Patricia, I am so happy you are the one that adopted Farrah. You knew in your heart what this little lady needed and you didn't push her into accepting her new surroundings. I am proud of you, and pleased with Farrah.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Angelface--That's GREAT that Farrah is "home".

JeanneP--Here it is so hot and humid that if I wanted to use my car, I'd have to get the a/c fixed asap.  Thanks for the tip but I don't have a toaster oven.

Hi June.

JaneS

No toaster oven here either but I try to make use of my crock pot as often as I can in the summer.

Larry, I do intend to get the a/c in the car repaired but it's not top priority right now.  With property taxes coming up and having to use some of the savings there, I need to regroup.

I found a place close by to pick strawberries while I was on the way home from the Amish store yesterday.  They are open until 8 at night so I'll go find my zzzzs on the sofa and wait for the sun to sink a bit to the west and then I'll head out to the strawberry patch.  If I don't make it today, I'll go tomorrow. I called and she said, "the sooner the better" but that she expected to have some most of the week.

Keep cool!  Except for Junee!  I think she might be headin' into winter right about now.

Janie--GREAT that you found a place to pick strawberries.  My property taxes are coming due soon, too.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

The only reason I went to the grocery store after my usual hair appointment is that I scraped the bottom of the jar to get enough peanut butter to put on my toast and didn't have another jar in the pantry.   :yikes:

Jeanne,  I couldn't do without my toaster oven!  I think it was a Miles Kimball catalog where I found baking pans that were toaster oven size.  I also have several casserole dishes that fit well.
Wish I could convince Miss Ellen that one would help her but she insists the microwave is all she needs.

Angelface,  so happy to read that Farrah feels at home now.   You were the perfect one to adopt her.

The very idea of baling hay makes me itch!   My Dad was not a farmer or rancher but we lived on a big acreage and had a couple of milk cows that I helped feed (well - at least, my Dad let me think I was helping  ;D).  I also learned to milk  - although I never could hit the cat's mouth like my Dad did.
Other than gathering eggs from the chicken house, I never did any other farm chores - nor did I want to learn.

I think I'll have a "leisurely" afternoon.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

angelface555

My maternal grandparents had a farm outside of Montrose, Colorado and my paternal grandparents had one outside of Joplin, Missouri. The one in Colorado was mainly horses and sugar beets with the odd milk cow or mule thrown in. The Missouri one was more corn and more traditional.

I learned in both, to help herd the cows to and from the barn and how to milk although not well. I also made the mistake of sneaking out to watch them burn the hay remnants in Missouri and the killing, using hoes, of the hidden rats. Not a pleasant memory! In Colorado, we were playing follow the leader with all seven grandchildren when I slipped off the board in the grain silo and almost drowned in the grain. Also not a pleasant memory! All in all, I was better off not living on a farm!

In Fairbanks, we did have a very large home garden and my parents also hunted and fished to argument the food supply. The three of us girls were put to work in the garden, cleaning and preparing the fish and meat as well as the food preparations, canning, and preserving. Also, not what I enjoyed doing but it was expected. We wanted to go and play with the other kids and felt severely punished, but now I'm glad I had those experiences and knowledge.

JoanFL

Callie--I can't do without peanut butter either.  I've never had a toaster oven, so if I've got along without one all this time, guess I don't need one.

angelface--You sure had farm experiences growing up.

I found the zzzzs!  And now I'm ready for the strawberries.  I figure I'll try to get there around 6:30 (they're open until 8) and I should be able to get what I want in an hour and a half and not wear myself out.

Angel
When I introduced my cat Lily to my home
with my cat Percy having been there a few
months...

Percy went to hide in the bathroom behind
the toilet  and stayed there,  night and
day for four weeks.    (served him his food and
put a cat litter and water in there for him)...

I left the door open  and Lily (the new cat) took
over the rest of the apartment and we
left Percy alone.

Eventually,  on his own,  he came out and
joined the rest of us.  Then they both
ended up playing and sleeping on the
bed with me.

I am so happy to hear that your new
kitty is adjusting and enjoying you now.
It sounds like you have let him adjust
at his own speed,  and that seems to
be working out great for the both
of you.

Congratulations,
Sandy

Like everything else. Once you have a Toaster Oven you find that you can't do without one. I have a small one and also a Convection oven both on counters. I use them a lot along with the  MW I have not had my big oven on for 2 years.  Also have the 3 size Clock pots but the small one I use the most.

Yes , I found the baking things for the Toaster oven. 6 hole cupcake maker. little roaster.cookie sheet. Cute.  The Convection Oven uses reg. size
JeanneP

JoanFL

Janie--Eat a few strawberries for me while you are picking, OK?

Sandy--And now you have no cats?

JeanneP--I've gotten along without a convection oven all these years, so won't be buying one now.

My last kitty was 17 when
I had to have him put to sleep...  That was over
a year ago.

My two cats Percy and Lily and now my
sons two cats (I think that he has three now)

I have decided not to have any more animals...
But if I go to someone else's house who
has them,  I enjoy them.    But no more
for me.

A lovely day in Hemet, no need for A/C at all. We were entertained today by a fellow from Long Beach that sells birds. He brought Seven of his birds for us to hear about and hold, I held a beautiful multi-colored Parrot. He had us hold our our hands, cradled, then he lay the bird on its back in our hands. That was a thrill. He had a huge bright blue Macaw, but it was not too friendly. two pure white birds..I don't know their title, or breed or whatever you call a birds heritage, and two darling pure bright yellow parrots. They were brothers. It really tempted to me to purchase  parakeet. We had several when the kids were little..very tame and easy to care for. One got outside and flew straight up into the sky, circled around. I stood out side with my hand raised and the bird..Tweety-Pie..came down and landed on my finger, and I took him back into the house. I still cannot believe the magic of that flight landing.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

JeanneP

Oh! June. Get you a little bird.  I couldn't do without on in the house.  Use to have the big Parrots but now have a small one.  It talks up a storm. More than the others because I can keep a smaller cage by my lounge chair.  Quite easy to take care of. BUDGIES or a british Parakeet. Real easy. It would be my next one if I have to buy.

JeanneP

JeanneP

JoanFL.  You must not be crazy about Kitchen Gadgets as I am. I am trying to stop now buying things. Have so many. Have always loved different one but not they are coming out all the time.  Need to get some of mine down to Texas to the Daughter.

Supermarket Survey

One day Dr. Mike Wilson noticed an elderly lady slowly pushing a cart through the supermarket parking lot.

Ever courteous, he insisted on taking it over for her.

The woman struggled alongside, doing her best to keep up.

At the entrance, he said, "Here you go, ma'am," and gave her the cart.

Catching her breath, she said, "Thank you, but I was using it to lean on."

Food For Thought

The Holy Spirit as Seal

He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
In the ancient world, a seal was usually made by etching or carving the symbol or name of an important person on a piece of stone or other hard substance, and it was pressed into wet clay or soft wax to leave an impression representing that person. A sealed object or document conveyed authenticity, authority, and ownership.
In our reading for today, the apostle Paul uses the image of a seal to convey the Holy Spirit’s role in marking us with God’s ownership. In his sealing work, the Holy Spirit communicates deeply in our hearts that we belong to God and that nothing will ever separate us from his love (see Romans 8:35-39). The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives serves as God’s mark on us, as well as a guarantee that in belonging to God we will blossom and flourish as we grow in our walk with Jesus.
Do you ever feel lonely? Do you sometimes have doubts? Do you sometimes even wonder if God loves you? Take comfort and courage today in knowing that you have God’s seal on your heart; you have the Holy Spirit’s presence not only as a mark but also as an assur¬ance that he will never leave you or forsake you.
God, you have sealed our hearts with the Holy Spirit. In our fears and our doubts, may your Spirit speak to us and through us so that we may know and share the love of Jesus. In his name, Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special GOOD MORNING to you, Joanie.  Thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.

It was down in the low 60s overnight (good sleeping weather) and it's only going up to 81 today.  Not too bad for a June day.

My only plan for today is to put in my 4 hours at Wally World.  Then I'll be home to take care of the doggies and then off to the Farmer's market to see what I can get.  Sometime along the way, I'll probably catch a few zzzs on the sofa.

I talked to my friend in California yesterday and she's working on a trip home in late July.  It will be nice to see her again.  We always have a good time when she's here.  I get to visit all the old haunts because that's what she likes to do.

I guess I'm up early again today but that's OK because I went to bed a little early last night.  The doggies have already been out and now they're taking a little nap before bugging me for breakfast.  I'll be back later.  Have a lovely day, Everyfriend!

Joan, the smell of bacon has got me in....

Well our weather doesn't look as if it is going to match yesterdays weather, grey and damp, rain through the night, early morning.....After R went out to do his shop yesterday, I got myself busy unwrapping our decking furniture, took me absolutely ages....two part soggy, part dry, large corrugated cardboard boxes, with a smaller box inside, plus loads and loads of sellotape, plus plastic wrappings stuck to the outside of each wicker armchair...I had to take several sit down breathers, played havoc with my MS and body but, i got there in the end, and so worth it when I plonked my body down on the first chair complete with padded cushions, seat and backrest...By the time R got home I was sunning myself with some very strong heat...just the right time of day when the sun was in front of me going over our home...then it passes to the far end where we sit to feel the sun once again to the side of our home...

Jane S, glad the saga of your car is now out the way, and you have now been reunited with each other again....I know how it feels when you have an old car that you trust and is reliable as I miss my old Corsa that I watched getting  towed away to the breakers yard, on the back on that truck a few years ago...that car was a good 12 or 13 years old too..I felt so comfortable driving that old car....

Amy

Good morning everyone.

Great sleeping weather here too last night. I hope today's weather is cool like yesterday's. Nothing planned for today other than carry on cleaning and hunting dust bunnies. I need to weed the vegetable garden but that may wait until this evening.

Hal, I never helped with corn but did with wheat.. A neighbour needed help and after my work was done I would go over and bring in the stooked sheaves (sp) with the buck rake bringing them to the combine. I baled some of the straw to bring home ,that had to be the nicest straw to shake out in the barn for the calves.

Jane, have a great day at work.

Still no sign of Gloria, I would be telling the computer people a thing or two. This has to be so frustrating for her.

Good to see Lloyd pop in..

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Sorry to complain but it was not a good night for me.  Woke up several times and finally gave up and got up at 2:30.  I'll try to catch up today but the plumber will be here....sometime.  Our struggle with fixing the leaking toilet has not been successful so I gave up and decided to let an "expert" look at it.  At least I hope he is an expert.

Take care, All.

Phyllis, don't worry I shall now join you in your " complaining..." well after all this wait for Blue Badge to arrive...letter just dropped through our post telling me.....quote, " unfortunately the photograph you have supplied is not suitable as it is not of a sufficient quality for us to scan and use on the badge..." So now we have to drive out to find a passport photo booth....it has taken longer for them to inform me of this, than it has for the Blue Badge to actually arrive ....I am now not a happy bunny, just more added stress....now another week or two to wait, and to think I-we had plans to take our Benji somewhere nice while we still have him....a woodland walk with disabled parking at the entrance... >:(

JoanFL

Good morning, Janie.  Thanks for your appreciation.  That will be nice if your friend from California can come for a visit.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  It seems when you get things these days there's many layers of packaging.  After your struggle getting the chairs unpacked, I am sure you enjoyed sitting in one and catching the suns rays.  Sorry about the snafu getting your disabled tag.

Good morning, Amy.  You're going to clean and chase dust bunnies?  That's w---.  Guess I'll have to get the demerit ledger out.:)

Lloyd--Good morning.  Our temperatures are about like yours.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Sorry you didn't sleep well last night.  Sorry your "fix" for the toilet didn't work.  Hopefully the plumber won't charge you an arm and a leg.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another very hot day here in South Carolina, predicted to get to around 98 degrees.  I will make a quick trip to Walmart after the pharmacy opens at 9 am to pick up a prescription for Pat.  We may get out this evening to go to dinner.  I think tonight we will try a Chinese place that is new to us but Scott said he thought it was good.  This is the day we look forward to all week as we will get to spend several hours with Scott later today and share our evening meal with him.

Yesterday Pat fixed a very delicious Banana and Strawberry bread and I just had a slice of it for my breakfast. The chair lift tech arrived when he said he would and spent about 90 minutes on the chair.  He replaced the internal working parts of the chair and hopefully that will solve the problem of the batteries not charging due to faulty contacts.  The replacement included a different type of contact that has springs to assure contact with the metal rail that is needed to recharge the battery. This is a good company and they have been very responsive to our needs including making two 90 minute trips from their headquarters to our home without additional charge.

Joan, the house we had before we moved here was about the same size as yours and it took the two ladies who worked as a team at least two hours to clean the entire house, except usually not the upstairs bedroom, which was seldom used. This house is a little bigger but the lady works so quickly that she is able to do it in around three hours.  She is willing to do whatever Pat asks her to do including the windows.  We, of course, paid her a little extra when that job was completed.

Amy, glad you enjoyed working on the farm.  That wasn't my experience and couldn't wait to get away from the dairy 365 day per year responsibility plus the other farm work.  I knew early on I was going to earn my living with my head and not my back.  I felt so strongly about getting away that I went through college in three years but taking the maximum allowed hours in the summer sessions.

Hal, let me assure you that you didn't miss any "pleasure" by not getting to help bale hay.

JeanneP, your car should have many more miles of service to give you.  I find paying for occasional repair work, as I did this last month on my PT Cruiser, is preferable to taking on car payments. You have Pat beat with three crock pots as she only has two.

JaneS, I understand about the reasons for your delay in getting the A/C fixed.  Are property taxes high where you live?

Callie, Pat would agree with you on not wanting to have a toaster oven.  She uses it almost everyday including making toast.  I think ours is about ready for replacement as have had it for many years.

Jackie, it sounds like you about did yourself in unpacking the furniture.  I hope you will enjoy having it on your patio.  Sorry about the blue badge problem and hope it is soon resolved.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  Normally I do errands on Wed. but it's so hot and humid I'm putting it off until tomorrow.  It's so nice that you get to spend time with Scott.  Your housekeeper was be a very fast worker.  Glad your lift got fixed.

Good Morning Everyone!

Looks like another hot day in store for us here.  In the 90's all week and no real rain in the forecast, just the usual maybies.

I had a great experience yesterday.  My plumber showed up 'early' but called ahead to warn us, got here as he said he would and went directly to work after I showed him the jobs (three of them) and the young man certainly knew his business and was efficient, clean and thorough.  He got all the jobs done in, what I consider, record time. And well under what I had thought the bill would be.  He will be back this afternoon to change out the faucet outside, to a different on.  He apologized because he thought he had the right one on his truck but didn't.

Well I don't have taxes due but the insurance on the house and cars come due the first of next month.  Ouch!  Seems like it always something.

I am still envious of all of you that has a good source for fresh veggies.  You would think we would since many garden crops are grown in our area, but the only so called farmers market is folks who sell some veggies they grow in their home gardens but think they are priceless family heirlooms.  But guess people pay the price.

Nothing much on tap her for today.

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Feeling a bit  :tissue:  this morning because I no longer have a granddaughter living across town.  Yesterday afternoon,  Miss Ellen posted  "Goodbye Oklahoma City.  Hello, Tulsa" as she was on her way to live there for the rest of the summer.
Rehearsals for "Will Rogers Follies" have already begun and rehearsals for "Oklahoma" begin this Saturday.  She expects to begin working next week  at the clothing store to which she was transferred from her job here.

Hal,  the produce manager at a grocery store I frequent said he had noticed that a lot of the fresh things at our Farmers' Market come from the same sources he uses.  It's also become more of a Crafts sale.

Joan,  I sympathize with the lady who had her cart "taken over" because I always try to get one from the parking lot cart return to use walking into the store.

The Project du Jour is to bake cookies for Bridge club tomorrow.  We meet at a restaurant but the hostess brings something for dessert that doesn't require dishes or silverware.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Halkel, those kind of plumbers are worth there weight in gold, when you are lucky enough to find one...one you will be more than happy to call back gain, as and when needed...just hope not too soon... ;)

Larry Hanna, I see you also had a punctual worker come fix your stair lift...isnt it a pleasure when workmen turn up on time...sounds like another good company to be highly recommended.....
........................
Well just done a trip into Weymouth, a busy touristy seaside town....full of side turnings and an old tram-line that thankfully is not now in use, but R got me nervous when we drove on it...No place to park so I nipped into photo shop, place was empty so it was a quick in, sit down, face the camera, choose my photos, a very friendly shop owner, a quick chat, paid the money, as all done in a few seconds - minutes....all this while R was sitting outside watching out for those traffic wardens prowling the streets...The passport photo with their accompanying letter is now in the post box on its way back to Blue Badge distribution office....

Have  read all your good messages.Had an early bed time , and an early rising. A nice young man, accompanied by one of our lovely nurses were at my door about 6:30 am to take a blood test. I had one at the doctors office a little over a week ago, but she will be downstairs today, so must have wanted an update. I see her at 4 p.m.

My left foot and lower leg are not operating properly today. They say ouch when I walk. With my clogged arteries it is hard to guess why, so I will just accept and do the best I can. I do want to limp down to Bible class at ten a.m. and while I am there I had better have lunch. Then I can come home and collapse till four o'clock. We have a couple programs early afternoon I would like to attend, but the body rules, and I will comply.

Weather here will be lovely today, 85 degrees. If I were still in Hemet it would be 10 degrees higher. I'm glad I am here.

Callie, I know you will miss having Ellen closer to home. Texas is not too far away, and she is a sensible young lady, doing what is necessary for her career, and I know you will encourage her.

Hal, we have a counter here in the big dining room, that is open 24/7 containing bananas, apples, and oranges. plus jars with nuts, raisins, and a couple other things to snack on. Tea bags, powdered hot chocolate mix, are always available. And during dining hours, the salad bar contains almost all fresh veggies and canned fruits and canned veggies. Another big rack with all the boxed cereals there are, and when the dining hours are open you can request milk, ice cream, jello, puddings, to take home. I'm glad I have a kitchenettte with a small refrigerator/freezer. Plus a microwave, sink, and cupboards. Not enough to really cook, but enough for goodies. I also have counter space for A small toaster/oven, elec. coffee pot and elec. can opener.....which I seldom use.

I am extra glad I live here. The only service they don't have is dentistry and  eye care.

As long as we are here, let's dance.
