Larry, Candy grew up in San Francisco, CA.  We all did.  Her friend moved to Ark. about a year ago.  Candy is stuck in Texas in a snow storm.   She had hoped to outrun it but could not  or would not drive at night.  She says she is ok and tells me not to worry.  What mother would not worry?  Oh well, she is close now.

Marilyne

wjoan - I hope the snow storm lets up, so Candy will be able to continue on the last lap of her drive.  Don't you hate it when your kids tell you, "Don't worry Mom"!  As if we could stop!  ::) LOL

Joan, sounds as if Candy is coming across Oklahoma on I-40.  Heavy snow came across along I-40 overnight so she would have been driving right into it.   Good idea for her to stay put for a while.  I'm in the OKC area and very familiar with the route to Amarillo.  The stretch of I-40 from Amarillo to the El Reno area is flat "wide open space" with quite a distance between towns.   Things should be fine by this afternoon.  At least, she won't have to deal with hills and curves!

Joan,  here's the number of the OK Dept of Transportation (ODOT) that Candy can use to find out road conditions.  Looks as if I-40 may have some slick spots.

To check current road conditions in Oklahoma, call ODOT's road condition hotline at 844-465-4997

Thanks Callie and Marilyne/  She is in Amarillo right now cooling her heels.  Hert dog has never been in snow so this is a first for Lady.   She says she has 6 hours to drive before she gets to Ark.   Roads should be cleared while she is having her coffee.  :)

Larry, I'm not as efficient as you are re 2016 taxes.  To begin with, I was using Quicken 2016 on my old laptop and the vent is in the bottom.  When things got too warm, the computer shut down.  I don't remember if I had a disk or download for the program and could not find a disk, so I used a 2014 disk on another computer.  I got way behind and I'm not caught up yet.  I now have a Windows 10 laptop and when I get my Quicken info together, I'll install the 2017 Quicken data, then try to keep up to date.  At the end of the year, I print out a report or two and it is very helpful.  But in the meantime - - -.

The thermometer near me says 14 degrees, but it is in the sun and i don't believe it.  It probably is about 10 degrees but I'm too lazy to go look at the thermometer on the north side of our building.

Tom has gone to lunch with a friend and I'll see what I can find soon.

The weather thingie below says we have 12 F and 11 C.

Joan,  she may be optimistic about the 6 hour drive to Arkansas!   Just saw the noon news.   Here is the number to call for Arkansas road conditions:    1-800-245-1672

The wind chill here (OKC) is in the single digits!   Please tell her a friend in Oklahoma says "Be Very Cautious".

JeanneP

One good thing about Arkansas . They have terrific Interstates now. Once Clinton got to be President that is one thing he took care of. For years I drove through there when all were mostly just 2 roads. Now some are 3 each side. I love that State.

Good morning, it's cold, minus fourteen, and I'm on my first cup of coffee. The snow removal guys were at it all night and those backup chimes kept going all night!

Gloria, Farrah doesn't like any type of wet food and of course that is the type vets prefer. Larry, she is happy with her treats again and I try to stay away from that closet as each time she thinks it's for her!

Joan, I'm glad Candy is finished with the snow and hope the rest of her trip is easy going. Since I am unable to drive, I was always the navigator on trips across country.

MaryAnn, I have my tax info but haven't done anything yet. There's never that much but the IRS always wants some extra!

wjoan

Callie, thanks for that I will pass it on to her.

It had snowed again during the night. Went down to 9 below. Car was covered but decided if the sun came out by 11am I would clean off the car and head out . All well wrapped. Headed for the Mall to find some Flannel sheets. Had some nice ones .Then headed to the home store to pick up filters for the furnace.  Still need to put them in. Will get to it tomorrow.

Now its back dark and really cold again so I am in for the night. Don't need to go out tomorrow. The mall was so hot could hardly breath. I don't think air coming into those buildings and they keep the furnaces to high. Got to realize that human bodies let of a lot of heat.  First time been to Mall since before Christmas.
Sad to see the shooting at the Florida Airport . Daughter had just used it a few weeks ago. She just is flying all the time. Got to worry about that now. Never know where things are going to happen.

My Angel has landed safely in Ark.  She wants a shower, clean ciothes and hot cup of  coffee,.  Am so glad she is there.  We are both surprised the car made it.  LOL

CallieOK

Joan,  Hooray for her safe arrival!

angelface555

Joan, glad she, Lady and the car made it to Arkansas!

Beverly

Joan - Glad to hear Candy made it safely to Arkansas.

We are having heavy rain with thunder and lightning tonight. We really need the rain. I don't envy all the cold temps and snow. Been there, done that!  :)

wjoan

Thanks all.   Now I can sleep tonight.

Hi everyone.  We are fortunate and they have taken the predicted snow out of the forecast for today.  We have had a lot of rain starting yesterday afternoon and throughout the night but it is suppose to end later this morning.  It is now 33 degrees and will stay in the 30's today and get down to 22 degrees tonight.

I don't expect to leave the house today other than walk the few steps to the mailbox.  I just plan on working more on getting my taxes started and also preparing a devotional for our Sunday School class tomorrow.

Joan, I was getting mixed up and thinking about Jane who lives in Oregon who recently lost her daughter as she was from Oklahoma.  Sorry!  Glad to read that Candy is safely in Arkansas and that there were no mechanical problems on the trip.  I try not to worry but must admit I was concerned about my son's trip to Albany, New York last week and was relieved to know he was safely back in North Augusta.

Mary Ann, I have wanted to work more on my tax information the last couple of days but things kept popping up that prevented that.  I am getting an early start this morning so should be able to focus on it a bit today.  I don't use a program like Quicken.  We do use the money problem primarily to keep track of our funds and to help with the bank reconciliation.

Patricia, now that is cold and it sounds like you are having quite a winter so far.

JeanneP, you are also awfully cold up your way.  I love flannel sheets and use them winter and summer.  Sure glad your daughter wasn't in that airport yesterday.  What a terrible tragedy.

Beverly, we must have been sharing those heavy rains.  IT is just alight rain now and should stop soon.

Mary Ann

Larry, I use Quicken to keep track of my finances and I use Turbo Tax to do my taxes.  With the older computer stopping when it gets warm, I had only a 2014 Quicken to replace the 2016 version on the older computer and I just let things go.  I am able to keep up with my accounts with the bank online, which I know some people do anyway.  My taxes are always very simple and I have always done my own tax return - even before Quicken.

11 degrees here at 9:23 am, in case anyone cares.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Well Mary Ann we are 4 degrees  here at  8:30 a.m. I was so cold last night I just went to bed early.  Slept good tho.

Marilyne

wjoan - Good to look in this morning, and see that Candy made it to Arkansas okay.
When I see what your temps are in Richland, it makes me realize that the winter I spent at Camp Hanford/Pasco, must have been a mild one.  It was bitter cold, but no snow, and  never as low as 4 degrees!

wjoan

Marilyne, this is the worst winter I have spent here.   I am used to San Francisco area.  We usually see snow only one day a year here.  We have had snow now for OVER 3 weeks.   Think it got to me last nite cuz I was so cold I was shiverintg and could not get warm.  Yes my heater is working and set at 73 but my temp was lower.. :)  Just went to bed and  feel better this a.m.  for it.

Mary Ann

We are at 14 degrees now and I have been inside all day, letting Tom get the mail.  The sun has shown some but not constantly.

I just goofed up my TV control and the TV will not play.  I'm waiting for Tom to come up; he's the master of the controls.  It's a good time for it to happen because I found my bank statements and I could look to see where I left off before Christmas.

If the roads are in good condition, Dot and I will go to church tomorrow.  If they are not, we will not!  It's that simple.

Mary Ann

wjoan

We are at 14 degrees and it is snowing.  :(

Marilyne

The "Pineapple Express" is arriving tonight!  That's a tropical storm, coming across the Pacific from Hawaii, and always brings us lots of much needed rain. Maybe too much this time, as they are already predicting floods and mud slides by morning. :yikes:

MarsGal

13 here. I need to do a grocery run. Don't know if I want to go out in this cold.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  When I arose this morning it was 22 degrees and that is cold for South Carolina.  The sky is clear and the sun is now coming up but it will only get up to maybe forty by mid-afternoon.  I expect today will be my typical Sunday with Sunday School and Church and then bringing home something for our main meal of the day.  I will be doing the Devotional in our Sunday School class again this morning.  The rest of the day will be for rest and watching football.

Mary Ann, my taxes are simple as well but I still use TaxAct to prepare and file my returns electronically.  It is mainly gathering all the documents and then plugging in the figures.  Since we moved here I have been itemizing the expenses which takes a bit more time to be sure I have everything well documented.

Marilyne, I saw the forecast of the worst rain storm in Northern California perhaps ever recorded.  I hope you reside on high ground and not next to a cliff.

Mary Ann

Larry, I file electronically with Turbo Tax.  I have to pay to file the State so if I owe money, I file by snail mail but if I get a refund, I'll file electronically if my refund is more than the cost of filing!

Dot and I did our usual this morning, church then Mr Burger.  We both had burgers and shared a sweet roll.  It took us about an hour to solve the world's problems before we headed home.

I don't know if Tom is still driving for Uber this morning or if he went to church.  He wasn't dressed for church, but that doesn't seem to matter these days.  I do think it is more important to attend church than to worry about wearing our Sunday best.

The thermometer reads 16 degrees right now, but fluctuates up and down.  I don't think we are to get much warmer, if at all.

Grand Haven looks to be quite hazy and I see some of the water by shore has frozen and has snow on top of it.  You can hardly make out the north pier and lighthouse.

Mary Ann

wjoan

Well, it is 20 degrees and snow headed our way for the day.  Imagine that.

wjoan

Still snowing here.  Ugh.   Candy made it out of the Reno, NV just in time.  They are have flooding already along with other areas.  Too much snow and rain this early , can only imagine what it will be like come March.
