Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's bacon and eggs to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely graphic creation which we are using this week.

Food For Thought

The House That I Live In
(By Mary R. Selleck, on the occasion of her 105th birthday)

1868-1973:
Those are the years I have lived in this house.
Perhaps you are moved to declare:
"Such a long, long time! Your house
Must sadly be in need of repair."

Yes, the foundation is a bit shaky
And the walls are beginning to sway,
The windows have lost their sparkle,
The brown roof has turned to gray.

But please don't confuse this house with me,
I am ageless, and the very day
This earthly abode is unfit for me
I'll leave, and be on my way.

To that place prepared, my title is clear;
God's goodness has failed me never;
His presence has blessed me all the days of my life
And I shall dwell in That presence forever.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I like the Christian Motto!  I'd like to take as many with me as possible, too.

I have to go get ready for church.  Time's short on Sunday morning.  I'll be back later.  I hope Everyfriend has a great day!

Hi everyone.  It is another clear and cool Sunday morning here in South Carolina.  Today will be our typical Sunday although as of last night Pat was talking about trying to go to church this morning.  If she decides to do so she won't try to do both Sunday School and church.  I have to decide whether to go to Sunday School and then leave about 15 minutes early to come home and get her or to skip Sunday School, which I really hate to do.  If she goes to church we will probably stop somewhere for lunch on the way home.  I watched the football games yesterday and was sorry to see Georgia lose to Georgia Tech.  Also South Carolina lost big time to Clemson, which really wasn't a surprise as Clemson has probably the second best football team in the country.  I will watch some of the pro football games this afternoon and also listen to Don's radio program.

Joan, we have the same experience with the CPAP machines in that BC/BS only rents them for a period of 10 months but after that the machine belongs to the patient and the monthly co-pay ends.  Fortunately those co-pays have ended for both Pat and I as we have paid them almost all of this year.

Hal, I relate to your comments about being tired all day and having to force myself to do much of anything.  Usually I have energy in the mornings but it is pretty well gone by afternoon and certainly by evening.

Joan, the stealing of delivered packages left outside a door must be a nightmare for everyone involved.  Fortunately I have never experienced that and feel safer from that happening where I now live than where we did live since we are not on the beaten path.

JaneS, so glad you didn't lose your purse.

deAngel, I appreciate your comments about the longevity of the sewing machine.  I went with Pat one time to a quilting weekend and I saw several of the ladies were using them for their quilting.

Jenny, this has been a great long weekend to watch football.  At least it is something real happening.  Sorry to hear of the patrolman being killed.  Everyone is in such a hurry anymore.  At least it wasn't a random killing of a police officer that seems to be a daily occurrence now in this country.

Chia, thanks for sharing your experience with the lady's purse.  There are many good people in this world and she was fortunate that you found the purse and not someone who would not have returned it.  I bet your have much to share with us so don't worry about content.  It is just seeing a person's name on a posting that makes this a community of friends.

Joy, the voice response system is very handy when you want to research something or for other uses.  I use the Apple service called Siri and Google also has the service.  I can say "Hey Siri" call Scott mobile and it was make the call for me without further effort on my part.  I bet you will like your new Kindle Fire.  Pat has one of the first one's available and it is pretty obsolete and doesn't hold a charge anymore. I found the store where I went for the watch battery was closed until Monday.  I will try to get one on Monday.

Shirley, I also used your Epsom salt in a pan of water to ease the pain of the ingrown toenails and it helped.  Enjoy your trip and keep your phone at hand.

Hal, I had never heard that doctor's no longer wanted scabs to form on a wound.  Interesting.

Good morning, Amy.  I can well imagine how sore you are after your fall.  You've had some long trying days, so you needed that long sleep.

Larry--Good morning.  Glad to hear that Pat is feeling well enough to be considering attending church.  We are a gated community, but if those package stealers want to get in they can find a way.  However, I have never had anything taken.  I knew about doctors not wanting scabs to form over a wound.  When we lived in AR, Ray fell off a ladder while painting the house and got some nasty wounds on his face and arms.  He had to go to the doctor's office every day for them to remove any scabbing so the wounds could heal from beneath and get ointment slathered on them.

Good Morning Everyone!
Just a quick response to mark my place.

June, I am sure you know what is best for you.  I made the comment more of a "just to be saying something" than an admonishment.

Larry, I too was taken back by the wound centers comments.  When I went to emergency room when I first did it they just put some non=stick coverings on it and said it will be okay when a scab forms.  And when I went to my doctor a day or so later he told me I needed to see a wound doctor and didn't do anything.  So I went to wound center and they handled it.

Oh, one thing June, funny when I was going they checked it and said it is doing nicely, it was in a place on my arm I couldn't really see, but it seems that it healed overnight, really, went in to wound doctor and he said it is okay to leave the bandage off, you got baby skin now, just keep it out of the sun and and some lotion on it.  It will sunburn very easily.

Got to run, Amy sorry your sore.......slow down lady.  Tomorrow does exist.

Good morning everyone, sun is shining bright at last. Should have stayed awake a little longer and greeted Jon when she got here. Could not get comfortable in bed so got up and tried to sleep on the couch and that didn't work either. All that I did during the week caught up with me and my back was throbbing. Finally had a pain pill and half an hour later went back to bed and I did fall asleep.

LARRY  I do not mind one different food but at least have some traditional ones along with it.

HAL  like what your grandfather said. I feel that way at times but always managed to keep busy with a full time job, house and family. These days I have days I just do not feel like moving. Makes me feel like I am lazy. The man beating the woman is the one who should have been shot. Any man who hits a woman is not much of a man IMHO.

JUNE  the only ones with master keys here is the Manager and the maintenance man. I think the medics must have one, too. Most lock their doors at night and often the medics are called at night. I always lock my door.

JANE  I long ago put my problems in God's hands and life has been much better since then. Hope your daughter finds relief for he back, terrible when it hurts, I know about that.

CHIA  my daughter's FIL lost his check book so went to the bank to cancel that account and open a new one. When he got home there was a lady at his door. She found it and since she knew the area she went to return it to him. He was lucky as she could have been a bad person and wiped out that account.

JOY  like you everyone who comes here has to buzz the apartments to be let in. On occasion a delivery person will dome in when someone else does and will knock on my door. I always ask how they got in. I tell them I prefer them buzzing my apartment.

SHIRLEY  as far as I am concerned you did not miss anything by not having tasted mince meat. I never liked it.

PHYLLIS  love this week's graphic. I laughed when I saw it. Can picture that happening and the cat not very happy with it.

JOAN  love crisp bacon and eggs over light so will enjoy your breakfast this morning. Good chuckle. Food for thought is great. Love that lady's thoughts. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  you deserve a day of rest. I have one apple crisp left in my freezer. I have enough apples to make another batch, just need the get up and go to do it.

I'm home from church and melting chocolate.  My goal for the day is to finish dipping the peanut butter saltines.  Courtney is coming by on her way home to Phila. to say "goodbye" and then the rest of the afternoon will be candy production.  She'll take a couple to eat on the way home, I'm sure.

Have to go get started!  Enjoy your day!

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND.

Love all the goodies you have for us this morning, JOAN.  Thank you so much!  Yes, the guy in the stands with the hot dog CAN play all of those positions!  Sad but true!

PHYLLIS, your kitty cat graphic does look like he could be here in Colorado today.  No snow on the ground at my house, but the sky is very dark and mean looking!  I am so glad I am not going to the Bronco Game tonight as it is going to be SO cold and might just snow!

When Dr. Dave decided to go into wound care, I must admit I thought it was a waste of his trained surgical skills....but wound care is a BIG thing these days.  Because he is a surgeon he is capable of debreading wounds and therefore has a wonderful success rate.  He also is able to run the hyperbaric chamber for the extreme cases.

AMY, I bet you are very sore from your tumble.  Just so thankful you did not break a bone.

LARRY, there sure were a lot of good games yesterday.....I really enjoyed watching my Colorado Buffalos win.  They have really turned things around this year.  Yes, I am saddened at all the intentional killing of our men in blue these days.  Just makes NO senses.   Some here have even gone so far as to say this truck driver did this intentionally....as he had plenty of room and would have been able to get over!  Just a very sad thought!

GLORIA, I am sorry you had a rough night.  I remember reading about the younger ones wanting to try all these new things for our traditional meals... I am with you.....keep the tradition.....it is just fine.  My grandma always made this sea foam salad and put it in this beautiful dark red bowl.  My youngest son asked me Tgiving day morning if I was taking the jello salad in that bowl for our dinner?  It made me smile that he too, loves traditional things and remembers that bowl.

YEA, DON. That is wonderful news!  When will you go?

Enjoy your Sunday.

Jenny

Good morning, Gloria.  Sorry you had such a difficult time getting to sleep last night.  I like my bacon so crisp it snaps.:)

Radioman--Good morning.  GREAT you've been cleared and you have your ticket to Israel.

Janie--That candy/saltines sounds so good.  Enjoy your short visit with Courtney.

I love the picture of the cat in the snow.  I doubt my cat would even venture out in the snow and he's not too crazy about going out in the cold.  I offer to let him out on my deck and he hesitates before he goes and and it's only a couple of minutes before I see him at the slider wanting to get back in.

Dot and I did our usual Sunday morning thing - church, OTB, gab.  We both had burgers today along with a sweet roll which we eat while waiting for the burgers to be done.

Joan, Dot lives in the same condo complex as I do so it is easy to get together.  She's much busier than I am, so it usually is for church that we are together, but sometimes we go out in the afternoon for a snack.  We're two streets apart.

Don.  That will be interesting. Bigger thrill for the Kids.
Now did you just buy your ticket. I figured that the flights would be really busy going that way around New Years. How long does it take? Planes to change?

Good. I still got to hear the "Warsaw Concerto" That has always been my favourite. I have worn out 3 recordings of it over the years. Now need to find another good one.
Will enjoy the rest of the show.  Looks like the are commercializing it this week. Thats O.K. they are short.  Not like our TVs at the moment . they cut the shows in half.  Tiss the Season I suppose. Will last a month now.

Good evening everyone  A nice Nov. Day

Joan, I also like my bacon well done.  When I was In Iceland, they knew who the Americans were, as they always sent their bacon back to be cooked more.

Hal, when I was living in SC, i caught my hand in a big fan, and I had big cuts on a couple of gingers.  My mother was not home, and the lady next door was from Texas, she took me out to the oil drum and pored coal oil on my hand.

June, this summer when I cut my leg, when the planter fell over, it took a long time to heal. Over two months. I had to go to the doctor once a week, in the mean time, I had to rebanage it every day. I also like you, have very bad circulation in my legs and feet.

Tomorrow I know I am going to be tired, as at 11, I go for my first PT, at 12:30 go to have new hearing aid checked, the at 1 see eye doctor.

Phyllis, loved that kitty cat graphic, thanks

Hello,
What a dreary day it's been in central Oklahoma.   The only indication we had rain was that the cars were wet when we came out of church but the cold damp wind surely made my eyes water.
However, the "Hanging of the Greens" service was wonderful.   The younger children were involved and it was neat to see how solemnly they brought in ornaments for the tree, candles for the Advent wreath, poinsettias, and figures for the crèche.  They had been well trained!

The OTL bunch stuck with local issues today - so no solutions to share.  ;)

Gloria all four of us had the "Lite" breakfast of 1 egg, 1 pancake, and choice of bacon or sausage for $4.69.  However, one lady wanted an extra pancake and one wanted an extra egg so those checks were a dollar higher.

JaneS,  so glad we're not competing with the candy dipping.  You're going to be so far ahead of me that I won't have a chance!

Don,  so happy to learn that you were cleared to travel and have your tickets for Israel.

Amy,  I don't remember telling you how sorry I was about your fall....but I was thinking it!  Hope you're getting "betterer and betterer".

Gloria,  I don't have any one day with that many medical appointments, but I have more than usual during the next two weeks.  Sure cuts into the holiday fun.

I put away the Fall/Thanksgiving decorations today.  Housecleaner comes on Tuesday and I'll start putting out Christmas things then.....leisurely, of course.

Jenny,  the weather news sounded as if you're sending your snow this direction.  Also sounded as if Hal is sending us warm moist air at the same time, so OKC "might" have hail and strong winds overnight.
Thanks a lot, guys!   ;D

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere has had an enjoyable day - and will sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

It is overtime in the Bronco /Chief's game...I am a nervous wreck!

GO BRONCOS!

Pleasant dreams EVERYFRIEND!

Amy, I too had a good giggle when Phyllis's graphic appeared. I can feel your soreness dear. I am glad you are taking a day of rest.

Hal, dear friend, if I sounded offended by your post, I was not. You are a kind man and was relating what you knew. I appreciate your caring.

Bis, it looks like God was really looking closely at our Hals wound. Some of us are told to wait. So we try to obey, right ?

Gloria, I lock my door too, so when someone walks in when I am asleep I know it is staff, and they usually use my name in greeting too. So I am never alarmed. Everyone that comes here has to use the front entrance, and if they are visitors they sign in at the front desk, then we are called by phone to see if we want them to be allowed in. I'm sure the smart ones know they could sneak in with a group or something, but so far I have had no problem. I don't feel defenseless in any case. I have fingernails and an opponents eyes are a good target. If one is grabbed from behind you push your self into the assailant and set them off balance, so you have a yelling time, or opportunity to fight back.

Don, Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you and for Bubble too. Between the two of you scooting around to visit, it makes our world seem like a smaller place to live. I am SO happy for you.

Jenny I used to make the Under the Sea salad way back in my cooking days. I had forgotten all about it till you mentioned it now.

Gloria de, you did have a very long healing time on your leg?  With our poor circulation problem healing does take a much longer time. Do you have a discoloration of the lower legs and arms, as I have ? My ailment is called Peripheral Arterial disease so it affects all four of my "peripherals".  :)

Good morning everyone..

Where is Lloyd???

Too early to get up but couldn't go back to sleep......going to be a long day.

Taking my van in for an oil change this morning ,then helping a neighbour with wood/limbs. Hydro cut down a tree and he doesn't burn wood...we do :)  Will also help load all the brush to be taken to the dump. May sneak in some sewing too :))

I did manage to get some sewing in yesterday but spent some time with Jack (the stitch ripper) anyone that sews knows this is not a welcome date!!

Jenny, I too, am so thankful no bones were broken..I can't have anything happening now, not even a cold!!

Gloria de, when I order breakfast out I always ask for my bacon crisp.

Callie, thank you, yes I am getting better and betterier :) Knee is the worst but it has a chance to stay in bed when I get up or come with me and it always comes with me......guess it doesn't want to miss out on the days happenings  :2funny:

Jackie, good morning...

Joan, thank you for breakfast

Another "slow show" reporting in this morning.  I was just too tired and my eyes were hurting too much last night to come by.  Right now it's 25º here but it's going up to 50 by midday!  Not so bad for November.

I
m on call this moring.  If Kiran is still in bed when it's time for Daddy to be going to work, he's going to call me and I'll go and wait there until she wakes up.  There's no school today and we're going to "hang out" together.  Ever since she was about 4 we've gone shopping for specific toys to drop in the TOYS FOR TOTS box at the front of WM.  That's on our agenda for today and then we'll have lunch at McDonalds and then come home and make some cookies.  I have the chocolate chip all mixed and ready to go.  Maybe we'll watch MIRACLE ON 24TH STREET together.  She has to watch it here because it's on tape and I'm the only hold out with a tape player any more.

Callie, I don't have "chocolate dipping contests" with anyone but myself.  Certain things have to be ready to send to Texas (and since Ali's wedding, to Oklahoma too) in time for Christmas.  So those are the things I do first.  The pb saltines are finished.  I finished all that I have spread, counted them and I have enough.  I'll start the PB cups next and then coconut.  The centers are all mixed.  The tedious part is making the centers.  I have a place to sit where I can see the TV and I always watch WHITE CHRISTMAS while I roll balls.  Then the Christmas music plays while I dip!

I hope you all have a great day and that all your ailments are small and all your joys are HUGE!!!

Good morning, Joan and all the other early friends.

I  have been awake since about 3 a.m.  Woke up from a very disturbing dream. Glad it was only a dream, but left me a little rattled. Finally went to sit in my recliner, but still couldn't get back to sleep.  Got up at 5 and fixed myself some breakfast.  Got on the computer.  That seems to calm me down when I am feeling anxious for various reasons.

I plan on taking a nap sometime this morning. I have a couple phone calls to make around 8:30.

Joan, I was supposed to have gotten my new Kindle yesterday (Sunday), but had an e-mail where delivery was attempted, but didn't get delivered. The message said a peach note was placed on the door.   I went down to the front entrance, and no package and no peach note.  Since this is a secured building, there is no one in the office on the week ends. However, there is a call box where a person can scroll down to my name and buzz me on my phone.  Most delivery people know to do this, but evidently, the one who came yesterday, did not know what to do. So, I plan on calling my post office when they open to see what I am supposed to do in order to get my package.  Not sure if my local PO will have it on for delivery today.  There was a tracking number on the e-mail, so hope that will help.
Never had a problem before with any Sunday deliveries from Amazon.

It looks like it is going to be a sunny day, but starting out only in the low 30's.  At least the sun will be shining.

Jane, sounds like such a fun day with Kiran.  I wish I had my great-grand daughters close by that I could be spending a day with them doing some fun things.  Unfortunately, my grandchildren are grown and live out of town,  as do the great's, also.  I miss seeing them all.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy

Good morning, Joy.  Bummer that the person delivering your new Kindle didn't know protocol. I hope they will redeliver today.

Lloyd--Good morning.  I am sorry you haven't been feeling well, but you did manage to get out and about.  Take it easy today.

Good morning!  The very first thing I have to say is "Thank You!" to all of you who noticed and liked my graphic that Joan used yesterday morning.  It gives me a giggle, too.  I named the graphic "Ughhhhh!".  I think I can guess what that cat was feeling when the snow dumped on him/her.

Don, now the excitement and anticipation will build until travel day comes.  So happy that the doctors gave you a "go" and that soon you and Bubble will be together.

Amy, I'm glad the fall wasn't any more serious than soreness and stiffness.  I understand your worry about what would happen if you couldn't do all the things that you are called upon to do.  Probably hard for you to "slow down" but try, anyway.

So many posts to read and to share all the concerns and joys but, I do think of each one of you and say a little "Please, God," prayer for everyone of you.

I was indulging in a "pity party" yesterday so spent most of the day bingeing on the Poldark series on PBS.  They ran a marathon viewing clear into the late evening and I watched most of it, I think.  I've had about enough Poldark to last me for awhile.

Joan, I loved today's Chuckles.  Who among us here has not done one or all of those things?  I know I have.....many, many times.

Today is the usual sort of Monday.  Laundry to be done and maybe some online Christmas shopping.  I'm off to get some breakfast and get the whole thing started.  I hope it will be a good day for all of my friends who show up in the Soda Shoppe today.

Good morning, Phyllis.  "Uggghhh" is a perfect name for your cute graphic.  I'm not much for watching marathon series--another "whatever floats your boat".  I think I've done all of those chuckles several times over the years.  I'm going to do some online shopping today, too.  I have a list right here by my computer.

Good Morning Everyone!

Joanie, as usual, liked your food for thought.  Yesterday our minister continued his sermon on Angels, both the good and the bad.  I sometimes forget God's helpers who does his bidding.

Janie, your house must smell so good, good thing I am not there I would be in trouble with you, sneaking a nibble or two.  Sounds like you and Kiram have your day planned.  I know she is looking forward to all you have planned.

Amy, you always amaze me.  Always on the go and with such a sense of good humor and zest. I know the Angels that watch over you must say "hey slow down".  I hope your DH is feeling better.

Not much on tap here today.  The old weather just stays cloudy and looks like it wants to turn loose at any minute, but, of course it doesn't.  Weatherlady said last night suppose to break up and become sunny this afternoon.  Our trees are still fully leaved out, wish we could get some frost but looks like going to be one of those winters, fronts come in dry and have lost their punch times they get here.  Typical Texas.

Jenny sorry you Bronco's lost, our Texans lost too.  Also the University of Texas fired their head coach and hired the U of Houston coach.  Poor outgoing coach only got a few million for losing his job.
:'(

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning everyone, a frosty one her but the sun is shining

DON  glad you have a clean bill of health once again and can travel to Israel. Enjoy the trip.

JANE  wish I could make the candy I used to for Christmas. I am happy for you that you are still able to do all you do.

JENNY  your son is a blessing to those with wounds that do not heal. I will have a traditional meal for Christmas. My grandson informed me yesterday that he and his wife will be hosting it this year and have invited me. I will get to see my little great grandson, too. That is a bonus for me. He is growing so fast. Some holiday meals should not be a time of trying crazy food.

JOAN  for you and me, if bacon does not snap it is not cooked thoroughly.

JEANNE P  like you I enjoyed hearing the Warsaw Concerto yesterday, a long time favorite.

GLORIA de  I did not even open my door yesterday, just spent a lazy day doing just about nothing except enjoy Don's program.

CALLIE  that “Lite” breakfast  would have been too much for me. Either one egg OR one pancake/bacon would have been more than enough. At one time I could have enjoyed all of it, even with extras.

JUNE  here they have to buzz the apartments and announce themselves. If we want to let them in we can and if we do not want to see them we can just not hit the number on the phone to deny them. I really dislike when someone knocks at my door because they walked in when the door opened for someone else. We have a fob to release the door when we come in and a key for the back door.

JACKIE  I think we all rejoice when someone has a no cancer  told to them after a test. That is indeed the best news.

JOAN  I like mini muffins can have 2 of them. Love your chuckles, I think we have all done at least one of those. Copied Food for Thought and will be sending it on. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  that stitch ripper is not a joy. I remember having to do that when I would have to put a zipper in anything. Always had a problem with that.

JANE  after the warm weather for November when we get a cold one now if is a shock but really to be expected for this time of year. I know I have to start wearing my winter jacket and I do not look forward to it.

JOY  the mailman we have here has his own fob to get into the building. If something has to be signed for he will go to that apartment. If it fits in the mailbox that is where it goes and if it is a package he puts it on the table set aside for that. People have been honest and never taken anything that does not belong to them. Our mail room is across the hall from the laundry room.

LLOYD  Hope you feel better.

PHYLLIS  I think we all have a pity party at times. I know I have. Hope your outlook is better today.

HAL  I can send you frost like we had this morning. Looked almost like show on the roof and cars.

Hi everyone.  It is an overcast 51 degree morning here in South Carolina but expected to get to 69 this afternoon.  They have put the possibility of some rain in the forecast for the next few days and it will be most welcome as it is very dry here.  We still haven't had a killing frost and flowers are still in bloom outside, including my 5 small azalea bushes in front of my porch and my potted Impatien plant that waited until late to bloom.

Pat did feel up to going to church with me yesterday.  I went to Sunday School and then left a few minutes early and came back home and picked her up.  It is almost exactly a 10 minute drive each way and we got there just as the minister was making announcements before the service began.  After church we went to the Sunshine Grill and split a club sandwich.  They are very large and Pat just removed the wheat bread from her portion and had plenty to eat.  We did get a call from our Nigerian "grandson", who had just returned to college from being home for Thanksgiving.

Today is going to be a light day with only my noon meeting on tap.  I just did something that will save me a trip to the Credit Union.  I had a couple of small checks to deposit.  So I used the mobile app on my phone to deposit them.  It worked wonderfully well and I could immediately see the balance increase as it was accepted.  I decided not to attend the Men's monthly meeting tonight at the church as it will be dark for the trip both ways.  I do plan on attending a special Christmas music program that will be held Thursday evening at our church with our choir director playing the piano and the choir singing with apparently some other special musical  things planned.

Hal, I believe in the would care doctors as both my Dad and Stacey were referred and got help from them.  Stacey also went to a pain clinic every month for the last two or three years of her life.

Gloria, I agree with you on wanting some of our traditional foods on special days.  Glad your pain pill helped you get some sleep and I hope your back pain was relieved when you awoke.  Like both you and June, I would not be comfortable going to bed with my outside doors unlocked although fine I have done that a few times.

Don, nice to see you have your ticket for your trip and expect you will be counting down the days.  Will previously recorded music programs be used on the radio while you are gone?

Jenny, sorry that your Broncos didn't win last night.  I passed on watching the game as had previously watched both the Falcon's and the Panther's games.  My mother used to make the sea foam salad and it was always a favorite of mine.

Amy, you may have a few additional sore muscles after working up the wood with your neighbor.  I have seen my wife remove many stitches over the years and it didn't look like fun.

Joy, sorry that you were disappointed with not getting the new Kindle Fire. I do hope you get it today.

Good morning, halkel.  Oh yes, sometimes I forget about God's angels.

Gloria--Good morning.  The sun is shining here, and there's a nice breeze.  How nice that your grandson and his wife will be hosting Christmas and that you'll get to see your darling great grandson.  Growing up our traditional Christmas meal was ham.

Good morning, Larry.  It's dry here, too, and there have been several wildfires.  GREAT that Pat felt like going to church yesterday.  I've never deposited checks electronically.  I'll have to look into that.

I am having a weird day. Woke happily, ready to lay back and enjoy waking to a new, lovely day. I rushed down to the laundry first thing to wash out the orange metamucil I had spilled the whole way down the front of my pajamas and slipppers, forgot the pajamas I had put in shower to dry,so they will stay in the shower to dry till it is time to wash again. I'm too tired to keep track of my mis-deeds. Any how, while my stuff was still in the washer when I found another resident sitting it the only chair with a big bundle of clothing, waiting for me to finish...I hate that . It is a small laundry area and I would never dream of crowding others this is the second offense I have run into. O.K. so I am having a lesson in patience. I'm trying, but not to receptive.

Today is grocery delivery  day, so I will be at home from 11 to 3 awaiting my grub. and grabbing some snoozes along the way. I am ready for a snooze right now.

June--You'd think that person waiting to wash would ask you about how much longer you were going to be washing and then take his/her wash and go back to the apartment until the time you stated.

Bis, and she didn't move a muscle. Sat there on the only chair, with her walker and laundry basket taking up space. Being friendly as a new puppy.
My grocery delivery came in early for a change, so I got that put away.
I am very weary for some reason, so happy I do not have to be involved in anything more today. I think a nap has my name on it. See y'all later.

Hello Everyfriend!  Kiran and I had a busy day.  I went to their house so my son could get to work by 9 and she was still sleeping.  So I took advantage of that and fell asleep on their sofa.  When I woke up, it was about 10:30 and I waited until about 11:15 and then I went up and woke her.  She must have had enough sleep because she woke up in a very happy mood and that set the day!  We shopped for Toys For Tots...one for a girl and one for a boy.  She picked out a Barbie and a set of Matchbox cars.  I thought they were good choices.  Then we picked up a few things I needed and we check out, stopped at McDonalds for lunch and then went home.

There was a car parked at the end of the street and Kiran hoppe out, looked around the corner of the house and turned and said to me, Uncle Craig is raking leaves.  He'd been there since shortly after I left in the morning and he finished raking and bagging the leaves inside the fence!  I'm still amazed.  He spent his day off helping me!  He had 11 large bags of leaves when he left.  My son will come on Wednesday and take them away.  What a relief!

And the best news...SHIRLEY, thanks to you for the method and to the Man Upstairs for His hand in it, Cathy's back was normal when she got up this morning.  We were set for another treatment after her work day if necessary but she said it isn't!  ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL!

All in all, a terrific day!

Janie, I rejoice with you ! A wonderful day from beginning to end.

I had a pretty much nothing day. Had lunch after putting away my groceries, then lay down to read and slept the afternoon away...again... woke up not sure where I was. That was five o'clock. Now it is going on seven o'clock and I am ready for more bed. So I will go to bed. Nothing like obeying the body.

May you all have a very peaceful night and a happy tomorrow. I love you. God's best Blessings be with with you. June

CHUCKLES

Forester

My husband, a forester, often has to consult property owners to determine boundary lines. Walking up a dirt road to question one such individual, he encountered signs that read: "No Trespassing," "Beware of Dog," and "Keep Out...This Means You!" Finally arriving at the door, he talked with the congenial, cooperative landowner.

When my husband was ready to leave, the man said to him, "Come and see me .again sometime. I don't get many visitors up this way."

Food For Thought

Jesus, the Liberator

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Luke 4:14-22

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.
Luke 4:18
Ann, a dear supporter of our ministry, worked as a nurse in a mental health hospital in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands during World War II. She shared with me that as the war drew to an end, their hospital had to be evacuated to save the patients from extermination. In very dangerous conditions they finally escaped to safety.
Ann, who now lives in Canada, told me that recently she saw a WWII veteran in a wheelchair. She approached him and said, “Thank you so much for your sacrifice! If not for men like you, we wouldn’t be free.”
The Bible presents Jesus as our Liberator. Did you know that the name Jesus means “Savior, Deliverer”?
In our verses for today, Jesus quotes from Isaiah 61, which looks back to the Year of Jubilee (which called for slaves to be freed and debts to be canceled in every 50th year). Jubilee pointed ahead to the Messiah, Christ, the Savior. And then, to the surprise of his audience, Jesus applies those words to himself!
He came into this world to rescue us from the tyranny of sin. His teaching is the proclamation of our Year of Jubilee.
Do you appreciate what Jesus has done to free you from sin and death? Are you truly thankful to your divine Liberator? Do you want to be free? If so, put your trust in him!
Father, thank you for sending Jesus to deliver us from the slavery and curse of sin. We praise you for the freedom we have in your Son, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's 43º and raining here.  It started sometime during the night and is supposed to continue for most of the day.  Thank goodness those leaves are gone and not out there getting soaked and heavy.

I gave my big report on our good day yesterday and I don't care if no one comments but I hope Everyfriend reads it because we had a lovely day yesterday.  Today, I'll be off to WM to greet my public.  Depending on how I feel, I might make some more pb cups and then tonight, my friend will pick me up for the next to last in our series on "Faith and Fear".  This one is presented by the Rabbi at a local synagogue.  I'm looking forward to it.

I hope you all have a wonderful day filled with whatever pleases you most!  Make it a good one!

Good morning everyone..

Looks as though we had rain over night...didn't take away the snow  though. Today is chase those darn dust bunnies and wash floors. Finally got all my blocks done for the triple Irish Chain so can start and sew them altogether.

We are also going to go and get a couple of pails of sand to have on hand for icy conditions that we may get over winter. I am trying to have a lot of the little but important job done before Dec 16 when hubby goes for chemo. Pantry is well stocked as it always is.

Lloyd, I too would love to do Janie's pb cups. Hope she can share the recipe with us.
Jane , sounds like a fun and productive day you two had....plus making memories for Kiran!!
Joan, thank you for breakfast, the raspberry DD is in my hand now.

Good morning everyone, looks like we will have a couple of rainy days here. Has not started yet.

LARRY  I have the habit that when I come in my door I lock it, feels like I do it automatically now. There was a time many years ago we hardly ever locked doors but that was when people were more honest.

JOAN  my DIL usually has ham for Christmas but one year she had a crown roast of pork. She made the dressing and had it in the center of the roast. Delicious. The first year my grandson had his house my DIL had to work Christmas day so he invited the family to his home. He did a wonderful job and was the perfect host. As always everyone brought something but he did a turkey and it was perfect. He and his wife have had family for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and they had way too much food but everything was great.

JUNE  we have a larger laundry room than you there but there are a few who wait till they have enough for the 4 washers and will use all of them and the dryers so no one else can get theirs done.  They get told my management they cannot tie them up like that but they continue to do it.

JANE  looks like you and Kiran had a great time. How wonderful that you do not have to rake those leaves. Now that was very thoughtful of Craig to do. Shows that you are loved.

LLOYD  good morning.

JOAN  never had  DD breakfast sandwich, bet they are as good as the DD's I love. Oh wow no wonder that man did not have many visitors with those signs. Good one.  Thank you for all today's goodies.

JACKIE  I am in need of a haircut again, my CNA will bring her friend here again on the next Saturday she does not have to work. She did a much better job than the lady who comes here. That one is done in less than 10 minutes but does not listen to what I want and just cuts her way.

JANE  I was happy for you when I read your post from last night.  Hope your day at WM is filled with happy customers. Do you have that slotted spoon to use for dipping into the chocolate or use a fork? I had one of those spoons and it was much better than using a fork.  I remember making the PB balls and dipping them.

AMY  dust bunnies will always be around no matter how we chase them away.

Good morning, Janie.  I thought I commented on your day of making memories yesterday and Craig raking your leaves.  Must have just been thinking it.  We need rain desperately.  When I went out to get the paper it smelled like a fire was nearby.

Amy--Good morning.   I pray your husband goes through chemo with no problems and that after it's done he is cancer free.

Good morning, Gloria.  It seems everyone has rain but us.  Those crown pork roast are delicious, but have you seen the sky high price?  The DD breakfast sandwiches are really good--I've had them a few times.

Cold here this morning and we didnt have the heat on during the night so got up and put the heater on and then the coffee. Brrrrrrr.

Hope everyone has a great day.  Janie, I know you are happy the leaves are in their bag.  will you have more to come down?

Joane, we need rain here too.  So if you see any, please share.  It seems everyone wants to keep theirs.

I need coffee, anyone else.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and soon to be rainy,
rocky coast of Maine.

Today it the big day for me.    My son
Paul is coming over to go with me
to "cut the cord" on Cable TV.

Yikes.  I have already unplugged my
cable "stuff"  and will go and face
the cable company to have them
"down grade" me to "internet only" ...

I am tickled to have my son Paul
go with me and come back with me
to make sure that the internet connection functions appropriately.   Because
without that,  I have nothing.
(Except my smart phone)...

Hi everyone.  We are starting this day with a few very short showers and have the prospects for more rain during the next couple of days.  It was 68 degrees when I got up this morning and predicted to reach 75 degrees this afternoon.

The main activity for today is to attend the Adult Fellowship Luncheon and Program at the church.  As I mentioned yesterday today is a special musical program.  I love music so  have really been looking forward to this program.  Either before or after I will go to the place where Pat and I get our CPAP supplies to get her a couple of nose pillows for her head gear.  I also want to stop by Office Deport as yesterday I stopped at another Office Depot to get a notebook that Pat needed for a cookbooks she had me print out.  The price was $5.99 but when it range up it had been discounted down to $1.  I asked the clerk if that was right and she said it was as many items had been greatly discounted.  If they are still at this price I will get several as need to replace some that I am using that are pretty worn out.

Joan, with a smart phone it uses the camera to take a picture of each side of the check.  You designate the account and enter the amount of the check in a separate box.  As you think about it that is basically what the teller and bank do when you deposit in person as they find your account, enter the amount and see that your have endorsed the check and then as it is further processed by the clearing house it is photographed.  If the check was over $500 there would be a two day hold on the funds and the maximum amount of a check deposited this way was limited to $1500.  It sure saves a trip to the bank.

Don, glad to see your program will continue while you are gone and now you can sit back and enjoy that man on the radio on Sundays who play all that beautiful music and provides the interesting background information on the pieces.

Jane, how nice that you had a good day with Kiran and continued to teach her about the joy of giving to those less fortunate.  How wonderful that Craig did the leaves for you.  That was another lesson in giving and receiving for Kiran.  Nice to read that Cathy's back has returned to its normal condition.

June, sure hope you are feeling more rested today.

Gloria, is sounds like you have some residents who don't believe the rules apply to them with regard to the washers and dryers.

Sandy, hope you have a positive experience with the cable company and they don't do anything to mess up your Internet.

Jane,  I want to let you know that I read your message and I am so envious that you have such a sweet granddaughter to have fun with. The little ones in my life now are great-grands who all live out of state, so I don't  get to see them much. I would love to be able to do something fun with them.  So happy you shared your day with us.

I am writing this on my new Kindle.   Have to get used to all the bells and whistles that is on this one.   Lot of different things from my first one.

Good morning Joan and all the morning friends.  The DD breakfast is delicious.

Have a great day.

Good morning, Sandy.  Nice that Paul is willing to go with you to "cut the cord".  Good luck.

Larry--Good morning.  Thanks for explaining how check deposits works electronically.  It sure sound like it'd work well for me.  Enjoy the Fellowship Luncheon and the musical program.

Good morning, Joy.  You seem to be doing great with your new Kindle.  I don't have any great grands, but all of my grandchildren live out of state and I regret that I seldom see them.

Janie, I surely enjoyed reading of the good day you had with Kiran and the extra little nap both she and you had...a great day to start the day.

Gloria, there are still a lot of rude people floating around the place, so we just have to try and keep our temper in check, and hope that they learn to be nice before they die. I did another load of laundry today, and had no problem at all.  I have never done more that one load at a time. Of course our linens are all done by Rowntree, so it is only personal thing we do ourselves. And even there, we can pay to have it laundered, ironed, hung on hangers and delivered to our door. I want to keep doing as much as I can myself.

I had a bad night with my leg, so went down this morning as it had bled a bit even though scabbed over. They are ordering a Dobbler scan to see if the circulation is getting worse as I had quite a bit of pain during the night. I'm hoping the company will find time to do it here rather than have to travel outside the grounds.

Other than balance and mobility at 2:30 I have a free day, and that is nice. Gary and Dori are coming over for lunch with me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to that, for sure.

Time to go down for lunch now. will talk attcha later. June

June--Sorry that leg caused you so much pain during the night.  Hopefully they can do the Doppler on premises, but if not you must go where they do them.  How nice that Gary and Dori are coming for lunch tomorrow.

Good Afternoon,

'Tis a lovely sunny day in central Oklahoma.

My dil who has retired from teaching had a dermatology appointment in this area that required a treatment this morning and another one this afternoon - so she spent the "in between time" with me.

I had ingredients on hand for a chicken/spinach casserole (using a Stouffer's spinach soufflé) and a "cobbler cake" using spice cake mix and apple pie filling.  Also had a recipe and ingredients for the cheese biscuits served at Red Lobster - so I got a bag of Caesar salad mix and we had a fine luncheon.

We've always been able to visit about anything (and anybody) - and did so today.
The best part was an invitation for having the family Christmas at their house (home of The Grands).  Plan A is for them to pick me up on the way home from the other grandmother's on Christmas Eve - and bring me home the day after Christmas.  Other son/dil will be invited to join us on Christmas Day.
I am beyond thrilled and delighted!!!!!!!

Yesterday,  I began trying to figure out how to make a data base of addresses for Christmas cards that can be printed on a sheet of address labels.  Making the data base was easy - but I wasn't able to get things set up to print a different thing on each label.
Off to see if I can solve that issue.....

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere has had/is having an Enjoyable Day.

I went to Cable Office and everything went well....

Too well...

Because when I came home,  I decided to make a small change.     (Big Mistake) because someone I talked to cancelled everything that I had accomplished,  earlier.

Tomorrow I will go back again...

Callie--How nice you could spend time with your DIL and what a lovely lunch you put together.  And now your plans for Christmas are settled, too.
I used to print those sheets of labels with different addresses on each label--but it's been so long that I forgot how I did it.

Sandy--Sorry you messed up with "cutting the cable".

As the saying goes, I've been "busier than a one-armed paper hanger"! We arrived home from our trip to Aruba on Friday night. The trip home was truly a "trip"! Leaving the airport in Aruba is a chore.........Along with getting boarding passes (Can't print them ahead of time there), you need to go through customs for both Aruba and the U.S. and two security lines, scan your passport and boarding pass and the machine snaps your photo. You check your luggage on the way in and then have to pick it up at a designated spot, take it to another place where you put it on a conveyor belt. Finally get to the other side of security where you have time for some lunch.  We were warned all this would take time so arrived at the airport early. After waiting another hour and a half we finally boarded the plane. Finding our Villages Taxi for pick-up at the Orlando airport and the ride home was another story.  :(  Got home around 10 p.m.

The next day our granddaughter, her husband and two boys arrived to spend the week.  Love them to pieces but wish they had picked another time.

Our dishwasher stopped working so we've been washing dishes for six by hand. My granddaughter is a big help with that. Yesterday we ordered one but won't have it till Dec. 17th.

Are you tired yet? I AM!  :)

Aruba is beautiful and we did have a very nice time! Wish we had a few more days there.

The nights have been cool since we got home but tonight it's lovely out.......71 at 8:20 p.m.

Well, I pulled my usual again...came home from lunch and slept half the afternoon away. Then since I had put in a call about more heat in the Apt.,(early morning is coooold out there baby !) so I had to stay in for the house call for that. Which I had done. I found that my Air conditioning box, is also used for heating ! plus the original style of heat that works from a furnace..probably not too reliable, hence the new A/C boxes. I missed my balance and mobility class too..darn !! Oh, I did finally get med monthly meds worked out so I should be getting the new prescriptions taken care of now.

Bis, I too hope I can get the Doppler test done here. I have had it done before, and there is nothing to it really, I guess it is getting a quick appointment would be the hang-up. And if I have to go out I will. We have a fellow that works for Rowntree that provides transportation, for a fee, of course. I have used him once before...very pleasant and helpful.

I'm going to have supper at home. Some chicken rice soup, Macaroni salad with some pieces of cheddar cheese added..maybe a slice of toasted sour dough bread, and some tapioca pudding for dessert. After the kitchen is cleaned up I will be into a flannel night gown and ready for bed.

Tomorrow is the clinic for leg check, ten a.m. Bible study, then lunch with Gary and Dori, and lots of Thankful praying for God's many Blessings. Life is Good !!!

Beverly...welcome home !!! Wow...a busy week after a trip away.....you  did well girl to get finished with that.

Food For Thought

The Trouble with the "50/50 Plan"
(by Dennis and Barbara Rainey)

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

When two people get married, they have expectations of how the relationship should work. Often, the unspoken assumption is that "My spouse will meet me halfway." Sometimes it's called "The 50/50 Plan." When the husband and wife operate on this pattern, it's easy for it to spread to other members of the family.

The "50/50 Plan" says, "You do your part, and I'll do mine." This concept sounds logical, but families who use it are destined for disappointment.

Among the problems with "The 50/50 Plan" is that giving is based on merit and performance. We focus more on what the other person is giving than on what we are doing. Love is withheld until the other person meets our expectations. Since this way of measuring out our love is subjective, the motivation for our actions is based merely on how we feel.

It's impossible to ever know if a person has ever met you halfway. As Thomas Fuller said, "Each horse thinks his pack is heaviest."

Early in our marriage we tried this plan. I would give affection to Barbara only when I felt she had earned it by keeping the house running smoothly. Barbara would show me affection and praise only when I would hold up my end by getting home on time, keeping the house in a reasonable state of repair, or working in her garden.

Contrast this with the type of love God shows for us. You might say that, no matter what we do, He gives us 100 percent. As Romans 5:8 shows, He gives us love even when we don't deserve it.

I propose that couples adopt "The 100/100 Plan" in marriage. Under this plan, each person gives 100 percent no matter what the other person does.

Prayer: That God's spirit of unmerited giving will permeate the heart of each member of your family.

Thought of the Day

God wants full custody, not just weekend visits.

Weather dogs told me is is misting rain out there this morning....much better than snow as long as it doesn't freeze  I don't like spinning around like a button on an outhouse door when I walk on ice! We did get our pails of sand yesterday and a jug of ice melt for the walk way.

We are heading to the city to finish up the last of the Christmas shopping, I need to get this done and wrapped.

My quilts came back from the long arm and she did an awesome job of quilting them for me..now to get the binding on them. One is for hubby for Christmas ,going to have to get that one done without him seeing me!!

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning, Joan and all the other early morning friends.

Joan, biscuits and gravy will taste good on this foggy, misty morning in Central Maryland.  Supposed to turn into a good rain for us, which we need.  Wish I could send you some !

Happy Birthday to June and Jenny.  I hope both of you have a wonderful day,

I am still having fun with my Kindle.  Learning new things.  Still hard to believe that all my saved books and pictures just automatically transferred over to the new one,.  I also had a message this morning, where Alexa is set up, which gives me access to "somebody" who I can ask a question and a voice will answer me.  Haven't fooled around with that yet.

Nothing special going on in my neck of the woods today. Just some normal everyday chores.  Joan, not really work. LOL  I had to move some things out of the way for the TV man yesterday, so that all has to be straightened up and put back where it was.  And, I probably will run the little duster around a bit.

Hope everyone will have a great day.

Good morning everyone, more rain for today but now it is foggy. Had over an inch of rain yesterday and last night it got windy.

JOAN  last time I went to a DD it was before they had the breakfast sandwiches. Just do not get around much anymore.

HAL  so many places need rain this year. Even here it was a dry summer and last winter we did not have much snow either.
I would gladly send this rain to the dry areas and those with fires. Then the farmers here would be angry with me because they need it too.

LARRY  so far my #2 son has been doing my banking. He is on my account so it works good.  I have an iPhone but really have not used it for much of anything yet. I really should get more use of it and then I would drop my landline. I think in a group of people there are always  some who do not follow the rules.

JOY  have a good time with your new Kindle. I will get to see my youngest great grandson at Christmas. He is about 18 months old now.

JUNE  today is laundry day for my CNA and I will have 2 loads. Wednesday is a slow day in the laundry room so she should have no problems. If she can only use one washer the dark clothes can be done on Friday. We have a card for the washers/ dryers. There is a machine we put the card in and then a bill in to add time to the card. Hope they can check your leg there so you do not have to go somewhere else. I have several appointments coming up and I am not happy about going to them.

CALLIE  it has been years since I had Christmas with both my sons. They have their own families they like to spend the day with.

SANDY  hope you get things fixed today.

BEVERLY  they sure do not make it easy traveling out of the country anymore. My oldest son and DIL go on a cruise every winter and head to the Caribbean but since their base is the ship till they get back to Florida I never heard them say anything about customs.

JOAN  I will skip your breakfast this morning. This Yankee has never had a taste for biscuits and sausage gravy. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  hope any snow you get does not turn to ice, especially black ice.

LLOYD  as long as it snows where needed, like up in the mountains and not where we live, it will be fine.

Hi everyone on another overcast morning.  We did have some nice rain yesterday afternoon and evening and more is predicted for this evening.  I did really enjoy our adult luncheon at church.  The program was outstanding and was highlighted by several piano duets by our very talented choir director/organist/pianist and her sister.  The choir members present also sang several Christmas type selections as well as a piece from "The Sound of Music".  We topped all of that off with a good meal of a pasta dish, salad, bread and dessert.  I did go to Office Depot but struck out as the price had actually gone up than it was originally before the sale price.  Also there machine to put spiral bindings on things was out of order.  So I came home and had a nice nap and quiet afternoon.

I plan on being home all day today until time to go to the church this evening for our Wednesday night dinner.  I am hopeful that Scott will come out in advance and we can go together so he can do the driving.

Joy, we have the same situation with our four great grandchildren who live in upstate New York.  It is not likely we will ever see them again in person and have never seen the youngest in person.  Fortunately we do get pictures and information on what they are doing from their father, which we really appreciate, as we can see them as they are constantly growing.  Glad to see you got your Kindle.  Go through the settings and you will likely find the way to fix it to be the way you want it to be.

June, sure hope you had a better night last night.  Enjoy your luncheon with Gary and Dori today.

Callie, years ago I just created my Christmas list as mailing labels and printed them out as label.  I would go through it each year to make any changes needed.  I haven't sent card through the mail now for several years but have resorted to a short Christmas message via email.

Sandy, hope you get things straightened out today with the cable company.  We are all human so don't beat yourself up over a small matter.

Happy Birthday to both June and Jenny.  I hope both of you have special days surrounded by at least some of your loved ones.

Amy, having lived on a farm and in a community that had to rely on outhouses I could relate to your comments about the pinning button on an outhouse door as did experience that on occasion.  I bet your husband will make good use of that quilt.  My wife made me one years ago as well as quilts for other family members and a couple of good friends.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I typed a quick message before I went to get dressed and I must have hit the wrong button because it's no where to be seen.  However...

Lloyd, thank you for the reminder about the recipe.  I did forget but I'll try to get it to you today sometime after I get home from work.  There was someone else who expressed an interest in having it but I've forgotten who it was.  Maybe I'll just post it over in the "What's For Dinner" folder and let you know it's there.  Would that work?

I'm off to work at 10 today.  I don't really like the 10 to 2 shift because it makes meals at odd times.  I think I'm going to take a sandwich with me today.

Have a good day, Everyfriend!

Good Morning Everyone!

Important stuff first.......

Happy Birthday June and Jenny.  I hope you get everything you wanted and it is truly a special day for both of you.

It is a sunshinny day here, a bit nippy but will warm up and weather guessers tell us we are in for BIG changes this coming Friday.  A big low is headed in from the Pacific that is going to bring rain.  But we have heard this before just to be disappointed.

Joanie, had to disagree with your chuckles, a bible would have been a better choice, it also has plans in it on how to build an excellent boat....

Got to get busy and balance my checkbook.

Gloria,  where I live we have the same type of card for the washers and dryers.   And, a machine down on the 3rd floor laundry room where we can add money to the card,,  just like you mentioned.

There is a laundry room on each floor and mine apartment is right across the hall from it.  So, I don't have to sit there and wait.  I always take my kitchen timer with me and set the time for the washer to be done.  And, I can come back to my apartment.  I usually find if I go later in the day, I will have the laundry room all to my self.  Most everyone does theirs in the morning.  There are 2 washers,,,,a top loader and a front loader.  I always thought the front loaders didn't hold as much as the top loader ones, but I have found that I can get a good bit in it.  I usually just use the top loader and wash a load of lighter weight things first and when they are done I will do the heavier things.  The washer runs for 30 min. and the dryer runs for 60 min.  I have found that the first load of lightwear clothes dry in about 30 min, which I take out and put the second load of the heavier things in.  If I insert the card again, I can add extra minutes for 25 Cents for 10 min. I will add either 10 or 20 min. more and that will finish drying the second load.  So, I can get 2 loads of wash done with one dryer load, with the extra minutes.  This works well for me.  I have not had any problems with the second load not getting dry.  These machines are heavy duty ones  and I think they dry better than your normal household ones. One of the older residents was the one who told me about being able to add the extra money for extra time.  Before we got the card, we could just add an extra quarter for the extra time we wanted.  It sure is nice with the card, as we don't have to worry about having enough quarters.  It costs $1.25 each for the washer and dryer.  So for about $4.00 - $4.25 I can get my laundry done every few weeks.  I don't wash every week.  One of the residents told me that she had a lot of underwear and when she was running out, she knew it was time to do the laundry. LOL  So, I kind of follow the same idea.

Probably nobody else is interested in how we do our laundry, but this was a little FYI to you.

Good Morning,

June  :hb3:  Jenny

Larry,  you have the most interesting events at your church.  At mine, the activities for the "older bunch" have been replaced with ones for the younger group.  I wish those had been "added to" instead.

I got the labels made and even managed to put a cardinal on each one that almost matches the one on my cards.  However, when I printed out a sample to try on one envelope, I didn't like the way it looked.
May have to do some revising.
I send e-cards to friends with whom I keep in touch - but still mail ones to friends I only correspond with at Christmas because I like to include more family news than can be put on an e-card.

Gloria,  the 8 members of my immediate family have always spent part of the afternoon/evening of Christmas Day together but it's always been at my house.  I don't mind doing things ahead of time but  was kinda dreading the "day of..." preparations this year because of the "squeaks and creaks" I've developed.   So I was delighted when son/dil suggested we come to their house.
I'm rethinking the late Christmas Eve pick-up, though.  I think it would be better for me to go with #2 son/dil on Christmas Day.   Love that #1 son thinks I'm still spry enough to do late-night sleep-overs but it's time he rethinks that sort of thing.

Hal, we're supposed to have A Big Front moving in Friday night.  The Bedlam Bash (OU vs. OKState) is at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Hope it isn't like the year the weather was so bad that the stadium seats were covered with ice.  That's still referred to as "The Ice Bowl".

Gee. thanks for reminding me that, in addition to all the fun Christmas stuff, it's time for checkbooks and bills and such.  <sigh>

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

THANK YOU !!!!

Lest I miss someones wonderful Birthday Greetings, may I just give Thanks to all my dear good friends here in our Soda Shoppe for your kind and lovely Greetings. They are so very appreciated. I am so thankful for being a part of this family.

Larry, I had a very bad night. I forgot to take my night time meds. That is a first for me. I guess my 92 years are proving that we do lose somethings as we age…like memory.

Hal, every day is a special day, isn't it ? This one will be especially special as Dori and Gary are coming to have lunch with me. And with the schedules they have, this is a gift in itself.

I had my daily visit to the clinic for a leg check, and more medications on order. Next is the 10 o'clock Bible study, followed by a trek back to my apartment to await Gary and Dori. I know what will happen this afternoon…more naps.

For all of my cohorts that have to use a communal laundry…it can be a big nuisance, but it can bring back memories of our own machines, always available, and clotheslines to hang out our belongings. Remember hiding the underwear in between the sheets and outer clothes ? Now people wear less in bathing suits that we did in underwear, and they do it in public. Oh, well, my Grandmother would be shocked by the length of our dresses now.

Have a great day everyone, I intend to do the same. Big Hugs…June

halkel--If you do like I do you don't have to worry about the checkbook balancing.  I just plain eliminated that task.

Joy--I do like having my own washer and dryer, but realize that's seldom an option in an apartment complex.

Callie--Sorry your labels are causing you some dismay.  IMO, you should decide where and when you come and go for Christmas.

June--You'd better devise a method to make sure you take your medications.  Enjoy Gary and Dori's visit to make your birthday special.

Oh Joan,  not having my own washer and dryer is probably the thing I miss the most from when I lived in my condo.  The second most missed thing is my balcony.  It sat back into  the building instead of jutting out. I could go out there and sit with my coffee in the morning and nobody could see me.  There is an area out front where there is a sitting area, but that means I have to get dressed, get on the elevator to get out there.   There are some other things I miss. I  have been here 9 years now, and that is so hard to believe.  It sure isn't the same as having your own place. I really loved my condo and  the people who lived there. All in the past, now.

Callie, I did want to mention something about making the individual address labels.  It seems to me that there was directions included with the package of Avery labels that told you how to do that.  I know I made some with individual names and addresses. But, like Joan, I have forgotten how to do it,

Joy--I would truly miss having a washer and dryer.  A few months ago, just out of curiosity, I looked at an Independent Living complex.  There was only a community laundry facility.  I inquired about having one in an apartment and was told that just to reconfigure the place for a washer/dryer would cost me $5,000.   Then you must provide your own machines to fill the space.  The rent there was $5,000 a month--so I quickly knew I couldn't afford that place.

Joy,   I did find Avery directions as well as Microsoft Word.  When I did it the first time, I used the wrong format.
This one is okay;  I just don't like the placement on the labels.  That won't require any re-typing and won't take long.
I  already have a Christmas return address label document from previous years and enough pages to print out both.
Before printing, I always print a test page on plain paper and then hold it up to the light behind the label page to see if they fit. Then I print just the first page to double check.
Actually,  I enjoy doing this sort of thing so it isn't a "chore" for me.

Joan,  I've never been fussy about sharing Christmas with the in-laws and, of course, dil who is hostess this year was a busy Middle School teacher until she retired last May.  She was excited when son mentioned it to her. Bit of drama going on in the other dil's family right now - but I suspect we will begin a rotation between the two homes.  I'll enjoy contributing things I can do ahead of time.
All is well.

I recently discovered the nicest feature on the LG dryer I got earlier in the year.  It's called "Freshen" and spins items on your choice of heat for about 20 minutes (kinda feels like it begins with slightly moist air - but I'm not sure about that) to take out wrinkles and.....well, "freshen up" the item.
I've just put all of the Christmas tablecloths and towels through the cycle and won't have to iron a thing.

Now it's "recliner radish" time.  CUL8R

Linedancer--You sure are a very busy lady.  So man are writing that they have rain, and we have had nary a drop in weeks.  By the weekend you are going to be ready for some rest.

Callie--I used to enjoy doing special labels, but haven't done that in years.  Glad all is well with your family and Christmas plans.

I want to thank you ALL for the wonderful and so appreciated Birthday wishes.  I have been on the telephone all morning with some wonderful calls.  None of us particularly care for the fact that we are getting OLD, but it sure is nice to be remembered!  BTW, I know most of you are much older, but it rather frightens me to be headed into the last year of my '60's!

I must get ready now to head out to lunch.....

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIENDS.

Got back from my trip to MO about 2:30 this afternoon.... got to visit with my brother & wife & my sister & her husband.... probably last time to visit (except on phone) until spring.  My brother & wife go to FL first week of Jan and don't return until April.  Brother is having more tests run, they aren't sure what is causing his problems. I'd like to slap my sister silly..... she is 4-5 years older than I am and hardly any wrinkles.  She took after our Mother's side & I got Dad's wrinkles.  I'd like to think I got his brains but that's not the truth.  :crazy2:

Was super windy on the way home, steering wheel was set an an angle to keep on the highway.  Cats did fine on the way home but Tom got sick all the way between Kansas City & my little home town about 100 miles east, not nice at all.  They were pretty good at night, slept like babies. My kind of weather, cold!

Happy (belated) Birthday to our June & Jenny.... hope it was a wonderful day for each of you!

Mycheal, what a lovely Birthday greeting came from you. I thank you my friend. I feel quite honored. It was one of the nicest days of my life, with my family and friends present at lunch. Gary and Dori, and Dan and Nancy combined funds and gifted me with a  Huge bouquet of flowers. I haven't counted the variety yet, but there are many, and each one more beautiful than the last. It is so big I can turn the vase four times a day and get a different array. All in a lovely med. purple vase that will look beautiful in my East windows with the sun shining through.

As it has become a habit, it seems, after we ate and visited and said our good byes, I came home to plop down in the recliner, and sure enough, I slept the whole afternoon away. Can't get away with that tomorrow though as we have Choir practice at 1:30 then balance and mobility following.

And for me a New Year is beginning. I am hoping that God may give me a 93rd. number. Three has always been my favorite number for some reason, so it will be very interesting, day by day, to see what lies in the days and weeks and months ahead. Life is Good, and I love sharing it with all of you. Now sleep in Peace, wake with JOY in your hearts, and rejoice that our Good God is taking care of each and every one of us. I Love you.

Food For Thought

Living Out Our Faith

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
Ephesians 2:10
Oxana, one of our listeners from Ukraine, confided to us about her struggles with boredom and lack of motivation in her daily walk with God. This young woman firmly professed her trust in Jesus Christ, but somehow she wasn’t excited about her faith. “I know that I’m already saved. What do I do next?” she asked us bluntly.
In our response we directed her to Ephesians 2:10, which describes believers as “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” In this context “handiwork” can also be translated as “work of art.” We are unique and special ¬creations in God’s eyes.
Please note that doing good works does not earn us our salvation. We are saved totally by God’s grace. Rather, doing good is an exciting way to live out our faith and express our gratitude to God for his gift of grace and deliverance.
We challenged Oxana: “What can you do as God’s handiwork to show how thankful you are to the Lord for his salvation?” Later we learned that she got involved with work in a local orphanage.
The same challenge goes to you today. What good works do you see prepared for you by God? Maybe you can volunteer at your local church or food pantry. Maybe you can help an elderly neighbor. There are many people out there who are hungry for God’s love and our care.
Father, we praise you for making us your precious handiwork! Show us how to live out our faith by our actions as well as our words. Amen!

Thought of the Day

"How divinely full of glory and pleasure shall that hour be when all the millions of mankind that have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb shall meet together and stand around him with every tongue and every heart full of joy and praise. How astonishing will be the glory and the joy of that day when all the saints shall join together in one common song of gratitude and of love and of everlasting thankfulness to the Redeemer! With what unknown delight and inexpressible satisfaction shall all that are saved from the ruins of sin and hell address the Lamb that was slain and rejoice in his presence."

Good Morning Joanie and Everyfriend!  I'm up early because I'm going to go do what Phyllis calls "hunting and gathering".  I got my extra store-wide discount voucher for working Thanksgiving morning.  It needs to be used today or tomorrow and it covers everything in one trip through the checkouts.  So this is the day I stock my freezer and my shelves.  It might take me a while because I'm out of everything but I plan to get to the store before it gets busy.  I've been saving my money for this trip and it's going to be worth it.

The rain stopped and the temp right now is 46º and it's going to stay right around there all day.  What a way to come into December!

I hope you all have a lovely day!

Taking my van in to get new keys for it, thank goodness this is a recall and I get two new ones otherwise I would have to pay 400.00 EACH!!!

We did manage to get some shopping done, now to wrap it all. I am not making  any plans this Christmas as I don't know how the chemo will effect hubby.I think we shall lay low this year.

Janie, have fun hunting and gathering..

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Amy--Good morning.  I never had to get new keys and your telling how much they cost makes me glad I didn't.  I am praying that the chemo isn't harsh on your husband.

Good morning Joan, and all the other friends.

Joan, a really fancy breakfast this morning.  Eggs Benedict !   Wow !   Not sure if I have ever had those.  So, I will really enjoy this morning's breakfast.  Thanks for going to all that trouble to make them.  LOL

The sun is shining this morning after 2 days of mist, rain and wind.  Makes one feel so better when the sun is shining.

Yesterday, I had to put some things back that I had moved for the TV tech.  So, while I was doing that, I decided to go through all the papers and stuff and just get rid of some of it.  Still had all the information from my old computer.   Lots of wires and cables, which I don't know what they were for. So, that took a while. Then, I had so many catalogs and tied them up to put out in the recycle bin.  Plus shredded a whole bunch of old papers.

Not sure what I will get into today.  I do want to call a friend who I have not talked to for a while. Then, we will see what else I can get into.

Jane,  that is great that you can such a good reward for working on Thanksgiving morning.  Good that you can go before it gets too crowded.

Amy, I, too, am hoping that your husband's chemo treatments won't be too bad and he will tolerate them well.

Lloyd,  hope you will get the rain and not the snow.

Hope all will have a good Thursday, this first day of December.  Can hardly believe that this year is almost over.  Seems like it just flew by.

Hi everyone.  After a very gloomy day yesterday we have bright sunshine and a much cooler morning.  We expect to get only in the lower 60's this afternoon.  We did get another 1/2 inch of rain last evening.  Today is going to be a busy one as will soon leave to pick up my friend and take go to coffee, then take him home and then go back downtown to the church for the Wisdom group, which hasn't met for the last couple of weeks.  Then this evening is the special concert at the church that I want to attend.

I did get to have dinner with Scott and and he come out to the house shortly before time to go to dinner and went back with me.  He then drove home.  He had had a crown preparation at the dentist yesterday and was still numb.  He didn't stay very long last evening as it was raining hard and he was getting sleepy.

Thank you all for your postings.  I am not going to write any individual comments today as am running out of time.  However, I will be back tomorrow and make no promises about the length of my posting.  :)

Jane, I'll be doing the weekly hunting/gathering today, too.  It is a bright sunny day after a gloomy, drizzly yesterday so it will be a nice one to "get out".  The walls are getting closer and closer.  I need to see if the rest of the world still exists.

I am a "belt and suspenders" kind of person when it comes to my finances, I guess.  I not only make sure my checkbook always agrees with the bank (I check that on-line every day) but I must also make sure the bank, my checkbook, AND Quicken all agree with each other.  It nags me to distraction if they don't.  My whole world stops until I find the discrepancy.  <sigh>

I'm running late so must stop here and get some breakfast and make a grocery list.  As Callie says......CUL8R....or something like that.

Joy--Good morning.  Sounds like you got some cleaning up done yesterday.  I never make Eggs Benedict at home, but order them when I go out.

Good morning, Larry.  You're sure going to be a busy bee today.  No kitchen duty?

Phyllis--Good morning.  What will you cook after you "hunt and gather"?  Guess balancing the checkbook is another "whatever floats your boat".  I do check my balance on line periodically.

Well, I'm back from my "hunting and gathering" expedition.  I didn't get any steak, that's not in my budget EVER!  But I got chicken, a little bitty pork roast to go with the sauer kraut for New Year's Day and hamburger, hotdogs, fish and I passed on the ham.  Too big for me and too much money!  Also got some ground turkey to make turkey burgers.  Now I have to sort all that meat into usable size packages and get it in the freezer.  That's the afternoon chore.  Guess I won't get the coconut cups done today.  But this trip to the store is definitely worth it.  I not only get an extra discount, use coupons but I get a cash back on my card when I pay the bill.  I saved a bundle and I'm ready for the snows to come.

Lloyd, did you find your way to the recipe?

Larry, if you haven't been to the Wisdom class for a couple of weeks, are you getting dumber?  Or just a little less wise?

I'm going to scoot over to my daughter's house while my SIL is there to give him a TY for raking leaves.  And I have to see if the doodad I had made for my daughter for Christmas fits where it needs to go.

Enjoy your day.

Good morning everyone, soon to be noon. Should have mentioned yesterday that I was going to visit the vampire this morning. My son took me and then he took me out for breakfast. Yummy bacon and eggs and home made rye bread. He stayed and visited for a couple of hours, I enjoyed that. After 2 days of rain it is sunny and beautiful today, even have windows open a little.

JOAN  wish I had thought of the DD sandwich this morning

JOY  like you, there is one front loader and 3 top loader washers and 4 dryers. 30 minutes for washers and 60 for the dryers. Most times the clothes are dry in half an hour. Lot of wasted money there. If one put a load in with less than half an hour on it and the clothes are heavy they will have to insert the card again and it would be for a full hour. They used to be $1.50 but at the beginning of the year they went up to $1.75. Laundry in on the first floor. Only 52 apartments so pretty small as these places go.

CALLIE  for years when my 3 were young we had family over Christmas Eve. Then it was my family and some guests for Christmas dinner. Been a long time since I made a meal like that.

SHIRLEY  glad you made the trip and got home safe. Looks like your fur babies are getting used to traveling at last.

JOAN  now I could have enjoyed those Eddg Benedict earlier. Gut enjoyed the DD I had, of course another CC store that never makes the lemon ones. LOL with  the Soup.  Thank you for today's goodies.

Did not sleep much last night just knowing I had to be ready when my son came for me and now my eyes want to close. Think I will do just that, the couch is calling me.

Good Afternoon Everyone, from the warmish,  sunny rocky
coast of Maine.

Well,  I was successful yesterday
getting my self straight with the cable
company.

I successfully now have Great Internet and I kept the "local station" Starter Pack,  so
I can keep up with CBS, NBC and ABC,  shows...plus ION,  C Span and OWN...
(I am very satisfied with this)

In the past nine months I have now have
cut my cable, tv, internet  and phone bill from over $211 a month down to about $60  a month ...  mostly for internet service and taxes and cable modem cost....
I found out this morning that I can also
return the cable modem and just use my
ROKU in place of it.   (This will save another
few bucks monthly)

My total saving now for completing this
comes up to well over $1600 a year....

Which is an incredibly motivating..

I am very happy and now feel that the
months that I started to prepare for
this was worth actual task.

Phew... glad this is over.
Have a great day,  Everyone !!

Janie, I can picture you now going down the aisles and selecting the goodies for your cupboard shelves and freezer. Enjoy girl…you surely have earned it.

Amy, I too had a special key to my car, that would have cost big bucks to replace it. I'm sure glad yours is a "recall" so you don't have to spend those extra hundreds of dollars.

Joy, you surely were a busy little Bee yesterday. Doesn't it feel good to get things sorted out and discarded or filed ?Little by little, after 10 months of residency here I too have got some things taken care of the needed sorting, etc.

Larry, just knowing that you are well and keeping busy is good news, we will miss your usual longer post, but you are excused this time.   :)

Phyllis, I balance my checkbook but going on line with my bank, and accepting what they say. I like Bis' method of balancing. My son shares my checkbook…he shares my whole life for that matter…so I let him worry about "stuff", and I just plow on through my days, and be happy.

Janie, sounds like you had a very, very, profitable morning..lots of labor though, so grab a nice nap this afternoon. You have earned it. I applaud W.M. for recognizing their employees as they do. We need more like them in this world.

Gloria, I am so glad you have such a good and caring son. Is he the one you had the upstairs Apt. with ? My two sons are entirely opposite personalities, but equally kind and helpful. God has Blessed us Gloria…have a nice nap.

Sandy. I am so proud of you and how you have handled your internet "stuff". I say "stuff", as that tells you how ignorant I am of what you have done. But the $$ you have saved can give you extra fun stuff to do. Congratulations.

Hi June ...
Thank you so much for your

I hope that others might just
benefit from my journey to ridding
myself of high cable internet/tv/phone costs that all of us have been subjected to

I live just within the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Statistically, we get our colder weather from Canada and the last three years we have had a high-pressure area perched above the Interior that has kept snow and colder weather from us. NOAA and other sites show no real change for this year and while we have had some colder weather with more predicted over Christmas, it is basically not that much different or unusual.

We, in the state's Interior,  normally do not have the same weather patterns or weather points of origins that the lower 48 states have, other than the state's Southeast which is part of the same rainforest geographical climate region as Washington and Oregon. If you were to get Alaskan weather, it would come through Western Canada which is normally colder than Alaska is. So, I wonder where that link is getting it's information from?

Good Afternoon,

I also went 'hunting and gathering" this morning - then home for a quick bite of lunch before son took me to the dentist.
While having my teeth cleaned a couple of weeks ago  a big filling fell out of a back molar.
Today. I had a temporary crown put in.
I go back for the permanent one in three weeks,  the day before my birthday.
Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas, Callie!    :tissue:

Wasn't sure how well the h & g would go because, when I got to the grocery store, I discovered I'd left my list at home.  Amazingly,  I only forgot two items - and neither one of them was absolutely necessary.

I was able to get Christmas stamps at the grocery store so, as soon as I redo the mailing labels,  I'll be able to get the Christmas cards finished.
That and decorating will keep me busy if the yucky weather comes in as predicted.

Interesting link about that. Hal.
My hometown in southeastern Oklahoma has already cancelled its Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday evening because of the forecast.

We also need rain.  There have been several major grass fires around the OKC metro area over the past few days.  Fortunately, no buildings were involved.
The situation in Tennessee and North Carolina is just awful.

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere has had an Enjoyable Day.

Callie--Is the crown for your tooth your birthday/Christmas present to yourself? :) If you left your grocery list home and only forgot two items, you have a terrific memory.

Maybe Callie doesn't have such a terrific memory.  We don't know how many items were on her list.  Maybe she only had 3 items and she forgot 2 of them. :2funny:

Jane, re: Callie's list. :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

I did NOT sleep my afternoon away.  Thanks be !! I went to our Choir practice after I had a quiet lunch downstairs, then on to Balance and Mobility, which was fun. Now I am home going through gobs of mail, and still have to finish my meds assortment for the three days of boxes. I like to do three days at a time, rather that all seven...less confusing.I take eight pills a day. Three of them more than once a day, so it does require a little brain power of which I seem to be lacking more and more.

Had another delightful B. card come in the mail from our Chaplain and his wife. Very touching, and very welcome. I love living here more and more each day.

We have had a cool day, with clouds off and on, but no rain in our future.

Hal, I tried to understand the severe rain article you posted, but I felt it would take a meteorologist to understand it, so I quit. I just pray it will not cause any tragedies if it should come to pass.

Time to go finish up those medications arrangements, and try to stay awake to get myself downstairs for supper, which I rarely do, but they are having spareribs and sour kraut...one of my very favorite meals, and never having seen it posted before, I must take advantage of it.

Darn it,  Jane - how did you figure it out?   :2funny:

Actually,  I had quite a few items on my list but most of them were things I usually need and knew I was out of.
I'm surprised I didn't come home with 4 or 5 things I didn't need!!!!

Joan,  the only good thing I can think of about the dentist's bill is that I can claim it as a medical deduction on my income tax. LOL

Jane, before I forget again.... I don't trust my memory anymore... I was sure I commented about your daughter trying the Epsom salt & be it that or what.... is fixed.  I was so pleased she tried... and will remember how to cure so many problems the rest of her life.  I've used it for so many different boo-boos & never had it fail.  Thanks for believing & letting me know.

Sandy, I completely deleted the cable.... I get all 3 local stations with the "over the air" antenna.  ABC,CBS, NBC.... because it seems they are required to offer HD or digital??  I had to get a new little flat screen digital TV for the bedroom 'cause it didn't work on the old-old TVs.  I do still have internet, not the fastest but I'm okay with it... and still have the Cox phones.  I even canceled the newspaper, realized I rarely read anything but the obits & can read them online.  I was paying $220 a year & it was going up quite a bit.

I was feeling so good about saving money when I found a good looking pair of rib eye steaks at Sam's Club... I bought them last week!  Okay, about $10 each & both were near perfect.... and so much meat I fried & ate all I could of one & then cut the rest of the meat bite size & made gravy in the skillet, put the meat back in & had another 2 meals of steak & gravy.... 3 hardy meals from each $10 steak, not so expensive after all!  Sweet potatoes were on sale before Thanksgiving so one baked in the microwave is enough for 2 meals.... with lots of butter, some left over cranberry sauce & other veggies.... some salad & I'm getting hungry again~

Callie, I have not been keeping up with the weather while gone but heard we have a rain/snow mix & cold temps ahead.... finally tonight heard the messy weather will be here Friday night.  Sorry I can't get the pool shut down sooner but will just do it when son can come.  If any of the pool places would do it the way we've done for 30 years.... I have them come do it.... but they have other ideas & I know what has worked for us for 30 years & not willing to do things we tried & didn't work.  Had to let my son try what their pool people do the first couple years after Cas died.... and this past year he did what I asked & was totally amazed how well it worked.   ;D

I've got to close my eyes..... am bone tired.  Hugs & prayers for all..... Shirley

Shirley,

I would have gotten an HD Antenna,  but I live in the city,  on the 2nd Floor of a seven floor building.      And they work best
in areas that have no buildings to interfere with their signal.    Center City is way
too congested for them to work.

It is good to hear that you are making good use of yours.       And also that someone else has "cut the cord"  with cable compainies.

I have no choice with my internet but
to continue with Time Warner .

There is no other internet available to
me here in where I live.

Time Warner has merged with Charter Spectrum,  so their name has now changed to "Spectrum" ....   (he he) ...

But I have so significantly cut the cost
of cable now that I too,  should go
buy me some steak...
(Wish I had teeth! (giggle))

Have a good night,  everyone!
Sandy

Oh, I am soooooo tired. Went down for supper and who should appear but my oldest Grandson....my HUGE police man, with another Beautiful bouquet of flowers. I was overwhelmed. I haven't seen R.J. for several years now, so was just floored to look up and see this familiar face. It seems has grown pounds more and inches taller. His upper arm is like a piece of cement, and nearly as big around as my waist...well not quite that big, but BIG ! So I invited him to stay for dinner and then we came upstairs and chatted for an hour or so. What a treat. He works out of Anaheim now, so I expect to see him more often. His home is in Moreno Valley, near Hemet, but he likes the drive, so is content.

I have no commitments for tomorrow, so I plan to really relax, and let the world keep turning. Time to hit the pillow now, so have a blessed sleep tonight and a joyful tomorrow. God be with you. I love you all. June

CHUCKLES

Watch a Video

We had invited our friends William and Samantha to our home to watch a video, and William's 94-year-old mother accompanied them. During the show we noticed William nodding off. As his head dropped lower, it startled him awake. He jumped up and told his wife it was time to leave as his mother must be getting tired. Grandma tapped his hand and pointed out to him who was really tired.

She then looked at me. "Dear," she said, "the next time you invite me, I'll be sure to leave the children at home."

Food For Thought

A Childlike Amazement
(By Steve Troxel)

Matthew 18:3 "And He said: 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'"

When my daughter was four years old, we read about young Samuel. While discussing this story, my daughter showed me the excited faith God calls us to maintain. Perhaps her faith could teach us all...

As a young boy, Samuel was ministering with an old priest named Eli. One night God called to Samuel, but Samuel thought it was Eli's voice. Eli said he didn't call and told Samuel to go back to bed. After God called a few more times, Samuel realized who was calling and answered: "Speak, for Your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10). God then gave Samuel a message - but the message was all about Eli.

My daughter asked, "Why did God speak to Samuel if the message was really to Eli?" We talked about how we must be ready and willing to hear God. I said Eli may have had some problems or distractions in his life which kept him from hearing God, so God spoke His message through a child. I said little kids (like her) can often hear God better than older people (like me).

"But, I don't hear God talk to me," she said, with a little disappointment in her voice. I explained how God doesn't usually speak so we can hear Him with our ears; rather, His Spirit speaks to our heart and we hear Him as we listen to our heart. Her little eyes widened, "Like today when I was going to sit on one of the baby toys - Jesus told my heart I was too big and shouldn't do it so I listened to what He said."

I encouraged her that this is exactly how God speaks to us, we just need to learn how to listen and then obey. My daughter thought for a moment and then slowly shook her head in amazement: "Wow! That's sooooo cool!!"

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word never becomes just an interesting collection of stories. You created us, loved us, and will one day call us Home to be with You for all eternity - and Father, that's sooooo cool!! Help us to come into Your presence with a thankful and loving heart. Strengthen our faith every day and allow us to continually look on You and Your wonders with a childlike amazement.

Have a Christ Centered Day!

Good morning everyone
Drizzle again this morning, no dates with shovel or snowblower.

My vehicle now has 2 new key fobs and one ignition switch all for $ 1000.00 and I didn't have to pay!

Those Christmas gifts may get wrapped today and that is another job off my list. Managed to get some sewing in yesterday and hope to get the bindings on 2 quilts today. I love sitting and watching tv and hand sewing the binding onto the back of a quilt.

June, what a lovely surprise you had, bet you and your grandson had a lot to talk about.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Another busy day today.  I'll be at my station at WM for 4 hours of it and then I'll be home dipping chocolates for Christmas gifts.  This time of year, I have as many dates with the chocolate dipper as Amy has with the snow blower and shovel.

I'm going to put some of the chicken I bought yesterday in the crockpot for some upcoming dinners.  I guess I better get that done before the doggies begin clamoring for their dinner.

I wish you all a good day doing exactly what you enjoy.

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone has a great day.

We are starting to get some sprinkles this morning.  "They" say rain all weekend and colder temps.  Which figures, my handyman was suppose to be here this morning to work on my backyard gate.  But guess the Good Lord knows best and my gate can wait while we get some much needed moisture.

Coffee is ready for those that want a cup.  And Lloyd you can dunk if you like or saucer and blow your coffee if you like.  If you don't know what that is, well, you ain't from my neck of the woods.  Folks don't do that much anymore, could be cause they don't serve coffee in cups and with a saucer.

Good morning, halkel.  Never heard "saucer and blow".  Does it pertain to pouring your coffee in the saucer, blowing it cool and pouring back in the cup?  No rain forecast here, but it sure has gotten colder.

Good morning everyone, I sure made up my sleep last night. Was asleep by 8 I think.

JOAN  setting my alarm I was afraid I would sleep through it. I have before. Then it might wake my neighbor up, too. Her bedroom and mine are on other sides of the wall and the walls are not soundproof. Almost had nap yesterday but the darn phone kept ringing. Let the machine pick it up but still kept me awake.

SANDY  I have been thinking a lot lately about cutting cable. I so not watch much TV and dislike paying for channels I never watch.

JUNE  the son who took me yesterday is the one who lives 3 miles from me and is newly retired. The son where I lived before comes here every week end and is a big help.  My sons are quite different, too, but both are caring.

HAL  ice age returning? My SIL now living in Arizona is getting used to the colder temperatures already. It has been colder than than here in RI. It has been unusually warm here so far this season.

PATRICIA  I often wonder how the forecasters get their information. Even here in this smallest state the weather/temperature can vary a lot from where I am to where they get the “official” reading from.

CALLIE  not the way to celebrate your birthday and Christmas.  Many times I forgot my grocery list at home and ended up buying things not on it instead.

SHIRLEY  I have not bought a steak in a long time. Yours sounded so good my taste buds were hollering for some.

JUNE  what a wonderful surprise to see you grandson.

JOAN  an apple fritter will be so good this morning. Like Chuckles.  He was bored and blamed it on Grandma. Food for Thought is a good one. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  glad you enjoyed the cookies and tea.

AMY  sun is shining here and still warmer than usual for this time of year.

JANE  have a good day at WM.

HAL  I remember seeing a sister do that saucer and blow and then drink it from the saucer. I had to ask her what she was doing. Never saw that before and I was only a kid then.

Good morning, Gloria.  You're very thoughtful not setting your alarm for fear it will wake your neighbor.  My neighbor across the street was here yesterday, and we were talking about how our cable bills keep going up.  I pay about $160/mo. for mine.

When I was a kid the old folks, men, would do it often, rush in to get a cup of coffee before heading out to the fields and wanted a quick cup of coffee, it wasn't something you did except around family, although I do remember some folks would do it at a lunch counter in cafes.  That was when you could get a cup of coffee (with refills) for a nickle and a slice of pie for a dime.  Of course a good wage in those days was about 10-12 dollars a week.  If I remember correctly I think the first real steady job I had paid me 37.50 a week, worked six days a week for that at a department store.

Hi everyone.  This is one of the coolest mornings we have had all winter as it got down to 37 this morning and will only hit 60 late this afternoon.  After a busy day yesterday today should be much less busy.  The housekeeper will be here later this morning and Pat and I plan to eat out at noon or mid-afternoon.  Pat told me yesterday she wanted to get out of the house today as has been in all week.

The concert last evening was wonderful.  I was able to video most of it with my iPhone so Pat can see it.  There was a large crowd and they had to put out more chairs.  The concert was about 2 hours long with a 10 minute intermission.  I did go pretty early and got both a good place to park and a good seat on the aisle in the second row but there wasn't a chair in front of me in the first row so I had no problem doing the video.

Tonight and tomorrow afternoon the neighbors home across the street is being featured in the North Augusta Tour of Homes.  She has apparently been collecting nutcraker figures since she was a little girl.  The outside of her house is beautifully decorated and I am sure the inside is as well.

Phyllis, did you used to work as an accountant?

Joan, I got off light yesterday on kitchen duty.  I did make Pat's scrambled eggs for breakfast but we had things in the refrigerator for the other two meals that didn't have to be cooked, only warmed up.  It will be even lighter today as I mentioned about we are eating out for our main meal.  This morning Pat will have a couple of the sausage muffins and fruit for breakfast.

JaneS, I sometimes think I am getting dumber by the day as find my memory isn't very quick to recall names and am forgetting things.  I am hopeful it is just a condition of my getting older and nothing more serious.  I am not sure I have any wisdom to offer the class but it is an interesting hour and fortunately our minister does most of the talking.  He has been in the ministry for 34 years and has an amazing memory.

June, I always do my medications 14 days at a time.  For some reason I really dislike the task of refilling the boxes.  What a pleasant surprise for your grandson to visit you unexpectedly and to spend that time visiting with you.  Enjoy your day of rest today as you recover from all of that Birthday celebrating.

Hal, that weather forecast looks like I had better get my leather coat prepared for use.  I hope that map was showing us at -12 degrees or so below our normal for this time of year and not a minus 12 degrees actual temperature.  Maybe places don't serve coffee with a saucer for so that people won't pour it into the saucer and drink it from the saucer.  :)

Good morning, Larry.  It's cooler than usual here, but not as chilly as you have.  Your neighbor's place must be a showcase if it's on the Tour of Homes.  It's nice you get a day off from kitchen duty.

halkel--Thanks for explaining "saucer and blow".

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool,  but still sunny,
rocky coast of Maine.

I seem to remember the coffee in the
saucer trick but that was done when
I was a very young child....    I also
agree that once the saucers were exchanged
for "mugs",  saucer sipping disappeared !!!

I got up this morning and went through
my laundry while preparing it to wash,
and threw away at least 3/4 's  of it...

Can't think of a better way to eliminate
having to wash them!     Wow...
now I can get around to doing some
laundry,  when the spirit moves me.

I have also had to restart  paying attention
to my diet.  As I am creeping up.

Apparently,  I  am pretty much a
"one track mind" kinda gal .... unlike my
history of having to multi task ..
I like it better this way!

Have a good day,  everyone.   And
stay safe.

Sandy

No, not as an accountant, Larry, but I did take bookkeeping courses in school and until Tom retired and took over the finances, I was the one that did all of the bookkeeping for the household, paid all the bills, kept track of income and expenses, etc.  Of course, after he died, the job came back  to me.  It is a lot more complicated now than it was back then!

The job I had as a secretary to a lawyer, back in the late 1940's paid me 35 cents an hour.  At that time I thought it was a fair wage.

My dad used to say that....if he was in a hurry he wanted his coffee "saucered and blowed".  I never saw him drink it from the saucer, however, for which I'm very grateful.   ;D

Much cooler here today, too.  More like it should be this time of year.  When we had 80 deg. temps. on Wednesday it just felt weird.

I had friends who we use to go out to dinner with often. Use to drive his wife crazy because no matter where they were serving coffee. could be real nice restaurant  but he would pour coffee into his saucer and drink it.  Rest of us did not drink coffee. Suppose he was raised seeing it done at home growing up.  I remember seeing some of the Older People in UK doing the same thing years ago.  Maybe the saucer was invented before the cup. Who knows.

I also remember the saucer and blow as the majority of my relatives were farmers. In fact, I don't think anyone had a separate occupation until my generation.

Hal, I wasn't disputing the lower 48 states will have a cold spell. I was challenging the origin as Alaska gets its freezing temperatures from Western Canada's prairies. The S. E. portion of the state is the same climate region as Washington and Oregon.

Ketchikan, Alaska has the North American record for rainfall and Minnesota has eight of the coldest places in the US, all prairie areas. We were told to expect minus thirty to minus forty beginning last night and instead it warmed up and it is snowing. I hope if it does get cold, that everyone is prepared and stays warm.

My first job outside of babysitting and cleaning was as a  cashier in a ceramics store. I used that old brown register with all the ones on the bottom row, all the twos next and so on up to the nines. I later took bookkeeping in high school and college, but the majority of my career was in middle management, retail, and hotels. I did work twice as a night auditor, but those jobs didn't  last as I am normally up early and early to bed. My last position was as a people wrangler or tour guide.

Good Morning dear friends, had a bad night. Leg woke me up twice so had to "walk it off". Had it checked this morning at the clinic. They think infection may have set in, so they got me an appointment with my Dr., whom I will see at 1:45 this afternoon…rather I will be picked up at the Clinic at that time. My ride is already  arranged for me, and I got big hugs from both of our head nurses this morning. What a Blessing they are.

Gloria, we are doubly Blessed with two fine sons. I'm so happy for both of us.

Larry, I had planned a day of rest, but the Nurses decided I had to see my doctor, so that is all arranged for 1:45 this afternoon. I will relax when time permits. We are having heavy winds from the East today, so Pine Needles are littler the gardens, and there are noises on the roof, something I never heard in my former residence.

Hal, I recall the "saucered and blowed" statement, but not who said it. They still use saucers here at Rowntree Gardens and linen napkins at every meal as well as linen place mats, over linen table cloths. Lots of laundry necessary.

My eyes are getting very heavy and the yawns are appearing one after another. I dare not lie down, because I never know when I will wake up, so I had better go take another walk in the hallways…too windy out side.

Good Afternoon,

One errand turned into five this morning - but I now have a full gas tank, been to the bank, then to Dollar Tree for gift bags for candy/cookies to take to my Bridge Club members and to a garden center for an Amaryllis bulb-in-a-gift-box to take for a Dirty Santa exchange at an organization's meeting.

Temperature was moderate enough that I didn't need a coat over my sweatshirt - but clouds and noon forecast look as if that's going to change throughout the afternoon and night.

That's o.k.  I'm "in for the duration".

I remember seeing some of the old farmers in my small rural hometown doing the "saucer and blow" thing when they gathered to "set a spell" in a local diner.

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

P.S.  June, you slipped in while I was typing.   Prayers and good thoughts that your doctor can clear up the infection and, maybe, find out why you're sleeping so much of the time.

Sandy--That's one way of not having to do some of your laundry--throw it away. :)

Phyllis--Ray never wanted to have anything to do with our finances, so I did it all.  I've done it for so many years, that I decided to eliminate some things that I don't feel are necessary--like balancing my checkbook.

JeanneP--I must have been sheltered because I never heard of or saw saucer and blow.

Angelface--You have quite a diverse work history.

June--I pray that your doctor has something to heal that infection.

Callie--One errand turned out to be quite productive.  Much cooler weather is predicted here, too.

But some of the

Thank You, dear CALLIE,for your prayers and good thoughts. I feel the need of them today. I know my problem cannot be cured, but I sort of hope for a delay.  I would love to reach my 93 Birthday, which is a whole year away, but I am greedy for that one more year.

Bis, I hope the Dr. will prescribe an antibiotic of some kind. I hate going out, but we do what we have to do. I'm just thankful I have no need to bother Gary yet……the love and kindness I receive here is unbelievable, but it is there.

Sandy, you are an inspiration, in your tossing out the unnecessary !! I am learning from you. The junk I save will be nothing but a burden for my dear kids to worry about, so I hope to delete it.

June, I'm sorry to hear that your legs are bothering you.  It makes it hard to get around when they hurt.

I went to my optometrist and picked up new glasses this morning.  People should notice because I went from gold rims to maroon rims.  Both are thin rims, but obvious.

It is dry here, but overcast.  Our temp is in the mid 30s and not too nice.

I am watching a golf tour from Albany, Bahamas; they sure do get around.  Tiger Woods is playing today for the first time in over a year.  I am not a Tiger fan, but I am glad to see him competing again.

OOOOOH, Mary Ann, I LOVE your new glasses.  They are so becoming.

I did get a nice nap and now I have rice cooking to go with the chicken in the crock pot for supper.  After supper, if my energy holds, I'm going to make the coconut cups.

I also have to remember to call my niece.  They will be picking up Bridget from college on the 15th and I want to make a contack with them.  We need to have an exchange of merchandise.  I make crackers for her to give as gifts at school and she brings me coffee from Starbucks to use for myself and to put in the bags for my kids.  It's always the Christmas Blend and it's always good. Her husband is a shift manager at the Starbucks roasting plant in York, PA.

Beeper is going off for the rice.  Be back later!

Well, the weather guessers did good.  We have been having light rain since mid-morning.

I am wondering where a package is that the post office attempted to deliver yesterday.  I scheduled a re-delivery today, which they confirmed, but no sign of it as yest and it is 4:30.  We were (are) going out to eat with oldest daughter, but guess we will leave later than planned if they dont get here soon.  I don't dare let them try again and I am no here to accept it.

June, hope your leg improves.  I know you do to.

Post by: JaneS on December 02, 2016, 06:41:14 PM
I'm not all that organized, Joanie.  I just have things that have to be done and I have to decide when I'm going to do them.  I've decided NOT to make the coconut cups tonight.  I have to deal with the rest of the meat I bought yesterday so I'm going to get that done and in the freezer so I can have tomorrow to myself.  THEN I'll do the coconut cups.

My dad used to tell me that "You keep your mind made up so you can change it."  I think he was trying to tell me that I'm NOT very organized and he was right.  But we have to be flexible, don't we?  If we weren't flexible, we might miss something really good.

I'm off to deal with the hamburger and the rest of the chicken.  SHIRLEY and GLORIA, I can't remember the last time I had a steak but I'd bet I was in Texas and it was done on the grill.  I just plain don't buy steak.  I eat a lot of chicken.

I'm back from the doctor. Saw her for about 10 minutes. She said Yes, I need the antibiotics and ordered a prescription. The whole trip took a good two hours in time, two different, but great drivers that took me to and from the doctors' office, plus the usual waiting time in=between things, so it is good to be home. I had lunch at home, so plan to go downstairs for supper, and that will take care of my day very nicely.

Mary Ann, we all have something, and it seems it was my legs that decided they needed more attention, which they are getting. I am extra thankful for my eyes and ears and mind and fingers and all the other things that keep me close to all of you.

Hal, whatever will be, will be. Aren't we Blessed to know that God is in charge of even small things like us….that even my leg is something He cares about.  Thanks be to God.

Janie, the last time I had a really good steak………YEARS ago. My husband was still alive and still barbecuing . We always marinated our steaks in soy sauce and fresh squeezed garlic…….on the charcoal grill, plus idaho baking potatoes, wrapped in foil and tossed in the coals to cook. Ambrosia of the Gods……

I am getting hungry…..

Good evening.....it is a fridged night here in the Mile High City.  Sure will be happy when all this cold weather moves on and we can warm up a bit.

JUNE, happy to read that you were able to see the doctor today and now have antibiotics to hopefully cure quickly the infection.  I was so pleased to read about your grandson's surprise visit.  How special for you both.

MARYANN, new glasses are always nice...I hope you enjoy them.

I watched the live coverage this morning of the celebration of life for a Colorado State Patrolman that was killed by a large truck that struck him on the interstate as he was investigating another accident last Saturday.  So sad.  He leaves behind a wife and two elementary aged daughters.

Also this week we had a terrible tragedy right here in our community.  A mother bought a gun, picked up her 3 and 5 year old sons early from their schools.  She drove to a recently closed Sports Authority loading dock and then shot the two boys and killed herself.  No one in her family or friends have any idea of why she would do this..... there were no KNOWN issues that would cause her to do this.  Just a terrible tragedy.  Depression is what they are thinking but no one can say they were aware of this being an issue either.  Very sad.

We are watching our Colorado Buffalos play the Washington Huskies  in the PAC 12 Championship game in Levi Stadiem in Santa Clara, California.  GO BUFFS.

I wish you all a good evening...pleasant dreams to all.

CHUCKLES

Memory Medicine

"I just hope it's not Alzheimer's," confessed the gentleman to his doctor.

"Maybe there's some kind of memory medicine you can give me. See, I'm getting terribly forgetful; I lose track of where I'm going or what I'm supposed to do when I get there. What should I do?" he asked glumly.

"Pay me in advance," the doctor promptly suggested.

Food For Thought

The Church’s Orphan Mandate
Author Unknown

There are more churches in America than there are children who need to be adopted! If every church in the U.S. saw to it to just take care of adopting ONE child, then there would be NO kids awaiting adoption in foster care and there would actually be church families on a waiting list waiting for kids to even be available to adopt. That means the solution is possible - every church can be a part of taking care of orphaned and abandoned kids. The government doesn't have the strategy and success because it is the mandate of the CHURCH to care for orphans, widows, poor and oppressed - it's never been the government's mantle. We can do this church! This is how we change generations!

The children included in this map are awaiting adoption in the foster care system. Because these are the state agencies, there would be little or no fees involved for adoptive families. Contact your local DSS or foster care agency to learn of the waiting children in your state.

Good morning Everyfriend!  The last of the chicken that I bought with my extra discount has been in the crockpot overnight.  There is enough to make some chicken noodle soup AND some chicken corn soup.  I'm not going to make soup today.  I'll just freeze it in two containers until some "do-nothing" cold winter day comes along.

My plan for today is to finish the coconut cups and pack up the candy that has to go to my sister, niece and nephew.  I'll have a box ready to take to meet them when they pick up Bridget on the 15th.

I hope you all have a lovely day doing exactly as you wish!

A few lights went up around here on Thanksgiving night but that is too early for me.  I might have David bring up the front door wreath but the tree and window candles will wait awhile.

The temps. are more seasonal today and the sun is shining brightly.  Not sure what I will do with the day but will probably find some mischief to get in to.  I really need to do some vacuuming but my shoulder has been bothering me so I'll try to use that as a good excuse to not "bow to the house-gods".  That is my way of saying I'm going to be lazy today so don't give me any demerits, Joan.

Good morning everyone, sun is shining for now , like yesterday and by noon clouds will roll in again.

JOAN  my cable is $140 and after the first of the year will go up again. I have the very basic and nothing else to drop except the cable for TV. I have talked to a few who have Roku or how ever it is spelled, and dropped the cable.  I would like to drop the phone and just use the iphone but still do not understand that. I do not want to drop internet, I would be lost without the computer.

HAL  wages were really low years ago. My first job  paid .55¢ an hour.

LARRY  so far I have taken only 1 picture with my iPhone and that did not come out good. My daughter gets some great ones with hers and my grandson takes many videos with his.  I saw this morning about the temperatures dropping this coming week. Glad I have a warm winter coat, will be needing it.

AMY  I am not looking forward to snow this year. Too many appointments coming up and I will not travel when it is snowing. Did it for too many years.

PHYLLIS  like you, the warm weather we have been having feels weird to me. Not normal at all, the weather NOT me.

PATRICIA  I started working in a jewelry factory, did a lot of different ones since then and ended making electric circuits.

JUNE  I feel fortunate with my sons and daughter. Even though she is far from here she is still helpful. Hope the doctor found why your leg wakes you.

CALLIE  looks like you did a lot or errands while you were out yesterday.

JANE  I will be there to get some of those coconut cups. Just the thought has my taste buds watering for a taste. I have had a longing for pork chops lately and I have not had one in a few years. Crazy.

JENNY  so sad to think a woman could kill your sons and then herself.

JOAN  about now I have been awake long enough to want some of your breakfast casserole. Chuckles sounds like a former doctor I had. Food for Thought would be wonderful for those children. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  Skype does work with problems at times.

AMY  enjoy the drive. Would love to go to the chocolate factory with you.

PHYLLIS  when my son took me home on Thanksgiving I saw some houses with their lights on, much too early. I know a shoulder hurting feels.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, love technology when I can use it like this morning.  I just got through watching my Granddaughter get married in France.  Our scatter family here in Texas and elsewhere were all watching and commenting.  Just wished someone could have introduced everyone, didn't know who we were looking at, except bride and groom.

At any rate it was a great way to start the day.

Nasty weather here.  I think it must have rained all night.  About five inches in the gauge this morning.  Joanie, I would ship some to you if I knew how.  I have an old rusty bucket but it would all leak out before it got to you.

Gloria, I guess it is all relative anyhow about wages.  They have to raise prices to pay the higher wages....

Everyone have a great day.

Hi everyone.  A chilly but nice Saturday morning.  We are predicted to only get to 58 degrees today and to be even cooler tomorrow with rain starting in the late afternoon.  I got out early this morning and made a fast trip to Walmart to get a couple of items and now am set to stay home the rest of the day.  I will watch some football this afternoon and probably evening.

Yesterday Pat and I enjoyed getting out together.  We went to Tin Lizzy's for our main meal of the day and then came back from Augusta and stopped at the Office Depot where we bought a chair that is adjustable on 5 legs with wheels and arms that Pat hopes to be able to use in the kitchen.  She is feeling better and wants to resume some of the cooking responsibilities (and I am not complaining although I know I will need to be here arms to reach things in the cabinets so she doesn't need to get up and down as that is what is painful for her.  Hopefully the chair will be high enough to to used in the kitchen.  When I went to pay for it I found it was discounted so saved about $25, which was nice.  Now I have to get it put together or wait until Scott comes out Wednesday and ask him to assemble it.  I have several things I want to accomplish this morning such as fixing me some frozen fruit cups and grate some cheddar cheese.  Next week will be a big shopping trip to COSTCO to stock up on several things.

Joan, if my neighbor's house is decorated inside as much as it is outside it probably is a showcase.  While these are nice homes they aren't fancy or anything that would cause them to be on a tour of homes.

Phyllis, I always took care of the finances and bookkeeping since that was my education and work life.  However, a few years ago I wanted Pat to know everything that was going on and she started handling the checkbook and paying the bills and reconciling the bank account.  However, she is finding it frustrating now so since her last operation I have been taking care of all of that and haven't had any complaints from her about it.  I try to document everything well and have also shown my son where everything is because I think he would have to help her as time goes on if I were no longer here.

Patricia, did you ever have to use the comptometer?  When I was in college I had a business machines course and we had to learn to use them.

June, I sure hope that antibiotic stops that infection quickly and stops the pain that interfered with your sleep.  Glad you saw the doctor.  We want you around for your next birthday and beyond.  You help brighten our days.

Callie, what is a Dirty Santa exchange?  Does this relate to gardening?

JaneS, you have the most talkative sofa I have every heard of but its vocabulary does seem limited to the zzz's.

Mary Ann, my new glasses are so much like the ones I had that I have a hard time knowing which is which.  It doesn't really matter since both have the same prescription.  I am also glad to see Tiger Woods competing although it sounds like he has a long way to go to get back into the top tier.

Jenny, what a tragedy of the mother and two young children.  I see that the Colorado Buffalo's didn't fair very well.  We lost a good friend a few weeks ago to suicide.  However, she was an older lady who had suffered with mental illness for a long time.  It was a shock to her many friends.

Amy, I sure would find a reason to go by the chocolate factory today.  I hope you and your husband have a nice day on your drive today.

Phyllis, I remember reading that Erma Bombeck said to just set your vacuum cleaner out and if anyone came by just say you were getting ready to vacuum so you didn't have to do it today.

Gloria, don't give up on your iPhone.  Feel free to write me or call me if I can be of help in understanding something on your iPhone.  I am far from an expert but I bet between us we can figure it out.  I would gladly give up television before I would my smart phone, whether an iPhone or Android smart phone.

Hal, how wonderful to get to see your grandaughter's wedding.  Wow, that is a lot of rain.   Will there be flooding in your area?

Gloria--Rumor is that my cable etc. will be going up again since there's been a big merger.  You are a smart lady and will get proficient taking photos with your iPhone with just a little practice.

Good morning, halkel.  Terrific that today's technology enabled you to view your granddaughter's wedding in France.  I sure wish you could send us some rain.

Larry--Good morning.  I hope the new stool works out so that Pat can do some things in the kitchen.  Are you going to take a peek at the house that is on the Tour of Homes?

Not long back from our annual MS Christmas three course lunch at a large hotel just a short distance away from the MS centre....12.30 - 3.30pm.....Cant fault the meal, one of the best I have had in a long time, not that I have many meals out but.....the restaurant diner was packed, think there are two or maybe three different dining areas as one had wedding guests...Our dining room was bright, with at least five large round tables with each table seating around eight to ten...the waiting staff were excellent, the meals well presented, hot and very filling with a choice of three or four variations which had to be chosen on the leaflet menu a few months ago when booking and paying, but I swapped my afters with someone at our table from the Christmas pud to the cheesecake...I had the melon to start with followed by the fish....and of course all ended with a pot of tea or coffee and the usual after dinner mint...The raffle took place at the end, sadly this time we never held a lucky ticket...Yes for three plus hours I was in good company, just as well as the atmosphere and conversation between myself and R is non existent......Link to hotel...

Good Morning on a cold, wet, dreary day in central Oklahoma,

Everything looks wet but no water running down the street so we must not have had much rain.

Hal,  how much fun to "attend" the wedding in person via technology.

Jackie,  the MS Christmas luncheon sounds like a Fine Affair. So glad you had a good time.

Larry,  Dirty Santa is one name for a gift exchange game played in groups.  Guests draw numbers and #1 chooses a gift (wrapped but not labeled).  Subsequent numbers have the option of taking the gift someone has chosen or picking a new one.  If your gift is taken away, you get the same choice - etc. until all the gifts are chosen.  Then everybody opens theirs at the same time.  You might get a gag gift or something really nice.
I doubt there'll be any gag gifts in the group next week.

In addition to getting all those errands done yesterday morning,  I put the simple decorations on my entry porch yesterday.  Just finished doing the eating area in the kitchen.  Plan du Jour is to "leisurely" see how far I get with other decorations - while watching the Bedlam football game.   Nothing elaborate - just a bit of Christmas color and sparkle.   I use a lot of artificial holly and poinsettias.

I had a surprising and amazing experience yesterday afternoon.
Some minor health issues had been bothering me all week and were really getting annoying yesterday.
At 3:20 p.m.,  I called my doctor's office to see if I could get an appointment with either of the two PAs I really like.  After I explained my concern, the conversation went like this:
Me:  ......could I get in with C or S early next week.
Appointment Lady:  Do you really want to wait all weekend?
Me:  What other choice do I have?
AL:  How long would it take you to get here?
Me:  About 15 minutes.
AL:  C has an opening at 3:45.  I can put you down for that one.
Me:  I'm on the way!!!!!!
Didn't even stop to comb my hair or put on lipstick - just grabbed the car keys and went!
Situation could be taken care of with sample med and an OTC one.  I'm so grateful I won't have to feel icky for several more days and doubly grateful that my doctor's office is so considerate.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Good morning, EVERYFRIEND!

BURRRRR. BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!  Lot's of frost on the pumpkin!  The sun is out though, and it sure is pretty.

JACKIE, I love your avatar....you look nice in blue!  Yes, terrible situation regarding the mother and what she did.  People are really up set that she, or anyone could possibly do this.  Mental illness or what ever the cause....HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY KILL YOUR OWN CHILDREN?  Just the horrid thought of what the poor little guys must have been thinking.  Very sad.  Heart breaking.  So happy to hear about your luncheon.  Will look at hotel pictures when I can.  Always nice to read something that you are able to enjoy.  Sorry your luck was not with you today for the raffle.

HAL, how exciting to be able to watch your granddaughter's wedding that was taking place in France.

LARRY, it is always good to read about your and Pat's outings.  Sure glad she is feeling so much stronger now.  Yes, my BUFFALO'S sure did not fair well last night...but they sure had a exciting season and we are happy the coach was honored with National and PAC 12 coach of the year awards.  You are right, suicide at any age is hard to accept.  I was happy to read that the husband/father does have a support group with him now, but that will change as the family is from afar.  The neighbors are all close, so they will do what they can.  Just so tragic.  BTW, I smile at your Erma Bombeck quote....she was quite the lady that I was very lucky to have met in person.  I agree totally, regarding giving up TV before iPhone or iPad!

GLORIA, the cost of cable is just ridiculous.  We watch only a handful of the hundreds that are available.  My dear friend ac oss the street just got her first cell phone EVER....a iPhone 6+ and she is I heaven.....she had no idea of what the fuss was all about...so she, too, is trying to learn how to use it.  Like Larry said, if any of us can help you along just ask.  Yes, wonderful still and videos can be taken with the phone.  The iPhones are very good at all they can do, but the weakest part is how it is as a phone! Don't be afraid to practice a lot of picture taking...you know they cost nothing and you can blow them away in a flash!

PHYLLIS, take it easy with the sore and aching shoulder.  The vacuuming and anything else can just wait...you know it is not going anywhere!

AMY, I hope you and hubby enjoy your ride, and of course  you must stop at the chocolate factory!

Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies today.  FOOD FOR THOUGHTS are both so true. Enjoy your day.

I am off to get myself ready for a Birthday celebration with my neighbor friend.  She is making me lunch, has baked a pie and we are going to have a very nice gab fest.

CALLIE, how nice that your doctor was able to get you in right away...hope the Meds take care of your issue.

Take care, everyone.

Jenny

Good morning from a soon to be busy, Saturday in the Interior!

Farrah is getting to be almost too smart. If I go into the closet where her food and treats are stored, she is right there and very vocal, within seconds it seems. She must sleep with one eye partially open and an ear cocked. The laser light is the same. I can pick up the old tin piece, and she is right there as she knows what it does.

Often she will drop her felt mouse in my lap and sit down close. If I don't immediately toss it for her to catch and attack it, she will verbally remind me to throw it. She has never meowed or made natural cat sounds. But the few she does make are simple to understand in context. She must believe humans are so slow.  :) She now interacts with both men and women visitors, enjoying pets and rubs so I feel she has totally overcome her abusive past.

Larry, I have never used a  comptometer, but realized that I had seen them before when I Googled the term. I took Begining Bookkeeping and Bookkeeping One in college, but my primary focus at different positions was either the cash office, reconciling or auditing other's department reports and tapes.

We are still getting snow here as it is warming and there is more moisture. The last few years we have had little to no snow so there have been some fender benders and two soldiers got into a physical altercation over one such accident. We are said to have two inches on the ground and another 3.6 in scattered dusting throughout next week.

Vanilla-Jackie--Your MS group luncheon/party sounds like it was a lovely affair.

Callie--I've been in groups who played that Dirty Santa gift exchange--fun.  If the event wasn't at Christmas time we called it "White Elephant" gift exchange.  How lucky you were to be seen by a PA so quickly.

Jenny--Enjoy celebrating your birthday with your friend/neighbor.

angelface--I think Farrah is one very smart cat.

I went to the country store where I buy some of my candy supplies and they had wreaths outside the door.  I bought one for my front door and one for my back door and they are hung.  So, like Callie, it will get done a little at a time.  While I was rooting around for the over the door wreath hangers, I dug out my 2 large and one small Christmas flags.  If I feel like it later, I might hang them today.

Must get back to the coconut cups.  That's the assignment for today.  Keep on keeping on!

Patricia, I swear Kendrick has ESP.  He can be sleeping in the living room - or elsewhere - and when I get out of my chair in the computer room, he is at the door to meet me.  His food is beside that door.  If I go anywhere near the front door, he is there to be let out - if I'd let him out, which I don't do.  I let him out on the deck a while ago and he stayed just long enough for me to sit on the couch, then he came to the slider door to let me know he did not want to stay outside.  When he sees me go toward the slider, he puts his front paws on the glass to let me know he doesn't want to be outside.  I will have to have Annie look for a laser light because I think he'll have fun with that.  I have no idea what has happened to previous lasers.

Everyone seems so busy with Christmas preparations.  I do have a few things I'll bring upstairs.  I also have to look to see what I might have in Christmas cards because I still send out a few.  I've received two already.  I don't do any Christmas baking but I do order a few things.  This is the first year the adults are not going to exchange gifts and I'm glad about that because I am hard to buy for and I don't need anything except services.

Good afternoon, one of those in and out kind of days.Cloudy right now, and again very windy.

Larry, I love to read those old sayings of E. Brombeck.  Last week I was watching and old Johnny Carson show and she was on it.  Hope the chair works for Pat. I just finished one week of PT, but I do not see any improvement, I think at this age, the spine is pretty well set, He looked at and old MRI I had made 6 years ago, and one disk was gone then, and the spine was bent. If the PT does not work by the end of the week, he said shot again in the back. Which I have done, and they only lasted a month. Then go back in 3 months and get another. I think I will just go along the way I have, and just smile. :)

Hal, that was wonderful you could view your GD wedding.sometimes new technology is not so bad.

Gloria, in 1941 my first job, paid .35 and hour. Cyriel started out in the power Co. in 1947 for .95 and hour. That also was the year Dennis was born.

Thanks Joan for goodies.

June, I went to the doctor once a week, when I hurt my leg this summer, as it was infected. It finally did get better, after months.Poor circulation

My first job paid $75 a month, payable in two installments of $37.50 each.  Later on the company went to weekly payments and that first payment was hard because we had to wait the two weeks then it was half of what we had been getting.  I did get used to it.  I worked for 43 years and 9 months, most of it in the Appliance Department (the company sold major appliances for many years until 1973) and I worked in that department 25 years in the office.  It was a good company to work for and now all I ask of them is to get my pension check in the bank each month - which they've done so far.  I only worked for the one company.

Linedancer--Too bad you can't tell much difference after going to PT.  I've heard many say that those shots in their backs didn't help much--sure wish you could get some relief from the pain.

Mary Ann--Kendrick keeps you "on your toes".  My very first job, when I was still in high school paid $.35 an hour.  My first job after college paid $76 a week--checks received weekly.

As Janie would say, I am all in but my boot laces....we had a fun day...I did accomplish a lot too! The Chinese buffet was excellent and I managed to bring the dogs a wee treat  of chicken balls!
Over to the chocolate factory where it was just humming with people shopping. We managed to get some goodies and yes Joan check out the hidey hole....even dark maraschino cherries. I did stop in the quilt shop and picked up a gift for daughter in love for her birthday. Then we tootled on home, the weather was perfect and all 4 of us are beat now. Yes, the dogs went with us .

My first job was walking the neighbours dog, I got $1.00 a week for that, Next I worked on a farm in the summer picking raspberries for 5 cents a pint and 10 cents a quart. When I was 15 I worked on another farm helping with chores and farm work. For that I got $1.00 a day plus room and board. LOVED that job!

Time to relax :)

HOORAY!!  The coconut cups are done!  And I made some new flavors this year....mint and raspberry and they are also done.  Only a few until I tried it out and now I have to do a taste test.  I'll put a few of each flavor in the hidey hole so you all can do a taste test also.

My first job was part time while I was in high school.  It was a variety store (5 and 10) and I worked after school on Friday for 5 hours and all day Saturday (9 a.m to 9 p.m. with 2 half hour meal breaks.  I took home a grand total of $13. 50 a week for that.  An 10 of it went to a store where I had a winter coat laid away.  It was the first real item of clothing I ever bought entirely for myself and I loved it!  I don't remember retiring so I must have worked about 65 years.  You'd think I'd be making a thousand dollars an hour by now.  If that happened, I'd work another year and retire!

Amy glad you had a nice day!  My VERY first job was babysitting and I got 25 cents an hour to watch 2 little boys.  Sometimes my sister would come and help me but usually I had them all to myself!

And I'm all in but my shoestrings, too (My boots have a zipper)

The rain continues to steadily fall.  Flash flood advisory is now in effect for next day and 15 hours.  When I went out this morning our local creek was bank full.

Amy, choclate factory.......hmmm hmmm good stuff,

I worked at Safeway grocery store on saturdays from 8 till 10pm a dot a whole two dollars.  Also pulled a lawn mower, yes I said pulled, for the groundskeeper when he mowed the football field.  Believe it or not that was  a two day job.  Got twenty five cents an hour, which was big money but hard work.  No power mowers in those days, just the old reel mowers.

My first few jobs were babysitting and berry picking for nominal wages. Then when I was 15, a group of us got together and designed fliers for housekeeping and empty apartment cleaning. We, there were six of us,  worked in pairs and did better than our previous babysitting. My first actual job was in a ceramics craft store and I made 40.00 a week.

MaryAnn, Farrah doesn't know time or regular cat behavior. If you open the outside door, she hides at first. She knows when its breakfast because that is first thing in the morning between shower and coffee making. She doesn't meow, doesn't wind around your legs or chatter at birds. She doesn't sit on your lap or sleep on your bed but I'm hoping that may come later. She will stretch out on the back of the couch behind me and sleep which is a sign of trust she recently started.

Hal, be careful. I was in a similar flood and that water just swept up and over the trees and inundated everything very suddenly.

My first job was in a
"clam and burger shack"  that was just
down the street from me..

I have no idea how much money I made,
but maybe $1 and hour... for a few hours at a time.    I was 13 or 14.

What I do remember is that I went to
a Red Sox/Yankee ball game in Boston,
with my Father and a friend of his.
And the person that I worked for gave me a note to give to the manager of the BoSox  before the game.

In return,  the manger of the BoSox brought me out a base ball signed by the Red Sox and the Yankees...     Ted Williams,  Mickey Mantle,  Jimmy Piersall, Yogi Berra,  Whitey Ford...

Imagine that?    I had that ball for years,
but somehow or other it disappeared..

Imagine that!

The hardest job I ever did was in the Westinghouse factory.  The year I graduated from high school and was heading off to college, I got a job in the that factory.  Since they knew I wa only summer help, I did a lot of jobs for short periods of time, including hanging over a solder pot, sorting about 80 bins of small parts and even learning to assemble radios on a line.  The nice lady next to me would see things beginning to back up and she'd say, "Let a couple go past dearie, I'll get them!" When my grandmother asked me about half way through the summer if I'd learned anything, I told her emphatically "I've learned that I don't want to spend the rest of my life working in a factory."  I always felt a little sorry for the people who bought the radios that I worked on.

Funny thing is, that by the time my daughter Cathy graduated from high school and was heading off to college, RCA had a factory nearby.  She got herself a summer job there and did almost exactly the same things I did.  And she said almost the same thing about not wanting to spend her life in a factory.  FUNNY!

My first job after leaving school was in the printing industry....printing factory, stacking magazines and newspapers coming off from the large rolling machine, and stacking them onto the wooden pallet....If I remember rightly my take home weekly pay after tax stoppage was £5 - 7 shillings and tuppence...in old money, ( pre - decimal )....

I was only there a few months as they had taken on a handful of school leavers, only to tell us they were moving the company into London....In those days, if you worked in the print, you was required to join the printing union, the father or mother of the chapel as they were called...( a shop steward )  who called a meeting and was up in arms as to why the company had employed us school leavers knowing the company was soon to be moving...So that was my first taste of employment....

I did do baby-sitting (or child sitting) for 15c an hour.  If it was close to home, I walked to the place and/or walked home.  At night, in the dark.

Sandy, if you still had that ball, it would be worth a lot of money, especially with those names on it.  Occasionally, a person will bring an old ball to Antiques Roadshow and they're worth thousands!

I was a Detroit Tiger fan when young and saw them in a few exhibition games in Grand Rapids, and the only major league games I saw were the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds; my cousin lived near Chicago and he took me to those games.

I just discovered I was not in this morning...woe is me...a bad night of leg pain, and walking the halls, and not so good today either. I am on the antibiotic so hopefully it will kick in and do some healing. This too will pass, and I am thankful I am still operational...able to walk, talk, breathe, laugh and cry when touched in the heart.

I have really enjoyed just sitting back and reading what you all have done this day.

Hal, I pray the flood waters will cease before any danger arrives.

And I pray you all have a lovely evening. I hope to get in to say goodnight. Love you. June

You are lucky Hal. I had never forgotten that night when I was 15. I was sitting looking out over the birch trees in the lot next to the river. My dad had been out all evening with his river boat ferrying people to safety and my mom, sisters and I were bushed from getting the house ready and managing to help some of our neighbors find a place to sleep in our house. Luckily, the folks that built our house were Dutch and had brought in fill, so the waters never reached more than the basement.

I was sitting, looking out when I heard this odd sound. I looked up and saw this wall of water rise up and over these tall, old trees and crash down to the ground before spreading out to cover everything in sight. In amongst the water were oil drums, wooden steps, septic tanks, paint cans and other bits and miscellaneous stuff.

It was a view of nature I hadn't seen before and have never forgotten.

Patricia, that was a horrible experience you had at 15 years of age. I am sure the scene will remain with you always. I'm glad that you were saved.
