Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner,
And someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile,
Then realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine,
Could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin,
Don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
And get the world infected.

There is nothing worse than a Doctor's Receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong with you in a room full of other patients.
I know most of us have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy handled it.
A 65-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk.
The Receptionist said, 'Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?'
'There's something wrong with my pecker', he replied.
The receptionist became irritated and said, 'You shouldn't come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that. '
'Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,' he said.
The Receptionist replied; 'Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.'
The man replied, 'You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of strangers if the answer could embarrass anyone. The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered.
The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, 'Yes??'
'There's something wrong with my ear,' he stated.
The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice.. 'And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?'
'I can't piss out of it,' he replied.
The waiting room erupted in laughter...

Bubble...as they say, ask a silly question, re, Doctors Receptionist :roflBig:
Good morning
Starting out at 41° and a clear blue sky.
Yesterday we had enjoyed the company of my friend's daughter and husband. We both miss her mom who passed 1 1/2 years ago. We reminisced sharing stories of good times and bad. When they were ready to go pickles, hot mustard and fresh beets went with Them.
Today we are to get company this morning then I am going to clean up more trug beds.
There were no fireworks last night and not likely tonight as folks will be heading home.
Bubble enjoyed the new start..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
BUBBLE, you always do such a great job of opening up a new month! I love everything you put in the new beginning! What would we ever do without you!!!
I'm being picked up this morning by a handsome young man and taken to brealfast at Cathy's house. The handsome young man is my grandson who is visiting her this weekend! He lives in the Philadelphia area and he doesn't get up this way often so I'm looking forward to this visit! His wife is off visiting her family friends too.
When I get back, I'll be waiting for a call from Oklahoma! Cindy already set it up. All the kids will be at her house and I'll ke to talk to three of my greatgrands! Also a Granddaughter and her husband! I'm looking forward to THAT CALL!
Gotta throw a load in the washer, too! I need some clean pants this week. I'm shrinking out of all my jeans.
I wish you all a happy holiday! Make the best you can of it! And come by tomorrow and tell us what you did! We love to hear the news!
Happy September Oneth!
I'm still here and hope someone recognizes me.
The weather in Oklahoma has been crazy for the past month! It's over 100º one day and the next day it's in the 60º. We've also had flooding; it's nice to have the rain - but not all at once.
When I look at my August calendar, I see most days have been med appointments, various regularly scheduled household workers and, occasionally, family members who usually bring a meal to share. I have a Home Helper one afternoon a week to help me with errands and other things.
One of the yard workers discovered two hornet nests - one on a patio post and one in a cabinet on the patio. :o Orkin came to get rid of them - and, since I have them spray the perimeter every other month - they didn't charge me for the extra trip.
Grandson is getting married on Sept. 20th. I'm not going to the parties but will go to the wedding which is at a "venue" - not a church. That seems to be a "style" nowadays, as is having a Taco Bar or a food truck for the reception (they're having a pizza truck) and registering on-line with a company who lists gifts the couple wants and other information. I just figured out how that works; hope I did it right!
And that's what's going on in my world.
Hope Everyfriend has a Wonderful Day and Week and Month.... :smitten:
Hi Callie
My gosh, temps over 100° is not nice!! We have often said if it wasn't for Dr appointments we wouldn't go anywhere!
Company has left and now get back to making windows giggle.....not my favourite job but it sure beats cleaning chickens.. :2funny:
Patricia, where are you??
Thanks, Bubble, for using my Sleeping Fairy graphic. I especially like the Smile poem. Maybe a smile would restore this troubled planet to a safer place to live for all of us.
I agree, Callie. If I didn't have any service appointments however, I wouldn't need all these calendars I try to keep up with, would I?
I am watching the bluebirds on my front lawn right now as I am exercising. They make me smile. :)
Amy, it isn't unusual to have 100º+ temperatures in an Oklahoma August. What's different this year is the 60º's!!!! That usually not until the end of September!
Phyllis, my calendar used to be filled with organizational events, volunteer hours and Bridge Clubs. I don't drive anymore and my mobility problems and hearing loss make it hard for me to be in meeting places and groups. :(
I have two feeders, two suet feeders and a hummingbird feeder. I enjoy sitting in my windows and watching the birds. Also have a rabbit in the evenings and, occasionally other critters. I looked out one time and saw 10 wild turkeys perched on the fence and around my yard!
I'm here but nothing new or different to report.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Fall has arrived in this area! The temp this morning is 51 degrees and only heading for a high of 75 in the afternoon!
I have a dr. appt later this morning so I have to be off and get myself ready for that. Cathy will be coming by to pick me up. No Cooper today! Frankie is off and maybe will be off for a while. She has a dr. appt. too and hers might be a bit more complicated than mine! Her mother will be arriving later today from Maryland!
CALLIE, it's nice to see you posting! I know how it is to not drive and to look out the windows at the birdies and animals! I do a lot of that too!
I guess I better get myself dressed and ready for pickup. I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way. And don't forget to stop by and share it with us. We're the curious type!
Good morning
Chilly here but great for working in. Have a lot to do today laundry and clean out some trugs. Really enjoyed our company yesterday and sent some pickles home with them.
Jane, hope all goes well at the Drs.
Callie, I didn't like frying this past summer and although close to 100° it was more than enough for me.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good morning everyone and I hope a good day spent with friends and loved ones, and good results at doctors today, for all.
Good morning
Off to the city for an appointment this morning. Picking up a few things at Costco then heading home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good Morning Everyfriend!
Christy is off to the dr. with Frankie and I'm here with 2 little doggies. We've had our breakfast and our walks and now they are both sleeping on chairs in the living room. Oh yes! The chairs are covered!
I'm waiting for Christy to come back and tell me how Frankie is doing. She took her to the dr. for some attention.
I wish you all a great day! Do whatever suits your fancy! And don't forget to share it with us! We're the curious type!
Good morning every one!
Yesterday was a rest day after morning chores. I had to take a ladder on patrol and replace a weathered "No Trespassing sign." Ialso put up a camera where I was smelling someone. Poacher. I'm getting nailed by their mosquito and tick dope and fragrances.
It got around 100°F. To hot for me. I made calls and then read a couple of L.M Montgomery novels. I'm now reading Girl of the Limberlost, by Porter. Its going to be another scorcher.
Callie, so good to hear from you! Hornets are no fun! They've certainly been prolific up here this year.
Loved the joke Bubble😄
Good morning Phyllis, watching bluebirds while exercising, sounds like a routine I could enjoy. I love bluebirds. They migrate through spring and fall.
Amy, glad to hear you had a nice time with friends. What are "trugs?" I liked "make the windows giggle." It brought a smile to my face.
Jane, I enjoy your nice breezy posts.
Patricia, I'm glad you checked in, even if you felt you didn't have anything to share.
Have a nice day everyone!
Callie, you and I lead similar lives, I think. My biggest problem is I refuse to accept my limitations. I keep thinking that if I twitch my nose or click my ruby heels together everything will go back to what it used to be. Makes me cranky when that doesn't happen. :tickedoff: :)
Good morning,
Amy, I grew up in Oklahoma but had lived for 14 years at 10,200 feet above sea level in Colorado. It was hard to move back to 100º temperatures. However, I moved back here 48 years ago because of husband's job, so I'm used to it!
Phyllis, I also get cranky when I think about the many activities I can no longer do! The mobility limitations are structural and the podiatrist told me "limited walking and standing". When I asked him to define "limited" he said, "Not more than two hours out of eight". I told him that wasn't even a good shopping trip to the Mall!!! :2funny:
Housekeeper is here and I'm "helping" by staying out of her way. ;)
Son is bringing dinner. I don't know what it will be - but guessing it will be Chinese.
Wishing Everyfriend a Wonderful Day :smitten:
[/b]Now the day is over! And I'm just about to hit the hay!
Frankie, in-and-out surgery went well. Christy spent the day with her and I had both of the doggies. About an hour ago, Christy came by and picked up both doggies and took them to Frankie's. Now I'm here all alone and I will be alone for the rest of the week!
I don't have to do anything special when I get up tomorrow but I plan to take a walk while it's still cool in the morning! And I have some kitchen things to do and another load of laundry to go through the washer. I guess I'll find some other stuff to do. There's always something.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. come by and tell us all about it! I do love reading what you all write and seeing how you spend your time. Keep on keeping on!
Not doing much of anything to write about, Jane. I just finished my walking on the elliptical machine and came right back to the recliner. I seem to be kind of tired today. I think I can make good use of that extra hour we will get with the time change....when it happens. Hope Cooper's mom will get better quickly.
Take care, All.
Good Afternoon Everyfriend!
I was wrong! I'm not alone for the rest of the week. Christy slept over at Frankie's last night but she came back here this morning. Frankie is off until Monday and she's taking care of Cooper and napping! Christy said she came through the in-and-out surgery very well. She's tired and she needs some recovery time but she's OK!
And Christy is making dinner here today! It's going to be different that the meals that Sarah and Cathy have been bringing. I think she's heading for fresh spaghetti! I'll go for that!
I hope you are all doing well! Keep on keeping on! And don't forget to stop by and let us know what's up in your area. We're curious!
Good morning, 53 presently and partly sunny. Nothing new here, my days are basically the same, morning routines, meet and greets, making coffee and feeding everyone.
Sometimes I'll have a package due or being present for someone else's package. And sometimes I'll go out with friends for a bit of shopping and or meals with friends.
I usually have some type of lessons going on, lately it's been geography, and the animals, and customs within. I'm just starting back into PSP graphics lessons again, not much differently.
Callie, and Phyllis, how nice to see you both posting more. I can identify as winter is hard for me and my low vision and limited mobility. I've been thinking about looking into the possibility of a housekeeper.
Jane, it's nice to see you back posting regularly, although I'm sorry to hear about Frankie and hope she's soon back on par. And that you have Cooper back regularly for strolls around the neighborhood.
Goodnight anyone. - ZZZZzzzz
Good morning..
Past two days have been a tad busy and today is another one. Yesterday 15 pints of chili sauce were done and today spaghetti sauce will be canned.Need to label and put away the jars then start on the sauce.
Jane, hope Frankie is feeling a lot better today.
Callie, you're a great "helper"
Phyllis, I do understand about not being able to do the things we used to. One time I was able to take the horse feed the lenght of the barn and empty in the bins. Now if I tried to throw that over my shoulder I would go a$$ over tea kettle trying.
OLM, trugs are raised garden beds. I will try and find the photos here and show you.

Look for post 10919
Patricia, friends must appreciate you looking out for their packages for them. How is Farrah doing?
Rick, tip toeing and trying not to make a noise incase you are still using your ZZZZzzzz's
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 50 degrees and still in the grip of a steady rain that began overnight, high of only 57 today. The old habit of a rainy, cool down August. Followed by a cooler but beautiful September, has not been the case this year. I was even wrong about last winter being our first with freezing rain, as a friend states it happened in the winter of 2003.
Morning routines, meet and greets, feeding everyone, making coffee, and expecting my own order today. Amy, looking out for packages for a neighbor is simply reciprocity. They look out for mine if needed.
Farrah is doing well. She recently pulled another switcheroo, now she loves and only wants wet food, dry if forced, and that sudden apathy to dry food extends to treats. She follows me from room to room or lays in the hallway where she has a direct sight line into two of those rooms. Her last vet visit went well for a thirteen-year-old cat, She's 68 in cat years. She will stay in sight for females, but a human male still sends her running for cover.
My mother came from a generational farming family, as did my father. We canned food and managed a garden acre every year, but other than my older sister, my younger sister and I never kept up the habit. Both of us, younger and me, meal prepped when we had families, not so much after. I do make up what I call bases, meat, peppers, onions, plus spices. That base gets divvied up into portions, in the freezer, awaiting any finishing touches for a different meal.
I've never swung anything over my shoulder at any time, other than a coat. Which has saved me from being as you said going a$$ over tea kettle! I can manage that by simply attempting to walk! 🤕
I sent my first group of lesson PSP graphics this morning and waiting for my moderator to look them over and return them.
It looks like the Soda Shop must be closing down.. No one has been here since yesterday noon time. I think I saw a mouse late last night.
Good morning...
Starting out at 52° this morning. The past few days have been a tad busy and today is a day of rest!! Made the spaghetti sauce and while canning it the power went out twice! Not enough to stop the canner thankfully. Yesterday I took hubby to Timmies and I was going to clean up a tree and branches that the wind had taken down only to find our neighbour had beat me to it!! We are so blessed with good neighbours! I spent the day cleaning out more trugs andtilling the side little garden. The electric tiller works like a charm.
Today other than meal preparing is going to be sewing. :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I see I forgot to mark the switch again and just this morning realized it.
My appointment to look at my thumb went well. For the moment, I am putting off shots or surgery as the pain is not bad or present if I don't put too much pressure on it. It was a little disappointing to discover that there aren't really any exercises that can help. So, what it is is indeed trigger finger, and beyond that the x-ray found the several small nodules indicating arthritis is creeping in. If the trigger finger doesn't clear up on its own or gets worse, I can get up to two cortisone shots before thinking about surgery.
Tomorrow I see have a trip to the spinal institute nearby for a long overdue check on my back situation. Of the three of us, I am the only one who has not had shots or surgery. That is somewhat surprising since I am the oldest. Again, not wanting any shots or surgery, but perhaps some physical therapy or guidelines on what exercises I can do to not worsen anything. Still haven't had my overdue DEXA screening which is supposed to be paid for Medicare. I have never had to have a prescription to get the screening before, but this year, both my regular lab (Penn State) is insisting I get one as is UPMC. I checked with my insurance company and they said a prescription isn't required by them or by Medicare and that it might be a new policy of Penn State and UPMC. My sister insists it is no big deal, and it isn't, really, but I get pretty irritated at all these new, unnecessary hoops these outfits are adding. So, now they have created another small pocket of resistance.
Good morning
We are off and running to the city for a Dr appointment . Temp is 35° at the moment and no rain in the forecast.
MG that must be sore! Does soaking in warm water and Epsom salts help?
Jane, where are you???
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Just a short visit before I must get ready for this morning's appointment.
I don't think so, Amy. The PA said there isn't much for it but to use my brace, take pain pills, or go for a shot if it gets too bothersome, or surgery if necessary.
Weatherman says temp is 45o. I hope that doesn't set the darn low tire pressure sensor off again. That happened just a few days ago. It happens every year when the temps drop in the fall. Its very early for this year. Hope I don't have a tire problem.
Everyone, have a good morning.
Quote from: Amy on September 08, 2025, 06:33:24 AMTemp is 35° at the moment
It feels like that here. after all the high temp's we had. But it was only down to 50 when I got up. Heat not on in the house so it feels a bit chilly. I guess that's why I have some flannel shirts.
Good morning everyone,
This last weekend the 98-100°F weather broke and began a cooling trend. We will be having rain and T-storms for the first part of the week. I, much relieved and better able to work when its cool, finished up the fence mending and returned to wood cutting. Yesterday I made the hill the first leg of my poacher/poo patrol loop. There's been this small fir, 4"diameter trunk, that broke in a wind storm several winters ago that needs cutting. Because of its entanglements, I didn't have the skill set at the time, so had only cut up the parts I could reach. I thought yesterday would be a perfect morning to clear it. Learned a new lesson. Yellow Jackets nest in forest litter. Innocent looking forest litter. I began limbing the tree while standing on the yellow jacket nest. Needless to say, I got multiple stings. There are 5, maybe 6. One location, the back of my thigh, I can't see. It feels like more than one. One on my neck which is giving me less problems than the double one at the top of my left thigh. Its bright red (top half of my thigh), swollen and hard. One just above my left knee. That left pant leg had a hole in it. They got right in. I got the last one on the way back to camp in an unmentionable place. When I dropped my pants in the RV, 2 yellow jackets flew out. Boy were they mad! I took homeopathics and tried hypericum and arnica salves for pain relief. I've never had more than one sting at a time before. I was surprised to feel nauseous and headachy. Anybody whose had more than one sting at a time know if thats typical?
Ron arrived Saturday evening, so he only worked from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Sunday, before going home. He got a slab poured for the step. When it set up enough he created the step with cinder blocks that he'll plaster next week. Then he framed the two side walls and strung a few of the joists to keep them true during this next stormy week.
Since I was out of commission for hard labor, I worked on odds and ends. I had broken the handle of my broom several weeks ago: sweeping too vigorously. I find that hard to believe, and appalling that a broom could be so flimsy. Anyway the repair I effected was not satisfactory. It kept coming loose. I'd shoved a stick, the diameter of the inside, inside the hollow handle and taped the sections together with strong duct tape. Even though it was all I could do to get the sections jammed back together on the "dowel", it still kept working itself loose. So I redid it and drove a roofing nail (because thats what I had available) in each side of the break. Then I taped over that. Hopefully it will hold. I worked more on removing rust and treating my wood cookstove. While I was doing that I opened all the windows and the refrigerator door, and aired out the new fridge. Its not plugged in yet. No power to the Tiny House. I thought I'd cleaned it enough before, but the new plastic must be outgassing. I need to put some baking soda in there today. I worked on some stained laundry.
MG, glad you are resisting the shots and surgery. Here is what I've learned about many types of nosodites, RA, gout and stones (gall blader, kidney stones, etc): uric acid. So you might want to consider a low purine diet. Be sure to avoid anything with Canola oil, or vegetable oil because it has
Canola in it (prepared food). Typically just avoiding those clears up most people's gout and RA. Canola oil is a hybrid form of Rape Seed oil with lower uric acid. Not none, but lower. The original rape seed oil was used to lubricate war ships. After the war they tried marketing it as a food oil. Lots of oeople died from "gout." Canola is used in everything now. My husband got gout decades ago. My son got terrible gout about 10 years ago, I ended up with severe gout and RA this last spring due to roadside spraying. The sticker they used was mostly "seed oil." I'm betting Rape Seed oil based on my response to it. Anyway, if you are open to it, the homeopathic remedy Ruta Graviolens removes urid acid. Try a 200c potency. I used it, Bryonia and Arnica in addition to arnica salve. I also cleared my diet of high purine foods (morel mushrooms). I had to stick with it for 3 months, it was so severe. I can close my hands again compketely and am without pain or inflamnation most of the time. Since I know some farmers that munched a handful of Canola seeds while in their field one day and all three ended up in the ER that night black over their entire bodies with severe, life threatening gout, I know for a fact, Canola is not food! And it causes health problems of high uric acid. Anyway, thats the most valuable info I have for anyone suffering with joint pain, inflammation, gout, RA, or stones in the body anywhere.
Have a lovely day everyone.
Good morning, nothing new here, and it's 48 and still raining. Evidently, we have an atmospheric river stalled directly over us. Meet and greets, morning routines, feeding everyone and making coffee is done.
I received my packages yesterday, which was a surprise because it was my first Sunday delivery. It's interesting that ordering is faster and sometimes cheaper than going out to get items yourself.
I do have some business calls to make, and the look outside is dismal, I'm hoping not to have to go somewhere if I can't handle it over the phone.
Otherwise, I'm hoping everyone is having a good day.
Good morning..
Might have had frost last night, I did cover up some of the garden before going to bed. . Starting with a 33° this morning with hopes of some warmth today.
On the go again, this time for an oil change then home to do those delightful DDs.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
No where near 33 last night, but it did get chilly. Now, near noon, it's around 60. Have to start thinking about turning some heat on.
Good morning, 45 presently, heading to the early sixties. Temperatures are expected to drop tomorrow, but there's mist in the valley over the waters and the leaves are almost in full color.
Morning routines and meet and greets are in progress, coffee needs to be made, and I've got an unexpected errand to run sometime this morning. I ordered some items that will be here tomorrow, and that's are the news or trivia I have for today.
Good morning anyone. No one here since yesterday around noon time.
Looks like it's going to be a wet one here. Sure looks like Fall is moving in.
Light Rain here.
Just got my grocery order put away. After a very late breakfast, I have some dishes to hand wash and some books to reshelve. Then, when I go for my mail, later, I have some trash to take to the bins. Other than that, nothing specific to do.
I still need to complete my research and pick a PT.The outfit my Orthopedic Dr. gave me info on is not part of my insurance network. There are a lot of listings that seem more oriented to sports injuries, or, seem for the younger set. Many of them do not have a web presence, so I can't tell what kind of facility or with what types of problems they think they have experience.
Hello Everyfriend! I lost my way in again and when Cathy was here this aftenoon, she fixed me up. This is the first chance I've had to sit down and write. And it's also my last! I have to be up and about tomorrow morning to meet Cooper a bit before 6 a.m. So I'll be off to bed soon!
I read everything you all wrote and you're all busy little beavers! Keep on keeping on! That's how we keep our lives going forward! My daughter and SIL picked me up today and took me to the local Farmers Market. It's there every Wednesday but I can only go when someone will pick me up. I got some stuff from a local farmer to have for upcoming meals and I'm looking forward to that!
Now I'm going to say good night to all of you and close up things around here and get some stuff ready for tomorrow. I have a plumber coming
"around 8" tomorrow morning. That's what he said so I'll have to be watching for him. And I'll have to be dressed and ready to meet him.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. Don't forget to stop by and tell us what you're up to. We're the curious type!
Jane, so happy to see a post from you!
Goodnight anyone. Another day comes to an end. ---

Good Morning Everyfriend!!!
Good morning to you too, Jane.
It is cloudy now, but the clouds should be gone this afternoon. Temp is 56o at the moment.
I am just getting started on the day after feeding the cats and sitting with Oscar on my lap for an hour or so.
Good morning from me, too. Cloudy right now but supposed to clear and be warmer later. I love autumn,,,,the leaves are showing some color. A quiet day of no appointments so maybe David can help me out to sit on the deck for awhile and enjoy the sounds of the birds and feel the sun. That would be nice.
Take care, All.
Good morning all. We're starting with a bright sunny morning, about 60°. Surely a good day for sitting out there, and listening to the wildlife. When I went to get the paper I could hear a cardinal.
Remember 9/11 !
PATRIOTS DAY
Good morning
Nice to see everyone. Our temp is 48 at the moment with the sun putting a run on the clouds. Trying to program a tv remote and now on the phone with a one moment operator! Frustration at its best! Now I have been transfered to another one!YAY, it is now working!
Rick, you are so lucky the have cardinals around. Must admit I did get a chuckle watching the crows take their bread over to the neighbours tomato patch.... do you think they are making a 🍅 sandwich?
Phyllis, I too love the Fall, sights sounds and smells
OK, need to get busy.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on September 11, 2025, 09:30:58 AMwatching the crows take their bread over to the neighbours tomato patch.... do you think they are making a 🍅 sandwich?
Put out a couple of slices of bacon and see what happens :2funny:
Rick, neighbour loves bacon so it could be interesting watching crow vs man for the food!! :2funny:
Mercy, crows are cawing for more now...
Good morning everyone,
Glad to see you all here. Its 55°F, partly cloudy. It rained in the night and there was mist on the meadows. I slept in until a 1/4 til 7:00. Today will "more of the same" for me: wood cutting, continuing my desperate search for an MD willing to take me as a patient and who knows enough to help me. I've sent my records to several on request only to have them tell me they don't have the skills to help someone like me. Its demoralizing, as the spray draws nigh. I have not heard back from the lawyer I consulted with as to wether he'll take my case or not. Very stressed.
Phyllis, glad to hear you may get out for sun and fresh air👍
Amy and Rick, I dreamed about picking garden produce last night. I could even smell that green pepper in my dream😋
I best get going. Have a wonderful day.
Phyllis forgot to add, we are having your bean soup. I put a IP on yesterday and threw a couple of handfulls of lima beans in too! Tasty thank you!!
Good morning, 51 on a drizzly, cooler day, with a dense fog advisory. I think it may be 2026 before we see 60 again. All morning routines finished, coffee's made and Farrah fed.
My Amazon order came in yesterday which included, a 2026 planner which I will fill in the necessary bits after I return from a couple of needed errands. The other bits and pieces were simply some spices and bath items.
It's nice to see both Jane and Phyllis posting today. And Rick and Amy, your running joke was today's breakfast. Luckily, no crows around here, the ravens are enough, they'll rob you blind as it is. Winter ice fishermen can have their line and catch snatched and find their pickup back ravaged on their return.
Fall is definitely on it's last dregs here, as they're talking about snow flurries possible on the second week of October. The weather people are saying be ready for a long cold arctic winter and the farmer's almanac is saying warm and drier for the arctic. I think I'll go with NOAA's prediction.
We don't have the red cardinal in Alaska, we do have a Western Tanager, a type of cardinal. I looked up a description, "Western Tanagers have a flaming orange-red head, yellow body, and black wings. Females have only red faces, and their bodies are yellow-green."
Right now the only birds remaining, are some wrens, chickadees, sparrows, ptarmigans, gyrfalcons, and various owls. In the fall, the smaller birds will join into large multi species flocks for protection and in the spring will separate back into smaller same species flocks. The ravens have returned from the mountains, where they spend the summer in cooler weather. Several birds change color from season to season.
Good Morning! Good Afternoon! Good Evening and Good Night!
I was a bit busy today and I didn't make it in here so this is for the whole day! I didn't have Cooper today and Frankie didn't stop by. Cathy came by on her way to WM and she picked up a couple things for me. I don't have a yen to go shopping any more. I still like to go to the Farmers Market on Wednesdays but that's different.
I see you've all been busy as can be! You do what you do and then it's done! I kind of wish we lived a bit nearer to one another so we could wave or stop in a say "Hi"!
Tomorrow will be a busy day. Cooper will be here a bit before 6 and he'll need his breakfast and a walk. Then the plumber is coming around 8 to see if he can fix my seat in the bathroom! Then I have to start getting ready for the Saturday Cleaning ladies! Lots to think of tomorrow. And I put my trash out tonight so that can will have to be brought back in after they do their thing! Busy day tomorrow.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. Don't forget to stop by and share it with us. We love to hear from you! I did love reading the messages today. I laughed at some of them~ Good night Everyfriend!
Good morning
Chilly one here with temp at 36°. Busy day ahead..picking up a few things in town then home to bake. One way to heat the house up.
Jane, so good to see you!!
Patricia, the birds are fun to watch. Crow does try to take a bath in the container but he is just too big, perect though for the Thrush and smaller birds.
Better shake a leg and get at it.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
The plumber just left after making my seat in the bathroom work again. I asked him if he would be giving me a bill and he said it would come in the mail and that he has no idea what the cost is. He did a good job.
I have a dozen things that need doing today so I'll be busy and working at it most of the day. I'll only take time for Cooper's walks and loving hime up and a short visit with Granddaughter Frankie when she picks him up!
I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way and don't forget to share a piece of it with us. We miss you when you don't stop by! And we wonder what youre up to! Bye bye now!
Good morning, 43, another day of steady rain, I'm glad I was able to get those few errands done yesterday, so today will be a day of rest. Morning routines, meet and greets, feeding everyone and making coffee's finished so here I am.
Amy, I used to spend a lot of time at the bird sanctuary and really enjoyed watching the birds. They had two fenced open field areas for public viewing and a few backwards areas for public access, but a lot of that backwoods trail viewing ended when people insisted on unleashing their dogs. They ended up banning dogs and some people before finally restricting everyone to the public viewing fields without an escort. Some people feel they can do what ever they want and end up ruining it for many.
Nice to hear about Cooper, and we missed your posts, Jane. So nice to see you backing to posting.
Question, who came up with the first knock, knock joke?
You might be surprised to discover it was Shakespeare.
"William Shakespeare's impact in your life is much bigger than just some required reading in your high school English class. It's believed that almost 2,000 words appeared for the first time in his plays and poetry — including many that are regulars in our everyday modern vocabulary, such as "downstairs," "eyeball," and "bedroom." He also built on existing language by changing words that were previously used as nouns into verbs, and by adding prefixes and suffixes to create new variations."
Here's a few of the better known ones,
Lie low
Green-eyed monster
Heart of gold
Fair play
Break the ice
Wild goose chase
It's all Greek to me
Forever and a day
As good luck would have it
And Love is blind, first coined by Chaucer in 1405, but Shakespeare popularized this phase in the Merchant of Venice
in 1605.
And, that joke, Knock-knock? "Congrats, Shakespeare! You are the father of the knock-knock joke. While used to cheesy effect today, this line, when uttered multiple times by the Porter in Macbeth, demonstrates a deft sense of cleverness.
This is going to hurt...A taste for the hedonist.
It's always the way on a gorgeous summer's day, isn't it? You get out the garden furniture, pour a nice cold beverage, put up your feet—and then you hear the unwanted whine of a mosquito ready to bite you into itchy misery...
When it comes to being a mosquito meal, however, some people seem more susceptible than others. Now, researchers from the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands have discovered one surprising culprit: drinking beer.
The team—led by biophysicist Felix Hol—came to this conclusion after bringing thousands of female Anopheles mosquitoes to the Lowlands music festival in 2023.
Fortunately, the researchers didn't let the biting bugs loose on the attendees—but instead invited the participants to take part in a special trial conducted in a unique pop-up lab built from connected shipping containers.
Approximately 500 festival-goers volunteered for the experiment. First, they filled out a questionnaire about their diet, hygiene and behavior at the event.
Next, to test their attractiveness to the mosquitoes, each volunteer placed their arm inside a specially designed cage containing the insects.
Tiny holes allowed the mosquitoes to smell the person's arm—but prevented them from actually biting.
A video camera recorded how many mosquitoes landed on the arm compared to a sugar feeder.
The team found that subjects who drank beer were 1.35 times more attractive to mosquitoes than those who abstained.
The study also found that the insects were more likely to target people who had been intimate with a partner the previous night.
In contrast, recent showering and using sunscreen were found to make people less attractive to mosquitoes.

Patricia, you may have those mosquitoes! We also have blackflies here , you only know the blackfly has bit you is when the blood trickles down your face....nasty litte buggers!
Amy, Alaska, not so jokingly calls mosquitoes, its state bird. And you can buy tiny leg hold mosquito traps in most of the gift shops. Unfortunately, with so many forests, ponds, lakes and rivers, they've set up shop and moved in permanently.
There is a small bird, don't know its proper name; that is black on top, white tail and white underside. It's said to eat its body weight in mosquitoes twice over each day. The bird sanctuary staff put up and maintain, as do many parks and recreational spots, bird houses for them. A worse menace, to my way of thinking, are tiny black biting noseeums.
We don't have the large biting flies, but I've run into them in my travels through the west, horrible creatures!
I found the article interesting because of what attracted the mosquitoes to people.
As I did, seeing Shakespeare still relevant.
Good morning.
Warmer this morning temp is 51° not sure if we shall see rain or not today.
Company coming this morning, will be nice to see them as it has been a while.
Making this a quickie..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Time to say "Good Night Everyfriend"!
This was one of those days that kept going on and on and on and on! I never seemed to get finished. And tomorrow is another day!
I loved all the "bug stuff" that you gave us PATRICIA! You sure have a lot of good stuff to report! I don't think I ever heard any of that "bug stuff" before! I guess one is never too old to learn something new!
I'm off to the sleeping quarters! I'm tired right up the gazoo! I'll be back tomorrow. I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a great day tomorrow. See you then! Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite! (That's what my Gramma used to say to us when we started up the stairs at night)
Good morning..
Looks as though we have had some rain overnight and our starting temp is 55°.
Thoroughly enjoyed our company yesterday, lots of laughs and catching up. Raked the pinecones and needles off the front lawn..looks much nice now.
Today is a day of rest, have soup for lunch and maybe burgers for supper.
Jane ,do we ever get finished? We don't have to "look" for work it always finds us! I gave David some of your cole slaw, he loves it on a pulled pork sandwich!
Patricia, do you have snakes there?
Rick we have given the furnace a short run just to get the house warm then turn off again. All too soon it will be on for the winter.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I have those old steam heated iron radiators here, and I like to brush them out before I turn on any heat to get the dust out of them. The heat makes the dust circulate, and it's more efficient. My ambition for cleaning them has been very low this year, but I better get at it. Only one done so far. I have confidence in the boiler (fingers crossed).
Good morning, nothing new here, 42 and raining. Meet and greets, morning routine and feeding everyone is done plus coffee just finished brewing.
Jane, I read something interesting yesterday. I was curious because someone recently, perhaps you, had said, don't let the bedbugs bite. It first appeared in an 1896 book and actually was talking about fleas.
Next week will be somewhat busy with grocery shopping on Tuesday, a haircut on Wednesday, and the library on the 19th. The drain replacement finally finished last week, but now they're putting in plaster board in the hallways to cover the holes they cut to reach the hallway pipes. On my floor, they've painted over white and sanded the walls down. The next step will be overall painting. Then, hopefully, we're done until the next big project is announced.
Amy, I've had the heat on and the humidifier going for two weeks now. If I don't run it in the winter, I get headaches from the lack of humidity and dry out until I get headaches and my skin burns.
No snakes here, thankfully. No ticks, either or raccoons, opossums, fireflies, alligators, or hummingbirds. There's probably a lot more we don't have in the arctic, but those are the ones I thought of.
Anchorage is similar to Seattle, and we have far less humidity, sometimes below three percent even with the rain we've had. Today is five percent.
Ruthie sent me a link to a bread recipe, sweet pumpkin sourdough bread with a cinnamon swirl center. She knows I'm thinking about making my own bread again, or perhaps buying a bread machine. Here's the link if you, or perhaps Jane, might like to try it. https://gatherednutrition.com/pumpkin-cinnamon-swirl-sourdough-bread/
Rick, I've had my heat on since the first week in September. I usually turn it off in April and back on in October, but it has been so rainy this year. I set it at 72 during the day and 64 at night. If we have the winter prophesied, I'll probably keep it warmer due to air whistling in around the windows.
Good morning.
Starting out at 37° this morning. Busy day ahead, more pickled beets to do . Robins are hammering the Mountain Ash berries soon the tree will be bare.
Patrica, we will have the heat on soon enough. We do have some light wood that if a quick fire is needed will do.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
[/b]Good Morning Everyfriend! I've been up and attem since 5:30 this morning. Cooper wasn't due until just before 7 today but I still can't sleep in!
It's a beautiful day in Central Pennsylvania! The sun is out and the air is slightly moving! Cooper took me for a morning walk and we had a good breakfast. I have some stuff to do around here so I better get busy. I wish you all a pleasant day! Make it your own in every way! And be sure to tell us how you did that. We're the curious type!
Good morning, still raining, still in the forties, and I'm finished with the usual to-dos. Nothing to do here but play catchup and finish my PSP lessons.
Almost 2:00 here so good morning and good afternoon. Sunny and 80ish, and nothing to do. Actually do have things to do, but I'm not going to do them today.
A little bit after ten now. Time to pack it in for the day. Doing nothing isn't easy.
Morning all!
It looks like we will be staying below 80o today and tomorrow with a possibility of some showers today and definite (not a super good word when it comes to the weather forecasters these days) period of rain on Wednesday.
OLM hasn't posted for five days, hope she is doing okay.
Not much to do today, but I did get some pet wipes to try and clean the cats up a little. Oscar is not much into cleaning himself now and Shan's long hair sometimes picks up crud. They are both close to nail cutting time, always a trial with the result being I get cat-u-punctured and a nail or two get missed.
Just got word that my youngest sister and SIL will be visiting the beginning of October.
That is pretty much it for now.
Good morning
Starting out at 40° this morning. Yesterday was busy, another 22 pints of beets done making it over 50 lbs of beets pickled.Labeling and putting away today ,that is it for beets!
Rick, Actually do have things to do, but I'm not going to do them today. Doing nothing isn't easy. Gave me laugh, thank you!
MG, I take it the cats don't care for their pedicure?
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I will be travelling this coming weekend....well, I'll be leaving on Thursday late afternoon. My granddaughter is going to Maryland to celebrate her birthday with her Mom and she's dropping me off for a visit with my sister on the way. My Sister is 15 months older than me and still living alone in her home. Neither of us drive any more so we don't get to visit face-to-face any more. This will be a special time!
I hope you are all doing well and taking care of yourselves! Keep on keeping on! We need to stay in there and do whatever suits us. I noticed some of you saying that you weren't going to do anything. I have lots of days like that! You don't think it's part of the aging process, do you? Oh well! Whatever it is, it's us...or at least it's me!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And come by and tell us how you did that....or how you didn't do that!
Good morning, 41 and still raining, with a dense fog, while the weather folks keep telling us it will be partly cloudy.
I'll be out most of the day shopping with friends and lunch somewhere, that's it for my day, haircut on Wednesday and neighbor's package delivery on Friday, instead of the library.
MG, cutting Farrah's nails is a contortionist act. She is not fond of it, and you have to plan an ambush beforehand. So many people use old long sleeved shirts on cats, hoist them up and do it that way. You can even buy the equipment online. I've thought about it many times.
Jane, have a good visit with your sister. My sister lives a long way from here, but, we do talk and email, more than when we lived close.
Amy, what ever will you do with fifty pounds of pickled beets?
Another afternoon slipping away. Temp is 71° on this sunny day. My sister just called to chat, she had to say goodbye to one of her cats, he was 18yr old.
Some work got done but some got let for whoever wants to do it. :2funny:
Patricia, Kyle likes pickled beets and we have friends that also like them, so jars go home with them to enjoy. We certainly could use some rain here, if you have any to spare.
I know someone on here recently moved to Mechanicsburg, PA and that's where I'm going to visit my sister. If you would email me your address, I'll check out if I can walk that far from my sister's house and maybe we can say "hello" face-to-face! I'd love to meet you!
Now I'm going to finish up some stuff I'm working on and head for the bedroom! Cooper will be arriving tomorrow morning a bit before 6 a.m. and I have to be ready to meet the day!
I wish you all a peaceful night and great day tomorrow!
Good afternoon, I'm back after a lovely shop and lunch with friends.
I'm now back to stocked up on more than hamburger and probably over did it on the fresh fruit. Tonight, I made a hamburger roll and pressed spices all over it before slicing. I set out four slices to cook and packaged the rest for the freezer.
I had a nice phone visit with my sister and then went to YouTube to see some worldwide real estate offers, a 16th century French castle anyone? And here I am.
Amy, I hope I wasn't being obnoxious. I'm not a fan of any picked vegetables, there were a lot when I was growing up. But then you haven't been fans of my quinoa. I do, however, enjoy pickles, especially garlic dills.
I almost bought a new pair of dark cocoa sweats, talked myself out of them, but did buy some nice walking shoes with supports. I really don't need any shirts, pants or sweaters, but there's always that moment when the moment hits. It's sad and a sign of the times, when you really don't need anything. It takes the fun out of it.
Amy, you can take some of this rain, please take it! :( We did have a dry afternoon, promised tomorrow too and then back to rain on Wednesday. The online news says this rain has been an aberration, not seen since 1996.
Jane, perhaps MG?
Good morning..
Another chilly one starting at 39° Mixed day here, need to do a bit of outside work plus some inside work. Some will get done and others will just have to wait their turn.
Patricia, never thought anything of it. I like some pickles but not all....you and Kyle may have the dills. :2funny: I knew a man that would make pickled beets sandwiches but then he also liked a cucumber sandwich too. Where as I like a meatloaf or mashed turnip sandwich.
Jane, enjoy your time with your sister! There will be a lot of catching up between the two of you.
Better get this day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good damp morning to you all. Looks like we had some sprinkles earlier. Expecting rain to start around 9am and continuing most of the day and into early evening. Today seems like a good day to do some more reading.
It is soon time to think about digging up a big weed and a tree that sprouted over one of my daffodil spots this summer thanks to the squirrels. Those bulbs will need reset. I hope to find some more to plant, and maybe some tulips or hyacinths as long as my hand can handle the effort. The back parking lot is showing the beginning of growing a leaf carpet.
Good morning everyone,
The days got away from me. Sorry to have delayed checking in for so long MG. I didn't mean to worry you. The weekends are "work like a dog days" because Ron is here and he works like a dog, but only if I do. Since I want my tiny house built, I better be there and doing everything I can to promote good work ethic. So while he finished framing the enclosed parts of the porch Saturday, I built the first wire enclosure for smaller firewood. I also sorted the huge pile I had collected: bits, pieces, ends, kindling. Then I took the 000 steel wool to the decades old baked on crud on the stainless steel trim around the cook top. It looks lovely! Sunday it poured! We had so much rain it was running down the slopes and standing in deep puddles in every low spot. Ron worked through it. I mostly stayed in, internet searching. It was quite cold. I ran the heat as much as I dared (on solar). I get hypothermia. Ron was soaked through, and by the end of the day cold, but not chilled. He got the porch roof on. Not quite finished. Monday was recovery day and more internet searching for Dr.s. Yesterday, I had a 15 minute consult with a specialist. He will take me. Not only that, he makes house calls! I do have to pay for that. Its a 7 hr round trip for him. He knows my retired E.I.. He's as much a stickler as I am about fragrance and toxic substances. 😆 He was a bit offended that I made the point of stipulating that he had to be fragrance free and non-toxic to come. He said, "Young lady, do you know who I am?!" To which I responded, "I don't know you, and I have found its imperative that I make that statement as most people aren't, and I get hurt." We got on very well after that. We're on the same page. He was going to take a look at his calendar and let me know when he could come. Later I found out the spray may start next week. I spent the rest of the day taking pics of my old chart notes, converting them to PDF files and going up the hill to send them to his office. I called the pending lawyer to see if he was going to actually take my case or not. He'd said he'd get back to me last week. He hadn't. His receptionist told me he was writing me a letter... That sounds like a "no." I have not received it yet. Stress. Lots of stress. I read old mysteries from the Gutenberg project to de-stress. I have had a few poachers, but haven't laid eyes on them. They wear full camo including face paint. I've smelled them. Then I threaten them and tell them to get the 🤬 off my property, Now! I'm very scary.👺 The things on them that I smell hurt me terribly. There used to be a lot more. I'm slowly whittling down the numbers year after year.
I enjoyed everyone's posts. Patricia, we have Western Tanagers. I've seen them, and caught one on a game cam once. They are amazing. I didn't know they where a cardinal. Interesting. The crows are noisy this time of year, but don't hang around camp as I don't feed them or leave anything out... it would attract bears. I've seen more bear scat nearby this year than previously. There are a lot more coyotes, and they're much bolder. I've neither heard nor seen the wolf pack. Don't know why.
Thats about it for me. I need to get back to cutting wood today. Have a very good day.
I imagine the wood cutting days are getting few, as the need for the wood nears. As a teen ager, many years ago, I did my share of it. We did things then that would no longer be legal to ask kids to do.
If you are noticing that the site is slow, Michael is aware of it, and is looking into it.
Rick, maybe if the youth of today was given responsibilities instead of just being handed money, the youth of today wouldn't have time or energy to get into all that mischief. Not all fall under that catagory but a lot do. As you can see it didn't hurt you to do that work. :)
Good morning, same old regimen here other than an afternoon haircut. I usually cut my own, but then need every once in a while to even it out. We had an old fashion childhood back in the fifties. Mom had the inside while dad took care of the outside, while the three of us kids crewed for both.
Dad hunted in the fall, fished in the summer, and we had the next acre lot set as a garden. Both parents also had full-time jobs, and we kids had school as well as either housework or yard work. Both parents came from long time farming backgrounds and large families, and that's all we knew.
I wouldn't say it was better or worse than what kids have now. My nieces and nephews are adults and work full-time jobs, so somebody did something right.
Amy, we ate what was on our plates, except we were each allowed one exemption, which was liver across the board. So, if it was pickled, we ate it without a fuss, but took as small a helping we could and get away with it. Of course, if we were at another table, we ate what was offered and thanked them for their hospitality.
OK — these two letters take up a lot of space in our everyday conversations and serve a variety of uses. "How are you?" "OK" (for small talk and pleasantries). "Can you pick up the kids after work?" "OK" (for quick agreement). "How was the movie?" "OK" (implying ambivalence or even distaste). What started off as an initialism — an abbreviation in which the letters are pronounced individually — has evolved into one of the most widely used words in American English, and the subject of entire books (Allan Metcalf's The Improbable Story of America's Greatest Word).
In a similar fashion to how 21st-century text speak plays with punny spellings (LOLZ), mid-1800s newspaper editors would often write with misspellings and then create acronyms from those "mistakes." The Boston Morning Post, for example, used "OW" to stand in for "oll wright" (meaning "all right"). Not all of these alternate spellings took hold, but an 1839 satirical article about grammar included an intentional misspelling of "oll korrect," and the course of American English was changed.
The Presidential Roots of "OK"
Around the same time, President Martin Van Buren was on his 1840 reelection tour with the campaign nickname of "Old Kinderhook," which referred to his New York hometown. Campaign organizers picked up on the Boston newspaper's use of "OK," and turned it into a slogan — "OK is OK." Around the country, "OK clubs" sprung up to promote the President's reelection. Unfortunately, the slogan was easily co-opted by the opposition, with nicknames such as "Orful Konspiracy" and "Orful Katastrophe." After incumbent Van Buren lost the election, the connection to his campaign faded away, but the usage for "oll korrect" continued to expand.
The Kraze for K
Since the mid-1800s, "OK" has been through many edits as writers have dropped and added periods, elongated it to "okay," and explored other spelling variations. President Woodrow Wilson used the spelling "okeh" to sign off on documents — this version comes from the spelling of a Choctaw word that sounds similar to "OK" and means "it is so."
The popularity of the smacky and final "k" sound represents a greater trend in advertising to prioritize "k" over "c" whenever possible, even at the expense of changing actual spellings. It was called "the kraze for K," outlined in 1925 by Louise Pound, who pointed to President Andrew Jackson's advisers referring to the cabinet as the "Kitchen Kabinet."
While it seems to be primarily American English in origin, the term has variations in many languages, most with a sense of confirmation. The Scots say och aye for "yes, indeed," the Greeks have ola kala for "everything is well," and the Finnish use oikea for "correct, exact."
Confirming Receipt as Quickly as Possible
In 1844, the telegraph was invented, and the two-letter "OK" strengthened as a fast and easy way to communicate via the new technology. The letters became a standard response to confirm a transmission was received. Its punchiness gave folks the ability to quickly convey that everything was "all right" or "good to go," but in fewer characters.
Not everyone loved the fun, catchy word, though. Many 19th-century writers, including Mark Twain and Bret Harte, steered away from its use, and Little Women author Louisa May Alcott used it once in the original 1868 draft of the book, but switched from "I'm OK with that" to "I'm cozy with that" in the next version.
Losing a Letter, and Gaining Some Attitude
"OK," in recent use, isn't always innocent and agreeable. In texting, messaging, and on social media, it's often shortened to "k" and can be interpreted in a variety of ways, thereby increasing its allure. A brisk and solo "k" can indicate some irritation, or an abrupt end to a conversation where there's perhaps more to be said later. It also easily conveys sarcasm, in place of "sure" or "yeah, right," such as when a teenager says they cleaned their room and the parent says "k" in a highly doubtful tone. In fact, ending a text conversation with just a "k" and not a "sounds good" and a friendly emoji can be disconcerting for the recipient. In recent years, tone-aware texters have doubled up with "kk" to show that they are, in fact, saying "OK" without any hint of sarcasm. Think of it as "OK's" friendlier little cousin.

Good Night Everyfriend!
I read everything and I feel like I went to school instead of visiting with friends! There was so much "information" in the passages that I thought I was in class. I know I'm not going to remember all that for the upcoming exam!
Tomorrow, I'll be finishing getting ready to visit my sister. I told Frankie to go straight home and get herself ready and then come an pick up Cooper and me for the trip! She liked that plan! My suitcase is packed and about the only thing left for me to pack is the computer. I figure I'll do that sometime after lunch tomorrow so I won't be on after I pack. I'll try to make a short visit in the morning and that will be it until I get to Margie's and get set up.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow! Do as you darn well please. The time is yours. Make it count!
Quote from: JaneS on September 17, 2025, 08:15:26 PMThe time is yours. Make it count!
It all counts - no matter what you do.
Jane, enjoy the trip and visit.
Goodnight - should anyone show up here.
Good morning.
We are heading back into the uncomfortable weather, 44° at the moment.
Picking up a few things in town then getting to do DD again,or still or whatever. :2funny: The robins have the top half of the Mountain Ash tree bare of berries.
Jane, you and Margie will have a lot of catching up to do. :)
Patricia, what a great bargain! I love the prints!
Time to get this day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This will probably be my last entry for a bit. I'm going to be shutting down the computer and packing it up to take with me to my sister's house.
I'm all packed and ready to go! I can hardly wait to spend some time with Margie. We grew up sharing a bedroom and knowing just about everything about each other. When she got married and moved to the Harrisburg area, I really missed her but I loved her new husband. I told him that I always wanted a brother in my life and he was it! I told him I would never call it a brother-in-law! He was my brother! He loved that and he called me his "sister"!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that! We're the curious type!
I'm closing down the computer so I can pack it to go with me to my sister's house. I wish you all well! I do wish I knew who it is who lives in Mechanicsburg. I would have tried to find you to greet you face-to- face. I'll be open down there tonight, tomorrow, Saturday and part of Sunday if you want to let me know! Bye bye for now to Everyfriend!
 Goodnight anyone
Good morning..
Another busy day here, picking up a half bushel of tomatoes to do down. Once they are done I hope to put the canning pots away!
This week has gone by in a blur it seems. Only 11 more days after today and we are into Oct!
Jane, hope you had a safe trip to your sisters.
Rick....good morning.. :cup:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning. It is a pretty morning here but supposed to be very warm today. Summer does not want to give up. Beginning to look like Fall but doesn't feel like it.
I have an Amazon order coming and a grocery order but nothing beyond that. I would like to use up some potatoes so might make some more soup, if David will be my "fetcher".
Take care, All.
Good morning
We may have had frost in some areas, our temp is 28° at the moment.
Putting away 24 pints of tomatoes and laundry today...then rest!
Crows are still coming for food and now I even have the neighbour talking to them, :) Didn't hear the fox last night so maybe it has moved on.
Phyllis , any kind of soup is good, hope you got your "fetcher" to help you. We had scalloped potatoes the other night and I can see the leftovers going into a potato soup.
Better get the day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Every one's gone today. I'll just hide in the corner.
Pst, Rick. I'm in here, hiding behind the radiator. I guess I should introduce myself to the younger folks, like OLM. Congratulations on capturing a sane doctor.
I don't see well enough to get the font of a decent size, but I can try.
Happy Equinox at 2:19 tomorrow.
Hello Sasha. Long time no see. As you can probably tell our numbers are dwindling. Get the sight fixed. We need you here. I'm getting my eyes checked in a month or so, and I think I have a cataract job pending. One eye has been done. Now the other wants equal treatment.
Fill us in on what you've been up to.
Good morning.
We had rain overnight as there are puddles in the driveway!!
Busy day yesterday ,more than I wanted. Today is finishing emptying the water tote and get the fish out, that should be entertaining. Will pull all the frosted plants and clean up more trugs.
Rick, peek a boo I see you!! Thank you for holding the fort down. My friend just got his one eye done and is going for the second in Oct. He is so pleased with the results!
Sasha, welcome. Hope you do come back and you can increase the font all you want.
Better get busy..
Enjoy your day and stay safe

That seems to be the usual case. Everyone says "I should have done it years ago".
Hi, Sasha. I am glad you are back.
Goodnight
Goodmorning
Good Noon Day to you all! It is sunny and 80o. We are expecting rain this evening.
I've had a lovely lunch of tuna and pasta salad. The company that made the salad uses only tuna that is pole and line caught. The product is certified through GRAEGA which is located in Lugo, Spain. The best I can say about this organization, so far, that their certification if for natural, sustainable products. I can't tell much because the only things I can find are all in Spanish. Anyone know anything about the organization? Just curious since I am unfamiliar with organic and sustainable certifications in other parts of the world.
I know nothing about GRAEGA.
The other day I as watching one of the Mississippi Locks in operation, and thought I left a link here - but - it's no where. So here's one I ran across and saved.
Marine Traffic (https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-85.5/centery:39.9/zoom:5)
Here's the Lock I was looking at.
Lock #19 (https://www.startpage.com/do/dsearch?q=Mississippi+Lock+%2319&cat=web&language=english)
https://streamtimelive.com/
Streamtime lIve has a live cam at Keokuk, but today for some reason, it is telling me the channel is private. ? ? ? Click on "Current Cams" at the top corner for many more cams.
It shows PRIVATE to me also. My link above your post for LOCK #19 is for Keokuk, and opens up OK. But today their camera seems to be OOS (Out Of Service).
After 22 long days I finally have a working computer (Eytan sent me his old one!).
I missed you all and almost collapsed with withdrawal.
Bubble welcome back!!! We missed you!!
Good morning ..
May be in for more rain and t-storm today. Hope no power outage as I need to do some baking.
Leaves are putting their Fall gowns on and they are so pretty..not looking forward to the pine trees dressed in white lace(snow) though.
Jane and Patricia, where are you??
Shasha your cat looks just like the one they had next door!! CAllie was 18 yrs old when she passed.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, you didn't send that rain this way, did you? It's due here this evening. But I suppose we can use it.
Bubble...
...glad to see you back and thank you for your email, i was just about to post and paste your message but i see you are now back with us...yes computers, as the well known saying goes, " we cant live with them, we cant live without them "
Quote from: RAMMEL on September 24, 2025, 08:52:22 AMAmy, you didn't send that rain this way, did you? It's due here this evening. But I suppose we can use it.
Rick , can always use rain in short measures. Our grass didn't make a comeback after the dry summer. In some shaded areas it is but the whole front and back yard are burnt.
The tomato plants that were pulled have 1/4 inch thick roots and long on them!! Gathered those and the vines up ready to go to the dumpwhen open. They are still not taking wood/pine needles and once they open that part up more trees/saplings will come down.
Ready to finish off the baking tomorrow...I hope.
Thanks for the rewelcome. There'll be no eye improvement, unless I believe the endless ads on Facebook. Wet AMD left, dry AMD right, and a serving of glaucoma all round.
Two cats left of the millions, and lots of little markers in the yard. Those of you who remember The Living Room (who is now The Other Bedroom) will be pleased to hear that being 80 is treating her reasonably well. It has to: she's the designated driver!
Today they say will be the day autumn strikes us with big-time thunderstorms; this morning we gave in to A/C one last time.
Hope to be less inner-directed next time. TTYS.
Halftime now, so have some time to grab a snack. Goodnight anyone, see you all tomorrow.
Good morning..
Another busy day here with the last of the canning. Will can the 20 lbs of potatoes and then hide my equipement till next year!
More outside work needs to be dne before winter, wonder what it would be like if one had nothig to do??
Sasha,we were to have t-storms but ended up with a soft rain.I have heard of some wells going dry but so far we are lucky.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Sasha -
Look for a PM from me, a little later this morning.
Say "Hi" to The Living Room, from me!
Light rain falling , may get a storm, we shall see.
Canning is done, not all put away ,that if for tomorrow..plus putting the canning gear into hiding.
Talked with Jane and she misses you. She tries to post what she has written and it dissapears on her. She is going to get her daughter to help her.
Enjoy your evening.
So nice to see Sacha and others posting. I posted this in Norm's and decided to repost here.
It's coming for you...
Speaking of snow, I do live just inside the Arctic; weather report from Thursday, the 25th, FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The first widespread snow event of the season blanketed parts of the Final Frontier this week, signaling that winter is fast approaching.
Snowfall was reported along the Eastern Alaska Range, including Isabel Pass, where upwards of 7 inches of snow fell.
The frozen precipitation was significant enough that National Weather Service meteorologists issued a Winter Weather Advisory and said travel could be difficult along roadways such as the Richardson Highway.
Forecasters said snow levels dipped to around 1,200 feet - the lowest so far this season - but not low enough to impact more populated areas around Fairbanks, the state's second-biggest city, which sits at an elevation of about 400 feet.
This was not the first time snow has been reported during the second half of the year, but it is widely considered the most impactful so far.
Frozen precipitation has occurred off and on along the Brooks Range since mid-August, but because of the terrain, there has often been little disruption.
The recent snowfall even led to a dusting at lower elevations of Denali National Park, one of the largest NPS sites in the country.
Then, on Sunday, the 28th forecast, 38°Hi
Intermittent snow and flurries in the morning; otherwise, remaining cloudy and cold
In a usual time, we receive our first snow around the last two weeks of October.
However due to a serious lack of humidty, a full day of snow would be seen as a dusting of snow by others.
:cup: :walking2: :walking2: :melt:
Good morning..
Yup still morning 11:56 . Been putting things away laundry, cooking dog food and feeding crow !
Patricua,if we get the winter others have been talking about, a warm one we will have wet snow :( Mr .S B doesn't like that!
Crows are hollering, better go feed them.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Can you spray parts with Non-Stick Spray?
I agree with Rick. If you can't coat your snow blower blades with ceramic than use a ceramic nonstick spray to coat them as needed
can i spray my sticky parts so they work better, too? :2funny:
:) Phyllis
Rick, I will try that, thank you. When the snow is like that even the neighbour has a problem with his plow truck. Only way for him to do it is just take small swaths of snow. When I can't handle that snow the neighbour , bless his heart will plow our driveway.
Patricia, guess I want the colder weather that gives us fine easy snow to remove.
Phyllis, I think soaking in a warm bathtub filled with a non stick solution might help.

Phyllis, if you figure out how to do that, be sure to come back here and fill us in on how to do it too. You'll hear us cheering from where ever you might be.
When there must be snow I prefer the medium (wet) snow. Powder doesn't like to stay on the shovel, and blows all over. Wet snow is just plain HEAVY.
Good morning.
Foggy out! Temp is 51° at the moment and no rain in sight.
A day of welcomed rest here! Just may scare my sewing machine and get something started.
Patricia, is the snow there light as you don'tseem to get the humidity to make it wet?
Rick , snowblower handles everything but the heavy wet snow.. hope we both get snow that is easy to remove.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Yes, very light. The only time it can be heavier is when there is more, and it packs down and freezes. Speaking of that, we had snow, a light dusting, beginning overnight.
The leaves are still on the trees! Normally we have our first snow during the last two weeks of October! 🥶
Just check in before shutting down the computer for the night.
This evening I am thinking of MaryPage and PatH2 and wondering if anyone knows how they are doing? I do miss them. Does anyone know if they have gotten everything moved to her their home? I forget, was it Flagstaff or Phoenix? Thinking of OLM, isn't that spraying due soon or has it already. I know it was getting close. Hope you are okay, OLM.
:hugs: Everybody!
Happy quiet Sunday evening. MarilynE, do you get an alert when you get a Dm? If not, here's an alert.
I, too, have been thinking of MaryPage. And several others, no longer with us. So glad to have y'all here now.
Blessings also on the iPad and Libby. Back to The Pretender.
Good evening everyone,
Its been a tough month for me. I got notice from the last lawyer at the last minute that he wouldn't be taking my case because of "Oregon's Right to Farm and Forest Act." Which is uninformed on his part. It said right on the Depart of Ag's website (pesticide ) practices are not protected if they harm people, neighbor's crops livestock, etc. But you can't make anyone take your case. I pivoted to trying everything else I could think of. No good. I made sure I stocked up on every herbal, homeopathic and supplemental remedy that's had efficacy. The timber company was due to spray the following week. I postponed my doctor visit, as he couldn't get here in time, and Ron and I decided on the plan with the best chance of surviving, with the least amount of damage: I precipitously moved everything in the RV into the unfinished Tiny House. Normally it take me 2 weeks to move into or out of the RV. I feverishly managed it in 2 very long days. Ron heroically jury-rigged power, sewer (Rhino's), and water (50 gal. Garbage can with a lid, and a battery powered pump). He bought and plumbed a laundry-tub for a sink, built a platform and mounted the RV style toilet, wired in lights and switches and ran 30 amp wire from the RV pedestal, in the same 2 days. The dogs and I are incarcerated, only going out briefly for them to do their business morning and evening. Then we decontaminate when we come back in. Its been a pretty sick, debilitated time, but it's been far better than I hoped for. The Tiny House is sealed far and away better than the RV, and its insulated (plus vapor barrier). We're camping.
We're through the initial exposure, I think. I don't know if we've seen the worst of it yet. It continues to volatize for 5 weeks or more depending on the chemicals. We have 4 weeks to go. We are expecting a week of rain, starting tomorrow. That may wash it down into the watershed - :buck2:
At least Rosie has regained control of her bladder and bowels, and is keeping her food down again. The pesticide gave Kato some monsterous headaches, which caused a return of periods of aggression. He's doing better, though he's tired of staying inside. There is not one system in my body that is not smitten. I'm thankful that I'm currently clawing my way back. We just have to stay in as much as possible and not add to the damage.
Enjoyed reading your posts. Hoping to respond to them tomorrow.
Just a quick good morning to wish all s&f friends good health and good day.
Hello Phyllis, good to see you - a familiar face from old Senior Net. It brings back good memories.
Health and serenity to you!
Good morning, Phyllis, and Bubble, hope you both are having, as Lloyd used to say, a day just as you like it.
Well, here I am, trying one more time to visit my friends. Alls well in my home. Tomorrow, Frankie is coming and were doing supper together and she's going to spend the night. I sure hope everyhing works out the way we're planning!
Today was a busy day. Cooper was here and we did two walks and time in the yard. He had his breakfast here and took some good naps. I did some laundry, hung out on the computer, cleaned up the kitchen, emptied waste baskets, made some necessary phone calls, and oh my, that took some time! And there was some other stuff but my mind is not working well.
Now I'm just about ready to hit the haystack. Cooper will be here about 5:45 so his mommy can get to work by 6! And I always try to be up and dressed and have my breakfast before he gets here.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. I'm going to lunch with one of my former classmates, my daughter Cathy and my friend's daughter who was Cathy's classmate! I haven't seen her in ages and I'm sure I'll enjoy it! Hope your day is as great as mine!
Goodnight to anyone who might drop in. Assuming all will go well, be back tomorrow.
