Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend, on this Father’s Day  There's a breakfast buffet to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Father’s Day” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Chuckles

The Right Choice

My 16-year-old brother, Ryan, was out late with friends one night. Suddenly he realized it was Father’s Day and he had neglected to buy a card for our dad. After much searching, Ryan located an open store, but was disappointed to find only two cards left on a picked-over rack. Selecting one, he brought it home and, somewhat sheepishly, presented it to our father.
Upon opening it, Dad read this message: “You’ve been like a father to me.”
He looked at Ryan, puzzled.
“Well, Dad,” Ryan tried to explain, “it was either that or the card that said, ‘Now that I’m a father too!'”

Food For Thought

For Dad

God our Father,
in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless those fathers, who have taken upon themselves
the responsibility of parenting.
Bless those who have lost a spouse to death ... or divorce
who are parenting their children alone.
Strengthen them by your love that they may become
the loving, caring persons they are meant to be.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen!

Thought of the Day

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.

Good morning everyone.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's !! I hope you get thoroughly spoiled today..

We are off to a car show later this morning. Love seeing all the cars that I grew up with. Notice I didn't say antiques. ;D

We put the a/c on yesterday and it will be on again today, temps in the 90's  a far cry from having frost a couple of weeks ago!! We do have a choice here , either freeze or fry.

Phyliss, that is a beautiful graphic!!

Jane good morning to you..

Joan thank you for breakfast, love a buffet as one can try a little of each.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Janie.  For sure TLH will spoil her "favorite" daddy today.

Amy--Good morning.  I like to look at older cars.  It used to be that each model had distinctive features so one could easily identify them.  These days they all look alike to me.  Enjoy that car show.

Good morning, and thank you, Amy.

Joan, I have always been interested in cars and driving.  I still love to drive but I can't recognize different cars anymore, either, so I don't bother.  I might remember the color but haven't a clue as to the make.  As you said, they all look alike to me.

I must call my son later today.  He is the only father left in my immediate family and he is a good one.  He has a wonderful relationship with his two sons.

Have a good day, all of the fathers and grandfathers here.

Good morning, Phyllis.  I really like your graphic creation we are using.  I will call my son later, too-----he's such a good Daddy.

Hi everyone.  This is one of the most beautiful summer morning anyone could desire.  It is 71 degrees, very low humidity and a light breeze with a clear sky.  Our high this afternoon will only get to 85 with it being around 80 when church is over this morning.  I am pretty certain we will be eating out after church today.  My son sent an e-card early this morning for Father's Day.  Unfortunately he will not be able to come out today due to his work schedule.
I plan on watching the golf tournament this afternoon after 3 pm.

Joan and Phyllis, that is a wonderful graphic for Father's Day.  I think I mentioned my step grandson being the father of a new baby boy.  Yesterday he posted some nice pictures and the one I liked the best was of him holding the new baby in his arms, looking down on it, while his wife looked on lovingly from her bed soon after the birth.  It brings back some wonderful memories of when our two children were born over 50 years ago.

Mary Ann, the year Pat was expecting our daughter she had been ordered to stay in bed.  We lived in Moore, Oklahoma and had over 30 days in a row of over 100 degree temperatures.  My grandmother can come to stay with us to help with our very young son.  We had no A/C and it was a miserable summer, especially for Pat and my grandmother.  I did have air conditioning where I was working at Tinker Air Force Base.  I also remember summers on the farm in Missouri.  I did not have a room of my own but slept on a daybed that was in front of a window.  It was OK with a fan blowing but the summers were brutal.  It was what it was and we all just accepted it as normal summer weather.  Believe me I am thankful for A/C.

Hal, I had similar experience with my A/C in Georgia.  My first thought was always that it was something major when it was just some little part.  I guess it is human nature to always expect the worst in situations like that.

Beverly, you are right in that I do feel the pacemaker/defibrillator has improved my quality of life.  Sure glad Chape got his pacemaker when he did.

deAngel, how old is Jesse?  I sure hope his mobility has been restored and that rehab will get him back to normal.

Phyllis, I am never out in the heat very long anymore.  It is the getting in a very hot car and waiting for it to cool down that gives me the most problem.  I am not complaining as we have it so much easier than what we have all known in your younger years.

Jackie, pets are very special to us and I feel sorry for those who have never had the opportunity to experience the love we get from our pets.  If we didn't care and love our pets so much we would not also experience the sacredness that comes when we have to say goodbye to them but they leave us with special memories.

Joan, hope you and the others living in Florida are having some of the milder weather.

Amy, it is a bit disconcerting when we think about things we have had all of our married life that now probably qualify or soon well to be considered an antique.  Certain days I feel like an antique myself but fortunately that is not everyday.  Hope you enjoy the car show.

Good morning, Larry. I don't remember reading that you had a new great grandson.  Congratulations.  The weather here today is a bit cooler and there is a breeze which makes it nice.

Good morning, Callie.

Well, I didn't get to church this morning.  I hope God will forgive me.  I did say a prayer or two and I took a short walk and enjoyed the pleasures of His nature and His weather.

I'm doing something that I detest sort of as a penance for not being able to do something that makes me happy all wee.  I'm organizing my bills for July.  UGH!!

I had thought about asking my neighbor if she'd like to go to THE FENCE for supper today.  Maybe I will anyway.  She can drive.

Enjoy your day!

Janie--I am sure God will forgive you.  Is "The Fence" a drive-in?

Gloria just called me to say her computer died again.  She's been on the phone with HP and they are sending her some kind of disc.

Hi June.

Good Morning Again, everyone!

Back from church and got to change my clothes, have to go back to church later to do the offering count, put on something that isn't dressy.

Janie, hopefully they will call early in the morning telling you the car is ready, just a minor problem.

Bless Gloria's heart, that computer is giving her a real pain and HP should know that to us older folks the computer is a lifeline to another world.'

My wife and I are going down to a neighborhood BBQ place for dinner later on, it shouldn't be too crowded and the food is pretty good.  They have really good Apple crumble pie, which I always enjoy.

Going to go watch some golf and get a snack.

Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers here and also to those who have acted as fathers when necessary.

At 12:30 PM it is already 90 degrees here.  We are going to be with family up at Hardy Dam, north of here near Newaygo, and I think there will be eight or ten total.  I am hoping to stay away from the sun.

Dot and I went to Mr Burger where we both had pie instead of hamburgers today.

halkel--Gloria also said that the cable was out in her area last night, so she had no computer and no TV.  Enjoy your BBQ dinner out.

Mary Ann--Gee, it's cooler here today than it is there.  That's unusual.  Enjoy your time with family at Hardy Dam.

Good morning everyone on this very cloudy Father's Day! I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday. Yesterday was bright and sunny and up to plus 84, just as they told us it would be. Today is back to clouds and every expectation of more rain. It's going to be the norm for the remainder of the month, however, we will be in the high seventies or early eighties so it will be harder on my arthritis.

We are getting all the Interior walls painted in late June and in early July, we are having all five floors newly carpeted. So it will be busy out there for awhile, but hopefully nicer when finished.

Kelly was out once before with a long absence and Sun was having both hands operated on with a brief intermission. It may very well be that neither is in shape to use  or needing a computer.

I think HP needs to send Gloria a new computer after this.

Farrah actually came out and enjoyed the opened balcony door yesterday, of course through the screen! She still uses odd whines and chirps but a good friend in Dearborn, says she is sounding like a Singapura cat, one of the smaller Asian breeds, while looking like an Abyssinian, another Asian breed.

angelface--Your place will be lovely after they get done with the redecorating.  I told Gloria she should ask for a new computer.  She said she did and they told her there was nothing wrong with hers.??  Farrah is getting braver and braver.

I was going to go pick strawberries tomorrow morning but with no car, that's out.  I though I wouldn't have any strawberry jam this year because this is the last week for strawberries.  However, I found a container of mashed strawberries in the freezer...just enough for one batch of jam.  So I'm saving money and time and getting jam.

Hal, it's already expensive for the car repairs.  He said the part he needed was only about $35. but that it was a two to three hour job.  I don't know if I'd rather have an expensive part that takes five minutes to install or a cheap part that takes an expensive mechanic three hours to install.  I think it might be six of one and a half dozen of another.

I hope Everyfriend's day is going well.

Thanks, Joan, they are saying there will be times we are unable to be out and about as well as times the elevators will be down, but they will be giving us early notices and be providing treats, cakes and pies in the first floor common room along with the 24/7 coffee we already have, for those braving the stairs or staying out of their apartments for the day.

I will probably just stay in if it's a long period at times.

Janie, sorry you will be stuck so long without a car. Do you have work transportation?

Don, I thought those went in first? :)

angelface--I guess when renovation is taking place, one can expect a little inconvenience.

Good afternoon, again another confortable day.  We do need rain.

Thanks Joan for letting us know about Gloria's problems with that new computer.

Larry, GS is 34,  He is still in ICU, I talk to him this afternoon, and they are letting him set on the side of the bed. He still does not have complete feeling in his leg.  Congrations on that new baby.

Sandy, the 2017 open will be in Southampton, just a few miles from me.  I was to the last two they had there, but I will not make this time.

Thanks Phyllis for that nice graphic.

Coming in late in a very busy day, but I wanted to wish all the Dad's a VERY HAPPY FATHER'S DAY and trust that there was lots of love and attention coming to greet you throughout the day!  I sent an email to my son at his new Military base in Korea earlier today and sure hope he received it.

Mohamed left to visit friends in Maryland earlier today, after a few days here getting used to our USA time.  He was able to spend the afternoon in Maryland with good friends, so that was a real pleasure for him.  Yesterday he had lunch with another local friend here and caught up on news, sharing some of the plans he has for the remainder of his University school year when he returned to Egypt on July 7th.  I've spent most of the day just "RESTING."  Having the Pharaoh in the house can be very tiring! ;)  He just called a moment ago to let me know that he had arrived safely AND to ask if I would like to live in Maryland again!  I have relocated so many times in my life that I surely do NOT want to move again!

Whew..it is 96 degrees and my AC has been working overtime. Tomorrow it is to be over a hundred degrees, then all of a sudden we shall drop back to our mid to high 80s.  I guess Mother Nature is telling us she is still in control of our comfort levels. I went to  a big lunch downstairs after our Church Services, then came home and changed to comfy clothes and just read and slept the rest of the day away. I will have a light supper at home and a good long walk if it cools down outside, otherwise I will walk the hall ways.

I am planning to do some type of volunteer work. We were given a sheet of paper to fill out for our volunteering. All I have so far, I join the choir and we haven't sung since Easter so I could only give four hours for that. I have been told we have to have a certain amount of hours for volunteer work in order to keep our "non-profit" status, and I find that is a worthwhile goal.  We are given so much here, it is my goal to give something back.

Hal, you are wise to be comfortable when you have the duty of money counting...it keeps you more alert. I did that for several years when I lived in Sierra Madre, and enjoyed the companionship of the dear lady in charge. She was a very special friend..long gone now. I am thankful to still be around and fairly active, but it saddens me to look back and find I am about the last of all those old friends. They were all older than me at the time, so I guess it is normal to have them gone, but still lonely.

Jeanne and all others...our Don and Bubble certainly made a big SPLASH with their announcement. I was not really surprised, just very happy for them.

I've been to check on everyone after a week in the high country of Colorado... couldn't help leaving a note for Bubble & Don but my brain is fried in this heat & just keep falling asleep.  I hoped to have some photos off the camera & posted to show y'all what cool beauty is ........ but camera still holding all pics.   :-[

Had a wonderful week with my sons & still amazes me that they can be so different & have had the same parents.  The saga of the RV goes on....  day or so before I left youngest son noticed the end cap of the awning was missing.... & the day before that oldest son had me open the awning to make sure it was okay.  I had opened a few weeks before after hard rains & we discovered the NEW party lights under the awning had quite a few of the lights not working.  That strip of lights had been replaced once before & only time had been on was when "they" showed me they then worked.  Anyway, knowing the RV company probably would not do a thing since I've passed my one year warranty, so I called the awning company.  They were very nice, must have had a lot of problems with awning & lights so offered to send both without charge (son says he can do the work).  Oldest son left the night before I did, youngest and I do not see well in the dark.  Mid way on the road we heard a noise.  Tom & Tiger loaded fine & I thought they must had made the noise, son was driving so I got up & looked everywhere but nothing out of place.  Hour or so later I go up to get a bottle of water out of the frig & the door came off in my hand!!!  The noise we heard was the whole latch snapping off... and we had not hit a bump or anything!  We pulled over & put something to brace it closed & headed on for the Walmart parking lot where we were to meet the older son.  Thanks goodness the evenings are cool out there because oldest son took one look at the door problem & insisted on fixing right then.  Boys (in their 50s) went into Walmart & came back with supplies, including a steel yard stick to put across the bottom where it had been plastic.  They came up with a hinge & whatever that works like the original only much better material.  I am going to yell about it with the RV people, I'm sure they have had lots of problems since they replaced that one plastic piece before for mine!  I took photos of sons working on the door in the parking lot... quite a few other RVs parked there so nobody paid attention to us, but sure hope everyone noted the maker of the RV, I would not recommend it to anyone.. EXCEPT... it is still the only one for the price that has the wooden sliding door to the bedroom where I can put the cats without making them stay in a cage when I get in & out!    Old LaurenKat hid in the basement so I left her home with plenty of water & food.... closed the door to "the west part of the house"... but she had a full basement & kitchen & family room upstairs to roam.  I do have nose prints on the window over the sink so she can still jump!

The boys & I ate more food than we should have, Mom insisted this was the best way to spend their inheritance~  great Italian in Salida, delicious Mexican in Buena Vista, & the dinner menu at Mt.Princeton Hot Springs Lodge (just down the road from where we camp)...was fantastic.  That's not counting the hamburger place in Salida that is so good even the locals stand in line a mile long to get their food.  What can I say, sinful... but oh, so good~ That's not even considering all the food I took to grill out & even a pork loin cooked that I saute'ed fresh mushrooms, onions in butter before putting the chunks of loin in & covering with mushroom soup to simmer until hot so tasted fresh.... had way more than we could eat so sent a big batch to the camp hosts & froze (frig & freezer works on propane... kind of nice!) a good size meal for oldest son to have when his wife got out the day we were driving back, we passed about mid-way.

I was disappointed that my old body did not adjust to the altitude to do any real hiking... but I stopped to take photos on the hike through the woods & did okay... little bouncing streams everywhere...  enough pics to paint from for the rest of my days.  I always take my favorites to have 8x10 prints made that fit the frames & mats that hang in the guest bathroom so everyone can see.... less than $3 at Sam's Club & they do a nice print.  I can use them to paint from when I get around to it.  Expect to get to painting with the summer heat already (& still not into July & Aug....) bet this will break the 1954 heat records but at least we have AC now.

Well, I finally faced the heat to put the jacks down & slide out so I can get stuff out... was dripping wet in just a few minutes so will work on that early morning.  I can't run the AC from the power cord to inside the garage... that plug in isn't rated for using that power... blew the fuse to the house (before I left) trying, I forgot.

I couldn't unwind last night so didn't go to bed/sleep until about 1:30 am... didn't make it to early Mass so went to 11:30 am & then to Sam's Club for the rotisserie chicken for the cats.  Miss Callie Cat (outside) & old LaurenKat were waiting for us when we got back yesterday... missing their people food.  They had dry food but not the same as all the fresh extras.

Tom & Tiger were pretty good in the RV but they spend several hours after midnight running around, know exactly how to get me up & chasing them, scratching or hissing or jumping at each other.  About time for me to get up they curl up & become perfect little angels.  I give them breakfast & they sleep all day.  At home I just let them go out when I go to bed & they are waiting at the bedroom door when I wake up. Such is life.

I have lots of photos of the campground... think it might bring back memories to anyone that ever camped.  Lots of trees & foliage and plenty of distance between camp sites.  Took one long hike across the road, back where signs of bear & cougar & lots of deer... but did NOT SEE a single deer.  That is shocking.  I didn't even see any of the gophers or ground squirrels & very few birds so was concerned about the wildlife.

Much too long but y'all can ignore me... I'm too tired & sleepy to proof & delete. Just realized I forgot to eat tonight... cut up a watermelon & ate some of that .... sweet dreams to all & to all, a good night!  God Bless and hope every Father had a wonderful day.  I sent e-mails to thank the fathers of my grands... Shirley

Tisi, your trip sounds great ! Will be looking forward to pictures. I had a call from my son....he said the drive they took between Bend, Ore. and McCall, Ida. was just beautiful. Everything was so green..quite a contrast from our brown/tan So. Ca. He said the highways were all small two lane and very restful.

I am going to go to an early bed. Took a very warm walk outside, so glad to be back in my cool rooms. Sleep well dear hearts, I send you Love, Prayers, Hugs and wishes for a nice peaceful sleep tonight. June

CHUCKLES

Baptism Class

Little Betsy had faithfully attended baptism classes. Her mother, wanting to be sure her daughter understood its significance, asked, "Honey, what does baptism mean?"

"Well, it isn't the water that makes you clean ..." she began.

Smiling, Mother thought, Yes, she understands, "... it's the soap."

Food For Thought

Foxtails
(By Michael Newnham)

The official plant of hell is the foxtail.

In case you don't have it where you live, it's a grass that produces sharp barbs which burrow into the flesh of animals as they walk through it.

Animals like my cat, Miss Kitty.

With each movement she makes the barbs travel farther and dig deeper.

Twice a day (at least) she comes walking in the house looking like a porcupine and I spend the next hour carefully trying to remove them from her long fur.

In a way it's become a bonding process for us as it hurts when I remove them...fur is often ripped out with Satan's flowers.

She has to trust that I'm doing something to help her, not to cause her more pain, though that is often the temporary result.

Our bond was put to the test this morning...I awoke to her sitting in my chair waiting for me to rise.

A foxtail seed had lodged in her eye and the eye had swollen shut around it.

It looked excruciatingly painful and it was.

The smallest of wings was still attached to the seed...if she would let me I'd have one shot to pull the thing out.

She would either trust me and let me try to remove it...or claw me to shreds for trying.

To my amazement, she stoically stood up and looked straight at me...and I plucked the seed from her eye.

She purred some thanks while cleaning the gunk from her eye with her paw.

Two things I learned this morning...

The world is like a field full of foxtails and as we go through it many barbs afflict us...some fall off, some burrow down and cause constant pain.

Sometimes we need someone else to remove them for us...we can neither see them, nor reach them, but we can surely feel them.

Thank God for those who you can trust and who love you enough to try to remove them.

The second thing is sometimes those barbs stick in a place so sensitive that only the Master can remove them.

Everyone can see the barb and the wound, but the risk is too great to remove it.

It has to come out.

The wound has to heal lest you lose vision and perhaps even life.

It takes great trust to allow Him to work.

Do it anyway, even if it causes temporary pain.

He loves you even more than I love my cat...consider it a bonding process.

You can be healed...

Good Monday morning Everyfriends.......a very wet and grey start to our day, rain is pelting down....

Just typical really as our deck-patio wicker furniture is due to arrive today...so is our comfy office chair, both from different company's....decking furniture will have to stay wrapped and under cover as of yet I haven't found suitable outdoor armchair waterproof covers to order.....Hope your weathers are faring better than ours.....

Oh R just took a phonecall from decking furniture guys, said they are at the parksite gates, so almost here....they are here...

Edited..oh what a nice man NOT...I watched the drivers expression as he took one look at the concrete steps to our back and the gate to our decking, he put the large boxes down with Rs help carrying them, then abandoned the moving and left R to do it himself....of course R struggled doing it without complaining about the driver, and ignoring me complaining about him, so I left him to it......." what a nice driver he was..." NOT...well thats one driver that wont be getting a tip from us....guess he spotted me at the back door and thought she will be able to give him a hand, well he thought wrong...and to think he looked a young, fit and healthy guy...just couldn't be bothered to place the boxes on the decking where they were meant to go......The only way R could get the boxes through the gate was to take the inner packaging out from the large outer packaging box....if the man had stayed to help they could have lifted the boxes over as they were...

We have managed to cover them with a waterproof cover, a cover previous owners left behind with the white rusty metal bench, just about fits over the two large cardboard boxes, so glad I didn't throw that cover away...the seat covers are in the kitchen, the other " table " box is left ontop of the outside bench, part under cover so should be ok....

Good morning everyone.
Another blistering hot day in the making here. We had a nice visit with son and daughter in love at the car show yesterday. All that eye candy parked row by row chrome gleaming in the sun and not one speck of dust on the body of the cars or trucks. One car was worth $200.000.00,I said you could buy a house with that amount!!

We are back to the city for hubby's appointment, then to Costco to see if they can fix his eye glasses.

Jackie, that was not nice of that young man to do that. He should have helped put the furniture in place. I did have something similar happen though. Our cookstove (cast iron) was being delivered and the one man said to the other shouldn't we get more help to put it in the house and the other said ..no,she is a farm woman she will do it....and I did.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Amy, hm, not sure if that was an Insult ( which it was, ) or meant to have been a compliment of your capabilities......shame on that man for assuming you could cope without them...I wonder what thoughts of that man, the other " nice " man had of him, after hearing that from him...I am assuming he thought..." not a pleasant man, I pity his wife or girlfriend..."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm waiting for 8 a.m. to call the garage and I've decided that if they tell me my car was ready on Saturday and I know no one called me, I'm not going to rant and rave.  But I will make sure that I don't trust them to call the next time.

Shirley, I was wondering about you.  I guess I missed the posting that said you were going to be camping.  I'll be waiting to see the pics too.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  That deliveryman was LAZY.

Amy--Good morning.  They sure do have some costly cars at those car shows.  Go safely on your travels today.  The deliveryman you encountered was just plain rude.

Good morning, Janie.  The car repair people SHOULD have called you Sat. if it was ready.

My new cleaning duo comes for the first time this morning.  I hope they do as good of a job as my former housekeepers.

Hi everyone.  It is a cool 61 degrees this morning but headed up to around 90 degrees this afternoon.  There is zero chance of rain today.

This morning I have a 9 am appointment to get the oil changed in our Hyundai Sonata.  They said it would take about an hour and the place is only about 20 minutes from here.  Then at noon I have my Monday meeting.  That will be it for today and will stay in where it is cool the rest of the day.

Yesterday was a wonderful day both weather wise and also at our church.  Following the service we went to a favorite place and Pat and shared a club sandwich and a serving of potato salad.  Pat had ordered this sandwich a couple of weeks ago and had to bring half of it home so we decided we could have a good lunch by splitting an order.  It was delicious.

Later in the afternoon I watched most of the golf tournament until the 6:30 news came on but checked later and found the man leading most of the day yesterday ended up with a decisive win. I looked up what the prize money was for the U. S. Open and found this:  The total purse for this last weeks event was $10 million.   Dustin Johnson got $1.8 million for the win and the second place finisher got over $1 million.  All players making the cut got some money with the last place finisher earning over $22,000.  However, golf is a tough sport and players at this level really have to play a mental as well as physical game.

Joan, the great grandson really is not a blood relative.  Our son met our step-grandson when his mother was 6 months pregnant.  They eventually married and our son was a father to the step-grandson for the first four years of his life.  At that point our son found his wife was unfaithful and they divorced. However, we have always considered the young man as our grandson and thus his children (he has two) we consider as great grandchildren although we have not stayed close.  Life can get complicated sometimes--believe I know.

Joan, that computer certainly has been a pain for Gloria.  Perhaps the disk will have the repair tools needed to make her computer work correctly.

JaneS, I understand that the garages usually use book rates for repairs so even if the work is done in less time than the book says you still get charged for the book rate labor hours at whatever rate the individual garage charges.  Hopefully the charges won't be too high.

deAngel, your grandson is still a very young man to have such a serious condition.  Do they have a good spinal center rehab near where he lives? I hope he can have a full recovery with rehab.

Molly, sounds like a very wise decision to not want to move again.  While sometimes it seems necessary but at our ages it is most difficult. I hope you have a day or two to rest while Mohamed is in Maryland.

Sandy, while you miss the crowd excitement of personal attendance, you have a much better view of the golf match from the comfort of your home.  You don't get to see instant replays at the course.  :)

June, I have never heard of resident in a retirement community being expected to do volunteer work.  However, I am sure you will do your part to the extent you are able.

Shirley, glad you are safely back but what a time with your RV.  I have never heard of a refrigerator door falling off.  It sounds like the RV manufacturer saved a few too many pennies in the manufacturing process.  However, it sounds like you managed to have a great time.

I have had some issues with my computer
that AVG has come in and fixed  for me.
Cleaned up a virus or two that caught
me.    All is well now and I am back
in good shape.  (My fault because I
downloaded two conflicting programs.
I will have to be more careful the next time)

The US Open was a long one because
they had to fit four days into three days
due to weather issues.     Phew..  All over
now!

Have a good day,  everyone

Good Morning Everyone!

Well my saga about the a/c.  Came back from church yesterday morning and neighbor told us that our a/c had been making a racket.  Called Vic and ask him to drop by today and check it.  He came yesterday instead, he was going to be of town today, brought his new (new to us) we hadn't met his wife since his previous wife had died some years back.  Anyhow, he checked and the good news, you listening Larry, the compressor is going.  But he said that it may last a year or more (of course it may not), but it wont take long to do the job if and when it goes and he got all the information so he knows what to get.  Seems that our wonderful government has changed the type gas used which will cause him to have to change out the expansion valve inside.  OH, how wonderful government is to worry about us, like they do.

Larry, Sandy, Mary Ann, yesterday was a real embarrassment for the USGA on not being able to make the penalty call on the putt.  The winner did a super job holding it all together under the circumstances.  I had to laugh though, the winners wife wore the tight fitting, short dress and then I think regretted it they way she kept pulling on it.  :D

Janie, I do hope they called you and the news was good.

Got to go move my water.

Bis, I have sent todays chuckles off to my Gary and another member of his Church..they will appreciate it, as I did.

Jackie, I would call the company you bought the furniture from and tell them what the delivery men had done. They should be responsible for those whom they hire. Plus you could also vent to the owners who hired these men to work for them.

Amy,  another couple of men that should be fired from their jobs.

Larry, I may have been unclear in my post. Rowntree does NOT require us to do volunteer work. It is entirely up to us. When I heard the reason for the need of volunteer hours to keep our status of being a non-profit organization, I wanted to do do something to help that happen. I have been thinking this morning of being a visitor to the patients at our extra care facility. I could read to them, sing old songs with them, or listen to them. As long as I would be free to do it when I choose to appear. I no longer want to report to anything at a certain time, unless I so choose to do so. Like a class of exercise, where I can be there or not..my choice.
In economic terms, a nonprofit organization uses its surplus revenues to further achieve its purpose or mission, rather than distributing its surplus income to the organization's shareholders (or equivalents) as profit or dividends.

Janie, Since your car repair person is a friend of your son, and if

I were you, I would call him back and tell him of your dental appt. and put the ball in his court. He may think you are just sitting around with nothing to do. Let him know that you have a life that needs attending to.

Hal, and if you were on welfare, our wonderful government would probably supply you with a New A/C, due to your supposed health conditions, and send you to a classy motel till the work has been done.

Time to make my bed and get dressed. I have had two cups of coffee and a sweet roll. I will devour a banana between now and lunch time. My A/C is doing the job already and I have it set on 80. We are to have 103 degrees today. ho-hum......

Sandy--At least your computer is now clean and up and running.

halkel--Hopefully your a/c will hold up for a long time, and when it does choose to give up it won't be when the weather is torrrid.

JeanneP--My house is just average.  1,850 sq.ft., 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, double garage and screened in porch.  They don't chat at all--busy cleaning every minute they were here.

June--I'm glad you shared the Chuckle.  I keep my a/c set at 73°--any higher than that, and I can't breathe well.

Junedrabek, Oh I would like nothing better than to tell the company about their outside transporting company they are using but...as usual R will have something to say to me if I go ahead...he will not be pleased with me..he will just see it that I am making trouble....even though he wasn't happy with it himself...but he of course will never admit that...It was just the one man who delivered...

Now as for the office chair delivery man, he couldn't have been any more helpful in offering to take off the wrappings for us.....Of course driver was from John Lewis, a company you-we can trust....
.........................................
Today I must have done one of the longest walks I have done in yonks....I often walk down our parkhome slope to the bottom, either turning right or turning left to walk through a gangway opening but, usually stop at the far end...only this time my right leg felt pretty good so myself and R ventured uphill, a quiet lane, very muddy with uneven potholes but I ventured as far as I dared to go knowing I have to get myself back home again....I got up so far till I could see through a large gap the sea and spotted a cargo boat in my view....I not only surprised R but also surprised myself on my walking but...I really did struggle with that last uphill walk to our home, then when I got inside I had to sit down, then after a short rest I got up and had to sit straight back down as my rather heavy legs became so weak, weak to the extent I was ready to collapse....after a long sit down I was ok when I got up to walk again, I knew that walk would take its toll on me, and it did just that... but boy, did it feel good to have ventured out as far as I did....

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Callie, I thank you for making potato salad...one of my very favorites. I am heading for the hidey hole with my plate and a fork.

Jackie, I think it is very kind of R. to go walking with you. There are few men that would want to take the time and patience to do so.

Bis, I did have to turn my AC down to the low seventies for a while yesterday. But so far, it is fine at 80. I miss the central type of conditioning we had at Sunwest. A window unit is not as thorough in my opinion, but that is what we have and I am thankful for it.

I have only one thing on the docket for today. The movie Blue Hawaii will be shown on the big screen at  1:30, so I will go down for lunch, then on to the movie. They show mostly old movies, which I do enjoy, and I seldom saw any of those..busy raising little ones.

We are celebrating Hawaii all week. On Thursday there will be a luau lunch out in our Courtyard along with entertainment by Mahana Polynesian Entertainment. I am not familiar with this at all. I understand it is something they have once a year, and I know it will be enjoyable. Hopefully the weather will have cooled down by then.

Patricia, it looks like you have a balcony for your greenhouse. I had a nice balcony when I lived in Hemet. Here they enclosed all the balconies and made another room for us...This is where I have my computer, second desk, and book cases.

Junedrabek, yes I so do agree with you on this one...I have never known R to turn me down although there was one time I said something he didn't like and he walked off away from me, left me to fend by myself... then stood there watching me when I couldn't move by myself, ( this was uphill, our private road in and out ) then when I said something to him he came back to me, just that there is an element of cruelty in him...but otherwise he is always willing to walk with me....

June, I did call them back and they were just finishing up.  Turns out it wasn't as expensive as I thought and they sent a guy out to pick me up and take me in there to get the car.  The A/C still isn't fixed but I was able to use the "natural" A/C and I made it to the dentist about 15 minutes early.  Now I'm off to the Amish grocery store to replenish some of my staples.

Patricia, I like the fact that you will have space inside for you greenhouse. It would be essential for winters weather. My apartment does not have an inch of spare space, but I can live with that.

Jackie, I am happy for your ability to walk with R., and his willingness to do so. Walking off and leaving you was not kind at all. You must have been terrified. I have had moments of fear of falling when I decided I did not need my cart, and that type of fear is paralyzing. R. must have recognized that and came to your rescue.

Janie, Good News for you. Hopefully your weather will remain cool enough to use the natural outside air. What have your highs ever reached ?

June, Joanie, I hope the a/c last until fall or wintertime.  I don't want any repairman having to go into my hot attic to do any work.

Jackie, the guy that delivered your yard furniture is just plain lazy.  And should be reported.  No reason he couldn't have done his job.  If I had been R I am afraid I wouldn't have lifted a finger.  You paid for the service he didn't provide.  But then that is me.

angelface--I do live alone.  Most houses in this gated community are about the size of mine.

Vanilla-Jackie--At least the office chair delivery went well.

Callie--I LOVE potato salad.  Thanks for putting some in the hidey hole.

June--Enjoy the movie today.

Janie--So you have to take the car back to get the a/c fixed?

halkel--I wouldn't want anyone to go in my attic to work in this heat either.  A couple weeks ago the cable TV repairman told me it gets up to 130° up there.

Halkel, in all fairness the delivery was free, but that doesn't excuse idle driver man...I am sure he heard me yelling out to R'...." is that where he's left it, call him back..." he must have been in earshot as I repeated it several times but as usual R said nothing and struggled by himself to do it, ignoring what I was saying....

Joan, I believe it was June asking about your house size, or perhaps Jeanne?

June, this apartment has five rooms, two good sized hallways, and three good sized walk in closets, as well as a 4'X5' balcony and I have been ridding myself of so much"stuff" since I moved here in 12/13.

Joanie, I'll have to take it back to get the A/C repaired.  However, nowhere I go is very far and even when I had it, it wasn't very cool before I got there.

June, all this week and into the weekend, it's supposed to be in the high 89s to mid 90s but as I said, I don't travel very far so I probably won't even miss it.  It's has to be inspected sometime before the end of July so I'll see what happens.  We've had some summer days in the triple digits in the past but not a lot of them.

Baptism

Recently my 7-year-old son was baptized at nearby Lake Tahoe. With tears streaming down my face, I watched as he came out of the water, then excitedly asked if he felt any different.

"Yeah, Mom, I do," he replied. "Now I have water up my nose!"

BLESSED are the husband and wife who continue to be affectionate and considerate, long after the wedding bells have ceased ringing.

BLESSED are the husband and wife who are as polite and courteous to one another as they are to their friends.

BLESSED are they who have a sense of humor, for this attribute will be a handy shock absorber.

BLESSED are they who love their mates more than any other person in the world and who joyfully fulfill their marriage vows of lifetime of fidelity and mutual helpfulness to one another.

BLESSED are they who attain parenthood, for children are a heritage of the Lord.

BLESSED are they who remember to thank God for their food before they partake of it, and who set apart some time each day for the reading of the Bible and for prayer.

BLESSED are those mates who never speak loudly to one another and who make their home a place where "seldom is heard a discouraging word".

BLESSED are the husband and wife who faithfully attend the worship service of the church and who work together in the church for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom.

BLESSED are the husband and wife who humbly dedicate their lives and their home to Christ and who practice the teachings of Christ in the home by being unselfish, loyal, and loving.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Joanie, do you think there is a husband and wife in existence who have attained the living of those Beatitudes?  It's ideal but not very common.

We were awakened at about 4:15 this morning by thunder.  Mickie hides on the floor in a corner and Annie plasters herself to me.  I suddenly remember that I hadn't covered the porch furniture or closed the windows on the car.  So guess what?  I got wet.  We all went back to bed but we didn't sleep.  Gonna be a looooong day!  It did, however, cool the temperature down a bit.  Right now it's 68 and only going to 82 today.  Not so bad!

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning everyone..

Robins are singing, wish they would whisper at this hour! We had two rains last night both a heavy down pour and not lasting very long...but any amount is welcomed.

We got all that needed to be done yesterday and high tailed it home...gosh it was hot in the city! Hmm think there is a song in that.

Jackie,I waned that cookstove so bad that I think I would have brought it in myself!! I love the heat and enjoy cooking off one.

Good morning, Janie.  No.  I don't think there is a husband and wife who have lived those. Sorry about the sweet doggies waking you do early when it stormed, but at least it cooled things down a bit.

Amy--Good morning.  I was thinking about Lloyd, too.  I hope he is OK.  Hopefully we will see Gloria back soon.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, Lloyd may still be busy haying. It can be a long, tiresome, dirty chore.

Got the yard man coming sometime today and a plumber coming this afternoon, my backyard seems to have a growing problem.  It has decided it wants to grow more than the front.  Guess the front needs something.

You all talking of your rain, wish we cold get a good shower or two.  But getting into our part of the year when the highs take over and all it does is stay hot and dry.  But I am not going t gripe (too much) we have had a nice spring and we will have only a few months of summer time heat, September things will start to cool and maybe some good rains.

Hope all of you have a good day.

Good morning.  I miss Gloria, Sun, Kelly, and Lloyd, too.  I hope they are well and will be back with us soon.

David and I have been pre-occupied with a persistent and annoying problem with 2 out of the 3 bathrooms.  Heard a leaking sound but couldn't track it down because it was not steady...just random.  Finally isolated it and, hopefully, fixed it.  At least, I haven't heard it since we did the fix.  Jane, I'm sorry about your car problems but I respectfully ask that you don't send them on to me.  I have had enough problems for awhile!   :banghead:  ;)

deAngel....I hope your Jesse will progress with his therapy very quickly.  I know it has been a worrisome thing for you and all of your family.

Cloudy here today but supposed to be hot again and humid.  I'm staying home.  :hot:

Ok Phyllis, I'll keep my car problems if all of you keep your central A/C problems.  I sure don't want that one.

I'm hoping that by the time I get home from work, all those zzzzs that I lost in my bed last night will have found their way to the couch in the living room.  I'm sure planning on soaking up a few (or a lot) of them this afternoon.

I'm off to Wally World.  Make it a good day, Everyfriend!

Good morning, halkel.  I, too, wish we'd get some rain.  The few showers we've had haven't lasted more than 15 min.  Here things don't cool down until late October or early November.

Phyllis--Good morning.  Sure glad you and David found the plumbing problem.  That saved you $$$ not having to call a plumber.

Janie--I'd be willing to bet all those lost ZZZs will be in your couch waiting for you when you get home from work.:)

Hi everyone on a bright, sunny Tuesday morning.  We are headed back to very hot weather as this afternoon we will get to 95 degrees.  I got a lot accomplished yesterday morning while it was still reasonably cool.  I did get the oil changed, then went to the Credit Union to cash some checks, got my call filled with gas and got my medical tests scheduled for mid-July.  When I got home I had a call from the chair lift company saying they had also decided we had a lemon and so will be here this morning to replace the operating parts of the chair.  Hopefully this will fix the problem and we won't have a re-occurrence of the problem. That is pretty much going to be it for today as just plan to stay inside where it is cool.

Joan, my wife would like the housekeeper to be in an out in 90 minutes but the lady we have now does the job in about 3 hours and stays busy the full time.

Hal, not good news on your A/C.  The Government has control of about every phase of our lives.  Don't you wonder how the country ever got along before all of this control when we actually had to think for ourselves.  It seems that almost all mandated changes result in higher costs for the public.  I thought the head rules person had made the call on Johnson's putt.  It must be in the rules that such calls can later be reviewed and changed.  However, that doesn't seem fair to the players.  I was just glad losing the stroke wasn't a deciding factor in the outcome.

June, thanks for the clarification on the volunteer work.  I am sure many of the folks enjoy doing some volunteer work just as you indicate you do.

Jackie, good that you were up to a little longer walk and that you enjoyed it even if it left you very tired at the end.  I do pretty well on flat surfaces but inclines and hills are difficult.

Patricia, it sounds like you have a very nice sized apartment with some ample storage with three walk-in closets.

JaneS, do you not intend to have the A/C fixed in your car?  Glad you have your car back.

Good morning, Sandy.  Your part of the country requires different usage of heat/ac for sure.  Enjoy your walk.

Lloyd--Good morning.  It's good to hear from you and know you are OK.  I know you are working hard.

Good morning, Larry.  We've had a couple days with a brisk breeze, and that makes the torrid weather more tolerable.  The first six months I lived here I tried three or four housekeepers--all three just one person.  It took them about 4 hours to clean my house.  Then when I found the duo that worked for me for almost 7 years, they did it in 2 hours.   Now this new trio did it in 90 min.

Hal, I know all about that chore as I did it for 25 years!! I loved cutting raking and if the baler behaved I also liked that too. When I was done with the baler I would put it under cover and head back out to help bring the hay in. In between times I would get the meal ready and milk the cow before heading back out to help after supper.
Good to see you here Lloyd.....take it easy in that heat and drink lots of water!!

Amy, I never had the "pleasure" of hay baling.  Corn topping, bundling, and shocking the bundles and then hauling them to the barn was our thing.  Did help my Grandfather cut hay and hauling it for the live stock, one wagon load at a time.

Good Morning dear friends. Our weather prediction is for 84 as a high. I pray it is so. I would not want to go through another day like yesterday. It really took the spunk out of me. I even took a COLD shower.

There is some program titled Lunch with the Captain at our outdoor dining area. At 11 o'clock. I don't know who the captain is or what it is all about, but I do not feel interested at this time. I do hope to go to my Balance and Mobility class at 2:45. I still feel worn out from yesterday's heat. Not very inspired today, I'm afraid.

Time to eat some breakfast and hopefully get energized.

Good morning from the same old Interior, cloudy with a certain chance of rain.

Farrah has finally decided she's home, yesterday she walked onto my knees and bumped my hand for some petting and last night, warily moved to the end of the bed for at least a minute or two, She is affectionate, but still wary of sudden moves or unexpected noises. However, she has decided she's home and that's so much more than I or Pet Pride expected of her so it is a win-win in everyone's book!

Jane S.  My A/C on car is still not working either.  It is not low on Freon they say but the wiring. It is getting old also but I hate to part with it. A Honda Accord and even though old only has 79000 miles on it. I bought it new.  It is in the 90s out yet so waiting for it to cool down and then will take it someplace.

Angelface--That's GREAT that Farrah is "home".

JeanneP--Here it is so hot and humid that if I wanted to use my car, I'd have to get the a/c fixed asap.  Thanks for the tip but I don't have a toaster oven.

Hi June.

No toaster oven here either but I try to make use of my crock pot as often as I can in the summer.

Larry, I do intend to get the a/c in the car repaired but it's not top priority right now.  With property taxes coming up and having to use some of the savings there, I need to regroup.

I found a place close by to pick strawberries while I was on the way home from the Amish store yesterday.  They are open until 8 at night so I'll go find my zzzzs on the sofa and wait for the sun to sink a bit to the west and then I'll head out to the strawberry patch.  If I don't make it today, I'll go tomorrow. I called and she said, "the sooner the better" but that she expected to have some most of the week.

Keep cool!  Except for Junee!  I think she might be headin' into winter right about now.

Good Afternoon,

The only reason I went to the grocery store after my usual hair appointment is that I scraped the bottom of the jar to get enough peanut butter to put on my toast and didn't have another jar in the pantry.   :yikes:

Jeanne,  I couldn't do without my toaster oven!  I think it was a Miles Kimball catalog where I found baking pans that were toaster oven size.  I also have several casserole dishes that fit well.
Wish I could convince Miss Ellen that one would help her but she insists the microwave is all she needs.

Angelface,  so happy to read that Farrah feels at home now.   You were the perfect one to adopt her.

The very idea of baling hay makes me itch!   My Dad was not a farmer or rancher but we lived on a big acreage and had a couple of milk cows that I helped feed (well - at least, my Dad let me think I was helping  ;D).  I also learned to milk  - although I never could hit the cat's mouth like my Dad did.
Other than gathering eggs from the chicken house, I never did any other farm chores - nor did I want to learn.

I think I'll have a "leisurely" afternoon.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

My maternal grandparents had a farm outside of Montrose, Colorado and my paternal grandparents had one outside of Joplin, Missouri. The one in Colorado was mainly horses and sugar beets with the odd milk cow or mule thrown in. The Missouri one was more corn and more traditional.

I learned in both, to help herd the cows to and from the barn and how to milk although not well. I also made the mistake of sneaking out to watch them burn the hay remnants in Missouri and the killing, using hoes, of the hidden rats. Not a pleasant memory! In Colorado, we were playing follow the leader with all seven grandchildren when I slipped off the board in the grain silo and almost drowned in the grain. Also not a pleasant memory! All in all, I was better off not living on a farm!

In Fairbanks, we did have a very large home garden and my parents also hunted and fished to argument the food supply. The three of us girls were put to work in the garden, cleaning and preparing the fish and meat as well as the food preparations, canning, and preserving. Also, not what I enjoyed doing but it was expected. We wanted to go and play with the other kids and felt severely punished, but now I'm glad I had those experiences and knowledge.

When I introduced my cat Lily to my home
with my cat Percy having been there a few
months...

Percy went to hide in the bathroom behind
the toilet  and stayed there,  night and
day for four weeks.    (served him his food and
put a cat litter and water in there for him)...

I left the door open  and Lily (the new cat) took
over the rest of the apartment and we
left Percy alone.

Eventually,  on his own,  he came out and
joined the rest of us.  Then they both
ended up playing and sleeping on the
bed with me.

I am so happy to hear that your new
kitty is adjusting and enjoying you now.
It sounds like you have let him adjust
at his own speed,  and that seems to
be working out great for the both
of you.

Congratulations,

Like everything else. Once you have a Toaster Oven you find that you can't do without one. I have a small one and also a Convection oven both on counters. I use them a lot along with the  MW I have not had my big oven on for 2 years.  Also have the 3 size Clock pots but the small one I use the most.

Yes , I found the baking things for the Toaster oven. 6 hole cupcake maker. little roaster.cookie sheet. Cute.  The Convection Oven uses reg. size

My two cats Percy and Lily and now my

A lovely day in Hemet, no need for A/C at all. We were entertained today by a fellow from Long Beach that sells birds. He brought Seven of his birds for us to hear about and hold, I held a beautiful multi-colored Parrot. He had us hold our our hands, cradled, then he lay the bird on its back in our hands. That was a thrill. He had a huge bright blue Macaw, but it was not too friendly. two pure white birds..I don't know their title, or breed or whatever you call a birds heritage, and two darling pure bright yellow parrots. They were brothers. It really tempted to me to purchase  parakeet. We had several when the kids were little..very tame and easy to care for. One got outside and flew straight up into the sky, circled around. I stood out side with my hand raised and the bird..Tweety-Pie..came down and landed on my finger, and I took him back into the house. I still cannot believe the magic of that flight landing.

Oh! June. Get you a little bird.  I couldn't do without on in the house.  Use to have the big Parrots but now have a small one.  It talks up a storm. More than the others because I can keep a smaller cage by my lounge chair.  Quite easy to take care of. BUDGIES or a british Parakeet. Real easy. It would be my next one if I have to buy.

CHUCKLES

Supermarket Survey

One day Dr. Mike Wilson noticed an elderly lady slowly pushing a cart through the supermarket parking lot.

Ever courteous, he insisted on taking it over for her.

The woman struggled alongside, doing her best to keep up.

At the entrance, he said, "Here you go, ma'am," and gave her the cart.

Catching her breath, she said, "Thank you, but I was using it to lean on."

Food For Thought

The Holy Spirit as Seal

He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
In the ancient world, a seal was usually made by etching or carving the symbol or name of an important person on a piece of stone or other hard substance, and it was pressed into wet clay or soft wax to leave an impression representing that person. A sealed object or document conveyed authenticity, authority, and ownership.
In our reading for today, the apostle Paul uses the image of a seal to convey the Holy Spirit’s role in marking us with God’s ownership. In his sealing work, the Holy Spirit communicates deeply in our hearts that we belong to God and that nothing will ever separate us from his love (see Romans 8:35-39). The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives serves as God’s mark on us, as well as a guarantee that in belonging to God we will blossom and flourish as we grow in our walk with Jesus.
Do you ever feel lonely? Do you sometimes have doubts? Do you sometimes even wonder if God loves you? Take comfort and courage today in knowing that you have God’s seal on your heart; you have the Holy Spirit’s presence not only as a mark but also as an assur¬ance that he will never leave you or forsake you.
God, you have sealed our hearts with the Holy Spirit. In our fears and our doubts, may your Spirit speak to us and through us so that we may know and share the love of Jesus. In his name, Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special GOOD MORNING to you, Joanie.  Thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.

It was down in the low 60s overnight (good sleeping weather) and it's only going up to 81 today.  Not too bad for a June day.

My only plan for today is to put in my 4 hours at Wally World.  Then I'll be home to take care of the doggies and then off to the Farmer's market to see what I can get.  Sometime along the way, I'll probably catch a few zzzs on the sofa.

I talked to my friend in California yesterday and she's working on a trip home in late July.  It will be nice to see her again.  We always have a good time when she's here.  I get to visit all the old haunts because that's what she likes to do.

I guess I'm up early again today but that's OK because I went to bed a little early last night.  The doggies have already been out and now they're taking a little nap before bugging me for breakfast.  I'll be back later.  Have a lovely day, Everyfriend!

Joan, the smell of bacon has got me in....

Well our weather doesn't look as if it is going to match yesterdays weather, grey and damp, rain through the night, early morning.....After R went out to do his shop yesterday, I got myself busy unwrapping our decking furniture, took me absolutely ages....two part soggy, part dry, large corrugated cardboard boxes, with a smaller box inside, plus loads and loads of sellotape, plus plastic wrappings stuck to the outside of each wicker armchair...I had to take several sit down breathers, played havoc with my MS and body but, i got there in the end, and so worth it when I plonked my body down on the first chair complete with padded cushions, seat and backrest...By the time R got home I was sunning myself with some very strong heat...just the right time of day when the sun was in front of me going over our home...then it passes to the far end where we sit to feel the sun once again to the side of our home...

Jane S, glad the saga of your car is now out the way, and you have now been reunited with each other again....I know how it feels when you have an old car that you trust and is reliable as I miss my old Corsa that I watched getting  towed away to the breakers yard, on the back on that truck a few years ago...that car was a good 12 or 13 years old too..I felt so comfortable driving that old car....

Good morning everyone.

Great sleeping weather here too last night. I hope today's weather is cool like yesterday's. Nothing planned for today other than carry on cleaning and hunting dust bunnies. I need to weed the vegetable garden but that may wait until this evening.

Hal, I never helped with corn but did with wheat.. A neighbour needed help and after my work was done I would go over and bring in the stooked sheaves (sp) with the buck rake bringing them to the combine. I baled some of the straw to bring home ,that had to be the nicest straw to shake out in the barn for the calves.

Jane, have a great day at work.

Still no sign of Gloria, I would be telling the computer people a thing or two. This has to be so frustrating for her.

Good to see Lloyd pop in..

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Sorry to complain but it was not a good night for me.  Woke up several times and finally gave up and got up at 2:30.  I'll try to catch up today but the plumber will be here....sometime.  Our struggle with fixing the leaking toilet has not been successful so I gave up and decided to let an "expert" look at it.  At least I hope he is an expert.

Phyllis, don't worry I shall now join you in your " complaining..." well after all this wait for Blue Badge to arrive...letter just dropped through our post telling me.....quote, " unfortunately the photograph you have supplied is not suitable as it is not of a sufficient quality for us to scan and use on the badge..." So now we have to drive out to find a passport photo booth....it has taken longer for them to inform me of this, than it has for the Blue Badge to actually arrive ....I am now not a happy bunny, just more added stress....now another week or two to wait, and to think I-we had plans to take our Benji somewhere nice while we still have him....a woodland walk with disabled parking at the entrance... >:(

Good morning, Janie.  Thanks for your appreciation.  That will be nice if your friend from California can come for a visit.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  It seems when you get things these days there's many layers of packaging.  After your struggle getting the chairs unpacked, I am sure you enjoyed sitting in one and catching the suns rays.  Sorry about the snafu getting your disabled tag.

Good morning, Amy.  You're going to clean and chase dust bunnies?  That's w---.  Guess I'll have to get the demerit ledger out.:)

Lloyd--Good morning.  Our temperatures are about like yours.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Sorry you didn't sleep well last night.  Sorry your "fix" for the toilet didn't work.  Hopefully the plumber won't charge you an arm and a leg.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another very hot day here in South Carolina, predicted to get to around 98 degrees.  I will make a quick trip to Walmart after the pharmacy opens at 9 am to pick up a prescription for Pat.  We may get out this evening to go to dinner.  I think tonight we will try a Chinese place that is new to us but Scott said he thought it was good.  This is the day we look forward to all week as we will get to spend several hours with Scott later today and share our evening meal with him.

Yesterday Pat fixed a very delicious Banana and Strawberry bread and I just had a slice of it for my breakfast. The chair lift tech arrived when he said he would and spent about 90 minutes on the chair.  He replaced the internal working parts of the chair and hopefully that will solve the problem of the batteries not charging due to faulty contacts.  The replacement included a different type of contact that has springs to assure contact with the metal rail that is needed to recharge the battery. This is a good company and they have been very responsive to our needs including making two 90 minute trips from their headquarters to our home without additional charge.

Joan, the house we had before we moved here was about the same size as yours and it took the two ladies who worked as a team at least two hours to clean the entire house, except usually not the upstairs bedroom, which was seldom used. This house is a little bigger but the lady works so quickly that she is able to do it in around three hours.  She is willing to do whatever Pat asks her to do including the windows.  We, of course, paid her a little extra when that job was completed.

Amy, glad you enjoyed working on the farm.  That wasn't my experience and couldn't wait to get away from the dairy 365 day per year responsibility plus the other farm work.  I knew early on I was going to earn my living with my head and not my back.  I felt so strongly about getting away that I went through college in three years but taking the maximum allowed hours in the summer sessions.

Hal, let me assure you that you didn't miss any "pleasure" by not getting to help bale hay.

JeanneP, your car should have many more miles of service to give you.  I find paying for occasional repair work, as I did this last month on my PT Cruiser, is preferable to taking on car payments. You have Pat beat with three crock pots as she only has two.

JaneS, I understand about the reasons for your delay in getting the A/C fixed.  Are property taxes high where you live?

Callie, Pat would agree with you on not wanting to have a toaster oven.  She uses it almost everyday including making toast.  I think ours is about ready for replacement as have had it for many years.

Jackie, it sounds like you about did yourself in unpacking the furniture.  I hope you will enjoy having it on your patio.  Sorry about the blue badge problem and hope it is soon resolved.

Good morning, Larry.  Normally I do errands on Wed. but it's so hot and humid I'm putting it off until tomorrow.  It's so nice that you get to spend time with Scott.  Your housekeeper was be a very fast worker.  Glad your lift got fixed.

Good Morning Everyone!

Looks like another hot day in store for us here.  In the 90's all week and no real rain in the forecast, just the usual maybies.

I had a great experience yesterday.  My plumber showed up 'early' but called ahead to warn us, got here as he said he would and went directly to work after I showed him the jobs (three of them) and the young man certainly knew his business and was efficient, clean and thorough.  He got all the jobs done in, what I consider, record time. And well under what I had thought the bill would be.  He will be back this afternoon to change out the faucet outside, to a different on.  He apologized because he thought he had the right one on his truck but didn't.

Well I don't have taxes due but the insurance on the house and cars come due the first of next month.  Ouch!  Seems like it always something.

I am still envious of all of you that has a good source for fresh veggies.  You would think we would since many garden crops are grown in our area, but the only so called farmers market is folks who sell some veggies they grow in their home gardens but think they are priceless family heirlooms.  But guess people pay the price.

Nothing much on tap her for today.

Good Morning,

Feeling a bit  :tissue:  this morning because I no longer have a granddaughter living across town.  Yesterday afternoon,  Miss Ellen posted  "Goodbye Oklahoma City.  Hello, Tulsa" as she was on her way to live there for the rest of the summer.
Rehearsals for "Will Rogers Follies" have already begun and rehearsals for "Oklahoma" begin this Saturday.  She expects to begin working next week  at the clothing store to which she was transferred from her job here.

Hal,  the produce manager at a grocery store I frequent said he had noticed that a lot of the fresh things at our Farmers' Market come from the same sources he uses.  It's also become more of a Crafts sale.

Joan,  I sympathize with the lady who had her cart "taken over" because I always try to get one from the parking lot cart return to use walking into the store.

The Project du Jour is to bake cookies for Bridge club tomorrow.  We meet at a restaurant but the hostess brings something for dessert that doesn't require dishes or silverware.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Larry Hanna, I see you also had a punctual worker come fix your stair lift...isnt it a pleasure when workmen turn up on time...sounds like another good company to be highly recommended.....
........................
Well just done a trip into Weymouth, a busy touristy seaside town....full of side turnings and an old tram-line that thankfully is not now in use, but R got me nervous when we drove on it...No place to park so I nipped into photo shop, place was empty so it was a quick in, sit down, face the camera, choose my photos, a very friendly shop owner, a quick chat, paid the money, as all done in a few seconds - minutes....all this while R was sitting outside watching out for those traffic wardens prowling the streets...The passport photo with their accompanying letter is now in the post box on its way back to Blue Badge distribution office....

Have  read all your good messages.Had an early bed time , and an early rising. A nice young man, accompanied by one of our lovely nurses were at my door about 6:30 am to take a blood test. I had one at the doctors office a little over a week ago, but she will be downstairs today, so must have wanted an update. I see her at 4 p.m.

My left foot and lower leg are not operating properly today. They say ouch when I walk. With my clogged arteries it is hard to guess why, so I will just accept and do the best I can. I do want to limp down to Bible class at ten a.m. and while I am there I had better have lunch. Then I can come home and collapse till four o'clock. We have a couple programs early afternoon I would like to attend, but the body rules, and I will comply.

Weather here will be lovely today, 85 degrees. If I were still in Hemet it would be 10 degrees higher. I'm glad I am here.

Callie, I know you will miss having Ellen closer to home. Texas is not too far away, and she is a sensible young lady, doing what is necessary for her career, and I know you will encourage her.

Hal, we have a counter here in the big dining room, that is open 24/7 containing bananas, apples, and oranges. plus jars with nuts, raisins, and a couple other things to snack on. Tea bags, powdered hot chocolate mix, are always available. And during dining hours, the salad bar contains almost all fresh veggies and canned fruits and canned veggies. Another big rack with all the boxed cereals there are, and when the dining hours are open you can request milk, ice cream, jello, puddings, to take home. I'm glad I have a kitchenettte with a small refrigerator/freezer. Plus a microwave, sink, and cupboards. Not enough to really cook, but enough for goodies. I also have counter space for A small toaster/oven, elec. coffee pot and elec. can opener.....which I seldom use.

I am extra glad I live here. The only service they don't have is dentistry and  eye care.

Good morning from the not really changed Interior! I receive my house inspection sometime today and there was a group of young girls in the hall yesterday, washing down all the walls and door lintels in preparation for the painting starting tomorrow.

Farrah was kept busy all day watching the shadows under the door and listening to all the chatter. The conversations I overheard all day made it clear that they thought they were alone in the building!

In the common room downstairs, there is coffee or hot water, tea or those bags of instant cocoa,  24/7 and usually some type of baked goods, but I rarely spend time there. There are some, especially some men who seem to also be there 24/7 and I always feel sorry for them.

I used to have all the latest kitchen gear but I find myself slowly giving it all away. I tend to make everything up twice a month and then place in one or two cup freezer bags.  Meals are then a snap with a bag of meat, one of rice and one of peppers or onions and then spices.

I have an electric skillet, small slow cooker and one pot and one pan and even that is rarely used.

halkel--You were fortunate to find and good and reasonable plumber.

Callie--I know you will miss Miss Ellen.  If you have extra cookies, could you please put them in the hidey hole?

June--I hope your leg and foot get to feeling better.  Hope you can attend the activities you want to.

angelface--It's great that you like the place where you live so well.

Joan,  of course I'll put extra cookies in the hidey hole!  These are sugar cookies with the dough tinted watermelon pink.  The dough is chilling now but will be rolled and cut with a round cutter.  Each circle will be cut in half and have 3 miniature chocolate chips added before baking.  After cooling, the edges will be rolled in green frosting - and we'll have "Watermelon Slice" cookies!  How's that?

Edit:  This is the same recipe I cut out of a magazine several years ago:  http://allrecipes.com/recipe/11468/watermelon-cookie/ (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/11468/watermelon-cookie/)

June,  Ellen is in Tulsa - not Texas - so she's just up the turnpike in eastern Oklahoma.  .   However, I don't think she'll have time (or inclination) to come back very much and she fully intends to try her wings farther afield when these two productions have finished in September.  Angels have wings - and we must let them fly.   :smitten:

Callie--Thank you, thank you.  You are so clever to make cookies that resemble watrmelon slices.  I'll check the hidey hole a bit later.  By that time the cookies should be done.

Larry. I just cannot get in the mood to change cars. Use to be I would not keep one more than 4 years. Then it went to 7 years and now on this Honda Accord. I bought it new in l991 At a price of 21.300. and like I say just has 79321 miles on it. I make sure it has the best of service. I now only pay $298 a year to the insurance. If I get another car even used at my age now insurance goes up to close to $890 a year.  We pay now around $114 for license plate sticker. So take the price of it. Then the gas to run it. Average out about $400 a year to keep them service. Batteries, Tires.  People do not realize how much the pay just to own a car. I know people who go less miles than I do.

Been single now 50 years. I started out aiming not to have a Mortgage Payment, Auto Payments and stuck to it.  I was lucky to have good jobs before I retired at 62.  Still have the same house and would buy another new car when I could just pay cash difference. So I have had 5. First 4 before the Honda. For some reason I just don't get the thrill of driving a new car.  My children say  I am becoming a Miser.  Not true.  I spend money traveling and have made at list 14 trips back to UK and Europe. Covered most of the US states, Canada and Mexico. done cruises.  Etc.  So I tell people that remind me that my car is old.  and may be should be moving into a nice Condo and not having to worry about keeping house up . I tell them I prefer to spend money my way.

I'm "home again, home again, jiggety jig".  Today went pretty fast and my foot didn't hurt at all, thank you God (and Dr. Lillmars with God's help.)

Larry, the taxes where I live now are less than half what I was paying where I lived all the years my kids were growing up.  But my income is also a lot less than half what it was back in those years, percentage wise.  The taxes are still difficult to do.  I do have an ace in the hole.  Pennslvania has a property tax rebate for Seniors based on our income.  I get back about 25 percent of what I pay in.  And that is distributed right after July 1st so I should have it in time to augment my savings.  However, I was counting on it before the car needed service so I'm still a bit short.  I'll work it out, though.  I'm a survivor!  And the car A/C will wait until I'm ready to do it.

Now I'm going to go collect a few zzzs out of the sofa cusions and then go to the Farmer's Market close to closing time and hope for some markdowns.

I forgot who said it but the produce in our grocery stores is NOT what is offered at either one of the Farmers Markets here.  And it's definitely NOT what the Weaver family offers on Friday and Saturday.  And yesterday when I had occasion to travel some of the country roads within about 10 miles of my home, I encounterd no less than 8 farm stands outside barns and house along the road.  They were offering their produce at VERY good prices and VERY fresh.  The only time I don't feel lucky to live where I do is when I have to get to an airport...waaaaaay over there!

I went off this morning with Kelly
to do my weekly grocery shopping and trip to the Good Will ...     I packed up my
FoodSaver V2244 Vacuum Sealing System
and an Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker   and delivered it to my
Grand daughter Madison,  who has taken over
cooking for their family.

She has been doing this for a few months now  and is and exceptional gourmet cook.     She also recently gave birth to my Great Grand daughter, Ophelia.

I loved both the Vaccum Sealer and the Instant Pot
Pressure Cooker,  but I am not using them at this
time.     I also prefer a couple of pans and
my Panasonic Inverter Microwave.
Keeping is simple is  what I choose to do
these days and I am sure that the Sealer and
Cooker will get a good workout in their big
family.

All is well,  cool and rainy  (much needed)
here in Portland.

JeanneP, you remind me of a man who had coffee at the same time our group did in a nearby restaurant.  He did not smoke and I remarked that he probably had nothing to show for it.  He said he did; he was able to travel.  I had not worked long, nor traveled, but I think I could say the same for me in later years.  My car was 13 years old this year when I sold it to my great-niece.  My condo was paid for shortly after I moved here (35 years ago).  I retired at 62 also.  I am now old enough that I don’t want to travel much, however, I still am considering going to Indy this year.

Jane, I wish there were farmer's markets near here but since I no longer drive, I can't search for them.

We do have 3 farmers markets now started in town. Wed. Thur. Saturdays. Then can also find them with their roadside stall down in the Amish Area.  Some of them come up to the markets in town. Now Corn. Tomatoes, Watermelons. Lots of the farmers with have their trucks parked around town when it gets to August.  Little early yet for a lot of the things.

Jane S On taxes for Seniors. Here you deduct it from your payment prior to paying. I think there is some kind of a deduction you can request if income under a certain amount But younger people can get that also along with a deduction in Utilities etc.

Mary Ann. Maybe it will be cooler in Indy come fall. To hot for you to be heading that way now. Daughter just left for New Orleans with 3 other women . Asked if I wanted it but not in this heat. Don't like to travel much in summer.

I live in the midst of many farms, some of the many descendants of dust bowl farmers sent here by FDR. There are two summer farmer's markets as well as a special organic slash farmer's market that is indoors, year around and from local suppliers. There are no roadside stands although I have heard some of the Mennonites in Delta are petitioning to be zoned for some. Delta is twenty-five miles from here and is mainly farming.

I have a share in a local farm's products that I originally started from my last position before retirement. It's a paid selection, one of three options offered by Calypso and other area farms. And of course, after age 62, I receive a senior price reduction.

I also have good friends who supply me with lots of Alaska fish and game as I need to stay away from chemically processed foods, and they are always cleaning out their refrigerators it seems. So I eat well for so much less!

The hallways looked so clean this morning that I wondered if they had already begun to paint. It turned out to be from yesterday's cleaning crew who while very indiscrete in conversations, did a fantastic job!

It's 2:18 and the housekeeping inspection team hasn't yet arrived at my door.

Hello Friends - I'm coming in a bit late and several days behind reading all posts, but it's been a busy few days staying in touch with Mohamed and his health checks with our former 2 doctors in Maryland, and listening to his happiness in visiting several friends in the area where we used to live before relocating to NC.

ANGELFACE - I smiled when I read your post RE your paternal Grandfather in Joplin, Missouri.  My late Uncle George Smith was from Joplin and during Summer vacations, I joined his family from our home in Michigan when they visited his Mom and Dad (farmers) in Joplin.  I not only enjoyed the kid's fun we had with Cousins, but also learning how to help Grandpa  Smith do some of the field work.  Or at least I thought it was "helping" when he handed us rakes and shovels (small sized, of course) to help in the fields and huge yard near the house and barns.

JUNE - I also smiled when I read your comment RE Long Beach, CA.  After I graduated from high school, my Mom and I relocated to Long Beach while my Dad was stationed in the Army overseas.  I met a lot of young friends my age when we lived there, enjoyed the nearby Ocean and learned how to dance at a local military site.  That's also the area where I had my first Summer part-time job in a travel agency.

The mention of Mennonites called to mind the wonderful fruit and vegetable sites we shopped at in the Baltimore, MD area.  I lived in MD for long time before retiring years ago and usually made a weekly trip to the Baltimore shop weekly, especially in Summer.  A wide variety of fresh products always could be found there.

We had a bit of thunder and light rain earlier this evening.  Mohamed has been visiting in MD and called several times - once when the thunder was loud and he heard it!

JEANNEP - I smiled when I read your comments RE the car you have and its year.  We have a 1998 Nissan Maxima, which we bought when we relocated from MD to NC many years ago.  It runs beautifully and the Inspection fellow has told us repeatedly that that brand of car will be ours "forever" as long as we keep it checked a couple of times each year and have repairs made promptly when needed.  Mohamed just bought two new tires before he raveled to MD a few days ago and told me on the phone that the Nissan drives as thought it is brand new!

It's always a pleasure to keep up with news in the Soda Shop.  Enjoy the week everyone!

I am really tired tonight Feel stressed and don't know why. Saw my doctor today on a routine visit. She is going to add another B.P. med to my others. I forgot to talk to her about another med that needed a new  prescription..I think that's what has me stressed...angry at myself.

Callie, Sorry..I had a mind slip in turning Tulsa into Texas. You are so correct in our letting our young ones test out their wings. A Priest friend had it right when he likened our children to a beautiful Christmas tree ball, if we held it too tightly we crushed it.

Bis, my foot healed itself around noon time. My Dr. checked my feet and legs again today and said the blood flow was adequate, so I will stop thinking about it.

Molly, Long Beach was a beautiful city at one time, but it has changed a lot as it grew in population. Like many of our cities have done. I'm glad you knew it at that time.

Time to get ready for bed. Sleep well dear hearts. I pray you wake happy and healthy. God bless you all, with Love, Prayers and Hugs. June

CHUCKLES

Left Passenger Behind

A bus driver accidentally left a passenger behind after they had stopped for lunch. Wanting to apologize, the driver called the passenger on the phone.

"I don't blame you," the woman told him, "but I'm mad at my husband for not informing you that I wasn't on the bus."

Food For Thought

”Am I Really Forgiven?"
(By Micca Monda)

1 John 5:11-12b "This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life." (NKJ)

As a minister of the gospel, I'm often asked a reoccurring question: "How do I know that I'm really forgiven?" I always give the same answer to each person. However, it's not my words, thoughts or even my own opinion that I offer. I tell them what God's says about forgiveness.

"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9, NKJ) All those who have sincerely given their lives to God and trust Him alone for the forgiveness of their sins have eternal life. It's not a feeling. It's a fact that we must act on in faith.

My eldest son's father died when he was four months old. Two weeks before his accidental death, my husband purchased life insurance. I've always considered that money as a gift to my son and me from God, our Provider. Like any mother, I wanted only the best for my son. I chose to live on very little and place the insurance money in a CD under the name of our son so that one day he could go to college. That day arrived all too quickly.

I'll never forget my son's reaction when I gave him this gift. He was shocked and overwhelmed. Through the years, the amount had grown significantly. At first, my son had a hard time receiving the large gift. It was unexpected. He had not worked for it, nor did he feel that he had earned it in anyway.

"What a sacrifice you've made for me to have this, Mom." My son said softly.

"No, I said. "I didn't make the sacrifice, son. You're Dad did."

It would have deeply saddened me if my son had chosen not to receive my gift. What about all those times I held onto the money when I could have used it to prevent hardships? What about the wasted opportunities that passed by to help someone else in need? But that is not what this gift was for. I didn't raise a dummy! It would be foolish for my son not to accept the gift and use it for college. That's just what he did.

Forgiveness is a free gift offered to us by our heavenly Father. While it cost you and me nothing, it cost our Savior His life. How foolish it would be for us to doubt it or not to accept it at all - for it's the way to peace. We can't earn God's forgiveness and we don't deserve such an unspeakable gift, but our heavenly Father, who loves us beyond measure, offers it freely. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NKJ)

If God is a God who cannot lie - and He is - then His promise to forgive is given and received the moment you ask. It's not based on feelings, but fact, and received by faith. "Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free, indeed." (John 8:38, NKJ)

"Dear Lord, thank You for making the ultimate sacrifice so that my sins can be forgiven. I trust by faith that my past has been wiped away and I have been given a new start. I don't trust this by my feelings, but by the truth of Your Word. If you said it's true, I believe it, Lord. Thank You for giving me such a wonderful gift through the death and resurrection of my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen."

Follow-up Application: It's true, we don't always "feel" forgiven. Praise God our forgiveness is not based on our feelings but the work Christ did on the cross. So whenever you need reassurance, mediate on God's truths and pray them back to Him, thanking God for making you clean. In His presence, what is fact will eventually be felt in your heart.

Thought of the Day

"Prayer is not conquering God's reluctance, but taking hold of God's willingness."

- Phillips Brooks

Janie--Good morning.  Since you were up early there probably will be some zzz's waiting for you on the couch this afternoon .:)

Good morning!  The plumber came yesterday afternoon, fixed everything, now all is well again.  The checkbook is a little skinnier but the annoyance over something not working right is gone.

I'm off to get my hair cut this afternoon.  Not really looking forward to it since it is supposed to be near 100 deg. this afternoon and humid.   :hot:  Oh, well, summer is here officially.....I'll just live with it.

Make it a good day, my friends.

Hi everyone.  We are starting our day already at 78 degrees and headed to 96 this afternoon.  I plan on going to coffee and then a quick stop at the Walmart Pharmacy to get the rest of the prescription on the medicine I picked up yesterday morning.  We don't have the Wisdom group at church today as the minister had to attend a meeting out-of-town.  I emptied the dishwasher this morning and watered my plants on the patio and a couple of other things and then had to sit down for awhile as was exhausted.  I have now watered the flowers on the front porch so my outside chores are done for today.

We stayed home for our evening meal yesterday as Pat felt it was too hot to try to get out and eat.  It worked out well as Scott didn't get here until after 6:30 so we had a late dinner.

Hal, glad your experience with your plumber was a good one.  At this time of the year the things we can get at a farmer's market are usually from the larger suppliers that have imported the items.  We have had some really delicious corn on the cob this year, including last evening.

Callie, Tulsa isn't that far from Oklahoma City and surely Ellen will make periodic visits back home.  Nice she could transfer her job.

Jackie, you are right about workmen being on-time. I have had pretty good experience with people doing what they say they will.  Glad you got the photo taken so quickly.

June, glad to see your foot and leg were feeling better.  What a nice feature to have the counter open 24/7 for those snack items including the fruit.  Fortunately the services not provided by your home are not needed very often.

Callie, that isn't many chocolate chips or did you leave off the zero from the 3?  It could be a seedier watermelon.   ;D

JeanneP, you are certainly right about how expensive it is to maintain a car.  I agree that it is no one else's business how we spend our money.  We did take a mortgage on this house but knew we would not stay here long enough to every pay it off.  It was nice not to have house payments for many years but the mortgage is doable and it might be that when we no longer can stay here that Scott will want the house.

JaneS, the tax rebate based on income seems to be a very good things.  We have a homestead exemption that we will finally be eligible for starting in January of next year.  I really can't complain about the taxes on our house nor could I on the house we had in Georgia.

Sandy, nice of you to give your granddaughter those kitchen items you were  not using.

Phyllis I try hard to get most things I do scheduled for the mornings rather than afternoons.  Glad the nagging plumbing problems are now just a memory.

Janie--For sure they will be there.

Good morning, Phyllis.  Glad you got the plumbing taken care of.  It was 81° at 4 a.m. and is going to be near 100°.  Yuck.

halkel--Good morning.  Hope it's not so hot there.

Good morning, Larry.  You've got the heat and humidity that we do.  I am staying in again today.

Good morning to all those on the left coast, and good afternoon to all you dear folks on the right coast, and good day to all those in between. We have been Blessed by a New Day. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I woke up shortly after six A.M. and someone has stolen  some of the hours between then and now at 9 a.m.  Whatever shall be shall be.

Janie, how do the dogs wake you in the very early hours ? Do they bark, whine, nuzzle you or breathe in your face. But what good little critters they are not to leave spots behind on their way out the door.

Larry, I think the most important thing we receive here is all the medical care. Our clinic downstairs is also open 24/7. A R.N. is on duty at all hours. We have been celebrating Luau all week and today is the big celebration. From 11 to 12 we have a Luau Luncheon, then picture taking in the gazebo, a a performance by Mahaha Polynesian Entertainment. Yesterday we had a large group of Hawiian singers and they taught us what to do with our hands..the movements tell of the rain, clouds, sun, wind, etc.

I have had my breakfast, so I think it is time to dress and check out the rest of the world. Our high is supposed to be in the 80's. I hope that is correct as most of the entertainment will be out of doors today, and I don't want to miss anything. So Onward and Upward my friends. We shall return.

halkel--I wouldn't tarry in the heat either.

June--The Hawaii celebrations sound like fun.  I hope it doesn't get too hot and you can enjoy the luau.

When it is hot, the slow cooker is usually making one dish for dinner - outside on the deck.  Otherwise, I tend to make a lot of large meals and freeze portions for the really hot days.  Lived through years without A/C and a person just keeps the early morning or late night cooking/cleaning habits.  Not so much late night now.  We set the A/C at 75.

Once, just before back surgery, a lady cleaned my house - our oldest son has just been in a truck rollover and was achingly stiff and hurting, husband was starting a new job on Monday - my back surgery was scheduled for Monday - and my squeaky cleaning SIL Doris thankfully flew to our house for a week to tend to me.  Before she arrived, I hired a lady to clean the two floors - that woman complained about the work and I wanted to tell her that I do it free all the time.
The word got out to neighbors and unknown people to us of our dire predicament and strangers brought entire dinner meals daily for about ten days - it was so awesome I will never forget their kindness (happened in Texas).

Now, it takes me almost three days to keep up this place and you can see I take long breaks.

June:  Can you do the Hula!

Callie:  Understand you completely about your g-daughter moving.  Now I also understand why my mother was depressed when I moved from Seattle to Washington D.C.  Do you have SKYPE on your computer?  It is a great way to speak to someone and also see their face.

Carol--I don't do much cooking when it's so hot, but when I do I use the crockpot.  You sure had wonderful neighbors in Texas.

I'm home and I'm "all in but my shoestrings" and if I had any of them, they'd be in too.  I'm definitely going to check out the zzzs on the sofa in a little bit.

June, the dogs both sleep on the bed with me and when one of them jumps down it either means there's a thunder storm or someone has to out.  I always know when one of them gets down.  And, yes, they really are good about going out.  They'll wait for me to get warm clothes on the winger or to use my own facility before I take them.   And they come right back when they finish.  Of course, they know they will get a treat when they come in.  That might have something to do with their coming back.

Nice people shopping at WM today.

And I have to apologize to someone about the WM credit card.  It's not WM/Discover.  It's WM/Master Charge.  But they are keeping the WM Store card and I couldn't find anyone who knew anything about dropping Visa.  I'll keep asking.

Enjoy your afternoon, Everyfriend!

Good afternoon, I to am home and happy to sit still.for the moment. My vehicle wasn't too kind to me, the a/c line sprung a leak and the part has to come from the US. they will phone me to set up a time for this to be done.Plus there is a recall on the ignition and that will also be done at the same time. My  wallet will be on a starvation diet for a while  :'( I have always said that if all our problems are outside the home then we can handle them...so this will be handled.
The best part of the day was meeting up with daughter in love and heading off to the choclate factory, bakery and quilt shop..we all helped with the economy in the town  :smitten:

Now to unwind and relax..

Well I'm home, spent over an hour in the chair.  Had a young dentist doing the cleaning and she found the front filling that she had done last year most of it had come out at the top and she had to re-do it and of course it is bigger and she said it is the last time it could be filled.  It had decayed up above the gum line and hopefully she got the filling up to the top, the first time she tried it didn't stick, bleeding too bad, so she had to re-clean everything and changed to something else to fill things.  The she informed me not to eat anything that puts lots of pressure on that tooth, that because of the size of the filling, it would more than likely fracture.....oh whoopee.  Then she said dry mouth could be part of the problem, did you know that dry mouth increases decay.  So we talked about Biotene and using it, said that it was the only really product on the market but made no specific recommendation.

June, did you figure out how to use that "wiggle" in your Hawaii dance.... ;)

Anyhow, I am off to the den and the couch.

Good morning from a bright and sunny Interior with just a small bit of wind! We are expecting to be in the early to mid-eighties for the last part of June and dearly want to believe "Them."

Gloria D, they came in manager and head of housekeeping soon after my posting that. It was a quick in and out, but I'm always concerned for some reason. The company inspects all the buildings in both Anchorage and Fairbanks twice yearly in June and then again in December.

You can smell the paint, but it is not that bad. The new carpet laying in early July will be more of a hassle I believe. So far no one from that painting company has returned to move all the furniture back against the walls in the joint areas, and housekeeping and maintenance are not happy with that as there are seven local buildings and multiple floors to fix. I don't think they will be accepting more bids from the painting crew.

Farrah was watching the shadows beneath the doors on Tuesday and listening to all the chatter in the halls, but spent yesterday under the bed while most of the activity went on. Today, as it's quieter, she remains out. She is laying on my bed for a few moments longer as well but doesn't stay very long. She's trying new things.

I have noticed that she sleeps through the midday and is active in the morning and late afternoon. While I am up early and to bed early. She is vocal and seems to be as Sarah was in that she looks at me and will go to the closet if she wants a refill and to the front room fitness mat when she wants treats. If Farrah starts bringing me her food or water dishes as Sarah had, I will be surprised! She still tries to herd me and vocally encourage me when we do her morning and evening routines, especially preparing her wet food.

Molly.  I would like to think that I could keep my Honda for ever. Only thing is the family can't see me doing it if I want to still drive long distance.  I would trust it . They don't.

Now will you both be taking a trip anyplace nice once he gets his Medical physical over with? Find some cooler area to visit.  I would sure like to go someplace as not been out of town all year. Just to hot now.  Need to visit a friend in Montreal. They have a lake cottage in nice cook area for summer but it is just having to go through this heat getting there.

June. It still surprised me that where you now live they have this habit of knocking on you door at 6am. Think I would be getting myself later down on the list.   Like 9am.  Just not a morning person. Once retiring I found that to be the best thing. No early rising.

Larry,  3 is the number of miniature chocolate chips the recipe recommends but I often use 5.  The cookie isn't really big enough for any more than that.

Larry, With rehearsals for two shows and working, Ellen probably won't have/take time to make the 1 hour and 40 minute trip very often between now and September 4.   When she does, she'll probably go to her parents' home, which is another 40 minutes from here.
During the two Tulsa shows she's already been in, she's made some good friends there - and I suspect she'll find some fun/mischief to get into with them.
It's o.k.   I'm delighted that she's spreading her wings and working toward bigger goals.

Carol,  I don't have Skype and doubt I'd use it with anybody - family or not.   I just started texting earlier this year and still don't keep my GoPhone on very much.
I'm just not the type who needs to talk to family - or anybody else - every single day.
Plus, I live "on the way home" for my college granddaughter and she occasionally stops in on her way to or from school.

Two months after I graduated from college, I moved 365 miles away from my parents for my first teaching job.  Since I['m an only child, it may seem surprising that they encouraged me to do this.  However, they had raised me to be independent and really couldn't fuss when that's what I became.    :)  Not sure they realized it would be 20 years before I moved back to Oklahoma, though!  ;)

There aren't many cookies left from the Bridge party but I've worked some Soda Shoppe Magic  and there are plenty in the Hidey Hole.  Help yourself!

Just stopping in to say HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.

I am not sure when I posted last, but found my last screen was a posting screen, but it was blank, so who knows?

We finished our taking care of Colorado Grand's last Sunday.  Now it is Thursday and the Chicago Grandson's and two Royal Standard Poodles are in our care until noon on next Sunday.  First day not even half over and I am not doing that well. Just stressed and tired.  Bob made me stay home and he took the boys to the pool to swim.

It has been hot here....like everywhere else!  This afternoon it has clouded over and it looks like rain......I pray for NO hail,as I have just replanted for the third time, my flowers that were ruined by the hail.

Yesterday I found a nearly brand new mobility scooter for sale and decided to go and take a look at it.  It is in great shape and we decided to buy it.  I have a hard time walking long distances, so this will give me a chance to go and enjoy myself at places like the zoo and the like.  It barely fits in the back of our SUV, and only because it comes apart.  Even so, it is a bit heavy for even Bob to put it in on his own.

The swimmers are back so I had best help get them settled on.

Hugs to all.

Jenny

Angelface--They sure are giving your complex a renovation.  Farrah apparently hasn't decided if she likes all that extra activity.

JeanneP--My Cadillac has 47,000 miles on it, and  I am thinking it's about time to trade.

Callie--Thanks for putting those cookies in the hidey hole.

Jenny--I was wondering where you were.  It seems like you have worn yourself out babysitting.  How nice that you were able to purchase that mobility scooter.

I just now got an email from Sun.  It says "Still have cast on hand, & arm …now go to theropy…slow to heal.  Tell all hello……Sun"

JoanFL.  Now you are what I am looking for. Someone who I know is a one owner. Taken good care of the car and buying a new one. Only 45000 miles on  I just do not trust used cars on the Lots. Many from the Auction Houses or from the Lease companies.
What are you thinking of buying?

I had an email from Sun also.  She says she's thinking about the voice-activated programs.  I hope she decides that it's a good idea.

I never found the zzzs in the sofa.  That can sure be elusive sometimes.  Maybe I'll sleep better tonight if I don't nap during the day.  I've been taking an inventory of canned goods left from last year and making a list of what I want to do this summer.  I don't need as much as I thought.  What I have will keep and will serve this winter and I can do what I like most to do this summer.

Callie, everyone up here loves the Cinnamon pickles and I'm down to my last3 jars so that's on the agenda.  I'm off to peruse the Ball Blue Book.  It's my canning bible.

Thanks Bis, this has been a super day. Nice and cool, a delicious Hawaiian meal..good company at a table outside. Then on to the program in the Courtyard. It was packed. They brought over all the wheel chair patients from the extra care facility. The Hawaiian dancers that really were from the various islands were superb, and how they could keep up the pace of the movements was almost unbelievable. They had those of us that could stand do the various hulas with them, directing us, and of course yours truly joined in with one hand holding onto my cart.

Carol, yes I can wiggle my hips, and I did. I may be sore tomorrow, but I had a ball today.

Janie, You surely do have well mannered doggies, and good friends as well. I'm glad your day at WM went so well. I think your work keeps you feeling young.

Hal, I think going to the dentist is one of the most unwelcome things I have to face in life. I have saved some teeth by suffering through root canals, the this last one was a doosey..four hours in the chair. You bet my wiggle worked Hal..overtime for one really fast movement, but I loved it, and to watch the dancers was a real thrill. with the grass skirts every movement is intensified of course but so well done. And the slow music always tells a story with the arms and hands..beautiful.

JeanneP. I think I have them well trained now that they no longer bother me in the early hours of the morning. Having tests done early, I will accept, as they may have good reason for it. Those doing the testing are not employees of Rowntree, they are contracted in, so we follow what they need. I'm not a morning person either Jeanne. I wake about six, but I have a prayer time, and exercise and massage time, then on to coffee and the computer, and by nine o'clock I tell myself it is time to make the bed and get dressed for the day.

Jenny, there is a lift for scooters or wheel chairs that fasten to the back of your car. You can drive the scooter onto the lift then it raises to the proper height for driving the car. I have seen them in operation where I used to live. You may want to look into it. We don't want Bob to ruin his back handling the scooter.

Oh...I am SO glad some of you have heard from our Sun. I will be praying that her healing speeds up so we can have her back with us again.

JOAN - I really smiled when I read your message about selling your car.  Mohamed would love to have that brand and to him the mileage is a very small amount!  What color is it?

HAL - You are certainly a brave Lad to deal with your Dentist in the way you described.  I've told my Dentist several times that I would like to "go to Dreamland" while he (or one of his Assistants) works on my teeth.  He just smiles and tells me to behave myself and he will do the best he can for me.  My response is usually along the lines of "Irish Lassies my age REALLY do not worry about behaving themselves any more!"  Then he starts humming or singing!

JeanneP, I am with you as far as buying new cars rather than used, but it isn't that I don't trust the used cars; it's that I don't know enough about cars to buy a used car.  With a new one, I can go back to the dealer.  Not every one can afford a new car.  Tom just bought a used 2006 Toyota Camry and loves it.  It has a lot of miles on it.  He bought it from a used car dealer, not from an  individual.  When he got that car, I sold my car to my great-niece in Indy.

June - and Jenny - when Norm had "old Blue" in Florida, he had a platform for his scooter.  It worked very well for him and he was able to go more places in Florida because of the rack.  Eventually he sold that car and bought a van that already had a setup for his scooter.

I'm glad Sun was heard from - welcome home.

Hello everyone. HP sent recovery disks and a tech to install . Brought the pc back to nothing like it was brand new. . Lost every thing except what is on the external, and here in my gmail. He left me with no email in Windows.
At least I got in here. This and Skype are what I  really missed this week. Hope I remember how to invite others in there. Just sent an email to my grandson explaining what happened and telling him I need his help once again.

I know I really should go back and read what has been happening this week but right now I am not feeling much like being at the pc. I spent almost 4 hours looking for things and only managed to get in here. Take care everyone and I hope I see you all tomorrow.

Good evening from Florida! It's still 85 outside at 10:45 but the new A/C is humming away.

Jenny - Sounds like you need a vacation.  :) You will enjoy that scooter and the suggestion for the lift on the back of the car is a good one. I see them down here a lot, especially at the grocery store.

June - Must have been fun to have the Hawaiian dancers perform. I love Hawaiian music.

Angel - The new carpet and paint will make it seem like you have a new apartment. What are your plans for Farrah while they lay the carpet?

Hal - I have been using Biotene for a long time. Mostly at night because I am a mouth breather, (can't breathe well through my nose) so whenever I wake up during the night I use it. Be sure to get the one that says Dry Mouth Oral Rinse with a drawing of a tooth on the front. I made the mistake of getting the other one once and didn't like it. We also use the Biotene toothpaste. It's milder.

I'm happy to hear that Sun has checked in with some of you. I hope she'll get the voice software. Speaking of that, it would be nice to hear some word about Kelly.

Molly - I hope Mohammed will be able to spend some time with you soon. Hope he's had good news from all of his medical check-ups.

Jane - I missed something here........What are cinnamon pickles?

Callie - We want our children and grandchildren to be independent, don't we?  I found a nice graphic and if I ever figure out how to post it, I will!  ;)

Gloria - Good to see you are back on your computer.

Carol - When I had my lung surgery (2009) many of my wonderful neighbors got together and provided us with meals for a couple of weeks. I don't think they knew just how much it was appreciated, in spite of my thanks. Our neighborhood is like that. I am very fortunate.

Larry - We have Florida's homestead exemption and it's a big help.

Our car will be 5 years old in November and we have no plans to trade. It's a Lincoln MKZ hybrid and we love it. Very comfortable and good on gas.

Amy - Chocolate factory? Hmmmmm!  :)

Jackie - Are you enjoying the new outdoor furniture? I've been wanting a couple of wicker chairs for my little front "porch".

Sandy - Did you get to see the new great-grandbaby again?

Phyllis - What would we do without plumbers?  ::)

Jeanne P. - We've reached that point where life goes into reverse and our children worry about US!

Haven't seen Lloyd today.......

Beverly, yes...I have been making the most of our dry and sunny weather, it is very comfortable and relaxing,....all I need now is to take up knitting, well I would if my numb right hand would allow me.......

Jenny, good on you buying a mobility scooter...we dont like to admit we are now at that stage but...we have to do what is going to make our life simpler, comfort, and simplicity are our new words......I can see that day approaching for me very soon, the way my walking is going...my walking can diminish in seconds, which affects my whole body to my head...then right leg relaxes itself just as quick....I have to be honest...I really do hate this Illness...I am the same alert person, just my body movements have changed, and are ruling me....

Gloria, a warm welcome back to our fold....we now have two absent members making an appearance yesterday - today...Gloria and Sun...the only one still missing is Kelly, and he hasn't answered my PM yet....
...........................
Well its now 5.40 am, been up 50 minutes already, had my first cup of tea of many.....

Edited...its now 6.25 am...R got up to hear our referendum results.....I - we are pleased with the outcome....R of course has now gone back to bed, me I am up for the day...

Good early morning, I have never been in here so early 3:45AM, just, cannot sleep, tried reading also, thought I would check in with the early birds.

I am so worried about my grandson, he now has kidney problems, my DIL called last night, I feel so bad I can not go down to Fla. to see him.

The poor cat is confused, she is not use to me getting up this early

Carol, I keep saying Thank God, for my wonderful neighbors, or I never could stay here anymore, they check on me all the time.

June, your party sounded like a lot of fun.  I can picture you leading the dance.

Joan, I think I beat you here.

Jenny, I think you need to take some time and go back gambling.

Maybe I will try to go back to bed again. I just heard the paperman deliver the paper.

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend.   There's a breakfast casserole to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

CHUCKLES

Seals

Some people are extremely impressed when you tell them you're a Navy SEAL.

Case in point: My grandson's Kindergarten class on Career Day. I regaled them with stories of my exploits in the military. After I finished, hands shot up into the air all over the classroom. The kids were eager to ask questions.

One little girl asked, "Can you balance a ball on the end of your nose?"

Food For Thought

How Can God Not Seem to See?
(Debbie Preuss)

How can God not seem to see
This wicked World of depravity
Stabbings, killings in this life
A man beating his own wife
What have we come to? I often ask
On this earth so small, yet vast
People turning their backs on God
With a logic that is flawed
They don't believe He is alive
As they live their lives from nine to five
Then they ask why God turns away
As they ignore Him day after day
God sees the sin and He has a cure
That will forever more endure
But those who still turn their back
His salvation, they do lack
For our Father had a plan
To redeem the sinful man
Give up the life they now live
Everything now, to Him give
He will cleanse and make us whole
When we give to Him control
His only Son died on a cross
So that man need not be lost
His blood covers all our sin
So that believing, we would win
Eternal life from heaven above
Surrounded by His perfect love
But those who don't accept the gift
Will not be able to span the rift
Between heaven and this mortal sod
For they are not children of God
They have no claim on heaven above
For they don't know God's gift of love
Soon will be the judgment day
When God will turn His face away
Then to hell, they will go
When offered salvation, they said no
God's children He will gather in
Those forgiven of their sin
The rest will go to Satan's domain
For they did not call God's name
They're not His children, life is done
They turned their backs on God's own Son
Know now that God does see
This wicked world of depravity
He made the cure available to all
If they would only answer His call
Those who don't know Him on that day
For the last time, God will turn away
And with their mortal, dying breath
They enter the hell after death
Listen here and listen well
God has NO children in hell

Thought of the Day

The deepest problems of the human race are spiritual in nature. They are rooted in man's refusal to seek God's way for his life."

Good Morning everyone.

Bis expline how do drink your car,

$2.99 SPECIAL

I love it.

If you are a Senior
you will understand this one.
If you deal with Seniors,
this should help you understand them
a little better,
And if you are not a Senior yet........
God willing, someday you will be.

The 2.99 Special

We went to breakfast at a restaurant
where the 'Seniors Special' was
two eggs, bacon, hash browns
and toast for $2.99.
'Sounds good,' my wife said,
'But I don't want the eggs.'

'Then, I'll have to charge you $3.49
because you're ordering a la carte,'
the waitress warned her.

'You mean I'd have to pay for
not taking the eggs?'
my wife asked incredulously.

'Yes!' stated the waitress.
'I'll take the special then,' my wife said.

'How do you want your eggs?'
the waitress asked.

'Raw and in the shell,' my wife replied.

She took the two eggs home
and baked a cake.

DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!!
We've been around
the block more than once!

Even Non-Seniors will appreciate it!

Always laugh when you can -
it's cheaper than medicine !!!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We got up at 5:45 this morning which is a reasonable hour when you have 2 dogs and you make them go to bed at 10 pm.  I was still feeling a bit under so I curled up on the sofa and I found those missing zzzs from the night before!  I slept until almost 7 and the doggies allowed it.

Beverly, the pickles are Cinnamon Sweet Pickles.  The recipe I got from Callie a couple years ago.  They were such a hit that I make them regularly now.  Everyone I share them with, loves them.

Right now it's 64 here and we are only supposed to have a high of 82.  Not bad for late June in Central PA.  I could take this weather all summer but I know we're in for some high temps in July and Aug.  (The height of the canning season.

Have a good day Everyfriend!

Good morning, Lloyd.  Ha, Ha about my car.  Thanks for your chuckle.

Amy--Good morning.  Hopefully you won't have to wait to long for them to get the part for your car.  At least you have another vehicle that has a/c that works.

Good Morning, Janie.  Glad you caught up on your sleep last night.

Gloria just called me.  Her computer is down AGAIN.  She had already called the tech that HP sent yesterday, and he said he'd try to work her in today.  Needless to say, she is totally fed up.

Good Morning Everyone!

Yep Jackie I saw in your paper today that you will be leaving the EU and become Great Britain once again.   EU bureaucrats must be sobbing in their beer today.

Warm out here, already.  They are finally saying we will have a change in our weather pattern, the summer high is going to break down and let us have a chance for some rain, which we can use.  Not much of a chance, but a chance.

Bless Gloria's heart.  She is having a time of it with that computer.  They could have saved time and money by just replacing it.

Happy that Sun is making progress, hopefully she will be back soon.

Coffee is ready, who wants a cup or a warm up.

Good Friday afternoon......

Got a phonecall yesterday evening from Poole Hospital.....receptionist gave me some dates bringing forwards my MS Consultant appointment by 2 & a half months, so I took next Tuesday 3.pm....Got some distance to travel, also we dont know this large hospital...to make matters worse, I don't have my Blue ( disabled ) Badge yet, so cant park at the nearest disabled parking spot.... so R will have to drop me off outside the main door once we find the dept I need to go in, then he will have to drive off to the road away from the hospital they have told him best to park in, could take R some time before he gets back to me....There is a multi storey car park away to the side but it is meant for short stays, I wont know how long I have....

Now all I am awaiting on is my urinary bleed scan appointment...

Monday I booked a Benji appointment, this is for a second opinion and monitoring, re, his cancer...

Well you know what they say, the only life we get as we age is vets, G P visits or hospital appointments....well at least it is getting me out of the home...Guess I can now call this my social life.....

Hi everyone on another hot South Carolina morning.  I have finished my outside chores and plan on spending most of today inside where it is cool.  I awoke at 6:30 this morning but decided to pick up my phone and read my email and these message boards before getting up for the day.  Other than to reset the times on my watering system to earlier in the mornings I have no other definite plans and will just play it by ear.

Yesterday morning was busy as after coffee and taking my friend back to his house I stopped at Aldi's for groceries, came home and unloaded and put them away and then Pat and I went to Chick-Fil-A for our main meal of the day.  I came home and rested for a couple of hours and that was basically it for the day.

Joan, would have had no objection if you had kept the heat and humidity down your way.  We are headed to 97 this afternoon.  The morning is overcast so far and that help the heat some.

June, it must be unusual for a living facility to have a full time RN on duty around the clock.  I expect she stays pretty busy with all the residents you have living there.  Glad you had such a good time at the Hawaii celebration.

Carol, hard to fathom why someone hired to clean would complain about doing the work.  Guess it takes all kinds.  I didn't know how much friends providing some meals in the time of need could mean.  We experienced it with Pat's surgeries and then the passing of Stacey and we were so grateful.  There are many, many good people everywhere.  On Wednesday Pat had both of her crockpots in use.  We ate the stew Wednesday evening and expect we will have the chicken she fixed tonight.

Amy, good attitude about your upcoming car repairs.  At least he recall work won't hit your billfold.  Are the chocolate factory, bakery and quilt shop close together?

Hal, your tooth sounds like the one I babied as long as I could until it broke off one day.  Fortunately the dentist was able to do a crown on the tooth.  However, I still am very careful with my front teeth.  Hope you new filling lasts a long time.

JeanneP, having my Motor Club membership and my cellphone always available, I don't worry about getting caught out.

Callie, I guess you should be able to see the cookie for the chocolate chips.  Thanks for the explanation.  Pat and I also moved to Oklahoma City from the Kansas City area within the first year of our marriage.  Being away from family initially is a pretty good way to establish your independence and learn self-reliance.

Jenny, it sounds like you all need a vacation from all the babysitting.  Having little ones around, even thought we dearly love them, is exhausting as they have so much energy and we don't.  Glad you got the mobility scooter as it will make being out and about much easier and less tiring for you.  When Stacey got the electric wheelchair after losing her leg, she could no longer come out to our house as we had no way of transporting it and she wasn't strong enough to use crutches.

I join all in being glad that we have heard from Sun and from Gloria although I see the fix on her computer didn't work.  Her new computer is obviously a lemon.  I sure hope she hadn't started reloading her software onto it.  I wouldn't consider buying an HP computer or another HP printer.  I do wish we would hear something from Kelly.

Sun, my best friend, who has Parkinson's Disease now used Dragon Naturally Speaking and loves it.  It does a great job on typing exactly what he says with few corrections needed.

deAngel, certainly not the news you wanted to hear concerning your grandson.  Is he still in ICU?

Jackie, glad your appointment has been moved up to next Tuesday.

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  At least you got your one appointment changed and it'll be sooner.  Let us know what the vet for the second opinion says about Benji.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  My second computer was an HP, and I got good service from it until it died.  Since then I have had Dell's.

Janie--Guess all brands have lemons.

Good morning, Larry.  Believe me I didn't send the HOT and HUMID weather to you.  It's still here.

We have had HP printers for years and have always had good luck with them.  But, never an HP computer.  Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what company it is or how much you pay for extra bells and whistles....sometimes, you just get a lemon.  I'm sorry that this time it is Gloria who is going through the aggravation.

Off to the grocery store.  I shall not tarry between house and car and store and back again.  It is VERY humid here today.

Phyllis, you are right.  It isn't just computers that are sometimes lemons.  I had a Chrysler several years ago that was in the service department 16 times when it had less than 1,500 miles on it.  The Lemon Law in Arkansas says that if you have a problem and they can't fix it with three visits to  Service, they must replace the vehicle or give you your money back.  Chrysler thought they were beyond the law.  I finally had to get in on a class action suit filed by the Attorney General's office to get a new car.

BEVERLY - Many thanks for your thoughts RE Mohamed.  He has been in to visit with his Maryland Dr. this morning and called me 3 times this morning already.  It's ben like I was sitting in the exam room listening to the Dr. with Mohamed! He's reached a point in his health issues where he needs to become more familiar with what a lot of us experience as we age.  Mohamed is in his early 60's now and has always been very, very healthy.  Not accustomed to regular medical checks, etc.  We certainly are going to have some very serious conversations focused on his health when he returns in a few days.

Good afternoon, as I have already written it is a pleasant day.

Larry, I have to tell you I am no longer so depressed. Just hung up the phone from Jess, and they had just moved him out of ICU after10 days.  they are now doing a lot more test.  Then he will go to rehab in Pensacola. Prays do help, and I have to say I am in better shape this afternoon. I now will go grocery shopping.

Jackie, I sure pray you will have better news, when you to Benj to a differnt Vet.
I agree with all of you, Gloria should only get a new computer.  I must say my HP owns me nothing, it is nealy 8 years old. If I buy another one I will buy it from Best Buy. They have the Geek squad, that comes right to the house to set it up and take care of it. Most of the park does business with them.

Joan, thanks for goodies.

One thing that makes it good Don is if you loose your car key anywhere in the USA. We thought lost in N.Orleans few years back. They can Start your car if close to home or they can program another key and express it to you. Maybe now they have a new way in the new cars that will make it you will be able to go to A lock smith. Call dealer and they will give code so he can make a key.  Either way will never get on for $10 done now.  I always have about 4 keys made when I get another car. Keep a spare in my wallet so always have it close. Tried putting them under the car but they fall off

Back, when I was in college, I took Speech, as many do and it was a large class about three hundred. I remember, besides my shaking and nerves, that our first three-minute speech was to be about our greatest frustration.

Mine was about parents behavior in retail and other public areas and how parents behaved with their children, either violently or pushing it off to the store personnel. I still remember one harried mother with a trio of young who pointed me out and said, "See her? If you misbehave, she will take you to the police who will put you in jail!"

I also remember working in an import-export store with crystal, glass, china, pewter, silver and gold. Parents entering the mall would drop off their children at our door, regardless of signs pointing out that no child was to enter without a parent or guardian. We finally would have a clerk take the child directly to the mall office if we found one unattended.

However, I was a minority of one. Each and every person in that class other than myself spoke of driving and cars.

How good it is to see our Gloria and Sun back with us again. Even a short message is so welcome. Sun dear, I pray God will touch and heal your arm very soon. I have missed you my dear one. And Gloria, I know how frustrating it has been for you with the darn computer problems. Lets hope they are all in the past and in the days to come, your Grandson will be able to come and help you straighten out any problems. I have missed you very much

I am back. I suddenly felt the need to lie back and read, so I did it.

Janie, I am happy you found your zzzzz's. We should listen to what our bodies tell us more often, and we wouldn't wear out as quickly as we do…I speak for myself, but hopefully to assist others too.

Bis, Gloria has certainly been pushed to the limit as far as her computer is concerned. I think I would be ready to threaten legal action, and carry through with the threat if necessary. These big concerns think we have to control. It is time they learned differently.

Jeanne Lee, my Mac is going on 9 years, and I have only had minor problems, like now..my computer girl has installed Adobe Flash player for the third time, and it keeps failing. Not the fault of the computer but the program itself, as I understand it.

Larry we have more that one R.N. working. One girl could not handle all of us, and believe me that little Clinic is busy from morning till bedtime, but still on duty. There is are male R.N.'s that take the night duty. If there is a serious problem they call our own doctor and follow directions. That is how I ended up in the hospital last time.

My car had a special ignition key that differed from the other one, maybe that is why they are so costly now. I am free from car troubles now and very thankful.

My housekeeper just finished cleaning my bathroom, so I will go in and shower and shampoo, and hopeful I will be refreshed. I think part of my problem is too much activity at the Luau yesterday. I just have to learn to act my age. But I had such a good time.

angelface--I bet you got on A on that speech.  It sure showed you were able to "think outside the box".

June--Gloria sure has given them more time than I would to either fix that computer or give her a new one.  By now I would have sought legal counsel.

A good Friday evening to EVERYFRIEND.

FIRST OFF, my thanks to those of you that commented on my complaints yesterday.  It is true, we are both just tired and not able to handle the responsibility of these young grand's that we love so much.  As sad as I am to say this, I think we are done doing full time care.... And I will say, I do believe the families will understand.

Today the day started at 5:45.  Think the boys are on Central time, even though they went to bed on Mountain time! It worked out well though as we were able to get out the door and be at the zoo just after it opened.  My new cart is a delight.  It is so peppy and I was able to drive it everywhere I wanted with no problems.  I am so lucky to have it and this is the exact reason that I wanted to get one.

MARYANN, I remember Norm's "old blue" very well.  We plan to look into one of the scooter carriers, but Bob was able to take off another section so it is light enough for him to lift it in now with no problem. It says the heaviest part is 28 #'s.

JACKIE, so pleased to read that the appointment has been moved up to next week.  Have been holding only positive thoughts for you when you take Benji in again. We have been watching and waiting for the announcement of the vote regarding BREXIT.  glad that you were for it and are happy that it passed.  I felt it is the best for GB, however I knew it was going to negatively effect our stock market....and boy howdy did it ever!

JOAN, loved your goodies again today, as I always do.  Thank you very much.

GLORIA, I know you are having MORE problems again, so will not be able to read this.  I am SO sorry for the grief you have had.

GLORIA de.  Happy to read that Ross has been moved out of ICU.  I, too, so wish you were able to go to FL to visit him.  He sure would love it too.

I must get a little dinner for the boys, good night toEVERYFRIEND.

Jenny, I am so happy that you do recognize the fact that it is time to quit your baby sitting. You did a beautiful job raising your own children, and I am sure you had no "baby sitting" for your four. i'm also happy that you were able to enjoy your scooter. I am still learning that I am no longer a Spring-chicken. My great fun of yesterday, stole today away from me. I was so worn out last night, from my extra exercise of hula dancing, plus the rich food I ate, that today was recovery time. I will remind myself of today when the next activities arise..and they are plentiful.

I'm off to Dreamland!  I had two nervous doggies today as the fireworks were going off.  They do not like "boomies" whether they are man-made of heavenly.  I was watching Sister Act on TV and I had it turned up as loud as I could get it so they wouldn't be able to hear the fireworks.  They had a double whammy today...fireworks at night and a thunderstorm this morning.

Good Night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully, wake refreshed and may God Bless Us Every One.

Dinner is over and boys are cleaned up and in bed.... IF I were smart I would head to bed as well.  Just need to wind down a bit.

Thank you, SANDY, that was a very sweet post and I did appreciate your kind words.

JUNE, I feel this decision to curtail this baby sitting is the right thing to do now,  but I am afraid I will weaken my thought after this is over and we are rested up!  😍 You are so right, we never had anyone to watch our kiddos.  I am happy you enjoyed a nice time yesterday, but there is a price to pay for that, as you know.  Hugs.

DON, that is a awful price to pay for a new car key, however, we had to replace a fob awhile back and it was nearly 300$.  I am thinking your key is one of the chipped ones?  Ours is a keyless start.

JANE, after my dear mom passed away we searched and searched for her car, house and a couple other keys to no avail.  My dad, Bob and I all looked in her purse many times over.  My dad went to have a key made for the car....when he tried to use it the car not only would not start but it actually locked up the system and he ended up having to have the car towed to the dealership and reset.  It cost him a good amount of money.  The person that made the key did not know and therefore could not share a warning to never do this as keys have a chip in there and just a cut key will not work.  Sure glad you found your lost knew.

GLORIA de, I apologize, I miss called your Jess, Ross!  Sorry.

LARRY, I saw something that said Aldi's is going to be totally organic soon.  We do not have them here in Colorado.  For sure these little ones are full of energy.  I do not even remember our kids being hard to entertain at all.  They played out side year round when living in Scottsdale, and just did not have to be  entertained like kids today.  The other family all have their own iPads, so they can entertain them-selves quite well.  These two do not have hand held electronics, so other than reading books, they need something else to keep them busy....like US!

I am ready to hit the hay...pleasant dreams to all.

Jenny, a good morning or a good night to you....

Yes leaving the EU will no doubt have its immediate consequences, I am sure things will get worse before it gets better.....This is a frightening ( my words ) exciting ( other's words ) time as we know we are the first Country to opt out, I am sure other Countries who may be thinking to do the same will be watching us like a hawk over the next couple of years to see if we done right.....We have taken back our Country, we are in control again.....we have made history....

Yes our £ also dropped an all-time low In 30 plus years...
..............................
Jenny and Bob, you have done more than your shares of grandchildren looking after, that doesn't have to stop, just slow down a pace or two, you both aren't getting any younger, nor fitter....I am sure all concerned will understand, your needs now must come first...

CHUCKLES

The Grocery Store

A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three year old girl in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the little girl asked for cookies and her mother told her no. The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, "Now Monica, we just have half of the aisles left to go through; don't be upset. It won't be long."

Soon they came to the candy aisle, and the little girl began to shout for candy. And when told she couldn't have any, began to cry. The mother said, "There, there, Monica, don't cry--only two more aisles to go, and then we'll be checking out."

When they got to the check-out stand, the little girls immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering there'd be no gum purchased. The mother patiently said, "Monica, we'll be through this checkout stand in 5 minutes and then you can go home and have a nice nap."

The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Monica," he began.

Whereupon the mother said, "I'm Monica -- my little girl's name is Tammy."

Food For Thought

Thanks, Dad!
(By Kelly McFadden)

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him" - Psalm 103:13 (NIV)

"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" - Matthew 7:11 (NIV)

Two years ago, my best friend's father unexpectedly passed away. I'll never forget the phone call I received that day. It was frantic and panicked, scared and distressed. The next few weeks became a journey traveling the road of loss with close friends. The most difficult part was hearing my friend expressing her wish to have another opportunity to make sure her dad knew how much she loved and appreciated him.

This prompted my sister and I to sit together, brainstorm, and make a list for our dad of reasons not only why we appreciated him, but also memories from growing up. We typed it out and took the big guy to dinner where we shared everything we loved, respected and valued about him. We laughed through memories of times we played catch or had gone fishing. We reflected on bedtime prayers and the way our dad had demonstrated the value in serving and giving to others. We cried again about the cancer he had faced years before and told him how much we admired the way he found his strength in the Lord. The buzz words we typed on the page brought up an abundant supply of stories and memories that kept us talking and sharing for hours.

Looking back on this wonderful time with my dad, I can't help but feel slightly convicted. For when have I shared this kind of a moment with my Heavenly Father? Maybe you are like me and your prayers often reflect more of what you want and less of how wonderful the Lord is; or more of what you need and less of how thankful you are for what you have. We have a Father in Heaven who loves us unconditionally and gives us wonderful gifts. He cares for our pains, trials, and triumphs. He tells us not to worry and takes care of our needs. He longs to hear from you, His child.

There is no doubt in my mind that my dad knows how much my sister and I love him. Father's Day is Sunday, so make sure your father knows how much you care through a phone call, a letter or an invitation to walk down memory lane. Some of you may not have a pleasant memory of your father or you might not have any memories at all. This may be the time to start down the road to forgiveness or reconciliation, or it may be a chance to thank others in your life that have offered fatherly wisdom to you along the way.

More importantly, don't miss your chance to do the very same thing for your Father in Heaven who loved you so much He sent his Son to die for you.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Our 4th of July parade is today.  Seems odd to me to have it this far in advance of the holiday.  In the old days, we celebrated the holidays ON the holidays whether they came on a weekend or a Wednesday.  I always thought the holidays were set to commemorate certain events, not to give everyone a long weekend.  I must be really old...or really nostalgic!  What has become of "The Good Old Days"?

I guess I better soon learn to go with the flow or it will be too late.  Have a lovely day, Everyfriend!

LIFE IS GOOD I am a Seenager. (Senior teenager)I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 60 years later. I don’t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don’t have a curfew. I have a driver’s license and my own car. I have ID that gets me into bars and the whisky store. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant. And I don’t have acne. Life is great.I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.

Good morning!  I woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep so have been playing with graphics and browsing the internet this morning.

Jackie, I hope the Brexit situation levels out soon.  We won't know for awhile, I guess, what will sift out from that earth shaking event.  Perhaps it will be good in the long run but right now it is painful.  My broker keeps telling me to think long term and I keep telling him that I don't have very much "long term" time left.   But, since what happens in the financial markets is out of my control I must remain :calm:

Gloria de, I'm glad to hear that your grandson has been released from ICU and will soon be going into rehab.  It has been worrisome for you and your family but it sounds as though he is going in the right direction and improving.

Good morning, Janie.  I agree with you.  Strange to have a 4th of July parade in June.  I guess some around here are preparing for it, because I've already heard fireworks.

Amy--Good morning.  We, too, could use an all day rain--or even two days of it.  Things are so very dry.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I can relate to the Seenager.

Phyllis--Good morning.  Since you were up so early, maybe you can find some zzz's later on.  I am trying to stay calm about my investments taking a nosedive, but it's really out of my control.

I had an email in my Inbox from Gloria when I came to my computer this morning.  The guru did come and fix her computer.

Lloyd Hammond, good to know there are some positives in getting old - older....

Amy, sadly a lot of our posts land up going into oblivion, maybe they will all meet up together one day and have a h---k of a great natter.... ;D

Well I would love to say have a happy 4th of July holiday to all my American friends but, I think that is going too far in wishing ones life away...heaven forbid they bring December 25th forward....although I am sure wont be long before Christmas stuff will be in our shops soon....

Good Morning Everyone!

Jenny, I have often wondered how my wife and I raised three children without the added help of family.  I was in the military and far away from family most of the time.  My Mom did come to help out when two of mine were born.  The third and last we were on our own and somehow managed.  But I will have to say this, my wife didn't work and was a stay at home mom, now days it seems all the wives work so the kids have to be farmed out and it is expensive, I mean out of the world expensive.  Although the public schools now are implementing a program for kids (with extra fees) for after school care.

Well, weather guessers are saying 50 percent chance for rain today.... :-\  I sure hope they are right.

When a kid I loved fireworks, but had no idea what pain and discomfort they brought to animals.  As well as some humans.  Anyhow, I had a dog that would literally tear a door down to get in the house and did once and injured itself in the process and my kids had a dog the same way.  Poor thing would go hide under a desk in their bedroom shaking like a leaf.

Anyhow, everyone have a great day.

I would like to tell you all, that I took it upon myself to Email the Police Dept. ( or whatever they call it there) on the Isle of Man my concern about the whereabouts of Kelly and they were courteous enough to answer me and suggest telephone numbers to call there..I felt that I did all I could do trying to find out about the mystery of the sudden disappearance of Kelly. Perhaps he is ill or worse or I should not be mixing in someone else's business...Nevertheless, I did, I felt, all I could do in this situation.
Just thought I would let you in about this happening...

Good morning, halkel.  They say we have a 50% chance of scattered showers, but they've been saying that for weeks.  We had no help with child care either, but I was a stay at home mom until our oldest was in high school.  We had one dog that was terrified of fireworks.  I swear she could hear them before we did.  The other dogs we had didn't flinch when it was going on.

Chia--Good morning.  Thanks for telling us what you did to try and find out about Kelly.

Good Morning "Dear hearts and gentle people", I think that is a song, or a poem, I'll have to check it out later. And even though we may get rough in our opinions at times, we are still "one'd" at heart. And it is "Love makes the world go round."

Enough of my slobbering.I had such a good nights sleep, I feel like a human being again. I hope all of you, my dear friends, have the very best day possible.

Bis, I had a raised doughnut stuffed with jam, which I had to avoid, as it looked like raspberry, and they are loaded with mean little seeds that like to attack my innards. Now it is time to pour the second cup of coffee. I am taking another day of rest, but will go down for a Hymn sing at 6:30, and will go down for a good lunch, and some needed walking.

Lloyd, Yes, life is very good. The world may be going crazy, but we can still put our foot on the brake to slow things down and help those around us to do the same.We don't have to go wild with anger and resentment, if when it is merited…it is our choice. I choose Hope. And prayer, knowing there is God in charge of everything. We are SO Blessed.

Phyllis, I woke at 5 a.m., completely rested. I'm so glad you are still playing with graphics. You give us so much enjoyment by sharing your talents with us. I thank you dear. And with the crazy things happening in the world it is good that you can loose yourself in your art for a while, and feel contentment in what you are doing.

Time to make the bed and get on with life. See you later. June

Hi everyone.  I am much later than usual getting to these boards.  I have been awake since 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep.  Finally I put on my headphones and started by audiobook and listened until it was time to get up.  I went early to get a haircut and decided to go ahead and get a pedicure as my big toes were bothering me and the shop opened just as I finished at the Great Clips and I didn't have to wait very long.  They were getting very busy by the time I left.

I came home and met out new neighbors, who started moving in yesterday and are continuing today.  I also met the ladies parents who are helping them with the move and they live close by.  The new neighbors are in their mid-forties and she has a 17 year old son, who is visiting with his Dad in California right now.  It looks like they will be fine neighbors.  They also have two small dogs that apparently spend most of their time in the house.  I watered my flowers, later than I normally like to do, but didn't want them to get totally dried out.  We are expecting another 97 degree afternoon.  I will spend the rest of the day inside where it is cool.

Don, I had to buy two keys that were about $100 a piece plus another $168 to program the chips in them when I had the ignition switch replaced on my PT Cruiser.

Jenny, I had not heard that about Aldi's and I do hope that is not the case.

Hal, in the county in which I live several of the schools are continuing the breakfast and lunch program throughout the summer.  None of the schools in the North Augusta area are doing the meals.

Larry--Sorry you didn't sleep well.  Good idea to get our early when it's so torrid and humid.  Noon news here said heat index will be about 105° this afternoon.

Good Morning everyone, I have my fingers crossed that I am finally back  online. I was on the phone with HP yesterday and they send the tech back. Will wait and see how things go now. I think this tech does not know much. He likes installing programs ai don't want or ever heard of. Before he left yesterday I made sure he had everything plugged back in, The day before he left the tower on the floor. I sure cannot pick it up and put it on the shelf where it belongs.

I have missed all of my cyber family this week. Now if I can get my mouse to behave I will be a happy camper again. I am use to only clicking once with the mouse and cannot remember how I fixed it so I do not have to click twice.

GLORIA de  it is so good being back again. Hope you have been enjoying the weather this past week. I am so sad to read about your grandson. I know you are worried. I will be praying for him.

BEVERLY  feels great being back, thanks.

JACKIE  reading your post, yes our minds are still working as good as ever  it is the body aging we have no control over. I know there are days I hate getting out of bed because I know what will happen as soon as I get on my feet. We cannot give up though.

JUNEE  still have to get my Skype working and get back to talking with my daughter again.

JOAN  thank you. Love yesterday's Food for Thought. Copied it to share and keep.

AMY  I did tell the man from HP twice now that if this machine messes up again I expect a new replacement. I stressed the new, not a second hand one.

JANE  glad you found those zzz's. The tech was not so much in a hurry to leave yesterday. It was just getting dark when he left and he had a 2 hour drive ahead of him back to Cape Cod. Seems a company as big as HP would have more techs closer than that. At least HP has treated e better than Dell did with the lemon they sold me. I never had any problems with the last HP  I had, just no mare room or memory left to work with.

HAL  I figured that just yesterday HP would have to pay that tech 8 hours, 4 for travel time and 4 here. I was so disgusted with him when he had to come back I did not even offer him a glass of water. If he did things right the first time he would not have had to come back. In the morning I was on the phone with HP and they talked me to do some things on the PC that got it back to factory setting again so he had to start from there again. Good I am glad he knows he messed up the first time. Sounds heartless but I am so tired of this mess. I'll have a. cup of coffee if you still have some. We need some rain too.

JACKIE  like you, only time I seem to get away from here is for doctor appointments. Sure glad that I can get outside and talk to others who live here.

JEANNE LEE  I had good luck with the last HP. Should have asked my grandson for help getting a new one.

LARRY  I still have not installed the programs in this PC yet.  I miss doing the graphics but will make sure everything is ok before I get into that.
A question for you, do you know where to get the mouse to work with one click instead of 2?  Someone had told me how to do that years ago and I am having trouble now remembering I have to click twice to open anything.

PHYLLIS  this is the second time I had problems with a new PC, last one was a Dell and I really had no help from them. At least HP has tried helping. My HP printer has been better than the first one I had from Dell.

DON  glad at times I no longer have to worry about loosing a car key. Hope I will be able to listen to you program tomorrow.

PATRICIA  it still angers me when I go someplace and see kids running all around. When mine were young they were always near me. I would never let them roam and bother others. Even taking them into restaurants they stayed in their seats and  didn't bothered others. One place when we were leaving the waitress came over to us and told us she dreaded seeing us seated in her section. Then complimented us on how well behaved they were and next time to ask to be seated at her station. That sure made me feel great.

JUNE  any more problems with this PC  and if they do not replace it I think I will call the TV station that helps folks get satisfaction with problems like this.

JENNY  time for you and Bob to take a break from baby sitting. I think your sons are taking it for granted they can have you baby sit all the time. Time to tell then NO you are tired.

Better post this before I get to the end.

Another day in the 90s today. I for one ready for Fall. Wonder what July and August will be like. Doubt I will go out today. Was out in it yesterday and got to much sun. Did hit the library and picked up 4 movies . 2 of them being DVD of TV shows I had not followed so that give 12 hours of Tv right there.

Our schools are still having the meals for both Breakfast and lunch all summer. Surprised me as they are so short of money.  I agree on some of it but not the age up to 18. I figure at that age they can fix themselves something. Also at 18 should be looking a a summer job. I know I worked them at 16 and both my girls wanted one at the age of 16. got them also. Seeing these kids drive up in their cars to get free breakfast and lunch is overdoing it.

Reason I hate to buy another new car is that all the gadgets that are on them. Seems like always things going wrong and the price they want to take care of it.  I can still get a key cut for my Honda Accord for $2.99. That is why I have about 5 of them around. all work fine. Also the Air Bags scare me as have had people I know hurt by them going off. Would rather not have them in. And another cost when they do go off.

Gloria--It's so good to have you back.  If that PC acts up again, I'd demand a brand new one.

JeanneP--Summer is just beginning.  Here this very warm weather lasts until at least late October, so we just have to adjust.

angelface--I don't have any pets, so I guess that's one thing I don't have to worry about.

The parade was pretty good this year.  They honored all the veterans in the area and had it divided into segments honoring those who served in every was from the Revolution through the present fighting in the Middle East.  Any veterans still living from any of the wars were asked to ride or walk in the parade.  We still have 17 vets of WWII.  That's awesome!!  And one of them walked!

Cathy and I went out to lunch after the parade and then I rode with her to return some tile and carpet samples to the store.  She's moving into a different house and the owner is doing extensive renovations on it and he is allowing them to choose colors and flooring and appliances and whatever.  She's loving it!

Tonight I'm going out to dinner with some of my high school classmates.  A couple of them are in town for a visit and we always try to gather when that happens.  I have a nice bunch of long time friends!

Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend!

Gloria, welcome back; I hope you are able to stay this time.

Patricia, Kendrick eats only cat food.  In fact, when Tom's family had a golden retriever, I fed her only dog food.  I don't know about others because I wasn't with her at all times, but I think the family fed her only dog food.

Grand Haven is very busy what with boats beyond the swimming limit and the many people in the water closer to shore.  It's only about 90 degrees here, so similar in GH.

Besides alcohol, onions, citrus, garlic and many chemicals, seasonings and preservatives can injure and kill many pets which are why vets recommend only feeding them pet food. For example, while small bits of peanut butter is fine for dogs, it isn't for cats and the seasoning rosemary, is poisonous, in plant or seasoning to cats and will cause convulsions and eventually death as my sister regrettably found out. Many bath oils and body washes can also be toxic because of fruit or flower essences, so it is a good idea to keep your pet away from them as well.

So you are right to only feed what they need to stay healthy.

JANE  I feel so bad when dogs are so fearful of thunder and fireworks. Nothing soothes them till everything is quiet again. A few days ago there was a storm along out coat with thunder, lightening strikes wind and even hail. Here we did not get a drop of rain. I am enjoying this weather the last couple of weeks but we do need rain, lawns and trees sure could use it.

JENNY  like I said earlier, learn to say NO. If your sons are like mine they do not realize we are getting older and tired. Not up to doing all we did just a few years ago.

JOAN  I'm a bit late for breakfast but a blueberry muffin would taste wonderful about now. Like the chuckles, sure glad I never had 3 screaming for anything in a market.  Thanks' Dad is a wonderful story. Thank you for today's goodies and all the ones I missed this past week.

JANE  with all that has been on my mind this past week I didn't realize the 4th was so close till I got the market flyers in the mail. Still a 4th parade this early sounds odd. Growing up where I live we had a horrible parade on the night before the 4th. My dad used to take me to all the parades, think he enjoyed them as much as I did. Of course on the 4th they had another parade with all the floats that are always a hit. Like you said, "the good old days" The town next to us has a horrible parade on the 4th but every year those is charge complain there is not enough money for it. They have it late afternoon so it does not interfere with the big and oldest 4th parade in Bristol, RI.

AMY  you a day staying home and taking it easy for a change? I will believe it when you tell us all you ended doing today and how far you were out on the road again.

LLOYD  love your post. I think we are all here "Seenagers" now.

PHYLLIS  still have to install my PSP but have to get my email set up still and get all my contacts in. Have my Gmail but I don't care for it.

JACKIE  I remember when Christmas items never showed up till after Thanksgiving. Time for excitement and shopping. Now they bring things out way to early so most are tired before it gets here and most only think of getting gifts, not the reason, for we celebrate the birth of Christ.

HAL my Mom raised a big family by herself as my Dad was always working. Hard job but we all were grateful to her and I still miss her after 62 years.

CHIA  this is not the first time Kelly has taken a break from S&F but he always sent a PM to someone to let them know. This is strange.

JUNE  glad you slept great. That always makes a person feel good.

LARRY  I used to like getting started early in the mornings. Going to the market was great at that time.

JEANNE P  I start longing for fall on the first hot spring day. By the end of September I enjoy being outside again.

PATRCIA  interesting article about pets and food. I knew chocolate and milk were not good for them.

JOAN  I just took a break away from the PC. I thought I better move around so went out for a short walk, too hot for more than that. If anything else goes wrong with this machine you will hear me screaming all the way to Florida. If anything does they will hear from me fast. Then if they do nothing I will get in touch with the trouble shooter on a local TV channel and see if they can help. We cannot always handle everything on our own.

JANE  I know you will enjoy being with your friends at dinner. That is always a fun time.

MARY ANN  thank you. feels great seeing all of you again. Hope I can catch up with everyone again.

Looks like I finally got to the end for now. Time to see if I can get Skype working.

Gloria,it is so good to see you back. Now should there be a next time with that computer holler for that trouble shooter and ttell him to take the first shot at your computer to put it out of its misery!!! :knuppel2:

I did do laundry and hung it out ..we only went to the store/coffee shop for a cuppa tea/juice and that was it. I like staying put but next week could be a busy one. I hope they call about the fix for my van and hubby has to go for a stress test on Thur. Sat we take the dog to the vet.

Janie--Glad you enjoyed the parade.  You are having a good day--lunch out and supper out with friends.

Mary Ann and angelface--Guess at this point I am glad I don't have a dog or cat.  This was I don't have the stress of worrying if I am feeding them properly.

Gloria--I sure hope your troubles with that PC are OVER!!

Amy--Good you could take it easy today if you have a busy week coming up.

I'm back. Took care of some business downstairs…picking up more prescriptions. My Dr. wants me to try an additional B.P. pill, so that was ready to pick up, I had a library book to return. The books are to be signed out and signed back in when read. If I lived to be as old as Methuselah I would not be able to read all the books our library here contains.

Bis, I had a cup of home made chicken/veg. soup, a large piece of fish, brought half of it home for supper..a green salad, mixed vegetables, a large glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. I brought my desert, vanilla mousse , home for  for later. plus some left over veg. soup which I opened a can of for last nights supper.

I spent the rest of the afternoon reading and dosing on and off, and after my light supper I will go down for hymn singing with our Chaplain leading us.

Three stories down and right outside my window in the small courtyard they had the Pie or Prize walk, which I joined in last week, but would not allow myself to do this week. It was very tempting but I resisted and just read and enjoyed the music they had playing.

Gloria dear, good thinking to share your problems with outsiders, like a t.v. or newspaper…get it out there where it will embarrass the heck out of the dealers. I've read of others who have done it, and it really got results. I think even threatening a company verbally with exposer would get results.

Janie, I hope you have a great time with your good friends tonight. You are so blessed to have them. All my "old" friends are gone now. I seem to be the last of the Mohighans.

Oh GLORIA, it is such a treat to see two posts from you today. I hope all the problems are solved now, so you can sleep well at night and not have to have strange people in messing with your computer. Grace, an employee here at Rowntree is a wonder. She takes her time doing things and does them quietly, patiently, and explains it all to me.

Dinner with friends was a blast!  We always have so much fun when we get together.  We talk and remember and laugh and sometimes shed a tear for those who are no longer with us.  But whatever it is, it's always good!

Now I'm going to relax and rest and maybe go to bed a bit early.  I'll be going to early church and then a quick stop at the Farmers Market and another one at WalMart for a few necessary grocery items and then home to (hopefully) relax.

Stopping in to say Good Night from Florida! It's a warm night and was an even warmer day. I played golf this morning but was home by 10 a.m. I didn't venture out at all this afternoon.

I talked to my DIL tonight to wish her a happy birthday. She's a nurse and is spending her birthday working the 12 hour night shift at the hospital. She said she hasn't worked on her birthday in years but tonight they were short-handed.

Good night all.

I too want to say goodnight to everyone.  We got, what I call, a teaser rain shower late this afternoon. Just enough to wet things, but not enough to do any good, well it did cool things off and we saw rain dripping off the eves.  Sigh.

At any rate, Good night everyone, God Bless and Sweet Dreams.
