Hah, learned some stuff today, Thank you, Bubble.
Fendler buckbush, or deerbriar. As the name implies, deer like it. It is a western shrub that populates pine forests between 1,500 and 3,000 meters (4,900 and 9,800 ft) in altitude.
Also, found. Fendler's barberry. It has yellow flowers. Rare, it is a rabbit deterrent but attracts the birds.

Didn't know there were any; something to look up later when Shan isn't "assisting" with my typing.

This year our tree was very active. At New Year's little sticks suddenly appeared on the walls -- the Super came up with fly spray, but that didn't phase them. Then were praying manitises -- and one is not allowed to harm them. Of course they were in the wrong place at the worng time -- no mantis food around, so they would die no matter what.

zantedeschia, aka: calla lily or arum lily
Rutumi, sorry to hear about the praying mantises. I try to save as many as I can. When I had my big garden back in the 70's and 80's, when pruning my fruit trees, I any mantis egg cases I found that were liable to hatch out too soon, I would snip the twigs they clung to and taped them to my fruit trees. I was a semi-organic gardener and didn't use insecticides. The praying mantises were great at helping to keep unwanted insects down. Of course, the very first things they did when they hatched was try to wipe out their siblings because they were easily within reach.

This is what my neigbor says were the trees in her backyard that she had cut down this past fall. The Lantern Flies were really doing a number on them. Some died. I thought they were sumac of some kind. At any rate they send up new shoots from their roots that I had been battling in my yard until this year.
