Good morning..

Went to sleep listening to rain and woke to rain ,a gentle rain that I hope keeps up all day. Hih winds last evening gave the power a hiccup, just long enough to make the clocks go out.

Plans for today, just not sure all will be carried out. Maybe some will get done but I do know others won't. See, positive thinking.. :2funny:  Pulled all the batteries from  garden equipement and put them in the basement till next Spring.

Patricia, thank you for sending the rain this way, seems it will keep up all week unless the weather man changes his mind. Can almost hear the sigh of relief from the ground.

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Hello Everufriend! I hope this one will come through to you.  I'm not going to make it long just in case!

Cooper is here and we had our morning walk between rain storms.  I'm not pleased with the weather here. And I'm not looking forward to winter!  I think I said it before...my favorite times of the year and now Spring and Autumn!  Too bad we can't just ask for the weather we want!

I read everything and you sure are a busy bunch!  I hope those of you in Canada had a nice holiday!  Ours will be coming up next month!

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And come back and share it with us.  We're interested in what everyone is doing!

Jane , GREAT to see you here!!  This would not be a good day to walk Cooper as we have rain, rain and more rain...a beautiful day here

My sis's dil makes a dressing/stuffing that is so good. Since we didn't  have turkey for TG I am making some dressing then freeze some.  Her recipe has a lb of bacon, celery, pepper ,celery and spices. I usually throw in dried cranberries but this time chopped up a couple of apples. Will see how it tastes.

Good morning..

A chilly start to the day with a tmp of 31° reaching into the 50's later in the day.

Leaves are not as pretty due to the lack of rain this year ,some Maples do have some colour but not the vibrant reds.

Nothing planned for the day but lots to do. Will put Phyllis's baked ccustard in the IP for later to have with fresh raspberries.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

The sun is shining this morning, but we are expecting rain this evening. The rain lately has been more like drizzle that anything substantial.

I don't think we will have much color from the tree leaves this year. We have yet to have a hard freeze and the tree leaves have been browning off although we haven't had many drop yet. It looks like the rest of October we will have a few days in the high thirty's and low to mid-forties at night.

Jane, are the trees up your way coloring up?

I've got some housework to do today, and I want to check out the current Medicare offerings. My grocery order is in, and I expect that to arrive early this afternoon. Otherwise, I am free to do some reading/listening and check out the latest nonsense on the tube.

Have you all been keeping an eye on the comet AI/Atlas news? The latest is that they have found a chemical compound that, so far, has not been found in the natural environment but only as a man-made combo. That, plus the unusual tail before the comet (not behind) must have the UFO (or whatever) proponents all in a tither.

About the same here, just north of NYC. Still little color change to leaves.

Good morning, 29, still in a dense fog since yesterday. They promised snow over the weekend, but when that didn't happen, they pushed it back. Today, it's been pushed back until Thursday. I don't imagine that's good for the environment colder and colder temps but no snow for insulation.

No packages today, but library tomorrow, and I'm still working on what's needed paperwise for medical and for 2026.

Household routines, meet and greets, feeding everyone and coffee in hand so let the morning commence.

Goodness, not going to have an unplanned day again! Took me most of the day to empty the water tote and get the 🐠  out!  Now they are ready to go to their new home. They quadrupled their size over summer.

Phyllis, I had a wee bit of whipped cream left over so used that plus milk to make up the measure and oh my it really made the custard so smooth.

Something I ran across today. I don't know how accurate it is, but I still think worth considering. -------
"November 3rd: Daylight Saving Time ends.
You get an extra hour of sleep. I get killed on the highway.
Here's why:
When clocks "fall back," your evening commute happens at dusk—exactly when deer are most active.
The Facts:

Deer-vehicle collisions SPIKE 300% the week after DST ends
October-November = deer mating season (bucks are distracted, reckless)
1.5 million deer-vehicle collisions per year in the US
200 human deaths, 26,000 injuries annually
$10 billion in vehicle damage."

Hello Everyfriend!  I found my way in here again!  I read all the entries and loved them all.  It's so nice to hear how things are where everyone is.

PATRICIA and AMY, the weather where you are just doesn't seem normal for this time of year!  We've had some cold days lately and that's more or less normal for us but not for you two.

I have to be up tomorrow and ready to meet Cooper a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow so I'll be hitting the hay early so I can be up and attem by 5 and get my breakfast before he gets here.  There's a bit of a possibility that he won't show because when Frankie picked him up today she wasn't feeling so good.  I'm hoping it goes away over night but if it doesn't, she might be staying home from work tomorrow and then I won't have Cooper.

Today was a good day.  I got a lot done around here including 5 loads of laundry and a bit of cooking and two walks with Cooper.  We shall see what tomorrow brings.

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to tell us how you did that!  We're interested in everything you all do!  Good Night!

Deer are all over the place now. While I can say that the little deer family that I saw when I first moved in here have disappeared and I occasionally wonder if the deer dead deer I saw about a mile away along the road was one of "mine". I haven't seen a deer and only two sightings of groundhog out in the patch behind the apt. building. Come to think of it, I only noticed cats along the edge of the woods twice this summer. Sue, on the other hand, has a deer problem in her neighborhood. She had hosta planted out back that the deer have been helping themselves to, and there is a stretch of road she avoids like the plague certain times a day if she is out. When I took Oscar to the vet a month and a half ago, in the middle of the day, I came across about four deer grazing on a businesses' lawn close to the road at a point where there was a bank at bend in the road making it impossible to see far ahead. They were just casually grazing along the road and even leisurely crossed the road in front of me, obviously not afraid of the traffic.

Last night I saw a video of a huge fire at a mulch plant in Southern York County that erupted several days ago. I couldn't believe how tall the unbagged mulch piles were. News reports that 94 Fire company units responded, including at least two from Maryland. It got to the point where it looks like they had to set up temporary water containment pools and bring water in from elsewhere to transfer to the fighters because the hydrants in the area couldn't keep up with the demand. It was an amazing sight. I wonder what started the fire. My guess is that the mulch was piled on entirely to high to properly monitor for dangerous internal heat, like improperly maintained and monitored compost piles and hay bales.

Amy

Good morning.

It is a great morning here with a gentle rain. Glad the outside work was done yesterday. Some baking today along with vacuum sealing cooked food for the freezer.

Jane, hope Frankie is feeling better.

Rick , it is the same here, time ,hunters and their dogs and in the Spring the blackflies and mosquitos will put them out of the woods.

MG,hay, grains and maunure will heat if one isn't careful.Hope they got the fire out.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good mourning everyone,

I did not get my woodstove jury-rigged. I'm still struggling along with indoor temps in the 50°s until late afternoon. Its the parts. We can not get stainless steel flue parts locally. And one will need to be fabricated. Ron met with a couple of sheetmetal fabricators, they would not touch a stainless steel project. So Ron says he intends to fab it himself. Which means no wood heat for me this season. I encouraged him to build the hearth for me to tile anyway, so we can install the stove next season, while its still cold when I come. I've been keeping busy with figuring out how to hold every degree of heat possible and trying to keep warm. That and darning socks and gloves. Its been lows of 29°F, highs in the 50°s, high winds and alternates between rain and partly sunny. Occasionally we get a day or 2 of sun. Expecting snow this weekend. The outside air is getting better. I don't smell pesticide through my VOC filter mask anymore when I take out the dogs. I tried going without, but got reactions, so waiting another week before testing again.

Loved reading your entries, have a great day.

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This doesn't seem to be set up the way it usually is even though I did it like I always do.  There's something jumping in here and making things change in a way I don't ask it to change.  I hope it does what I ask it to do.

I read everything and I hope this posts.  I had a good dr. appt. yesterday and today I have to see the foot Dr. and return something I got at WM that I don't need.  Since the foot dr. is right aroung the corner from the Amish grocery store, I was kind of hoping we could run in there.  They have some things that nobody else around here carries and I need some of them.  Well, "need" probably isn't the right word.  I should have said "want"!

I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with us.  We're interested!  Or do I mean "nosy"!

Would a Flu made of a cheaper metal, used temporarily, be in order? Use for this season then replace next summer.

we were exploring all kinds of possibilities like that. The issue is it can't be painted or galvanized (both outgass toxins). We both ran extensive searches. What we could find would not be shipped and arrived until after I'd left. I found one fabricator near the Great Lakes that would build one, but at an exorbitant cost, and delivery would be next spring. 🫤 Frustrating. I reminded Ron when he came today today to try his "mock up" that the transition does not have to be stainless, just unpainted. Perhaps the local fabricators would do it if it was just unpainted, rather than stainless steel. The traition will not show. The chimney pipe we can order. It will still get here after I leave. So I'm still out of luck in regards to the whole project.  :P

OLM - I sit here thinking --- about your heat problem, and more than likely came up with the same or similar thoughts as you guys did --- None workable. I have no idea how much current an electric blanket pulls, but if it's low (which I think it is) it might be good for a warmer night, or a place to hide when the bones start aching.

Good morning..

Another rainy day ahead with a starting temp of 37° racing to 46° this afternoon.

Hope to take the ashes away and garbage and recycle. Delivered the goldfish to their new home yesterday. They will have quite an adjustment from the cold to a warm home.

OLM, have you tried a plumbing and heating business or even a muffler shop they may be able to fabricate you one?

Patricia, how are you and Farrah doing?

Jane, I think our Mennonite market has closed up for the year.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning!
Rick, Thats a good idea, though bed is the one place I'm warm. That one I have managed even down to 20°F inside the RV. I made myself an organic mattress with 8" of wool stuffing under me. I have plenty of blankets and coverings. I wear woolens to bed, including socks and a hat.

I wear woolens in the daytime, too. I cannot, however, get enough wool socks in my shoes to keep them from chilblains. It usually takes an hour or two to dissipate the chill from my toes after going to bed. I go to bed early, just to get warm.

Amy, those are good ideas. I'm pretty sure Ron explored those, excepting the muffler guys as they would be too toxic for me to use anything they made. Whoever makes it must be non-toxic.

I've come up with one more thing might help preserve the heat: blanketing the door. Its insulated metal. I noticed the whole surface of the door gets very cold, even though its insulated. I asked Ron to bring a dowel and rod hangers. I have some polar fleece that might be long enough. If not, I'll think of something.

I have been experimenting with getting outside without a VOC mask the last couple of days and am hoping to get out for a bit today and put some things away for winter, like swings, hoses and benches. I'm looking forward to it. Kato doesn't know it yet, but I'm turning him out for awhile too.

Have a very lovely day everyone!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Once again, I don't know if this will work. This day is on the way!  Cooper is here and I have to keep an eye on him because he was to the Vet yesterday and had a shot.  So far, the day is proceeding normally.  We shall see!

I have some cooking to do today.  I'm making "pie-chee-ams" for my lunch today and three more days.  Maybe to share with Christy when she comes next week!

Also, I have some cleaning up to do before she gets here!  And I'm going to lunch after church this Sunday with an old Friend.  We're going to renew some old memories.  She used to work at WM with me!

I better get up and get started.  I wish you all a great day!  Stop by and tell us what you did!  We're very interested (nosy?).

Chilly here today.  In the 40s when I got up.  But, it is a beautiful sunny day so should warm up nicely.  Could use some rain.  Very dry and we are in drought classification with fire warnings.
