Oldiesmann: Relevant links can be found in topics in the Homemaking, Food & Garden board. I'll see about moving them over to articles here when I get a chance.

2024-05-02, 00:07:54
Oldiesmann: Found them. They're on the CP site: https://www.christianphotographers.com/recipes/recipeindex.html

Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

jane

What message do you get when you try?

JeanneP

Glad my furnace is  working here. No higher than 12 deg here today but then warms up for Saturday to 39 they say. But on Late Saturday night goes to 11 below zero and only up to 7 deg the whole day Sunday.
I want to get a visit into my Primary Dr. before end of December so that it get into 2016 Insurance.  I called again and changed my day to Dec. 20th. This is the second change.  She is clear over on the other side of the City.

Finally got my Comcast to fix the problem and the Increase in the monthly cost. Took over 2 hours on the phone.  They are sending a service man out at the time Monday that I had the Dr. Appt. If it is really cold Monday I may just Cancel it all together. It is nothing that can't be put off. Not driving on Ice.

Everytime I make a reply or Forward something now in my Gmail account it goes out of the inBox and shows Archived.. I don't see a Archive File.  It never use to do that. Just stayed in the Inbox until I either Saved or Deleted.  Still using W7.

Warning for anyone using Firefox. Although it looks like a file from Firefox/Mozilla do not download a file that may pop up saying it is an emergency patch for Firefox or webpage saying same, with a download now button. It is not. firefox patch.js is a virus.

Fortunately, I ran my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it seems to have got rid of the files it managed to download on my computer. A further ran my Avast Pro Antivirus at full scan, and the boot scan. Then rescanned using Malwarebytes to make sure.

Thanks...for that info...I been trying to change my password on yahoo mail...want let me...guess I will just stop using it.  candy

jane

Candy...did you get a gmail account set up?

That hacking was in 2013, so anything they want they probably have had for 3 yrs....they were hacked again in 2014....and apparently didn't even know about either one for a long time.  I don't think changing a password now there would mean anything.

Hopefully you don't do any financial things with yahoo....or I wouldn't anymore, given their track record.

Has anyone else here gotten this person coming up on your W7 computer today.
A person says that (by voice) My computer has been hit bye a Virus and you need to call this number in order for them to remove. Other wise a Block will be put on your computer in order to save our Equipment. Then a box comes up saying my computer blocked.
I turned mine off. Called that number and it sounds like the same Spam that comes over the phone often. A Indian Voice. Wants to work on computer. Says from Microsoft just like the phone call.

I have turned it back on again and all normal.  I know that I do have something that has gotten through as it keeps changing my Home Page.  Big long name and number.
I have been told that there are a lot of things now getting onto our W7. Those things we have had for years that caught virus will no longer work.

Soon I will be looking into W10 computer but not until I get down to Texas.

Jeanne, I have had that "person" pop up and give me the message.  I ignored it and was able to use my computer.  I do think I had a problem at the time, but that "person" was not going to fix it - at least not my computer.

If you keep getting it, I'd just 'x' it out and ignore it.

Mary Ann

I have had several come up on windows 10, unable to x out, or use task master.  Just turn the computer off and should be ok.  I would not contact them.  I will then run a scan and nothing on my computer.  If possible avoid the link you were losing when it popped up.

angelface555

It is a scam antivirus. Do not engage in any way. Do not X out! Use Control-alt-Delete. Never X out if you are unsure!!!

JeanneP., I would run your antivirus altho since you contacted them, it may be compromised. You need to have it looked at by someone local to irradicate the virus or sleeper virus.

jackwv

Took a look around at reviews of anti virus programs.  Will not give the link but found it interesting that they included this disclaimer.

Jack. It came on again 10 min. ago. I find that it always come only when I clik on my Xfinity home page. (Comcast).  I will talk to them.  I can get everywhere fine.
Not in the mood to mess with Comcast today.
We are back having a cold raining day again after quite a nice day yesterday.
JeanneP

jackwv

JeanneP   I seldom go to the Xfinity home page.  I do not even check their mail direct but view on Windows Live Mail.   Good luck calling them, hope they help.

Yes, Jack. I have given up on every getting Comcast E-M to work right. Most people don't use it.  Even the service men say they dont Us their E-M.

They did a lot of work on my connection last week. Found some problems and took care of them . Had put the cost up in December billing told I wasn't paying it for the service I got. Anyway looks like the took they $25 off for next year.

This is probably a no-brainer, but ---

I bought a W-10 HP laptop recently and the sound is not right.  The sound will start out for a few notes, then gradually fade out.  I can keep it going by clicking on the sound icon of whatever I'm trying to listen to, but it is broken sound.

Is there something I can do, or should I call someone in India to see if they have an answer.

Mary Ann, it appears that you are not the only one with that problem. This problem appears to have been going on for about a year. Most of the suggestions did not work, including updating drivers. BUT, RealTek updated their drivers in November and the last info I have is that it works - this time. There is a caution that if HP updates drivers later (or Windows for that matter), it may cause the problem to come back and then you'll have to reinstall the good one.

Here is RealTek's home page.  http://www.realtek.com/  You may find your driver  series listed under the Quick Links column. You will need to know the specific card model/number to download the correct driver. Installing new drivers is not hard, but can be confusing when trying to find the correct one for your audio card. I am assuming that your HP is using a RealTek card as with many other HP machines.

Oh, and one more thing. I once had to actually go into the computer device manager settings to manually select a new driver I downloaded. Most of the time you won't have to do this because the machine automatically finds the newest and best driver for the card and machine. Good luck.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, thank you for that information.  I'll have to see if I have a RealTek driver.  It is an irritating problem and I think happens mostly during music.  Larry Hanna posted something about a PhoneSoap and I was able to listen to the talk for about four minutes before the sound started to fade.

On one of my old, old computers (probably XP system) there was a "Paint" program, and it had various pictures you could print out.  I don't know if this Win7 has a similar program.  Does anyone know?  It may not have been called Paint, but something else which I can't remember.

angelface555

Tomereader1

Okay, thanks for that.  However, that tells me it wasn't the paint program I was looking for.  Perhaps it was something in my old Microsoft Works Program, that had pictures (not photos) in it.  Things like stacks of books, a pagoda, I'd have to look at some old, old stuff I printed out yrs. ago to see what kind of pics.  Does that ring a bell?

angelface555

Are you thinking of different backgrounds available for each Windows browser? Those you could save, print out or use for your theme? Each Windows browser has a set that you will find in settings.

Okay!  The word of the day is "perserverance"!  I found what I was asking about.  Went to MS Word, if you have a document up, or not, you can go to Insert, there is a box called "Clip Art".  Click on that, You can type in whatever you are looking for.  I did Books and Buildings, and it shows several choices of each item, which you can then insert into your documents!

Tomereader1

But, I appreciate all your efforts to help me find this App!
You are all wonderful, and I wish you each and every one a
Happy New Year!
