.
Solitude, though it may be silent as light, is like light, the mightiest of agencies; for solitude is essential to man. All men come into this world alone; all leave it alone.
-Thomas De Quincey, writer (15 Aug 1785-1859)
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
They asked me how I knew
My true love was true, oh
I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied
They said someday you'll find
All who love are blind, oh
When your heart's on fire
You must realize smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love
Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide, oh
So I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes
We were made to enjoy music, to enjoy beautiful sunsets, to enjoy looking at the billows of the sea and to be thrilled with a rose that is bedecked with dew... Human beings are actually created for the transcendent, for the sublime, for the beautiful, for the truthful... and all of us are given the task of trying to make this world a little more hospitable to these beautiful things.
Henry Jackson van Dyke
Kind words-
Kind words they are always priceless,
from one who is sincere,
Kind to appreciates the feelings,
of friends they hold so dear.
Kind words they can be healing,
if one feels low or down,
Kind words can ease a troubled brow,
and smooth away that frown.
Kind words can ignite a spark of hope,
which from there it may inspire.
Kind words can raise, from ashes of doubt.
a small comforting glowing fire.
Kind words are something we all need.
as the path of life unfolds.
Kind words that sleep within our hearts,
are the goodness in our souls.
Richard
I saw our new month as I was making my final check before
Hope everyone is sleeping/has slept well and is having/had pleasant dreams.
Good morning...
A new month already! Seems time is on a race and we need to keep up.
A day of rest here,I hope to play in the sewing room for a bit.
We will go into town for items I forgot for Janes cole slaw and more jars!
Bubble, thank you for the new start. One really knows the meaning of time flies when they are older. Seems we just got into Sept and now it is Oct.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning to Everyfriend who is here already and tose who come by later!
I'm having my breakfast and then I'll be getting ready for church. Cathy will drop me off there and a friend will bring me home after! I wish you all a good day. I'm planning on one myself. Cooper will not be here with me today but he might be by to take a bath in my tub sometime today! We shall see!
Good morning everyone.
Good morning Rick, how is the flooding in your area? Hope it has receded.
My morning didn't go as planned but that is ok.The neighbour is cutting down a cherry tree and since he doesn't burn wood we are to get it.I heard a chainsaw going and sure enough he was reducing the chunks into smaller pieces. Grabbed the wheelbarrow and that was our morning hauling wood.
Forgot to say, there was a beautiful rainbow this morning!!
The rains have stopped and it is a nice sun shiny day. But from local chatter I understand some areas are still impassible. While being on the top of the hill may not be good in thunder storms, it sure was good when the sky opened.
This has not been a good week and am hoping the coming one will be better.
OK, it sounds like things are looking better for most of you! They're better around here, too!
I'm on my way to burrow into the haystack for the night and then get on the move early to meet the Cooper-Snoop! He'll be arriving around 6:45 a.m. tomorrow and he'll be looking for his breakfast! I'm ready!!
Today was my Great Grandson Mikey's 3rd birthday! I got a picture of him blowing out candles. If I can figure out how to get it from my phone to the computer, I'll email it to BUBBLE to post for me. He sure as heck doesn't spend much time in one place! He's on the move all the time he's awake!
Now I wish you all a good night and a good tomorrow. Make it your own in every way!
Jane, there should be an app on your phone either to place the photo in an online photo gallery or to email the image to yourself or perhaps Bubble.
My cell has an online photo gallery and links to online ones on computers. I'm also able to send it as an email attachment. These should be standard with an Android cell.
I'm unfamiliar with iPhones, so if that's your type, perhaps someone here could help.
Good Morning to any and all who poke heads in here today!
Thanks for trying PATRICIA! My phone is an IPhone and it's a kind of oldish one. My daughter showed me how to email myself once and I did it....once. Then by the time I wanted to do it again, I forgot how. I might just text Cindy and ask her to email that one to me!
I'm waiting for Cooper's arrival and then the day takes off. I've had my breakfast and I'm almost finished with my morning coffee! Have a good day Everyfriend! Make it your own in every way!
Good morning...
Another busy day here. Not sure if my wants to do will win out today. Told neighbour I will help pile the brush on his trailer while he cut the limbs off and I want to do Janes cole slaw. Will just have to wait till the end of day to see what did get done. :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning; at 8:58 and 33 degrees, we have rain but no snow. Now they're saying starting around in the next four hours. I've been up since seven and have only made coffee, always first thing, and general daily upkeep. Today will be as yesterday and like the day before. Tomorrow, I will be out to the stores for bill paying and back home again.
Last night, I made my favorite cold-weather comfort meal. I deboned two pork chops, cut them and one medium potato into chunks, added one chopped orange pepper, and half of a yellow onion, and sprayed some olive oil on the pieces in a hot wok. I ground lots of black pepper and sea salt and added a no-salt creole seasoning blend while stirring the pieces as they browned. It's the perfect comfort food and a great base to be creative with.
It's 5:52 p.m., and there's not a cloud in the blue skies. The trees are colorful with few dropped leaves, so I checked the weather to see where the snow either went or didn't go...to my surprise, I found this,
"Snowfall has ended around Fairbanks and while there could be some clearing skies to follow as the system moves east, expect another round of snow Tuesday morning from the west and spreading east throughout the day. Snow totals of around 1 to 2 inches is expected for many locations, but confidence in snow total accumulation Tuesday is low to moderate, especially as this next wave moves further east.
Well, it's been "one of those days"!!! I was busy all day but I have no idea what I did all day! All I can pin down is that Cooper and I took 2 walks and Cathy and I want to WalMart.
PATRICIA, is the news saying that you got an invisible snow storm in your city? That's what it sounded like to me!
I'm heading off to the haystack and I'm going to burrow in so far that I won't be out until dawn tomorrow. I have to be up and attem by 6:45 because Cooper will be arriving!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow! Nighty night!
Jane, that's what it sounded like to me! I went and took another couple of photos just to be sure! Evidently, the National Weather Service got their latitude and longitude confused. ??? ::)
Good morning..
Today will not be as busy as yesterday. Helped the neighbour load 3 loads of branches to go to the dump, pickled the last of the beets and chopped up all but that cabbage and carrots for Janes cole slaw which is my chore for today.
better get started on the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyone who stops by! I'm off and running this morning. I got up and hurried around getting ready to meet Cooper at 6:45. It's so foggy out there (still) that you can hardly see past 2 houses to the corner. Frankie said she had to really drive slowly on the way here!
Cooper had his breakfast and then took me for a nice long walk. We met his favorite buddy on this morning's walk. They rub noses and wag tails and say their "good mornings" and then they both go on their way!
This morning I have some more ripe tomatoes to deal with and some laundry. So far, that's it but I'm sure other things will poke their heads up and demand attention!
Make this day a good one for you. AMY, enjoy the cole slaw. I just had some yesterday! It's so easy to make when you have the jars ready! And it's really tasty. I usually have something else to add and it's never the same thing twice.
PATRICIA, did you ever find out where your snow went?
Have a Great Day today!
Good morning, everyone. It's 25 degrees, and we had 0.01" of snow overnight, so the forecasters were overeager yesterday. It looks more like a heavy frost than real snow at 8:48 a.m. I understand Utah had measurable snow yesterday.
Now they're saying it will be heavy snow between ten and two. Today is the worst time, not only because I'll be out in it during those hours, but today is the day everyone else has a payday. From pensions and social security to the military to assistance folks, everyone will be out there with their new cash in hand.
I will not need any rocking tonight! All the cole slaw is done ,I just have to label and put away 19 jars of it. Jane ,there was a wee bit left over and that will be for supper:)
Patricia, we are in another heat wave and I would dearly love to wave it goodbye!!
HeyEveryfriend! I've had another one of those busy days and I'm tired at the end of it. Frankie had a Dr. appt after work so Cooper was here for supper and another walk before she got here to pick him up. She's off tomorrow so the day is mine.
I got a lot done today but I'm not sure what all it was. I didn't get any laundry done so that's on the list for tomorrow. And a friend is picking me up for the Wednesday evening church service. She'll be here at 6:15 to get us there by 6:30. I've been wanting to go but I won't ask Cathy or son Phil to leave home at supper time. We got to talking about it Sunday and two people offered to pick me up and neither one is very far from me.
I better move along before my eyes close and I can't see to finish up the chores before heading for the haystack! I hope you all have a good night and a good tomorrow! Sleep tight!
Well, I'm back at 5 p.m. that "real heavy" snow was more like rain and covered parts of grass here and there. I doubt we even received the earlier 0.01 from overnight.
It reminded me of a rainy day, except it felt warmer, and the rain was white. It was not the 2 inches prophesied.
I had everything on my list except the new pair of sheets I'd planned on. I may order them from Amazon; at least they're make it home!
Good morning..
Going to be another warm one , no rain that is badly needed until Fri.
We are off to the city this morning, neighbour is looking after the dogs for us.
Better get my city duds on and get our "stuff" together for the trip.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I'm up and not quite attem yet. I'm having my coffee and one of "Jim's Egg Thingys" for breakfast but I won't have Cooper today! Frankie has the day off! I'm sitting here in my jammies and when I'm finished, I'll get dressed and have my first walk of the day...in heavy fog!
On the menu today, cook some fresh green beans and I'm going to try something different. I'll let you know later if it works. I have a bit of cleaning to tend to and that and the walk and the laundry and the cooking should get me to the point of getting ready to be picked up for church.
I hope you all have a great day! Make it your own in every way!
This is what Papa Spuds brought to me yesterday. I have some work to do today. Applesauce and some zucchini caprese, I think.
And, some cream cheese on one of those BIG bagels , for sure!
(Sorry about the apron hanging on the pot rack.)
Take care, All.
Morning all!
This looks like it will be the last over 80 day for a while. Thank goodness because I removed the air conditioners a week and a half ago. Fortunately, it didn't get as hot as I thought it might upstairs, so I got some good sleep in. It might have something to do with overnights have been just under 60.
This morning, the guys are here busy cutting the huge pine in the backyard with the termites or carpenter ants making it a home. The tree service guy said termites, but I am sure I saw huge carpenter ants going in on the other side of the tree. They were not present when he was there. The thing is ants and termites don't get along, so it is one or the other, not both. Anyway, the climber is near the top of the tree now. Going to go watch, if I haven't missed the grand topping finality. After that I am not sure how they intend to get the main trunk down.
I was going to say "Good Morning" but I just noticed that it's 12:01 so I'll say....GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYFRIEND!
PHYLLIS, I like the looks of your kitchen counter. I even like the hanging apron! Looks like you're going to eat well for the next week or so!
TOMEREADER, I had two huge trees taken down in my front yard several years back and boy do I ever miss them when the sun is glaring in the front windows in mid afternoon! I also don't have anywhere to hang my swing. I'm thinking next year I'll get a stand for the swing so I can go out there and sleep in it like I used to. I sort of forgot I had it until I cleaned out the closet.
Laundry is taking care of itself right now but I'm sure it will holler when it needs my attention. It's kind of lonely without Cooper! I miss him on Frankie's days off!
Better get back to work! Keep on keeping on!
Been to the city and back and out of city duds into my jeans. Kyles check up went well and we did do a bit of shopping. (me) We each got a good hug from our friend at one shop(fabric) and not knowing ahead of time I got fabric for 1/2 off..that was a surprise and a BONUS!!!
Phyllis, I love your kitchen!!! Would make anyone feel right at home. That is quite a haul from Papa Spuds!! I have to ask what is zucchini caprese please?
Good morning; it's 22 degrees here, cold enough for yesterday's snow sprinkle to be here still. I showered, made coffee, took out the trash, and finished my morning chores. I miss not doing my morning meet and greets, hearing from everyone, and still wanting to pick up the phone and call.
Alan's not doing well; the family is coming up from Anchorage, and that means Dora isn't doing well as they've passed forty years of marriage, and neither has been well since leaving their land and ending up in hospice. Our small group of fellow travelers is getting smaller.
Yesterday's grocery and bill-paying trip went well. There were no issues with anyone; even the waiting on hold for a taxi went fast, as did its arrival. If only that were the standard and not a surprise.
We have all the home grocery delivery services, including taxis, that will pick up your order and deliver for twelve dollars plus regular ride charges and tips. They do a brisk cigarette business for smokers during winter.
The only thing taxis won't pick up is liqueur. Both senior centers also offer rides
for pick up and delivery for five dollars each way. You have to call the day before for home pick-up, and they only do this for groceries or regular standing appointments. However, I would be further isolated if I didn't need to leave home for these, and with my allergies, I need to hand-pick my groceries.
Yesterday, they sent a notice that the building would no longer have carts by the doors for tenants to use for groceries or whatnot. After years of tenants stealing them to hold up microwaves or televisions or leaving them in hallways, elevators, or laundries, they sprayed the building name on new carts, which did nothing to stop the thefts.
The building has a closed camera system in all public areas, which you can subscribe to if you have a television, which I don't. This is why they must know the culprits, but I understand legalities forced their hands.
So now, if you tend to be moving in or out or have large grocery hauls, you must have your own and take it with you. That means hauling my foldup cart to and from here to a store or appointment and back, which isn't ideal, especially in winter or on the bus.
That means calling a senior service in advance and having a set pick-up and delivery time. No more spontaneous mall wanders unless you're scoping out items for a return trip.
Phyliss, are those copper pots? I always wanted some, but I ended up with stainless steel and cast iron.
Amy, my zucchini caprese is grilled tomatoes, zucchini, and mozzarella balls. I haven't made it for a long time. I googled and found these others.

A good October greeting to ALL🍁
We had a wonderful time in Boston with our family. I was able to swim in their beautiful pool for the first part of our time there. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate😩😘
Our son has recently built a stone fireplace in their yard....referred to locally as a "chimney"‼️ We got to be there for the inaugural fire‼️ We managed to have a couple more fires that included a rainy mist😘
We were there mostly to enjoy our time together but did manage to go to two different museums. Isabella Stewart Gardner and Massachusetts Fine Arts Boston. Both were very enjoyable. We watched a four part documentary on the "heist" of the never recovered art before we went to the Gardner one and we were so happy we did as it was good to know details of the stollen art before we went.
I had another pain injection last Monday in my S I joint and it really helped a lot. I am so pleased to gave relief from my lowe back pain. For differs injections and I can finally say YEA....THEY WORKED‼️
I hope this finds EVERY FRIEND doing well and enjoying a nice fall🍁🍁
Patricia, yes, all copper pots. I started collecting copper pots years ago....antique and not antique. I used them to cook in and just to look at as a decoration. And, then one Christmas my husband surprised me with a whole set of all-copper Revere pots (not just copper bottoms). I still use them from time to time even though they don't work as well on a glass topped stove. I bought All-clad for daily cooking. When I get in a downsizing mood I look at those pots and then I think I can't let go of them.....at least, not yet. ::)
Thanks for looking up a recipe for Caprese. That is pretty close to what I cook except I don't use a recipe and just throw everything into a big skillet and serve it as a side dish instead of a salad. I was going to do that tonight but David offered to go get tacos. I didn't argue with him. <grin>
Phyllis, I'm that way with cast iron, which works on the stove, on a grill, or in the oven. Or, in my case, my convection bake/toaster oven. I have a Lodge six-quart Dutch oven and a Lodge 3-quart casserole, both with red enameled coating on the outside with cream interiors.
I often think about donating them to some children of my friends as they're heavy and awkward for me to move, and I no longer meal prep, but I always talk myself out of it.
I used to have a Hamilton Beach indoor grill I gave away, so I haven't made that recipe in a while. It's close to the one mentioned. I have a cast iron grill pan and was recently gifted with a friend's overflow. I only need the mozzarella, and I could make it again. I also used to like slicing mozzarella in a salad.
I've been purchasing those smaller bagged salad kits perfect for a meal. But I recently read an article about commercially prepared cut-up fruits and vegetables being bad for you due to various health issues and careless practices, so I'm rethinking that.
Nobody staying up late I guess. I'll close up.
Good morning...
Another busy day playing catch up on what needs to be done.
Jenny ,good to see you and hear that the injections are helping you.
Patricia, it is no different in life, the innocent pay for the deeds of the ones that misuse it. They don't realise that those carts cost ,same with our grocery carts/buggy here .25 to use but you do get your money back. Some leave the grocery cart them in the parking lot others take them home then leave them on the sidewalk. Thank you for the recipe, interesting.
Rick, going to the city tires me out..I think I would rather stay home and do a days work.
Better get going and start the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I was so tired last night that I didn't even stop at the computer on my way to bed! You don't think I might be getting too old for all these activities, do you?
JENNY, so nice to hear from you and especially to hear you say that the treatments are helping you live a better life! Sounds like you had a great visit with your family in New England!
AMY, I understand about your feelings on getting home from the city. It's getting so I'd much rather have someone else do my shopping! However, sometimes I just have to do it myself because they don't understand exactly what it is I need!
RICK, thanks for taking care of the place last night! I just wasn't up to it!
I have to go put my bed sheets in the washer and then remake the bed. I'm going to read today's paper and do the crossword puzzle and the word jumble in between washing and drying. I'm a crossworrd addict. I think I got it from my Gramma. She was never finished with the paper until the crossword was done!
Cooper is here, had his breakfast, his walk and a couple of visits on the way. Also, friend Nancy gave me a bag of yellow tomatoes. She got a yellow tomato plant by accident and she doesn't like them so ever since she found out that I do, I get some every time she picks them. That's fine with me. Cooper also gets treats at her back door so he's started checking to see if she's out on every walk!
We have a cool, foggy morning today and it's supposed to be partly cloudy and cloudy all day but temps will reach the low 70s. Good walking weather for Cooper and me! I can see better without the sun blinding me. I might be one of the few people in the world who like it when the sun hides behind the clouds!
Make it a good day! Enjoy it in any way you wish!
"Rick, going to the city tires me out..I think I would rather stay home and do a days work."
During my working years whenever I had to go to the City (NYC) for a meeting or something, it would wipe me out for the rest of the day. My brother however did it every day.
My son graduated from Stonybrook Univ. and made lots of friends from the City so when he moved to Manhattan he already had friends there. He enjoyed New York and lived there for more than 29 years but he lives here now and says he is glad to be away from the hustle and bustle. He worked on Varick St. for years and when his company changed owners he worked for a data company down on Water Street, right off of Wall St.
I liked going down for shopping and events at Lincoln Center or the Garden but I never wanted to live there. Too busy and too many people everywhere!
Amy, the Caprese that I make is roughly this: sliced zucchini, yellow squash, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and sometimes Italian sausage all sautéed in olive oil in a large skillet and at the last minute, shredded cheese melted over the top. Also, I'll sometimes shred some carrots and throw those in. It only takes a few minutes to cook and I'll serve it with a green salad and fresh fruit and whatever kind of bread I have on hand. One of our favorite go-to dinners.
Take care, All
Phyllis, thank you for the recipe. What is really funny is that I have been making that for years with an abundance of squash from the garden. I just didn't know what it is called. All one needs a slice of bread to mop up the delicious juices from it!
Floors are washed, some laundry done and tomatoes picked.
Need to do a few things while Kyle is in the shop as it is his birthday tomorrow. Then we have Thanksgiving on Mon..a busy time!
Rick, I guess your brother got used to the travel back and forth. I was glad to hear a lady (much younger) at the bank say she also tires out when heading to the city!
The birds have stripped the Mountain Ash tree of its berries here. Didn't take them long to do it as there was a steady stream of birds going back and forth to it.
Good late morning, almost nine thirty now and 24 and cloudy outside. Those forecasters said more expected snow on Friday and Tuesday, perhaps two to three inches per day.
This morning, they're prophesying, "Special Weather Statement issued October 05 at 12:34AM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks
...Snowfall Expected for the Central Interior and Eastern Alaska Range Thursday night into Friday...
Snow is expected to move over the Interior from the south Thursday night into Friday, including the Friday morning commute.
Looking at widespread 2 to 3 inches of snow over most of the Interior, including Fairbanks through Friday. The Eastern Alaska range, including the Richardson Highway, could see at least 6 inches of snow and a Winter Weather Advisory from noon Friday to noon Saturday is in effect."
Either way, the trees still hang onto their leaves, but autumn has officially left the area.
Jane, I can't see you slowing down. You seem to have a built-in Energizer bunny that many of us lost out on! :)
Amy, I agree. I noticed yesterday on my way to see a friend on the first floor that several carts were sitting in the hallway, seemingly materializing out of the ether. On my way back, they were gone.
There are so many problems with losing maintenance and security staff after Covid. Maintenance issues are being deferred, and we're learning to live with them reluctantly. The stock answer is there are seven buildings and fewer maintenance and security. No one believes it anymore.
Phyliss, I have a friend who lived in Brooklyn near Stuyvesant Heights. After retirement, she moved close to her son in Connecticut. She wishes she'd moved sooner. She says it's nothing like it was. I think we all say that looking back, no matter our circumstances.
Your recipe sounds so good that I've added the ingredients to my phone's grocery list. I'm one of those who can't strictly follow a recipe without improvising. Some of my favorite meals came from that improvisation.
Amy, a good slice of sourdough bread would be good for that!
I have a question about Amazon orders. I've noticed an odd trend. I live in Alaska, but lately, my orders go first to a place further away before making it back. This is the third time I've noticed this.
For example. I ordered one item Tuesday that originated in Phoenix, then was shipped to Kentucky, and went to Portland before being shipped to me.
PATRICIA, thanks for the plug but sometimes that Energizer Bunny takes a nap!
Today is a better day. Cooper arrived as usual and the day went by getting things done. I think I've done enough that I deserve to take an evening off and watch some TV. I might throw in a few extra steps on a short walk when the sun dips behind the trees and roofs. It wasn't supposed to be sunny today but apparently no one told the sun so it got up there and shone!
I liked hearing about the recipes and I might try that one sometime too. I made some notes!
I've lived in the a small town in the country most of my life. I did spend a year at school in Harrisburg and the only thing that made that tolerable was that my married sister lived in an apartment about 12 blocks from the school and, since her apartment was so tiny that she didn't have room to put me up, she found me a room to rent right around the corner from her apartment. I had lots of dinners with her and Jim! And I even had some meals with the lady and her mother who rented out the room. Things were sure different in those days!
Gonna go turn on Perry Mason and think about what I want to have for supper a bit later! Have a good rest of the day!
Quote from: patricia19 on October 05, 2023, 02:19:09 PMFor example. I ordered one item Tuesday that originated in Phoenix, then was shipped to Kentucky, and went to Portland before being shipped to me.
Reminds me of a saying we had at work, - "Trouble left here OK.
Otherwise - I live just North of NYC. I've ordered from New England and the package travels to New Jersey (going past us), then back North to White Plains (North of us), and then here. Pre programming rather than common sense.
3.Good Night Everyfriend! I'm heading for the haystack...the nice. clean haystack! I washed the "hay" and remade the stack so it wouldn't smell of perspiration andy more. And I must tell you that tomorrow or the next day, the cold weather will be back in this area! As soon as I added a nice, warm blanket to my haystack, the weather warmed up. Now I've left the blanket off so I'm pretty sure the cold will be back!
Have a good night and a happy tomorrow!
I agree, Rick; they're not using common sense but perhaps padding the fee.
Good morning..
We had an all night rain and now the ground is sighing with relief. I am sure if it had of been a pounding downpour the rain would have stayed on top of the ground but this gentle rain is slowly soaking in. I get out of watering the morning glories and tomatoes also. I did pick a basket of tomatoes yesterday with the intent of pulling the plants but there are more tomatoes on the plat so in a bit they will be pulled.
A work around home day after we visit Kyles sister. She usually comes over for Kyles birthday but after having surgery is staying close to home.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I hadn't noticed the strange logistics going on at Amazon, although I have noticed lately that packages that are supposed to arrive on a specific day are often delayed or not delivered when they say they will be. I've seen a number of my recent Amazon packages, marked "out for delivery", not arriving that day at all. If I look at the location map, I noticed that they were getting really close to my house, but not delivered until the next day.
Speaking of deliveries, my order of pet products from another company did the same thing yesterday. It was out on delivery, but never arrived. This monthly delivery almost always is here before 11am on its' designated day. The only thing I can think of is that the delivery (FedEx) driver couldn't park near my house yesterday morning and didn't want to carry a heavy box any great distance. Don't blame him.
The guys were here yesterday to fix a leak at the top of a kitchen window and put in some missing flashing(?) at the corner of my back porch. However, the last guy out the basement locked my basement door even though I told him I would take care of it. Now the lock is jammed - AGAIN. Well, at least they discovered where the bees are getting into my house. Looks like they are either nesting in the soffit, or in the gutter itself. Oddly, they don't seem to have gotten into the attic. It think they are bees and not wasps only because the legs are shorter and they don't appear to be making a hive like wasps do. Unfortunately, they are at the corner of my roof two stories up. If my pest control guy can't reach the nest to spray, I will have to find someone else who can. The company dose not allow them to climb onto the roof. Apparently their insurance does not cover being on rooves, ladders or what not.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My day started off with a bang! Jumped out of bed, had my breakfast, met Cooper at the door, gave Frankie a hug and off we went. Cooper had his breakfast and took me for the first walk of the day!
I came back and did my word games on the computer and then checked in here! Had a message from Cathy that she's going for groceries later today and do I need to go or can she pick up for me! I'm thinking on that. Only a couple little things to do today...some cleaning and some putting away or throwing away!
MARSGAL, don't you hate it when you tell someone who is doing work NOT to do something and they do it anyway! It drives me crazy! Hope you got the door open when you needed it.
AMY, I hope KYLE's sister heals quickly! Not being able to do the normal things can be frustrating. She's lucky to have you there!
Gotta get going! Have a great day Everyfriend!
Quote from: MarsGal on October 06, 2023, 08:14:08 AMI've seen a number of my recent Amazon packages, marked "out for delivery", not arriving that day at all.
That's often the case here too. We must be at the end of their route. Deliveries are often a 8:00pm or later. Got a delivery last night that was out for delivery the day before. A much needed item. So a day late really annoyed me.
Jane ,she is really doing well. She is the last of three sisters, just her and Kyle now. She had set the dining table with plates, cookies, muffins and strawberrries and a special muffin for Kyle with Happy Birthday on it. On the card for him she worte Happy Birthday to my favourite brother...joke between the two of them as he is her only brother.
The door lock is working now. He had no trouble getting in without doing a thing. He thinks the humidity is most likely to blame. I don't. It was stuck yesterday afternoon. This morning was much more humid. not to mention that will all the rain we had earlier this week it was working fine. Well, I just think I am going crazy.
Not sure if this will help you but worth looking at.

AMY, I had 3 daughters and one son and I often refer to him as "my favorite son"! He asked me once if he ever does anything to jeopardize that and I told him..."NO WAY!! IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!" So he asked me if he was ever my "least favorite son". I told him that I don't eve know what that means. I also have a favorite oldest daughter, a favorite youngest daughter and a favorite middle daughter!
Well, I came by to say Good Night to anyone who was here and I'm the last one here so...
Good Night to ME and anyone else who stops by!
You didn't see me over here in the corner munching away?
Good morning..
Everyone here is prepping for their Thanksgiving dinner ,some are having it today, others on Sunday. Stores have been packed and I bet the turkeys are scarce now. We have famly coming later today.
Patricia, we are to have *snow* late Sunday night. We do know it is coming but it can take a detour.
Better get the day rolling.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
Happy Thanksgiving, AMY! Enjoy your day!
RICK, I sure didn't see you over in the corner munching away.
Cooper is here, had his breakfast and took me for a walk in the rain! We cut it a bit short because it's coming down pretty good and neither of of liked it!
Have to finish up the cleaning today! And also have to think about what we'll eat when Christy comes. I'm not sure what day she's coming but one reason is that Cathy is going to visit my granddaughter (her daughter) in Texas and she's taking over the "look after Mom's needs" that Cathy does all the time! It'll be nice to have Christy here and since she's also Frankie's Mom, she'll be doubly welcomed and since she's also Philip's twin sister, she'll be three times welcome. She also has a very dear old school friend who lives here.
I guess I better get to work or I won't get done. All our walks will be rainy ones. It's supposed to rain all day and into the night!
Do whatever pleases you most today and make it a good one!
Bubble, just to let you know that I am thinking of you and everyone right now. I am aghast by the level of the attack. Shouldn't be surprised but I am. To you and yours, please stay safe.
I have the last part of the order, "Out for delivery," today. I noticed that this left Kentucky, arrived in Portland, returned to Kentucky, and literally a moment later returned to Portland on Thursday. Today, it is out for delivery.
The normal procedure is three pickups and deliveries between various Portland offices and then five in Fairbanks before it's out for delivery, counting the airport post offices and the main mail sorting facility and then to one of the local post offices.
We had a supposed snow band sitting over us yesterday, but only had close to two inches. Today, we have rain, which is decimating the snow. And through it all, the birch and tamarack still have their leaves.
Evidently, the weather service has a sense of humor as today's "special message" reads, ..Another Round of Snow Saturday and Sunday...
Snow is expected from this evening through Sunday night for the Southeast Interior, including the White Mountains, the Fairbanks area, and the Alaska Range. General snow totals of around 2 to 4 inches are expected, with the higher amounts toward and in the Alaska Range and lower amounts for the Interior. Blustery northeast winds will accompany the snow at times, especially over the higher elevations. Localized blowing snow is possible. Snow will largely taper off by Sunday night.
I'm here to say "Good night Everyfriend"! Cooper went home and I did a few odd jobs, had my supper and played a few word games on the computer. Then I turned on Perry Mason on TV. I watched the first half of the first show and the next thing I knew, the second show was about a fourth over so I gave that up!
I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring but I'm going to try to get a better night's sleep tonight than I got last night. For some reason, I just couldn't sleep good last night. I guess it was just one of those nights.
We had a lot of rain up until about 1:15 today and then the sun came out but it didn't dry everything off. We still have big puddles on the road! And it was chilly enough that I turned the heat on this morning and left it until about 2 hours ago.
I wish you all a good night and a good tomorrow. Make it your own in every way!
Good morning...
Woke to a gentle rain ,nice, that means our Morning Glories didn't get kissed with frost!
Yesterday was a fun day, after our meeting with friends for coffee/tea we hurried home to make a pot of soup and an Instant pot of baked beans. Family
came for a visit and we traded one huge conatiner of baked beans for a butternut squash. Later in the day I thought maybe I could protent the plantes by putting them in the covered trug but they had grown and wrapped themselves around the wires so I just let it. Upon opening the door I found two more huge butternut squash and I think I know who left them. Our neighbour down the way was here the other day and we talked about squash.
A day of rest here, we are not having a trueky but chicken with dressing will cook the squash and have baby potatoes . Still have some birthday cake and a pumpkin pie so one can chose.
Better get going and get the day stated.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
AMY, I can't believe that you will actually take the day off even if it's a special day! But just in case you do, enjoy it! And even if you don't take it off, enjoy it anyway!
I have to go get myself ready for church just is case someone is available to drop me off. I forgot to check that before I went to bed and I think Cathy might still have company today. She did yesterday!
I wish Everyfriend a good day today. Make it your own in every way!
Morning everyone. It sure is chilly this morning having hit 49o earlier.
I haven't been doing a whole lot these past two days except watching the news and reading. Partly that is because as soon as I sit down, the cats (Oscar, mostly) pile onto my lap and seem content to stay put unless I insist on getting up.
My neighbor has her annual Halloween yard decorations us, so there are a lot of people checking it out. It sure seems odd not having the tree by the driveway there anymore to counter the very tall skeleton decorations and losing a place to hang the big spider and spider web. Never fear, she found other places for them. This year their classic car, Ken's pride and joy. is parked at the top of the driveway with an undead at the wheel. I hope no one damages it. I'll be darn if I can pick out what the new additions are this year. She has pretty much run out of space.
Good morning; it's 28 degrees at 7:41, our low for the day. A high of thirty is expected, and scattered snow showers are expected starting later and lasting through Sunday. Saturday's rain decimated our snow, so it's wait and see.
Today will be the basics: laundry, vacuuming, and a few touchups, nothing exciting or insistent. It's quiet without our morning meet and greets; no one has traveled the halls for most of the past week. I'm almost tempted to head down to the first floor, where several hang out, almost.
Has anyone heard from Bubble? Worried about her.
I would guess that when this latest "skirmish" broke out that all incoming or outgoing communications was halted.
Hello Everyfriend! I just stopped by to say good night so...
GOOD NIGHT EVERYFRIEND!
Bubble sent this .
this is still going on - I am in a safe area, so all OK for me, but this is stressful and so so painful.
Along with this.
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/07/middleeast/israel-gaza-fighting-hamas-attack-music-festival-intl-hnk/index.html
Good morning..
Raining out and 35° .we didn't get the snow they were calling for but that is ok. :)
We are heading over to friends that have been working on a new home, that they should be in by Nov. Siding in the next job (one that I really enjoyed doing) and we will give out pointers and hope that helps.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, I am glad to hear that Bubble was able to get a brief word out to us. I've been very concerned.
My house just keeps finding things for me to fret and spend money on. Now it is Yellowjackets at the corner of for the roof and a few getting into the house somehow. My pest control guy is scheduled to show up on Thursday so I left a message for him to make sure he gets my attention when he comes. He has a habit of showing up, quickly taking care of the outside and disappearing before I even know he was here. All the others would let me know they were here and check to see if anything other than the bare minimum outside treatment is needed.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
BUBBLE, if you ever see this, I'm praying for your safety and the safety of everyone at that concert! It was horrible what happened there! People go out to share some time and enjoy some music and they have to suffer for it!
I'm in the middle of making Green Tomato Sauce to use in recipes. I picke all the green tomatoes that were not going to ripen and took some time trying to decide what to do with them. This is what I decided.
Cooper is here, he had his breakfast, a walk and some time in the yard. Now he's sleeping on the sofa! Maybe I'll join him later!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.
And I wish BUBBLE a SAFE day...always!
Thoughts and prayers for Israel🙏🙏
Thank you AMY for sharing BUBBLES message. So very sad for what is going on over there😩🙏
I missed wishing you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🍂 PHYLLIS 🍁. I do hope your special day was enjoyable.
Also, belated HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃 to you AMY, and any others that celebrate in Canada🍁
Have a good day, EVERY FRIEND‼️
It was very nice, Jenny. Thank you. Younger son and dil came down for a couple of days and one of my grandsons came, too. David and I hadn't seen them for a year. The weather was beautiful and we got a lot of talking done.
They brought chocolate cake and ordered dinner in and we had a good visit.
Good afternoon; I just returned from a morning filled with more appointments and some mayhem. I was out with Nancy, who could barely see while I could barely stay upright. However, we finished everything, and I had a pleasant visit and lunch.
I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon. Just have to finish up a few thing and turn off all the lights and set the alarm.
I still have Israel and BUBBLE in my thoughts! I pray that the situation will cool and people's safety will not be threatened any more!
JENNY, nice of you to stop by. I hope your procedures are still helping your "getting around" problems and that you are feeling better!
It's cold here! I told you all that would happen when I took the extra blanket back off the bed. Boy! was I right! It's been in the 40s and 50s with a couple jumps into the low 60s all week. The jumps didn't last very long and the furnace has been running. I'm not ready for that!
The green tomato sauce is made and canned and waiting to be wiped clean and identified and put back on the shelf. I might even be using one of them later this week in a recipe! Now, when Christy comes up from Maryland, we can pull up the plants! There might be a few more to pick in the next week and I have some sliced and ready to fry for my dinner tomorrow!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow! Make it a good one!
Good morning..
Still raining here and temp is at 40°, we won't reach 50° today.
Off to the city , Kyle has an appointment to go to. We are stopping off at Fabricland to drop off a few things for our friends and their dog.
This morning before we go we are helping load our snowblower on the neighbours trailer so he can take it in to get serviced. There was snow to the north of us but nothing here,so far.
Jane, we have had the furnace running here...heat is ok but a long way from the good ol wood heat.
Better get ready and get everything packed in the vehicle.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Yesterday's Yellowjacket count was five, four live, one dead. That does not count what is flying around in my attic. Still don't know where they are getting into the living spaces. Even though I don't see any gaps around the door to the attic in the back room, the cat box in the back bedroom is going to get moved today and the door closed. I hope that helps keep them from getting into the rest of the house. Going to call my pest control service today to let them know that they need to spray inside as well as outside. I don't expect my current service guy to be happy about this.
It will be in the mid-sixties for the next four days. Looks like I get to mow the lawn again.
Saw two groundhogs cavorting in the vacant lot below yesterday. Been seeing a lovely mostly white cat inspecting the bottom of my yard two days in a row. I think it is looking to scare up some squirrels or mice. Suspect a possum has been making a winter home under my porch. It seems to like plastic bags, so I've been putting my plastic bags in a trash container for pickup. Nothing has "attacked" my trash bags when I put them out by the street, but I am not taking chances. The last disappearing trash bag was full of used cat litter that I had placed on my porch the night before trash day. What a mess to sweep up off the porch. The bag before that was a big partly filled yard bag filled with yard waste. The critter left the contents in a neat pile under my back porch and just took the bag.
Time for breakfast.
Seems like I just said "Good Night" and now it's time for "Good Morning" so....
Good Morning Everyfriend! Hope all goes well for you this day!
AMY, I don't want to think about snow blowers but I guess it's time to go down that road. Good for you getting ready but I hope you're waaaaaaaay early!!
I don't have Cooper today so I'm getting ready to do my lonely walk without him or any other doggies! If he were here, we'd already be out there and back. He's an early riser and he makes me into one, too.
Have some jobs to finish up today! The sweeper is sitting in the hall and needs to be back in the closet but not before the living room gets a good cleaning! I like to show off when my kids are coming and I don't want Christy to think she has to clean before she can sit down and talk!
Have a good day, Everyfriend. Make it your own in every way!
P.S. Good Morning MarsGal! I almost missed you but this site stopped me!
Good morning; another late start today for me. I did the usual morning bits, showering, feeding the cat, and making coffee. Today is 25 and snowing with an expected high of 33—no need to use a snowblower or lawnmower here.
Yesterday morning, one of Nancy and my perils was the ridged ice under a thin coating of snow. Then it rained most of the afternoon, and overnight, we received another fresh layer but little accumulation. And the trees still haven't dropped their leaves, an odd sight for me.
Last night was exasperating. At first, Farrah couldn't decide where to settle, and then someone set off their fire alarm and had to open their door to share it with the building. Then, later, I had a brisk knocking on my door.
By the time I was dressed, no one was there, and since I couldn't see anyone, I opened the door. Three doors down were two fire personnel knocking on another door. One of them told me, "Sorry, we had the wrong door." that was probably why I overslept.
I don't have anything interesting to report; Farrah is still more affectionate since her sickness, and our morning meet and greets have stopped. The halls of this building and the outside streets remain still and silent most of the time. Winter has cast its early pall, and everyone seems to be waiting
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm tired right down to my toenails! Sleep well and wake refreshed!
Good morning..
All went well yesterday dropped off items and had a quick lunch. Headed to the appointment ahead of time to wait it out, just sat for a bit and hubby was called in...we were in and out way before appointment time! Sure can't complain about that!
Today is work around home, need to make some phone calls to straighten out conflicting appointments.
Hope Lloyd and Nancy are all right..
Patricia, when sleep is disrupted it is difficult to go back to sleep! Farrah is becoming mellow in her golden years. :)
Jane, I hope we are early also but just to the north they did get a snack of snow. I don't mind if they don't share . :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I have to get on my horse and get moving this morning. Cathy will be picking me up later to go to the bank, library and Farmers Market! Gonna be another busy one!
AMY, lucky you at the Drs. office! That doesn't happen very often!
Gotta get moving or I won't be ready when Cathy gets here! I wish everyone a good day. Make it your own in every way!
Good morning, another late one. Late last night, the electricity went off again, which caused the hallway lights to come on. Since they're on an emergency circuit, you can't turn them off, so I curled away from them and tried to go back to sleep. According to the news, both recent outages weren't simply localized but took in most of the Interior.
The guy burning his liver and onions told everyone he'd not known about opening his door and letting smoke out to the rest of the building. Besides being common sense, it's in the lease, and we have to initial that part of the lease where it specifically tells you not to open your door but to turn off your heat source and open your balcony door.
We're also told not to have anything within eighteen inches of the water sprinklers, which is also discussed and initialed on the lease and explained during the lease signing. When the alarm goes off, and the area fire department arrives, there is an electronic board inside the main building door with a flashing light indicating the area with the original alarm. You will have an area check by the fire personnel before they leave; again, common sense. And again, nobody has a restful night.
I've run empty this week between bad news, fire alarms, and power outages.
Not much action in here today! I've had a long and busy day and another one coming up tomorrow! Cooper will be coming around 6:45 and he'll be ready for his breakfast and then a walk. When we get back from the walk, I'll be hitting the shower to get ready for a dr. appt in the Morning.
After the Dr. Cathy is heading for the Amish Grocery store and I'm going with her! And when we get back from there, Cooper will be ready for another walk and I'll be ready to zonk out!
So I'm wishing you all a good night and a good tomorrow. Don't know if I'll make it here in the morning but I'll be thinking of all of you!
Good Morning to ME! And to anyone else who shows face in here!
Good morning..
Starting out at 41° and we just may see the sun today!
Taking Kyle for blood work this morning then home to finish up what didn't get done yesterday. I had hoped to dig the rest of the potatoes but will wait for drier days.
Patricia, hope you got an undisturbed sleep last night.
Jane, enjoy your trip to the Amish market...lots of goodies there!!
Bubble ,thinking of you and your family, prayers your way.
Better get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
My house smells like an Italian restaurant today. I had some tomatoes that were getting soft so I am dehydrating them in a slow oven. I have a bunch of glass jars so I'll pack them in olive oil and use them later. Dried and in a glass jar they will last for a long time.
Nice to see Bubble posting in Photos.
Take care, All.
Good morning. I'm just checking in. I've fed Farrah, made coffee, and put away anything needing to be put away and put back out anything I needed out. It's cold out there at 23 and icy. We've only had 0.1 snow accumulation so far. It's more ridged ice than anything out there.
It sounds like everyone is busy this morning. Phyllis, dried tomatoes sound good to me. I've got six glass pint jars and three curved ones that I've used for jellies, so next time I'm out, they're on my list.
I've no plans to go anywhere on that ice, and yes, Amy, I did sleep very soundly. No fire alarms nor electricity going out, or should I say so far?
Jane, as usual, your Amish market sounds good to me. All our small Ethnic businesses, tailors, groceries, and whatnot disappeared with Covid.
I truly love the Amish Market (called Wenger's after the owner). I went there with a list of 5 items and I came home with 4 bags full!
I have supper in the crock pot. It started out with some cut up pork chops and then got some stuff out of the fridge that needed to go. I told my daughter it was a recipe for COTF (Clean Out The Fridge). She remarked that I make that a lot....and it never tastes the same twice!!
Now I'm going to go out there and eat some of it! If it's good, I hope I can remember what I put in there. If it's awful, the garbage man comes tomorrow!
There is a basic mix that I never run out of that's similar to your COTF. I will cut and quarter yellow onions, thin-skinned gold potatoes, and carrots.
I'm too lazy to peel, but the potatoes, and similar vegetables get a good scrubbing with the brush. I add plenty of ground pepper, either black or green, ground sea salt, plus no salt added Creole flavoring.
To that basic recipe, you can add various peppers, eggplant, zucchini, virtually any root vegetable that comes to mind. For protein, I usually add pork chops that I've deboned and chopped, but any solid meat, I simply prefer the taste of pork.
Sometimes, I add red kidney beans or instead make a cream sauce. I put all the chopped bits and pieces in my large wok with a nice dash of olive oil and fry quickly by tossing everything about like a fry cook.
It's usually ready in 20 minutes or less, and I finish with another good grind of pepper and a tablespoon of nutritional yeast. For a single, it's enough for one meal and two saved for later.
It's one recipe that benefits by being creative.
Thank you for the comforting messages. Understandably I am not very present these days. We are all very tense and it is difficult to concentrate on anything outside of the news; the TV is on at all time and we are ready to jump to safety (no shelter, but in the staircase) in case of an alert in our location.
Bubble...
...do what it takes to stay safe...
Good morning...
A tad chilly this morning with a starting temp of 34°. Another mixed up day here, some work will get done some will have to wait.
I saw a recipe that uses up left over turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes ,along with cranberries and topped with cheese, that just may be tonights supper and it to will COTF.
Phyllis, your home must smell so tasty! I have some plum tomatoes that may get treated that way.
Jane, how did your COTF taste? Sounded good to me, Dad on weekend would do what he called a refrigerator scramble and once the diced onion was cooked in went every bits and bobs into the frying pan. It also taasted good despite the appearance.
Patricia, any new snow your way? So far the snow has avoided us for now. Snowblower is still in for maintenance so I hope the snow holds off!!
Bubble, prayers for you and your family.Stay safe my friend.
Better get a move on.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! It was so nice to come in and see that you had posted, BUBBLE! We do miss you when you're not here and we do worry about your safety!
AMY, last night's supper was pretty good! I think I'll have it again tonight for supper. The pork chop pieces were so tender that even my few leftover teeth on the bottom made easy work of it. I see you do the same thing with your leftovers! I love looking around the fridge and thinking "OH yes! I can throw that in there!"
Cooper arrived this morning and we've done our stuff for the morning. He's out sitting on the settee on the porch and checking stuff out and I'm running the dishwasher while I sit here talking with friends and having my second cup of coffee!
I hope you all have a good day better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Do exactly as you please!
PHYLLIS, I am happy to read about your birthday celebration with your family.
PATRICIA, your week has been as stressful sounding as mine has been😩 I can just imagine your description of you and Nancy on your outing....😩 I hope issues in the building have settled down and you and Farrah are getting a much better night of rest😘
JANE, I am continuing to get around better after my injections. I realize they are just a bandaid, but it sure is nice to have less pain😘 Thank you for asking.
AMY, we have used our furnace too in the mornings this week and we had our first freeze last night😩. What a unusual thing to happen; getting in and out of a doctors office before your appointment time‼️
BUBBLE, I continue to think about you and your country and pray for your safety🙏. We have non stop news coverage daily and it is unfathomable to see what is going on🙏
We have a week full of doctor appointments next week along with having our two grand doggies here for the week. We are keeping our fingers crossed that there will be no moisture as it makes walking the doggie for Bob so much easier when they are not wet, of course.
I wish you all a good day.
Good late morning from the Interior, where it's 28 degrees and no new snow. Yesterday, We had rain that turned our little snow into more ice. The roads are slippery but clear.
Bubble, I have cursed the computer whenever I see a news report. Every time I hear a word, I am both saddened and enraged. Yes, this is genuinely unfathomable; a few do unspeakable horrors for manipulation and greed.
The building seems to have settled down, and we haven't had new outages. They were part of a linkage between the Interior and the Southeast. Ever since they linked the two systems, it has had issues.
Good Afternoon Everyone!
Everything here on the rocky coast of
Maine is good...
Bubble
I am so sorry for everything that is happening
in your area. I hope that you are able to stay
safe but the news that we hear here is not good.
You and your welfare are always on my mind .
Stay SAFE,
Love Sandy
My prayers for safety are with you, Bubble, and all of those affected by this horrible situation!
All well in central Oklahoma.
Just stopping by to say "Good Night Everyfriend"! I'm heading for the haystack when I finish up here. I can't seem to keep my eyes open today. I don't need to set the alarm tonight because Frankie has the weekend off and Cooper won't be joining me today or tomorrow. If it turns out like her other weekends off, she'll be stopping by and running some errands while Cooper hangs out with me! I like it that way!
My grandson and his soon-to-be-wife, were planning a visit here this weekend but their plans were changed! I forget why but they are not coming. They will be here later in the month and I forget just when.
I added some rice to my crockpot dinner because there was a lot of juice in it. It was good before....now it's scrumptious!
I finished the cleaning and put the sweeper away today. I'm thinking that tomorrow I could probably start over. I used to do a house 2 and 1/2 times bigger than this one in about a half day. I wonder where my energy has gone? Maybe I should run by my former house and see if I left it there!
I'm still praying for BUBBLE'S safety and the safety of all those exposed to the horror in Israel!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! This is such a good place to hang out!
One week now. It feels like a month of alerts, sirens, stress and unthinkable news.
I am thankful that I live in -apparently- an unreachable area for those long range rockets. I hope it stays that way.
The anguish of those parents with missing children, dead or abducted, they don't know - this is breaking my heart. Many with foreign nationalities as well, many very young kids too. I can't stop wondering if they are fed, could they be in pain, wounded, tortured? I can't stop the thoughts and drift aimlessly around the house. When, how, will it end?
Thank you for you support. The thought of friends around the world IS a help.
From the window, I see the migrating birds resting for a short time on my front tree. Life continue for them, apparently undisturbed by the fighting.

Good morning..
Bubble, one can not imagine what others are going through in this war.We get news but as you know it is glossed over so not to offend/scare or let the reality of this horrific torture be known. Know that you are thought and prayed for daily.
A day to again catch up on things. I think things run faster than I do to avoid being done....or am I procrastinating?? Could be. :))
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I hope and pray that the senseless war in Israel is over very soon. I also pray that God is watching over all who are closely involved and that He will protect our good friend, BUBBLE!
My day is on the way! However, it's raining on my day! And it's supposed to last all day! I still planning my walk but if it changes from a soft rain to a hard one, I'll be back sooner than I usually am.
I don't know what's on my agenda for today but I'm sure "stuff" show it's face and beg for attention!
I hope Everyfriend is safe, happy and well!
So good to hear Bubble is safe.
Rainy here, too. And chilly!
Take care.
Good morning, 28 and cloudy here with more ice and frost than snow.
Amy said it best for me, per the news we hear Bubble and even my procrastination.
I've accomplished my morning duties and must do a few on my list.
I don't normally post here...But just want to let Bubbles..know...we are praying for her and all others in harms way for GODs protection..during this terrible times...Stay Safe....
I rarely post here either, but I've been watching and reading Soda Shoppe all week, in hopes of seeing a post from Bubble. Finally some good news the past couple of days, and I hope and pray that it continues to get better. I'm afraid there's a long bumpy road ahead before things return to normal, but I have faith that eventually they will.
After a day of rain (no storm sounds....just rain) it has finally stopped and the puddles are all over the roads and driveways. I managed my walk this morning and I didn't come back soaked!
Lots of "stuff" got done today and I'm OK with the days doings. But I'm tired and ready for the haystack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a good tomorrow! Do what makes you happiest!
Good morning..
No sign of sun today, a little warmer this morning than yesterday with no frost on the ground.
A day of rest here which means..playing in the sewing room. Need to deliver hot mustard then play.
I was going to put roast on but remembered I have some beef to use up. Will slice it thin, along with some onions and mushrooms and pour Yorkshire pudding on top and bake. That along with vegetables will be supper.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who stops by for coffee or tea this morning!
I'm just finishing my morning coffee and then I'm getting dressed and taking my first walk of the day. No Cooper today so i'll walk alone...isn't that an old song? I'll walk alone
When I come back I'll be getting ready to head off to church. Cathy will drop me off there and a friend will bring me home! Don't know when I'll get back in here so I hope you all have a good day and I pray that BUBBLE is still safe in her home!
A happy cool Autumn Day to all.
Rick , Janie sent her rain this way so yes it is a cool (wet) Autumn Day. Nice one ,wells are getting topped up for the winter and rivers are hugging their banks.
Two more rows to sew then I can put all the rows together...this is a fun pattern, tedious at times but one learns to slow down and "smell the roses"
Good late morning, everyone; I hope your day is and will be wonderful!
Hey there all you who peeked in! I'm not sure what I did all day but I do know.....
I made my bed and straightened up the bedroom...
I took a loooong walk..
I got ready and went to church...
I came home and changed my clothes
I ate lunch...
I read the paper and did the crosswords...
I picked anothr handfull of green tomatoes and red peppers....
I ate lunch and supper...
I read a couple chapters of my book...
I filled the bird feeder...
I got some stuff out to cook tomorrow...
And I watched an old John Wayne movie on TV.
I guess that's a pretty good day! There were a couple other things too but I guess I don't need to list them! If all this bores you, just ignore it and eat the cookies!
I posted two photos of our Arctic winter;

Good morning...
I am off to the city taking my friend to the hospital for a test. The question with be what will come first a heart valve or new pacemaker?? Afterwards we are going to hit a quilt shop and they have a huge groceries store one that also deals wih wholesale groceries. I know we will come home
beat but it should be a fun day out.
Patricia, I am just not ready for snow...I don't mind if it does'nt come until March. :)
Jane, I would say you had a busy day.... I pulled all my tomatoes. Nothing left in the garden now but parsnips.
Bubble, love the photos of your heart stealers
Better get a hitch in my get along. I packed the wheelchair and cooler last night but need to do a few things before I go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning to anyone who shows "face" in here today. My day is well on the way. Got up, made the bed, made coffee and breakfast, greeted Cooper's arrival and fed him, he took me for a VERY productive, very loooong walk and now I'm sitting here with my second cup of coffee!
It's supposed to rain again between noon and 2 p.m. That's when we usually take our second walk. I think today, we'll wait until the rain stops and get one in before his Mommy picks him up!
PATRICIA, I'm with AMY! You are more than welcome to keep the snow in your area...or send it North if you don't want it. But please don't share it to the East of you!
AMY, guess I did have a busy day because even during the movie commercials, I got up and walked circles around inside my house to help build up my steps-per-day and my mileage per day! I really find it difficult to sit still for a 3 hour movie any more!
Have a good day, Everyfriend! Make it your own in every way!
Good late morning; it's warming up again, so that means more rain. It's hazardous out there with the rain falling on the frozen, frosted ice.
Amy, Jane, our snow came from the southeast the first time and from the east, meaning Yukon Terrority the second. In any case what little accumulation is 0.01 inches, so not much is covering that ice, and the rain is not helping.
Game's over - time for bed. Goodnight all.
I came to say goodnight and for a cookie or two. There was nary a crumb so I'll turn out the lights and lock the door behind me :(
Good morning..
Little chilly this morning starting out at 36°.Today just work around home, after setting up a time for Babe to have her nails done.
After the appointment was done at the hospital my friend and I had a great time. We first hit a quilt shop...oh boy did we do damage there!! We had fun with the owner and worker and found out the work lived up where we take our dogs to the vet! Small world after all. Next we stopped for lunch at a Chinese buffet, where we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious dishes. No dessert, too full to even try it! Then onto two other stores befor heading home.
Patricia , it looks as though Rick beat you to the cookies!! I am going to bake brownies today and will restock the plate.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I baked Chocolate Chip Cookies yesterday so I'll add them to the cookie box and give you all a choice! I took one of the brownies! UMM-UMM GOOD!
Cooper arrived and had his breakfast and took me for a walk. We met his little buddy on the way. They have to sniff each other out and wag the heck out of their tails every time they meet! His owner is a pretty nice guy too!
Christy will be arriving tomorrow night and we'll close up the garden. I'll be picking the last of the green tomatoes and making sauce out of them today or tomorrow.
Don't know what else I'll get into today. AMY, it sounds like you and your friend had a great trip yesterday...lots of fun and good food!
I guess I better get started on something....
I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way!
Hello all.
Been awhile as I have not been able to get into S$F for a long time, Would not let me even start over as a new acct,
Right now I am getting help for Bubble who is working with Oldiesmann who has been trying to see what happened .
Now today looks like they entered me again and I used same name JeanneP but i gave a new password to use.
I could never get past 2016 posting but now today i am trying in Soda Shopp and it came up starting Sept, 2023 and I did get in O,K. So i will test out some other forums and hope it will be o,k again. I missed you all/
Now will wait and see if this one is showing. Someone will answer soon and will see if O,k
JeanneP --- I see those last two posts. Hopefully all will be OK again.
Good morning and particularly good morning to JeanneP whose posts I saw!
It's 31 with light rain, and we're only forecast to a high of 36 today with warnings to be careful outside on the ice with possible sleet this afternoon. We're having several fender benders as no one believes the warnings apply to them.
Amy, it sounds like you and your friend had a wonderful, tasty time yesterday with lots of quilting fabric to play with!
Jane, you had another good day yesterday with Cooper, and he had a friendship meet and greet, too! :smitten:
A guy here has the tiniest black poodle I've ever seen. It was originally his wife's, and it never stays still. Lucky bounces off the walls and any obstacle in his path. He fits in one palm; he's tiny.
I spent yesterday doing a few chores around the house and rearranging my computer. I've found that instead of writing a long to-do list that's only aggravating and putting me off, it's quicker and more reliable to list three or four daily items, and they get done.
I've gotten a few calls from people who miss our daily meet and greets as they're housebound in a smaller place than they were used to and with less to do. We may set up something similar for those, and I have to admit I would love it as well.
Welcome back JEANNEP. So good to see your posts. I hope you are now all set to come in easily🍁. I look forward to hearing how you are doing and what is new with you.
I went to my pain center doctor yesterday and he was very pleased with the relief I have from the last epidural shot. He released me and said he will be there when I need him again. Unfortunately he shared that the orthopedic surgeon that I planned on doing my neck surgery passed away last week from subside😩. He was a well known highly rated spinal surgeon.....so sad and hard to understand. He was 40 years old with a wife and son. I will now see the surgeon I saw a few months ago for a second opinion and proceed with him.
Today Bob saw a new cardiologist to see if he thought there is something else he can do about his going in and out of A-fib so often. We got a lot of suggestions and details about having ablation done. Bob is weighing out his options now. We have an appointment next week with the doctor that would do this procedure if he decides to go this way.
Today was a beautiful day.....81 degrees......the trees are so beautiful right now.....
Pleasant dreams to all.
It looks like I got in early to have two brownies and two chocolate cookies. They were all so finger-licking good, thank you, Jane and Amy.
A quick "Good Morning" to Everyfriend and a special one to JeanneP! So nice to see you back!
It's time for Cooper's arrival and I have to be ready to grab him so Frankie can be off to her job. I'll be back later.
Good morning...
Today Babe will get her nails done as the young lady was too busy yesterday. Then home to deal with a few things before I head to the sewing room. Neighbours Mom passed away and I will be looking after Callie for the next few days. We now know to leave the tv on for her as the last time when they got home she let them know she was miffed at being left alone!
Jenny, sorry to hear about your surgeon. Happy to read that the shots have been doing their job! We have often said if it wasn't for Dr appointments we wouldn't go anywhere! Seems this is what you and Bob are doing now.
Patricia and Jane, when Marlene and I go anywhere we have a good time and have others (staff etc) join in with us. Too many people have forgotten how to laugh and enjoy life.
Jeanne good to see you back and I saw the Lloyd had popped in for a bit yesterday, no post from him though.
Patricia, good idea to set up a daily meet and greet.
You notice Rick has kept quiet about the brownies and cookies? I bet he had a taste or two.. :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I did sneak in and grab a brownie. Brownies are the equivalent of bait.
The day is flying by fast! Babe did get her nails cut and the pup got his back ones done but iffy on the front. Next time she will do his front first.
Stopped at the neighbours on the back to drop off cards for him, he lost his wife last week. Seems every time I pick up the paper a friend, neighbour or acquaintance has passed. :(
Better go iron a few more quilt strips then they can be sewn together.
Time to hit the haystack! Christy arrived around 7:30. She was about a half hour later than she should have been. She said the traffic was bad around Harrisburg and it slowed her down but she arrived safely!
We've been doing lots of talking and other stuff since she got here so I haven't been on the computer and tomorrow we have some Dr. appts to keep and one is pretty far off so I don't know if I'll be in here in the morning. Maybe...maybe not!
Right now, I'm tired right down to my toenails and up to the top of my head...and everywhere in between! So I'm going to go to sleep and hope it goes away! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Make the night a good one!
Good morning..
A mixed up day here. We get our flu shots this morning so can't really get into anything untill afterwards. Neighbours got away and last night I left their tv on for Callie to have some "noise" in the home. Maybe when they get home Callie won't ignore them like she did the last time.
Have pine needles to deal with, maybe when we get home some can be raked/blown into managable piles.
Jane, enjoy your girl time with Christy!!!
Better see what I can get done before time to go into town.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
For Amy
Bubble, thank you for the laugh. I totally agree with that!! Plus I am going to pass it on to my quilty friends that will also enjoy. Thank you!
I feel the same and take refuge in Paint Shop.
Good morning...
We went to get our flu shot yesterday only to find out they also had the covid shot so we got both.I did get a bit of a sore arm out of it and then in the night got chills.
The pine needles are all raked up and I put them in the garden in between the rows of the trugs.
Today we pick up the blister packs and I think I am going to obey Bubble and go to my sewing room. The rows are ready to be put together and I am so curious as to what it will look like done!
Will see how time goes as we may nip up to the Mennonite market and pick up more apples. Seems these ones Kyle has taken a liking to and although applesauce was made I would like to do more and can it.
Jane, did you get your garden put to rest?
Patricia,we are having warm 52° weather at the moment and no snow in sight.
Rick ,have you had a frost there? We need a couple of hard frosts before I can pick the parsnips.
Better get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem today! Yesterday's trip to the dr. and the dr visit took all the "OOMPH" out of my system. All I did when we got home was loaf around!
CHRISTY made supper yesterday and Frankie was supposed to join us but she didn't think she should because she was feeling a bit "off" and she knew she'd been in contact with some people with COVID last week during her job at the hospital. So Christy took her dinner to her! And she's off today so she can see what develops! Also, we have NO COOPER over here!
I'm going to take my lonely walk and then we'll see! Christy is still sleeping. I don't know what time she went to bed but it was after I was in and asleep!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Quote from: Amy on October 20, 2023, 07:12:37 AMRick ,have you had a frost there? We need a couple of hard frosts before I can pick the parsnips.
No frost yet. The lowest it has been was around 48°. Parsnips are great but few around here even know what they are.
We've had some temps down to 44 and 43 a couple night so far but not into the 30s yet!
Today was a good day! Christy and I got the garden cleaned up and ready to go next year! And we had a good spaghetti supper. We also got our walks in and she went over to Frankie's to visit and ended up bringing Cooper over here to spend the night! I think she said Frankie is off tomorrow so she won't have to get up early if she doesn't have to care for her doggie! That might help her shake whatever it was that was making her feel bad!
I'm ready for the haystack and when I finish here, that's where I'm heading! Breakfast is ready and waiting. I made a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys" today and they're just waiting in the fridge for someone to eat them!
We got rain today beginning around 3 p.m. so my second walk was in nice gentle shower. I wore my raincoat and I was pretty dry when I got home. Only my feet were wet and that was easy to manage. It wasn't a cold, penetrating rain!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day your own in every way!
Good morning..
No sign of the sun today and we may get more rain. No hanging out laundry today :(
Lazy day today, may do up some applesauce and after I corral the dust kangaroos may go play in the sewing room.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I have a cleaning lady! Christy confessed that part of her reason for coming to stay here was to help me get my house cleaned up and ready to spend time here when the cold weather hits! She's got the garden cleaned up and two rooms inside so far. The bathroom is cleaner than its been since it was installed! I guess my eyes are worse than I thought because I don't really see what she sees! I guess I should be grateful for that most of the time! However, I do see a difference where she's done her job!
AMY, I can't believe you plan to take a day off! Is it your first day off in about 10 or 12 years? Or is it your first day off forever?
Gotta go! Things are happening and even if I don't do them, I try to put a hand in. Christy is getting ready to go spend time with a friend she's had since they were both about 8 years old. They met at school and it just clicked!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
I am still around but have been really pre-occuppied with household stuff. I am not as swift as I used to be to understand new stuff or to try to use it. By the time I spend hours to understand how to do new things I'm too tired to do anything else. :-[
It's a beautiful day here but I have two bags of apples to make into applesauce so I expect I'll enjoy the lovely autumn weather from inside the house.
Take care, All.
Good morning, with 20 degrees here in the Interior. It seems like applesauce weather for those of you less arctic. Do you make it chunky or smooth, with cinnamon or without?
I used to throw everything in a pot, later a slow cooker, add a bit of lemon juice and salt, a touch of sugar after a cook down, and add cinnamon at the last. I never followed a specific recipe, but it always tasted good! I have trouble following set recipes, a fault since childhood. A part of me was always wondering what if.
I know what you mean about not seeing things. After deep cleaning a room, I'm always surprised at the difference it makes because I do daily pickups and wipedowns and would have sworn I kept a room clean.
I finished cleaning out and resetting my computer. I have so much in removable hard drives and believe a computer runs better when it's just shy of half full. And yet, I always seem to take so much off when I do a deep clean on my computer.
I have a few gripes with companies determined to undermine that and wrest control of my laptop from me. If a program wants me to let it take all the tiny details from me in my own best interest, of course, I usually deepsix that program.
I'm hoping everyone is having a good day, and look out for the deep freeze promised for those of you this weekend in the Northeast.
Good morning...
Weather dogs came in wet, raining out now.
I did get a big pot of applesauce made yesterday and will freeze some for later.
Patricia, I like it either way ,prefer chunky but the boss likes it smooth. I don't add anything other than a wee bit of sugar in it. You mean we are to llow a recipe??? Oh oh, I may follow th first time .....maybe but after that it is all mine!
Jane, well the day started out slow but did end up in some work being done ,that's ok as today is a day of rest. Will throw supper in the slow cooker and go sew. :) Jane you have my address, give it to Christy so she will know the next house to clean.. :2funny:
Rick, it is going to take a good hard frost to makes these parsnips really tasty.I like them eith on their own or mashed with carrots. Save the cooking water to use in soups!. I bought a turnip the other day and it had to be the most tasteless one I have come across. Will ask a farmer if he planted some and if so will get some if they also have had a frost.
Phyllis, we like cream on our applesauce but my Dad liked Carnation/canned milk on his with a slice of hot toast.
Seems Jesse know colder temps are here, last night he brought in a good sized piece of wood from the wood pile. I am not fond of burning oil compared to wood but will adapt . Age is not nice when manual labour is needed and body says no! :(
Yesterday when we stopped for a few items at the grocery store they were handing out coupons for 10.00 off groceries 50.00 or more. Plus at check out the girl gave me a Lindt dark chocolate bar!! Nice surpprise !
Better get going here.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Sunday morning to ALL.
The rest of our week continued to be super busy‼️
Had my dental appointment Friday. I liked the office and everyone involved very much...bad news is they could not find anything wrong with my tooth... they tapped and tapped and pushed on gums... nothing. Xrays showed nothing so I now need to see a endodontist and let them see if they can come up with something🤷 As he was tapping and pushing on all the gums... all I could think was PLEASE DON'T CAUSE IT TO START HURTING AGAIN‼️
Friday was Konrad, our second oldest grandson was born.... he is 17😳 These kiddos just grow up way too fast‼️
We got our Covid Shots on Friday. All vaccines are now up to date.
Saturday I had my Mammogram......
I got my report back from the Color Guard test and it is fine‼️‼️‼️ Yea, no colonoscopy for me‼️
That pretty much catches me up on my news🥰🥰
AMY, it does seem that all we do is go to doctors.....we are hoping to move on to something fun, but it just never seems to end‼️
JANE, I, too, questioned if this might be the first day off EVER for AMY🤣🤣🤣🤣 I could say the same thing about YOU❣️ You two run circles around me...... Back in the day I could run with the best🤷. Loved reading about what all you and Cristy are getting accomplished ‼️
We are going to Dave's today for dinner and suffer through the Bronco / Cheeseheads game. It is a beautiful day here in the Mile High City......perfect football weather.. GO BRONCOS 🏈🏈🏈
Wishing you all a wonderful day. Continued prayers for your safety BUBBLE🙏
Good mid-morning, 17 degrees here and cloudy. This time of year, we prefer clouds as they hold some of the heat in! I'm late today. I spent some time on extra chores and took a long bubble soak. After that, I was ready to leave and return to bed, but I knew better, so here I am.
We're back to partial meet and greets. The guys backed out, but some women missed those daily check-ins. This morning, I set up six cups of stew vegetables and eight cups of mixed beans, celery, and carrots for soup mixes, with everything now in the freezer. That's all my prep for today.
Amy, oddly enough, one of my first hmmm...what if moments was with applesauce. We always made our own, and both parents would think you were dumb to spend money on something you could make faster, better, and cheaper. Anyway, I added dark green dye. I don't remember why; I was twelve a while back. I was surprised no one wanted any!
Hi Jenny! It sounds like you're just as busy and on the go as Jane and Amy!
I lonst my on-line access this morning and I don't know if this will post or not so I'm just going to try it out! Good Luck to ME!
Looks like we are more or less on the same wavy length, Jenny. My dental and mammography appointments are later this week. Oscar goes in for his annual on Tuesday.
Gottcha, JaneS.
YAY!!! it worked!!!
I came home from church and I wanted to listen to my Grandson-in-law present the sermon at his church in Houston, TX and I couldn't get on line. I left and did some kitchen stuff, had my lunch and took the Cooper-Snoop for a walk and thought it might sneak back in but it didn't. I've been all over the net tying and I did "something" that brought it back. I haven't a clue what I did.
I have the last of the tomatoes cooking and will turn them into sauce when they're ready. I'm also going to turn some leftover mashed potatoes into potato pancakes to go with the chicken that Christy took out of the freezer for our supper!
JENNNY, you gave us some good health news and some "wait and see" health news. I agree with you that drs. take up a lot of our time the older we get. I'm just thankful that I can keep going, even if I do have to hit the haystack earlier these days!
I have to get back in the groove and get some things done! Have a great day, Everyfriend!
Just in case anyone else peeks in, I'm off to the haystack. I have more company tonight and I'm sleepy and ready to close my eyes. Frankie spent the evening with us and she's also spending the night! Make it a good one! And make it a good tomorrow!
Good morning...
The neighbours are home making Callie very happy!
We are off to the city this morning Kyle has some things he wants to do and I am meeting up with friends to exchage fabric . Lots of little stops to make and then home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
??? :melt: ::)
I'm beat right down to my toenails and up to the top of my head again. Christy has taken it upon herself to attack the contents of my shed! She has things in there that she brought from her son's house in Canada when he was getting ready to move to Mexico. She didn't have room to take them home with her so they went in my shed. When Frankie moved her leftovers when in my shed! When Christy moved to Maryland her leftovers when in my shed! And it's amazing the things of mine that have been in there since I moved here. She's getting boxes ready to take with her...boxes to take to recycling...boxes to take to the second-hand place and boxes to go to the dump. And there are even a couple of things of mine that she's going to clean up and put back in the shed.
And I had a hearing appointment today. We stopped at a couple stores in town and I came upon a really neat Christmas present for a dear friend. Then we stopped at my son's store and had a nice visit between customers.
When we got home, I started supper and Christy continued to clean up outside! I'm done in!! Heading for the haystack as soon as possible! Have a good night and a nice tomorrow!
Good morning..
Raining out and may be that way most of today and tomorrow. We accomplished
most of what we set out to do yesterday. Met with friends and she laughed as her husband grabbed not one but two boxes, one was a huge tote full of fabric. He saw the look on my face and asked her did you not tell her she was getting two. Of course she laugh more and said nope. Along with this we recieved a calendar for 2024 of photos of birds she took!!
I emptied the rain barrels, of course one was filled to the brim but it finally took a tumble. little things were put away for winter that had been set out, solar lights flower pots and now just wait for the white stuff.I still have celery in the garden grown from the bottoms of store bought celery to pull.
October is flying by, or am I getting slower at getting things done??
Jane, we all need a Christy to tackle those jobs that we think twice about doing.
Jenny, seems the babies grow up way too fast. One could hug cuddle and kiss them and then in the next moment no they don't want that!
Better get ready to meet the day Kyle would like to get his hair cut if the Dad is working today.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning...
No hair cut yesterday so maybe today hubby will get one.
Neighbour is picking up our snowblower it is all set to go....too bad the operator isn't as enthusiastic about the dance.
Odd jobs that need dealing with today and then hit the sewing room.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning; we've dropped several degree points to a chilly 16 this morning. There's not much going on here other than the daily chores and habits and our meet and greets.
We did get two inches of snow, which covered all that ice out there. And the birch and tamarack out my window and across the street are still full of autumn leaves.
Winter's thinner air has made me aware of the local train schedule as it has two crossings within three blocks from me, and celestial rising and setting activities have moved further east.
Jane must be busy with Christy and family, and Amy, I don't remember you slowing down.
A Quick Hello to Everyfriend! We have been so busy I haven't even had time to think and I end up my days so tired I can't even remember my own name! But boy are we ever getting a lot done around here! Christy is a real "go-getter"! She's also a "Do-it-now" person and boy are we every doing it NOW!
I'm going to be heading for the haystack early again tonight! It beats falling asleep in front of the TV. I hope you are all having good days and peaceful nights! I'll be getting back in the groove one of these days! I miss you all!
Good morning..
Temps in the 50's kissing on the 60's today with a biit of rain thrown in. Vehicle goes in for winter tires to be put on this morning. Work around home today after that, will put a roast in the oven with vegetables around it and will pit the fixings of a ham and pea soup to cook in the IP. That covers the meals and I can sew when time permits.
Jane sounds like you two are busy bees!! Take time to rest and enjoy each others company.
Patricia, please keep the snow your way..just because Mr SB is now home that doesn't mean the dance should start.
Enjoy your day and stay say
Good Morning to AMY and whoever else peeks in! Christy is leaving right after lunch today! I'm sure as heck going to miss her! But we sure did get a lot done while she was here. We have one more thing to do....she's taking a shower right now and then we're heading to the grocery store. I'm stocking up on stuff that's running low and I'm getting the stuff to make my Christmas fruit cake. I usually do that sometime at the beginning of November so it has plenty of time to age!
My shed is standing about 1 foot and a half off the ground from all the stuff that we took out and either tossed, recycled or moved to a better place!
I guess I better get myself ready so when she says "Let's go" we can head right out the door! Have a great day, Everyfriend! Make it your own in every way!
Good late morning; I woke up at five, had my meet and greets, and succumbed to the warm nest I'd barely risen from. I didn't reawaken until 10:30. I put away yesterday's dishes and gave Farrah a few treats while making my first pot of coffee. And here I am.
Amy, I blame the Yukon Territory, as they've been sending us theirs. Still, two inches over that ice is better than more ridged ice to try to navigate. It's better than the unusual amount dumped on us in 2021. That record amount brought Anchorage snow plows and dump trucks on a 400-mile trek over mountain passes, shoveling as they came.
This is more like our usual winter amounts, and no snow is forecast. Our low tonight will be eight, and humidity will be very low if nonexistent, meaning no snow. We won't see any new snow until late November, and then less than an inch. The last part of November will see the minuses come into play, furthering the lack of snow as the cold brings in drier air.
Jane, while you will miss Christy, I'm sure you're taking pride in what the two of you've accomplished, and that shed is feeling lots lighter.
Well, Christy made it safely home to Maryland and I'm ready to hit the haystack!
I continued packing stuff in the crates that Christy emptied and I'm soon going to have all my Christmas stuff in one large plastic crate with a lid and it can come in near Christmas and then go out after Christmas. After that, I don't know what's next. I did start accumulating the things I need to make my fruit cake this year.
Tomorrow dinner will be fish and baked sweet taters and a veggie! I haven't picked a veggie yet but I will! I had leftovers for my supper.
Also, I have a new thing to do to my eyes. I had to get a pad that gets heated in the microwave for 20 seconds and then goes over my eyes for no more than 5 minutes. But I have to do this 4 times a day! I sure hope I don't fall asleep before the 5 minutes are up! It's a distinct possibility.
PATRICIA, you can keep the snow and ice in Alaska! I'm not ready for that yet. I am ready for the kids in their Halloween costumes! I sure hope they remember me and come here!
Today our temps got all the way up to the mid-70s! When Cooper and I took our last walk, I didn't even wear a jacket and I was getting hot when we got home!
I wish you all a peaceful night and a good tomorrow! Make it your own in every way!
Good Morning to ME and anyone else who shows face in here. We're getting fewer and fewer!
Good morning...
Another rainy day in the making here ,at least we don't have to shovel or dance in it.
I need a quilt backing and after scouring different quilting /fabric sites that have run out of stock I finally did find one. I am really taking my life in my hands heading to this quilt shop, the town has way too many tempation in it.....quilt shop, bakery, and yes a chocolate shop!!! We haven't been that way in a long while, can we resist all the temptations??? :2funny:
Jane, glad Christy made it back home safe and sound
Patricia, way north of us they did get a wee smattering of snow but it didn't stay.
Rick, any cookies left or does the plate have to be replenished?
Bubble, you are in our thoughts and prayers daily.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Lloyd it is so good to see you in here!!
Good morning...
Yesterday was a fun but tiring day..Kyle did get his old Sharppe cheese ,chocolates and I got fabric  .Nice to see friends again and they also have their dog that greets everyone in the store.
Working around home and maybe sewing will see how the day goes. Now I am anxious to start on the quilt I bought the backing for.
Lloyd, hope you find your way back in here.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning or whatever it is where you are or even where I am for that matter!
LLOYD, how nice to see you in here! We've missed you! Come back when you want to!
AMY, good for you...a nice trip to the stores of your choices! We do have to do that.
Cathy was here and after looking at pictures from the shed and sharing some with her family she was getting ready to head out for WM and I opened the fridge to total darkness. Both lights were burned out and what's really odd, strange and different about that.... Last night, I was looking for something in the fridge and it crossed my mind that the lights haven't been changed in years! Do you think the lights in my fridge can read minds? If they can, they must have decided it was time to "go off"!
I have to get back to work! I wish everyfriend a good day! Make it your own in every way!

Good midmorning at 10:06 and a chill five degrees outside. We won't have snow for days as snowing needs humidity, and presently, within a dry cold, there is none of that here. Luckily, there's cloud cover to hold any heat in.
I've had my coffee, meet and greets, fed Farrah, and chatted with a friend when I took the garbage out and checked the mail. So, now I'm back online. Yesterday, I spent an hour or two browsing different PSP sites and downloaded a few new tubes and backgrounds to play with.
I also found that a payment dispute of over a month had been resolved in my favor, and the disputed amount was refunded, which is also lovely. It involved a change of emails, and the company instead decided to open a separate new account and bill me twice.
I'm so glad to see Lloyd, MaryPage, and Junee posting today. It's nice to see you again!
Jane, I never notice changes around here, as there are very few of them. Somehow, the bills get paid, the food gets made, and cleaning is neverending, but life goes on, sometimes too much on and on!
Amy, lucky you with all your favorite shops and meeting friends and enjoying visiting.
I do most of my visiting on the phone and an occasional outing, nothing like it was three years ago. Covid and climate changed so much of what we took for granted.
Bubble, evil never prevails, but it causes so much pain and misery before it's destroyed.
Snow on the ground and freezing temperatures outside so it is time for me to slow down and get caught up here in the Soda Shoppe‼️
So good to read all the posts and to catch up with what all you are doing🥰
This was another super busy week. We are clicking off a lot of medical needs and that is good. I will be having my neck surgery as soon as it can be scheduled. Doc said two to three weeks....scheduler sad 4 to 5. Nothing I can do but cool my heels 🤣🤣 I am not looking forward to it, of course, but it is getting more uncomfortable by the day😩
Bob did see the new cardiologist yesterday and we REALLY liked him. He spent so much time explaining exactly what A-fib is as well as many details pro and con and we felt very good about our decision when we left his office. Because I hope to have surgery before the end of the year, Bob will continue on his current meds that were changed at the last cardio visit and so far he has not been in A-fib since.
As I mentioned before, we have started with a new dental office and so far have been so happy. They are very thorough and extremely respectful and caring. As many of you know it is not only the pain of doing dental work but the cost is frightening‼️ We do have some insurance but it is not the
best and the front office lady was so kind regarding costs etc. and has offered to see if she can find a different one for us to switch to next year. We go back next week for further treatments.
JANE, your Christy is quite the gal. Boy we could sure use someone like her to get us moving instantly.....she really took the bull by the horn on your shed‼️‼️‼️. At the same time, it is totally understandable that you were tired right down to your Sox‼️‼️🤣🤣. How strange about the lights in your fridge🤷
PATRICIA, good to read that your payment dispute is settled and IN YOUR FAVOR‼️‼️
WOW AMY, sounds like you really scored by getting TWO boxes of fabric‼️‼️. I had to chuckle at you questioning the temptations of going to the quilt, bakery, chocolate shoppes.....yes, they are ALL certainly BIG temptations and you did not even mention the cheese shoppe‼️‼️‼️ We are getting more and more convinced we DO need to allow ourselves these little luxuries.....you have worked hard and now deserve to treat yourselves to things you enjoy🥰🥰 We are so frugal we talk ourselves out of little treats and as Bob reminds me.....our children WANT us to enjoy our life and do not want any money left over for them....the flip side is our fear that our monies might not last😩😩😩
On that note I need to go start some dinner. I am taking a weekly shot for my diabetes....Ozempic and it makes me so nauseated I can hardly think of food. I am on a sample from my doctor right now. So far I have not seen much change in my blood sugar level's and even worse no sizable touted weight loss. With as little as I am able to eat I should be dropping weight with out the drug. My cost will be in excess of $600 a month....'I do not think I am dumb enough to take this on with the two major things about it being so negative 😩
Thoughts and prayers for you and your family and friends BUBBLE.🙏
I just stopped by to say good night so....Good Night Everyfriend. Nice to see all of you popping in!
JENNY, you are so right about Christy! She is a DOER big time! She got so much done while she was here and I don't feel like I did my share but she says I did. And Cathy is back home and she took a look and couldn't believe how much space there is in the shed!
I also hope all goes well with the Drs. for you and your guy! When we need them we really appreciate the good ones. You're lucky to have found them!
I'm off to the haystack now. Cooper is spending the night with me because Frankie went out on the town and is spending the night with her friend! He's already in bed and I know I'll have to movee him to get my space! Have a good night and a good tomorrow. Make it your own in every way!
Good morning.
Don't think we are to get rain but high winds are predicted. The high winds yesterday dried the laundry fast!!
A day of rest here and hope to put the last rows on the quilt ,then clean/tidy up the sewing area and start another one.
Jenny, good to see both you and Bob have great Drs. We are also lucky to have one here as some people have gone years without one! More Drs are retiring next year and not enough coming back into the work force. The two boxes of fabric was like opening up Chrismas gifts! THe lady is not making a lot of quilts anymore and gave me most of her stash! Big pieces ,little pieces that will all go into quilts!
Jane, did you get much room in the bed? I can just picture you and Coop each trying to get the most comfortable spot!
Patricia, that white stuff that makes one dance is said to come on Monday. Weather people are not always right so maybe it will go elsewhere. Nice that you won over the dispute. Since covid a lot has now changed and businesses have closed, others still struggling to keep their head above water.
Better get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Message from Callie!
Hi, everyone. I'm reading but have sprained my wrist on my right hand (dominant hand) and am wearing a soft brace until it heals, It's challenging to try and brush teeth or eat as a "leftie" ;D! Managed to type this but can't do replies. Will be back when I can.
Could someone please put this in the soda shoppe?
:hugs:
   Finally finished the quilt and now can move on to another one. Feels that cold that snow can be in the air tonight!
Ok Jane and Patricia, where are you ladies???
Thank you for letting us know about Callie Marilyn. Callie I am a lefty , lots of fun in a right handed world :))
Time to take the pup out for a Frisbee play, I just wish I had his energy.
Hello Friends! Sorry I didn't get in here today. When I got home from church it was around 12:30. We had a special "after-service" history session and then lunch. When I got home, Cooper was already gone. Frankie came by and picked him up.
I got busy and involved and just didn't find my way here but I sure did get a lot of stuff put away! I'm still working on the things Christy brought in from the shed and there were a lot of pictures and that sure takes time to go through them but the memories are great!
Now I'm heading for the haystack and I don't know if I'll get in or not. Cooper will be arriving at 6:45 and will need his breakfast and a walk. And I have to be ready to leave in time to be at a dr. appt 25 miles away and up on the 4th floor by 9:15. This is the one where he checks out the surgery that I had almost 2 years ago and if there are no cancer cells back, it's pretty sure they will never be back. If you think of it, say a prayer!
AMY, Cooper is a snuggler and I have to hold my ground or he'll snuggle me right out of the bed! I think we have that worked out! I kind of like the snuggling since I learned to hold my territory!
Now I'm heading for the haystack before my eyes slam shut and I can't see where to go! Have a good night and a good day tomorrow. Make it your own in every way! Or share it with friends! That's even better!
Jane...
...praying you come out of that Dr's room, re-assured and relieved...
Good Morning! And thank you JACKIE for the prayers. Every one helps! I'll be back later with a report!
Good morning...
Well, we did get snow last night....but it won't stay...for now.
Need to take garbage away and then home to work, will see if I can squeeze some sewing in.
Jane, holding ones ground with a dog is near immposible when claiming space in the bed. As you know, you're always in my prayers. Last night you were at our table for dinner, we had Jane's cole slaw and that is on the label.
Meeting friends for coffee/tea so had better put and egg in my boot and beat it.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning at 25 degrees and thankfully cloudy in the Interior. Yesterday's winds finally blew away all those leaves, and now the limbs look skeletal against the snow and ice.
I've dealt with the chores, fed Farrah, made coffee, and talked or texted with the meet and greets. I made tentative plans for shopping this weekend or perhaps next week with maybe some lunch. Other than that, I'll see what's new on the news and email.
WELL i CANT SEAM TO JUST LOG IN AND PSRTISAPAT LIKE i USED TO. NEED HELP
Patricia, our snow didn't last. Now the yard is a wet mess, must admit it was pretty to look at.
I missed watching the neighbour let his dogs loose on the geese, the geese are twice the size of the dogs but take to the air when chased.
Friend hit a doe hit his truck, doe died out right and friends of his came and collected the carcass to put in their freezer. Thankfully it wasn't left to rot.
Hi Lloyd, hope both you and Nancy are well.
Amy, it is illegal here to do that. When an accident occurs, a rotating group of charities salvages for the people or organizations under that particular charity.
We have one inch on the ground after the various snowfalls, which is normal here, unlike the past two winters.
We have some ducks, geese, and various birds no longer migrating but overwintering. Biologists ask people not to feed them so they won't overwinter, but that's not happening. It's odd to see geese wandering about in the snow.
NO NEW CANCER CELLS IN MY CHEEKS!! HOORAY!!
Jane..
..good news, now you can relax and get on with your life and put all your worries behind you..
Jane, I'm so happy for you! :cheer:
It's been a good day and I thank you for the prayers and thank yous. Now I'm off to the haystack. I'm tired right down to my shoe laces. And even my hair is tired. Sleep well and wake refreshed. Greet the day with a smile!
JaneS, Hallelujah! So glad to hear you're rid of any cancer cells! Praise the Lord !
Good morning...
So good to wake up to good news Jane :smitten: .Kyle knows that feeling when they say no cancer!
Light dusting of snow last night nothing to worry about just hope it is good weather for the kids tonight out trick or treating.
The Mennonite market will soon be closing and I want to get more apples before they do, will see if we can go there today. Tiding up my sewing room is another chore to do. Lots to do, just need the get up and go to get it done.
Patricia, one has to get permission from the MNR first here, if a deer dies in a collision and no one wants it there are people that will come dress it and they used to give it to the food bank, not sure what they do now. My concern is that it doesn't go to waste.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Cooper is sitting beside the door waiting for his walk but I wanted to say "Thank you" to all who are with me in my praise for the good news!
It's cold here this morning! It hit 34 over night and it's time to think of winter! I'd rather not but....oh well What comes...comes!
WHERE IS EVERYONE HIDING!
