Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's blueberry muffins to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Winter Scene” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Medication

A distraught patient phoned her doctor's office. "Is it true," the woman wanted to know, "that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?"

"Yes, I'm afraid so," the doctor told her.

There was a moment of silence before the woman continued, "I wonder then, just how serious is my condition. This prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'."

Food For Thought

Reconcile With One Another
(By Steve Troxel)

Malachi served as a prophet to Israel about four hundred years before the birth of Jesus. He brought a message from God which reminded the people of His love, and rebuked them for their disrespectful worship. But through Malachi, God ended the Old Testament with a prophesy about future restoration.

Malachi 4:5-6
"I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

Just over four hundred years later, John the Baptist, "the Elijah who was to come" (Matthew 11:14), began to preach a message of repentance. The purpose of John's ministry was to prepare hearts for the coming of Jesus; "Prepare the way for the Lord" (Matthew 3:3). But according to Malachi, John would also cause the hearts of fathers and children to turn toward one another.

When the spiritual fellowship between man and God was broken, a basic void was formed in man's heart which led to a breakdown in his earthly relationships. The moment we lost the ability to walk in perfect harmony with God, we also became filled with self-importance and pride, and lost the ability to truly love one another; "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have {true} fellowship with one another" (1 John 1:7). Walking close to God, through faith in Jesus, allows us to walk close with others; "We love because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

God created us to be in fellowship with other people - even imperfect, hard to love people. Our quiet and peaceful times of study and prayer are essential for our Christian walk, but some of God's most important truths can [also] be learned as we stumble through difficult situations with others...[where] we learn the difficulty of true grace and forgiveness... and our own deep sin (like pride, jealousy, and anger) [can] be revealed.

Many relationships are filled with past pain - particularly the relationships between husband and wife, and parent and child - but God's Word still stands as truth. He has provided the path to restoration; a path which begins with repentance, requires the cleansing of sinful pride, and leads to true love and forgiveness.

Who do we need to reconcile with today? Full restoration requires the cooperation of both parties; but as a child of God, we can now cross the desert and begin to mend what is broken. Jesus died as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins in order that we may be reconciled with our Heavenly Father. He crossed ALL the way and completely mended our shattered heart! Let's walk in the light of His love and take the necessary steps to cross over and humbly reconcile with one another.

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's raining here today.  the temp is up to 35º with a predicted high of 40 and the rain has already started.  Not a pretty day for sure but better than snow or ice.

I had a restless night also due to an extremely dry mouth.  I was up at least 4 times to get a drink of water.  My mouth felt like I'd been sucking on a tennis ball all night.  I must be breathing through my mouth.  When I'm upright, my head doesn't feel all that clogged and I do feel a lot better.  In fact, I'm going to go to church this morning.

I hope you all have a lovely day full of whatever you wish.

Good morning everyone..

Looks like I shall have a date with the snow blower this morning. Yesterday I did the driveway plus trails in the back yard for the dogs. Also took a snow rake to the roof and brought down some snow....still snowing out there now too..
I made pastry yesterday so will get that into pies/tarts today. Put some chocolate chip cookies in the hidey hole too.

One load of laundry to fold and then I can play with the binding on dh's quilt... and that will be it for me today.

Jane, glad your feeling better. Do you have a humidifier you can put in your bedroom?

Phyliss that is what the trees look like here......so BEAUTIFUL!!!

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Lloyd, good morning :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I read your other posts before I opened this new Soda Shoppe.  Keep warm in that frigid weather.

Janie--Good morning.  Sorry your sleep was interrupted by a dry mouth.  Good to read you feel well enough to go to church.

Good morning, Amy.  Oh my--dancing with that plow is no fun.  I will check the "hidey hole".  Thank You.

LLOYD HAMMOND....
...so will you be doing some sun bathing today?...... ;)
............................................
Good Sunday morning Everyfriends....
...we have something Christmassy on later this evening, starts 5pm....Phyl our site manager slipped a note through all letterboxes asking us to tick whether we will be coming along, if he can get enough ticks it will go ahead, he has, and it will....It is Carol Singing, mince pies and mulled wine...with our opposite neighbour doing his entertainment, he is in the entertainment business of singing, although no one famous.... Our Carol Singing is to take place on site, at the bottom of our parkhome site, where as we turn right, then half circle to the left, there is a long corrugated open shed, no doors, just a roof, but large enough to hold several people...I will of course go down in Rs car, his suggestion, I know in the pitch darkness I wouldn't be able to walk it, even though such a short distance...I am debating on whether to take my rollator, if just for sitting as I dont think hanging onto Rs arm for the whole time would be feasible, especially if one of us wants to venture off to go speak to someone, although R is not a communicator, but I am...of course he will only be going for the foodstuff and drink, if there is anything else available apart from mince pies, as he doesn't eat mince pies, but I do...I have had two this morning already, I found the unopened packet yesterday... :boots: ...next step is to get this extra unwanted weight off in the new year...

Hi everyone on a beautiful 65 degree and so far sunny morning here in South Carolina.  We are to get up to 71 degrees around noon time. It was a very nice day here yesterday.  I watched my Alma Mater, Northwest Missouri State University win the Division II National Championship in football yesterday afternoon.  The game was being played in Kansas City, Kansas and it was extremely cold and the field was so covered with snow you couldn't even see the lines on the field.

I did have a productive day yesterday as got the Christmas wrapping done and took one box to the Post Office.  There were only about 8 people ahead of me and it didn't take more than 8-10 minutes before I was waited on as there were three clerks working.  I also got my Christmas Letter prepared and emailed.  Yesterday afternoon I made more sausage muffins for Pat and also made the peanut clusters that are so easy and so good.  Pat made them last year and they are very good although very sweet.  I plan on sharing some of them with my neighbors as the recipe makes about 4 1/2 pounds of candy.

I plan on a quiet day this afternoon.  I will go to Sunday School and Church but Pat will not be going as the gout isn't any better and her foot is swelling.  She plans on calling the doctor's office tomorrow.  I will bring home something for lunch then rest and watch football this afternoon.  One of the game this afternoon will be played in Chicago and I read that they expect it to be the coldest conditions in which a pro football game has ever been played.

Patricia, that eased my mind as wasn't sure about you ladies and that chocolates in the gift bags.

Joan, you sound like Pat in not liking to have to prepare a dish for a potluck.

Shirley, thanks for the info on the gout medicine.  Another of our posters here emailed me yesterday about the same drug that had been successful in keeping the gout at bay.  Pat did read yesterday that black cherry juice concentrate is sometimes used for gout.

Jenny, it would be hard for your DIL to turn down a BIG job offer.  It will give you a new place to visit and you won't have to deal with the O'Hare airport just Logan airport.

JaneS, I am the one who mentioned Amazon Customer Service. I did a quick Google search on the number to call for Amazon Customer Service.  This link may be helpful for you as I see different customer service numbers:
https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=number%20to%20call%20for%20amazon%20com%20customer%20service

I am going to have to sign off for today.  I have read all of the postings and just hope all of you in the very frigid weather can stay in and stay warm today.

Good Morning,

6 degrees on my patio this morning with a wind chill below zero.  It seems we had a 3.7 earthquake during the night.  What's next,  a tsunami????

I hate to miss the beautiful cantata at church this morning but I'm not sticking my nose out the door in this temperature - even if the sun is shining.

Janie,  Ricola Lemon-Herb lozenges help my dry mouth.  They aren't as sweet as candy but don't taste like cough drops.  They also come in sugar-free.

Yesterday, I finished dipping the MW candy balls.  There's some in the hidey-hole.  Help yourself.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Chilly again this morning after yesterdays snow, but now as bad as a couple of days ago,

Janie, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Amazon, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone in being disgusted with them.  I've had only one experience with Amazon, using a "free Prime trial" and I've never had such a hard time getting something straightened out.  I think (hope) everything is settled this week, after two months of exchanges by email and phone,  That was my first and my very last attempt at purchasing anything from them.

Thanks for the suggestions about something to suck on but I don't think I want to go to sleep with something in my mouth.  I'd be afraid of choking.  It isn't dry during the day for the most part but I must be breathing through my mouth at night.

JeanneLee, I'm afraid I'm giving up on Amazon, too.  And I'm going to tell them that.

Now I need to make a quick trip to WM.  My little ceramic tree has no lights.  (The bulb burned out) and I'm out of 1/2 and 1/2 for my coffee.  Stay warm everyone...except you, Larry..you better chill a bit!

Jane,  oh no - you definitely don't want to go to sleep with something in your mouth but, if you wake up at any point with a dry mouth - even a few minutes of the lemon-herb drop will help.
Don't mean to be doing commercials here - but Biotene has a mouth spray that helps.  You spray a few drops on your tongue and it works with your saliva to relieve the dry mouth.

Good morning, Larry.  They say we're to get to the high 80s today--highest ever recorded for this date.

Callie--Good morning.  The best place for you is right in your cozy house.  I'll go check the hidey hole.  Thanks.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  Seems I am hearing about several having problems with Amazon.  I've been ordering from them for many years and nary a problem.  Think they are getting too big?

Janie--Make a quick trip and then get back home where it's warm.[/color

Good morning everyone, 55° here this morning and raining and windy again. We did lose power last night about 30 minutes. Was answering emails and the TV was on and suddenly everything was black.  Sure glad I had a flashlight in reach. Lights in the hallway were on but the outside lights were off. Eerie feeling. First time since I have been here that the power went off like that. I finally got my Christmas cards done. Even brought down to the lobby to bring cards for those living here.  Found several for me there.  I have never been so late with them. Did go back to bed yesterday morning and woke near noon time. Last night I slept great. I really have been staying in here lately. When I went downstairs yesterday I saw a few others around and found out the lady who first welcomed me here had died last Sunday. I knew shw was in a nursing home  but did not know she was that ill. I really felt bad about that. She was a very helpful lady and if anyone needed a ride anyplace she would offer to take them.

SHIRLEY  Like your cats, I do not get enough exercise and might feel better if I did. I would love to use the machines in the exercise room but they are all to big. I got on the bicycle one once and could not s reach the pedals or the handle bars. I still think the one who designed this building was a tall man. There are 2 ladies and 4 men tall enough to use the machines. Shorties like us are the majority here. Breathing in the air as cold as it was here the other day is not good for anyone. I used ice pellets to melt the ice, no sodium in it and it works better than the salt. The maintenance man here uses it too. Does not kill the grass either.

LLOYD  there is always email keeping in touch with those on the other sides of the ponds. Times do not matter much with email.

JOY  congratulations on the new great granddaughter and wonderful that she has your name for her middle one.

LARRY  still amazing that tractor operator could sew anything while being behind the wheel.

I do not like pot luck meals either. If I am going out to eat I want to be served with the food I picked out and do not want to cook anything. One reason I only went down to the big kitchen for a potluck supper. I could not bring much for the meals but I could wash dishes. The lady who is the “boss” of that kitchen will sit there and tell everyone else what to do while all she did was give orders. I resent anyone telling me what to do or what to cook.

JOAN  we are not allowed to use ladders here and if a ceiling light goes out we have to get maintenance to change them.

JENNY  at least the weather in Boston will be a big change from what your son and DIL are used to.

JANE  my oldest son and his wife were married 10 years before she became pregnant. He always wanted a child and was good with little ones. She suggested adopting but he wanted one of his own. When my grandson was about 5 they did adopt a boy. They did not want their sone being an only child. The one they adopted -they were told he had medical problems and asked if they would accept him- they said if he was their own and had medical problems they would accept him. He has CP and is very smart but his body is not that great. He is a wonderful man these days.

PHYLLIS  love your graphic for this week. Reminds me of the first time I was on a snowmobile.

JOAN   will love a blueberry muffin this morning. Chuckles-that would have anyone being worried.  Food for Thought should have many thinking. Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  in the 50's here raining and windy.

AMY  sorry you have to play in the snow again.

JACKIE  take your rollator with you.  You will be better sitting on it that standing during the Carol singing. You bought the rollator to help you so use it all the time. You can try sending that unwanted weight to me, I sure can use it.

JANE  have you  tried those breathe right strips? They worked for me when I had a head cold and allowed me to breathe better.

CALLIE  I tried Biotene for a dry mouth and it made it worse. My daughter had the same problem with it.

Lloyd--It's too cold to be working outside.

Good morning, Gloria.  Smart on the part of your place not to allow ladders.  I have one--it's for others to use, as needed.  I always have a dry mouth.  My doctor told me it's from my medications.

I have a dry mouth sometimes, too but I attribute it to the eye drops I use for glaucoma.  Last night was different.  It actually woke me up it was so dry and it felt like I still had the tennis ball in my mouth.

I made my quick trip to WM and I got the cough drops Callie recommended and my 1/2 and 1/2 and some cream cheese.  I also got a replacement for the order that Amazon cancelled and a light bulb for my little ceramic tree.  Now it has lights!  And now I'm in the house to stay.  I'm determined to finish the wrapping and the cleaning today so I can enjoy tomorrow.  I sent Kiran a text asking her if she'd like to have supper at McDonalds and go shopping for a birthday present tomorrow.  I haven't had an answer yet but I'm pretty sure it will be a yes!

Good morning, checking in from the Interior. We are having a very snowy morning here and a weather alert today for "severe weather" with two inches of snow expected today! I know those of you in other states are shaking your heads and groaning at that news!  ;)

Jane, we could certainly do a Grinch proud, couldn't we? And I would bring a healthy appreciation for all those wonderful treats! I envy you for Kiran and the relationship you have with her. None of the nieces and nephews in the family have married or become parents, but my 24-year-old niece has just become engaged. Evidently, her fiance is 6'5 " and she isn't even 5' so I have begged my sister for a photo!

I have had dry mouth at times just on one side, so I must have been snoring? My ex used to say I snuffled at times.

We have outages here at times, but the hallways stay lit and the hallways inside of these apartments come on as well. They have emergency power in certain areas for those bedridden or needing oxygen as well. We do have high ceilings, and maintenance is to do any bulb changes.

I have heard folks say no animals on the furniture or none in the house. I have also heard others expound on the biblical theme that animals were put here to work for humankind and not as pets. One woman told me that animals were unsanitary. I noted she also was childless.

For myself, I take great joy in having cats and especially rescues. I know my parents did with dogs and cats and my sisters do as well with dogs and horses. In these apartments, living independently as we do, many have a cat or a dog or a bird.

They found some years back that hospitals and nursing homes cut further illness and depression rates by either having in house pets or coordinated animal visits. It is another of those "whatever floats your boat," and is right for you.

I use Amazon a lot and have had any issues quickly dealt with, but I believe that problems may be due to regional centers and outside contractors, as I know others have had complaints. I dealt with a company once who was well known for coffee sent monthly. They repeatedly assured me my account was canceled and regularly recharged for the following month. That took too much time and effort, and I have never dealt with them again.

Joy, what a great gift to have her middle name for you! It is an honor and a loving sign that your family love and effort is recognized and passed down.

Jackie take your rollator and enjoy your caroling; we have some expected next week; they roam the halls singing, and it is always appreciated.

Gloria, here the kitchens and any cleanup are commandeered by members of the hospitality committee. This building and others company owned are all run by member boards and committees outside of management and security, and maintenance.

I hope everyone everywhere stays warm, dry and comfortable and those sick rest and get better.

Farrah is again running about chasing down those imaginary enemies. I think we've been overrun, but she is putting up a valiant defense!

Have a great day!

Hello world, checking in from the studio. I had an interesting experience yesterday while shopping at the mall where I used to do my Santa gig. I was walking past the line where they were waiting to see the new Santa and a lady called to me and asked why I wasn't there because it was me they came to see. I explained the situation and somebody came over asked me to refrain from telling people that I was Santa at another mall. That was quite a surprise. Anyway, I proceeded to the grocery store for my shopping and while doing so the lady with whom I had been speaking earlier had come looking for me with her daughter and asked if her daughter could have her picture taken with me; it didn't matter that I wasn't in costume. So there we were, Santa out of costume having his picture taken with a lovely little girl who rewarded me with a hug.

Gloria and Patricia,

Yes, I feel quite honored to have this sweet little girl share my name.  It was quite a surprise when my grand daughter told me., She is my only grand daughter, having 2 older brothers.  She lived with me for several years when she was younger and has always been special,.  Unfortunately, I don't get to see her very often.  She did live in South Carolina, but recently move to Connecticut, to be closer to her brother, so she is quite a bit closer now.  Hopefully, when there is no more chance of snow,  My son, (her dad) and I will be able to go visit them.

Thank you for your nice comment.

I did take my rollator but I didn't need to sit on it, just hold onto it for steadiness but, what it did come in extra use for, was to stand my paper plate with mince pie and my glass of hot mulled wine on the seat, I knew it was worth taking it along... ;D

Our neighbour entertainers were very good, not only did we sing Carols but some Christmasy singalongs and the duo also sung some Elvis and other songs that we recognise, whilst some swaying and dancing was taking place, with me moving with the sway whilst holding onto to my walker....

For the first time in yonks I was out in my winter black long coat and my white fur hat....

It isn't in the condo by-laws, but many of us have indoor cats.  One woman has two dogs that she says are "service dogs".  I have no idea why she needs two.  In the summer, we hear them barking.  The Association tried to make her get rid of them but I think she got a lawyer to convince the Board they were necessary.  There's one in every crowd, isn't there?

We had a dog when I was young.  Actually, she was Norm's dog, but she was the "family" dog and was a Heinz variety.  We had her for about 10 years but by that time my mother had died and Dad said no more dogs until he retired.  By the time he retired, he and I were taking trips and having an animal was too much trouble, so we did not have another dog.  I have a cat because Annie can't have a cat where she lives; her landlord is very allergic to cat hair!

Don, that was an interesting experience at the mall yesterday and a great tribute to you.  I hope the kids keep you busy at your new mall.

Joy--Sure it's an honor to have the new great gd carry your name as her middle name.

Janie--Finlay's 10th birthday was Nov. 27.

Mary Ann--We had dogs all our growing up years.  Then when I married and we were raising our children we got a dog when Linda was 3 y/o.  We continued to have  them and the last one we had died a year before Ray did.  I'd LOVE to have a dog here, but fences aren't allowed, and my physical  condition prohibits walking a dog.

Good Sunday Afternoon, Everyone!

The extremely freezing cold snap has broken here,  so the temps inside my apartment are back up to normal...

Starting day after tomorrow the temps are going to be up in the 30's and 40's until after the New Year.

I sure hope that lasts,  as they are predicting a warmer Winter then Normal for us here on the East Coast.       (Finger's crossed!)

I hope that everyone is having a good day,  and will continue to do so.

I have one family's gifts all wrapped except for one thing that hasn't come yet.  When that comes, I just have to wrap it and add it to his bag.

Linedancer--Nice you had company.

Sandy--For your sake, I hope you do have a mild winter.

Janie--Happy Birthday to Kiran.  Doesn't it make you feel good to have all your gifts made/bought and wrapped except the one you're waiting for?

Actually, not everything is wrapped.  Only one family is done...two if you count the ones I sent to Texas already.  I have 3 families here to wrap for.  And, since I use my bed with a folding sewing cutter board on it for wrapping, I have to put everything away if I want to sleep in a bed.

I'm prepared to wrap the fruit cake for church at the dining room table where I can see the TV.  THE SOUND OF MUSIC is on tonight and I'll watch while I wrap.

Have a good evening Everyfriend!  Stay warm and dry, happy and well.

slow getting back today.very defferant Sunday for me. I finely had to take a bathroom space heater out and set it up on the toolbox on the side of the tractor. it done the job.  and Bis  the cows did not think it was to cold for me to get out and feed them. the ice was treachtrous. I almost ran over a calf they wouldn't get out of the way like the usually do. but i did get them fed. and by the time i got done feeding ( UN  role the big bales for them) the throttle was working freely. so after i was done I killed the tractor and put it up to a slow ideal position. so tomorrow I can start it weather or not it is stuck and start it. Have a great day and a better tomorrow.

I was in earlier, but didn't make it for very long. Bad day..not feeling well at all, but tomorrow will be better.

Gary and Dori were just here, he had a Communion service downstairs that I had forgotten all about. I could kick myself !
He brought me an iMac lap top computer. I hope my brain will still work well enough to operate it. he said it is just like desk top but he has to enter my personal stuff. They couldn't stay, had company coming. In the meantime I can play around with it and learn more about the actual use of it.

I had been feeling really ill, so skipped Church this morning and skipped life in general..did a bunch of sleeping..finally called downstairs, and asked a nurse to come take my vitals, which she did. Everything measured out quite well, so I felt better right away.

I told Gary I didn't want to take that Doppler test on my arteries, and he said, "You don't have to take it. You are still your own boss, and you do what you want to do. Just call downstairs tomorrow and tell them to cancel the whole thing". Which I will do. The tests do not cure anything, they only tell what has progressed. May help the Dr., but not me, so why should I put myself through  the journey and trial of testing, which only makes me more weak. Phooey. I know things are not curable, I accept the fact that I will die, and I am ready. So ! I feel better already.

I haven't been in because I've been wrapping the fruit cake while watching THE SOUND OF MUSIC and as soon as it's over, I'm heading to bed.  I have a foot dr. appt tomorrow at 11:15 and the shopping with Kiran after school.  So my day will be busy.  I'm going to try to get one more family wrapped before I go to the foot dr.

SO...I bid you Good night Everyfriend!  And may God bless us, every one!

June, I agree with you 100% about being in control.... just you and God.  I wish you weren't this far down the path and sincerely hope you will feel stronger and better tomorrow and enjoy many more years with us and your other families.  You do have a fan club & I'm right here to cheer you on.

Cold here in Kansas, some snow on the ground, little turned to ice but it is the wind that chills to the bone.  I did get out this morning & went to church & breakfast at McDonald's with son & wife....

Gotta run... God Bless... Shirley

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

It warmed up a little here today, but not enough to do any melting.

We went down to Dr. Dave's to watch the Bronco/Patriots Game, and dinner.  our DIL'S mother and her friend are here visiting so it was nice to see them.  They are from Scottsdale so were wrapped up trying to deal with our frigid temperatures.  It was a really bright sunny day and just beautiful to look at with all of the snow.

JACKIE, how nice to read about your neighborhood celebration....so glad you got to go and enjoy yourself. Good girl for taking the rollator.

JOAN, I had forgotten that Joe and Kate used to live in Boston.  Do you know what community/area of Boston they lived in?  Our son does not know the area at all, but has been there to look at housing and feel they are going to zero in on Weston and Brookline.  They have elementary aged children so schools are high on the priority list.  They love the community they live in now and the schools are the best...so they have some high expectations for what they hope to end up with in Boston.

GLORIA, I did not think that the weather would be better in Boston rather than Chicago....but I hope that is true.

Thank you for the nice goodies today, JOAN, and for the beautiful graphic, PHYLLIS.

I just finished watching a special regarding the cost of prescription drugs....it was a very depressing documentary.  I do not know what many are going to do if the costs keep rising like they are.

JANE, Happy Birthday to Kiran.  Enjoy the special time you will have with her tomorrow.

LARRY, the only problem with Logan vs O'Hare is that it is double the distance!  More time on the plane and more money....but it will be fun to learn more about Boston as we get the chance to visit there. We have not been there in years.

JUNE, I hope tomorrow you will be feeling much better than you did today.  You should be able to chose if you want to go through the tests or not.  It is not going to change the situation one way or the other.

Nice to see you popping in tonight, SHIRLEY.  One thing for sure, both Boston and Chicago are places that are fun to visit and spend time.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny

Vanilla I think the word has already gotten out because the lineups are virtually non-existent.  Having been there for so long I am the only Santa that many of the children know and one mum told me her son would not visit the new one because "he's not the real Santa"

CHUCKLES

Nice Guy

"Gee, Mom," said the teenager to her mother. "I can't seem to find a really nice guy."

"Well, what do you look for in a man, dear?"

"Character. To me, a man's physical appearance, age and financial position are irrelevant."

"Then have you met Mrs. Hart's son?"

"Hart? Hart? Isn't he that funny-looking kid who's always broke?"

Food For Thought

Hope
(By Peder Eide)

The word hope has been used in a lot of ways. It's been used in songs, naming of children, schools, poems, movies, books, and even campaign slogans.

Really hope is a powerful, emotional, heartfelt word. Probably why it's so attractive.

So the third week of advent we are choosing the word hope. Why?

Because where we put our hope and what we put our hope in will truly determine how we live.

Depending where our hope is affects our choices, how we lead, how we pursue our dreams, how we handle conflict or fears, how we treat our spouse, how we love, how we see our future, and how we see Jesus.

At Christmas we celebrate and draw into God's sending of hope through the birth of Jesus. God keeps His promise following through with his word of sending one who would be the Savior of all.

Throughout scripture, we're directed to put our hope in God.

Not just hope about God, but put our hope IN God.

Why?

Because God never fails.

The love of Jesus never fails. The Holy Spirit is not afraid. God is faithful and never breaks a promise and our hope in Him will not disappoint us.

"And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:3-5

"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation." 1 Peter 1:3

Over a month ago we had an election for president.

Did it turn out the way you wanted it to?

It really doesn't matter because to put a life hope in an election might have some short-term benefits but they are not [eternal]. Even the most powerful leader is not for you in the way Jesus is for you.

Read that Romans verse again.

Hope in Jesus does not disappoint and the Holy Spirit is real and alive through you.

That's why the shepherds ran to Bethlehem.

That's why the Kings traveled for so long.

That's why Joseph trusted the God's vision in his dreams.

That's why Mary said, "I am the Lord's servant. Do what you want with me."

And the world was never the same!

That's Hope that does not fail or disappoint!

In your daily decisions, how do you choose your hope?

God is good!

Thought of the Day

"In these days, we need Christmas more than ever. We need the hope, comfort, strength, and joy that comes from knowing Christ."

(just the month we used it) to 12 months $100.?? . whom knew we wouldn't
be abel to work 18/20 hours per day making $$$ from now on also and have invested some of it. oh well I am still breathing ( not easy) but still here. we have like two houses in one but Nancy wont here of renting part  one level out to help out.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have 21º right now going down to 20 and then up to a high of 27 today.  But the sun is supposed to be coming out around 8 and when the sun shines, it just doesn't feel as cold.

As soon as the doggies and I have had our breakfast, I'm going to get my shower and get dressed and ready for my foot dr. appt.  Then I'm going to wrap as many gifts as I can before it's time to go.  We'll see what transpires.

Joanie, today's inspirational reading was of particular interest to me.  I found something to take to heart.  Hope is the best thing we have going for us as Christians!  Thank you for that reminder!

I wish you all a wonderful day full of whatever pleases you or gives you HOPE!

Good morning!  Drizzly day here and colder.  Yesterday the temp. was up in the 70's.  So strange but I welcomed it.

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments about the graphic.  I appreciate your appreciation!   :smitten:

We are all ready for Christmas except I must get busy and bake something for the neighbors who are so kind and generous to me throughout the year.  Yesterday my younger son and dil called to just "check on me".  It was nice to talk to them for awhile.

Joan, I always appreciate the "wit and wisdom" that you search for and bring to us every week.

Don, what a nice feeling to know that you are missed at the old mall.  Their loss and the new mall's gain to have the "real Santa Claus" this Christmas season.

June, a new IMAC lap top!  That is a very nice gift.  And have fun playing with it.

Please, everyone, take care when the weather where you are is cold and uncomfortable.  And I hope and pray that everyone who is not feeling well will feel much better soon.

Good morning everyone, rain finally stopped but it is still all clouds. Just saw the forecast for the week. Rain again on Thursday but warmer on the weekend. Great no snow to get through to go to my grandson's on Christmas.

CALLIE  it was my dental hygienist who suggested I use Biotene.

JOAN  I think it was a med I was taking that gave me dry mouth.  My sons would not let me take my step stool with me when I moved. Now I would not even get up on one of those little stools.

PATRICIA  at least we do mot have to worry about making sure we have spare light bulbs except for our lamps.

DON  now that should prove to that mall they mad a mistake letting you go from your Santa job every year. You personality made Santa work.

JACKIE  glad you took the rollator. Holding onto it was better than holding onto R. Came in handy for holding things too.

JENNY  Boston weather is not much different from where I live. We do get more snow here though. They do not want to live right in the city. Many nice smaller places around it though. A lot of Rhode Islanders commute to work in Boston. Not as windy as Chicago though.

JOAN  a banana muffin sounds great. Great Food for Thought, HOPE is something we all have. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  looks like the sun is finally going to break through the clouds here. About time.

PHYLLIS  I do have to go out tomorrow morning, appointment at 10, dislike morning appointments.

AMY  glad it is not that cold here.

Getting hungry, better go make my breakfast. I will not be here in the morning tomorrow.

Good morning, Gloria.  I sure wish some of that rain would come our way.  I bought a ladder when I moved here for others to use, and it's come in handy many times.  I do like morning appointments--get it over with.  That's another "whatever floats your boat".

Sandy--Good morning.  I only was up to Wellesley a few times before Kate and Joe moved to Alabama.  They had a lovely home there, but both hated the snow.

Hi everyone.  After a day when we got to the high 70's today will only be in the 40's.  We had rain all of last evening and it is raining again this morning.  Fortunately it is not cold enough to give us any ice.

We had a lovely Church service yesterday with "Lessons and Carol" being used with nice different reading and a lot of Sacred Christmas music.  It was a long service as it ran over about 15 minutes past our normal time.  Our Chancel Choir, the Bells and the primary age children's choir sang along with a several instrumental accompaniments.

The only thing on the schedule for today is my Monday noon meeting.  We are having a briefer meeting today with a social occasion afterwards with finger foods.

JaneS, are you responsible for the temps here going from the high 70's into the mid-40's today.  :)

Joan, I saw a temperature map yesterday of the lower 48 States and it appeared that only Florida and South Carolina had those very nice temperatures yesterday.

Lloyd, I certainly would have shared the weather we had yesterday but I have no control over such things.

Gloria, glad your power wasn't off too long.  The adopted grandson sounds like a fine man and your son and DIL are to be commended for giving him a good home.

Patricia, I am surprised that just two inches of snow would bring about a "severe weather" alert.  After all it is Alaska.  The pets we have do their work by bringing joy into our lives.

Don, what a nice experience you had yesterday at the mall and the grocery store.  Your years as the Santa at that mall were remembered and I am sure not by one child but probably by many.

Jackie, "yonks" is not an expression I have ever heard before.  I expect it means years. Glad you enjoyed the carol sing and getting together with neighbors.

June, I hope you really enjoy your new iMac lap top.  It sounds like you have made a wise decision regarding your upcoming test.  I am beginning to feel that way about further heart tests.

Jenny, the Broncos didn't have a good game.  It was the only game on here at the early hour.

Phyllis, I am glad you were in the warm portion of the country yesterday.  I guess the weather paid no attention to the State line.  :)

If you need a little uplift today be sure to watch this video that Lloyd sent me the link to:   http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=7lfaSmDxVZQ

Good morning from the Interior! It is still dark at 8:51 AM but staying warm, and we have or will gain three minutes of daylight over yesterday. They had the big Solstice celebration Saturday with street fairs, caroling, and some hot food booths but I was really disappointed. The actual solstice is the 21st and not the 17th and what were we actually celebrating? The fireworks were thumping, colors blazing but it was all celebrating commercialism and ease of use.

It is the same with President's Day and other smushed together and redesigned days. There is no meaning left, no relevance. No reason to celebrate anything. The Solstice and the increasing daylight and lessening of dark and colder weather, physical reality is worth celebrating. Celebrating the 17th, a Saturday means what, more shopping? Our June 21st. Solstice celebration is now called Conoco Phillips' Summer Solstice Celebration. What does that even mean? Are we celebrating an oil company's Solstice, more light to drill? Enough, ranting doesn't change anything.

Tisi, thank you for your good wishes. You understand.

Janie, I pray you have happy news from your foot doctor.

Phyllis, so much going on here health wise, I haven't had a chance to really play with my new lap top. Gary assures me it operates just like my desk top, except I will need to use my glasses when playing with it.

Larry, I think too many of us have felt we had to do what the doctor demanded. And many people do need to do that. But at 92 years of age, I am old enough and stubborn enough to make my own decisions and be responsible for them. It is proving to be best.

This has been a banner day for me. I went to the clinic and the girls looked at my leg, and felt it was not getting better. The two of them run the clinic so I trust them implicitly. Besides that, they tell me they love me.
I told them to cancel the doppler test. My doctor is out of town at the present time, so they could not confer with her. They did speak to Gary. Later in the morning, one of them came up and said she wanted to have a heart to heart talk with me. She felt it was time for me to go to the hospital, where they could do the doppler and find out more about the condition of my leg. She must have talked for 20 minutes, and I listened. Then I told her I would like to tell her why I would not go to the hospital, and went through the whole boring routine. She did not try to change my mind. The result is, an in-house doctor came to my room, set up his machine, and did the doppler. I will have to forego my insurance on this, but Gary O.K.ed it. From now on, I will stay right here in my apt. and no more hospitalization. Gary suggested I enquire about Hospice care, which I will do. Hospice does NOT mean I am dying. Gary said a hospice nurse would come to see me about once a month or more often if needed..just to check up on my wants or needs. No more hospitalization.

So, my dear friends. I am rejoicing ! This is a long message so I will cut it off now. See y'all later. June

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm taking a minute to breathe! This has been some busy day!  I started off wrapping gifts and the took off for the foot doctor (all's well in that department).  Before coming home, I decided to pick up a few things I still needed at WM  so I could concentrate on Kiran when we go there for her birthday shopping.  I was almost finished when the Head Cashier stopped me to ask me if I'd like to pick up some hours tomorrow.  The long and short of that is, I'll be going in an hour early and possibly staying an extra hour.  I don't have to decide that until I get there.

Then I came home, ate some lunch, let the dogs out and took a very short snooze, went to pick up Kiran at the bus and took her to McDonalds for supper and birthday shopping.  Then we hurried home so she could change, get her hair fixed and be ready to be picked up for her school Christmas concert.  It got late, we couldn't reach her daddy or mom so I took her over to the new high school and then hurried home where they were waiting to take me to the concert and now I'm home.  WHEW!  I'm ready for bed right now!  I'm turning off my motor and putting everything on idle!

June, at 94 you have earned every right to be left alone and not messed with.  I sometimes feel the same way.  Like you, I simply have to many doctors wanting to do too much.  Like I have told a couple of them at my (our) age look hard enough and you will certainly find something wrong.

I have an appointment in the morning following up on my cold.  I am down to two pills but this young doctor I am seeing is like my other young doctor in the same clinic he is eager and after the last visit he prescribed some whopper size calcium pills, four a day, I swear I can barely get them down as a matter of fact I have only once.

Anyhow, old friend, you are loved and admired by each and every one of us.  You will be thought of in our prayers to ease your pain and God's will be done.

Right Answer

My friend reviewed her young son’s fill-in-the-blank homework.

One line: “At Christmas, we exchange gifts with ____.”

His response: “Receipts."

Food For Thought

Unswerving Hope

By Rebecca Heys
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23
The book of Hebrews tells us how Jesus Christ makes possible a loving relationship between the holy God and his unholy people. Jesus has actually become our perfect priest, having made a sacrifice of himself in order that all God’s people might be united with him. In today’s verses the writer turns to talk about our response to God’s gracious love in Christ. If God has done all this for us, how should we live?
One way is to live in hopeâ€"¬unswerving hope. But even here, as the writer turns to talk about what we should do, it’s clear that unswerving hope is possible only because of the faithfulness of God. It is possible to hope in the promises of God because God keeps his promises. It is possible to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess because God, who promised the things we hope for, is faithful to keep those promises.
The writer of Hebrews also counsels his readers to continue meeting together regularly and encouraging each other. Worshiping or gathering with other Christians is an important way to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess. Other Christians are a valuable gift from God to encourage us in hope.
Do you meet regularly with other believers? If you don’t, I urge you to find a Bible-believing church where you can be encouraged in your faith.
Holy God, help us to stay true to the hope you have given us in Jesus Christ. Surround us with other Christians who will encourage us in this life of hope. Amen.

Thought of the Day

There’s nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child.”

Good morning everyone..

I was beat last night and hit the bed early...slept like a log! I did manage to get a lot done , another hour on the binding and it too shall be done. Went out for lunch and was asked to take a gentleman to the hospital, he had had a ride but the other fellow forgot. We had our lunch and then I took hubby home and went back for the gentleman..he is just one of the regulars where we go for coffee/tea.

Hubby is talking of going to the city..(I would rather stay home) but I will take him if he wants to go. He wants to do some shopping and get new boots.I am sure it will be like a sardine can in there today,so we will go early and hope to beat the crowds.

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi everyone.  We had a very chilly and damp day yesterday with the temperatures in the 40's.  It looks like today will also be in the 40's with no chance of further rain today.  Pat was able to get an appointment with the PA at our Primary Care Doctor's Office for 10 am today.  Her toe apparently is feeling just a little bit better but the side of her foot is still swollen and hot.  There is nothing else on the schedule for today.  We had a nice little party after our meeting yesterday.  The dish I had taken full of peanut clusters came home empty and several asked for the recipe.  I did fry chicken last evening for our dinner and that was a first for me and I sure made a greasy mess on the stove.  I told Pat that in the future I would be preparing chicken baked or in the crock pot and when she wants fried chicken I will get it and bring it home, which I often do.

Jackie, thanks for the explanation of the term "yonks" as it was a new one to me.

Hal, I do hope you and your wife are feeling better today.  Those calcium pills are large.  I take one twice a day but don't have any trouble doing so.

June, glad they brought the Doppler test to you rather than you having to go to them.  One of the really nice things Stacey did for us is she handled all the paperwork to sign up for Hospice. That is a wonderful and caring organization and they were so much help to us and were there for Stacey and for us.

Joan, I think the little boy's answer about exchanging gifts was excellent.  :)

Amy, nice to see you are going to be able to enjoy a day at home.  Very nice of you to take the gentleman to the hospital.  It is always a good feeling to be able to help someone else.

JaneS, I hope the extra hour isn't too much for you as you seem to come home pretty tired from your normal shift.  You sure did have a busy day with shopping and the Christmas concert but I am sure you enjoyed it since it was with your granddaughter.

Lloyd, hope the space heater just needs minor repairs.

Not too much planned for today.  The household laundry is just finishing and will go into the dryer soon.  I plan to bake some cookies this afternoon and, maybe, make some Glazed Almonds for the Christmas gifts to the neighbors.....and, of course, keep a few (or more) for us.

I spent so much time yesterday standing by the big window in the kitchen watching two deer down in our backyard woods.  They spent the whole afternoon there just grazing on English Ivy and lying down resting.  They weren't at all concerned about cars going back and forth on the street over on the hill across the creek.  I live in a fairly good sized city and there is a lot of activity all around but those deer have adapted to it all so much that they aren't spooked. But, they were always on the alert.  I'm always delighted by the many wild creatures that live in or pass through my little patch of woods.

Take care, everyone, and stay well.

I am here, everything is still a big blur.. Hard reading but that is all I will do. I was told I now have dry eyes. He ordered a prescription for me and as I got into my home the phone was ringing, the pharmacy telling me I have a prescription ready. Will call there and have it delivered in the morning.  I used to love early morning appointments but no more. I like 1pm times best. Bright sun and rode home with my eyes closed. Hope you all have a great day. I am going to go lay down on the couch and hopefully fall asleep. Then my eyes might see better again.

Hal, I thought you were my friend. I was born in 1924. I am 92 years of age, not 94. It would be nice to reach that number though.

I went down for an early lunch today, enjoyed a barbqued beef sandwich, cole slaw, tater tots and a cup of bean soup and a tall glass of V8 juice, while gabbing with two lovely ladies. Brought home a big cup of choc. ice cream, and half my sandwich, which I will have for supper tonight. The rest of the day is mine. How lucky can one be ?

Good Afternoon,

It's been a "beautiful day in the neighborhood"  (la la la ) and all across central Oklahoma.
After my regular hair appointment I went all around the town and have now finally finished the "small stuff" Christmas shopping!
I was so pleased to find light traffic and convenient parking places everywhere I went.  It was also warm enough that I didn't have to wear a coat over my fairly heavy sweatshirt. Plus,  I was able to save quite a bit of money with various coupons from the stores I wanted to go to, anyway.

Came home to find a message from #2 son that they would be here between 5:00 and 5:30 to set up Netflix on my tv  - AND bring pizza!   That's a Very Good Thing because I was planning to let Stauffer's "cater" my dinner from the freezer.

Maybe this discombobulated month is finally beginning to settle down.

Hal,  I couldn't swallow the huge Caltrate calcium pills my doctor wanted me to take and my pharmacist suggested replacing them with "Caltrate Gummies" - which are chewable.  Same dosage but ever so much easier and lots tastier.

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having/has had an Enjoyable Day.

Wait! Wait!  Phyllis posted while I was typing.  Somebody grab an extra cookie from the hidey-hole and toss it to me.....please?   :rosegal:   :metoo:

I shocked myself, I did fall asleep for more than 3 hours. Was getting dark and I saw a pretty red sunset.  It was in the teens when I left this morning. The driver called to make sure I would not wait outside. I waited in the lobby and saw her whe she drove up. I sure do like getting the town car when I have to go to an appointment. They have 2 ladies that drive and 1 day a week they drive a bus to the CVS store and then to the only market in town, just around the corner from CVS. Sure glad I do not have to get my groceries there. Produce is terrible, I went in there twice and never again. Another time I am glad I have a PC, I can get groceries delivere.

JOAN  yes Restasis. It will be delivered in te morning. I told him when I wake in the morning my eyes at times feel like they have sand in them. If the drops don't work he said they will have to put plugs in my eyes. My daughter had that done several years ago. I have an appointment with him the end of February. Sure hope I can get the drops in. Even he has trouble getting drops in, I blink when I see a drop heading for my eyes. I also have my next yearly appointment. Told the gal I would like to get away from winter appointments so it is for April 3, 2018. Yipee.

PHYLLIS  on boy I better head to the hidey hole before everything is gone.

Now I think I will head to the kitchen to see what I can find for my supper.

CHUCKLES

Stakeout

I'm a police officer and occasionally park my cruiser in residential areas to watch for speeders. One Sunday morning I was staked out in a driveway when I saw a large dog trot up to my car.

He stopped and sat just out of arm's reach. No matter how much I tried to coax him to come for a pat on the head, he refused to budge.

After a while, I decided to move to another location. I pulled out of the driveway, looked back, and learned the reason for the dog's stubbornness. He quickly picked up the newspaper I'd been parked on and dutifully ran back to his master.

Food For Thought

The Crisis of a Christless Christianity
(by Chip Brogden)

Note from Chris: This piece below personally blessed me and encouraged me - it says a lot of things that the church as a whole (myself included) - need to hear right now. The author makes a lot of varying statements including some that I myself am not quite sure about (i.e. I may not agree) - so I would encourage you to read this carefully and prayerfully. However, on the whole, I believe there is much value in this - and its underlying theme of the importance of the centrality of Christ in this thing we call "Christianity" is very worthwhile to consider. -Chris

"As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him... beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him..." (Colossians 2:6,8,9a)

The Christian life is a life that is lived IN CHRIST. That is to say, to walk IN HIM is to live as a Christian. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship. A Christian is a branch that grows out of the Vine and continually produces abundant fruit for the Husbandman. The Church is the gathering together of all individual branches into one Vineyard (see John 15). In this metaphor we see that Christianity is supposed to be a living phenomenon, an observable reality, not a religious philosophy or set of teachings.

As we first received the Lord Jesus, so we continue to walk in the Lord Jesus. Receiving Christ is the Gate, but walking in Him as we have received Him is the Path. The Gate is an event, while the Path is a process. The Gate is for entering, while the Path is for walking.

Everything God has done, is doing, and will do is aimed at bringing us deeper into Christ, to finish what was begun in us when we first received Him. God is the One Who brings us through the Gate, and God is the One Who leads us along the Path. Everything God has done, is doing, and will do has the same purpose...

Jesus is the Alpha from Whom all things in God are initiated, and Jesus is the Omega unto Whom all things of God find their purpose, their meaning, and their reason for being. Everything begins in Christ, and everything ends in Christ. He is the Beginning as well as the End.

Real spiritual growth occurs when we realize that God has only one goal for us, and that is, the full, mature, complete, and experiential knowledge of Jesus Christ. To the extent that we discard "things" and become focused wholly on Christ, to that extent we will make progress.

Thought of the Day

"A man who started to paint his front porch while his house was on fire would be considered an idiot. Is the picture overdrawn when I say that this is what the modern church is doing?"

- Leonard Ravenhill

Oh, Phyllis, I actually shivered when scrolling past your graphic.... it looks SO cold & beautiful.  We have not had one of those mornings so far this year, guess not enough moisture.  Gorgeous scene, thanks!

Joan, had to giggle about the dog retrieving the paper.... one of our neighbors had an Irish Setter that went out the garage door, Master standing at the door as the dog plowed through snow or rain to get the paper... Was so cute to watch.  Where we lived before, out in the country, row of 30 houses built down the middle of what had been a homestead farm, some of us had a terrible time finding our morning paper.  Paper deliverer insisted someone had a dog picking them up but nobody ever saw a dog running loose.  Finally a lady on the edge of our area made the comment that she wished she could find where her dog was getting papers, every morning she would find a stack of them on her front porch.  She "left them in sight in hopes owners would stop & ask...". I think someone convinced her to not let the dog out so early~~

Sorry about your brother-in-law, Amy, had he been ill long?  I still haven't dug out my snow shovel (or snow blower).... looks like it will melt this week anyway.  I do have the dirtiest car possible, with my short legs I can't get in or out without getting the pant legs icky.

Jackie, I also get 4 cats fed before I fix my breakfast.... but before Cas died, his breakfast was on the table first.  My mother took care of Dad first all my life so it was instinct to do the same when I got married.  Don't think I know anyone that does that these days, both go off to work & one drops kids off at the sitter's & lets them feed the little ones.  A different life and different world.  My sons are the only ones with pets & I do know they make sure their dogs are taken care of first!  None of the married grands have pets.

Gloria, do hope the dry eyes get better with the drops, seems it is almost routine diagnosis with nearly everyone our age needing them.  I am also on that winter (Jan) yearly exam & was wishing I had changed it last time, I think it is a bad time because so far none of the glasses prescribed work as well as ones from 30 years ago.  Do you have a problem being on the computer with your eyes getting sore?  I've nearly cut out doing anything with photos ... partly because of eyes but also lost my "workspace" or whatever it's called, on PSP.  I still show all those icons on the left (clone & other tools) but the ones at the top don't work to let me change sizes of text, color or types/styles of tools.  I remember when I first got PSP someone explained how to set that up and I never changed it all these years..... but think some update did it.  Jack (over in Photos) does amazing things with what comes on Windows 10... Maybe I'll learn one of these days.

Best wishes for a happy day, this shortest day of the year.  I still can't believe Christmas is only a few days off.

Hi everyone.  We woke up to a foggy and chilly morning with the temperature in the high 30's.  It will not get very warm all day.  This should be a pretty laid back day.  Scott will be with us later this afternoon and we plan on going to Tin Lizzy's for a late lunch/early dinner so I won't have to cook today.

Pat did get in to see the doctor's PA yesterday morning and now has some medicine for the gout.  She said her foot was feeling better this morning so hopefully the pain in her toe will soon be a thing in the past.

Joan, I can't really take any credit for the candy making as it was simply cutting upon some packages and placing the contents in the big crockpot and turning it on for an hour and then stirring and spooning out the peanut clusters.

Gloria, I hope you can tolerate the Restasis eye drops better than Pat could.  They stung her eyes and she decided not to use them.  She does use an eye gel during the day and an eye lubricant at night plus taping her eyes shut at night so they won't get so dry.

June, you all sure have good meal in your dinner room.  It sounds like you also get large portions.

Callie, I hope you will enjoy Netflix.  We have used it for quite a long time and usually watch it in the evening to avoid those miserable commercials. One series we really enjoyed (and I checked and it is still available on Netflix) is Monarch of the Glen and another is  Crown.

Amy, sorry to read about the passing of your brother in law.  Glad your husband didn't have to wear that halter monitor for 30 days as is sometimes required.

Phyllis, a really nice Winter Solstice graphic.  It shows some of the beauty of God's wintertime.

Shirley, funny story about the neighbor's dog and the newspapers.  The dog was probably having a great time and thought he/she was doing a good thing.

Good morning everyone, boy did I sleep good last night, woke at 9:30 this morning with the phone ringing. The delivery of the new med.  I have now tried getting a drop in both eyes, hope they went in right. Those little vials are so hard and I do not have enough strength in my hands to squeeze them gut my eyelashes sure got wet. I would do better with an eye cup.

JOAN  when I had the cataract surgeries I would take those bottles downstairs for my DIL to put the drops in.

JACKIE  that puff of air scared me at first but now I am used to it. For a change yesterday the eye doctor had no problem getting all those drops in. I kept telling myself it will not hurt, keep your eyes open. He even remarked about how easy they went in. I told him I have learned to trust him not to hurt my eyes. I would never be able to wear contacts.

JOAN  for the first day of winter it is warmer today than it has been this week and the sun is shining brightly. A good way to celebrate the solstice with  1 or 2 lemon DD's. I sure need those this morning. I am so late getting here today my helper is here and just took the laundry down. At least I am dressed and not in nightgown and robe. Love Stakeout, well trained dog. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  is today when you pick up the extra hour? Hope it does not tire you too much and your customers have the Christmas spirit without a Grinch  in there to spoil the day.

AMY  sorry about your brother in law.  A sad time of year for a death. Every death is sad but at Christmas time I think it is worse.

LLOYD  you could have bought a new space heater for what it cost you to fix the old one.

PHYLLIS  thank you for the beautiful graphic for today. It is a lot warmer today compared to yesterday.

SHIRLEY  I have computer glasses that are better for most things except reading.  While he spent more time looking into my eyes yesterday I blinked several times. He said he could see a difference in my eyes with each blink. He also said if the drops do not help they would put plugs in my eyes. That would be done in his office. I had told him my eyes were itchy a lot of the time but I refrained from rubbing them. Have you checked the Help in PSP to find out how to fix the top toolbar? I know I have added things up there that I use often. Do you gave View showing? From there you can customize that tool bar.

LARRY  I hope I did get some of the drops into my eyes this morning but no burning sensation.

I went out to do errands this morning.  The pharmacy made a big mess of my Rx order, and I was told to come back later.  I went and did a few more errands, went back for the medicines--still not ready.  Grrrr.......  I said some things that weren't very nice.  I just got home and it's time for a nebulizer treatment and then lunch.  I'll be back later.

Callie, our two "eagles" did that trip in reverse.  Natalie and Clint arrived from Houston yesterday!  I just took a quick trip over there for hugs and brought a cookie half way home.  Unfortunately, it disappeared on the way home.  Gonna catch a few zzzs before supper.

Hello all, I woke at 3 a.m. with big pain, so walked and walked and then back to my bed and I slept the whole morning through. Did not accomplish much today. Had leg checked. Got medications boxed, received new bunch of meds, and now it is time to doll up and go down for our Festive Dinner. They do this each Christmas but it is a first for me. Gary and his Church Choir will be over to entertain us at 7 P.m. so I am looking forward to that.

We have had a beautiful light rain all afternoon and more is expected tonight. What a treat.

Time for me to dress...so off I go.

HI to everyone.  The first of my clan arrived tonight.  He has already turned in and I am on the way.  My cold is still with me, but seems to be improving.

June, I do hope your leg starts to improve.  Pain is the most hideous thing, it is persistent and unrelenting without some intervention, or so it seems.  I watched a football game from San Diego tonight and it was pouring there.  Hope you continue to get your much needed rain.

Good night, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

Food For Thought

IF HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS
(By Debbie Preuss)

If home is where your heart is, then heaven is my home
For one I loved is gone, I'm left here all alone
Memories flood my mind, now Christmas time is here
I'm longing for my loved one, I want to hold them near
How can life go on, when there's a void within my soul
An emptiness that feels, like I'll never be made whole
I know they're up in heaven, we'll meet again one day
But I am so lonely, ever since they went away
There will be no tears in heaven, but my heart weeps here
How I miss my precious one, to me you were so dear
God reached down and called you home, now you're gone from me
I look forward to the day, when we're together for eternity
Enjoy your first Christmas in heaven, sing God's praises strong
For it won't be too long now, until I come along
But I have work here to do, as I sing God's praise
You are in my heart, all throughout my days
My time is not yet finished here, so I carry on
Memories flood my mind and heart, as for you I long
Dear Lord this request I make, as to You I pray
Be my source of hope and strength, each and every day
For one I loved has gone, I'm left here all alone
If home is where your heart is, then heaven is my home

Thought of the Day

Trade God your pieces for His peace.

Hi everyone.  It looks like it will be a nice day starting out about 42 but suppose to go up to around 66 degrees this afternoon with no chance of rain.  I only got about 3 hours of sleep last night as could never go back to sleep after Pat came to bed.  This is going to be a busy morning as will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I will take him back home and then go back downtown for our Wisdom Group.  When that is over I will go to Aldi's for a few items and then go to Walmart to pick up another small online order.  Finally I have one other stop planned before coming home to get the air checked in my tires as the gauge shows a low tire.  Scott really enjoyed his meal with us at Tin Lizzy's late yesterday afternoon.  He had been called into work for a short time at the lunch period and then went home and fell asleep.  When we got home we visited for a couple of hours and then he headed back home as was tired.

Gloria, I also don't enjoy getting drops put in my eyes but it is usually just to dilate them.  Since my Dad had glaucoma I get my eyes checked every year and that involves dilating them and that is usually the only time I have to have drops put in my eyes. Glad to read the new medicine didn't cause a sting in your eyes.

This is a nice time of the year when family members from far away can return home for a few days to celebrate the holidays.

June, I hope you enjoyed your Festive Dinner and that the leg pain wasn't as bad last night as the last few nights.  Nice of Gary's church Choir to come and entertain you all.

Shirley, your grandson must be quite a gamer to go overseas for a computer gaming contest.  I have never gotten into the action games as don't want to be pushed when I play a game so limit them to puzzles and card games.

Joan, I liked the humor you have for us today.

Amy, hope your roads are OK for your trip to the city today and that you didn't have to do too much shoveling.

Don, what an adorable little girl, and what a nice note she wrote to you.  It is so heartwarming to know there are still little ones out there that believe and love Santa Claus. You are to be congratulated for sure !

Tisie and Hal, I am going to quit complaining about my ills. They cannot be changed, so why do I dwell on them. However your caring concerns are greatly appreciated. Hugs.

We had a truly festive dinner last evening. The staff really out-did themselves in pleasing us. And they had four carolers walling around singing to us A cappella, and they were perfect. They wore costumes from the 18 hundreds..very enjoyable.then later Gary and Dori brought their Church Choir through to do more songs...a wonderful evening all total.

Janie, I'm so glad you are still able to run in place and be so active and so happy. You are inspiring girl. Keep it up.

Good morning everyone. Boy am I having a problem getting those drops in my eyes. Get them every place but my eyes. I bet my eye doctor knew that would be a problem for me.
My older son was here yesterday afternoon. My DIL had a week vacation last week and they took a trip to Maine. Gor to LLBean and bought some Christmas presents there. They stopped in Kittery Maine on the way back and yesterday he brought me some candy from there. Block of soft centers covered in chocolate. I had a small slice of one with a green center-mint flavor, yummy. Now I am anxious to try the other ones.

JOAN  sorry about you problem with the pharmacy yesterday. That is the main reason I did not want to change. CVS messed me up before but that was not the one here, the delivery here is what made me change. One thing less my younger son has to do for me.

AMY  beautiful. Thanks for the link.

JOAN  nah, you did not enjoy seeing all those penguins.  I thought of you as soon as I saw them.  :smitten:

CALLIE  glad Ellen landed safe and on time. I know you are in a hurry to see her. Have some cookies ready for her?

JANE  always wonderful to see family members you do not get to see often.

JUNE  sorry you woke in pain, not nice at all. My daughter and SIL are in Can Diego for Christmas at their older son's home. They also had some business to wind up. They went by their old home and the man who bought it was there and showed them around to see what they had done. They had stucco put on the outside and tore apart the inside. Does not look like the same house at all. They have been having rain, there, too. I know you enjoyed Gary and the church choir last evening.

DON  that is so heartwarming and I know it made you feel wonderful.

LLOYD  I can see where a commercial heater would cost a lot more.

SHIRLEY  How could I fix you PSP from so far away? I do know I set my tool bar with what I use by going to view and clicking o customize and saving those settings in my preferences. Once in awhile it messes up and I have to reset it. Looks like Amy's link did not work for you.  More penguins than we could count.

JOAN  never had Eggs Florentine, something new to try. Food for Thought is how many feel on Christmas, sad but true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  safe travels to the city and home. No snow here but is supposed to rain today.

LARRY  this time the eye doctor wanted to look at the cataract things from that surgery to see if there was something there. As bad as I am with getting drops in my eyes, these little vials are hard to squeeze. I do not have much strength in my hands, never did. Then my aim is way off. He always dilates my eyes and checks then more drops to dilate further.  Must have got some in yesterday because when I woke this morning my eyes were not a gritty as they have been. No sting from the drops. Like you I like making puzzles  and thanks to you mentioning it I have BrainsBreaker and a few different MahJong games. I do not want any timing on what I do for entertainment.

JUNE  the festivities last night sound wonderful.

Larry--Good morning.  You sure have been busy.  Glad you liked the humor.

Good morning June.  GREAT that you had such a nice evening yesterday.

Gloria--Good morning.  I have trouble with the eye drops, too.  How nice that your son and DIL brought you some yummy candy.  I used CVS when I first moved here for prescriptions and switched to Walgreens after CVS messed up several times.   It seems now Walgreens is going to do the same.  Of course I loved seeing all those penguins.:)

Good morning from the Interior. Yesterday was the Solstice, our shortest day and nothing happened other than private parties as "Those" looking to commercialize a simple moment to see daylight return, arranged everything on the 17th. When you live in the arctic and when your winter daylight is from 10 am to 3 pm and an hour and half of that is twilight, you grow to appreciate daylight. The winter Solstice celebrates the return of daylight, and the summer Solstice celebrates twenty-four hours of summer daylight before we begin to lose minutes again. I am not a fan of commercializing everything for profit or to advertise a company.

For those of you having problems with eyedrops, I had that issue until I was shown how to make a small "cup" from your lower eyelid and place the drop there. It is simple, easy, and you don't lose the drops. I have recently had the issue of not being able to squeeze the bottle and think they should make bottles for those of us who have problems.

It is now 6:47 and I have the cleaner showing up at nine to do a deep clean so I will be busy again today.

My eyes are closing, nap time!  But I have to stop & talk or will forget when I come back.

Patricia, that is the best tip I've ever read/heard to get drops in the eyes!  I don't use but did help put drops in for Cas over the years.  Really a super idea, thanks!  Hope I can remember if ever I need, but will certainly pass the advice on.

Larry, I've always been against all the gaming my grands did but this kid has been a whiz all his life, even was put on time limits when it came to getting homework done.  He has a good job dealing with tech stuff (one of his degrees) & his company gave him time off to travel (all expenses paid), so one of those times when it rings true, "you never have to work a day in your life if you love your job".

Good Afternoon,

Permanent crown firmly attached to tooth - quick stop at the dairy store on the way home - finally In For The Duration....I hope!

Yesterday afternoon, I moved the lightweight worktable from my office to my bedroom so I could wrap packages.
Just as I was getting organized, the doorbell rang.  It was my next-door-neighbor bringing me a small loaf of holiday bread.  "Yes, she would come in and visit" - and did so for about 45 minutes.

A few minutes after she left, the phone rang.  It was the "other side" next door neighbor.  She brought me a small tin of home made candy and,  "Yes, she could come in and visit".

I never got back to the package wrapping!!

Should get that done this afternoon because son wants to take them all home after the party here tomorrow night instead of on the "midnight ride" of Christmas Eve.

Of course, the way this month has gone,  I expect "the best laid plans of mice, men and Callie to go astray".....again!

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Shirley--Your mention of gaming brought to mind most recent activity.  Last weekend he went to Nashville, TN to compete in a chess tournament. It was expensive to enter, and his parents told him of he wanted to go he had to pay the entry fee with his own money and they would take him.  He was the youngest competing and only won two games, but had a good attitude.  He told his Dad he'd practice more and next year go back and wow them.:)

Callie--I'd say you had your gift wrapping interrupted yesterday.  However, how nice that your neighbors bring you goodies at Christmas time.

Gloria, the puzzles that show timing do not have it to time you â€" one just gives an average, then my time and one other does give my time, but I am not in contest with anyone, or the computer.  I do kind of like to know how long the puzzles took me.

Patricia, I try to use the “cup” of the lower eyelid and most times it works, but there are many times the drops go down my cheek, even my finger.  I do have an eye cup but I have a hard time with that.  When I have used it, it works fine.  It’s just too much work to get it in place and to work.

Joan, how nice that F likes to play chess.... my oldest son did as well.... but he had trouble finding anyone to play with.  I did call a retirement village near the school, to see if any of the "retired professional people" there knew of any members that played chess... nary a one.  He finally quit looking for a partner.  Hope F doesn't give it up, winning 2 games is very good, especially being the youngest!  Congratulations for his trying and attitude.

Callie, everything I start this week ends up like your day.  I feel like those little vehicles that the kids had that would bump against something, turn & keep on going.  Trouble is I'm not getting anything to a complete stage, I came to nap an hour ago.

For crossword lovers or cruciverbalists, a cruciverbalists is someone that constructs or enjoys solving crosswords puzzles. Arthur Wynne was a Liverpool journalist that invented the first crossword puzzle. It was published in The New York World on December 21, 1913. His puzzle was first called a “Word-Cross Puzzle” and was designed as a diamond shape. Although Wynne’s invention was initially greeted with skepticism, by the 1920s it had established itself as a popular pastime, entertaining and frustrating generations of cruciverbalists.

We had rain through the day, now it has ceased and the sidewalks are drying up. Had a surprise trip to the doctor today...a really stormy ride.  My Dr. is in Anaheim, an adjoining city to Stanton, and it was really pouring there. Water from curb to curb in some places. The Dr. removed the scab, Arrrrgggghhhh........took a culture and sent me home. I am now on Percocet...a stronger pain medication. Had a great sleep this afternoon.

Had a good lunch downstairs with good company. Sat with our Chaplain and his pretty wife. They are a fun couple and good friends with Gary and Dori. In fact Gary presided at their wedding.

Mycheal, thank you for your gracious Christmas message. I agree on plowing through to keep the roads clear.

I am going to Google the news, then think about fixing a light supper. See you later.

I've finished all my chores except the wrapping.  I still have three things to wrap but I put it all aside and went to lunch with my daughter, granddaughter and grandson by love and marriage.  He treated all of us and it was lovely just to be with them all.

The store is providing a meal for everyone tomorrow and the announcement said "if anyone would like to bring a dessert it will be greatly appreciated...not necessary but appreciated".  I'm taking the rest of the Christmas candy.  If the past repeats itself, there won't be any left to bring home so all the temptation will be out of the house.

I'm really tired tonight and I have to work tomorrow morning so I'm going to try to get to bed early.  I'm having trouble with my DVD player.  I can't get anything to play in color so I watched, "It's a Wonderful Life" last night and "Miracle on 34th St." tonight.  They are both B&W movies anyway.  I still have to see "White Christmas" but I refuse to watch that in B&W.  Clint tried to fix it but no luck.

Anyway, I'm going to say "Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

Another day is coming to a quiet close. I had a long nap this afternoon, but my eyes are ready to close already this evening..must be one of the new medications I have been given. I really need a road map to go through all of them now. I am thankful.

So it is time to say goodnight, and God Bless you all. I pray for your Peace, Good Health, and send you my love. June.

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND.

Youngest son, wife and new puppy dog arrived tonight after a 14 hour drive from Austin.... They will be staying with Dr. Dave and Family.  I sure was relieved they were here safe and sound.

Oliver, the puppy has sure grown since we saw him last....he is nearly twice the size.

Tomorrow night we will get together and have a BBQ dinner.  Brian brought a brisket from Franklin BBQ in Austin.  It is a famous place there and we are sure looking forward to the meal.

I wish you all a good night of rest.

Food For Thought

On Failure
(by Dick Innes)

"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." -- King David (Psalm 51:1-2, NIV)

Richard Halverson in "Pulpit Helps" asked the question: "Who hasn't failed? The Apostle Paul failed, Peter failed, every one of the twelve apostles failed. David, Israel's greatest king, 'a man after God's own heart,' failed. Moses, giant among the Israelites, giver of the law, deliverer of his people, failed. Jacob, father of Israel, failed. Isaac, son of promise, failed. Abraham, progenitor of Israel, father of the faithful, prototype of those who are righteous through faith, failed. Even our first parents, in their human perfection, failed. Who hasn't failed?"

It's not the failure that is the issue. It's what we do when we fail that matters most. We can beat ourselves up if we are perfectionistic. We can laugh it off or deny it if we are too insecure, too afraid, or too proud to admit it. Or we can acknowledge it, confess it to God, get up, brush off the dust, learn from it and grow.

However, if we keep failing at the same point over and over, chances are that it's the symptom of a deeper problem -- or the "fruit of a deeper root." This, too, we need to acknowledge; seek God's help and, if necessary, the help of a pastor to help us get to the root cause of our repeated failure and resolve it at that level.

Whatever the cause of our failure/s, the important thing is to get up just one more time than we have failed or fallen down, learn from the experience and grow.

Remember, too, it's not God's goal to make us good but to make us whole and the more whole and mature we become the less we will fail. Also remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. . .neither is the "making whole" of our life. In fact, it's a life-long process!

"Suggested prayer: "Dear God, thank you that are a friend of sinners, forgiver of failures, giver of mercy to confessors, and healer of wounded hearts. Forgive me where I have failed. Heal me where I am wounded. Deliver me where I am bound. Encourage me where I am afraid. . .set me free and make me whole. Gratefully in Jesus' name. Amen."

Thought of the Day

"Man is bored because he is too big to be happy with that which sin is giving him. God has made him too great, his potential too mighty."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thank you again Joanie for all your work on our behalf.  I like the piece on how we must react to failure.  Sometimes that's the hardest part of failure.

I still have one gift to wrap but I won't have to have my gift setup for that.  Today I'll put all that stuff away and get my bedroom back to normal.  Tonight my daughter comes from Maryland.  She and hubby will stay until tomorrow late afternoon.  We're going to go to lunch together for our celebration and then back to my house to share a little "giving".

I'll be off to Wally World at 9 for my last shift until next Tuesday.  HOORAY!  We have our dinner on the house at work today.  I bet it will busy up the gazoo today!  But I'm glad I won't be there tomorrow.  It will be mostly food and frustration tomorrow.

Coffee's ready!  Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Amy--Good morning.  Hopefully if you dance with that shovel today, you won't have to do it again for a few days.  Glad you got everything done in the city yesterday.  Enjoy your time with your son and daughter-in-love, no matter what day you get together.

It is another beautiful sunny morning here in South Carolina.  Yesterday was great as it got into the mid-60's with no wind so was quite comfortable outside. Today we will only get into the mid-50's but no complaints.

I was very tired last night after only getting three hours of sleep on Wednesday night and then having a very busy day yesterday that I didn't wake up this morning until after 8 am.  Sleeping in is something I very seldom do.  I plan on a much quieter day and staying at home.

I am trying to use the Windows Movie Maker on the videos of the Christmas Concert I took a few days ago as a lady from Church, who missed the concert, called and asked if I could share them with her.  I have never used the application before so there is a learning curve involved.

Shirley, it sounds like your grandson has made his passion for gaming pay off for him.  Nothing like an all expense paid trip.

Joan, I never learned to play chess.  That was quite an accomplishment for F and to win two games in tournament play is a worthy achievement for one so young.  His folks are to be commended for supporting him.

Mycheal, thanks for the nice Christmas greetings.

June, Hope the Percocet stops that terrible pain you have been having.

JaneS, maybe Santa will bring you a new DVD player.  I hope you enjoy the Christmas meal at your store today.  I picked up another grocery order at Walmart yesterday and their parking lot was stuffed.  I sure was glad they have designated spaces for the online grocery pickup. Does your store have this service yet?  It works wonderfully and this is the fourth time we have used it.

JOAN  that was more than I got.

PATRICIA  by the time I can squeeze that vial enough for a drop to come out my hand moves.  I would do better with an eyecup than drops.

MARY ANN  I have seen some games that are timed. If you do not finish before time is over you have to start again. Those are the ones I do not do.

JOAN  a Cinnabon will be great this morning. I like today's Food for Thought. Everyone has failed at something. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Have to get the day moving here, CNA will be here and I have not dressed for the day yet.

Good morning everyone from a dark but much warmer Interior! The cleaner I hired to do a deep clean is a man in his mid-sixties and he came in and got straight to work. I can see why so many and the office here have recommended him. I have my biyearly inspection on the twenty-seventh and then plan to do a massive rehaul of my possessions. It has been a long and frustrating fall and winter so I hope 2017 will be peaceful and less drama.

Farrah is getting to be quite the diva. She gets up in the morning and goes straight to her empty bowl, verbally telling you to get a move on. Then she goes to her treat closet and verbally reminds you that you aren't finished. She doesn't hide from company, she isn't a lap cat but she will accept pets and scratches on her terms from company. When you are in the kitchen or busy in another room, she will go to the closest chair or table and watch you.

With me, she is affectionate in her way. She lays on my feet or behind me on the couch and sometimes plays with my hair all the while purring. Last night she kept bring me her felt mouse. I would thank her and put it on the floor. She would return it to my lap each time I returned it to the floor. Finally, she was satisfied when I pocketed it. No one will accuse her of not providing for her family!

We have had a warm winter and busy holiday season. I've ended up sending my regrets to a few parties, potlucks, and teas and that is my own Christmas present. I attended a couple and that was okay, but I'm more of a one on one than a thirty or more on one type of person. This building is kept well supplied with mini chocolates, hot cocoa packets, tea, tooth paste and brushes in mini packets from local schools and area clubs while we have had strolling hallway carolers from Sweet Adelines and a couple of high schools so it has been a busy season and I will appreciate January's calm.

Jane we always called the 24th, Father's Day when I was still working.

Gloria, I have heard of but never seen or used an eyecup. Since I have dry eye issues I will keep one in mind.

I hope everyone is well and happy and that those with issues find them quickly resolved! Stay warm and enjoy this holiday season in your own way!

Gloria, my timed games do not shut off if I don’t finish in a certain time.  In fact, my games really are jigsaw puzzles.  One tells me the fastest and the average.  I don’t believe the fastest because it often is a minute or two.  One that I learned about from Larry Hanna tells me how long it took me to do the puzzle and there is no comparison with others or the computer.  Those puzzles often take between a half hour and an hour.  A couple are difficult enough to go over an hour.  I don’t have to sit and finish it in one sitting.

Patricia, I think I mentioned elsewhere that I left Kendrick’s food on the stove last night.  This morning I heard him scratching the carpet and he almost never does that.  I think he was scratching around where I have his food and he was trying to find some in the carpet.  He really does his scratching on the scratch pad I have for him and he uses it often.

I had a skin cancer removed yesterday and today I am a sight!  I removed the original bandage from my face this morning and I still don’t look good, but the bandage I have on it looks a lot better than what the nurse put on it.  I was invited to a baby shower tonight and there is no way I am going out in public with this face.  I also am not going to church Sunday.

Patricia, I suppose you called Dec 24th Father’s Day because that is when fathers did their Christmas shopping.  I worked with a man like that.

I have timers set in almost every game I play on the computer. The ones I dislike the most are the one on my mahjong game and the one solitaire game. The Microsoft solitaire features adverts and when they change, it momentarily freezes the game but the timer continues. In mahjong, it merely irritates as I am in the midst of 99 levels and it unfortunately plays into that advance. Since I play games solo or with computer animated players, I don't concern myself with timing unless I'm forced to.

I saw that about Kendrick elsewhere MaryAnn. He was probably thinking you had fallen down on one of the few jobs he's expected of you! ;)  Farrah will come and tell me "Win Win" for meals or simply "Win" for a treat. Even if she never uses normal or expected cat sounds, she gets her point across!  Cats are interesting in how they adapt and how they come to expect your behavior. What is that old saying about dogs have masters and cats have staff?

You are right about so many men shopping on the 24th instead of ahead of time. It is noticeable if you are in that line of work. One time when I worked at the import slash export shop, a young man came up to me inquiring about gifts for his bride to be. We looked at items including Italian music boxes, Russian porcelain, and Turkish coffee sets. He had trouble settling and I finally asked when was the wedding and how long he had been looking. His answers were tomorrow and that afternoon! He settled on a Japanese sake set as he was "running out of time!"  ;D

I am sorry about the skin cancer but glad you caught it and are able to see improvement in your healing. I stayed out of the sun because as a blue eyed, fair skinned redhead, I would either get migraines from bright sunlight or I would sunburn badly, peel worse and be white under all that! I have always felt envious of those able to tan or even enjoy bright sunlight!

Patricia, the skin cancer was not the result of sun, at least I don't think so.  I had a keretosis on my face and had it for many years.  In 2010 the PA in the practice froze it and eventually the freeze wore off.  I never did anything about it but I suppose it gradually festered and I nursed it along.  I called it the "keretosis that went wild".  No matter what I did for it, it did not go away, shrink or get better.  Finally, I called the dermatologist and made an appointment for them to look at it.  I really didn't think it had become cancer, but after they took a biopsy, i received a call that it was both basal cell and squamous (sp?) cancer so I made the appointment for yesterday.  I took off the bandage and my face is much more comfortable now, but I look awful.

I guessed the answer to your riddle to - the letter 'm;.

I am taken from a mine, and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost everybody.

And,

Food For Thought

Open Our Eyes
(By Steve Troxel)

The king of Aram was at war with Israel; but every time he moved his army, the prophet Elisha would inform the Israelites. The king concluded the only way to win the war was to first eliminate Elisha: "'Go, find out where he is,' the king ordered, 'so I can send men and capture him'" (2 Kings 6:13).

When the king found where Elisha was staying, he sent his army to surround the city. When Elisha's servant woke and saw the army, he became very frightened; "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" (2 Kings 6:15). But Elisha comforted his servant by helping him see the real battle.

2 Kings 6:16-17 "'Don't be afraid,' the prophet answered. 'Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' And Elisha prayed, 'O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.' Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."

Our false perception is the biggest cause of fear and frustration; in fact, I might boldly say it is the only cause! If we live without faith, our perception is restricted to what we see with our eyes and hear with our ears. With this limited input, it's no wonder so many live in fear - it's no wonder so many become frustrated and discouraged with their day to day life. But as our faith and understanding of God increase, we are able to trust in what we cannot physically see or hear. We can live in peace, knowing that "the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Battles occur in and around us every day, battles which cause us to become heavily burdened. We desire to walk down God's path, but the pulls and attacks of the world seem relentless. We need to remember that His plan and provision is always perfect - always working toward the good. Somehow we must understand that the battle we see with our physical eyes and analyze with our mind is never the real battle; "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12).

Our spouse, parents, children or co-workers are not the enemy; neither is our church, the government, the economy or our health. These temporal things are not the true cause of our pain nor should they ever become the source of our joy. The real battles are always spiritual...and we are NEVER alone!

Let's draw ever nearer to God until we gain a true understanding of how much He loves us, and how much He is fighting for us; "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." Jesus Christ has already won the ultimate battle! We must now trust Him and give Him more of our heart.

"Heavenly Father, we desire to see You clearly and joyfully walk without fear. We pray that You draw us into Your presence...and open our eyes!"

Have a Christ Centered Day!

Thought of the Day

"Healthy things grow
Growing things change
Changing things challenge us
Challenge forces us to trust God
Trust leads to obedience
Obedience makes us healthy
And healthy things grow"

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a Merry Christmas Eve to one and all!  It's going to be a busy day today beginning with one last trip to WM.  I forgot to get the doggies their specail treat for Christmas and I need something small for their stockings.  Santa can't neglect the pups for Christmas.

I hope you all remember what happened in that stable so many years ago and that brought us where we are today!  Faith is strong and God blesses us in a special way this season!  Even if you don't celebrate these events, they will have affected your lives in other ways.  Be happy in God!

Good morning, Janie.  Of course, Santa has to leave a treat for those darling dogs.  I do remember the reason for the season and know God blesses me in a special way.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Thank you for the good wishes.  Your meal sounds delicious.  Enjoy memories you make with your family.

JOAN, EVERYFRIENDS....
...good Christmas Eve day morning....

Just had my faith and goodwill restored...
My pet insurances have been, and still are with Petplan, one of our best known and most expensive Pet Insurance companies.....Well our Toby's annual policy dropped through our letterbox last week, of course it always goes up but, they had deducted the " multiple " dog discount, so as we are now with just the one dog, not the two or three when the dogs first got added on, I notified a woman at the other end of the phone to tell her we are not entitled to this now as if they double check the records they will see we recently lost our Benji and we are now to just the one dog with them, our Toby....so wanting to put the record straight so as not to have to pay this money back as and when they realise their mistake....While I was on the phone the lady asked me if I would take their three question survey, so I quickly butted in with my own personal feedback of, one of my American forum members who lost his dog two weeks before we lost our dog had a wonderful surprise from his dogs food distribution company and once they got hold of the info that one of their clients had lost his dog sent a lovely display of flowers and a condolence for his loss card...I thought what a lovely gesture so I told this lady so, I told her Petplan is the top pet insurance company ( meaning they can afford it, and should, and could be taking the lead, ) yet they dont do anything like that when their customers lose one of their dogs, told her it would mean such a lot at the time, (whilst holding back my tears,) she said yes, thank you, I shall pass this on to my superiors....Well the post has just come through our letterbox and an envelope with a good sized condolence card with not only condolences - sympathy on the loss of our Benji but also the loss of our Megan three Christmases ago, ( although only signed with one name, guess the young lady I spoke with, and not all staff, ) plus two sachets of " forget me not " seeds, it maybe three years late for Megan but the goodwill gesture is still there...Don't think this is a new thing from this company as both the card and the seed packets are imprinted with the company name of Petplan, so they must have done this as the norm, somewhere along the line we got left out....But better late than never and my feedback didn't fall on deaf ears....

Now I am waiting on the flower bouquet to turn up on my doorstep, ok, I shan't push my luck..... ;) ;D

Good morning everyone, hope no one has to hit the stores for last minute purchases today. About all I have to do is fix the stuffed celery this afternoon.

PATRICIA  I had used an eye cup more than 60 years ago when ai had a broken blood vessel in one eye. I have seen in catalogs where they not have something that fits over an eye and you put the eye drops into it and the drops go right into the eye. It works with the eye bottle drops but wonder if it would work with the vials the Rustassis comes in.

JOAN  for the past year or so I have a CNA 3 days a week but starting next week I will get one every day. I have had the one I have for a year and she is  OK but rather talk than do anything. I will have a different one the other 2 days, hope this one can cook. The nurse that came here from my new med. Insurance said I needed more help so she got in touch with the company I get the CNA from. I had a call yesterday telling me about the more hours.

MARY ANN  that sounds like Jig Zone. I do not pay attention to the time on that one. I do not believe the fastest time on that. Is the other one BrainBreakers? I have that one, too, thanks to Larry.  I do not have the tiome showing on that one. I have added so many of my favorite pictures to that one I never get bored doing the same ones all the time. Depends on how much time I have to play how many pieces I choose to have. Hope and pray they go all that cancer off your face.

PATRICIA  I have no timers on the MahJong games I have. I know the answer to that riddle, just saw that on a newsletter yesterday.

JOAN  love chuckles. Will send that to both my DILs. Food for Thought is another keeper. Good quote and so true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  hope you can get into WM before the crowd gets there. I do know the reason we celebrate Christmas and it is not for the gifts people give and receive but but for the  gift of the birth of Jesus.

LLOYD  sounds like a feast at your home today. I have not cooked a 20 pound turkey I many years.

JACKIE  nice gesture. Hope you find a good place to plant the Forget me not seeds.

Have a good day everyone. I will not be here tomorrow and I want to wish you all a very happy Christmas with family and friends.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  What a nice gesture on the part of your PetPlan insurance.

Gloria--Good morning.  That's good news that you will have help everyday.   Enjoy your time tomorrow with family.  Thanks very much for the nice JL card.

“A great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.’” Luke 2:13-14

Words: James Montgomery, in his Sheffield newspaper, Iris, Christmas Eve, 1816. It was published again in Christian Psalmist, 1825. Stanza 5 is from The Christmas Box, 1825

Music: “Regent Square,” Henry T. Smart, in Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship (London: 1867)

Angels from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth.

Refrain
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds, in the field abiding,
Watching o’er your flocks by night,
God with us is now residing;
Yonder shines the infant light:

Refrain

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations;
Ye have seen His natal star.

Refrain

Saints, before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear;
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear.

Refrain

Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you; break your chains.

Refrain

Though an Infant now we view Him,
He shall fill His Father’s throne,
Gather all the nations to Him;
Every knee shall then bow down:

Refrain

All creation, join in praising
God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising
To th’eternal Three in One.

Refrain

Hi everyone on a beautiful Christmas Eve morning here in South Carolina.  It started out at 53 degrees around 7:30 this morning and headed to 68 degrees this afternoon and only getting down to 50 degrees tonight.

I made a quick trip to Walmart before 8 am this morning for a few items in the grocery department.  I wanted rolls for our ham sandwiches and found some that looked delicious only to find out when I got home they were more like dinner rolls but they are going to have to do.  I got there before 8 am and by the time I left about 15 minutes later people were beginning to pour into the store.  Today I will prepare or help Pat prepare a few things for our dinner tomorrow.  I know she plans on baking a pumpkin pie for Scott and I got things to make my favorite holiday 5 cup salad.

I have about decided not to attend the Candlelight service at Church this evening as there will be a large crowd and parking will be a problem unless I go very early.  If I don't go I will attend the Christmas service tomorrow.

Joan, I predict you would like the online shopping for groceries as it is much easier at home than walking or riding through those long isles.

Gloria, I pay no attention to the timers or others time in solving the jigsaw or other puzzles.  I am not competing with anyone. I won't play a game that times out on me and I feel hurried.  I have had enough hurry in my life. Glad to see you are getting more help with the CNA.

Jeanne, thanks for posting that good old hymn.

Mary Ann, someone working a jigsaw puzzles in a couple of minutes must have chosen to work one with 10 pieces or something.  I like the puzzle to be about 150 to 160 pieces and also like where you must turn the pieces.

Mary Ann and Patricia, I have on occasion been one of those men doing my wife's Christmas shopping on the 24th.

Sandy, hope you have a nice Christmas with your family.

JaneS, well spoken on what we need to remember about Christmas and the reason for the season.

Lloyd, how many are you having for dinner with 10 pounds of potatoes and a 20 pound turkey?  That will be some meal.  Hope you have a wonderful time.

Jackie, that was a nice experience you had with the pet insurance company.  Too bad they missed you three years ago but better late than never.

A friend just sent this to me and I think it is very appropriate for the time of the year as well as interesting:

MAGNIFICENT LYRICS AT CHRISTMAS

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10-11

Every Christmas Eve service, the members of our church are blessed to hear our Worship Pastor sing “O Holy Night.” This has become such a tradition at our church that the thought of a Christmas Eve service without it is, well, hard to imagine!

Here are some interesting tidbits:

On Christmas Eve in 1906, Reginald Fessenden, broadcast the first radio program, where he played “O Holy Night” on the violin. Therefore, the carol is the first piece of music to be broadcast on radio.
“O Holy Night” (“Cantique de Noël”) was set to music by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the lyrics of a French poem written by Placide Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet. Cappeau had been asked to write a Christmas poem by a parish priest.
And here is something I’ve never been able to figure out. Since “O Holy Night” was composed in French, why does the English translation rhyme?
The music is so overpowering in its beauty that we sometimes fail to notice the perfection of the lyrics. Read these lyrics, a magnificent poem, and contemplate the wonder and blessing of Jesus’ birth.

Oh holy night! The stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angels’ voices!

Oh night divine, Oh night when Christ was born;

Oh night divine, Oh night, Oh night Divine.

Good Christmas Eve Morning,

'Tis foggy in central Oklahoma.   Very eerie when I went out to get the paper.

Yesterday was the most fantastic birthday I've had in many a year!   The family brought dinner from Olive Garden and a beautiful bouquet of red and white roses.  After dinner, we played a rousing game of Mexican Train dominoes - lots of laughs and teasing.

Now I'm looking forward to going to son/dil's tonight for an equally fantastic Christmas Day tomorrow.  I've been told that there will be a traditional dinner of ham/turkey - and "all the trimmings".    Best of all,  I don't have to take anything - just help with the preparation while I'm there.

:christmastree: Merry Christmas To All
May your Day be Merry and Bright   :christmastree:

Good morning Callie.  Belated Happy Birthday.  Since it's not in your profile (to get on the calendar) I didn't know.  Merry Christmas and enjoy your time with family tomorrow.

Larry--Good morning.  Thanks for the interesting facts and the link to Celine Dion singing.  Once the holidays are over, I'm going to try that WM online grocery ordering.  I used to always attend midnight Mass.  I had to stop s few years ago.  Parking is atrocious, and to get a seat and now have to stand you have to go about two hours early.

Gloria, I ignore the time on Jigzone, as you do.  One puzzle I like is from All Star Puzzles.  They have one new puzzle a day and there is no time shown.  A thing I like about that one is that you can save the puzzle so if you want to quit in the middle, you can, then come back to where you left off.  One that I copied from Larry Hanna (and I’ll have to get the info later - Jigsaw Explorer - Online Jigsaw Puzzles) has a lot of puzzles, a new one each day and a special new one each Friday.  That one also if you leave, your place is saved for when you return.  I like to think the doctor got all of the cancer.  On the surface the spot wasn’t so big, but it went down a bit.  I have stitches about three inches long.  It is close enough to my eye to irritate it but I can see out of the eye OK.  I have no pain, fortunately.

Gloria, that is a nice Jacquie Lawson Christmas card you posted â€" thank you.

Jeanne Lee, I love “Angels from the Realms of Glory” and was singing along before I saw the words.  Of course, I only know the first verse.  Thank you.

In the midst of typing, Dot brought me a box of chocolates.  We adults are not exchanging gifts this year for the first time, but she just had to give me the chocolates â€" and they are much appreciated.

If I don’t get back here again today, I want to wish everyone and your families, a very Merry Christmas.  I hope those who want will be able to get to church tomorrow.  I would be going except for the way I look following the surgery on my face.  I don’t want to scare everyone.

Mary Ann

Jackie that was nice on your insurance to do that. I get a card after each time it is a one way trip. One I still haven;t opened from Buddy's last trip.

Good morning, Mary Ann--I'm sure your stitches and bruising wouldn't scare anybody.  Being that it was deep, it's going to take extra time to heal.  How nice that Dot brought you some chocolates.

Amy--Good morning.  Your noon meal sounds yummy.  I'm having some shepherd's pie that a neighbor brought to me.  Hopefully you won't have to dance with the snowblower again this weekend.

I don't know why all the bad news in my family seems to occur around the holidays but that is the way it is so I deal with it.  Just had a phone call from my niece-in-law in Wichita to tell me my last living brother is in hospice care with pulmonary fibrosis with a prognosis of 3-6 months.  It is not surprising since he is 92 but still it makes me sad.  He and I are the last of my birth family.

I want to wish all of you a good Christmas and good times to come in the new year.

PHYLLIS....
....Christmas for many, is not what it is all cracked up to be......it is not all about celebrations and partying...there are so many lonely and sad people out there having to find their best ways of getting through this holiday period....Whatever else that is going on in our lives doesn't all of a sudden stop, disappear, or get put on hold until Christmas is over....

I am sorry to hear of the unwelcome news, re, your only surviving birth family member...your brother...

Just past noon here on the left coast, and I keep dozing off. Had a bad night. Was told this morning I can take the pain pills every six hours, but I'm going to try just the two a day, morning and night.

I just picked up our weekly calendar. It states that Monday is an Employee holiday. It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Hi Bis, I am sure there will be a substitute crew on hand. I know the Clinic will be open, and many people here will need to be fed, medicated, and assisted in various areas.

Gary and Dori just arrived and brought me a couple of Christmas gifts, and
chatted, then had to get over to their Church to prepare for tomorrow
While here, Gary set up my email and Srs. and Friends on my laptop. Which I am using for this message. I keep reaching for a mouse.   :-\

Came by to wish all a very Merry Christmas Eve and tomorrow a Wonderful Christmas Day.  We are expecting T-storms and may break a heat record..... I'm hemming a pair of slacks to wear with flats instead of heels.... I shortened them while ago but not enough...  :
