Where is everyone??  Usually when I look in around 7:00 or 8:00, PST, there are a few messages from those in the East or Midwest, but nothing at all this morning?  It's only 9:30 here, so most of you are well into afternoon right now, and must be busy with other things today?

Beverly - I also like that show on HGTV, featuring the couple from Mississippi . . . Erin and Ben.  We just started watching it about a month ago, but it's been on for a couple of years, so there will be lots of reruns for us to enjoy.  They seem more real - not as staged - as other shows on HGTV.  We used to like "My Lottery Dream Home", but not so much anymore.  David is just too extreme , compared with what he was like at first.  The cobra snake tattoo on the neck, is just too much for me.

Mary Ann - Hope you are feeling good this morning, and ready to give Robin directions, on how you want the room arranged?  I hope you will soon be able to get back in your routine of going out to a restaurant for lunch or dinner, with Tom?

I'm getting ready to go shoe shopping again this morning.  One of these days, I'll finally find something comfortable, and when I do, you will hear me rejoicing!  So tired of foot discomfort.

CallieOK

Good Shrove Tuesday to Everyone,

Hard to believe it's already time for the Easter season to begin - and also Daylight Savings Time!  I usually find January and February dragging along but not this year.  All Good Things and I hope they don't "come to an end".

Marilyne,  I wish you well with your shoe shopping.  I have a "condition" that means I have to wear braces. I need shoes and also need new braces but the podiatrist ordered from a different company and I have not been able to find shoes in a women's size that will fit over them.  Podiatrist gave me a reference to a place that makes braces but it's in a really inconvenient location and I haven't made it there, yet.

Re: hearing aides....  I bought mine from the audiologist who tested me (she has a degree in audiologist and doesn't sell any particular brand).  I received 3 years of free batteries and a kit with supplies for replacing the tip of the thing that goes in your ear and its cover. Now that that time has expired, I'm also on a list to be called every 3 months to remind me to come in and have them cleaned - or do it myself.  Well worth the extra cost of the aides, IMO.

Mary Ann,  as I commented in another folder - it sounds as if you're getting settled into home - even if you don't like it 100%.  Hope things settle down for you and Kendrick very soon - and that Tom's health improves.

About time for the noon news.  Better find out if the predicted high wind/rain/snow/etc. is still moving in later today. If so,  I need to fill the bird feeders while its' still sunny and calm.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Marilyne

This afternoon, I went to a local bakery and bought a King Cake, in honor of Mardi Gras - Shrove Tuesday - Fat Tuesday.
Patricia - It looks similar to the one Maxine is holding.  :D

This one is in the traditional three colors, but it has the plastic baby sitting in the crown, on top, instead of baked inside.  Also there are three Mardi Gras necklaces on top, in the three colors.

Here is a picture I found online of a King Cake.  The text explains the meaning of the colors, and the baby. Mine doesn't look as tasty as this one.

Still no posts from Mary Ann?

We've had a dreary but warm day here. Haven't seen the sun at all.

Chape ate scrambled eggs and cheese this afternoon.......a big step in the right direction.

The plumber is here now. There's a problem somewhere between our bathroom and outside. Hope it's not tree roots....When we use the shower it goes glug-glug in the toilet. This plumber lives in our neighborhood and comes whenever we need him. He has a full time job and does this after hours. His prices are reasonable too.

Callie - I'll be happy to see the time change. I'm not one who likes it to get dark so early. I'm not an early riser.

Marilyne - I feel the same about David and his cobra! I don't know if they are still here, but at one time his parents lived here in The Villages.

Hope we hear from Mary Ann soon.

Mary Ann

Here I am!  I was almost banished from my computer room for the day because  Robin and Tom were working in here, moving stuff in and out, vacuuming and anything in general. I was a good girl and stayed out.  I could have moved the computer, but I did not.  I have a very nice "new" room with shelves for the files, papers and books that previously were on the floor or in boxes.  While I might have wanted some things differently, I accepted what the room became and it really is very nice.  Tom can now watch TV with me if we agree on a program (different tastes).

Tom still feels sleepy but is able to stay awake when he has to.  It may require another trip to his  doctor.  I hope not.

Tom and Robin have gone to a new restaurant and Tom will be home shortly afterward.  I could have gone with them, but chose to stay home this time.

Mary Ann - Getting your room clean and organized was worth being banished for the day!  :)

Our office/computer room needs a complete overhauling. Chape has a huge corner desk with a hutch top. He has SO much stuff because it was his work station when he was still programming and writing software for the livestock markets. He's also good at making a mess. Papers and stuff everywhere plus he keeps all his meds, etc. there. He has a 32 inch monitor, a television and a printer/scanner on the desk. We're considering getting a new corner desk (just as large) without the hutch top. Not to mention my little desk, two rolling computer chairs, a filing cabinet, small chest of drawers, a large and a small bookcase and a comfy recliner! I haven't even mentioned all the odds and ends.  :)  Also this room needs new flooring so I'm looking forward to some changes. We both spend a lot of time in here.

Nearly time for bed......Good night all.

JeanneP

I just wish my computer area was out of the living room and into the spare bedroom. I do have it all in a Armour that closes up but still it is large and takes a lot of room.
MaryAnn your sounds like going to be nice. Have them take a photo to show us how it looks.
You don't need to be going out to eat until weather gets nice now.  Just to much Flu and such going around. Soon we will have to worry about the one coming from China. Getting bad over in Europe now. and they don't seem to tell us very much when things are going around in the US

CallieOK

Beverly,  I'll be glad to see the time change, too.  I'm not a morning person and I really enjoy the long evenings - particularly in the summer.

My office is more crowded right now because I have an extra table set up to use for all this shredding I'm doing.  In addition to a corner desk - where my computer is- that's flanked by two cabinets - one of which holds my printer -, there's a folding work table that I use for paper work and four bookcases, each of which has three shelves.  All are full of boxes, albums, and other odds and ends.

Also have a 4 drawer file cabinet. #2 son once said he'd like to come over some weekend day and go through the file cabinet - writing down what was in there.  That lasted about 30 minutes before he decided he didn't really need to know that much.  ;D

Time for the evening news. Guess I'll find out if we're to have snow/rain or a combination overnight.  Hope it doesn't last because I have a meeting on the other side of town tomorrow that I don't want to miss.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Denver

Coming in late.....but better late than never, right?

It was really cold and windy today.....I sure hope it will be better tomorrow. We have to be at Dave and Michele's before 8 AM as Michele has Chemo tomorrow and we are getting kiddos to school.  They are having their air ducts cleaned, so we will stay there all day while that is being done, Michele getting home and then picking up the children as needed.

Bob's visit to the Physical Therapist went quite well.  They ruled out any serious condition, and treated him for BPPV  (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).  This is what I suspected the issue to be, but it is best to go and find out for sure.  I had this really bad nearly 30 years ago.  They pretty much treat it with the same exercise I was treated with.  I tried to get Bob to do these, but it made his dizziness so bad it made him nauseous and he did not want to do them!  So we hope we are on the right road to recovery.

CALLIE, the crazy pictures from the white outs yesterday were something else.  It happened again today in some areas.  Shrove Tuesday it is.

BEVERLY, good to read that Chape was able to eat some soft food.  That will help him to recovery from today.

Good for you, MARILYNE, getting a King Cake to honor the day.  I stopped in for some groceries this afternoon and as I passed through the bakery area I saw they had donuts decorated with King Cake colors with a baby sitting in the hole 😹😹 I hope the plumber took care of the issue in your bathroom.....

MARY ANN, sounds like there was a lot accomplished at your home today.  It will be nice when it is all done and you can just relax and enjoy it!

Gotta hit the hay......sleep well!
Pleasant dreams to all.

Quoting a post to me from Joy a few days ago..." Jackie, that is not unusual. they ( hospital staff ) wake you up in the middle of the night for all kinds of crazy things."...Yes this reminds me of 50 years ago, my first night in the maternity ward before the morning when they were planning on inducing me when i had gone into my 8th day of being overdue of giving birth, I was told to get some early sleep which i did, only to be woken up in the early hours to take a sleeping pill of all things, plus of course i then couldn't get back to sleep...Well as it happened i never had to be induced, as it all happened very quickly the following night as they had given me during the day, a lovely "NOT" thick gooey drink of castor oil flavoured with orange...

Jenny...vertigo is not pleasant as this is another thing that happens to me, re, my MS... so i can fully sympathise with your Bob, and yes i do remember you too was suffering with this a few years ago...

Mary Ann - I've been thinking about Kendrick, and that plaintive little "crying spell" he had in the early hours of Tuesday morning?  My first thought was that he couldn't get to his food dish again, and he was hungry, but apparently it wasn't anything that obvious?  Maybe he is still upset about you being gone for so long, and he was telling you so??  Cats don't like their familiar surroundings to be changed, so he may be upset that the computer room, living room, or whatever else, doesn't look the way it did before, and he's feeling stressed?  I'm sure you will never know the answer, because unfortunately, he can't tell you.  ::)   I just hope he doesn't do the same thing on Wednesday morning?

We don't have a computer room or an office.  My desk top is sitting on an old desk that matches the rest of the furniture here in a spare bedroom in the back of the house.  Other furniture consists of a queen size bed, where I sometimes sleep, a large vanity style dresser with mirror, and a matching bookshelf, stuffed with books.  So when I'm back here on the computer, I'm far removed from the rest of the house, and can't even hear the television.  If I want music, I listen to iTunes on the computer.  AJ's desktop computer is in the other spare bedroom, right next to this one.  It also still looks like a bedroom.  He also has a laptop, that he uses in the living room, when he wants to watch TV.

Tonight we watched the Democrat debate from S.Carolina.  What a chaotic mess it was!   The candidates were interrupting and shouting and talking over each other.  Hard to follow and hard to listen to, but we hung in there to the bitter end.

Jenny & Jackie - Just now saw your messages, as I was getting ready to post, so I'll respond tomorrow!  Jenny - we enjoyed our King Cake, for dessert tonight.  It had an almond filling inside, that was really good, and the decorations on top were so cute and colorful.  Love that tiny baby!

Canal watchers rejoice. One of the moderators at Port Huron site announced that the Soo Canal will open on March 25 with Roger Blough going through first. Caught by the the St. Clair River webcam at Marine City - an Osprey. I missed it but did see a flock of geese heading north and west.

Meanwhile, the "river" gulls are bobbing along on the Susquehanna River and I heard a woodpecker. There was a bird in my backyard yesterday picking on a privet branch. I didn't recognize it in the morning light and at the angle from which I was watching.

Yesterday I sorted out my tax information. Today I want to print out some forms. Then I can start. This afternoon I hope to hear from George about his consultation with the back surgeon regarding robotic surgery.

Marilyne, I am badly in need of new shoes too, something for yardwork and new walking shoes. I think I have put it off about as long as I can.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I want to sort stuff for taxes too.  A couple of my passwords are blocked and I have done nothing about them but in order to print the forms I have to open the accounts.  I think I have half of March for therapy yet so I should have time to do the taxes.  Even though I have some investments, I have a simple return.

I'll have to listen for birds.  Kendrick  has been interested in the ducks on the pond in the past few daya but I haven't had the strength to open the slider; the slider is hard to open even for a strong person.  We used to have duck families nest in some of our bushes but many of the bushes have been removed because of age (almost 40 years old).  Then turtles would get the little ones ad the geese came and it's a whole different pond than when I moved here.  The pond is actually a drainage ditch.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

We didn't watch the debate.  I forgot all about it, but I did hear later that it was loud and noisy.

It will get down into the 30°s tonight.  I'll also be glad when we switch times.  I'm not a morning person either and like the long evenings.

We have a few face masks that Larry used to use for outside work and I've been wondering if we should stop at the Medical supply store and buy a few more when I hear about coronavirus.

Our grandson, Jason, is still in the hospital.  They are going to move him to another hospital where the surgeon can do robotic surgery.  I don't want to go into medical stuff but he is bad off.

I'm glad that Tom and Robin rearranged your TV/Computer room so it is nice and pleasant for you.  We have a nice computer room which we don't use that much anymore.  I usually sit in my comfy easy chair with my iPad which is my mainstay for everything except for my desktop publishing and videos which I do less of nowadays.

Looking forward to warm weather and thinking about buying flowers.  Won't be long now, at least in this area.

I love all your posts.

Well just got off the phone 5.15am to our 111 emergency NHS, although he says not an ambulance emergency after going through a list of medical questions and ruling chest - stomach pains and swellings out, but, i do need to phone my local GP, tell them i have phoned the NHS hotline and get a GP to come out to me if i cant get to see them...We both think it may be cellulitis of the lower leg which is a life threatening emergency as if it is so, the bacteria infection can -will spread to the lymph nodes - blood poisoning sepsis...I need to get this seen to as it is sore, tender, spreading higher, hot and red...I will make a phone call as soon as the surgery is open but probably have trouble getting through to speak to a receptionist let alone speaking to a GP doctor...This started off as looking brown with bubbly rough skin with oedema ankle swellings 3-4 years ago soon after my PP-MS diagnoses, well that was until i started scrubbing-body brushing it to get rid of old skin to bring up the new skin, which is hasn't done, so it is now raw, tender and red and getting higher....Well three plus hours to surgery opening time...heaven knows how or when my legs will get taken a look at...I cant ignore this any longer as if it is cellulitis, it is an emergency, life threatening...oh and i also have a tender mole at the side of my lower right leg that is bumpy and tender...

Another late night post....

This day started out pretty bad.....Bob woke up dizzier than ever...he could hardly stand and maneuver around at all.  We were suppose to be to Dave and Michele's before 8 AM.  we made it, but it was not good.  As the morning progressed he felt better and as long as he kept his head level he was OK, but his stomach continued to be pretty upset.

We were to spend the day there after Michele left for chemo to be there for a crew that was coming in to clean out the air ducts.  Oh my, I hope to never have to sit through that again.  There were two very nice young men doing the work, but the noise of those BIG vacuums was awful!  Michele got home and we had a nice chat with her before it was time to take our granddaughter to her dance practice.

We have another physical therapy session for Bob at 10 AM.  I sure hope he wakes up in better condition tomorrow.

EDIT:   I just read your post, JACKIE.  This issue sounds very serious and I sure hope you can get some help SOON.  Keep calling someone until you can get some help.

JEAN, I am sorry to read your comment about your Grandson Jason's condition.  I hope and pray that the robotic surgery will be successful and he will move into a better situation.  Continued thoughts and prayers.

Pleasant dreams to all.

Jackie, I take it that when you talked to the NHS person, the cellulitis hadn't turned septic -- yet. I certainly would not like to sit there for hours waiting fretting until the doctor to get into his office. I hope the issue is resolved as quickly as possible.

Jenny, I hope Bob is doing much better today.

Jean, I've heard good things about robotic surgery. My best wishes for a good outcome for Jason.

I found this live webcam looking out onto Anchor Bay on Lake St. Clair. It is not in a good spot to see the big ships, but it should make for some lovely sunrises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoayN7m-NtI

George identified a bird I saw the other day from the wing shape I described to him. He said it was an Osprey.Because the sun was not out, none of the birds I saw that day showed any color definition, just shape. Since I was driving I couldn't spend time staring at it for obvious reasons. I thought I saw one near Mom's home about 10 years ago, so I know they are around or pass through.

Eventually got through to the GP receptionist after a couple of hours after the surgery opened, told my or a GP will phone me, this is how they do it, phone, ask questions, diagnose you over the phone, anything but come out to your home and actually take a look at you, and time now is 2.45 pm...Oh i have had a GP phone me as late as 6.45 pm before...Just try to get help here in UK...and to make matters worse, my MS has really taken a bad turn at the moment, really struggling to walk, and that is only my legs, i shan't even tell you how my stomach - gut is feeling...Plus outside my back garden on a high slope, well for the past 4 weeks i have had builders- JCB diggers, tearing up my garden, grass all gone and just mud - earth now and decking a complete mess and putting in a brick wall...I will see if i can post some photos, you wont believe what you see...
Edited: told by the receptionist this morning ( 11.am'ish ) that the phone call wont be long, well it was just before lunchtime, still no phone call and it is now touching on 4.pm..

One of my numerous sayings is that "there is always someone who is worse off than you are" and today's messagess proved it.  What with Jackie, Jean's grandson, Jenny's Bob, I'm doing OK.  I find I am becoming an afternoon person.  I am nowhere near the person I used to be but I can navigate and take care of myself.

Tom came home from weigh-in and gained a half pound; that was bad enough, but he thinks he has the stomach flu and I cannot help him because he is downstairs and I don't do stairs now.

Things may not be good, but they're OK.  If only I could stop the therapists for a while!

Jackie, sometimes it is as bad here in the US.  I'm glad you did reach someone and I hope you get a call back soon.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

So Sorry to look in this morning, and see so many of you with health problems, or your loved ones with health problems.

Jackie - Your situation sounds serious, and should be diagnosed ASAP.  I know that sepsis is dangerous and can spread rapidly, so I hope you soon find out something definite?  If you continue to be ignored, it may be best to take senior transportation, or Uber or the like, to the nearest emergency hospital.

Jenny - So sorry that Bob is still suffering with the vertigo!  Sometimes it's hard to get it under control, but I've heard that it will eventually stop on its own?  In the meantime, you and Bob have lots of responsibilities that must b e attended to, so I hope he gets some relief soon.

Jean - Did your son and dil come back from California, or are they still there?  I hope your son did okay, traveling with his MS.  I'm keeping Jason in my prayers and thinking a lot about him, and Michele too..  Both so young to be so seriously ill.  Cancer is an evil monster.  :(

Mary Ann - It's just one thing after another with Tom.  I'm hoping so much that he does not have an intestinal illness now, on top of everything else.  The one-half pound he gained is not so worrisome, but I understand that it's a disappointment for him.   Maybe the therapy is becoming too much for you, and you can take a break for a while?   Under the circumstances of Tom not being 100% well yet, it must be hard on both of you to have therapy people coming and going all the time?

GP surgery sent a medic man ( first responder ) to see me, I had no idea one was being sent...yes i do have an infection set in ( cellulitis ) he thinks it may have got in through the mole...and after he phoned my GP to confirm with her due to my MS to see if she was happy with his choice of antibiotic - penicillin that i am now on...told t take 4 a day for a week, and only to stop if any rash appears or swellings...the medic has prescribed Flucloxacillin...My temperature is ok, at least i was pleased with that but he has now heard my past 9 months life story, my depressive state after the sudden loss of my Richard, my MS and my alcoholic daughter...he was such a nice man who listened and understood...at least i was not carted off to the hospital ( for my legs not my mental state )...Strange as i was standing talking to the workmen as they had tapped on my back door and asked me which plants i am wanting them to put back, one did ask me if i was ok, i told him no, my MS is really bad at the moment and i had also phoned our NHS early this morning then phoned my GP about my legs, then all of a sudden he said here is a medic, one has just gone past on our site, i said oh, i wonder if this is for me, well in he walked through the back carrying his medic bag, the workmen have now gone...they usually are here from 8.30, leaving at 4pm...the medic has not long left, must have been here from just before 4 to 5.pm......

Jackie, so glad to read that a medical assistant was sent out.  Hopefully the prescription will take care of at least the leg problem.

Mary Ann, I'm glad you are doing well.  Have not accomplished anything today except breakfast and reading the news (which isn't helping my attitude any 😟).  Hope Tom starts feeling better.

Marilyne, if my grandson was elderly, they would probably just suggest palliative care (my opinion) but his oncologist suggested a specialist and they have decided to try surgery.  He does have stage 4 cancer so no one knows what will happen.  The children (Ages 3 and 7) went to see him last evening and that was good for him.  My son might fly home next week but daughter-in-law possibly stay a while longer.

I've got to go get my shower and maybe go to the store for a couple of things.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Things are seldom as  they seem - according to the song.  Tom needs rest as much as I do and I'm going to take a nap.  Tom is napping.  He does try to work and he does not have to walk  up and down stairs to take care of my needs so if I rest, he can rest.  A therapist was here here earlier and I do not expect another today but I do expect a phone call so I will try to take a phone with with me.

Jean, I'd be scared for your grandson with forthcoming surgery but doctors know more than  I do.

Jackie, I'm happy to hear you suddenly have so much help and advice - after years of not getting any attention.  I hope all things positive result.  I know we've preached to the choir for years in your benefit and now you have some one who has listened.

I just keep plugging along and we will see what we will see.  I've been paying bills and I think I have a few more to pay but I'll let them lie there for a day or more now.

Prevention & Treatment

https://tinyurl.com/tbp2mxl

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Follow CDC's recommendations for using a facemask.
CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

For information about handwashing, see CDC's Handwashing website

For information specific to healthcare, see CDC's Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings

These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC does have specific guidance for travelers.
Treatment

There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for COVID-19. People with COVID-19 should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions.

People who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

See Interim Guidance for Healthcare Professionals for information on persons under investigation.

...thank you all for your concern...Think if there is one thing i have learned is to listen to our body, when you feel something is not right, it usually isn't right, one must act on it, and dont leave it too long...after all, we know our bodies...we are living in it, no one else is...at the end of the day, keep putting it off doesn't get us anywhere...it is not going to sort itself out..

Jackie, I'm not fluent in "computerese" but I wonder if when you click on the folder alone if  you remove it from its protection of the entire program.

I wrote two letters before I went to the hospital and never got them mailed.  Tonight I wrote notes for the backs of the letters, telling whey they were so late.  I will ask Tom to put them in the mailbox tomorrow.  We probably have mail in the box anyway.  I am expecting bill after bill after bill now.

Even though it is early ( 8:52), I think I will go to bed.  The main problem with that is if I do manage to go to sleep, I'll wake up in the middle of the night and will not be able to get back to sleep.  But I am sleepy now!

I like to see the lights on the catwalk at Grand Haven at night.
