In 2004, Berners-Lee was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his pioneering work. As the inventor of the World Wide Web, he was named in Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th century.

Nice to know he made this available to all of us!

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for the link.

Linedancer--Shortly after I got home this morning we had heavy rain, and it lasted for about two hours.  I really don't mind people driving my car, except when accidents happen I have to pay the deductible and it goes against my insurance.  Oh my--dropping the wedding cake is awful.

Jeanne Lee--So nice of you to help all these folks with their weather gizmo.

angelface--Bravo to Tim Berners-Lee.

Good Evening Joan..
I am so sorry to hear of the accident
that your helper had backing out of your
yard....

That is very unfortunate.   I hope that
neither of you were hurt...    But I know
that eventually when it gets in the hands
of the insurance companies,  it will hurt
monetarily.

Did you ever get your errands run?

It is just not right ...  Help is on the
way and then boom...

I hope that you are OK  and can
get back on track soon...

Hello All, I am finally home and finished for the day. Will have a light supper at home. Went to Bible study, my Gary did a fine job, and he gathers a good crowd. He and Dori will be leaving for Utah next week and will be gone for two weeks. They plan to take a slow drive up and will spend about three days in Bend Oregon before they travel on to Utah. They are so busy all the time, they have certainly earned a time out. Went to another program at at 1:30..discussion on news events, then a root beer float treat and more conversation, then outside to watch the shuffleboard  tournament, which was great fun. So that was my day.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Carol

June:  Hooray, you are back in the saddle again.....

DD:  sorry about your flowers - I think of you two every time we drive to Quebec.  Glad you had a nice time in the hills.

Joan:  Tough luck that your car was involved - why won't they use their own vehicle?

We had our monthly meeting in our little area and only four of us at the Needle Arts group.  The important thing is that one gal really needed to talk about the loss of her mother recently so it was nice that there were only four of us to listen.  Otherwise, some talk so much that nothing important gets said.  Windy out right now - no A/C is necessary.  Don bought a reconditioned iPod for me and it is working great - now I have an audio book downloaded from the library on it.  One little thing is the Zero is a bit sticky but for a deep fraction of the original price it is behaving beautifully for me.

Carol, I'm doing my best girl. But the horse is back in the barn for the rest of the day. Is there some particular work your Needle Arts group does ? it seems many folks are into quilting now. Isn't it strange that quilting used to be a necessity, and now it is a hobby. A good one in most cases too.

Mycheal, I have three more programs lined up for tomorrow. Being in a single apartment I have time on my hands, so getting out and "doing" is almost essential. I have a housekeeper, three meals a day if I want them, I do my own laundry…no more ironing… so other than the computer and books at home, I need the live association with
others. I do love people, so it is a joy to be with them, and out and about.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

All errands accomplished for today.  I do not enjoy running around in the rain but things had to be done.

Callie, my congratulations to Miss Emily!  She has a good head on her shoulders and a good relationship with God!

CHUCKLES

Havaii

As Morris and his wife, Sherry, were planning a vacation, they ended up in an argument, "It's 'Hawaii', I'm telling you!"

Sherry said. "I never KNEW someone so stubborn! 'Havaii' is how it's pronounced!" he replied. And so it went all the way to the vacation... As they got off the airplane, they passed a man.

Morris abruptly stopped the wife and turned to the man to ask, "Now that we're on the island, you can settle an argument between my wife and me. Is this 'Hawaii' or 'Havaii'?"

"This is Havaii," the man replied. "Ha!" the husband gloated to his wife. "See, didn't I tell you never to argue with me?"

As they began to walk away, Morris turned back and gave the man a hearty, "Thank you!"

"You're velcome!" he called back.

Food For Thought

The Day I Met Daniel
(True story by Richard Ryan)

I sat, with two friends, in the picture window of a quaint restaurant just off the corner of the town-square. The food and the company were both especially good that day. As we talked, my attention was drawn outside, across the street. There, walking into town, was a man who appeared to be carrying all his worldly goods on his back. He was carrying, a well-worn sign that read, "I will work for food." My heart sank.

I brought him to the attention of my friends and noticed that others around us had stopped eating to focus on him. Heads moved in a mixture of sadness and disbelief. We continued with our meal, but his image lingered in my mind. We finished our meal and went our separate ways. I had errands to do and quickly set out to accomplish them. I glanced toward the town square, looking somewhat halfheartedly for the strange visitor. I was fearful, knowing that seeing him again would call some response. I drove through town and saw nothing of him. I made some purchases at a store and got back in my car.

Deep within me, the Spirit of God kept speaking to me: "Don't go back to the office until you've at least driven once more around the square." Then with some hesitancy, I headed back into town. As I turned the square's third corner, I saw him. He was standing on the steps of the store front church, going through his sack.

I stopped and looked; feeling both compelled to speak to him, yet wanting to drive on. The empty parking space on the corner seemed to be a sign from God: an invitation to park. I pulled in, got out and approached the town's newest visitor.

"Looking for the pastor?" I asked.

"Not really," he replied, "just resting."

"Have you eaten today?"

"Oh, I ate something early this morning."

"Would you like to have lunch with me?"

"Do you have some work I could do for you?"

"No work," I replied. "I commute here to work from the city, but I would like to take you to lunch."

"Sure," he replied with a smile.

As he began to gather his things, I asked some surface questions. Where you headed?"

"St. Louis."

"Where you from?"

"Oh, all over; mostly Florida."

"How long you been walking?"

"Fourteen years," came the reply.

I knew I had met someone unusual. We sat across from each other in the same restaurant I had left earlier. His face was weathered slightly beyond his 38 years. His eyes were dark yet clear, and he spoke with an eloquence and articulation that was startling. He removed his jacket to reveal a bright red T-shirt that said, "Jesus is The Never Ending Story."

Then Daniel's story began to unfold. He had seen rough times early in life. He'd made some wrong choices and reaped the consequences. Fourteen years earlier, while backpacking across the country, he had stopped on the beach in Daytona. He tried to hire on with some men who were putting up a large tent and some equipment. A music concert he thought.

He was hired, but the tent would not house a concert but revival services, and in those services he saw life more clearly. He gave his life over to God

"Nothing's been the same since," he said, "I felt the Lord telling me to keep walking, and so I did, some 14 years now."

"Ever think of stopping?" I asked.

"Oh, once in a while, when it seems to get the best of me But God has given me this calling. I give out Bibles. That's what's in my sack. I work to buy food and Bibles, and I give them out when His Spirit leads."

I sat amazed. My homeless friend was not homeless. He was on a mission and lived this way by choice. The question burned inside for a moment and then I asked: "What's it like?"

"What?"

"To walk into a town carrying all your things on your back and to show your sign ?"

"Oh, it was humiliating at first. People would stare and make commen ts. Once someone tossed a piece of half-eaten bread and made a gesture that certainly didn't make me feel welcome. But then it became humbling to realize that God was using me to touch lives and change people's concepts of other folks like me."

My concept was changing, too. We finished our dessert and gathered his things. Just outside the door, he paused. He turned to me and said, "Come Ye blessed of my Father and inherit the kingdom I've prepared for you. For when I was hungry you gave me food, when I was thirsty you gave me drink, a stranger and you took me in."

I felt as if we were on holy ground. "Could you use another Bible?" I asked.

He said he preferred a certain translation. It traveled well and was not too heavy. It was also his personal favorite. "I've read through it 14 times," he said.

"I'm not sure we've got one of those, but let's stop by our church and see" I was able to find my new friend a Bible that would do well, and he seemed very grateful.

"Where are you headed from here?" I asked.

"Well, I found this little map on the back of this amusement park coupon."

"Are you hoping to hire on there for awhile?"

"No, I just figure I should go there. I figure someone under that star right there needs a Bible, so that's where I'm going next."

He smiled, and the warmth of his spirit radiated the sincerity of his mission. I drove him back to the town-square where we'd met two hours earlier, and as we drove, it started raining. We parked and unloaded his things.

"Would you sign my autograph book?" he asked. "I like to keep messages from folks I meet."

I wrote in his little book that his commitment to his calling had touched my life. I encouraged him to stay strong. And I left him with a verse of scripture from Jeremiah, "I know the plans I have for you, declared the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you; Plans to give you a future and a hope."

"Thanks, man," he said. "I know we just met and we're really just strangers, but I love you."

"I know," I said, "I love you, too." "The Lord is good!"

"Yes, He is. How long has it been since someone hugged you?" I asked.

"A long time," he replied

And so on the busy street corner in the drizzling rain, my new friend and I embraced, and I felt deep inside that I had been changed. He put his things on his back, smiled his winning smile and said, "See you in the New Jerusalem."

"I'll be there!" was my reply.

He began his journey again. He headed away with his sign dangling from his bedroll and pack of Bibles. He stopped, turned and said, "When you see something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?"

"You bet," I shouted back, "God bless."

"God bless." And that was the last I saw of him.

Late that evening as I left my office, the wind blew strong. The cold front had settled hard upon the town. I bundled up and hurried to my car. As I sat back and reached for the emergency brake, I saw them... a pair of well-worn brown work gloves neatly laid over the length of the handle. I picked them up and thought of my friend and wondered if his hands would stay warm that night without them.

Then I remembered his words: "If you see something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?"

Today his gloves lie on my desk in my office. They help me to see the world and its people in a new way, and they help me remember those two hours with my unique friend and to pray for his ministry.

"See you in the New Jerusalem," he said.
Yes, Daniel, I know I will...

Thought of the Day

"We cannot, and we must not, isolate ourselves from the world in which we live and the problems it faces...The Gospel of Christ has no meaning unless it's applied to our fellow man who hurts and is in need. That's our neighbor, and Jesus said we're to love our neighbor as ourselves."

Good morning Joan, and all who are soon to follow.....

Got our outside home " parkhome specialists " workers here, started work 9am, a lot of banging as they take off lower panelling and side plasticy brickwork panelling all around our parkhome....Just taken two cups of teas out to them, they have now stopped for a short break and I briefly sat out there with them for a chat for 5 minutes...both young guys seem very nice, friendly and pleasant.....this will supposedly be a 3 day job....After the repair work needed, they will outside paint our home...said after removing the whole homes bottom panel, it was very rusty, where the damp, water had gotten through, so it really does need doing....I told guys of before we moved in, the surveyors report never showed this unexpected deterioration, nor did the previous owner's use the correct paint, which their warranty wouldn't transfer over to us. thankfully the surveyor did meet us halfway and compensated towards our now, extra costs outlay.......

Only problem they need to dismantle both outside decking steps, one from the kitchen door, the other from the living room, both lead onto the back garden decking.....I had words with them that that is ok, but not sure if they are solidly stuck or just screwed...I told them I have MS and I need to make sure that when they put them back after painting the home, they make sure they are solid, don't want to have any accidents....so I have given them both the go ahead...after saying they will be screwed back but, I still have a feeling they are stuck solid to the decking also...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special GOOD MORNING to you, Joanie and thank you for breakfast and all the goodies.  I liked the story of Daniel.

Jackie, I hope everything is finished to you specifications and is safe and solid for you.

I'll be off to greet my public at WM this morning.  But before I go I have some forms to get filled out and sent in.  And I have to empty the dishwasher and put away the dishes.

Yesterday, I got tomatoes that came from a farm about 20 miles from here so I guess it's time to start accumulating them for veggie soup.  It's easier to do them a small  amount at a time.  Next time I go to the farmers market, I'll see if I can get a small basket.  I like to buy them from the Amish farmers and then I KNOW they're local.

Lloyd we are having nothing higher than 82 this week and nights in the low 40s.  Good sleeping weather.

I hope you all have a lovely day full of whatever you choose.

Good morning everyone.
Cool here with a temp of 40...great working weather  Have a bit more wood to pile and that is it!!

Dil and I had a great time yesterday, we went fabric shopping and at 75% off we came home with $200.00+ of fabric for less than $60.00. I set her to sewing the fabric she had cut out the night before and I went to help pile wood.

Also took my van in,the  check engine light was on and thankfully it was a quick fix.

Today dil will be sewing as she is going home tonight  :(

Joan, thank you for breakfast.....need to rush and get some laundry on the go!!
Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning and a cool one it is, 48°. Got my fleece robe on and it feels good. I was all set to start reading here last night and this  darn machine froze again. Had to manually shut it down.

JOAN  would you like some of this temperature? Hac ny br window open and slept great, of course I had a light blanket on the bed. Glad I did that because it was needed.

LARRY  I had several pie tins so never missed that one. That was before glass ones became popular. The berries were some I had canned.

JANE  for 2 days the forecast was for rain/thunderstorms in this part of the state. We never got a drop of rain but other parts of the state got it.

JOAN  so much for letting someone drive your car. Hope the insurance does dot go up a lot.

HAL  I have a grandson who started doing yard work about 13. He is still at it and has his own landscaping business now. That is my daughter's younger son.

CALLIE  how wonderful for your granddaughter.

JOAN  oh goodness, seeing all the different choices for breakfast what do I want,  A little of this and a bit more of that and of yes a serving of that, too, some of the crisp bacon, too. The Day I Met Daniel is a keeper. One we all need to remember. I have copied it. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JANE  nights here will be in the upper 40's and the days in the mid 70's. My kind of weather.

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  You sure are have lots of work done on your new home.  When it's all completed your home should be "ship shape".

Lloyd--Good morning.  It's going to be in the 90s here today, too.

Good morning, Janie.  Thanks for the acknowledgement.  When will you be making the vegetable soup?

Amy--Good morning.  Piling that wood is not an easy job, I know.  The fabric you and DIL got sure was a good bargain.  Sounds like you have a full agenda today.

Good morning, Gloria.  Your new machine is freezing up?  Wonder why?  Yes--I would like some temps like you are having.  Yes, I am upset about the accident and don't think I'll let her drive my car again.  You can enjoy a diverse breakfast today.:)

I have an appointment to see my urologist at 11:00 a.m. so will have to leave about 10:00 a.m.

I liked the story of Daniel, too.  It is sunny this morning and supposed to be a nice day.  Yesterday was beautiful and perfect.  However, summer is lurking near by and will be back soon with temps. of over a 100° expected for next Monday.  I'm hoping that will change to a lower number before it gets here.

I'm putting on my hunting/gathering hat today and will be off to the grocery store later on.

Joan, I hope your car insurance rate will not go up.  I know you feel bad about the accident but I am certain your CMA feels even worse.  Glad that both of you are OK.  That is the most important thing.

Hi everyone on another beautiful clear Thursday here in South Carolina.  It is currently 67 degrees but headed up to 88 degrees.  I was just outside and the humidity is way down.

I did not feel well yesterday so spent a good deal of time laying down both during the morning and the afternoon.  I am feeling somewhat better this morning.

About 4 pm Pat drove me down to pick up my car at the mechanics.  Hopefully it is now pretty well fixed up.

It was after 6 pm before Scott got here and then we enjoyed dinner at home.  Pat had made a pumpkin pie to go with our meal as that is one of Scott's favorite pies.  He stayed until after 10 pm but I had to say good night around 9 pm.

This morning I plan on going to coffee and then the Wisdom group at the church and that should pretty much be the day although we never know what the day may bring before it is over.

Jane, what a delightful memory from Kyle's 12th birthday party as it is one that won't be forgotten
for a long time.

Joan, so sorry to read about the accident.  I will never understand why people insist on parking directly across from a neighbor's driveway.  I have the same setup here but so far have avoided backing into their vehicles but am very, very careful. I am also expecting a long and hot summer here as it is getting a very early start.  We will be into the 90's starting tomorrow.

Jackie, you are right about "expect the unexpected".

Callie, you will certainly appreciate those grab bars in your shower.  Glad you have a good handyman that can do the odd jobs for you. Those were very nice words from Emily.  Both Pat and Stacey have benefited from chiropractors for many years.

deAngel, I agree dropping the wedding cake far exceeds dropping a couple of slices of pie. Was the cake totally ruined?

Jeannie, I have the basic weather coding working based on what you sent to me but I worked yesterday trying to get the code for further information to show but finally gave up for the day as I wasn't feeling up to fooling with it.  I will put it on my list for a future project.

Carol, I hope you enjoy the iPod.

June, you are so right about the importance of social contact.  Glad you are able to do the things you do with the many opportunities provided.  I am sure your son and Dori can use a vacation.

Amy, that sounds like quite a bargain on the fabric.
