Jean - In case you look in again today, I want you to know that I found your i-message last night.  I hope you received my reply?  I'll write again later today.

Marilyne

Good morning everyone.   It's hot here too - supposed to be in the mid 90's today.  We will be attending a graveside  Memorial Service today, so hoping there will be a shade set up of some  kind?  If not, we will deal with it somehow.  This service is for the husband of my old friend Joye, who passed away a few months ago.  He only lived two months, after her service at this site in early May.

MarsGal - Sorry I missed the tall ships this year. Lots going on, and I forgot all about the Challenge!   Such a beautiful sight to see.   Hope you did okay with the antibiotic pills for Lucy and Oscar?   That was something I never had success with . . . trying to administer medicine to a cat!  It was easy  with dogs, but impossible with cats.

Mary Page - Hard to believe that baby Cleo, is already eight  months old and crawling around the house.  Then it's only a short time until they get up on their feet and start walking!
I heard from Jean/FlaJean and will return later today with an  update on how she is doing.

Beverly

Another warm day here in Florida and more rain is expected later. We shut off the sprinklers for now. Maybe it will help on the water bill!

Marilyne - I'm looking forward to an update on Jean. I've been "out of the loop" for so long that I didn't realize she had serious health problems. I'm so sorry to hear that. She's had to deal with so many family problems in recent years.  I hope they will have some shade at the graveside service for your friend. It doesn't take long to be overcome by heat when the sun is shining.

In spite of the fact that my health issues are chronic and progressive and I have extreme fatigue, my general health is quite good. To see my blood test report you would think I'm fine!

MaryPage - Your Chloe is at a wonderful age where she is beginning to explore things. You may not remember that when my great-grand-twins were born you predicted that Beverly was going to be a challenge. You were so right!  :)

MarsGal

Marilyne, I hope you are able to manage the heat today. Here it is currently 75 but oh so humid. It was supposed to be in the 80s again but doesn't look like it now. We are supposed to see some rain this afternoon. It will likely be just a sprinkle or quick shower if we actually get anything at all. We have not had a soaking rain for a few weeks now and the grass is showing it. The good news is I don't need to mow it just yet. Forecast for the next 10 days looks like the last week or so, 80s and 90s.

I started Lucy on her antibiotic this morning and it seems to be perking her up some already. She gets a dose once a day for seven days, and then twice a week to finish the bottle. I was surprised at how easy it was to give it to her, but she wasn't very awake and certainly not expecting it. Per the Vet, because her nose started bleeding again and didn't want to stop, Also per the Vet, I am confining her to the computer room to keep her in a cool room. She objected only a little and seems to be more or less content for the moment. I've been spending time in here with her off and on.

Shan has been very put out that he can't get to her. He was harassing her a bit more than usual the last day or two which was stressing her. Right now, it looks like he might be bleeding a bit in his nether parts again. I have to try to lasso him into the bathroom so I can take a closer look and clean him off, and maybe, if he behaves well enough, cut some of his long hair away from the area. He did that some time back and the vet gave him some anti-itch shot. So, the question I have at this point, is it the heat or is he frustrated? If it doesn't stop, I suspect it will be a trip to the vet for another anti-itch shot.

I am still pushing things around and finding spots for kitchen stuff while waiting for the guys to start work on the kitchen. I haven't heard anything, so I guess the windows haven't arrived yet.

Okay, on to the ships on the Great Lakes. Niagra and the Pride of Baltimore are still in Alpena, the St. Lawrence is making its way slowly up the Canadian coastline. I lost track of NAO Nina. Appledore IV was last pinged in Detroit, but that was 48 hours ago. No telling if it is still there or sailing off somewhere. As for the other sailing ships, the other day I saw a spectacular showing as they were sailing about, back and forth, just above the entrance to the St. Clair. The wind was such that many of them had their spinnakers out which made for speedy travel indeed. Today, there are a whole gaggle of them strung out above from above Port Huron and heading up lake. This is most likely the annual race to Mackinac Island, though I didn't check into it. I knew it was around about this time of year. Also, I wonder if Port Huron is having their annual inner tube event this year. That is always fun to watch. Oh, and Viking Octantis is still plying the Great Lakes back and forth. It is currently in Milwaukee again.

MarsGal

Well, that was long winded. Lots going on lately, so I didn't post yesterday.

One more thing. Destroyer USS Stockdale got back home to San Diego. I could tell they were very, very happy to be back. The ship was decorated with a big red, white, and blue decoration at the front and a very long streamer off the mast. The locals were happy to see them back too. One of the tugs was spraying water jets ahead of them in the harbor. The ship, which was attached to the USS Carl Vincent, had acquired some damage which necessitated repairs in Japan before heading back. so, their normal six month run turned into something a bit longer than expected.

I do hope everyone is doing well today. Are you enjoying the newest James Webb photos? They are spectacular.

Denver

I am having such a hard time getting in here to post. All of my ways I normally come in seem to not work for me anymore.  🤷 It could be operator error🤷

We have had a couple of days to just take it easy and collect our thoughts.  I still can not believe my dad is gone, but I am at peace knowing he would not want to be in any care home😩😩

I have attempted to contact and still living friends and relatives to let them know of dad's passing, but was only able to reach one living relative his age.  She was very confused and it wasn't a pleasant conversation 😩😩

Everyone wants to know when the burial service will be, and they do not realize we have to get his cremains and death certificates before we can get him back to Colorado for his service😩

I am going to post this and make sure I am in the right spot.

More later 🦋

Lots of messages here since I posted yesterday!  :)

Jean - So good to have you with us again!    We're all thinking about you, and looking for a message from you whenever you feel like writing.  Praying that you're comfortable and pain free.

Jackie - I looked at my news page first thing this morning, and read about the horrible heat wave that is sweeping through Europe!  As you said, it will be especially bad throughout England,  tomorrow and Tuesday.  Sounds like you're prepared, but it will be difficult for you and everyone to manage, without air conditioning!

Beverly - Nice to see the long message from you yesterday!  Glad you're feeling reasonably well, in spite of your ongoing health issues.    I enjoyed seeing the pictures you posted in Photos, of all of your great-grandchildren!   It's a wonderful thing, that we have lived long enough to see and enjoy our great-grandchildren. My parents, and most others in their generation,  didn't live long enough to have that pleasure.

MarsGal - Here's hoping your kitchen remodel starts ASAP!  Be sure to take pictures of, "Before and After", so we can all enjoy the changes.   Hope the cats are behaving, and feeling better after their round of antibiotics?

Jenny - Sounds like you're doing reasonably well, since the passing of your Dad.  It takes a while to come to terms with it, as you are well aware.   I know you already went through the grieving process when your mother died, and then the untimely passing of Michele.   I will respond to your email later today.

MaryPage

Oh, Jenny, Jenny, Jenny!  Lots & lots of hugs flying your way.

The news of the climate changes in Europe are most distressing.  I remember they had what they considered to be a "heat wave," according to all of their headlines, back in 1971 when David & I spent a month there.  What was the scalding temperature that June?  Eighty degrees!  It actually reached eighty degrees, and folks were suffering!

But now they have the wildfires and floods all over, and temps of 104 degrees. I feel so bad for them.  For the whole planet.

Beverly, I know what you mean about chronic and progressive and extreme fatigue.  My pulmonologist is still trying to find a walk-around oxygen unit for me; seems they all want to SELL the whole unit to patients these days.  More money to be made that way?  I expect so, but don't actually know.

So I walk around the house doing chores until the fatigue gets to be too much to bear, and I go sit in my easy chair and put on the oxygen from the big stationery unit they rent me on a monthly basis.  My bed is close to the unit, so I have the oxygen all night long, as well.  So I sort of limp along through the days, with the news bits about the great grandchildren spicing up my days.  I also enjoy my TV, and heartily recommend Netflix's new film of Jane Austen's Persuasion.  I already have four (4!) DVDs of movies made of that book, and love every one: but this new one is quite marvelous and has delighted every cell of my body.  And, as you report of your own, I am enjoying great good health other than the long list of ailments that apparently are not on schedule to go away.  Makes me feel rather triumphantly defiant to just thumb my nose at that list and go on going on.

Vanilla-Jackie

Yes our temperature tomorrow and Tuesday at 102 F - 104 F, this will be UK's record...

Marilyne

Good morning everyone.  Today looks like it's going to be an old fashioned  Summer Day, like we remember from the past.  Meaning: No extremes in weather, and no wildfire smoke blowing our way.  Just a typical  July day like we used to have, with bright blue skies and  temps in the 80's.    Reminds me of when my kids were young, and they would spend the afternoon playing in the sprinklers, and drinking Kool-Aid.

Mary Page - I plan to watch the latest remake of "Persuasion", either this afternoon or tomorrow.  Loved the book, and all the old movie and TV versions.  This new one has mixed reviews, because the screen writers, put a contemporary "spin" on the story?  So I'm curious, and will be happy to add my opinion to the mix.

I've heard from Jean/FlaJean.  She has a wonderful attitude regarding her situation, and is doing the best she can, under difficult circumstances.  She is home now, and Larry is there taking great care of her, plus she has Hospice.   Their daughter, Gigi, is going through chemotherapy, and is doing well.

Jackie -  I'll be thinking about you today, and hoping you do okay, during this unusual heat wave.  I'll check the TV news off and on all day, to see how people throughout Europe, are handling the heat.

MaryPage

Jackie, do, please, let us know what kind of temps you have this week.  Freaky stuff!

I am not a Scientist, nor have I taken many courses in Science;  so color me clueless.  But I am and have been since grade school fascinated with History; and so the different weather eras here on Planet Earth have fascinated me from That point of view.

So it happens I have read quite a few books written strictly for the layman, like me.  They have been telling me for decades now to expect (unless our species gets busy and changes our bad habits and poor treatment of our home planet) wild fires and terrible storms and floods and so forth.  It was in reading these books and articles that I learned our own East Coast Gulf Stream circles your island in a cozy blanket that keeps it temperate.  Wow, who knew!

And, if I am remembering correctly, our oceans have an enormous amount of methane in them.  I forget where, exactly.  But when those oceans reach a certain temp in their present warming, they will release this methane.  Then it will be like a set of dominoes; concluding with your Gulf Stream leaving your island.       And Great Britain will once again be plunged into an ice age: it will become a chunk of ice!

Well, Girlfriend, you & I are going to miss out on these events.  I do feel bad about our descendants wondering why we let them down when it comes to preparing for and trying to avoid these cataclysmic events.  I feel kind of sort of cheated, as I will not be able to read History books about how it all comes about;  but then, again: those books will not be written by Our species!

I have been nice and cool and comfortable in my living room today with my new powerful fan going...but my conservatory is like a green house as i opened its sliding door to go water a dead looking plant...Usually this door would stay open but not today nor tomorrow as our weather is going to be even hotter touching the 100 F...
...Yes global warming - climate change is definitely taking place...even Prince Charles and Harry have voiced their concerns on tv today...

MaryPage

It was 111 degrees in Dallas, Texas today.  Supposed to be even hotter out there tomorrow.  It is hot & humid here, but the air conditioning has kept going and we are fine.  Also, we have that marvelous breeze constantly coming from the Chesapeake waters right outside.  We are more fortunate than most.

FlaJean

It is hot here as it is everywhere although not as bad.
Much still to be thankful for. Shocking that the macadam was melting at Heathrow air port. Husband says they will have to use cement or is it concrete?
Climate change is already here but we didn't heed the warnings and still don't.

Vanilla-Jackie

#22037
UK have had all the warnings...global warming - climate change but, now it is happening we still have not been prepared for it...now it is creeping - has crept up on us...Our planet wont last forever whether natural disasters ( acts of God ) or man made...so many people on the verge of destroying it...We have the attitude of "we will worry about it if and when it happens" well it is happening right now...

Renovation starts tomorrow. They plan on gutting it and doing the wiring, then they will be reading to do the dry wall. Meanwhile, it looks like my dehumidifier needs replaced.

Good morning to everyone posting here, or just looking in.  The unusually hot weather everywhere,  is what everyone is talking about, and concerned about.   Same here, only the temps haven't hit 100 degrees yet this week.  Hovering around in the 90's, and we are fortunate to have low humidity.  A few fires are burning in the Sierra.  The one in Yosemite being the worst, because it is threatening one of the groves of 1,000 year old Redwoods.  The firefighters have set up a sprinkler system surrounding the largest of the big trees, to help protect them.

Jackie -  Hoping we hear from you today, that you survived okay, and that the heat has started to subside throughout the UK?  Some of the stories in the news bout the heat wave throughout Europe, are truly frightening.

Jean -  Good to see your post.  Please return today to tell us how things are going in Florida?  We have the blessed fog this morning, and hope you have it as well.  Over the years, I've noticed that the temps here in coastal California, and in your area of Florida, are usually similar.

Mary Page - Same applies to your home on the Chesapeake. Cool breezes and overcast skies are very welcome!  I mentioned in my last message here, that I was going to spend the afternoon watching, "Persuasion", on Netflix.  Other things came up unexpectedly, so I haven't had the pleasure of Jane Austin, yet this week.  I'm looking forward to it, so maybe today or tomorrow?

MarsGal - At Last!   It will be a big mess for a while, but will all come together and you'll soon be enjoying your new kitchen.  What are you going to do for food, cooking, etc. in the meantime?  Hope you have some coffee shops or diners near you, so you can have some reasonably priced take-out, or eat-in meals?

Rick - Good to see you looking into B&T this morning.  How are the temps in your part of the country?  I haven't heard NY mentioned by the TV weather people, so guess it's fairly normal for this time of year?

CallieOK

Good Morning,

These temperatures are ridiculous - but it's happened in years past.  It was 110º - 112º in this area yesterday and that was the air temperature...not the "feel like" which was several degrees higher. One explanation was that so much of the area is in drought condition and that makes it hotter.  There are quite a few wild fires in the western part of the state; one has burned over 1,000 acres.
Weather gurus said the last time it was that hot was the summer of 1936 - when I was 6 months old.  I remember my Mother saying they hung wet sheets around my crib so the fan would keep me cool.

It seems to me that the whole planet is changing - which wouldn't be the first time a major change happened.  Remember the first Ice Age - and the melting of the glaciers that formed during that time?  There were probably people living during those eras and we may be the ones going through whatever this one is.
Difference may be that, with our technology, we want to find someone to blame and expect them to Do Something About It!

I noticed on the National Radar app that Miss Ellen's area in NYC was having wet weather. She/I had a text exchange and I asked her to please send us some of the rain.  She replied that she wished she could because it was 80º and very humid.
At this point, I'd take "humid" if it would be 80º!

MarsGal,  Hooray for the start of the renovation!

JaneS from PA is visiting her daughter in Tulsa and they're coming over here on Saturday.  Her daughter will visit with a friend who has moved to OKC while Jane is at my house for lunch and a good visit.  We've met twice before - once here and once when I was on a tour and a group of what were then Senior Netters took me to lunch while tour group was in Hershey, PA.
They told me we were going to a new chain restaurant that everyone was excited to see coming to their area. It was a "Texas Road House"!   I felt right at home since there'd been one a few miles from me for quite a while.  ;D

Washer is "yoo-hooing".  Off I go.

MarsGal

Marilyne, I will probably be eating stuff I don't need to do dishes for. I have some paper plates and bowls and plastic cups. I've already ordered a delivery of a sub and two wraps for tonight and tomorrow. I'll probably meet Sue for lunch a few times, but not sure when. The microwave will get use with a few frozen dinners once I get to the grocery store and know guy will be keeping the fridge plugged in. It will be sitting in the middle of the room and plastic wrapped. The range/oven is going out on the porch. There is a spot reserved for my microwave in the "media" room. Guess I will have to do without hot tea or coffee. Not sure how the cats will take to paper plates, but I'll make a trip over to the store for some to supplement what I have.

Just North of NYC, ----- Temp is 97°.  Hot and absolutely no breeze. Supposed to reach 90° every day through next Monday. Then it goes down to the high 80s for a while. A bad part of all this is that it does NOT go below 70 over night during this heat wave.

Making sure there is water outside for the wildlife, and a little extra food so they don't have to search for food in the heat.

Glory be......I am still logged in and every thing seems to be going correctly for me🥰🥰🥰

We had a delightful time at a out door venue seeing James Taylor last night. There were a couple of rain showers but my hubby thought ahead and brought one of the large clear drop clothes and we put it over my scooter and us and it worked great‼️‼️. James put n a wonderful show and it was nice to be out in the fresh air enjoying doing some thing more normal for a change‼️‼️

I received a call from my brother this morning and my dads  cremains and death certificates are ready for him to pick up.  He will go down next Tuesday to pick them up.  We are anxious to get them here so we can plan his memorial service.

Lots of talk about how warm it has been everywhere ......here included🥵
I hope you all are able to deal with the extreme heat🙏🙏.

JACKIE, the UK and Europe in general have been in our news and the high temperatures are extremely concerning.  Glad the fan is helping to keep you cool.

JEAN, good to read that although it has been hot there it is not too unbearable.  Hugs to you.

I had PT for the first time in a month, due to othe4 procedures and going to AZ.  PT sad my replaced shoulder felt very good.....full range of motion BUT still limited to the use of the arm due to the nerve damage😩😩  She felt pleased with the two epidural shot locations.  She worked my hip ove good and by the time I left I was in much pain and fatigue d😩🥵🥵 I even came home and took a Aleve and wondered if I was going to be able to go to the concert?  I was.....and being out and about helped me keep my mind off f it and this morning I got up feeling so much bette4‼️‼️ Always so pleased with ANY improvement  and hopes of getting myself back to normal 🥰🥰

I wish you all a good  rest of your day.

MarsGal - Finally on with the renovations! I know a lot of people aren't in favor of the Keurig coffee makers, but the nice thing about them is you can plug it in anywhere and have coffee. You can also use it to make hot water for tea. As long as I can have my coffee and toast I'm happy!  :) Poor kitties must be so confused.

Marilyne - I've been concerned about the redwoods. I hope they're able to contain the fires. I always wanted to see the big redwoods but never made it there. I've only been in the Los Angeles area of California.

Rammel - Is there a lot of pavement near your home? When we lived in New Jersey (Clifton) I tried to stay away from large areas of blacktop because the heat just radiated from it. The night-time temperatures didn't drop much. Same here. It's 85 now at 10:30 p.m.

Jackie - I hope you are doing okay in those extreme temperatures and that it cools down soon.

Callie - I went to the Texas Roadhouse in Tulsa once when we lived out there. Peanuts all over the floor!  :) We now have one here in The Villages. How nice that you and Jane S. are getting together!

Jenny - Sounds as if you and Bob really enjoyed the James Taylor concert. It was a good change from all you have been going through.

I'm getting a much needed haircut tomorrow afternoon. Donna will take me (as usual) and then we might stop somewhere for an early dinner.

It's almost 11 O'clock and it's 81°. Doubt it will get any cooler.  The street in front of the house is blacktop, as is about 30' of driveway. The path from the drive to the house is blue-stone. Both get pretty hot under the daytime sun. Not helping things is that my car is dark green. I try to keep the windows open a bit when it's this hot. Can't open them all the way because we have so many flying friends around. I try to feed them in an area that's not blacktop or walkway, but where the grass is lacking. I'm sure the dirt areas are somewhat cooler. I saw a squirrel grab a peanut and run under the car to eat it in the shade.  96 predicted tomorrow and I must go out  :tickedoff:

Beverly, the cats seem to be taking it better than I. Lucy is particularly interested in getting into the kitchen. This morning Oscar tried to get past me. I had hoped to be able to let them in over the weekend, but that won't happen. The guys had to take up the old flooring instead of their original plan to overlay the new flooring.

Years ago, we had a steakhouse that let the customers pitch the peanut shells on the floor too. Somebody eventually complained. The city put a stop to the peanut clutter, probably using some food safety or OSHA regulation. I can't remember the name of the place. At any rate, it is no longer in business.
