Food For Thought

A New Sacrifice to God

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:15-19

Through Jesus . . . let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise. . . . And do not forget to do good and to share with others.
Hebrew 13:15-16
Hennie was 13 years old when her parents took her and her siblings from their native Netherlands to Canada. She vividly remembers how they arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The family then took a week-long train journey across Canada to British Columbia.
Getting settled in a new land was difficult. They were initially housed in a farm building where animals had been kept. But the family trusted God, prayed hard, and worked a lot.
Looking back, Hennie gives thanks to God for carrying them through some challenging times and blessing them richlyâ€"physically, spiritually, and financially. Today Hennie is a generous supporter of Christian causes, giving back to the Lord from what he has given to her.
Today’s passage teaches us to give God a new kind of sacrifice. The animal offerings of the Old Testament are obsolete. This “sacrifice of praise” involves the attitudes of our heart and includes thanksgiving and praise that we offer to the Lord. In addition, we are instructed to “do good and to share with others,” which truly pleases our heavenly Father.
What are you offering as a sacrifice to God? Are you thanking and praising him through Jesus Christ? Are you using the resources he gave you to do good and share with others?
Father, thank you for blessing us daily and for sacrificing your only Son, Jesus, to save us. Help us to honor and please you by doing good and sharing with others. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”

Good morning everyone

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, I was up at 3 and huge fluffy flakes were floating down. Not much on the ground at the moment but it is lightly snowing still. Both dogs came in with snow on their backs and of course they want their huggies......

A day of rest here, I did get two batches of applesauce done yesterday with a lot more apples to do but not today.

Phyllis, love your "Quiet Morning "
Joan, thank you for breakfast and enjoy your family being there. As June said ,we will behave  :2funny:

Enjoy your day everyone

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning and thank you to you, Joanie.  I enjoyed the "authors".  We used to do that game when I was in school.  And the "sacrifices" and "helping others" is very pertinent also.

I'm very glad that picture today was not of Autumn leaves.  The weather report says that it's supposed to snow on top of my leaves today.  That should make some areas (the sidewalks especially) even slipperier than the rain did.  I'm not finding anything for which to be thankful and to offer praise for but I'm thinking about it!

I wish you all a very good day today!

P.S.  Amy, I hope the snow predicted for this area takes a detouf to your area.  I had about half of a busload of Canadians through my line on Friday.  They said they were from "North of Toronto".  I thought of you!

Oh my gosh Jane, I would have LOVED to be on that bus and meeting you!!! I do wish we were closer then I would help you with your leaves. If you can mulch them, think Hal had said that it is better for your lawn (free fertilizer)

We have our snow tires on and everything is in ready for snow but I really don't want a lot this year. We just found out that hubby goes for chemo this coming Fri, don't know if it will start then or to get our information on dates to go.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, no snow but lots of cold, for us, the old heater is running up a nice warm air flow.  Now I have to stick my nose out and go out and get the newspaper in......brrrrr.  I am getting to be a real sissy.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday, especially you Joanie, enjoy the family I know you must miss them.

Janie, Janie.  Cheer up my fair lady, it is only leaves and nature will take care of them, even if you don't.  And I am sure the neighbors want disown you for leaves in the yard...... ;)

Callie, I believe I owe you one of these........ :-*     just wait until next year...... ;D

Good morning everyone, raining and cooler than it has been. Wind will pick up later this afternoon and by evening we might have snow flurries.

JOAN  looks like I better learn to proof read before I post. Goodness 411 years ago I doubt planes were even thought of. 41 sounds more like it. I no longer ask my SNA to cook.  I get the apples cut up and in the slow cooker to cook overnight. She is a nice young woman but her cooking is horrible.

HAL  you too?  Oh well now you know how old I really am. No wonder the old body is giving me problems.

CHIA  thank you for the JL greeting. Love that one.

PHYLLIS  computers sure changed from the huge machines they had  to something like a smart phone and watches, wow Dick Tracy sure was ahead of the times talking to his watch.

LLOYD  saw on the news where parts of our country had some strong winds yesterday.

LARRY  I hope I never have to go back to a dial up connection. I was amazed to see the huge difference when my grandson set me up with cable.

CALLIE  oh boy, when I had a sister and BIL living in Oklahoma she would send me fresh pecans and they were so good. They sure are expensive these days.

JENNY  how much snow did you end up with?

GLORIA de  when was the last time you had your eyes checked?

JOAN  do not worry about not being here all the time, enjoy your family. They are much more important than a computer and people you never met in person. Like the rest of us you have a life away from the PC. Enjoy every minute you can. Don't forget to give Finlay a hug from his cyber aunties.

JUNE  right, we will behave  so Joan does not have to worry about us.

JANE  well look at that leaf raking as some good exercise in the fresh air.

HAL  with all the good food at those church suppers glad you had room for that pecan pie.

PHYLLIS  I have always liked seeing the mist hanging over the ponds, always wanted to take pictures of it but they never turned out good. Thank you.

JOAN  great chuckles, love those names. Food for Thought gives us something to think about, are we doing all we can?

AMY  bet your house smells great with those apples.

AMY  prayers for your hubby and the chemo.

Good morning.  A bright, chilly morning here.  The winds really blew yesterday and brought down so many leaves.  My son, David, will join your pity party, Jane.  He had just finished blowing leaves off of the driveway, walks, and porches when the wind came up.  In a very short time it looked like he hadn't done any of that.  He just sighed.  The bright side of that is it cleared away the smoke from the NC mountain wildfires.  I was really tired of coughing and coughing and......

For those of you early birds that liked today's graphic, thank you very much.

Joan, enjoy the family.  It is so nice that your GS and his lady came by for a surprise visit and I know you will enjoy Joe and his family while they are there.  My boys went through that stage, too, of not liking to be photographed.  I never got over not liking it.  Still not happy to have my picture taken and rarely look at any that have been taken in the past.  Never met a camera that liked me.  Once, years ago, I had my picture taken by a professional photographer and even my mother, when she saw the photo, didn't recognize me!  Some people just aren't photogenic.

I'm cooking a big pot of beef stew, at David's request.  It is a chilly day and just right for a bowl of beef stew, some crusty Italian bread, and a dessert of warm, poached pears with maybe a dollop of ice cream on top.  You're all invited....bring your own knives, forks and spoons, please.

Hi everyone.  It is a glorious day the Lord has made for us.  One weather report said it was 31 degrees in North Augusta but my gauge said it was 40.  However, I did notice my neighbor had frost on the top of her car.  I guess it is time to bring in the garden hoses for the winter months.  I will attend Sunday School and church this morning.  I had hoped Pat would be up to going but she doesn't so won't.  Maybe next week.  I enjoyed the football games yesterday as my teams won, i.e., South Carolina, Georgia and Clemson.  I will have a quiet afternoon of listening to Don't classical music program, rest and then watching some football games later this afternoon.

The morning has gotten away from me so I will have to come back later to add any separate comments.

Good Morning,

Sunny and cold - and windy  :( - in central Oklahoma this morning.  I didn't cover the pansies last night and they look o.k.

Thank you, Hal.  :)

Gloria,  the local Lions Club where my son is (near my hometown) is selling the pecans so I feel I'm helping them out at the same time.  However, two of his friends have joined the "hunt" for the weekend and he may not have time to go into to town and get them.   I understand.

Jane, You may remember sitting on my patio when you were here.  Because of the big cottonwood trees behind the fence, the leaves pile up in the corner by the door.  Just as I get one batch swept up - another one blows in.  I'll join you in the  :tickedoff: .

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

I've been to church and coffee hour and made a quick stop at WM to get my granddaughter a birthday card.  It's really cold out there. "They" are saying 38 but it's windy and the wind chill says it "feels like 28".  I can believe that!  It's really cold.

Hal, and everyone else, when leaves are on sidewalks and porches and they get snowed on, before they can become productive mulch they become hazardous walking.  And in a small, struggling for grass yard like mine, leaves lying there all winter do not become productive mulch.  They become killers of struggling grass.  I'm still going to have to clean them up.  I love trees but I don't much like leaves.

Callie, I do remember raking leaves when I was little but I wasn't a fan of jumping in them.  My favorite part was burning them.  I loved the scent of burning leaves and the warmth that the small fire gave.  I stayed out there with my daddy until the fire was permanently OUT!  And the scent of burning leaves could draw me to anyone's fire.  And now we're not allowed to burn them!

I wonder what I can get into today!

Callie, I saw an ad in todays paper for pecan halves, shelled for 8.99 a pound.  Wonder if they are this years crop or last years.  Sometimes they will sell their old crop at "sales prices".  Pecans have always been expensive to buy and I don't know if people will let you in on the creek beds to pickup wild pecans or not anymore.  Used to they would.  But it was hard work cracking those little hard shelled pecans.  My neighbors has two pecan trees in their back yard but I never did see many pecans on them.

Joan,  praying for healing for Joe - and strength and courage for all of you.

Hal,  there are pecan trees on our property where the boys are  but the deer and wild hogs take care of most of them.  Plus - the boys don't like to take time to gather them and I surely don't like the job of shelling/picking out the meat!   That was my husband's job back in the day.  He would put a big bowl of unshelled nuts and a nutcracker/pick next to his recliner and work on them while he watched t.v.

As it turns out,  two of son's friends joined him and his brother this weekend and he won't have time to go into town to get any.  He said there are some in the freezer at his house that I can have.  (Wish he'd told me that to begin with!!!!)
I'll get them on Thanksgiving.

Oh, how awful, Joan.... was he home or at your house?  Prayers for Joe & all of you, no question this hits the whole family hard.  Hope you have good news soon that it isn't serious, sometimes a warning is a blessing since our kids (all about the same ages)... don't think anything can get them down!

Turkey #2 in the oven, stuffed & more stuffing to bake later.... noodles & turkey simmering, giblets boiling... hey, this Butterball had the neck!  Will make the gravy in the roaster when the turkey is done & then wash the roaster & put the turkey back in to haul to gr-son's house.  This is birthday for oldest gr-son & son-in-law, tomorrow is birthday for daughter-in-law & gr-daughter, have a gr-son in law's in a couple days & son's was the 17th.  Oh, almost forgot, another gr-son in law's this week.  When we sing happy birthday I usually have a list of names we go through to not leave anyone out.... only I forgot to print it out this time.   :-[

God Bless Joe, Joan.... I'll be checking often for news.   Hugs to all.....

Cold outside here & want to let y'all know that we had that windddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd yesterday.  Jane, only 2 of us pick up leaves in my neighborhood, the wind catches at our front doors in opposite directions, I get everyone's from the north & west & she gets them from the south & west.  I totally agree that smelling them burn is a treat but never for this windy state!

Joan, I'm so sorry to hear what Joe's problem is.  Blood clots are nothing to sneeze at.  I take a blood thinner - Eliquis - to prevent clots.  If the hospital released him, the doctors must feel at least he is OK to go home and follow instructions from his regular doctor.

Best wishes to him.

I will certainly be thinking of your family.   I am on my Kindle now and I have a hard typing with the small letters.    Joy

I thought I posted this morning before I left for Church. I came back now and saw my post on note pad, highlighted, so I dumped it. A big mistake. I highlighted it but evidently did NOT copy and paste. I just can't trust my self at all, at all. I hate to see me decline like that.

Bis, I hate even more to see that your Joe has run into trouble, and I am surely praying for him. Now more than ever I think you should think seriously of moving closer to him, your daughter and their families. Life is so precious, and we should take every advantage we have of gathering together as a family. I have prayed to God for your, and our, Joe. I value him as your son...he  is one of the "good" guys, in my thinking. I just feel so sure that this is just a physical warning for Joe. My Gary had his warning, and is surviving well and happily, and Joe will too. Is Kate capable of driving back to Ala. if necessary ?  She seems so reliable with her work and mother-hood combined .We will live positively my Bis, knowing that our God is in complete charge. Hugs and love to you.

We have had a few times of very light rain this after noon, every drop is welcome. It has been a rather cool day too. I have had a sweater on all day.I'm hoping and praying that all is well and peaceful at Bis's home. It was good to know Joe was having a nice sleep..that is so healing. I'm sure our Finlay must have been quite disturbed about his father..it is hard for the young to experience illness in a parent, but he has two good strong women with him for reassurance.

I went down for my daily bandage change. They are pressing the fact that I must come down daily, since two days I did skip..not two in a row, but they must keep close tabs on us. Then home to compute and relax. Nothing happening in entertainment on Sundays, so I will have my supper and an early bed and book.

I hope you are all having a peaceful evening and I hope to be in to say Goodnight later.

June and Gloria I do have and appointment with the eye doctor on the 28th.  It was scary, not to be able to read. Lasted about 2 hours. Was strange to discriber like rainbow bubbles.

I am very tired, a friend as me to go to the Christmas Tree Shop, to day, so I got a lot of myChristmas shopping done.

Gloria de, I am happy that you were well enough today to go out shopping, but my dear friend...your health and your eyesight is far more important than shopping. Do take care of yourself my dear. There is only one YOU on this whole earth, and we need you here...relaxed and well and happy.

My supper is over, kitchen in order and bed is calling. It is only six thirty, but the body has had enough and wants to cozy down for the night. So, I will obey.

God Bless you all my dear ones. I love you greatly. Prayers will continue for Joe, and all of you.

We had our Thanksgiving & birthdays party & I knew if I didn't clean the kitchen before getting on the computer I would be too tired to do it later.  I've been so anxious for news about Joe.... and Joan, this is the "good news of the bad news", right?  Did they also warn him about sitting in the car (or anyplace) for too long?  Can't remember what they recommend about stopping every so often..... but he really needs to think about that.

I am worn out tonight, but happy.  The kids & grands are all so good to each other (and me), I feel so lucky & blessed.  Even if they weren't my family I would think they are nice people.   :smitten:  Andy's daughter is to deliver their son Tuesday.... one way or another!  She is the mother of the now 3 year old red head... and the one that had thyroid cancer just over a year ago.  So far everything looks okay but prayers are welcome~  My oldest gr-daughter flew in from Seattle with hubby & year & half little boy.  She has some permanent paralysis on one side of her face, from the Bell's Palsy she had when pregnant.

Wishing all of you sweet dreams, a peaceful night and wonderful tomorrow. I'm going to find those zzzzs that I missed out on last night.

Joanie, what a bummer.  I hope Joe gets back in good health rapidly.
He and the family will be in my prayers, as well as Tisies brood.

We had an execution of a police officer here in San Antonio today.  He was shot in the head twice by someone who stopped, walked up and shot him twice in the head.  Ironically it was within sight of the police headquarters.  He was 51 years old and a 20+ year veteran of the force.  The killer is still on the loose.

Just checking to see if there is any more news about Joe?  I hope that all is well.  Seems most of the time anyone with these symptoms and started on blood thinners would be kept in the hospital.  Sure hope he does well and can be safe to finish out the visit and get home safely.  Continued thoughts and prayers.

SHIRLEY, I had your gathering taking place on Saturday.  Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time together and enjoyed the yummy food you prepared for them.  I hope you are sleeping like a log tonight and the kitties will let you sleep.

Pleasant dreams to all,

CHUCKLES

My Bedside Table

Old age is catching up with me,
From my toes up to my head.
I felt it most while gazing
At this table by my bed.

I laid my hair piece over there,
My own has grown quite thin.
The hearing aid is next to it;
I'm deaf 'til its put in.

Also, I can't see a thing,
Without my glasses on.
They're beside my false teeth;
Yes, my own are gone.

I kinda get the feeling
As at those things I stare......
There's less of me here in this bed
Than on that table there.

Food For Thought

The Other Side
(Author Unknown)

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was leaving the room after paying a visit, and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly the doctor said, "I don't know."

"You don't know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door, on the other side of which came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice that dog? He had never been in this room before. He did not know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing: I know my Master is there, and that is enough. And when the door opens, I shall pass through with no fear, but gladness."

Thought of the Day

"Death is not the end of life; it is only the gateway to eternity. We were meant to live forever, and death is only a transition from this life to the next. The question isn't whether or not there is life after death. The only question is where we will spend eternity - either with God in that place of endless joy the Bible calls heaven, or apart from Him in that place of endless despair the Bible calls hell."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 27º here this morning and only supposed to get up to 40 today.  I think winter is finally here.  A great many of the leaves in my yard have blown up against the house and the porch steps and in the stones along the front of the house.  I think, if I have any energy left when I come home from work today, I'll try to bag the ones on the concret and however many of the others that have blown into piles.  My son said he'll take them to the disposal area where the boro uses them to make mulch.  Someone is there on Wednesday and that's when he'll do it.

Joanie, I hope Joe spent a restful night and is beginning to feel better with his medication.  Having something like that happen is never good but to have it happen on vacation away from home has to have some trauma attached.  Prayers continue.

I'll be off to Wally World this morning at 8.  I don't usually work on Mondays but since I'm working Thanksgiving morning, she gave me Wednesday off to break up the week.  I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day!

Good Morning everyone!
I thought I best check in and let you all know I am ok , just ben a Laze couch Jockey. I come in and reed
but can't rember it long enough usually to write a comment. but jane I think you should get one of those light weight leaf blowers and just use it in your path way. head them out just far enough for mother nature to take them on to your neighbors.
Amy I don't know what to tell you about snow blower.you could get a skid steer and a broom attachment .  but they cost lot of $$$. I guess just be thankful you seam to be healthy to operate the shovel and blower.
Have a great day ever one. I am going to get out of the house and try to get my dozier started and get the track back on it,and tighten it up. and then clear some paths to build some new fence so can cell pasture.

Thinking about you, Joan, and Joe, Kate, and Findlay, and praying that all of you spent a restful night.  In trying to find the bright side of all of this I am grateful that Joe had arrived there at your home and was not in some unknown town between Fla. and Ala. and trying to find help, that the hospital was close and familiar to you, that the doctors were able to treat him and assure him, and all of you, as to cause and treatment, and that he had the comfort of being near his mom and his own family during a scary time.  It could so easily have happened when he was alone and in a strange place.  God was looking out for him.  Blood clots are serious but treatable.  Now that he has had a warning sign he will know how to take care of himself.

Amy, hope the chemo session went smoothly for your DH, and for you.  Not fun to have to deal with snow removal on top of everything else....including the temporary problem with the van.  Snow is beautiful when you don't have to be out in it.  Take it easy while shoveling and blowing....too much depends on you staying healthy.

Cold, but bright and sunny here this morning.  No smoke so hopefully it will be another cough free day for me.  We are being warned of the heightened fire danger in our area now so I hope everyone around here is very careful.  It seems so strange that after we all were deluged when the hurricane came through we are now hoping for rain.  Mother Nature does like to fool with us, I think.

I hope it will be a good day for all of you.

well it is bright sunny here and 28º . Nancy made french toast for breakfast out of the home made bread she made the other day. some of it broke off when she was slicing it in sort of strips. so she batter diped
it, she put cinnamon vanilla and sugar on it (delishes). I did breakfast yesterday . Nancy has a salad shooter I used it and made hash browns sausage and eggs soft over easy and toast.

How about the weather for a convrsation subject?

Here it's very windy and cold, following yesterday's and last night's snow.  We only got about an inch accumulation but about 60 miles south of us it was a different story - anything from 10 to 44 inches.  And that's not the lake effect coming off Lake Erie, it's in the mountains east of the Hudson River.  The high winds here could possibly gust up to 40 or 50 miles per hour  :yikes:  so if you don't see me around, check on the state of Maine to see if I've stopped there.  Otherwise, maybe Ireland or England.....

Temperatures aren't expected to go much higher the rest of the week - and that means probably not above freezing.  Fortunately, my propane tanks were filled last Friday.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful clear morning with no wind and it is about 40 degrees.  We apparently won't make it to 60 degrees today and have a fire warning for this afternoon as things are so dry and the humidity is suppose to be between 15 and 20 percent.  Fortunately, there is not suppose to be much wind.  There was a grass fire about 5 miles from where we live and several homes were evacuated for a short period of time over the weekend.

Pat did not make it to church yesterday as just didn't feel up to going.

My schedule is light for today as just plan to attend my Monday noon meeting.  Depending on how Pat and I are feeling we might decide to make that trip to COSTCO that was postponed on Friday.

Joy, I hope you can get your computer problems fixed quickly.  I understand about the difficulty of typing on the small tablet keyboards.  I have found using a stylus does help as you can see better where you want to type.

June, don't forget to be kind to yourself.  We can call make mistakes like losing a posting, which I did a few days ago.  I think you do very well.

Joan, I hope Joe is feeling better today and the pain has stopped.  Will this problem cause them to shorten their visit with you?

Shirley, glad you had such a good time at the Thanksgiving/Birthday celebration.  It sounds like you have a wonderful family.

Hal, this random attacking of police officers seems to be going on all over the country.  It has to be a scary time for the police and a sad time in the history of our country.

Phyllis, we haven't had any smoke here either for the last two or three days.

Good morning everyone we had a light dusting of white overnight. Glad it was not a lot of snow because with the wind so strong it would have been a blizzard. Now on the news they guesser is saying we could have a mix on Thanksgiving day. If that happens I will call =my son and tell him I will stay home.  I would not want him to come and get me and then take me home. Then I would not trust my footing to walk on any surface that could be slippery.

PHYLLIS  yes this is weather for beef stew or chicken soup. Anything hot that makes us feel warmer. Think I will get some stew out of the freezer for later today.

CALLIE  for a good cause I would pay that for pecans, too.

JANE  I went out for a short walk yesterday and the wind was strong and cold. Like I said a short walk. Like you I miss the smell of burning leaves.

JOAN  I will pray that Joe will be OK. You and Kate and Finlay are included in my prayers.

HAL  my SIL had a cousin in Arizona who had 2 pecan trees and she had a cracker for them the opened them in halves. She would give my daughter 2 pounds of shelled halves  every year when they went there for Thanksgiving.

SHIRLEY  after the warmth we have been having yesterday with the cold and wind was a shock. The sun is shining now but doubt I will head outside today.

JOAN  darn those blood clots that happen. Thank God the clots can be taken care of.

GLORIA de  any trip to a Christmas Tree store can be tiring. So many things to see there.

SHIRLEY  glad all that work is over and you can take time to relax. Wonderful when family members can all get together.

HAL  too much shooting of policemen lately. On local news there has been reports of drive by shootings.

JOAN  with your worry about Joe you could have skipped your morning post. Bless you for being the person you are. Love My Bedside Table. A lot of folks like that these days. I copied The Other Side. Thank you for all today's goodies.

PHYLLIS  your post said it all. Wish I could explain how I feel but words escape me.

LLOYD  you are a good cook and so is Nancy.

JEANNE LEE  heard not to far from here in Conn. They had 13 inches of snow. The dusting we had here has gone already. Glad you have enough gas to keep warm.

We had a little snow Saturday. maybe an inch or two, and some is still on the ground.  We haven't had any since then, but our temps have been in the low 30s during the day.  When we left for church yesterday, my thermometer read 29 degrees.  Now, at nearly 11 am, it is 34 degrees.  You can bet I've been wearing my winter jacket!  Brrr!

Good Morning Everyone!

Another bright sunny morning, but plenty cold for folks in this neck of the woods.  Not freezing, but the heat went on as soon as I got out of bed.

Joanie, I hope Joe is doing okay this morning.  When are they headed back home?  I know they must be dreading the trip.  I sat with a pilot friend of mine at church Thanksgiving Saturday and he flew out yesterday to his home base, Detriot, then to Minneapolis/St Paul then to Amsterdam then back to the states (cant remember where he said then back to Amsterdam then to Atlanta and then he has to "commute" back to San Antonio.  He flies for Delta.  He is rapidly reaching the mandatory retirement age and he says he is going to really miss flying, he loves it.  He gets some really nice trips all over the world.

Boy how in the world did I ever get so far off a conversation point. Talk about rambling.

Amy when I lived in your part of the world I had a 1953 Ford and the starter on that thing was under the car and had a cap over the end of it that continually was getting knocked off with ice and snow and the the starter would get full of ice and snow and mess it up, I was continually having to have it worked on.  But you like me belong to an auto club which I love. I certainly get my moneys worth every year.  I could never change a battery on my cars at my age, it is almost a major project with all the stuff you have to take off to get to them.

Janie, Lloyd has a good idea there.  Get yourself a nice light weight leaf blower, they work like a charm and beats raking.  They are great to use on your porch/patio just to clean them off from the stuff that collects on them.  I think they would probably work on light snow on sidewalks, maybe up to a 1/2 inch.  Never tried one, but have used them on water on my patio.

Anyhow, hope everyone has a great day.

Jeanne Lee glad you did not get so much .hope you do not find any reason to be out in it. I remember such snows as you are talking about. one winter when I was working for the county running a motor grader . we had about 36" and blowing drifting bad. for a 1/4th mile long on one of my roads drift clear across the road.  i would set the blade sharp angle and high run in it fast as far as it would go then set the point of the blade down start the grader in reverse and turn the blade to turning and move back and stop and raise it and re set it and repeat until i was out and repeat until i got through it then back up out of it and set the blade out to the side several times until i had at least one lane clear. had a new grader with a good heater in it.but I am glad do not have to do that any more we had two way rodeos in them so if we got in trouble we could call for help, I was the one that usual went to help tough. I had more experience. older man.

Joan, I feel sorry for Joe having to travel that distance while not feeling well.  It is good that Kate is able to do the driving.

Hal, your experience with the starter on your car being underneath the car and having trouble with snow and ice reminded me of one of our Corvairs.  Those cars were lower than other cars and I think it was the muffler that scraped the top of the snow in the middle of our ribbon driveway.  The snow took the finish off the muffler but as I recall it did not cause any trouble.  I didn't have a snow blower in those days and had to shovel the drive and walk myself (I lived alone but I was much younger then!).

Here it is cold (39 deg) but the sun out and so think will put on winter coat and head out. Will not be to a grocery store. I went to Miejers about 4pm yesterday thinking people would have finished shopping. Took almost a hour to check out.

I'm home and I'm tired.  The crazies are all shopping for Thanksgiving dinner already and my lane was on the food side of the store so constantly busy.  I think I'll finish my lunch and grab a few zzzzs before I begin a project.  It's still too windy to rake leaves.

HAL and LLoyd, I've been thinking of investing in one of those gadgets that suck up the leaves into a bag you carry on your shoulder.  Then I could empty that bag in to a regular leaf bag and my son will dispose of them for me.  Maybe next year.  With Christmas coming and some other projects hollering for help, there's nothing extra this year.

Have a good day Everyfriend!

Merry Monday,

Joan, glad to see Joe is feeling somewhat better.  Good thoughts for their trip home.

Jane,  maybe you should put the leaf bagger on your Santa list.

Sorry to report that everyone will have to settle their own issues because I didn't go OTL with the Church Ladies yesterday.  I'm glad I didn't because I would have missed a phone call I never expected to get.

A year ago just about now,  my dearest and longest-time friend in Amarillo called to tell me she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.   Her mother had died from complications of this disease so, naturally, my friend - and everyone else - was quite concerned.
I'd had no more contact with her until yesterday - when their phone number showed on my Caller ID.
Almost hated to answer because I was so sure something had happened to her.
I was thrilled when it was MB herself!  She said that medicines have slowed the disease's progress and, while she certainly has problems, she is still capable of an articulate conversation.  We visited for almost 2 hours and I'm sure we could have gone a couple of more if she hadn't begun to tire.

Then, last night, I had text messages coming at me from every member of the family except Ellen!  Both sons had gotten deer with many-pointed antlers.  One dil had agreed that the head could be mounted - and would be hung on the patio as a BBQ Buck.  The other dil was "thinking about it".
They also got a 675 pound wild boar that had been caught in a trap the property renter puts out.  Apparently, it was missing an eye - so the other son decided they should mount that head - with a patch over the eye - and hang it as a Pirate Party Pig to go along with the BBQ Buck.
Needless to say, that didn't go over quite as well - and the silly texts were flying back and forth.
Such fun to be in on all of it.

One son will make jerky from his venison.  The other one will donate his to some local Shelter kitchens that use it for chili and other dishes.  Local "gourmet" chefs take turns preparing meals at the shelters and always manage to make something delicious from whatever is in the pantry at the time.

Need to start prepping for making Thanksgiving dinner contributions.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day

Callie, for the past two Christmases, I've been the recipient of a cooler full of venison, compliments of my SIL and delivered by my daughter.  I've always loved venison and thanks to the efforts of my growing son, my husband and my FIL (my MIL refused to cook it or eat it) I always had a freezer full.  The not only got their Whitetail Deer in PA, they went to Wyoming and brought back Mule Deer.  I became very creative.  It makes not only good chile, but good stew, swiss steak and anything else that calls for hamburger or beef.  I tend to think this is one of the reasons I'm still healthy.  There is not as much fat on venison as there is on beef.

What fun you must have had, sharing all that banter!

Bis, I'm sure we all feel concern about Joe's traveling home tomorrow, but I can understand his needs to be back in familiar areas where his own doctor is. Kate strikes me as a very sensible and clear minded lady, so you can relax in that area. Prayers will continue today for renewed strength in Joe, and tomorrow for a safe and relaxed journey home. Can they make it in one day ?

I had a weird night. Read till 9 p.m. then slept soundly till 11 p.m. which I felt should be morning..no luck..but a nice soft rain was still falling, thanks be to God. Went back to bed and to sleep, woke again 4 a.m. so just stayed in bed till sleep arrived again. I woke to daylight, and took my first pill, back to bed and felt I would spend the day there...no way...body got restless so I went to the recliner and started the morning prayers..didn't get far, till I was sound asleep again. Finally at 9 a.m. I woke, feeling like I could start to live again.Took so more pills and had a light breakfast. Finished morning prayer..even sang a hymn, and here I am. Still in p.j.'s and robe, and in no hurry to dress. Oh, I did make my bed.

Jane, I feel like a real slug..you have done a days work at W.M. and home to contemplate the leaves. I'm glad it is too windy for you to go out there and wear yourself down.  I do wish you would try Hal's method of mulching, you work too hard as it is, without that raking to do. I tried venison one time, but didn't like it...a bit too strong for my taste, I also tried wild Goose...same thing..a very strong flavor. Being raised in Minn., most every one hunted, but no one in my family. We ate more pork back there. Lots of small farms where they raised pigs...easy to raise and hearty health-wise.

I'm ready for a lay-down again. Be back later.

Thanks HAL.  I bookmarked the page but I try not to ask my kids for so much at Christmas.  They do more for me the rest of the year than I think they should.  I know they don't think of it as "having" to take care of Mom but if I can do it myself, I do.  They are all still paying back college loans and they have their own lives to live.  I love them and they love me and I don't want that to change and have them think of me as "NEEDY".  I'm not!

I will look at that page again and I'll probably get one of those when I can.

June, to mulch the leaves you have to have a lawn mower with a mulcher and I don't even own a lawn mower any more.  I haven't mowed my own grass for many years.  And to just leave them in this area, they get wet, heavy and end up killing whatever grass there is.  Ours isn't like Texas.

Also, right now, I have a tree that has to come down before it falls down and damages something in the process.  I have an estimate and I'm going to see if he can just take the tree down and then grind the stump in the Spring after I get my income tax refund!  Hot Dog, that's where my money go-o-oes!

Bis, how nice for Finlay and Kate, and GailAnn that they can meet and enjoy one another again. Does Finlay still have memories of her ? I so glad Joe can sleep..that is a great healer, so I'm thanking God for that favor for Joe.

Janie, o.k. no more nagging you on mulching the leaves. Different States do require different gardening, for sure. Home ownership can sure eat up the pay checks, but they are worth the cost. I miss my last home, but it was time.

I'm still feeling a bit rocky, so plan on staying home, except for going down for a bandage change around 3 p.m. Seems less crowded at that time, and I'm hoping my prescriptions have come in, so two birds with one stone.

Tomorrow will be lunch about 11:o'clock, Choir at 1:30, and Balance and Mobility at 2:45, and that will be it for me. I hope I make all three appointments.

We were to have 67 degrees today in Stanton, and down to 51 tonight. I love this kind of weather. Some rain, some sun, and beautiful skies in between.

Bis, we will be thinking of Joe and Kate and Finlay, and praying they have a safe journey home, as you will be doing also, I know.

Holding good thoughts and saying prayers for Joe and family.  I hope the drive back to Fairhope goes smoothly and it won't be too hard for Joe.  Hugs and prayers for you, JOAN.

JANE, we owned one of the bagged blower/vacs to clean up leaves, etc. and sadly I must tell you it was not all that it was cracked up to be.  It was a name brand with a decent sized motor...... FYI.

Tomorrow we are to meet up with some old Senior Net Friends, Eugene and Nadia Thomas in Black Hawk.  Watching the weather tonight is not making it look very good for either of us driving.  They will be driving from Breckenridge and is from Denver.  Might have to re-evaluate this decision in the morning.

Pleasant dreams to all,

Jenny

...sorry to hear of your Joe, must have been rather frightening for your Finlay at the time...but glad he has now been released from hospital...wishing all a safe journey back home...just sorry this trip..what should have been an enjoyable occasion turned into a nasty and frightening medical issue..

JENNY....

JANE S....
...not to poke my nose in where its not wanted but...do you have hire shops like UK have...maybe to hire  a blower would come out less than forking out unwanted money as to buying one...of course I dont know how much these so called hire companies charge on a daily basis, just a thought...

JEANNE LEE....
...if you get blown into England, I can guarantee during the last few days....you would have gotten blown right back...

We in UK have just been getting over storm Angus, heavy rain and high winds....caused a lot of flooding in some parts of our end of country...but not where we live....not really bothered me as I have been tucked up warm and dry at home, even Toby has been limiting his walk down to one a day, when lucky to get that short break in the weather which didn't last...

CHUCKLES

Kindergarten Tour

While leading a tour of kindergarten students through our hospital, I overheard a conversation between one little girl and an x-ray technician.

"Have you ever broken a bone?" he asked.

"Yes," the girl replied.

"Did it hurt?"

"No."

"Really? Which bone did you break?"

"My sister's arm."

Food For Thought

Not Everything We Hear Is True
(By Rocky Henriques)

Have you ever noticed how many times those who know the Bible the least, and spend the least amount of time studying it, seem to know so much about it? Take celebrities for example. In many cases, all that is required is that the celebrity has an opinion about it. It doesn't really matter that he or she has never been exposed to sound Biblical teaching, or has any other credentials that would qualify him or her to make such statements.

The subject of Heaven and Jesus being the Only Way is just one of those topics which we frequently hear them pontificating on. They will boldly declare that Jesus can't possibly be the "only way." And the audience applauds.

I agree that there are "many ways," but they all need to be asking where those ways take them. Only one road takes us to Heaven. How do we know this? Because the Bible says so. And if I believe what the Bible says about that, then I've got to believe what it says about my sin and my eternal destination unless I repent and turn to Christ.

Not many audiences, including those in many churches, would applaud if Oprah said, "Jesus is the only way to heaven, and we need to follow Him."

Sort of reminds me of an old story about a motor cycle mechanic who was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop. The surgeon had come in so the mechanic could take a look at his bike.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?"

The surgeon walked over to the mechanic. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take valves out, fix 'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic... "Try it with the engine running."

Just because the mechanic could repair a motorcycle engine did not mean that he could perform open-heart surgery. The lesson, I believe, is that just because I've made a movie, or thrown a few touchdowns, or even won an election, does not mean that I am qualified to give a definitive word on what the Bible says about Heaven or how to be saved.

I am certainly not saying that the only ones qualified to comment about the Bible or even have an opinion about it are preachers and Bible scholars. But when it comes to commenting on spiritual matters, shouldn't we at least be familiar with what the Scripture says? Shouldn't we question the source of our information before blindly believing anything that comes across the airwaves or in an email?

We should all be careful what we believe. Not everything we hear is true.

Good morning everyone
Tis a great morning.....woke up and I don't have a date with either snowblower or shovel  We still have high winds and I hope they soon die down.
Just a chiropractor appointment for hubby today and that is it. All I need to do is coral those darn dust bunnies and get a load of wood in....then go sew :)

Good morning Lloyd.

Joan, thank you for breakfast and sending prayers for a safe journey home for Joe and his family.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Lloyd.  No rain here, but it's chilly.

Amy--Good morning.  The dog got me up this morning--she needed to go out.  Since we have no fences, she has to be taken out.  At home, they just open the door to the fenced back yard.  Thanks for your prayers for Joe and family's trip home.  I'm glad you don't have to dance with the shovel or snow blower.

Good Morning Everyfriend.  The wind has died down and that means that when I get home from my shift at WM I'll have to bag the leaves that have blown up against the house and are covering the sidwalks in front.  That's OK.  At least I don't have to rake them.  They are already in piles.

I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day!  Wish me smiles in my line today.  It's going to be another busy one with people shopping for Thanksgiving fixings.

My prayers, too, for a safe trip home for Joe and family and a speedy recovery for Joe.  A rather scary warning!

Good morning everyone. Got a phone call from my new doctor last evening with the results of the MRI. My spinal column something channel? Is narrowing and some other things I don't remember and will be sending me to a Neurologist. In the background of the MRI they said one of my kidneys looks like it is shriveling. That was not what they were looking for so will need more Xrays for that. My goodness what kind of doctors have I been seeing the last 20 years that they would not listen to me. Just on old woman hypochondriac?

JOAN  first thing, how is Joe? How is Finlay reacting to his energetic Dad being rushed to the hospital?

HAL  the yard group that comes here uses leaf blowers to clean the parking lot of leaves or whatever in out there. It might work on a light powdery snow but not on some of the heave wet snow we can get.

LLOYD  in the blizzard in 1978 on the street where I lived then (dead end street) they used a front end loader to finally clear the drifts from that road. All the neighbors were out sheering the man  on. We were snowed into that street for 5 days and could not get out.

JOAN  sorry to see Joe's visit cut short but being home he can see his own doctor. I wish them a safe trip.

CALLIE  glad the meds are helping your friend, Alzheimer's is terrible, I had on sis in law who died from it and one DIL's Mother did, so sad. Both were active and full of life. Looks like your sons had a good hunting trip.

JANE  my son has some permits to allow hunters in his orchard in deer hunting season. He knows the ones he gives one to. Every one who gets a deer will give him some venison, they always invite me when they cook it and it is good when cooked right.

JENNY  hope you get to meet Eugene and Nadia. I wonder if they remember their trip here to New England. Nadia had sent me some pictures of her wedding to post in SN but that was when the site shut us out and I never heard from them again.

JOAN  prayers follow Joe, Kate and Finlay on their drive home. Thought of the Day is so true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Cold this morning!  At least for us here in the south it is cold.  Nothing much happening today.  Some household laundry and some pre-Thanksgiving day cooking.

I'm sure you do miss Joe, Kate and Finlay, Joan.  I know that you will worry about them as they make that long drive back home.  I wish them a safe trip.  Had Finlay grown a lot since you had last seen him?

It's good that you changed doctors, Gloria, and hopefully now you are on the right path to treating your back pain.  My Tom had one of those doctors, too.  Didn't pay much attention and didn't seem to be inclined to track down any thing that was bothering Tom until I finally made an appointment and went in to see his doctor with a list in my hand.  I asked questions and outlined problems that I could see happening and only then did the doctor line up several specialists for us to see.  That doctor has since left the medical group that I go to.....I'm not surprised if he was so inattentive to all of his patients.

Jane, we have one of those vacuum leaf baggers, too.  My candid opinion is that you shouldn't waste your money on getting one.  We used it a couple of times but it wasn't satisfactory.  It was tedious and the leaves would clog up the tube so you had to stop often to clear it and it didn't take long till you had to empty the bag and that was a pain.  If you have only a few, smallish leaves, mulching with the lawn mower is fine....if you have a lot of heavy leaves, raking and bagging is the only way to get rid of them completely.  Fortunately, my property has a stand of woods behind us and David blows, or carts, a lot of the leaves down there where they break down and make a good mulch under the trees.  In the front yard we bag them for the town to pick up.

I must get some breakfast and get the day started.

Hi everyone.  I am thankful for this new and beautiful 41 degree morning.  The sun is shining brightly and the trees now have all the colors of fall.  I did bring in my garden hoses for the winter yesterday afternoon and put my Impatient plant in the garage as it was predicted to get down to 29 degrees last night.  I have no idea whether it got that cold or not.

I have a routine doctor's appointment at 10:30 this morning and his office is 30 minutes or so from where I live.  This GP insists on seeing us every four months whether we need to be seen or not or he will not remain our doctor.  I guess this is good for us and will comply as I do like him.  On the way back I will finally stop at COSTCO to pick up my new glasses and buy some things we need.  Pat wants to get a small turkey to fix so we can have dressing and the normal Thanksgiving meal.  I was in favor of just getting a turkey breast and a couple turkey legs to fix but was overruled. Scott is bringing the pumpkin pie.

Gloria, I hope the snow stays away so you can enjoy Thanksgiving with family and not alone.  Glad you have gotten the report from the doctor even if the results are not what you would have liked.  Personally, I don't want to be kept in the dark about my health situation.

Lloyd, I remember one Christmas when we had so much snow that our dirt country road was drifted in.  Pat and I were dating and she couldn't get back to Independence where her family lived so she spent Christmas day with us.  Dad and I had to take his Farmall tractor to the highway about a mile away and pick her up as she has gotten a ride that far as the highway had one lane open.  It was her first and last experience standing on the draw bar of the tractor. However, it is a great memory.

Joan, glad to read that Joe was feeling some better and sure hope they have an uneventful trip back home.  Comforting to know what with cell phones help can be summons if needed on the way but sure hope such help won't be needed. Ten hours is a long time in the car.

Callie, what a nice Thanksgiving surprise with the phone call from your friend and to know the Alzheimer's has been slowed. Your son's sound like they are good hunters.  I bet the shelter kitchens can make good use of the donated meat.

JaneS, I can't think of a term less suited to you than "needy".  I am sure your kids love doing things for you just as you love doing nice things for them.

Jackie, good to read that the storm Angus didn't impact your area with the flooding.

Good morning, Gloria.  It's mighty chilly this morning for FL--it was 48° when I got up.  We told Finlay what was wrong with his Dad--but didn't make it sound scary.  Glad you finally found a doctor who is taking some action.

Phyllis--Good morning.  Oh my, yes, Finlay has grown.  He's as tall as I am and weighs five pounds more than I do.

Good morning, Larry.  I think some of these doctors want more frequent appointments so they can "line their pockets".  We had a combination Thansgiving meal and Finlay birthday celebration.  I'll eat leftovers on Thanksgiving.

Hi Lloyd.

Jane, I'll jump in with the rest & say "we had one of those blower/baggers & was worthless".  I do highly recommend those large yellow scoopers for leaves (just Google that), best money I ever spent but I did not do my research.  Can find them from just under $5 for a pair & some of the places you think would be cheapest has double the price.  Trust me, if the wind piles the leaves up for you they can be bagged in a few minutes.

Larry, love the story about "taking the tractor to the highway to pick up".... I was never so lucky to ride the tractor but do recall having the tractor pull the car out of the mud!  No question in my mind that some of my happiest memories are when things went wrong & we all pulled together to make them right.

Callie, I woke up to 55°, a little rain & now bright sunshine.  We've already had our Thanksgiving & I'm ready to make "one more trip" out camping but do not want to get tangled in holiday traffic.

New baby due today so lots of excitement & tension.  Prayers welcome, a high risk baby since the mother had cancer & the cure less than 2 years ago... Doctor gave the all clear, so far all's well, they are getting the boy they prayed for.  Hey, we are geared up to worry, right?

Have a beautiful day, Every Friend.....

Joan, I didn't bring home any leftovers so will celebrate with the best carry out I can find.  Was invited to #1 son's house but will be chaos with the new baby & don't know how many family & friends of the kids.  This family gathers up anyone that is alone.  I am needing peace & quiet.

Good morning,
"The best laid plans of mice, men......and Callie often go astray".

As I wrote yesterday,  Plan A was to start prepping for Thanksgiving contributions - which I planned to "leisurely" stretch over a couple of days.

Then Miss Emily e-mailed that she had some appointments today not far from me - how about lunch?  Of course, I said,  "Sure - come here for soup and sliders (that I had in the freezer)".

At 4:30 yesterday afternoon,  Sir Carson called to say he would stop by and pick me up on his way home from OSU and would be here about 6:00 p.m.
Between then and time to watch Dancing With The Stars,  I:
made the graham cracker crust for The Chocolate Dessert,
baked the cornbread and biscuit dough (I just spread it in a pan) for the dressing,
ate dinner, and
made the cream cheese layer for the dessert.

I would have finished that after DWTS but I discovered I had gotten cook-and-serve pudding mix instead of instant.
That meant a trip to the grocery store after the beauty shop this morning.

Miracles of miracles - I found a parking place not too far from the door and a checker waiting for someone to come through his line!

I'll finish the dessert but will take the "groceries" for the dressing to son's house and finish it tomorrow or Thursday morning.

After Emily leaves,  I'll pack to be away for at least two nights.   As far as I know, I won't have to do any laundry - thank goodness.

I plan to take my Tablet but, in case I don't get back in,  here's wishing everyone:

HAPPY :pumpkinpie:  THANKSGIVING

.....or 4th Thursday, whichever applies to you.

Joan, isn’t it strange how quiet a house is after family leaves.  Tom and his family usually stayed with me when they came to town and they might have stayed a weekend and when they left, this place was dead.

I woke up to 18 degree temperature this morning and it’s only about 35 degrees now and the sun is shining.

I had my hair cut this morning, then a routine appointment with my cardiologist â€" or nurse practicioner .  All is well but they want to do further testing that they haven’t done for a couple of years.  My blood pressure is good.  I think I’ll have them wait for the further testing until 2017 and mt dentist wants to put a crown on a tooth too.  Too many health problems in my old age!!!

I hope Joe, Kate and Finlay's trip home is uneventful.

SHIRLEY, PHYLLIS, HAL, LLOYD...Thank you for the input about the leaf eaters/grabbers.  You two ladies both voiced a problem that I'd already thought might be true.  I think I'll hold off on that but I've seen those "yellow" things advertised and that's in my price range NOW.  I'm going to find some of them.

And now, I'm off to bag leaves.

Gloria, I'm so happy that  you've found someone who is tuned to your needs.  I hope they are able to help you get some relief.

Callie--You are a busy, busy bee.

Mary Ann--Yes--it's so quiet now that they all left.  I hope all is well when you get to your additional medical appointments/tests.

Janie--Hopefully after you bag leaves you can get a nap.

Well - not as busy as I thought I'd be.

About 5 minutes after Emily left - with the "groceries" for the dressing - her Dad called.

They thought I was going to Thanksgiving with other son/dil and made plans with dil's family for tomorrow that Carson didn't know about.  If Emily did - she didn't mention it.

So I am now going/coming home with son/dil who live here - and Emily's Dad will tell her to bring the groceries back to me after her appointment.

I think I'll take a nap!!!!

Oh Callie, bless your heart.  Isn't it strange how family treats US like kids instead of the head of the clan.  I do realize that all my brood are now grandparents and my Grandkids are parents and our days of doing all the planning are long past.  But, please lets us be in charge of ourselves.  Now, something that will put a smile on everyones face, I know it did me.

I won't get into the reason I didn't know local son/dil were for sure going.  Going with them would have been the original plan all along but the reaction I was getting from them was the reason I went ahead and made other plans.
I guess I was supposed to "know" about the plans with dil's family because it's an annual thing.  My choice to never have gotten involved so I don't automatically remember.

What really annoys me is that nobody makes a definite decision until the last minute.  I'm pretty flexible but, by this time, I think they should all realize I truly do need to plan ahead.

Oh well, nobody's going to change at this point.  C'est la vie.

I have found through the years that  people tend to respond differently
to situations...   for example:  like
planning a head ...   When I was younger I functioned best "playing it by ear", " going with the flow, and or seeing which way the tide turned"....

And that worked real well for me, for
much of my life.    But since I reached
the age of 70.... My MO has changed
dramatically.
And I am very uncomfortable being
surprised by last minute plans.

In fact,  I have learned to stop and think
a bit before committing myself to any spur of the moment,  last minute suggestion...
(when at one time,  I would have been
leading the pack!)  ....

So I understand Callie how upsetting last minute changes in plans can be....
Very frustrating and upsetting...

There are many ways to approach  "changing
situations",  in the future...  so perhaps you
need to determine what you need to
prepare for in the future with the
people who have a different MO then
the what you are comfortable with.

My now having to depend on other people makes the task  "doing things my way"  a
little more complicated and frustrating....
but Peaceful co existence can be accomplished
as long as I continue to keep
my well being a high priority.
And not let that slip by...

(This is when I miss "not have my own
wheels" the most...   other wise I could come
and go at my own speed.)

Try not to get discouraged Callie..
And be strong.

I did two more bags of leaves this afternoon and then I went to the store to get the last minute stuff I needed for my pies and for just existing.

Shirley, I looked up your leaf thingies and in the process discovered two things I want.  One is a LEAF CLAW.  It's sort of like the yellow things but you don't have to bend over so far.  I can't find them right now anywhere but Amazon but my local hardward store guy was VERY interested and they are in his order book.  The other thing was called a LEAF BUTLER and it's a doodad that goes in a leaf bag and then pops open to keep it ope for putting leaves in.  I'll have both of those items for next leaf season.  My birthday is in April and that's a perfect time to get them both.

I have to go feed the doggies and scrounge up some supper for me and then I'm going to mix up the pumpkin pie filler and have it in the fridge for easy doing tomorrow.  The pie crust is already mixed, rolled and in the pie tin.

Enjoy your evening...even you Callie!

Callie--I used to be much more flexible than I am now.  I like to know what the definite plans are at least 2 weeks ahead.

Sandy--Guess you and I feel somewhat alike.

Janie--Hope you get the leaf "thingeys" you want.  You're sure organized in getting things ready to finish making the pie.

Sandy,  thank you so much for the encouraging words.

I'm really not upset - kinda getting a giggle out of how everyone was confused about who said what to whom.

Positive side is that I have everything ready for my "contributions" to the dinner - and will be able to sleep in tomorrow and Thursday while everyone else is dashing about at the last minute.
I can also sleep in my own bed, watch what I want on t.v.  and don't have to pack a suitcase.

And - quite frankly - 4 or 5 hours with the Group will be plenty.

I had another bad night last night. Leg woke me up with a bad pain, so I got up and paced the floor till it was better, then I slept later this morning.

Had a beautiful surprise visit. Gary called me about 9 o'clock, just as I was getting ready to visit with you all, saying he and Dori were coming over. in 20 minutes. Well!! Not only did Gary and Dori arrive, but my Grand son Ryan and his wife Ricki from McCall Idaho, but my three GREAT Grands. Zachary, Jeremiah John and Ashley June. Ages sis, three and one year. Wow !!!!! I was overwhelmed with Joy. They stayed till about eleven, then I had a recovery time..I really was overwhelmed with happiness and weakness. Ricki leaned over and whispered if I was getting tired, and I had to admit I was, so she packed them all up and they left. I am still up there floating around on cloud nine.

So i had lunch, on to choir practice, then to Balance and exercise, then to our Clinic. I told the nurse how bothered I had been with my leg, and I wanted to remove the bandage and let the leg breathe for a change. I just felt it needed oxygen. She agreed with me. I told her my doctor would see me tomorrow, so she wanted me to wear a breathable bandage, then come down and see her in the morning so she could check it out before the doctor arrived.

So that was my day. Now I am on to see how our Joe is doing.  I pray they are home by now, safe and sound.

Gloria, I thank God that you have a new doctor that is truly following up on your physical ailments. That is half of our healing…just knowing that we are in good hands, and a person that really cares.  I wish you God's best blessings on good health and lack of pain.

I hope Bis hears from Kate before I go to sleep tonight. I know God is watching over them all, but it will be a comfort to hear they are safely home.

CHUCKLES

Umbrellas

One day on his way to work, my husband stopped at the cafeteria as it began to rain.

Forgetting that he hadn't brought an umbrella, he reached for the nearest one when he got up to leave.

"That's my umbrella," a woman immediately scolded.

Abashed at his mistake, he walked on to his office. He was drenched by the time he arrived.

Once there, he discovered three umbrellas that he had left in the office over the months, and he decided to bring them home at the end of the day.

That afternoon he ran into the same woman who had confronted him earlier.

She looked at the umbrellas, then at him, and tartly remarked: "You did real well for yourself today, didn't you?"

Food For Thought

Seize the Moment!

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthian 5:16-6:2

Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2
Ivan was a university student in Moscow who called in many times during our live radio broadcasts. He seemed genuinely interested in Christianity and had many questions about Christ’s teaching. But when he was invited to make a commitment to Jesus, Ivan rejected it outright: “I’m too young for something like that! I have my whole life ahead of me.”
Does Ivan’s logic sound familiar to you? Regardless of our age, many of us still look for an excuse to delay making a commitment to God, thinking that we have lots of time on our hands.
You probably have heard the ancient saying “Carpe diem.” It’s a Latin aphorism that can be translated as “Seize the day.” Sayings with similar meanings can be found in many cultures.
The Bible also tells us about the urgency of making our commitment to God. The apostle Paul urges us not to delay when it comes to our salvation. We are privileged to live in an age of grace, when the gospel is proclaimed throughout the world. That is something to be thankful for. But it may not be that way forever. Also, we never know when our life on this earth will endâ€"whether by illness or accidentâ€"slowly or suddenly. But it will endâ€"when we die or when Christ returns.
So I urge you to believe in Jesus and find peace with God today, before it’s too late!
Father, give us wisdom to appreciate the opportunities we have. Let us lean on Jesus for our salvation today and always. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Keep love in your heart.  A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.  The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and richness to life that nothing else can bring.

Good morning, Janie.  Now that they are home safely, I threw that worry in the trash.  I can almost smell the wonderful aroma of those pies baking.

Good morning everyone.
Tad chilly here with a temp of +4 ° F....but lovely clear skies.

Nothing planned just try and put those dust bunnies away, maybe pick up the vehicle from the garage and do a bit of sewing.

I won't be here on Thur morning as we have an early appointment in the city for 7:30 am. Please say a wee prayer for hubby as they are going to shock his heart to see if they can get him back into rhythm.

Jane, will check the hidey hole later for some pie

Jackie, good morning

Joan ,good to hear the kids made it back home alright.
Thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  4° is bone chilling COLD.  I will say extra prayers for your husband that when they shock his heart tomorrow it gets back into rhythm.

This is errand day--so I'll see where I'll end up.  Maybe breakfast out.:)

pumpkin pie in the oven...smelling wonderful!  OK Amy, I'll put some in the Hidey Hole.  I'll also say a prayer for your hubby for a successful procedure.

My Canadian grandson is in Baltimore to celebrate his second Thanksgiving this year.  This one is with his mother and sister.  He says dual citizenship is one of the blessings of Thanksgiving.  You get two of them.

Today is going to be clear but cold, maybe not  even reaching freezing.  But it's the best day for travel for folks gathering with friends and family.  And since tomorrow is expected to have some rain, mixed snow and rain, and possibly sleet, the roads will probably be crowded today.

I sit here in my nice warm and dry and quiet house and thank the Lord that I no longer have to worry about preparing and serving a feast for ten or more - some years including the appetites of three teenagers and two outdoor workers.  They sure could eat!

Hi everyone.  We have another repeat day of the last several, i.e., clear, cool and no rain.  We are to get into the mid-60's today.  I had a good doctor's visit yesterday.  My blood tests were good and my platlet count was even up 3 points.  I must have been the last appointment for the morning as the doctor stayed in the room with me and talked a lot.  While there they gave me the Prenair 13 pneumonia shot.  Apparently the pneumonia shot I had about 8 years ago covered 23 different kinds of pneumonia and this covers and additional 13.

This morning I plan a quick trip to pick up checks at the Credit Union and stopping to get a birthday card for Christian, our Nigerian "Grandson's", 20th birthday.  He is in college in Southern Georgia.  He called us a couple of weeks ago and said he was really enjoying college.  He is just a freshman as he immigrated legally only a few years ago and was held back in High School a year because of the difference in the school system he had attended in Nigeria and that here in the US.  We met Christian at our church and befriended him and he asked if we could be his American grandparents, which delighted us.

Pat placed are second Walmart grocery order online yesterday and I will pick it up after 3 pm this afternoon.  We expect Scott to join us for dinner this evening and then have Thanksgiving dinner and spend the day with us tomorrow.  Pat decided that rather than deal with a turkey this year we would have one of the Rotisserie chickens from COSTCO, which I got yesterday when I stopped to pick up my new glasses and a few other items there.  She has the rest of the menu for tomorrow planned and we will do whatever preparation we can today.

Joan, I think it was very wise to explain to Finlay why his dad is not feeling well.  That will help him not build it into something it isn't.  Hard to beat homemade lasagna.  It is one of my favorites.  I was glad to see that Joe and family had arrived home safely.

Shirley,  you didn't really miss much by not getting to ride on a tractor draw bar.  The only broken bone I have ever suffered was falling from a load of hay and hitting my arm on the draw bar of the tractor when my dad stopped and I lost my balance.  You are right about pulling together.  Hope all is well with the new little boy and his mother.

Callie, much better to spend time with the grandchildren than cooking.  I agree with you on the 4 or 5 hour visiting duration.

June, what a nice Thanksgiving visit for you getting to see your grandchildren.  Being around those little ones with all that energy can be very exhausting and I see you had that reaction.  I hope you had a better night last night without the leg pain.

Hal, it was Herb Holden I was remembering about the computer advise.  At least it was a name starting with an "H".

Sandy, like and you Callie I also like to plan ahead.  If I don't I find I don't get much done.

JaneS, keeping the leaf bag open was always a problem.  Fortunately I no longer have to worry about leaves.

Amy, your poor husband has sure had a lot of health problems during these last few months. I hope the shock treatment solves that problem.

Good morning everyone,I went grocery shopping yesterday. Son called me and asked if I would like to go and I said yes. First time I have been to the market in almost a year. Felt good to see some new things and I stocked up. Of course I was worn out when I got home. I do like him being retired.

PHYLLIS  this new doctor really moves. She said she wanted to send me for an Ultrasound and after I got home yesterday I got a call from the place to go to. Will have to check for transportation and make an appointment. A good doctor is so hard to find these days. Makes me wonder where they got the license to practice.

LARRY  seems like the last 2 doctors I had did not care to take care of their patients, just go every 4 months so  they could make money.

JOAN  I think I was worried more about Finlay with Joe going to the hospital. It is hard for youngsters to understand when a parent gets rushed to the hospital. You must have heard from Joe otr Kate by now, how is he doing? I hope Kate did not drive straight though but stopped overnight.

SHIRLEY  all I have to do later is make stuffed celery. Have the cream cheese out of the fridge so it will soften. That I can do sitting down. I think all mothers worry even when there is no need to. Pray the new baby is healthy and mother is doing great.

CALLIE  you were really busy getting everything ready yesterday. Was at the market yesterday in early afternoon and wow was it crowded. Have not been in a market before a holiday in several years.  Enjoy the family gathering.

JANE  I had managed to get all my appointments in spring or autumn and now I have some during the winter. I tell all those I have appointments with in the winter that if it is snowing I will cancel. I am cautious of who I travel with on winter roads. New doctor asked why I changed and when I told her she was shocked he could call himself a doctor.

HAL  that is the best I have seen is a while. Nothing like a puppy to make every one happy. Sure made my day watching it.

CALLIE  I like planning ahead but at times like yesterday I jumped at the chance to go to the market. Of course today I feel it but I did enjoy being with my son.

JUNE  now that was a wonderful surprise to have your family there. I know you enjoyed seeing your great grands, especially the baby. Thank you, I am glad to finally find a doctor that cares for her patients.

JOAN  glad they are home and now Joe can see his own doctor. You are all in my prayers. Hot cereal for me with blueberries. Cute chuckles. Food for Thought is another keeper. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  dun is shining here but still windy and in the 30's.

AMY  prayers for your hubby tomorrow. I hope it works for him.

JEANNE LEE  we have drizzle in the forecast for tomorrow. As long as it is above 32° the roads should just be wet.

LARRY  wonderful that Christian keeps in touch with you.

JACKIE  good morning/afternoon for you.

Amy, when my husband had the shock to get his heart in rhythm, they asked me to stay with him to keep him calm.... until time to do the deed, when I was escorted out.  The nurse explained the shock would "raise his body off the table".  He was knocked out to do it. They used the paddles several times & then, with the tech for pacemaker/defib in the room, used that device and it did the trick.  Cas was concerned that they used up his battery time but they insisted it did not.

After he got home & for days he tried to hide the fact he was a little upset that his chest hurt.... when he finally told me what was bothering him I told him what the nurse said about shock being so hard it lifted him from the bed and he was so relieved there was a simple cause for his pain and not "something gone wrong".  They should have warned him what to expect... so keep that in mind if they don't tell your husband he will be sore.  (((hugs))) to you both.

Joan, glad the kids got home safely & you got a nap in .... The happy visit turned nightmare must have been very difficult and wearing on nerves & body.  Extra R & R for you a must!

Janie, about the leaf scoopers, I have a big plastic tub on wheels that I put a bag liner in (use strips of duck tape to hold the edges to the sides... I rip off about 8" of tape & then tear it into 3 long strips to hold down the top & then use one of those strips to wrap around the top of the bag after I give it a twirl & poke a finger to let air out.  Those paddles are just enough smaller that when I scoop up a basket full in one swoop, I can push them down into the bag before turning loose & don't have them blowing away.  I buy a box of those plastic bags from Sam's like my husband used.... must be 45 gal or more.  I have half a tree on the ground this morning so will be picking up today.  My dumpster is full as I am cutting down an old evergreen, little by little.  After no color at all on our trees, all of a sudden they are brilliant yellow & red.

Have a million things to do today so better get moving.  Wishing everyone a wonderful Wednesday (how about that, Callie?)  If not perfect I hope you can pick out at least one happy memory to hang on to.

Joan, I love the Thought of the Day.

Oh, Gloria, I haven't had stuffed celery in years!  Just bought another stalk yesterday so will see what I have to stuff with, mixing up the meat spread for gr-daughter & may send along some stalks for her to fill... will let her eat it any way she likes but remember my mother using the meat spread to stuff... along with pimento cheese that she mixed herself.  Now you've got my mouth watering!

Good Morning Everyone!

Another beautiful day here, we had a front come through last night but all the rain stayed North and East of us.  Sun more than likely got a good rain.  Hope she is doing okay.

Janie, happy to hear your bunch got home safely, hope Joe was able to get in to see his doctor in a timely manner.  Bad time of the year trying to get in to see someone, everyone has so many plans for the holidays.

Gloria, bet there was a bunch of new items to checkout at the grocery store.

All you ladies cooking up a storm, going to be lots of goodies to eat in the hidey hole.  My wife just came in and informed me that there is a package of cranberries sitting on the counter by the fridge that I can cut up while sitting listening to the radio......hehehehe.

Jackie, I hope your procedure goes well and is successful.  I know you aren't looking forward to it.

Amy, same for your hubby. I am sure he is not looking forward to being cut on and the old heart messed with.  I too have afib and may face the same thing.  Afib, it seems, gets lots of us, boys and girls, in our later years.  Although I think it is June's son that has it and had the procedure and it was quite successful.  My cardiologist keeps tabs on my heart and tells me I am on the edge of needing a pacemaker.  Heck, doesn't surprise me, seems like everything else is in need of work or "watching"...... :crazy2:

Well tomorrow is the big day.  I see Wal-Mart is going to open at 6PM tomorrow to kickoff their black Friday.  And they have some big screen TV's starting at 248 dollars.  That ought to make for some pushing and shoving.  I hope Janie has a good day, I think she said she had to work a shift tomorrow.

Larry, you know I would just as soon have a nice roast beef instead of Turkey.  And as a kid we always had roasted chicken, a couple of big hens roasted stuffed and surrounded by dressing in big banking pans.  I have suggested something other than Turkey and was shouted down, tradition you know, but who's.  Certainly wasn't mine.

Anyhow, everyone have a great day.  And ladies without you there would be no Thanksgiving or any other special days for that matter and us men do appreciate it and love you even though we don't tell you enough.

Second pie is out of the oven and cooling.  My work is done.

Yes, HAL, I do have to work a shift tomorrow 8 a.m to noon.  WE do not close at all on Thanksgiving.  It's just that the Black Friday sales begin at 6 p.m.  I'm really glad my shift will be over and I don't intend to be anywhere near WM at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Now I'm going to nip out to the local hardware store to see if I can get a bit of Christmas shopping done.  Enjoy your day Everyfriend.

Hal, when I was young and my mother was alive, we always had stuffed chicken on Thanksgiving.  Turkey wasn't a big thing then and a small turkey would have been too much for our family of four.  I think the first turkey I ever had was the first T-Day after my mother died and our neighbors invited us to eat with them.  There were six of them and three of us so we could take care of a big turkey.  I have fixed turkey for our family but this year we are going to a restaurant/grille with great-niece Annie, her friend and his daughter.  No my ideal T-day with no leftovers so Tom got a turkey breast the other day and we'll have that soon.

We are going to Sheridan MI to pick up Tom's former MIL and take her to Holland MI from where she and Tom's son and wife will drive to Northport MI for the day.  Northport is on one of the fingers east of Traverse City; Tom's former wife lives there.  We're all scattered these days.

Just noon time, cool, still windy sunny day.

I just came in to say  Joan, I was also so happy that your family got home safely. Many prays were answered.

Also Amy, am saying a pray for your husband

Gloria, my husband always made the stuff celery, and corn bread dressing. He would get our his mothers old hand written directions for that.

Hal, my A-fib was caused by a valve problem & nobody has mentioned it since that valve was fixed.... I've made it clear they aren't going to crack these old ribs again~  I don't take meds for it, had a terrible reaction when I took some that first week or so and been nearly 4 years since & no problem that I know if.

My husband had the first small pacemaker-defib ever used in KS.... spent nearly a year with the "pocket" being infected and all I can think of was he said he never-ever felt it shock him. I do know it was working on the day he died, I took him in for a check up because he fell a few days before.  The pace-maker tech was there and verified the time he fell, the times the heart really raced and he wasn't near the bedroom where the monitoring stuff was, so it did monitor,  not just in bed as he thought.

The year before the cardiologist told me it was time to turn off the defib... gave me a shock & I never knew if he told Cas.  Cas didn't talk about it to me so I was uneasy every night in fear it would be shocking him and as the doctor explained, "his heart muscle was too weak to restart".

When he fell (Wed.evening) he wouldn't let me call 911 or our sons. I had the large bandages left over from my heart surgery (only 5 month prior), so covered every part of his exposed body.  I'm convinced with all the blood thinners he was bleeding as much internally but the doctors didn't mention it. He had a routine blood test the morning after his fall but the nurse didn't comment on all his bandages, and a call back the next day because the blood test was not good, and later in the day a call from the cardiologist to come in on Monday, so I'm guessing they all knew the end was near, he died the night after the visit to the cardiologist. But he was in his own bed as he wished for, and a peaceful look on his face to obviously they had turned off the defib.

Only reason to be so graphic explaining is I did not know what to expect & neither did he.  He lived longer than any of the doctors expected, he was very limited in what he could do the last year so was honestly ready to go, not eager but so little left that he could do.  Even his speech & hearing had failed the last few months.  All of you having heart problems in here are a long way from what his last years were like.... so keep up the good thoughts!

I better get moving, hair wash day & errands to run before I can mix the meat spread & deliver this evening when the "kids" get home from the hospital.  Need to pick up leaves before "possible T-storm over the week end".  Had e-mail from my brother.... with a pic of him in a hospital bed... so will plan a trip to visit a few hours sometime this next week.  He is 90, so naturally I worry.

Mary Ann, enjoy your Thanksgiving where ever you might be!  You have a busy life and are the most wonderful Aunt anyone could have.

Lindancer, you had an amazing husband, cooking & all.  My husband could build the house with a kitchen but had no clue what it was for except to re-heat whatever he found in the frig or fix himself a bowl of cold cereal.

Good Morning,

Joan,  so glad to know that Joe, Kate and Finlay (does his name have a "d" or not?) arrived home safely.

Gloria,  I like last-minute things like you had but when it's an event at a certain time and I need transportation, I need plenty of advance warning.

Amy,  wishing the best for your husband.   #2 son had heart issues in his 20's and had to be shocked a few times.  He's now 50 and the arrhythmia is taken care of with medication.

Emily told me she's working Thursday from midnight - 6:00 a.m. for Black Friday.  I know Ellen is also working but don't know her hours.
Emily also said that Ellen and some friends are planning a "Friendsgiving".  I'd never heard that term and was surprised to see it mentioned in a news article on my internet page yesterday afternoon.
Apparently, it's a pot-luck event that young professionals living away from families have started doing when they can't go home for a holiday.  Sounds like a great idea.

As planned,  I'm having a "leisurely" day.   Will chop and crumble and mix the dry ingredients for the dressing later on and bake it tomorrow to have ready when #2 son/dil pick me up.  (I assume they're still doing so;  haven't been given a time <sigh>)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day (as well as a Wonderful Wednesday < Shirley>)

Bis, I am going to try to adopt your attitude of "throwing one less worry in the trash".l I tend to let a worry wear me out, and that is foolish when I know our Good Lord is always in charge.

Amy, my son has Atrial Fibrilation, so he chose to have that shock treatment on the heart. The first attempt did not do any good, so he went through a second one and it "took". He still will have very mild fibrillation, but says it is not serious enough to worry about. I pray your dear husband will find perfect results.

Jeanne Lee, I too am glad those days of cooking are finished. I must say the results were always worth the effort though.

Larry, I thank you. I did have a very good night..no leg pain till I woke this morning, then I did the usual massage, and it seems to help. I see my doctor today, so it will be interesting to get her in-put.

Gloria, I have a friend here that had a doctor like yours..she finally dropped him, and is now seeing the same woman doctor I have at our Clinic, and she is delighted. Things are finally being done, not just poo-pooed. I was wonderful having my little great grands here, but my dear Grandaughter recognized I was tiring, as she came and whispered in my ear, "Grandma, are you getting tired ?" and I replied, Yes, so they packed up and went on their way. Now I have all the delicious memories to enjoy.

Hal, it does seem like when the body starts failing it does it in a big hurry. When you consider how we have used, and sometimes abused our bodies it is not surprising that that piece by piece they need repair or replacement. I find that we do learn to value each day more and more as a gift, and appreciate what we have left. I am thankful for what we can do now, with God's help.

Gloria de, have you seen your eye doctor yet ? I may have missed something, but I do pray your eye sight problem was one of those come and go types of ailments. To be able to see is such a wonderful gift that we just accept till something goes amiss. Have a Happy Thanksgiving dear. I plan to spend dinner with one of my friends here.

Shirley, thank you for the kind words.  People don't realize that Norm's grands and greats are the closest I can come to having my own grands and greats.  I am fortunate in that they all keep in contact with me and I am ready to help whenever I can.  Age limits my help now, but I did my share of baby-sitting.  I've been accused of having Tom's kids as favorites,  but I saw them more often. I love them all - and they love me back.

Tom, Terry, Dot and I went to the Boulder Creek Golf Course for lunch today and we all like to eat there.  Being that it is rainy, there weren't many people there and we do enjoy the quiet.  We go to sports bars occasionally and they are very noisy.  I think we will go to Boulder Creek more often this winter as they're open year round and it is near home, too.

Oh my,  how am I ever going to be able to handle what's in the hidey hole.  I am like a kid in a candy factory.  Which do you choose first. :-\

Amy in the past couple of years it is unreal what has gone wrong, and I am not about to list them here, just be sure they seemed to find something different every time they do a test and no part of the body feels left out.

But strangely it doesn't bother me mentally, okay some would argue I have had mental problems for years, but I do know how June feels.  The good Lord is a close personal friend, as he is with everyone, and I know he will take care of me and has a place for me.  That old saying: "this world isn't my home, I am just passing through" is so very true.  I have already spent 83 years here, much longer than many and shorter than some so I have no gripe and actually very little pain, except when I smile......old joke.  But I do have very little pain, just when I walk and also I give out pretty fast.
But I managed to stand in line at the church supper the other night and finish off the meal.....hehehehehe.

I have rambled enough, Amy please let us know how DH fared.

If I don't get back here later on

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

A good Wednesday to EVERYFRIEND!

It has been a crazy day here as I prepare the few items I am responsible for taking to our Thanksgiving dinner.  We made a quick trip to COSTCO.  The parking lot was a mss with cas, but once we were inside, surprisingly it was not bad at all and the check out was rather quick.

GLORIA, we almost cancelled our trip to meet Eugene and Nadia.  It was snowing like crazy here and sticking....after checking the weather cams etc., the decision was made to go ahead and do it.  Thanful that we did as the roads were fine and the sun was even shinning when we arrived.  We took them to a very nice buffet.....we were together for over 3 hours, eating and chatting.  Our server was very kind and understood the reason for our meet and did not mind at all that we sat there so long.  Ofcourse Bob gave him a BIG tip....

We heard all about what they have been doing since arriving in the States, including visits to Pat Halbach in Guelph and Adrienne in San Francisco.  Sadly, Nadia is getting divorced from Nick, so the wedding pictures are no longer needed to be posted, Gloria.  😪

JACKIE, I apologize, I must have missed you telling about your procedure tomorrow.  Please know you are and will be in my thoughts and prayers.

AMY, as others have stated, your dear DH sure has been through so much.  Continued thoughts and prayers for him as well.  I hope this problem will be taken care of at last.

JOAN, I joined the rest in being thankful that Joe and Family arrived safe and sound back in Fairhope.

We have to go get our rec center cards renewed, so best go now.

Wishing you all a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING tomorrow.  For those of you that will be alone, know that you are all being thought about by your, loved ones just as you will be by all of us.

Jenny

Amy--Your husband sure has had more than his share.  I pray for you both.

halkel--I think you do very well handling your medical maladies.

Jenny--It's nice you were able to get together with Eugene and Nadia.  That's too bad that Nadia and Nick are divorcing.  Joe and family will be having Thanksgiving Dinner at Linda and Ed's new home in Fairhope.

Thought I would stop by and read the posts. Got the celery stuffed with 5 different fillings. After going to the market yesterday and doing the celery today  I am worn out. My son called a git ago and said he will pick me up about 10. When I get home tomorrow I think I will just go to bed. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone.

I'm tired tonight.  I did about 3 more bags of leaves and the pies and some straightening up and cleaning up and putting away and I'm off to bed.

GLORIA, thanks for the nice card.  I hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow.  I'm very thankful for all my friends, especially you special cyber friends.  I do appreciate my computer.

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

This has been an excellent day for me, and I am thankful way ahead of Thanksgiving Day. I am so pleased to read of all your doings in preparation for tomorrow. I of course will have an early turkey dinner with my friend here at Rowntree, then home to just enjoy the peace of the day, in Thankfulness.

Went to my Gary's Bible study today. He is doing the book of Daniel, and I was surprised to hear him say that he felt the seventh chapter of the book of Daniel was the most important page of all. Tomorrow I will re-read it to be more familiar with the words. In the Episcopal Church we dealt more with the book of Common Prayer than the Bible itself. Gary's Church is strictly Bible oriented,so he is teaching his mother lessons that she never knew.

Bis, I am praying that our Joe is doing well in spite of his awful experience with that blood clot, and I am praying the Lord is doing the necessary healing, every minute of the day and night.

This afternoon I saw my doctor and had a good conversation. She gave me permission to take the bandage off and let my leg get the needed oxygen I feel it needs. It has been wrapped up for 22 days. So I have been happily airing it out since then, and will leave it till tomorrow. She said that living in this facility requires a bandage when leaving my apartment, as they are very conscious of any germs spread in the air itself. So I will cover it before going out. After my visit with her, I came home, took off the bandage, lay back in my recliner and had a three hour nap !! Got up fixed some supper, and now here. God is SO good.

Gloria, thank you so much for the lovely card.

Janie, you have every right to feel tired. You work very hard during the day. I hope tomorrow will be a day of rest for you.

Jenny, I am so glad you saw Gene and Nadia. I am sorry her marriage did not take, but both she and her father can be comfort to one another. They were such a beautiful family before, and I hope they can continue to be.

I don't think I will be going to an early bed tonight after that long nap this afternoon, but I do have some paper work to take care of. Gary got my new DNR and I have given one to my doctor, and I have posted one by my door in plain sight of paramedics, and the Dr. said it would be wise to carry one in my purse as well. So I will.

Have a good rest tonight, especially all of you who have been so busy preparing for the Feasts tomorrow. Gary said they were all gathering at my oldest Grandsons home tomorrow, and I was invited too, but I declined. It is going to be a BIG crowd..too much for me. I will rejoice with my Rowntree family and peace will reign at home. Have a good night my dear ones. God bless you greatly, with good health and happiness. I love you. June

I am very late getting in here today. Got a lot accomplished, even with some rest periods between my chores.   Made a coconut cake, baked the frozen Pumpkin Pie that I had gotten from Schwans,  chopped up some veggies for a dish I am roasting tomorrow, and will put together a crab dip in the morning. In between, I went though a pile of e-mails and checked some other boards that I am into after being away from the computer for a few days.

I am thankful that my computer problem was a quick fix.  Still charged me for an hour  service call, even tho it  took less than  30 min. for the fix.  I am also thankful that it was able to be fixed without taking it into the shop.

It sounds like most everyone has been busy cooking and cleaning and getting ready for the big Turkey Day feast.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Joan, happy to read that your son and family had a safe trip back home.  I am sure you were glad when you got that call letting you know.

Jane, you sure deserve a nice day tomorrow after having to work in the  morning.  Sounds like you were really busy collecting all those leaves, along with the baking and cleaning up.    I don't miss that chore, now that I live in an apartment.  No snow shoveling either.

June, I am glad that you had a nice day and was able to attend your son's Bible class and that your leg is healing nicely.  I didn't get my nap in today, so I hope I hope I will be able to sleep better.

Good Thursday morning, Everyfriend,  on this Thanksgiving Day. There's pumpkin muffins, just out of the oven, to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Thanksgiving” graphic creation which we are using today.

:smitten:

CHUCKLES

Josh: Why did the farmer run a steamroller over his potato field on Thanksgiving Day?
Phil: Why?
Josh: He wanted to raise mashed potatoes.

Biff: Why did the turkey cross the road?
Bob: I don’t know.
Biff: It was Thanksgiving Day, and he wanted people to think he was a chicken!

A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store for Thanksgiving Day, but couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?”
“No, ma’am. They’re dead.”

Luke: What did the turkey say to the computer?
Will: What?
Luke: “Google, google, google.”

Food For Thought

Let Us Give Thanks

Of all of the qualities of Thanksgiving, the power to draw people together is among its most sustaining. Whether strangers sharing a meal or scattered relatives gathering together, spiritually minded and secular Americans alike have come to rely upon Thanksgiving and its lasting message of peace and togetherness. No longer a holiday set aside for the prosperous, it has instead been transformed into a celebration of community.

Thought of the Day

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and to you also Lloyd.

JUNE, when you said last night that the Episcopal Church is based more on the BCP than the Bible I was a bit confused.  Every one of our services has a reading from the Old Testament and on from the New Testament and is followed by one from the Gospels.  And the Rector's sermon is always based on one of those readings.  That's a very large chunk of time devoted to the Bible.  I always come out of church on Sunday or any other day of the church year with those readings and the Rector's enlargement on them fresh in my mind.  We also have a group that meets once a week on an evening for more Bible study.  I think we are as Bible based as any church and more than some.  I've always enjoyed that part of the sevice and I think I always will.

Have a lovely day, Everyfriend.  May God bless your day with Thanksgivings!

JUNE, (and anyone else who is interested) this part of the service is sometimes referred to as "The Mass of the Catechumans".  In Early times, the catechumans, or learning converts would be dismissed after this part of the service.  It has ALWAYS been a learning part and we all learn from it.  I'm sorry if I sound "preachy" but I didn't want anyone to think that we Episcopalians are not "Bible based".  We are!

A good Thanksgiving morning to you, Joan, Lloyd and Jane, and all  the friends who follow.  Thank you, Joan, especially, for all you do to make this such a special place to come to every day.   I don't give you those special "thank you's" often enough.  Seniors and Friends are my favorite place to visit each day.  I don't always write anything, but I enjoy reading everyone's messages each day.

Hope everyone will  have a wonderful Thanksgiving day with family and friends.

I am going to my oldest son's for dinner.  He loves to cook and usually goes over-board.  So. hopefully,  there will be some left-overs for me to bring home this evening.  It will be nice to be with some of my DIL's family and a few friends,  who I don't get to see very often.  It is always nice to be with them and catch up on their family news.

Have an enjoyable day and remember all the wonderful blessings that we have had this past year.  Even with some "bumps in the road", hopefully,  the blessings have outnumbered them.

Enjoy your day.

Joy

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving for those of us celebrating God's generosity and safe keeping today.  We have an overcast morning but it is a bit warmer than the past few days.  We are looking forward to a nice day with Scott as we celebrate and of course there is football to watch this afternoon.  We will eat sometime between two and three this afternoon.  Last evening we had a nice time with Scott as he had dinner with us and we visited.

Yesterday as I went to pick up the groceries we had ordered online at Walmart I stopped at our Belk's Department store to get a new watch battery as I had bought the watch at Belks.  I was advised they do not change watch batteries only sell the watches and adjust the bands.  The store, which is like a Macy's, was so stuffed with merchandise and there were so many people shopping that I determined not to set foot back in the store until after Christmas.  One of the things I am thankful for this year is Internet online shopping.

Jackie, thinking of you today as you have your procedure.  Also Amy, hope the treatment for your husband goes well today.

Gloria, you must have gone shopping on one of the busiest days of the year in the grocery store.  Glad you enjoyed getting out and are now stocked up.  I am glad you have finally found a doctor who cares about you.  Happy to read that you are going to be with family today.

Shirley, too bad the medical staff hadn't advised Cas about what to expect after the procedure.  I am surprised that the use of the defibrillator didn't use a lot of battery power.  I feel fortunate in never having experienced the shock with mine and have had one for close to 10 years now. These monitoring stations just report what is recorded in the devices.  The pacemaker/defib are very complex and very expensive pieces of equipment. I appreciate your detailed explanations as they are helpful to me.   I don't think I have ever had stuffed celery with a meat filling.  We usually use pimento cheese spread as the filling. Sorry to read that your brother is in the hospital.  That is not a fun place to be anytime and especially during a holiday.

June, I have never found a worry to solve any problem so I just don't bother anymore.  I will deal with whatever comes along at the time.

Hal, we got a bag of cranberries yesterday but they won't be fixed until after Thanksgiving as Pat is the only one who really likes them.  I'll have my cranberries as juice, which I do every morning.  I expect the baked chicken will become our new favorite meat for Thanksgiving.  Our son liked the idea also.  You were motivated in the church supper line with all of that food awaiting your selection and then eating it.

JaneS, I never thought of Christmas shopping at the hardware store but can see why that is not a bad idea.

Joy, your posting reminded me that I want to express Thanksgiving today to Joan and Phyllis and to all of the folks who post in these discussions.  I am also very thankful to Pat Scott Halbach for keeping this site available to us.  You all contribute to the blessings I feel everyday and I am so thankful for you all.

Good morning, Larry.  It's great that since the time you moved you and Pat are able to spend so much time with Scott.  It seems stores don't replace batteries these days.  I had a similar experience at Walmart.  I do 95%  of my Christmas shopping online since I just don't have the energy to traverse the stores.  It's my pleasure to do the Nest each day, and I give thanks for each and every participant.

Larry, I,  have found that most stores will not put in a  new battery for you.  The last time I needed one,  I was out with a friend, and we stopped at a Battery Warehouse.  And, they were happy to put in a new one and it was even cheaper than the store.

I think Battery Warehouse is a national chain.  So,  you might have one close by you.

Happy Thanksgiving to All...... first thanks to God for all He does, next goes to Pat Scott Halbach go giving us this place to meet.  I am most grateful to have all of you good people in my daily life, the kindness & consideration you show every single day.

Got to tell you, I have a great family that is having a breakfast/brunch today instead of more turkey!  All of them took any left overs from Sunday and ready to "pardon another turkey".  Good idea, huh?

Amy, best wishes for you & your husband, be watching for your report.

Jane, June & any others interested in religion comments, my dear friend of nearly 50 years has been an active  member of the Episcopal Church as long as I've known her.... when we compare notes about the services she enjoys (a member of the choir, etc)...  I've told her many times that "their services are more Catholic than the ones at my church", because I attend the early Mass that has no music & less "pomp".  She loves the formal services that are still held at my church, but are at "prime time".  Growing up with a Catholic mother & Methodist father (that didn't go to church on Sundays) but was a 32nd Degree Mason as was his father, and a husband that didn't go to church but Believed & prayed, I firmly believe that "everyone is good or bad when they are judged by rules they believe in."

Larry, if all fairness, I think the doctors were trying to calm his fears about the battery power, knowing it would outlast his heart.  They had probably already turned off the defib part long before but pacemaker still active.  He had so many procedures but always on a "need" basis so never had time to research.  I know Cas did research and found procedures available other places not offered here, but his doctors really cared for him as a person and did what they could.

Good news, heard from my brother last night, he is home & they are celebrating Thanksgiving with sons & families.  His daughter lives in FL & they will be seeing them Christmas when all gather at their house for the party, and then my brother & wife spend the rest of winter in FL about 50 miles from where their daughter lives. He didn't explain the reason for his trip to the hospital, too busy.  Out of town kids stay in motels, 5 kids multiply & they do what they can to make it easier on Mom & Dad... but they do keep busy all days! We will talk after the holiday, before Christmas rush.

Jenny, I went back & back but couldn't find what procedure Jackie was having today.... like everyone here, my thoughts & prayers are with her.

Larry, I discovered Battery Warehouse was the place to get mine... only don't wear a watch since FitBit keeps perfect time & does so much more!

I'd better get dressed to head to that brunch & meet the new great grand.  Love to All.... Shirley

Joy--We don't have a Batteries Warehouse, but have Batteries Plus that will do the same thing.

Good morning and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to EVERYFRIEND!

I just want to say that I am thankful for ALL of you this wonderful day.

We are watching the Macy's Parade, and there were dancers...made me imigine I was watching CALLIE's Ms Ellen!  I would not be surprised IF one day we would see her on our TV's, or even in person on a stage.

SHIRLEY, your plans for the day with the family sound perfect.  I hope the new baby and mama are doing well.

I, too, am a Episcopalalian....and agree that it is always nice to share the basis of what ones religion is.

Enjoy your day, where ever you are spending it.

JOAN, my wish is that you could be in Fairhope with your family today....I know you will be in spirit!  HUGS to you!

Thinking about you today, JACKIE.  Hope all is going well and you will hear some good news about your procedure.

Thank you most of all to those who help make this Soda Shoppe so special!

I guess we are an anomaly here as I have had watch batteries changed at both Zales and another mall jewelry store in the recent past. I always felt it was a standard service.

I  am also a life-long Episcopalian and to my knowledge, there are two main types with other variants of those two. The first, of which my church is one is what is referred to as "high" Episcopalian, the high meaning first and not better. This type is the older one and is similar to Catholicism. The second is "lower" Episcopalian, again the lower refers to second rather than less. Lower Episcopalian is similar to Protestants rather than Catholicism.

In my church or version of Episcopalian, there are traditional services, usually three. The first early service has no music and more traditional procedures; the second, music and ceremony while the third is geared towards families. All three have readings from the bible and the priest's sermon. There are several biblical societies and groups for men and women striving to know more and be more in the church.

I am not familiar with other churches other than superficially, but I'm sure they are similar in some ways with only a few tweaks here and there. It's like that old saying about everyone putting their pants on one leg at a time.

Patricia, you mentioned Zales and other jewelry stores for replacing watch batteries.  I found out our Meijer stores do not change batteries several years ago.  Fortunately we have a jewelry store nearby and I've had them change the batteries for up to $10.  Supermarkets and other stores do not change the batteries.

Tom and I will join Annie, her friend and his daughter for T-day dinner at a restaurant/grille for a buffet today.  I'll have to watch what I pick to eat because I'll want to try everything.

I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a day filled with blessings

Jenny,   As I watched the dancers I was thinking that Ellen could do just as well!  Don't know when the auditions are for next year - but I'd bet she'll be there trying!

The dressing and dessert are ready to go - and so am I.

There's a store here called Batteries and Bulbs.  They have every kind of each that you could imagine.  For $18.00, you can have a watch battery changed without charge "forever".  They put a little sticker inside the watch to indicate you've purchased this.
Since the store is right next door to the restaurant where I play Bridge,  I take full advantage.

My WM still sells and changes watch batteries.  A customer told me Tuesday to give him a minute to get his watch back on because he just had the battery changed at the jewely counter.

I'm off to my daughter's to do my share in helping a turkey lose weight!

Jenny--I wish I could be in Fairhope, too, but it's not to be.  I thank you for your words of appreciation.

Phyllis--And the same to you.

angelface--I am not very well versed in the Episcopalian religion so learned something from your post.

Mary Ann--Enjoy the Thanksgiving buffet and the time with family/friends.

Callie--Batteries and Bulbs has a unique policy for changing watch batteries.

halkel--My husband had a watch like yours.

Janie--The WM I used in AR used to change watch batteries.  Then one day I went to the jewelry counter to get one changed, and they told me they no longer provided that service because they had ruined some watches getting the back off.  Enjoy the turkey and your family.

Thank you to all who were thinking of me today having my " flexible Cystocopy procedure..." I, and my bladder, have been given the " all clear " I have a healthy bladder, much to my relief, and have now been signed off.....It doesn't matter that they haven't found where the daily watery bleed comes from, ( they cant see any bleed....)... No blood shows in my urine, ( which is still leaving me baffled,) but it does come from my urine in my underwear, since my bladder function has changed since my MS diagnoses....The main thing is all is as it should be, no signs of cancer, unlike my late father who also had this procedure 28 -29 years ago who did pass away from penis cancer, that is what is written on his death certificate....This for me has been one long one and a half years on the go, just so thankful its all done and dusted....I dont care now that I have a daily watery bleed stain in my underwear, I can live with that, it is not causing me any harm nor discomfort, and I dont have to worry of cancer anymore...nor any future treatments or operations running into the next year...
As far as both the Gynaecologist and the Urologist states, both my bladder and womb are in good health... just glad some parts of me still are....

We're back from a very nice Thanksgiving dinner.  This place was miles south of Grand Rapids and I live way north and had never heard of the place.  It is a big restaurant but also has a banquet hall.  We were in the hall and it was packed.  So was the parking lot and I saw one car parked on the grass beside the road of the parking area.  I had something of everything I wanted - turkey, dressing, mashed potato and gravy, cranberry sauce, sliced apple, pumpkin pie, rolls and coffee.  Since it was a buffet, I could have had second helpings, but I refrained!  I am full!

Jeanne Lee, what a nice neighbor you have.

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm so happy to hear the good news from Canada and England that I'd like to dance!  Amy, you sure do deserve to rest after the day you put in and Jackie, you deserve to rejoice at your good news after such a long wait.

Dinner was good and it was also FUN.  If you've never had Thanksgiving with three 24 year old young men who all call you "Grammy" you haven't lived.  Kyle brought 2 friends along to dinner and we laughed our way through all courses.  And Courtney shared with me that she's "seeing" a very nice young man.  She was flipping through pictures to show me what he looks like and I said, "Before I even look at the picture, tell me...Is he nice?"  She said he's VERY nice and I really enjoy being with him.  Then I looked at the picture and he's cute, too.

Now I'm going to rest.  It's been a busy day here, too.

"Home again, home again, jiggety jog"

Good dinner, good company, good time.

Miss Ellen "joined" us via Facetime on her sister's phone.  She was at a friend's apartment, preparing baked ham and sweet potato casserole.  Five other friends will bring more food.  Sounds like a Good Time In New York City.

We could see shoppers lined up well out into the parking lot when we drove past one of the big Malls on the way home.
As Joan says,  "Different strokes for different folks".

So glad to read the good reports from Amy and Jackie.....and also see that others have had a good day with family and friends.

Jeanne Lee--You are very fortunate.

Janie--"Dinner was good and it was fun"--I'm happy for you.

Callie--Well, I'm glad all aspects were good.  Sounds like Miss Ellen was in the spirit of the day.

No June today.  I hope all is OK.

A very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving dear hearts.

Janie, Exactly….you said it just as we had it at our Church also. And it was good. What I am finding is we did not study the whole bible, verse by verse as some other churches do. The Sermons were great teaching, believe me dear I loved my Church and the various Pastors we had. We were "High" Church, very catholic minded, and I loved it. I was an Associate of the Sisters of St. Mary, went to yearly Quiet Days at a Convent in Santa Barbara , the whole nine yards..I am so thankful for those years. But now I am learning in a different manner. And it is good also.

Larry, you have such a good attitude. I am proud of you.

Tisie, I read sometime ago…wish I could remember who wrote it…"Going to Church doesn't make you a Christian, any more that standing in a garage makes you a Car." I have known a lot of very, very good people that are Godly that have never been to Church.God made us, God gave us life, and God loves us. The rest is up us. Our choice.

Amy, thank you so much for the good report on your husband. May he continue to have better and better health as the days go by. NIce news for Thanksgiving.

Jackie, I rejoice with you on your good news. It must be a great relief to you after all this time to get that report.

Jeanne Lee, you just gave us another good reason to be Thankful today. You are well cared for by a wonderful neighbor. May God Bless them greatly.

Bis, I am so very sorry to be so late. I have enjoyed the sharing post so much. I woke at 4 a.m. took a shower and shampoo at 5 a.m., then I got involved in medications from our clinic. We have changed drug companies that fill our prescripts and I didn't understand what they were doing…I still don't, but will go down again tomorrow, to show them my changes in prescripts that the hospital ordered. had an early dinner downstairs with friends and reallly enjoyed their company. A song popped into my head while we were eating…remember, "We gather together to ask the Lords' Blessing"…..and we couldn't remember the rest…I found it on Google. I came home and fell asleep for nearly three hours. So that is why I am so late.

Psychic Hotline

A frog telephoned the Psychic Hotline and was told, "You are going to meet a beautiful young woman who will want to know everything about you."

The frog said, "That's great! Will I meet her at a party, or what?"

"No," said the psychic, "Next term--in her biology class."

Food For Thought

The Value of Experience
(By Alan Smith)

"Sir, What is the secret of your success?" a reporter asked a bank president.

"Two words."

"And, sir, what are they?"

"Right decisions."

"And how do you make right decisions?"

"One word."

"And, sir, what is that?"

"Experience."

"And how do you get experience?"

"Two words."

"And, sir, what are they?"

"Wrong decisions."

There's a measure of truth in that. Though we can (and should) learn from the mistakes of others, experience truly does seem to be "the best teacher." The experience of making wrong decisions in the past should help us to learn so that we make better decisions in the future. But are we willing to learn?

Paul is a great example of someone who learned from his past mistakes and, as a result of that experience, made better decisions in his effort to serve God.

"And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man...." (I Timothy 1:12-13)

I love the way that I've heard Randy Harris put it: "God loves you wherever you are........but He loves you too much to leave you where you are!"

"Father, once again I come asking forgiveness for the many times I've let you down. As I confess to you my transgressions, I pray that you will help me to learn from my mistakes -- to recognize the consequences of following my stubborn will, to realize the heartache you feel when I turn a deaf ear to you, to learn from my error the need to follow your word more closely. I have made wrong decisions, but I pray that the experience of doing so will help me to develop the wisdom necessary to make better decisions in the future, as I strive to draw closer to you. In Jesus' name, amen."

Thankfully the drive in today will not be as bad as yesterdays...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, you made my mouth water with all the goodies you were baking/eating...yes Shirley even your wee chocolate bars!!

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I didn't sleep very well last night.  I was so tired when I went to bed that I think it made me restless.  When I finally went sound asleep it was after 3 a.m. because that's then last time I remember seeing on the clock.

I have to work this morning and I'm sure it will be busy with residual customers who didn't go in last night when the sales all started.  When I come home from work, my daughter and my granddaughter (her niece) will be picking me up to go to the Amish store.  I bet I'll be tired again tonight!  But I wouldn't miss spending a couple of hours with them for anything!

My pies were a hit yesterday but I didn't find that out until late last night.  We were all "stuffed" after dinner and we opted to have the pie and coffee later.  I brought mine home and I'm having it for breakfast.  I got texts from them after they had theirs and they were all complimentary.  That's the easiest part of the dinner and I'm happy to contribute that.

Amy, be safe on your way to the city and back.  I'm praying that the Dr. will offer you hope for your hubby.

A special good morning to you, Joanie and a thank your for the readings this morning.  I pity the frog and I'd have been happy to give up that part of my education when I was in high school.  The inspiration reading struck home and the food for thought was exactly that...food for thought!  I've often wondered how many hours you put in for us finding all that you contribute!

I wish Everyfriend a terrific day full of whatever pleases you most.  Make it a good one!

Good morning, Janie.  Sorry you found it hard to get to sleep last night.  With little sleep, working and shopping at the Amish store today with daughter and granddaughter, you sure will be tired when bedtime comes tonight.  I spend a fair amount of time finding "stuff" but it's worth it when folks enjoy my first post each day.

Good morning everyone, glad  the rain yesterday held off till after my son brought me home. It was a busy day. I was in bed by 8 last night. Three busy days in a row was a bit much for me. Hope everyone did not feel as stuffed as the turkey by the time the meal was over. When I got home I did turn on the PC and Skype. Not long to wait til my daughter got on and got to talk to my oldest grandson. I enjoyed getting to see and talk to him. Next time I get to do that will be Christmas when my daughter and SIL will be at his home at Christmas.

JOAN  I hope you have heard for Joe and know how he is doing. I know you are worried about him.

JANE  glad you enjoyed the JL card.   I do love them and glad I joined. Like you I am thankful for my family and all my cyber friends. Without my computer I would be lost and lonesome. I know that is how I felt when this computer went back to HP twice.

JUNE  no matter what part of the Bible we read we learn something new. Glad you liked the card. We have a magnetic holder on the fridge with our meds listed and the names of who to call if needed.  If medics are called here that is where they look.  Have a list in my wallet, too.

JOY  lately I seem to not be able to catch up on email. Like you I am thankful not to have to shovel snow anymore. When living in my apartment at my son's house I shoveled my outside stairs and path to my car. He kept telling me he would do it but he had enough with his shoveling.

LARRY  I did enjoy yesterday being at my son's home and seeing his family. I had not been there since I moved here 2½ ago. It was hard going up his outside stairs but he was great with helping me. I am thankful my 3 grew up to be so thoughtful and helpful. I thank God they take more after me than being like their father. I usually cook about 3 bags of cranberries and put into small comntainers and freeze. I love them but I do not dring juice. I rather eat the fruit, get more of the goodness than in the juice. Here in RI tomorrow is small business day when they urge people to shop local stores that are locally owned and that includes hardware stores. There is a hardware store close to me that is small but the owners seem to have every and anything you need. Run by the same family that opened it  I don't know when but have been here since I moved here 66 years ago. When my watch needed a new battery I would buy one and my son put it in

JOAN  I have said it before, I have enjoyed your morning posts from the day I got to your Bis Busy Nest. That is several years now.

SHIRLEY  Thanksgiving leftovers I do not have to worry about. I brought home only enough turkey for a sandwich, that is all I wanted.

SHIRLEY  glad your brother is home.

MARY ANN I take a small serving of every thing I like and my plate looks empty besides what everyone else's. I just take what I know I can eat.

JANE  like your take on helping the turkey lose weight.

AMY  thank God for answering prayers and your hubby is doing better. I cannot picture you being a lazy person. You will find something to do.

JACKIE  I am glad they found no cancer. God is good as June often says.

JEANNE LEE  you have wonderful neighbors. You are a fortunate lady to have them.

SHIRLEY    I had no dessert yesterday and no candy either when I got home. Still not ready for breakfast either.

JUNE  I think I was in bed and asleep by 8 last night. I was really worn out.

JOAN  I love a poached egg on toast. Chuckles, not something for that frog to look forward to. The last paragraph in Food for Thought is something for everyone to read and pay attention to. Like Thought of the Day. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  prayers for your hubby as he gets chemo.Safe trip.

JANE  sorry you have to work today, hopefully it will not be too crazy at WM.

JOAN  I know you spend a lot of hours looking for all you post. I appreciate all you do.

Hi everyone on an overcast but warm Friday morning.  We enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving Day and dinner with Scott yesterday.

It was in our tradition except for the baked chicken rather than turkey and I think that will become a new tradition for us.  During the last stages of the dinner preparation Pat accidentally turned off the oven rather than the timer and was wondering why the dinner rolls were not browning and the a couple of other things in the oven not getting hot.  Fortunately the problem was found and no damage done.  I did eat plenty but small portions as just don't have the appetite that I used to have.  I won't need to cook anything but Pat's breakfast this morning as there are enough left overs for our evening meal plus we sent another meal home with Scott.  We did use our Lenox fine china for the first time in several years and that added a nice touch to the dinner.

Pat has always wanted one of the old Singer Featherweight sewing machine.  I was able to locate one that was owned by a friend from our previous church and bought it from her.  Other friends of our that go to the same church and have a son and family that moved to Augusta for his military assignment at Fort Gordon.  I arranged with them to bring the machine over when they came this way for Thanksgiving.  About 5 pm last night he called and gave me the address where they were.  It was about 15 miles from our house so I asked Scott to go with me, which he did, and we found where they were with the GPS (another thing I am very thankful for) and picked up the machine.  Scott took it home with him so Pat won't see it before Christmas.  It is going to be her gift from both of us.

Today will be a relaxing day with only the laundry to take care of a little later this morning.  I have no plans to go anywhere today.  The dishwasher has been emptied and I have things ready to fix Pat's breakfast.  I am going to start another project to create a cross-index of a large number of recipes Pat has printed out but are hard to find what you want.  I have an idea that I think will work.

Joy, I just checked and there is a Battery Warehouse here in our little town.  I will check them out for the watch battery.  I knew of Batteries Plus, which is also available in our area but didn't know of the Battery Warehouse.

Shirley, good to know your brother was able to be home and with his family yesterday.  Interesting discussion on religion.  We joined the Methodist church when we came here and it is a more formal service than we have ever experienced but we like it.

Callie, at my age and health condition spending the $18 for permanent battery replacement in the watch probably wouldn't be a very good investment.  Callie, Facebook is about the next best thing to actually being in the physical presence of someone.

Gloria, there is one of those old fashion type hardware stores here in North Augusta.  It is kind of a mess but the staff know where everything is located.  Glad you could be with your family yesterday.

Joan, if my memory is correct I had the same experience the last time I tried to get a watch battery changed at Walmart and for the same reason you stated.

Amy, what great news and hopefully that problem will not return for your husband.  He will have plenty on his plate with the treatments for the cancer.  Glad your driving today won't be as bad.

Jackie, the "all clear" is the type of report we all want to receive when we have medical procedures.  I hope this will put your mind at ease.

Shirley and Joan those few pieces of chocolate probably wouldn't be more than a small candy bar so enjoy!

JaneS, how fortunate you are to have such a nice family and have three 24 year old men who call you Grammy.  Hope your customers today at Walmart are in a cheerful Christmas mood and not too stressed out.

Good morning, Gloria.  You've had a busy week.  I'm glad you enjoyed Thanksgiving with family.  Yes, I've heard from Joe.  He is tired, but taking it easy.  Monday he is scheduled to see a hematologist.  You are always most gracious in your accolades.

Larry--Good morning.  Glad you enjoyed your day yesterday.  I am sure Pat will be thrilled with her Christmas gift.

Good morning,  Joan and all the other Friends.

Joan,  I think I will pass on the poached eggs this morning.  I am still full from my dinner yesterday.    As usual,  my son went way overboard with so many choices.  At least, I did get to bring some leftovers home with me.  It was a nice day and I got to spend some time with one of their neighbors, who I really enjoy being with.  We hadn't seen each other for quite a while.

I had an e-mail this morning from Amazon with a of "Black Friday" deals and decided to buy myself a new Kindle Fire.  I did call first to make sure all of what is on my present one will be automatically transferred to the new one. This new one has a front-facing camera, which mine now, doesn't have.  It was a good buy and having the Prime account, I don't have to pay for any shipping.  And, will have it delivered on Sunday.  Then,  will have fun finding all the new things to play around with.

Today is a cloudy, chilly day.  I plan on it being a lazy day, as I was really tired out last night.  I had done a lot more cooking the past couple days than I usually do.

Jackie,  I am so happy that you got good news from your tests.  I know that is a great relief for you.

And, Amy, hope your husband will not have any big problems with his chemo planning.

Gloria, I am so happy that you had a nice day yesterday.  And,  I am kind of in the same boat as you...... I need a lot of help getting in and out of places, and up and down the steps.  I sometimes feel so in the way trying to maneuver me and my walker in tight areas.  Some people are not as understanding as others.  I was at my son's house yesterday and it sure isn't a house for a handicapped person.  Several sets of steps, but I managed pretty good.  One set does not have any railings and that makes it kind of difficult. I usually wind up kind of crawling my way up.  LOL.  But there is a bathroom on each level, so that is a plus.  And, there were several who helped fixing my plate.

Larry,  I know that Pat will just be thrilled with her new sewing machine.  What a nice gift.  I recently just bought a real cheap machine from Walmart, but not real happy with it.  I have a good computerized machine that I really like, but it needs to be looked at and just had a hard time getting it to the repair shop, as their shop hours didn't work out with the times that I would have somebody to take it in for me. I don't do that much sewing anymore,   but I do have a couple baby quilts that I would like to finish up and just don't have the interest, knowing that I really don't like the new machine I bought. I am just more familiar with the one I had.  Somehow, I am going to have to find a way to get the older one into the shop.

Hope you will be able to get the batteries you need for your watch.

Time to get myself moving along.

This will be a mixed-up few days now.  Seems like Saturday today.  Have a good day.

Joy

Good Morning my dear good friends. I had a wakeup call at 5 a.m. My door opened and our night nurse and a tech came in and drew a vial of blood. What a wonderful service we have here. I knew my doctor wanted another check to see how the sodium was doing, so it was no big surprise.

Had a wonderful nights sleep. Leg is starting to form a light scab....I just KNEW it needed some air in order to heal. I still get a twinge of pain now and then but nothing to worry about.

This will be a quiet day. At 3 p.m. there will be a Story of Thanksgiving...so I will check it out. And I need to make a visit to the Clinic to see if they still want a daily check on the leg, and that will be it.

Bis, my prayers for Joe, that he gets good news from the hematologist.Just being home in normal atmosphere will be healing for all three of them, i'm sure.

Gloria, My kitchenette has such a small refrigerator the paramedics would not check it...even if they saw it..so I have my DNR posted right smack by the door where they could not miss it on leaving the apartment.

I have a non-bill from the hospital, listing all the tests and the amount charged. The total is $23,649.  I'm thankful I have good insurance. I do appreciate the listing though, no other hospital had done that for me, and it is of interest to nosy people like me.

So....onward and upward we go. My housekeeper has been in with fresh linens and a change of bed, and she will return to clean the bathroom. I don't have to be present, which is helpful. Time to get dressed and go take care of the clinic business.

Good Morning,

I certainly did sleep long and well last night!   Don't think I realized how much I'd had to think about and do....until I didn't have to think or do (particularly think!) any more.

There were very few left-overs for anyone to take home after several of the young adult family members arrived late to yesterday's gathering.  I did bring home enough cornbread dressing for one meal.

Son got the Christmas dishes down when they brought me home - mainly because I don't know when he might have time to help again.
This is my Landscape Designer son and he has just gotten a HUGE project for an entrance to a planned housing development.  It will involve three waterfalls!  Great news in what's usually a very slow time of year for him.

Several neighbors already have outside Christmas lights up and on.  Guess I should bring in the Thanksgiving gourds and garden flag.
Off to do that and see if I can find something else useful to do.   I kinda struggle to fall into the Christmas decorating mode before December 1.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Joy--I always get confused when we have a holiday during the week.  I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday.  I got an email from Amazon about Black Friday deals, too.  There was nothing I wanted/needed right now.  Enjoy your new Kindle Fire.

June--Rowntree sure takes good care of you.  Joe is glad to be home where his medical caregivers are.  Those hospital charges are outrageous.

Callie--Apparently there were hearty eaters yesterday if all you got to bring home is dressing.  GREAT that your son got such a big job during his slow season.  I never decorate for Christmas until after Dec. 1.

I'm home and waiting for Courtney and Cathy to pick me up to tag along to Wengers with them.  That's the Amish store.  I think I'll go in the living room and chase a few zzzs on the sofa until they get here.  Cathy usually sends me a text message when she's on the way.  Keep doing what your doing unless you're tired of doing that.  Then do something else...or do nothing!  You choose!

Janie--Hopefully you can catch a few ZZZs.  I'm not doing much.  I have to use my nebulizer in a few minutes.  Believe me, it gets old when one has to do it 7 times a day.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of November 20

Oh my, Joanie, that must be a real chore!  I have to put drops in my eyes only twice a day and that gets annoying.  I can only imagine what you must go through!

I did catch a nap and I feel better.  We're not going to the store today.  Cathy had to see the dr. about pain in her back.  From it's location, she thought it might be a kidney stone but the dr. confirmed that it's not and it's probably just a pulled muscle.  I gave her Shirley's remedy of a towel soaked in epsom salt water and a heating pad and I think she's going to try it.

Time to scrounge up some supper.  I guess I'll have my leftovers from Cathy's dinner.  Sounds good but even better, it sounds easy.

Janie--I shouldn't complain because the nebulizer, the oxygen and the steroid inhalers are what keep me breathing, but it does take considerable time out of my day.  Leftovers sound good!!
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of November 20
Post by: June Drabek on November 25, 2016, 06:47:13 PM
Bis, I remember my brother using the nebulizer and sometimes he would practically through himself in the chair to use it again. It certainly does tie one up throughout the day, but we need to breathe. I'm so thankful there is the way to keep it helping.

I just woke up after a three hour nap, but the three ladies I had lunch with, planned on a nap as soon as they finished eating also.I woke up once and wondered where I was, then realized I had been deep in a dream, so went back to sleep.

I think I need to get out and walk around our gardens and get some fresh air. I was called down to the clinic. The doctor had ordered a daily dabbing of iodine on my leg to prevent any infection, even though a light scab has formed. So I obey. I also found out from her that my lack of sodium is related to Addison's disease. I had thought so, from my investigations on the computer, and she confirmed it.

Anniversary

It was our second anniversary, and my husband sent me flowers at the office. He told the florist to write "Happy Anniversary, Year Number 2. Love, Don" on the card. I was thrilled with the flowers, but not so pleased about the card. It read "Happy Anniversary. You're Number 2."

Food For Thought

Do You Carry Burdens Like Cats Wear Clothes?
(By Shannon Quintana)

Have you ever put clothing on a cat? In my super important research for this article I found it necessary to search YouTube with the words "putting clothes on cats." I encourage you to do the same, as it will definitely brighten your day. When I was younger, we had a cat named Mr. Fraidy, so named because he was afraid of everything. Get it? He was a "fraidy cat." I know, my family is a clever bunch. As a source of fun and enjoyment, we would cut the toes out of a stretched-out sock and slip it onto Mr. Fraidy. He would get up and try to walk but would ultimately end up looking like some sort of drunken sailor or just give up all together and lay down in defeat. Oddly enough, this picture of my poor, old cat came to mind when I was doing a devotion about our burdens.

Burden by definition means "a heavy load." We all carry them from time to time, and sometimes, they are put on us (like little Mr. Fraidy, God rest his feline soul). We do our best to walk around and make life work in spite of this heavy weight. If you are anything like me, you stuff the burdens down, trying to hide them until one day it's just too much, and you can't fight the desire to give up anymore. But, we are able to be free of the burdens just as quick and easy as Mr. Fraidy was. When he complained enough (i.e. meowed as loud and angrily as he could), we would reluctantly remove the sock, and he would scamper off to hide underneath a bed or behind the couch. Similarly, when we are loaded down with worries and cares, all we need to do is ask God to take them from us.

When I was watching those silly "cat with clothes on" videos, I began to wonder what God thinks when He sees me struggling to carry my own burdens. Does he chuckle sometimes at the silliness of it all? How foolish I am to think that I can handle the weight on my own, when all I need to do is say, "OK, God, this is too much; I need you to take it." ...

God is clear in His words that the MOMENT we come to Him and ask for His help, He steps in immediately to rescue us. He says: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I WILL give you rest."

This is a clear invitation to come and be released from the unnecessary weight you're carrying. God has time for you, my friend! He has time to spend removing your burdens, no matter the weight and no matter how many you have been lugging around. His goal is your freedom! How can you walk encumbered by the worries, cares and stresses of life? The answer is you can't, and you weren't meant to. Don't be like those cats with clothes on. Meow (er, I mean call) to God, and He will come to your rescue and set you free from that weight!

In all seriousness, my friends, what burdens are you carrying today? It doesn't matter how small it may seem; it is keeping you from walking in the freedom God has already given you. How Jesus longs to come for you and remove that heaviness. He wants you to be able to walk lightly today. Will you let Him?

Thought of the Day

"I want to be a woman who lives totally abandoned to the first commandment: to love my Lord, my God, with all my heart. I don't want the reputation that I love God, I don't want to write songs about loving God, I don't want to talk about loving God. I want to actually love God. When I close my eyes, I want my heart to move. When I close my eyes and I look at Him, I want to feel alive on the inside. I want to look at Him with a fire in my heart and it's real."

Yesterday was a long day.Driving in to the city was a bit better than the day before ,the road was better but gosh it was foggy! We didn't get out of the hospital till 4:10. The oncologist was very nice...she talked with you, not at you or above your head. She explained everything to us. Now hubby has a long road ahead of him with 6 months of chemo, we go down one day for blood work, talk with the Dr. then back down the next day for treatment. Two of the meds will be given there and one he will come home with ,hooked to his pic line. This part empties in two days and nurse will come to our home to disconnect it.
When we got home I stopped at the mail box and hubby picked up the mail to bring it in...I drove into the garage. Walking around the back of the vehicle I slipped on the slush and down I went..by the time hubby came I was inspecting the garage floor. Thankfully nothing is broke but I went down hard on my knee and one elbow got to kiss the floor too.
Today is laundry day...then go in to pick up the meds needed for chemo.

Larry, what a lovely gift!!! They are an awesome machine an real workhorse!  My son bought his wife a sewing machine also for Christmas..

Joan, thank you for breakfast love bear claws.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 40º right now and supposed to be in the mid to high 40s all day.  Going to be a nice one.

Amy, I'm so glad you didn't hurt yourself even worse than you did.  Please be careful.

Joanie, you really picked a doozy of a reading for today.  I'm going to tell you all something that I usually keep to myself.  The reason that I haven't been sleeping so well lately is that I've been so worried about what's going to happen.  I've been so tired when I get home from my job or I exert my energy over the leaves or the cleaning or the shopping or any other chore that needs doing that I've been worrying over what will happen if I can't work any more.  Last night, I sat on the front porch waiting for the dogs to finish their last walk of the night before bed and I looked at the sky and the stars and I broke down!  Something I try not to do.  I ended with giving my burdens to God and telling Him it's in his hands and not to let me take it back if I try.  I went to bed last night and I slept all night.  Then I got up and there was Joanie's reading confirming that all's right with the world when we trust in God's help.   Now I'm in tears again but these are tears of JOY!

TODAY'S GOING TO BE A GOOD ONE!  ENJOY IT EVERY ONE!  GOD'S BLESSINGS BE ON ALL OF US NOW AND FOREVER!

Good morning, Amy.  I'll be praying for your husband as he goes through his long journey with chemo.  Thank the Good Lord that you didn't break any bones when you fell, but I know you are sore.  I pray for you, too.

Janie--Good morning.  When something I post makes a positive impact on someone as sweet as you, I am so happy that I am able to continue doing this each day.  May God Bless Us, Everyone.

Good morning,.  Joan and all the Friends .

It is a cloudy morning and still chilly.  Supposed to warm up a little bit later in the week.

Jane,  I so agree with you about today's Food for Thought !   I tend to be a lot like you and keep things to myself.  I have that message saved and will try to put it to good use.  I would guess that a lot of us have burdens in our lives.

Thank you Joan, for that special story.

Not sure what I will do today. I had a very lazy day yesterday, so, hopefully, today I can get something accomplished.  Might not be a lot, but at least do a little something constructive.  And, I am sure a couple naps will happen off and on.

Hope everyone will have a great weekend.

Joy

Good morning, Joy.  I have a couple chores I should do--maybe they will get done, maybe not.:)

Good morning everyone, think I am finally rested from 3 busy days. I sure cannot not be on the go like even a year ago. My CNA was here yesterday and I let her do her job and stayed on the couch most of the day. Just being lazy these days. There is some light fog now but is lifting. Hope the sun shows today.

LARRY  my son has 2 ovens and both were full on Thursday with the turkey in one and different things in the other.  Makes me wonder how I ever made those big family meals with only one oven. Could be we organized better than my DIL and grand daughter. They were still preparing their new recipes with no organization. I like traditional on Thanksgiving not new foods. Wonderful Christmas surprise for her.

JOAN  so glad you heard from Joe. I was going to ask you how he was doing. Blood clots are bad news.

JOY  like you I was worn out by the time I got home Thursday and did nothing yesterday I did not have to do. I know what you mean about tight spaces getting around with a rollator. I am glad my sons both have railing for their outside steps. They are both great about helping me. Think they finally realize I am not the active person they were used to.

JUNE  the paramedics here know where to look for the meds list. They are the ones who put those little magnet pouches on the side of the fridge. Every year there is a meeting in the Community room with a medic and a policeman here to tell us what to be on the lookout for and the medics hand out new printed forms for us to list the meds and names on and put in that holder.

CALLIE  wow that is some job your son got for that landscaping job. My grandson has been doing better with his landscaping business. He love the designing and seeing how his ideas look when finished. On the way home Thursday I noticed quite a few houses with Christmas lights on. Way too early. I can see putting them up here before it snows but to light then up now is too much.

JOAN  the way I feel right now I might not even get any Christmas decorations out.

JANE  like your last sentence about do something else ot do nothing. That do nothing appeals to me.

JOAN  I will enjoy a bear claw this morning, love them. Oh boy that florist messed up with the anniversary card. Food for Thought is a keeper.  Good quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  looks like you will be doing a lot of driving into the city, not great in the winter months when you never know what the roads will be like. Hope your knee and elbow do not hurt too much today. Prayers for both of you.

JANE  glad you finally “let it go” Been there done that before I filed for divorce. My life has been better since then.

Hi everyone.  It is another sunny morning and we expect to get to at least 68 degrees today.  Yesterday got up to 80 degrees in our area.  Not much on the schedule for today.  I do plan on making a quick trip to Aldi's to get eggs and a couple of other items.  I will watch some basketball games this afternoon.  Yesterday I did make the sausage muffins and as I was turning them out of the pans one got away from me when splosh onto the floor. It was not a pretty site and I ended up with only 11 muffins rather than 12.  We did get the washing done yesterday but got a very late start.

Joy, I hope you enjoy your new Kindle Fire.  It is the large screen one?  My dad used to go down his basement steps backward holding on to the rail.  He said if he fell it would be facing up the steps and not down.  As a result he never fell on the stairs.  Perhaps one of your family members would be willing to put your machine in their car and drop it off at the repair location at their convenience and then later pick it up for you.

June, do you have locks on your doors?  Of course, I suppose the medical staff and other staff members have master keys so they can enter apartments as needed.  Glad you are getting a good nights sleep.  I don't think I have ever heard about Addison's disease.

Gloria, Pat always seemed to be trying new meals on special days or when we had company.  I think that almost always turned out well.  I accused her of doing that so if it wasn't good we wouldn't have so much of it to eat.  The only thing nontraditional for us yesterday was to have baked chicken rather than turkey.

Callie, great news about your son's big landscaping job at this time of the year.  I did put our Christmas wreath up yesterday.  I bought it last year and it is pretty.

Joan, yesterday seemed like Saturday to me also.  Pat is using a nebulizer for her asthma but only twice a day.  Even the co-pay on hers is quite expensive and sure glad she doesn't need it more than twice a day.  It does help her.  I keep telling her that her maintenance costs are going up quickly.

Amy, I feel for both of you in having such a long treatment of chemo.  Is this a once a week treatment plan?  So sorry to hear of your fall and certainly glad you didn't break anything.  Pat has the large quilting Bernina and a smaller "portable" one that is now really to heavy to be portable.  I do hope she will be able to get some good out of this Featherweight.  However, I just wanted her to have it while she can still use it.

JaneS, so glad you shared your burden about the future with us and know that many of us have also walked that same path.  However, things always have a way of working out and that worry doesn't solve anything but may steal the joy of today away.  You put those problems where they belong as God will carry them for you.  Today is going to be a good day.

Good morning, Larry.  Oops with the muffin.  I'm sure Pat will be absolutely delighted with the Christmas gift you got her.  Medicare + my supplement pays for the medicine that I use in the nebulizer and Medicare paid entirely for the machine itself for one year, after which it became mine.

Good Morning Everyone!

Janie, you couldn't have found a better friend to go to than the good Lord. He is and will always be right there beside you.

Amy, what a nasty fall.  I hope you are not to sore today and I also am happy it was not any worst than it was.  It looks like your hubby has a long row to hoe.  Hopefully he will have no adverse reactions to the chemo.  God bless you both.

Joanie, both your food for thought, as always, hit the mark.  As I have told you before: thank you.

It is a cloudy, kinda not a nice day out.  We have a COLD front on it's way, but Lloyd, Callie and Tisie will get it before us and more than likely much colder and other unsavory things that accompany cold fronts.

Funny thing this morning, I was out getting the paper and heard the mailmans truck, looked down the street and sure enough it was the mailLADY at just after 7, she was delivering packages and had one for us, some Mince Meat my wife had ordered.  Crosse and Blackwell. Hard to find and expensive to buy when you do find it. So she is now fixed up to make her Mince Meat tarts.

Gloria, like my Grandfather used to say, he wasn't lazy, just born tired and never could get rested.  I think all of us have those days where we just are not in the mood to even brush our teeth.  Have to force ourselves to do anything.

Well, we had our Wal-Mart incident yesterday.  A man was shot and killed and his wife wounded by another man who was beating on some woman in the parking lot and this guy stopped and told the man to leave the woman alone.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/11/26/police-man-shot-dead-while-trying-to-stop-man-from-beating-woman.html (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/11/26/police-man-shot-dead-while-trying-to-stop-man-from-beating-woman.html)

It truly was a black Friday for several families.

Good morning, halkel.  The sun has been in and out so far today, but like you, weatherguesser says a cold front is on its way.  Oh my, I love mince meat pie.  I was the only one in my family who liked it so didn't make it very often.  I saw a segment on the evening news warning folks to be vigilant about things that were to be delivered.  Packages are being stolen from porches all over the country.  Thanks for the link about the shooting.  It makes one afraid to leave the house.

Good Morning,

The frost was on the pumpkin this morning - or, at least, on the edges of the flower beds on the north side that were still in the shade.

Plan A for today is to mix up the "middle" of the Martha Washington candy to be kept in a Tupperware bowl in the fridge so I can "dip at leisure".

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Hal, do you think some of those mincemeat tarts can find their way to a hidey hole that leads to Michigan. Like Joan, I am the only one who likes either mince or mincemeat pie.

It's about 40 degrees so far today with no sun, but no rain.  I was able to get the mail while wearing a sweater as topper and I didn't suffer any.

Tom has just come in with a "bake-it-yourself" pizza and that will be our lunch.  Tom's friend gave us a peach pie she did not use for Thanksgiving dinner and I had a piece of that about 9 am - my brunch.

Amy Dearest, your day did not start out as well as we might hope for, but I am so very, very thankful you did not break anything in your fall. You are so needed for other things right now, I pray God will give you the health and strength and peace of mind to go forward in what has to be done, in safety, some rest, and peace of mind May God be with you every step of the way. Hugs

My Janie, I am SO glad that you were able to "Let go and Let God." You just push, push, push girl, and now you know you can't do it alone. Your tears and your good sleep is proof that God is taking care of you and lessening your burdens. I speak from experience and so I understand, and I love you more for allowing God to give you more help. my Hugs to you.

Larry, yes we have locks on our doors, and yes the staff has a master key..even the housekeeper and the maintenance men. I feel very secure in spite of the fact that so many have entrance. They are all bonded when hired, but from what I have witnessed, they are all "God's People". Loving and kind, and when the techs must come in, like for drawing blood, X-rays, etc., they come from an outside firm and are always accompanied by someone from our clinic who stands by throughout the procedure. Many of the residence keep their door wide open, as they like to see people passing by, and they don't feel so alone, or cooped up.  Just like in a hospital.

Hal, it is always a big blessing when we learn we are not alone. God is right there waiting for us to reach out. What sad news at the Walmart store..and in a Season of Joy like Christmas. From what I have read or been told, the original mincemeat actually has meat in it. The mincemeat pies that i have eaten have been of a fruit that I didn't care for..rather tart.

We are having a busy Saturday afternoon. I intend to attend two..a Variety Show in the fireside lounge, then a Hymn singalong with our Chaplain this evening. There are other activities, but I do not feel all that active. It is so nice to be able to pick and choose what we want to attend. We were supposed to have some heavy rain today and tapering off tomorrow.Right now the sun is shining brightly. It may blow in later...I hope.

My eyes are getting heavy already and want to take a short snooze, since I have a free morning, I'll kick back in the recliner and see what happens.

I didn't wait for Courtney and Cathy to go to the Amish store today.  Cathy is still having problems with her back and Courtney was still sleeping when I texted them at about 9:30 so I went by myself.  I needed to get chocolate for my candy making and they have the best price around.  In addition to chocolate, I got about $50. worth of groceries.  They are all put away and I waiting to see if Cathy wants me to come over and get her set up with "Dr. Shirley's" remedy for backache.

Thanks everyone for your comments on my "let go".  I do still feel better and he is watching over me.  When I left the store, I opened the trunk of my car and loaded my groceries in, put the cart in the cart corral and half way home, I realized that I'd left my purse in the cart.  I gasped out a prayer that it would still be there, turned around and headed back to the store.  IT WAS THERE and there had been numerous people by there because the corral was empty when I pushed my cart in and there were at least a dozen carts there by the time I got back.  As I snatched it out of the cart a man said, "You were lucky!"  I said, "Maybe but I think someone up there was watching over me."  He anwered, "You're absolutely right about that".  So I have another reason to thank God for today!  You can all help me with that thank you!

Good afternoon, sun shinning about 55, and NO wind.

Spent a quite day Thanksgiving, but yesterday a friend drove out from Levittetown, to suprise me.  She took me out to dinner, went to visit other friends and came back to spend the night.  Just left a little white ago.

Amy, so sorry about your fall, but glad you did not break anything. Prays also go for you and your dear hubby.

Larry, i know your wife will be happy with her gift. Even the instruction book is a collectors item.  I had to pa $10. for one a few years ago. My machine is now 68 years old, and works like a charm. I just this year gave it to my DIL.  My husband use to take care of it every year.No plastic on that one, all metal.

I still have our Walmarts put my watch battery in all my watches.

Callie--When that candy is fully made would you please put some in the "hidey hole"?

Mary Ann--I had an uncle who had stock in a company that made mincemeat.  Every Christmas he used to send me gallon.  I sure couldn't use all of it making pie and cookies, so I shared with my neighbors.

June--Enjoy the Variety show and the hymn sing-a-long.

Janie--I sure hope Cathy gets some relief for her back pain.  I do thank God that your forgotten purse was still there in the basket when you went back.

Linedancer--How nice that your friend came for a surprise visit.

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

It is a beautiful day here in the Mile High City....
Nearly 60* And the sun sure does feel good.  Next week we go into the deep freeze....not looking forward to that!

AMY, I, too. Am so sorry to read about your fall, but thankful that you did not hurt yourself any worse than you did?  Continued thoughts and prayers for you and your DH.

JANE, I felt sadness for you as you explained your feelings, but it sure did make me smile after I read that you were able to let go and get some relief after ready JOAN'S nice thought for the day.  I had the sinking feeling as I read about you leaving your purse in the grocery cart...so thankful it was there when you returned.  🙏🙏

CALLIE, it is good to read that your son his this good job coming up during what is normally the slower months.  Good for him.

We are going to get our Christmas Tree up today... so far the tree is standing, but the spirit has not moved Bob to bring up the decorations.  Of course he is watching football, just like yesterday! Ugh!

Yesterday was a very BLACK day for our community.  A state patrolman was killed on the interstate while he was tending to a accident...a large delivery truck struck him.  Why people can not slow down and follow the rules is beyond me.... sadly, he leaves a wife and two elementary aged daughters.

I am making soup with the turkey carcus and it is time to go pick the meat off the bone.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

Jenny--It seems that about all there is on TV is football.  I will get a minimal amount of Christmas decorations out after Dec. 1.  Turkey soup sounds so good.  One thing about not cooking a turkey dinner that I miss is not having the leftovers.  So many wonderful police officers being killed--so sad.  Last week here even a canine officer got killed.

I almost forgot...back when I was growing up, there were always mince pies for the holidays.  My father supplied the mincemeat using some from butchering at my grandparents farm and in later years, my husband supplied venison for making mincemeat.  I haven't thought about that since my father passed away.  I never liked mincemeat so never learned the process.  Seemed like Thanksgiving came and we never lacked for a mincemeat pie to serve them.  Daddy always said that venison was the only realy meat for making mincemeat.  You can't prove it by me.

Shirley, (and anyone else who's interested) Cathy just texted me to say the Dr Shirley treatment has helped and we're going to do it again tomorrow.  Thank you Shirley!  And we had such a nice chat while she soaked that now she knows Shirley and where she lives and that she takes care of cats and has a son who camps with her and, and...and lots of other stuff.  Her comment?  "She sounds a lot like you, mom!"  She said this while we were talking.

I'm off to scrounge up some supper and feed the doggies and then I'm just going to goof of the rest of the evening.  Enjoy!

I rarely have anything that I think to offer this group, but reading JaneS's story and her good  luck finding her purse where she left it, reminded me of a true story that happened similar to what happened to JaneS...only this time, I found a ladies purse in a shopping basket out in the parking lot.  I checked the wallet and there was a telephone number in it where I then called speaking to the person who had not missed the wallet up to the time of my call.  After deciding on a meeting place close to where I lived, and convincing me that she indeed was the owner of the wallet, we met and I returned the wallet to her...She offered me some money as a reward from the small amount in the purse, which I refused only having her promise me , that if it happened to her, to get in touch with the owner as I did..That  would be thanks enough for me...As everything turned out  well for all parties involved, I  felt kinda good...and everyone should have that feeling too...

Larry,   the Kindle I am getting is the Kindle Fire HD 8  with a 8 in. screen display.  That is what it said.  So, it will be bigger than the one I already have.  The one I have is a Kindle Fire, but I guess, a smaller model.   I have had it for 2 or 3 years.  This new one is supposed to have some kind of a "voice"  message response, which you can ask a question and someone answers it??  That will be interesting.  It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I have gotten deliveries on Sunday, and I am hoping they will be able to figure out the call box to be able to buzz my phone and I can let them in.   One time, packages were left outside on a Sunday.  Luckily, someone went out and saw the packages and called me to let me know that a package was there and they had brought it inside the building.

As for the sewing machine getting repaired, the problem is the times when my son could drop it off, they are closed by the time he gets there.  I think the place is open a half-day on Saturday's,  but I can never remember to see if he could get there at that time. He never knows when he will have to work on Sat.  I must remember to write myself a note to see if he might could get there on a Sat.  I have several notes stuck on the back of my apartment door, reminding me to put a note on the door if I am expecting someone and I might be in the laundry room or downstairs in the lounge.

Hope you were able to get the batteries for your watch.

Have a good evening.

Joy

Well, Jane, that's about the nicest thing anyone could say, that I sound like you!  Tell her "she made my day!" and that I am very flattered she tried the Epsom salt & hope she remembers how it works the rest of her life, it has never let me down.

I am heading to stop and see my brother this week, & go on down to put Christmas flowers on our parents graves... and spend a couple nights at "the lake".  I love the cold weather, the leaves on the ground & so nice
to relax with nobody but 3 cats to deal with.  I'd really enjoy a dog to take walks with and that would listen for "sounds" during the night. I've never seen a deer in the campground but do see them when I make the short drive to the entrance. Figure I'd better go before the snow flies.

I've never tasted mincemeat, heard plenty about it but it didn't sound like something I'd like so always managed to politely skip trying.  I'm sure it is delicious to those that like it!

Amy, I am so sorry for the added suffering for your husband and will be praying for both of you that the treatment works and has no side effects.  I'm jealous of your waltz with the snow blower, had mine gassed up last year and no snow all winter.

Jackie, it was such a thrill to read your news, but such a shame you had to wait so long to find out. Enjoy each day of the holiday season, be happy for what you have today, don't mourn for what is gone but be grateful that you had the pleasure of his company the years you did.  (((hugs)))

I need to go feed some hungry cats.... probably 5 of them tonight.  I saw Tommy II out front earlier but not time to eat.  I can't just leave food out for him since it only attracts the opossum, raccoons & skunks. I have not seen any skunks for a year or so but had the fattest opossum hiding out in my garage eating the food I keep in there for Ms Callie (Tom & Tiger's mother).  When my son managed to scare it out from under the work bench it was so big it could hardly waddle... and it had not been using the litter box!   >:(

I am so far behind in checking the messages.

We had a much too quiet Thanksgiving all alone and I did feel "down" for a while because--- I wasn't able to cook for the family and phone calls weren't enough.  This was not as as bad as the Thanksgiving I had been sent to Detroit, Michigan.  Spent that afternoon in a movie house eating popcorn - no food anywhere so alone in the hotel.  It was awful.  Tomorrow, we will drive half way to Phoenix and meet with two of our sons - here in the area on business - as well as

one DIL.  Hooray - it makes me feel better already.

Amy:  I missed the post of your husband's health news but sending you a hug.

Joan:  I do hope your son is totally recuperated - a scary time for the family.  Prayers for all.

Beverly:  Congrats on your celebrating 60 years of marriage!

I think we should really celebrate every birthday and anniversary even more than ever.

Janie, my eyes are full of happy tears for the safety of your purse. God was sorta saying, "See...I am with you always." Happiness grows.

I had a nice nap this morning, went down for lunch and home to another nap. Then lined up my prescriptions and took some down for a refill. Enjoying the nice rain this afternoon and evening, hoping it will last through tomorrow. It is a light rain, but every little bit is so welcome.

Chia, it is always a delight to have you pop in on us here at the S.S., and doesn't it feel good to have helped someone else like you did. My son, when he was just a little boy spotted a wallet on the ground when we were out shopping. We called the name and it turned out to be a man with a family and it had his latest pay in it. He was so delighted, he made Dan a hand-tooled holster for his toy pistol.

Janie, what a good mother you are to help out your daughter with the epsom salt application . It would be pretty difficult to try to apply it on oneself…but I'll bet Shirley (Tisie) would have a method. She can do just about everything ! She's a "Gooder".

Bis, the Variety Show was a kind of a bust….the tape kept messing up, but tonight will make up for it. Singalongs are always fun. Thanks.

June, Shirley does have a method for doing it for yourself and I've already used that method myself but I was pretty sure Cathy wouldn't do it unless I went there and got her set up the first time.  She did say that maybe someone there will help her tomorrow and I'm betting Craig (her husband) will come through.  He's a good guy.  His comment when he saw me coming..."Are you here to work your voodoo on Cathy's aching back?"  But he was impressed when it helped.  I think she was a bit surprised herself!

Epson Salts and coal oil were frequently used when I was growing up.
For those interested coal oil, similar to Kerosene, was used as an antiseptic on cuts, nails (stepped on kind) and scrapes.

June, now days, so I learned a couple of years ago when I messed up an arm, they don't want scabs to form.  They want the wound to heal from the bottom to top.  Doctor explained that if a scab formed they would remove it.  Reason, that is where infection forms.  I had such a bad wound that I had to go to a special doctor who treated wounds.  They used lots of medication and washed it under the tap when they came to change the dressing.

Janie, I'm so glad your Cathy has a good guy that can help her. My Edward was helpless when it came to doing something like that, so I learned to pretty much care for myself, unless it was serious. It must be a blessing to have a daughter nearby. I"m glad for you.

Hal, I waited for 21 days for that leg to heal. They insisted daily of  fresh bandages and an antibiotic salve, completely sealed in for all that time. Then the last of the 21 days, I woke in the night with severe pain in the sore. And I kept hearing the sore saying, "give me some oxygen…I am going to rot under here". And it was then that I saw my doctor, and she said, you will take the bandage off when you are home, but lightly cover it when you go out. So I did. I have had three nights of solid sleep…no pain. A very thin scab is forming, it is still checked daily to see there is no infection, and they agree with me that the leg needed oxygen. I really appreciate your information and it does make sense, but somehow this case must have been different. I do have lousy arteries in my legs..not enough blood flow bringing in oxygen, and I did wait for 21 days Hal, and I hope I am not making a mistake, but they all seem to agree with what I asked. Sorry I have written such a book about it.

We had a great Hymn sing tonight. Finished with Joy to the World..all sang loud and clear. It was nice. Tomorrow are Chapel Services, so I need to get to bed soon.

Have a good night dear ones. God loves us. June
