, I'm so glad to hear that your sister's health is improving and that she's mindng her doctor's advice.  I wish her well!

PATRICIA, you've been a busy gal!  It's nice to stay in touch with friends!

I better get started.  Cooper will be arriving soon and then Cathy will be picking me up to go the the grocery store and stop for a haircut!  I wish you all a good day and (just in case) a Happy Holiday, too!

We need to make a trip to the dump. I need to pay a bill and then home to work about. Such an exciting day!

Jane, enjoy your family time!!You will have a busy household. David is on his way to Virginia  this time.

Patricia, Babe will try to "speak" but ends up sneezing. Perky ears ,glaring look and we need our cookies body language.

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good late Interior morning, where it is nine degrees and cloudy. This is the time of year when you don't want to see the sun. If the sun is out, it means that the clouds headed out, and any heat dispersed. A clear winter's day means cold in the Arctic.

I did my usual morning chores, had my meet and greets, and argued with Farrah; she doesn't like fish and only eats the always-available dry out of necessity. Since I buy her canned food in sets, I don't always notice if it has fish. I usually have four serving days out of each can and return it to the can if it isn't promptly eaten. This means no after-breakfast treats if she doesn't eat her wet food.

Amy she stalks me literally when I'm preparing her meals. Peering around corners and peeking out from cabinets to tables, she has a headstart to her feeding tray when I've finished her water and food. It's my turn not to run over her when she's moving to the tray. Collisions are never pretty and are usually painful.

I'm glad you explained Babe's sneezing. Farah is usually silent, with only a few sounds, but her eyes are expressive, especially when displeased. She purrs, but you'd have to pet or scratch her to feel it.

Jane, you are going to be one very busy host over Thanksgiving. Enjoy having all the kids together for a meal again.

Our small group has an abundance of turkeys as Krogers and Safeway both had their buy so much and get a free turkey deal. So, the host posed a riddle this year, and the winner brings the turkey. It will be a solemn one this year, a remembrance of times past and gratitude for who and what we have left.

Good morning, late again. Amy, we have zero presently and clear skies, which means it will drop further with no clouds to hold the heat in.

You and Jane are both intimidating with all the energy you have! I wake up thinking about doing something, and my body lies huddled under the blankets. The next thing I know is that it's a couple of hours later.

Farrah used to come for a time or two, joining me on the bed in her preferred area between the pillow and wall. Since her past illness, she doesn't wait for me to use my bed. If she's not on her cat stand, she will often be beside the pillow or at the foot of the bed.

She rarely rests on the ground these days when there are more comfy places to be! Her eleven cat years equals sixty in human years, so neither of us is especially mobile anymore.

Yesterday, we lost our last friend in Hospice, so that brings our group to only nine. Five women, four men, and only one married couple left. Not too long ago, we were almost twenty strong with the majority coupled. We're becoming less a group than survivors.

Good snowy morning..

We were blessed with about 1 1/2 inches of snow...maybe 2 at the most here.
No dancing  with MR SB but a few swipes with the shovel should take care of it. No sun to put the run on it either.

Yesterday was fun, we looked at a new to us van and when ready(safety check done) we will go and get it. On the way home rain, then freezing rain making the driving interesting .It was a toss up of which way to come home and happy we chose the way we went as a tractor trailer jack knifed shutting down the road we were going to take.

Today is coasting...after some chores are taken care of.

Patricia, I would love to snuggle back under but with two dogs it is next to impossible. My energy at the moment could be put in a thimble..maybe just maybe a nap is in line later on in the day. Enjoy the the remaining friends..hold dear the time spent with them.

Better scare the clothes and get into them.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning AMY and PATRICIA and anyone else who shows up in the Soda Shoppe!  I've been up a bit, made coffee and took Cooper for his morning walk...or did he take me?  It's going to be a busy day again.

PATRICIA,  so sorry about your friends that are gone but I'm sure it makes you appreciate even more the ones who are still there!

AMY, please keep the snow where you are!  I'm sure glad you chose the route home that you did and that you avoided the truck accident!

We had a successful shopping trip yesterday and a nice lunch out in a little restaurant that Cathy knew about.  Everyone left the store with bags....some personal, some Christmas gifts!

Today is pie baking day!  I'm making pumpkin pies and Cindy has a new recipe that looks delicious so the house will be smelling so good!  Also, granddaughter Courtney will be arriving sometime today!  Full House!  Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow at Cathy's house!

Maybe I'll get back in and maybe I won't!  Enjoy your day!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning. It's seven thirty-eight and minus eight.

For once, I was up at the usual time, fed, and showered, and I heard the coffee maker ding.

No meet and greets yet, but they'll be there in an hour or so.

Amy, I would lie awake and seemingly paralyzed, brain sluggish after shutting off the alarm. I've had a time trying to get back on a seven-to-ten schedule when everything threw me off.

My sister returned home to Idaho yesterday after having a wonderful time in Boston with friends. This was her second time visiting, and she said it was better than the first visit.

Today will be busy as I finish my contribution to our Friendsgiving tomorrow. I'm expecting a turkey box for a friend who has to be somewhere, and I'm her designated drop zone.

I have two turkeys now due to a spend so much; get a free turkey promotion, and I'll probably have unwanted leftovers tomorrow. Perhaps I'll sneak a second turkey into her box...Hmmm.

This has been a crazy day! I got my TK meal contribution made and explained to my friend that she could not leave a 19.66 LB turkey overnight on the counter to thaw. I invited her to join us tomorrow since it would be 4 to 6 days before it was fully thawed in the refrigerator.

Her TK box was nice; besides the turkey, she had the requisite pumpkin pie, canned green beans, canned corn, celery, carrots, onions, and potatoes. I had thought it was from state aid, but it was from the Salvation Army. They delivered door to door, which surprised me. She had put my name and apt. # next to her name as her... picker-upper?  :)

I cleaned the kitty litter, cleaned the kitchen, washed out the garbage can, and took the trash out, along with several bags and boxes left by those too lazy to take it out. There is a sign out requesting those who can to take others' trash out with theirs, but I know people are taking advantage. I'm officially going solo from now on, per the trash details.

When I cleaned the bathroom, I noticed my legs felt as if they were vibrating, and I became dizzy whenever I put my head down. I have to stop rushing and know the signs, such as shortness of breath, limbs vibrating, shaking, and dizziness, before I have another fall and accident. It creeps up on you when you're not paying attention. I need to buy some blood pressure cuffs to have at home.

Good morning.
We will get to a high of 37° today , along with high winds .

Work around home today, lots to do just hope energy keeps up. We did remove the snow from the driveway yesterday , wet snow that was heavy to shovel. Last year our first snow was also a wet heavy one but a lot more that even the plow truck had a time to get rid of it.

Jane, enjoy having all your family home with you......you are truly blessed with a great family.

Patricia, mercy you were busy!Hope you slept well last night as you will be busy again today.

Callie, so good to see you.

Phyllis, hope you and David are enjoying a turkey dinner.

Jenny,  bustling around your home getting a Thanksgiving meal prepared?

Lloyd, Happy Thanksgiving to you and Nancy.

Rick,Happy Thanksgiving to you and your son.

mycheal, we have lots to be thankful for onthis side of the world.

Michael, thank you for giving us a home to enjoy our friends.

Bubble,as you know prayers for peace on this day and always. Just wish the powers that be would listen.

Enjoy your day......is that turkey cooking I smell? :))

Stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I repeat everything that AMY said to all of you!  That was a very nice text and it saves me some time if I follow in her footsteps.  I have to take Cooper for his morning walk and then get busy.

I made my pies last night and the they were so tempting that we ate half of the one I decided that I didn't need to take to Cathy's.  Cindy's taking a pie and her daughter, Courtney is bringing one with her when she comes today.  We're not having our dinner until 5:30 because Cathy's Son and his "soon-to-be" wife can't get here until mid-afternoon!

I had a full house last night....2 daughters, on Son-in'Law and two doggies!  Now I have to go take Cooper for a walk.  My local son was going on his usual Sunday hike and his two sisters joined him this morning.

I better get moving!  I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and many more to come!

Starting out at 16°v with a high of 26° to come later on.

Just working around home today.Need to make another pie and will bake a triple chocolate brownie along side of it.

Need to get back into the purging mood and get rid, pass on items no longer needed or used.

Good morning from a warming out of the minuses Interior! Today we have nine degrees and will be warming into the early twenties.

Yesterday was very close to Jane's if you substitute nine long-time friends for kids and seven guests for grands! We spent the entire time eating, reminiscing, playing poker and rummy, eating more, reminiscing, laughing through a few tears, and eating great food and snacks. Everyone stayed to help clean up, wrap up leftovers for those wanting, and generally re-establishing why we were a group initially.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

Patricia, sounds like a fantastic group of friends you have. Nice to get together to reminisce and enjoy each others company. Maybe plan more of these when weather permits.

Good morning at ten fifty and 15 degrees in the Interior! I woke up at seven but after chores, meet and greets, and trying to placate Farrah because we're out of treats and I'm too lazy to get more. I decided to have a little me time before rejoining the world.

Although some might argue that I have a surfeit of "me time", I need scheduling except I've tried all the planners, stickers, schedules, suggestions, and Pinterest ideas only to abandon them all.

What works is a simple yellow legal pad or lately one of those teachers' black, spiral bound, planners with the big blocks for days of the week. Especially if a bill or important event is coming up that you need to track.

It was one of our Thanksgiving day conversations while the guys were in the basement watching some game on TV. None of us seem to understand or want or use the popular plans or ideas for scheduling our lives. I'm the only one who has a digital grocery list that works simultaneously on my devices. Most use paper calendars or whiteboards in their kitchens and take paper lists to the grocery store. None are on social media.

So far today has been interesting. Meeting up with our friends and I thought I was the only one exchanging items I found out I was wrong. She gave me a fabic panel of Australia /New Zealand animals to put into a quilt, not knowing I had given her a box of fabric containing  fabic to go along with it. Long story short she is returning the pieces that will work with this panel. On the way home I had to brake hard for three turkeys that decided the other side of the road looked better. All is well, they made it and I didn't have to clean turkeys :))

Patricia, I can have a schedule  planned and it can go out the window in the blink of an eye.  I do keep a calendar with items that need doing/calling or picked up.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe November 1 , 2023
Post by: patricia19 on November 25, 2023, 04:29:34 PM
Amy, you and your friend reminded me of that O Henry story, The Gift of the Magi.

I know what you mean about flying out the window or in my case, an acute case of laziness.

I prefer the simplicity of only listing an amount or an identifying name in the corresponding date block.

A friend jots the amount coming in on a calendar date and then marks and subtracts the important re-occurring outgoing amounts on the calendar on the date they become due.

Another does the same in a small 5" notebook or some a small 5"-8" day planner, only a name or amount.

Those who are into multiple planners, Pinterest, or other ways to track your life probably don't follow through either. I can see those types following every incoming "cool" or new trend, making others richer.

I see keeping a work listing of meetings, consultations, and items required for your job. But, not all the extras.

Jane, miss your posts but know you are enjoying your family there.

Patricia, on the farm I used a calendar to keep track of births be it calves, lambs or colts. One ewe Grannie I really had to watch dates as she would always give me 3 lambs but couldn't deliver on her own. I would get the first one give it to her to look after, get the other two, wrap them in towels and head to the house (warmer) After a bit I would take the two back and by then she could habndle two more.

Better get on with the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jane, - Don't leave, or hide. The posts are thin enough. I've had a "health" problem and am not using my right arm if avoidable. I look in every day, multiple times. I'm sure there are others doing the same. Having spent so many years in the "Speak when spoken too" mode, I find it difficult to change. Something to do with teaching old dogs.
Winter has arrived here. Finally got some killing frost temp's. 26°the other night. - Die Ragweed.

Snow did need cleaning up, dislike the hard chunks at the end of the driveway so gave them a ride on the shovel. Snow has stopped for now but more later this evening.

Rick, sorry you are dealing with health problems and hope they are soon over with. I think too that a lot of folks are getting over Thanksgiving and just need to get back into the "groove" of posting.  When I get a moment I too sit and look in ,not always posting. Well I'm expecting a Workman to come this morning to repair my kitchen oven. I will let David Deal with him. It is a cold morning here and I am hugging the recliner with furry blanket over me. Take care everybody.

Nice to see you, PHYLLIS....you too RICK and AMY!  I cleaned out the fridge and made a pot of soup in the crock pot with leftovers and a jar of home-canned chicken broth.  I'll let you know how it turns out!  I hope it's edible!

Time for lunch and then a walk with the Cooper-Snoop!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning, I've seen to my chores and fed Farrah and myself while doing my morning meet and greets. It's interesting to see that even the ones uninclined to continue our morning check-ins have started doing them again.

Jane, I have nothing new to report and even less from yesterday which was tiring but a few items were checked off my list. I still have one more turkey to cook, a 20-pounder so I'll do that today, then try to find as many different ways to have turkey as I can find.

The local stores ran a spend so much get a turkey free campaign this year so everyone has an extra turkey if they hadn't managed to donate one.

According to the news, our snowpack levels are 63% of normal, and the Interior is drier than parts closer to a coast and a maritime climate. Presently we're experiencing some wind and icy roads with warnings for folks to be careful. Temperatures are expected to drop into the minuses for December so no real snow is expected until March when it warms up again.

Cooper went home and I'm on my own again.  The "Fridge Special" in the crock pot was delicious!  I'll probably never have it again because granddaughter Courtney brought stuff from her Uncle and Aunt's Thanksgiving and There was nothing familiar.  When she went bach home to Westchester, she said she was just going to leave it.  So some of it's in the pot.

I'm slowly getting decorated.  It's not as much fun as it used to be but once it's done, I'll enjoy it!  I have WAAAAAAAAY to many decorations for this little house.  I have to decide what's important.  I seem to have about a dozen knitted Christmas Stockings.  You don't suppose Santa would fill ALL of them if I hung them up, do you?

Better keep moving.  Nice to see all of you.  PATRICIA, try to stay warm!  RICK, you stay warm too.  I know it's cold where you are because it's cold where I am and your not that far away!  PHYLLIS, I'd think it might be a bit warmer where you are because you're South but I guess the mountains hold the cold air.  Keep that blanket wrapped around you!  AMY, keep the snow on your side of the border!  We were supposed to have flurries twice today but I sure didn't see any!  Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way

It is nice of all of you to send me some cold weather but you really don't have to go to the trouble.
Woke up to temp in the 20's this morning. Just to the north of us it was in the teens.  Brrr!  Please don't take the trouble to send snow.  ;)

A very nice guy from the appliance repair  came out and fixed the  oven yesterday.  I thanked him and he returned the thanks and then he wanted some money!  I could have skipped that part but since it was cheaper than a new stove I decided to pay him.  :2funny:  Now, I guess I'll have to cook on it.  ::)

Take care,  all.

Well, PHYLLIS, at least when you cook on the stove, it'll put some "warm" in your house.  And I didn't send you the cold weather.  It's still in the low 20s here!  And as soon as I finish my lunch, Cooper will be ready to take me for a walk in that cold!

Good morning from the Interior at 13 degrees thankfully not a minus. We're at only 63% of our "normal" snowpack with mainly icy roads.

Surprising as it might seem, our warmer weather comes from Siberia and our coldest from Cansda but that has to do with the oceans between Siberia and the distance between them and us. In 2022 and 2021, we had record-breaking snow, breaking new records practically daily.

In 2021, Anchorage snow plows drove north into the Interior with fleets of dump trucks driving the snow before them. That was an epic over 400-mile mountain journey. This year they've had the snowiest winter in seventy years as of November 15th. This year they have a shortage of snow plows while we have ice.

Hello! And Good Night!  It's been a long day and I'm tired way down past my toenails!

I made meat loaf and scalloped potatoes and baked beans for supper today and there's lots of leftovers!  If you're hungry, help yourself!  I'm going to bed early and sleeping in tomorrow.  Frankie is off so I won't have Cooper.  Maybe I'll finish my decorations.....and maybe I won't!

I wish you all a peaceful night and a happy tomorrow!  Make your day a good one!

Good morning, another late day after an even later night. I've done all I'm going to today and it's onto the computer to see how others are faring.

I'm sure it won't last long and some needed reason or chore will pop up, but until it does...

It's a beautiful day in London Ontario: cold but beautiful. I am fortunate enough to live in green  belt area and I get to see a lot of wildlife. A while ago I saw three deer outside my window. Usually there are only two of them, but I guess mama deer decided to treat her children to an exciting outing and brought her whole family along.  I just love watching them cavort and wonder why hunters take such pleasure in killing them.

Hello Everyfriend!  This day turned out to be something I never expected.  I got up a bit later than usual and almost my first text was daughter Cathy (my personal accountant) telling me that she'd had some answers and needed to get on my computer and check out some stuff.  She said she'd be here around 10:30 and when she was finished, we could go do some shopping.  Well, she showed up about 9:15 just as I was coming out of the bedroom after showering and dressin and straightening up the bedroom.  She started asking questions and then sat down in front of my computer and worked on my stuff for about an hour plus.  Then we took off to do some errands.

On the way to the Amish Store, we stopped and had lunch and after the Amish Store we came home and she did a few accounting things that she hadn't thought of earlier.  When she left, I put away the groceries, read the paper, did the crossword puzzle and then made a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys" for the next couple weeks breakfasts!  Whew!  They're in the oven finishing up now and then they'll have to be packed and put away and I'll collapse!

RICK, did you like the meat loaf?  AMY, here I am....finally!  PATRICIA, keep on keeping on!  Radioman, I often see deer walking free in the country and I've always wondered why people want to shoot them.  But I must admit, they are good eating and if some didn't get shot, Pennsylvania would be overrun!

I just remembered something else I have to do before the sitting time takes over.  I made a note  Also took the egg thingys out of the oven.  I'll have to pack them up when they're cool!  There's always something!

Something Cathy was doing today, she was asking me questions about changing it and I said how long will it stay changed?  She said "about 15 years".  I just stared at her.  She said "What"?  And I said, "Do you think I'll still be around when I'm 103?"  You'll never guess her answer....she said,
The way you're going, you'll still be around when you're 120 or more!"

I guess I better get the garbage out heat up the meat loaf and scalloped taters for supper.  Then I'm going to QUIT for the day!  Finish off your day well and make tomorrow special!

Good evening to ALL.

NOT a lot to tell from here other than I had my pre-op with my surgeon and I have been cleared for my ACDF, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion... surgery on 12/6/2023.

I made a very tasty Turkey Noodle soup from the carcass  of our delicious TG Turkey.  I shared some with one of our neighbors and she was so complimentary .  Sure made me feel good.

Today is my Birthday and I have received so many nice wishes  from friends and family.  Bob took me to one of my favorite places for dinner.  Pappadeaux.  We had a delightful waiter and it was extra nice.

Saturday we will go to our #3 sons for our Jonah's 5th Birthday Party.  After the kiddos all leave we will celebrate my birthday.  On Sunday we are going to The Nutcracker Ballet and out for another Birthday celebration with Dr. Dave and his new bride and their children.  Looking forward to that.

Miss keeping up with EVERYFRIEND but I will try to do better soon.   Sitting and trying  on this iPad is very uncomfortable for my neck, and it will remain to be seen how I will be able to do it after my surgery and the HARD neck brace I will have to wear for four weeks before I transition into a soft one for 4 more weeks.

Trying to get our home decorated before my surgery.  Seems it is going rather slowly....but we will finish tomorrow.

Good night and HAPPY DECEMBER to ALL‼️ Good evening to ALL.
