Patricia, heads up. One of the moderators (I think she said she is one of the owners) on StreamTime Live says they are hoping to have a live sea plane cam up in Alaska soon. Their home page sure is upbeat with lots of plans for the future of Live Streaming. Check out the numbers at the bottom of the page. And that is just with two web streams. https://streamtimelive.com/

Jean, if you don't mind,  I would like to know what kind of a bread maker you have.  I just love home made bread, but always feel like it is so much trouble to make.  You said yours is easy, so I might treat myself to one.

Thanks !!!

Feeling kind of "punk" tonight. Today I had mohs surgery for two skin cancers. Nursing a very sore finger and some pain on my skull. A plastic surgeon did the stitching on my skull and Chape says it looks like he did a good job.

Yesterday we had no cable all day, which means no computer, no TV and no land-line phone. I felt like someone cut off my umbilical cord to the world!  :) Thank goodness for cell phones in case of emergency. The cable finally came back on at 8 p.m. Funny how accustomed we've become to technology! I can remember when I enjoyed a nice quiet house.  :)

Larry and I had a very nice talk on Facetime yesterday using my husband's phone. He took my I-phone to the store and they finally solved the problem I was having. I'm going to enjoy using Facetime.

So many people I'd like to respond to but my pillow is calling!

Good night all.

"Meet the Cat-Fox, an Oddball Feline Roaming Around a French Island"

"These cat-foxes earned their name because of their size (slightly larger than an average domestic cat) and their tail decorations — most of them have two to four rings on their tails that end in a black tip. The cats are about 35 inches (90 centimeters) long from head to tail; they have wide ears, short whiskers and dog-like teeth, according to the AFP.

Researchers at the National Hunting and Wildlife Office in Corsica have been examining these cats for over a decade. Back in 2012, they examined fur left behind when the cat-foxes rubbed their bodies on a stick that had been coated with an attractive scent. When the researchers examined the DNA from that fur, they found these cat-foxes weren't related to any known species around the world, but their DNA was similar to that of the African forest cat (Felis silvestris lybica).

Hi everyone. It is going to be another hot day here in South Carolina getting up to around 93 with some chance for rain, although less than 50%. I am expecting this to be an exciting and busy day. The aid will be here around 10 am to help me with a shower.

Scott has taken 5 days off of work so he can spend time with my sister and BIL and with us. He sent me a text saying he has turned off the phone portion of his smart phone so he can't be reached by his work. This will be the first 5 days I can remember him taking for a very long time as he usually loses his vacation time. He and Elizabeth are planning to come out this morning and work on a few more things, including seeing if they can get my TV hooked up for Bluetooth so that I can use earphones with it. He thinks he has what is needed but he will have to take the TV off the wall bracket for a minute to hook things up and so Elizabeth will be here to hold it. Scott has an old dishwasher that has now shorted out the electronics so he is shopping for a new basic one and has found a good deal and we are going to have the pleasure of giving it to him as a gift.

I had Elizabeth take out the mat in front of my computer and it is on the street for the garbage truck later this morning. I expect others of you know what I am talking about these soft mats where the wheels sink into it and then your chair doesn't want to move. I checked into the new glass desk mats and they look great but they are extremely expensive. I had some places to check on the web to see about getting something basic that is solid so the wheels on my chair can move easily. Yesterday I ordered another type chair cushion that is suppose to be very good at preventing or dealing with bed sores. I have lost so much weight that I am concerned about getting a bed sore and want to be preventive rather than treat after one occurs.

Last night the girls surprised us with a homemade German Chocolate cake that Elizabeth made. It has been several years since I have had German Chocolate cake and it sure tasted good. They had picked up sandwiches for our dinner so that made a nice meal. I even forgo my normal fudge bar.

MarsGal, have you ever taken a long train ride? When I was 16 my grandmother wanted to go see her sister in California so she invited me to make the trip with her. It was the old ElCapatan high rise train car and we went from Kansas City Sacramento. I remember being concerned that she would fall on that moving train. Years later I was working in Kansas City and needed to make a trip to Chicago so decided to ride the Amtrak for the trip. Unfortunately it was cold winter time and the doors of the car I was riding on wouldn't close all the way so it was a pretty cold and miserable trip. Then when we get to Chicago the train decides to back up quite a ways. I didn't think I would ever get off that train and that was my last train ride.

Marilyne, what sad news for your friends. Cancer hits again. I would have to think long and hard to decide to go through the radiation and chemo but the will to live is pretty strong. I hope you are able to go visit with him while he can still enjoy your visit. We were very fortunate when my folks needed help that I was already retired and we could relocate temporarily from Georgia to NW Missouri. My good wife was, as always supportive of us doing that and it turned out to be 9 months in length. There was no way I would go off and leave my folks in a nursing home. After those nine months my sister arranged for them to fly to Iowa and relocate to a nice facility only a few blocks from her home so she could continue to work and still keep an eye on things. It was Pat's idea to charter a plane and what would have been a long and difficult journey by car was only two hours from one care facility until they were in their new facility.

Jean, glad that eye appointment gave you good news. I would be lost if I had to reduce my computer time and fortunately I have great eyes with no indication of glaucoma, which my dad did have. Glad you got a more comfortable night with the humidifier. I am having a problem with a dry mouth but know it is caused by the salt tablets I take twice a day. I just keep a glass of water near by and take small sips as am suppose to limit fluid intake. I haven't found any of the Firehouse Subs I haven't liked. However, I had forgotten that a medium sandwich was more than plenty for Pat and I so had some extra sandwich to share with the girls. I used to get Jersey Mike's subs but they just don't add up to Firehouse Subs. While the food was good the full taste isn't there anymore. I would often stop after church and pick up a Firehouse Subs. (I just fell asleep and ended up with quite a few lines of the same letter in my posting.) I don't mind spending considerable time preparing my posting but it sure deflates a person when they lose a posting. Sorry you are not finding your Instant Pot useful. Pat uses a long handle wooden spoon when she releases the steam or just lets the steam release naturally. We used to have a bread machine and what a treat to cut into and eat that fresh bread.

Mary Ann, I hope you and Tom will treat yourself to a Firehouse Sub experience. You can get a small 6 inch sub that makes a good meal for two for around $6 as I recall and the one twice that size is on a 12" and costs about $9 and you get a lot to eat. I like the heated subs although the Italian is our favorite. I have never tried a Jimmy John sub but think we have one close by.

Patricia, I have a playlist for Collabro and had forgotten about it. I am listening to your link as I write this morning. I don't think I had ever seen what they looked like.

Joy, we used to buy the bread mixes and that made fixing the homemade bread pretty easy.

Beverly, having two skin cancers addressed at once seems a bit much. Did you get to wait in the waiting room with all the strange bandaged patients? You are not the only one who enjoyed our Facetime conversation and it was very much like the visit when you were actually here sitting on our divan.

MarsGal

Good Morning Larry!

Sometimes I hate this laptop. It is way too easy for me to lose my posts. Sigh!

Anyway, no I haven't taken any long train trips. George and I used like to take the steam train day trips. My sister and her husband, however, have taken several cross-country trips out to California and Seattle.

There are two long train trips I would have liked to take, but the expense, finding the time, and someone to go with discouraged me. The first is the Adirondack which is not an express, so you can buy a pass that lets you on and off the train when you want. It runs between NYC and Montreal. Lots of Early American history along the way including Dutch (or Washington Irving) country, Stonybrook Battlefield (which they seem to be calling Stony Point now), Fort Ticonderoga, Plattsburgh, Saratoga Springs, and lots more. The other was the train to Savannah, GA. I think the train was called the Silver Bullet or Silver Leaf, something like that, anyway. At the time is was a package trip offered by AAA and was expensive.

Mary Ann

Larry, you beat me this morning.  I was ready to go about 7 am and it is now 7:35 and your post was at 5:25.  I have a quiet fan I turn on at night and I think I sleep better with that circulating the air.  That is - when I sleep - and I did sleep last night; it was 4:30 before I woke up and that is unusual for me.

Larry, I used to have a plastic mat in front of my computer.  It worked OK in a way, but the carpet beneath made it uneven.  Using a laptop, I don't have to worry about mats.

One of my mother's sisters lived near Chicago and I remember riding the train to the World's Fair two years (1932 and 1933?).  I rode in the seat going backward and another aunt was afraid I'd be ill from riding backward.  I had no trouble!  Another memory of that Fair was that my Grandmother Tock somehow or other found herself outside the fair and she was able to talk her way back in.  Then there was the Enchanted Mountain where kids went to the top and came down an enclosed slide.  I skinned my elbow and someone pointed it out to my mother.  Memories - all because of a train ride!

Beverly, I hope you are feeling better after your two skin cancer surgeries.  I've had two, but at different times/years.  The nice part is you cannot see where the surgeries were.  I have a spot on my nose so I'm going to see the dermatologist next week.

Patricia, that cat and its size fit Kendrick.  He has some stripes and I'll have to see where they are on his tail.  He is easily three feet long from paw to end of tail but I've never been able to get him to lie still long enough to really measure him.  Annie said when she bought him and he was half Bengal and half something else!  Regardless, he is a BIG cat!

I see we had rain overnight but it didn't look like a downpour but we don't need more rain, however, the grass is nice and green.  It is about 60 degrees now just before 8 am.

For the second night in a row, I tried to watch Paul but he dawdled and I was ready for bed last night, so I missed him.  The first night he was in Marine City and last night was at the Soo.  He/she's headed for Superior WI.

Good morning.  A very pretty morning but widely scattered showers are predicted.  Then, they are calling for a very nice weekend.  Looking forward to  no rain, for a change,

A little early for any big happenings.

My grandson and his family are going up to Connecticut tomorrow for a long weekend, They will be spending the time with my other grandson and his family, and my grand daughter and her family.  They are all excited.  Since my grandson seemed a little apprehensive about taking his car, I offered to help him with getting a rental.  It makes me feel more comfortable about them driving that far and they were very appreciative.  It  makes me feel good when I can help the kids out a little.  I don't have a lot, but I don't hardly spend any money on myself and sure don't need a lot of stuff anymore.  I remember my mother helping us out when we were younger, and I used to feel bad,  But, she used to tell me,  to let her do things while she was around to see us enjoy ourselves.  So, I kind of remember her sentiments.  It is so hard raising kids today.

I will be praying that they have a safe trip.  They have a lot planned for those few days.  They all don't get to see each very often.  I wish I could have gone, but it is just a little too much for that short a trip.  It is only a 6 hour ride, and I have done it before, and I am hoping that my son, who is the grandchildren's dad, will be able to take me up later in the summer.

Guess I had better get myself moving.  I did bake some cinnamon buns (from a can) and they tasted good for breakfast, I was running low on bread, so I was up early enough to stick them in the oven.

Larry, you continue to amaze me. I know you are looking forward to the visit from your sister and BIL.  Just don't overdo yourself. And, I am sure you are well aware, by now, how to manage your time. Your family will certainly understand. I am sure they are anxious to see you.

Mary Ann, glad that you had a nice lunch with your friends. Always nice to be able to catch up with what has been going on in your lives.  I miss the frequent lunches with my 2 sister-in=laws, but they are not up to driving up to see my anymore. We used to have nice days trips shopping and just getting together.  One is in her late 80's and the other one is 92.  Both are doing ok, just not up to driving this far anymore. The daughter of one of them, is retiring from teaching this year, so she told me that she is going to plan bringing them up and we can go out to lunch or even maybe going to a local Amish market. There are lots of places to sit down and rest, so we will just have to see how that pans out.

Good morning to all the friends I missed.  Have a good day.

Joy, been there, done that!  I have had to delete the coding and start over so my post is all one color and/or font.  It's frustrating, isn't it?

Your trip to Connecticut takes about as long as my trip to Indps.  I haven't decided if I'll go this year but I will consider it in the fall.  Indps has some hot summers, although we would not go where it wasn't air conditioned.  I think my real problem is taking a trip at my age.  I gave up driving in 2016 when I sold my car.  I think Gloria de was still driving, however, only in her trailer park (large) and on back roads.  I don't live near back roads and Tom is very willing to take me wherever I need to go.

Dot and I go out after church each Sunday and catch up on what each of us is doing.  We alternate paying for our brunch but we so often get the same thing each Sunday that we know it costs between $11 and $12 total for both of us.  Dot still drives, but she is six years younger than I am and she wonders how long she can continue.

Good morning from the Interior where we are in the eighties but still having that late afternoon thunder and lightening shower. It is scorching and dry, so of course, we are having fires in the area between here and Anchorage. They, the fires, are on the flats, and I believe the mountain ranges shelter us from many of those fires although we are surrounded by extensive forests of spruce, birch, and tamarack. The highways follow the rivers, and so there is some marsh alongside those, but it is mainly forested.

I've ridden the train from here to Anchorage and back, and it is eleven hours and 45 minutes along with plenty of going back and forth along the tracks when they arrive in Fairbanks. It is a glorious trip through mountains, rivers, and forests with plenty of lovely large waterfalls but those seats do get sore after a time no matter how plush. The tour companies have plush private cars,(all the amenities); with glass roofs. However, those aren't open to other travelers.

All of my relatives and family are over four thousand miles from here, so I haven't seen any of them in over forty years. My younger sister and I do keep in touch and one Colorado cousin but not from my Dad's side or anyone else from my Mom's side. My older sister and I no longer speak, and I believe both of us are happier for it. She is also estranged from her children and my younger sister.

I have recently collected several matching or contrasting pieces of office paraphernalia. Now I have to decide where and how I want it set up. My desktop is on the two tables, one square and one long and I may purchase another long table. I want to put the square table in the middle with a long one on each side. These are black, fold in the middle and are covered in black table cloths. Farrah has decided her favorite napping spot is the space for the keyboard, so I've placed the keyboard on the large storage box that holds my monitor.

While I enjoyed the efficiency of my portable laptop, I found it and the previous laptop to be not as efficient, powered, and as large a memory or as indestructible as the desktops. I also use a 4T external drive for all backups as well as Amazon Cloud and Dropbox. When I received my desktop, it took about twenty minutes to download the mirror of my computer from the external simply by plugging it into the desktop. Then purging the laptop back to empty before donating it. No need to research programs or account numbers.

I have never been able to drive and thus was dependent on others all my life. If I had been able to drive I don't think I would have ever stayed home in my youth although as my husbands' military dependent included a fair amount of travel.

Joy, I have a Cuisinart Compact Breadmaker.  It was less expensive and I wasn't sure how the bread making would work out, especially after I had wasted money on the IP. 😊.  I did make a complete loaf but I don't care for the hole that it leaves in the bottom of the bread so I just use the dough setting.  It took me several tries to get my recipe just right.  I use parchment paper with a sprinkling of flour to shape the dough and no messy counter.  For just one person you can slice some bread and freeze it.  Just take out a few slices at a time.

Larry, it's good that you are thinking ahead.  It will make it so much easier for your family.  We've done a few things but I'm not sure we've done enough.

Mary Ann, I haven't watched the Web cams for a couple of days.  I was reading a good book and couldn't put it down except to do a few necessary household chores.  In fact, I hear my washing singing to me that it is done.  I think my washing machine and dryer must have been made in Canada.  They have such pleasant sounds, not the usual harsh buzz.  We spent a week in a Canada timeshare with Larry's brother and wife several years ago, and I noticed the difference in the sounds of the Canadian washer and dryer.  Blue lights and pleasant sounds when completed.

Must close for now and read more posting later.

Marilyne

I traveled on the train a lot during the 1940's . . .  always the same trip, from Los Angeles to San Francisco, or vice-versa.  During the War years, the only way to get anywhere, was on a train or bus, because there were no passenger airplanes, and gasoline for your car was rationed, so trains were the quickest way to get around.

My dad was drafted into the Navy during WWII, and was stationed overseas in the Pacific, but he sometimes would get a chance to fly into one of the San Francisco Naval bases on a three day leave.  Then, my mother, brother and I would make the 10 hour trip on the Southern Pacific Daylight passenger train, from LA, to SF, to see him before he had to fly out again.  We stayed with family in S.F., while he was on leave.

I mostly remember how crowded the train always was.  Just packed full with service men, and lots of civilians too. There was a nice dining car, but we never ate a meal there, because my mother didn't have the money for such a luxury! Ha ha!  Instead, she packed a modest lunch of sandwiches and cookies, which we ate in our seats, and anytime we were thirsty, we drank water from the drinking fountains, which were located in the "lounge area" of the bathrooms.    Mostly I remember my brother and I spending most of the entire long day, walking from one end of the train to the other. All the way to the last car, which was called the "Club Car". It had a bar, and tables for playing cards, and was crowded and noisy with lots of servicemen. Our favorite was the Dining Car, that smelled so good and was always packed with people eating what looked to us like a delicious lunch.  We loved to look at the food on people's plates as we slowly walked  through.

We always looked for other kids our age, and there were plenty of them, so made friends quickly.  I recall playing games that involved chasing  through the train cars.  That could quickly get out of hand, with lots of laughing and falling, etc.  Sometimes the conductor would step in and send us all back to our respective seats.  Overall though, we were very well behaved, and the staff, as well as our parents, left us alone to do whatever we wanted to wile away the hours.

Mary Ann

A neighbor girl had a boyfriend in the Navy so one weekend, she, her sister and I took the train from Grand Rapids to Chicago.  It was not a long ride but I think we stopped at every station along the way (it is only about 200 miles from GR to Chi).  The route went close to Lake Michigan.  I'm not sure, but I think it was the first time the two sisters had been out of the state.  We stayed at the Palmer House, a well known hotel and we got there early.  None of us had any idea of what to do in Chicago so we went to the hotel and I think they let us rest in a room, but not the one where we stayed.  That memory is a bit foggy after 75 years.  The boyfriend is not the one my friend married a few years later.

We were older than you, Marilyn, so did not run through the cars, but I can see a 10-hour train trip would have been hard on youngsters.  The conductor was kind to let you play around like that and I'll bet you were not the only kids to walk through all of the cars as you did.  How things have changed!

It's been raining here so Kendrick and I can't sit out on the deck.  He's been sleeping and I've been ship watching.  Fortunately, there have been a few.

The Ojibway just passed Marine City, going south but I didn't pay attention to where.  Years ago Jim and I were in St Ignace MI at an Ojibway museum and I asked an attendant what was the correct pronunciation and she said it could be pronounced either way - Ojibway or O jibwah, accent in different places.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

"It's a beautiful day in (this) neighborhood"  :walkwhistle:  - no wind, no rain.... (hush, Callie before you jinx it!  :-X )

Can't remember (and too lazy to go back and look) if I mentioned the vacuum cleaner spit dirt on the carpet and quit the last time my housekeeper was here.
After the microwave experience, I was afraid I'd have to buy a new cleaner, too.  However, when I took it to the shop this morning, the very nice man said he's sure it just needs a good cleaning and will only cost me $35.00.  Not only that - but he can have it ready before housekeeper comes back.

Have also had a few other pleasant experiences this morning - including squirting squirrel with jet stream from hose when it thought it had found a way to leap onto the feeder.  (Son had redone that bed and moved the feeder away from the holly - but not far enough from a planter)

I remember traveling by train with my parents to Washington D.C. when I was in the 6th grade.  It was an overnight trip so we were in a sleeper car.  I remember going to the Club Car while the porter turned our seats into berths;  I slept in the top one and my parents slept in the bottom one.  I also remember Mother and I going to the dressing room at the end of the car.

We stayed in the Willard Hotel, where my Dad was attending a conference.  Another attendee's daughter and I went exploring and ended up in the basement where we saw a kitchen and a combo rehearsing - probably for the night club.  We had no idea of the history behind the Willard.

Mary Ann,  forgot to mention I also use a little bottled chili sauce along with the mayo in deviled eggs.  Adds just enough "tang" without having to add a lot of ingredients.

I watched a ship called The Big Lift come into Duluth the other day.  Comment said it was loaded with stacks of pipes used to build wind turbines. There are a lot of wind farms in western Oklahoma and those pipes are HUGE!  I wonder what they were loaded onto for land transportation.

Last evening, there were at least a dozen sail boats going back and forth inside the bridge at Duluth.  A video on the Home link this morning said it was the Wednesday sailboat regatta and happens every week.  Will be fun to watch....if I can remember.

Should probably find something useful to do but think I'll just enjoy a "leisurely" afternoon watching webcams and reading.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Mary Ann

Callie, our day is turning out much nicer than it was.  I didn't notice that the sun was out but the grass and road were dry and the lawn mowers were here.

I haven't made deviled eggs in years but I might try some, then add chili sauce.  I'm not sure we have any chili sauce, but Tom likes hot stuff, so maybe we do.

I stayed at the Willard Hotel in Washington DC once but I don't remember why I was there.  It could have been the year I went to Virginia on a tour.  I went by train while my friend and her friend flew (this was before I got brave!).  Part of the tour did include DC and that may be when I was there.  I knew it was a famous hotel but did not know any history of the hotel.  That was the year I went swimming in the Atlantic at Virginia Beach and the salt water didn't do my hair any good but I was able to wash the salt out and all was well.

The Big Lift ship really is named Happy River.  Isn't it a joy to see such a cheerful ship?  With a happy name!  I saw sailboats in the harbor at Port Huron too.  I did not know it was a regular thing and I'll have to remember to watch next week too.

While I was just watching Port Huron this afternoon, a train came by, pulling two cars.  I think someone said they either leave or go to a paper factory there once a day.  The track looks like HO gauge, but I know that is because of the angle.  There were two street crossings and both times the train blew its whistle.

I just wrote a bit different post for this folder than for the SS where I also post.  In trying to individualize it, I managed to delete the one for here, so will just post the original one and will try to get back here later for the individual comments I made from all the newsy posts in here today.

HELLO from Colorado.....

We made it home safe and sound yesterday evening.  We arrived home to a very noisy kitty, letting us know he missed us and was very glad to have us home.  We unloaded the suitcase, did a few other things to get ready and were in bed by 9PM.  The flight was a easy one and it was sure good to get in our car and head home.  Not sure why we were so tired, but we both were. It was VERY hard to leave my Dad.....once again, I thank all of you my dear supportive friends for your kind words of support and understanding.

We must get out and get some groceries, so I must run.

Have a good afternoon!

Both of the surgery sites have been quite uncomfortable today, but I expected that. The one on my finger looks nasty.  :(

Larry - That was my thought also, but I'm glad I had both done as now I don't have to think about the next one. Yes, while I sat in the Mohs waiting room everyone had some kind of bandage. One woman had a big bandage on her nose that looked like the one I had a few years ago.

Chape went to Firehouse Subs and brought our dinner home. I had a new sub (for me).....a Smokehouse Barbecue Brisket with Cheddar. It was really good. I only ate half and the rest will be my lunch tomorrow. Arby's also has a barbecue brisket sandwich and that's what I usually get there.

My son in Vermont called tonight and said they had miserable weather today, heavy rain and temps in the 50s along with flashflood warnings. Not much like summer!

Jean - I had a breadmaker for years but I let it bake in the machine. I loved it and used it nearly every day. My husband was trying to diet and his weakness is bread so when we moved to Florida I gave it to my daughter.

Loved reading about all the train rides. My only train trip was about 10 miles. When I was six years old I wanted to visit my grandmother, so my mother put me on the train and my grandmother was on the other end waiting for me. I was supposed to spend a week there. I was homesick and crying so that lasted about a day and my grandmother had to walk back down to the station and put me on the train back home!

Good night all.

Good morning all!

It is 72o right now and still a bit wet. I think this is the last of the rain for a few days, just in time for the weekend mowing. Ugh  :P

I saw the Happy Hours, last week, bringing the wind turbine blades into Duluth. This morning I watched the clip of the tubes being unloaded that Patricia posted. Was up early enough to see the Algoma Buffalo heading out into Lake Huron. What a lovely sight with all the city and ship lights still aglow.

I saw a brief news report that there is a refinery fire in Philadelphia. Don't know anything else yet, but will check in a bit.

Mention of the Willard Hotel tickles at my brain a little. I've never stayed there, but I remember someone (most likely my Grandma) talking about it when I was little. So, I remember the name, if nothing else.

Hi everyone I have bright and sunny South Carolina morning after a very stormy and long dark night. Around 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon and they just storm struck her area knocked out our power which did not come back on until around 4 o'clock this morning. Fortunately I was able take a vantage of this and had a very nice night sleep I was nice and quiet. My sister and brother-in-law got in town yesterday and we haven't seen them yet as it had a rough trip and had spent a night in a motel before they left South Dakota with a needle when I'm got any sleep. They will be out later this morning. I am not going to make any comments today until I get the Internet back as it is hard to go back-and-forth and it seems I have a lose my space so I will be back and hope y'all have a good day.

Good morning. Still a little chilly, but supposed to warm up later and we are in for a beautiful weekend.

Jean, thanks for the information on the breadmaker. I have it on my Amazon wish list.  Will have to decide if I can make room for it on my counter top.  I know I will have to get rid of something. LOL

Larry,  Do hope your brother and his wife will have a nice visit with you.  Always nice to have company to share time with.

Interesting stories about all your train rides.  I used to take the train to Columbus Georgia when my husband was stationed at Ft. Benning.  Then, some years ago, I took the train to FLorida to visit friends. That was an interesting trip, as I had a really strange seat-mate.  He was a very eccentric guy !!!  Glad I had a better trip back home.   You just never know what kind of people you can meet up with.

Hope all the friends will have a nice first day of summer.

I think we are in for a nice day in the 70s.  At 10:30 it is already 71 degrees.

It's always interesting to read others posts to see what is going on in your lives and I have nothing yet to add today.

Patricia, I did not intend to look at the Welland link all the way, but I ended up taking the entire trip.  It is was interesting to see how many locks the ships had to go through to get to the right lake level.  Someone had wondered why the ships were so banged up on the sides and someone else mentioned the Welland Canal.  I can see why because some of those locks were quite narrow.

Larry, I hope your power comes back soon.  And enjoy your time with your family.

MarsGal, that Happy River ship is the most colorful ship I've seen on the Great Lakes, although the Netherlands ships always look so nice.

Good Morning to everyone:

I see that yesterday I took a long walk down "memory Lane",  in this folder!  :)   A comment from someone will often spark a long lost memory, and I get very nostalgic.  In this case, it was the mention of train trips from the past.

Callie - Your memory of riding on the  "sleeper train", makes me envious!  I always wanted to  take a longer trip, where we would get to sleep in the Pullman car, but we never traveled anywhere at night.  The Coast Daylight, didn't have any sleeper cars.  There was a sister train to the Daylight, called the Coast Starlight, that had Pullman cars, but we never traveled at night.

Mary Ann - That must have been fun, for three young ladies, to travel to Washington DC together on the train.  When I was in college, I often took the same Coast Daylight train,  from L.A. to San Jose and back, for holidays.  It was a different kind of fun then, because I traveled with college girl friends that I lived with at San Jose State U.  We would sit in the Club Car, and play bridge, the entire trip!

Joy and Beverly - It was fun reading about your train trips!  Makes me wonder if people travel much by train anymore?  I know there is a special "Wine Train", that travels from San Francisco to Reno, that makes a stop in the Napa Valley for wine tasting.

Jenny - Good to hear that you are back home again, and feeling much better about your dad!

Larry - I hope you have a nice visit with your sister and her husband. You mentioned they are from S.Dakota?  What city to they live in?

FlaJean

All the talk about trains brought me some good memories.  When I was about 12 or 13, probably in 1948, my parents and I took a Pullman to New York City.  I remember we had to take a ferry to Cape Charles, VA, to get the train.  We had what was called a "drawing room" that slept three and had a tiny bathroom.  That was the best trip.  It was after the war and many long years of long hours working in the shipbuilding industry for my dad and he didn't skimp on a thing on that trip.  We took all the tours, saw the Radio City Rockettes, Bob Crosby (Bill Crosby's brother) in a radio show and it is all seared in my memory as a happy time.  I remember at the hotel when my parents were resting, I made excuses to ride up and down on the elevator because the elevator boy was so cute.

Last night I spent a little while outside on the front porch as the breeze felt so good and the chimes sounded so pretty.  My friend from Ocala sent me the chimes as a house warming present when we moved to Niceville.

I've enjoyed the posts.  Glad you are seeing some summer weather, Mary Ann.  Today will be sunny and hot, but usually the evenings cool down to the low 70s.  Nice for getting away from the AC for awhile.  Haven't seen any mosquitoes yet but the first mosquito buzz will chase me inside.

Have a pleasant day everyone.
