CallieOK

Good Evening,

Jenny, I certain understand your caravan not stopping in OKC. Just glad you're not driving back to Denver - four feet of snow????  Yikes!

Jean, you mentioned the Jane Austen books.  I just finished "The Jane Austen Society" by Natalie Jenner, a novel set in 1945 about a diverse group who live in a small English Village where JA lived while writing three novels.  The author states that the characters and the events are fictional but the setting and houses mentioned are real. She weaves the individual stories into the forming of the Society, which is apparently, also real - but not like the one in the book.

Son took me today to get vaccinated. My handicap card allowed me the choice of going inside the large site or staying in the car and getting the shot there.  I chose to stay in the car and was very impressed with the organization and ease with which it was done.
Sons had had a good time teasing me about being awarded with ice cream if I was "A Good Girl".  We stopped at Braum's for a cone on the way home.  ;D

Arm isn't sore - yet - and I hope I don't have the side effects the info said could happen the day after.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Callie, I was also one who suffered no reactions, which with my sore foot, I was thankful for.  My last shot will be here at home on the 18th. They, the state,  opened it up to 16 plus this past Monday, so that's good.

We are back in the minus twenties with highs of small plus degrees. We've also had enough snow that they're warning everyone to keep their roofs shoveled and clear of the very wet snow. And the graders and dump trucks run every night.

Other than what's on my computer, absolutely nothing local is new, so I hope others are doing better.

Marilyne

Callie - I read "The Jane Austen Society", a couple of years ago, and also enjoyed it.  I think it might have been made into a movie, but not sure?    Glad you got your Covid vaccination completely out of the way. I wanted very much to get the J&J vaccine, but alas, it wasn't to be.   I got Moderna.  I've heard that none of the J&J has been distributed in California - that it's all been Pfizer and Moderna.

Patricia - Sorry that you;'ve dropped back into the minus degrees once again.  Spring is almost here, so temps will be slowly climbing up everywhere, I hope.

Jean - Yes, I joined Ancestry.com, and did the DNA test.  It's been extremely interesting to see the names of my "DNA Matches".  I have connected with a few of them by email.  I have been in contact with two women (third and fourth cousins. Also one man, who is a second cousin.   My three children also joined, plus a couple of the grandchildren, so of course they are the ones who are closest as to DNA.   I recommend Ancestry, and I think you would really like seeing the names of all the people out there who are DNA connected to you.  I also joined 23 and Me, but I didn't care for the way it was set up, and found it hard to access information there.

Jenny - Your car trip sounds wonderful!   You are probably visiting your Dad today, and I can just imagine how happy he must be to see you, and also to see Mark and his family.   I hope you enjoy the rest of the drive, and that the weather will continue to be mild and sunny, all the way to Arkansas.  Please keep us posted?

CallieOK

Well, so far so good with "day after" vaccine.  Arm isn't even a little bit sore (hope I'm not speaking too soon!).  However, it may be hard to tell the difference between vaccine reactions and my usual squeaks and creaks.

Marilyne, the J&J vaccine has just arrived in Oklahoma.  I had planned on waiting until it was available at my local pharmacy but when I saw on the county health website Monday afternoon that it was available at a site on the other side of OKC and there was a convenient slot open....I took it!  Son had already said I should do that whenever/wherever I could and he would see that I got there - and he did.

They were also doing #1 and #2 of Moderna and those slots were filled before I found mine. Fifteen minutes after I got my confirmation e-mail, all the J&J slots were filled. They weren't doing Pfizer.

I found the "Jane Austen Society" while browsing the available e-books from library.  Have read several of her books and enjoyed them. However, not being a good interpreter of literature, have never quite understood the fascination with finding deeper meaning in her stories.

Heard on the noon weather that the start of a stormy weekend could arrive as soon as mid-afternoon so I got my rear in gear and made a trip to Walgreen's.  That's becoming my "mini-market". :)
Also checked bird feeders and turned the bird bath dish right side up so the rain can fill it.

That's what's going on in my little corner of the world.

Hope Everyfriend is having an enjoyable day.

patricia19

Good morning from an Interior at minus 29°. At least the snow has temporarily stopped with the cooler temperatures. Spring here is ugly as it is a thirty-day period of runoff, browns, and grays and then that elusive sign of green in the trees before an hour where the whole earth or at least our portion of it simultaneous greens. Usually, the snow is gone by Easter, but this record-smashing winter snowfall isn't melting anytime soon.

My good news is after thirty days of pain, solitude, and bed rest, I can see an end to this. Instead of the pain radiating through my entire left side and guzzling Tylenol, It only hurts if I overdo it in the mornings and I'm thinking of going out sometime next week on my own to do a few neglected errands. No walking or anything too elaborate, taxis both ways but at least it's an end to a very long tunnel!

MarsGal

Great Patricia. I am glad you are finally seeing some real progress with your healing.

Callie, I am also waiting on the J&J vaccine. Right now, there don't appear to be vaccines available here, no matter who made them. My sister insists that vaccines are available. Where she is getting that info I don't know. Even the phone number she gave me states they are out and to pre-register on the website and check back to see available appointment times.

Day 2 with no side effects!   Info said "2-3 days after a possibility" so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Patricia,  so happy you're feeling stronger and wishing you luck with your outing.

MarsGal, Oklahoma County Health Dept. has a website that lists sites in the county that have scheduled clinics, the date and the vaccines they are giving.  There's a link to each one that shows if there are slots available and, if so, you can scroll down to see which ones are.  Not all counties have this - and I suspect not all states do, either.  I just happened to check the site in time to get in..

This morning I learned that Sir Carson has been offered a job after graduation from OSU in May and Dr. Emily is "in a relationship".  (Not sure what the Facebook definition of that is  ::))  I knew she was seeing someone but didn't know it had gotten to this point.

Weather is damp and gloomy but I've managed to tend to the bird feeders and get the mail.
Three e-books I'd had on Hold have arrived so weather can do what it will.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

We are having some beautiful weather.  We have those storm doors that you can pull down the top glass and have a screen.  It feels so good in the afternoons to enjoy the fresh air when the temps are in the 70s.

The new additions to our library system digital system are mostly audio which I don't enjoy (despite the lovely reader voices).  And, sure enough, I am disappointed that The Jane Austen Society book is only audio.

Patricia, I'm glad that you are feeling so much better!

Hi, Jackie, Joy, Beverly.  Thinking of you and hoping all is going OK?

It is a very quiet Sunday.  I hope you are all having a good Sunday and are feeling well.

Marilyne

Jean - Nice to see you checking in this morning. I guess it's way past morning now - actually it's about 2:30 here.  However I did look in first thing when I got up, and saw your message!  It's a quiet Sunday here too. The weather has turned cold, and we're expecting a few drops of rain tonight.  I spent some time in the backyard earlier, cleaning out the birdbath, and sweeping the deck and walkways.  That's about as much outdoor energy as I am capable of, in recent weeks.  Hope I'll accomplish more when Spring officially arrives.

Jenny - I hope we hear from you today?  How long did you stay in AZ with your Dad?  I hope he's doing okay, and Diane too?  I see on the Weather Channel, that there will be lots of Winter storms in the next couple of days, and many of them look to be along your planned driving route.  They mentioned that the Texas Panhandle, will be especially hard hit, so I hope you're not driving in that area?

Callie - Congratulations to Sir Carson, on being offered a job, upon his graduation in May.  What has he majored in at OSU?    Also, nice to hear that Dr. Emily is now, "in a relationship"!  (Facebook parlance) LOL!  She has worked hard for many years to accomplish her goals, and now it's time to have some fun, and maybe fall in love! (or is that now an old fashioned term??)  :-\

shirleyn

Good Morning to all.  Sorry I have not been in all week..  It seems I am a person of habit & once I stop doing something, I just find it difficult to start again.  Sigh!  Anyway, I did not have anything to write about – it is the same old, same old.  Day in and day out.  I am looking forward to getting back to what was normal, do not think that will ever happen, though.  I heard on the news that the sale of cigarettes is way up again.  Seems people have gone back to smoking & they think it is because of the pandemic.  Silly, foolish people.  Well, that is my input for the day, I hope everyone is healthy and happy this Monday morning.

Shirleyn, No sweets here this morning except for the sugar that I added to my strawberries.  We've been enjoying our Florida strawberries every day.  Larry eats his with ice cream and I eat mine with a dab of whip cream.  They will soon be gone so we are enjoying them while we can.

Marilyne, We are having such beautiful weather.  I haven't been able to do any yard work for a few years because of my back.  Now that our son-in-law cuts and trims the yard, Larry helps me with the house chores.  This is the time of the year when some of my favorite authors publish new books so I've been busy reading.  My son and daughter-in-law usually give me one or two Amazon gift cards a year and I spend them on books for my Kindle app on my iPad.  I'm really getting into this digital reading which I never thought would happen.

We haven't heard from Beverly in a while.

Patricia, I hope you are continually feeling better?  When will your weather start warming?  Hopefully, life will be normal in a few months.  You haven't mentioned your friends that have the kittens in some time.

Jenny, how is your trip going?  Hope all is good for you and the family.  Moving to a new area will be an adjustment for your son and family.

Well, another day and I hear some bombing so the training must have resumed.

Good morning from a very cold Interior, but then again, it's not snowing. Absolutely nothing going on here. I thought my foot would be better, and it is as long as I don't stand on it. That idea of going shopping this week has been canceled. Spring normally would have started with the snow gone by Easter. With this year's record-smashing snow and humidity and now minus temperatures, that's not going to happen.

Jean, if you mean my local friends with cats, they're still isolating, more so now that the husband contracted Covid and figures it was on a grocery trip. He's the one who cut my hair for me last month. If you mean the ones who have a Youtube video series on fostering, they're not currently fostering due to Covid.

Marilyne

shirleyn  -  I missed not seeing messages from you for a few days, but I didn't show up every day this past week either!  ::)  :D   Some days, I do a lot of computer posts,  both here in S&F, and on Facebook.  Other days I just sit around like a slug, and either watch TV, or read.  I think today will be one of those sluggish days, after I finish this message.   Last night I didn't sleep much at all - only an hour or so before sunrise . . . so today I'm tired, and will take it easy.

Patricia - I've been meaning to ask you about the cat foster family.  I figured they were on a long break, until the Covid crisis is officially over.  I did enjoy watching those kittens grow up from newborns, to ready for adoption.  I didn't realize that any of your local friends had Covid!    Sorry to hear that, but hope that he is recovering okay?

Jean - Wish we had some of your Florida strawberries here.  We do have strawberries in a couple of markets, but they're grown in Mexico, and are almost totally juiceless, and tasteless as well.  Our California berries are usually in the markets by late April or early May.  I'm looking forward to them!  Right now, not much fresh fruit available, except for citrus, and apples, and of course the ever present bananas!  As for fresh veggies,  asparagus, is still plentiful and delicious, as well as avocados.

Callie and Jenny - I responded to both of your messages yesterday, so hoping you saw them, and that we hear from both of you today?

CallieOK

Merry Monday,

Envying those of you who are enjoying fresh strawberries. Yum!  Son says his plants are just beginning to peek out.

Stormy weekend stayed west of us and I actually spent most of yesterday afternoon reading on the patio.  Did have to wear a sweater but oh, how nice to be outdoors and be able to leave the door open to air out the house.

Marilyne,  Carson will graduate with a degree in Construction Management/Engineering.  He learned last summer that he was one class away from being able to declare a double major; unfortunately, that class is only offered once a year and the timing didn't fit into his schedule.  He hasn't always been the most diligent student and we are all so proud (and amazed) at how well he's done in the past several semesters.

No current report on job offer or romance.  ;) And, yes, Amy, I sure do remember my first romance - which ended with my heart being broken  :'(  However, that led to my decision to accept a teaching position in Amarillo and an introduction to the guy who would become my hubby.  :smitten:

Today is the day Jenny/family were to begin their trip to Arkansas. They will probably be on I-40 for a long stretch of open flat country but weather forecast sounds as if it won't be stormy like it was over the weekend.

Didn't wake up until after 9:00 a.m. and need to Get Busy.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

shirleyn

Good Tuesday morning everybody!  Coffee and tea are hot & ready, help yourselves.  Also have some warm biscuits and strawberries set out for anyone who wants them.

Today I go to a doctor (surgeon) to have him look at a cyst type thing on my back.  It started out as a boil & would never stop seeping & heal up.  My doc said it should be surgically removed or it would continue to turn into a boil (this was already the second boil in that same area).  Cannot have that, those things sure do hurt.  So, that is my story for this day.  I hope you all are having a better day to look forward to than I do.

Jean, I am unable to do yard work also – lower back problems (arthritis).  I used to walk every morning, but not any more.  Also I can pull weeds for about 5 minutes & have to give it up.  We have our lawn mowed by someone & once a year this fella comes around for to do yardwork.  I have him trim hedges & trees, etc.  Also he cleaned out the eaves one year.  I would like to sell & move into one of those places where one has to do nothing.  They feed you and clean your apartment, etc.  Hubby does not like that idea, so I am stuck fretting over the undone work.  Sigh!

Patricia, sorry to hear your foot has not healed up yet.  That is a real bummer.  At least you have your kitty for company – which is one consolation.

Marilyn, one time Danny and I were in Calif. and we tried the strawberries there, but they were very tasteless.  Perhaps they were from Mexico.  Oh yes, I agree our sleeping habits are very much alike.  I often am awake most of the nights & get maybe an hour or two just before it is time to get up.  Makes for a sluggish day.

Callie, your afternoon on the patio, reading, sounds like an ideal day.  Although we do not have a patio, but do have a screened in porch, but we do not make use of it.  A shame, when we first moved here we had it made and furnished it with nice furniture, but that was the end.  I guess as we got older, we got lazy about going out there.  Danny even wired up the record player so we could hear music out there.  We enjoyed a few suppers out there, but that was all.  Sigh!

Thinking about Jenny on her trip & hoping to hear from her soon.

Good morning. I'm doing better today, but it has been 33 days, and they did say two to four weeks! I'm impatient, and  I feel better one day and worse the next. My arthritis is affected by barometric pressure, and with the snow and alternating cold weather, it's been all over the place. I wonder if that could be affecting the sprain? Or perhaps I'm trying to do too much?

As you can see, I'm a grouch.

Yes, my friend Alan and his wife, Dora, have Covid, but they're isolating.

Amy

Patricia, you dear lady are not a grouch.Oscar(the grouch ) may be one but not you. You have endured this pandemic much better than a lot of folks.

Beautiful sunny day here and so far no snow.. :)

Marilyne

Patricia - I agree with Amy . . . you are not a grouch!  You haven't seen grouchy, until you're around me, for a few hours!   ::)    Seems I always have something to complain about, every single day, when it comes to health issues.  I can't imagine what it must be like to be alone every day, with this Covid plague raging everywhere.  It helps to have someone in the house to talk to, and I know you don't have anyone.    I didn't realize that both Alan and Dora, have Covid! Sounds like they are doing reasonably well, so I hope they are both back to normal, ASAP!

shirleyn - I hope you get that cyst/boil, taken care of today, before it gets any worse!  Those things have a way of suddenly getting out of control, and then they have to be drained, and you have to take a round of antibiotics.  :P  I usually find that the antibiotic is harder on me, than the original reason for taking it.  Last night I actually had a fairly decent night's sleep!  I was so exhausted from almost no sleep the night before, that I went to bed early (about 9:00) and fell asleep right away.  I did wake up off and on all night, but was easy to get back to sleep for a change.

Yesterday I mostly just sat here at the computer, or in front of the TV.  I watched an OLD movie that I had recorded off of Turner Classic Movies, called The Clock.  It was a black and white movie from 1944, starring Judy Garland, and Robert Walker.  Not a musical. He is a soldier on leave, and she is a secretary.  Just a sweet old fashioned love story about a couple who meet at Grand Central Station, during the War Years.  It was definitely a "feel good" movie, and I was glad I watched it!

MarsGal

No sun today, and it is chilly at only 43o.

Two more ships are venturing out onto the lakes. Herbert C. Jackson made a trip from Detroit to Cleveland yesterday. Today, I see that Kay E. Barker is heading to Ashtabula, but she is still on Lake Michigan heading towards Mackinaw. The Welland Lock will open on March 24 and Soo will follow on the 26th.

This morning I was treated to at least nine elephants at the Tembe cam after not seeing any or maybe just one the last few weeks.

Vaccinations are a slow and low roll-out here. I am pre-registered at the local hospital site, am registered to get an alert email from my insurer, and keeping an eye out for CVS which will be getting the J&J vaccine - sometime. The J&J is the one I would like, but I don't think they are letting you choose. Well, I am not in a hurry.

Amy

Callie, a broken heart but just look what you did find! A wonderful man who stole your heart and kept it!

Denver

Tuesday night and we are in Sayre Oklahoma.  We were to spend the night in Amarillo TX, but a terrible storm is heading towards us and we decided to move on.  They are reporting a strong winter storm to arrive during the night....we just hope it will not be too sever.

The packers of our sons household goods kept putting them off and off so that sure was not good.  They were to arrive Wednesday or Thursday....ended up getting there Saturday afternoon.  They worked for a couple of hours then the two guys got in a fisticuff and one quit and sat n the cab of the truck fo a couple of hours...our son helped the remaining guy and they got it loaded up!  😩😤🤪

We arrived at my Dad and Diane's on Friday.... Dad was so happy to see us and of course we were thrilled to see them.  Son and Family came on Sunday and we had a nice visit.  We all started the LONG drive on Monday morning and it was very hard to say goodbye to Dad.  We stayed in Albuquerque New Mexico last night.

Today I got a surprise visit from a Texas State Trooper.  We were ALL driving along the interstate ....500 semis trucks and tons of cars....the patrolman came up beside me.....then dropped back pulled in and turned on his lights......seems he picked Lucky Me out of the crowd of cars...he gave me a warning ticket....going eighty in a 75 MPH.  We all swear he picked me as the car we are driving has California plates!  He was very kind BUT.....the funny thing is we had cars and trucks flying by us all day long....the three of us were all just going in the slow lane, my son leading today....his speed control was set on 76 and we were all just staying up....oh well!

Thank you for all the nice wishes for our drive....we are getting tired, but will be arriving at their new home soon.

Take care and good night to all.

Sounds like an adventure, Jenny. I remember long ago getting onto the interstate a day when it was extra crowded and everyone was going way over the speed limit. Scared me a bit, but I thought it best to keep up with the crowd. I had heard that slow vehicles in a fast crowd can cause accidents. I assume they meant that the fast bunch don't pay attention and end up slamming into you. Now-a-days I avoid the interstates as much as possible. Anyway, I hope your trip is more pleasant and the winter storm has not caused you trouble.

More cooler weather today with a high into the low fifties and maybe some rain showers. Looks like Sunday starts a rash of weather into the sixties.

shirleyn

Good Morning to all this loverly morning.  Another beautiful day predicted in the hi eighties.  I'll take it!

Patricia, I agree with Amy and Marilyne, you are not a grouch.  Just impatient to get the healing done.  Of course that is something you cannot hurry up.  So, sit back & relax & let the healing happen!

Marilyne, I did get that cyst taken care of yesterday.  No pain, just a little prick of the needle, which deadened the area, and then he cut it out.  I felt more pressure than anything.  And now I have a big patch on my back.  He said I would have to change that daily, but of course it being on my back where I cannot see it, I will have to have a visiting nurse come to do that.  Danny is not good at that type of thing.  I kept asking him to look at the cyst, cuz I could not see it except with only a mirror, and all he would say was that it looked the same.  Hmmmm, big help that was.  Anyway that is all over and done with.  Thank God!

Marsgal, we got the Moderna shot – did not have a choice.  I hope you get yours soon.  I am not that well read up on the different shots, so do not know which one is the better or best one.  I was just happy to get it & have it over with.

Jenny, so glad to hear of your progress on your trip, hoping that you arrive soon and safely.  Thanks for keeping us up on your travels.

And that is it for today, which will be a day of rest for me – hmmm, rest from what I could not tell you.

patricia19

Good morning, nothing new here except I receive my second vaccination tomorrow.

Marilyne

Happy St. Patricks Day to everyone!  Hope you're all wearing something green, and that you'll enjoy eating some corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight!   We're going to go to the store this afternoon, and hope that they might have some there in the deli -  cooked and ready to eat! I'm not too fond of it, but AJ likes it, so he can pick out what he wants.

shirley - Glad the cyst is gone, and that it was a fairly quick procedure.  I hope it heals quickly, so you won't have to bother with the bandage.  I don't know if AJ would be willing to take on the bandaging chore or not?  He's been known to put a Band-Aid, somewhere that's hard for me to reach, but I think that's as far as he would go.  Good that you have a visiting nurse who will come to your house.

Jenny - I'm thinking about you, and hoping that you're avoiding all of the terrible weather we keep seeing on the news!  I'll get the atlas out again, and take a look at exactly where you are, and how far you have to travel.  Apparently, Colorado, was hit really hard by this storm, so be glad you missed that.

Patricia - It will be a relief, when your vaccinations are completed!

I'll plan to come back later today, after our hunt for St. Patrick's Day food!  I missed saying hello to Callie, Jean, Amy, Sandy and MarsGal! :hello:

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Wild weather in Oklahoma the past 24 hours!  Jenny and family were not too far from the central western boundary with the Texas panhandle..
During the night, there was (and still is) a blizzard in the northwest part of the state, tornado damage in the southwestern area and high winds/hail/rain "all over the place".

They will have to drive all the way across from west to east - possibly angling northeast in OKC toward their destination.  Will be interested in learning about this leg of their trip.

Sir Carson has accepted the job in Bentonville and expects to start within a month after graduating from OSU in May.
He says he'll be based in B-ville but may get sent to locations in other states where the company has construction projects going on.

Not sure why but I've felt "disgruntled with the modern world" today. Had great plans to "attend" Book Club via Zoom this morning and then Get Busy With Domestic Duties.

Stuck with the Book Club for about 30 minutes and then left. Got one duty done and have spent the rest of the time in the recliner "grumbling" at the weather reports, playing solitaire and reading on Tablet.

Onward and Upward.

Denver

Just checking in to say we are fine and will drive to Arkansas tomorrow.  There were storms ALL around us today....including tornado warnings in Springdale where we are headed tomorrow.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Morning all!

Chilly day today with rain. Temp is 44oF and won't move too far off that all day.

Forgot to mention the other day, when I got to see the them gathered again at Tembe, that one of the elephants is now sporting a radio collar. This morning when I checked the site the only things in sight were two humans sporting backpacks and guns. This is the first time I have seen humans on the cam.

Otherwise, nothing much of interest to report.

Safe travels, Jenny!

Marilyne

MarsGal -  Interesting that you saw human beings on the Tembe site?   I check it often, and rarely see any animals, much less, people?  I want to get back to checking all my Great Lakes cams every day.   I've looked at  the Duluth Canal/Bridge cam a number of times over the Winter months, but haven't looked at any of the others.  One that's always interesting, year around, is the NYC Harbor Cam.

Callie - Good for Sir Carson, that he was offered a job, in the field he's interested in pursuing.  Now he and Miss Emily are settled, so I'll be rooting for Miss Ellen, to get a part in the chorus of a Broadway Show!  It's time for her to get a break.

Jenny - Looks like you've missed the worst of the storms, but still have a ways to go to Springdale.  I hope the weather clears by the time you arrive, so you can help Mark and family get settled in their new house.

We did enjoy our St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinner.  The meat was a little too tough for me, but I did eat a few bites, and liked the cabbage and red potatoes.  Saturday is our son Brad's birthday.  He will be 60!  :yikes:  How did that happen? LOL   We have a present ready, but haven't made any definite plans yet.
