Good morning..

Another  chilly start to the day at 36°.  A day of rest here..maybe. Just have dog food to package and freeze.

The one pound parsnip was cooked yesterday and I fully expected it to be woody but it wasn't. Nice surprise. Traffic was like a stream of ants last evening ,will be the same on Mon with everyone heading home. Ususally folks close up their cottage by Thanksgiving here.

Better go feed the fish.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, presently 37, looking at a high of 48 with a low of 34. Tomorrow will be back to rain. At this point, snow would be nice, would insulate the ground and perhaps warm some.

Morning routines, meet and greets ongoing and still coffee to make, and the last four plants still awaiting repotting. All the group have sniffles and sneezes, and no one's in a good mood.

Amy, I hope your Thanksgiving tomorrow will be warm, cozy and heartfelt. I know it will be full of food and tradition.

Here's hoping that all of you out there are doing better.

OnLonelyMountain

Good afternoon all,
It reached 40°F around noon, dark, and rainy. No solar charge, rationing and nursing the LP. Its 57° inside and too cold for me. Worked on mending today. Currently bundled up under blankets.

Good morning..

Starting off at 31°,looks like we are in for a cloudy day.

Will put one of the trugs to bed for the winter, first compost raked in and then a cover over it  before the s-n-o-w comes. Bit by bit every one will get done.

Patricia, thank you. A quiet one here, no turkey on the menu but a roast of beef and all the fixings plus pumpkin pie and whipping cream. I saw 6 Trumperter Swans heading noth yesterday...heading your way???

Radioman  (Don) Happy Thanksgiving to you.. :pumpkinpie:

OLM. light that cookstove. I had ours on yesterday but then it got a wee bit too hot.  :2funny:

I beat the crows this morning but soon they will be wanting their breakfast too!

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Something to start your day. I was watching this last night on my TV, so it took me a minute to realize this is the Aesop's The Tortoise and the Hare.

There are more clips of this, including one showing the children practicing the routine.

RAMMEL

Wet and windy around here today. There's a Nor'Easter passing by. Areas closer to the Ocean are getting swamped. But not bad here at the top of the hill.

Good morning everyone,
It was 50°F inside on rising and I didn't feel as cold as I did yesterday at 75°F. Apparently I had hypothermia from some exposure. I can't say what it was. Thanks for the sympathy Rick.🙂 We have a little sun this morning, so intermittant passive solar heat. Looking forward to being warmer.

Amy, Oh how I wish I could light it up! Its not installed: no hearth, no flu, no chimney. I only moved in (prematurely) because of the timber companies spray: RVs being permeable by VOCs and the spray being too close. When Ron comes next weekend he's supposed to frame the hearth. I will get to tile it when its framed and the cement board is sealed. I've had the tile since June. I moved it in here when I moved myself from the RV, so it wouldn't get contaminated. It had been waiting on a pallet outside. I can't have cardboard inside. All cardboard is made with insecticide or certain bugs would eat it: earwigs, sowbugs, roaches, etc. Thirteen boxes of 15 tiles ea. I can only carry 5 at a time. And then I moved them all to the loft. I felt like I about killed myself.🤪

Your Thanksgiving dinner and the parsnip sounded so tasty!

Its currently 37°F out and supposed to be less rainy. Expected high of 50°.

I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Good noon tide to all, everything needed or overdue was finished yesterday, other than staking and velcroing my dracaena. I brought my plastic tub of pesticide mixed soil from the balcony and alternated it with the soil from the older 11" pots. Today I'll stake the dracaena and take out trash and litter.

I spent the morning in meet and greets as everyone was feeling down from a case of sniffles and wanted to make sure everyone knew they had it worse. I'm rather worried as my case is dried out nasal passages and I don't need to get any colds.

Morning routines are a breeze since I added close out evening tasks. I didn't refill the humidifier as I was tired and that wasn't good. I woke up with a low level headache and a dry cough.

Every winter I run the humidifier day and night on filtered water, to prevent those symptoms and the itchy red skin from dryness. My sister, who has traveled the world from here to Europe, to South America to China, and across the US, says nothing beats an arctic dryness. It can really age you besides the medical aspects.

I guess I got my woe is me in there anyhow. Sorry.

The entire western coastal area of Alaska is having high tides, storm surges, houses washed away and over twenty people missing at last count. This is from the dregs of Typhoon Halong, crossed over from Asia. Fifteen were killed in Taiwan and more in Hong Kong. Climate change is doing a number on this poor world, while people say it's a hoax?!?

Amy, our Trumpeter swans left a while ago heading south. I don't know where yours are going.

I forgot that Don is in Canada as well, eastern or mid? Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful, I love a good beef roast with flaky rolls and roasted carrots, which gives me an idea for my Thanksgiving. I have no idea when, where or how, or even if it will be celebrated this year with only the five of us remaining.

OLM, I never leave cardboard in the house because of foreign bugs inside. I will carry it to the tub and open it there, leaving it for 24 hours so no crawlers or nasties can escape. The same with donations and books opened because bedbugs love the sticky glue in book bindings.

Patricia,
And silverfish! The bane of all bibliophiles!

I am surprised that Trumpeter Swans don't get down this far, they don't appear to migrate very far. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Trumpeter_Swan/maps-range  Amy, it looks like they don't go much further than the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway East Coastwise. They seem to go only as far as they have to to find unfrozen water.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This will be a shortie because Cooper will be arriving soon!  And he'll need feeding and his morning walk!  All's well in Central PA!  It's colder and I think Autumn is upon us!  I'm not ready for winter yet.  I think Spring and Autumn are now my favorite seasons!

I wish you all a happy, do-your-own-thing day!  I'm having lunch with a handsome younger man.  My SIL is taking me to lunch.  My daughter is still in Texas visiting her grandson.  Craig and I are enjoying our company together.  I watched him grow up!  I knew his parents when we were younger.

Do whatever suits your fancy and be sure to tell us what that is.  We're the curious type....or do I mean the "nosy" type?

Good morning everyone. 37 now with rain. The promised snow has yet to make an entrance, I expect any new, will remain in the mountains. MG, thanks for the info on swans. In the bird sanctuary here, we have three types although, I only recognize two, a tundra and a trumpeter swan.

We have the original Creamer's Field Wildlife Sanctuary and the adjoining Fountainhead Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary.  With close to 3000 acres of trails, hills, wetlands, and scrubs, along with thousands of migratory birds, and fox, moose, bear, lynx, beavers, tundra hares and others, you also find the migrating painters with portable easels and the obligatory binocular clad tourist.

There are two large fenced off public viewing fields, a number of trails marked off, plus some taller overlooks. However, most of the inner sanctuaries are closed to humans for their safety and the animals. Back before I was disabled, I used to haunt the place in my off hours, Minolta in hand. I must have thousands of photos about the sanctuaries and of course the Ice museum in the winter.

Jane, enjoy your time with Cooper and everyone check out more of the interesting photos of Bubble's daughter and family's NYC trip.

Good morning..

We were off and running yesterday ,leaving here  before 7 to make a 9 am appointment in the city. A bit of shopping then home.

Today is catch up day on things that didn't get done. Need to make some soup for lunch and hardest part is figuring out what we would like ,maybe beef barley.

MG , I wouldn't have lnown they were flying outer than the swans honking. Love seeing them.

Jane, so good to see you!!

Morning, all! Cloudy this morning with a high of 44. Now they're saying mixed snow and rain on Saturday. Otherwise, we're having basic rain, I think the sun emigrated South and even the snow doesn't want to fight with the incessant rain dripping.

Amy

Good morning...

Tad chilly out there with a temp of 25°. Yesterday 4 of the trugs were sovered and will pick up 4 more tarps to cover the rest. Trying something different this year so we shall see how that works come Spring.

More outside work to deal with then inside to freeze some meat.
IF and you notice that is a big IF energy permits bread may be made.

Patricia, I have heard of dry wells and restriciton on water in some places. We need rain here!!

Better get the day started.

Amy, thirty-seven with rain this morning, but the rain overnight is said to bring some snow but no real accumulation.

They are saying this weather is strange and unusual for the Interior. I say it's simply dreadful, everything is wet, cold and gray.

I wish I could send it onward, but I'm thinking our weather goes through the Yukon territory.

I'm glad I have my PSP lessons and a full Kindle to occupy my days. And, I don't think I'm the only one, as no one is walking or driving about.

Probably, only the poor kids walking to school and or the worker bees.

Your thoughts? Proposed board reorganization

Quote from: Oldiesmann on October 15, 2025, 10:08:02 PMI noticed that some boards aren't used much these days and am thinking of rearranging/reorganizing things to clean up the clutter some. Let me know what you think.

"Talk About Photography" and "Computer Art" - no posts in either board since this forum was restarted in 2018. Delete these since nobody is using them anyway

Rearrange other boards based on popularity - currently they're in alphabetical order in each category but some are more popular than others. "Computer Store" hasn't seen any new posts since 2021 but "Village Clubhouse" sees new posts almost daily.

Good morning everyone,
The outside temp was 26°F according to my thermometer, though it could have picked up a degree or two from the tree its hung up on. My thermal monocular tells me the trees are warm. Inside on rising it was 46°F. Triple ugh! With a humidity of 82%. Even after 45 minutes of running a heater I couldn't get the temp above 48°. When I spoke to Ron he devised a way to jury-rig the installation of the wood cookstove this weekend (that is safe and will not mess up the final instal). YAY!!! Looking forward to heat and cooking thats not dependent on electricity. Currently the sky is clear and its sunny with a short high temp forecasted in the upper 50°s. Not much going on, ordering stuff we need like food and blding supplies.

Hope everyone is well and doing great.

Addendum: sounds reasonable to me Michael🙂

Amy

Good morning..

Starting temp of 28° so far no rain but Sun may bring some.
I think most of my crows have left, leaving only stragglers going through.  :(

Need to do a few things and other will just have to wait..

Patricia, we may get 3 inches of rain on Sun...lets hope!

OLM.we have ceramic tile behind and on the floor under the cookstove..Should we change flooring we have a sheet of tin to put under it. We just have the Heartland Sweetheart..and when going will put you out of the house.

Jane, hope all is well there...

Good morning. Morning routines, meet and greets are over and coffee's brewing. We have 34 and wet snow mixed with rain from overnight, on roofs and some dusting on grass; however, with more perhaps later this afternoon.

"A pair of light disturbances will impact the Interior, bringing light snowfall throughout the evening tonight through the weekend.

Accumulations of 1-3 inches of snow are expected through this weekend with higher amounts in higher elevations and areas near Healy.

Due to the colder temperatures setting in, this could bring our first permanent snowpack for some areas. Snowfall is expected to accumulate on roadways, making travel conditions difficult at times.

And of course I have to go out for a couple of errands.

Amy, hopefully some of that rain we had will make its way to you.

We have nothing planned for the day so will just coast.

Another day on the way out. So much for coasting but now these jobs won't have to be done until next Spring  need to bring in the batteries from a few tools and turn off water to hoses.

Rick, the faucet at the side of the house is Freeze Proof   but not the one for the shop/garage so water to that is turned off and lines drained. We have have a couple of hard freezes here, lots of goldenrod about so not sure if allergy sufferers are feeling any relief yet.

Good morning.

Warmer this morning with a temp of 56°.Calling for rain here but I think the weatherman had better shout  for an all day good pour.

A day of rest here..think a chicken dinner in oven with dressing and pumpkin pie for dessert.

I did notice yesterday that while on the verandah the furniture gained weight! Well it did seem heavier than when I put it out in the Spring. :2funny:

Good morning, 30 degrees and cloudy now, I did notice there was none of the 1–3 inches promised again, but there was a light snow dusting on the roofs of some buildings and roofs of some parked cars. Evidently, the snow is staying above the 1200-foot level in the mountains.

I did enjoy breakfast out, Amy. We all had the usual eggs, bacon, toast except for Ruthie, who went for a humongous sweet roll with three separate layers and fillings. We didn't know how she managed it, but she did, to every last bite. I think because we all said she couldn't do it.  ::)

I often will have eggs and moose sausage for dinner, quick and easy.

You can have any of our continuous rain, as soon as I figure out how to push it in your direction!  :(
