Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's bagels to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “December” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

Birthday

A fellow who just reached his 120th birthday was giving a press conference to the assembled media.
"Excuse me, sir," one of the reporters said, "but how did you come to live to be 120?
"It's actually quite simple," the old feller replied. "I just never argue."
"That's impossible," the reporter responded. "There must be something else, like diet, or meditation, or something. Just not arguing won't keep you alive for 120 years!"
The old fellow stared hard at the reporter for several seconds.
"Hmmm," he finally shrugged, "maybe you're right."

Food For Thought

Christ’s Body

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Mark 14:12-26

Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
Mark 14:22
As a little girl, Olesya often observed holy communion at her grandmother’s church. As a young adult, though, she drifted away from the religious life of her grandmother. But somehow she was still interested in what communion was all about. She called our radio talk-show to find out more about the sacrament. During the conversation I had a chance not only to ¬respond to her questions but also share the gospel of Jesus with her.
The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is a time for thanksgiving. We gather around the Lord’s table to be vividly reminded of what Jesus did on our behalf.
During his last supper with his disciples Jesus used vivid imagesâ€"bread and wine. Bread is still a popular food item in Middle Eastern cuisineâ€"and around the world. After giving thanks to God, Jesus broke the bread. It’s a profoundly symbolic act pointing to his upcoming death on the cross. Then he gave the pieces of bread to his disciples: “Take it; this is my body.” The bread is a symbol of his body, broken for us.
This is the gospel story in a nutshell. When we participate in the Lord’s Supper, we are still offered the bread that points us to Jesus’ body. We are encouraged to turn to him and partake in his sacrifice for us with ¬humility and thanksgiving.
Father, thank you for your Son’s body that was ¬broken for us. Remind us daily of what Jesus did for us on the cross. In his name we pray. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“There will always be moments in life so packed with joy you’ll find it impossible to contain the happiness in your heart.  Be in the moment and remember it for the days you want to cry and shout, “my life stinks!”

Good morning everyone.

I sure didn't want to get up this early as it makes for a long day. A day of rest here, I did start the spare ribs last night so a slow cooking to finish them off today. I remember my Mom would stuff spare ribs and roll them up into bundles, goodness they were delicious!

Phyllis , love the graphic and your right, just top it off with a cold glass of milk

Gloria, we would have fun in the choco shop, lots to choose from then go next door for a delicious lunch.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  Since you got up so early, maybe you can get a nap later today.  Those spare ribs sound so good.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and running, too.  Today is my day to read the Old Testament lesson at church and it's also my day to take soup for the Soup Sale.  I've read over the reading a couple times and the soup is all packed up.

This afternoon, I'm going back up to the Country Market to get another wreath.  This time it's a large one to hang on the end of my house that faces the driveway and the road.  My neighbor across the street will help me hang it in a way that I don't have to drive any nails in the siding.  I've always wanted to do this but could never figure out how.  I'm also going to hang my Christmas flags today.

As for the candy making, the only thing I have to do is spread a few more peanut butter saltines and the Gluten free ones with natural pB for my grandniece.

I better get moving if I'm going to be ready to leave for church in time.  Have a good day Everyfriend!

Amy, it sure would be easier to just visit the chocolate factory instead of doing all this extra work!

Good morning, Janie.  You have a pretty busy day ahead.  Visiting the chocolate factory is less work, but those chocolates don't have "made with love" in them.  Your house is going to look so pretty with all those wreaths and flags.

That's Amazing!

When Mary was pregnant, her five year old, Billy, was utterly amazed and a little bit disbelieving that his sister was growing in his mom's tummy.

So one day when the baby was especially active, she asked Billy to place his tiny hands on her tummy to feel the baby kick.

But when he did, the baby was suddenly still.

"Oh, Billy, she must have decided to take a nap," shrugged his mother.

"A nap"? Billy marveled. "You mean there's a bed in there too?”
c u later have a good day

Hi everyone.  It is going to be a very chilly and rainy day here in South Carolina.  It is not suppose to get above 50 degrees and that is fairly early this morning and then into the 40's the rest of the day.  Once again I plan on going to Sunday School but will leave early to come home and get Pat so she can attend church with me.  We will have to get something to eat before we come home and then just have a quiet rest of the day.

There were many cars on our street yesterday as people came to see our neighbor's home on the Tour of Homes.  A couple of the ladies in my Sunday School class were helping with it.  It obviously was a big success.  Downtown yesterday afternoon they had their annual Christmas parade.  I was glad I was at home.

Joan, unless our neighbor invites us to come over and see her house we won't be seeing it.  We were not going to pay $20 each for a ticket to view just one house and we just aren't up to taking the tour.  The chair that Pat got is more like an office chair that adjust upward and we hope it will be high enough for her to work at the cabinets and stove.  I didn't get it put together yesterday.

Jackie, glad you had such a nice meal and good time.

Callie, I have participated in the type of Christmas exchange you describe but had never heard it called by that name.  It can be a lot of fun until you get something you would like to keep and someone takes it from you on their turn.  You were fortunate to get such quick medical help.

deAngel, sorry to read that your PT doesn't seem to be helping.  When I started working for the Federal Government in 1962, right after I graduated from college, it was a salaried job and I just calculated that based on the 2040 hours of work in a year I was making $2.80 per hour. Prior to that I had worked on the farm but received no set pay although was provided everything I needed, including a little spending money when I went to college.

Patricia, what a frightening experience with the flood waters.  Like Hal I have wanted my house at the top of the hill.  Of course, when I lived in Moore, Oklahoma it was flat land all around.

Joan and Phyllis, a perfect graphic for this time of year and the type of balanced diet I can relate to.

Lloyd, that is a cute story.

Amy, glad to see you didn't miss the opportunity to get some chocolate at the chocolate factory.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Cute story.

Good morning, Phyllis.

Larry--Good morning.  I don't blame you for not paying to see your neighbor's house.  I sure hope that chair works for Pat in the kitchen.

Good Morning Everyone!
Still plenty chilly and rainy.  Guess it will be that way all day.  Suppose to clear up tomorrow.

Got to finish getting ready for church.  Wife has greeting this morning so we have to be there early.

Oh, Larry, I am not quite on top of the hill about five houses down about half way down the hill.

Good morning everyone,
I was a sleepy head this morning. Cloudy and cold here. I woke early and when I went to get out of bed it was cold so got back under the covers and went back to sleep. I did get up and turn the thermostat up before getting back there though.

HAL  what a wonderful way for all the family to see your granddaughter get married. Would have cost a fortune for everyone to go over to France.

LARRY  the one thing I do not like is that all my gmail comes in on the iPhone and I just keep deleting them. Re they really gone ot taking up space on the phone?

JACKIE  love your new avatar. Glad you had a good meal at that MS Christmas party.

MARY ANN  like you, I tell my family not to buy me anything for Christmas of my birthday. I do not need anything, no more things. A nice visit is all I want at any time of the year.

GLORIA de  my back got worse after I had PT. The shots in my back did nothing either. Will be seeing a pain doctor next month.

AMY  heading for the hidey hole to see if there are any of those cherries left.

JANE  raspberry must taste great, love that flavor.

JUNE  sorry your leg is still painful.

PHYLLIS  love your graphic for this week. Sounds like a great diet to me.

JOAN  a bagel will be great this morning. Love that man's last reply in Chuckles. Christ's Body, I had never read of heard it described so simply before. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  if they had samples at the chocolate factory who would need lunch?

LLOYD  that was cute.

LARRY  around here at Christmas parties they have a Yankee Swap. Everyone brings a gift and they go into a pile. Everyone gets a number and when theirs is call they go and get something from that pile. Open it and then the next one does the same thing. The second one has the choice of keeping it or swapping with the first one. It is funny how one gift can keep changing hands.

Dot and I have already done our usual Sunday morning - church then OTB.  We had Tuna Melt and Coconut Cream Pie this morning - we split them.  One week I buy and the next week Dot buys so one person doesn't have the burden every week.

Our temp is at 37 degrees now at 11:30 and I doubt it will get higher than 40 today.

I told my family I would prefer "services" for Christmas.  There is so much that I cannot do - or reach.  Tom is a great delegator but also there is much he can't do because of a bad back.  The bad part is that no one lives near so it is inconvenient for all.  If Annie needs money, she will come to clean - and does a good job, but there is no set day she comes.  We do manage, however, and I'm not complaining.  I'm still able to live in my own home and that's worth a lot to me.

Gloria--It's good you have those geemogotchees.:)  I did quite a bit of online Christmas shopping this morning.  One more go around, and I think I will be done.

Mary Ann--It's great you and Dot get together for a meal and to catch up.  Services are a wonderful gift, IMO, when we get to the point there are things we just cannot do.

Good Morning,

Interesting how many different names there are for the same game with gifts.   Those posts reminded me of one summer when my husband was in summer school and we lived in a student apartment building with other families from different parts of the country who were there for the same reason.
We had several conversations about this sort of thing.   Some prepared dinner and others fixed supper.  Some ate hamburgers on rolls and others on buns - and vice versa for the hot bread served with a meal.   I know there were other examples but I can't think of them.

I always enjoy reading the British words Jackie uses for various items.

Hope to finish the decorating this afternoon.  I'm really keeping it simple this year.  I've also done more on-line shopping than usual.  Still need to order and print out some gift cards/certificates.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable day.

Callie, I grew up with a davenport in our living room.  Now everyone calls it a couch.  Someone told me that davenport was a Midwest term.  I often wonder when I use that term if others in other parts of the country know what I mean.

Mary Ann,  I would but the alternate to "couch" I hear most is "sofa".

Callie--When we moved from NY to Arkansas we found they used many different terms for things we referred to as something else.  My decorating is going to be VERY simple this year.

Mary Ann--Some folks I know use those three terms--davenport, couch and sofa.  One family calls that piece of furniture a divan.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of December 4
Post by: JaneS on December 04, 2016, 01:57:38 PM
When I was growing up we had a davenport in the living room but my best friend had a sofa and my boyfriend liked to entertain on the couch.  Another friend had the same kind of thing in her living room but it had an Italian name which I've forgotten.  My mother's good friend always asked if we'd like to sit on the divan.  What an eclectic bunch we were.

Also, we cooked on a gas stove and my grandmother had a wood burner but my friend's mother always cooked on the Range.  I thought that's where the cowboys were.

At home we slept in beds but at Girl Scout camp we slept in cots and they looked pretty much the same to me.  We always had supper in the evening but my friends sometimes invited me to stay for dinner.  Language is so much fun!

At girl scout camp, we slept in bunks and cots were what you saved for guests.  :)

I've always loved hearing about differences between folks, and I've always loved history and how we as people are shaped by their environment.

My shopping was completed back in October when I sent out Christmas cash and one engagement gift. The youngest in our family is twenty-one and thousands of miles away, so cash is always welcomed. I don't decorate; there are trees, bulbs, and swags enough all over the building.  I did bake several types of cookies and some sweet potato fudge to go out with the cookie platters the crafts club always makes for volunteers, police, fire and ambulance.

As I was on the other side of holiday sales for so long, I seriously enjoy not having to be in those malls during the holiday season. Unfortunately for those in retail, the season begins the beginning of August and finishes the month of January with sales and inventory.

Farrah had a moment this morning. She tossed her felt mouse all about and growled impressively while doing it and she sat beside the closet where her treats are and tried to look very somber and downtrodden, crying "Win," until she saw I wasn't that impressed. So she decided a nap was in order instead.

Radioman--Glad you got another Santa "gig", but nine hours is a long time.

Angelface--Good for you having your shopping done, nor do I do the extensive baking I used to do at Christmas time.  Farrah is trying to outsmart you.:)

Well, I have a wreath on the front door and one on the back door (where everyone comes in) and now I have a nice BIG one on the end of the house toward my driveway.  My son came over and hung it and then he took all the bags of leaves away with him.  I hung the Christmas flags on the porch.  I now have "FROSTY THE SNOWMAN", O CHRISTMAS TREE" and "JOY TO THE WORLD" decorating the outside of my house.  I don't look like Scrooge any more.  Maybe sometime this week, I'll get the candles in the windows.  I can't do any inside decorating until I finish the chocolate because it takes up too much space.

And I better get back to it or I'll never get it finished.

Good late afternoon, quite cool again to day, with the wind. Maybe light snow tomorrow. I have been so tired this weekend, I guess being out every day last week caught up with me. Tomorrow and other appointment.  Wed. Lassies Christmas party and of course Homemakers on Friday. the following Friday is out HM Christmas party.  Somewhere in there before Christmas I have another RH Christmas party. Then comes Jan. and nothing going on.

Phyllis thanks for graphic.

Joan, I enjoyed good reading, thanks again.

Lloyd, funny story.

Larry, your neighbor should have Open House for the neighbors. Even the years Cyriel passed, we had open house Christmas week for the neighbors.

Gloria, I also got up and put the heat on and went back to bed. I had been awake most of the night with restless leg.

MaryAnn, when I was asked what I wanted, I said dominos, I do not know what happen to my set.  We are going to be taught how to play Mex. train, at Homemakers in Jan. I also want to stay in my house as long as I can. Some things I cannot do, but I can takecare of myself, wash cloths, and pick up around the house. cook light meals. Go out once in a while, to lunch. As I have wrote before I depend on my beautiful neighbors.  I spent 3 weeks in rehab, and that was enough, they got me up at 7 put me in a wheel chair, had to call if I needed to go to the bathroom, got put to bed at 9. Given a shower twice a week. If I had stayed another week I would have been a cripple. I pray I never have to go back there. The one thing that saved my  mind, I had my lap top, and knitting.

speak many different languages,

(But we all call it "English")

And not only do we "speak" it differently,

JeanneP we also have settees here but they are a much smaller version of a sofa...they usually don't have arms and are only big enough for 2 people.  My grandmother also called them "courting settees".  My niece just passed one on to my daughter that had belonged to our great aunt.

This has been an "off" day..I don't like anything, especially ME.Got all dressed for Church, went down to the Clinic and got the Iodine treatment on my leg, came home undressed, put on slouch clothing, and have done nothing all day long. Angelface, thank you for the lesson but I prefer to remember things as they were when I was young.  I loved the diversity then and I still love the diversity.  We are all different and some of my best memories are learning why my friends and their families called things by the names they did.  We are as different as we are alike.  And I love people because of the diversity.  I don't think any of us who post here are like any others and that makes each person special.

When I was in high school, I think the only foreign language offered was French.  Many of us took Latin, not as a foreign language but as a basis for our own language.  Now many languages are offered.  It amused me when I flew to Canada a few years ago that while our airlines offered the information in both English and Spanish, in Canada the second language was French - or French Canadian.

We had a new davenport in the living room when I was young.... exciting newl purchase that made into a bed!  My gr-mother had a "fainting couch" that opened up into a bed.  My sister had recovered it when Mom & Dad got it from my gr-mother's estate..... only after Mom & Dad died, my sister completely forgot it opened.  I tried to show her when the real estate lady was there & she knew all about them... so helped me lift the raised head rest & the seat part opened out flat.  My husband took measurements a few years before and made us one but it doesn't open.... it is still a fainting couch and he made me a narrow settee to go with it.

I wish I had learned another language, we had French, Spanish & Latin offered in my high school but I didn't have enough hours to do everything I wanted.  Mary Ann, when I was young the prayer books we had (Catholic church) had Latin on one side & English on the other so we learned a little that way.  Don't recall when that ended, no more Mass in Latin.  I thought it was a good thing to go into a church anywhere in the world & find the same service/language.  Back in those days we carried our own prayer books.

June, I hope you get your pep back... medicine sure can hit the wrong way and cause as many problems as they cure.

Good for you being Santa again, Don, my brain is scrambled this week & first thing that went through my head was, "what is Don doing in England????"  Shook my head & cleared up.   :idiot2:

Hal, we only had misty rain, not enough to wet the ground.  I'm having to carry buckets of water to my new little transplanted trees.... got the hoses blown out & disconnected.

Lloyd, I copied your story for my gr-daughter that just had a baby... expect she's had some questions from their 3 year old that knew where the baby was but don't think they understand clearly, right?

Jenny, I check the Monarch Pass view cam every day, the snow is beautiful ... near white out yesterday & day before.  Those graders sure do a good job keeping the highway cleared, but I wouldn't want to drive an 18 wheeler (or my elephant) over that pass with snow & ice.   :o

My washer & dryer should both be stopped so better go fold & dump the other load in the dryer.  Still doing extras used in the RV.... since it probably won't be going anywhere for a while.

Joan, I have 2 of your "tid-bits" on WordPad to send on but copied them very early this morning & I don't remember what they are.... will have to re-read & forward.  Thank you.

Phyll, I am so impressed with your creative graphics... wish I could remember how to do any of those things we learned in "Steps".  I have to go down to my old Vista computer to use the PSP installed on it.  Bought 2 newer versions for this one that is now Windows 10... but I can't figure how to set up the work space (or what ever it is called).  Ah, well, bigger challenges these days!

Sweet dreams to all, and God Bless!  Shirley

I'm going to bid you all an early Good Night, also.  It's been a very busy day for me too....a lot of running in and out and climbing up on ladders.  I'm going to hit the hay early and try to get an early start tomorrow.

So...Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

Thank you for your comments, re, the Christmas meal.....yes there was some concern over one lady who was missing, the driver went to collect her but no one could find her.....We later heard she hadn't long come out of hospital so couldn't attend but she did relay her Happy Christmas message to all who did attend.....There was a mixture at the lunch, the MS'ers, their partners - hubbies -wives, carer's...the MS mini bus drivers, and of course the MS team staff, treasurer - support officer - vice chairman -  fundraising officer, of which many suffer MS themselves...all in all it was a successful do....

Good Monday morning, Everyfriend.  There's sweet rolls to accompany your coffee or tea . I wish everyone a nice day!!

You Might be a Preacher if....

- You've ever dreamed you were preaching only to awaken and discover you were
- A church picnic is no picnic
- You've ever wondered why people couldn't die at more appropriate times
- It's Sunday, but Monday's coming!
- Instead of getting "ticked off," you get "grieved in your spirit."
- You've ever been tempted to take an offering at a family reunion
- You'd rather talk to people with every head bowed and every eye closed.
- You've ever wanted to "lay hands" on a deacon's neck.
- Everybody stops talking when you enter the room.
- You've ever wanted to give the sound man some feedback of your own.
- You've ever stretched the truth at a funeral.
- You'd rather negotiate with terrorists than the church organist.
- You've ever suffered anxiety attack while playing Bible Trivia Pursuit.
- You get your second wind when you say "And in conclusion..."
- The ideas you bounce off board members really do.
- You've seen more religion at a pool hall than you've seen at a Church Softball Game.
- Your Bible has more side notes than printed text.
- You've ever wanted to fire the church and form a congregation search committee.
- You jiggle all the toilet handles before you leave the church building.

Food For Thought

Willing to Not Be Blind and Deaf
(By Michael Newnham)

We pulled into the skatepark and I expressed mild annoyance that "my' parking spot was taken.

I can see the skaters from there and the old oaks next to it provide both a windbreak and shade when the sun is high in the afternoon sky.

It's "my" spot, but the skating must go on.

I pulled into a spot facing across from it and noted that the car in my spot looked "lived in"...not just because it was old and worn, but because someone was living in it.

While T skated I watched her load and unload things from the car...watched her repair the black plastic garbage bags that now patched the back windows that no longer roll up and fix up her "home" as she preferred.

She had set up a portable camp stove next to her car and was making what appeared to be a soup in an old aluminum pot.

The smell of the cooking onions made it feel warmer outside than it was.

I watched her dance to music I couldn't hear.

It dawned on me me that not only was she dancing to music I couldn't hear, but that she may as well have been invisible as well.

People walked by her as if she wasn't there, not seeing that there was someone living in a Honda, not noticing someone trying to make an afternoon meal from ingredients that came from God knows where.

An invisible woman danced to inaudible music while the world passed her by.

I damned the blindness and deafness to hell and pulled up alongside her.

"Can I get you anything...can I help you?"

"You just did", she smiled.

She pulled a bare, steaming turkey leg from the pot and waved us away.

She smiles when she speaks and her dance comes from the music in her soul.

I can't hear it, but it's real enough to bring her joy.

I wonder if I've ever heard it...

Some things are not for sale on Black Friday...

Fifteen thousand for a piece of sod;
Thirty thousand I paid to begin a house;
A dollar I gave to God.

JOAN....
...good morning....

All I can comment on re,...Thought of the Day....is, " get our priorities right...."
.................................
Took a fall half hour ago, never hurt myself just after shock, and the top - join of my right leg is number - ache - ier than usual as it was that, that got twisted as I went down...Think my slipper-ed right foot got stuck on the carpet, I kindof done a side twist, went straight down on my left side, just missing my head on our doubled opening lounge glass panelled door, one half was open, the side closer to me was closed, that is what I always fear, catching my head and splitting it open, or, knocking myself out......

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Our temps are in the mid 30s today but thankfully no snow is in the prediction for the coming week.  Today I'll finish up my niece's chocolate order and finish packing it.  And, hopefully, get most of the items packed to give them when I meet them next Thursday.

This Thursday, the dogs get beautified at the groomer.  After i drop them off, I'm going to swing by the people groomer and see if they can find my ears.  I know they're there somewhere but I haven't seen them in days.

I better get this day started.  Make it a good one, Everyfriend!

Jackie, I'm sorry you fell but relieved that you didn't do any serious damage.  Do you use a cane when you are walking....even inside the house?

Jane, I will go to the people groomer next week.  I've lost my ears, too.

Good morning, Lloyd.

Amy, I think new fallen snow is beautiful but must admit I'm very happy to no longer have to dance with the snow shovel.  Take care when you are outside.

Good morning, Joan.  Sweet rolls will be just about perfect this morning.   :eat:

Good Morning Everyone!

Jackie, sorry to hear you took a tumble.  Grateful that you had no serious injury.

Lloyd, your link wouldn't work for me.  I wouldn't want to mess with your Granddaughter, she obviously knows how to take care of herself.

I have to go to the skin lady this morning.  Let her and jack frost make me a speckled old man.  I have a few spots on my face that need looking after.  Poor thing has to look at an old ugly man without flinching.  She is a nice lady as well as a doctor.  I see her husband this coming Friday so he or one of partners can give me a shot in the back.

Amy, doesn't your husband get upset with all this dancing with "others" all the time.  You are quite the flirt.  ;)

Janie, Phylis, I hope you find those ears.  Those things kinda come in handy some time.

Coffee ready and it will hit the spot, rain continues to fall and it is chilly, chilly.  Although rain is suppose to stop today and it will clear up but there is another, colder, front on the way. Winter is here, ready or not.

“It's a Marshmallow world in the winter when the snow seems to cover the ground” that is what it looks like this morning when I pulled up my shades. Yes it is snowing. Maintenance man  has been out already clearing the walkways. The weather guessers were right about the prediction of snow by morning. So pretty but glad I do not have to go out today. Tomorrow I do have an appointment.  Just heard that it will turn to rain later.

MARY ANN  like you I would prefer services, that would mean more than opening a package to see what is inside. There are so many things I cannot do and my CNA is not allowed to do. Like moving furniture to clean behind and under. I can just imaging the dust bunnies hiding there.

JOAN  I am prepared for winter cold but really not liking the idea of going out unless I have to.

DON  great you got back to Santa again. Hope it was not a one time deal. That mall that said they didn't want you back lost the best Santa they ever had.

Don't know if I have the energy this year to get my tree up. It is in a bag with the lights and ornaments on but it does mess up this room.  No matter where I put it it would be in the way.

JUNE  this morning I feel like you yesterday. I have to go get dressed for the day but feel more like going back to bed.

JANE  like you I like the differences in people. Makes life more interesting.

SHIRLEY  when I first moved to this town the mass was given in French and then in English. There were a lot of Canadians in this area but as city people started moving in the French was dropped and now everything is in English. Like you I copy/paste many of Joan's posts onto notepad to share with others.

JOAN  a sweet roll will be just what I need this morning. A bit of sweetness might give me the energy to get going. Wonder if Preachers ever have those thoughts in Chuckles. Food for Thought is just that.  That lady living in her car was happy when someone asked if she needed anything. Too many ignored her. Sad how a homeless person is treated. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JACKIE  so sorry you fell. That is the one thing that scares me. I am so careful where and how I walk. Like to be close to something I can grab hold of and then I always use my rollator. Take care.

AMY  just looked out and it looks like the fine snow coming down will be turning to rain later.

JANE  the hairdresser that comes here likes ears showing, I don't. My CNA had a good friend who is a hairdresser and she cut my hair last time. She cut it thee way I asked her too and it is time for another one. Hair is finally starting to cover my ears again. No more ears sticking out soon.

LLOYD  good morning.

PHYLLIS  you and me both, no more shoveling snow. Now it is getting out to appointments in winter. I am not comfortable being driven by someone I do not know on roads that are not dry.  I am not a comfortable passenger  with many drivers. Too many years of being behind the wheel.

LLOYD  looks like I need to be a Facebook member to open the link.

JOAN  I do have Facebook but so long since I checked it I forgot the password. I really do not have time for it so seldom checked it anyway.

HAL  you don't look ugly, I did see you one time on Skype. Hope the shot in the back helps you. I had several and they did nothing for me.

Enjoyed the visit and meal with them.

    Donna Dot
A TRUE STORY FROM... "THE HOUSTON HERALD" HOUSTON , TEXAS Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston , Texas was ...arrested, jailed, and charged... with manslaughter for shooting a man 6 times in the back as he was running away with her purse. The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the Arraignment Judge, sworn-in, and asked to explain her actions. The woman replied, "I was standing at the corner bus stop for about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work. I am a waitress at a local cafe. I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol in my purse hanging on my left shoulder. All of a sudden I was spun around hard to my left. As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, "No Way Punk! You're not stealing my pay check and tips." I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and started squeezing the trigger of my pistol. When asked by the arraignment judge, "Why did you shoot the man 6 times? The woman replied under oath, "Because, when I pulled the trigger the 7th time, it only went click." The woman was acquitted of all charges. She was back at work the next day! That's Gun Control, Texas Style

PHYLLIS....
...so  far, lucky, no cane inside the home as my MS and body can change in the flicker of an eyelid, when at its worst I can grab hold of things as I slouch my body around from room to room, at most times I can get myself around....Falls I know, will now be a part of me.....I am aware of a connection when I tilt my neck forwards, a nerve connection that triggers a movement in the top of my right leg, so I need to be very aware of that happening...it was doing that the time I washed my hair over the bath that I had a blackout and went down....

Good morning, Joan, and all the other morning friends.  Thanks for breakfast this morning.

I didn't get in here over the week end.  I was out early on Sat. morning to go to an Amish Market up in Shrewsbury, Pa. My son took me and after shopping, we went to another nice gift shop/produce market/ and café and had lunch in the café.   Then, Sunday, I went out to lunch with some long-time friends.  So, I had a busy week end.  Some days, I don't do anything, and then several things come all at the same time. I was tired, but it was a good tired, and I did get some little gifts and some goodies at the Amish Market.

We had a lot of rain over night, but the sun is shining this morning.  They are calling for colder temperatures at the end of the week, and a little bit of  that "dreaded" word. LOL

Jackie, I am sorry that you had a fall, but, glad  you didn't hurt yourself too bad.  I have trouble walking and am always so afraid I will fall. I have to really watch where I am going.  I, too, tend to hit my toe sometimes, as I don't always remember to "pick up my feet".  I  try to be very cautious about that.

Nothing much going on today.  I need to get myself moving along.  Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy

Hi everyone on another overcast morning after a night of rain.  We will only get to 59 degrees today and late tonight and into the early morning hours we have 100% chance of more rain.  The rain is welcome as we are in a drought here in South Carolina.  Pat did go to church with me yesterday and then we ate lunch out.  The housekeeper had the flu last week and missed on Friday but Pat talked with her last evening and she will be here this morning.  I plan on attending my Monday noon meeting and I don't know what else we may do today.  We need to go to COSTCO for some major restocking but not sure it will be this afternoon.

Gloria, actually your emails are stored on the Gmail site and not on your computer or phone unless you save them to a folder and then, I believe it is only a link as you can mark a message to multiple folders if you want.  When I move a message, once read, to a folder or archive it if it already has a label assigned, it does not appear again in my inbox.  The deleted messages are only retained for a 30 day period.  I have found that as I have used Gmail over the years they keep increasing the amount of storage I have available for saving my emails on their server.  Currently I have used only 42% of my available storage of 19 GBs.  I hope this makes sense. Your description of the Yankee Swap is the way I have experienced the gift exchange although we usually limited it to 3 swaps and then a gift was retired.

Don, glad you were able to play Santa at the mall again.  That was a long shift.  Did you get a break at least?

JaneS, it sounds like you home is very festive, especially the outside.  Last year I bought a nice Christmas wreath for our front door and I put it out right after Thanksgiving this year.  That is the extent of our outside decorating. It worries me to see that you have been climbing on ladders.

deAngel, you are such a social butterfly with all of those parties to attend.  I hope you enjoy each one.  Mexican Train is a fun and easy game.  We used to play it a lot with two other couples where we moved from.  We haven't established any social ties here as Pat hasn't' been up to entertaining. Our socializing is usually during the day and with our church friends.  Your rehab experience sounds like prison--dreadful.

June, sure hope today finds you "liking yourself" again.  We still love you.  Hope you had a better night last night.

Jackie, I always shudder when any of our folks here report a fall.  Glad you were not hurt anymore than you were with the extra aches.

Phyllis, I find I prefer snow now on the television newscasts.  Snow is not something we have to worry about here in the South as it is a rare occurrence and doesn't stay on the ground very long.

Hal, wouldn't you like to have a spray can that generates a large fee with each spurt?  I have had many friends who have had that procedure.

We have a white world this morning but the sun is shining so I don't know how long the snow will last.  We are just under 40 degrees.

I haven't been up long enough to make a decision as to what I'll do today.  My Christmas decorations are downstairs and I hesitate to go down there while Tom is working down there; he does a lot of phone work.

Jackie, I'm sorry to hear you fell and I'm glad no broken bones or bruises.  Amy, it's good that you are nimble enough to keep from falling.  I marvel yet at the fact I did not break anything when I fell in September.  I walk very cautiously.

Mary Ann

Hal I only had one break; that was at 3 o'clock, four hours after I started. It was for one hour which gave me time to eat and relax and get ready for another three hours.

Now I have to get suited up again for a photo shoot and interview for our church newspaper. They are coming to me so at least I don't have to go out.

A new day, a fresh start in life. I have been downstairs and got an iodine treatment of my sore. I learned that if the scab were removed, my leg would never heal. With my PAD, the scab is essential. So I learned something new. I know you are all falling over in amazement at my acuity.  ::)

Speaking of falling, I am using my cart ALL of the time now. If it is just going from one chair to another, I must have that cart. Just this morning I carted myself into the kitchen. Opened my pantry sliding door, and started to fall over backwards.....no warning. Fortunately I could grab the open door. Cart was to the side of me, so of no help. Gosh, how we have to keep learning !!

We are having another cool day in Stanton. 66 degrees . Right now the sun is shining, but it is supposed to cloud up now and again. No rain in sight.

Today is a free day for me. There are programs to attend, but I am content to stay here with all of you. I will go down for lunch though.

Amy, I would love to be dancing in the snow with you. Don't ever lose that dear !

Larry, Every day is a new chance to Live And I intend to take advantage of what is given. Thanks for your message.

I have a bunch of Thank You cards to acknowledge via computer, so off I go to do so.

Larry, don't worry about my "ladders".  The highest I climbed was a 2 step kitchen stool.  My ceilings are low and that's all I need to change light bulbs, get things off shelves or change out my seasonal flags.  I don't stretch or reach when I'm up and there's always something solid to hold onto.

I went to lunch with my former PA House office friends today.  We always laugh a lot and we did that today.  It's good to stay in touch with friends.

Back to the candy making.  Enough goofing off!

Bis, I just took another trip downstairs to the Clinic as I noticed my leg wound was slowing oozing. The Nurse said "well at least now we know what is going on. " I asked if that was good news, and she said "Not necessarily", but we should continue with the daily iodine. I wasn't dizzy at all Bis, when I started to fall this morning, I just started to go over backwards, and luckily grabbed the door, and all was stable again. Readers are going to get tired of my complaints so I will try to "straighten up, and fly right !"

Jackie.  Now do you think that there are a lot more people now coming down with MS. Maybe when younger we just never thought or saw people with it. I have known many now in past 10 years.  I went to a meeting couple years ago as I have a close friend who has it and I wanted to learn a little more.  Was amazed how many were at that meeting and it is not a town with more that 115 thousand all together.  Ages there with it from age 12 up.  It is a much larger group now.
Still cold here but stop snowing. Will dress and go out for awhile. Need some exercise.  Will have to be indoors.

June, I had an incident earlier this year when I straightened up and I guess I straightened up too much because I suddenly found myself going backward at a rather rapid rate and I could not stop.  I backed up to the davenport where I could sit down.  A couple feet further and I would have been on the floor.  I could not stop so I am fortunate the davenport was where it was.

To all who seem to be falling, including myself....My late father would always tell me,... Jacqueline, " expect the unexpected..." ( he always called me Jacqueline...)....Ah ha, yes, now I understand....not that I shall be expecting to fall, but be prepared for one....

JEANNE P...
...cant really answer your question as I never came across many who had it when I was young apart from one female cousin who was in a wheelchair in her 20s....but I am sure meeting many with MS now....But I have to say, I am meeting a few who were diagnosed in their 50s and 60s like myself...so maybe it is not just a young thing anymore...

JUNEDRABEK...
...you are not complaining, you are just stating a fact....

Janie--Glad you are extra careful when using a ladder.  Nice that you could get away from candy making for a bit and lunch with your friends.

June--You aren't complaining.  We want to know what's happening with you.

JeanneP--I don't know that statistics about if more have MS these days or if they are doing a better job of diagnosis.  I know several who have it.   My 74 y/o friend in North Carolina was diagnosed when she was 20.  She's a nurse and had to quit working when she was 30.  She has to wear braces on her legs.  That doesn't slow her down much.  Just this past summer she painted their 2 story house by herself--climbing the ladder etc.  Her husband was no help--he has Alzheimers.

Mary Ann--You were very lucky the davenport was right behind you.

Vanilla-Jackie--That was a good saying your father had.

Mary Ann, what a lucky thing that your davenport was there to break your fall. It is a scary feeling when one starts to topple over, and with frequency at that.

Vanilla, thank you for your message, you are kind. And I am so happy that you have the advantage of the M.S. meeting to attend. It is a comfort to know that others are sharing the same problems we have.

Bis, it does seem to quiet down. Perhaps those that have snow don't go out as much so have less to share. I had a good lunch with pleasant friends, came home to read a bit…..Yup, fell sound asleep. Woke with a start and thought I had missed Choir Practice. After scolding myself for being so dumb, I realized it was Monday…not Tuesday. So an apology to myself is in order.

Janie, do you ever indulge is all those Christmas candies you make ? I would surely need to sample each one as they are made. They sound sooooo good!

That's a good question June.  Someone asked me once what something tasted like and I said, "I don't know.  I don't eat this stuff."  However, I do sample and I really indulge in the coconut cups, raisin clusters and chocolate marshmallows.  Thank goodness, Christmas season is rather short or I'd be rather wide!

With my old teeth, I think your chocolate marshmallows would suit me to a T..
There was a day when things like butter brickel, peanut brittle, etc. were my favorites. Now just a happy memory.

It is only seven fifteen, but my eye lids are getting heavy, so I had best wish you all a very peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June :smitten:

Food For Thought

Flea the Pea!
(By Greg Allen)

Charles Spurgeon told the story of a preacher who was strolling through a village. As he walked along, he saw a man going down the road with a herd of pigs following in line behind him like sheep following behind a shepherd. This was a very unusual sight, because pigs, ordinarily, are very self-centered, independent creatures that never follow anyone. So the preacher asked, "Sir, how do you get those pigs to follow you like that?"

"Oh, it's easy," the farmer said. "I have a sack full of peas in my pocket; and I just keep walking, occasionally dropping a pea on the road behind me. The pigs follow along wherever I drop a pea and gobble it up, never caring where I'm leading them."

"That's very clever!" said the pastor. "By the way; where are you leading them?" And the man said, "To the butcher's shop, of course."

The devil often follows the same strategy. The Bible warns us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8; NKJV). But he rarely carries a big sign that says, "Follow me, so I can devour you." He knows we wouldn't follow him if he was that obvious. Instead, he works subtly to draw us away from God's good will for our lives.

Just like the farmer in that story, the devil drops little, fleshly temptations in front of us through the elements of our culture: a suggestive movie or television show here; an off-color story or inappropriate joke there; a seductive advertisement or pop song here; a pornographic magazine or web page there. And if we aren't alert, we follow along behind, picking such things up and thinking, "I can handle this. This isn't so bad. It's just a little pea, after all. It tastes good. Who's it going to hurt? Who's going to care? Who's going to know?" We gobble these tempting little "peas" up, one after another; never realizing that they're forming a straight line that is leading us down a slippery slope to destruction and loss.

The answer that the Bible gives to such things is summed up in one word:

"Flee" (1 Corinthians 6:18).

As followers of Jesus Christ, let's remember the devil's strategy; and by His help, let’s “FLEE THE PEA!”

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm checking in this morning so you don't miss me but I've got chocolate melting.  When I went to bed last night, I checked the calendar to remind myself what time I have to work today and it's not until 10 a.m. so I revised my morning schedule.  I have chocolate melting and I think I can finish the pretzel dipping this morning.  My plan is to fee the doggies, let them out for their after breakfast stroll and then start dipping.  I figure I'll have until 9 to finish them and then time to relax while getting ready for work.  Sounds like a plan, right?  I'm off.  Make this a good day, Everyfriend!

Me, nothing special today.  Have to call for a doctors appointment, but nothing serious just get results of my blood test and a quick chat.

Weather is clearing and some of Amy's and Don's weather on the way here, should arrive tonight or tomorrow.  Colder and maybe even freezing weather.  They haven't made up their mind.

Joanie, the pretzels are done and yes the making is almost done and then I can put the mess away.  But not much of it is packed yet for delivery.  That's my plan for the rest of the week.  I still have to make a bag of peanut clusters for my son (his favorite) and a bag of raisin clusters to go to Texas (her favorite...mine too!)  Then I have to pack the boxes that need to be sent.  That's my plan for the rest of the week.  Barring anything unforseen, it's doable.  Next week I'll try to decorate the inside.  Kiran will help with that.  I think I'm not going to get a tree this year.  The wreath on the outside gives me enough pleasure that I don't need a tree.  And the tree top angel can watch over the Nativity scene.

Now I'm off to take a shower and get ready to greet my public at Wally World.

Hi everyone on a overcast and still lightly rainy morning.  We have had about 2 1/4 inches of rain in the last two days.  It looks like it is about over as the prospects are low for the rest of the day and evening.  I got up this morning and fried up a pound of sausage and mixed up a new batch of sausage muffins for Pat's breakfast over the next few days.  I will try not to drop one of them on the floor as I did last time.  There is nothing specific on the calendar for today although we may make a trip to COSTCO later today as long as it is not raining.  Yesterday I did not attend my noon meeting as planned as my heart was letting me know it was there and that I needed to rest.  I didn't want to cook last night so we went to Ruby Tuesdays and had a delicious dinner.

June, sure glad that you had that open door to grab onto and prevented another fall. Mary Ann, that davenport was in the right place at the right time.

JaneS, I love your sense of humor.  The comment about the Christmas season being rather short or you would be rather wide is a classic.

Amy, it sounds like your DIL has definitely catch the quilting fever.  Hope you found good driving weather today.

JaneS, I had visions of you on a step ladder.  I got rid of my step ladder in place of a two step stool with a long handle to grip when I moved two years ago.  Glad to read you use only the step stool.

It sounds like others weathers are about the same as ours - overcast and raw with a temp of 32 degrees.  It won't get to 40 the rest of the week.

I've got to address labels for cards.  I ordered stamps from the USPS and they're on the way and will be here in time to mail cards.  Time caught up with me this year and I missed a couple of early December birthdays - shame on me.

Good Morning Everyone from the
icy cold, rocky coast of Maine.

I have lots of walking errands
to do but it is going to be too
cold and windy to get out there
and accomplish any thing.

So I will stay in and watch
the series "Billions" on Show Time.
And let Kelly take to me do my
errands tommorrow.

I am playing catch up on all the
series that I have desired to see
but overlooked these last few years..

I blame that on my having too many
choices.   Now I just have to learn
to enjoy the ones that I choose
to have.

All is well here,  but it

my face" ..   (giggle)

Have a good day,  Everyone.

Larry. Those muffins do look good. Not tried making but think I will. Have the makings here.  Now if I can find your Recipe again on here. You remember what number it was.  Pat must really enjoy them.
So cold here now. Maybe a little more snow tomorrow. I had better go and fill my gas tank. Always afraid of the Battery going dead as I don't drive it as much. So should maybe go out on the interstate and put a few miles on to charge it up.
I don't have a garage. Battery pretty new but still needs to be run.

Mary Ann.  I have so many Grands and GGrands now along with the rest of family. I can't keep up with remembering birthdays either. I also forgot 2 this past week. I think now it is time to cut out the older ones. All live very far away.

Good Afternoon Everyone...

I decided to dress up warmly and head out to do the errands that I can walk to,  Bank,
Drug Store, and Reny's department store, so that Kelly and I won't have to bother with
that stuff tomorrow.

I was very comfortable and it was an easy 1/2 mile walk, so I got these errands done so Kelly and I don't have to both with that stuff tomorrow.

There will be days this Winter when I won't be able to easily walk around town,  but
today was not one of them.

All is well,  Have a good day..

The Women's Fellowship of my church had a Christmas Tea for all of the women of the church, plus any friends and/or relatives who wanted to attend.  I didn't count noses, but we had a good number of women there.  Our organist played a couple of classical pieces and several Christmas themed songs as our entertainment; he played the piano.  We had cupcakes, nuts, chocolate pieces, coffee and tea.

It is chilly out, but the sun has been shining.  I think we're at 40 degrees and will be there the rest of the week.  I was going to hunt for more Christmas cards and will do that yet today, otherwise, I'll let Tom pick some out for me.  I used to send close 100 cards, too, Joan, but no more.  I have about 25 cards and that may be enough, but I think I need a few more.  I ordered stamps from USPS and they have been shipped.  I should have my cards ready by the time the stamps arrive.

I do no Christmas baking any more, even for home and family.

Back from a goooood lunch. Cup of veg. soup, a thick turkey sandwich on sour dough bread, a side of mixed vegetables, carrot and celery sticks, a small glass of prune juice, a cup of coffee and a butterscotch brownie. I brought the brownie and half the sandwich home for supper tonight.

Right now I am mouthing a lemon drop candy, or two, trying to get my throat in shape for Choir Practice, which will occur in less than half an hour.

Bis, It seems it will take a long time for the leg to heal. Last time I had a wound on the calf of my leg it took months to heal. Due to the artery disease there is not enough blood flow to work from the inside out…as I understand it, hence the long healing period of time. This one had me up and walking the floor at 2 a.m. but when it calmed down I slept like a lamb till daylight.

Mary Ann, your Christmas Tea sounds very nice. Did Dot attend too ? I'm so happy that you and Dot maintain a truly close friendship. It is helpful to both of you.

Hal…You SOC sounds like my Gov. Pension. I had a raise in my pension that went to my Medical Ins. I'm not complaining…too old to go spend money anyway.

Gotta get down to Choir.

Good for you, Sandy, mine stayed the same.  Interesting while everything else goes up, SS does not.  I may have had an increase, but it would have been in the Medicare payment, so I stayed put.  I'm not kicking, at least I'm getting SS.

I liked the sound of your lunch, June, more than my tea refreshments because mine were all sweets except the nuts and I don't need a lot of sweets.  Tom just told me that Annie will be here for supper and we'll have lasagna - that will compensate.

Back from Choir and exercise class, and I am tired. I think that is enough outing for me today. There is another program tonight..a group called "The Celebration of Life" singers, but my body says, "STAY HOME !", so I will.

I don't feel I am adding much to the choir, so I may quit after this session is over.I still love to sing, but for some reason my ears block up and I get no feed back. Very irritating.

I ordered some new pillow cases and they are made of microfiber. So I must go look to Mr. Google to tell me what microfiber is.

Hello Everyfriend!  I came home from work today totally exhausted.  I took the doggies out, gave them a snack, ate a hotdog and a handful of walnuts and submitted to the call of the couch!  I slept for two hours and woke up with a nasty headache so I took a couple Ibuprophen and changed position to the recliner with a nice cozy throw over me and slept another hour.

We've had supper and putzed a bit and now I have the chocolate on to make enough peanut clusters for one bag for my sone and a few extras for the mixed bags.  Also chocolate for a bag of raisin clusters for my Texas box and some leftovers for me and the mixed bags.  Once the chocolate is melted, it should take about an hour.  Then I'm going to hit the hay!  Sounds like a lot of sleeping but, like June, when the body calls, I answer!

Larry, I think I have my father's sense of humor.  Or as my husband used to say "time humor...it takes some time to realize you (that's me) told a joke".   I always loved my dad's humor.  I hope my kids and grands remember that about me.

My step stool has a high handle to hold onto also.  I inherited it from my sister.  When she moved into her last apartment, she had an in house handyman who brought his own tools.  My step stool died so she brought this one over to my house to replace it.  I thank her every time I use it.

I think the chocolate should be melted by now.  Later friends or maybe tomorrow.

Mycheal, I get no S.S. checks...just pension. Should I feel deprived ? (I'm not complaining, honest !) After being a non-earning house wife for many a year, 62 years, in fact, I feel fortunate to have what I get.

I did stay home tonight, fixed my supper, played on the computer, visited with friends over lunch and during exercise class, and I am content. Now it is time to clean up the kitchen, think about the getting to bed essentials, and eyes will be closing in sleep early tonight.  So.....

I wish you all a very restful, peaceful, sweet sleep, and a happy, healthful tomorrow, and I truly do love and appreciate ALL OF YOU. Thanks be to God.

For what are you thankful today? You may have asked this question of others at times. Or maybe you’ll pose it to yourself in the quiet of your reflective prayer.
May I tell you what I’m thankful forâ€"today and every day? Among many other things, I’m grateful for you supporters of ReFrame Media and Back to God Ministries International. Your prayers and generosity make our outreach possible, whether at home or abroad.
Over the years I have met hundreds of our friends and ministry partners. You have inspired me with your kind comments and personal stories. Thank you!
The Bible mentions “a great cloud of witnesses”â€"heroes of faithâ€"who encourage us with their examples. We are also cheered by many “living saints” in our local churches, extended families, and circles of friends.
The race of faith is different from any other race we might run. Instead of competing with others, we are fighting against our own sinful nature. The only hope we have in order to finish is to fix our eyes on “Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Father, we praise you for the examples of faith ¬heroes who have run this race before us. Give us strength and perseverance, and help us to focus on Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Joan,  I couldn't go back to sleep, so am playing on the computer at 4:11 a.m.

I do think it is only Wednesday, tho.  LOL

Yesterday, Tues,  turned out to be a stressful day.   Leaking toilet,  long  on-holds on the telephone,  couldn't order several gift cards as they wouldn't take the order over the phone,  Christmas tree lights were burned out when I tried to finish our little tree in the sitting area,  an expected gift card still didn't come,  my new Kindle keeps freezing up and after doing some trouble-shooting, still isn't working, and it just went on and on.

I sure hope today will be better.

Thanks for the buffet breakfast. Lots to choose from.

I think I will try to go back to bed for a little while.

Hope every friend will have a great day.

(And, it is Wednesday)

Joy

Woke up to a light dusting of snow...not one that required attention too .

Yesterdays appointments went well we got in early on both of them. Still made for a long day though.

Not a lot on the agenda today other than paying my garage bill and cleaning .

Joy, hope the rest of today is much better for you.

Joan,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  I am happy to hear yesterday went well.  Good that the snow you woke up to doesn't require dancing with the shovel or snow blower.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Am sure you and the cattle are happy when there is no snow.

good morning Everyfriend. My keyboard seems to be taking a nap this morning so I'm using my iPad to check in until I can call to find out what I should do. I hope you all have a better start to your day than I did. We also had a dusting of snow last night. Make this day a good one!  I'll join you when I'm able.

P.s. chocolate making is done!  Now for the packing.

Thank goodness the sun is shining this morning.  Yesterday was so dreary it was hard to keep a good attitude.

I haven't gotten my new Soc. Sec. statement for 2017 yet but I had already read that most, or all of the increase will go in to an increased Medicare premium.  Oh, well, easy come, easy go.  And I am always grateful for both SS and Medicare.

I think I will just plan to "get out" today.  Haven't been out of the house since last Thursday and since the weather has finally cleared I really feel the need to escape.  Library, Costco (if the parking lot isn't too full), lunch somewhere, and whatever else I can think of.

Talk to you later, alligators.

Called the guru and he helped me fix it over the phone but he did say that my keyboard is older than most and that I might need a new one one of these days.  I think maybe Kiran will have her snacks elsewhere for a bit.

I'll be off to Wally World soon.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth about SS....Last year, I got a notice that because I'm still working, they had increased the amount I was getting from SS and because my own had increased, they were decreasing my survivor benefits from my husband.  I came out 52 cents less.  Does it really pay to continue working?  I wonder what they are doing this year.  I haven't got my notice yet.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

Hi everyone on this Wednesday morning.  So far it is overcast but to get to about 60 this afternoon. While the rain stopped yesterday it was a very dark and damp day outside.  I worked here at home all morning, rested and then went to COSTCO and stocked up on several things. No riding carts were available so I walked the store very slowly.  Fortunately I have now been there often enough to have a general idea where things are located on the shelves and in the freezers and coolers.  There is no dinner at church tonight so we will prepare dinner hear to share with Scott when he comes out late this afternoon.

Joan, I haven't been driving my PT Cruiser very often since Pat hasn't been driving and I noticed it was slow to turn over when I last drove it a couple of days ago.  We really have no need for the second car but perhaps Pat will again be up to driving and I will use it more often.  I don't want the battery to go down either.

June, that was a full day.  I hope you got through the night without that terrible leg pain.  I bet you will like the microfiber as it is very soft and smooth.  Like you I get no Social Security and only part A of Medicare as Federal Government employees had their own retirement system.  Pat does get Social Security and also has only Part A of Medicare as our health insurance is equal to what part B and part D would pay.  The premium is going to $21 a month on the health insurance.

Joy, sure hope you have a better day today.  I would call Amazon and tell them of your problem with the new Kindle.  My experience with them has been very positive.

JaneS, I really like your sense of humor.  We all need to laugh as much as possible each day. Glad you were able to get your keyboard fixed.  Fortunately keyboards are very inexpensive.

Good morning everyone,  was too tired when I got home yesterday I just laid down on the couch and just about stayed there till I went to bed. Did I tell you I like the new doctor I have? Some things showed up on the MRI that were seen and she wants to follow up on them so back for more X Rays and still have to make an appointment for the ultrasound. I like when I can get the town car for seniors and their doctor visits.  She was able to take me to the CVS store just around the corner and I transferred all my meds there. The also deliver so that is set up,too. Now that is one less thing my son has to do for me. They are testing the fire alarms here this morning and when the first one went off I jumped a foot I think. I knew it was coming too.

PHYLLIS  gloomy here today, too. In the mid 30's so at least not freezing.

LARRY  those sausage muffins look good.

JEANNE P  when I had my car ands was not going anywhere on a frigid day I would go out and start the car, lock the doors and go inside for half an hour or so and let the car run.

HAL  I got my SS  future HUGE monthly raise. Why bother giving us a few more pennies. With all the prices going up it will do us no good.

JUNE  what you had for lunch yesterday would be more than 2 meals for me. Wish I could be more active, might get an appetite back.

MARY ANN  any lasagna left? If so I will be there for some. I did have some from Schwan's but it was not like homemade.

JANE  sleep is the best thing when you get worn out. Yesterday I did not sleep but just staying on the couch helped. When I got home I could hardly walk even with my rollator. My oldest son has a great sense of humor. Very straight face and he has caught me several times before I realized he was joking.

SANDY  my raise is not enough to buy anything.

JOAN  hope I can do justice to your breakfast buffet. Chuckles, that was an insult after all those hours. Thank you for today's goodies.

JOY  I think we all have days when nothing goes right. Hope today is better for you.

AMY  any day I have to go out is tiring for me these days.

LLOYD  good morning.

JANE  do you have an extra keyboard? I had one that died on me and ever since I make sure I have an extra one.

Good morning from the Interior.

Joy, I received a second Kindle as a birthday gift and realized that Amazon had on their own synced everything between the Fire 7 and Fire 8, calling the new one my 2nd. Kindle. I also found in settings, a place where you can use a service video that they do if you need help in fixing Kindle issues. I used it on my earlier Kindle to have them do a reset. This might help with your new Kindle.

Larry, I plan on calling Amazon to see if they can walk me through the directions to try to get the Kindle back to where it was.  It was working fine and I was slowly learning some of the newer things, and then, Sunday evening when I turned it on,  the screen was frozen with some kind of an ad on it.  I went to the Amazon Kindle page and did everything it told me to do, but it still is not cooperating.  I want to wait until I know I have some extra time to call them.

As far as the SS "raise", I don't feel so bad, after learning that a lot of you are still getting the same as last year.  I  thought it had to be that the Medicare payment went up and took the .03 %.   My total amount remains the same as it has been the last couple years. But, I am grateful for whatever I get.  I do get a pension from my husband's company, and I can manage pretty well.  I feel very blessed that I have a decent income.

Jane,  keyboards are not that expensive.  Would you consider asking "Santa" for one.  I had to get a new one a couple years ago and I don't think I paid much for it.  I am thinking about getting a new one, as some of the letters have rubbed off.  However, I pretty much know where the letters are without looking.  I learned to type when I was in Jr. High School and have always really liked to type.

Hoping my day will be better than yesterday. So far, it has been uneventful.

Joy

Patricia,  you sneaked in while I was writing.

Thanks for your suggestions.  But, I can't even get into Settings.  I just keep getting a page with some kind of an ad, and that "voice" keeps repeating my name over and over and nothing else happens.  I have to be in the right kind of a mood to get around to calling them.  But thanks for responding.

I received my new SS figures and when the pluses and minuses are added and subtracted, I will get the same as I got in 2016 and 2015.  I imagine the gross amount went up, but the Medicare also went up so the net is no change.

Gloria, I think the lasagna is all gone.  Annie came for supper last night; she and I each had ¼ of the batch and Tom took the other half.  Ours was from Stauffer’s.  After the first of the year, I may consider buying from Schwan but I haven’t thought much about any of those places yet.

Joy, I hope your day today is better than yesterday.

I will go to my company retiree Christmas party today.  It is a good meeting to attend because someone from GO will be there to tell about benefits for 2017.  They don’t do too many severe changes for retirees but newcomers often have different rules and current employees sometimes have to pay into their benefits.  I’ve been gone 30 years so I don’t see any major changes for me.  The weather is good so we should have a good turnout.  Tom will take me there and then will go to Mc D’s or similar to eat and do work; he goes where there is WiFi.

Take a look at Grand Haven; lots of whitecaps out past the outer lighthouse.

Janie--Maybe you could ask Santa for a new keyboard.

Good morning, Larry.  I pray one of these days Pat will feel up to driving again.  Your health insurance is ONLY $21 a month?  How lucky you are.  Mine is $640 quarterly and my prescription insurance is separate.

Gloria--Good morning.  I'm so glad your new doctor is so thorough.  Prescription delivery is a terrific service.

Good morning, angelface.

Joy--I hope you get your new Kindle working properly.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  Enjoy your company's retiree Christmas Party.

Good Morning Everyone!

Cold here this morning, but dry.  "They" say possible showers tomorow and much colder temps when the Canadian air comes through.

Nothing much on tap here today.  Have to stop taking a med today in preparation for my shot Friday.  Also cant eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to the shot, so Friday morning is going to be kinda miserable.

Yeah it is sure strange on how the feds figure cost of living now days. I know our grocery store and other shopping centers must not figure into their scale.  I suspect we will see a change along with the administration on interest rates and COLA.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I'm home and to use a phrase from Tennesee Ernie Ford, we were "busier'n a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!"  I figured it it many years ago....we have the regular people who are shopping for food and family things.  Then we have Christmas shoppers and this week they reloaded the food stamp cards.  It never stopped with 4 or 5 customers in my line all the time.  I think I have this worked out though.  I come home, let the doggies out, change my clothes and wash my hands, let the doggies in.  Give the doggies a snack.  Have my lunch while I check out my emails and S&N and then I yeild to the "call of the couch".  After supper I get my second wind.  Does that sound like a plan?

I sharing everyfriend's day and it's almost like being with you all.  I sure wish we could have a once a month lunch or breakfast together.  Wouldn't that be "loverly"?

I'm off to finish checking the emails and then TO THE COUCH!

Good Afternoon,

Cold and gloomy in central Oklahoma.  Good day to stay inside so I am!

I'm working on the Christmas cards I mail to far-away friends.  I like to include a longer personal note than is possible on an e-card.  Plus - I'm surprised at the number of these people who tell me they "never check their e-mail".  Don't understand that kind of thinking.  ???

6 dozen Martha Washington candy balls are chilling in the fridge until I find that round tuit and dip them in chocolate.  Probably have enough center mixture to do at least that many more.

Some time between now and Saturday,   I will make a double recipe of cookies (or 2 different kinds) for the Neighborhood Christmas Home Tour on Saturday evening.
The neighbors on either side of me are on the tour and both have brightly lighted outside displays.  My theory is that, as the "black hole" in the middle",  I'm helping emphasize each of them.

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Good Afternoon All, I went down for Bible study at 10 a.m., but that's it for me for the day. Had a bad night, pain and wakefulness.

Went down for my leg check this morning. Nurse feels the antibiotic is not doing the job, so she was going to contact the Dr. She notified me later that Dr. wants a blood draw tomorrow. They come to my room at 5 a.m. while I am still asleep, and do the deed, and off they go to the next customer. I love this method of doctoring.

Hal,my Gov. Health Ins. is United Health Care, and my premiums are $82.05 Biweekly. I am happy to have them. Last hospital stay was over 23,000 for a four day stay.

Gloria, I too am due for another Ultra Sound on my leg, or legs….whatever Dr. ordered, but they were all filled up till the end of Dec. I know exactly how you felt after your day "out", as I have gone through the same.  Old age is NOT for Sissy's, for sure. We Srs. are pretty tough old birds, but there is a limit. My lunch yesterday, was two meals for me…I brought half of it home and had it for supper.

Janie, I have read all the posts, and now my bed is calling me. when my leg is acting up the recliner just doesn't work..I need to lay straight out, so the bed does the trick.

I'm home from our retiree Christmas party and it lasted longer than expected.  The man from Human Resources in GO talked for nearly an hour with hardly taking a breath.  Most of what he covered was for newer retirees because their benefits are figured differently than those in my category (30 years).  I thought he'd never stop!  Prizes were given out and even with a lot of them, I didn't win anything.

Annie was going to come to do more cleaning for us but as her dad is not going to be here, I asked that she come another evening.  I have Christmas cards to take care of and I have to see that my list gets to Tom so he can print my labels.  My printer isn't compatible with my new printer.  If it isn't one thing, it's two others.

Jackie, my dogs only get a REAL walk about once a week.  My yard is fenced and they go out by themselves whenever they want to.

As you can see, I'm back.  I did have a nice nap and I'm ready to face some smallchallenges.  The doggies are out right now and when they come in, we'll have supper and then I'll get to work.  I do find that the more clothes I have to wear (sweat shirts etc. the less I feel like doing anything.  That must be why I get more done in the summer.

A lot of folks use canned chicken or purchase  chicken parts such as only thighs or breasts or even purchase a meal with chicken parts or a TV dinner. It is something to think about when we just grab and go at times.

You might want to check your food labels before relying on one of your tried-and-true chicken recipes for dinner tonight. National Steak and Poultry just issued a recall on nearly 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken that have the potential to be undercooked. The recall originally included 17,439 pounds of chicken per its initial release on Nov. 23, 2016, but the most recent update expanded that total to include an additional 1.9 million pounds of product.

This recall includes a variety of ready-made meat products, from boneless, skinless chicken strips and breasts to diced and cubed chicken goods from popular brands like Hormel. Any of these items that were produced between Aug. 20 and Nov. 30, 2016, should be immediately thrown away. It has officially been labeled as a Class-1 recall, meaning that it is "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

Check out the full list of affected products on the USDA website, and be sure to chuck your ready-made chicken in the garbage if there's a chance it is part of the recall.

JeanneP, Medicare Part B premiums will go up only $3.50 a month next year for most seniors, and will actually go down for high-income people and those who were new to Medicare in 2010 or 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said Thursday.
Thus with your increase in benefits as well increase in Medicare it's rather going to balance out.

I could use one of those raises around my bend, too.  But I'm resigned to the fact that if they give me a raise, it will be based on what I've been paying in.  And then they'll reduce my survivor benefits again.

My turn to have my leg bothering me tonight. Got up and walked around in here trying to be quiet so I don't wake the woman under me. Been a busy 2 days. Tuesday the doctor visit, have to make 2 more appointments, one for more X Rays and the ultrasound on a kidney. Then later in the day I had an order of groceries  that I had to put away.  Today was CNA and the nurse from that company was here.  Had a different CNA, the regular one was out sick. She emailed me later and said she had the flu and that she would be here
Friday. If she has the flu it will take her longer than 2 days to get over it.

Then the man from Schwan's was here. I forgot he was due and I never made out an order so got some things he had on the truck. I did get some of those cherries, I think it was Joy who said they were so good. Never did get a chance to rest in the afternoon for 2 days and it sure feels like I have been on the go for a week. Too many things different 2 days in a row and I am not used to that anymore.. This old lady feels worn out and now my leg is keeping me awake.

JOY  you sound like me. I have to be ready to make phone calls and I have to do that later today.

MARY ANN  how was that Stouffer's lasagna? I never tried that one. Most of the lasagna I ever had is what I made with the sauce I made. One thing about Schwan's is if you have food stamps they accept them. From what I understand that is unusual.

JOAN  I knew that CVS here in town delivered meds as I know some here get them. Mine were delivered about 9:30 this  (yesterday?)morning.

HAL  I can take the cold much better than the damp air we have been having this week. Today the sun showed up for a whole 5 minutes. I had to fast last week before visiting the vampire. Now remember we did not need a SS increase for 2016 because the price of oil was down. Never mind with the drought in so many places that the price of produce and meat went up.  Somehow those who figure those things out must have fat wallets, not like most of us with our thin ones.

JANE  I would not want your job at this time of year and being the first of the month those with food stamps shopping, too, it must be very busy in stores. We can dream of all of us getting together once a month and it would be very “loverly”

CALLIE  the last few weeks it seems like I am getting more email than ever or I am getting slo reading them. What is in that Martha Washington filling? I used to make the peanut butter and then the coconut balls for 3 families for Christmas. Then when the grands either got married or went out on their own I snt them some too, along with a lot of different cookies. I would come home from work and have a fast supper and start either candy or cookies. I miss doing that.

JUNE  yesterday when I got weighed I had lost another 2 pounds. I think I should ask her on my next visit about something to give me an appetite. I remember when Lillias in the Nest was taking something and it worked for her and the time Mare was in the hospital she lost her appetite and asked her doctor for it and she got her appetite back. I asked the doctor I had about that and he said he did not want to prescribe it for me. This new one had already done more in a month and 2 visits than 2 others did in 20 years. My left leg started throbbing when I went to bed and I finally got up.

AMY  oh yummy cherry cheesecake, love cherries and love cheesecake, any kind. Earlier I watched Donovan's Reef with John 'Wayne, an old one and I enjoyed seeing it again.

PATRICIA  one thing I have never bought is ready cooked chicken. I only like it fresh cooked and I cook just enough for 1 meal.

JACKIE  now it is 1:38 am on Thursday morning. Right you are, had trouble getting to sleep so what better thing to do than come to the SS and catch up. A cup of coffee sounds good to me. I never acquired a taste for tea and about the only time I will have some is if I am not feeling good.

CHUCKLES

A Lot Of Good That Did!

I spent more than two hours in the beauty shop getting my hair permed, cut and styled.

Relieved to be done, I went up to the receptionist to pay. "Good afternoon!"
she said cheerfully. "And who's your appointment with today?"

Food For Thought

Encouragement to Keep Going Each Day

By Sergei Sosedkin,
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-3

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us . . . run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus. . .
Hebrews 12:1-2
Our month of reflections on thanksgiving and gratitude is coming to a close.

Gloria, to me the Stouffer’s lasagna is good.  I’m not a great lasagna fan, but I can eat it.  I think it is available with meat or meatless although I have not bought any myself in some time (Tom does our grocery shopping).

We are in for the start of a winter storm this afternoon, but I understand areas south of us will be hit harder.  We should get around three inches.  What we got last weeks is just about gone, so I guess it is time for more snow!

Occasionally, Tom will buy a chicken freshly rotisseried and we have it for supper that night but I am not sure that would be included in what Patricia warned about.  We’re still here, anyway.

Gloria, my leg bothers me at times, too.  I bear with it until I want to get up.  I got up this morning about 5 am, but it wasn't my leg that got me up; I was wide awake.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  I'm glad I don't have to contend with snow anymore.  Once in a while I buy those rotisserie chicken's, too.  I have a couple suppers from one and use the rest for lunches--chicken sandwiches.

Good morning everyone!

It was always busy when the food stamps, government, and military checks, plus Native Allotments all came out at the same time and I'm sure it still is. I once looked into food stamps when I moved here, but I don't qualify. I'm in that in-between area where you just have to grit your teeth and persevere.

However, judging from the paperwork I've helped others on, it isn't that helpful to seniors at $19.00 a month. Meals on Wheels, you have to be incapacitated and food boxes and Federal commodities are very light the past two years but the paperwork keeps coming, more and more stipulated. I feel so helpless when filling out paperwork for people and they either don't have the forms needed or don't understand why the form needs that paperwork. I also see why this committee has trouble keeping positions filled.

Hi everyone.  We have the promise of some sunshine today, which will be very much  welcomed.  Our predicted high is 57 for this afternoon.  Today will be my normal pretty busy Thursday with coffee and the Wisdom group and then a quick trip to Aldi's on my way home as need some fresh vegetables and a few other items.  I hope that will be it for the day.  We plan on a nice salad with some of the rotisserie chicken on it for our evening meal.

Yesterday I finished up the cookbook project for Pat preparing an index by recipe of the special 174 page cookbook we printed and then adding another 70+ pages of additional recipes she had found over a several year period and making a separate index of these by page number and then alphabetical by recipe name.  Yesterday afternoon I did get her kitchen chair assembled and I think it will serve the purpose well.  The island we have in the kitchen has the top extending out from the base on one side where she can pull the chair under and get close to the working surface.  We will just have to see how it works out.  Scott came over for dinner last evening and then set up Pat's Christmas village and a few other decorations.  We plan on leaving the village up year round as we had done in our other house so we can enjoy it all year long.  It is atop the entertainment center so is not in the way at all.

Gloria, at least your ultrasound and xrays will be non-invasive procedures so it will just be making the trip and the probable waiting to be called that will be the tiring elements.  Glad you are so pleased with your new doctor.  I guess we are suppose to believe that there is no inflation.  I have come to the point of really not believing anything we are told by our government and I realize that is very sad. Glad you can get your medicines delivered and not have to depend your son to get them for you.

Joy, since you have a previous Kindle model I strongly suspect you know what I am going to say.  When we turn off the screen on these tablets it really doesn't shut them down.  It is necessary to hold the start button in until on the screen appears the prompt to totally shut it down.  On some devices you have to hold down the start button and another button but I have forgotten on the Kindle as we no longer use it.

Joan, don't I wish my health insurance premium as only $21 but that is the amount of the increase. In 2017 my premium will be $521.67 for Self Plus One.  The only Medicare we have is the part A for which as we know there is no additional premium paid after a person reaches 65.

JaneS, I am sure it is a relief to clerks and cashiers everywhere when Christmas is over and the January returns have been taken care of.  I know at least at Walmart you do not have to deal with the returns. It sounds like you have a good plan worked out for your days.

June, so sorry to read that you are not getting relief from the leg pain and it is disturbing your rest.

Jackie, it looks like several of us had short nights or trouble sleeping.  I awoke around 4:30 this morning, getting only 5 hours of sleep and couldn't go back to sleep.

Good Morning from another early riser. I woke about 4:30, quick trip to the bathroom before the tech. arrived to draw blood. She was a gem...hit the vein the first time.

We are all suffering leg pain today. Mine is right alongside the wound, and that vein is raised a bit more so I will be glad to have the Doppler test and learn a bit more about what is happening under my skin.

I have had my first pill of the day...this one is for an under active thyroid. Must be taken first in early morning. I am more than ready for some coffee and toast now. Then prepare for the day. May God grant us all that is necessary for us to do our part to make this a Good day. I love you all.....

Good morning, Lloyd.  I get up about the same time everyday.  I sure am glad we don't get any snow.

angelface--Good morning.  I am glad I don't have to figure out all those rules and regs.

Good morning, Larry.  Sorry I misunderstood about your medical insurance premium.  You don't have the Part B or is that covered by some other insurance you have.  I sure hope that stool works out for Pat.

June--Good morning.  I pray the tests tell the medical people what can be done so your wound will heal and you will be free of that pain.

Good morning everyone, well I did finally get to sleep and might still be sleeping but the phone woke me. Another gloomy day here. This will be a day I will be on the phone making appointments.

JOAN  I will enjoy  an egg McMuffin.  Food for Thought is one to keep.  Thank you for today's goodies.

MARY ANN  I used to like the Stouffer's French bread pizza but have not bought any in a long time. Last night was the first time  my leg bothered me like that.

AMY  sure glad I no longer have to clear snow away.

LLOYD  if you go back you will see I posted before Joan this morning.

PATRICIA  here we have a resident helper. He did get those commodity boxed delivered here for those who qualified for them. I have seen what is in those boxes and glad I did not need them. Mostly canned vegetables and I do not eat canned foods. I like fresh or frozen veggies.

LARRY  the counters here are high and no place for the legs as they do not over hang. I did get a stool for the kitchen but I cannot use it. No place for my legs and sitting on the rollator would not help because the counters would be just below chin level and this is a handicap apartment. My older son has been trying to get me to transfer my meds here  and I kept  the pharmacist I had. Now I am glad I have finally changed.

JUNE  my first pill in the morning is for GERD.  Since I have started taking that I have not been bothered with acid reflux and I am happy with that.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well a cold started yesterday with scratchie throat and runny nose and general "I am getting a cold" feelings.  And of course it kept me awake most of the night, so I didn't go to bible study this morning.  I didn't want to pass it along to my group.

I have to call the doctors office and see if they want to proceed with the shot to the back tomorrow.  I don't have a temp, so I am not sure. I just soon have it and get it over with.  I have already stopped my blood thinner.

I am sorry to hear of all the leg pain you all are suffering.  At our age we need all the rest we can get at night and old mother nature does her thing at night and many of us have to tend to her bidding which messes things up and then have something else bothering us really upsets to apple cart.

Our weather is doing the Texas thing.  Getting colder and Tisie, Callie and Lloyd left the gates open and we are getting the cold air coming in at 35 miles an hour.  And suppose to freeze here tonight.

Yesterday was a bad day here in San Antonio.  Two teenagers, a boy and girl, were killed in separate accidents, the girl hit a cement truck and the boy was walking down the railroad tracks with his headset one and didn't hear a train and got hit.  Bad, loosing children and to make it worst, during the holiday season.

I have to go make a phone call, everyone have a great day.

Gloria, I'm glad you mentioned the Stoffer's French Bread pizzas because I had been trying to remember the brand I had bought.  Tom has been buying a Papa Murphy vegetarian pizza ready to bake and they are good.  Tom is not a vegetarian, but he likes that kind and I go along with him.  I saw where we could get a couple of sides for $8 (for two, I think) and we could make a regular meal of the pizza and sides.

Hal, you have to be a subscriber to your newspaper to read the story about the teenagers.  It was a terrible tragedy to have two go the same day.

My leg was quiet last night so I slept well.  I usually have no trouble sleeping even with the pain.  It is a dull pain but constant.

Take a look at Grand Haven with lots of whitecaps.

I thanked Larry in another folder for his bold black posts and I want to thank others who make their posts bold.  It is so much easier for me, and I am sure others, to read.  That's the problem with having old eyes.

Good morning, Janie.  You're coming right along with the candy making and mailing.  Maybe you can skip the hairdresser and braid your hair.:)

Gloria--Good morning.  Your mention of Stouffer's French Bread Pizza reminded me of a boyfriend Linda had in high school.  He was a twin.  His mother didn't know how to cook ANYTHING!!  When she went grocery shopping, she bought enough of the pizzas for the boys to have for supper the entire week.  I, too, take a pill for GERD and one for my thyroid the first thing each day.

Good morning, halkel.  Sorry you are getting a cold.  I hope you can still get the shot and get it over with.  Your link won't let me in .

Mary Ann--Good morning.  I never heard of Papa Murphy products.  Maybe it's a regional thing?

Good morning, Joan and all the friends.  Thanks for the Egg McMuffins this ,morning  One of my favorite breakfasts.

Larry and Joan,  I have been on the phone for over 45 min. talking to a "Kindle Specialist" in the Phillipines.   The first gal I talked to was in Jamaica.   She asked me what the weather was where I am.  I told her we were having a few snow flurries and she just laughed. She said it was nice and warm where she was.

Anyway, after over 45 min. my Kindle finally got straightened out.   She had me doing all kinds of things.  Pushing the on and off button, tapping here and there.  She finally said to stay with her, it would eventually get straightened out, and IT DID !   After several tries at doing something,   a MAYDAY message came up and we got past that and then she (the gal in the Phillipines) was able to read everything that was on my screen.  That is just mind boggling to me.   It eventually got back to the HOME page and she assured me that it all should be ok.  Very nice gal, very patient and pleasant and even tho I had a little bit of trouble understanding her , I stayed with her and we worked through it.  She also gave me some other tips on how to get to the HELP page and that is a very interesting page.  Tells you just about how to do everything.  So,  today has started out good so far and I am "back in business" and learned some new things, also.

Mary Ann, or whoever had mentioned the Stouffer's Lasagna, I have used that a lot.  I prefer the vegetarian one, myself.  I find they are very good.  There are times when I do make my own, but I use the No-Cook noodles and the recipe on the package and it goes together pretty quick. I do use more of the mozzarella cheese than what it calls for, and I use a small can of tomato sauce, along with a jar of pasta sauce. But, in a pinch,  the Stouffer's is very good.  I have never tried the Stouffer's  French Bread pizzas.  Will have to look for them.  I usually will order from Domino's . I like them best from all the other Pizza carry-outs.  If I order a large one, I can get a couple meals from one.

We did have some snow  flurries this morning, but the sun is trying to come out now.

And, I did receive my letter from SS, and with the additional increase in the Medicare,  my monthly payment will remain the same as it has been for the past couple years.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy

I am back, all showered and dressed and down for leg check and pick-up of new anti-biotic. Now it is a matter of waiting for Gary at 9:30.

Hal, I'm sorry you are catching a cold. We don't need any more miseries than we already have, but as my son says, "there is a reason for everything." It is heartbreaking to hear of the two teens being killed. I can't imagine where the boy's brain was when he was walking a R.R. track with his ears plugged into what ever. And the kids now have to have the sound just blasting. Very sad for those two families.

Bis, I have too little thyroid whatever. Had a parathyroid removed years back, and I guess the many blood tests told them I needed a pill again. At 92, this body has done me very well through the years. It hurts me when I read of others your age that have graver problems, that you so valiantly live with. God does hear our prayers, and that is the greatest Blessing of all. How are things going with Joe ?

June--I pray the new antibiotic does the job.  I had a super hyper active thyroid in my twenties and they killed it with a radioactive iodine treatment.  Then several years later my thyroid function was super low so I take medication to keep it regulated.  Joe is doing good as long as he takes his medications.  Thanks for asking.

Good Morning from a cold crisp sunny central Oklahoma,

Hal,  sorry about that Blue Norther.   You may know the old saying from the plains/prairies:  "There's nothing between here and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence - and it runs north and south."

Gloria,  There are several recipes for Martha Washington candy - usually chopped pecans, maraschino cherries and coconut mixed with Eagle Brand milk and powdered sugar - rolled into small balls and then dipped in chocolate.
Mine from my mother-in-law is different in that it calls for chopped dates and candied cherries with the pecans - no coconut.  My family likes it best.
(BTW,  In this area, it's "pe-KAHN"  not "pea-can".   ;D )

June,  I surely do hope that the antibiotic helps your leg situation.  That's worrisome.

Joy, how nice to have a really helpful tech with your computer issue.  We once had a Filipino exchange student for a year.  He spoke fluent English but didn't understand some of the colloquisms - particularly our southern ones.

Off to make and dip some more MW candy.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good afternoon, cool, windy, cloudy day.

I had almost 5 days of reading, been so busy with 3 days of PT, I even forgot to go to the hemotolagist Monday. Wed. had PT, then went to Christmas luncheon at club house. To day I just plain tired. He told me yesterday, he thought I needed a hip replacement to help the pain in my leg. Forget that. I will live with the pain. To morrow he will tell me if I should keep up with the PT. I think I have had enough, see not much difference.

Joy I still have my old Kindle, thought about getting a new one. but I generally only use it when I am on the sunporch and watch TV on it. I tried reading books on it, but I like to hold a real book in my hands.

Hal, sorry you are getting a cold.

Joan, thanks for good breakfast, and readings.

To morrow, I have Pt, and Homemakers.  We are going to have a class in making potatoes pancakes.  Should be fun.

June, do not give up, it took almost all summer for the wound on my leg to get better. Seeing the doctor and antibiotics by month and on the sore. Finally boiled it out with proxide. (my mothers saying) Now adays they do not believe it useing it. I am told.

Gloria hope you find out whats going on, after all your appointments.

48 pieces of candy dipped. Look for some in the hidey-hole fridge. I could do more but am out of space in my FrIdge until they're hard enough to Stack in a container. When we lived in Leadville I could put them in the garage.  Might work here today-but not tomorrow.

Sandy, I'm ready for Spring at 12:01am. On December 26th! :)  Hope the pansies in my backyard pots make it through to brighten the winter days.

I am home, I am tired, and at home I will stay. Two and a half hours of being "out" has done me in. My beloved son Gary took care of all the paper work for a new patient, he just had me sign my name. What a blessing he is !!!!!! I can not be more thankful for what God has given me in my children.

Callie dear, I have ceased worrying about any of my medical problems. They are there, I do what I can to help them, by following the advice of those in charge.  Prayer helps ease the pains, thanks be to God.

Sandy, is that the latest picture of your new Grandaughter ??? She is changing so quickly now. I am so happy you keep us posted wtth here pictures, so we can enjoy, with you, the miracle of childhood.

Jane and Callie, I used to say Pe'-kahn, as years passed it switched to Pe-'Kahn, and I love those nuts !! but they are forbidden now…all nuts, seeds, heavy grains and used to be raisins were a NO NO, along with other dried fruits, but Hall told me raisins lost their seeds in drying, so I now do partake of those in baked goods.

Gloria De, I am a peroxide user for sure. I keep a bottle in my medicine cabinet. I use it on cuts, and as a mouthwash occasionally. I'm not giving up Gloria dear..never, never. never. Each day, to me, is a gift that I will treasure, and thank God for. We here are ALL so fortunate.

Time to scrounge up some lunch and then off for a book and nap.

Joy, the Stouffer French Bread pizzas come in two pieces and they're about 8-10 inches long.  I usually get the Supreme because I don't care for pepperoni that most store-bought pizzas have.

There was a bad accident on I-96 near Fowlerville MI because of snow.  I saw pictures of the accident on the Weather Channel so it made national news.  When Terry and Jan lived near Detroit, I used to drive that way.

Joan, I think Papa Murphy is more than a local brand, but I don't know because I've never had to buy a pizza away from home.  If I were in Indiana, someone else would buy one.

We may get up to three inches of the white stuff - lake effect snow, caused by Lake Michigan water being warmer than the air.  The lake effect snow may go as far east as Lansing.

I'm doing a bit of on line Christmas shopping today.  And trying to decide what they will like best.  I think I'm going to finish up this weekend and then I'll take all the packages to UPS on Monday.  After that's done, I'll drag out some of the decorations and hopefully, Kiran will help me when she's here after school on Monday.

Now I'm going to go watch a Christmas movie through my eyelids.  I didn't get a nap today and I'm draggin'.

I hope everyone who is well stays that way and everyone who is ailing stops.

Maybe I'll roast the peanuts tonight and tomorrow.  I'd sure liek to taste those Martha Washingtons that Callies doing.  They sound delicious.

A trick for getting done fast....I put my dipped chocolates on small cookie sheets and pop them in the freezer for about 5 minutes.  It sets the chocolate faster and I get more done in a shorter time.  Might work for Marthas.

So cold here today. I wanted to just stay in my PJs again. But as usual. Out of Milk. Going to stock up on canned milk again as I can get bye with it for a day. So got all dressed. Decided to just go to Aldi. Across the Highway. As usual got a lot more than just milk. Saw snow flurries coming down. Good time to prepare to stay indoors for days.
Have lots of letters to write and put into the few cards I send out. Mostly New Year Cards.
Got lots of movies and books from the library. Started on one with 5 discs covering the whole Series. So good. I had never heard of it. Its Australian. (A place to call Home). the name of it. One disc last for 4 hours.

JaneS, not sure how well the MW candy would mail but I'd surely share if I could.
I mix the filling and keep it in a big Tupperware salad bowl in the fridge.  When that Round Tuit shows up  :),  I fill a cookie sheet with balls.  .
My freezer is too small for even a small cookie sheet - but I can get one large enough to hold 48 candy balls in the fridge. They're firm enough to dip by the time the chocolate is melted in a double boiler
I turn either the Tupperware Cake--tainer or the Pie-tainer upside down and stack them in the lid with wax paper in between the layers.  The bottom of the "....tainer" then becomes the lid.

One time, I took a lot of cookies to some event that were packed that way.  A day or so later, one of my friends called and asked what Tupperware piece I'd used.  She had looked all through the catalog and couldn't find it.  Before I told her what I'd done, I suggested she turn the catalog upside down and look again.  ;D

I don't have a crock like my mother did so my fruit cake is "aging" in my tupperware cake taker (or whatever they called it way back when).  And right now my pie taker is upside down and full of peanut butter cups.  (My catalog must have been upside down, too.

I have all the peanuts roasted and ready to pack in bags.  One more chore out of the way.

Maybe I'll just stop by for a visit and you'll serve me a Martha Washington candy.  I did look up the recipe on the internet but I think I'd rather you made them than I.  I'm all candied out right now.

Never did get my nap today so I think I'll go pack the peanuts and hit the hay!  I finally have an idea for Kiran and I want to explore that tomorrow.  She has a birthday on the 18th and then Christmas right after that.

I will bid you all Good Night and may God bless us, every one!

June, looks like this cold has found a home in my head and with a cough to boot.  I am fixing to go to bed and see if I can sleep some of the thing away.

Sadly, the young man. that got hit by the train, they are now saying may have committed suicide.  Evidently they now have TV cameras on trains and it showed him jumping in front of the train as it approached.
His mother was on the five oclock news and says he did.

Off to bed.  Cold, cold and I am getting chills.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams

Stopping in to say GOOD NIGHT to EVERYFRIEND!

Nothing new to talk about here....have been in the house for two days now.....way too cold to get out.  We officially hit -10 last night.  Have some snow on the ground none of which melted as it was too cold.

Sorry to read about your coming down with a cold and cough, HAL.  I hope it does not get you too down...take care.

Pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

Hunting Doctors

Five doctors went duck hunting one day. Included in the group were a GP, a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, a surgeon and a pathologist. After a time, a bird came winging overhead. The first to react was the GP who raised his shotgun, but then hesitated.

"I'm not quite sure it's a duck," he said, "I think that I will have to get a second opinion." And of course by that time, the bird was long gone.

Another bird appeared in the sky thereafter. This time, the pediatrician drew a bead on it. He too, however, was unsure if it was really a duck in his sights and besides, it might have babies. "I'll have to do some more investigations," he muttered, as the creature made good its escape.

Next to spy a bird flying was the sharp-eyed psychiatrist. Shotgun shouldered, he was more certain of his intended prey's identity.

"Now, I know it's a duck, but does it know it's a duck?" The fortunate bird disappeared while the fellow wrestled with this dilemma.

Finally, a fourth fowl sped past and this time the surgeon's weapon pointed skywards. BOOM!! The surgeon lowered his smoking gun and turned nonchalantly to the pathologist beside him.

Food For Thought

Let It Die
(By Steve Troxel)

During the three short years of Jesus' earthly ministry, He performed many miracles and preached to crowds large and small. But the moment of greatest acceptance came the week before Jesus was crucified as He entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. A large number had gathered from all over Israel in preparation of the Passover: "They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!'" (John 12:13).

Many would view this as the high point of Jesus' ministry. He had gained a great following and the people even hailed Him as the new King of Israel. But Jesus knew this was not His Father's will. Jesus came for a much greater purpose than to be a temporary king; He came for an eternal glory which required His death.

John 12:24 "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds."

Jesus spoke these words in reference to His sacrifice on the cross which would occur in a few short days, but His message of death was also intended for us today. Obviously He's not saying we should all be physically crucified, but Jesus IS saying we must experience a death; "whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it" (Matthew 16:25). Paul explains this even more directly; "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature" (Colossians 3:5).

Our earthly nature is home to all our sinful desires, but it is also the source of all the ambitions and dreams not formed by God. When we tightly hold to our dreams and are driven (or drive others) by our own ambitions, we choke what God desires to accomplish and never see the full potential of Christ - never see the abundant life God desires us to live.

We have a tendency to dream and make plans, and then spend our time and energy pursuing the dream rather than truly pursuing Christ. Our dream may even appear very Godly - we may strive for a dynamic ministry or children who love and follow God - but until we allow EVERYTHING within us to die and be replaced by the love of God, we will never experience His very best or witness His most beautiful fruit; "and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20).

Let's allow the plans of Christ to reign absolutely supreme. We were created for so much more than we can imagine! Let's cast off all sin and leave ALL we hold dear at His feet. He will raise up what He desires to use for the glory of His name, but first we must resolve to let it die.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's now 28º in Central PA.  I fear that winter is upon us!  Geemogotchies are the uniform of the day and we all walk around smoking like chimneys able to see our breath with every one we take.  I know, other areas have colder temps and so will we in Jan and Feb. but the first full week of it is always a shock!

Today I'll be greeting my public from behind the counter at Wally World.  It becomes more difficult to make myself get ready for that activity each day.  Once I'm there, I'm fine and I truly like the people .... those I work with and those in my line.  The people are what make the job good!

I might stick around and get my ears lowered today if my favorite girl is there.  She brings such joy to her job that it's contagious.  And I love the way she cuts my hair.

My good neighbor across the street is having computer problems and he asked if he could have a few minutes with mine this morning to do a couple of financial things so I'm going to get ready for work early so he can have whatever he needs on the computer.  I'm off to feed the doggies and then to the shower.  Make it a good day filled with whatever strikes your fancy.

Joanie, I'm sitting here with baited breath waiting for you to notice that the punch line is missing from your joke.  I'll check later to see if you've added it!

Good morning, Amy.  Take it easy when you are waltzing with that shovel.  I know your husband will cherish that quilt you are making him.

Janie--Good morning.  It's chilly here this morning, but certainly not as cold as it is there.  I hope all at WM are wearing smiles today.  I guess you'll have to make up your own punch line.  Once I use "stuff" I delete it.  Sorry about that.

Five
Doctors
Go
Hunting

Five doctors - a general practitioner, a paediatrician, an internist, a surgeon, and a pathologist - decided to take a weekend trip and go duck hunting.

Soon after they were in their duck blind, a bird flew over and the general practitioner said, “I think that is a duck,” and so he took aim and slowly squeezed the trigger…but then he lowered his rifle and said, “I better get a second opinion.” “Back of the line,” said the group.

Another bird flew overhead and the paediatrician said, “I think this one is a duck too,” and he took aim…only to lower his rifle and say “but that duck might be a mother have baby ducks somewhere.” “Back of the line,” said the group.

A third bird flew overhead and the internist shouted, “That looked like a duck, etiologically classified as Animalia, Chordata, Aves, Anseriformes, Anatidae, based on the size, I am judging it to be a male, with an estimated weight of…” Before he could finish his thorough assessment or raise his rifle, the bird was gone. “We do not need to hear all that gibberish. Leave it to me,” said the surgeon.

Then a fourth bird flew overhead and the surgeon immediately raised his rifle and with no hesitation shot the bird out of the sky. He then turned to the pathologist standing next to him and said, “now go find out if that was a duck.”

Good morning everyone, just heard on local weather that we might have snow later today. Glad I do not have anywhere to go today.  How I have changed. Snow never kept me home and I enjoyed going out in it. I always said when I started not being our in the snow I would know I was old. Guess I am OLD now. Saw a huge pile up of cars and trucks in a snow accident, did not catch where it happened.

HAL  smart man staying home when you feel that cold coming on. I worked once with a woman who would come to work with a cold and cough and sneeze without ever covering mouth or nose.  I tried staying far away from her. I hope yours leaves you fast. No fun at any time. I did sleep good last night and I was in bed a little after 8.

MARY ANN  I used to get the pepperoni Stouffer's French bread pizza, love it and I have not bought it in a year or more now. Think I had enough of it for awhile because I used to buy it almost every week. I have an eye doctor appointment in a couple of weeks. My eyes feel dry lately, maybe I need some eye drops.

JOAN  that GERC is no fun. I remember before I was prescribed the med for it how I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I could spit fire. That was the one thing the doctor I had for 10 years or more did for me, sent me for that scope down my throat and that doctor prescribed it for me. That dr. bedside manner couldn't even say it right.

JOY  I remember the first time the tech I used to have got into my computer from his home and every thing started moving around with me just sitting and watching. I was surprised to say the least and is still fascinates me when I see that. I tried those no cook noodles for lasagna but like the ones you boil first much better.

JUNE  I often think now about how little we appreciated our good health when we were young. We just lived out lives in the present never thinking about the future.

LLOYD  now we know those cantankerous computers are MALE.  If they were female they would cause no problems and would work right all the time.

CALLIE  when my sister lived in Oklahoma she gave me lessons on how to say pecan. Wish I had heard of the Martha Washington candy when I was making candy. I would love the filling and the way you make it, too. I love dates. My family would have loved them, too.

GLORIA de  I was first told about 6 years ago by an orthopedic doctor that I was too old for surgery and that hip is where most of my pain is.

MARY ANN  I saw that accident on TV but did not catch the name of where it happened.  Never saw so many vehicles in a pile up before.

CALLIE  glad I am not the only one who has used the pie/cake Tupperware containers upside down.  When I packed the chocolate dipped balls to Ca. I would put wax paper between the layers. What I worked at Tupperware the pie keeper was one of the gifts they gave us. Most of the Tupperware I have was a gift from them. Once a month they would give us something and at Thanksgiving they gave us a turkey and Christmas they gave us many things and for Easter we got an 8 pound canned ham.

JOAN  a sticky bun will be finger licking good this morning. Hunting Doctors, hmm wonder if we should trust surgeons after that one. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  I'll be there for those coconut macaroons. I never get enough of those.

JANE  from what I see on the TV now it is 30° here.

Gloria and any others, the accident was on I-96 between Lansing and Detroit near Fowlerville.  Three people died and 11 were injured.  I never saw such a mess as some of the cars being jammed together between semis.  I think I-96 is open now but it was closed for some time.  I live near I-96 in Grand Rapids as it goes across the state.

Hi everyone.  We had a sunny and cold 30 degree morning here but now up in the mid-40's and will stay there today.  I just got back from getting a haircut this morning as was beginning to look like the shaggy dog.  Other than that I expect to stay home today and have no big projects to work on but several small things.  Yesterday was a pretty busy day as usual with Pat's monthly chiropractic appointment at 4 pm, which I had forgotten about but fortunately she hadn't.  I did watch the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Oakland Raiders last evening and then had a good 8 hours of sleep.

Joan, my Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance pays for the Part B costs, except for my co-pay, which is 15% of the BC/BS allowed amount.  I try to be very careful to use Preferred providers.  If I had part B I probably wouldn't have any out-of-pocket co-pays but would have the monthly cost of Part B for both of us and we can cover a lot of small co-pays for what that premium would be. I am most hopeful that this next year our medical expenses will go down some as our CPAP machines are now paid for and it will only our share of the cost for our supplies for them .  However, we will take whatever comes as can't predict the future.

Gloria, being in a handicapped equipped apartment I am surprised the cabinets are so high.  Stacey had the same problem and we got her a stool but I don't think she was able to use it, especially when she had to be in the wheelchair.

Hal, sorry to read you have come down with a cold.

Mary Ann, doing the postings in bold black and a larger font is just a matter of acquiring a new habit. I put the code into a word document that I keep open in the task bar and it saves the coding each day as I start to write.  I am glad this is helpful to you.

Joy, glad to see your Kindle problem was resolved.  Obviously you are not the only person to experience the problems you had.

JaneS, I bet Kiran will love being able to help you decorate.

Looks like I didn't get in to say goodnight to all of you, and I am sorry…I guess I was more tired than I thought.

Hal I'm sorry to read that you may have a full blown cold coming on. Don't treat it lightly like most of you males tend to do, seek medical help when needed, O.K. ??? I tend to agree with LLoyd, if it is "just" a simple cold, the honey, lemon, and bourbon is good medicine, but I prefer to add it to a hot cup of tea, clears out the nasal pipes, and even if it doesn't help, you really don't care.

Jenny, with the cold weather you are getting, home is the place to be. Nice thing about freezing temps…it kills a lot of germs, right ?

Bis, I heartily agree with the thought of the day. Actually releasing ones Self to the One who created us……our Father…..we cease to be afraid or lonely or worried.

Gloria, when we were young, we didn't worry about the future at all…we were either too busy, having too much fun, or just didn't care about being old….now we are there, we are enjoying our memories, hoping for a tomorrow, and accepting what IS. Right ???

Since others find it easier to read the bold print, I will try to remember to follow suit, it is easy enough to do.

My housekeeper will be coming back to finish her weekly chores in my place, so I will depart soon. Have a happy day all……

I'm home and it was super busy again.  I'm weary and my foot hurts.  And that's all the complaining I'm going to do.  However, I am going to answer the call of the couch and let the zzzs take over for a bit.  I woke up way to early this morning.  I had a cramp in my foot and I kept trying other positions to ease and finally I wondered aloud why I didn't just get up and forget about the stupid cramp.  So I got up...at about 5:15.  Boy, was I ready for work early!

I don't remember if I reported that I made the peanuts last night.  No chocolate, just plain, homemade, oven roasted peanuts for all the guys in the family!  I put some of the leftovers in the hidey hole.  Have a snack if you've a mind to.  In the words of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, "I shall return!"

Janie--I can empathize with you about the cramps.  A few nights ago I woke up with terrible cramps in both feet and both legs.  I hobbled to the kitchen and got a glass of Gatorade.  That didn't help.  After about two hours the cramps ceased.  I am going to the "hidey hole" and get some peanuts.  Thank you.

The hardest part when one has leg cramp in bed is getting that leg out and onto the floor but, it does work, even on carpet, just touching your toes, well if you can reach your foot lower is better....the flatter the better...and it works instantly...I have often done that without getting out of bed, even keeping my eyes shut then going back to sleep.....The art is, the quicker you do it, the quicker the cramp goes....well it has never failed me yet...touch wood...

For years I have had severe leg cramps usually but not always right above the knee. I have  awakened out of a deep sleep with a cramp and I need to quickly shake my leg or I am frozen in pain for the duration of the cramp.

The quick movement or shake seems to work for me. I would never be able to move about with one of these cramps.

My other solution is to point my feet up, bending them up  from the ankle.  When the cramp is like a knotted muscle that seems to "untie" the knot.  These ideas all depend, of course, on what kind of cramp we're having.  Nothing works the same for everyone.   ;)  It's interesting to see all the different treatments.

Good Afternoon,

Sorry, no cookies in the hidey-hole.  :(   Not sure what I did wrong - but they were a Total Disaster! I accidentally dropped one and I'd swear it bounced!
I was baking them for a neighborhood Christmas Home Tour tomorrow evening - so am substituting an equal amount of MW candy pieces.  Almost had enough made - have made more to be dipped in chocolate. after they've chilled or before bedtime - whichever Round Tuit I find first.   ;D

I sometimes wake up with a very painful cramp in the calves of my legs.  Standing up and pushing my heels down on the floor really hard  gets rid of it.

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Hello again, Everyfriend!  Thanks for all the input on cramps.  I'm a real fan of Gatorade for severe leg cramps.  it usually works for me.  In this case, all it took was some walking around on the foot.  I've used Gatorade since my 24 year old grandson was 12.  He's the one who got me started.  I had a leg cramp at their house bad enough to make me stand up from the table.  Without missing a bite he said "Give her some Gatorade".  I've kept Gatorade in the house ever since.

I did sleep...longer than I thought I would and then I got up, went down the hall and came back and let the doggies out, sat down in the recliner and napped a bit more.  I guess I was more tired than I thought.

Before I went to sleep, I put some chicken noodle soup on to simmer.  The chicken and broth were already cooked and I added some veggies and some noodles and set it to simmer.  It's ready for supper and I'm going to go eat some now.  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend.

angelface--Guess different things work for cramps in various parts of the body.

Jeanne Lee--I've tried pointing my feet up but when the cramps are also in my whole leg, that doesn't work for me.

Callie--Sorry the cookies were such a disaster.  Your cramp relief doesn't work for me because they are in my entire legs and feet.

Janie--Unfortunately Gatorade didn't work for me this time.  It has helped on other occasions.  You needed that sleep.  Your chicken soup sounds good for a cold day.

Chicken Soup was delicious and so easy to do when the chicken and broth are already done.  We had a few snowflakes this evening...not enough to do anything except leave some ice on the car windshield.  I went out and put the car in for the night.  I hope it doesn't snow any more because I'm planning to finish my Christmas shopping tomorrow and I won't do it in snow.

I have one small chore to do tonight before I go to bed.  I have Christmas Carols playing right now.  Sounds very peaceful.

Just coming in to say Good Night, it is after 9. on a cold windy night.
It was a long day, first Homemakers, where we made potatoes pancakes, and had them with apple scauce  Then in the afternoon PT, the trainer said I could go for shots again, hip surgery, or come back there for more work outs.

Gloria I have dry eye, and the eye doctor told me to use drops 4 times a day. We may have snow snow Sunday. Monday I go to the heart doc.

I'm not sure I went back far enough to catch all the posts.... I also woke up with screaming leg cramps in both legs, that doesn't happen often for me.... the last couple nights.  I rubbed & patted & wiggled but the calves were hard as brick until I gave up & went to the kitchen to get something to eat.  Food is the cure for everything for me.  Time I start hitting the vitamins again, been depending on Tums to give me enough calcium but guess my body is wanting more.

Mycheal, I've been taking 1,000 mg Tums every night but when I start getting the leg cramps I switch to my Puritan's Pride Bone meal + extra A & D... and Fergon iron & then the Pantothenic & B-1.  I can take that just a couple days & back to the Tums for months.  I am concerned about taking too much iron but the bone meal doesn't work without the iron & vice versa.  Pantothenic is an enzyme (B-5) & the B-1 fends off my allergies & shingles.  Works for me, I just wait until my body gives the signal & I do pay attention!

Linedancer, I'm dying to know what recipe you used for the potato pancakes.... my mother used to make them & I've never come up with anything that tastes quite like them.

Sorry I have been so absent minded lately, have had tons of to-dos to get everything ready for the hard freeze that we are in right now.  My neighbor buddy had a shocking diagnosis last week and started radiation every day for the next 5 weeks.  I've been so worried about her, no appetite and you know how I love to feed people and critters, she comes in here to check up on everyone so please say a prayer for Sylvia and tell her she needs to eat!!!  Seriously, she is handling this like a trooper & is eating enough to nourish, just not my food.

I also had a high school cheerleading friend tell me this week that the doctors discovered he has an aggressive type of dementia with a 6 month time limit.  Lots of tests & no prior warning.  He checked himself into a memory unit the day after I talked to him, asked me to call him again in a couple days when he got settled, that he would have his phone.  When I called, his daughter answered.... she said he changed almost over night & the phone was frustrating him so she took it with her (lives in another town).  She asked me to tell all of our friends because "he remembered the old days but not what he said or did a couple hours ago".  We have a lot of our class on an e-mail list but I also called some.  The daughter gave me the name & phone # of the lady in charge of his unit, so I called to ask her if it would upset or be okay to ask everyone to send him a Christmas card to let him know we cared.  She thought it was a good idea.

So now I really have to get busy & put up all my Christmas decorations & tree, I'll post a photo when I get done.  I have bags & bags of "fun size" candy to hang on the tree.  The kids are impressed with all that candy (I get what I like since I know there will be lots of left overs.... I put more on as it is taken off).  I bought some beautiful ornaments for the great-grands & ordered from Amazon the white pens to put their names & date... & from Great Grammy, in hopes they will save until they are old.  The grands got gift cards & my kids & spouses got cash.  But I'm thinking about doing some more shopping to surprise them.  I know I'm lucky to have such a big family and never know if things will change tomorrow, so enjoy the day!

And now I'd better go check on cats.  I think they are all inside but about time for their "midnight snack"... and mine.  Can't believe this is a week end again!  Sweet dreams to all.  Hal, take care of that cold, my daughter & a bunch of the family caught a bug during the Thanksgiving gathering.... daughter is still fighting after a couple rounds of antibiotics.  I'm a believer in hot salt water gargle but my mother used vinegar & honey, spoon full of each.

I'm rambling so will say, "Good Night & God Bless".... Shirley

Leg Cramps.....I have been fascinated by the variety of how you have used various methods to help yourselves. Leg cramps for me are a way of life, but I know the reason for them. My legs do not get enough oxygen due to my clogged arteries. The blood carries oxygen to our bodies, hence the cramps. Massage helps me, walking the floor in the middle of the night, and when I want to groan and screech, I pray. God does hear, and He does help me. Some may say it is just coincidence, or I am imagining the lessening of pain. I'm not that strong minded, believe me. It is an answer to prayer.

It's been a busy day but I retired by late afternoon. I had forgotten we were to sing at the giving of bonus checks for the employees today, but it seems to have gone quite well, in spite of my forgetting to dress Christmassy, and forgot my song book at home. Fortunately I was far from being the only one...so we were given more song books, and I was not the only one not wearing something red or green.

I am sure most of you are already tucked in for the night, so I will say a quiet Good Night and God Bless you. June.

Good Vocabulary

Stressing the importance of a good vocabulary, the teacher told her young charges, "Use a word ten times, and it shall be yours for life."

From somewhere in the back of the room, came a small male voice chanting, "Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, Amanda."

Food For Thought

The Challenge of a Little Boy's Lunch
(By Rev. Eric McGrath)

This Sunday we are beginning a new feature during our morning services called Children's Corner. I will be sharing a children's story with a biblical truth tucked away in it.
This Sunday we are hearing a 1st person account of the little lad who gave his lunch to the Saviour. His concluding remark is: "Just think - if he can make so much of my lunch, what will he do with my life?"
Have you ever stopped to think about that? I have to confess it stopped me where I was to reflect on it's impact. What if I gave my life to the Saviour, what could He do with it?
Maybe like me, your first thought is - but I am giving my whole life! But when we step back from that for a moment and evaluate it, are we really? Does God really have all of our life or just parts of it?
Am I really sold out to God? Am I truly seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousnesses, and allowing Him to add all of the other things to my life?
The challenge of a little boy's lunch - how will you and I respond?

Lovingly,
Pastor McGrath

Thought of the Day

"We believe that the time has come for doing more fully what He has commanded us; and by His grace we intend to do it. Not to try, for we see no Scriptural authority for trying. Try is a word constantly in the mouth of unbelievers, . . . far too often taken up by believers. In our experience, ‘to try’ has usually meant ‘to fail’. (The Lord’s) command is not ‘Do your best,’ but ‘DO IT’."

I'm up and attem this morning!  Well, I'm up anyway!  I'll be getting attem soon.  I had a very interesting email this morning.  Kiran's mom told me that she had been expresing an interest in rocks, etc on some of their recent camping trips and that might be something to consider for Christmas.  I started looking and I was overwhelmed!  Then I had a thought and I googled the geology department at Bucknell and picked out one of the professors and sent her an email outlining my dilemma and asked if she had time to advise me on something that might help to pique the interest of a 10 year old.  Not only did she answer with a very good suggestion and a clickable where to look for it but she invited Kiran to visit the department and she would show her around!  My day began great!

Cathy and I are going shopping and, hopefully, I'll finish my local shopping today.  Now I have to feed the doggies and get dressed.  Annie is telling me it's time in no uncertain terms.

Make today a good one.

Good morning, Janie.  Great that Kiran is interested in Rocks.  And what a nice professor to answer your email with suggestions and invite Kiran to her department to look around.  Yes, I would say you hit "gold" on this one.

Good morning, Joan and all the other friends.

Since you provided a choice of hot or cold cereal this morning, I will fix some cream of wheat.  I never liked the consistency of oatmeal, but do like cream of wheat with all the different varieties they have now.   Thank you for the choices.

I am off to our local Ag Center that has a farmer's market/craft show  several Sat. during the holidays.  They also have it in the summer months also. I have several friends who have stands there, so it will be nice to catch up with them and get some goodies, also.  Lots of home-made bakery and food items, plus a lot of nice hand-made crafts. I can always find something different.

My daughter-in-law, her sister and niece will pick me up about 9:30, so I need to get moving.  It takes me twice as long to get ready now, as it used to.  Don't move too quickly anymore, and have to rest in between my shower and getting dressed.  So frustrating at times.  But, I still try to keep putting one foot in front of the other.  That was a favorite saying from one of the friends from the old Senior Net,  Sylvia.  And, I still try to remember to do that.

For some of you that knew Bobbie Gould,  you might want to keep her in your thoughts, as she lost her son this week.  He had been sick for a while.  I do still keep in touch with her.  She is a special lady and has some health issues herself.  So, I know she would appreciate your thinking of her at this sad time.  She is living with her daughter now.

Have a great day.

Joy

Good morning, Joy.  To tell you the truth, I don't really care for any hot cereal.  The farmer's market/craft show sounds like fun and nice to be with family.  I certainly will say prayers for Bobby Gould.  May her son rest in peace.  I had heard that Bobby, herself, was not well.  It's a blessing she is now living with her daughter.

Hi everyone on another bright, sunny and cold Saturday morning.  When I got up this morning it was down to 28 degrees and we will see only the mid-40's today but we have no wind so that shouldn't be uncomfortable.  Yesterday I wore my leather coat for the first time since last winter and it felt great.  The calendar is clear today.  I do think Pat and I will go out to eat later today so she can get out of the house for a little bit.

Interesting comments on ways to deal with leg cramps.  Thankfully it has been quite awhile since I experienced one.

Callie, I bet no one will complain with the Chocolates instead of the cookies.

Patricia, those were big "round toits".  The couple I have gotten over the years probably weren't more than an inch or so across and thin.

deAngel, did you ask the trainer if there was another choice as those he offered don't sound all that desirable.  My wife has suffered with dry eyes for years and uses drops and a lubricant at night.  I keep telling her that her maintenance cost is really getting out of control.  She isn't amused.

Mycheal, I don't think I knew of the remedy of taking a Tums for leg cramps.

Shirley, that is a lot of radiation your neighbor will experience these next five weeks.  It is good that she has a positive attitude as that helps so much.  Also shocking news about your friend with the dementia.  He will probably appreciate the Christmas cards as it sounds like he would be able to recall the classmates since that was in the past.

JaneS, can you purchase rock displays?  That trip to the geology department at Bucknell sounds like it would be very interesting and certainly something out of the ordinary.

Joy, certainly sorry to learn that another friend  has lost a child.  It is something we never get over although we have to go on with our lives.

Good morning everyone, it is a brr one here. The sun is shining but not doing much to warm up and there is still frost on the cars.  21°, of course with the wind it feels colder. Just heard on TV that is feels like 13°. A day for geemogotchees for sure.
On Wednesday and yesterday I had a different CNA here. The one I usually have is out with the flu. She should be here Monday. I told her boss when she called me I told her she better be over it when she comes back. I have enough health problems without getting even a cold.

JOAN  58° would feel good here today. Glad I do not have to go out.

LARRY  the stool I bought would be the right height to work at the counters but no place for my knees. The cabinets are straight down, no over hang to work on. There are a lot of us shorties living here and we all have the same problem with the height of the counters and the sink in the bathroom. There is one lady and 3 men here that are tall and they are fine with them. Several here say the same thing, must have been a tall man who designed this place who had no idea what a handicap person needs.

JUNE  at our ages we just take one day at a time and be glad to have today.

JANE  when I was young and living in Fall River, there was a lady on Main street with a little store and she had a machine to roast peanuts in the shell. You could smell it before you got there, we would bet a bag of them for 5¢ and they were so good. Had not thought of that in years.

JEANNE LEE  that cold floor is what I do with a leg/foot cramp and it does work. No carpeting in this apartment so easy to find a cold floor. That is the only thing that works for me.

CALLIE  seems like every time I baked something for a food sale or whatever it was a disaster. Making for family it was always the way it should be.

GLORIA de  when the heat is on in here the air gets dry. About time I set ssome water in containers near my plants so they get the moisture they need.

SHIRLEY  I know about having no appetite, I know I have to eat but after a few bites I am full.

JOAN  this is a morning for hot cereal. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  hope your roads are clear for Monday.

JOY  I remember Bobbie, I was lucky to meet her when she was in RI. Lovely lady.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND.

We had a bit warmer day yesterday and will today as well, then the frigid air is coming again.  We did get out yesterday and it sure was good..... day after day of being home bound is not good.

I have read all the thoughts regarding leg cramps and took note of the many suggestions.  I find that I have leg cramps when I do not consume enough water....  just another thought.

Sad to read of the many friends that are dealing with cancer treatments, now the poor soul with the onset of dimentia.  Gee, I don't think I have ever heard of someone getting so bad so quickly.

I am sorry to read about Bobbie's son passing away.  It is always so hard to accept a child passing away, no matter what the age.  Special HUGS to all of you that have been in this situation.

LARRY, my sweet hubby made a comment to me not long ago about the cost of maintenance as well, and I can assure you, I, too, was not amused!  Oh my, we sure do get a lot of laughs around here with much that is going on.  One has to laugh.....the other option is not nearly as fun!

I wish you all a good day.

Good morning, Gloria.  I know 58° doesn't sound cold but living here, I think our blood thins, and it sure feels chilly.  Good thing your regular CNA had sense not to come when she was not well.

Good Afternoon,  Folks!

Cold weather is here on the rocky coast of Maine...  but  'tis expected, since we are close to the middle of December..

All is well here.   I am just playing catch up on all the Series on Showtime that I have neglected through out the years,  when all of my attention was focused on Cable News Lies.

It is funny how peaceful I feel now that I can carefully choose what  headline "News"  I choose to investigate.
I don't miss all the blah, blah, blah....

Good Afternoon dear friends, I am taking to day "off". Have so much mail to take care of, so hoping I will get "toit" today. Did go down for a leg check, and to have a re-newal on a prescription, but came home so tired I lay down and feel asleep again. So I am obeying the body for sure. No other choice.

We are having cloudy weather today, which I do not mind at all.

Sandy, it really pleases me to read that you can control your desire to "feel peaceful". That is a gift, girl. I am happy for you.

I am thinking of Hal...he was feeling "fluey" and not been in that I have seen, for two days now.

I have heated up some soup for lunch, and it is now 2 p.m. so I think I had better go eat "lunch'.

I have most of my shopping done now, thanks in part to Cathy for driving me around while she did some looking and buying.  And thanks in part to the internet and my new friend at Bucknell University.  I found the item that she suggested for Kiran and I bought 2 of them so Mommy or Daddy can accompany her on her rock hunts.  Maybe even Grammy could go once or twice.  Now I need a few neat rocks.  Maybe I'll take a ride in the country.

I was beat when we got home but I got what I needed and I don't have to go there again.  Thank goodness for that.  I'm only about half the shopper I used to be.  Wonder where the other half went?  I'm appreciating the internet this year.

The doggies are telling me it's supper time and my stomach is beginning to think they are right.  After supper, it's pajamas and a movie....and maybe a few zzzs!

I have to take cookies for coffee hour tomorrow.  I hope I don't forget.  I made them and they turned out great.  Sorry, Callie!

Janie, if you have a river nearby or a BIG lake you would find some water washed rocks there..or search the net. I am so glad you inquired the Net and found a new friend at the University. I think Kiran will be thrilled to pieces.

Bis I spent a loooong time on the computer composing a Christmas letter that I will send out to friends that have no computers, so it is rest time again.

Sandy, I am so happy for you that you have found the route to peace in your life. You are a wise lady.

Thanks for the suggestions, June but I already asked the professor about visiting the river bank and she said  while we'd find lots of rocks there, they've been washed smooth and that removes most of the character from them.  She is going to give me a list of places to go nearby that have rocks with character including some with fossils but I won't have a chance to visit them before her birthday next Sunday.  Maybe in time for Christmas.  We do have mountains not so far away and there are sure to be some rocks to pick up there.  I just want her to have a couple to actually look at with her lens.  I'll find something.  I'm almost as excited about this gift as I'm sure she will be.

I just went in the corner of my kitchen where my toaster sits and found a brand, spanking new one sitting there.  It seems the kids conspired to buy it for me and Craig (alias Santa) came over and put it in place while Cathy and I were shopping.  Mine was on it's last legs and either didn't toast at all or burnt the heck out of whatever I put in there.  I think they love their Mama!
