Sandy

Good Morning everyone from the typical cold and Wintry rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here,  as I have no plans for today except to enjoy my Presidents last day in office.  And to say Good Bye and I will miss you President Obama.  And thank you for all that you have done for us.   I miss you already.

Joan....
I hope that  you are OK.   And is there someone there to help you or check up on you??     Please let us know h ow you are doing.

Sandy

Oh My! Joanie!  I'm so sorry to hear that you fell.  I hope you don't have any leftover jars to make tomorrow a sore one.  Sometimes the jar of the fall doesn't show until  the next day.  I hope that's no so with you!

I finished less than half of one of my necessary chores and I had to rest my back a bit.  I suppose it's time to get back at it.  I'm afraid I'm just goofing off because i really don't want to do it.  I love the doggies but there was a lot hidden by the snow for a few weeks.  Now I need to deal with it.

I guess I should play Pollyanna and say "I'm glad it's outside and not inside."

Those of you who have sunshine, enjoy it!  Those of you who have rain and need it, enjoy it!  Those of you who have whatever you want, enjoy it!

JOAN....
...dont want you starting our trend off re, falling....seriously, as others have said, falls ARE frightening, and its after effects sure leaves you a lot doddery and nervous, wondering if others will follow.....I too am getting to terms with trying to miss them...Just a hindsight, should you be getting your canister checked, but only if the canister went down with you...

phyllis

Joan, that worries me.  I am so glad you didn't hit anything on the way down and I hope very much that you don't have any after effects.

Good morning, Larry.  I am going to make my comments short.  I'm not whining, but knees, right foot and right arm are hurting.

Good morning, Joy.  I've had to have oxygen for several years, and this is this first time I got tangled up in it.

Sandy--Good morning. My across the street neighbor checks on me.  If I really needed help I'd press my LifeLine.

Janie--The soreness has shown up already--hope that's all there is to it.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  When at home my tubing is hooked to a large canister which resides in my bedroom.  The only time I fill and use the hand held canister is when I am going out.

Phyllis--Don't worry about me, please.  I'll be OK.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Glad you checked in.

...that is a tad of a relief, I would just hate to know that the heavy canister fell on top of you...and just as worried in case the canister gets damaged....

Good Morning,

Joan,  I'm so sorry you took a tumble over the oxygen hose and hope you don't have any after effects.

Lloyd - so glad you're being fed well and hope you get the "all clear" to go home soon.

Janie,  your "trash pickup" is probably the main reason I don't want a dog.  Do you have a long-handled "pooper scooper"?

Hal,  so happy your bathroom remodel didn't take very long.  I'd like to do something with mine but it's between my bedroom and closet and I can't wrap my mind around having to move things out and back in again.

Phyllis, Joy and Gloria,  before she retired and the kids were all gone, my son/dil used Schwann's for their family of 5. They particularly like the breakfasts and "quick fix" items.

Joy,  sometimes I get tilapia filets at the butcher counter.  On a whim, I decided to marinate one in Balsamic Vinagrette salad dressing while the oven was heating - then baked it.  Yum- O,  as Rachael Ray would say.

Oops - that reminds me:   Miss Ellen and friends went to a taping of the Rachael Ray show and it's supposed to air today.  I have the tv set to record the show but it's almost time for it to start so I think I'll watch it live.
One of her friends should be easy to spot if there's a shot panning the audience; she's dyed her hair "Crayola red"!   I know Miss Ellen, who is a natural redhead, had on her blue-framed glasses.

Away I go......

Jeanne Lee

My 10 miles of tubing does get wrapped around an ankle now and then, but so far I've felt it and been able to step out of the loop.  However, my lifeline fall detector keeps telling me I did fall, even when I've been just sitting still. :-)  Guess it gets bored and wants to see some action.  No problem, though.  As long as I hear the announcement "a fall is detected" I can cancel the alarm easily.  It's embarrassing, though, when I'm in another room (bathroom, for instance) and don't hear it.  Then next thing I have three or four men at my door with the ambulance in the driveway.   :o  Good to know though, what would happen if (when?) I do fall and need their help.

I'm holding my nose!

Miss Ellen and friends were in five audience shots on the Rachael Ray show - two were close-ups.  What fun!

JaneS

CALLIE, what a special treat.

Also, CALLIE, the smell wasn't that bad thanks to the cold weather but I actually have to look at what I'm doing.

Sorry about that everyone.  Just ignore!  It's a fact of life in my life!  I detest emptying kitty litter!

Good morning.....bright and sunny here this morning.  Snow should do a good bit of melting today, but the next one is due.  Just got my car washed, (AGAIN) yesterday.  They warn you to get the stuff they spray on the roads off as soon as possible after a storm, but when they keep happening it sure seems wasteful.  Washed it last Saturday and immediately it was dirty again.

JOAN, I am sorry to read of your fall.  It can happen so easily, especially with the oxygen cord that our are dealing with.  I am so thankful you did not hit your head!  You will be sore for sure and probably a lot more than you can feel right now.  HUGS.

LARRY, I wanted to drive the car on our trip so I could take my scooter, however, just the thought of LONG drives makes me stressed out.... it should not, but it does.  I can take my scooter on the plane, but it is a bit of a issue, so won't do it this time. I am sorry that Jennifer was not able to join you last night.

JEANNE LEE, having the ability to detect a fall is very good....if you were knocked out, it would be a blessing for sure.

CALLIE, I hope you get to SEE Miss Ellen in her blue glasses.  EDIT... I see you saw her 5 times.  The show was over here by the time I read she was to be on there today... I need more advanced warning next time please!

JOY, it is nice that you can order Schwann's anytime you like and you enjoy the meals.  Even though they seem a bit pricey, if they are quality it is worth it.

JANE, I do hope Brittany continues to improve and will be able to return to her normal life soon.  What a scare that issue caused.

LLOYD, so happy to read there is no evidence of a clot in your leg.....hope you are able to go home soon.

I guess I had best get moving or it will be noon before I do.

Have a good day, EVERYFRIEND,

Apparently, she's there again today.  I've only read a couple of Facebook hints at the reason  - but it sounds exciting.  When I find out more, I'll certainly let it be known!

EDIT:  Now I know "why" but not "when".  Miss Ellen just posted a picture of herself with Rachael Ray - having her ears pierced on tv!   She didn't know what the air date is.

Hal, you were tired last night from doing nothing. Come join me in walking the hallways, and you will feel better grin. i find it is almost essential to walk the halls, my apt. it too small to really get enough exercise, and I must keep this blood flowing to my legs so they will remain fairly useful.

Bis, I am really groaning over todays chuckles.

Janie, no plans for me either..just more hall walking. We are still in "lock down", but fortunately for me, I am pronounced well enough to walk the hall ways. For the sake of the workers here, I pray everything will soon be open again. The staff has been delivering three meals a day to about 300 residents, plus all the other work involved in caring for the sick. They are superb, just as you are at WM. Always a smile for us.

Amy, thank you dear friend. I am feeling great, and very thankful for it.

Gloria,I found that wiping all things down with vinegar was a sure way to get rid of the ants. I even had them coming through the light switch at one time. Determined little buggers.

Oh, BIS !! I am so very sorry to read of your fall. That tubing can really be a problem at times. I used to worry so much about my mom using it. They should have the tubing on a retractable gadget so there isn't so much laying around. Are you able to doctor your scraped knees…if not I would pray you get some help.

Larry, thank you, I am feeling very good today. We can't give up "hope" can we ? What seems like a "down day" turns out to be only a lull in getting better.

Oops..my lunch has been delivered so I had better go eat...
As long as we are here, let's dance.

june--glad they are letting you wal k the halls.  I am OK-just very sore.

Since I live alone and don't necessarily see anyone for two or three days at a time, I thought it was well worth the extra cost to add the fall detection to my life line.  What I didn't add is the mobile, since if I'm away fron the house I'm always with someone.  I just haven't been able to figure out why the fall detector goes off when I'm not even moving.   :)

Click for Corinth, New York Forecast

JeanneP

JeanneLee.  Now are you wearing the button around your neck all the time?

They do say that just the least little thing could touch against the button and that would alert them like maybe you fell.  They are suppose to call on the answer machine before they send anything out to the house.
JeanneP

Jeanne Lee

Yes, I do wear it all the time.  No sense paying to have it if I don't wear it.   :D

They do call on the machine:  "A fall is detected.  To cancel press and hold the button".  that will continue until I press the button and then it says "Alarm cancelled" and shuts off.  If I dont press the button they call on the phone.  Then if I don't answer the phone they send the ambulance.  The false alarms so far have been when I was sitting perfectly still, either reading or watching TV.   I don't realy mind, it gives me a sense of protection.  ;)

I have a lifeline service that is active on all five floors of this building. However, since I got the service, I haven't fallen once. I did stop wearing it while I slept as it seems I turned over on it in bed. The service here has an intercom where they asked you if you need help and if they do not get a response, they come out.

The personnel was originally based in Fall River, Minnesota when I first received the lifeline, but it was soon connected to the hospital locally. Now the hospital collection of buildings and grounds has been purchased from a national company by a local collective. So, since I haven't fallen, I don't know how that will proceed other than the letter I received from them.

It is still frigid here and expected to remain so until the 24th or 25th.

Joan, I was sorry to read about your fall and hope you are feeling better soon. I can never seem to remember if it is ice or heat to use on these injuries.

JoanFL

Jeanne Lee--I think I will call and have "fall detected" added to my Lifeline.

Angelface--I believe you are supposed to alternate cold and hot with these injuries.

JOAN
So sorry about your fall and hope you are feeling better now. Be sure to get "fall"
I have vita call and having had two falls previously it does give me confidence to be alone.
If I press the button and they don't hear my voice, they come. My voice can be heard from other rooms or if I am in the garden. I wear it always.     Junee

June Drabek

Bis, since my last post I have been told I could go outside to walk, but just a short walk. I feel they don't want us doing any close associations for a while. There is always a lot of hugging going on. I do hope you get the Fall thing for your instrument.

Jeanne lee. I have Life Line and was told to wear it all the time, even in the shower. Mine has a recessed button so you have to actually get your finger in there to make it work. I too have the fall detector and it has worked beautifully. I do not have the call back advantage.Mine only works inside our buildings also, but like you, I know if I leave the property, it is with someone else

Hi, Junee dear, so good to "see" you here. I am glad your fall detector works outside as well as inside. Mine if just for inside the building. We can't be too careful as our years pile up, so I am thankful for these wondrous things.

I have been watching the Inauguration   parties almost all afternoon. Lots of encouragement from lots of people. Our new first lady seems quite withdrawn, but she may be too ladylike to be an outgoing personality. We shall see. Mrs. Truman was not very gregarious either. Eleanor Roosevelt was a real attribute to her husbands Presidency. I enjoy trying to "read" people.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

angelface555

Thank you for the information, Joan.

My lifeline does have the recessed button, but in twisting and turning in my sleep, it has been set off twice so I have it close by. It only works inside of my building and not outside on the grounds.

halkel

Joanie, I hope you didn't seriously injure yourself.  Kneecaps are so sensitive.  You might want to put some ice cubes on them to take some of the hurt out.

The workmen finished up about 12 noon.  The left everything spic and span and show us how everything worked in the shower, we can use it until tomorrow.  We were happy to see them leave, especially my pup.  She worried about them the whole time they were here.

Watched Trump today, boy what a crowd at the mall for him.  We definitely picked a winner this time.

Shirley

I've been here at least 3 or 4 times today, read all the posts each time & sure thought I left one, but it's not here.  I did go to the Dr about my cough.. sounds like I growl before the cough.  Heard on the news that one of the symptoms is being so totally wiped out-tired.  That's what convinced me this isn't something to mess with.  It was dark by the time I got of of the office so I didn't pick up the Z-pac he prescribed, will do that tomorrow & spread my germs.   :-[   Can't be helped, but I will make an effort to wipe my cart handles after I use, not just before.

Sorry to read about your fall, Joan, hope the jolt doesn't spread all the way up your spine, can do that.  I would suggest soaking all the sore parts.... but you (& nobody else) wants to hear that again, huh?   ;)

Going to bed, God Bless Every Friend!  Shirley

Just saying good Friday morning, it is Friday today, isn't it?.....been up since my usual time of 5.15am, after usual time of turning bedroom lamp out and getting off to sleep, dead on midnight......first cup of tea in hand, it is now 5.50am....seems 5 hours sleep is my norm....well apart from any dozing I do during the day...

JoanFL

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend.   There's Danish pastries to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

CHUCKLES

Tornado

A Kansas tornado hit a farmhouse just before dawn one morning. It lifted the roof off, picked up the beds, on which the farmer and his wife slept, and set them down gently in the next county.

Suddenly the wife began to cry. "Don't be scared, Mary," her husband said. "We're not hurt."

Mary continued to cry. "I'm not scared," she responded between sobs. "I'm happy 'cause this is the first time in 14 years we've been out together."

Guidance
(Author Unknown)

When I thought about the word guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person relaxes and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word guidance. When I saw "G," I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i." God, "u" and "I" dance.

God, you and I dance. This statement is what guidance means to me. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

Thought of the Day
