A Brand New Start
by Jill Lemming
God sometimes brings us to a place
where answers can't be found...
Where we cannot see tomorrow,
for confusion all around.
Yet deep inside we realize
that all things work for good...
Even times when we've been wounded
and we feel misunderstood.
Don't dwell on the injustice
and stay focused on God's heart...
Find forgiveness and go on,
you can make a brand new start.
Circle of Life
by Shelly Middleton
The leaves have turned from green to brown,
those have fallen to the ground.
Some are orange and some are red,
those still linger over head.
The air has turned from warm to chilled.
The harvest sets out in the field.
Soon the trees will all be bare.
The winter chill will soon be here.
The snow will fall and cover the land,
a beautiful white like ocean sand.
Nights grow long, days disappear.
But hope falls eternal, spring is so near.
Flowers will bloom in the defrosted ground.
A seasons renewal, rebirth will be found.
Then summer burns the daylight bright.
Children play into the night.
Circle of Seasons from dark into light,
remind us forever of the circle of life.
An elderly woman went to her doctor, complaining about not being able to hear out of one ear.
The doctor then took his penlight, looked in her ear, then took his tweezers, reached in, and pulled something out.
After examining the object for a second, he exclaimed,
"Well...it seems you inserted a suppository into your ear...".
The old lady thought for a second, then responded
"Gee...I guess that explains why I can't find my hearing-aid...
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."

Good morning..
Thank you for the new start Bubble.. did you also know you can't put two hearing aids in one ear? Just ask Kyle and he will tell you it doesn't work. :2funny:
Been busy and another busy day ahead..frost overnight we may see a high of 62° today.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good Morning, Everyfriend! I'm getting ready to have lunch with one of my former high school classmates. Cathy will be driving me there to meet her and her daughter will be driving her there to meet me. Our daughters were also high school classmates! So the four of us will have lunch together. I wonder how often that happens!
After lunch, we might stop at a local store to pick up some stuff and then again, we might not!
Frankie will be coming here for supper and then to spend the night. I'm looking forward to that! She's going to get the stuffed pork chops ready to bake and this morning she said she's bringing the potatoes, too. All I have to do is make sure the pork chops are thawed and make a vegetable! Sounds like an easy job for me!
I wish you all a good day today! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that! We might want to try your way!
Thanks, Bubble, for using one of my graphics again. And for including one of my favorites, Robert Frost...a wise New England farmer who was a talented poet.
Happy October, everyone.
Happy October Oneth!
Busy day today. Son took me to a medical appointment (all good  ), housekeeper came at the same time to clean while we were gone, and son is now running errands in my car, which hasn't been driven in about a month!
We'll have sliders, applesauce Jello and potato chips for lunch he gets back. Then clean and change batteries in solar lights in flower beds.
THEN, I'll think I'll
Have a good day, Everyfriend.
Good morning, so nice to see so many lost posting again. We had our first snow, which melted, but each morning sees rooftops whitened and glistening.
We've decided on possibly waiting until the fourth or the fifth for our morning brunch and shop, so I may brave the chill and pay some bills tomorrow. I'll also be ordering some necessities from Amazon sometime this week, not sure when, but that's all. No waiting on anyone's packages, so that's good, and about it for the day other than my PSP classes.
I hope everyone's day is good and tomorrow better, and add my best wishes for a happy, sane month.
Whispering good morning...
Think Rick is still sawing zzzz'ss..
Another busy day but not as bad as yesterday..temp is 28° so great for working outside..
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
I'll try to be quiet, too, Amy. David helped me get down stairs and then went back to his bed to try to squeeze in some more sleep so I will sit here and drink my coffee. 55 here and cloudy. I'll finish some potato soup that I started yesterday, and try to catch up on some paper work and that's about it.
Take care, All.
Go ahead, ---scream your heads off. :jump: 7:00 is my get up time, unless I'm lucky and can sleep till 7:30ish. We made it down to about 47 last night. Still no signs of a killing frost. Not even a light frost.
Good morning, now that everyone's up.
Good Night to all my friends~ I have a few things to finish up and then I'm going to hit the sack! Cooper will be arriving tomorrow morning about 5:45. Frankie has to be to work at the hospital by 6 a.m. It's too early to go for a walk because it's still dark so he waits patiently until I say, "ok Cooper, it light enough for a walk and in not time he's at the door!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and great day tomorrow. Be sure to come by and tell us what you are doing with your day. Maybe we'll join you! Happy October!
Good morning..
Brrr...temp is 31° at the moment. Another busy day taking away all the bags of pine needles and then home to work. Made pork schnitzel and froze 4 packages for later on meals. Tested some that didn't get vacummed sealed along with creamed peas and it was good.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Not quite as cold here, but we were down to 47° overnight. Today might just be the day the heat gets turned on - if it doesn't warm up outside. This house holds the heat, but also holds the cold.
Yesterday was a pleasant 24C for the Kippur 25H fast and for the first time in years I was not even thirsty. Today on the other hand it is 33C inside, and I heard that it was 40C on the beach, on the display atop the safeguard cabin.
For the mext three days it will drop to 27C. The winter hasn't arrived yet.
Good Friday morning everybody,
I had another round of severe symptoms the 29th. Ick! It took me aa couple of days to climb out of the pit. In the meantime we've had days and nights of pouring rain. My internet went ka-pooie. Night time temps mid-upper 40°sF, day time temps in the 60°s. We had hard frost a couple of nights the week before, and it looks like we're plunging into night time lows at or near freezing again, this coming week, with 50° day time highs. Definitely fall transitioning to winter. Fall was short.
Yumm, everybody's warm cooking: soup, sliders, pork chops, etc., sounds so tasty!!! My ability to swallow has taken a dive, so I'm back to liquids. I am eating, which is a blessing. Really needed that reminder, Bubble! Thank you!
Hoping to get the internet booster set up securely (from rodents and ungulates) tomorrow.
Marilynne, thanks for the " :smitten: ", right back at you! :smitten:
Exhausted (too soon), need to rest.
Take care!
Good morning, sounds as if we all have the same weather, 37 now but only a high of 45 with rain continuing and possible snow. It's been nine inches in the passes, with two highways affected.
I'm leaving shortly for brunch and a little shopping and bill paying, so here's to everyone having a good, safe, warm, and sane day!
I had a long and friendly chat with our resident physician last week who, as it turns out, is also a psychiatrist. During the course of our conversation he revealed that I am in the early stages of alzheimers. I suppose that I should have been troubled by that news, but I wasn't; I'm 90 years old and in good health so, at that age I would expect something to be wrong with me, and this is it. I am not wringing my hands and wailing woe is me; I'm just getting on with my life and enjoying myself and will continue to do so.
Hi Don! Great to see you here..
Getting forgetful is not the end of the world, we will all get to that stage, sooner or later.
We are in the middle of the great holidays period, between Rosh Hashana New Year and Succot * days celebration. It means a lot of festive meals and of course overeating too LOL
You remember when you helped me prepare borekas?
We could bake a batch of them and put them in the hidey hole for all you memebers!
Have a pleasanr weekend!
Good morning..
We are going from freeze to fry weather this coming week. Just when you thought no more a/c there is a strong possibility of it being turned on! Temp is 49° at the moment.
Working inside today ,will hang laundry out but that is it.
Don, I second Bubbles. "great to see you" and it is not the end of the world.
Bubble..recipe ..for borekas???
Everyone has been fed but the fish and that is next. At least they don't hollor for food like the crows!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Hello Everyfriend! It's been "one of those days"! I ran out of batteries for my hearing aids and Cathy doesn't have time to go for them. I told her I'll be good for at least 5 days because both of them have new batteries.
It's so nice to see all of you posting! The weather here is up into the 70s today but it goes down into the 40s overnight. It's definitely early Fall weather in Central Pennsylvania. We could have some warm days in October but it's definitely Fall where I live!
Cindy (my best follower at Girl Scout Camp back when I was a counselor) amd O I had a discussion about some of the things we made over the campfires. One that stuck out was "picheeams". And it stuck in my mind. Today I went through the cupboards and found everything I needed to make them and I had one for my lunch. I'll have another one for my lunch tomorrow and I have two more and some of the stuff to make another batch. I love them and I used to make them at home for my family and they all liked them. FYI...it's a slice of meat, a slice of pineapple and cheese on top. And you eat it on a hamburger bun. And that description is making me hungry for another one! I might not be able to wait for tomorrow's lunch!
I wish you all a good rest of te day and a peaceful night's sleep! I also wish you a good day tomorrow. Make the day your own in every way!
Good noontime, is that a thing? I was out a while with friends and picked up a few items I'd forgotten the last time. We had our usual brunch out, eggs, bacon or sausage with potatoes, toast and marmalade. I may not want to eat again until tomorrow.
We did let each other know how we felt about the world's problems, other issues, and our opinion of those thinking they could fix them. Of course, others may disagree, some within our own families. But debate is good if we remember that courtesy plays a large, important part in any discussion.
I was just over at Norm's where Callie, Marilyne and I were discussing mountains and our perceptions of them depending on where we lived and what we knew. I certainly learned a lot from both.
Amy, we're at 39 presently, never did get that nine inches promised yesterday, although they did in the mountains. We simply had gray days with accompanying rain. Yesterday, we had very cold wind gusts that felt like it could lift you and carry you off. Evidently that will be our usual weather at least through Monday, the thirteenth.
Don and Bubble, so nice to see your posts! Don, you are missed, and it comes to us all, both my sister and mother had Alzheimer's.
Jane, I'd never heard of picheeams, and I was a girl scout between six and fourteen and even a camp counselor one year at girl scout camp. Although my main focus then, as was with most of the counselors, was the boy scout camp and their counselors who we used to meet at night, in the middle of the lake, via canoes when we could get away. We thought we were so grown up, flirting across the waters.
Good morning..
A day of rest here, only the to do's will get done and the rest can wait until tomorrow
.
Tossing a coin as to eith make a cake or buy a cake for Kyle's birhday
tomorrow.Cakes are so big or so it seems now and it takes us forever to eat one.
Temp is 49° and heading up into the 80's today..hmm...buy a cake then I am not heating the house up!!
Patricia, I am sure you don't mind getting all that snow..but it will come soon enough.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Bubble..recipe ..for borekas???
Borekas
open a pack of puff pastry and with a rolling pin stretch it thinly; cut into small squares 3" to 4".
Fill with one big tsp of filling in the center, fold in half into a triangular shape, trim the edges with the back of a fork, to be sure it is well sealed.
Arrange on a lightly oild baking tray, brush with a beaten egg and sprinkle with some sesame seeds. Bake 400F for about 25 minutes or until golden.
Fillings
Potato:
3 large mashed potatoes
1 1/2Cups grated cheese -cheddar and parmesan
3 eggs
salt + pepper and mix until smooth
Pumpkin:
2lbs pumpkin boiled, well drained and mashed
1 1/2Cups grated cheese -cheddar and parmesan
1 beaten egg
1tsp oil
3/4 tsp cinnamon
salt and mix until smooth
Spinach:
2 bunches of spinack, remove stalks, wash and shred finely
1 1/2Cups grated cheese -cheddar and parmesan
1 beaten egg
1 tsp flour
salt + pepper and mix together
I also make a filling with eggplant, onions, tomatoes cut small and cooked until very soft + salt and pepper.
This is what the family always prefers.
This can be frozen, baked or raw.
Good morning, another day of rest after I take the garbage out and haul a few loads down the hall to the laundry. Morning routines, coffee, and feeding everyone are finished, and meet and greets are on going.
Amy, at this point I'd welcome a little snow, emphases on little. At almost 8AM, it's 42 and cloudy with a promised, what else, shower later. I've got a large package due Tuesday with plant pots, stakes, and plant grips to hold a plant upright. This will be the third year I've had to repot. I did learn that what was sold as cacti are actually succulents, and my huge, seemingly huge philodendra is actually a dracaena. After three years of growing, some of the leaves are beginning to split.
Another odd one is my huge-variegated spider plant that has finally sent out babies. Mine must be either late bloomers or the grow lights have done their jobs. I did finally get one of those plant apps so I can see what I thought was one plant is another or is acting erratically.
Since Alaska has banned any plants or plant seeds not produced instate, and I don't have access to the two instate nurseries, that have outrageous shipping policies, I rely on local stores that often, such as with the cacti, don't know that much.
Bubble, thank you for these Borekas recipes. They sound so interesting and tasty! I've sent it to my sister. She's out of state for a friend's 50th wedding celebration. It's odd that my younger sister has a friend who has been married for 50 years! I've saved your post for a later attempt!
Good morning..
A cooler 46°morning but nice so far, heading into the 80°'s. Making dog food today and a bit of laundry and that is it. I did break down and buy a cake and will share it .
Bubble, I have everything on hand for the potato cheese Borekas! Thank you for posting the recipe.
Leaves are not the vibrant colours this year, maybe next year will be better.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Slow start here today. No particular plans, and it was decent out there when I went to pick up the Paper
Good morning everyone,
I'm on the mend and ambient pesticide is waning. It is clear this morning with a low of 29°F. High expected around 60°. My solar batteries are at 50%, and no wood stove installed yet, however Ron cleverly wired the remote gen into the Tiny House and I can run the gen with a fob. Not only does it augment the solar charge but allows me to run the heat when the sun is not shining directly on the panels. While it gets chilly inside between runs in the morning, the Tiny House doesn't lose heat in minutes like the RV. I do have the signal booster installed. The primary tower seems to be down, so signal is improved, but not up to previous levels that we tested out at. I'm only running it during gen runs until full sun and battery charge is back to 100%. Looks like I'll be darning woolen socks today.
Good morning all. See yesterday's post because today is following suit.
Good morning...
A beautiful rain is kissing the ground!!This rain is to keep up all day and into the evening.let's hope it does!
Yesterday didn't turnout they way I had planned but close enough. Dog food made and since we used a utility wagon for the new generator we didn't have one to take the furniture off the front porch. Bought one and put it together and we are good to go now.
Today is a "whatever" day...what ever strikes my fancy on getting done.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good morning, Friends! Beautiful day here. Hope all are well and content today.
Take care, All.
Good morning everyone. Amy, looks like your rain is headed this way - due late tonight and into tomorrow. But the sun shines now :)
My daughter and family are flying tomorrow to New York. Please, keep it sunny! It is the present Aviv asked for his Bar mitzva: magical America lol
Bubbe, we're expexting rain in the morning tomorrow (Wednesday) but it is supposed to clear by noon - then nice days. I hope they enjoy their trip.
Morning everyone, I won't say good because the rain has contained and now, Flood warnings,

Light to moderate rain will move into Interior Alaska Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. Rainfall totals of between 0.5 and 1.5 inches are expected in the uplands near Fairbanks and along the Dalton Highway. This rainfall is expected to melt 3 to 12 inches of snow that covers higher elevations above 2000 feet and will increase runoff into small streams and rivers. Water levels on small streams and rivers are expected to rise rapidly and cover gravel bars and in localized areas approach bankfull levels on Wednesday into Thursday.

We had steady rain for over a month and this last may be just what's needed to flood different low areas as we have one river running through town, and part of it is less than a block from my building and two others encircle the city. Plus, all the sloughs, creeks and ponds that come with. This low country flooding is almost a certainty, with all three rivers at or close to bank full now.
This is October, and the cherry on top would be more snow over flooding. Thanks, climate change!
On a happier note, Bubble, I hope your family, and especially Aviv, have the time of their lives in the city.
;) Thanks Patricia
Good Morning Everyfriend! Christy left early to meet one of her school friends who still lives in town. I'm watching the two doggies and keeping house. I won't bore you with the details. I don't think you're really interested. I do wish you a GREAT DAY!
Good morning..
All morning chores have been done and been to town and back!! Now to do some work.
Rick ,we did get a nice rain but as usual could use more.
Jane, yes I would like to know more! Do the doggies play or just tolerate each other?
Better get going..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on October 08, 2025, 09:07:57 AMRick ,we did get a nice rain but as usual could use more.
Amy, - I'll try to send it back. No sun here this morning. It is dark and raining. Today was the paper pick up day for recycling, but I didn't put anything out to get soaked.
Amy, we have rain scheduled through the 14th, crazy fall/winter weather. Maybe if I huff and puff and blow real hard, that is without aspirating myself, I can send you as much as I can. My sister is in the 80s, you're in the 50s, and I'm feeling sorry for myself in the 40s.
All morning routines, meet and greets and tidying has been done and coffee just brewed, so I'm off to see what's new on the internet.
Good morning..
On the run again this morning and all accomplised! Now to settle down and get some work done. We had a heavy frost last night so that means I can pull the carrots and parsnips.
Neighbours are home now and they can pull and open their drapes. :2funny:
They did try to see Oak Island but it wasn't open. :(
Rick,we will take the rain. They have just lifted the no burn ban to burn only at night in thiis area.
Patricia, it was 22° when I first got up. Tad chilly!!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone,
I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts. I'm especially glad to see both Phyllis and Jane posting. I get how you feel Jane, about not having anything out of the ordinary to post. I sometimes feel that way. But when I see you post those thoughts I'm pulled up short, because its important to me to see you post. Its not the content of what you post that matters to me, its reading that you are there. You are precious, and matter even if we were to "sit together without saying much." The same with Phyllis and everyone of you. So I'm posting, even though I haven't done much more than "chores" since I last posted. The horrific effort it took for me to move all my stuff in here in short order followed by the spray and being poisoned has left me weak and easily exhausted. I can only do a very little and then I have to rest. A lot. Its very boring. Who would want to hear that my grand accomplishment for the day is managing the solar and generator power so I can stay moderately comfortable? Or that by the time I get up, dressed and the bed made I'm exhausted? Meh, boring. I rest a lot, then do a little thing. Tuesday I rigged up a drape for each of the 2 gable windows to keep the heat in. Wowzer!🙄 It was nothing, but it was exhausting. Yesterday my big thrill was installing white foam insulators behind the cover plates of the switches and plug-ins on all the exterior walls (also to keep the heat in). There were only 7. Again, wiped me out. So little by little, I'm putting the tiny house in order. Last night I actually got to sleep though! Recovering! That was huge.
Our weather was in the upper 20°s- lower 30°s for lows and 50°s-60° for highs the first part of the week. We're moving into the 40°s for lows with high 60°s-70° for the highs, yesterday. We're heading again for cooler temps and lots of rain this weekend. Possibly snow. Wishing my woodstove was installed.
I read a lot while resting. This week I've read Ivanhoe, Treasure Island, Prisoner of Zenda, and the Three Musketeers. I also read Last of the Mohicans, which I enjoyed until the end. Then not. I can download them free from gutenburgproject.com
Quote from: OnLonelyMountain on October 09, 2025, 10:02:27 AMWho would want to hear that my grand accomplishment for the day is managing the solar and generator power so I can stay moderately comfortable?
I suspect we all would/do. I especially like hearing about the building of the Little House.
I'm me - of few words. Not a good writer, but I'm always looking in to see what's up.
We haven't even had a light frost yet(Just north of NYC), and I'm looking for a killing frost - to take care of allergy causing weeds (Ragweed).
Good morning. Our weather is the same, raining, 39 presently with an expected high of 47. All routines, meet and greets in progress, coffee planned.
I have two meetings scheduled today, re my low vision and received more paperwork about another matter. That's my plans for the day.
Good morning..
Starting off at 26° or as Joan would say geemogotchees weather!
Parsnips are all pulled or rather dug...they did well this year and some are well over a foot long! Today the carrots will be pulled I hope.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning. Glad you are feeling a tad better, OLM. I understand what you are saying about feeling so tired. I call myself a 15 minute worker...do fifteen minutes of work and rest for 30 minutes. And then pat myself on the back for doing that much.
Amy, do you welcome the slower pace of daily life that winter brings or do you ever experience a slower pace in your life? It seems to me that you never slow down.
Jane, it doesn't matter what you say or how you say it, the fact that you are still with us is what is important. Please just keep talking.
Chilly in N.Carolina, too, Rick and Patricia. Wouldn't mind if you would keep that cold stuff up where you are. :)
Take care, All.

So far we've kept it above the Frost level - and the ragweed pollen keeps coming. 40ish this morning, and the sun is shining right now.
Good morning everyone,
Rick, I'm glad you find my tiny house progress interesting.🙂 I hope you find the project list interesting as well. Next up: the hearth, followed by the exterior sheetmetal cladding. Currently the hardy backer (cement boards as the substrate for heat shield is lying under the grandkids tree fort. So it won't get wet. I look out several times a day calculating and wishing I could get out and seal it. Cement outgasses caustic VOCs. Ron will need to install it, I can't handle the sheets, let alone cut them. Ron is not coming this weekend. He stocked me up with 2 weeks worth of groceries. So no progress can be made until next weekend. He had chores on the farm he wished to do. One was to pour a slab there for an auto shop he's building. Another is to take the flock of sheep to sale. That is where the money for the metal roofing and siding will come from. He is also working on his business projects. This 2 week trial is also necessary as a test run for his elk season. So he can go, enjoy himself and not worry about me. Once the framing and cement board are done on the hearth I can do the tiling and grout, both while he's gone and while he's putting up the metal. His next project will be installing the flue and chimney. We can move the woodstove (400lbs.) onto the hearth once its cured. I will have heat and cooking that is not dependent on electricity. Yay! Then I can determine how much tile remains and where I will put it. I have 2 additional tile projects I'd like to do. One is a small entrance pad at the door. The second is in the bathroom. The size of the bathroom project will be determined by how much tile remains. I was thinking just in front of the shower; Ron was thinking the whole bathroom floor. We'll see. Following that we will then have accurate measurements to order the tongue in groove bamboo flooring. I doubt we'll get all of that done before I go home for the winter, but we'll see.
I have a couple of minor activities I can do today: I keep finding more staples I need to drive, or remove. I need to seal the pull down ladder to the loft. The aluminum keeps coming off on my hands.
O.k., now lets address something you said, your problems with ragweed and pollen... as a young person I had terrible allergies. I've spent a major part of my life searching out answers. My chemical exposures give me Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Thats the underpinning of allergies. Mast cells produce mucus, which protects the body. Over stimulated mast cells over produce mucus, hence allergies. My grandson also has "hayfever" that is miserable. Over the counter antihistamines drug us up and make our world "dull." I've found an herbal "tea," as well as using a homeopathic of the same, heals the Mast Cell over stimulation in myself, as well as my grandson Joey's terrible "hayfever." That is Solidago, or Goldenrod. You can buy it online or at most stores where herbal teas are sold. Get organic, or wild crafted. When Joey comes I make him a cup and he drinks about 3 Tablespoon in the morning and again in the afternoon. All his itching and congestion clear up in minutes. Its certainly worth a shot...
Phyllis, 😀 I like that 15 minute worker label! And the back pat too!
OLM - I will look into the Solidago. I have been taking Allegra, and it doesn't have those same sedating affects that others do. Have had allergies most of my life that I can remember. As a young person there was a list of foods that I couldn't eat . Sneezing up to 17 times in a row wasn't uncommon. - now have overcome the food and sneezing problem. Still runny and itching.
You mention metal siding. Tell me about that. Do you mean aluminum?
Good morning, 38, chilly still with rain. High today will be 41 with a low tonight of 27. No real change in the weather, no snow, more rain and a gradual lowering of temperatures. The promised earlier snow never made it out of the mountains.
I went to the low vision meeting yesterday, a lot of options but mainly for those worse than me. I was fascinated by all the options, one very interesting is you can have an app that connects to your specialized glasses and gives you directions depending on where you're looking.
There is another where you ask the app to call a number, and you're given an option to have a person see what you're seeing and give you verbal instructions depending on where you are or where you're going. And that was only two out of many. I am going to contact the local Lions club to see if they can help me find a doctor to do my eye operation. It's been two years now, and they won't prescribe glasses until I've had the operation.
Phyllis, winters here, like any arctic region, are very dry, you can tell when the humidity drops in your skin, your breathing, and for me in whether I have a low grade headache or not. Even with the rain, you can feel it. Yesterday was one percent humidity, today is forty-nine, and tomorrow will be one percent humidity.
This continuous rain is a new phenomenon, we had it last winter and most of the latter summer. The trees have yet to drop most of their leaves. We're in a holding period.
Amy, I have half of my plants transplanted from the 11" containers into the new 13" ones. I will have to wait on the last four, as we received notices late yesterday that the water will be shut off today from nine until noon, so they can do some work on the system.
Good morning
We had rain overnight and the temp is 49° ,happy that all root crops are in now. Measured one parsnip and from the top of the parsnip(no leaves) it is over 36" long! One weighed over a pound and hope they are not woody at that size. Washing the carrots today and misshaped ones will be cooked up for Jesse.
Phyllis, I thought summer would be easier than the winter we had but it did keep me going with gardenng, pickling, wood and everything else that needed doing. Hope winter is more laid back.
Patricia, did you get your water turned back on?
Better start the day, all have been fed but the fish.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 29 presently and today is supposed to start a period of cloudy skies but no rain until Monday. The rest of the month is said to be cloudy but dry. We've had some minor flooding in low-lying areas, but nothing major.
I know the state fair was bad, with steady rain and low attendance. Interesting note on the fair, Anchorage and Fairbanks went head-to-head, many years ago, claiming theirs was the only true state fair. A judge broke the stalemate by declaring that the term, state, would alternate years between the two cities.
Meet and greets and morning routines are finished with everyone fed and first coffee is in hand.
Amy, the water came back on just before one pm, and I hope this is the end of the drain saga.
I'll get to the last four plants today and I have three PSP lessons to finish and turn in and that should be all for today.
I was surprised with how much older Aviv looked in Illy's photos. He looks so mature, even from his bat mitzvah photos.
Rick,
I tried that one too. Its an upper. Another thing that reduces mucus and is great for allergies, colds and flu is quercetin. You can get a supplement, but it tastes like old banana peels. Pretty disgusting (I have to open the caps and take them over yogurt). However, one can get quercetin from boiling the skin of an organic grapefruit and an organic lemon. Its in the white of the citrus fruit. I froze the cooled liquid into ice cubes and put one in my herbal tea. At that time echinacea. It was one of the things I did to treat covid when I got it. Very effective. I hadn't learned about solidago then. Its also in onions. I use homeopathic allium (onion) to treat my MCAS.
I don't know if its aluminum siding. I never bothered to ask what its composition was. Its the typical medal siding on industrial buildings. We have it on our shop at the farm. It comes in lots of colors. We have wood T-111 on the top half of the exterior walls of the tiny house. We get 5' of snow typically in the winter up here, so we're putting the metal on the bottom half, and the roof.
Good morning..
Another chilly start to the day at 36°. A day of rest here..maybe. Just have dog food to package and freeze.
The one pound parsnip was cooked yesterday and I fully expected it to be woody but it wasn't. Nice surprise. Traffic was like a stream of ants last evening ,will be the same on Mon with everyone heading home. Ususally folks close up their cottage by Thanksgiving here.
Better go feed the fish.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, presently 37, looking at a high of 48 with a low of 34. Tomorrow will be back to rain. At this point, snow would be nice, would insulate the ground and perhaps warm some.
Morning routines, meet and greets ongoing and still coffee to make, and the last four plants still awaiting repotting. All the group have sniffles and sneezes, and no one's in a good mood.
Amy, I hope your Thanksgiving tomorrow will be warm, cozy and heartfelt. I know it will be full of food and tradition.
Here's hoping that all of you out there are doing better.
Good afternoon all,
It reached 40°F around noon, dark, and rainy. No solar charge, rationing and nursing the LP. Its 57° inside and too cold for me. Worked on mending today. Currently bundled up under blankets.
BBBBbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Good morning..
Starting off at 31°,looks like we are in for a cloudy day.
Will put one of the trugs to bed for the winter, first compost raked in and then a cover over it before the s-n-o-w comes. Bit by bit every one will get done.
Patricia, thank you. A quiet one here, no turkey on the menu but a roast of beef and all the fixings plus pumpkin pie and whipping cream. I saw 6 Trumperter Swans heading noth yesterday...heading your way???
Radioman (Don) Happy Thanksgiving to you.. :pumpkinpie:
OLM. light that cookstove. I had ours on yesterday but then it got a wee bit too hot. :2funny:
I beat the crows this morning but soon they will be wanting their breakfast too!
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Something to start your day. I was watching this last night on my TV, so it took me a minute to realize this is the Aesop's The Tortoise and the Hare.
There are more clips of this, including one showing the children practicing the routine.
Wet and windy around here today. There's a Nor'Easter passing by. Areas closer to the Ocean are getting swamped. But not bad here at the top of the hill.
Good morning everyone,
It was 50°F inside on rising and I didn't feel as cold as I did yesterday at 75°F. Apparently I had hypothermia from some exposure. I can't say what it was. Thanks for the sympathy Rick.🙂 We have a little sun this morning, so intermittant passive solar heat. Looking forward to being warmer.
Amy, Oh how I wish I could light it up! Its not installed: no hearth, no flu, no chimney. I only moved in (prematurely) because of the timber companies spray: RVs being permeable by VOCs and the spray being too close. When Ron comes next weekend he's supposed to frame the hearth. I will get to tile it when its framed and the cement board is sealed. I've had the tile since June. I moved it in here when I moved myself from the RV, so it wouldn't get contaminated. It had been waiting on a pallet outside. I can't have cardboard inside. All cardboard is made with insecticide or certain bugs would eat it: earwigs, sowbugs, roaches, etc. Thirteen boxes of 15 tiles ea. I can only carry 5 at a time. And then I moved them all to the loft. I felt like I about killed myself.🤪
Your Thanksgiving dinner and the parsnip sounded so tasty!
Its currently 37°F out and supposed to be less rainy. Expected high of 50°.
I hope everyone has a lovely day!
Good noon tide to all, everything needed or overdue was finished yesterday, other than staking and velcroing my dracaena. I brought my plastic tub of pesticide mixed soil from the balcony and alternated it with the soil from the older 11" pots. Today I'll stake the dracaena and take out trash and litter.
I spent the morning in meet and greets as everyone was feeling down from a case of sniffles and wanted to make sure everyone knew they had it worse. I'm rather worried as my case is dried out nasal passages and I don't need to get any colds.
Morning routines are a breeze since I added close out evening tasks. I didn't refill the humidifier as I was tired and that wasn't good. I woke up with a low level headache and a dry cough.
Every winter I run the humidifier day and night on filtered water, to prevent those symptoms and the itchy red skin from dryness. My sister, who has traveled the world from here to Europe, to South America to China, and across the US, says nothing beats an arctic dryness. It can really age you besides the medical aspects.
I guess I got my woe is me in there anyhow. Sorry.
The entire western coastal area of Alaska is having high tides, storm surges, houses washed away and over twenty people missing at last count. This is from the dregs of Typhoon Halong, crossed over from Asia. Fifteen were killed in Taiwan and more in Hong Kong. Climate change is doing a number on this poor world, while people say it's a hoax?!?
Amy, our Trumpeter swans left a while ago heading south. I don't know where yours are going.
I forgot that Don is in Canada as well, eastern or mid? Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful, I love a good beef roast with flaky rolls and roasted carrots, which gives me an idea for my Thanksgiving. I have no idea when, where or how, or even if it will be celebrated this year with only the five of us remaining.
OLM, I never leave cardboard in the house because of foreign bugs inside. I will carry it to the tub and open it there, leaving it for 24 hours so no crawlers or nasties can escape. The same with donations and books opened because bedbugs love the sticky glue in book bindings.
Patricia,
And silverfish! The bane of all bibliophiles!
I am surprised that Trumpeter Swans don't get down this far, they don't appear to migrate very far. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Trumpeter_Swan/maps-range Amy, it looks like they don't go much further than the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway East Coastwise. They seem to go only as far as they have to to find unfrozen water.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This will be a shortie because Cooper will be arriving soon! And he'll need feeding and his morning walk! All's well in Central PA! It's colder and I think Autumn is upon us! I'm not ready for winter yet. I think Spring and Autumn are now my favorite seasons!
I wish you all a happy, do-your-own-thing day! I'm having lunch with a handsome younger man. My SIL is taking me to lunch. My daughter is still in Texas visiting her grandson. Craig and I are enjoying our company together. I watched him grow up! I knew his parents when we were younger.
Do whatever suits your fancy and be sure to tell us what that is. We're the curious type....or do I mean the "nosy" type?
Good morning everyone. 37 now with rain. The promised snow has yet to make an entrance, I expect any new, will remain in the mountains. MG, thanks for the info on swans. In the bird sanctuary here, we have three types although, I only recognize two, a tundra and a trumpeter swan.
We have the original Creamer's Field Wildlife Sanctuary and the adjoining Fountainhead Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary. With close to 3000 acres of trails, hills, wetlands, and scrubs, along with thousands of migratory birds, and fox, moose, bear, lynx, beavers, tundra hares and others, you also find the migrating painters with portable easels and the obligatory binocular clad tourist.
There are two large fenced off public viewing fields, a number of trails marked off, plus some taller overlooks. However, most of the inner sanctuaries are closed to humans for their safety and the animals. Back before I was disabled, I used to haunt the place in my off hours, Minolta in hand. I must have thousands of photos about the sanctuaries and of course the Ice museum in the winter.
Jane, enjoy your time with Cooper and everyone check out more of the interesting photos of Bubble's daughter and family's NYC trip.
Good morning..
We were off and running yesterday ,leaving here before 7 to make a 9 am appointment in the city. A bit of shopping then home.
Today is catch up day on things that didn't get done. Need to make some soup for lunch and hardest part is figuring out what we would like ,maybe beef barley.
MG , I wouldn't have lnown they were flying outer than the swans honking. Love seeing them.
Jane, so good to see you!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Morning, all! Cloudy this morning with a high of 44. Now they're saying mixed snow and rain on Saturday. Otherwise, we're having basic rain, I think the sun emigrated South and even the snow doesn't want to fight with the incessant rain dripping.
Good morning...
Tad chilly out there with a temp of 25°. Yesterday 4 of the trugs were sovered and will pick up 4 more tarps to cover the rest. Trying something different this year so we shall see how that works come Spring.
More outside work to deal with then inside to freeze some meat.
IF and you notice that is a big IF energy permits bread may be made.
Patricia, I have heard of dry wells and restriciton on water in some places. We need rain here!!
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, thirty-seven with rain this morning, but the rain overnight is said to bring some snow but no real accumulation.
They are saying this weather is strange and unusual for the Interior. I say it's simply dreadful, everything is wet, cold and gray.
I wish I could send it onward, but I'm thinking our weather goes through the Yukon territory.
I'm glad I have my PSP lessons and a full Kindle to occupy my days. And, I don't think I'm the only one, as no one is walking or driving about.
Probably, only the poor kids walking to school and or the worker bees.
Michael wants to preserve only the active S&F postings
Your thoughts? Proposed board reorganization
Quote from: Oldiesmann on October 15, 2025, 10:08:02 PMI noticed that some boards aren't used much these days and am thinking of rearranging/reorganizing things to clean up the clutter some. Let me know what you think.
"Talk About Photography" and "Computer Art" - no posts in either board since this forum was restarted in 2018. Delete these since nobody is using them anyway
Rearrange other boards based on popularity - currently they're in alphabetical order in each category but some are more popular than others. "Computer Store" hasn't seen any new posts since 2021 but "Village Clubhouse" sees new posts almost daily.

Good morning everyone,
The outside temp was 26°F according to my thermometer, though it could have picked up a degree or two from the tree its hung up on. My thermal monocular tells me the trees are warm. Inside on rising it was 46°F. Triple ugh! With a humidity of 82%. Even after 45 minutes of running a heater I couldn't get the temp above 48°. When I spoke to Ron he devised a way to jury-rig the installation of the wood cookstove this weekend (that is safe and will not mess up the final instal). YAY!!! Looking forward to heat and cooking thats not dependent on electricity. Currently the sky is clear and its sunny with a short high temp forecasted in the upper 50°s. Not much going on, ordering stuff we need like food and blding supplies.
Hope everyone is well and doing great.
Addendum: sounds reasonable to me Michael🙂
Good morning..
Starting temp of 28° so far no rain but Sun may bring some.
I think most of my crows have left, leaving only stragglers going through. :(
Need to do a few things and other will just have to wait..
Patricia, we may get 3 inches of rain on Sun...lets hope!
OLM.we have ceramic tile behind and on the floor under the cookstove..Should we change flooring we have a sheet of tin to put under it. We just have the Heartland Sweetheart..and when going will put you out of the house.
Jane, hope all is well there...
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning. Morning routines, meet and greets are over and coffee's brewing. We have 34 and wet snow mixed with rain from overnight, on roofs and some dusting on grass; however, with more perhaps later this afternoon.
"A pair of light disturbances will impact the Interior, bringing light snowfall throughout the evening tonight through the weekend.
Accumulations of 1-3 inches of snow are expected through this weekend with higher amounts in higher elevations and areas near Healy.
Due to the colder temperatures setting in, this could bring our first permanent snowpack for some areas. Snowfall is expected to accumulate on roadways, making travel conditions difficult at times.

And of course I have to go out for a couple of errands.
Amy, hopefully some of that rain we had will make its way to you.
Good morning..
Went to sleep with the sound of rain falling and woke to a temp of 48°.
We have nothing planned for the day so will just coast.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Bad allergy day here today. Still haven't had a frost. Half and half cloudy - sun, and starting to get cool in the mornings.
Good morning, 33F presently with some rain and dense fog. We didn't get any of the 1-3 inches of snow promised yesterday or overnight, but it may still happen. I'm leaving soon for breakfast out, and that's it for today.
Another day on the way out. So much for coasting but now these jobs won't have to be done until next Spring need to bring in the batteries from a few tools and turn off water to hoses.
Patricia did you enjoy breakfast out with yourfriends? We had breakfast fir supper tonight.
Quote from: Amy on October 18, 2025, 06:36:29 PMand turn off water to hoses.
A couple of years ago I changed my outdoor faucets to Freeze Proof faucets. They're good if the source is from a warm place, and not in a cold (unheated) Garage.
Where's all that heat we complained about during the Summer

Rick, the faucet at the side of the house is Freeze Proof  but not the one for the shop/garage so water to that is turned off and lines drained. We have have a couple of hard freezes here, lots of goldenrod about so not sure if allergy sufferers are feeling any relief yet.
Good morning.
Warmer this morning with a temp of 56°.Calling for rain here but I think the weatherman had better shout for an all day good pour.
A day of rest here..think a chicken dinner in oven with dressing and pumpkin pie for dessert.
I did notice yesterday that while on the verandah the furniture gained weight! Well it did seem heavier than when I put it out in the Spring. :2funny:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 30 degrees and cloudy now, I did notice there was none of the 1–3 inches promised again, but there was a light snow dusting on the roofs of some buildings and roofs of some parked cars. Evidently, the snow is staying above the 1200-foot level in the mountains.
I did enjoy breakfast out, Amy. We all had the usual eggs, bacon, toast except for Ruthie, who went for a humongous sweet roll with three separate layers and fillings. We didn't know how she managed it, but she did, to every last bite. I think because we all said she couldn't do it. ::)
I often will have eggs and moose sausage for dinner, quick and easy.
You can have any of our continuous rain, as soon as I figure out how to push it in your direction! :(
Just talked with Jane. she is having computer problems . She said to say hellooo and she misses you.
Good morning..
Went to sleep listening to rain and woke to rain ,a gentle rain that I hope keeps up all day. Hih winds last evening gave the power a hiccup, just long enough to make the clocks go out.
Plans for today, just not sure all will be carried out. Maybe some will get done but I do know others won't. See, positive thinking.. :2funny: Pulled all the batteries from garden equipement and put them in the basement till next Spring.
Patricia, thank you for sending the rain this way, seems it will keep up all week unless the weather man changes his mind. Can almost hear the sigh of relief from the ground.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Hello Everufriend! I hope this one will come through to you. I'm not going to make it long just in case!
Cooper is here and we had our morning walk between rain storms. I'm not pleased with the weather here. And I'm not looking forward to winter! I think I said it before...my favorite times of the year and now Spring and Autumn! Too bad we can't just ask for the weather we want!
I read everything and you sure are a busy bunch! I hope those of you in Canada had a nice holiday! Ours will be coming up next month!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And come back and share it with us. We're interested in what everyone is doing!
Quote from: JaneS on October 20, 2025, 10:27:17 AMToo bad we can't just ask for the weather we want!
You can. Just ask. --- You may not get it, but no harm in asking
Jane , GREAT to see you here!! This would not be a good day to walk Cooper as we have rain, rain and more rain...a beautiful day here
My sis's dil makes a dressing/stuffing that is so good. Since we didn't have turkey for TG I am making some dressing then freeze some. Her recipe has a lb of bacon, celery, pepper ,celery and spices. I usually throw in dried cranberries but this time chopped up a couple of apples. Will see how it tastes.
For those looking for just the right sympathy card;
And here's one I need on standby....
Patricia, on the bright side, you do have your coffee in hand.
 Never go anywhere without it!
Good morning..
A chilly start to the day with a tmp of 31° reaching into the 50's later in the day.
Leaves are not as pretty due to the lack of rain this year ,some Maples do have some colour but not the vibrant reds.
Nothing planned for the day but lots to do. Will put Phyllis's baked ccustard in the IP for later to have with fresh raspberries.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
The sun is shining this morning, but we are expecting rain this evening. The rain lately has been more like drizzle that anything substantial.
I don't think we will have much color from the tree leaves this year. We have yet to have a hard freeze and the tree leaves have been browning off although we haven't had many drop yet. It looks like the rest of October we will have a few days in the high thirty's and low to mid-forties at night.
Jane, are the trees up your way coloring up?
I've got some housework to do today, and I want to check out the current Medicare offerings. My grocery order is in, and I expect that to arrive early this afternoon. Otherwise, I am free to do some reading/listening and check out the latest nonsense on the tube.
Have you all been keeping an eye on the comet AI/Atlas news? The latest is that they have found a chemical compound that, so far, has not been found in the natural environment but only as a man-made combo. That, plus the unusual tail before the comet (not behind) must have the UFO (or whatever) proponents all in a tither.

About the same here, just north of NYC. Still little color change to leaves.
Good morning, 29, still in a dense fog since yesterday. They promised snow over the weekend, but when that didn't happen, they pushed it back. Today, it's been pushed back until Thursday. I don't imagine that's good for the environment colder and colder temps but no snow for insulation.
No packages today, but library tomorrow, and I'm still working on what's needed paperwise for medical and for 2026.
Household routines, meet and greets, feeding everyone and coffee in hand so let the morning commence.
Goodness, not going to have an unplanned day again! Took me most of the day to empty the water tote and get the 🐠 out! Now they are ready to go to their new home. They quadrupled their size over summer.
Phyllis, I had a wee bit of whipped cream left over so used that plus milk to make up the measure and oh my it really made the custard so smooth.
Something I ran across today. I don't know how accurate it is, but I still think worth considering. -------
"November 3rd: Daylight Saving Time ends.
You get an extra hour of sleep. I get killed on the highway.
Here's why:
When clocks "fall back," your evening commute happens at dusk—exactly when deer are most active.
The Facts:
Deer-vehicle collisions SPIKE 300% the week after DST ends
October-November = deer mating season (bucks are distracted, reckless)
1.5 million deer-vehicle collisions per year in the US
200 human deaths, 26,000 injuries annually
$10 billion in vehicle damage."
Hello Everyfriend! I found my way in here again! I read all the entries and loved them all. It's so nice to hear how things are where everyone is.
PATRICIA and AMY, the weather where you are just doesn't seem normal for this time of year! We've had some cold days lately and that's more or less normal for us but not for you two.
I have to be up tomorrow and ready to meet Cooper a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow so I'll be hitting the hay early so I can be up and attem by 5 and get my breakfast before he gets here. There's a bit of a possibility that he won't show because when Frankie picked him up today she wasn't feeling so good. I'm hoping it goes away over night but if it doesn't, she might be staying home from work tomorrow and then I won't have Cooper.
Today was a good day. I got a lot done around here including 5 loads of laundry and a bit of cooking and two walks with Cooper. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that! We're interested in everything you all do! Good Night!d..
Deer are all over the place now. While I can say that the little deer family that I saw when I first moved in here have disappeared and I occasionally wonder if the deer dead deer I saw about a mile away along the road was one of "mine". I haven't seen a deer and only two sightings of groundhog out in the patch behind the apt. building. Come to think of it, I only noticed cats along the edge of the woods twice this summer. Sue, on the other hand, has a deer problem in her neighborhood. She had hosta planted out back that the deer have been helping themselves to, and there is a stretch of road she avoids like the plague certain times a day if she is out. When I took Oscar to the vet a month and a half ago, in the middle of the day, I came across about four deer grazing on a businesses' lawn close to the road at a point where there was a bank at bend in the road making it impossible to see far ahead. They were just casually grazing along the road and even leisurely crossed the road in front of me, obviously not afraid of the traffic.
Last night I saw a video of a huge fire at a mulch plant in Southern York County that erupted several days ago. I couldn't believe how tall the unbagged mulch piles were. News reports that 94 Fire company units responded, including at least two from Maryland. It got to the point where it looks like they had to set up temporary water containment pools and bring water in from elsewhere to transfer to the fighters because the hydrants in the area couldn't keep up with the demand. It was an amazing sight. I wonder what started the fire. My guess is that the mulch was piled on entirely to high to properly monitor for dangerous internal heat, like improperly maintained and monitored compost piles and hay bales.
Good morning.
It is a great morning here with a gentle rain. Glad the outside work was done yesterday. Some baking today along with vacuum sealing cooked food for the freezer.
Jane, hope Frankie is feeling better.
Rick , it is the same here, time ,hunters and their dogs and in the Spring the blackflies and mosquitos will put them out of the woods.
MG,hay, grains and maunure will heat if one isn't careful.Hope they got the fire out.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, it took them 94 fire companies and 18 hours to put the thing out.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm on my way to the shower to get ready for another dr appointment! And we're stopping at the store on the way home to pick up some things I need! I wish you all a great day!!!
Good morning..
Starting off at 39° and we are to have a rainy day. Off to get groceries this morning then see when I can deliver the goldfish.
Jane, hope your trip to the Dr went well.
MG,I would imagine it would smolder for some time. Hope no one got hurt.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good mourning everyone,
I did not get my woodstove jury-rigged. I'm still struggling along with indoor temps in the 50°s until late afternoon. Its the parts. We can not get stainless steel flue parts locally. And one will need to be fabricated. Ron met with a couple of sheetmetal fabricators, they would not touch a stainless steel project. So Ron says he intends to fab it himself. Which means no wood heat for me this season. I encouraged him to build the hearth for me to tile anyway, so we can install the stove next season, while its still cold when I come. I've been keeping busy with figuring out how to hold every degree of heat possible and trying to keep warm. That and darning socks and gloves. Its been lows of 29°F, highs in the 50°s, high winds and alternates between rain and partly sunny. Occasionally we get a day or 2 of sun. Expecting snow this weekend. The outside air is getting better. I don't smell pesticide through my VOC filter mask anymore when I take out the dogs. I tried going without, but got reactions, so waiting another week before testing again.
Loved reading your entries, have a great day.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This doesn't seem to be set up the way it usually is even though I did it like I always do. There's something jumping in here and making things change in a way I don't ask it to change. I hope it does what I ask it to do.
I read everything and I hope this posts. I had a good dr. appt. yesterday and today I have to see the foot Dr. and return something I got at WM that I don't need. Since the foot dr. is right aroung the corner from the Amish grocery store, I was kind of hoping we could run in there. They have some things that nobody else around here carries and I need some of them. Well, "need" probably isn't the right word. I should have said "want"!
I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to share it with us. We're interested! Or do I mean "nosy"!
Quote from: OnLonelyMountain on October 23, 2025, 10:04:50 AMWhich means no wood heat for me this season.
Would a Flu made of a cheaper metal, used temporarily, be in order? Use for this season then replace next summer.
we were exploring all kinds of possibilities like that. The issue is it can't be painted or galvanized (both outgass toxins). We both ran extensive searches. What we could find would not be shipped and arrived until after I'd left. I found one fabricator near the Great Lakes that would build one, but at an exorbitant cost, and delivery would be next spring. 🫤 Frustrating. I reminded Ron when he came today today to try his "mock up" that the transition does not have to be stainless, just unpainted. Perhaps the local fabricators would do it if it was just unpainted, rather than stainless steel. The traition will not show. The chimney pipe we can order. It will still get here after I leave. So I'm still out of luck in regards to the whole project. :P
OLM - I sit here thinking --- about your heat problem, and more than likely came up with the same or similar thoughts as you guys did --- None workable. I have no idea how much current an electric blanket pulls, but if it's low (which I think it is) it might be good for a warmer night, or a place to hide when the bones start aching.
Good morning..
Another rainy day ahead with a starting temp of 37° racing to 46° this afternoon.
Hope to take the ashes away and garbage and recycle. Delivered the goldfish to their new home yesterday. They will have quite an adjustment from the cold to a warm home.
OLM, have you tried a plumbing and heating business or even a muffler shop they may be able to fabricate you one?
Patricia, how are you and Farrah doing?
Jane, I think our Mennonite market has closed up for the year.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good morning!
Rick, Thats a good idea, though bed is the one place I'm warm. That one I have managed even down to 20°F inside the RV. I made myself an organic mattress with 8" of wool stuffing under me. I have plenty of blankets and coverings. I wear woolens to bed, including socks and a hat.
I wear woolens in the daytime, too. I cannot, however, get enough wool socks in my shoes to keep them from chilblains. It usually takes an hour or two to dissipate the chill from my toes after going to bed. I go to bed early, just to get warm.
Amy, those are good ideas. I'm pretty sure Ron explored those, excepting the muffler guys as they would be too toxic for me to use anything they made. Whoever makes it must be non-toxic.
I've come up with one more thing might help preserve the heat: blanketing the door. Its insulated metal. I noticed the whole surface of the door gets very cold, even though its insulated. I asked Ron to bring a dowel and rod hangers. I have some polar fleece that might be long enough. If not, I'll think of something.
I have been experimenting with getting outside without a VOC mask the last couple of days and am hoping to get out for a bit today and put some things away for winter, like swings, hoses and benches. I'm looking forward to it. Kato doesn't know it yet, but I'm turning him out for awhile too.
Have a very lovely day everyone!
Good Morning Everyfriend! Once again, I don't know if this will work. This day is on the way! Cooper is here and I have to keep an eye on him because he was to the Vet yesterday and had a shot. So far, the day is proceeding normally. We shall see!
I have some cooking to do today. I'm making "pie-chee-ams" for my lunch today and three more days. Maybe to share with Christy when she comes next week!
Also, I have some cleaning up to do before she gets here! And I'm going to lunch after church this Sunday with an old Friend. We're going to renew some old memories. She used to work at WM with me!
I better get up and get started. I wish you all a great day! Stop by and tell us what you did! We're very interested (nosy?).
Good morning..
Tad chilly here ,temp is now up to 32° and sunny. Soon the laundry will be out on the line.
We have been to town and back and oh my it was foggy! Picked up what was needed and now to work. Would like to bring the snowblower over and into the garage and have that job done..
Ok Jane, you know I am going to ask what are pie-chee-ams please? Hope Cooper is ok.
Better get at it..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I'll ask, too. What are they?
Chilly here today. In the 40s when I got up. But, it is a beautiful sunny day so should warm up nicely. Could use some rain. Very dry and we are in drought classification with fire warnings.
Good morning, 28 and cloudy, we did get our three inches over the past week.
I think Jane's pie-chee-ams are a sandwich popular when I was a kid, pineapple, cheese and ham on a toasted bun?
Good morning..
Another chilly day with a starting temp of 20°. A day of rest here. Will throw something??? in the IP for soup and worry about the rest later.
Patricia, snow is in the west and yes I know it is heading this way but hopefully after the two Dr visits. I now remember Jane talking about that bun before..now is that a pineapple ring? I think I would be inclined to use drained crush pineapple.
Phyllis, we did get some rain here but like you could use more. Talked with a lady yesterday an she mentioned wells going dry.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone,
Sad to hear about drought conditions and people's wells going dry. So very stressful.
It's intermittently poured the last couple of days. Yesterday it rained so hard Ron (who was trying to work out there) couldn't see and had to take breaks. The hail and lightening stopped him also. He brought up refilled LP tanks and a new, more efficient heater. He also brought the dowel and curtain rd brackets. The door blanket is helping! Ron's elk season begins this week. He wants to be sure I have enough supplies he doesn't have to stop hunting to come here.
This morning was 33°F. Its supposed to be sunny today, high near 60°F. Possible snow/rain mix this evening or tonight. Tomorrow's low is forecasted for 28°F. Then it will return to lows in the 30°s and 40°s. I'm working on hand spinning so I can knit a new sweater, socks and gloves. Be awhile before I get enough for a sweater. The last time I knit this sweater I think it took me 13 large balls.
Where's the "Pie?" :-X
It's snowing out and 21 presently. I hope everyone is having a good, warm and cozy day.
Amy, my memories date back to the fifties, and I think canned pineapple rings were a thing back then. I don't know if they had crushed pineapple. I think the bun was toasted in the oven.
Hello Everyfriend! First I'll tell you what picheeams are. They are a carry-over from Girl Scout Camp. We made them over the campfire back then. Now I do them in a frying pan. You need one can of Spam, 4 slices of pineapple and some cheese. You slice the Spam across the top so you have 4 large slices and you brown them in a frying pan. (I'm thinking you could brown them in an air fryer, too) Then you put a slice of pineapple and some cheese on top and put a lid on it on very low heat until the cheese melts and then eat it on a hamburger roll. Easy and tasty! They take about 20 minutes to finish!
Now I have to tell you where I was yesterday! I took a walk after Frankie picked up Cooper and when I got back, I added some steps by walking past the porch down to my shed. When I came back, I tripped over the bottom step and went down and clunked my head! When I was getting up, I realized I had a lump that was bleeding. I covered it and headed for the bathroom and stuck my head under the faucet. Then I realized that the lump was ENORMOUS! I called my daughter Cathy and told her I needed help and maybe a trip to the ER at the hospital. She and her hubby both showed up and they agreed that I needed to go to emergency.
The end of the story is that I had the lump treated, it still hurts a bit, and i need to ice it 4 times a day! I'm amazed that nothing els was damaged!!!
And that's why I wasn't around last night! I'm OK but I'm sure going to be careful about those steps Cathy and Christy and Philip are discussing what thay might do about the steps so this doesn't happen again. I'm just grateful that it wasn't worse!
I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow! Make it your own day and be sure to tell us how you did that!
Jane, going to wrap you up in bubble wrap! Maybe someone should spend the night with you.
Would a ramp instead of stairs help? We have a ramp front and back , no stairs for Kyle .
Thank you for explaining about the piecheeams , sounds like something we are going to try.
Have a good night.
I found this online for the ham, pineapple, and cheese sandwich,
"Invented in the 1950s by German TV cook Clemens Wilmenrod, Toast Hawaii quickly became a symbol of post-war innovation in Germany. Combining ham, pineapple, and melted cheese, this open-faced sandwich was broiled to achieve a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors
Good morning..
A little warmer this morning ,starting off at 23°. Picking up a few things in town then home to bake.
Jane, hope you had a good nights rest.
Patricia, thank you for the explanation of the sandwich. I do want to try this..
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Quote from: Amy on October 27, 2025, 07:18:44 AMA little warmer this morning ,starting off at 23°.
You're a bit higher, but we're a bit lower. Finally made it below 40° to 38°. Still waiting for that first frost. There's a nice bright sun out there this morning but the birds are all hiding.
Amy, pineapple rings were a big part of socializing in the fifties, at least as I knew it. That and jello, which showed up at every tea or luncheon.
It's 18 degrees, icy, with a dense fog out there. Marilyne, in Norm's, posted the perfect poem for today;
Gray Fog
A fog drifts in, the heavy laden
Cold white ghost of the sea --
One by one the hills go out,
The road and the pepper-tree.
I watch the fog float in at the window
With the whole world gone blind,
Everything, even my longing, drowses,
Even the thoughts in my mind.
I put my head on my hands before me,
There is nothing left to be done or said,
There is nothing to hope for, I am tired,
And heavy as the dead.

Good morning...
Another chilly morning with a temp of 20°. Rain on Thur and hope it isn't going to turn into snow.
Baking done now to split some kindling if the day goes well.
Jane, we had your Pie-chee-ums for lunch...you forgot to say how addicting they are!! Hope you are feeling better and no headache.
Patricia, how are you doing?
Running late so better put an egg in my boot and beat it..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 12, mostly sunny.
Amy, I'm doing okay, all the blues have gone yellow.
Good afternoon all,
28°F outside, 44°F inside when I got up. Wearing my outerwear inside, including the snow packs. Its supposed to get up to 48°F outside. So far we're at 34°. Yesterday it snowed most of the day, then the temp climbed to 50°, with rain. Nothing stuck. Later this afternoon I need to go out and finish completely draining the RV.
Wow Jane! Glad it wasn't worse!!😱
Good morning anyone. Getting a bit chilly here in the mornings, so I guess Fall is here. The falling leaves attest to that.
Good morning Rick, and everyone else!
I 'm happy to report that this morning is much warmer. Inside temp was 53°F. I have it up to 60°F on the first generator run. Of course tomorrow morning is forecasted to be 28°, but for today I will enjoy the warmth!
The tamaracks are yellow, the rose hips are red, the sky is grey and dripping. Its fall.💨 🍂
The tulip poplars and hickory trees are yellow, the oaks are turning slowly to a russet brown, the crepe myrtles are bare. And, we have finally gotten some rain!.
I don't know how you tolerate those temperatures, OLM! Hope you will be able to go back to the farm soon.
Is the head doing better today, Jane?
Amy, have you ever canned fiddle head ferns? They are a favorite of mine.
Good morning Phillys!
Me neither! 😬 Its only because I have to. I tell myself, "If eskimos and Laplanders can do it..." There is no place in this world thats safe for people like me: Living hard is better than dead. So long ago I made a plan: what I would need to live the safest I'm able. Every year that I survive, we get closer to achieving it. Other people's choices defer or derail my plans, but despite the set backs I must move forward. I must count my blessings. I had a number of toxically injured friends who I watched conscript their family member's lives. The family members were enslaved by their care. I don't want that for my family members (their whole lives revolving around my illness!), so I ask, not demand. I accept what they give. I encourage them in "self-care" and living their own lives to the fullest. That means, yeh, I endure cold, loneliness, and other hardships. Its better than being tortured and maimed to death. I've been on the rim, circling the drain, many times. Being warm and comfortable isn't "wonderful" if anything in that environment is killing you. Its the choice I have to weigh.
Today, the outside temp is currently 42°F. Inside its 58°F and the heat is off. For now I'm warm.😊 I'll start the gen/heater in 17 minutes or so.
Good morning, nine cloudy degrees presently, warming up to thirty and then forty with rain on Friday. On temperatures, thirty or forty degrees can mean one thing in a dry climate and another in a wet climate.
I've read Phyllis and Rick's comments about Fall beginning and know that winter has already arrived in the Arctic. It reminds me about how far apart we actually are. Our actual full snowfall happened on the 20th and will remain until April. Although we have more rain than snow with climate change.
Nothing really going on here, two medical appointments and a lot of restructuring, hopefully short term.
Other than that, I hope everyone has a day, just as they like it, echoing what Lloyd used to say.
Good afternoon
The morning went poof on me!
Always something needed doing that I hadn't planned on.
We started out at 20 with a heavy frost that we would share with Rick!
Still need to prepare an area for Mr. SB.
Phyllis no I haven't, I also enjoy them along with wild leeks. Wild leeks are good pickled and dried too.
Jane, how are you?
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning..
Starting off at 28° this morning with rain on the way and the weather man did say another 4 letter word....snow possible!!
Off to the Dr later on, but have time to do some work around here first.
Patricia, are you still colourful?
Better get the day on the go..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I thought it was still night when I got up this morning. Lots of rain and likely the remains of the storm that hit Jamaica.Very cloudy.
Rick, I still don't have a clear picture of where Melissa is going, but it looks like it will stay off the coast at least until it gets up to past PA. The rain we have now is from a system coming from the west, southwest that is keeping Melissa from moving inland earlier.
It was 48o when I got up this morning, 52o now, rain is coming down at a good clip, but not pouring, wind fairly calm. Looks like it will be stopping in about an hours, with some more showers coming in later.
Plans for today include handwashing some dishes, putting laundry away, attempting to finish up a library book I am listening to before the next one becomes available. Got plenty of things to go through to see if I can get rid of more clutter.
Good morning, a cloudy 25 presently with showers expected on Friday. Morning routines and daily tasks done when and as I can. Amy, I'm more colorful than ever as everything heals.
I've kept busy arranging this and that with some group or another group, and seeing what is and isn't available. Everything is hurry up and wait.
Good morning
Another much needed rainy day here,we will take that! Not sure what today will bring but something will. Temp started at 39° and apparently going down from there!.
I noticed yesterday, that now the leaves are coming off ,the trees you see more of the past wind damage.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Talked with Jane, she has a humdinger of a cold but hopefully on the mend. She says hello to you!
Oh my gosh! Hubby motioned to come look out the kitchen window. Huge fluffy flakes of snow gracing the ground! Way too early for me.
Good morning, 35 & cloudy presently, with snow and rain this afternoon turning to snow this evening.
Not much going on other than the usual routine. I will be interviewing some house cleaners and caretakers today and possibly looking into online groceries, but that's it other than paying those pesky bills.
