Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

MarsGal, I would love to have seen the video of Chesapeake Bay, it was not available when I clicked on it.

I had an interesting time around meal time,  in fact, after meal time.  By 7:15 I had not received my food.  I also needed to go to the bathroom.  I put on the light.  Finally one of the nurses came to give me some pills and was shocked I had had no food.  She went right away to check and came back with a cold PB and strawberry jam sandwich.  I am not a PB&Strawberry jam fan; my favorite is PB and mayo.  I ate most of it anyway, thinking that was to be my supper.  Shortly one of the aides came with a tray - fish, rice and baby beans, what I think was warm cole slaw. I had peaches and ice cream for dessert.  I liked the warm cole slaw if that is what it was and I'll have to ask.

My pills got downed and I eventually got to the bathroom.

Tomorrow morning I am going to the Spectrum/Butterworth Hospital cardiologist.  Of course, some progress had to be made at Butterworth in order to be here in Rehab.  Anyone who comes in here tells me I look great.  I feel OK, but I know much progress has to be made to go home.

Poor Tom, between my problem and Annie relocating, my next door neighbor had surgery on her back.  He is digesting all three.

The chair I am in is a comfortable recliner but there are two overhead lights ahead of me and it is looking out at the sun.  I have asked for a table lamp and we'll see if I get one.  It would make things much more comfortable; I will not be theraputing all of the time.

Jenny, I thought my post "took" and I almost panicked when your message appeared but mine was nowhere to be found.  The to get it going, I click on Quick Edit and I wanted to do my usual color.

I hope things go well for Michele at the doctor's.  She's been through so much; she deserves a break.

Mary Ann - I suspect that someone got a scolding, because you didn't get your dinner when you were supposed to?  Your tray must have gotten misplaced,  and someone else got two dinners tonight!  ::)  ;D

I keep meaning to ask you if you're in a room by yourself, or if you have a roommate??  I've had it both ways, when I've been hospitalized, and although it's nice to have a compatible roommate, I think I prefer the privacy of my own room.  I know that usually there is no choice in the matter.

Jenny - Sounds like you had a nice Super Bowl party with Dave and Michele and family.   Needless to say, things were very somber today in San Francisco!  :'(

We also had a sudden cold front move in today. Yesterday it was 66 degrees, and today it only got up to 46, with a low of 32 this morning.  I was extremely uncomfortable, and stayed inside, until I went out in the late afternoon to cover my potted tropical plants.

I'll be thinking about Michele, and praying for clear cancer screening results on her Pet Scan.

MarsGal

Mary Ann, I had the same problem with the Chesapeake site this morning. I noticed that where were several other clips that were disable too before I found the one yesterday afternoon. This one is the new posting by the same person from yesterday at Calvert Hills State Park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpWpw_mkYp8 Hopefully it will work for a while this time. Since there are several of these that are no longer active, I guess they are having trouble with their site like LiveStream did with theirs for a while.

This one is posted by Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage Sanctuary which is across the bridge from Annapolis on Kent Island according to Google Maps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLUcHSwtv0Y  The birds and waterfowl are quite verbal this morning.

Good morning, Bait and Tacklers--and especially you, Mary Ann.  You sound very upbeat and I hope you're feeling ever so much better!  I know you'd love to go home, but realize that you need to remain there for your therapy, so hope it is going well.  Keep us posted.

It's not as cold here in Auburn, Alabama, today.  We're supposed to have about 3 days of warmer weather, but so far I don't see any indication of that.

Have a nice day, Every Bait and Tackler!

Denver

Good morning, ALL !

We survived the storm.......it was not as bad as we anticipated. I sure hope as it continues East it will not be too bad for the rest of you in it's path!

I thank you ALL for the kind words for Michele...she does indeed deserve a break and I sure pray that it will be this time for sure!

MARY ANN, I feel badly for Tom.....as you say he has it coming at him from all directions! I am proud of how well you are doing after your heart scare.  They might just send you home sooner than expected.  We sure want you to be well enough to be home though!  Not happy to read that they missed you for dinner last night😡🤬

MARILYNE, we did enjoy our time with Dave and Family and we all were pulling for the 9'ers!

I am off to get some more sifting through stuff done......still cold and messy out, so another good day to stay inside! M

Have a good one!

They have been very good at filling in holes, such as my supper last night.  It was a ham slice with cheesy potatoes, green beans and chocolate cheesecake.  This morning, I had an 9 am doctor's appointment (saw the PA) so left without breakfast.  When I got back, I told them I wanted my breakfast and got it.  This noon I had beef stroganoff which was good but I had had so much water for other reasons, I was stuffed.  I did eat about half of it.  I think I have gained about four pounds so far and it will take me a month to get it off.  Everyone gets the same size portions.  I told someone that I was so bloated from water and food there was no room to breathe.  I've had wall to wall people here today, either telling me things or asking questions.  I could stand a nap but it is supper time.  I've done verbal therapy today.

Mary Ann - Sounds like they are keeping you busy, along with keeping you well fed! (In spite of last night's dinner being late).  Gaining weight is the least of your worries right now, so enjoy those three square meals very day.

I was so mad at myself this afternoon!  :-[  I went to a large grocery store across town, that I don't often go to.  When I came out with my cart loaded with groceries,  I went to where I THOUGHT I had parked . . .  but no car in sight.  So I started wandering around this huge parking lot searching for my car.  I know I looked like a forlorn crazy lady, but what can you do except to keep looking!  :crazy2:  On top of that, it was extremely cold, with a North wind blowing. I did have on a warm jacket, and a scarf, but the scarf blew off my head, and I had to chase it down and bend over to pick it up!  (Oh, my aching back!)  Obviously, I finally found the car and all is well.  That's enough excitement to last me for a long time!

Patricia - That's a good one from Maxine!  If you've ever worn a thong, you know what she's talking about!  ;D

Good one of Maxine, Patricia.  Keep 'em coming if you have them!

I think she was my last person here today and she was the Activities Director.  I am sure my neighbor held that position years ago.   Anyway, she asked if there was anything she could do for me and I kiddingly said "find me a table lamp for the table behind me".  You know, she did.  Now I don't have to look a lamp straight in the face.

I think things may be quiet tonight but I don't know.  The two therapists spent time going over instructionas on how to use their equipment which was boring.

I was able to watch Fining Your Roots tonight.

Marilyn, I got lost in the downtown library one time.  I had something in my arm, but not a load of groceries.

I had a call from Sue, Tom's former wife, and they are going to Tulsa in late February; Tom will go earlier in the month.  I suggested he go and kind of purshed him because Annie needs encouragement.   Much as they dislike each other, they do talk and agree on things for and about her.

Good morning Mary Ann.  It's great to see your post this morning.  You sound up beat and I'm hoping you'll be able to go home soon.  Keep us posted.  Thoughts and prayers for continued improvement from here in Auburn!

Good Morning from a snowy central Oklahoma,

Sometime in the wee hours about 4 inches of snow covered everything.  Fortunately, the morning paper was right up against the garage door so I didn't have to shovel a path - or use the broom to scoop it in.

Pantry is stocked and I have plenty of things to keep me busy.

Mary Ann,  I'm enjoying your "stories" of Life In Rehab.  Keep 'em coming!

Marilyne, I've heard of people setting off their car alarm to guide them when they've forgotten where they parked.

Jenny,  praying for a good report from Michelle today.

Patricia,  love those Maxine cartoons!

Hello to all the Bait and Tacklers.  Wishing Everyone an Enjoyable Day.

FlaJean

Mary Ann, good to hear about your days in rehab.  They are keeping you plenty busy.

We are having a warm day.  Lots of rain to the the west of us.  The sun was shining but now it is beginning to be overcast.

I must get to the store for a few items.  We went to the library yesterday so have a good book to read.  Not much going on in this area.

Have a good day.  Marilyne, about the time your weather warms up we are due for a few colder days. sigh

Marilyne

Callie - Yes, I do have that little red button on my key-fob, that I could have pushed.  I was just too chicken to do it.  I hate to call attention to myself in any situation, and especially in one that's so obvious.  ::)  I knew I would eventually find the car, if I kept plodding along.  The grocery bags were in the cart, so I wasn't burdened with carrying anything but my purse. That particular shopping center is huge, with lots of stores, so lots of cars on acres of parking!  I had never realized before that now-a-days, all cars look pretty much alike, and are all the same bland colors - white, black,  and fifty shades of gray!   ::)  8)  :D

Jean - It's turned cold again here too, and is very dry.  We've had to turn on the sprinklers on, because the garden and lawn is not getting any rain this Winter.  The weather report last night said no rain in sight for the next two weeks.

Mary Ann - I'm looking forward to seeing a message from you today.  It sounds like everything is running smoothly in rehab, and that you might feel stronger than you did before?   Good that Tom, and his former wife, will both be going to OK to see Annie.  From what you have told us about her over the years, I think she'll soon make friends there.  She seems like a very sweet and likable young lady.

angelface555

Good morning, I slept in because I had trouble getting to sleep. Nothing new here other than we've warmed up twenty degrees. I'm still on quarantine.

MaryAnn, I'm always glad to read your posts! And glad you were able to get a lamp behind and not in front of you!

Denver

We did not freeze to death over night, but it sure did get cold.  We are to be in the 30's today, so it is warming up some.  Next snow is to be Thursday late afternoon.....then Saturday some more, 😩 and next week too!

PATRICIA, happy there is nothing new to report from you....glad it is warming up, ( at least for today) and that you HOPEFULLY are feeling a lot better!

MARILYNE, I was sad for you that you could not find your car!  I have seen many people doing this same thing off and on, and my heart hurts for them.  At least you did not panic!  You are right! So many cars look the same and your description was perfect.....especially the 50 shades of gray😘

JEAN, some nice warm weather is good, but look out for the cold that is headed your way!

Michele's PET scan is done, so now we wait on pins and needles for the results on Friday! I want so badly to keep ONLY positive thoughts🙏🙏🙏

MARY ANN, it seems we all are enjoying your news from the rehab center.....just keep up the good job of getting better and telling us all about it❣️❣️

CALLIE, I waiting for the report on how good that meatloaf is!

Have a good rest of your day.

Claire, a friend, had that problem lots until she purchased a mini-sized cassette recorder for her key chain. Now when she gets out of her car, she will state the location, area and row, into the CTR. It was such a big help that she now uses it for her cell phone and other reminders.

Amy

Patricia, what a great idea!
We went into a huge mall in the US to shop.We came out and the truck and trailer was gone. We didn't panic, well not that we showed to each other. Turns out this mall had multiple  enteranes. We did find the truck eventually  :)

I came to check on "our Mary Ann" and have had this Maxine on my desktop for ages & thought it may give everyone a giggle. Can always threaten to go to prison to get everything WE want if they don't treat right in re-hab!!!

Senior health care.jpg
Well, don't know how to resize that, thought it was okay on my computer but having to scroll in here. Help, anyone with power to change?  Please, or delete....

Mary Ann

Shirley, loved Maxine. That's like the person who booked at Holiday Inn because everything was taken care of.

I'm still mid-term as far as therapy is concerned so don know anything.Jan and her mother were here today.  I have gained eight pounds and Jan said that isn't normal so I asked a nurse about it and she is checking.

It is time to eat.

This is primarily for Marilyne. What do you think of the article?

Why Texans Don't Want Any More Californians

Migrants from the Golden State could change the character of their new homes.

"From one perspective, the answer is very clearly yes. In 2012, California gained 113,000 people on net through domestic and international migration. Last year, California lost 40,000 people on net to migration, according to its own demographers. The state still grew, thanks to births, but at the lowest rate on record. Now the U.S. state most synonymous with all varieties of growth—vegetal, technological, and human—is at the precipice of its first-ever population decline."

Marilyne

Patricia - That was an interesting article. Endless stories online, and every day, a new one in our local and San Francisco newspapers, about people moving away.   The main reason is, that it's become too expensive to live in California, unless you make at least $100,000+ per year . . . and even that amount is considered to be a paltry sum.  The newcomers from China and India, and other parts of the USA, have advanced degrees, and are qualified to work in the various Silicon Valley companies - Facebook, Apple, Cisco, Google, Oracle, Twitter, and hundreds of other top high paying companies.  People who make under $100,000 cannot afford to rent an apartment, much less buy a house.  So they are leaving and moving to other states.

We have friends and relatives, who have moved to Idaho. Many others we know of have moved to Las Vegas, NV, or Tucson AZ. My hairdresser's daughter and married granddaughter & family, have moved to Tennessee. They are all native Californians.  Portland Oregon used to be a destination, but it's become very expensive over the years, and no one can afford to live there anymore . . . same with the Seattle area.  So recently, Texas, has become the State of choice.

The problem for the average Californian who wants to get out, is that you have to have lots of money saved up, to move away!  It costs a fortune to move your household to a new state, and then rent a house or apartment when you get there, while looking for a new job.  Both of my daughters want to move away, but they can't afford to leave!  Shelley will be eligible for SS on her birthday in May, and she hopes to move shortly thereafter.  Sandy is stuck, because it takes all of her paycheck to pay rent, even though she is in a rent controlled apartment, and her rent is relatively low.  If you don't have a college degree, you are worthless in the job market.  Other states are more forgiving, rents are lower, and jobs are easier to find.

Tomereader1

MaryAnn: The weight gain is due primarily to the carbs you are getting.  When I was loosing weight, my doc said you need to get some more carbs.  I told her "you've told me for years to cut back on the carbs".  She laughed but said "now you need them".  I always wonder how much someone weighs who is so worried about gaining 4 lbs. Rice, beans, bread and/or rolls, any pastas constitute carbs.  The doctors now say, if your're trying to lose weight, if it's white don't eat it.  I forgot to add potatoes to that list!  LOL.

I was doing fine until they brought the meds.  All of my vitals were in the ball park, and I felt better.  I had lost my waterlogginess and bloatededness and felt somewhat live.  I took the potassium pill secon and chocked for about five minutes.  I knew the pill was porous and it disintegrated in my throat.  I'll have to see if there is another, smaller version.  Fortunately, I take only one a day.

I have not had my therapy yet but it will be interested to see what I learn today.

I'll be back when I find out what is going on.

Good morning, Mary Ann and all Bait and Tacklers looking in this morning.  It's a damp chilly day here in Auburn, Alabama.  I'm not dressed yet, but am planning on a shower and dressing in warm duds for my usual morning walk.  I'm hoping the rain holds off until I get the walk in.

Mary Ann, I hope your hospital stay is helpful and you'll soon feel better and able to go back home.  Keep us posted.  Thoughts and prayers going up here in Auburn for your quick recovery!

Mary Ann - I know how scary it is to choke on a pill, or sometimes, something as simple as water, will go down the wrong way, and I know I'm going to have a cough/choke fit.  Afterwards my eyes are watering, and my heart is beating super fast, and it takes a while to recover!  Hope your therapy runs smoothly today, so that you'll be that much closer to going home.   Let us know what the staff thinks of that sudden 8 lb weight gain??   Sounds better to me than a weight loss?

Jenny - Yesterday, AJ had his six month PetScan.   Hard to believe it's been a half a year since his colon surgery. (early August)  We won't know the results until his appointment next week.  He looks great, feels great, and has his usual amount of boundless energy, so we're hoping for the best.
Tomorrow Michele and Dave will find out the results of her scan, and I'm praying that they see no more tumors, anywhere!!

Good morning to Sue, and Jackie, and Tome!

Amy and Shirley - good to see you both posting here yesterday!

FlaJean

We had a bad storm late morning.  Apparently a tree fell on some power lines a mile or so away and we lost electricity.  We have underground wiring but that doesn't matter when the trees fall on lines outside of where we live.  Larry got the garage door up and we went for a McMuffin and to Gigi's for a cup of coffee.  When we got back home the electricity was back on.  It is still raining.

Hope everyone's day is going good.  The day has been flying by.

Mary Ann

I misspoke when I said I too only one potassium pill a day because in the afternoon she brought two more pills and I got the first one down but not the second.  It was a repeat of the morning session.  Tom was here when it started but had to go to the office about some paper work so he missed the whole thing.

Therapy was something else = more of the same - plus.  So my good feeling morning disintegrated and I haven't been the same since.

My lunch was Bourbon chicken and was very good but I didn't have room for all of it plus a dinner roll.  I feel bad wasting all of that food I am not eating.

Tomorrow they may left me go to the bathroom by myself; I've had to have help.

Tom came this afternoon when and we exchange ideas about now and the future.  As I've often said, especially now, I am glad my future is behind me.

Mary Ann
