I did see a ship come from the north into the river at Port Huron.  When it got to the area where it disappeared, I switched to the Boatnerd site and while the ship was heading down the river, another ship came northward and stopped on the Canadian side.  That ship was the Mississagi and presently things moved and I watched sand come from the crane and I think it is still going on.  Kind of like watching paint dry, but we never get to see what the ships do so it has been kind of interesting.  Big dump trucks have left the area, supposedly full of sand.  I am not sure that it is sand but it looks like it and I have no idea what it would be otherwise.

Annie stopped by this morning to tell us what is going on in her life.  She always keeps very busy and seldom gets here but she and her dad (Tom) get together often enough to have one-on-one talks which I feel is important to both of them.

MarsGal, I'm sorry to hear about Lucy and I hope you and she get along OK with the hyperthyroid problem.  Especially you, since you're going to have to give her the medicine.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

JENNY - Looks like you're having a wonderful time in Boston.  You and Bob deserve a happy and relaxing break.  Soon enough, you will be back home to whatever awaits?  I'm hoping that it will be good news about both Michele, and your Dad!  Good that Michele's Ct scan showed no new cancer, but sorry that the one she is fighting, has not shrunk enough.  I know she is a fighter, and will continue on with whatever she needs to do.  VERY interesting, about her former job, working for Dr.Andrew Weil! I have read a number of his books, and when I was younger, I tried to follow some of his suggestions.  He is a fascinating man, with innovative ideas.  Now that I think about it, I haven't heard anything about him in a long time??  He must be getting on in years?

PATRICIA - glad that the fires are under control, but now the clean-up will start.  Do your friends Dori and Alan, have any damage to their home?  I know you're looking forward to seeing them . . . also glad they found their missing cat!

MARY ANN - I've once again "lost" my link to Port Huron?  If you could post it, or send it in an email, I would appreciate it.

I was planning to write more and say a hello to everyone, but our son and dil, just arrived, (unexpectedly), so I'll be back later.

Marilyn, this is the link to Port Huron.

Tom tried to get my remote to work in turning on or off my TV and could not, so he gave me a universal remote.  At one time Annie had said she could fix the better remote and I don't know why, but she never got around to it.  If she comes back one of these days, I'll let her try again.

My lunch today was left-over pizza from Tuesday along with a salad, also from Tuesday.  Both were in good condition and tasted good.

Yesterday I went out to lunch with a friend at The Rose Plantation. It's in a lovely old Florida Victorian with antique décor, looking out onto a pond with beautiful grounds. The food and service are great. Since I seldom get out now, it was a welcome change.

Today was much cooler than it's been and it rained this afternoon.

My daughter called with an update. They put a "medi-port" in today for her chemo treatments, which will begin Monday. That way she won't need an IV done each time. Her lymphoma is in stage 1 meaning they caught it early. The plan is for four months of chemo in hopes for a cure. She'll be taking 5 months off from work. We'll see her when we go north in September.

My printer has been giving me problems. I'm trying to print a lot of 4X6 pictures and finally had some success tonight. (Thanks to Chape's help!) It's still not perfect. I started having problems after I got my new computer with Windows 10! How I wish I could still have Windows XP.

Feeling very sleepy so I'll say Good Night!

...I have just google mapped The Rose Plantation in Florida, it shows both inside and outside, just the place i would have taken myself to...it looks stunning, the meals look appetising as well......

Beverly, I hope the plans work for your daughter.  Just think how advanced we have become in the last 25 years.  I will wish the best for her.

Tom has gone to the other end of town to get a bow fixed on his glasses.  He got them at Costco so I assume that is where he has gone.

I'm up but I'm not attem yet, dressed, but that is all.

A tree is being taken down across the road from us, in the complex.  During a windy storm, the tree split so it is coming down.  I think it is one next to a building.

It is trash day and our trash is out.  Tom put his out before he left and I just put mine out.  The truck comes anywhere from noon to 2:30.

It is time to eat something so I wake up.

Beverly, it must have been nice to lunch at the Rose Plantation.  We don't have Plantations around here, but when I was active in DAR (still a member), we lunched at the Voigt House, a Victorian house, and that was nice.  The Voights had a flour factory and the flour was sold around here.

I'm thinking of Marilyne.  Today is her husband's operation and I pray all goes well.  Waiting around at the hospital is going to be very tiring for her.

I can remember when taking a hot shower energized me.  I just took my shower a while ago and I feel the opposite of being energized——just plain tired.  My new computer is out for delivery.  UPS is usually late delivering here so it probably won't come until 7 or so.  I've got so much junk on my old computer.  Apps I thought I needed and didn't use or they were a waste.  I hope I've learned my lesson and can keep it clean and useful.

Mary Ann, the strawberries were pretty good but not as sweet as the first ones that we got that were grown in Florida.  I didn't bother making those biscuits but just ate mine with whipped cream.  My husband prefers his strawberries with ice cream so why bother to make them just for myself.😟  I did get a Pepperidge Farm lemon cake when I was at the store so think I will defrost that for dessert snacks.  We both like those lemon cakes. Yum.

I bought some lemonade in cans and it was good.  But after drinking a couple my lips and several places on my face got bumps.  Too much acid for my system, apparently.  I told my husband to give them to the service people.  If he is outside he will offer the waste people a soda.  Lemonade is very refreshing and I wish it didn't bother me as it has no caffeine or carbonation.  Oh well, I can I will have to stick to water. My cup of morning coffee and a no caffeine cola.

Hope everyone is ok on this hot summer day.  Patricia, it is good to know that the fires are over and you are feeling better, but I'm wondering if the rain is causing you discomfort regarding arthritis.

Jackie, I trust things are working out for you and when the time comes you will know the best way to go forward——stay or go.

MarsGal, how is the cat doing?  Sorry I've forgotten the name.  I don't do so well remembering names.

Good morning from a very wet Interior! Jean, you are right about the rain plus for some reason, I've got a runny nose and acidic stomach, very odd for not going out or seeing people. We've also, along with a weather forecast of eight days of steady rains, not so surprisingly received a weather alert of two to three inches of rain and rapid water rises on Interior rivers locally. Since the city, bisected by five separate waterways; this is concerning, and there are reports of low area flooding. California had mudslides, and we've flooding so I'll just put out that old saw about "When it rains, it pours."

Science articles have reported that the Arctic is burning, Alaska,(plus record high Southeastern Alaska temperatures some never before seen in the S.E.); Canada, Siberia, Greenland, and Scandinavian fires.  And Iceland and Greenland have both reported vanishing glaciers all adding to the record-high carbon dioxide levels released. There have been fires, the last two years; in Greece, Germany, and France. Welcome to the new normal.

"This isn't happening in isolation: This summer has been horrific all across the Arctic.

Unusual wildfires across Siberia, Scandinavia, Alaska, and Greenland have been raging all summer, and by one estimate released about 50 million tons of carbon dioxide in the month of June alone — equivalent to the annual emissions of Sweden. In Switzerland, some glaciers melted so rapidly during last week's heatwave that they sent swirling mudflows racing downhill. In the Arctic Ocean, sea ice is at a record-low extent as the melt season continues to lengthen. In Alaska, ecosystems are rapidly changing, especially in the Bering Sea region where this year's ice-free season began in February."

I hope Marilyne and her husband are okay during his procedure and with the large brush fire in San Diego.

"Gusty winds continue for the Caliente Fire, right now gusts to 18 mph. Expect the fire danger to go up this weekend as another warming trend gets underway."

Mary Ann

Good afternoon.  I've been watching ships much of the day.  One yacht went down the St Clair and attracted a lot of attention.  Someone wrote that it cost $738K+ a week to rent and sleeps 12.  Take two, they're small!

I just turned on the a/c and will turn it off when I go to bed.  I do not want another $95 electric bill.  I will pay attention to the thermometer when it goes on and I wonder if there is something wrong with that.  I am going to replace the batteries in the thermometer.

I, too, hope Marilyn's husband comes along OK with his procedure.

Patricia, as you said, if it rains, it pours.  We have had a good amount of rain, but watching the ships on St Clair River, the water runs over the boardwalks.  The big ships are under a "low wake" ultimatum but the small craft, if they are, ignore it.  Algonac, in particular, has most of their walks under water - the ones by the river, that is.  I hope, for your sake, Patricia, that the heavy rains do not occur.

Jean, I wonder if you drank part of a can of lemonade and saved the rest for a later time if you would not get the bumps on your lips.  I steer clear of caffeine and drink decaf when I have coffee.  I do drink flavored coffee in the morning and while it has regular coffee, it has so many other things with it, that they overtake the coffee.

Tom has been home most of the day and while he probably was working at something, he was not gallivanting all over West Michigan.  He does realize he has to slow down, but when a friend asks a favor, it is hard to say 'no'.  I try to keep my needs and requests at a minimum.

Mary Ann

Beverly

I had an appointment at the doctor's this afternoon and on the way home decided to do something I haven't done for months. I went shopping! I stopped at Beall's. They have shopping carts which give me something to lean on. I bought a pair of New Balance shoes (my standard) some capri pants and two tops that were on sale. When I left the store it started raining by the bucketful.....Couldn't find my car for a few minutes, dropped my keys on the ground and by the time I got in the car I was drenched! ::) The rain was coming down so hard that it made driving difficult. In spite of everything I came home a happy shopper!  :)

Someone asked about my implant complaint and I forgot to answer. I call it my "horse tooth". It's near the front and sits above the other front teeth. I think he decided to make my mouth fit the tooth instead of making the tooth fit my mouth. I was so unhappy that I never went back.

Waiting to hear from Marilyne about her husband's surgery.

Beverly, it was good to see your post.  The previous one was mine at 4 pm.  That was quite an experience in the rain for you.  Evidently, the rain didn't spoil the thrill of the purchases.  Dot used to take me to Beall's in Sun City Center when I'd visit and I'd buy sports things too.

The cat and I just came in from sitting on the deck.  It was so nice, dark, but I don't do anything out there anyway.  I just lean back on my loveseat cushion and enjoy myself.  Kendrick wanders around the deck (10 ft square) and eats some of his grass and some of the quack grass I fixed for him and he lies down and seems to enjoy himself.  I think Tom has gone to bed.

For many years, I would sit on the patio during the day.  It is like our old front porch with a cover.  I had nothing on the deck because it was almost unusable because of the sun in late afternoon.  Now that I don't go down steps, I bought some deck furniture and there is nothing on the patio.

Neighbors on both sides came out and we exchanged greetings but both were happy to be outside and alone.

I watched several ships today, including a beautiful blue yacht that I mentioned earlier.  It is too dark now to bother.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Anybody home?  I know Marilyn has enough to occupy her after AJ's surgery, but where is everyone else?

I've showered, shampooed and had breakfast.  It's a beautiful day to start out and I think there will be no precip.

Tom brought me a blueberry muffin and I was going out on the deck, but ended up watching ships and reading the chats.  I missed Paul while I was showering and I may be lucky to see it in Port Huron.

The father of a friend of Tom's died Tuesday and his funeral was set for Monday.  On Thursday, the friend's mother died so there will be a double funeral.  The friend lives in Arizona but his parents lived in Fremont MI on a lake.

Kendrick did not come in to see me during the night but when I went in to make my bed, there he was.  I was able to make the bed with him on it.

Much ado about nothing!

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning.  Another pretty morning and they still are calling for scattered thunderstorms.  This has been the forecast every day, but so far, we have not seen any rain at all.  Kind of all around us, but nothing here.

I finally got the new medicine that is a low maintenance drug to help with preventing the UTI's.  I got a 3 month supply and will see the doctor in October.  I sure hope it will work. I think I see a difference already.  I had a bad  night, but was able to get a nap after breakfast.

I was hoping to see a message from Marilyne.  Just hope everything went well.

I am hoping to maybe get a few chores done today that I have been putting off and then go sit outside later today.

Mary Ann, how sad about Tom's friend losing both parents so close together.  That happens sometimes when a couple are so close.  There is a couple  who live here that have been married almost 70 years and the wife has started to decline quite rapidly. Her husband just waits on her hand and foot.  We all have mentioned that when something happens to her, he won't be  long behind.  They are such nice people. They got married when the wife was only 14, because she was having such a difficult childhood with a step-mother.  I forget how old her husband was, but they both lied about their age.  They have a wonderful family who come quite often to help out.

Nothing interesting has happened over the past several days.   And, yes, I do notice that  messages are getting less and less  I must try to make sure I , at least, mark my place better. Just  don't have a lot to talk about.  Hate to keep complaining about myself, tho.

I will try to get back later and see if there is a message from Marilyne.

Have a pleasant day.

Joy
BIG BOX

Marilyne

AJ's surgery was completed yesterday about noon, and everything went as expected.  They removed the tumor/polyp, and took lympth (sp?) nodes, which will be tested further. (Results next week.).

We had to be there at 7:00 AM, for him to get prepped for the surgery, then they gave me a number to watch on the screen in the surgery lounge, where I waited for many hours.  It's difficult for me to sit still in a room like that, for much longer than about 10 minutes! It's a very stressful place to be, so I spent most of the morning, walking the hallways, and some of the time drinking coffee, in the small cafe/cafeteria.  The doctor came to the waiting room when the operation was over and talked to me about the results.  After being in the recovery room for what seemed like ages, he was finally taken to his room.  I stayed there with him most of the afternoon, until Brad and Jackie arrived, and then Sandy. It was an exhausting day, but finally it was over, and all was well.  Shelley and Claire will arrive today, and stay until after he comes home, so I'll have them here to help with cooking, housework, shopping and driving.

Thank you all for thinking about AJ and me!  Everything is running smoothly.  I will return later with updates, whenever I can.

FlaJean

So glad to hear from Marilyne that AJ's operation went well.  Good to know she has plenty of help and support from their children.

Joy, I'm glad you have some medication and hope you will be feeling better soon.

Mary Ann, the other day I went to You Tube and subscribed to Stream time (free) and can go to you tube now and hit subscription at bottom of page and see lots of ship webs.  I was just at the Marine City site and it looks like lots of people on the walk by the river are waiting for Paul to come by.

Rammel, in case you look in —— I got my 21 inch iMac yesterday and got it all set up.  Am really pleased with how everything turned out.  I even found out that a couple of my old Apple apps that I have used for a long  time are working on the new system.  They aren't supported anymore but I'll use them as long as they keep working.  I'm a happy camper!

Patricia, enjoyed your post—-very interesting!

Have a good day everyone.

FlaJean

I think I misunderstood about Paul, but the Edwin H Gott is at the Port Huron site (not the jerky site).  Not nearly as big a ship as Paul.

MarsGal

Jean, thanks for asking. Lucy is doing okay at the moment. She developed an upset stomach from the medicine, so, per the Vet's instructions, I am giving her half a pill twice a day instead of one twice a day. I am not sure how long I will do that before trying her back on full a full dose. I am pleased that she doesn't notice the medicine at all. Barring any complications, she goes back in about four weeks to check her blood levels.

Jean, the Paul was stopped at East China this morning but then continued on down the St. Clair. It just passed Algonac. I've seen it do that a few times - stop at several places. It's next port of call is Monroe, which is north of Toledo, OH.

This morning I updated my Windows 10 to version 1903. While it was installing, I went off to feed and check on George's cats. Got back and found, no big surprise, it was waiting on my input to finish installing. Skipped breakfast, ate lunch, and only a little while ago, did I get around to doing some laundry. Got a few more small things to do today, not to mention reading and watching the ships go by.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior and it's third day of drenching rain. We do have some low lying flooding, but that's all. After the 1967 flood, and the Chena Lakes series of dams and spillways they created back then, we shouldn't have more in the city. And I hope the towns and villages downstream fare as well. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm looking forward to our winter!

I'm not going to Alan and Dora's as I've become quite congested. I don't want to pass whatever this is to someone else. I've become such a downer this summer.

Marilyne, I'm glad AJ did well. I know how hard waiting thru a loved one's long surgery can be. I'm also glad you weren't in the Caliente's brush fire's way. It was big on the news here yesterday, probably because of our past fires.

MaryAnn, Farrah's become quite demanding and not as lovely as Kendrick. In the morning, when she sees me stir, in the bathroom or at my computer, she always comes for scratches and rubs. She won't settle but stalks back and forth before me and expects your compliance, my fault I know. She'll turn seven the first part of September.

Joy, if I didn't complain this summer, I'd have nothing to say, I've even complained about complaining!

MarsGal, I'm sorry to hear of Lucy's illness. I know several local cats and dogs locally with feline and canine diabetes which seems to be common here and it requires daily care as with Lucy. Our pets are our children and it's hard to not be able to take the issues away from any of our children!

Patricia, it's interesting what they can do today with metals that we previously thought were untouchable, like gold.  I bought some gold ball earrings from Amazon recently and put them on today.  I knew they would not be solid gold but they are a substance that looks like gold.  I don't feel like getting up to see the card but I wonder if it connected to what you posted.  I don't remember if I mentioned going to the jeweler up on the hill and they did not have any gold balls and what they could get with backs would be from $60 to $100.  I passed.  These cost me $25.  I did not want cheapies, but I wasn't going to get some very expensive earrings either.  These were to replace my "training" earrings where I lost one over a year ago.

Patricia, I'm sorry to hear you are congested.  It may not be a summer cold, but it can act like one anyway.  I've been lucky so far.  Kendrick is rather demanding, but he doesn't keep it up too long.  Wherever I am, he rubs my shins, walking back and forth.  I do not care to have him in the bathroom with me, so I do close the door.  He did not come into my bedroom before I got up this morning but later I went in to get something and he was on the bed and stayed there a long time.

Jean, I saw I had missed Paul and forgot to go to the next cam to see him/her.  I saw all of the people in Marine City and thought they had wanted to see the ship, but I read where there was a kids' fishing contest and I think that is why there were so many people.

MarsGal, I'm happy Lucy is getting along OK.  I upgraded an upgrade yesterday and it took forever and a day to complete.  I notice some changes and as long as I can find the changes, I'm OK with them.

Marilyn, I'm glad to hear things turned out well for AJ.  I know it is hard to sit for a long time when someone is in surgery.  I don't know how I'd do.

Joy, in this case, it is good both parents died within a short time of each other and I don't think it was a case of one going and the other grieving.  Both parents were in very poor health and had recently gone to a nursing home.  The father was very upset but I think the mother accepted it.  Tom's friend lives in AZ so he'll be here for only one funeral.  Tom will go to the funeral.

Mary Ann

Beverly

Marilyne - Glad to hear AJ's surgery went well. Having our children around for support is important. I hope the lymph node tests are okay.

MarsGal - Does Lucy has to be on the meds permanently? It has to be so frightening when she has seizures.

Mary Ann - Kendrick has become a good companion for you. If I were alone I'd definitely have a cat or small dog. I miss my cats and my dog Lucy, but we decided we wouldn't get another one till we were unable to travel.....Too hard to leave them behind. With Lucy I had to put her out in the yard or Chape would take her for a walk while I got the suitcases out and put them on the bed in the spare room. If she saw me with the suitcase she'd follow me everywhere and mope around.

Patricia - I wonder if the smoke has caused your congestion, etc. Even though you weren't out in it, smoke has a way of infiltrating the air in homes.

Joy - Imagine getting married at 14. They've had a long life together. Bless them!

This afternoon someone came to show us how to set up and use the "chest vest therapy" equipment at home. I'll be using it for 30 min. twice a day. The vest inflates and vibrates (strongly!) using high-frequency waves to break up mucous in my lungs. With bronchiectasis, mucous builds up in your lungs and doesn't release with coughing.  Eventually the bronchi get very damaged.  (It's similar to what happens with cystic fibrosis.)

I am missing Larry, as I'm sure we all are!

Beverly, We had smoke seen inside our homes as well, and I had a dry throat. And then to suddenly go from plus eighties and nineties to fifties and sixties with steady drenching rain did a number on me. I went from a dry, scratchy throat to rapid sneezing, coughing, and Sudafed every four hours. And evidently, it's become quite common the doctor on the phone said.

Vanilla-Jackie

Soon to be collected to be taken to church, it was only down to luck my only friend from this isolated and unfriendly parkhome site has once again offered to take me although she does not attend church herself....

MarsGal

Beverly, I expect Lucy will be on the meds for the rest of her life, but I haven't asked the doctor that yet. The medicine is very inexpensive, which surprised me. She seems to be handling the half doses well. BTW, the info on the chest-vest is interesting.

Patricia, I hope you feel better soon.

It is 67o and very humid this morning. Mostly sunny today with a high of 89o expected.

angelface555

Good morning from a still drenched and rainy Interior. I guess it's better than the fires. I can't believe I'm looking forward to winter. However, Mother Nature can still surprise us!

Amy, thanks for the clip! I'm sure you must also be familiar with moose? Regrettably, it is common to have moose/car collisions, and there have been human deaths as well. People tend to not think with an open road and a heavy metal car or truck. We have had moose, as well as bears, enter buildings due to electronic doors and with five rivers bisecting the city, we have a large wildlife community altho many people are in such a rush they never pay attention. It's estimated that we have an in-city population of about 200 moose.

I'm also hoping this cold runs its course. I hated missing the lunch but knew I don't want to pass it along.

MarsGal, I know that Alan's cat has diabetes and requires daily meds. They've gotten used to the special meds, food restrictions and signs to watch for. You're lucky to have inexpensive meds. I know cats can be contrary even when it's for their own good just as human children can be.

MaryAnn, Farrah seems to believe that anywhere I settle is her invitation! She's gone from ambivalent to stalking me!

Mary Ann

Dot and I have been to church and Mr Burger and back.  I don't know what she was thinking, but Dot picked me up for church at 10:05; church starts at 10 am.  I thought something had happened in her family.  We were about 15 minutes late and I think no one cared.  We had a guest minister since ours was in Minneapolis today; he has a son living there.

Tom's former wife just called and she has two sleepy girls with her.  James and Alicia will be here to pick them up but Sue said they also would be bringing lunch.  After a tuna melt and half a piece of pie, I'm not sure I need lunch, but we will see.

Tom will be in Holland this afternoon.

It is about 76 in the house and in the high 80s outside.  I had thought we'd be on the deck, but I think it will be too warm.  When everyone appears, the cat will disappear.

I'd better see how I can neaten this place because it is not neat!

I've been busy all morning but not really accomplishing much.😊

Patricia, I'm also looking forward to a change in weather.  It is lovely here in fall and winter and I am ready for it.😊

Mary Ann, sounds like you are going to be full when the food arrives.  Put some aside for your supper!

We had a ho hum meal but looking forward in a few minutes for a piece of cake.

Beverly, I had never heard of one of those vest.  My oldest daughter's husband has a niece with cystic fibrosis. I imagine using one of those vest makes life more bearable for her.  Although she has accomplished a lot in spite of her handicap.  Graduated college and working In the health field.

Jackie, I'm glad your friend offered to give you a ride to church.

Think I will go check on a couple of the webcams.
