Well after storm Ciara last weekend we are facing yet another " brand new  storm " is to hit our UK this weekend, storm Dennis...heavy rain with very strong winds..

Marilyne...
... totally agree with you over that word c***er, if only our top medic professionals knew what " triggers off " many of our medical issues, including my MS, we would avoid these like the plague...yes will that day ever come that there will be that " miracle cure " for all our serious medical ailments...we can live in hope, cant we, for our future generations if not for ourselves...

Good Morning Everyone, from
the cold and snowy rocky coast
of Maine.

I loved the picture of the
original gerber baby...  what
a beautiful women she still is.

You have gone and done it now.
Talked me into a peanut butter and
mayo sandwich.   Just when I am
craving something,  and that
will fit the bill!

Jenny, you and your family are
always on my mind.   :'(

Marilyn, thanks for the picture of the original Gerber Baby.  Interesting that her name is now Cook.  There are Cooks in my ancestry and the ones around Fremont MI are more English.  We have a  lot of Cooks around here, of various spellings, but they are Dutch (Kok) or German (Koch).

I've just returned from therapy and I'm tired so will rest a bit.

I did read all of the posts.

Mary Ann, it's good to see you here this morning despite being brief.  I hope you are feeling better and will soon be able to go home.  Thoughts and prayers going up for you from here in Auburn, Alabama!

I read on Face Book that Tom Tock
has been very sick but is doing better
now and will be headed home in a few
days.

I am sure that both he
and Mary Ann will be happy
to see one another.

Best wishes to you both.

Good afternoon everyone!

It rained all night steadily and today is damp but fairly warm in high 60s.

I've never had a peanut butter and mayo sandwich, but that's what Larry likes.  But lately he has found that peanut butter doesn't agree with him.  I'll have to try that PB with Mayo combination.  I often just eat a piece of bread spread with PB and the Mayo would probably help it go down easier.  I'll let you know if I like it.

Mary Ann, I hope your day goes well.  And that it is a good day for everyone!

I have a small pork loin roast in the Crockpot and am going to make some pulled pork for sandwiches.  I make my own simple Barbecue sauce but need to run to the store for a package of Angel Hair cabbage to make some slaw.

I also have a very good book to read.  It looks almost like the sun might peek out of the clouds. :)

Tomereader1

Well, all you PB&Mayo folk...although it sounded almost disgusting, I told myself, you can try it. So, with a half slice of bread, thin spreading of PB, I put a thin spreading of mayo on it.
(actually it was miracle whip)  But must admit, it was different, and the aftertaste was excellent, so I will have this delicacy on occasion, but PB & Apricot preserves remains my fave. Thanks all!

Amy

Tomereader, try a pb and thin sliced tomato!! Tasty!!

Mary Ann

When I was young, peanut butter was not homogenized and it stuck to the roof of my mouth.  Someone told my mother about the PB and mayonnaise and it did keep from sticking to the roof of my mouth.  So that was it!  I don't know if PB and jam had not been concocted yet, but it was a while before I heard of it.

As time went on, I used Miracle Whip until Tom came to live with me.  He does not eat PB and mayo, but found he preferred Hellman's that  squeezes so that is what we have been using.  I guess I don't care what brand.

I'm glad someone put Tom's illness on Face Book.  James came in this morning and told me he is going to Tulsa to pick up his dad and bring him home.  He cannot have contact with me for two weeks because of his flu.  I don't know what we're going to do at this point, but other powers that be will make suggestions.  I'll keep you posted.

I had my usual therapy and I understand I am doing good.   I do not ache as much as in the beginning and I did 15 minutes on the bike thing, up from five minutes.  Other tests are OK - testing coordination and such.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - What a bummer, that poor Tom got so sick while in Tulsa.  The old adage, "The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry", applies here.  Things were looking good for Annie and Tom, and for you too, as you headed toward the end of your rehab.  Now all plans must be shuffled and changed for everyones sake.  I'm hoping that Tom will recuperate quickly, once he gets home, and that both you and Tom, will be back in your condo, as soon as possible.

Tomereader1

Wow, MaryAnn, 15 minutes on the bike thing!  I doubt that I could do that much. My P.T. for my shoulder, elbow and wrist really works all these parts, and I am getting more range of motion and strength.  What's left is my fingers, and though I do exercises for them, they still ignore me.  I still cannot make a fist, so I guess my "boxing career" is over! LOL  When I come in from P.T. I feel great, but am so sleepy.  So, it's okay for you to take naps while you're recuperating!

Tomereader1

And my best wishes for Tom to recuperate quickly from his upper respiratory whatever.

MarsGal

Mary Ann, I am sorry to hear that Tom picked up the flu bug. I hope he gets well soon. I am happy to hear that your therapy is going so well.

It has turned colder overnight and is not expected to get out of the high 30s today and tomorrow. It looks like the weather will bounce around this week. They are predicting the mid-50s for Tuesday and then back down into the 30s and 40s for the rest of the week.

Jean, I also made a pork loin this week, but I just roasted it in the microwave so I could slice it for dinner, sandwiches and cut up for pork/ramen noodle soup.

Good morning from the COLD Interior where it is back in the minus thirties and forties with highs in the minus twenties. I am still battling congestion with four hour cold meds and canned nasal spray. I believe my ears are worse than my nasal passages.

Yesterday, a couple of maintenance guys said they knocked and yelled, but I wasn't aware of it until they walked in! My toilet was leaking underneath the flooring into the apartment below. They spent the afternoon taking it apart and will finish today. At least it was working for me to use after they were gone, never drink soda when your toilet isn't available!

Earlier, one guy had been in to replace my bathroom drain and all of the shelf paper in my bathroom and kitchen. Next on the list is new balcony vertical blinds and new insulation on all of the windows and my balcony doors.  My shower, which now imitates a watering can is also scheduled to be replaced. That big state inspection last December is keeping them all busy with these seven buildings.

My friend Dixie is moving in with her son and his family; she's having too many falls, and we will have an unusual seven open apartments available in March with deaths and move-outs. Also, Dora is in the hospital for stents, and I can't visit her or see Dixie off. I'm griping and feeling sorry for myself when so many others have much more significant issues.

Poor Tom, that wasn't a good time to catch the flu! I hope for his, MaryAnn, and Annie's sake that he gets well soon! MaryAnn, you will probably benefit from the longer therapy sessions and leave stronger even if you don't want to stay!

Joy, I'm sorry to hear about your hip. I know you want to be back home!

Farrah is at my heels all day, following me, and being a good nurse. She has even slept on the couch on the same cushion as me, which she has never done. Alan brought over some canned cat liver food, which she used to love and now wants no part of, so he'll stop back by so he can regift it to someone else. His cats are doing well but very clingy, he says with Dora missing.

This coming Saturday, I will again miss delivering to my shut-in. I miss seeing him, but no one needs this cold, infection, or whatever it is!

Marilyne, Jean; I will sometimes use the crockpot for pork loin, but now that they replaced my stove, I've been roasting everything. I also will bag and freeze it for later. I do more of roasting veggies on a sheet pan with sea salt, garlic cloves, and olive oil. I highly recommend this; it makes veggies a meal in themselves!

FlaJean

Jackie, thanks for the message about Joy.  That's going to be a long recovery.  I do check the Soda Shop occasionally but I hadn't checked lately.

We noticed today that two different bluebirds were checking out two of our bluebird houses.  I guess we are now in the bluebird mating season.

The weather is cooler today but should warm up by afternoon.  The azaleas are starting to bloom.  There are several areas a few blocks away with a hedge of azaleas that are almost in full bloom.  I've noticed a few blooms on our dwarf azaleas that we planted last year—-some bright red and some white.

Today is my birthday but I don't get enthused about birthdays, especially now that I'm in my 80s😁.  Gigi wants to celebrate it so I told her let's wait until Sunday and just have some pizza and play a game of Mexican Train.

Mary Ann, so sorry to hear about Tom.  I'm sure he will be glad to get home and rest in his own bed.  I hope Annie doesn't get sick.  You sound like you are doing well and that's good.

Marsgal, my pork loin turned out so tender in the crockpot I almost decided to just slice it for dinner, but I had already bought the rolls and cabbage for slaw so stuck with my original plan.  The barbecue sandwiches were really good and that's what we will be having again today.  I only cooked half the pork loin roast so will have another in the next month or so.

Larry and I just don't have the appetites we had when younger so it is always a problem not to cook too much.  In a lot of ways it was much easier cooking for a family.

The sun is shining and I have a good book to read.  Have a good day everyone.

I'm hearing something like a clock striking but I don't know what it is.  I have to ignore it because I can't get out of the recliner without help.

It seems it doesn't rain but it pours.  Poor Joy.  You have my sympathy. I've been fortunate but they put a belt on me to prevent falls.

I had therapy this morning and visitors when that was over.  It keeps me busy in the morning.

Tom may be on the way home, if not today then tomorrow.  One of the therapists talked to him today and yesterday and said he sounded good.

Tuesday I will have a house evaluation and Tom, Robin and I have talked about what will be moved to accommodate a walker.  I will be going with them and it will be interesting to see the cat's reaction.  I hope he remembers me.

Happy Birthday, Jean.  Wait until you get to your 90s.

Patricia, I am sorry to hear your cold is hanging on.  I think living alone is helping me, but it doesn't seem to help you.  A leaky toilet is not good for you or the person living below.  We had one that leaked into our kitchen.  Dad did something to fix it.

My lunches by choice have been a salad, very tasty and good for me.

Tomereader, the 15 minutes on the bike thing is not too bad.  It isn't like being on a regular bike.  I sit in a chair and pedal at my own pace and it goes well.  We throw balls which isn't bad, either.

Marilyn, Tom may be home before I am.  After the evaluation I will go home on Thursday.  Jan is concerned because of the unknowns but they don't worry me.

I'm tiring.

Happy Birthday Jean!

MaryAnn, I hope all goes well for you on Tuesday with Tom and Robin re the walker and rearranging. You could probably take this time to talk with Robin about where she puts things, and you can't find or reach them.

I found out it isn't my toilet but a pipe inside the wall upstairs. They sawed out a square in the wall on the fifth floor above me and expect a new part on Tuesday. Until then, the pipe's shut off, and everything rerouted.

My desktop computer, still on warranty, finally made it to HP and repairs. It only took from late October to yesterday just to get to the physical repair stage. They say to be returned next week, but I'll believe it when I see it!

:hb2:    :happybday:    :hb2:  Jean.

The pork loin sounds delicious.  I did half a 4 pound ham in my slow cooker this week.  Wished I'd had some sweet potatoes to put in with it - but it tastes good, anyway.

Jackie,  thank you for telling us about Joy.  Sending prayers and good thoughts her way.

Patricia, great that your apartment is being repaired and things needed are being replaced. However, that blasted congestion has gone on long enough to be referred to as an "insignificant issue".  Hope Farrah's TLC will work wonders.

Mary Ann,  I'd wondered if Tom flew or drove and am glad someone is going to bring him home.  Hope Annie is adjusting now.
Doubt if I could do 15 minutes of pedaling on a recumbent bike!  Good for you!  Glad you were able to get your meals straightened out.
Onward and Upward!!

Two friends and I went to see a performance of Ballet Folclorico Nacional De Mexico last night.  The costumes were spectacular and the foot movements were amazing.  Various companies of the Ballet have been touring for 46 years and I vaguely remember seeing a performance as part of the Community Concert series when we lived in Colorado.

Wonder if Community Concerts are still in existence?

Callie, I'm beginning to think this may now be an ear infection, so I will probably be making a new doctor's appointment as I can't hear anything. People tell me they knocked on my door and I never heard it.

CallieOK

Patricia, sounds like a good idea!

Mary Ann

I was nearly at the end of a message, the phone rang and I lost everything.  I am not going to try to remember everything, but Tom is almost OK, out of the hospital and he and James expect to start for home tomorrow.  Tom will not be contagious after Tuesday, does not have CHF and expected to be home when I get there Thursday.

That is the gist of what I wrote.

Things are looking up but I take things a day at at time, sometimes an hour at a time.

I know both of us are looking forward to being home and just letting it all hang out.

I will have a home evaluation Tuesday and Tom, Robin and I have already discussed what we will do with what.

Happy to see Tom is better and will be there to greet you, Mary Ann. Life can sure change all of a sudden, can't it?  Could be you may need to buy one of those "lift" chairs like Cas' mother had. She had trouble getting out of her recliner but think she was happy with how the chair helped.

Patricia, your cold has lasted too long, hope your doctor gives you something to kick it before it wears your body down too far!

And my goodness, there is Sato!!! Welcome back, it has been a long time since we've see a post from you. How have you and your lovely wife been lately?

Good to see everyone tonight. I started to reply on the iPad but messed up trying to resize & all so gave up & came back to the computer.

Happy Birthday to you, Jean! Hope it has been a great day... what's better than having the bluebirds return????
 :hb3:  :hb2:  :hb3:

Marilyne

JEAN - Happy Birthday! Hope you had a nice day?  :happybday:

MARY ANN - So good to hear that you'll be going home next week!   Also good that Tom, is feeling better, and will not be contagious.

Shelley and Claire are here for the weekend, so I've been busy talking and laughing, all day. For Valentine's Day, we had a delicious chocolate cake for dessert tonight.  Also, I gave each of them a small box of See's Candy, that I got the other day.  Also took a box to my dil's mother.  I'll tell you all more about her diagnosis of Polymyalgia Rheumatica, when all the weekend company is gone, and I have more time to write.
