Gloria, I read back over posts again to find where I'd read last & was surprised by your comment, "SHIRLEY  that link was meant for all the Republicans yesterday"...   I honestly had not considered it as "political" but as one of the Sophia moments where she would say, "picture it...."   If the image in my head had been a Democrat friend doing the happy dance to a tune I hadn't thought of in 50 years, I would have thought it just as funny.

I really am sorry if anyone that voted for other than Trump, took offence, I did not intend it that way.  I would never crow or say anything to insult or hurt feelings,  I was/am glad the election was over.  I thought Hillary's speech was gracious and thought she and President Obama have been dignified with their actions since the end of the election.  My sincere apology if anyone else took my link as anything but a funny image of an 82 year old doing a happy dance by herself.

My headache is back & I need to stay away from the computer to see if the light is what causes them.  Don't worry, I'm fine, just need to try to eliminate every day things I do that might be causing them.  I will peek in to see how everyone is doing but as y'all know, it takes longer to take notes & comment..... be good!   Shirley

Tisie, I am so sorry you are having trouble with your eyes. I read somewhere that if we spend a lot of time on the computer we should look 'up and out' to the distance occasionally. I guess it uses different eye muscles or something. I do look forward to your posts..they are always interesting.

A nurse just came in and took my blood pressure. It is acting up again. 176, and for some odd reason it had dropped below a hundred, then later up to 102 ..... no one has answers for that. I have no idea what my normal pressure is...it has alway fluctuated back and forth.

It is almost eight o'clock so many of you good people are already snuggled down in your beds. Sleep well dear hearts, God is watching over you. I send you my Love and Prayers. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend, on this Veteran's Day.  Let us all take time to thank our Veterans--those who have served, those who are now serving and those who gave their life fighting for our country.   There's bagels and cream cheese to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

Need A Lift?

As a concierge at a posh resort, I was often asked about the ski facilities. One day a couple who had just checked in after a long flight came by and asked me where the lift was.

"Go down the hill," I told them, "out the door, past the pool, 200 yards down the block, and you'll see it on your right."

Their tired faces suddenly looked even more exhausted, until the man behind them spoke up. "They're folks are from England," he said. "I think they're looking for the elevator."

Food For Thought

The Peace of Christ

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Colossian 3:12-17

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts . . . as members of one body. . . . And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15
My grandmother was one of the most peaceful and thankful persons I’ve ever met. As a young boy, I often took her cheerful personality for granted. Looking back on her life, though, I cannot help wondering how she managed to escape bitterness and resentment.
Her younger years on a farm in Russia were tough. In her teens she endured the war, Nazi occupation, hunger, hard labor, and suffering. Later, after moving to a city, she was injured in a work-related accident and lost the use of her right hand. Even so, she remained cheerful and thankful to the very end. How can this be?
There’s an answer in today’s passage. The apostle Paul talks about the Christian calling to peace and thanksgiving. For him, these attitudes did not depend on happy life experiences or special training. Peace and thanksgiving come through Christ alone.
When Christ’s peace rules in our hearts, it changes us and our perspective on the world. It gives us strength to meet our challenges with grace and ¬humility. And no matter whatâ€"we are called to be thankful.
I’m convinced that my grandmother had the peace of Christ in her heart. Each of us can experience this peace too, if we humble ourselves before God.
Do you have this peace?
Heavenly Father, help us to humble ourselves and receive the peace of Christ. Teach us how to reflect your peace in this world with grace and thanksgiving. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, it sure does get me tired when I go out these days. I was asleep by 8 last night again. How about those who lost the election carrying on and having demonstrations yesterday. There was one in our statehouse here yesterday.  Crazy.

JOAN  this new doctor is not one to procrastinate. I got a call yesterday from the MRI place and have an appointment for next week already.  After that she has me lined up for a pain clinic. Big difference from me almost begging the doctor I left for something.

LLOYD  many people did not like it when Obama was elected but did not have demonstrations after he was elected but didn't carry on like many did yesterday. Stupid, really.

JANE  your comment yesterday is true. Time to put our trust in the new President. Only time will tell what the outcome will be. I love it and have no desire to move out of our USA.

AMY  it was beautiful here yesterday, I went outside a couple of times and walked around the parking lot. Temperature was perfect for that.

PHYLLIS  like you I do not talk about politics or religion. We all have our beliefs and do not have to try and get others to believe like we do. I will be getting a new rollator but this time Medicare will pay for it. I was surprised when I moved here that the others with rollators did not buy theirs like I did. I learn more every day about what some get that Medicare pays for. When I go and sit on the porch I get my rollator backed against the railing so I know it will not move. My brakes have been gone for 2 years now.

HAL  sure we trust you with the oatmeal cookies-you would leave us a few crumbs if we are lucky. Funny man, as if I could run after my rollator or anything else these days. I do not want to discourage you but I did have shots in my back several times and they did nothing for me. The doctor wanted me to get them every month. I had read and heard so many times that those shots should only be given 2 or 3 times a year. Seems like the stuff they use can weaken the bones. Sure do not want that. I was awake when I had the shots in my back. Then was told to go home and lay sown with an icepack on my back. Heck by the time I went up those stairs I think the shot was already worn out. I do love the way they fix roads here, too. Half way done and that's it. Bridges in this state are so bad that the government is making the state finally repair them.

AMY  now you know I would have to have a sample of every thing you put in the hidey hole. I like all that you baked. I really miss being able to cook and bake like I used to.

JUNE  no fear of me running, can hardly take a few steps without the rollator.

SANDY  there are 2 ladies here who  had strokes, one is confined to a wheelchair and the other has no use of her left side. She does great for herself and goes out most every day. She does not drive but has friends that come for her. My Mother was almost blind but her eyesight went because of diabetes. She was a lady who loved to read the newspaper and missed being able to do that anymore.

SHIRLEY  guess I thought of it the way I did because of the long drawn out companying we endured. I am content with the way the voting turned out. I never liked Hillary. Well if you are taking time away from your PC at least say hello so we know you are OK. Do you need glasses?

JANE  in my nightly prayers I always ask God to help our country and keep it strong.

JOAN  my daughter and I were talking about family members who fought for our freedom and thanked God they all made it home safe with only one being wounded. If he had not been sent back to the States he might have been in the D-day invasion. Love a toasted bagel and cream cheese. Good chuckles, another example of one word meaning something different in other countries. Food for Thought is the proof of loving God to see us through the hard times. Thank you for today's goodies.

Mid day yesterday we went over to the MS day centre where we timed it to have a lunch....I took a few items for their inside run charity shop, said hello to a handful of people, staff and MS'sers, still not an actual member yet as my MS card hasn't been swapped over, they are dealing with this for me...dont quite understand this swapping over really, just going with the flow.....Around our dining table there was some sort of problem going on, cant say too much as neither myself nor R quite got the gist of things, so dont know all the facts.....Just something to do with a lady MS'ser in a wheelchair sitting opposite, think at one point she may have had her, or a, carer with her, where at some point their was an unfortunate incident where this lady literally had her dinner plate whipped from underneath her, not too sure of the facts but, talk from someone on my table said someone had put in a complaint, something about the carers insurance wouldn't allow her to feed this lady, not sure but, talk of if she was to choke...So this poor lady was going, or would have gone hungry with no dinner, if it hadn't of been for an MSs,er man I got talking with had offered on taking over spoon-feeding here some pudding, not sure how or why he could do it when the carer couldn't, maybe the carer, or the complainer had left the premises...Talk about bureaucracy gone crazy....

Amy

Good morning everyone
The sound of the wind woke me up, hope it dies down soon.

Gloria, I don't do near the baking now that I once did on the farm. Times sure have changed our eating habits.Great that you now have a Dr. that not only listens to you but makes things happen too!!!

Jane , we have that wind here too and yes it sure makes it feel colder..hubby calls this a lazy wind........rather go through you than around you!!

Touching up on what didn't get done yesterday, I finally got Babes nails cut...after I gave her a pill to chill out. Makes my job much easier with no fighting to do them.

Joan,my hubby loves bagels and cream cheese......thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Jackie-Vanilla.  I feel sorry for that lady who needed to be fed.  The incident must have upset her.

Amy--Good morning.  It's chilly here (for us).  Checked the temp, and it's 59° at my house.  No "lazy wind" here today.

The sun is coming up bright and cheerful.  It's chilly but that is the way it is supposed to be this time of year and it will warm up a little during the day.  Just right for me.  I love the Fall!

I don't bake much of anything these days, Amy, and I really miss the smell and taste of fresh baked bread.  I'm lucky to have several good bakeries not far from me where I can buy good bread but still, it isn't the same.

Gloria, I believe I fixed the brakes on my Rollator.  I took several thick and strong rubber bands and wrapped them around each of the brakes where they touch the wheels.  It works now just fine and though I know the rubber bands will need to be replaced fairly often I have LOTS of rubber bands.  I knew there had to be a reason that I collected all of them in a kitchen drawer!   ::)

I keep thinking about fresh baked bread.  I just may pull out the bread machine and let it do the kneading for me since that is what is hard for me now and then stick the loaf in the oven just to have that wonderful aroma throughout the house.  Thanks for bringing up the baking subject, Amy.

Enjoy this beautiful day, Everyone.

Good morning from the dark and cold Interior! And Happy Veteran's Day to all of our soldiers and those of other countries that worked and bled to keep their countries free! We are having a cornbread and chili feed at noon today with the menu decided by the veterans among us in the building; it should be a good time for all. Then there is the large Thanksgiving meal here in a few days time. The company is providing several turkeys and hams, coffee and the cookers, utensils, paper goods, etc. and the residents will provide the rest. There is also a sign-up sheet for those seniors wishing for a food box of Thanksgiving day meal delivered so all should be represented.

Farrah has completely settled in. She has become both athletic and verbal.Yesterday she leapt four feet up to a counter and then looked at me like I was the one questioning her ability and she hadn't spent some minutes estimating and plotting her course. She also will come up and make questioning sounds to me, and I wish I knew what she was saying. I had three friends over for coffee one day, and she went over to one, sat at her feet and directed her questions to her. My friend looked over at me and asked what she wanted.I said I wished I knew! She is confounding because she doesn't like wet or canned food which is what the vet recommended and eats only about a three-fourths cup of dry daily. She seems interested in people food until it's offered and then she turns her nose up at it, including tuna!

I recently purchased a small indoor-outdoor vacuum as I can no longer deal with the belts in my old vacuum cleaner. I have the same issue with my printer, needing to take it down to the office to have them do any necessary printer maintenance. However, when does that become less of a favor and more of an imposition? I hate not being able to do so many seemingly simple things anymore!

I've thought about buying both a pressure cooker and a bread machine lately. Does anyone have any advice or comments about using a bread machine or if it's a worthy purchase?

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It looks like we will be having a mixture of sun and clouds today with it getting up to about 73 degrees on this Veteran's Day.  There is a wildfire advisory out due to the lack of rain during the last month and unusually low humidity of 15 to 25%.  I woke up at 5:30 this morning, laid there awhile and realized I wasn't going to fall back asleep so picked up my iPhone and started readings for today, including the discussion boards.

Pat has a Chiropractic appointment late this morning and I will go over to COSTCO to pick up my glasses and get a couple of things for lunch tomorrow, when we will have two friends visiting for the day and we decided to have lunch here rather than to go out.  I will get some of the delicious chicken salad and croissants and something for dessert.  Not sure what else Pat will want me to fix for the meal.  We may eat out at noon after Pat's appointment this morning.

We have been enjoying watching a new Netflix series called "The Crown" that is about the early years of Queen Elizabeth's life and assuming the throne.

Joan, I thought I had posted here yesterday as I prepared it and then ran out of time and hit the post button but didn't wait to see if someone else had posted while I was writing.

Patricia, thanks for re-posting what I had written in Norm's B&T discussion.  It would have been exactly that with a few individual comments.

Shirley, hope you awoke without the headache today.  they sort of remove the joy from the day.

Gloria, glad to see you were happy with your new doctor and her prompt action to get things scheduled for you.

June, so good to see your uplifting postings again.  I do hope you are feeling much better.

Jackie, your experience at the MS center yesterday and the lady not being fed is terrible.  That is a strange experience.

Amy, I like your husband's comment about the lazy wind.  I have never heard that expression before.

Phyllis, I don't see any bakeries around here that sell break outside of the grocery stores.  We do have a couple of cupcake/cookies places and they seem to be quite popular.  Cleaver idea to use the rubber bands to fix your brakes.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!!

It is a chilly morning here today.  Got my old sweater out and will use it this morning.

Not much on the schedule here today, have a day off.  Although I am about caught up on appointments, thank goodness.

Jackie, that is something about the lady that needs feeding.  Wonder why they have a caretaker if they cant take care of her needs  It was great the man took things into his hands.

Gloria, it is great that you now have a doctor who acts on your needs and not just blows you off.  I too have had shots in my back, both awake and being put to sleep.  And like you they didn't do much good.  But my daughter and doctor both insist I try one more time.  The doctor told me try two shots and if they don't help call me back and he will see about something else.  I am no sure I will let them cut on me.

Those demonstrators are mostly paid demonstrators, it didn't take long for them to hit the streets, almost as soon as the results were announced.  http://www.infowars.com/video-high-school-girl-viciously-attacked-for-supporting-donald-trump/  I have to ask who is showing the hate, Trump supporters or Hillary supporters?

I hope, wish, the media would ignore them, but they wont.

JoanFL

Good morning, angelface.  You're going to have some nice meals there.  I love chili--no cornbread.  Farrah sure is a character--keeps you guessing.

Larry--Good morning.  There's wildfires here, too.  We have had only a few drizzles of rain since the hurricane.  I can get pretty good bakery bread in the Publix bakery.  Enjoy your visiting friends tomorrow.

Good morning, halkel.  I do hope those shots in your back help.

As far as I was aware, this lady never kicked up any fuss, although at one point she did move from the table to the food counter but I wasnt aware at the time, nor of any conversation that took place....In fact she had a bit of fun at our table telling the couple of MS guys sitting near to her to behave themselves when the pair of them became a couple of comedy characters, a bit like the Morcambe and Wise comedy duo....both done a bit of ribbing at each other...this lady saw the funny side and had a smile on her face...even I joined in over their comedy antics across the table, although me and her never actually spoke to each other, just smiled at each other...Yes I agree, what a terrible way to treat someone, and to think, one day it may be possible I could be this lady...Have to admit, I felt rather uncomfortable with all round the table eating while this lady was sitting and watching us with no plate in front of her, the room was quite full...and thinking this lady is going to go hungry for the day....I would be inquisitive to know what the full story was.....In hindsight there was another MS lady being spoon fed at the other end of the table....and possibly sure there may have been others in this room at the other two tables...I know there was one with her lovely care worker at the back of me, as I had already spoken to her because I recognised her from our table last time I wa there, 3-4 weeks ago, so I made a beeline to go speak to her...the care'er that is.....

Joan all I could make out was that someone had reported her, dont know whether staff, her care'er, or another MS'er...I was just relying on the MS man sitting alongside of me in what he was telling me, which was in earshot of this lady, well it was when she came back to our table....Have no Idea whether this has gone on before, or a one off...
Just that I was told she had already started to eat, when her plate was taken away...I just couldn't believe that had happened.....both myself and R were left totally dumbstruck....how cruel....

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone,
from the partially sunny,  and cool,
rocky coast of Maine.

Happy Veterans Day,  Everyone...
I didn't realize that it was a special
day,  until I saw the parade that went
by my Windows to the world.   It was
a pretty good size parade,  because this
year the weather has been conducive
to people out and walking about.  So I
opened all my windows and enjoyed the
parade.

I know that it seems like things
are a bit slow in here...  But I blame
it on us being  in between seasons so
when the big holdays come along,
people will begin to be more communicative.

I am also spending time now playing
catch up on the videos on NetFlix,  CBSAllAccess, and Amazon...     There
are a mess of tv series that I will be
watching and paying attention to,
as I am still trying desperately to
wean my self off from cable TV.

Trying to go from cable to just streaming shows is not an easy process for me.
For one thing,  to do so successfully,  I  have to pay strick attention to organizing my viewing time  with streaming sites that are available to me.     The benefit will ultimately
be a much lower monthly cost,  while I
realize that I am making good use of the
streaming channels of my choice.

I kind of compare it to my choice not
to own any more animals  (ie cats)...
and for me it meant getting use to not having
cats in my presence...    I am doing ok
with that  so I will be working on simply
unplugging my cable  and making do with
what I else I have available.     If I can make it
through a couple of weeks WITH OUT,  then
I will consider pulling the plug permanently.

Ok.. so that is what I am up to now.

You all have a good day.

The " eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month " of 1918......The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations, and coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, public holidays....I am ashamed to say I went to have a wash at 10.15am with the intentions of watching it on our tv, 45 mins later, and standing to attention of " God Save Our Queen..." only I got distracted and completely forgot, and ashamed to say, six hours later when it came on our tv news to remind me....that I had missed it.... R was doing his shop, and I know it comes over the supermarkets loudspeaker where everyone stops for the two minutes silence...Now strangely if he was at home, R doesn't stand to our Anthem... ::)

Good afternoon, very windy, but sunny cool Fall afternoon.
Yesterday I wrote a long post, and then pushed the wrong key, and it went puff!.

Gloria, I am happy you like your new doctor. When I went to the orthopedic doctor a few years ago for my back, he sent me to Pain Management I was told I could get the shot in my back every 3 months. That i did for almost a year, it would last about 1 month. Finally he said they would try 5 shots across my back, which did last about a couple of months. I always came too in the recovery room, and got a drink and cookies. I have spinal spondylolis . Now Monday I have and appointment with and orthopedic doctor about my hip and leg pain.

Joan, I enjoyed that story about the lift.

Larry, I also lost my post yesterday. Enjoy your company

June, I am still saying so happy to see you posting again. did you receive the card I sent you?

Patricia, I think you have a cat that is a character, makes life interesting for you.  When friends were looking for my lost hearing aid, they found a red mouse, that had been missing for a couple of years. She went crazy playing with it. I have bought her other toys and she has nothing to do with them, but loves this little mouse.
By the way I have been without my hearing aid for over 3 weeks, and I am not a happy camper, It is also over 10 days since a new one was ordered.

Jane, Lloyd, Jackie Jeanne, Sandy and all my other friends in here hope you are having a great day.

I'm late coming in to say Good Mornining..it is already 10:30. I was awaked at 4 a.m. by a loud crash. I felt my  computer must have fallen over to make a noise like that. So up I got to investigate. It was a picture of Dori and Gary…one of the grouping of my beloved family. I picked up the pieces and went back to bed. Later when I was up for a while, I put the picture back together and rehung it, without the broken glass. The picture fell against a wall furnace projection and made a clean break of one cross area…two pieces instead of one. That was my introduction to the day today.

Gloria, I have learned that is how I must use my rollator now. Not one step taken without it.

Janie, I do understand your feelings about the posts. We have a whole separate place to go and speak about various things…like the election…and it should be used for our thoughts, not here in our gentle soda shoppe. I am guilty, and will cease. We are here to enjoy each others lives in joy, commiseration, sadness, help, all things related to our personal lives, not the outside stuff we cannot agree on. So when I finish here, my next stop will be in the political forum.

Larry, it is a joy to be back among all you loving folks. My boys decided I am going to have a lap top computer as well as my imac, that way if I have to be hospitalized for some time, I can still keep in touch with all of you dear people.

Hal, I don't know your age, but at 92 I will not submit to any kind of surgery again…injections are o.k. or any exterior cutting, but no opening up this old body that would have to try and get well again..NO WAY ! I will look forward to what will happen once I leave this world. It is going to be a real "trip".

Gloria de, I have not opened my mail yet, other than to check for vital things. Your message is awaiting my opening, and I know it will be lovely and I thank you. I feel shamed that I have not done my email…..sorry about that dear.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Linedancer--Sorry you lost yesterday's post.  I hope when you go to the orthopedic doctor on Monday he has answers to alleviate your hip and leg pain.  Glad you enjoyed the story.

June--You sure got abruptly awakened when that picture fell.  Good you could piece it back together and rehang it.  I think it's great that you are going to get a laptop for times when you are away from your Mac.
