Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's a breakfast crockpot casserole to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her nice “November” graphic creation which we are using this week.

6. "Here class...just put all your gym shoes in this box next to my desk."

5. "I bet all the people in our administration really miss teaching!!"

4. "Gosh, the bathroom smells so fresh and clean!"

Food For Thought

Can Adultery Be Committed Online?
(by Dave Clark)

A letter from an anonymous woman to an Italian magazine's advice column recently created a buzz in Rome. It read: "On the Internet, you can fall in love, you can seek, you can truly desire. I ask myself, what difference is there for the Church between a real extra-marital affair and a virtual one?"

A priest, responding, said adultery is adultery, even if it is virtual. Newspapers in Rome have been awash with reaction since.

Glenn Stanton, author of Why Marriage Matters, sides with the priest's response. "It's the matter of the heart and the matter of the soul that really does matter," said Stanton, who thinks Internet chat rooms are breaking up marriages around the world.

"It's about not being faithful to your partner in giving your heart, your feelings, your emotions to somebody else. Whether or not that's done physically is, in some ways, of small consequence."

Jesus, in Matthew 5:27-28 said: "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (NIV).

Steve Hewitt, editor of Christian Computing Magazine, echoed that cyber-romance can be problematic.

"I think the Internet's ability to establish anonymous relationships over distance is a very dangerous thing to the present relationships we have," Hewitt said.

Added Stanton: "Although there isn't a meeting of bodies, there's a meeting of souls, which is really what Christ was getting at, in some sense, of what adultery is all about."

Forty percent of Italian women responding to a follow-up survey feared their husbands might find a woman more interesting than them while surfing the Web. No word yet, though, on husbands' fears over their wives being led astray.

In today's "social networking" world with sites like Facebook where it is easy to find and connect with people - including people you may have been romantically involved with earlier in your life - this is even more common of problem.

Thought of the Day

"Lukewarmness is the Christian's Achilles heel. We cannot lead anyone to Christ who is more committed to the world than we are to Jesus."

- Joe McKeever

Hi everyone on this beautiful cool 44 degree Sunday morning here in South Carolina and only to get up into the mid-70's this afternoon.  I am almost ready for church but it will be a little while before time to go.  I did remember to set my clock back last night before I went to sleep.  The three college football teams I follow won their games yesterday.  I will watch some Pro-footfall this afternoon.  Nothing of note to mention regarding yesterday as it was a quiet day.

Gloria, every once-in-a-while Pat will put her spices in alphabetical but it is hard to keep them this way as there are so many bottles.  Before we moved here she had them on little raised plastic inserts in the cabinet and it was easier than on this turn table.

Callie, I expect they just put up a barricade at 2 pm so that no more voters would get in line.  At least that is the way I remember them doing it in Georgia.  If you were in line at the given hour you were allowed to vote.

Lloyd, sorry to learn that your chin strap on your CPAP didn't work for you.

Joan, a beautiful graphic that Phyllis made for us and thanks for selecting it as just right for this time of the year.

Good Morning.    I wake up 7 hours after I went to sleep - even if that does mean I'm up an hour earlier than I intended to be.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good morning, Larry.  It's sunny here and in the 70's.  I was ready to tear my hair out when the TV, phones and internet all went down yesterday.

Callie--Good morning.  Imagine that!!  You are up earlier on Standard Time.

Good morning, Amy.  Your lunch sounds good.  Do you supposed you could put some in the hidey hole?:)

Good morning everyone, well if the clocks weren't turned back I would have slept late this morning, but 7:30 really is not late for a retired person.

JOAN  weather has not been normal for a couple of years now and early warmth made the trees blossom and then a late freeze killed the blossoms and this year it was the gypsy moths that ate every thing in site. My son is not the only one to be hurting.
That French dressing is what I grew up on.

CALLIE  glad I no longer stand in those long lines to vote.

SHIRLEY  I have a flat skillet that I used for pancakes. My problem is I cannot stand to make them. Then the counters and stoves in here are not for short people like me either.  I had a square cast iron fry pan I loved and got to the point I could not pick it up with both hands. My daughter now has it. I will stay independent in voting. I will not get into my feelings about politicians. You have your Mary Poppins wish and I wish Samantha was here to twitch her nose and every thing would be clean and food to tempt me would appear.

JACKIE  every time I go to my son's home I look for their dog, that one I always called mine. When I was there he was like my shadow. I still miss her very much and it has been 5 years since she crossed the rainbow bridge.

AMY  I cannot buy jeans or slacks that do not have to be shortened. Last time my daughter was here she shortened 8 pairs for me.

PHYLLIS  your graphic for this week looks like the trees here now, even to the colors. Not many bright colors left but still beautiful. Thank you for sharing you your talent every week.

JOAN   You are here late today, hope you are OK and forgot to change your clocks. I have copied your chuckles to send to my daughter. I know she will chuckle with them. Food for Thought is one more people should read and pay attention to. Thank you for all today's goodies.
Just saw your comment to Phyllis. Darn internet at times.

LARRY  in my cabinets here I have sliding trays and I have my spices on one of them. Much easier to keep them alphabetical now.

AMY  no sunshine here yet and it rained overnight. I only know because my windows were wet when I pulled up the shades.  What time is lunch? I want to be there in time.

I've checked in 3 times so far this morning to see if any news from June.  I did say extra prayers for her, and prayers for all Friends as I did get to church a little early.  Like Callie, my body said "enough" and I got up.

Amy, that apple pie sounds SO good.  My mother used to say that her gr-mother (that had a big influence on her since her mother ... gr-mother's daughter, died when Mom was only 7) loved apple pie for breakfast.  She said that apples & the dough & sugar just came in a different form.  I approve of her message!   ;)  Would love some of your ribs.... one thing I will never try to fix again.  Failures every time & my ego can't stand another~  I also don't do brisket or that fantasy fudge.  I've suffered enough humiliation for a life time!  Now I am prepared to just be an appreciator....

Ah, Gloria, I forgot about Samantha & would be just as happy if she showed up at my house.  I need help beyond human kind.  About those pants that need to be cut off, last time my daughter was here I was rushing to get dressed & pulled on the wrong pair of slacks & didn't have time to dig out the ones I thought I had so rolled up a couple hem lengths & apologized for not having them hemmed.  My daughter explained "that's the new style".... so I never did get around to hemming.  Will do that today since I need to sew a stretch of elastic on the inside back of the waist band 'cause they slip down.  I keep inch wide black & white elastic on hand all the time since I like slacks comfy but not falling down.  Remember Helona & I used to talk about this place we shop at.... that carries name brands that prices start at 75% off.... and then they have sales?   My closets are groaning & I need to pull out stuff that didn't turn out comfy & take to the DAV or Goodwill.  The Salvation Army store isn't "on my beaten path".

Joan, I copied yesterday's "Don't You Hate it When?" and today's "Things You'll Never Hear a Teacher Say" to send to my daughter-in-law....  She gave up being an Industrial Engineer to be an elementary math  teacher & thoroughly enjoys having "teacher jokes" to share.  Thanks for all your extra "work".... demerits for you???  ;)

Larry, we had the most perfect fall morning of the year today, almost no wind, brilliant sunrise and cool enough to wear a jacket.  I walked into church with the biggest smile on my face and had a big "Thank you, God" in my heart.  I have a feeling that your house is as well organized as your mind, and that is a very admired trait in my opinion.  I would love to be but am not. I tried really hard for my husband's sake but I do know he did understand my failings.  Any time he needed an extra pair of hands I would drop whatever I was doing to go help him, be it putting a roof on the house or "go fetch" tools or hold the other end of a board he was sawing.  I willing to try anything and love to make people smile.  Eventually my work gets done.

Phyll, a beautiful graphic.... we didn't see that much color this year but I do have photos from one fall in CO of the white aspen trunks still holding onto some gold & rust leaves.  My son loved the scene so I had an 8x10 print made for his office.  Like yours, a hold your breath moment because you know the snow will fall soon.

I hope June is doing okay.  God Bless all of our Friends.

Good Morning from the cool and partly cloudy,  rocky coast of Maine.

I turned my clock back and now have
to look forward to it getting dark now
before 4:30 PM in the Afternoon....

I really hate this,  because my vision
gets worse at night  (after daylight
retires),   but......   I am just going to
have to get used to it and be grateful
that after Dec 22 the daylight starts
to get longer.

I wish everyone a good day.

Shirley--Glad your daughter-in-law can use some of the things I post.  I am going to see if I can find out from Dori how June is doing.

Sandy--I don't like Standard time either.  We only have to wait until March to change back to DST.

Joan again:   I have trouble wrapping my mind around "adding" an hour when I set the clock "back"!!  It's o.k.    I got to church at the right time.

The Church Ladies went to a Chinese restaurant today.   The Lunch special is two entrees - one on either side of a huge scoop of rice - plus an egg roll and a cup of soup.   We all got take-out boxes.
Other than agreeing that the lines to vote on Tuesday may be shorter because of the huge number who voted early, we didn't settle any important issues.  Sorry 'bout that.   ;)

When the family went to Washington D.C. in 1976,  a relative took us to an "all you can eat" crab diner somewhere in Maryland.  It was the first time we had experienced brown paper on the table with everything dumped in the middle.  #2 son, who was 9,  slipped a crab shell in his pocket and then put it in his suitcase to take home as a souvenir.
We were in D.C. another 5 days!!!!  Needless to say, the crab shell did NOT make it back to Colorado!!!!!

When you fall back, you use the same hour twice. Such as when you set the clock to 2am so it is 2am twice, instead of going on to three. When you spring forward, you are skipping that hour and going on to the next.

just checking in.  I did post this morning, but guess someone else was posting at the same time and mine didn't go.  Wife had greeting this morning so we left early.  And I lay down on the couch to watch some football and napped most of the game.

We took my SIL and my daughter out for his birthday dinner at the Texas Roadhouse and it was a good meal.  Felt a little sorry for one of the wait staff, they dropped a tray of drinks almost right next to us and what a mess, but we didn't get any of it but glass and drinks was everywhere on the floor.

At any rate, I am off to bed.  Good Night, Sweet Dreams and God Bless.

Food For Thought

Fruit in Every Season

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Revelation 22:1-6

On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.
Revelation 22:2
In the Northern Hemisphere, the end of October brings the conclusion of the growing season. Though harvest continues in a few southern areas, most crops are finished by November. Until spring, the land lies quiet in the winter cold.
Our lives here on earth also have periods of quiet when it seems that not much growth takes place. Sometimes we feel guilty for that: we sense that we ought to be able to do more, to grow more, to feel more holy. In his book Spiritual Rhythm, Mark Buchanan writes, “Winter hides God.”
But the Christian faith looks forward to a day when growth will be continual. The Bible portrays the life of God in the new heaven and earth flowing without interruption to his people. Instead of a lull in the dead and cold of winter, God’s healing power will always bear fruit.
Further, the Bible pictures this great harvest in the midst of a city. Cities and harvests normally don’t go together. Farms and orchards lie outside cities, and food is brought in to areas where more people live. But in God’s new creation, Jesus the Lamb will always be close to his people to provide all that they need.
What a marvelous picture of God’s goodness!
Father, we look forward to the day when we will see your perfect goodness for us all of the time. Make our hearts and lives ready for the perfect joy of life with you in the new ¬heaven and new earth. Amen.

Good morning everyone..

Chilly this morning temp is at 20°. Yesterday was such a beautiful day, we had a great time with daughter and son in love. Lots of leftovers so I don't need to worry about "What's for dinner".

Need to go to town and pick up a gas can so we will have one that just holds high test gas for the snowblower and that is about it other than waltz with the vacuum and tidy up.

Hope June comes back soon.

Joan thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi everyone on another bright and soon to be sunny morning starting out at about 51 degrees and is to go only to about 71 degrees this afternoon.  My schedule is light today with only my Monday noon meeting on the agenda.  However, I may make a trip to COSTCO and be there when they open as we need to restock our refrigerator with some meat.  Thankfully this is the last day before our big election day tomorrow.  I will need to rest up so I can stay up later and watch the returns.

We had a very nice Church service yesterday as it was All Saints Sunday and as the names of those who had passed away from our congregation were read one by one a bell was sounded and as the service continued until the end when four bells were run in different corners of the church. The rest of the day was quiet and enjoyable with some listening to Don's musical program, taking a nice nap and then watching some football.

Amy, reading that you were making homemade bread makes me a bit envious.  It has been a long time since we have made any although I think we still have the bread maker machine.  Pat is trying to stay away from bread but I may buy a bread mix one of these days and get the machine out and bake a loaf.

Joan, your cable service hasn't been very reliable recently.  Hope it is OK now.

Gloria, do you lay your spices down in the drawer so you can see the labels?

Shirley, apple pie for breakfast sounds delicious.  It was so cool in the house yesterday morning that we turned on the heat and will do so again this morning to take the chill off.  This house warms up quickly.  Sometimes I wonder about how organized my mind is anymore as it is taking longer and longer to come up with things or names.  While things are pretty organized in our home the problem is remembering where our organization put them.

deAngel, like you and others I also have June in my thoughts and prayers and do hope we get some word today that she is making progress in recovery.

Hal, some excitement at the Texas Roadhouse.  At least it wasn't someone at your table that spilled a drink.

Good morning everyone, sun is shining bright and beautiful. Should warm up.

AMY  been 6 years since I had a slice or warm homemade apple pie. That is the last time my daughter was here. Sure will be a treat.

JOAN  after going through all the spices looking for what I wanted I finally have a system for them. Crazy because not I do not cook like I used to.

SHIRLEY  one thing I miss is making fudge. So far have not had a housekeeper or CNA I would trust to make it for me. I really don't think any of them can cook because what I have asked them to do so far has been inedible. I learned how to make fudge before the days of the marshmallow fluff. When I got married I could make fudge, chocolate cake and spaghetti sauce. That was it. When my ex sis in-law's daughter comes here from Italy every summer she brings an empty suitcase. She goes to “Sally's” aka Salvation Army and buys clothes. She has a sense of style and gets some great looking outfits. Of course she is tall and slim so easy for her. We shorties always have trouble. My sil has taken me there but I could never find anything to fit me. Like you I send the teacher jokes to my daughter and  the last one got a laugh from her.

CALLIE  I can imagine the smell if your son got that crab home.

GLORIA de  glad you have friends that check on you.

JOAN  a Cinnabon will be so tasty this morning. In Food for Thought I love the line  “Jesus the Lamb will always be close to his people to provide all that they need. “. So true. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LARRY  the small jars of spices I lay down but the taller ones I have to stand up in back of them. There are no regular drawers in this apartment.  Have to open the doors and pull the slide out so it is pretty easy to see what I want.

Good morning, Amy.  GREAT that you had such a nice time with your daughter and son-in-love yesterday.  I am sure you're not looking forward to dancing with the snow shovel of snow blower.  I am missing June, too.  I sent her daughter-in-love an email but haven't heard back yet.

Larry--Good morning.  Tomorrow I'll try to get a nap so I can watch the election returns.  I have a feeling that could go on all night.  You're right in that my cable service isn't reliable.  Unfortunately they have a monopoly here so I have no choice but to use them.

Good morning, Gloria.  You're obviously more organized than I am with your spices.  For years I made 10 lbs. of fudge every year around Christmas, but gave that up a few years ago.

Lloyd--Good morning.  I saw on the news about the OK earthquake.  When we lived in Arkansas we were also on the New Madrid Fault.

Good MOrning Everyone!

Had a light shower first thing this morning, just enough to wet the sidewalks but not enough to really water everything.

Larry, speaking of fresh bread, in Canada we used to go to a bakery right outside Ottawa on Sunday's and get warm fresh bread and bring it home and pull out real butter and a pot of coffee and stuff ourselves. Of course that was when I was in my 20's and stayed very active.  But there is nothing better than warm fresh bread, taste and smellwise.

Our cleaning lady is here this morning and hard at it.  She will be in here shortly and I will vacate the room until she is finished in here.

I join everyone else in hoping our June is doing okay.  She has been kinda under the weather so long, I hope they get things back in shape so she has some of her old energy.  She is a real sweetheart.

I have to get with the program and pay some bills, I usually try paying them as they come in, but have let some lay in the stack for a few days. They aren't late, but I don't like to let things linger.

Well, tomorrow is the big day.  Has everyone voted or made plans to vote.  I mailed ours in a couple of weeks ago.  Almost half million have voted here in San Antonio already.  All kinds of records have been broken.  If nothing else Trump and Hillary have gotten folks out to the polls.

Everyone have a great day.

halkel--No rain here but very windy.  We used to do the same thing you did at a bakery in Syracuse.  We'd stop and get a big round loaf of hot bread, take it home, rip off hunks, slather on the butter and have a feast.  My cleaning people came this morning only this was NOT the day for them to come.  They made a mistake and will be back tomorrow.  I just will be glad when this election is over.

Yes... June's sodium was dangerously low. As it turned out they could not do what they needed to do at the Rowntree clinic... I believe for insurance reasons. At any rate, she should be coming home later today or tomorrow.

As for how she is, she seems fine.... She says she misses her computer. I am sure it is because she misses all of you too... she truly does love her Seniors and Friends. And of course, all of us in her family feel that love as well. I want to be just like her!!!

Thank you for loving her so and for checking in. I will let yon know more after we visit her (or if we get to take her home) later today.

Love and hugs,
Dori :)

Merry Monday,

Last night, I was at church for a musical program.   We were standing and singing a hymn - words on a big screen.  I suddenly felt a bit disoriented and thought the picture on the screen had moved.  Because of my labrynthitis - and the fact that nobody else reacted - I thought it was "just me".
When I got home, I discovered the real reason I'd felt that way! The Big Quake had just happened.    I'm surprised nobody at church commented.
I assume the screen pic movement was because the projector, which is suspended from the ceiling, was shaking.
Nothing out of place at my house.
Cushing is about 55 miles from here.

Miss Emily was in an aisle at the Academy store in Stillwater  (25 miles from Cushing) and reported that things fell off the shelves - but nothing hit her.

It's pouring rain today -no wind or storms.  Reminds me of the day grandson was here and it rained like this.  When the rain stopped, we sailed toy boats down the side of the street all the way to the end of the block and around the cul-de-sac.  He said it was "The Best Day Of My Life".   I think he was four.  :smitten:

Joan,  so good of Dori to send a report on June.   When I read what she considers a meal,  I remember my Mother being hospitalized because her electrolytes were "out of whack" - due to the way she was eating (or, rather, not eating).

Oh my - hot fresh bread slathered with butter......  :eat:

Busy week ahead.  Domestic Duties necessary today - demerits or no.   :)

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Good afternoon, a little on the chilly side. Sun shining. Again windy.

Just got home from the hemotalogist    blood test showed my count went down again, so . had to get a shot. Also BP high, for some reason when I go there it is higher. When I go to primary doctor. it is OK

Joan, i am so glad you posted about June. We all miss her.

Gloria, I think i have to go through my spices and check dates.  A lot of them I have not used, as I do so little cooking now.

Callie--I remember that story about you and your grandson sailing boats down the side of the street after a rain.  Good memories for you.  No problem getting info from Dori.  My Dad had the same thing happen several times in his later years--sodium and electrolytes whacky so off to the hospital he'd go, they'd get him regulated and he'd be OK for a few months.  He claimed he ate, but we knew he was eating very little and it certainly wasn't a balanced died.  Glad you and yours suffered no damage or injury from the earthquake.

Linedancer--I hope the shot helps to raise your blood count.  My BP is always higher when I go to any doctor--white coat syndrome.:)

I sure am missing Janie.  I hope I didn't do something to offend her.

Have butter, will travel!!!! OH how I would love a loaf of fresh out of the oven bread.  I could make a meal with just bread.  When my parents were alive I always stopped at my local grocery store & would pick up a big, round Dutch loaf (usually 2) to take to them along with big pot of roast & gravy or whatever I had cooked for them.  Before Dad died the bakery had changed recipes because the stores had been sold to Kroger.... and the bread wasn't at all the same.  I used to make refrigerator rolls ever so often..... and family would clean up the whole pan before the next batch came out of the oven.  The recipe made the equivalent of 3 loaves of bread so the 3rd loaf I would roll out & braid, putting cinnamon & sugar in the braid... and make a powdered sugar & butter icing to drizzle over the top. Each slice was buttered & gobbled up like they hadn't eaten in a week.

So glad for the news of June, (thank you, Joan) hope she gets to come back today or tomorrow.  I wonder if... because when we eat foods like canned soup, TV dinners & even V8.... high in sodium BUT probably not the salt that has iodine in it.  This I truly don't know, but when my husband was put on the low salt diet he had to take iodine pills.  Anyone know if my "theory" has any merit?  I've Googled but don't know/understand completely.  I am a "salt alcoholic & do salt everything, much to the dismay of my son & DIL.... they eat lots of fast foods but don't salt anything extra at home.  When camping my son doesn't ever even salt his eggs.... & I don't know how he can eat them.  Of course, they are black with coarse black pepper & I don't like pepper on my eggs.... BUT, I do buy iodized salt.

Callie, I'm still grinning when I think of your son & the shell.... because we hit one campground on the coast the day after a "blue moon" tide had completely wiped out the row of electrical camp sites nearest the water. The high tide also brought in lots & lots of shells.  Dumb me, I never thought about them having living critters inside so was delighted to pick them up & noticed other campers had them placed all over the picnic tables.  We never stayed any place more than one night so I put mine on the table to sort out & promptly put them in ZipLoc bags.  By the time we got home I noticed little critters in the bags, dead.  Yucky.  They smelled so I dumped them out, a neighbor said I needed to put the shells in a big pot & boil them on the outdoor grill.... which I did & after was all done, dumped the whole lot in a flower bed.

Cats all wanted to eat early & I am thinking a nap sounds really good.  We've had a shower off & on during the night & today, nothing much to help the yard or trees.  It is cooler & I finally turned the furnace on, set it on 68 so it doesn't dry out too much.  I'm not sure about turning on the humidifier.

Callie, I saw there were several earthquakes in your area, more than usual (at least when I look at the site).  There was also one in Colorado but I don't know the location.  I just looked again and saw there was an earthquake within the last hour in  your area but there were five shown for today so far.

It was good to hear from Dori to know June is OK.  June will have her 92nd birthday this month and "it takes one to know one", we don't bounce back as readily as we used to.

Shirley, I don't salt my food at home unless I see someone else salting theirs.  I may think the food doesn't taste quite right, but don't realize why until someone salts their food.  Dumb, but that the way I am.

Shirley--I, too, am a saltaholic.  I don't honestly know about the salt in food we eat, salt from the salt shaker and iodine pills.  I'm giggling about the stinky shells you collected.:)

Mary Ann--I take a taste of the food I am preparing to eat--whether at home or in a restaurant and can immediately tell if I need to add salt so it tastes good to me.

Good Evening Everyone...

I have pretty much given up processed
foods....  even though I liked some of the
canned soups,  the over abundance of
salt was just too much for me.

At home here I use "No-Salt"  which
is sodium free.      But just enough
salt like taste to keep me satisfied.

And instead of suger I use
"Mommie Knows  Best" pure stevia
powder.

Gone are the good ole  days when I
could eat real salt and real sugar,
but with the substitutes I use,  I
am satisfied.

Unfortuantely for the last couple
of weeks I have over eaten to a
point that I definitely must go back
to my eating regime,  again.    I will
start this Wednesday... And boy do
I have a lot of losing to catch up on.

I think that I have put on 10 pounds
these last few weeks...    Oh woe !!!!

Anyhow.     I have one more day
to pig out and then I am back to
behaving!!

Have a good evening,  everyone!

As I mentioned, I may taste a food and know it doesn't taste right, but I don't know why.  Then someone will add salt to their dish and I know that salt is what is missing.  Even then, I just sprinkle a little salt on the food and do not overdo it.

I don't know how to explain my evening.  Just before suppertime, I hit my glasses and they went between a table and the wall.  When I went to pick them up, they fell to the floor behind the table.  I have very close quarters here and was going to get a yardstick to see if I could move the glasses nearer where I could reach them under the table (it's really an old end table that I think my dad made).  At that time Tom said that supper was ready so I went in to eat.  Afterward I watched TV and forgot about the glasses (they are my computer glasses) until I was ready to compute.  In trying to reach the glasses, I found a letter opener that I had "lost" last summer.  Not only that I "lost" the next letter opener and fortunately had another one.  Later the second one turned up (it had gotten behind me under the afghan on the back of my chair).  So today. with all of my hunting, the first opener turned up and now I have three letter openers available!.  To continue. I finally moved the glasses toward my chair and I could reach them.  It's good that bedtime is approaching.

A good Monday evening to EVERYFRIEND.  I was hoping our JUNE would be back, but thanks to you, JOAN, contacting Dori, we know she is doing better and will be back with us soon.

JACKIE, I have been thinking so much about you and how lost you must be with Benji gone.  Bless your heart, it is never easy to go on after a loved one passes, and yes, that includes our pets.  Hugs to you.

My dad is doing OK.  He continues to be dizzy at times, but is being very careful when he gets up and walks.  If he is super dizzy he has a walker close by.  He is no way drinking enough water, but is doing better than he was.  I do not understand as I drink so much water it is crazy.  I ðŸ'—ðŸ'— water, so it is easy for me.

I, like many, can not wait to have the election over.  I can not help but be concerned about what might happen when the results are known.  There are some pretty crazy people out there.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Mary Ann, I'm also giggling & grinning at the "picture it" day.  That's the way mine have gone this whole week.  I've lost more things & found all but one, but also found a few other missing things (like your letter openers) that had been long gone & forgotten about.

Good night, June, in case you get close to a computer & peek in!  We miss you.... and Jane is also missing.  :o

Jenny, glad your father is doing better.  I was never a good water drinker but found I do get more down when I have the frig full of bottles.  Do hope you can encourage him to do what is necessary before you have to go home.  Daughters can get away with nagging better than any other family or friend.  I know~

CHUCKLES

Perplexed

While riding the bus, my mother noticed a young man, who was holding onto the same pole, staring at her. Eventually, he said, "Excuse me. This is my stop."

Since she wasn't blocking his way, she was confused. "Well," she said, "go ahead."

"And this is my pole," he said.

My mother was completely perplexed until the young man added, "I just bought it at the hardware store to hold up my shower curtain."

And with that, he picked up his pole and carried it off the bus.

Food For Thought

God’s Harvest Faithfulness

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Genesis 8:13-22

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
Genesis 8:22
We’ve come to the end of this series of reflections on the promise of harvest in this world and in our souls. We have seen how the process of growth in creation offers a fitting picture of the work God is doing in the human heart, and how that process leads us to deeper trust and hope in the work of Christ.
Today we are reminded again of God’s faithfulness throughout both the natural and spiritual processes of harvest. As the story of the flood reminds us, judgment is a reality. A perfectly righteous and holy God does not simply look the other way when we sin. But judgment is not the only word.
We live in a world where floods, droughts, and other disasters sometimes affect the prospect of a harvest. We also recognize that temptation, hurt, despair, and our own foolishness can affect the growth God cultivates in our souls. And sometimes, as with the great flood in Noah’s day, it may seem all is lost.
Yet God remains faithful. Just as God showed mercy to Noah and his family, so in Christ God demonstrates his faithfulness to us all.
Follow Jesus, embrace his Spirit’s cultivation of new life in your heart, and live in the trust and joy that God’s promised harvest gives you certainty for all eternity.
Faithful God, we praise you for your commitment to us. Bring us to Jesus so that we can grasp the full assurance of your harvest work in us. In his name we pray. Amen.

Hi Joan,

Just wanted to let you know that our dear June will be coming home from the hospital today. We are just waiting for the doctor to sign the release form and we will deliver her back to her sweet little abode! :)

Thank you again for your love and friendship to her... and your kindness to me.

...I had missed the posts of Junedrabek being admitted back into hospital, but relieved to hear the good news she is soon to be released back home, and back into her " abode " any time now...
...........................

I have my monthly MS support social evening tonight, we will of course go, but unlike R who gets over things quicker than me, I know I shan't be, nor will I want to be, in my usual jolly mood....I am going to attend tonight as its their annual fish and chip meal, not sure who is supplying it as told last month that we dont pay for it, I would have assumed we would, only seems right as this is all a charity type run gathering....
...........................

Tomorrow my three month long wait urinary bleed appointment takes place,...I am due to see the Urologist so have no Idea what to expect...all i am hoping for is that this will be the end of my problem and not the starting of it....

Good morning Vanilla-Jackie.  If things went according to what Dori wrote me, June should be back home now.  It's good, IMO, for you to get out to your MS group and have a meal with them.  Best wishes for tomorrow and your appointment with the urologist.  I hope that will be the end of that problem.

About 30 mins - 45 mins ago, 10.am'ish I changed my mind about Benji's ashes box,....last Thursday with the 6pm closing time upon us, I had chosen a khaki coloured cardboard scatter box, which in hindsight was quite unsightly, the only scatter box they had with the intentions of swapping it at a later date, but In hindsight would be something I would not be capable of doing, so quick as a flash and with panic as I do, I got R to phone the vets praying I- we wasn't too late...well we told we weren't but they WERE coming to collect our Benji this morning, so I asked R to ask them to send email photos of the choices of caskets, they gave us the link and I quickly went onto the site and picked a proper wooden casket out, basically the same as the one we have our Megan's ashes in....In the meantime we also made a vet appointment, I made R make it at their rival surgery, even though R caused me a whole lot of grief a couple of days ago by suggesting ( and not only suggesting, but he would have had no qualms about doing so ) he take Toby into the same vets where our Benjis body was still laying, I told him it wasn't right, disrespectful as the next time you-we go back to that vets is the day we bring him home, re, his ashes...I was fuming, how could he even consider walking in, then out that door knowing Benji's lifeless body was there not a few feet away....Anyway we had previously mentioned to our usual vets receptionists that Toby was impossible to get his worming tablet down his throat, so she said, just bring him in, and we can do it for you, so that is what R will soon be doing, only taking him in to the other closer small surgery, they will also check his anal passage as he has been doing a lot of bum scooting...we were lucky to be given a 12 noon app, it is now 11.10am....I shan't be going with him just in case the same vet that ended our Benji's life is on duty, as they do take it in turns flitting from one surgery to the other.....

Good morning Amy and Joan, yes it was the same vet who R saw this morning but R said, neither mentioned anything of our last Thursday evening at the other vet surgery....R said vet had trouble the first time getting the wormer tablet down Toby's throat but managed to force it down on his second attempt.....plus his anal glands did need clearing out, they were rather full....Oh the " anal glands, " that was the starting and the ending of our beloved Benji...

Hi everyone on this election day here in the USA.  It is going to be a very nice day here in South Carolina for the folks who go to vote.  We have had early voting in this State as several others are doing.  However, I am sure the lines and waiting time will be long today.  It is in the 40's here this morning and predicted not to get out of the high 60's this afternoon.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to take Pat for her 11:30 am chiropractic treatment.  I may make a quick trip to Walmart to pick up prescriptions for us both.

Yesterday I had a pleasant surprise in that Pat went to COSTCO with me and was able to get the last available electric cart so she could get around the store.  She hadn't been in a store, other than restaurants, for over 3 months.  I ate a quick early lunch while we were there as didn't have much time when I got home before needing to leave for my Monday noon meeting.  The rest of the day was spent resting and taking it easy.

Our pastor posted this yesterday on his Facebook page probably because our service was 15 late getting out Sunday.  However, our congregation didn't have the same experience as those in the following story. I thought you all might enjoy it.

Half Of Congregation Dies Of Starvation As Sermon Goes 15 Minutes Over Time

RUSSELLVILLE, ARâ€"Roughly half of the churchgoers at First Baptist Church Russellville died of starvation Sunday after the pastor tragically went 15 minutes over his standard sermon time, local sources confirmed.

“We don’t know if the pastor simply lost track of time due to passion while preaching the word of God, or if something more nefarious was going on,” police chief Dwayne Carroll told reporters Monday morning.

“It’s hard to imagine that Pastor Frank did not notice the panicked glances at phones and watches, along with the thunderous stomach growls and moans of agony reverberating throughout the sanctuary within minutes after he began to breach his normal closing time,” the chief continued. “Whatever the case, he went well over his standard allotted time for delivering his message, and roughly 75 people in attendance simply could not hold out, succumbing to their hunger before the the end of the church service.”

Thankfully, the other half of the congregation was able to make a speedy exit as soon as they were dismissed, frantically rushing out the doors and flooding all local restaurants for emergency sustenance.

“Pastor Frank should have known the dire consequences of a church service going even a minute past its normal ending time,” one survivor noted to reporters. “I mean, people have to eat.”

Police Chief Carroll confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Gloria, I think Pat would like to have the slide out shelves put into our lower cabinets.  We had done that several years ago in our last home and it was very helpful.

Hal, I have started paying my bills within a day or two after I get them.  As a result don't have many to pay at the beginning of the month.  I would rather have a good loaf of bread than a piece of cake.  The smell of yeast bread baking just can't be beat in my estimation.

Callie, glad you weathered the earthquake without damage.  I read that Oklahoma has had many, many earthquakes this last year.

deAngel, sorry that your blood test showed your count was once again down.  Glad they can treat that with the shot.

Sandy, Pat has switched to the Stevia for sweetener for her fruit and coffee and I got a nice size bag of it to use in recipes that call for sugar.  We have been using Splenda.

Jenny, many older folks don't consume enough water and become dehydrated.  I had an internist several years back that told me about 70 percent of the older people he sees who complain of just not feeling well are suffering from dehydration.  Glad your Dad is doing OK.

June, glad you were able to come home from the hospital yesterday and I expect you are feeling much better.  I well remember my bout with low sodium and getting a call from my cardiologist to get to the hospital immediately.  I hadn't been eating and was feeling very tired but thought it was from my heart.

Good morning everyone, looks like a good day to get voters out to the polls. Hope my vote counts and that there are no more "hanging chads" in Florida.  Would hate to see the results from today dragged out longer.

JOAN  I have no intention of staying up to watch the returns. I'll just say extra prayers that the one I picked wins. I lost track of how many batches of fudge I made, 3 different kind and it sure was an expensive time for me, between the fudge and all the different cookies I made.  I started buying the ingredients in September so I didn't have to spend all that at once.

LLOYD  like you I am ready for the Lord to call me home. I am not afraid.

HAL  nothing like the smell of bread baking in the oven and then when done slicing it and putting butter on it and enjoying it. Like others I too miss June.

JOAN  when I used to visit a brother and SIL he would get up early on Sunday morning and go into Fall River to a Portuguese bakery and get 2 round loaves of Portuguese bread, hurry home where my SIL and I would be waiting with the coffee ready and the butter on the table. We would devour the 2 loaves and enjoy every bite. It was still warm when he came into the house. Great memories. Thank you for sharing Dori's email with us.

CALLIE  glad you are OK after that quake. Like you at times I wonder about some of the things June eats. I used to think she had a cast iron stomach for some of that food.

GLORIA de  I have an ex SIL whose BP goes up when she sees her doctor. They laugh and call it the White Coat syndrome.  I do little cooking these days so I but the small jars of spices. If I had the room I would keep them in the freezer.

SHIRLEY  I think we all have memories of fresh baked bread. I know growing up my Mom made it often and when my family was young and I was energetic I made at least 4 loaves every week. One loaf would disappear before the others were cool.

MARY ANN  I salt the food I cook but have never put the salt shaker on the table. Glad you found the letter openers and very glad you got your computer glasses back in one piece and not broken.

JENNY  like you I drink a lot of water. From what I have read getting dehydrated is not nice.

JOAN  I will enjoy apple pancakes this morning along with some crispy bacon. LOL with Perplexed. Food for Thought, I will never understand how people cannot believe in God and Jesus. Thank you for all today's goodies. So glad June is going home.

JACKIE   hope tomorrow's appointment does come up with a cause and treatment.

AMY  good morning.

LARRY  this is a handicapped apartment and there are no drawers in the kitchen. I rather have drawers to open than have to move out of the way to open a door.

Good morning, Gloria.  In days gone by I, too, spent a lot of money making candy and cookies. It seems many of is loved bread hot from the bakery that we could eat right away with lots of butter.  Housekeepers made a mistake and came yesterday--wrong day--so they are coming back this afternoon.

Good Morning on a dreary drizzly day in central Oklahoma.
Won't be pleasant for those who have to stand in line outside to vote.  However, #1 son reported it only took him 48 minutes.  Of course, he lives in a different county and went before work, so the line may not have been as long, anyway.

I'm glad my "I Voted" sticker is still sticky enough to wear today.

So glad June will be going home today.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Good Day.

I was surprised to find my question to Jackie in this folder.  I typed it then the Post did not take and I waited a few minutes before I copied it, then went elsewhere.  When I tried to find where I had been, I couldn't find it, so posted in another folder.  This dang-blasted computer!!!

I've already had three political calls this morning, at least I think they were political, and I did not answer the phone as I didn't recognize the numbers.

My day just gets better....Toby got wormed at the vets 12 noon.....around 3 or 3.30'ish pm, I sat in the living room and could see Toby eating from the grass through our glass panelled door, I called to R, told him he is eating something in the garden and moving around eating....R went out, I managed to get up, go check and saw R just literally standing over him and watching and ignoring him with whatever it was he was eating, never even bothered to stop him.....then half hour ago Toby brought up sick in the kitchen, obviously bringing up some of his wormer....we cleared that up, R went back to sit down in the lounge, me back in the computer room when I heard what sounded like Toby being sick again...yes this time bringing up a whole lot more in several places, guess now all his wormer has also come up....what was R thinking of, standing over him while watching him eat from the ground..... no wonder I daily live on my nerves....That wormer was meant to last and protect him for the next three months...

Good morning, Callie.  I am glad I voted by absentee ballot.

Mary Ann--I've had trouble with posts hanging up here in S & F today--it's slow, slow, slow.

Vanilla-Jackie--Will Toby have to get wormed again now that she brought it all up?

Joan, no, would be too risky to give him another wormer...It goes by weight of the dog, and we dont know how much, if any, has already gotten into his bloodstream, or body, or wherever it does go....

Joan, R is volunteering to take me, then come back home, then come later to collect me but...his Idea is to bring Toby along for the ride in the car, so he is not left alone incase he is sick gain...hellloooo, putting a dog in a moving car when they have previously been sick.... :idiot2: .....I may still go, but am I really in the right frame of mind?...on the other hand, getting out of this home and away from R for a couple of hours, can only be a bonus.... Of course this is the time I would normally be feeding Toby, that is of course now put on hold but, R will be taking over, so heaven knows what next will happen while in his, not so, capable hands....

Good Afternoon Everyone!

It is a beautiful cool but sunny day
here on the rocky coast of Maine this
Election Day.

All is well here as the countdown begins...

I am still in awe of all the space that
I have freed up since I cleaned out
my spare room.

I should have done this  a long time
ago....  but what's done is now done.

Have a good day,  Everyone!

Sandy--All I can say is that I will be glad when this election is over.  Good for you getting that spare room cleaned out.

Joan, I did go, and R did take me, then he came back to keep Toby company, said he had been ok.......Now its 10pm and I just fed Toby, I know a crazy time, and one of us will probably need to get up to him through the night but he was excited when I got indoors and looking for food....Since he was last fed 9am, and brought all his food up in the afternoon-evening, couldn't let him go without food inside him till morning.....

Tonight I forgot we were having a talk on " first aid..." it was interesting and I learnt more than what I knew before I went...then around 8.30pm someone brought in our fish and chip boxes,  some moved to the tables, myself and the lovely older couple I sat with stayed in our comfy armchair and had our meal on our lap, the trolley as usual came round with the cups of tea, but no nibbles this time....We had our usual raffle and I got to get up with one of my numbers, I chose a slim wildlife wall calendar complete with a black pocket diary, we get to choose from what is on the table.....

You are MOST welcome Joan... She is home and is taking it pretty easy today. I stopped by to see her just a bit ago. Oh how I love that lady... she is so deeply and sincerely loving herself!!!

Thank you for being such a dear friend to her.

Hello Friends,  I came home from work Friday feeling a little "punk" and it went from bad to worse.  Did a lot of sleeping and looked in here occasionally.  Sorry about not saying anything!  I'm starting to feel somewhat better.  I'll try to be more "here".  I'm so glad to hear that June is better!

Okay, got all the birds in the nest (even if they aren't saying much yet).... hope you feel better soon, Jane. Lots of bugs-germs going around already.  Take care, you know the drill.... "plenty of water".

I also have an owiee today, did something to my middle finger Sunday & it was throbbing by Sunday night, Monday I soaked with epsom salt several times (the antibiotic ointment didn't help at all Sunday), some better today but looks yucky...may have something stuck in where I usually get hang-nails, can't tell 'cause it is bloody & swollen, will soak again after while.

My garage door has been sticking about a third of the way down-up, just enough for me to crawl under but couldn't get the car in so I gave up & called the door company.  I didn't want to have it stick open all night & wouldn't be able to get the car out if it was in, so a necessary fix.  Didn't take him long, trip & hour charge so think it'll just be about $100.  Was afraid it would be worse so just glad it's done.  Last time he was here was 6 years ago so not too bad.

Going to be cool tonight, no frost here but expect the cats will be wanting to sleep inside.  I've been closing them off in the family room & they can go down to the basement if they like.  I get a full night sleep this way.  I feel bad making Callie sleep in the garage but she is not "house broken".... bad enough in the garage.  She uses the litter box most of the time but still thinks she needs to mark her territory & not a good thing!   :-\

Time for me to eat, the cats are not taking to this time change & want to eat earlier.  I don't think I will hold up to hear the last of the election, can't do any more after I voted!

Good night and God Bless Us Everyone.

Good to see your post, JANE.  I do hope you continue to feel better.

JACKIE, so happy you were able to go and enjoy the meal and meeting.  Do hope Toby made it through the night with our more upset.

I need to get to bed, but I am trying to watch the election results.

Sorry to read about your finger, SHIRLEY.  Hope it is much better soon.

My dear, dear, dear, wonderful Soda Shoppe habitues. I am especially pleased to see my beloved Dori popping in and keeping you informed about my medical status.

To clear things up, I was dismissed from the hospital, with the diagnosis of hyponatremia. Meaning that there was too little sodium in my body. The same thing occurred earlier this year, so I was fed sodium into my system with by IV. This time they decided to try salt pills themselves, and to cut my intake of water. The lack of sodium can be fatal if not treated, and miserable when it does fight back.

I am home with the wonderful kind people that care for us here.I did a foolish thing though. On Tuesday when I came home I decided to wash the Hospital out of my hair, and of my skin. Which I did. Then in getting out of the shower I fell half way in the shower and half way out. I must have fainted as I do not recall falling at all. Just came too l laying soaking wet on the floor. My life alert automatically sent a message to the clinic downstarirs, and two Angel nurses arrived, raised me up dried me off and I put on a nice clean night gown, and sat down in my recliner when one nurse stayed to bandage up a couple of bleeding spots on my right leg.I went to bed and slept like the dead. Today has been a healing. I started a message to you all three different times, and someone would be here for one reason or another, and by the time I got back my message had flown the coop.

How I love you all, and how I missed you. I was mostly concerned about our Janies absence, so seeing her post tonight was another healing. Each and every one of you are so dear to me. Jackie I am so sorry that your doggy finally had to let go, and let God. Been there and suffered that with several of our pets. My Petey was the one that really broke my heart. He loved me as your boy loved you. And it sounds like our Hal has one great pup too.

Larry, how long did your sodium problem take to clear up ? I am limited to just 8 cups of water a day. The Nurse here said she would like to see me keep it down to six cups. Elimination of said liquids takes too much salt with it. So we are experimenting.

I did, finally get my ballot filled out and taken down to our polling place here at our Rouwntree gardens. Had my cart with a seat so relaxed in line. Later I went down to the clinic for a bandage change..my Angels are so kind and understanding, so loving, I would like to adopt them all as my children. And these young people work happily for minimum wage. The world is not all crazy and selfish and greedy like most of our politicians.

I had a big lunch delivered to my door, so had the other half of my baked potato stuffed with Chili and all other good stuff, plus carrots, and apricot halves. I didn't even miss my coffee. I have no plans for tomorrow. I'm going to just drift along and be thankful to be a part of the whole big picture. Life is grand and reading all your messages...yes I read every single one of them, and loved it.

Now my eyelids are getting heavy, So I will go brush my teeth, wash my face, and cuddle down in my nice comfortable bed. See you tomorrow dear hearts, I love you all so much, and so does God. Rejoice in our Blessings. :smitten:

SO happy to see your post, June... been so worried because I know nothing about the cause of your condition.  Since I remember "back in the day" when people used to take salt pills.... did they tell you what to do or not do as far as using & eating salt?  Since Cas was on the low sodium diet he had to take iodine pills so I wondered (in here) if having too much salt without the iodine could be part of the problem.  I doubt if Marie Callender's  TV dinners have the type salt with iodine.... same with the fast food places & the canned soup & V8 that I have in my frig.....

I guess we all worry that if it can happen to you, it can happen to us.  I know I eat a lot of the same foods you talk about eating.  Anyway, glad they got you fixed up and wish they had given you a better idea of what, how & why it happened.  So sorry about the fall, hope all your boo-boos are healing.  We sure missed you and agree with your opinion of sweet Dori.  She truly is a jewel, thank her for letting Joan know so she could bring the news to us.

Thanks, Jenny, the finger is better.  I just soaked again & not nearly as yucky looking. What is the latest about your father?  My youngest son called tonight & was talking about "we'd better get our reservations in for the trip to CO soon".  I'm surprised how much he enjoys going.  Hope you & Bob can come visit us one day while we are out there, I expect we'll go in June again.  Too hot  in July & August & the boys both have other things they do .... and those campgrounds close in early Sept. That commercial one is nice but not like being in the woods & waking up with a couple dozen deer strolling through the campsite.

I appreciate the sympathy for my beat up finger, Joan... wish I knew what I did, kind of looks like a little hole in the fingernail by the swelled up part of the skin.  I think I'll live.   ;)   I'm not going to stay up for the final tally.  Right now I can sleep with the way it is going.  God Bless All..... Shirley

CHUCKLES

Someone Else

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.

Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.

Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do.

Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help in your local church this year, remember -- they can't depend on Someone Else anymore. Many hands make little work!

Prayer: Father let me be someone you can count on and not someone else. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Food For Thought

Life Hackers

(By Michael Newnham)

I'm writing this today from a back up computer as I appear to have killed my iMac.

I was up half the night trying to reverse the damage I inflicted, but thus far my efforts have been in vain.

The old war horse was showing some age, so I decided to upgrade it to the newest version of the Mac operating system so I could extend its life and take advantage of some new features.

The problem was that it had been designated as too old to do so by Apple.

No problem, said the hackers, we can do it anyway. Just follow these semi easy steps and it'll be like new.

I followed the steps and it's now unusable.

It's dead and I killed it because I wanted it to be something that it's not.

It was functional and able before, it's neither now...all because I tried to make it something it isn't made to be.

The more I thought about my foolishness, the more I believe this is more than a cautionary tale about hacking your computer.

Some of you are being tinkered with and being pressed into being someone you weren't created to be.

The hackers in your life are the culture, your peers, or maybe someone closer.

Some of you are angry all the time.

Some of you are stressed all the time.

Some of you are in fear all the time.

Some of you are being abused by someone who is trying to break you.

The world, the flesh, and the devil, are conspiring to hack us all into being someone other than we were created to be.

You're showing the signs of a break down...

Before you become unable to function at all, it's time to tell the hackers to step back.

You were created to walk through this world with the joy of the Lord and the peace of his Spirit.

You were created to know His love, trust His provision, and rejoice in His goodness.

That's who you were created to be and how you were made to operate safely and well.

Some of you need to wrest your self from the hands of the hackers and let the Creator restore you to default settings.

You need to do so before the damage is great and the cost excessive.

I'll meet you there when I get this computer fixed...if I can fix it at all.

Make your own application...

Thought of the Day

Don't work for recognition, but do work worthy of recognition.

Good morning to all, I'm going back to bed.  Tom decided to sleep in my bed last night, I knew that was a mistake but didn't have the energy to carry him back to the family room so he could join LaurenKat and Tiger in the basement.  It is cold out so I will probably stay half awake until he shows up back at the door wanting in.

So we have a new president-elect.  I did not expect him to pull it off but am glad it is over. I think I have problems in my little world,  I sure don't envy him the job ahead.

Gooooooood Morning America. Hooray the voting is over and the best candidate did win. Now to find out how the town I live in voted.

JOAN  your housekeepers were mixed up on days because of the voting? My CNA had an appointment Monday so had no help but she was here yesterday for an hour and will be back as normal this morning. Hope it is Jane's computer acting up and that she is OK.

CALLIE  for a change here it was a nice sunny day to vote.

JACKIE  glad you went to the meeting and every thing went good. Hope Toby will be fine today.

JOAN  thanks for sharing Sori's latest message. I pray that June is feeling much better and will post soon.

JANE  good seeing your post. Now to get rid of the “pink” feeling and feel like your energetic self again. You do know how much you are missed when we do not see you.

SHIRLEY  hope the Epsom Salts works it's healing on that finger.

HAL  we got our votes counted.

JUNE  please be careful, no more falling/fainting.

Still nothing on TV about local election outcome, only the bigger cities, not smaller towns. Looks like I will have to go onlne to find out.

JOAN  a scone will be great with my coffee. Love the Someone Else, that is too true. Food for Thought, different way of comparing a computer being hacked and out lives being hacked.  Thank you for all today's goodies.

SHIRLEY  I think we are all happy the voting is over and now we can pray the new President can do as he said he would.

JANE  hope you have a good day at WM.

AMY  good morning.

HAL  looks like you will not have to move to Canada.

Have an appointment with a new doctor this afternoon. Sure hope this one will listen to me.

Good morning,  Joan and all the early friends.  It is a pretty bleak looking day beginning outside.  Supposed to have some rain and then get colder over the week end.  Yesterday was a perfect "spring" day.  It was just beautiful.

A scone will be good this morning.  Something different with my tea and fruit this morning.

Joan, I think maybe a nap is in for both of us later today. I stayed up until after 3 a.m. also,  watching the returns.  I had set the timer on my tv,  just in case that I fell asleep, but I did manage to stay awake.  And, I was awake again at 7 a.m.

Hal, I did just message a friend asking her when all the mass exits to Canada would begin.  LOL

I just hope that we can all get back to a normal-type of life now and let all the people who matter get our country straightened out.  I think we have to have a positive feeling for our nation's future.

Glad to know that June is on the mend.

Hope everyone will have a good day.

Joy

It was so good to hear from June and know she's home.  No more falls, June.  At our ages we have to be more careful than those younger than we are.

I really did not care who won the election and I stayed up until 11 pm to see how things went.  I only wished we had better candidates.

Hi everyone.  It is another overcast morning and now 55 degrees.  We should get to 73 in the middle of the afternoon.  The schedule is light today with only the Wednesday night dinner at the church and then getting to spend the rest of the evening with Scott.  After Pat's chiropractic appointment late yesterday afternoon we went on to Pizza Hut and had our evening meal.

It was a long night and I stayed with it until about 1:30 pm and then turned off the TV.  When Pat came to bed she told me that Trump had won and the Congress stayed in the hands of the Republicans.  I just hope and pray he will be a good President.

Gloria, I have a feeling that everyone is happy this Presidential season is over and that things are not in doubt as we have known in the past.

Jackie, sorry that Toby's sick spell has increased your anxiety.  I hope he is ok today.  Glad you got to attend your meeting.

JaneS, I sure hope today finds you feeling much better.  You can see you were missed.

Shirley, those garage doors can be very frustrating.  We already had to have one of the two openers we have replaced.  Fortunately, the door are not heavy so can be raised or lowered without difficulty if the opener stops working.

June, good to see your posting but a bit alarming that you had the fall.  Thank goodness for the alert system you have.  The sodium problem I had was taken care of by IV's for about 24 hours.  I had experienced the almost total loss of appetite and felt very tired and it was affecting my mind.  My cardiologist has asked me to reduce my fluid intake to between 32 and 64 ounces a day as that creates less stress on my heart and should also not flush out as much sodium.  I will get another reading on it later this month when I see my Internist and have blood tests.  However, I will certainly recognize the symptoms as I always have a good appetite.  One of the caridologists I had when I was last in the hospital told me I needed to eat more salt, which he said he seldom told anyone.  However, I don't consciously do that as have never acquired a taste for salt.

Amy, what is a camp quilt?

Thank you all for your postings.  Now I need to get busy and thaw out some fruit and make my frozen fruit cups.  I also want to make some coleslaw that will go with the baby-back ribs that we cooked a couple of days ago so Pat will have a good supper.

Okay, just got to post this link & let everyone join what my friend started this morning.  Can't get it out of my head..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13wd8KvOt58 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13wd8KvOt58)     I was surprised & hadn't thought of the tune for years so did a Google..... Smiles for all

Hal, sincere sympathy for that shot in the tummy, know it is to make you better but can't help wonder why that pick that spot to put a needle in.

Larry, I always feel you know/research issues so just curious if you didn't have to take iodine pills.  Cas did measure his liquids & if coffee or anything, he would use the container to pour equal amount of water into a large bottle so he didn't have to guess the amount every day.  Interesting the difference in doctors & treatments across the US & I always feel better knowing I can come in here to ask anything & get answers.

So, it's Trump.  I fully expect the next weeks and months to be anything but boring.

One of my emergency trips to the hospital was because of dangerously low sodium levels.  The previous trip there had resulted in a prescription for a diuretic and it was decided that was washing the sodium out.  So that prescription was canceled.  Since then, without any particular attention to my diet, the levels have stayed within what is considered "safe".

Paul Ryan just said it, the big winner in this race was the Constitution.
We now have a government who will follow it.........

Shirley, they shot I get in the tummy is actually a seed that last for three months.  He was a little slow putting it in this morning so it hurt.

Back from my Urologist hospital app,...so far so good, basically just a consultation and a few prods here and there checking out my kidneys and other things, but no internal but....I will be called back in for a Cystoscopy ( camera ) urethra internal under local anaesthetic, told it should take ten minutes....this should be in two to three weeks time...

My morning errand excursion ended up longer than I'd expected.  I met up with a friend, and we went and had breakfast.  Seems we have different feelings about the election results--"whatever floats each voter's boat".

Good morning.

Today we all move forward without any more of the awful campaign commercials. For that I am very thankful.

JACKIE, it appears you are still in the wait mode, but at least you have the cystoscopey scheduled.

HAL, I, too, share thoughts and prayers for you as you go through your treatments.

Yesterday we went out to one of the local casinos, and dad did very well.  He was happy to be getting out and about and I think it was good for him.  All the talk about the issues with seniors regarding low sodium, etc. is concerning.  If it is that common, they why aren't the docs making us more aware of?

JUNE, I am sorry to hear about your fall...thank God your medical angels are there to get you help right away.  Once again, I am so thankful that you did not hurt yourself any worse than you did.  HUGS to you my dear friend.

My big concern here in this house is all the room and runner rugs.  I have expressed this issue with dad and Diane....dad wants them gone, but Diane doesn't and in addition to that she does not seem interested at all in removing them!  VERY CONCERNING!  Diane has terrible balance issues and falls a LOT, so she surely should be able to understand how dangerous the rugs are.  I have balance issues and the unevenness with the rugs is a big problem for me.

JOAN, I do not think I would want to be out and about this morning knowing that many if not all are expressing their feelings about the election results.  It has been pretty brutal on Face Book!

I am the outsider here and have just kept my trap shut......but the lady of the house has not and she is very vocal.  Love the goodies today and thank you very much.

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND.

Jenny

Tisie, dear friend, thank you so much for you caring, and thank you for your kind remarks about my Dori..she is one of a kind for sure. She not only does Christian speaking engagements  across the U.S., she councils unwed pregnant girls, and teaches in her Church. And loves me !
I don't know what caused my body to start losing sodium, I have always loved and used iodized salt in my cooking and on the table, but we all eventually develop something, and this was my turn for something. I am content.

Janie, it is SO good to be reading your posts again. I missed you so. At 7:30 this morning I wakened to a light tapping on my door, so I called "come in", and one of the nurses from downstairs was just "checking" on me, and said she wanted me to be sure to come down today to have my leg checked out. They worry about infections so catch them before they take over. I slept like the dead last night, and feel so refreshed today. Thanks be to our God !!

Amy, believe me girl, I am cautious as never before. I am under a rule from the clinic. I do NOT take a shower till I call them as they want someone sitting outside while I do my ablutions.Better safe that sorry, I guess.

Hal, I feel your joy in the results that gave us Trump as a new President. I was proud of Hilary's message this morning. She was gracious in her speech, when she must have been hurting inside. But she has had a lot of practice in deceit. I pray for Trump to give us back what we had. Does getting an injection into your stomach painful ? I hope not.Believe me dear friend. if I could avoid falls I would . In this case I was seated on my shower stool, and woke up on the floor, Had no control, so I assume no blame.

My Gloria…I too hope you have found the proper doctor. Just be frankly honest and let him/her know right away what you just said, about hoping he will be a Listener.  To let this person KNOW your needs, listens and acts. Prayers for you dear.

Mary Ann, I too feel that we needed a more dignified person in the oval office, so I just chose the one I disliked the less, and cast my ballot. Believe me girl, I'm doing my best to keep well, my new mantra is "You are 92 years of age, act like it."

Phyllis, thanks my friend. I know I am an old lady that needs care, in spite of the person inside that still wants to dance.

Larry, your ailment sure echos mine. I am allowed 8 cups (I prefer using my home-makers measurement, rather than the Liters), but my Nurse is hoping I will lower  that to 6 cups so I am trying to do so. So far, pretty well.

Jenny girl…..thank you ! I felt that warm hug !! Glad your Dad had a good time. That is good medicine.

Oh dear, my cookies didn't get done.....maybe tomorrow. Hubby wanted to go to the city, we met up with daughter in love and had a Chinese buffet. I went to a quilt shop to see if they had the green I needed for an Irish Chain quilt and they did!!!

Larry, these are quilts for kids with cancer that get to go to camp. Twice a year the camp is held and we give them quilts for the kids.

Jane, I am with you on the tuckered bit......I had thought of cutting some fabric but I need my wits about me.....and well...they are already napping :)

Janie--You haven't been feeling well so going to work most likely wiped you out.  I hope you can get a GOOD nap.

June--They sure do take good care of you there at Rowntree.

Amy--I am sure your husband likes to get out.  Nice you can meet up with daughter-in-love, have lunch and shop a bit.  The cookies can wait until another day.

June, yes the shots are a little painful, but the pain is only for a short duration while he is giving me the shot and then it is over and done with for three more months. But the part my wife likes is that they cause me to have "hot flashes" like you ladies have.  She says now you know what we go through. June, I was just rattling your chain about falling, I know you didn't do it on purpose (did you?).  Just be sure to always sit when you are in the shower.

Janie, it is concerning that you seemed to be dragging here lately, maybe you need to pay visit to your doctor and have a chat with him.  You normally have such a high energy level and always on the go.

Amy, don't listen to Joanie, you need to get those cookies made and in the hidey hole.   I will protect them there......snicker, snicker.....

Bis, they take ultra care of us here. I just had a knock on the door and it was a nurse, just checking in. Our Quaker Chaplain and his wife called a bit earlier, to visit, and that was a treat, then he said a prayer for me...lovely !!!!!! Believe me Bis, they give care here, both for the outside person and the inner person. I feel so very fortunate.

My daughter sent me the following that was posted on Facebook by someone she knows.  I thought it might be pertinent to share it with my friends.  I found it to be a good thought to live with right now.

"Between the time I went to bed last night I have both cried and been sick to my stomach. But today I am up, I am at work, and I will spend time today with some beautiful people working on things that are Good. We are still Americans. Despite what has passed in this incomprehensible election, we still must get up each day and as John Wesley said: "Do all the good we can, by all the means we can, in all the ways we can, in all the places we can, at all the times we can, for all the people we can, as long as ever we can.” God Bless and Protect the United States of America."

I don't think it matters how you voted or what you think of either of the candidates, this is what we must do now.  Especially, we must ask God to Bless and Protect our country.

I am once again ready for bed so I sill retire. Oops, a knock on the door, a nurse is here to take my blood pressure. Whoopee !!!!!!! I usually run in the 160 area, and recently it went below a hundred, and that worried me. tonight it was 120, so I will say another prayer in Thanksgiving and sleep like a baby. God is so good. And I pray you all too will be relieved of your concerns and ailments, and have a peaceful sleep. I love you. You are all a special gift of God. HUGS. June

CHUCKLES

Driven to Distraction

I was driving to the office one morning, when I got a phone call from my boss. "You've been promoted" he said, and I was so surprised that I swerved.

A few minutes later, I got another call. "You've been given a raise." I was so excited that I swerved again.

Later I got a third call. "You've been made CEO." And I swerved again and ran into a tree.

As I was waiting there, I saw a policeman. "what happened?" he asked. "I careered off the road."

Good morning everyone, was worn out when I got home yesterday. I went to bed even before the new was over at 7pm. It is now 3:30am. Wow the new doctor does not let the grass grow under her feet. Not long after I got home I got a call from the MRI place checking on my medical insurance. She had already called them. Also have referral to a pain specialist. No
“I will look into it” and then never doing anything. After years of doctors doing nothing I sure hope I do get the help I need. Glad I have a different medical plan, too. This one has already given me a lifeline and will get a new rollator. I bought the one I have and the brakes no longer work on it.  That is frightening at times. The ramp at the new doctor's building is not steep but long. I was worried about going down it when I left but did OK without brakes.  There will me no more sitting on the porch  unless one sits on the benches. They brought the wicker rockers and cushions in yesterday. Porch looks bare without them.

JOY  it was cloudy all day here but rain held off till late afternoon.

MARY ANN  I was happy with the outcome of the election but did not stay up to watch. I really did not like either one but sure did not trust Hillary at all.

PHYLLIS  I wish there was a place here like where June is living but it would be more than I could afford.

LARRY  all we can do now is pray that Trump is a good man for us in the Whitehouse. It will be good to watch TV again without all the talk about either candidate. Way too much slader from both of them instead of getting down to what really mattered.

SHIRLEY  that link was meant for all the Republicans yesterday. Oh course in this state, it had been democrats for many years now so many were not happy.

JEANNE LEE  I must be doing Ok with sodium because I never had a doctor say anything.

HAL  those who wrote our Constitution gave their all for this country.  Sure pray that Trump and the rest of the Republicans now read it and follow our Forefathers.

JACKIE  I hope with your next appointment they find a way to help you.

JOAN  we Americans do have a choice electing those who will rung the USA. Other countries do not have that.

JENNY  my thoughts are like yours about the sodium. First time I heard of someone getting the sodium IV was my FIL about 40 years ago. They had him on a salt free diet and that ended with him in the hospital for the IV. I will not have any scatter rugs in here, I know too many who have fallen because of them. What little I watched of the news last evening I was disgusted to see so many crying because their candidate lost. One day we might have a woman president but sure hope she will be honest and trustworthy.

JANE  I hope the nap yesterday restored your energy level.

JUNE  for the first time I have a woman doctor and she is already doing something. Most of the time I will be seeing her NP-nurse practitioner. Met her yesterday, too. Both very nice and caring ladies.

AMY  been years since I went to a Chinese buffet. I sure like the way they fix shrimp and many other things, too.

HAL  oh yes, you will protect Amy's homemade cookies by hiding them for yourself. We know what you would do with them, fill your tummy with every one. As for those hot flashes â€" Suffer with them! You will not get sympathy from the ladies here.

AMY  love oatmeal cookies. A couple of those and a glass of cold milk-yummy.

JUNE  I am so happy that you moved to Rowntree, the care you get there and being close to Gary and Dori makes your life much better.

JANE  wonderful post your daughter sent you. If only everyone would read that and pay attention to it we would all benefit from the wisdom.

JOAN  Ahh now breakfast this morning is just what I need, cinnamon swirl anything will hit the spot. Chuckles-guess it does not pay to get good news when you are driving. I just copied Gardening God's Way. I will be sending that one on along with Thought of the Day. Thank you for all today's goodies. Think I will go see if I can find some ZZZ's on the couch.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The voting is over and now it's time for the gloating to end also.  We're Americans and we need to do what we always do after an election...get behind our President and act like Americans...not Democrats or Republicans.  If we need to do that, we have a political forum.

Good morning!  Well said, Jane!  I have made it a very long practice of NEVER discussing politics or religion with anyone.  However, I will say only this.  This wonderful country is strong, its people (all races and beliefs) are strong, and we have survived all kinds of presidents, and leaders, for more than 240 years.  We will continue to survive, love our country, and be strong.

June, it is such a relief to your family, and that family includes us here, to have you living in a good place that shows care and concern for every one there.  I'm so happy for you to have that kind of loving concern.

Gloria, my Rollator brakes have failed, too.  I have learned to be very careful when going up or down on uneven ground.

Jennie, I wish you could convince the "lady of the house" that it would be so much safer if all the throw rugs are removed.  I know how concerning it is to you.  If only she would just try it!  I think she would very quickly get used to the bare floors and it would be so much safer for your Dad....and for her and any visitors, too. Perhaps she will understand the good sense of it soon.

You'd better watch out, Hal!  The cookie monster  will get you if you swipe all of those oatmeal cookies in the hidey hole.

Amy, it sounds as though your husband is making a good recovery from his surgery and I'm pleased for you both.

Good morning, Joan.  The cinnamon swirl coffee cake is just perfect for me this morning. Thanks for getting up so early and baking it for us.   :smitten:

Good MOrning Everyone!

I feel so un-loved and not trusted.  That you cant trust me with oatmeal cookies, guess I might as well get rid of this bottle of milk...... :D

I have bible study and breakfast with my men's group this morning.  Kinda anxious to see what they have to say about events of this week.

Gloria, happy that you are getting a new walker.  In the meantime if you feel the old one getting away from you, turn it loose and let it roll by itself and you just stand there, don't try running after it.
I hope the pain doctor can help you.  Sometimes they do work miracles and sometimes not.  Mine ask me if I would take some narcotics (opiates) and I said so long as I don't sit around and drool like I have seen some do with them.  Anyhow, I think I told you I am scheduled for some shots in the back in December to see if they will help.  They put you out for those so no pain in getting them.  It will get my Daughter (the RN) and my doctor off my back (no pun intended).

It is a little chilly this morning, but will warm up later.  Stayed on the cool side all day yesterday.  Rained lightly most of the morning and then stayed very cloudy and dark all afternoon.

Short story.  We had a road most used as a short cut to a major road that they closed for most of the last six months or so.  We all thought, great they are going to fix the low water crossing that floods when it rains heavily.  They finally opened it back up a couple of weeks ago and we were all puzzled at the configuration of their work and lo and behold yesterday they had barricades back up stopping us from using it.  My SIL and I couldn't figure it out, so I posted an inquiry in our neighborhood news email.  Well, all that time closed and construction was for:  TADAH.........a bike underpass for a new bike trail.  And government and money is like oil and water.  They just don't mix. Everyone

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning, halkel.  Ha--guess you had to just drink milk because Amy didn't yet bake the cookies.  That story about the road sounds like something they'd do around here.

A very Good Morning to all. Had a good nights sleep with no one waking me for a B.P. check. And made myself half a cup of instant Folgers this morning. I did so well with the six cups of allowed water yesterday, I am learning how I can use it to my advantage now. The hospital said I could have 8 cups, but my Nurse here at Rowntree saked me to try for six cups. Less water, less loss of sodium.

Bis, the author of Gardening God's way, has a good command of the use of the English language. That was very enjoyable. Thanks.

Phyllis, Yes,my family can live their own lives and I have the freedom to live mine, in a loving place. It is such a blessing. Believe me, I appreciate it to the utmost. I never dreamed there could be a place like this, run by truly caring, Godly people.

Gloria, I am rejoicing that you have a likable Dr. now. I always wanted a male doctor, but have a woman now, and I really like her. She is a friend as well as a doctor.  I am shocked that your rollator has no brakes. That is a real hazard. As suggested, if it runs away, don't follow it…it is not worth a bad fall.

Hal, don't be sad, we all love you, and I will share half of my cookies with you…..and not even charge you for them.

Sandy, I am so very happy for you in the recovery you have had from your stroke. You sound so happy too,and I know your family rejoices.  Keep going girl.

Time for me to eat some breakfast, I will share my quota of liquid by eating only the necessary amount on my cereal………

Thank you so much June.. I am very lucky to have been a victim of strokes,  but did manage to retain most of my faculties!

What I miss the most of course is what I lost and that was my vision in one eye,  and half my vision in the other.    But I can still see looking forward.    And for that I am very blessed.

You are doing an awesome job June..
Bless you.

Amy--Thanks for all those goodies.  I'll get something from the hidey hole for my dessert after lunch.

June--You're doing good with your fluid intake.  They certainly take good care of you at Rowntree.

Sandy--I know loss of eyesight is not easy.  My mother couldn't see at all as her macular degeneration progressed.  And now my sister has it--no sight in one eye and fuzzy in the other.

Sandy, thank you ! Your good thoughts are so appreciated. Vision is such a wondrous thing to have, so I am thankful you can do as well as you do with your limitations. You are an inspiration. And you don't give up or give in. Keep going girl !!!

Hi everyone.  The sun is shining brightly with a clear sky this morning.  It is currently about 48 degrees here and will only get up to about 70 degrees this afternoon. I plan on going to coffee this morning and making a stop at the Credit Union either before or after.  Our minister couldn't be at the church this morning so will not be attending the Wisdom group as I normally do on Thursdays.  We had an enjoyable evening with Scott.  He came out an hour or so before we needed to go to dinner so had a little extra time with him.

I had too many little chores to do this morning so just going to check in for today and write no individual comments.  Hope it is a nice day for you all.

Gloria, I read back over posts again to find where I'd read last & was surprised by your comment, "SHIRLEY  that link was meant for all the Republicans yesterday"...   I honestly had not considered it as "political" but as one of the Sophia moments where she would say, "picture it...."   If the image in my head had been a Democrat friend doing the happy dance to a tune I hadn't thought of in 50 years, I would have thought it just as funny.

I really am sorry if anyone that voted for other than Trump, took offence, I did not intend it that way.  I would never crow or say anything to insult or hurt feelings,  I was/am glad the election was over.  I thought Hillary's speech was gracious and thought she and President Obama have been dignified with their actions since the end of the election.  My sincere apology if anyone else took my link as anything but a funny image of an 82 year old doing a happy dance by herself.

My headache is back & I need to stay away from the computer to see if the light is what causes them.  Don't worry, I'm fine, just need to try to eliminate every day things I do that might be causing them.  I will peek in to see how everyone is doing but as y'all know, it takes longer to take notes & comment..... be good!   Shirley

Tisie, I am so sorry you are having trouble with your eyes. I read somewhere that if we spend a lot of time on the computer we should look 'up and out' to the distance occasionally. I guess it uses different eye muscles or something. I do look forward to your posts..they are always interesting.

A nurse just came in and took my blood pressure. It is acting up again. 176, and for some odd reason it had dropped below a hundred, then later up to 102 ..... no one has answers for that. I have no idea what my normal pressure is...it has alway fluctuated back and forth.

It is almost eight o'clock so many of you good people are already snuggled down in your beds. Sleep well dear hearts, God is watching over you. I send you my Love and Prayers. June

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend, on this Veteran's Day.  Let us all take time to thank our Veterans--those who have served, those who are now serving and those who gave their life fighting for our country.   There's bagels and cream cheese to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

Need A Lift?

As a concierge at a posh resort, I was often asked about the ski facilities. One day a couple who had just checked in after a long flight came by and asked me where the lift was.

"Go down the hill," I told them, "out the door, past the pool, 200 yards down the block, and you'll see it on your right."

Their tired faces suddenly looked even more exhausted, until the man behind them spoke up. "They're folks are from England," he said. "I think they're looking for the elevator."

Food For Thought

The Peace of Christ

By Sergei Sosedkin
Scripture Reading: Colossian 3:12-17

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts . . . as members of one body. . . . And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15
My grandmother was one of the most peaceful and thankful persons I’ve ever met. As a young boy, I often took her cheerful personality for granted. Looking back on her life, though, I cannot help wondering how she managed to escape bitterness and resentment.
Her younger years on a farm in Russia were tough. In her teens she endured the war, Nazi occupation, hunger, hard labor, and suffering. Later, after moving to a city, she was injured in a work-related accident and lost the use of her right hand. Even so, she remained cheerful and thankful to the very end. How can this be?
There’s an answer in today’s passage. The apostle Paul talks about the Christian calling to peace and thanksgiving. For him, these attitudes did not depend on happy life experiences or special training. Peace and thanksgiving come through Christ alone.
When Christ’s peace rules in our hearts, it changes us and our perspective on the world. It gives us strength to meet our challenges with grace and ¬humility. And no matter whatâ€"we are called to be thankful.
I’m convinced that my grandmother had the peace of Christ in her heart. Each of us can experience this peace too, if we humble ourselves before God.
Do you have this peace?
Heavenly Father, help us to humble ourselves and receive the peace of Christ. Teach us how to reflect your peace in this world with grace and thanksgiving. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good morning everyone, it sure does get me tired when I go out these days. I was asleep by 8 last night again. How about those who lost the election carrying on and having demonstrations yesterday. There was one in our statehouse here yesterday.  Crazy.

JOAN  this new doctor is not one to procrastinate. I got a call yesterday from the MRI place and have an appointment for next week already.  After that she has me lined up for a pain clinic. Big difference from me almost begging the doctor I left for something.

LLOYD  many people did not like it when Obama was elected but did not have demonstrations after he was elected but didn't carry on like many did yesterday. Stupid, really.

JANE  your comment yesterday is true. Time to put our trust in the new President. Only time will tell what the outcome will be. I love it and have no desire to move out of our USA.

AMY  it was beautiful here yesterday, I went outside a couple of times and walked around the parking lot. Temperature was perfect for that.

PHYLLIS  like you I do not talk about politics or religion. We all have our beliefs and do not have to try and get others to believe like we do. I will be getting a new rollator but this time Medicare will pay for it. I was surprised when I moved here that the others with rollators did not buy theirs like I did. I learn more every day about what some get that Medicare pays for. When I go and sit on the porch I get my rollator backed against the railing so I know it will not move. My brakes have been gone for 2 years now.

HAL  sure we trust you with the oatmeal cookies-you would leave us a few crumbs if we are lucky. Funny man, as if I could run after my rollator or anything else these days. I do not want to discourage you but I did have shots in my back several times and they did nothing for me. The doctor wanted me to get them every month. I had read and heard so many times that those shots should only be given 2 or 3 times a year. Seems like the stuff they use can weaken the bones. Sure do not want that. I was awake when I had the shots in my back. Then was told to go home and lay sown with an icepack on my back. Heck by the time I went up those stairs I think the shot was already worn out. I do love the way they fix roads here, too. Half way done and that's it. Bridges in this state are so bad that the government is making the state finally repair them.

AMY  now you know I would have to have a sample of every thing you put in the hidey hole. I like all that you baked. I really miss being able to cook and bake like I used to.

JUNE  no fear of me running, can hardly take a few steps without the rollator.

SANDY  there are 2 ladies here who  had strokes, one is confined to a wheelchair and the other has no use of her left side. She does great for herself and goes out most every day. She does not drive but has friends that come for her. My Mother was almost blind but her eyesight went because of diabetes. She was a lady who loved to read the newspaper and missed being able to do that anymore.

SHIRLEY  guess I thought of it the way I did because of the long drawn out companying we endured. I am content with the way the voting turned out. I never liked Hillary. Well if you are taking time away from your PC at least say hello so we know you are OK. Do you need glasses?

JANE  in my nightly prayers I always ask God to help our country and keep it strong.

JOAN  my daughter and I were talking about family members who fought for our freedom and thanked God they all made it home safe with only one being wounded. If he had not been sent back to the States he might have been in the D-day invasion. Love a toasted bagel and cream cheese. Good chuckles, another example of one word meaning something different in other countries. Food for Thought is the proof of loving God to see us through the hard times. Thank you for today's goodies.

Mid day yesterday we went over to the MS day centre where we timed it to have a lunch....I took a few items for their inside run charity shop, said hello to a handful of people, staff and MS'sers, still not an actual member yet as my MS card hasn't been swapped over, they are dealing with this for me...dont quite understand this swapping over really, just going with the flow.....Around our dining table there was some sort of problem going on, cant say too much as neither myself nor R quite got the gist of things, so dont know all the facts.....Just something to do with a lady MS'ser in a wheelchair sitting opposite, think at one point she may have had her, or a, carer with her, where at some point their was an unfortunate incident where this lady literally had her dinner plate whipped from underneath her, not too sure of the facts but, talk from someone on my table said someone had put in a complaint, something about the carers insurance wouldn't allow her to feed this lady, not sure but, talk of if she was to choke...So this poor lady was going, or would have gone hungry with no dinner, if it hadn't of been for an MSs,er man I got talking with had offered on taking over spoon-feeding here some pudding, not sure how or why he could do it when the carer couldn't, maybe the carer, or the complainer had left the premises...Talk about bureaucracy gone crazy....

Good morning everyone
The sound of the wind woke me up, hope it dies down soon.

Gloria, I don't do near the baking now that I once did on the farm. Times sure have changed our eating habits.Great that you now have a Dr. that not only listens to you but makes things happen too!!!

Jane , we have that wind here too and yes it sure makes it feel colder..hubby calls this a lazy wind........rather go through you than around you!!

Touching up on what didn't get done yesterday, I finally got Babes nails cut...after I gave her a pill to chill out. Makes my job much easier with no fighting to do them.

Joan,my hubby loves bagels and cream cheese......thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Jackie-Vanilla.  I feel sorry for that lady who needed to be fed.  The incident must have upset her.

Amy--Good morning.  It's chilly here (for us).  Checked the temp, and it's 59° at my house.  No "lazy wind" here today.

The sun is coming up bright and cheerful.  It's chilly but that is the way it is supposed to be this time of year and it will warm up a little during the day.  Just right for me.  I love the Fall!

I don't bake much of anything these days, Amy, and I really miss the smell and taste of fresh baked bread.  I'm lucky to have several good bakeries not far from me where I can buy good bread but still, it isn't the same.

Gloria, I believe I fixed the brakes on my Rollator.  I took several thick and strong rubber bands and wrapped them around each of the brakes where they touch the wheels.  It works now just fine and though I know the rubber bands will need to be replaced fairly often I have LOTS of rubber bands.  I knew there had to be a reason that I collected all of them in a kitchen drawer!   ::)

I keep thinking about fresh baked bread.  I just may pull out the bread machine and let it do the kneading for me since that is what is hard for me now and then stick the loaf in the oven just to have that wonderful aroma throughout the house.  Thanks for bringing up the baking subject, Amy.

Enjoy this beautiful day, Everyone.

Lloyd--Good morning.  If you decide to make bread, please put some in the "hidey hole".

Good morning from the dark and cold Interior! And Happy Veteran's Day to all of our soldiers and those of other countries that worked and bled to keep their countries free! We are having a cornbread and chili feed at noon today with the menu decided by the veterans among us in the building; it should be a good time for all. Then there is the large Thanksgiving meal here in a few days time. The company is providing several turkeys and hams, coffee and the cookers, utensils, paper goods, etc. and the residents will provide the rest. There is also a sign-up sheet for those seniors wishing for a food box of Thanksgiving day meal delivered so all should be represented.

Farrah has completely settled in. She has become both athletic and verbal.Yesterday she leapt four feet up to a counter and then looked at me like I was the one questioning her ability and she hadn't spent some minutes estimating and plotting her course. She also will come up and make questioning sounds to me, and I wish I knew what she was saying. I had three friends over for coffee one day, and she went over to one, sat at her feet and directed her questions to her. My friend looked over at me and asked what she wanted.I said I wished I knew! She is confounding because she doesn't like wet or canned food which is what the vet recommended and eats only about a three-fourths cup of dry daily. She seems interested in people food until it's offered and then she turns her nose up at it, including tuna!

I recently purchased a small indoor-outdoor vacuum as I can no longer deal with the belts in my old vacuum cleaner. I have the same issue with my printer, needing to take it down to the office to have them do any necessary printer maintenance. However, when does that become less of a favor and more of an imposition? I hate not being able to do so many seemingly simple things anymore!

I've thought about buying both a pressure cooker and a bread machine lately. Does anyone have any advice or comments about using a bread machine or if it's a worthy purchase?

Hi everyone.  It looks like we will be having a mixture of sun and clouds today with it getting up to about 73 degrees on this Veteran's Day.  There is a wildfire advisory out due to the lack of rain during the last month and unusually low humidity of 15 to 25%.  I woke up at 5:30 this morning, laid there awhile and realized I wasn't going to fall back asleep so picked up my iPhone and started readings for today, including the discussion boards.

Pat has a Chiropractic appointment late this morning and I will go over to COSTCO to pick up my glasses and get a couple of things for lunch tomorrow, when we will have two friends visiting for the day and we decided to have lunch here rather than to go out.  I will get some of the delicious chicken salad and croissants and something for dessert.  Not sure what else Pat will want me to fix for the meal.  We may eat out at noon after Pat's appointment this morning.

We have been enjoying watching a new Netflix series called "The Crown" that is about the early years of Queen Elizabeth's life and assuming the throne.

Joan, I thought I had posted here yesterday as I prepared it and then ran out of time and hit the post button but didn't wait to see if someone else had posted while I was writing.

Patricia, thanks for re-posting what I had written in Norm's B&T discussion.  It would have been exactly that with a few individual comments.

Shirley, hope you awoke without the headache today.  they sort of remove the joy from the day.

Gloria, glad to see you were happy with your new doctor and her prompt action to get things scheduled for you.

June, so good to see your uplifting postings again.  I do hope you are feeling much better.

Jackie, your experience at the MS center yesterday and the lady not being fed is terrible.  That is a strange experience.

Amy, I like your husband's comment about the lazy wind.  I have never heard that expression before.

Phyllis, I don't see any bakeries around here that sell break outside of the grocery stores.  We do have a couple of cupcake/cookies places and they seem to be quite popular.  Cleaver idea to use the rubber bands to fix your brakes.

Good Morning Everyone!!

It is a chilly morning here today.  Got my old sweater out and will use it this morning.

Not much on the schedule here today, have a day off.  Although I am about caught up on appointments, thank goodness.

Jackie, that is something about the lady that needs feeding.  Wonder why they have a caretaker if they cant take care of her needs  It was great the man took things into his hands.

Gloria, it is great that you now have a doctor who acts on your needs and not just blows you off.  I too have had shots in my back, both awake and being put to sleep.  And like you they didn't do much good.  But my daughter and doctor both insist I try one more time.  The doctor told me try two shots and if they don't help call me back and he will see about something else.  I am no sure I will let them cut on me.

Those demonstrators are mostly paid demonstrators, it didn't take long for them to hit the streets, almost as soon as the results were announced.  http://www.infowars.com/video-high-school-girl-viciously-attacked-for-supporting-donald-trump/ (http://www.infowars.com/video-high-school-girl-viciously-attacked-for-supporting-donald-trump/)  I have to ask who is showing the hate, Trump supporters or Hillary supporters?

I hope, wish, the media would ignore them, but they wont.

Good morning, angelface.  You're going to have some nice meals there.  I love chili--no cornbread.  Farrah sure is a character--keeps you guessing.

Larry--Good morning.  There's wildfires here, too.  We have had only a few drizzles of rain since the hurricane.  I can get pretty good bakery bread in the Publix bakery.  Enjoy your visiting friends tomorrow.

Good morning, halkel.  I do hope those shots in your back help.

As far as I was aware, this lady never kicked up any fuss, although at one point she did move from the table to the food counter but I wasnt aware at the time, nor of any conversation that took place....In fact she had a bit of fun at our table telling the couple of MS guys sitting near to her to behave themselves when the pair of them became a couple of comedy characters, a bit like the Morcambe and Wise comedy duo....both done a bit of ribbing at each other...this lady saw the funny side and had a smile on her face...even I joined in over their comedy antics across the table, although me and her never actually spoke to each other, just smiled at each other...Yes I agree, what a terrible way to treat someone, and to think, one day it may be possible I could be this lady...Have to admit, I felt rather uncomfortable with all round the table eating while this lady was sitting and watching us with no plate in front of her, the room was quite full...and thinking this lady is going to go hungry for the day....I would be inquisitive to know what the full story was.....In hindsight there was another MS lady being spoon fed at the other end of the table....and possibly sure there may have been others in this room at the other two tables...I know there was one with her lovely care worker at the back of me, as I had already spoken to her because I recognised her from our table last time I wa there, 3-4 weeks ago, so I made a beeline to go speak to her...the care'er that is.....

Joan all I could make out was that someone had reported her, dont know whether staff, her care'er, or another MS'er...I was just relying on the MS man sitting alongside of me in what he was telling me, which was in earshot of this lady, well it was when she came back to our table....Have no Idea whether this has gone on before, or a one off...
Just that I was told she had already started to eat, when her plate was taken away...I just couldn't believe that had happened.....both myself and R were left totally dumbstruck....how cruel....

Good Morning Everyone,
from the partially sunny,  and cool,
rocky coast of Maine.

Happy Veterans Day,  Everyone...
I didn't realize that it was a special
day,  until I saw the parade that went
by my Windows to the world.   It was
a pretty good size parade,  because this
year the weather has been conducive
to people out and walking about.  So I
opened all my windows and enjoyed the
parade.

I know that it seems like things
are a bit slow in here...  But I blame
it on us being  in between seasons so
when the big holdays come along,
people will begin to be more communicative.

I am also spending time now playing
catch up on the videos on NetFlix,  CBSAllAccess, and Amazon...     There
are a mess of tv series that I will be
watching and paying attention to,
as I am still trying desperately to
wean my self off from cable TV.

Trying to go from cable to just streaming shows is not an easy process for me.
For one thing,  to do so successfully,  I  have to pay strick attention to organizing my viewing time  with streaming sites that are available to me.     The benefit will ultimately
be a much lower monthly cost,  while I
realize that I am making good use of the
streaming channels of my choice.

I kind of compare it to my choice not
to own any more animals  (ie cats)...
and for me it meant getting use to not having
cats in my presence...    I am doing ok
with that  so I will be working on simply
unplugging my cable  and making do with
what I else I have available.     If I can make it
through a couple of weeks WITH OUT,  then
I will consider pulling the plug permanently.

Ok.. so that is what I am up to now.

You all have a good day.
Sandy

The " eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month " of 1918......The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations, and coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, public holidays....I am ashamed to say I went to have a wash at 10.15am with the intentions of watching it on our tv, 45 mins later, and standing to attention of " God Save Our Queen..." only I got distracted and completely forgot, and ashamed to say, six hours later when it came on our tv news to remind me....that I had missed it.... R was doing his shop, and I know it comes over the supermarkets loudspeaker where everyone stops for the two minutes silence...Now strangely if he was at home, R doesn't stand to our Anthem... ::)

Good afternoon, very windy, but sunny cool Fall afternoon.
Yesterday I wrote a long post, and then pushed the wrong key, and it went puff!.

Gloria, I am happy you like your new doctor. When I went to the orthopedic doctor a few years ago for my back, he sent me to Pain Management I was told I could get the shot in my back every 3 months. That i did for almost a year, it would last about 1 month. Finally he said they would try 5 shots across my back, which did last about a couple of months. I always came too in the recovery room, and got a drink and cookies. I have spinal spondylolis . Now Monday I have and appointment with and orthopedic doctor about my hip and leg pain.

Joan, I enjoyed that story about the lift.

Larry, I also lost my post yesterday. Enjoy your company

June, I am still saying so happy to see you posting again. did you receive the card I sent you?

Patricia, I think you have a cat that is a character, makes life interesting for you.  When friends were looking for my lost hearing aid, they found a red mouse, that had been missing for a couple of years. She went crazy playing with it. I have bought her other toys and she has nothing to do with them, but loves this little mouse.
By the way I have been without my hearing aid for over 3 weeks, and I am not a happy camper, It is also over 10 days since a new one was ordered.

Jane, Lloyd, Jackie Jeanne, Sandy and all my other friends in here hope you are having a great day.

I'm late coming in to say Good Mornining..it is already 10:30. I was awaked at 4 a.m. by a loud crash. I felt my  computer must have fallen over to make a noise like that. So up I got to investigate. It was a picture of Dori and Gary…one of the grouping of my beloved family. I picked up the pieces and went back to bed. Later when I was up for a while, I put the picture back together and rehung it, without the broken glass. The picture fell against a wall furnace projection and made a clean break of one cross area…two pieces instead of one. That was my introduction to the day today.

Gloria, I have learned that is how I must use my rollator now. Not one step taken without it.

Janie, I do understand your feelings about the posts. We have a whole separate place to go and speak about various things…like the election…and it should be used for our thoughts, not here in our gentle soda shoppe. I am guilty, and will cease. We are here to enjoy each others lives in joy, commiseration, sadness, help, all things related to our personal lives, not the outside stuff we cannot agree on. So when I finish here, my next stop will be in the political forum.

Larry, it is a joy to be back among all you loving folks. My boys decided I am going to have a lap top computer as well as my imac, that way if I have to be hospitalized for some time, I can still keep in touch with all of you dear people.

Hal, I don't know your age, but at 92 I will not submit to any kind of surgery again…injections are o.k. or any exterior cutting, but no opening up this old body that would have to try and get well again..NO WAY ! I will look forward to what will happen once I leave this world. It is going to be a real "trip".

Gloria de, I have not opened my mail yet, other than to check for vital things. Your message is awaiting my opening, and I know it will be lovely and I thank you. I feel shamed that I have not done my email…..sorry about that dear.

Linedancer--Sorry you lost yesterday's post.  I hope when you go to the orthopedic doctor on Monday he has answers to alleviate your hip and leg pain.  Glad you enjoyed the story.

June--You sure got abruptly awakened when that picture fell.  Good you could piece it back together and rehang it.  I think it's great that you are going to get a laptop for times when you are away from your Mac.

I just got off the phone a
while back,  and walked over to my Windows,  when I looked down and there were four
Fire Engines and many police cars/ambulances  near by.     I was shocked because I hadn't heard any alarms.

Well it seems like there was a fire up
on the seventh floor (I am on the 2nd)..
in the kitchen of an apartment that happens to be right above me six floors up...

Then I looked out in the hall and saw
and heard water coming down.  Some came into my hall way,  but most was coming down the large stair way.

After speaking to a gentle man, I learned
about the problem on the 7th floor.  And
since water does flow down hill ....the 2nd floor was getting a little.

The engines etc left and the water stopped flowing and none of it came into my apartment,  so all is well.

My biggest fear is having water damage to
my electronics....   (Phew)

More action going on here....    a few minutes ago,  over the speakers came and emergency warning to vacate the building, as there was and emergency...

I started to head out when I ran into the manager and she said,  not and emergency go back in your apartment.     This kept on blasting away for about 10 minutes,  when it finally stopped.
Apparently,
"All's well that ends well" ....

Yikes...   we go months with out any
issues,  but today we had three.     Hopefully that is it  until tomorrow.

What a day!!

Sandy, you certainly did have an exciting day ! I'm thankful you had no water damage to your Apt. It must have been quite heavy fire though, to have needed that amount of water to put it out..brrrrrr....makes me shudder just thinking about it.

I went down for lunch today, so have some extra left overs in case tomorrow requires me to stay at home. I hope to resume my normal schedule with Church on Sunday.

Jane, it is sad to lose a really close old friend. I don't know if I have any left or not. I left my home town in Mn.way back in the early forties, and have never returned. Those I did write to are all gone.

I just went down for a bandage change on my leg. So I won't be disturbed with anything tonight.

I think you are all tucked away in bed, so I will bid you all a very Good night and a happy tomorrow. Hugs, Love and Prayers. June

Janie, sorry about the lost of your friend.

Joanie, I did have a little excitement today.  I talked to an old friend who I worked with, he is even older than me.  He had open heart surgery last year and has recovered nicely.......although......he is having dizzy spells and fell getting into his pickup in a parking lot at a shopping center.  But no major injuries, scrapes on his arms.  We talked for over an hour.

Bed time, nite, nite all.  Sweet dreams and God bless everyone.

No Service Charge

The state trooper pulled Mr. Schwarz over and after inspecting his license and registration, informed the motorist that he was going to have to spend the night in jail.

"What's the charge?" Mr. Schwarz demanded.

"None," replied the officer. "It's all part of the service."

Food For Thought

Consider Jesus!
(By Kerry Doyal)

Talk about courageous! At Easter a few years ago, a well-known Italian journalist who was a Muslim was baptized by the Pope at the Vatican. He publicly abandoned Islam and embraced Jesus in an international way. His extended family may not have been thrilled with this dramatic crossover. It is not hard to imagine the threats and attacks he might face. Bowing to Jesus means bowing out of other faith commitments. He is a rightfully jealous Lover.

For some disciples - like many in India, Egypt and China - a "yes" to Jesus means serious persecution, economic hardship, ostracism and maybe even death. Christians are still suffering and dying for being faithful to Jesus. First century Jews who bravely and obediently submitted to Jesus as their Messiah knew such trials. Confessing Jesus as Lord meant one might get to go to heaven a lot sooner than they had planned.

They had a powerful temptation to turn back to Judaism and away from Jesus to end their pain. Who wants to have to choose between life, one's livelihood and loved ones and the Lord? Thus the book of Hebrews was written; to encourage and bolster embattled believers.

Their hope? Their help? Their need and ours? To "consider Jesus" - look afresh at the One who also suffered. He stayed faithful, He knows. Look to Jesus. Learn of Him, lean on Him. He is a faithful, merciful and powerful helper to those hurting for His sake.

Hear Hebrews 2:

"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

"Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

"Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him..." (Hebrews 2:14, 15, 17-18; 3; 1, 2 ~ ESV).

Let's pick out a few encouraging reminders from that packed passage for when we are tempted to turn back, to compromise our commitment to Christ.

First of all: your walk with God may provoke the Devil, but fear not, he has been de-clawed, neutered. Jesus shared skin - became human - so He could share in our sufferings and thus skin the serpent, end his claims and control over us (vs. 14). We are now able to resist the tempter as we stand firm in the faith. We draw near to God so He can draw near to us and the devil will flee (1 Peter 5, James 4; Eph. 6). Our sympathetic Savior - who is in us - is greater than the one that is in the world (1 John 4:4; 1 Cor. 10:13).

Consider this: since Jesus, our Apostle and High Priest was faithful to God unto death, He can set free those enslaved by fear of death. If the worst someone can do to you because your faith in Jesus is send you to heaven - where is the threat in that?

The process of dying doesn't thrill me. But, in Jesus, death itself is nothing to fear. Where is your sting, death (1 Corin. 15)? Jesus has the keys of Death (Revelation 1:18). It is in His control. Make me a slave with a fear of death? Not any more, I consider Jesus.

Saint Patrick wrote some 1500 years ago: "Daily I expect murder, fraud or captivity, but I fear none of these things because of the promises of heaven. I have cast myself into the hands of God almighty who rules everywhere." I think this missionary to Ireland was considering Jesus!

Matthew Henry, an English pastor of the late 1600's commented: "Here the wonderful love of God appeared, that, when Christ knew what he must suffer in our nature, and how he must die in it, yet he readily took it upon him. And this atonement made way for his people's deliverance from Satan's bondage, and for the pardon of their sins through faith...Let those who dread death, and strive to get the better of their terrors, no longer attempt to out-brave or to stifle them, no longer grow careless or wicked through despair. Let them not expect help from the world, or human devices; but let them seek pardon, peace, grace, and a lively hope of heaven, by faith in Him who died and rose again, that thus they may rise above the fear of death."

To help us be faithful in our faith-race (ala Heb. 12:1, 2), two key opponents have been dealt with: the Devil and Death. Both lost their power to dispirit or defeat us. Jesus, our brother and priest, hammered the Devil and dealt death a deathblow. To stay faithful like Jesus was - and is - look again at Him. He displayed and defined fidelity to the Father. He now emboldens and empowers faltering and fearful followers. Consider Him, all ye scared and suffering saints!

When trials, tiredness or timidity tempt you to give up, consider Jesus. He was faithful in His sufferings to bring us into His family: steady to the Father, staying the course. We must stay true. And we can as we consider Him! Consider Jesus!

Amy, same problem here.  I've already found a couple things on Amazon I can't live without so just had to peek in here to see who is up.  Sons are coming over when the frost is off the grass, to transplant some small trees for me.  They are taller than I am so will be some deep digging.  I'm hoping to send some home with them.  The trees volunteer & I move them to a flower bed & then have to find a place for them.  I planted some on the river bank years ago & now have a real woods down there.

Joan, love the thought of the day, copied to "add on" when e-mailing my kids.  Thanks!

Jane, so sorry about the loss of your friend.  I have lost most of mine that I could "call & pick up where we left off a year ago".  It is such a sad moment every time you want to tell those friends something special, and nobody to tell.  Hugs to you.

And now to get away from the bright light of the monitor.  I do have lightly tinted glasses on right now, very old ones that I know are not really good for my eyes.... they are for distance not up close & the bifocal doesn't work for the computer at all.  What they do is make my distance vision worse.... so I think after wearing them quite a bit this summer (they are the old "photo-gray" of 30 some years ago).  It is a real problem being just a little near & far sighted, but so far I still read without glasses & in an emergency, could drive without but eyes would sure be sore & runny if I did, especially with bright sun.  I try not to drive after dark because of bright lights.  Others have it much worse so I shouldn't complain.... just limit my time on the computer.  I listen more than watch TV & have to limit my reading.  Once I start a book it's like I am spell bound to finish it. Silly to give in to the urge when I know what happens!  :-[

Good morning to all.

Good morning, Joan and all the Saturday morning friends.

Joan, this morning you have provided one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches.  Love croissants .

Amy, I also had a "healthy" breakfast,  I made up some cinnamon rolls. LOL

Jane, sorry about the loss of your friend.  It seems we all are losing friends so quickly these days. I guess that is another sign of "old age".

It is a pretty sunny morning here in Central Maryland, but only about 30 º.   I was up early to turn the thermostat up and then went back to sleep for a little bit longer.

Nothing special on my agenda for today.  It took me a few minutes to realize it was Saturday.  All the days of the week seem the same to me these days.

I hope everyone will have a great day

A sunny morning here in NC, too.  Windy and chilly and our first hard freeze is expected tonight.

I would love a croissant, Joan, but guess I will settle for my usual oatmeal with banana, craisins, sliced almonds and walnuts.  Healthy and very filling and warms the tummy on a cold day.

Hope it will be a good one for everyone.

Good morning everyone, hated to get out of bed this morning, I was nice and warm and knew it would be cold when I got up. So glad I have a nice warm fleece robe. The sun is shining and the sky is blue so it might warm up some.

JOAN got a call yesterday from the pain doctor's office. Have an appointment for 12/23. Another reason I am now glad I changed doctor. Makes me feel good to find someone who will listen and do something. Glad I changed my medical, maybe the one I had limited the doctor on what he could do. Who knows.

JANE like you I am tired of political talk, we have had too much of it this year.

JACKIE  how terrible to see that woman not be fed.

AMY  Like you I did a lot of baking and miss being able to do any now.

PHYLLIS  I used to have a lot of rubber bands but they were left behind when I moved, now I only have a few and they are not the strong kind. Oh yes the making of bread the old fashioned way and all that kneading. Well worth it with the aroma and the taste.

LLOYD  if you get that bread made I get that first slice with the end of the bread. Nice and crusty, yummy.

PATRICIA  I know about not being able to do so many things I did without thinking about it. I used to move furniture around to clean in back and under. That no longer gets done, The CNA I have is not allowed to do that.

LARRY  it is great to find a doctor who does something instead of walking out of the room or saying he would look into it and do nothing. It was more than 2 years ago I asked about a pain clinic, I would still be waiting. I saw online about all the fires in the southeast and how far the smoke is going.

HAL  looks like my appointments are just starting. Only thing for me is I do not like them in the winter months. Most of my regular ones like the dentist are now in the spring and fall. Then I have to arrange for transportation for all of them. That is the biggest problem I have. As far as back surgery I have been told I am too old. Even when I was still in my 70's. Another demonstration here at the state capitol. Crazy, if the media did not play them up so much they would fade away.

GLORIA de  I do hope the pain doctor I will be seeing next month helps me. This has been going on too many years now and all I ever got was more pain pills that I do not like taking and they really do not help much.

JUNE  I have had my rollator for more than 6 years now and am so glad I got it before I had to use it all the time.

JOAN  breakfast will be great this morning, something different. Cute chuckles. Food for Thought should make everyone think. Like today's quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  like you I did not want to get up this morning. I have not been to Michael's in a few years now, always found something I needed when I went there.

SHIRLEY  like you I copy a lot of the quotes Joan ends her posts with. I have computer glasses and except for reading I see better with then than my bifocals. At times I forget I have them on and when I go to read something wonder why I cannot read the words.

LLOYD  don't forget I want that slice of bread when you make it.

JANE  good excuse to go out for breakfast. Better than cooking.

PHYLLIS  looks like you add good things to your oatmeal, I do, too. Stays with me for hours and am not hungry till late afternoon.

Hi everyone on another beautiful morning.  We had some smoke yesterday from the wild fires in several surrounding States but it appears to have cleared away this morning.  Pat had good news from her Chiropractor yesterday.  He feels that progress has been made and it is now time to maintain it with just a once-a-month treatment and he will do the next three appointments without additional cost to us, which was really a surprise.  I think the conclusion is that she is just about as good as it is likely to be for her but we can always hope for further improvement.  She has exercises to do daily and to continue to use the ice as needed.

Today we are excited to have two dear friends visit us from where we moved from.  We are so looking forward to the visit.  We will just have a light lunch here with the chicken salad on croissants as the main item and then I got this huge pumpkin pie from COSTCO yesterday so will have that for dessert.  I will fix a vegetable plate to go with the sandwiches. I did talk with Scott yesterday and he was feeling back to normal.

Yesterday I went to pick up my new glasses and when they gave me the card to check what I could see I found that I saw much better with the old glasses than the new.  I talked to the eye doctor and we decided to use the old prescription in the new glasses.  I am sure in the next couple of years that I will need a prescription change and will then have a second pair to send off for the new lenses plus I will have a spare pair in reserve should they ever be needed.

deAngel, I have never heard of the spinal spondylolis so had to look it up.  I am glad to see I was in good company in losing my posting.  :)  I do hope you get your hearing aid soon.

June, I hope you will really like your laptop.  I would gladly give up the desktop computer rather than my laptop.

Sandy, nothing like having them bring the parade to you.  That is special!  I sounds like that fire and the water really made a mess in your apartment building.  Glad it didn't impact your apartment or things.

JaneS, sorry about the lose of your high school classmate.  So far we have lost only one of my classmates.

Hal, I wonder if your friend would be a candidate for a pacemaker?  I hope he discusses the dizziness with his doctor.  Glad he wasn't seriously hurt in his fall.

Amy, glad you aren't wasting those Michaels coupons.  Pat keeps her eye on the Joann Fabric coupons but hasn't been able to use one for several months now.

Joy and Phyllis, wish I could share some of the croissants with you both.  The package I bought has 12 in it and there are only four of us for lunch.  It look like I will have to eat the rest of them myself--such hard duty.  Of course, I can share a few with our son the next time he is out along with some of this huge pumpkin pie.

Gloria, maybe that furniture moving years ago contributed to your back issues.  My grandmother used to move her furniture a lot, several times a year.  In this house we really have only one place for most of the furniture.

Good morning halkel.  Sounds like you'll spend the day watching football games.

Gloria--Good morning.  GREAT that you're scheduled for the pain clinic in December.  This new doctor is moving right along.  I pray for you that you'll finally get some pain relief.

Good morning, Larry.  We have wild fires here, too.  I heard on the local news this morning that they suspect some are arson.  If so, the arsonist needs to be in jail.  I hope with the decreased number of chiropractic appointments that Pat continues to be somewhat relieved of pain.  Enjoy the visit from your friends today.  Lunch sounds yummy.

Good Morning,
I would describe the climate today as "crisp".

Hal,  of course we're on for today's games!   Go Sooners!  Go Pokes!

Amy,  My first reaction was to giggle at your comment:  Hubby wants to get his hair cut so off to the city we go.I see Michaels has a 50% off coupon and I will use it for my blades for the rotary cutter. because the first thought was to connect the two parts of the sentence - and the first "rotary cutter" I pictured was a lawn mower.
Maybe you meant your hair clippers.   ;D

Janie,  I'm so sorry for the loss of your special friend.   Even though I hadn't seen him since the Fall of 1953, I felt very sad when I learned a few years ago that my first love had died.  We never really "broke up";  just drifted apart into our own lives.
Several of my long-time friends have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's.  It's really tough to accept that they can no longer function as the bright, talented, wonderful conversationalists they used to be.

Shirley,  can you adjust the brightness of your screen?   I lower the brightness on my Tablet when I'm reading at night.

I'll probably get a whole page of demerits for how I spent most of the day yesterday.  Maybe having a big bag of things to donate to charity will excuse sorting, rearranging and cleaning my closet.

Also made the "baking supply" list - since the first holiday need will be baking cookies for the church Thanksgiving dinner next Wednesday evening.
I tried to retire from taking THE chocolate dessert to the family Thanksgiving dinner - but was quickly out-voted.  I know better than to suggest not bringing the cornbread dressing.

Jane,  I'd take pancakes at Appleby's over making candy, too!   I did put the Martha Washington candy ingredients on the "baking supply" list but haven't commented to the family about making it.  I know my Bridge Club would like some.

Another thing was to contact my doctor for a referral to a dermatologist.  Don't have a specific problem but it's been several years since I had a skin check-up.   I sent the e-mail request shortly after noon - and at 2:15, the dermatologist's office called to set up the appointment.
I really like being able to contact my doctor this way and appreciate the way he (or either of the PAs I like) answer so quickly.

Off to earn some more demerits.  One result of the closet work was an overloaded laundry basket.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Breakfast was good and I found out that the kids get $4.50 for every ticket sold.  The restaurant only charges $2. for each meal sold and if a ticket is sold and the person doesn't show, they keep all the money.  It's a pretty good deal and I saw lots of friends there including Kiran.  I got 2 hugs and a kiss.

Then I went for a hair cut and picked up a few groceries.  Like Callie, I'm getting started on the Christmas candy.  I'm making peanut butter centers and coconut centers today.

Back home, have laundry out on line now. He did get his hair cut but I didn't get to Michaels, noticed he was getting a bit tired and thought home is the best place to be. He did manage to sleep most all the way home and is in bed catching those few zzz' he missed.

Callie, Joan was right, rotary blades for my fabric cutter..I do have a supply but one can always use them.
Larry, we don't have a Jo Annes here....have heard about them and wish they were here!

Hal, I'm happy to hear you are in contact with an old friend from working days. After serious surgery, I feel we are bound to expect serious complications as we mend. I'm sorry your friend fell getting into his car. He may have learned it is time for him to quit driving ??

I am arriving in mid morning again. I do keep busy once out of the bed, but though I woke early, I chose to doze off and on till 6:30, and then starts the routine of medicating, praying, etc. and I got more involved in my new Bible Gary gave me. Still haven't done the leg exercises. But here we are.

Gloria, my rollator belonged to my husband and he has been gone 11 years now and I have been using it for I would guess six or seven years, almost constantly, but it has done a lot of turning while dancing with me. I think both of us will be retiring from that. I am just SO delighted that you have a doctor that is a good doctor now. It means so much to be able to trust one who should know us well.

Larry, your joy in your laptop gives me more incentive to make myself learn mine well as I did with my first Apple computer.Thank you. And Cheers for Pat as she continues to heal.

Just had a very pleasant half hour talking with my oldest son Dan. He is still decorating the last banjo he made…very fine work, and he loves it.

So I will get this posted now and get ready to go down for the noon meal, and a walk then home again.
till later, June

Amy and Joan, not being a seamstress, I didn't think about the fabric cutter.  Still grinning over thinking you were planning to cut your hubby's hair with a rotary cutter.  ( I know - I have a skewed sense of humor   :crazy2:)

Jane,  I didn't say I was starting to MAKE the candy - just planning to get the ingredients....and let them set there until my conscience nags me enough to start.

I am being roundly scolded by three squirrels because, after I caught them shinnying up to the suet feeder, I greased the pole with petroleum jelly.  Sooorrrrrrryyyy  (NOT! )

It's such a lovely day that I've been inspired to plant the bulbs I've had in the fridge for about a month.  I'm putting them in the big planters in the back yard.  Attention, Squirrels:   I'm burying chicken wire over the bulbs so you can't dig them up.  Na Na na na Na.

Hal,  I am keeping an eye on the OU/Baylor game - but it looks as if OU is doing fine without me.

Back outdoors I go to enjoy the cool sunshine while it lasts.

Behave yourselves.  (  I heard that "we will if you will"!!!!!!   )

Janie--Glad your breakfast was so good and that you got to see Kiran.  That really is a good deal.  Oh my--your talking about candy makes my mouth water.

Amy--I imagine that since your husband is still recovering he tires easily.

June--Did you already get a laptop?

Callie--Funny about your thinking Amy was going to cut her husband's hair with that rotary cutter.:)   Squirrels are BIG pests.

Angel.

Now I have had a Bread Machine for years. Not use it for awhile but think I will get it out again for the winter.
Now when we were over in Seniornet. We had a group forum that were using Bread Machines. Was fun then as we would pass bread recipes around and try different ones each week. Talk about how we could make different ones.  I don't see any of the old group in here now.  The Blarney Bread was always my favourite.
Now we have a place called "Goodwill" down here where people always give things, not using, to them.  Always seeing Bread Machines in there for $10. or less.  People bought them, use them a few times and then give away.. I have a habit of doing that myself. I give a lot of things. Also buy once in awhile. My Iron stopped working and as I don't use one often didn't want t spend $29.95 for a new one. Found one there just like mine. like new. Cost $2

JeanneP--We have Goodwill here, too.

Bis, no laptop yet, Gary is shopping for one for me. He is on my checking account, and he also has power of attorney, so I am carefree.
He even writes out all the Birthday and Anniversary checks for me and they include it with the cards they send. I am so well care for, the Queen of England would envy me. But I wont tell her, I don't want her sinning.

JeanneP, I no longer iron. some things I probably should iron, but people will have to take what they see. My face has deeper wrinkles than my clothing.

Callie, I am so glad you have a garden to plant things. I miss that. But when I sold my home, that was the end of my gardening..enjoy yours as long as you can. I had a neighbor that had trouble getting down on his knees to plant, and he put wheels on a small wooden box, so he could sit and plant.

Jeanne thanks but I've decided not to buy a bread machine. Because I've become convinced it would become part of  what my Mom called, part of the third kitchen.

I replaced my iron last year but have yet to take it out of its box!

Yesterday's chili and cornbread feed went over well. I understood that all of the vets in the senior homes in Anchorage and Fairbanks voted on the evening's menu and chili won out over hamburgers, hot dogs or pizzas. You had the choice between coffee or generic brand soda and the vets did all the arrangements for the meal. It was a typical guy's meal.

OK, Callie, I guess I started "thinking" about the Christmas candy before you did because I bought some of the stuff a while back and then some of it yesterday.  Today I spread about half of the crackers and made the center filling for the PB cups.  If all goes well tomorrow, I'll make the coconut and the mint centers.  Then I can start rolling while I watch Christmas movies on TV and listen to the music.

But first, I have to make pies for Thanksgiving and I have to concentrate on that because my pie crust is very good...sometimes!  I'm just not consistent but I copied someone's recipe on the "WHAT'S FOR DINNER" board and I'm going to try it.  If it doesn't work, I have someone else to blame....Sorry whoever it was that posted that recipe!  But that's how the chips fall.   :smitten: :2funny:

Patricia, I think chili and beans are truly a Fall dish..like soup, and I recall when I lived at Sunwest Village we would honor our Vets with a chili dinner, and our entertainment lady would serve it in metal cans and a choice of coffee or beer…we could serve beer there…but not here. I did so much back then, but here at Rowntree I am happily at peace and acting my almost 92 years. It's great !!!!!!

Janie, I used to use the Crisco recipe for pie crust. Sometimes it was excellent, other times it was no so great. I really think it is all in the handling of the dough, and very few humans can do things exactly the same way twice..altho my mother said that her mother had the "feel" for the dough..pies, biscuits and bread…all of them. I have retired from all cooking…only what someone else makes and I can heat in the microwave.

I am ready for bed and book too, but first have to brush the teeth and wash the face, and take the meds, etc. God Bless you all and bring you safely through the night. I love you MUCH. June  :smitten:
