Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's a breakfast casserole to go with your coffee or tea.  I wish ALL a blessed day.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Epiphany” graphic creation which we are using this week.

The Banker

The banker had called the man in to talk about his account. "Your financial affairs are in a mess. Your wife constantly overdraws your account. She is behind in her charge accounts at the department store, and her check stubs are all added wrong. Why don't you talk to her about it?"

"Because," said the man, "I would rather argue with you than with her."

Food For Thought

Grace For Granted
(by John Coody)

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

Humanism is a life view that people, at their most basic natural levels, are good and can establish their own moral values and determine their own destiny apart from God or anyone else. The humanist view says that man is responsible only to leave the world a little better. Truth is counted as relative. Humanistic thought has influenced medical, environmental and political spheres. It has also birthed many societal ills such as abortion, euthanasia and the sexual revolution. The extreme humanist never realizes that there is no purpose or meaning in life apart from God or truth. They feel that they are absolutely sure that there are no absolutes.

The most horrifying factor in all of this is that our churches have been infiltrated with this type of thought. Grace is a wonderful gift of God. No man could be saved without it. However, the "I can do what I want, God will forgive me attitude" is just not Biblical. Paul warns in Galatians 5:13, "For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity to serve the flesh, but through love serve one another." We often take His grace for granted, and decide that our way, is better than His. Then, if our way doesn't work, we might turn to God.

We correct the problem by true repentance. This means change in our attitudes, ethics, actions, etc. II Chron. 2:17 says, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Brothers and sisters, are we in need of some healing this week? Let's stop just seeking God on Sunday morning, and truly repent and seek Him every day. There is a God. That's a fact. He is a God of mercy, grace and love. But let's not forget that He is also a God of justice and righteousness.

Thought of the Day

If Christ is the Way, we waste time traveling any other.

Good Sunday morning, Joan, Jane and Amy.  Will enjoy the breakfast casserole this morning.

The sun is beginning to shine here after our little bit of snow yesterday.  My area in Central Maryland lucked out in the snow storm.  We only had a small amount for a short time.  The sun came out in the afternoon, but , oh, it is so cold.  It was 8º  when I first got on the computer this morning about 7:30.   I had to turn up the heat a little bit.  Feels good now.

Our family Christmas party was postponed yesterday, as many family members were sick and a lot of the family lived south of where  I live and they had a lot more snow than where I live.  My son has a bad cold, and my DIL had some sniffles, but she and I were still going to the party.  However, I was kind of glad that they postponed it until later in the month.  I was just glad not to have to go out in the cold.

Nothing special going on, except I am trying to condense some boxes of Christmas decorations that I don't use anymore and trying to sort out some clothes that I don't wear anymore.  Big job for me.  I have a lot of craft supplies that I don't expect to use anymore.  Want to make some room in my walk-in closet.  I also have about a dozen pair of shoes that I can't wear anymore, so will be getting rid of them.  We have several nice stores, similar to the Good Will, that are affiliated with different churches where they help out people who need help with their heating and living expenses.  So, that is where I plan to take my things that I am discarding.  It is a good cause as they do a lot for underprivileged children, also, during the holidays.

Joan, sure hope that you will get some of the rain down your way. I saw on the news yesterday, where the west coast  of Florida was getting a lot of rain.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Joy

Good morning, Amy.  Nice you don't have to dance with any snow removal equipment today.  It'd be nice if you had time to get together with your son and daughter-in-love.

Joy--Good morning.  I need to clean out my walk-in closet, too.  There's so much in there that I don't wear.  Best you postponed your family Christmas since roads are bad and folks have colds.  We got light rain yesterday for about an hour.  Not enough to really help our dry conditions.

Hi everyone.  When I arose this morning it was 22 degrees and that is cold for South Carolina.  The sky is clear and the sun is now coming up but it will only get up to maybe forty by mid-afternoon.  I expect today will be my typical Sunday with Sunday School and Church and then bringing home something for our main meal of the day.  I will be doing the Devotional in our Sunday School class again this morning.  The rest of the day will be for rest and watching football.

Joan, we had the remainder of that soup last night for dinner and it was just as good.

Gloria, so nice to read that you are able to stand straight and are feeling less pain.  Keep up the good work.

JaneS, I just stopped writing and prayed for Jim.

Joy, it sounds like wise heads prevailed to postpone the Christmas get together until everyone feels up to it and the roads are safer and it is a bit warmer.  It is nice to know that someone will benefit from the things we no longer need or can use.

Good morning everyone, have no idea how much snow we got yesterday but when I went to bed last night it was 18° and still snowing.  10°now according to the TV. Broke a record at the airport-near the shore-with 10 inches of snow. They seldom get much there but this was a coasytal storm. Looks like about 8 inches of white from up here. For a change it was a cold snow so no rain to make it turn to ice. Kept loosing internet and TV. It was windy and it was blowing the snow off wires and trees. Wonder what Cox will come up with a reason.

JOAN  hope you got more than sprinkles yesterday. With the colder temps and rain did you get your geemagotchees out? I sure had mine on.

JUNE  were they stewed prunes? My Mom used to make them but I never did. I am so glad I changed doctor. The hew one is who set up the appointment with this pain doctor. He did not rely on a machine to find out where the pain is. He did it with his hands by poking and prodding. When he hit where it hurt I yelped and he knew where to put the shots. My back will never be what it was but can feel better.

JANE  I have a 4 cuo coffee pot and get 2 mugs from it. Will add Jim to my prayers.

PHYLLIS  wonderful graphic for this week. You do beautiful creations. Thank you.

JOAN  The Banker, smart man  picking who to argue with. Grace for Granted. I have know a few who think they knew more than God. Not happy anymore. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  isn't Jim the one that was so ill about a year or so ago? Our prayers helped then and will again.

AMY  we are the ones playing in snow today. Cannot blame Canada for sending this snow.

LARRY  I still have pain in other places in my back but not where he put the shots. Next ones will be along the spine. I can still stand straighter than I was. Wonder how long the shots will last.

CALLIE  sun is bright and beautiful here this morning.

Gloria, you are correct.  Jim is the one we prayed for about a year ago.  His condition flared up again.  I think it might not go away but he will have periods of good and bad.  This one is BAD!  Thanks to everyone for the prayers.

Good morning, Larry.  I think leftover soup tastes better than when it was first made.  Somehow the flavors tend to blend after it's been refrigerated.

Callie--Good morning.  The sun is shining here, too, but it's mighty chilly.

Gloria--Good morning.  Yes, I have my geemogotchees, wool socks, sweat shirt and winter robe out and the furnace is running.  The only rain we got was that little bit yesterday.  I sure am glad we don't get any white stuff.:)

Janie--I will continue to pray for Jim.

Good morning, Radioman.

Jane, more prayers for Jim.... don't think God cares if I say them in church or going about my house, HE listens!

Earlier this week I managed to get the photo in the Gallery that we took the Sunday before Thanksgiving... of my whole clan, minus the youngest grand that didn't get back from KC in time for the photo opt.  Plus one of the other gr-daughters gave birth to a little boy the very next day.  Looks like a lot of people, anyone interested can go over to Photos Then & Now & check it out.  I haven't been there today to save a link.  I put names on each person to send e-mail to my family & 8x10 print for Cas' brother, so used the one with names to post.  Y'all have heard me talk about these "kids" & since they all do Facebook, don't think they care about me "facebooking" them in here.   ;)

Sun is shining bright but wind is really blowing so chill index is serious, almost like not having clothes on.

I woke up about 4:00 am & discovered I had not put my FitBit back on after my shower, but have 2 clocks in the room so knew it wasn't time to get up.  Lay there until 5:00 news & got up to feed cats & myself before dressing & wrapping up for church.  Only 2 ate before I left (I fried them an egg)... so when I got back all were waiting for breakfast.  The 2 that ate earlier pretended they were starved.... so 4 shared the rest of the egg and each had a heaping T-spoon of Chicken of the Sea salmon & all went outside to check the weather.  I will go let them back in when I get out of here.

Miss Callie has been coming in to eat some of her meals but I can't trust leaving her alone for fear she will feel the need to mark her territory.... she just goes back out to the garage & out into the sun if it is shining.  She is sleeping in her heated bed again, and cloudy-cold days will stay in it all day except to get out to eat, drink or use her litterbox.  She is such a sweet cat, wish she could just stay in with the others, be easier on me.

Today I will defrost the freezer downstairs.  Will need all the big coolers to store the stuff so it doesn't thaw, I do hate this job~~  >:(   But, I know how pleased I'll be when it is done so that makes up for one lousy day!

Have a great day where ever you are..... we don't get a second chance at it!  Shirley

Well strange things can sure happen.....R was told a week or two ago from a friend on our site that his next door neighbour is looking after, and wanting to find a new home for a dog of the friend of his female partner, daughter of the mother who owns it, who is dying from cancer....and was I interested....who we sadly heard today that she has since died, just last week...Well today being the first day in almost a month I have ventured out for a downhill walk, I said to R I would love to find out the dogs breed and to take a look at it....Well would you believe, the only person outside his home was the man with the dog, the one and only younger man on our site that not too many people have seen as unlike the rest of us, he works....I couldn't believe my luck, so we went over to speak to him, had quite a lengthy chat....In a nutshell we will be having the dog in our home for the day next Saturday to see how things go....this dog is an 8 year old black male Shih Tzu....I asked many questions about the dog, as if we have him, I want it done on a legal type basis and all its medical history and insurance paperwork...Told the daughter of this 80 plus year old lady doesn't want the dog, she wanted him put down, our neighbour is now in full charge of the dog and just wants it to go to a good home....The home it has come from is from the " Sandbanks " region Poole, a very expensive place to live that only the wealthy rich live there....told this dog had been living in luxury, and that none of her family want it, just interested in her money.....just so sad...

Jane, prayers have been said for Jim. May God be with you both.

Gloria, Yup, stewed prunes. I'm still having them for breakfast and they are still working beautifully. I had a doctor use his fingers on my back and neck last time I was hospitalized and when he poke a certain area we both knew it was my neck. Now I am finding if slouch too much when using the walker, it is what is causing the problem. So I must stand straight and keep my weight on my feet rather than my arms and hands.

Don, are you still at home ? What is the departure date to see your beloved ???

I woke early today, plus having to walk the halls at midnight...but it helps. Had my good breakfast downstairs..that's getting to be a habit, but when I eat early I am not hungry for lunch. Had my bandage changed on the leg..I can actually see that the wound is starting to shrink in size. Thanks be to God !!!!!

Today my Grandson Ryan is being ordained to the Babtist Ministry. Following in his Dad's foot steps. My heart is full !

Time to get my gear in place for Chapel service at 10 a.m. It will be a treat to be back again. So I will see you all later.

Good Morning Everyone!

I started to post well over two hours ago, but the wife said she was ready to leave for church, so I got in gear and away we went.

We had the founder of our church, the big church we call it, speaking this morning.  Our minister is home in bed with pneumonia.  Seems this stuff is really going around in our area.   Hope he bounces back and it doesn't drag out like it did with my wife and myself.

Janie, prayers have been/will be said for Jim and hopefully he will improve soon.

Anyhow, I have to get my clothes changed and into my everyday clothes.  Cold here today but again shun is shinning.  It is going up to close to 80 later on this week, no wonder people are sick and then next weekend, another dip in temp with possible rain.

June, hope you fair well with the storms moving into your area.  Sounds really serious storms will be developing.  Also good news about the sore spot on your leg.  Prayers will continue for you.

When I posted last, I was just barely home from church and breakfast out with church friends.  I was changing my clothes when Cathy called and asked if I wanted to go to Kohl's and spend my Christmas gift card.  I did and I got ready and went over to her house (she's on the way) and we went shopping.  I didn't know what I was looking for but I bought a pair of shoes (marked down from $69. to $25.) and a pair of fleece jammies for $10. and 3 pairs of sox for $5.  Not bad and all things I need.

JUNE, so happy to hear that you leg is visibly healing.  Congrats to your grandson, Ryan.  What a blessing!

Thanks to everyone for the prayers for Jim.  I know they help.

Shirley, I know He listens whenever I pray but I was out to get a hundred or so more prayers for Jim.  I wanted to make sure he's on the prayer list at church so everyone there is praying for him daily.  We need all we can get.

Home from Church. I am ashamed to say I had a hard time staying awake during the speakers time to preach. Really needed some more zzzzzz...still do, but I have a two o'clock appt. with the head nurse downstairs. I need to go over the meds with her so I don't make an error when I take back doling out for myself. I felt especially bad when the young man that preached this morning gave me such a nice greeting after Church...he remembered me from last time he was here.

Janie, you got some excellent buys on your things today..especially the shoes..a great mark down. Yes Jane, I am so pleased about Ryan following in his fathers footsteps, so to speak. And now Ryans children will be raised in the Church and who knows...Zach or Jeremiah may grow up to be Pastors too.

Bis, I can only repeat what I said to our Janie about my Grandson. I am utterly thrilled.

Hal, thank you for the continued prayers, the leg does have a way to go yet. I had to have the scab taken off as you had mentioned earlier, and consequently it is healing from the inside out. Still have some pains, but that is bearable.

It will be a calm day here, with the exception of my confab with the nurse. Sunday is usually a quiet day. And tomorrow I will await a grocery delivery so that will keep me at home for four hours.

Jackie, I can think of no one that will give that doggy a happy loving home more than you and R will. The fact that both you and the dog are in the same area, seems like you were destined to be it's next family.

The sun is still shining and the temperatures are actually getting to a comfortable level.

I've been to church and OTL - but there were only two of us today.  The wait staff was concerned; one of the girls told us they all look for us every Sunday.  (Guess we won't tell them we occasionally go somewhere else "just because" )
It was so nice to eat a good hamburger/fries instead of digging around to see what was still available in my pantry or freezer.

Miss Emily and her friend had quite an adventure getting to NYC to spend a few days with Miss Ellen.  They drove to Dallas Friday - just barely missing the heavy snow that moved in here,  spent the night with friend's grandparents and flew out yesterday morning on time for the non-stop flight to NYC. .

However, the flight was diverted to Nashville because of weather conditions back east and all subsequent flights yesterday were cancelled.  So they spent the night in a hotel near the airport.  Very traumatic for two girls who haven't traveled on their own.  Lots of texting back and forth with reassurances from parents and Gammy that they were handling things well, people were being helpful and all would be fine.

Fortunately, their very early morning flight out of Nashville was on time and they have safely arrived at the NYC hotel, where Ellen was to meet them.
The airline moved their departure date to Thursday instead of Wednesday and the hotel was willing to cancel Saturday night and book them for Wednesday night - all without any fees or extra charges.

I hope they have no more "challenges" and thoroughly enjoy their visit.  (Of course, I thought they were crazy to go in January instead of during college Spring Break but I'm just the grandmother;  what do I know?   ;D)

Jackie,  my son/dil had a Shih-Tzu mix that was a wonderful doggie pet.  Sounds as if you have found one, too.

Don,  wonderful that this time next week you will be with your beloved.

June, congratulations to your grandson.  I'm so happy that your wound is healing.    I've found that putting my elbows on my hip bones when I'm using my walker  reminds me not to bend forward .

JaneS,  hooray for your shopping trip to Kohl's.  Ya done good, Girlfriend!

Hal, we're also supposed to get up into the 70's this week - and now "they" are saying we'll probably have a real Ice Storm next weekend - maybe with thunder and lightning!  There was a technical explanation but I quit listening after "ice storm".   >:(

Shirley,  I'm  :-X  and  :sealedlips: to keep from making a sassy comment about you and that FitBit!  ;)

:hugs:  to those I didn't comment to - and those who have yet to post.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Callie, that is exactly what I have found..elbows on hips, shoulders back, and I can also feel that it puts me back solidly on the soles of my feet, rather than putting a strain on my shoulders and neck. It make me happy to know that you found the same helpful posture.

I took a walk around the grounds, and it felt good to be out and about. Then decided to stop in for an early supper, not hungry, but managed to gorge down a cup of turkey rice soup, a small bowl of chili and beans, a chunk of cornbread and a glass of v-8 juice. Dragged my stuffed self back upstairs to put on night clothes, and lay down to read and relax. I have yet to prepare for my final go-around with the medicine ritual, and pick up the ones I do not have. Also need to balance that in with my grocery delivery time. All things seem to work out well in spite of my hazardous plans.

Hal, my son in Santa Cruz said they are getting more than enough rain but they have had this condition before and fortunately for them the run off is great. Our area is not scheduled for a big storm, but every drop is welcome.

I think I will close for tonight and go play with my laptop for a while. I don't want to lose what I have learned so far.

Have a peaceful night my dear, dear cyber family. I love you all so very much. God Bless you and keep you safe, and well, and Happy . June

CHUCKLES

In A Ditch

A fellow slid his car off a road and ended up in a ditch. A farmhouse was nearby so the motorist asked the owner if he had a tractor he could borrow to get his truck back on the road.

"Nope, but I got my mule, Blue," said the farmer.

"I doubt a mule is strong enough to pull my truck out."

"You don't know Blue," said the mule's proud owner.

So Blue was hitched to the truck. "Pull, Blue!" The truck didn't move. And the farmer then called out, "Pull, Elmer!" The truck moved a little. Then the farmer yelled, "Pull, Biscuit," and the truck was free.

"Thank you so much," said the truck owner. "But I have a question. You called your mule by three different names. How is that?"

"Simple," said the farmer. "Blue is blind. And if he thought he was the only one pulling, your truck would still be in the ditch!"

Food For Thought

LETTING GO OF GUILT
(by Luis Palau)

As Christians we rejoice that our salvation is secure in Christ, and that our sins are forever washed away by His blood. We marvel at God's infinite mercy to forgive us even though we don't deserve it. But often we won't forgive ourselves!

Yes, we know that "as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:12). But from sunrise to sunset we needlessly carry the heavy burden of guilt.

For some reason we feel compelled to carry these heavy burdens, even though God never asked us to carry them. Just the opposite! So as God's servants, we need to learn to let go of our guilt.

Sometimes our burden of guilt is nothing more than false condemnation. When I was a youth, my mother absolutely believed the bottom of the theater would open up and drop me straight into the fire of hell if I ever went to see a movie, regardless of its message. I felt bad even walking by a theater. Now that was false guilt!

Paul Tournier, a respected Swiss psychologist, has said, "False guilt comes as a result of judgments and suggestions of men." People sometimes seek to control or manipulate us by inventing rules or regulations the Bible never mentions. As servants of God, not slaves to man-made decrees, we need to carefully and prayerfully identify such false guilt and let go of it.

On other occasions we carry heavy burdens of guilt because we don't deal with it properly. There are at least three inappropriate responses to true guilt.

First, we can repress our guilt. We try to cover it up and deny its existence. We focus on our insignificant faults instead of acknowledging our real guilt. As a result, we lose our peace and often suffer physically as well.

Second, we can regret our "mistake." But merely saying "I'm sorry" fails to acknowledge the seriousness of our sin and our responsibility.

Third, we can feel remorse for our sin. "I'll never do it again," we promise. Judas felt remorse after betraying Christ (Matthew 27:3-4). But he fell one step short of what the Bible calls repentance.

Repentance is the biblical, correct response to guilt. The moment we committed our life to Christ, our sins--past, present, and future--were forgiven. God's righteousness was satisfied. But now we must maintain fellowship with, dependence on, and obedience to God. This necessitates confessing our sins to our Lord as we become aware of them.

C.S. Lewis said true guilt is an inner alarm system that reveals sin in our lives and shows our loss of fellowship with God. The Holy Spirit uses guilt to prompt us to turn from our sin and back to the Lord.

Once we let go of false guilt and properly deal with our sins, we are free from the burden of guilt. Isaiah 55:6 7 gives us this assurance: "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."

Let go of your burdens and turn to God today!

To Ponder:
Is there any unresolved guilt in your life? Over what? What steps, if any, have you taken so far to try to resolve it?

In Matthew 11:29-30, Jesus promises His burdens are not heavy. It doesn't make sense, then, to carry a load of guilt. Why not?

To Pursue:
If you're struggling with a vague sense of guilt, turn that over to the Lord.

Ask God to pinpoint any specific, unconfessed sin in your life. As He does, repent of that sin, remembering God gladly forgives and forgets.

Thought of the Day

"Today is a new day. We are now into a new year. Each moment is a new moment to start over and begin again. God wants to walk with you. He loves you and wants to help you make adjustments. He wants you to realize your potential. Will you let Him help? Will you work with Him to change?"

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And good morning to you, too, JOANIE!  I slept in a bit this morning and the doggies are telling me it's time for breakfast.  They don't know it's already PAST time for breakfast.  I'll go feed them and then I'll be back to see if anyone else showed up.

Make the day a good one!

Good morning, Janie.  The sweet doggies clocks must be a little off this morning.  Maybe your cold temperature made them want to stay in bed.:)  Here it is only 43° and for here that is COLD!!

It was 11° here this morning.......FRIGID!  The sun is shining brightly, thank goodness, and I have opened all the shades and blinds on the east side to help warm the house.  Tomorrow the temp. will be better....so they say.

Thanks, Gloria, for the nice comment on the graphic yesterday.

I'm getting a little housebound but only one more day and maybe I can see if the rest of the world still exists.

Add my prayers for Jim, Jane.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Your temp is, indeed, frigid.  Like your area, they are telling us that later in the week we'll warm up--in the 80s.

It's still only 12º here ( was 9 when I got up) and the furnace is on double time trying to keep up.  I got an oil delivery yesterday and it ate up all my accumulated credit from the budget plan.  And we still have February and half of January to go.  They are saying we are to have a weekend in the 40s and if that happens I might go to my sister's for the weekend.  I haven't heard anything about Jim over this weekend but they are supposed to see the dr. this morning.

I slept in my fleece lounging jammies last and I think that's part of the reason I slept better.  I was warm enough.  Everyone stay warm and cozy.  This too shall pass.

Lloyd, I noticed your post.  I've also noticed that when we post something late at night or early in the morning (before Joanie) that people tend to notice but not comment.  Don't worry.  We all love you and we miss you when you're not here.

Lloyd--I am sorry you are sick.  I did see your post.  Like Janie said, my MO is to read what people posted from the time I left my computer the night before and then post my "stuff".

Janie--It'd be nice if you could go to your sister's for the weekend.  You explained to Lloyd how I operate--not sure about everyone else.  Stay warm, my friend.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful, sunny and chilly 34 degree day here.  We will only be in the low 40's this afternoon.  The only thing on the schedule for today is my noon meeting.  Pat may want to go to COSTCO and order new glasses.  She has had the prescription for some time.  We had a big turnout for both Sunday School and Church yesterday.  The church actually exceeded its budget last year and ended up in the black.  I think this is the first Church I have ever attended that has experienced this.

Jackie, I hope this new dog will be the proper fit for you all as it sounds like it needs a good home and you certainly take care of your pets.

June, how wonderful about Ryan being ordained into the ministry.  Does he have a church calling yet?

Callie, I think the young folks handle the unexpected better than we do.  Glad she made it safely to NYC and the arrangements could be shifted without additional cost.

Lloyd, I may not comment to everyone, as my postings are long enough as it is, but I assure you I read each post.  I hope you are feeling better today.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well Lloyd why didn't you get your flu shot?  Sound like that is what you have, aching all over, what I had wasn't the flu but some other bug which has been making the rounds.  At any rate I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Warm up is suppose to start today and get close to 80 degrees in the next couple of days.  And then the weekend, possible rain and more cold weather.

June, I am happy your weather is not going to get severe.  But do know your wouldn't mind some gentle rain.

We are thinking about have our master bathroom remodeled with a walk in shower, get rid of the tub, going to call and get a price, but know it will just upset me.......they always want more than I think it is worth.  Got an expense of new air conditioning this spring so don't know if I can afford both.  And wife wants new commode and floor in the bathroom......

Got to get busy, so see you kids later.

Good morning, Larry.  I don't think any church I've belonged to ever exceeded its budget and ended up in the black.

halkel--Good morning.  I wish you good luck getting estimates to renovate that bathroom.  It seems major work like that is always extremely costly.  Your a/c isn't working?

Good morning

I know I am late.slept in till 6:30 which was so nice!!

Delivered a quilt and while in town I picked up a few groceries, PB was on sale for $2.88 and I needed some tilapia. On my way home I stopped and washed my vehicle.

I have a feeling I shall be waltzing with the snow blower later or in the morning as it is snowing now.

Lloyd, hope both you and Nancy feel better........now share your love for each other ...not your germs!! :))

Hal, we are used to doing all our own work but now I am sure we too would have to hire in and yes the cost would likely scare us. We do  have a set of kitchen taps to go in but with hubby's help I can do that. The year he got his RA he wanted a taller commode and said we would hire someone. I said no.....he would teach me and that is what he did I put it in and had no leaks around the bottom :)

Joan thank you for breakfast, no idea of what it is but game to try  it.

Still snowing here..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Merry Monday,

Just returned from a quick errand.  Temperature isn't too bad but the wind blowing across the left-over snow was really cold.

I caught Emily on Facebook last night and messaged "First impression of NYC?".  She replied,  "Too many buildings!"  They were planning to go to the 9-ll Memorial today.

Busy week ahead so I must Be Efficient today.  Hope I remember how to do that.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.   Hope those who are ailing feel better.

Good Morning Everyone,  from the clear
and very cold,  rocky coast of Maine.    I am looking forward to it warming up a bit in the next couple of days.

I am just getting over a head cold that this time seemed to affect my ears...  which made me very nervous.   Since I have limited vision,  my hearing is very important to me.  And having my ears blocked up gave me the Willies...

But it seems like the ears are back to working well and the
congestion seems to be gone.     Phew..  I am glad that that is over with..

Otherwise all is well..
Wishing that everyone has a good day..

Ok!  The chili is in the crockpot and it'll be ready for supper later.  I'll put some in the hidey hole for anyone who wants some.  If there is something you don't like or can't eat, it's not in there.  If there's something you like that most people don't put in chili, it's in there.  Enjoy!

Callie--I agree with Miss Emily--too many buildings.  When we lived in Central NY, I enjoyed an occasional trip to NYC, but I sure wouldn't want to live there.

Sandy--Sorry about the cold and the blocked up ears.

Janie--I'll check the "hidey hole" about supper time.  I am sure your chili will be just perfect.  Thank you.

Good Morning all from a cloudy wet Hemet. We had a nice rain, and I am hoping for more.

Lloyd, I am so sorry you and your wife have been so ill. God is surely giving you a time to rest that body that you often push too far above it's ability to work so hard. There is a reason for everything, so we have to rest in what God hands us. Right ?

Had a nice picture from McCall, Ida. of two of my great grand children walking in a path of VERY deep snow with five young reindeer following them like puppy dogs. I could not believe my eyes.

I am waiting for my grocery delivery, plus a chat with the head Nurse downstairs to confirm my plans of pill taking. I am up to sixteen pills and one nitro patch now, and a pain pill on request. I really need a "menu" of sorts. whew !!!!!!

My Stanton temperature calls for a high of 64 degrees today. I don't know what it is now, but I have my furnace on low. Found it..53 degrees at the present time.

Larry, thank you for your kind words. Ryan has been Youth Pastor for his Church in Ida. Now he has studied to be a Sr. Pastor. I was raised in the Episcopal Church and my kids are Baptists, so I am not familiar with how things work there. God is in Charge, of that I am certain, no matter what denomination we choose as our own. I feel I am a born and bred Episcopalian, but I now attend Chapel on the grounds here at Rowntree and am very comfortable with the Quaker folks that speak to us each Sunday.

Hal, we only have walk in showers here, and it is adequate. I still miss sinking down in a tub full of nice hot water, but getting up out of said tub got to be a near impossibility...so we adjust. After a time we are forced to renew that which is old so go ahead and spend, and be thankful you can. Getting several estimates is always wise, as long as they all come from reliable businesses.

Bis, I think most Churches run on Faith more than finances.  I would frown at a very wealthy Church building, it seems to be the opposite of what Christ started. I do not believe a Pastor should have to strive to make a living...his living should be equal to his ability to assist his people to a loving community, a community that wants their Church to exist.

Amy, you are young enough and strong enough to handle heavy machinery and objects...I am so happy for you and your abilities. My 92 year old body would not be able to move a commode two inches. My Mom, in her middle years could do most anything too, she even wired electric lamps and irons, plus all the gardening and canning and milking our one cow. Never hired an outside person to do what needed done. She was even our doctor. It was hard to see her needing our help when when reached the late eighties, but the body does age, like anything else in this life.

Sandy, I have trouble with ear blockage all the time. It seems I can hear my own voice as an echo. I learned that lying on my back with my head over the edge of the bed does clear it for a while but it is not a cure. It was something my husbands Dr. recommended for his tintinitis.

Janie, I had chili for supper last night, but it was not the same as the way I used to make it, but beggars cannot be choosers . I am sure your recipe would hit the spot !

The rain has stopped so I will go take a walk around our gardens and breathe some nice fresh air. See you later........

June--How nice to get pictures of your great grand in the snow with deer following.  That's sure different than CA.  If you need a pain pill, do you have to make a special call for it?  Enjoy your walk.

That's o.k.   Hal may want your cornbread.
Actually, I like to stir crumbled crackers and grated cheese into my bowl of chili - and, sometimes, catsup (ketchup?)
However, I don't like beans in mine so appreciate you leaving them out of my portion, Jane.  :)

Just had a nice experience with an AT&T rep.  I called with a question about my bill - which she answered (my misinterpretation - not their fault).  Then she said she thought my bill was rather high for a house phone - checked things out - and made some adjustments that will save more than $6.00 on my future bills.

Bis,yes, I did have to call for my pain pill when I was in the hospital, and now that I am home I still do. As soon as I talk with our head nurse and get all these medications in an orderly fashion, I will have the pain medicine returned with them. In the meantime I have over the counter meds, like Tylenol, laxitives, and other normal things in my own possession. When I run out of prescripts..or before I run out...I take order down stairs, they get it filled and return it to me, so they are always aware of what I am taking or not taking. I could continue having them do it for me, but I feel it is good brain exercise to keep some responsibilities to myself.

I like cornbread or crackers with my chili and beans and always with grated cheese, and fresh chopped onions. To me that is a complete meal in a bowl.

The sun is breaking through off and on and drying things up. I had a nice walk around the gardens..they are a little dreary right now as the roses...Hundreds of them...had to have their yearly pruning, what how glorious it will look after their winters face lift. There are some purple iris and white lillies in blume, and huge Sterlitzia Regina (wrong spelling) more commonly know at Bird of Paradise bushes..huge..i full bloom. Many of our trees are loosing their leaves and the cedar are shedding needles and cones, but looking very regal and "in charge" of everything less tall than themselves.

I will be glad when my groceries arrive..in the meantime I will keep annoying you with my wordiness...blah..blah...blah.....

My Mom used to say " whistling girls and a crowing hen, always come to a bad end.

Not much going on in the Interior other than we are warming up again. And now that Farrah has her treats back, she is back to ignoring me and jumping hither and yon in multiple chases and or ambush of imaginary demons.

I'll take chili with or without beans with onions and sometimes over rice. But it has to be steaming!

June--Now you are NOT annoying us while you wait for your groceries.  I love hearing from you.  Thanks for explaining how meds are handled there.

Jeanne Lee--So you eat just the crackers, cornbread and cheese if someone serves you chili?:)

Angelface--I never thought of having chili over rice.  That's an idea.

Gloria called about half an hour ago.  Her computer won't even boot up.  She called HP and they told her to run the recovery disk, but it still wouldn't boot.  Supposedly they are going to send her a flash drive to run??  She sure had had trouble with that computer.

I dice potatoes into the chili while it's cooking but if you don't like that, there are none in your portion in the hidey hole.

JeanneLee, just eat Callie's cornbread with the crackers and cheese.  Sounds a little dry to me but maybe you could have some chicken noodle soup with it.

Jeanne Lee, the first time I had chili was back in Mn. when my Dad served us some Hormel's canned chili. I hated that hot flavor. We ate LOTS of boiled and baked beans tho. Inexpensive and nourishing. I still like beans in any form, but Ca. is definitely Chili country.

My poor Gloria, she must be ready to throw that computer out the window. It has been nothing but trouble since she got it.

I worked on my laptop a bit yesterday, but Gary still has to install a lot of my normal programs. It was a God send in the care facility though. Just being able to contact all of you made life enjoyable.

Patricia, in reading your reports of Farrah, she has taken over as Queen of your household. Quite a contrast to that poor little thing you adopted and wanted to stay hidden under the bed. Too bad she couldn't talk and tell you of her of her former life.

Bis, I just had another delivery of meds. This time it was two HUGE saline tablets that must be swallowed plus a chewable vitamin C that is "huger" than the saline, but so tough I have to let it melt in my mouth. But I am thankful at how all this "stuff" is making me feel human again.

Had a call from Chris, my grocery delivery person. He is sorry to report he will be running an hour late. Traffic is really a mess, so it is not his fault. I will have a renewed exercise in patience.

Yep, Hal does like his corn bread with chili or about anything else  Chili dogs are a treat, with lots of onions, cheese and steaming hot.  I like chili with or without beans.  I also like crackers smashed up and placed in the chili also like cornbread and milk.  But here lately the cornbread in the milk has been hitting a tender spot in my throat and boy it doesn't want to let go and I go into a coughing spasm I have never experienced before.

Got to go.

Food For Thought

Living For the King in 2017
(By Phyllis Eyerkuss)

I heard a message this weekend entitled “What Did You Give Jesus For Christmas?” A good question. How would we answer? Did we include Him in our shopping sprees and holiday parties? Did we remember the blessing of His birth as we gathered around our Christmas dinner? Was His Name mentioned as we tore through gifts? Or was the Christmas story just an afterthought as we careened through the hectic weeks of December?

"Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His Holy Name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefitsâ€"" (Psalm 103:1-2 NIV)

In these verses David commands his soul to praise His God! He puts aside his kingly responsibilities, the concerns of his family, and the demands of his people to worship and praise Jehovah! Perhaps we should follow suit! As the world spirals out of control, we must stay grounded and focused on our King! We cannot be carried away with the things of the world, or caught up in its clutches of materialism and greed. Yes, we must be in the world, but we must not be of it!

I pray in this coming week we would all prayerfully consider the coming New Year! Considering that Jesus could return any day now, we should be more focused on being God’s hands and feet in the earth in 2017! Our Spiritual priorities should be much higher than our earthly aspirations! By focusing our “inmost being” on His Holy Name, we won’t lose sight of our primary mission of sharing the message of reconciliation between God and man (as 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 puts it). Once we remember that our God will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19), fear, anxiety and stress should be minimized! And when we can calm our soul with The Word, then worship comes quickly and ministry usually follows: a secret satan does NOT want you to know! Because IF he can keep us bound with earthly concerns, then the concerns of The Kingdom take second place. And I don’t know about you, BUT I don’t want to be caught off guard when that trumpet blasts!!!

I want to be found faithful and embracing all of the benefits of The Kingdom of God available in Christ! I don’t want to remember a manger once a year, or a Cross only on Easter. I don’t want to compromise the Truth of God’s Word with worldly traditions or thought, but I want the wonder and majesty of Jesus Christ to reign in my heart 365 days a year! I want to let The Holy Spirit consume me with His Presence and Power! I want to appropriate every drop of Blood that was spilled at Calvary and embrace the grace that was purchased there! I am a child of God and I belong to Him! And one day He will take me HOME for Eternity and I will live in His Presence forever! Beam me up Lord! And until that Day, may I live for You!

Thought of the Day

Look ahead with expectation and joy. Our King & Friend walks with us this new year.

Good morning
I just knew there would be a date with the snow blower this week and when the world has woke up some I will dance with the snow blower. At least it is much warmer out now at 16°F but the weather guessers are calling for more snow today and on Thur we are to get rain!!Really don't want the rain as we have a trip to the city on Fri for hubby's chemo.

Not a lot on the agenda today ,hope to get in some sewing later.

Gloria must be miffed at that darn computer, I still think the company needs to give her a new one and not a lemon like this one.

Larry, how does your wife like her new Featherweight machine?

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and Amy.

AMY, if I were GLORIA I certainly wouldn't stop at being "miffed".  I'd be FURIOUS!  And I think I'd have been in touch with the Better Business Bureau if one still exists.  Our local TV station has a team that investigates things like this and I have a feeling they'd have gotten her a new computer by this time.

I'll be off to Wally World to meet and greet with my public today.  This is one of those days that I wish I didn't have to go.

JOANIE, thanks for all the goodies.  I liked the inspirational reading and the computer solution sounds like me.

I wish you all a lovely day full of whatever you wish.

Amy and Janie--I agree with you about Gloria's computer.  Long before this I would have had the TV investigator in on her problem.

Hi everyone.  It is currently 28 degrees but with the expectation of the mid-40's this afternoon.  We have a pretty busy day planned as Pat has a doctor's appointment at 10:15.  After that we plan on stopping at COSTCO so she can ordered new glasses, I can get mine adjusted and to pick up a few items as well as fill the gas tank for the car.  We also need to go to Walmart to pick up prescriptions for Pat.  Later this afternoon or early evening we plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.

I didn't make it through all of the college football championship last evening but only the first half.  It looked like Alabama would win so was quite surprised when I looked at the score this morning and saw that our Clemson team had won.  It is a great honor for a South Carolina school.

Hal, having a walk-in shower is certainly a lot safer.  We don't have a tub in our master bathroom but there are tubs in the other two bathrooms in this house.  They get no use from Pat or me and never will.  I have a good friend whose master bath shower's floor is one you could wheel a bath chair into as there is on step over.  It has a slight slopping floor to the drain in the shower so the water doesn't get into the rest of the room.  It does sound like it could be an expensive spring for you.

Amy, you remind me of one of the two last housekeepers we had who could do anything, including plumbing.

Sandy, I don't think you had mentioned that you were fighting a cold.  Glad you are in the last stages of it and that your ears are back to clear hearing.

June, that must be a very sweet picture of your great grandchildren and the reindeer.  I hadn't put together the ordination of your grandson as being Ryan.  I thought maybe it was another grandson. Being a minister is a very difficult job and most of us see only a fraction of what they do. I sure don't envy you in trying to keep track of 16 medications plus.  I would certainly have to get medicine boxes with much bigger boxes for each day.

Callie, always a good thing to save some money on telephone or cable bills.

Joan, I had hoped that Gloria's computer problems were over but see that is not the case.

JaneS, I don't think I have ever had potatoes in my chili. I like mine with beans and always put some ketchup in it.  We usually put some cheese on it and a little dab of sour cream.

Amy, my wife loves her Featherweight machine.  She has done a little sewing on it.  She has set it up downstairs in the sunroom area so can use it anytime she wants without having to go to her sewing room.  When our son was wrapping it for Christmas he accidentally turned it upside down and apparently it bent the spool holder a little which concerned her.  However, he took it and straightened it and she doesn't think it will be a problem.  It sure is a quiet machine.

If you haven't seen this I think you may find it very interesting:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h60r2HPsiuM

Good morning, Larry.  I'd say you have a very busy day ahead.  Gloria sure has more patience than I do.  I would have gotten  the TV investigator on the case long ago.  Thanks for the link.  Math was never one of my strong points.

Lloyd--Good morning.  That's pretty warm for up there.  It is only 63° at my house.

Good morning from Florida on this sunny but briskly cool day! I came home from bocce about 30 min. ago. It was 50 when we started our game but has gone up to 60. My team won our game by 3 points.

Joan - Was it a little warmer than yesterday down there this morning?

Lloyd - I've often wondered if late night posts are seen as that's when I usually post mine. One of the problems of being a night owl!  :) I always read your posts but I can't get into the habit of posting daily. I don't get up early and am frequently "on the run" when I do get up. Plus, I'm not much of a communicator before I have my coffee. I have a mug given to me by a friend from Maryland. It says, "Crabby till I have my Coffee".  ;) I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Gloria - Hope you are able to get that computer running again. I agree with what several other people have said. Enough is enough!

Jane S. - I love chili but I want mine with lots of beans and a little on the soupy side. Always have mine with cornbread. I break up some of it into the bowl of chili. Yummy!

Amy - My husband is like you.........insists on doing most things himself rather than hiring someone. He always has! I've been "delicately" trying to tell him that some things are better hired out at his age.

June - I always enjoy reading your posts.

Larry - One of my bocce friends is from Alabama and she was disappointed in the game!

Hal - Last summer we had our A/C and furnace replaced and then our dishwasher broke down, (love my new one!). Plus some expensive and necessary dental work for both of us. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.   ::)

Sandy - I hope your ear problem was temporary. I have both impaired vision and hearing and it's not fun! Fortunately it doesn't all happen at once so gives you time to adjust.

Time to decide what to make for tonight's pot luck.

Beverly, I always read all of the posts, whether posted at night or during the day and I usually read the night ones the next morning - when I am not awake enough to talk/post to anyone.
By the time I'm really awake, the posts are out of sight.  I usually feel I don't have that much to contribute anyway, but I like to get my 2c worth in occasionally.

Beverly--Yes, it was a bit warmer this morning, and they say temps will continue to go up all week.  As you know, both my daughter and son and their families live in Alabama and they were not a bit happy about the outcome of last night's game.

Mary Ann--I always enjoy your posts.

It seems very quiet in here today, or I have come in on the wrong page..which would not surprise me. My mind is very foggy early in the day.....who am I kidding....foggy MOST of the day is more like it. In any case, I have to get myself down to the clinic for a bandage change, but first, the bed needs to be made. I need to wash my face, and dress, and gather the essentials I may need in case Claudia has time to chat ove prescriptions.....see y'all later. June

I'm home from work and customers told me that we would be getting anywhere from a micro measurement of an inch of snow to a foot.  We got a dusting.  But we are due for some freezing rain later and then just plain rain after that.  I'm in for the the day!  I have no plans to go anywhere and my care is under cover.  I'm inside, warm and cozy.

I like to hear from EVERYfriend on this site.  Please don't anyone refrain from posting because you think what you have to say is not interesting.  If you do that, I'll have to stop posting entirely because there's nothing exciting in my life.  And by darn, that's the way I want it these days.  The most exciting thing I do now-a-days is to get out of bed in the morning.  And some mornings I feel like shouting "HOORAY! ANOTHER DAY!

Some days when I wake at 5 or 6 am, I argue with myself as to whether I get up so I can go back to bed in an hour or so, or do I lie in bed, trying to go back to sleep until 8 or 8:30 am.  Either way wins occasionally.  One reason I like to stay in bed is that it is warm in bed.  It's warm in the house too, but not as cozy!

We are having rain and it is 43 degrees out.  Tom was nice to get the mail when he was out anyway, so I didn't have to brave the elements.  It is not raining hard, just that it's a cold wet rain, not like the summer warm rains.

Good Afternoon,

It's "shirt-sleeve" temperature in central Oklahoma!  Unbelievable that just a few days ago, the temperature was in the single digits.

I did all my errands this morning except go to the grocery store.  Decided to go a little after 1:00 p.m. because that's usually a good time.  WRONG!!!!!   The checker said it had been that crowded ever since she got there at 6:00 a.m.

(Janie, if your lines were like that today,  I'll bet the couch is shouting ZZZZZZ at you!)

Whyizit that, when older couples are grocery shopping, most of the husbands have to pick up, inspect and discuss every single item?  She's probably been buying the groceries on her own for 50 years - what's to discuss????

I do understand why so many people were there.  Probably restocking after our snow last weekend.
And now, the weather gurus can't decide if the OKC area is going to have flooding rain or a treacherous ice storm from Friday afternoon - or maybe Friday morning - or maybe even Thursday night.....until Sunday...or maybe Monday.....

Not unusual for the far northwestern part of the state to have freezing conditions and the far southeastern third to have severe thunderstorms.  We in the middle can have either, both or neither.

Now I need to prepare for a two-meeting day tomorrow.  Forgot to type up the minutes of the December church Circle meeting so that's first on the To-Do list.

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Whoever it was that said the "couch zzzs would be hollering at me was right.  They even came and got me!  Boring is worse than busy at the store.  I was on a register with no one near me for an hour and I think I had a grand total of 8 customers.  Then someone was assigned to the register behind me and it got even deader.  Then someone was assigned to the register behind her and we had some very nice, very long conversations while waiting for customers.  Then I came home and left them to the boredom.

Patricia, what a coincidence!  I don't think any of them are like mine and mine isn't like it was the last time I made it.  It's never the same twice.  That's how I got my picky eater kid to try new things.  She'd say, "I didn't like that the last time we had it."  And I'd tell her, "We never had this before."  She'd have to take the prerequisite 3 bites and sometimes she liked this version.

I'm going eat the chili for supper again tonight.  You all didn't eat enough of it last night and I have lots of leftovers.  Of course, I don't really mind because it was gooooood!

It isn't raining yet.  I let the dogs out and they came in dry!  That's OK.  I don't care if it hold off until after we go to bed.

I hope Everyfriend is staying warm and cosy and enjoying the day.

Amy..I like your statement of agreeing with your own thoughts. It certainly makes life more pleasant doesn't it. Enjoy doing the sewing you love to do on a blustery winter day...the way to go girl !

Janie, we are all in agreement with one another today. I am lost when I cannot be with you all here, reading your plans and thoughts, and finding how similar our aims are. It is a treat.

Bis. I thought the same when Amy wrote of her husband blowing snow..how encouraging to find he is feeling that much better. It makes me so happy for both of them.

Mary Ann, you sound like me about staying in bed for another hour or so. The medicine girl brought in my thyroid pill early...it has to be done on an empty stomach, and when she left, I snuggled back under the comforter and snoozed till she came back with the next dose of meds. What a life. I feel like a queen with all the attention we get. I am hoping to get back to doing my own medicating though. I need that responsibility so my brain does not decay entirely. Our head nurse is so busy, and I have to talk with here...hopefully will see her Thursday so I can resume medicating myself.

We too are having a nice rainy day..gentle rains off and on which makes Home that much more cozy.

Where are Hall and LLoyd today ? I saw Larry earlier, but are our men giving up on us?  C'mon Guys ! look alive and give us your in-put on what is happening in your part of our wonderful country.

Callie, when we moved back to Ca. from Chicago with three little children under seven years of age, we rented a place in No. Long Beach...no store in the area just house after house after house. So Ed took over the marketing on his way home from work. He like it so well, he continued to be the "buyer" all the rest of our 62 years of married life, with the exception of the last year or so when his mind deteriorated.

Sandy, we are all in the same boat in our life styles so don't give up the ship. Dip in your oars and keep us interested in what your day is about.

Patricia, I assume you really enjoy your cooking....good for you. Those days are past for me. I went downstairs for lunch today. Main course for me was a stuffed baked potato...I ate every bit of it, except the skin. It was loaded with melting cheddar cheese, bacon, and various veggies, topped with sour cream and chives.Oooh....so Good.

Mary Ann--Wish when I wake up at 3 or 3:30 a.m. I could roll over and go back to sleep.  But instead I have to get up and use my nebulizer so I can breathe.

Callie--Seems that when "storm" is mentioned folks panic and flock to the grocery store.

Vanilla-Jackie--I always enjoy your posts.

Janie--I am sure when you aren't busy the time drags.

angelface--Thanks for the link.  There's certainly lots of variations of chili.

June--Ray sometimes did the grocery shopping when I had something.  It took him 100 forevers, but that was fine with me--I didn't have to do it.

June,  I didn't mean husbands doing the grocery shopping by themselves.  They usually look very efficient, although it's pretty easy to spot one who's just learning how.  I meant couples doing so together.

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of January 8
Post by: angelface555 on January 10, 2017, 07:33:10 PM
I have always done the grocery shopping. At first, it was because neither of my two husbands had a clue. They would come home with several bags of chips and dips and lots of sausages and that sort. But no milk, dairy or toilet paper. It wasn't that they were trying to get out of anything which I thought at first. They literally hadn't a clue and their mamas brought them up that way. I know there are men who cook and clean, mine weren' like that, probably were not aware it was possible in males.

Then I had a child who only liked food that wasn't green and had lots of sugar and salt involved.

And finally, in my old age, my body lets me know regularly and swiftly what is and isn't going to stick around. That has been an entire learning process in itself.

I shop and eat for the dogs.  I told the vet several years ago what moochers they are and she said, "just remember, if it isn't good for you it isn't good for them."  So whatever I eat can be shared and that means it's usually good for me.  If I have something that I can't share, I have their treats handy and that's what they get.

We still haven't got the freezing rain that was promised.  I hope it doesn't come right when I have to go to work tomorrow.  We are actually supposed to have a warming trend this weekend...if the weatherguessers haven't changed that.

Stay cozy, Everyfriend!

Our monthly pot-luck was good and of course lots of good conversation, too. The dessert table was sparse but lots of good main dishes, etc. The men all like desserts so they disappear in a hurry. One month we had loads of desserts and very few casseroles. One of my friends and I came to the rescue by going to Subway and getting several subs we could cut up into serving pieces. They also give out the prizes for best golf games and our foursome won 2nd place. We each got a whopping $3. Each couple puts in $2 when we play so we made a profit of $4.  :) Each month we play with a different couple (or twosome) at a designated course. There are so many courses here that we get to play at a different one each month. There's also a Po-ke-no game after dinner for those who want to play.

Callie - Chape seldom goes with me but when he does I send him to the produce dept. for fruit and other specific items.  :) Actually, he's a very good shopper but sometimes he comes home with things I wouldn't buy.

It's 62 outside at 9:30 p.m. Tomorrow should be a good day.

I don't know when I started doing the shopping.  I think it was after I started working and driving.  And I did it until a couple of years ago when I found it difficult to walk around the store pushing a shopping cart.  So Tom does the shopping and he has no schedule.  I find us without much to eat after a week or so.  Tom meets friends for lunch occasionally so he does not have to worry about the refrigerator being bare!  I always had something to eat but he doesn't shop like I did.  I had a list, but I also am an impulse buyer.  I am sure I bought more produce than he does because I like the produce bags to line my wastebasket in the bathroom and I never have any produce bags to use.  I want to say that Tom does a good job of getting what I have on the grocery list and he knows which brands I like.  He would prefer to shop at Meijer, our main supermarket here, but I prefer Family Fare because I got started there and it was/is not as busy as Meijer.  Also it isn't as large.  But Tom goes to Family Fare because he knows I prefer that store and their brands.  Both Meijer and Family Fare at local supermarkets with stores in other cities and states now.

We've had a lot of rain tonight and I'm glad we are not getting as much as California is.

Well here I am finally, I was in early this morning and started to post and somehow got interrupted and never got back.

Larry like you I watched the first half and a little of second half and said Alabama had it in the bag and then find out that they lost in last second of the game.  Bummer.  But it was a good game, what I saw of it.

Larry I also went to my income tax site and started my taxes.  I had to stop when I was almost through with the mandatory interview and they wanted some of the wifes drivers license information.  I use OLT, have for the past several years.

June, we will be getting some of your weather here in Texas in the next day or so, that is where our rain is coming from.  Funny weather pattern, from you area South then it turns to the East.

Janie, hope you don't get the freezing rain.  Hate that stuff.

Amy, good to hear DH feels like doing some manual labor, just hope he doesn't overdo it.

I am off to bed.  Tired.

CHUCKLES

Horseback Riding

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons or prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted, and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blond begins to slide from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the horse's side anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly oblivious of its slipping rider.

Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blond attempts to leap away from the horse and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup, she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over.

As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune Frank, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her dilemma and unplugs the horse. And you thought all they did was say Hello.

Food For Thought

. . . in a Faraway Palace
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Esther 1:1-12

King Xerxes . . . gave a banquet for all his nobles and officials.
Esther 1:2-3
Life in a Persian palace was difficult to imagine for ordinary people, especially when the king showed off his wealth and splendor and entertained ¬nobles and officials with the best food and drink his kingdom could offer. Whether you lived in the suburbs of Susa or at the border of the empire, the palace was a faraway place. And what happened in the palace stayed in the palaceâ€"usually.
Like any grand king, Xerxes spoiled his guests. For 180 days he showed off the splendor of his kingdom, and then he gave a weeklong banquetâ€"at which his guests could choose their own wine and drink as much as they pleased.
On the last day of the feast, Xerxes demanded that his queen, Vashti, parade her beauty before this besotted crowd. Her refusal and its conse¬quences did not stay in the palace; this would affect all who lived outside, even those who might have thought they lived beyond the king’s reach.
“A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion” (Proverbs 20:2). Vashti lost her royal posi-tion, and the results would threaten even God’s people.
But it is also true that a king’s “favor is like dew on the grass” (Proverbs 19:12). As we will see in Esther’s story, a young Jewish woman will win the king’s favor, and she will use her position to save her people.
Let us seek the favor of God our King, that we may enjoy the bounty of his kingdom.
Thank you, Lord, that because of Jesus, we may enjoy your favor forever. Amen.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning and, hopefully, have a little energy to pick up a few things after work.  If I don't, I'll be going back for the shopping tomorrow.

We now have 6+ inches of heavy snow. The sound of the wind woke me up along with the pup laying across me with her bony elbows! Hubby said he will do the snow blowing today  so we shall see how he fares out after that. Said he feels a bit better after he has done some work as long as he doesn't over do it.
I am going to go and do some hand shoveling to help out.

Jane, Jackie, good morning

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

I am another one who doesn't post too often because what I have to say doesn't seem of interest.....not even to me.  ::)  But, I read all of the posts everyday and am always interested in what each of you write.

It rained sometime during the night and I was surprised at how much of the ice and snow disappeared overnight.  David went to the grocery store yesterday and told me that the main streets are all clear of icy patches so I think we just might be able to get out for his delayed birthday dinner this evening.  It will be nice to finally get out for awhile.  My house has been comfortably warm and cozy during this latest storm but the walls are beginning to get a little close in for me.

Okay, Joan, you woke me up with the galloping horse, I wasn't expecting that.  Watch out for those blonds today, Janie!

Amy, I still don't have my snow blower out of the shed but we are only predicted ice, ice & more ice for the next few days.  I'm off to get my "what-if" supplies today while it's in the 60s, bottom drops out tonight.

I thought yesterday was the last day for painting but a few more hours today.  Gr-daughter has a hair appointment before going back to work, so I will time my errands with hers to make it work.  I was trying to remember how old the older baby was when she went through the surgery and radiation for her thyroid, she is cramming everything in that she can.  My laundry & clean floors can wait, hopefully "ice" doesn't mean power out, may try to get a few loads wash & dried "just in case".

This isn't getting the job done, must go feed some hungry cats & let them run today, they will shake their feet and not go out tomorrow!  Tom & Tiger stop at the door to feel how cold it is & shake both front feet before darting out.  Guess it gets the blood circulating since they don't wear fur lined UGGs.

Good morning to everyone, make the best of your day, they don't seem to have 24 hours anymore... like a pound of coffee isn't 16 ounces, my days are shrinking.

Oops, nice to see you, Phyllis.  Looks like my birthday will be iced over this year, but I try to convince my tribe to wait & celebrate with my daughter's which is 10 days later.  Happy BD to David.

Hi everyone.  I started my day with the temperature outside of 54 degrees and it is overcast this morning with very little chance of rain today.  Yesterday was a full day that left both of us worn out.  As usual the doctor's appointment took well over an hour, most of the time waiting.  She then had to go fairly close by and have a couple of x-rays done on her back and hip.  By this time it was after lunch and we decided to have our big meal at Cracker Barrel, which was close to where the x-ray was taken.  We had a good meal and then on the way home stopped at COSTCO.  I had my glasses adjusted and Pat started to pick out new frames.  I then started doing the list shopping.  Fortunately I had been able to get an electric cart to use and that really helped.  However, Pat decided she was too tired and her back hurt too bad to make a decision on the new frames so waited for me in the food court area while I finished the shopping.  It was around 3 pm when we got home and we both took naps but were still tired.  I went to bed early and had a good nights sleep and she did also.

Today has much less strenuous schedule.  Pat has an appointment at 9:30 to get her hair cut and then at 4 pm an appointment with the Chiropractor.  At 5:30 I will meet Scott and Jennifer at the Church for our Wednesday night dinner and then they will come out to the house for awhile.

Beverly, I always scroll back on the postings to where I last posted so that I don't miss reading anyone's postings even though I may not comment on them.  I try over a matter of a few days to say something to each poster and if I have missed anyone over a period of time I assure that it is oversight and not intentional as I appreciate each and every person who posts.

JaneS, that is quite a variance of expected snow yesterday.  I hope it stayed as snow and not freezing rain and see that you are OK this morning. .  I agree with you that lack of work is much harder than being busy at a job.  I wonder why it was so slow.

Callie, I have always done some grocery shopping but now with cell phones if I have any questions I just call Pat and ask her.  With Pat's back situation I have basically been doing all of the grocery shopping except when she puts in the order at Walmart online and then I just go and pick it up.  I don't envy you having two meetings in one day.

Jackie, I find your books interesting. Keep up the good work.

I have run out of time before I have finished reading the posting so will come back to it later this morning and post any additional comments then.

Well between hubby and I we did get the drive way clean, then I went out back and did a trail for the dogs and to the wood pile..there was water under the snow making it very difficult to snow blow through. After lunch I will go get a load of wood just to have ready when the wood box gets low. Rather do it today when it is nice than tomorrow in the rain....not that I am made out of sugar.. :2funny:

Phyllis--I know you will be glad to get out.  Enjoy celebrating David's birthday.

Shirley--Painting is a job I REALLY dislike.

Larry--You sure had a busy day yesterday.  Enjoy your time with Scott and Jennifer at the church dinner and then later at your home.

Amy--You w--- so hard.  How about a nap this afternoon?

Vanilla-Jackie--I always like a good book sale.

halkel--Hi and goodbye.

I was out much longer than I wanted to be this morning.  The biggest wait was a mix up in one of my prescriptions.

I'm home and I'm tired.  The drive to work was uneventful.  Kelly Township (where I live) is very efficient in bad weather.  They had all the roads cindered so they weren't slippery at all.  And WM has a service that takes care of the parking lot so that was already salted and melting when I got there.  And by the time I was ready to come home, the temp was above freezing, the sun was shining and all the ice that was exposed to sun was melting.

My daughter texted me 5 times this morning urging me to call off but I knew people from much farther away would be calling off and I felt safe to go so I allayed all her fears and reported my safe arrival so she wouldn't have to worry.

Now I'm going to see if there are any zzzzs left anywhere in this house and find out if they want to get into my brain for a bit.

Phyllis, enjoy your dinner with David and wish him Happy Birthday from me.  Have something good to eat and tell us about it.

Good Morning all, I am running late as I had a slow starter this morning. I am getting back into the habit of massage and exercise of legs and arms and feet in the early a.m. and that eats up about 30 or more minutes of the day. Then I had to dress and scoot down for a bandage change on the leg. Thing are Looking Good, and I am so thankful, it must be two or more months since this first started, and because of my bad arteries, I am truly lucky to be beating it.

Callie, I think my husband was unique in being the "shopper" in our domain. And of course he was "de boss" in all areas, and excelled in what he did. He worked for the government for most of his adult life, buying material of all sorts for the armed forces. Very strict. One of his guys told me that he was not always well liked, but always very respected. He lived by the rules. As to the grocery shopping, he was also a coupon clipper, and could have used an office for that alone.

We are having a mixed day weather-wise. Had some light rain in the early hours, now it is just stationary,no wind, no rain,no nothing. Like a dummy I missed Bible study this morning..can't seem to get back into my routine. I will go down to lunch at noon, and then I will probably come home and sleep some more.

Jackie, have you made a decision on the new dog yet ? I think he would be very happy living in your home.

Bis,I am still waiting for an appt. with the head nurse about my self-administering meds. The girl just brought in four more. I feel my body is more full of chemicals than it is of food. So I will soon trot down to the dining room and have the "real thing". I would have taken the meds down to take after, or with my lunch, but the girls have rules they are to stay with us till we swallow them all. I should not complain...they care for us very well.

June--Glad to hear the leg is looking good.  They sure take good care of you--making sure you get your meds in a timely manner.

Hello again. I did have a good lunch...pepperoni pizza, green salad, steamed carrots, and banana cream pie for dessert. Then home for a nice long nap. Wakened just now with a phone call from my beloved son Dan in Santa Cruz. He said they had a foot of rain in their mountains, but today was clear. More rain tomorrow.

Our sun is shining brightly now, so I will take myself out for a nice walk. keep well and happy my dear ones.

I did find some of the missing zzzs and I persuaded them to keep me company on the sofa.  When I woke up, I made dog food and then we all had supper.  I've been checking my email and answering some of it.

It has been a quiet day for the soda shoppe.

We did get some of the predicted rain and the temps moved into the 40s.  All the ice is gone and I'm still thinking about a visit with my sister this weekend.  I'm not planning it because every time I plan a trip to my sister's in Jan or Feb, it snows.  So I'm just thinking about it.On the off chance that I might decide to go, I've laid a few things out on the bed in the spare room.

Now I'm going to go watch some TV and share the chair with the doggies.

Have a lovely evening Everyfriend!

Lloyd, I hope you didn't over-do today. Six and half hours of bad weather is not what I would recommend when you have been in a sick bed recently. But you are evidently a stubborn old man, just as I am a stubborn old woman. It takes one to know one.

Amy and Janie, I pray you rest well this night along with all our other good friends here. I am about to close down too even though it is still early in Ca. I do want to check out a few more things on the computer, then it will be off to book and bed. Good night my dear ones, sleep well, and wake happy. God is watching over you. June

Not sure what weather to expect today, but it says rain, although the tv weather people are saying..." will we, or not, be seeing snow today, seems snow is forecast'ed for our area, we shall wait and see....if so, will be our first showing of snow this Winter....doubt it will be enough to do any damage...probably only a dusting...sure the rain will clear it away...

Good morning, JACKIE.

Not much new around here either.  We are having a lot of problems caused by the huge amounts of snow that we are getting in our mountains. Ski areas and roads being closed due to avalanches.  One county has 530% more than their average amount of snow.

Today we both had our eye examined.   All is well.  Bob will be getting new glasses, but I will continue to use my cheaters!  I am showing some signs of demacular degeneration.  The doctor seemed to be iffy if he thought the vitamins like Ocuvite actually help.  He said eating good green vegetables is the best.

It is late and I must get to bed.

Pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

In Every Blade of Grass

"Nature is a gift from God and every blade of grass is a sermon," a preacher told his summertime congregation.

The next day, the minister was mowing his lawn when a member of the church came along.

The parishioner stood and watched his pastor mow for a while. Then, nodding his head in approval, he said, "Way to go, Pastor, cut 'em short."

Food For Thought

"Need Washing.”
--Author Unknown

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Walmart.  She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence.

It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout.. We all stood there, under the awning, just inside the door of the Walmart. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day.

I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

Her little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in, 'Mom let's run through the rain.'

           She said. 'What?' Mom asked.

'Let's run through the rain!' She repeated.

'No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit,' Mom
replied.

This young child waited a minute and repeated: 'Mom, let's run through the rain..'

'We'll get soaked if we do,' Mom said.

'No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning,' the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.

'This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?'

'Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, ' If God can get us through this, He can get us through anything! ' '

The entire crowd stopped dead silent.. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain.. We all stood silently. No one left. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.

Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly.  Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

'Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If GOD lets us get wet, well maybe we just need washing,' Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They got soaked.

They were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did.
I ran. I got wet.  I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories...So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories every day.

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.

I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

Good Morning Joanie and Everyfriend who comes to join us today.  It's going to be a beautiful day today!  It's going to rain all day and wash my world.  I might even go out and "run in the rain".  I'm sure I'm one of those who "need washing" so I expect I'll get wet.

I'm not sure what I'm going to get into but I'm going to make a foray to WM to do a bit of "hunting and gathering".  If I get started in time, I'm going to begin collecting cards for all my family members who have birthdays between now and March 10.  That should keep me in the card aisle for a bit.

I might make a trip to the Amish store or I might wait and do that on Saturday if I decide not to travel.  I've been looking at the weather and next weekend actually looks better than this weekend.  I have to make a decision by Friday afternoon.  I feel kind of like a willow-the-wisp this week.

Enjoy your morning Everyfriend.

Good morning, Janie.  If you send me some rain, I will "run in the rain" with you.:)  I don't send as many cards as I used to, but I still go at the end of each month and buy all the cards I need for the next month.  I then come home and address them.  In the area where the stamp goes I write the date I need to mail each one.

JACKIE, it does sound like there is rain on the horizon for a lot of us today.  When I think that this might all be snow, I'm grateful for the rain.

I'm off to get dressed and get my day started.  Make it a good one.

Good Morning Everyone!

I am up and ready for bible study and a snack this morning.  I do envy those of you who are getting some rain.  Wish we could.  They say possible to get a scattering but no general rain.

June's rain is going to skirt us to the North and just possible for the "scattering".

Jackie, hope you find a nice soft place to get a nap today.

Janie, you are so organized and I am just the opposite it seems.

Hi everyone on a bit foggy morning but in the mid-50's.  For the second day in a row we are expecting 70 degrees this afternoon.  Not bad for mid-January.  I will be gone all morning with coffee and then going to the church to have some papers witnessed for the Living Will and related document after I drop my friend off for coffee.  I am preparing them for both South Carolina and Georgia since we live in South Carolina but the hospital and most of our doctors are across the river in Georgia. Then I will go back to the cafe for the rest of the hour for coffee and then take my friend back to his assisted living facility.  Then another trip downtown to the Church for the Wisdom group.  Finally on my way home I will stop at Aldi's for just a few items.  That will be it for today.  I shouldn't have to cook supper tonight as the we a rotisserie chicken and some leftovers in the refrigerator for dinner so can have a quiet afternoon and evening.

We had a good meal at the Wednesday night dinner at Church and then a very nice visit with Scott and Jennifer.  Jennifer was much more relaxed last evening than a week ago and is enjoying living with her dad.  We also see that Scott seems much happier so this seems to be a win all around.

Amy, do you do all of your home heating with wood?  I remember several years when growing up that we heated our small house with wood and one cast iron stove.  It sure put our good heat when you were close to it.

JaneS, nice of you to be so considerate of your co-workers who have a longer drive to work than you do.  Glad you experienced no problems with the roads.

June, glad to read that your leg wound is looking better.  We used to use coupons a lot but have gotten to the point that when we do want to use one we generally forget to present it, except for the dining out coupons.

Hal, I expect you are thought of this but be sure the commode is the taller of the handicapped ones.  My wife mentioned that we may have to replace one of ours that is designated handicapped but is the lower of the two handicapped heights.  We had the 17" one put in our other house and it was much better than the 15" ones in this house.  You all will enjoy your new bathroom.  Have you included grab bars in your new bathroom design?

Jackie, that is much too early to be up.  I hope you missed the snow and I see your morning posting about the heavy rain.  I hope you can stay in and dry today.

Jenny, it sounds like the ski areas are getting more than blessed with snow.  Maybe all of the snow will help the drought situation in your area.  Have you known about the macular degeneration before?  I hope you like green vegetables.

Joan, I thought about copying your humor for today and giving it to our pastor but then decided it might be taken the wrong way although would be a good humorous story for him to use in a sermon.  He always tries to get in a laugh or two while making his point.

Larry--Good morning. You have a busy morning....am sure you'll be content to stay home this afternoon.  It's GREAT that Jennifer's coming to live with Scott is working out so well.

A good late morning to you, Joan, and all the other friends.

It is supposed to be up in the 60's here in my little corner of the world.  Kind of cloudy, tho, and looks a little windy.  I have no plans to go anywhere, but it still is nice to think it is a lot warmer than it has been.

My son came last evening and brought dinner with him.  Which was a nice treat.  Before he left, he went down and got my mail for me.  A while after he left, he called me and said he had forgotten to give me back my keys.

So, since he has to go right by my place on his way to work, he said he would drop them off. I told him I would go down to the door, and he could just stop for a minute and give them back.  He said it would be a little bit before 7 a.m.  So, I was up a little after 6, got myself dressed and went downstairs about 6:45.  He didn't get here until almost 7:30, so I had taken a magazine to look at while I waited.  Since I was up so early, when I got back to my place,  I had a nice nap in my recliner and didn't wake up until almost 10. So, I have just had a little breakfast and need to get back to what I have been doing all week.

I am slowing getting rid of a lot of things that  I don't use anymore.  Got another big load for my son to take to the thrift store on Sat.
Some clothes and several boxes of fabric and craft supplies.

Today, I want to clean my stove and replace the 4 drip pans for the rusted out ones.   I had ordered them from Amazon and they came yesterday. So, I will have a nice, almost new looking stove.  They do a yearly inspection at my place just to check and make sure everything works ok and that will be next Tuesday.  Everything will be back in place by then.  Just need to do a little bit of dusty and run the vacuum.  Joan, I guess I will be getting some demerits as I am sure you will consider all that "work".  Unfortunately, it has to be done once in a while.  LOL

Hope everyone has a good day.

Joy

Good morning from bright and sunny Florida. Wish I could send some sunshine to all of you with snow, cold and rain.

Joan - I love the the story about "running through the rain".

Jenny - I started taking Preservision years ago for macular degeneration to slow the progression.  I was told the best green vegetable to eat is spinach.  Also be sure to wear sunglasses outside.

Jackie - You're right that wet MD is the most serious, but the dry also impairs your vision. Plus, dry can to turn to wet.  I have very poor vision in my left eye and the MD has also moved to the right one.

Hal - You will enjoy the new bathroom!

Larry - We installed the 17" ones in both bathrooms. I would like to have grab bars installed in the shower.

Lots to do today so I'd better get busy...........Have a good day everyone.

Good Afternoon Everyone from the overcast but warmer rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here, except I was up much of the night
back and forth to the John....  guess I ate somethinging that I shouldn't.      Sure does take a lot out of me,  and I do miss having a good nights sleep.

Next week I start the process of replacing the dentures that I lost a few months ago.   I have decided that I must do this,  if only for aesthetic  reasons.     Kelly is going to go through  the process with me,  which I am not looking forward to.

Have a great day,  everyone...
(Tomorrow is Friday the 13th,  for all you who suffer from:
Paraskevidekatriaphobia  or   friggatriskaidekaphobia.

Have a great day,  everyone...

Good Morning dear hearts from a rainy Stanton, Ca. A gentle rain, but lots of it. Maintenance is out sweeping away the big puddles. I love it.

I am trying to make a decision. I have been getting spoiled in having my medications delivered and ordered...not having to worry about when to do what, just sit back and let others do my thinking. After all, at 92 I think it is time to hand over the reins to those younger minds.  So  I am deciding.

Nothing exciting happening out here. I plan to attend a program at 1:30 to discuss the various piers in Calif., and our experience with them. Should be interesting.

Hal, your new bathroom sounds great ! You have earned that money Hal, it is time to enjoy it.

My mind is wanting to take a short nap, it is not eager to be active this morning, so I will oblige it and go close my eyes for while.

Good morning from a still snowing Interior! It surely must have broken our drought by now! Then Friday, Sandy you might be right about the paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia, because we are expected to drop to 40 below. This is the old style weather we haven't had since the early eighties, so we shall see.

Joy, that is exactly what I have been doing, even down to replacing the drip pans for the stove. I'm lucky that I'm able to take items down to the common room and utilize the giveaway table for someone else to use.

Joy, my biyearly was on December 22nd. and they whizz right through, say its clean and leave. I always feel a tiny bit miffed after crawling around the baseboards, and general extra care!

I also am back doing my PSP and Grammer lessons as they started again this week after the Christmas break so that I will be busy again!

I hope that everyone has just the type of day they want or need and that everything goes well! Enjoy your days!

June--It's sprinkling here, but not enough to do much good.  Only you can decide what you want to do about your medications.

Angelface--I've experienced cold weather, but certainly nothing close to -40°.  Friday the 13th doesn't scare me.:)

Joan, the coldest weather I've experienced was minus 68. When I got to my office and started to unwrap, I heard laughter from my boss. He said he had no idea who it was until I was halfway through unwrapping after my long walk!  ;D

Well, I made a decision.  I went to WM and got the things I needed including a new bucket.  I have no idea where my bucket went but it has disappeared.

Patricia, I think I might need one of those inspections periodically so I can get motivated to "crawl around the baseboard"  and all that stuff.  Even just plain vacuuming and dusting takes a major effort on my part.

I think I'll grab a few zzzs before it's time to go get TLH at the bus.  Continue what you've been doing and I'll check up on you after TLH goes home.

Snowing here...which is good because it will stick to the ice that is about. I found Janies zzzzzzzz hiding all the way up here!! Both dogs and I had a long nap and now I feel a bit more human.
Angel, I had to laugh about the unveiling.that would be so funny!
Hal, you will like your new bathroom. When hubby was first diagnosed with RA we took the tub out and put in a shower unit making it much easier for him to use. It has a seat on one end if need be.

Sandy--One question.  How in the heck did you lose your dentures?

Regarding my "lost" dentures.
Because of the shape of my mouth,  my dentures did not
fit tightly enough and always required my using fixodent
or what ever glue was available.   Other wise they would just fall right out of my mouth.

So i would put them in and wear them but when i went to eat,  I would remove them,  because eating with them was too difficult for me.

One day I took them out and lord knows where I put them,  but I never saw them again...  and I have been living with out them now for many many months.      Dentures theses days are very very expensive (no dental plan)  so I have been putting replacing them off now for months.

But I have saved up enough money now to start the process of getting new ones.        So one of these days,  I will have my smile back.  I keep wanting to prolong this decision,  but Kelly now insists that I go forth next week and start the process.

Kelly is going to be traveling to Europe at the end of June,  so she insists that I get this process over and done with,  before she goes away for three weeks.      Two of her girls are also going to Europe,  but they are going to be staying for six weeks.
There are three different families in Europe that will
be hosting Kelly and her girls (separately)  ....
Kelly is going to spend most of her time hiking and mountain climbing in Switzerland.   And her two girls are going to be visiting with two of the exchange students that Kelly's family
brought into their family for two years.

Sandy, hopefully you will get a perfect fit for the dentures this time so you won't have to lose them. With all the modern things medicine has done, they should surely be able to give you fitted dentures. There are implants, but very costly, and I wouldn't want to subject my ancient body to that treatment.

I have had a very quiet morning, dozed off a couple of times. I will go down for lunch soon at our small dining room, then over to the club house for a program.

Bis, you are correct that the decision is mine to make, but somehow, I seem to need a push one way or the other. I want to retain doing my own meds, and yet I do enjoy the service I am offered by others. And I know that eventually I will start making mistakes, and mistakes in medication can be pretty chancey. I'm hoping Gary will make the decision for me. That I could joyfully accept. My self confidence seems to be fading.

My t.v. needs to be replaced, so that's another duty I will pile on Gary when he gets back from Idaho. I hope he will never be sorry he brought me out here to be near them. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Rowntree would help me purchase one.

Sandy--I am sure you will be careful with the new dentures since they are so expensive.

June--I understand what you mean about your medications.  Surely you don't want to make an error.  Rowntree helps to defray the cost of a TV?

Yes, replacing lost   teeth is very expensive ,
but being toothless is also extremely humiliating  and added to my propensity to hibernate with out having my dentures available to hide the fact that my natural teeth were gone.

Functioning with out teeth changed my personality.

So it is time for me to "adjust my sails" ...

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend.   There's a full breakfast to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

CHUCKLES

Buy Your Own

A kindly 90-year-old grandmother found buying presents for family and friends a bit much one Christmas, so she wrote out checks for all of them to put in their Christmas cards.

In each card she wrote, "Buy your own present" and then sent them off.

After the Christmas festivities were over, she found the checks in her desk! Everyone had gotten a Christmas card from her with "Buy your own present" written inside, but without the checks!

Food For Thought

When The Pastor Falls
(By Michael Newnham)

So, my friend wrote me to tell me that a lot of folks in [a certain area] are struggling with the fall of [a] long time... pastor there.

"What do they do now?"

The question honestly irritated me.

It irritated me because it's built on false premises about pastors, the church, and Jesus.

Jesus didn't fall.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever...if your faith is shaken it was in the wrong person.

That's called idolatry and the pastor's fall was the best thing that could happen to you spiritually.

Now, you will always focus on Him.

My friend further asked me if I'd written anything about what to do when pastors sin.

I'd write non stop the rest of my life to cover that...all pastors sin, just as much or more than you do.

What the vast majority of us do is avoid disqualifying sins.

The pastor in question did not, and he hardened his heart as he went to avoid repentance.

He is now disqualified.

Next...

The church itself seems to be in good hands with another pastor who will hopefully install effective accountability structures to help him walk the straight and narrow.

If you understand that the "church" and the "pastor" are not synonymous, that will help you transition.

If you think they are synonymous, refer to my paragraph on idolatry.

The church is all of its members together (with the pastor being one of them), under the headship of Christ.

"For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another."

(Romans 12:4-5 ESV)

Biblically, you're as important to the health of the Body as its elders are.

Right now, the Body you were part of needs all hands on deck to recover and function.

Some of you are upset and I'm going to make you more upset.

You turned over the complete care and feeding of your soul to one man and his name wasn't Jesus.

You showed up and you probably tithed, but you were content to let others determine the health of the church and the accountability of its officers.

You went to and invested in a church where the members have no say in anything, expecting some special anointing on the pastor to protect you from the doctrine of total depravity.

It didn't work and now you feel betrayed.

You were.

Some of you are looking for another man to hand what's left of your faith...if his name isn't Jesus, don't do it.

The lesson is to find those places that value each member as the Bible states they should and be willing to be involved in every level of the church you can serve in.

Demand open and transparent finances and demand that policies be presented to the people for consideration.

Demand to know the church bylaws and the accountability structure for pastors and elders.

Too many churches withhold information because they believe that the "sheep" are dumb animals incompetent to deal with "spiritual" matters.

Stay away from them.

Finally, take responsibility for your spiritual health and that of your family.

No one will do this for you.

In your new situation...trust, but verify.

If you loved the fallen pastor, pray for him and deal with him as another fallen sinner...with as much grace as you can.

If he taught biblical truth, it's still truth...God has spoken through many asses in redemptive history.

Just ask my church...

Thought of the Day

"The church is not a platform to send a pastor’s visionary ideals into orbit around his own wishful dreams. Neither is the church meant to serve as the source of our social stature or emotional well-being. The church is the blood-bought property of God. For a pastor to treat the people as his platform is an act of treasonous theft, stealing for himself that which Christ our great high priest has purchased at the cost of his own blood."

- Timothy Paul Jones

Good Morning dear ones, I woke at three a.m. and cannot find my way back to sleep. So I will sit here and gab at you. I see Bis is up !

Bis, when I say Rowntree would help me with a new t.v., I mean they would advise me as to what to get what I want, and how to do so. Knowing more than I ,what would be best for my size space, for instance. The one I have, Gary had purchased for my house where the room was about twice the size of this one, or more.

Mycheal, I thank you dear friend for your advice, and I do believe I am leaning more and more in that direction. The girls that do this job are so considerate. I can even be in bed when they call and they pour water and bring it to me to take with the pills..always a
big smile and an encouraging word. By the way, is your area in Iowa loaded with snow at this time ? And did you have a nice Christmas ? I hope so.

And now Amy, Jane and Jackie are up and about. Have a good day girls !  We usually get out of a day what we put into it, right ? So onward and upward we go.....HUGS !

Amy lot to be said for burning wood to heat with. the use of it will warm you three times. first when you cut it second when you burn it and third when you
clean up the mess and Carrie the ashes out.  we Have a nice fireplace in the lower level and a round oak cook stove in exultant condition. we have used both
in weather outages. but we also have 4 natural Gas pipelines crossing our farm
one of witch we have a hook up to the house. It has made me lazy. our grandson came the other day and cut wood for us and his self. doubt we will fire a stick of it UN less the weather forces to. I will admit that corn bread or biscuits cooked in it are taster than in a gas heated oven. Have a great day.

PS I feel better but not good as yet by far.

Hi everyone.  We are in for another beautiful 70 degree day today.  My big activitiy for today is to be at the church at 11 am to help pack meals and then take them to a couple of the locations where our church is working on homes that need aid for people not able to do it themselves or afford to have someone do it for them.  This is the annual Project Warm that was started when our minister came to this church 6+ years ago and is an annual event.  They are working on 8 homes today and tomorrow fixing roofs, floor and in general things that need to be repaired in these homes.  This project is done in cooperation with the United Way that provides the funds and the church provides the labor.  While I am not able to do manual labor anymore I can certainly deliver meals to a couple of the homes.  I did the same thing last year. If Pat feels up to it we will go back to COSTCO this afternoon for her to pick out new frames for her glasses.  The housekeeper will be here this morning.

Joy, does your son come and eat with you often?  I know it is a good feeling to get clutter removed and see some empty space.

Beverly, I would certainly encourage you to put the grab bars in your shower if they can be anchored correctly.  I tried to have them put in the shower in our last home and it wasn't possible as there was no stud where they would need to go.  It was a must in this house and while I still have pretty good balance I find myself using them.  As Joan said it is well worth the cost.

Sandy, hope you are feeling much better today.  I can understand you wanting to get the dentures.  I hadn't thought about today being a Friday the 13th.  I am just not superstitious.

June, while it is certainly your decision, it does seem wise to continue letting the staff take care of your medicine.  I find it easy to forget to take my medicine and even in fixing my medicine boxes every two weeks I have sometimes put the pills in the wrong place or missed a box.  There is also a social component of being able to speak to someone when you don't feel up to leaving your apartment and I expect they don't stay long so wouldn't be tiring for you.  You will be very surprised at the better picture you will get on a new TV than your old one.  They really aren't very heavy any more so it isn't a hard thing to get it into the car, into the house and set up.

Sandy, it sounds like Kelly and her daughters will have a nice summer with the European travel.

Larry, thank you so much for your input on the medicine situation. And I do believe I will follow your suggestion. Each day it seems more logical to have it taken care of by younger brains, so it is done properly, timely, and sanely.  I should be thankful that service is available to me.

I am very excited also about my girls getting to spend some or most of their Summer in Europe.   (Mostly Germany and Switzerland).   Kelly opened her home to exchange students thru the years and now  they all will be able to get together and get to know one another.      Kelly will be off hiking etc and
the girls will be doing what young adults do  together with other young adults.

head off in different directions.

Kelly is leaving her car with my other daughter Erin,

I am so grateful for all they do for me.

Good Morning,

Good News!  Miss Emily and her friend arrived home safely from their NYC trip - even though it was about 2:00 a.m.   They decided to drive on in after landing in Dallas last night instead of taking a chance on icy roads this morning.
Sure makes this grandmother's heart glad!

So far, my street and driveway are just damp.   Even so,  it's so cold and gloomy that I was tempted to get up, take my meds and crawl back under the covers.

Hmmm.....

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

My housekeeper will be arriving soon to do the "deep" cleaning..that happens every other week, so I will take my book and retire to the lounge till she finishes.

To late to say Good Morning, so I will say Good Afternoon and thank Joan for the good breakfast this morning.

Larry,  No, I really don't see my youngest son that often.   He usually doesn't get off from work until close to 6 p.m. and he has 2 little Pomeranian dogs that need to be looked after, so  he is usually anxious to get home.  Weekends are busy for him.  He has a horse that he keeps at a farm near him, and when he doesn't have to work on Saturdays, he likes to take advantage of nice weather to go riding or lots of times helps out at the farm. He lives about 15 min from me, as well as another son, so if I really need them for something,  they are both very willing to help out. I just don't like to bother them that much.

He is service  foreman of a Toyota dealership and has many stressful days.  A new grocery store,  Wegman's, opened up right behind where he works and he really loves that store.  I think they are a company out of New York and haven't been in our area that long.  I would say they are a lot like Publix, only I think probably a little bigger.  There are 3 of them not too far from where we live.  If you can't find what you want there, it probably isn't available anywhere.  They advertise that they carry over 800 different kinds of cheese. He did stay and eat with me and it was nice being able to have a one-on-one conversation with him.  He has been divorced for about 10 years.

They also have a very nice eating area within the stores.  And, they have different stations set up where you just pick the food you want, check it out, and take it to the eating area. A pizza bar, hamburger bar, Asian food bar, salad bar, seafood bar,  sushi bar.  etc.   Plus, they also make up full dinner containers and that is what my son brought me. He gets them several times a week for himself.  Very good food.  A little pricey,  but well worth it. I do have friends that shop there on a regular basis, and they say that the prices really aren't  any more than the regular stores.  I like to shop there once in a while as you always see things that you don't see any place else.  Just don't get to go very often. Their produce sections are just wonderful.  Everything is so fresh.

I am still in the process of getting rid of things.  it is really a big job, but something that has to be done.  When I moved into this independent living residence, I vowed not to have any clutter.  Slowly,  but surely, the clutter is starting to gather.  I still need to get to all the bureau drawers, but will wait for next week to start on that.  Where in the world does all the things come from??? LOL  I know I have read that when you buy something new,  you should get rid of something old.  Good thinking, but never happens that way.

Sandy, I am so happy that you are getting your dental work all done.  I have always had dental problems, especially, breaking teeth off, so I know what it is to have to go without my dentures.

June, so glad your leg is healing well.  You are just so fortunate to get such good care.  Sounds like a wonderful place to live.

Need to go look for some lunch and see what the rest of the afternoon brings.

Have a wonderful day, and don't let the Friday, the 13th, bother you.

Joy

Joy--I shopped at Wegmans when we lived in Central NY.  Without a doubt it is the BEST grocery store around.  I sure wish they would build some stores down here.  It's nice that your son live nearby.  All 3 of my children live FAR away.

My "Nest" is all shiny clean and smells so fresh. My dear girl is not a skimmer...she does what she calls "deep" cleaning. There is only one area in which we differ. She makes the bed with Hospital corners on the top sheet. I pull them out to lay loose over the edge of the bed, and also adjust so there is more turnover at the top of my comforter, but I do not intend to tell her how to do her work. I can make adjustments easily enough.

Next on the "menu" is lunch downstairs, then home to catch up on the sleep I missed in the early hours this morning. My eyes keep wanting to close.

So, I will hie myself down to the dining room.

June--How pleasant it is to hear about a housekeeper that does a good job.   I guess we all like our beds made a little different--I like hospital corners.  That's another "whatever floats your boat".

Good morning from the Interior. Yesterday they warned of forty and even fifty below by today. That past week had been running between minus 6 to minus 14, so we were rather expecting colder weather. After all, January and February are usually our coldest months of the winter.

We ended up with zero at nine PM and never did have the cold expected. Now we are having, even more, snow, between four to seven inches, with a half mile visibility, making this one of the snowiest since the mid-eighties and probably the end of our drought. The expectation of cold weather has now been pushed back to Sunday. Such exciting lives we lead.  ::)

Farrah has been sleeping through her days and up at night. Last night she was so convincing with her dashes hither and yon while making deep throated growls that I actually wondered if she had become delirious? Her imagination seems to be quite good or else we have ghosts.  :-\

I am still involved in cleaning, discarding, and arranging items in new ways. I did manage to find homes for some cute high heels and heeled wedges that I know no one here would or could wear. Now what to do with my five backpacks, three camera bags, and thirteen umbrellas all either red or black?

The good news is that I'm finally on the downside of what was started in December 2013. My story is that I'm not slow or lazy, I'm just meticulous. And I'm sticking to it!

Angelface--Perhaps Farrah is just trying to get your attention.  The weather reporters there are about as fickle as they are here.:)  Your sure are doing a thorough job of cleaning and purging.

Patricia, I wonder if Farrah is on duty late at night, so must sleep in the day time. By "duty", I mean perhaps she hears something that the human ear is missing. It made me recall to one home we had....I woke in the mid hours of the night to use the bathroom, and it so quiet at that time, I heard a tiny, tiny scratching sound coming from one wall. I told my husband about it, and in crawling under the house, he found a pile of termite droppings where the bathroom was located. Maybe Farrah hears a mouse somewhere in the building, or some tenant making a sound that only a cat would hear. It sure makes me curious.

Vets will tell you that cats have a high prey instinct and indoor only cats can have a build up that they release by these mad dashes about in play or nocturnal dashes. This is what Farrah is doing as she is a predatory animal. I just find it funny in how she goes about it.

Dogs, while not as predatory, tend to react in chewing or sometimes other destructive behavior without an acceptable outlet.

P.S. Luckily, Alaska has no termites!

I JUST NOTICED THAT I FORGOT TO POST THIS!

I'm home from work and feeling a bit wiped out today.  Please don't tell my daughter or she'll be over here trying to mollycoddle me and I don't need that.  I'm just going to take the rest of the day off...maybe tomorrow, too.  Enjoy your day!

Patricia, thank you for that insight into Farrahs behavior. I had no idea they had the need to work off their natural instincts. Cats are so mysterious in some ways, and so wise in other ways. We had dogs all the time but also two cats during my married life. Moi was a Siamese, and gave the impression he should be addressed "SIR". Felicia was a lovely and loving lady. she birthed three kittens in her box on the washing machine, and I didn't even know she was pregnant. A perfect little mother. She lived with us for over twelve years and was so ill, we had to put her down. She liked to reside on top of the washer where she was free from our overly friendly dog.

Janie, you have certainly earned some time out. The schedule you keep...I feel you are pushing a bit too hard most of the time. When I first knew you, those zzzz's never called you. Do have a completely restful day tomorrow, please ????

June, yes I had a great Christmas, early Mass, delivered meals to the shut in's and those alone, in the afternoon spent a fun quiet afternoon with friends.
And oh yes we have snow , rain, wind, ice, the whole shebang but I am used to it living a lifetime here :) Love the four seasons.

So My Best to you and Everyfriend, mycheal

Mycheal, I agree with you about the 4 seasons, my least favorite is summer but the good side to that is I can run to CO & hide out in the mountains.  I tell my kids "like what you have or do something about it..."  My roots are here but I do love to roam.

Today has been a real Friday the 13th.  Started with gr-daughter calling to see if I had time for her to come & work on her painting.  No question, we could fit it in.  Half an hour later she called all upset about "have to cancel".  So I asked why (she wanted me to  ;) )... seems she went down to get meat out of the freezer and it had all thawed out, freezer not running!  She hadn't called her dad yet (he's the one that can fix anything), so I told her to call him & see if she needs to get a new freezer or what... asked if she needed coolers & ice ... so little while later he called back & said she needed more big skillets to cook the thawed hamburger (she just filled her freezer with home grown beef not raised with hormones, etc).

Her father thought because the freezer is located in same room as furnace & furnace running full blast with these cold temps, it just over heated & he would put a fan on it & see.  The steaks & roasts were still frozen but hamburger still cold enough to not be bad, so cooked & then could re-freeze.  Her biggest problem was she had been saving & freezing breast milk for when she goes back to next week.  It was just the last straw, but we kept telling her to look at the bright side, she had meat cooked for a month & wouldn't have to rush home to cook to fix spaghetti, chili, tacos, etc....

My concern was that as I went to back out of the garage my little Encore popped up a warning that my rear tire was low.... not too low to drive so figured I'd run on over to Sam's Club after helping Sarah.  I just thought it was a slow leak & changing weather.  Son had a look in the driveway as I back out & saw a nail.   :tickedoff:  Got to Sam's & like I feared, too long of a wait so opted to go back later, have an air compressor & would air it up, feed cats & go back.  I did, same wait but was surprised when they came to get me & found a nail sticking out of the other rear tire as well.  One was mashed in but no clue how the other had the sharp end of a nail sticking about an inch out the side wall, right at the tread but not repairable.  So a slow leaker goes back to the dealer next week after ice & snow is gone.  They warned me not to cut the part off sticking out as might void the warranty (if it is covered)....  May be buying a new tire.  I have about 14,000 miles on the car & tires so will be up to the dealer.  Have no clue where the nails came from, not a convenient time.

Patricia, my cats had been running all night (outside) and sleeping on my bed all day.... until we started camping & they stayed awake so much when I was driving.  They would go from window to window at night the first few trips & after that decided they like to sleep at least half of the night with me.  When it turned cold I started letting them stay in the far end of the house (instead of in & out of my bedroom all night) they had food & water upstairs & litter box in the basement, plenty places for them to pick their spot to sleep.  I don't hear them at all during the night so have been getting a lot more sleep.  When they stay out all night they show up on my bedroom door step & reach up to try to open the door but I pretend I don't see or hear them.  I don't leave them out all night if it's too cold, but they are sure happy to come in when I get up!  They do have a good life with the river bank to play ... they are happy and free.  If they weren't feral they wouldn't be nearly as much trouble.

Must get some sleep, haven't gotten a nap in all week but did get laundry done & all things charged "in case" the power goes out.  My stove is gas so only difference is I have to use matches & can't use the oven... but I can always go out in the RV & run the generator & use propane cook top & oven & furnace & frig....  Bring it on, I'm ready!

Hey, Callie, thanks for the moisture, already had one band come through & guess the next will be ice..

Mycheal, you had a very nice Christmas indeed. I am happy for you, and the delivery of meals to the needy was a special Blessing..for them and for you. God must have been smiling.

Tisie, Whew.....I am all worn out just reading about your Friday the 13th. I hope the rest of the meat stays properly frozen.

Friday the 13th. stands out in my memory as my "lucky" day. Coming home from school I was running across the main highway that led to Minneapolis, when a car carrying hunters home from their so-journ hit me and knocked me up in the air. Which I didn't know of course but some others saw it happen. I was not broken, just bruised and sprained and unconscious. But I lived. So I consider Friday the 13th. a very Blessed day for me.

Food For Thought

Joy
(by John Coody)

"Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit." (Psalms 51:12, NKJV)

Joy, a word derived from the Greek word gethein, meaning to rejoice with total bliss. Isaiah 12:3 says "therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation." So many times, even those of us who are saved, get wrapped up in situations and circumstances. We fall and try on our own to get out of sin's grip. We forget that the Christian life is not supposed to be burdensome. Jesus knew that we would have troubles. This is why He told us in Matthew 11:28-30 to come to Him when we are hurting and burdened and He will give us rest. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to leave our worries with Him because He cares for us.

The past couple of weeks, an amazing transformation has been happening in my life. I have been rediscovering the pleasure of knowing what it means to be loved by our Creator. Too often, we miss out on blessings because we give up on God's plan just before it is revealed to us, and seek our own way. I was ready to quit my job. Last week, I received a promotion. I've seen how so many times, I've been willing to give up, when God was in the middle of doing something great. Isn't that the way we all are sometimes?

Christianity is not supposed to be a rigorous and stressful religion where we follow a bunch of do's and dont's. It is a personal relationship with a loving God who wants to give us direction in life for our benefit. By living in obedience to Christ, we find joy that is beyond any happiness we could ever experience. I pray that all of you will experience this joy and the peace of Jesus in your lives this week.

Thought of the Day

"If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer - His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable."

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  I will be anxious to hear how things worked out with Harry.

Radioman--Good morning.  Glad to read you arrived safely but sorry Bubble is not feeling well.

Good morning, Amy.  Great that things went well with your husband's chemo yesterday.  I'd say -16° is mighty cold.  I think you decided wisely about hanging your laundry out.  I sure hope Gloria can get here to have some DDs.

Good morning!  Cloudy today and much cooler than yesterday when the temp. was in the 70's!  I got out and did some cleanup on the front and side porches and the deck.  Took my time doing it because it was so nice.  No ice storm in store for us, thank goodness, but am concerned about those of you who are in the way of this big one in the central part of the country.  Stay SAFE and stay warm.

Joy, I was interested in what you had to say about Wegman's Grocery Store because they will be building one of the first Wegman's in NC very near to where I live.  Supposedly they will start building it some time this year.  I've heard only good things about it and am looking forward to it very much and the fact that it is close to me makes it even better.  We have two Publix stores (and a third one planned for the west side of town) built in our town within the last couple of years and while it is a nice store, it is not convenient to my home.  A headline in the Raleigh news paper calls Cary the grocery store capitol of NC.  There is no shortage of choice for shopping around here and where I go is only governed by how far I want to drive on any given shopping day.

So glad that you are safely in Israel, Don, and apparently tolerated the long trip well.  I am sorry that Bubble isn't feeling well and hope that she improves very soon so you and she can enjoy your time together.

I must toddle off and get some breakfast but will probably check in here again later.  I always like to keep up with what is happening to you all even though I don't always post something.

Don, happy to see you arrived safely, now if you will get your lady well and minus the red nose (her words not mine) then things can get back to normal.

Jackie, let us know how the visit went with your new friend.  And a picture if you take one.

Saturday and I have to go pickup our cleaning lady shortly,
Hope everyone has a great day.  I know Callie and Tissie are not enjoying their day with all the ice.  Hope it skipped Lloyd.

Good morning everyone, I am finally back “home” again. Been a terrible week with no computer. I got tired of waiting for HP to send the flash drive to start this lemon up again. Called my grandson and was lucky to catch him. He came over and did this and that and whatever and got this machine running. That was last night when he got it on. I did not have to reinstall every thing either. With what HP would have had me do would have brought it back to factory settings and I reinstalled everything in this lemon enough times already. So much for their “techs?” and their knowing what to do. I will go back and read what I missed after I read this morning's news.

JOAN  now this is a wonderful way to get back, my favorite lemon DD and boy to me that is comfort food.Chuckles-this past week I would have been happy to have even a slow connecting back again, better than none. I can get back on Skype later, Happy days again. JOY is so true. I have finally found a doctor that is helping me after years of 2 that just brushed off my complaints of my back. My prayers have been heard and something is now going much better. A few more tests coming up and I know I will get better results than I had before. Thank you for all today's goodies, they sure hit home for me.

DON  I have been thinking you must be at Bubble's by now. Glad you arrived safely but sad to read she is not well right now. I wish her a fast recovery.

JACKIE  will have to read back to find out who Harry is.

AMY  I would not hang clothes out in that temperature either. We hit 60° a couple of days ago. Not normal at this time of year. You are right, I am enjoying a lemon DD this morning. Great welcome back, right?

PHYLLIS  just heard on the news about the ice storm in Kansas, hope Shirley is staying in. I sure missed being here every day.

HAL  who is going to win that game tonight? Go Patriots.

Now will post this and start reading back.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Lucky you.  I am so jealous.  Believe what Joy said.  Wegman's is an absolutely amazing grocery store.

halkel--Good morning.  Guess you have to make yourself scarce while the cleaning lady is there.

Good morning, Gloria and HURRAH!!!  We sure missed you.  Thank heaven for your grandson.  HP doesn't know their head from their tail.  Enjoy a few of those lemon DDs to celebrate the revival of your computer.:)

Good morning, Joan and all the Saturday morning friends.

Joan, the donuts are a welcomed treat this morning.  I would like one of the chocolate ones.  LOL

Gloria, so happy to see you back with us.  You are always missed.  Glad that your grandson was able to get your computer back working.  I know when my son comes to do something for me, he clicks on this and that, and all of a sudden everything is back in order.

Don, so glad you arrived safely and sure hope Bubble will be feeling lots better soon.  I am sure she has lots of things planned for your visit.

Phyllis, well, it looks like Wegman's is  slowly making it's way further south now.  As Joan said,  it is an amazing store.  Almost like a department store with so many different things they sell.  They have a flower shop,  a gift shop,  and the restaurant is one of the big drawing cards.  I know you will love going there.  Hopefully, it won't take too long for it to be built.  The new one they just built not too far from me didn't really take that long.  They had to tear down a big industrial building before they could start, and that look a little more time.  Doesn't take them long, tho, once they first get started.

When we used to go to FLorida for the winter,  I always looked forward to shopping at Publix.  They were so much nicer than the grocery stores in our area.  Well, believe me,  Wegman's even tops Publix.

They are calling for messy weather for my area today.  I don't have to go anywhere, so I will be nice and warm inside.  Right now, I have to go and get some coffee to go along with my DD.

Have a good day and stay warm and dry if your area is in for the messy weather.

Joy

Hi everyone on our third in a row beautiful days to be in the mid-70's.  I have been very busy since I got up this morning.  I bought Pat a little printer to be at her easy chair to work with her laptop as we kept having trouble with the wireless printers.  I spent and hour trying to get it installed this morning only to find it doesn't work with the wireless version we have on the Gateway.  So back in the box it went and I will have to return it later today.  I have things ready for Pat's breakfast except to grate up a couple of types of cheese but I have the cheese cut into strips so that will be an easy job with the electric grater I got several months ago.  It makes fast work of grating.  I have also cut up a package of green onions into small pieces and the same with a red pepper.  Needless to say I am ready to sit down and rest.  I had a very tired day yesterday.  I did deliver the meals to the Project Warm workers and will do so again today.  The house was very easy to find and right on the road back to our house.  Someone put the box of meals in my truck at the church and also a case or 32 bottles of water.  When I got to the house I carried up the box of lunches and a bag of cold water but asked one of the workmen to get the case of water out of the truck as knew it was too heavy for me.  Just carrying the box of lunches brought on some chest discomfort that contributed to the tiredness yesterday.  Other than deliver lunches today I plan on a fairly quiet day and late the afternoon and evening will watch the pro-football playoff games.  Later this afternoon I will put together a salad to go with the salmon we plan on having for dinner tonight.

June, wise decision on your medicines as others have said.  You will have more time to do the things you enjoy, perhaps read a few more pages, and not have to worry about medications.  I would be 100% shocked if Gary is anything but delighted of your decision and I bet he is glad you made it rather than him having to do so later.

Joy, like you we try not to bother our son and are thankful he has chosen to come out to the house each Wednesday evening.  I know he would help us if needed or our granddaughter would be able to help with certain things.  Your son would have a stressful job as the service foreman.  Does he have to deal much with the customers?  We don't have Wegman's down here. I sure didn't know there were that many kinds of cheese although we once lived next door to a couple who had opened a cheese shop in a nearby mall.

mycheal, my sister and family live in Estherville, Iowa and they are enjoying the same type of weather as you have.  I keep an eye on the temperature up their and it is cold.

Shirley, want a terrible thing to have a freezer fail.  Glad the meat had not spoiled and losing home grown beef would be quite a loss. Sorry about your tire problems.  I was fortunate when I got the low tire pressure warning it was just due to the change in weather and not a nail.  Your RV gives you a nice backup in bad weather.

Jackie, hope you have a great day with Harry and get a lot of joy from him.

Phyllis, perhaps after Wegman's expands into NC they will decide to come on into our State or perhaps Augusta.  However, I would certainly have to ride a cart to get around such a big store.

Gloria, welcome back as you have been missed.  I likely will never buy another HP computer or printer (certainly not a printer).  Glad you didn't have to reinstall everything.

Joan, when I got to the church yesterday at the time I was told to report the lunches were all packed and folks were carrying them to their cars.  So I had an easy job.

Callie, you can relax now that Miss Emily is safely home.  She sounds like a wise young lady to avoid the possibility of ice.

Good morning, Janie.  I hope you are able to relax and sort out the things that are on your mind.

Joy--Good morning.  We have several different grocery stores around, but I always shop at Publix.  I sure wish we had Wegman's.

Good morning, Larry.  You sure were busy yesterday.  Too bad the printer you bought Pat doesn't work with her equipment.  You sure are becoming quite a cook!!  It sure is nice of you to deliver the meals to those who need them.

halkel--I hope Lloyd, Callie and Shirley are not iced in.

Good Morning,

All well at my house - just having a "leisurely" morning.

The south-facing driveway was just damp and the cover on the paper was wet but not icy.  There are a few tiny little icicles hanging from my bird feeder on the north side of the house.

According to the weather guru, the most ice was from the OK/TX panhandle (Amarillo) state line to the west edge of the OKC metro area and wasn't as heavy as had been expected.  There could still be that invisible "black ice" so footing is iffy -but at 9:00 a.m., there were no power outages.
However, the way the system is moving,  Shirley may get more than I did.

In anticipation of the possible Ice Storm Of The Century,  Carson went back to college yesterday.  Emily has a very light class schedule for the last semester of her Senior year and doesn't have to go until Monday.

Welcome back, Gloria.  Hope your computer problems are permanently fixed.  So happy your back feels better.

Don,  glad you have safely arrived in Israel.  I'm sure Bubble feels better just to have you there.

Larry,  you are a very special type of husband   I have known a few husbands here whose situations were more challenging than yours and have always been impressed at how they quietly stepped in to do what was necessary while helping their wives do as much as they were able.

Jackie,  Good Luck with your "get acquainted day" for the possible new doggie.  Hope you'll soon have a new resident in your home.

The hamburger/veggie soup I made in the crock pot yesterday turned out very well.  Today, I might make some cornbread muffins to go with it.  That should keep me from cutting a piece bigger than I ought to....assuming I can stop myself at one muffin.
There's soup in the hidey-hole.  If and when I get the muffins made, there'll be some of those, too.

:hugs:  to each friend I didn't mention.   Wishing you and Everyfriend an enjoyable day.

Larry,  I always look forward to your messages each day.  I think it is great that you do so much to help Pat out.  I am sure lots of times you do get very tired, but you seem to keep going...... like the energizer bunny.   However, it sounds like you do know your limitations and know when to rest.  I have a lot of health issues, and I have found that I can only do so much and then have to sit down and rest a while. That is why I spend a lot of time on the computer, as it really relaxes me.

I have 3 sons, two of which live about 10 -15 min. from me.  My oldest son lives about 45 min. away.  His wife is great about getting me back and forth to the doctors and other medical appointments.  She runs the printing business that was her late fathers, so she can pretty much leave whenever she needs to.  My other DIL is a Physical Therapist at a hospital outside of Baltimore City,  and she periodically can get me where I have to go.  My sons are available for things other than appointments.  They take me to the store or will go get things for me,, or come here when I need things down in my place.  I am very grateful for what they all do for me.  But, I do try to not bother them too often.  It is different when you have a daughter.  Although I do have good daughter-in-laws.  Neither of the  2 married ones have children.   My youngest son has grown step-children.  I consider all of them my grandchildren and I do  keep in touch with them.  I have 4 great-grand daughters.  They all live out of town, so don't get to see them very often.

And, yes, my son does have to deal with customers most of the time.  He gets very frustrated at times, as a lot of them always feel like the problems they have are due to the mechanic and not the car.  Cars today are so complex and most times it is in the computer systems that cause most problems.  He started out when he was 16 working at a gas station that did repair work, and has worked himself up over the years.  He works at Toyota dealership and been with this same place close to 25 years.  One of his main problems is that kids don't want to work.  He periodically goes to the trade schools to hire students and the majority of them aren't satisfied to just change oil and do minor jobs.  They don't realize they have to start at the bottom of the ladder and work themselves up.  Most of them don't last very long and it is very frustrating.  They will show up when the feel like it.  The place where he works has over 50 bays.  Work has picked up a lot in the past year or so.  So, he does keep busy.  Luckily, he is on salary.

SHIRLEY  like you summer is my least favorite season. Just heard this morning about the ice storm there. I hope you and all your family are staying inside. Like you I am reading the posts backwords.

JANE  is retirement starting to sound good?

PATRICIA  when I see others in high heels I wonder how I ever walked and even did the jitterbug in them. Flats for me for several years now.

JUNE  I taught my CNA how I liked my bed made. On the other side of the bed I like the sheet tucked in, easier to make the next morning.

AMY  glad we have walk in showers here with a seat, but I already had a bath stool to use. I would not be able to get into a tub anymore.

JACKIE  just saw you will pup sit for Harry. Hope it went well with Toby.

PATRICIA  w have inspection here once a year and they come in, sniff the air to make sure we are not smoking in our apartments, glance around and that is it. I cannot do much anymore but my CNA does a good job most times. I do have to remind her about the baseboards though.

BEVERLY  when I lived in an apartment at my son's house I had him put a grab bar for the tub. It sure was needed. Here seems like the whole bathroom has grab bars on all the walls, on 2 sides in the shower, too. I sure do use them.

JANE how is Jim doing? I pray he is improving.

JUNE  it was getting to the stage I could not stand up even with the rollator, I was leaning over it. I would find myself leaning my right arm on the handle to get the weight off my left side. Made me bend over even more. Amazing how the shots last week helped me. When he hit that one spot he knew where to put the shots. I go again the end of the month and he said the shots would be by the spine. Glad that wound is finally healing. Glad Gary and Dori are there to see Ryan's ordination. Wonderful occasion for them.

HAL  on the news lately they have been saying a lot of flu in this area. Glad I got the shot but that does not help everyone.

JANE do you put peanut butter in your Chili? I never did and was surprised the first time I heard about it used to thicken it up. I have not made it in several years, wonder if my CNA could help me make it. I know it freezes great.

JUNE  know what you mean about soaking in a tub pf hot water. I would love to do that, too.

JOAN  still waiting for that flash drive. Sure glad I called my grandson. I was going to ask him to come when I got that flash drive. Instead he came over to see what he could do. So glad he did, because here I am.

JANE  first time I heard of potatoes in chili. Wish I had been here earlier to try it that way.

JUNE  you would not want to hear what I was thinking and saying about this computer last week.

HAL  I am with you, swallow and suddenly start coughing. Wonder why.

JOAN  laughed at your chuckles-Computer Problems? Wish that was all it takes.

Wish I had gone to the local TV station before when this piece of junk went back to the factory the second time. Figure it is too late now. I would not take another HP if it was the best one they have if they gave it to me.

All finished reading. We had snow this past week, it was cold so it was a light fluffy snow. 2 days later we gad a warm day with rain and only the piles from the plow left.

Meet Harry.....Harry is very quiet, didn't bark once...nor did he play....he made himself at home, slept on his bed or our sofa...moved over to rest his head on my knee near to the end....He doesn't eat from a bowl, only from handfed which temp owner is working on....He loves the dog but works during the day and has to take the dog with him and leaves him in the car which he says, and I also agree, is not the right thing to do....His girlfriend does not live with him but she took over the dog as the now departed owners daughter and family dont want the dog, but she herself can't have the dog as she has 4 cats of her own, and even if she did live on our site, cats aren't allowed, only dogs...Temp male owner is such a nice and honest to the point man, he spent some time with us, we talked at length....I can see he only wants the best for Harry...he wants Harry to go to the right home and is in no hurry to part with him, plus he still has his work cut out as Harry does not eat from a bowl but has been hand fed in the past....Harry was as good as gold, never barked once, slept a lot both in his bed and on the corner of our sofa...then near to the end of the day he turned towards my lap, rested and lay'ed his head on my knee, part lifted his tiny poor for a belly rub, which temp owner told me he was after.....We are having him again tomorrow, similar hours but hand on heart I am uncertain as to whether this is the right dog for me....His temp owner assures me he isn't prepared to have him put down, unlike his departed owner's daughter would have done if she had her way.....

Callie--Glad to know all is OK at your house.  I hope we hear from Lloyd and Shirley.

Joy--You are lucky to have 3 sons living so close.  My three children would help me out, BUT 2 live a 10 hour drive away and the other a 2 day drive away.

Gloria--It doesn't sound like your yearly inspection is very extensive.  It could be that flash drive never shows up.

Vanilla-Jackie--Harry is absolutely adorable.  Except for having to hand feed him, I think he's perfect.  You're so good with dogs I bet you could break him quickly of that habit.

JOAN...
...we think something may have happened to him in the past, he had a previous owner ( before his elderly lady owner who has just passed away, even though she hand fed him, ) that temp owner and girlfriend know nothing about...When he is being hand fed or I tilt the saucer of food, he kindof puts a tiny bit in his mouth then backs away, like he is frightened...but he did on the third or fourth attempt stay and lick from the saucer but I only tried him on a spoonful of dog food just to see if I could get him used to eating with Toby at the same time....Temp owners suggestion for tomorrow is so that we can feed him, owner has taken him now so he can feed him...

Jackie, he is darling!  So sad to see evidence of mistreatment in a precious doggie's previous life.  My son/dil took in the brother of a puppy they had gotten because, other than to be taken outside for a brief potty call, he spent all of his time in a carrier/cage.  It took a long time for him to trust that he could run about and play.  He is still the more clingy of the two.

Strange thing, Harry knew when his temp owner was here to collect him, although he doesn't seem a dog to show excitement but, he didn't seem very eager to get up from the sofa and go home with him, even though the couple of times owner had left him during the day, he seemed like he was looking for him wondering where he had gone.... so maybe he had gotten quite  comfortable with us...

I also dont think he has been taught commands, he doesn't understand the word " sit " hasn't been taught that...and unlike my late three dogs, doesn't come running when I called out, or shouted out " dinner..." but he does understand and responds to his name...

Vanilla-Jackie--It does sound like Harry was somehow mistreated with the original owner.  I'd be willing to bet after a couple more times with you he won't have to be hand fed.

Callie--We once had a dog who came scratching at our door during a terrible storm.  The poor thing was trembling and filthy from the mud of the storm.  I wanted to bathe her and feed her, but for the first couple days she wouldn't let us touch her.  Finally she ate and let me bathe her.  I tried to find the owner--we already had one dog--but was unsuccessful.  During her 10 years with us she never did really warm up to us--she shook at the tiniest noise.  We felt she'd been mistreated and dropped off.

Good Morning dear hearts, I had to take a pain pill at 2 a.m. and it helped. slept until nearly 7. Showered, dressed and went down for a fresh leg bandage. The wound is healing, but goodness it takes forever, due to the P.A.D.

Don, I am so glad you have arrived safely in Israel. I am confident Bubble will soon be feeling very well with you there to help her heal.

I will be so happy when our Gloria is back positing again. Things are just not the same with one member of our "family" missing.

THERE SHE IS !!! Hi, Gloria dear.....so good to see your face, now I will read your message, as you catch up with ours.

Janie, we will wait for you, with prayers your concerns will be healed. Hugs !!

Guess what ! I suddenly got so tired I had to go lay down and then fell asleep. This body is just full of surprises. When I finally woke up I felt it was time for a walk, so now that is done and it is time to go downstairs and have lunch, and after I eat, I'll bet you that sleep wll be required again. Life is great !!!!!

Hal, how is the new bathroom progressing ? I'm sure you will like it.

We are having a nice sun shiny day in Stanton. Refreshing after our few days of rain.

Time to go down for lunch. See you later. June

Good afternoon friends.  Did anyone miss me? I am just home from the hospital, I went in last Friday, as I had pneumonia again and another heat attack. I will have a nurse come in 3 times a week. They wanted me to go to another hospital  near the city, but I said no. not at this age. May be I still will make 93 next month.  Also  I could have gone to a NH, My neighbors said they will watch over me. I can get around the house, if I take it slow and easy. There was a women who was suppose to be a helper, but would you believe she got sick.  I am doing fine, and here on the PC, which makes me happy to be back with all of you.
Taffy is following me all over,

I'm happy to meet Harry (and what a timely name for him!)  I painted a portrait of one years ago and his "mother"  absolutely doted on him.  His name was Pierre' and had his top-knot hair pulled up with a child's clip to keep his hair out of his eyes & food.  Poor Harry, probably doesn't know where he belongs and who will be his forever family.  I know you would make him feel safe and loved, Jackie.

Weather says the serious ice is now 46 minutes from moving in to our area.  We didn't have any ice on the trees this morning but the driveway was shiny & slick.... I didn't go out, cats have been in & out for exercise.  Even old Lauren raced up & down & around the pool, would look to see if I was watching her & to make sure I would have the door open when she wanted back in!

Gloria, I'm so glad your computer is working again (no thanks to the maker!)  I kind of know how it is since my RV gave me nothing but headaches the first 2 years and finally when warranty ran out & I got others (including Andy) to fix things.... they stayed fixed & I'm eager to give it another chance.  A different one could be just as much trouble.  Good luck & keep that kid on tap!

Joy, my son started out doing the "grunt work" for a family owned mechanic shop when in high school and worked for a larger shop when going to college.  He bought a beautiful Olds "over the block" in college & in his own garage & spare time, took out the diesel engine & transmission & replaced it with standard & drove it over 200,000 miles before it flat wore out.  He married while in college so they got his wife through early by having her quit her part time job & go more hours (she graduated with Industrial Engineering degree) & got on with an aircraft plant earning enough for Andy to cut back on work & get more classes taken.  Not easy but they did it & now both of their kids also got engineering degrees. They worked so hard, but when they decided to have kids they decided she could stay home & raise the kids.  When the kids started school she volunteered so much she decided to go back to college for a teaching degree instead of refresher to go back to engineering.  She is still teaching since they want her to have that pension she worked so hard for.... and gave up so much money earning instead of staying with engineering.  They have no regrets.  You are right about the new cars being such a challenge for mechanics, son still changes oil in all of their & their kids cars..... been trying to teach the son in law how to do a lot of things, saves so much over the years.  Your son is right about the young kids not willing to work or start at the bottom.  A good mechanic is worth gold and just as hard to find.

I won't name names but you men that post in here amaze me how handy and good you are taking care of your wives.  All of you know your way around the kitchen and so thoughtful about taking care of your wife as well as being willing to eat out.  I'm proud to know you!

Hugs to all, this ended up being another book, sorry about that...  :-[

Callie... the ice, heavy at times is due to start in 17 minutes.  I'd better go gather up cats to come in & eat before they have to find a hidey hole... they stay put until bad weather is over & don't think they know what is in store~~  Looks like this round is serious... thanks a bunch!

June, I've been sleeping off & on all day & even forgot to eat lunch.  I'm so glad your leg is healing and since I remember how Cas hated having to fill his pill boxes, happy they will do that for you.

Joan, these cats finally warmed up to just us, don't trust anyone else.... so you understand what a job it is that they are "one family" critters.  I don't think we allow punishment harsh enough for humans that mistreat animals ... or babies or the defenseless.  I have no mercy or sympathy for anyone that abuses anyone or anything.
:tickedoff:

Oh, Linedancer, how awful for you.... so glad you are home and bet Taffy was really upset.  My gr-son went in again yesterday, we were all afraid he would have pneumonia but the Dr gave him 3 prescriptions & hope this will get it cured this time.  His has been going on for a long time & it angers me that doctors won't be a little more aggressive when they know something like this is going around.  Sounds like you are getting good care and know what it is like when help gets sick or doesn't show up.  I have an eye appointment Tuesday & hate to go in crowds with so many germs around.  I always wipe the cart handles off & clean my hands when I get back to my car.... people have to get out to pick up prescriptions & often have sick kids with them.  Take care!

Good morning from the Interior where we are enjoying a balmy one degree instead of the forty or fifty below forecast. Now they are saying those cold temperatures will show up on Sunday. We have literally white skies and snow flurries still, so we shall see!

Welcome back, Gloria! When I was working, I often dealt with the public and acted as a buffer between staff and public so I had to dress and act the part. The worst part was interviewing and or firing. One girl was a fundamentalist homeschooled Christian who could barely read and certainly couldn't spell, but she "knew" her bible. Unfortunately, she tried to ridicule and convert everyone she came across. When she was fired, less than two weeks in, (I wasn't the one who hired her, but ended up firing her.); after numerous complaints from just about everyone. She literally had no idea she was at fault and blamed the hotel for being anti-Christians!

However, most were as Joy's son stated. no one expected to actually work and thought gab fests were required. Although to be fair, some teenagers and early twenty-year-olds were hard workers and went looking for ways to help. One nineteen year old became a department manager and knew his department better than I knew the store! I was really sorry when he left to go to management training!

Jackie, I certainly hope Harry finds a good home soon with you or someone equally as good. He may still be finding his way after the loss of his previous owner. I have dealt with many abused animals and patience is a necessity. When Farrah spent her two months under my bed, it took time and a great deal of ignoring her before she began to trust and relax. There were times when I thought she would never respond.

Harry certainly looks like a mix, perhaps Lapso Apso?

Gloria de., I am so glad you are better and back home again! It must be so nice to get better in your own home. I bet Taffy was wondering where you went, what happened, and wants to be sure it doesn't happen again!

Shirley, I feel for you and the ice storm! I have been in two, the entire city shut down and my fall on black ice ruined my walking days from then on!

The above is a link to a video of the ice on Lake Michigan at Grand Haven.  There are views we don't see in the usual shot.

Shirley, I just looked at the radar and that is a wide swath of "mix' headed your way.  We do get ice occasionally, but Lake Michigan does save us from a lot of bad weather.

I'm glad to see the two Glorias back.  I hate to tell Gloria Z that I have both HP computer and printer and get along fine (knock on wood).  After some time with more than one computer (all HP), I finally realized my problem was my own fault because I had not disabled the touch pad of my laptop while using a mouse.  I don't mean to imply that you are at fault for your computer problems, only that I was.  Also, my problems were vastly different than what you've had.  My oldest computer would shut down when it got too warm as the vent is on the bottom.  I also had combined W-10 and W-7 but the mouse/touch pad was the real cause of the cursor moving all over the screen.  I won't say my problems are over, but things are going along a lot better now.

Gloria D, I'm glad someone will be in to check on you.  Things do happen when we reach our age.  I swear more things have happened to me healthwise in the last ten years than happened in the previous 80.  I can walk to the mailbox across the road but not much further.  Tom does the grocery shopping and I sold my car so I no longer drive.  I spend too much time at the computer, but also watch some TV.  Kendrick keeps me company and I know he'd like more attention.

Shirley, do your cats prefer to be outside in bad weather in their hiding places instead of being in a dry house?  I let Kendrick on the deck and he tiptoes around the edge of the deck where there is no snow.  But he is a housecat, indoor variety, and I know there is a big difference from a feral cat.

This is close to being a book, so - see you all later.

An old friend of mine from TA and also Facebook recently posted this on Pinterest.

"To keep algae growth from your bird bath drop some pre-1982 copper pennies in. I have what I would call a normal size bird bath & I use 7 pennies. The reason for the pennies being pre-1982 is that before that year, the pennies contained copper, a natural algicide."

June, they start next Wednesday and suppose to take just two days to complete the job.  So the boss says.

Jackie, I looked at Harry's eyes and see fear.  When you were taking the picture he/she was looking at you from the top of her eyes in a what I perceive as a fearful manner.  Maybe just me.  Beautiful animal and I think you would make an ideal home for it.  Harry just has never had a home he could depend on.

Gloria, I hope you keep that machine working.  I would still let them know how you feel and at the highest level you can get to.  When I see problems like yours I wish I was a rich man and could take out full page ads to let the world know all the problems and lack of attention given to them.

Shirley, my stepmom and dad had a feral tom cat that they had for years.  It showed up at their place on the lake, where they lived for a number of years, and she also had a Siamese cat which wasn't very friendly to anyone but her and dad.  If I stayed there for a few days they would finally come out of their hiding places and greet me.  Stepmom had them broken to a leash.  They, like you, stayed on the road quite a bit and in RV parks.  But even back home she kept them on long leashes in the back yard when she let them out.  They also had a dog, Spot, I think they had it for at least 150 years.....just kiddin, but it seemed like forever, poor thing got so sensitive to being touched that it would cry out when petted.  I found out the hard way, came for a visit and reached down and petted Spot and you would have thought I hit it with a stick or something they way it yelped.

GloriaD,  not good to have pneumonia plus a heart attack.  I look forward to celebrating your 93rd birthday next month.

Shirley, the "freeze line" running northeast to southwest across Oklahoma has moved back and forth so much that the weather service can't keep up with who will have plain old rain, freezing rain or ice!
One weatherman this morning spent quite a bit of time "explaining" how much more ice could be expected if it's 27º than if it's 31º.  That's getting real picky since they're both below freezing!
The prediction for tomorrow is "in the 40's" and 52º on Monday.

I agree with your comment that men that post in here amaze me how handy and good you are taking care of your wives.  All of you know your way around the kitchen and so thoughtful about taking care of your wife as well as being willing to eat out.  I'm also proud to know them.

BTW. June - I think I've forgotten to say how glad I am that you've decided to keep on having your meds brought to you.  That should relieve you of one thing to keep up with so you can spend more time thinking about fun things to do.   Hugs to you, dear friend.

My veggie soup and cornbread were very good at lunch.  Recipe made 6 muffins and I can report that more than half of them went into the freezer (not saying how many more....   ;D)

I also have an HD computer and printer (new one of those) and like both very much.  However, I've been fussing with my computer most of the afternoon - trying to straighten out some updates, downloads and security warnings.  All is well - but my entire opening screen has been redone and rearranged.  Hate it when I have to put the icons back where I want them instead of where the computer thinks they ought to be!   >:(

Guess I'll go look out the window and see what's happened since the last time I looked.

June--Sorry you had to get up in the middle of the night for a pain pill.

Linedancer--Yes, I missed you.  I am sorry you were in the hospital but that's the best place for you when you have pneumonia and had a stroke.  I'm glad to hear a nurse will be checking on you.

Shirley--Anyone who abuses a critter belongs behind bars, IMO.

Angelface--Some people don't realize they should keep their personal business to themselves when they are at work.  Thanks for the info, but I don't have a birdbath.

Mary Ann--Thanks for the link.  I will go there when I am done with this post.

halkel--They must be speedy  workers.

Callie--I don't like when my icons get rearranged either.

The thing people don't realize, especially nowadays is your place of employment is not your family. Your position relies on what you can do for them and not what they can do for you. So many folks of all ages never learned this. I remember one girl who was terrific! She would be on break or lunch and someone would get going on some topic. She would put her head in her hands and loudly state, "Just stop talking!" It always shut the person up, at least for awhile!

Weather update:   Just turned on the ABC National News.  Shirley is getting hit hard with ice!
There were pictures of problems in Oklahoma - but they weren't in the OKC metro area.  Weather map still shows icy conditions moving southwest to northeast across western Oklahoma at least 30 or more miles west of OKC.  That will miss us.
We may get rain overnight that will freeze on the roads tomorrow morning but it should thaw by afternoon.

Those in the path of this mess please stay warm and safe.

Believe they have been getting the blunt of the bad ugly stuff as we get it bad enough but seems much has stayed west of us ~

Have a great one .

Hey, Callie, I can testify to the ice now..... put on boots & ran out to take the rain gauge down.... it's probably already cracked (I have another just like it with a like boo-boo  :-[ )..... did have a little water in from the shower this afternoon but the outside was coated with ice so I sat it in the wash basin in the utility bathroom.... it can drip all it wants in there.  Kind of yucky out.

Better go let the cats back in, they all wanted to have a look.  They are funny, even old LaurenKat will go out just to see if I will let them, just like kids. I take care of them but they are free spirits and only time they are totally confined is in the RV... I don't want to have to search for them because they will hide if any other human is in the area.

Hal, we tried every leash design pet stores had to offer and Cas even ordered one from Australia but Lauren could wiggle out of anything, smart, too, and knew that it was easiest if she darted around a shrub to put tension on the leash... then she could back out of it.  Her head is very tiny and her shoulders are double jointed, must be since it looks like she can pull them out of their sockets to slip out of the harness.  The time she got out in the State Park near Jefferson City (MO) we found her harness & leash in a tree but no sign of her.

She stayed out all night and I stepped out of the Rialta every 15 minutes the whole night, to let her know we were still there.  Heard an own hoot all night & was afraid it would consider her a juicy meal.  She showed up when Cas went out at dawn to call her.  He came back in clutching her like a baby.  She was happy as could be, told us good morning & went right to the door to go back out!  Cas was distraught and didn't sleep a wink all night, she really was his baby at that time.  We never tried to harness her again & never bought big ones for the other 2....   By the way, what made Spot so touchy?

We had a Siamese cat across the street from us when we got the baby German Shepherd (at 4 weeks).  That darn cat would hide behind any bush near the street and run out & pounce on the pup on a leash.  I would chase it off & knew the day would come when the dog would outgrow that cat.  Sure enough, when she realized she was bigger & the cat quit jumping on her, every time she got loose she would go sit on the Siamese cat's porch & face the door... " wanna come out & play?....."

Better go let cats in, finish my chicken noodle soup (Campbell's), check how much ice so far and take that Sat night shower & wash hair in case we lose power.  Not an easy job in candle light.  I think I remember how to get in here with my phone ... just got to turn it on.   :2funny:

Mary Ann, that was amazing video of the ice!

Patricia, remind me again next spring about the copper pennies because my big clam shell birdbath gets algae bad, it sits on the ground & even the ducks used to claim it & birds line up to use. Right now it stands on end so it doesn't crack.  I have cake pan size ones I made out of concrete that I put water in during the winter.  They don't hold a lot of water & so far haven't cracked when the water freezes.

Hi, Lloyd, glad you are feeling better.  I quit taking the paper after Cas died, all I read was the obits & can read them online.  He read every line.  I also quit cable TV after he died, he watched sports & those all news talk shows.  I like what I get on antenna much better.  You take care.

Okay, shut up, Shirley!!!  Hugs to all, enjoy tomorrow where ever you are!

Remember my losing a hearing aid and having it found after several days?  Well, I have another hearing aid problem and this won't be so easy to fix.  The tiny plastic wire that relays sound to the inner ear has a break in it.   I think the entire hearing aid will need to be replaced - and it's three years beyond the warranty.   :(

I have fallen so far behind in posts..sleep takes up a great deal of the day now, I may have to "change my way of Livin' and if that aint enough, I'll even have to change the way, I strut my stuff....." that is a song, but my uTube is not working so I can't find the title...darn.

Never the less....I do keep missing posts or losing them or something.

Jackie, I do hope you will take in Harry. He needs the security you could offer him. I concur with Hal, that he has the look of fear in his eyes. Poor thing, my heart goes out to him.

Gloria de, I hope and pray you get to that 93 year mark and way beyond...your friendship means so much to me. Now that I am in my 92nd. year, I too am hoping to have the 93rd. We are in God's hands of course, and our days here are up to Him.We can rest in the knowledge that we have great things to look forward to on the path to Heaven.

Had a nice call from my Gary. It feels so good to have them back home from Idaho and only 15 minutes away. He plans to get me a couple more cases of  Ensure this week, and whatever else I need, he will take care of. He is comfortable with my decision to have my meds delivered rather than do it myself, and that makes me happy.

I am not at all hungry but we have to eat, and I have lots of goodies in the fridge, so I will go see what appeals. Enjoy your evening dear hearts.

Hi everyone. I decided to read the postings and write tonight rather than in the morning as I never have much time on Sunday morning.  Pat said tonight she plans on going to church with me tomorrow so I will go to Sunday School and then come home and get her for church.  It has been several weeks again since she attended.  I had another busy day.  I did get the meals delivered at noon for the Project Warm folks and then went on to Walmart to return the printer that would not work with my wi-fi.  I came home and had lunch and napped for awhile.  Then I went to Office Depot and got an Epson printer for Pat.  I will install it in the morning.  I don't think I have ever had an Epson printer.  This afternoon I watched the Atlanta Falcons beat the Seattle Seahawks and am now watching the Houston/New England game.

Joy, like you I do tire easily but if I can sit down for five or ten minutes I will be able to get up and continue.  Today has been a much better day and I haven't had that exhausted feeling that wouldn't go away as I did yesterday.  I assure you I am no Energizer Bunny.  I also often rest at my computer desk in my office.  Over 50 bays for service would be a huge job.  There is a much different mindset about jobs now than when we were in the work force.

Hello Jeanne Lee'
relax all the components and individual parts can be replaced. some just plug in others have to be super glued in. do not know about the cost to you but if you have home owners insurance, but cost may not be too high maybe can afford out of pocket. I have had every piece of my aids replaced or glued back together. just relax and turn your other ear to sound until Tuesday and go to ear place and tell them to be easy on you you are on fixed income. If that dont work send your broke aid to me and I will take good parts off of mine and fix yours and send it back to you and take myen to V A and tell them to fix it.
either way it is not as bad as you think or go to your preacher and cry hard times bet he can get it fiixed. or send me just a short of the tube and tell me about how long it needs to be. I will send you a new one, all you will have to do is put it in or have someone do it for you.

Supper is eaten and I feel stuffed. Perhaps another walk in the hallways is in order. I need to write a check for Church tomorrow, so I had better do it now before I forget.

I dont believe Harry was mistreated with his previous owner, the 80 plus year old lady who has just passed away from cancer but more doted and pampered on, she hand fed him, but whether that was just her doing or whether that came from his previous owner also, we dont know....He comes from a large and wealthy home but were told the home was kept in a mess as the lady also had rabbits and guinea pigs and straw inside her home.....maybe the lady was a bit on the eccentric side...I might find out more as and when I meet up with temp owners female partner ( friend of the ladies daughter, the one who wants the dog put down, ) she couldn't get over here this weekend, told I may get to meet her some time in the week......
