Jeanne Lee--When I have to attach a new nose piece,  it hurts until it adjusts to my structure.  I don't wear glasses or have hearing aids, but when the canula is new, it hurts--again until it adjusts.

Lloyd--I am sure you are glad to be going home.  Take things very easy until you get used to the new equipment and medicine.

Janie--Guess you had to be very careful what you ate until you healed.

Callie--Chicken flavored hot water isn't very filling.:)

June--Glad you were up and about today.

Shirley--You sure have an activity filled weekend coming up.

Beverly--I guess Metaprolol is used for a variety of heart problems.  Too bad Chape didn't to to an oral surgeon for his extractions.  We did get a couple rain showers.

Hi angelface.

halkel--That would be terrible if there had been an accident with a brand new car.

Beverly, I can associate with how your good husband is feeling about now.  I too went through a siege similar to his in the dental chair. It can be very, very draining, and leave many dreaded memories behind. I hope he keeps resting so he can properly recover.

Hal, I'm thanking God that the idiot that could have caused a serious accident for you and your wife did not manage to do so. I just can't figure why some people can be so ignorant as to take chances driving on wet roads and be so  careless.

Patricia, now that is one BIG pumpkin.I wonder how many pies that would make.

Bis, I wonder if it would help to heat the canula with hot water before it is insertered, that may soften the plastic ? a bit before it is inserted and adjust to the individual nose channel ? Yes, Bis, I don't want to just lay around like a lump so i try to do something more active..like participating here.

Mycheal, it is so good to see you, and know you are O.K. How has your weather been in your area of Iowa ? I am much happier with the climate in  Orange Co. than I was in the Hemet area. I still miss my good friends at Sunwest Village, but am making some very welcome acquaintances here at Rowntree Gardens.

Well my dear friends, it is time to bid you all Goodnight and go relax with my books. May you all have a blessedly peaceful night and a happy, health filled tomorrow. I love you all heaps and bushels and pecks. God Bless and keep safe. June

To all of you who commented on Kiran's apology...it's more important to me than anyone knows.  This little gal lacks for nothing.  She is an only child and a long awaited one by my son.  He wanted nothing more than to be a "DADDY" for a long long time and he is a very good one but also an indulgent one.  She is also the only girl grandchild on the one side of her mother's family and the only grandchild on the other side of her mother's family.  All of her cousins on this side were pretty well grown up when she came along.  I think I might be the only one who doesn't indulge her because I simply can't afford it.  She is made to mind and to do chores at home and she does them without comment most of the time although like most kids this age she strikes bargains.  Apologizing was a major step forward.  She had apologized before but mostly after being told to do so.  This time was totally her own!  I think we are beginning to really know one another!

Now I'm also off to bed!  I wish you all a peaceful rest and a happy awakening.  May God bless us every one!

Marilyne

I received an email from Kelly, asking me to please copy and post the following message on Norm's B&T, Soda Shoppe and the Games Board.

Dear S&F members

It is over four months since I posted on seniors and friends, because of health issues.  When I am able to return I cannot say, but in time I will post again if on a much reduced basis than I used to.

I now live in the United Kingdom in a community helping with health matters.  Replying to members by emails is not possible at the moment for me because of these health matters and my inability to use voice recognition.

I am unable to access S&F as I have lost my username and password.  If anyone has asked about me, I thank you.

Regards

......thank you, good to know Kelly is at least still alive,....and yes, I had been thinking along those lines in all seriousness.....

LLOYD HAMMOND.....
...I know you have your reasons, ie, financial, and I know I wont be thanked for this comment but, I wish you would " retire gracefully, " and start enjoying the rest of your life with Nancy, instead of spending it in and out of those hospital beds.....If you are not careful...that farm will be the death of you...and nobody wants that..

CHUCKLES

This House

"This house," said the real estate salesman, "has both its good points and its bad points. To show you I'm honest, I'm going to tell you about both.
The disadvantages are that there is a chemical plant one block south and a stockyard one block north."

"What are the advantages?" inquired the prospective buyer.

"The advantage is that you can always tell which way the wind is blowing."

Food For Thought

Purity

By John Kuperus
Scripture Reading: Judges 16:1-22

[Samson] did not know that the Lord had left him.
Judges 16:20
The story of Samson in the book of Judges is full of intrigue. Looking at Samson’s story can give us great insights into how his private life affected his public life as a leader of God’s people.
Samson had a specific calling, to lead in the deliverance of Israel from the enemy Philistines. He was also to be a Nazirite, which meant he was not to touch alcohol, his hair was never to be cut, and he was not to do anything unclean. All of this meant he was specially set apart to serve the Lord. (See Judges 13:1-5.)
But Samson did not lead a pure life. He ate honey from the carcass of a lion, making him unclean. He slept with a prostitute. Then he fell in love with a Philistine woman, and she tried to learn the secret of his great strength. Eventually she wore him down, and he revealed that his hair had never been cut. When she cut his hair, “his strength left him.” The Philistines then blinded him and made him a slave, for “the Lord had left him.”
What we do in private makes an impact on all the areas of our life. We need to come clean before the Lord, asking for forgiveness and resolving to live in a way that shows we are God’s people.
Is God at the center of your private life as well as your public life?
Father, nothing is hidden from you. Help us to learn from Samson’s story that we need to be faithful to you. Give us a discerning heart to follow you in all areas of our life. In Jesus, Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Lots of people "beat me up" this morning!  Funny!  I don't feel "beat up"!  :)

So happy to hear from Kelly!  Just as with the rest of you, I was very worried about him and like Jackie, I was fearing the worst.

Lloyd, might you be able to rent part of your farm to someone who wants to farm and that would generate some income for you so you could relax and enjoy life a bit.  I'm sure you have always enjoyed being outside and doing the work you did but you could still do some of it on a smaller scale.  It's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

All I have on my agenda today is to ride along with my daughter Cathy to Williamsport (about a half hour) to my cousin's house.  She has inherited an antique settee that used to belong to my Great Aunt Dolly and is picking it up today.  A time to spend with my daughter and a visit with a favorite cousin.  Always a special event to spend time with family...especially a cousin I hardly ever get to see.

I hope you all have a day as special as mine will be.

The storm has moved on past us.  I'm pretty tired of non-stop rain.  The wind wasn't too high but did bring down a couple of limbs that hit the deck and made me jump.

Beverly, thank you very much for that information.  It is very reassuring and I'll find out more about it on Wed. when I see the cardiologist.

Glad to get news of Kelly but sorry to hear that he is having even more health issues.  I hope that he will improve and be able to get back here soon.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hope you are following doctor's orders.

Amy--Good morning.  Yikes--39°.  We very seldom get that low here.  If it goes below 60° I switch from a/c to heat.  I'd guess you have your winter clothes out.

Good morning, Janie.  Glad you don't feel "beat up".:)  Enjoy your time with family today.

Phyllis--Good morning.  You are getting too much rain, and we are not getting enough.  Weather is sure fickle.  I hope those limbs that hit the deck didn't do any damage.

Good Morning Everyone!

Lloyd nice to see you up and about.  Hope you start to feel better in short order.

Janie, hope you don't try loading that furniture.  Some of that old furniture can weight a ton.

Joanie, did you get enough rain or just the short showers?  I know you all were so dry.

Coffee is ready.

JaneS

Hal, not much chance of my loading furniture.  This is the "worry-wart" daughter who works for the Agency on Aging.  It's not likely that she'll even let me hold the door.

Good morning, halkel.  All we got is a few short showers.  Northern Florida really got socked.

Good Morning,

If I have to be awakened at 7:08 a.m.,  I'd rather be "stirred not shaken" (to paraphrase James Bond).
A 5.6 earthquake hit northern Oklahoma at that time and rattled things all over Oklahoma and in surrounding states.
Shirley probably felt it as much or more than I did.
The two Grands at Oklahoma State in Stillwater are pretty close to the epi-center but I haven't seen a Facebook comment from either of them.

Marilyne,  thanks for the message from Kelly.  I wish the best for him in his new circumstances.

Lloyd,  so glad to see you posting again.  I also wish you the best and hope this is just a temporary set-back.

Guess I'll get the day started - although I don't yet know what I'm going to do with it.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Thank you both Amy and Jane S for backing me up, re, Lloyd and Kelly...

Well I have no Idea what is happening here....Another hospital referral letter has dropped though my door, not exactly been expecting any....This is another Diagnostic Imaging Department....stating an appointment has been made for this Thursday to have US Pelvis TA and Transvaginal at the same hospital I had my last set just a month or two ago....Of course being a Saturday, I cant get in touch with either the phone number on my letter, nor my GP surgery to find out if this was sent out by mistake or whether my local doctor had ordered it, if so, she never mentioned it....Now I have to wait till Monday, three days before app, date....I can only assume this has been sent out as part of my November Urology appointment...Why cant previous notes be forwarded on? so that they are made aware of what if anything has already been done, and of course its results......

LARRY HANNA....my office chair is on a swivel back, as long as I am laying back I feel safe but, I have fallen asleep when perched forwards, my head has at times pinged forwards towards the desk, and at a force, so just missing hitting it....and I have just stopped short of falling off my chair...

JaneS

Joanie, you are exactly right!  Cathy is kind and considerate and thoughtful, too.  That's why she's so good at her job!  All the Seniors love her!

Hi everyone from a soggy but cool South Carolina.  We had 3 inches of rain yesterday as it rained without stopping for about 12 hours.  Today we have blue skies and a temperature of 67 with a high of only 84 predicted for this afternoon.

I did go back yesterday afternoon and had the ultrasound done, which took all of maybe 10 minutes.  I had attended to do some cooking when I got home but just wasn't feeling up to it and so we settled for a scrambled eggs, green onions, bacon bits and cheese for dinner with some fresh cantaloupe.  It actually made a very good meal and I am sure we will have it that way again.

Today I will go to COSTCO for more items, including a big block of cheddar cheese that I need to make the sausage muffins for Pat's breakfast and a few other items.  Then I plan to get some cooking done and get things in order for our dinner tonight.  I will watch some college football this afternoon and then this evening Georgia plays so may watch a little of that game.  I was shocked to find yesterday morning that South Carolina had come back with 55 seconds left to beat Vanderbilt as didn't have a good first half and I had turned it off then.  The pro football season starts next week.

If you haven't seen Pat's posting on Facebook I will share with you all that she spent 8 hours in the ER Thursday night.  Fortunately Paul was there with her.  She did not say the reason for the trip to the ER.

Joan, it was my fault about the fasting as had just forgotten which appointment that I was to fast for as have another appointment with the doctor on Tuesday where they will do blood testing before and I was thinking I needed to fast for that test.  Glad your property wasn't damaged by the storm.  I wonder how ShirleyN survived the storm as apparently Tallahassee was hit.  We have friends from our Sunday School class who moved to Pensacola about two weeks ago.  I sure hope they and their families there are OK.

Lloyd, glad you are home and were able to survive another scare with the blood clot.  That is serious business.  You were not forgotten but time passes so quickly anymore that several days can pass before I realize someone is missing.  Glad you have the laptop to use. Glad you didn't have to spend the holiday weekend in the hospital.

Amy, another 80% off sale on fabric.  How can you stand it?  :)

Shirley, I really don't know what the doctor is expecting to see on the ultrasound.  At least it will be another part of me checked out.

Beverly, I think my wife takes the Metaprolol for her fast heart beat and can really tell the difference if she misses a dose.  I do hope Chape hasn't been in too much pain with the teeth extractions.  Also glad you missed any damage from the Hurricane.

Hal, the almost accident must have really scared you all.  That would not have been a nice thing to happen to your wife's new car much less any damage to the passengers.

Callie, you all are having way too many earthquakes.  When I lived there in the 60's for two years I don't remember ever having an earthquake.

JoanFL

Good morning, Callie.  Glad you had no damage from the earthquake and sorry you were shaken awake.  I hope your grands near the epi-center are OK.

Vanilla-Jackie--Seems your medical caregivers are not in sync with you and your appointments.

Janie--How lucky the folks are at your daughter's workplace to have her.

Good morning, Larry.  I saw on the National news that your are had lots of rain.  You are becoming a great meal planner and cook!!  I saw Pat's post on Facebook and wondered why she had to go to the ER.

Have had a report from the Dad of the two OSU Grands.

The house where Miss Emily lives shook a lot.

Grandson (Carson) "thought" he'd slept through it.  ;D

The mother of one of his roommates is a friend of the family and had texted them to ask Carson to have her son call because he wasn't responding to texts and phone calls.
Carson said,  "Right now??  He's snoring really loud!"   Mom laughed when she got the report.

Miss Ellen had posted on Facebook that it woke her up in Tulsa.

Reports are that it was felt in surrounding states.

I've already mentioned that Shirley (in Kansas) may have felt something.

Lloyd,  Your town in Missouri isn't that far from the Oklahoma border. Did you feel anything?

I hope Hurricane Hermine isn't bothering any of the Soda Shoppers -or other S&F friends.

Onward and Upward.

JoanFL

Callie--Thanks for the report on grands and their friends.  I, too, hope all our friends are safe.

June Drabek

Janie, I am so happy for you, and the incident that occurred with our sweet Hooligan. She needs you in her life of many induigences. She is learning early that there are more than one side of things in all of life, and that is a wonderful lesson. My Susie was an only child on all sides of the family, with a rather wealthy Auntie, till her little brother was born, and she found the world did not circulate around her only. There was competition between the two of the little ones, till the third one came into the picture, then the first two joined hands. I wish I could have had three more.

Patricia, thanks for the info. I thought it would be much more than forty pies, but when you consider there are also seeds, membrane and heavy rind, I guess it would take much more that a standard Halloween pumpkin to make a pie. Mine always came in a can.

Marilyne , thank you  so much for the report on Kevin Kelly. I am sorry his conditioned has worsened, but we can always hope for improvement.

Bis, I can associate with "The House". I lived behind the stock yards in Chicago for four years, and there were days when the stench was horrible. We were SO delighted to be transported back to sunny, smoggy, So. Ca.  And now even the smog has cleared to a great degree.

Lloyd, My Mom had an oxygen machine like yours with the long cord. You do have to be very cautious as to where you step, but it at least gives you the freedom to move from one area of the house to others. Do watch your step on the stairs. Too back they don't have an automatic retractable cord on those things, or do they now ?

Callie, 5.6 is a strong quake, I am sure there was a great deal of "shake, rattle and roll" going on. I do hope there was no great damage.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

June Drabek

I am so sorry to hear our Pat had to go to the E.R. Thank God that Paul was with her. Does Paul ever post in here ? I am seriously thinking of joining Facebook, even though my son Dan advised against it. What do those of you who belong think of my joining..yes or no ??
As long as we are here, let's dance.
