Title: Soda Shoppe Week of October 2
Post by: JoanFL on October 02, 2016, 03:51:01 AM
Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's apple fritters to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her nice “October” graphic creation which we are using this week.

Mike's Blind Date

Joe sets up his friend Mike on a blind date with a young lady-friend of his.
But Mike is a little worried about going out with someone he's never seen before. "What do I do if she's really unattractive?" says Mike. "I'll be stuck with her all evening."

"Don't worry," Joe says, "just go up to her door and meet her first. If you like what you see, then everything goes as planned. If you don't just shout 'Aaaaaauuuggghhh!' and fake an asthma attack."

So that night, Mike knocks at the girl's door and when she comes out he is awe-struck at how attractive and sexy she is. He's about to speak when the girl suddenly shouts:  "Aaaaaauuuggghhh!"

Food For Thought
Andy and Heaven

By Keith Mannes
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-19

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you. . . .
1 Peter 4:12
Our fellow church member Andy had brain cancer. Ron and Andy had become Christian friends, and this illness knocked Ron off his feet.
This was Andy: About a year ¬after I was called to serve another church far away, Andy and his friend Dick came to visit. Andy had heard there was good fishing in the local streams, so we went fishing. My plan was to fish from the shore, but Andy looked at me with joyful abandon and walked fully clothed into the river, splashing upstream like a child.
Andy also had a guitar collection. That weekend he played one of them for the church I was now serving. Afterward he handed it to me and asked me to care for it till the next time he came, even though we both knew there wouldn’t be a “next time.”
Four months later, I was on a plane to do Andy’s funeral. He hadn’t died alone; Dick had gone to visit him every day to care for him.
Ron picked me up at the airport and dissolved in tears. He drove me to his house, which had now become their headquarters of love and grief. The remains of our small church was gathered in his living room.
There we all learned about suffering. And it was worthwhile, because it was suffused with joy, love, and Christ. There is no choosing: it all comes in one package.
Lord, walk with us through times of suffering. We do not want to go through those times without you. Christ, meet us in these times of need. In your name, Amen.

Good morning

Rained most of the night and I hope it keeps up all day. Lakes , ponds and the rivers will certainly enjoy it too.

A day of rest here.will play in the sewing room ,only a little slower now, yesterday while cutting some fabric I sliced my finger and now sport a clumsy big bandage that gets in my way. Good reminder to watch what I am doing.

Love the fall graphic Phyliss.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and Amy!  I'm running a little late this morning so I'll be back later to see what Everyfriend is up to this morning. I'll be staying after church for coffee with friends then going to my daughters for a late breakfast. Then I'm going to make a quick stop at the farmers market. Have a good day my friends.

Good Morning Everyone!

First off, Callie, thank you for being kind to me. OSU whupped up on Texas yesterday and OU whupped up on TCU.  Defense won it for Okla with the blocked kicks.

Amy sorry about the finger.  How in the world did you manage that with a paid of scissors?  I will guarantee you one thing.  That finger will be in way of everything you do and you will hit it on everything you can think of.

Janie, once again, I envy you (oops that is a sin, isn't it) for having such nice farmers markets.  Would love wandering around pickin at everything.

Joanie, apple fritters, matches the season.  If you hadn't mentioned the placement of the graphic I would have never known.  Thanks for breakfast.
And your soul food. (think about it).

Coffee is ready, and I need to get some clothes on and go outside and get the paper.  Who wants a cup (after I put clothes on).  We will eat some more of Joanies Fritters.

Lloyd--Good morning.  Big equipment sure does have problems.  Thank goodness nobody was hurt.

Good morning, halkel.  My coding for the graphic to be in the correct place just didn't work correctly this morning.  I'll join you for coffee.

Hi everyone on this beautiful 61 degree Sunday morning.  I will go to Sunday School and Church this morning and then stop at Firehouse Subs for our lunch to bring home.  They have a very good salad that Pat will have for lunch and I will get one of the subs.

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day as stayed home all day.  I did watch the Georgia/Tennessee football game and what an exciting ending with Georgia going ahead with 10 seconds to go and then Tennessee throwing into the end zone to their tallest player and he caught it for a touchdown as the clock ran out and Tennessee won the game.  This afternoon, after resting awhile, I plan on watching the Carolina versus the Atlanta Falcons pro-game, although will likely take a little nap during the game.  I will probably put on my headphones and listen to Don's radio program at the same time.  I will just do a little multi-tasking.

Joan, that pie was delicious and was our supper last evening.  We have another meal of it in the freezer, which will make a nice meal some evening I don't want to cook.  Your family members saw quite a game in Tennessee yesterday.  It was really a heart breaker for those of us who are Georgia fans.

June, you haven't missed a thing by never having a migraine as they are miserable and I know from first-hand experience.  My son hadn't had one for a long time.  Stacey also suffered from them and I believe it is a family trait.  When we get to our mid-50's they seem to stop.  My theory is that our arteries are hardening and that stops them.

Sandy, thanks for explaining Kefir.

June, over the years I have been prescribed a nitro patch or nitro paste.  It usually gave me a bad headache but doubt it would do so now.  I hope you experience no such pain.

Joan, that is a very pretty fall graphic that you used.  Thanks to you and to Phyllis for your continual work for us here.  I really appreciate you all.

Amy, do you use electric scissors or a rotary cutter?  Sorry about your cut as know that will be painful and always in the way.  Pat has used the rotary cutter for years.

Lloyd, so sorry to read of your troubles with tires and sure glad no one was hurt.

Hal, this wasn't a good weekend for football in South Carolina although Clemson did win their game.

Hal, I use a rotary cutter like the bottom on this site...http://www2.fiskars.com/Special-Feature/How-to-Choose-a-Rotary-Cutter

Clean cut, and I didn't want to leak all over my fabic!!

Good morning, Larry.  My family, who I told you attended the Georgia/Tennessee game, said it was exciting.  Thanks for your words of appreciation (to me and Phyllis).

Amy--That rotary cutter is pretty nifty.

Bis dear heart..good morning ! Makes no difference to me where the graphic is placed, It is always perfect for the season of the year. Thank you.

I am up. I have done all the usual, and now enjoying that first cup of coffee. It is a bit cloudy but will clear up before we know it. I like cloudy mornings, they let me wake up gently instead of blinking at the brightness of sunshine.

Amy, I am so sorry you sliced your finger, sound painful having happened with the scissors. You will be forced to have some rest today, which you have certainly earned. Hugs for healing, my friend.

Janie, your day sounds good girl, I hope it one of great Peace too.

Phyllis, I wish our few light clouds would darken and give us the needed rain. I think if it rained every day all year long it would not bring us up to the normal amount we need.

Lloyd, something seems unfair here…you are off to help a friend, and you run into all that trouble. I am so sorry. As you say, no one was harmed, and the cost was minimal, and you are surely Blessed by God for being such a good friend.

Hal, do you normally walk around in the buff when your wife is out of town ? tsk-tsK !!!!!!  I am on my second cup of coffee now and a piece of coffee cake, following it with half a banana.

Larry, interesting take on the Migraine ceasing with age because of hardening of arteries. You may have something there. I have arranged with the clinic to get the nitro patch. The idea of a having to paste one on every single morning does not appeal to me, but with both Dr. and son saying I should do it, I will.

Time to make the bed and get on with the day, Church starts in and hour and 10 minutes.

Good morning everyone, I had set a scan disk for start up and it did that when I booted up. Usually has 3 steps, today was 5  and it took hours. Decided to take my shower while it was doing it's thing and was still going after I had dressed.  Oh well at least I know my PC is virus and malware free and running OK. My son took the AC out yesterday and I have a big chunk of room back again. Takes up a lot of room, still rather have a window one. Still cloudy with periods of drizzle. Watching the news earlier about Matthew. Hope the European  prediction is right and it will veer west before it hits land. On the map they showed it looked like Melbourne would be in the target area. Hate seeing that.

LARRY  my daughter and SIL have a lot of unpacking to do. They bought 2 of those large containers, the size of the trailers  on 18 wheeler.  They have stored a lot in one of them and the other has all my SIL's tools and such, will be his work/hobby area.

JOAN  I really appreciate all you do for us. I know hunting for things to post in the mornings is time consuming, only want you to know I do thank you for all of it.

HAL  I think the coldest I have seen here was -30°, yes minus, and that lasted a few days.

JOAN  I do not see a weekly graphic. Something messed up here, I was taken back to April when I clicked at the bottom on your post for last week.  Ti's the season for good apple fritters. LOL with chuckles, guess the blind date thought Mike was not attractive. Andy and Heaven, very touching story. Thank you for all today's goodies. Wondered why I could not see the graphic. It was being obstinate this morning.

PHYLLIS  love the simplicity of today's graphic, perfect.

AMY  OUCH, bet that cut surprised you.

JANE  I would love to go to a good farmers market. The ones around here have little in the way of local produce. There was one lady who picked apples at my son's orchard and expected him to give her a break on the cost. She wanted to make a nice profit at his expense.

JANE  have a good day.

PHYLLIS  no rain in the forecast here today but we “might have a few showers” is what one local weather guesser said.

LLOYD  looks like you should have stayed home yesterday.

HAL  am I too late for coffee?

DON  will be listening soon.

JUNE  good morning.

Gloria, never too late for coffee, always have some in the pot for those that want to drop in.
Just got a call from my daughter, inviting me to her daughters tonite for a meal.  Hey never, never turn down a free meal, right.

Amy, how many times have you hit the poor cut finger?

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool,  dry, and sunny,
Rocky coast of Maine...

Eleven people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter.
10 Men and 1 Woman..

The rope was not strong enough to carry them all,
so they decided that 1 had to leave,
because otherwise they were all going to fall..
They weren't able to choose that person,
until the Woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope,
because, as a Woman, she was used to giving up everything for her Husband and Kids or for Men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.

As soon as she finished her speech, all the Men started clapping ...

:wave2:

(giggle)
Have a great day Everyone!

Shana Tova !

hello Everyfriend!  I hope your day is going well. I had God fellowship with my church friends and a good breakfast at my daughter's house. After breakfast she brought out some quilts that she has to confirm who had made the. The biggest one was a twin size and I'm sure my grandmother made it. The second was a crib size that my sister made for her when she was born and the third was a doll size that was made for me when I was about 4. My grandmother made one for my sister and one for me when my grandfather made us doll beds to fit the new dolls we got for Christmas that year. Gramma also made shoes, coats and bonnets, dresses and rompers for the dolls. Oh and a pinafore too. We had the best dressed dolls on the block!  I'm so glad the quilt is still a part of our family memories.

I just took a pumpkin pie out of the oven and I have 4 loaves of pumpkin bread baking. There will be some in the Hidey Hole soon. Please help yourselves.

TAPS
Near the bottom, as you scroll down, are the words.  The first stanza frequently comes to mind at sundown...

I never knew ... DID YOU?
<Image.jpg>
If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which taps was played; this brings out a new meaning of it.
<Image.jpg>
Here is something Every American should know. Until I read this, I didn't know, but I checked it out and it's true:
We in the United States have all heard the haunting song, 'Taps...' It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes.

<Image.jpg>
But, do you know the story behind the song?  If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.
Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the Civil War, when  Union Army Captain Robert Elli was with his men near Harrison's Landing in   Virginia. The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.

<Image.jpg>
During the night, Captain Elli heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field.  Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment..
When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.
The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock.  In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out..  Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.
The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.
The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.
The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.
But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.

<Image.jpg>
The Captain chose a bugler.  He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.
This wish was granted.
The haunting melody, we now know as 'Taps' used at military funerals was born.
The words are:

Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.

Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise.
For our days.
Neath the sun
Neath the stars.
Neath the sky
As we go.
This we know.
God is nigh

<Image.jpg>
I too have felt the chills while listening to 'Taps' but I have never seen all the words to the song until now.  I didn't even know there was more than one verse .  I also never knew the story behind the song and I didn't know if you had either so I thought I'd pass it along.
I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I did before.
Remember Those Lost and Harmed While Serving Their Country.

<Image.jpg>
Also Remember Those Who Have Served And Returned; and for those presently serving in the Armed Forces.

<Image.jpg>
Please send this on for our soldiers ...  please don't break it.
I didn't!

Lloyd, thank you. I knew the first verse, din't know the others. It is one of the saddest pieces of music I have ever heard, and the sound of it truly does make one feel the finality of life here on earth.

Good late evening, this is the first chance, I have had to come here to day.l Had a bad night, went to sleep about 6Am, next thing I knew I had slept until 10, first time in my life I have ever slept that late. By the time I dress and got myself to gether it was nearly 11.
About 12, a neighbor brougt me a qt. of milk, as I was out, bought me a flan pudding. She sayed about and hour, then my neighbor on the other side came over, he stayed awhile, then put my garbage and papers out. Did the dishes, and came to the computer, and my neighbors from across the street came over with wine, and my dinner. They stayed for a couple of hours, so went my Sunday.
Then I watched the Ryder cup. America Won, and I stayed with golf channel till 7. Had dinner, so here I am, very tired,

Joan, I agree withGloria, we do not thank you enough for all you do to keep our group happy, with food and good reading.  Phyllis also thank you for such great graphics each week.

June, I wore the patches for a month, it started when I was in the nursing home, had to change them twice aday.  My regular doctor took me off, as he said I was still given my same heart meds. and I did not need both.

Amy, sorry about your sewing accident. Hope your finger is better.

Lloyd, thanks for the story about taps, very interesting, We use to sing it in scouts, at the end of our meeting. I also did not know there was more verses.

Gloria, I am sure you are having this nasty, damp weather. they now say it was clear by Wed.

June, they played when Dennis was buried, and one plane few over. It is a sad tune.

Gloria de, I'm so sorry you had such a bad night. It sure can mess up your internal clock, so I hope you can drop right off to sleep tonight. I'll try the patch, but I sure hope I am not allergic to the adhesive. Some band aids give me a severe itching allergy
which takes week to heal up. We'll see what happens. I would just have to put on a fresh patch each morning.

I think I will take one more stroll around the outside  grounds and then get ready for bed. So I will wish you all a very good night now. God Bless, sleep peacefully and wake rested. Hugs and Love, June

The Real Thing

While traveling in India, I had a couple of chances to workout. The exercise room in the hotel had a tv that was showing a movie that looked familiar to me. At second glance I realized it was the movie Rocky IV. The classic movie is about the boxer Rocky Balboa taking on the super-sized Russian fighter Drago to avenge the death of his friend Apollo Creed. It's a movie with little Oscar-potential but you leave the theater with the desire to fight the world.

What was strange about the Rocky movie on the tv was that it was a remake. A remake with all Indian actors using the same poses, lines, boxing scenes, camera angles. Only the actors were different. Well, and, of course the Rocky character had Indian-colored shorts instead of USA. They even added the "Cut me, Mick" scene even though that was from an earlier Rocky movie.

It struck me how I found myself with this cheapened feeling with this imitation. It felt just wrong. The original, genuine movie is out there and some people only know the imitation.

We visited a couple of Hindu Temples in India.

There are about 330 million gods and goddesses in the Hindu understanding. 330,000,000! It's unreal to comprehend. A very confusing concept.

We were walking back down the steps leaving one of the temples and passed a boy with a crippled leg hopping on one leg up the steps to get to the temple. His determination and ability to keep up with his friends as they navigated the steps was amazing. One of my friends made the comment, "He is going to do all that work to get to the top and there will be nothing for him there."

That comment struck me to the bone. He was right. If that sweet boy was looking for something that heals, something that makes a difference, he would find nothing at the top of those stairs. Nothing.

When Jesus says in John 14:6 "I am the Way, the Truth, the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me," He means He is the only One. Not the 330,000,001. It's not being judgmental; it's pointing out the truth and who Jesus said He was. You will not be disappointed when you seek Jesus. You will find Him.

Anything else is just an imitation that will leave you empty and left wanting for the Real Thing: Jesus.

JOAN....
...good Monday morning....
..................................
I have showered, washed my hair in preparation for another cross county journey, soon will be leaving once R gets back with the dogs....This time its to another MS Therapy Centre, a tad shorter in mileage from the one of last week at 47 miles...It will be good to have a comparison....Oh and R told me the extra mileage clocked up on our unplanned detour last week, came out as 20 miles...bringing a total of a 140 mile round trip..

I have also made a phone call to another daytime, lunchtime MS social type club, that will be a shorter drive of 30 miles but, when we arrive Thursday mid day provided we arrive before 11.30 we can book lunch and join them, told they also run exercise, yoga and Pilate's, this sounds more up my street, of course it all depends on my body on the day, whether I can do it or not, but its there if and when I would want it....Seems I dont need to register as a member just need to take my MS Society registration card along with me, that is an annual £10 optional membership, I became a member on the recommendation of my monthly evening MS social meet-up, glad I did now.

Still no news as to my medical - administration official complaint..says I should hear the outcome by 23rd September but, if its a more complicated complaint they would notify me in writing with an updated and later date...I am still waiting for either the outcome or an updated later date...we are now running ten days overdue...

Wishing all a good start to your week...

Good morning everyone.

Taking my van in to get a wiggle in the front end checked out. Need to do a few things around the house, then I hope to cut out another quilt as I finished one yesterday.

Joan, thank you for the scones, I like mine well buttered. :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning/afternoon Vanilla-Jackie.  It sounds as if you have several options when choosing a MS therapy center/group, and IMO that's a good thing.

Amy--Good morning.  Hopefully whatever is causing that wiggle in your van won't necessitate a costly repair bill.

good morning Everyfriend!  We got up a bit later than usual today and the doggies are already telling me it's time to eat.  So I'll go feed them and get my breakfast and then I'll be back to see what Everyfriend is up to this foggy October day.

Good Morning Everyone!

Amy, is that cute wiggle or ugly one?   :)

Jackie, enjoy your journey (trip).  I hope you can find a group that suites you.

Joanie, scones or biscuits, I will have two please and some nice fruit preserves to spread on them, I will bring the coffee since I already have it ready.

Janie, sounds like you have a murky morning in your part of the world.  As far as I know, we have a clear morning, still dark out.  But no moisture suppose to be happening here.

a church friend who flies for a commercial airline came to church yesterday in his uniform.  I told him I suspect someone has to go to work directly from church.  He said yes he was flying to Paris at midnight, he is based in Detriot and "commutes" from here to Detriot.   I no longer envy these guys with the world in the shape it is in.

Well going to get myself a cup of the coffee I made.  Anyone want a cup?

Good morning, Janie.  It's cloudy here.  About half an hour ago it rained for 5 min.--not enough to do any good.

Lloyd--Good morning.  After you work on the dozer and go to the vampire, I think you will be ready for a nap.

Good morning, halkel.  Your scones/biscuits are ready just the way you asked for them.  I'll join you for a cup of coffee.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be another beautiful day here in South Carolina.  It was in the 60's when I got up this morning and suppose to get to only 85 degrees later this afternoon.

Yesterday was the normal Sunday with one exception.  In the afternoon a couple of ladies from the church brought Pat one of the two beautiful bouquets of flowers from the morning service.  Our Sunday School class had purchased the flowers for Sunday's service.  It is a very large display and we have them sitting on our dining room table where Pat can see them from her easy chair.  The only thing on today's schedule is my noon meeting.  I plan on fixing hamburgers for dinner tonight with some sides of vegetables.  It will be an easy meal to prepare.

Amy, it is only takes a second for an accident to happen and being tired makes us less careful.  Pat has worn out two or three of the cutting mats over the years.  She has two or three different sizes as well.

Gloria, your SIL must have a lot of shop tools.  That storage bin would make a good workshop if he gets some electricity run to it so he has good light and can use his saws, etc.

Callie, there are a lot of world problems so do understand why it would take you ladies 2 1/2 hours to solve.  Of course, who was listening that can execute your solutions?  My men's coffee group used to do that a lot but nobody paid any attention and so they were left for you ladies.  :)

Patricia, I have never heard of pickled grapes?  However, I have to wonder why you would want to pickle grapes.  Am I missing something?

deAngel, you certainly have nice neighbors that are looking out for you.  Hope you were able to sleep well last night.

Jackie, hope your outing today is enjoyable and rewarding and that you don't have to detour.

Good morning, Larry.  We've had short showers on and off all morning.  I hope they keep on because we are so very dry here.  How nice that those ladies from church brought Pat the flowers to brighten her day.

Good morning all. We are back from a wonderful visit in Vermont. Almost all our family made it to the reunion. Makes it nice for us as they are scattered all over New England. We decided to fly and only stay a week so we'll miss the best of the foliage season. Maybe next year!

Larry - How right you are! My daughter's recent accident with a circular saw left her without 1/3 of her ring finger on her right hand.  :(

Amy - Hope your finger is feeling better.

Lloyd - Thank you for the verses to Taps.

Like many of you I remember so well singing the first verse at the end of our Girl Scout meetings.

Joan - I haven't checked the progress of Hurricane Matthew this morning but sure hope it stays east of you.

It's a beautiful sunny day so far but already up to 95.

Hal. not sure if one could call this cute or not. Hubby asked me if it did it at 30 k and I said no, he then said I suppose you didn't pay attention when it happens  and I said yes it happens when I do 100K  :2funny: See I do pay attention.

Lloyd and Beverly, yes my finger is somewhat better. Have a smaller bandage on it now but it is first and foremost to get smacked if I try  to do anything. My main concern was that I didn't bleed all over the lovely fabric I was working with to make a cancer quilt.

Good morning, Beverly.  How nice you were able to go to your reunion in Vermont.  I do miss the changing of colors, but I don't miss the s--- and frigid temps.  It's still "iffy" if we'll get any of Matthew's fury here.

Amy--Glad your finger is better.  You should have let a bit of blood drip on the quilt and then you can say you made it with your "blood and sweat".

Amy, all joking aside, I suspect you have a tire that has thrown a weight and is out of balance. I say this since it is not doing it at all speeds.  If it is they should be able to balance the tires and have you back on the road in short order.  Ask you husband.

Good morning everyone,  not raining this morning but still cloudy. Don't know if it is the rain or the shorter daylight but I cannot seem to stay awake by 8pm lately, and waking late. Hope when the sun chines again I will have some energy.

JOAN  I did see the graphic after reading your post yesterday. I was surprised with where I was taken to yesterday.  It took a few minutes to get to where I should have been. This PC is just being ornery again.

HAL  never turn down a home cooked meal.

JANE oh yes t'is the season for every thing pumpkin.

LLOYD  wonderful, I had never read the whole story of Taps. My oldest son used to play that on his trombone.

GLORIA de I have had days I just can't seem to get going. You have wonderful neighbors that take good care of you. WOW we just had a blink of sunshine. Saw on local weather that midweek we will have sun then Saturday more rain.

CALLIE  wonderful girl to want all who have served our country to have a live trumpet player at their burial. Sad to think they only were getting a recorded version.

JOAN  a scone will be good with my coffee. LOL with Chuckles . The Real Thing, so true, do not believe imitations. Thank you for all today's goodies.

JACKIE  I am glad our medical system in not like yours. A person could die waiting for a letter from them. Glad you are finding more MS places to check out.

HAL  I am with you about pilots these days. I know I would not get on a plane to anywhere these days. Never enjoyed it when I went to San Diego and now would really be scared.

LARRY  since #1 son retired he has been making supper during the week. He always did know how to cook some things but has improved. Makes my DIL happy she does not have to cook after working all day. #2 son does most of the cooking and he is a good cook. I taught my 3 how to cook when they were young. Never know what life will bring and I wanted to make sure they knew how to cook. Only thing I could make when I got married was spaghetti, chocolate cake and fudge. I used to ask my Mom to teach me and she would show me, I would ask about the measurements because she was of the old school, a handful of this or that and a pinch of the other. I needed measurements. She would chase me out of the kitchen.  My SIL has a lot of tools and he also has some that were his Dad's. He already has shelves in the container for his workshop and even a wood stove if needed. Nothing makes him happier that changing things to the way he wants them.

BEVERLY  trees here in RI are starting to change. I love looking at the swamp maples at the edge of the parking lot and seeing how they change ever day. Beautiful colors on those leaves.

AMY  don't know 100K from 100 miles and thought when I read your post at first at 100 mph you had a lead foot.  :tickedoff:

Good Morning, we have more rain and fog along with our morning frost today.

I've experienced a lot of flying and being driven in all those years of being a military dependent, (Often with a crying baby or irascible pet in hand); so its nice not to have those "hurry up and wait," experiences. And of course,  the take your shoes, watches, and belts off before lining up to take a flight anymore.

Yes, Larry, in my opinion, you are missing out on the pickled grapes...also JeanneP. posted your sausage muffin recipe and some posters are a bit confused over adding flour or whey.   However, as Joan says, it is another of those whatever floats your boat thingies  http://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?topic=10.msg52686#msg52686

I've got so much to do today, and the body is sluggish, so I should set this coffee aside and get to it.......in a minute.

Good morning/Good afternoon, angelface.  I did lots of flying earlier in my life.  Before I had to quit all those new rules and regs were in  place.  It certainly isn't the way it used to be.

Where's Gloria?  I hope she is OK.

Good Morning all, a lazy day coming up. I don't have to be any place at any time all day long, and does that feel good. I may even stay home for lunch. I don't feel very face to face Social today. But I love all of you. You don't mind if I stay in my nighty all day, 'cause you don't have to look at me. Now having said all that, what do you want to bet that I will be called down to pick up some medication or other. Guess I'm also feeling pessimistic today.

Bis I really enjoyed the Altered Words today. I am saving it to share with others that I feel will enjoy it.

Jackie, you are so fortunate to have you R there to transport you to all these various meetings which have nothing to do with him. He must care a great deal for you dear. You are Blessed. I don't think my Edward would have done all that.

Hal, I have already filled myself up to the eyeballs with coffee, a banana and a slice of toast with butter and grape jelly. I wasn't the least bit hungry but we have to feed the beast that lives inside us, al all the medications don't get lonely and rebel.

Beverly, I'm sorry you couldn't stay to see the Fall colors in New England, we get nothing like that in Ca. and in Mn., where I was born they were outstanding too. Sounds like the rest of the visit was great.

Gloria, my Mom never taught me how to cook, she couldn't be bothered I guess, and my Dad was a good cook too. He cooked in WW1. Made great Beans !! So I spent the first six months of my married life in tears, trying to  make meat tender enough to eat. Of course Ed's Mother was a wonderful cook, but she never taught him anything. In her family the men were treated like Princes.

Patricia, I'm taking the day off. For lunch I plan to make a fried egg in the microwave.

Bis, Gloria posted just before Patricia.

Amy--Glad your van is fixed.  With all the driving you do, you want it safe to drive.

I am still at home, but dressed, and when I finish gabbing here I will go take a walk. I did something that was a success. I fried an egg in the microwave oven. It was so easy, and it was so tasty. I found how to do it on the  computer. Just typed in "how to cook eggs on the microwave", and so I tried the fried...perfect. I have no means of stove top cooking here. Just the microwave oven and my small toaster oven. Every now and then I yearn for a fried egg sandwich and today I had it. YAY !!

I slept last night with no pillow. I am trying to clear up this echo I get in my ear, so I'm trying several methods. Hang the head over the edge of the bed while lying on back, sometimes turning head to the side. Then I decided to try sleeping without a pillow all night, and it seems to be working.About mid morning today I started to get the echo, so I lay down on the bed and repeated the procedure, and then lay flat on my back for a while and it seems to have worked. I hear no echo and feel no "fullness" in my ear. It is not a wax problem, I had the ears examined for that. So I hope I have discovered what I need.

Now I am going for that walk outside...30 minute walk, with necessary sitting when legs cramp up, then walk some more.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe Week of October 2
Post by: JoanFL on October 03, 2016, 05:53:34 PM
JeanneP--Sounds that way to me.

June--I'll have to "google" how to fry and egg in the microwave.  I hope you've discovered the way to get rid of the ear echo.

Bis, it would be a blessing indeed if I could solve the ear problem, because it seems to affect conversations too. I have read many different things about the ear and what would cause things. The computer has helped me solve many various things I get curious about.

my 30 minute walk got extended to over an hour. I had books to return to the library and a couple news ones to bring home, that takes time to decide. I will have one more walk later this evening. I enjoy going out in the evening before I get ready for bed. Nice and quiet and cool.

Regarding flying and all the rules (most of them for our own safety)..........Being older has its perks. After the age of 75 you don't have to remove your shoes!  :) The planes were packed to the limit on all our flights and the hardest part is being stuck in that seat with no elbow room.

I have an eighty-five-year-old friend living in Dearborn, MI. She is an ex-art professor and has never had any  nefarious leanings. However, she swears that each time she flies to see her sister or her grandkids, that she is singled out to be searched. I know that one time when flying, I had to practically undress before they discovered that it was my earrings setting off the alarm! This was in July 2013 on a flight home from Anchorage.

Seems to be my pattern these days......checking in late at night to see how you all are doing!

Nothing much new going on here....we have been patiently waiting ALL DAY LONG for notice of the delivery of Bob's new cell phone.  When tracking the message it still says it is out for delivery!  It is currently 9:55PM! Hummm, some how I am doubting this.

BEVERLY, it is good to read that you were able to attend your class reunion.  Sorry the trees were not as advanced as you would have liked them to be for a nice color to enjoy.

We had very strong winds today....Mother Nature is trying to get the leaves off the trees, but many have not even started to change so that is not good.  The weather guessers say we may have snow this coming Thursday.

Good morning, JACKIE.

PLEASANT DREAMS TO ALL,

CHUCKLES

Kangaroos

A kangaroo kept getting out of his enclosure at the zoo. Knowing that he could hop high, the zoo officials put up a ten-foot fence. He was out the next morning, just sauntering around the zoo. A twenty-foot fence was put up. Again he got out.

When the fence was forty feet high, a camel in the next enclosure asked the kangaroo, "How high do you think they'll go?"

The kangaroo said, "About a thousand feet, unless somebody locks the gate at night!"

Food For Thought

The Greatest Thing

By Keith Mannes
Scripture Reading: Psalm 27

One thing I ask from the Lord . . . that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. . .
Psalm 27:4
My friend Ron died in a car accident, but it’s not clear how the accident happened. Maybe the car’s accelerator was stuck. Maybe Ron had a stroke or a heart attack and couldn’t control the car.
In any case, it must settle upon us that sanctification is the most important process in life. Giving your life to God, seeking God and his purposes, and offering yourself in worship and obedience to God, just as in Psalm 27â€"well, this is urgent. There is nothing more powerful and majestic and essential than becoming a Christianâ€"and getting better at living it (with God’s help) from the inside out.
This is not a fear thing. You may have heard preachers say, “Turn, or burn! Believe in Jesus, or you will go to hell.” Well, I believe in hell, but the main reason to believe in Jesus is that he loves us so much that he made it possible for us to have full life with him forever.
Believing in Jesus is a desire thing. It involves the desire to know God and to get your hands into whatever he’s doing (Philippians 1:9-11). All of our conversations and the stuff we did in our little church communityâ€"like trying to help Dwayne and lots of other lost and needy peopleâ€"these are the things of Christ, and they are eternal.
Do you have something like that going in your life? Devote your life to Christ. There is no greater thing.
Right now, Lord, redirect me. Take me into your kingdom. This is the hunger of my soul. Hear me, please. In Jesus, Amen.

Good morning Everyfriend!  It's a foggy Autumn morning out there. Definitely football weather!

Regarding flying...just this past May when I flew to TX for my granddaughters wedding, a really nice agent took me out of the line and past the metal detector and waited with me until my backpack came through. I didn't have to take anything off.   This was in Baltimore/Washington airport. And the same thing happened in Dallas airport on the way home. I must look harmless.

I'll be off to greet my public at Wally World today. Wish me an express register. The belt registers wear me out.

Make today a good day!

Good Morning Allllllll......  Friday 2 weeks ago I drove to CO and came home Monday after, LAST Friday I drove to MO for a class reunion-luncheon and drove back down to the Lake for the night, got to Mass at 9:00 and kept driving back to KS after.  Should have stayed longer both places but still have one more "week end" to go & am going to pass up this next trip.... maybe.  It is my mother's youngest cousin's 100th birthday party.  I still sitting on the fence but know this old body is tired.  I love to drive so ~

Jenny, hope your package finally got there but will tell you that when Cas & I were watching out the window at near dark & his packages were "out for delivery".... the truck stopped 2 houses west of ours & I jokingly said, "there are your packages".  Because the drivers immediately note "Delivered" when they get back in the truck, I looked & ours had been delivered.  I walked down & knocked on their door to tell them I'd like to see if they found the packages.... they said they never used their front door but drove into their garage & came in that way.  Cas' packages were tucked under their Welcome mat!  I would never have guessed if we hadn't seen the truck stop.  Hope yours wasn't miss-delivered.

I one time got a special delivery of what looked like the timed paperwork we had gotten during one of our moves so I tried every way possible to contact the delivery people, think it was Fed Ex that time.... and finally drove the envelope around to the next street where the rightful owners lived.  Another time I refused to deliver a package because the name did not belong to the house (home owners list) and insisted the delivery people pick up the package as I didn't want to be responsible for it when I couldn't reach the owners by phone.  Good luck with yours!

Amy, you drive more than I do..... how far is it to "the city"?

I'm not sure I caught up with all the posts, always try to make sure everyone is okay before saying anything, but I'm still not organized from hauling stuff back in after the drives.  My Fitbit crashed last Friday so I called about getting it fixed & they sent a new one.  I was so lost all week end my first priority yesterday was calling for Fitbit help on whether I needed to uninstall the old or what.... NO directions in the box.  Nice man from South America walked me through the whole process and I complimented him on his good English.  I knew my watch battery was probably dead since I'd had the Fitbit for a year & it kept perfect time.  So I thought I would use my cell phone for time, like the kids do.

I set the time on the RV microwave clock by the phone & when I got to my reunion early.... VERY early, I compared time with the waitress & manager was checking on his schedule to make sure since they had 3 different groups that day.  My phone was an hour off.... They tried to tell me I came from another time zone & I insisted I lived in the same one.... so waitress suggested I turn off the phone & back on.  Correct time.... since I had just turned it on when I left the house on Friday, no excuse for it to still be CO time zone ..... but these little gadgets love to drive us nuts, don't they?  They really had double booked one room so we were put in a "public" room & kept taking over more tables as we needed.  No problem & they treated us very nice, had a great time.  Cats & RV did fine, no problems at all, except for the time one & that was just confusion.

My tale for the day, sorry it's so long.  Looks like all are doing well this week, my first stop when ever I am gone.  We have thunder & lightning so better check on a missing cat.

Jane, I had that fog the morning I left the Lake to come home.  Was dense & the trees were covered with web worms so looked like early Halloween with trees sparkling through the fog.

I'll try the link after this gets posted, Lloyd.  Thanks!

Lloyd, the bag said jasmine rice & Google shows a bag that looks similar... CALIFORNIA WHITE JASMINE RICE | Lundberg Family Farms (//http://)  .... but I'm thinking the rice would be more expensive than buying new bananas.  Wonder if the treatment would affect the rice?

Good morning, Janie.  I do hope you get an express register.

Shirley--Good morning.  You sure are "on the go".

Good morning, Lloyd.  After looking at your link, I think the same as Shirley.

I have been watching the weather on TV since about 3 a.m.  I am REALLY scared.  All the weather models they use show the storm heading to Melbourne.

Good morning everyone, for a change I am awake before 9. Not complaining, I sure am catching up on the nights I was lucky to get 4 hours. Once again the media is at it about clowns scaring kids at bus stops. Now they will pop up all over the place. Reporter said some even carried guns. Do we need more foolish jerks out there to hear that and do it themselves.

PATRICIA  I never herd of pickled grapes but my daughter has stuffed grapes and said they were yummy. I still want the fruit I eat to taste like the fruit.

JOAN  I did make it here yesterday, just later than usual. With Matthew still looking like it will hit Florida, I hope you have set up what you will do to ride it out. I worry about you being there alone especially if power goes out. Still do not know if it will hit here but if it does it will be Sunday.

JUNE  hope you had your laid back day yesterday.

AMY  glad getting your van fixed did not break the bank for you.

JOAN  glad you did see I was here. I don't think I have missed many days here except when I had no working computer.  Kangaroo made me laugh. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  safe travel today.

JANE  you are harmless and the agents at the airports knew it. Hope you get that express lane and no one has too many items.

LLOYD  wonder if that over ripe banana really works.

SHIRLEY  being tired and driving are not good companions.  I was waiting for a delivery several years ago and it was way over cue. Called the company and they checked it out. The package was delivered on the wrong street but the right house number. I could even see the house where it was delivered, The people there even opened the package and UPS picked it up there and brought it to me. I was almost ready to go to that house and chew them out for opening it up. It would have taken them less than 5 minutes to take it to where I lived.

JOAN  like you I am scared for you and anyone in the path of that storm. Is there any place you can go to ride out the storm so you are not alone?

Its whats inside the banana skin that counts, we dont eat the skin,...That banana still looked very fresh inside, even if the skin didn't...I kindof find that rather baffling...Did the rice and hairdryer restore the inside too? if not, then  why go through all that trouble? just peel and eat... ???

Shirley and Gloria, I've had two instances recently where packages were delivered to the wrong addresses.  The first went to a neighbor two doors down and she was expecting a package, so opened it.  Then she thought it belonged to me so brought it to me.  When I looked at the name, it wasn't even for me.  The number was across the pond and I called the people who picked it up immediately.

The second one was across our main road from me and they, too, were expecting a delivery so opened it.  The package was for Tom.  I think both packages were delivered by UPS.

I'm going to get new hearing aids this afternoon.  My old ones were over three years old so I thought it was time to check my hearing.  I can hear the sounds OK but they're garbled and I don't always understand what a person is saying.  Women and children with high voices are particularly bad and I guess that is normal.

I hope Matthew stays out of everyone's back and front yards.

Hi everyone on this Tuesday morning here in the South.  The only thing on the calendar for today was to take Pat for an appointment to get her hair cut.  However, she is going to have to cancel it as she has a new very painful problem with her neck that appeared yesterday morning.  So now she is putting ice on her back and using another ice bag on her neck.

Jeanne, there is no flour in the Sausage Muffin Recipe I make.  Pat is trying to stay away from food items with flour or sugar as an ingredient.

June, I am pretty convinced you can find instructions on how to do about anything on the Internet.  Glad your fried egg turned out well for you.

Joan, I just looked at the weather forecast and see why you are concerned.  It looks like South Carolina could be hit as well but where I live is probably on the Westerly edge so don't expect anything major here, perhaps some rain.

Interesting postings but decided to keep my comments fairly brief today.  About everything I would have said has already been said by someone else.

Good morning, Gloria.  Delivering packages and mail to the wrong address seems to happen fairly often here.  I don't attempt to deliver it to the proper address.  I call the delivering entity and ask them to pick it up and deliver it properly.  It's just about impossible for me to go someplace for a storm.  I can fill my portable oxygen canister, but that only lasts 3-4 hours.  Then I have the nebulizer which I must use 7 times a day.  And lastly, I have to sleep in a hospital bed.

Vanilla-Jackie--I thought the same as you.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  Apparently delivering things to the wrong address happens fairly often.

Larry--Good morning.  I am so sorry Pat is now have awful neck pain.  Hopefully Matthew will bypass you.

Good Morning Everyone!

We have the old Gulf scud hanging around this morning.  Hopefully it will burn off around 11 and we will get on with a sunshiny day.

Joanie, I hope you have made plans to get out of there if that hurricane comes calling.  No sense in taking a chance, especially as slow moving as that thing is.  It is going to do a lot damage with having heavy winds blowing for so long a time.
Do you have friends you can go stay with?  I hope so.

Janie, good things happen to good people.  And you are definitely a good person.

Well my Daughter and husband are off to Europe today to do their cruises.  First one starts in Spain and the second one is across the Atlantic to Florida and then flying into San Antonio.  They will be gone almost a whole month.  I have no desire to do the Atlantic crossing.  Done that twice, compliments of Uncle Sam.  And I found out, on a troop ship, that just looking at water and playing cards for seven days is not my cup of tea.  My second crossing was a hum dinger, storms all the way to New York from England.  My wife was sea sick the whole seven days.

Got some stuff to do, talk to you later.  Coffee is on if anyone wants a cup, help yourself.

Good morning, Joan and all the friends.

I am getting here a little late.  I was up early to take some medicine and I went back to sleep for a couple hours.

Nothing special going on today.  It is a sunny morning, but not sure how long it will last.  Showers are supposed to be coming in later.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. In the mid-70's. There were a few people here who I sat outside with for almost 3 hours.  It was such a nice day and I figured that there wouldn't be many of them left.   Not sure if I will make it out today.

Joan, I hope you won't be affected too bad with the storm. I have been watching the track of it, as my grand daughter lives near Myrtle Beach.  Different reports having it come different ways. So, hopefully, people along the south east coast won't get hit too hard.   Our area here in Maryland, probably will feel some of the winds and probably have rain by the week end.

Hope anyone in the path of the storm will be safe.

Have a good afternoon.

Joy

been years now since I set the alarm off at the Airport.  It happened twice. Searched but nothing. Never did figure what caused it.
Now they say that they are not allowed to ask a women if she had the Birth Control coil inserted. ( I didn't) but they do say that they would set the alarms off.

Good Morning dear Hearts !

Had a full nights sleep and feeling perky and sassy today, so beware of an almost 92 year old broad roaming around the place. (I'll probably fade out in another couple of hours).

Jenny, isn't this a bit early for your first snow fall? I envy you the change in seasons, and now when I don't have to go out in the weather I could enjoy a nice snowfall from inside my cozy nest here at Rowntree. Unfortunately So, Ca. weather is much the same 12 months of the year. Nothing to get our blood up and stirring.

Bis, a banana muffin or two would suit me fine. I like banana everything. And whoever coined the words "dumb animals" sure was stupid…that Kangaroo proves it.

Janie, maybe those detector fellows did think you looked innocent, or maybe they looked at this gal that works a cash register at walmart would give the a really hard time. One way or the other, good for you girl.

Tisie, I say keep doing what your doing as long as you can. The day comes, much too soon where your mind and heart wants to keep speeding along, then all of a sudden the years have added up and the body says, STOP….and act your age. I have reached that point in life when the body rebels and we have to obey. Thank God the mind can still have fun with words.

OOps I have got to get outta here…I'm due to a meeting in half an hour, and not dressed yet…..byeeeee……

Good Morning,

Joan, I surely do hope the hurricane turns away from your area.
I'm so glad #2 son/dil did not plan to go with their friends on the annual October scuba diving trip.  It was to have been to Jamaica.  Son said the resort called and told them not to come.  They have six months to reschedule the trip without any more cost.  I doubt that son/dil will go then because they don't like the resort destination.  (Picky, picky ?  ;))

Shirley, you amaze me with your long drives.  We did the drive from Leadville to Warrensburg MO every summer for 3 years while husband did graduate work.  By the time we drove across half of CO and the length of Kansas,  I couldn't walk straight when I got out of the car!!

Hal,  I'm always glad to learn about people who have been to Europe and back without an Incident.  Good to know that life is going on as usual in most places.

I've been out and around the town on errands this morning.  Atmosphere feels like a "weather maker" and the clouds are scudding across the sky in layers - sometimes going in opposite directions.  The weather gurus are already warning people to "be alert" later today/tomorrow.  (That phrase always reminds me of the saying,  "Be alert. The world needs more Lerts   ;D )

If today isn't C.B.'ers Day, it should be.
10-4, Good Buddies
:crazy2:

Oops, so busy being sassy I forgot to mention something to MaryAnn.
My hearing aids are also 3 years old and I was having problems hearing high-pitched voices, garbled words - and literally physical pain with loud noise.  After my audiologist retested my hearing, we talked about it  - and she connected the aids to her computer, did some magic - and reset them.   All is now well.
If you'll be as specific as possible about the problems you're having, maybe your aids can be adjusted, too.
Good luck.

halkel--I am prepared--hurricane center on TV lists things one should do--the Governor has put the whole state on  Emergency Evacuation with my county being at the top of the list.  My son who lives in Alabama called and if things still look bad tomorrow morning, he's going to head this way.

Joy--It looks like we can't avoid this one.

JeanneP--I only set the alarm off one time at the airport, and it was my earrings.

Callie--I don't think we can avoid this storm, but we can hope.

Good afternoon, the sun comes out for about 5min. then it is cloudy for and hour.

Joan, funny story about the dumb gate keeper and the kangaroo.

Patricia, I am the little old lady, that does not look very trusting I guess. One time just before a trip to SC, I read in the paper, do not stand in back of a little old lady, as to prove they do not pick certain people to check out, they will pick on that  lady.I was that lady, they took my carry on bag and checked everything in it, My husband  liked only NY hard rolls so they were also in the bag. the agent  ask me where I was going, and ask me if I liked sweet grass. I answered they make beautiful baskets He said now you can go.
The next time was my fault I guess, as I was in a small airport in Adanna, Turkey. I had spent a month at the AFB, and had bought a lot a small brass gifts.  Put them in a long box. when my suit case went through, all hell broke out, bells rang, they went into lockdown, took me out of line two soldiers came were pokeing me with bayanetts and yelling something,  My son said I think they want you to open your bag in a hurry. Of course I had to look for that little key, for the little lock on my bag, and they kept pokeing. Finally got it open, they took the box out and saw a brass sleigh, with 8 tiny raindeer.  All was quite, and then they laughed. They open the airport again. There were two high ranking officers on my flight, so my son  ask they to keep and I  eye on me, as I would be another 24 hours in Istanbul alone.  That they did.

Joan, when I read about your weather I just knew your kids would zoom in to help you..... thoughtful kids you raised!!!  I am relieved anyway... weather these days is crazy.

I've made the rounds from putting money in the bank and turned right around & gave it to the county for vehicle tags & tax...  easy come-easy go, huh?  Went to Sam's for the cat's chicken & then stopped by Taco Bell for carry out.  Had 2 more errands but wore out so came home to eat & maybe a nap.  That weather Callie is worrying about will hit here first.... even warnings of tornadoes to watch for.  After closing my eyes a while if it doesn't look too severe I will finish my errands.  Weather really is in a toot, antenna TV not doing well....

Callie, that really is a long drive from Leadville to Warrensburg.... I'm pretty much right here in the middle so going either direction is not too bad for me.  550 to Salida & under 300 to Sedalia.

Haha, Linedancer, I also brought back a bunch of the brass vases.  I was told they were made from empty shells, mostly in India.  Mine came from the base PX.  Didn't have any check points back in 1957... even though we were on standby notice to leave in 2 hours if necessary (Suez Crisis).  We were rotating back so packed all we could bring into 2 large crates. We came troop ship, men in the hold & wives with kids grouped together in state rooms.  3 wives & 4 kids under 4 in mine.... twins that were holy terrors.  I went over on the SS United States since my husband didn't have rank to bring me over but gov couldn't stop me from traveling as a "tourist" that ended up staying for several years.   ::)  Couldn't get me on a cruise ship for anything!!!

Wind blowing like crazy here, not a day to deal with my web worms.  I know, it's an excuse & I will deal with the problem tomorrow.

Joan, I am thinking about you and the hurricane, too.  I hope it won't be as bad as it seems to be.  Take care.  Good of Joe to come and be with you if it moves closer to you.  The weather people keep telling us here that if it moves a little farther to the west we'll get a significant hit along about Fri. or Sat.  We have a basement so will gather all of the medicines and important stuff and shelter down there if it comes this way.  The only good thing is that by the time it reaches NC it will have downgraded to a Category 2.....at least they say it will and I hope they are right.  I hope and pray that all of us in its path will be safe and not have any damage.  Just last month we "celebrated" the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Fran.  That is the one that just tore this area to pieces in 1996.  I never in my life had seen as much destruction as we had then.  Took weeks for us to clear all the trees and limbs and debris and repair some leakage in one of the bedrooms.

I am contemplating trying to find a room for David and me in a good sturdy motel but decided I would be too worried about what was happening to the house so we decided we will just ride it out.  We are high above the creek so I don't worry about flooding but we are surrounded by huge, tall trees and I do worry that they will come down on us if the wind gets really strong.  Just have to cross our fingers and pray really hard that it doesn't do too much damage.  We don't have a generator so I imagine we'll be eating a lot of peanut butter sandwiches if the power goes out.   :o

Bis, we had a good meeting this morning. lots of new residents were introduced and short bios on their lives were read. I am pray about the awful storm that is doing so much damage in the Caribbean right now, and hopefully it will veer our to sea and leave the U.S. alone. God knows that people need help, and He is a lot stronger than any hurricane or other storm. I am SO thankful that your Joe is planning to be with you if it is necessary.

My printer is sick. It tells me it has a paper jam, and I am not capable of fixing it, though I tried, and put in a call to the company. The instructions I was given are impossible for me to follow, so I am hoping the girl that works here at Rowntree will be able to help me. She is very busy with more important work at the time, so I will not be printing anything for a while.I could call on Gary, but not unless I can't get someone else. I don't want him crawling on the floor to unplug stuff.

I missed lunch being busy with the printer problem, so I will go down for supper tonight, I can't decide whether I want Asian Chicken with orange sauce, or Barramundi fish. I looked up the fish on the computer, and it sounds tasty. Some grown in the U.S., Some imported from Australia. I don't want anything from China or Japan waters.

I went to our balance and mobility class this afternoon and enjoyed it very much. We always have so laughs as well as the work. Now I will take a trip downstairs to see if my mailbox contains anythiing.

Joanie, talked to my brother this afternoon, text, he is a corp of engineers park somewhere around Panama city and I ask him if he was hightailing it out of there, he said they are going to leave on Friday.  He lives in Georgia.  He seems not too worried since he said he is on the Gulf side of Florida.  I reminded him about all the folks that will be evacuating.  Hopefully they will close the park and kick him out before Friday.

Hi, Mycheal, Thank you for your kind words. It has been an improvement for sure, but again, by late afternoon I faded. So stayed home instead of socializing at dinner downstairs. It is always a treat to have you come in, so we know you are doing O.K.

I tried listening to the the guys that were chosen as V.P.'s, but again it seems like a lot of talk with no real meaning. I will be so glad when this election is over with, and we see what our country is going to turn into now.

Prayers continue for all those in danger of the hurricane. We are all part of each others lives, including those in the Caribbean part of our world,  and what affects one affects the other. God be with us. Much Love, Hugs and more and more Prayers. June

Good Wednesday morning, Everyfriend.  There's DDs to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

:smitten:

CHUCKLES

That's a Doorbell!

I was accompanying my eight-year-old daughter who was selling cookies door-to-door for the Girl Scouts.

After visiting several homes, she commented on the different styles of
doorbells: some buzzed, some rang, some warbled. We made a game of guessing what the next bell would sound like.

At the precise moment she touched the doorbell at one house, the church tower began to chime. She wheeled around with a look of amazement on her face. "Now that's a doorbell!"

Food For Thought

How Far Grace Goes

By Keith Mannes,
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-3

To those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people . . . Grace and peace to you. . . .
1 Corinthians 1:2-3
We’re not sure what happened when my friend Ron died in a car crash. Did the car malfunction? Did Ron have a stroke or a heart attack? We don’t know. It could also be that Ron was drunk or on drugs or even that he crashed on purpose.
If so, it would mean that Ron had sunk into misery again. It would mean that after our small group of believers there stopped meeting, and after his friend Andy died, Ron fell back into old patterns of despair and old methods of coping.
You might say, “Well, if so, then Ron went to hell.” Other people might conclude that sanctification is a cruel pipe dream. If sanctification is just a matter of trying and trying but continuing to fail, then what’s the point?
But no! Don’t buy any of that. Get rid of those thoughts. Sanctification in and through Christ is God’s work, by God’s power, according to God’s vision. We are treasures in God’s eyes, even in our worst moments. A gold mine is mostly mud, but the treasure is there. And God doesn’t forsake his people, in spite of the mud.
Read the whole book of 1 ¬Cor¬in¬thians, and notice all the mud. Yet Paul calls the people sanctified brothers and sisters.
This is how God sees it. And this is how God saw it at the moment of Ron’s death, no matter the circumstances. In Christ, nothing separates us from the love of God.
Faithful God, according to your love, remember me. Today again I rest in your hands. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.

Good morning, Amy.  You sure travel those roads often.  I have the TV on and they are announcing areas of mandatory evacuation that will start at 3 p.m. today.  I am really scared because the areas are getting closer and closer to me.

Good morning Everyfriend!

Joanie I hope you are all packed up and your cae is facing toward the hospital. If you are told to go, get in that care and go. If your son shows up he will find you.

I got my computer back yesterday and when the young man called he said those words everyone loves to hear. ... "It's under warranty. No charge". I LOVE TO HEAR THOSE WORDS!!

I'll be off to greet my public at Wally World today. I hope for short registers but I didn't get them yesterday. I was on two of the busiest registers in the store and I was exhausted when I got home. Today will be another busy day. Yesterday it was busy with lots of large orders because the food stamps cards were refilled and today it will be more of the same because the farmers market is open and we get lots of the fallout from that.

Enjoy your day Everyfriend and BE SAFE!!!

Good morning, Janie.  Believe me, when they say to go, I will.  They are now announcing evacuation centers but they don't have info about when they will open.  I'm sorry you aren't getting the fast check registers.

Good morning everyone,  lot of noise here this morning. A new hot water tank being installed today so the workers were here about 6am. Glad I took a shower last night, no hot water today.  No TV this morning, Cox cable is temporarily down, again.  At least the internet is working.

JACKIE  I think that man was trying to trick us into believing that banana was good after that trick.

MARY ANN  I have a habit of looking at the name on a package or an envelope to make sure it is for me before opening anything.

JOAN  last I heard it was not going to hit your area. Of course no one can tell where it will turn to and be exact. I pray you stay safe.

JOY  I sat out with a few others yesterday afternoon, great day here, too.

JOAN  in your place I would head for that hospital as soon as things start looking bad or when they say it will hit. Please take no chances. Joe has the right idea  and if he can make it there.

PHYLLIS  we have been told if Matthew hugs the coastline it will be here Sunday. If I gets here I will put a few bottles of ensure  and some snacks in my rollator and go down to the main floor. If we lose power I would not be able to go down 2 flights of stairs, if I could I might handle taking a cane down but would not get far walking with it. Last bad one here was Irene, 10 years ago, sent inland even into Vermont and NH where they never had any before. Weird because they never went inland that way with force. The 1938 one surprised everyone and there were even ships in the bay in Fall River, Ma. That were blown onshore. Last one that did damage here in this are was 1954, Carol, terrible destruction and bridges down, a cemetery in Woonsocket RI got flooded and coffins washed up and floating down the river. The army put up some Bailey bridges to connect some parts of that city. My family are all high above any water so flooding is no worry for us. What does scare me is the thought of some of the big trees going down too close.

JOAN  along our coast is where most damage is. Makes me glad no one in my family lives there. If you look at a map you will see where Ct to our west, Ma. To our north and in the corner when RI joins both those states we are one a couple of miles from that point.

AMY  I used to love driving, too. Would go anywhere if I had a co-pilot to read the map if I was going someplace new. Never had GPS when I did a lot of driving.

JOAN  a DD is the comfort food we along the east coast need about now. I  prefer a lemon but any filled one would be good at any time. Like the Doorbell. Thank you for today's goodies.

JANE  you can tell at the markets when folks get their food stamps,  Watching what some buy at taxpayers expense I don't buy because I cannot afford them.

A little sigh of (hopefully) relief from NC.  The storm is predicted to turn further East as it reaches NC so, as of now, we in this part of the state will not take as big a hit as first thought.  We will probably get some rain and some wind but nothing to worry about.  I'm relieved.  But, still hoping and praying that the impact on you, Joan, will get less and less.  Are your neighbors evacuating if told to, Joan?  Many on the Outer Banks are leaving but that barrier island chain is so fragile and so prone to "overwash" from any storm I think they are wise to get out while they can.  I love the OB but wouldn't want to live there now that these big storms are coming more and more often.

I think it is less critical for me to get to the grocery store and stock up on emergency supplies so today will be just a normal day.  The brick mason is nearly finished with the side porch steps and will start on the front steps today or tomorrow.  He is not a fast worker but he is doing a beautiful job and he re-designed the steps to have a lower rise just because of me and what he calls "my condition".  I told him I really appreciated his thoughtfulness.  It will be so much easier for me now and especially easier to get the Rollator up and down the steps.  It has been a struggle to get on and off the porch for some time so I'll really enjoy the new steps and feel much safer going up and down them.

Gloria, so glad you are not near the coast of RI.  Comforting to know that if the storm tracks up there it won't bother you too much.  Also, glad that you are in a sturdy, secure building.  You are wise to plan to go to the ground floor in case the power goes out.  Aren't those Rollator storage pockets great?  You can pack a lot of stuff in them to carry along.

Take care, everyone, and make it a good day.

I'm adding my prayers to those for Joan's safety and also for the rest of you along the east coast.

The predicted Oklahoma storms missed my area.  Most seemed to be along the northern edge of the state and on up toward Shirley in Kansas.

Good morning, Joan and all.  A donut will taste very good this morning.

Nice to see so many friends here this morning.

Joan, I am sure hoping that you will not have any problems evacuating if it comes down to that.  My grand daughter in Pawleys Island, just south of Myrtle Beach, messaged me last night that her area will have mandatory evacuation starting later today.  She is about 2miles from the beach. I thought that would have been far enough away, but I read on one of the weather reports that they are suggesting people go at least 100 miles inland.  The article said that the storm surge would be worse than the actual winds.  I am concerned as she lives in an older mobile home.  I hope the roof is stable enough to stay on .  They are in the process of getting ready to sell their place and move up to Connecticut.  Hope they will have something left to sell.  LOL

Sure will keep everyone in the path of this storm in my prayers. Maybe by some miracle, it will change course.

Gloria, our weather report calls for rain from the storm to affect my area on by the week end .So maybe you won't feel much until the first part of the week. By then, hopefully, it will have died down some.

Joan, with your son coming in,  you will feel a lot safer, I am sure.

Joy

Hi everyone on an overcast morning.  Our schools in our County and County Government offices are closed through Friday although it appears our area will only get some rain and some wind but nothing like the coast line will be getting.  One of the big high schools in Aiken, South Carolina is a designated Shelter Area and other schools will be opened if needed for those 1.4 million people expected to leave the coast area.

This morning I plan on going to COSTCO and to do the washing. This evening I will have dinner at the church with Scott.  We haven't seen him for two weeks so certainly looking forward to spending some time with him. Pat's neck is really giving her fits and it is so painful she can hardly have anything touch it.  She tried to sleep in the bed last night but after 30 minutes had to get up and spend the night in her easy chair.

Joan, I too am concerned for your safety and hope that your son can get to you.  I heard them say on the radio for the SC evacuation that the oncoming lanes of the highways will be made headed in the same direction to help move the traffic out.  I wonder if that will happen in Florida.  I am also concerned for Johann and Windel in Myrtle Beach.  At least they are able to leave their home if needed.

I read all the postings before I got out of bed this morning except for those posted a little later this morning.  I am going to pass today on any other individual comments as have too much to do and need to get busy.

Good Morning Everyone!

Joanie, I will be saying a prayer for you and your fellow Floridians.  Old Matthew is gaining strength after visiting Cuba and I am not so sure the weather folks know for sure what he is going to do.  Just be sure you have your stuff ready to go, which I am sure you have already done that.

Not to much going on here.  Wife is out delivering meals on wheels.  We need to get our flu shots and I got an email from my PC that they have walk in shots all this month.

Daughter made it to Barcelona and their ship okay.  So now the fun will begin.
They had a nice flight, flying business class, and she said she felt like a Beverly Hillbilly with all the "goodies" she wasn't used in coach... ;D

Everyone take care

I've been out running around trying to buy bottled water (none to be had anywhere) and more non-perishable foods.  Grocery store shelves are nearly empty.  When they announce the evacuation of an area, road lanes will only go out from the area--nothing can come in.  I've tried and tried to call and also text my son--no answers.  If he's driving, he won't answer.  Thanks to you all who expressed concern for my safety.

Joan - Have you filled the bathtub with water? Also, if you can't get bottled water, you can store tap water in jugs. I just heard Gov. Scott mention to be sure your cell phone is fully charged in case of power loss. I know you already have a list of precautions, but thought I'd mention a couple that we follow.  I don't know how much it will move inland but we'll be prepared. The most we've had in previous hurricanes is 75 mph winds.

My niece and her family live in Daytona Beach but they are younger and can evacuate more easily. I still worry about them!

If Joe isn't answering his phone he may be "out of range". There are some "dead spots", especially inland where he may be traveling. They are closing some of the main eastern highways going south and turning them into one-way highways for those heading north.

I pray that all of you on the east coast stay safe!

Right now the sun is shining and my husband is out playing golf. I played early this morning with my usual group.

I'm home from work and I didn't get the short registers again today.  The good thing is that I don't have to go tomorrow.

It sounds like people in the path of a hurricane shop like they do around here when "SNOW" is predicted.  All the weatherperson has to say is "snow" and everyone heads to the store for bread, milk, snacks and movies.  They know the cable or satellites will be out and the movies will keep the kids occupied.  Back when my kids were little, we didn't get movies.  If the TV went out and we were snowed in, we got creative.  We built tents, trains, cabins, mansions and castles.  We baked cookies, made soup, toasted hot dogs and made s'mores.  We had talent shows, put on plays, went out in the snow and made snowmen and angels and snow forts and had snowball battles.

HEY!  SNOW IS A LOT MORE FUN AND A LOT LESS SCARY THAN WIND AND WATER!  And a lot less scary than someone shaking the bejeebers out of your house.    I think I'll stay in the snow belt.  But I'll pray like heck for those of you in the path of the wind, rain and waves.  I hope EVERYONE is safe!

Just returned from the second visit of a young Quaker man that speaks to us about the Quaker faith. He is very interesting and inspired in his speaking.

I was sluggish this morning so slow in getting my day started. Reading here about the danger that may be in store for my beloved friends on the East coast, I will be sending up arrow prayers all day for your safety and for your homes. It sounds truly frightening. We have our earthquakes and they can be very dangerous too, but they do not last long enough to keep us in suspense. You survive or you don't. Nothing in life is truly safe, so we learn to appreciate more every hour what we are given. God bless Joe as he travels to be with his Mom. He is a very special man.

I can't remember ever being as frightened as I was when I found myself in the middle of a hurricane in tents in Va with a busload of Girl Scouts between the ages of 14 and 17.  And not one of them was my own child.  And we had no way to get home and we didn't know what was happening to our families back home.  We were offered the shelter of the GS Camp lodge and we were wall-to-wall people in sleeping bags on the floor with creeks rising, rivers rising and scared out of our wits.  That was the summer of 1972.  We found out along the way that 4 of our kids had lost their homes and one of them lost a family member.  And we were told NOT to tell the kids how bad it was.  I think hurricanes and earthquakes and tornadoes are the scariest.  I've survived bad snow and ice storms and even lost power but not lives.

I wish no one had to suffer through these scary acts of nature and I pray that everyone will be safe through whatever comes and whenever it comes.  I did not mean to make light of any act of nature but that's my way of dealing with the bad things that life throws our way.  If what I said bothered anyone, I apologize profusely and I'll close my "mouth" and keep my peace.  I'm very sorry.

Good morning from another beautiful sunshiny day in the Interior! Autumn has certainly been nicer here so far than our entire soggy summer! I voted yesterday in our city and borough elections, mainly choosing bonds and wording of regulations, but that is finished till the November elections.

Farrah amazed me on the past couple of days. I had put her food in the toy ring so she would have to figure a way to get the dry kibble. It has a tennis sized yellow plastic ball in it along with five large openings along the top and a smaller open groove running on the lower inner side, Yesterday, she would put her paw inside and try to scoop up the kibble. Sometimes, it would end up falling out of the lower grooves onto the carpet.

Today, she lay down and peered through an opening at the slots, noting where the kibble was I assume. Then she put her paw in and shunted the kibble towards the smaller inner set of grooves.

She then went on the inside and easily scooped them out onto the carpet to eat. If I hadn't seen this, I don't know if I would have believed it, she is certainly observant and puts those observations to use!

I certainly hope there is minor damage if any from the hurricane, but these storms of late all seem worse than they used to be. I hope all are and stay safe!  Joan, I'm glad your son is so close and will be with you.

We do not have blizzards here because we have so little humidity.  I can see where they would be scary as you see photos of snow up to the roofline. The last three years, we've seen very little snow and have been relatively free of cold temperatures.

I've been in three forest fires, one flood and an untold number of earthquakes. I was also in Anchorage, almost sucked off a short outside hallway of a building during 100 miles an hour winds. All were bad. However, me a hurricane would be so much worse!

CHUCKLES

West Country

England's West Country is known for its charming cottage-like shops. While visiting the area, my friend peered in through one window to see shelf upon shelf of interesting-looking books. So she went inside.

A woman appeared though a beaded curtain and asked, "Can I help you?"

"No, just browsing," said my friend.

"Fine," came the reply. "But so you know, around here most people knock before entering someone's home."

Food For Thought

My Child, I Am Your Forgiving King
(By Debbie Preuss)

My child, I love you, no matter what you bring
To the feet of Me, your forgiving King
Bring it to Me, then lay it down
Trade now your rags, for heaven's crown
Nothing shocks Me, I see it all
I know each time My child falls
I wait for you, to come to Me
So I can heal you eternally
Each time is new, I don't keep score
My forgiveness over you I pour
Over My child, washing you clean
Come My child, and on Me lean
Bring your sins, your cares, your woe
Bring them to Me, for I know
The weight is too heavy for you alone
Believe My love, is to you shown
Forgiveness will lift your heavy weight
Come now child, don't be late
My forgiveness extends while you live
So to Me, please your burdens give
I know your sin, your secret shame
Child, please call out to My name
For I am your forgiving King
No matter what to Me you bring
Come to Me, collect your crown
Bring your burdens, lay them down
I love you child, for eternity
Won't you now, just come to Me?

So glad that Joe is with you, Joan, and I know you are feeling relieved as well.  I'm praying for you (and for all of us on the East Coast).  Here in central NC (we are about 90-100 miles from the coast) all are breathing a little easier.  H. Matthew will turn to the East as it nears the NC coast  and we will probably only get about an inch or two of rain and some gusty winds here.  The Outer Banks will still take a hit and they are evacuating some of the islands.  Johann Mc.  and her husband are in Myrtle Beach and I know they will get hit.  I'm sure they are prepared as well as they can be or have gone inland.  I think Larry is far enough to the west that he won't feel as much except perhaps some rain and minor wind.  Is that right, Larry?

We have been told here that tap water is just as good as bottled water.  I have a large collection of bottled water down in the basement room that we can use for washing but I don't think we will find it necessary to use them.  I'll fill a couple of containers of tap water for drinking, just in case.  I will go to the grocery store today and stock up on some pantry items but that is just our regular weekly shopping.  Tomorrow we will secure outdoor furniture and trash cans so they won't blow around and cause damage.

The bad thing about living in NC is that we get BOTH tornadoes and hurricanes.  Aren't we lucky?  I prefer hurricanes because we have a longer warning time in order to prepare.  With tornadoes they can come up so quickly that often people are caught before they can get to a safe place.  We've have several of both kinds of storms since we moved here....and even an earthquake a few years ago!

Thank you for the birthday messages.  It is nice to be remembered by some of you.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  I have a busy day planned for today but know it probably won't all get done.

This is coffee day and will pick up my friend to go with me and then take him home and go back to the church for our Wisdom group.  Last week we had about 15 present, which was the biggest group I have seen there since I started attending.

Phyllis, you are right in that we don't expect to get very high winds (perhaps 35 to 40 mph) and not much rain which is predicted  and is to occur on Saturday.

Yesterday I did get to COSTCO right after they opened and they were already busy.  However, was able to get a riding cart to use and that made the shopping much easier and faster.  Unloading the car when I got home was the big job.  I stocked up on meat and today must get it ready and into the freezer.  I also want to make some more sausage muffins for Pat and perhaps fix my frozen fruit, if there is room in the freezer.

Yesterday our refrigerator ice maker quit working so I had to get a big bag of ice last evening.  I was surprised as the ice bin held the entire 16 pounds of ice cubes.  I also have to get something planned and ready for dinner tonight.

The Augusta area is already feeling the impact of the evacuation from the coastal areas.  That added with the fact that there was no school yesterday and won't be today and tomorrow filled up the restaurants and sure the motels are probably fully booked by now.  Our son said they had the biggest business he has ever seen yesterday and one lady at dinner last night said she and her son had gone out to eat yesterday and had to go to three places to find a place to park.

Joan, was glad to see that Joe was arrived at your home yesterday and that he had water with him.

Beverly, the weather map showing Florida isn't encouraging in terms of the winds and heavy rain.  Sure hope you and Chape and your home are OK after the storm passes.

Mary Ann, Jackie and Shirley, Jeanne Lee did get out of the hospital several days ago and her son was coming to visit for a couple of days.

Phyllis, Happy Birthday.

Jackie, I hope your visit today reveals a place you can participate in and make a lot of new friends as well as get the help you may need.

Amy, Happy Birthday to your husband and hope you have a delightful trip today to see the beautiful leaves.  That is a nice way to celebrate.

Sun, glad to see your posting but not happy to see you had a new injury as you sure don't need any new problems.

Another day with above average temperatures - maybe even into the mid 70's.  But by Saturday the temps will fall ...  and so will the rain.  By then, though, things should be easing off in the path of Mathew.

Meanwhile, my son, Ken, arrived just after noon yesterday and I've been busy keeping him busy.  ;)  I think he'll only be here another day so the jobs that need his strength and know-how need to be taken care of.

Sorry I haven't been keeping you folks up to date as much as I should, but coming home after a week in the hospital there is sooooo much to contend with, including things such as cleaning stuff out of the refrigerator and getting the garbage gathered and ot of the house, etc., etc.  I hope unter the circumstnaces that doesn't involve demerits!   :o

Good morning Joan and all the friends.

Joan, my thoughts are with you this morning and hope you will not have any problems with the storm.  Are you going to stay put or are you going to be able to get to a shelter?

I am concerned about my grand daughter in S.C.  They have mandatory evacuation and I sure hope they are listening to all the warnings and not drag their feet.  You know,  the young ones are usually slow to get moving.

Happy Birthday, Phyllis.  I hope you have a wonderful day.   Hope you get to go out for a special birthday dinner.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe day, wherever you live.

Joy

Amy, please tell your husband "Happy Shared Birthday" from me.  I am convinced that people born in October are handsome/beautiful, extremely intelligent, gracious, and kind.   And, modest, too!  ::)

At 87 years I strongly suspect that I have a few years head start on him.  My son, David, just invited me out to dinner tonight.  I'm delighted to accept!

Been a successful trip....everyone I spoke with at this MS day centre was very friendly...I am in the process of becoming a member, not sure R will be able to stay for the lunchtime dinner in the future, he was given information of local golf clubs he could attend after dropping me off but dont think he would be interested now, and through our winter months......

I am watching the Weather Channel on TV with thoughts of Joan.  I hope she and Joe can ride out the storm and if not, that they find a nearby shelter.

Happy birthday, Phyllis; I have a few years on you.

We are to get into the mid-to-high 70s today.  And this is October!  The sun is not shining today.

Speaking of sun/Sun, it was good to see a post from our Sunshine this morning.  Welcome back.

Today we have our family luncheon at a new pizza place.  I don't know how many will be able to attend.  We have a potential of seven, but sometimes there are only six of us, maybe four or three.  I like pizza but I hope they have more than pizza such as a salad or soup and salad.

Good morning everyone, just heard the latest on Matthew, wonder how they can tell that Matthew will do a turn like that and hit southern Florida again. I have yet to see “them” forecast anything right. They  put in a new hot water tank here yesterday. No hot water all day but by 6pm it was back. Had to run all the hot water in our apartments to flush the lines.  The one they brought in was almost double the size of the one they took out. It was a nice day here and I never saw so many sitting out watching what was going on. Some  we seldom see were outside watching.

PHYLLIS  your brick mason sounds like a very thoughtful man and worth every penny you will pay him.  I am surprised you can take your rollator up and down stairs. I wound not be able to do that, but then you have the bigger wheels so maybe that helps. I would not be able to lift mine up one step. The last hurricane to hit this area was in 54. Mostly they hit the coast and have done a lot of damage. I love the pouch under the seat, most here have the wire baskets and you can see what they carry. What I carry all the time is not seen by anyone.

JOAN  I feel safer here than I would feel if I was in a house alone. I really am worried about you.

CALLIE  I have heard on TV lately about a big earthquake in Ca. Again. Makes me happy my daughter is not there any longer but my 2 grandsons are still in San Diego. Glad you escaped a bad storm. Hope it misses Shirley, too.

JOY  they had said that we would be in the path on Sunday.

LARRY  I hope Pat get some relief from that pain. Maybe she should see her doctor.

HAL one time coming back fro San Diego I had a business seat and was surprised they put me there but I enjoyed the more comfortable seat and service.

JOAN  I have you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope Joe is there with you now and they will let him drive in to you. I did see on TV how they had all roads open for leaving but not coming in.

JANE  looks like we did the same as you when we got snowed in at times.  My 3 wanted to go outside and into the fun in the snow ASAP.  I will stay here, too.

SANDY  have been through many winter storms here in RI many times. No electricity but always had a small wood stove and plenty of wood to keep the main part of home warm, had gas stove so could still cook. Never without running water.

JANE  I think we have all survived nature's fury in our lives and thank God for keeping us safe.

PATRICIA  Farrah is not a dumb animal. She is a smart kitty to look at thing the way she did and figured out how to get that food.

JOAN  glad Joe made it and glad he will be with you. He is a good son and wonderful man.

MARY ANN  thanks for letting us know about Jeanne Lee. I hope she is well enough to go home.

SUN  miss you. Nice seeing you this morning, take care of yourself. Prayers for you.

JOAN  good  seeing you post this morning. Hope Joe is there with you. Love
Food for Thought and quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.  Stay safe.

JACKIE  hope today's trip is just what you are looking for.

JEANNE LEE  good seeing you. Glad you son is there to help you.

Good Morning,

Good to see Joan here this morning.   Continued prayers for her and any others who will be affected by Michael.  "He" sure is wandering around!!!!

:hb3:  Phyllis

:hello:  Sun.  So good to see you again.

Jeanne Lee,  so glad to know you're home from your hospital stay.  Hope you continue to feel "betterer" and "betterer".

Jackie, it sounds as if this MS Day Center will be "The Place" for you to go.  I know we have Day Care Centers for Seniors whose caregivers need some time to themselves - but I've not heard of one specifically for MS sufferers.  Sounds like a great idea.

Larry,  I continue to be impressed with your thoughtfulness for the other men in your groups.  I remember how much my Dad missed interacting with his men friends when he could no longer get out and about by himself.

Gloria,   October is referred to as "the second storm season" because we can have tornadoes - but they're not usually as severe as the ones in the Spring.   I heard some rain last night but no storms, thank goodness.

I can lift my rollator up one step by lifting the front bar and setting the front wheels on the higher level but I can't get it up a flight of steps.  I'm thinking of getting a smaller walker without the seat to use when I don't think I'll need to sit down.

Project du Jour is to sort out the small freezer below my fridge.  I suspect there are freezer baggies of leftovers tucked away here and there that need to be used.  Also suspect I'll find some other things tucked away "in case I need them".....and I don't.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Safe and Good Day.

Joy--Good morning.  I hope your granddaughter in SC will be safe.  The plan now is to stay put.

Good morning Linedancer.  Enjoy your RH luncheon.  I continue to pray for your grandson and hope he is safe during the hurricane.

Vanilla-Jackie--Glad you had a successful trip.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  Right now we are going to try to ride it out.  Enjoy your family luncheon.

Gloria--Good morning.  Don't worry about me.   Joe is here to take care of things.

Good morning, Callie.  The hurricane is Matthew--not Michael.:)

When we arrived in the MS car park I approached a lady having a puff on a ciggy outside the building in a kindof  outside hideaway shelter, so went over to speak to her...told her I was new and was here to be shown around, so she told me which entrance door to take and the name of the lady I need to ask for....so we chatted briefly as she told me she was almost 70 now and was diagnosed with Primary Progressive, ( same as me, which is a rarity to not only find someone else with PPMS but to find someone diagnosed so late in life...) just seven years, so she was diagnosed age 63, a year before my diagnoses, she too said how much she hated this disease, hated what it had done to her, how its affected her life....well that I agreed with her on....

Good Morning all, like Hal I am running late. Really didn't want to get up this morning, after having eight hours sleep....made myself a bowl of cream of wheat for breakfast so I am stuffed.

Bis, I feel SO relieved knowing Joe is there with you, as I know how I would feel in your position, and having Gary nearby would be a great consolation. My Dan is more of a dreamer, where Gary is down to earth and tells it like it is.

Phyllis, I know you will have a very Happy Birthday. And having your son take you out for dinner is icing on the cake. I wish you many, many more very Happy days.

Sun, I am so very sorry you have injured your other wing. If your skin is as thin as mine, I know how easily it can tear, and it seems it takes forever for things to heal now. I'm praying for your quick healing dear heart. Don't give up girl.....this too will pass.

I am passing up this mornings games, but I must go down for choir practice at 1:30. I may even stay home for lunch. All I feel like is kicking back in the recliner with a book and more sleep. But I had better get decent street clothes on. I would hate to be caught still walking around in my night gown. So off I go to dress.

Joan,  I'm praying hard that you will be safe and have no damage from "Matthew" - "Michael" - "Whateveritsnameis".
Also praying that "Nadine" and "he" don't like each other and go their separate ways.

Another round of severe storms is predicted to move through the state later today.  Locations to be affected are more unpredictable than those for the hurricane.
I'm off to the grocery store in case something comes my way.  So far, I've only had enough rain to water the pot garden.

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and dry, rocky coast
of Maine.

Lovely day!

I went out for a short while and walked down
to CVS to  pick me up some ice cream...
This is my treat,  because my Internet
went down and was down for a very long
time...   (4-5 hours) ...

I get a wee bit crazed when that happens.
But now that I have my smart phone
and my books on disc player,  I  can
entertain myself.     But getting out to walk
really helped me too.

(I know,  I know,  I have nothing to complain
about...   but I DO, ANYWAY)

Best wishes to all those in the path
of Matthew!!!!

Joan ...  glad to see that your
son is with you now....  Good luck  to
both of you as you see this through.

Have a good day,  everyone.

Joan - Not sure about your decision to ride out the storm!   :( I hope you will be safe. I am SO glad Joe is with you.

My niece, her husband and son live in Daytona Beach and they have been boarding up her house. She still hadn't left when I talked to her awhile ago. I've asked her to come here but  her adult children and grandkids have gone to relatives in Dunellon and they want her to come there.  She's going to call me after she leaves. My brother in Vermont (her Dad) is concerned that if she doesn't leave soon the roadways will be blocked. She also has another house on the inter-coastal and said she doesn't expect it to be there when she gets back.  :(

We're preparing for lots of rain and strong winds, also for power outages. It's already started raining here. Chape finally found gas at one of the Walmarts. The bread aisles in the stores are stripped. He found one bunch of bananas left!  :) They're green but will last longer that way.

Still hoping that the worst of it will stay away from coast.

Hope all of you on the east coast stay safe.

Just read that all of the Florida Theme Parks are closing early and will remain closed until Saturday.  Have to wonder how many tourists that will affect - particularly the ones who aren't familiar with the kind of rain/wind even the outer edges of a hurricane can bring.

It is very warm and "sticky" outside this afternoon.   In the Spring, we would call this a "weather-maker".

Shirley and Lloyd may be getting some stormy stuff, too.

Good afternoon from a bright, sunshiny Interior day.

I have an eye exam tomorrow and am not expecting good news, but we shall see!

Joan, Beverly and all those affected or possibly affected by the hurricane, stay safe!

Sun, so nice to again hear from you and sorry your "good" arm was injured! We want you back and healthy!

Amy, I hope your husband has a nice birthday and the trees in your link were bright and vibrant in their colors.

Phyllis, Enjoy your birthday today and your dinner out with David!

And Gloria, Farrah sends her good wishes to Taffy and enjoy your red hat luncheon!

GloriaZ, no Farrah is certainly not dumb, probably why she survived as well as she has.

Good hearing from you Callie and all those I've missed!

CALLIE  there are a few of those smaller walkers down stairs for anyone who has to use one. There is one that has front wheels  so only have to pick the side with handles up and one with sliders on the bottom and has a basket attached.  I have wondered about using that when when I go to my son's home. Would be easier for everyone except me.

JOAN  so you and Joe are staying in your home? I pray you will be safe. I am so glad he made it there so you are not alone. I do wish you and Joe had left the coast area though.

PATRICIA  those who call animals dumb have never had a pet.

AMY  glad you hubby enjoyed his birthday doing something he enjoyed, especially the day before surgery. I pray God guides the surgeon's hands and success.

Bis and Joe are in my prayers off and on and will continue there. It sounds bad, with mandatory leaving of the area. One report said that Melbourne will be hit the hardest.  Why, they did not say.

Beverly, thank you so much for the maps. I hope you are FAR left of the purple. Now they (our news people) are talking about very heavy rainfall happening, even if the winds diminish. It sure is frightening to think of the damage that will remain. As I read it, Bis is right on the coast line, but separated from the ocean by an inlet and a spit of land. I wonder if there are homes on that spit of land ? Whatever occurs, I pray God is with all those people that are affected by the weather. Keep safe dear one. My prayers are with all who are affected.

CHUCKLES

Finance

I'd been working on my business degree for about a year when I finally got to take a popular finance course. I went to the bookstore to buy the text and was shocked to find out that it would cost me $96. I asked how much it was worth if I sold it back at the end of the semester.

"You'll get $24," said the clerk.

"This is insane," I protested as I wrote out the check.

"I know," replied the clerk sympathetically. "I've always thought that a person who buys a book for $96 and then sells it back for $24 should fail the course."

Food For Thought

All Aboard!
(By Roy Irwin)

My wife and I were hiking with our nieces and nephew recently at a local park. We followed the marked trail until we came to a clearing in the forest. In the distance, we could hear the faint sound of a train. Looking around, we spotted a set of railroad tracks just a few hundred feet in front of us. We decided to run to the tracks and get a closer look at the approaching train.

As we ran toward the railroad tracks, we could hear the sound of the train getting louder as it got closer to us. The closer we got to the tracks, the louder the sound of the train. It became a race to see which of us would get to the tracks first!

As we made it to the tracks we realized that something was wrong. The sound of the train indicated that it was upon us. However as we looked down each side of the tracks we could see no train! Everyone had a puzzled look on his or her face as we each tried to piece together the puzzle that was before us.

Suddenly we spotted the train! However it wasn't on the tracks we were standing beside. To our surprise there was ANOTHER set of tracks a few hundred feet away that we had not seen that our mystery train was riding on! We were following the wrong set of tracks!

As the train continued on its journey, we had to laugh! We had been so convinced that we were standing by the right tracks. We saw the sights and heard the sounds yet ultimately the train never came down the railroad tracks we were following.

The same is also true in life.

I am reminded of those who say that all paths lead to heaven. Whether they are talking about religions, philosophies or works, what they are saying is that each of these 'tracks' will guide someone to heaven. It may sound good; it may look correct; but just as we discovered while hiking, the train only comes down one set of tracks.

If the destination is heaven - the only 'tracks' that lead to it are Jesus Christ!

Jesus said in John 14:6 "...I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV).

Jesus didn't speak of alternate paths, contingency plans, backup methods, or works of equal merit to get to heaven - only Himself. The shed blood of Jesus Christ by His death on the cross has made it possible for our sins to be forgiven, making it possible for us to go to heaven. He alone purchased our 'ticket' and laid the tracks that lead to heaven and Himself. All we have to do is follow it.

"Dear Lord Jesus, you alone are the way to heaven. You offer to each of us the gift of eternal life. No one can give a gift except the one who purchased it. Help us to remember that while it is a free gift - it was purchased at a very high price - by your death on the cross for our sins. Thank you for making it possible for each of us to experience eternal life with You. Amen."

Thought of the Day

"It is the duty of the pulpit to say the same things over and over and over again. They must be clothed in different phraseology, and illumined by fresh illustration, and approached by a new line of thought; but the things that are really worth saying must be said repeatedly."

JENNY....
....Thank you for responding....yes the MS luncheon was well worth the trip...and people very friendly, even the lady outside smoking her ciggy came over and gave a hug to a man sitting at our table who I got deeply in conversation with, a good atmosphere, and we certainly had some laughs but, of course I also see the other side, the reality side of MS sufferers with their carer's spoon feeding them their food...

Sleep well Jenny, you posted an hour before this posting, and this posting came at 7.30 am...so I am now up and about with cup of tea in my hand...

JOAN...
...good morning, you are up bright and early, I am assuming that monster is now in the far distance, and all is as it should be in Florida...I havnt put our tv on yet to hear any news....

AMY....
...belated Birthday wishes to hubby....I hope his day was very special indeed, especially how his year has been panning out so far with all his medical ills and hospital visits, at least he deserves one special day...

Good Morning Everyone, especially Joaine!

Joan it is great to see you still have electricity (and you did not forget to feed us).  Body and soul.  You know you are in our prayers and thoughts. As well as all who are in harms way.

Cleaning lady coming this morning so I got to get cleaned up and get down to pick her up at the bus stop.  Cool front, with lower humidity, suppose to be in today.

Good morning everyone,  had to get here and turn TV on to see the weather report and all I have seen so far are commercials. My first thought when I woke was of Joan and Joe. I keep praying they are safe. OK finally the weather, Matthew did not land onshore but still very strong winds and rain.
I will be so happy when we hear from her. I keep thinking about how she needs her oxygen and what will happen when they lost power. Just heard about the thousands without power.

JOAN  so good seeing you this morning, a surprise too. You still have power. Thank you for all today's goodies. Stay safe.

Sorry for not commenting, I have a one track mind this morning, praying for Joan and all in the path of Matthew.

Guess you are on all of our minds, Joan & Joe.  I went to bed after 1:00 am so slow getting up, have been awake for an hour listening to the old Sony Walkman for news.

Hal, we already had the cold front last night, came on the tail end of the storms.  All the cats stayed inside & were a little uneasy with the changing temps & wind.

Thinking of Amy & hubby, surgery & waiting room.

Gloria, I was telling you in that post that ended up over in Photos.... that I looked at every apple in the store yesterday..... thinking of you & wishing for a tree ripened apple like you would show us when helping your son.  Apples = Gloria.

Lloyd, the days I spent in MO last week were perfect weather, cloudy so it wasn't too hot in the RV but not raining.  I love being out in a slow rain but not when you have a job to do.  Today I have to cut all the brush we took out of the berm & tie in 4' lengths so the trash will haul them off.  These mulberry trees are a nightmare they grow so fast and everywhere you can't get a lawnmower.

Cats are yelling for breakfast.

Hi everyone on this Friday morning. After a very busy day yesterday I am anticipating a much quieter day today.  The housekeeper just arrived. I fixed up my frozen fruit and may make some coleslaw to go with our ham for dinner unless Pat feels up to going out to eat for our main meal of the day.  She was feeling a little better and called and got an appointment shortly to get a haircut.  This afternoon I may see if I can get a haircut and a pedicure as my toenails are beginning to bother me.

Jackie, interesting that the first person you met at your new MS group has the same type of MS that you do.  Glad you liked what you saw and the people were so friendly.

Beverly, I just read that a number of States have offered to send power crews to help restore electricity.

Patricia, sure hope you are wrong on your expectation from your eye exam.

Time to head out for Pat's appointment.

JOAN  I would stay in a dark jail and be safe. Better than the alternative. I was just looking at pictures on the Weather Channel and then looked out to the beautiful sunny day here. Big difference.

Everyone in the path of the monster Mathew stay safe. Prayers are with you

Good  Morning dear hearts, and it is a VERY good morning seeing as our Bis still has electricity. Bis, I am trying to picture in my mind my Apt. with no windows, and it truly is not pleasant so I can understand your feeling...it makes me feel a bit smothered. I think I would try to keep myelf buried in a book, and pretend it was very dark outside. How is Joe holding up ? I'm so glad you do have power so he can check in with his family. They must be very concerned, and your sister too. May God be with you all at all times and give you what is needed.

Joan,  good to see you "live" this morning.   Melbourne has been mentioned a lot on the Weather Channel.  Prayers continue for your safety and minimal damage - if there must be any damage at all.
Being unable to see what's going on outside must be very frustrating.  So glad Joe is there with you.

Beverly, looks as if your area may get some action, also.  Hope you and Chape don't have damage.

Prayers going out to Amy and her husband, also.  Is this surgery day for him?

Shirley,  when I heard the predicted low temperature for last night,  I switched from a/c to furnace before I went to bed.  Glad I did because it's a bit nippy out this morning.

Gloria, going back to comments about walkers....I certainly want one with wheels.  Several friends have small ones with wheels on all "legs" but fold up more compactly that the rollators do.   I can get my rollator in/out of the car if I have to - but would prefer to have one that's easier and doesn't take up as much space if I need to put it somewhere while I sit (like at a Bridge party or a meeting).

Nothing of interest going on in my world at the moment.

Callie, a walker is not as secure as a rollator. I have used both,  the rollator covers my needs 100 per cent. It has brakes which gives you more protection it your balance is shaky. I personally need the seat, as my legs cramp up after a short distance and I must sit to relieve them.I agree, it is more awkward to fold up tightly and lift, but again all our need are different. You are much younger and stronger that me, but give it a thought.

June,  I have a congenital problem with my feet that might be corrected with a painful surgery that takes about 6 months to heal - for each foot.  (link to probably more information than you want or need  ;) ]http://www.acfas.org/footankleinfo/Accessory_Navicular_Syndrome.htm] (http://www.acfas.org/footankleinfo/Accessory_Navicular_Syndrome.htm) )
I have chosen to wear a type of leather brace that looks like a boot and supports my arches and ankles.

GP doctor has said for years that he'd be happier if I did volunteer work sitting down.  I defied that admonition to work at The History Center and finally stopped when the walking and standing became too painful.

Podiatrist firmly says,  "NO aerobic walking!!'  (To which I said,  "Oh, Darn!  :D.)   He also says,  "Limited standing and walking."  When I asked him to define "limited", he said,  "No more than 2 hours out of 8."  I told him that wasn't even a good shopping trip to the Mall.   >:(

I have a rollator, but don't need it all the time and really don't take it with me very much.  However, I feel more steady walking from car to building, for example,  if I have the support. It's often hard to find a place to put the rollator while I'm seated.   Several friends use a smaller walker in a "sitting" situation and that's what I'm considering - in addition to the rollator.

Callie, we learn something new every day.  I did not know such a condition existed, but there are a lot of physical conditions I don't know about.  That extra bone location makes it look quite painful.

I am so glad Joe did get there before the storm got bad. I would not want to be alone during a hurricane like that either. From what I saw in the news, for you the worse is over now.

Callie, thank you for the clickable on the Accessory Navicular. I found it very interesting. I wonder how common or uncommon a condition it is ? Six month recovery for one foot ?? At my age, if I had the condition, I would certainly refuse surgery. If the leather boot gives you the needed freedom that's great.  Even for a younger person six month of surgery recovery could cause more physical problems in other areas of the body..but what do I know. I have seen very small motorized carts that one sits in and that would be a step I would take if necessary.
We have several residents here that have motorized wheel chairs..out of necessity, and they do well with them. I am so sorry you have this condition Callie, and I'm sure you have suffered greatly at times. God Bless you !!

Bis, I felt great relief for you when you said Joe was on his way to be with you. I am sure it has made this ordeal much more bearable than if you were alone. He is a good, good man. His wife and son are very blessed to have him in their lives.

I have the unique distinction of breaking the same bone on different feet at different times; The bone is the outer one along the edge of your foot, the cuboid. The right foot in April of 2002 and the left in November, just after Thanksgiving 2002. With each break and small fractures, I wore a boot instead of a cast for some months.

When he removed the boot, he cautioned me that it would take a full year for the bone to heal fully and the foot is back to normal. So in Callie's case, six months may be similar to my wearing the boot and another six for a full recovery.

June and Patricia,  The first indication of a problem was in 1985 when the extra bone in the arch of my left foot "sawed" through the tendon and I had to have surgery to remove the bone and repair the tendon.  For that, I was in a cast and a walking boot for about 3 months.  I then wore custom made inserts and, fortunately, the other foot was never affected.

I've worn the braces for almost ten years and, other than not being able to bend my ankles (or wear cute shoes  :)), I get around just fine and really don't mind the limitations all that much (I'm basically kinda lazy   ::)).  Several friends who haven't know me that long didn't realize until recently that I even had the braces on.

Loved the little boy on a History Center tour who suddenly asked why I was wearing two shoes on each foot.  I heard his teacher gasp but before she could chastise him I simply pulled my pants legs up a bit and said,  "These are braces and they help me walk better".  'Oh", he said - nodding wisely, as did the rest of the class - and that was the end of it.

I do appreciate your kind comments.  We really are a supportive group and that's A Very Special Thing!!!

Good evening......

So good to see your post here, JOAN, and to know that you came through the worse of the storm safely.  So impressed that you did not loose your electricity.  I can well imagine you are tired of being confined, but I sure was happy that Joe was there with you.  Will he be able to stay in case the storm swings back around and heads your direction again?

Have been thinking about you BEVERLY, as well and hoping you did not occur any damage either.  It looked like your area did well too.  Hope so.

Mark and Megan got all packed up today and will leave tomorrow for their new life in Arizona. Megan's parents will be going along to help them.  Dad will be driving the uHaual truck with the house hold goods, Mark drives his truck pulling his trailer and Megan and Mom will be driving her car. It sure is nice to not be the parents that are helping them move!  Just thankful her parents are doing this task.  They are excited to start their new life together.  Best part of this, I have someone else to stay with in AZ when I need to get out of the cold!  ðŸ˜,

AMY, I do hope all went well for your hubby today and he is well on his way to a full recovery.

Dr. Dave and Family head to Chicago tomorrow to visit the brother's family there.  Happy the cousins will all be together but sad that I will not be there to see them together.

I wish you all a good night and pleasant dreams to all.

Food For Thought

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:14-22

In him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Ephesians 2:22
I have a wooden cross hanging on my office wall. As with anything our friend Andy made, it is simpleâ€"just two-by-fours into which he carved swirls with a chisel. On the day we moved away to work in another church, all the people from our little church signed their names on this cross. So there also, in black marker, is “Ron.”
I cannot help wondering if your name is on a cross somewhere. I mean, have you signed up? Have you applied your life to the eternal project of Christ? Scripture says that Christ died for you and gives his Spirit to you. Sanctification is Christ taking you in his hands and forming you, etching himself into you. There is no better way to live. God offers his heavenward power to you too.
You can sign up. All it takes is a prayer, accepting God’s gift of forgiveness and peace with simple, childlike trust and belief. Thenâ€"even if you’re scared or reluctantâ€"find a trust¬worthy church. Be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then rise up, in the love of God, and live. Do for other people what these members of our small church did for each other: what Ron did for Dwayne, or what Dick did for Andy. Or what that whole little church did for me.
My prayer is that you become a follower of Jesus Christ (if you are not one already), because this is the stuff of eternal life.
Father, I come to you in faith. Take me into the flow of eternal life, by your Spirit. Forgiveness, peace, purpose, and loveâ€"I am asking for it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Raining, raining, raining here but we're not getting the wind that they first said we would,...yet.  The morning weather report is saying that Matthew is losing strength.  That's good news for everyone on the southeast coast.  There will be lots of flooding because this is a lot of rain on top of lots of rain from last week.  The ground is saturated...just can't take anymore so it is running off into creeks and rivers and they are flooding.  As long as the wind doesn't come up I'll not worry too much.  I really don't want a 90-100 foot tree down on my house!

Joan, I'm relieved that you have come through pretty well.  I know you were anxious and I'm so glad Joe is with you.  Facing these "things" is hard enough but they seem overwhelming when we have to face them alone.

Now, as Annie sang......"the sun'l come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar....."  We can only hope.  Mother Nature does things her way!

Good morning, Lloyd.  I am sorry you are not feeling well this morning.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  Yes, I am seeing daylight.  Glad you liked the thought for the day.

Good morning, Gloria.  I've been wondering how all our participants, in Matthew's path, are doing.  Joe got the tedious job of taking the shutters down and stored late yesterday.  He just left on the long drive back home to Alabama.

Phyllis--Good morning.  You came in while I was typing.  I pray you get no damage from the wind and rain.  You're right about things being so much less stressful when you aren't alone.  I appreciate Joe's coming, beyond words.

Hi everyone on a very rainy morning here in South Carolina.  My rain gauge shows we had almost 2 inches of rain since late yesterday afternoon but it appears the impact of the Hurricane is moving away from our area although a lot of the State is still being battered with heavy rains and winds that will go on for quite awhile today.  There was no wind damage in this area as far as I have heard.  The forecast shows a zero chance of rain tomorrow.

Mary Ann, it sounds like you are well into fall up your way.

Yesterday didn't turn out as I had thought it might.  It was a very good day as Pat finally showed some significant signs of improvement.  She was able to get her hair cut and then about 2:30 we went out for a nice lunch/dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  She was so glad to get out of the house for awhile.  This morning she didn't feel the need to use the walker when she got up for the first time.  She still has a long ways to go but it is encouraging to her and to me.  I didn't have to cook anything yesterday although did fix my frozen fruit.  I plan on staying in today and will get the pedicure and haircut on Monday.

Joan, it sounds like you are OK.  From your postings it sounds like your area didn't lose power.  That has to be very relieving to you as your oxygen wasn't shut off to you.  Glad Joe was able to start home as sounds very encouraging.

Callie, I have never heard of the foot condition you have.  Glad you have been able to adapt to the condition.  You handled the little boys comment very well.

Jenny, glad you did not need to help in Mark and Megan's move to Arizona.  I know you all have done plenty of that in the past.

Lloyd, please take things easy today.  Those higher readings are not good as I am sure you know.

Phyllis, I will be keeping your and those in your area in mind today as the storm strikes North Carolina and the added concern for tornados.

Good morning, Larry.  I am VERY fortunate that I didn't lose power.  Over 200,000 in my county are still without power.  My oxygen doesn't use electricity.  I use liquid oxygen--not a concentrator. I am so glad to read that Pat is feeling better and could get out to eat.

halkel--Good morning.  No damage here.  Just a bunch of palm fronds and leaves all over.    Hopefully we'll hear from Amy about her husband.

damage.

I see that " much milder Matthew" is going to swing
around and "take another bite at the
apple" in the South East.

"Round and around and around we go".

I give Larry a lot of credit for stepping in
and taking over for his wife's job as
"chief cook and bottle washer"  etc etc etc
while she is recuperating...

It is never easy to change roles that have
been established in life and Larry,  once again
you have shown that it can be done.

You have a wonderful attitude and Pat
is fortunate to have you as a partner.

Good JOB, LARRY!

Have a good day,  Everyone !
Sandy

Where is Jane S? she hasn't posted in 3 or 4 days, did she say she was going anywhere, or wouldn't be in?

Thanks, Sandy.  It sure was a blessing to me that Joe came.  Hopefully I won't have any more experience with Matthew.

Vanilla-Jackie--I believe Janie said she wouldn't be back until she got her computer back.  She said her iPad was too hard on her eyes.

Joan thank you, was starting to get concerned over her....computers are the bane of our lives, they're ok when they work...a nightmare when they dont...

A dreary, chilly, damp day here.  A little difficult inhaling the oxygen today, but I think that's because of the dampness in the air.  At least I hope that's what it is.   :)  Glad to know, Joan that you seem to have made it through without any problems.  I know personally what a blessing those grown and caring sons can be.

Good Morning on a sunny Fall-like Saturday in central Oklahoma.

Joan,  so happy to see that you can once more see outside and that you aren't seeing any damage.  Good wishes for Joe to have a safe trip back to Alabama.

I need to water the pansies in the pot garden and might as well sprinkle the perennials while I'm at it.
I want to keep up with football games for both my college and the one my children/grandchildren attended/attend - so off I go outside before I settle down in front of the tv.

Hal,   BOOMER SOONER!!!!!   :cheer:

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Good Day.

PHYLLIS  glad you are doing OK. You have had too much rain and getting more, some places have not seen enough rain in many years. Weird world we live in. My older son has some large trees too close to his house, second son only has one that could reach the back of his house. This place has some tall pines in the back. None at this section though. No big trees near my daughter either.

JOAN  I am so glad that Joe got to you before the storm hit. I wish him a safe trip home.  I really worried about you. 10 years ago we had hurricane Irene that hit in Mass. Pretty bad, that is the one that went inland and hit either Vermont or NH. The day after that storm I called my Sis in law and her son answered the phone. He was working and got a call from her life line. A friend rushed him home and he found she had died.  Did not know if it was her time or if because on no power her oxygen stopped.  Now you know why I was worried. I was closer to her than any of my own sisters. You raised a loving and caring son.

PHYLLIS  no tornado please, God.

LARRY  good to see you here.  Is Molly the only one left in the area Matthew is reaching we have not heard from?

HAL  how would you like some of that rain Mathew has too much of?  Without the winds of course.

JACKIE  Jane did say she was tired a few days ago. I do hope she is OK.

Was hoping to see a post from Amy but could be she is taking care of her DH or  at the hospital if that is where he is. The day here stared sunny and warm. I just closed the window near where I am sitting. It is now cloudy and the air feels raw and damp.

Vanilla-Jackie--You're right about computers.

Jeanne Lee--Are you using a continuous flow oxygen?  If so it should just flow automatically, unless there's an obstruction someplace.  Yes, caring children are a blessing.

Callie--Thanks.  Joe called about five minutes ago and had just arrived home.  He made it in 8 hours--must have had a heavy foot.

Gloria--Many things could stop working with loss of power but my oxygen is not one of them, since the system I use doesn't require oxygen.

Joan, my problem with inhaling is that my nose and nasal passages sometimes get clogged up.  It's not the flow of oxygen - that's fine, it's just making my nose breath it in.   :D  so the solution is to limit activities until things loosen up so I don't need as much oxygen.  I sure don't mind an excuse to do less   ;D

Well, it's one of those days. I posted this morning, but did not use notepad. I remember clicking on post, and when I came back later...no message of mine was posted. So I goofed somewhere along the line. Sorry about that kids, but I will not try to repeat. I don't know why, but my mind is not operating at full power today. I do plan to go down for one program today, Brain and Body fittness. It sounds just like something I need.

I am SO thankful all is well in Melborne. That was a scary thing for a while, but know our Bis was not alone sure helped tremendously. I pray there is nothing dire happening in the Carolinas.

And I pray Lloyd is resting and healing. It sounded like he was in trouble today.

I too am wondering about our Amy's husband. A three hour surgery can take a lot of both of them.

Jeanne Lee, I use a saline spray for my nose and it helps, is your doctor aware of this problem ? If not, I would sure notify him. You need that oxygen.

Okay, here I am to pay a debt to a lady I know in Oklahoma who is more than likely now running around whooping and hollering and carrying on something terrible and laughing her head off thinking of the dumb last play Texas run.....

:-*    for Miss Callie.

Oh, well, maybe next year.

Thank you, Hal.  That was a "squeaker"

I'd probably be celebrating like you said  if I weren't working so hard to get All My Children's OSU Cowboys to catch up to Iowa State.

Jeanne Lee--Thanks for the explanation.  Now I understand.

June--I pray all in this monster storm's path stay safe.

halkel--At least you pay your debts promptly.:)

Callie--You collect from halkel and now you have to work to get a win for OSU.

Went down for some games this afternoon, and it was fun. Now home and I plan to make a couple of microwave fried eggs for my supper, along with some fruit and stuff. Then if I can muster up enough energy I will go back down for another game of music bingo tonight. I'll see how it plays out. This body will let me know what it can do.....hour by hour.

We had a beautiful day today, sunny but not hot.

Amy, I am sure you are weary dear and I appreciate your coming in re the surgery. Hospital is the best place for your DH for a while, and you rest too !!!!!

Bis, I am sure you are breathing a sigh of relief about now. God heard our prayers.

Good afternoon, It's plus 52 here on a crisp, beautiful sunny day. We are to remain so at least through the 15th. It's quite a change from those wet summer days! I left early this morning to catch the bus for my eye appointment and just recently returned.

The appointment went well. Apparently,  the cataract they first noticed a few years back has only grown a small bit, so he thought no surgery for another five years if it stays at such a slow rate. I did get a new prescription, but no significant changes. Thanks to Medicare, it was an inexpensive outing!

I met a friend, and we drove out to her place in North Pole for lunch and a visit. We gave her daughter and daughter's friend a ride as well. The daughter's friend, an Army wife, has been here going on her second winter, works at a mall and since she enters the highway, off the base to go to her work, has never been in town. Yet, she says there's nothing to do in Fairbanks, no huge malls, clubs or water parks!

So we have five rivers, several store anchored malls and a number of events but only two dance clubs,(Nothing like outside with doorkeepers!); and a whole slew of University events, community and museum events as well as several dance troops, theatrical and musical groups, chamber music, and concerts, restaurants, bars, sports bars. Yet there is nothing to do in a place she has not even bothered to investigate!

A couple of surprises about the small city of North Pole. Fairbanks is situated at a higher elevation, and we are partially on the foothills as well as the valley floor. We are surrounded by forests and five rivers with the accompanying sloughs, creeks, ponds, lakes and hot springs. This week has been in the early fifties, going down to plus 21 to plus 23 after midnight. We have a small amount of frost in the mornings that quickly burns off.

North Pole, 26 miles to the south, is on flat ground, part of a flood plain with fox tails and tussocks and a river running on the north side and the south side. The city and surrounding area are on the average, about twenty degrees cooler and some of their smaller creeks remain frozen at one in the afternoon. Their grocery store, parking lot, had a large puddle in one corner, that had apparently been frozen at one time, and there were ice chunks from where cars had driven over or through it.

Now, why is a town 26 miles south of us colder by ten or more degrees? Is it the higher elevation, more buildings or something else I don't understand? I would think we would be colder because of the amount of water in and around Fairbanks. One of life's little mysteries.
