I am not sure what they mean by " no details yet released about Daisies owner " I was assuming she is owned by the mountain rescuers and trained by them to do this job...I cant see that many people would actually own a Saint Bernard as a pet... just wondering if her owner is in trouble somewhere out there on that mountain, i would hate to think so, although if this is the case the rescue team wont give up until Daisy's owner comes forward..I cant for the life of me see that Daisy would just be abandoned..

Marilyne...
... is that Amy's Kitchen soups, you are referring to that come in cans, if so they are reasonably priced and filling here in UK, also tastes good as well...I have had those in the past but i do try to avoid anything in a tin such as " processed " .....

MarsGal

Marilyne, Anderson's Split Pea is available on Amazon. I doubt that there are any local outlets here. It is an "all natural" soup which is not necessarily organic, it just means there aren't any artificial colorings, flavors or other additives.

My sister told me this morning that she read somewhere that Amy's is cutting back on some products including their soups. I checked on it and they have indeed reduced their offerings due to Covid-19. So have other companies, including Progresso Soups (part of General Mills). I haven't seen where Amy's started their business, but their website says that they started business in 1987, before the USDA began its Organic certification program, so I am assuming they are not originally from California. California Organic growers have long had an Organic certification program in place which the state itself adopted in 1990. In fact, the USDA relied heavily on it to formulate the national certification program. They were instrumental in seeing that the National certification program didn't include GMO's and several other questionable practices. Check out the CCOF's history timeline. Interesting reading. https://www.ccof.org/ccof/history

Just want to say Hello !

The day is quickly flying by.  I read until 4 a.m. as I wanted to finish the book I was reading.  I kept saying, just one more chapter, and then it got so close to the end, I really wanted to finish it.

I then went to bed and slept until around 9.  I still need to get dressed and also get some lunch.

Hope everyone is handling all this virus mess as best they can.  I am about to climb the walls.  Just doesn't seem to be any end in sight for now.  I am afraid it will be a long time before life is "normal" again, if it ever is.

Please stay well and be safe.

Good Morning,

Joy, You win!  ;D  I thought I'd read a long time when I read "one more chapter" until 3:00 a.m. night before last!  I woke up at 8:00 and made it through the day (drowsily!) until 11:30 last night, when I forced myself to turn off the e-book and the light!

Have never seen Amy's soup brand here but do like Progresso.  They've stopped their Tomato Bisque and stores are either out of the Campbell's brand or they've stopped making it, too.
I haven't been able to get any brand of Cream of Celery" soup for several weeks.  It's included in the on-line order list but is always "out of stock".  I only use it for casseroles but do like to have it on hand.  Guess a lot of other people do, too.

Have been to "virtual church" this morning.  Am thinking about putting in a grocery order to be delivered tomorrow.

Hope Everyfriend finds something to find Enjoyable about the day.

We had sunshine this morning.  We rode over to Lowe's and I got a very pretty yellow hibiscus to give to my neighbor.  She has gone through two operations and thought she might need a gift.  I wanted to get something that looked more like a gift but there wasn't much available.  but I know she does love hibiscus plants.

By the time we got home the black clouds were rolling in.  Now they have gone on and no more rain.

Gigi somehow twisted her knee and she said it was really painful.  Jeff's mother lives in a retirement home in South Florida and they are pretty much still in lockdown because the situation in that part of Florida is so bad.  She has been very fortunate that no one has been sick, but they did have one employee who had covid-19 but they caught it right away.  She hasn't been able to play cards with her friends and has to stay in her apartment except for meals.  She is tired of this pandemic like the rest of us.

I think it is time for a snack, a couple of cookies.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Beverly

Just stopping in to say "Good night" so you know I haven't disappeared. Donna and Mike are here tonight and their house closing is tomorrow afternoon. It was nice having the evening to visit but you know things aren't normal when four people are sitting around wearing masks!

See you tomorrow.

Denver

A good Monday HELLO to ALL 🦋

Our weekend passed with no activity to speak of.  The temperaturas are down and with some cloud cover we did not even have to use the air at all.  How delightful 😍

We had a pork tenderloin cooked in our air fryer and it sure turned out yummy.  I am liking the air fryer more and more.  Things cook quickly and it is great to not have to turn on the big oven. Seems pork was a popular choice for many in here.

BEVERLY, hope the closing goes well today for Donna and Mike today.  I know you are happy to have two of your children living at least part time in the Village.

JACKIE, I enjoyed reading about Amy's Kitchen.  Thank you for sharing this.  We do have Amy's brand of items here in our stores.  I have purchased a few of them and they are good.  Such a sweet story about Daisie.  Again, thank you for sharing.

MARILYNE, we always try to stop for some pea soup at Andersen's when we are in the area.  We can not buy it here in our stores, but I see MARSGAL said it can be ordered on Amazon.

Not much more to comment on.  I am waiting for a call back from my doctor.  Have a little issue going and I am hopeful that he will be willing to call in a script for me.  I really do not want to have to go in to his office😩

Enjoy the rest of your day 💐

Jenny - Good to see your message today.  We've also been fortunate as far as the weather is concerned.  Very cool for the past week, here in Northern Cal.  Daytime temps no higher than 80, and the nights   dropping way down into the 50's.  We also haven't had to use our AC for a number of days.

Good to know that you and your family have also been to  Pea Soup Andersen's!  It's a long standing stopover on Hwy 101, when traveling back and forth between Southern and Northern California.  Goes way back to the 1940's or earlier?  I remember stopping there with my parents when I was young.  My brother and I would watch for the billboards, showing "Hap-Pea", and "Pea-Wee", splitting the pea with an anvil! LOL - Brings back good memories.

Hope your doctor okayed your meds over the phone.  I'm getting so I hate to go to the doctor.  I received a message from her this morning, that I never went to the lab for my yearly blood panel.  So now I can't put it off any longer, and will have to go to the lab, one of these early mornings,  and hope there aren't a ton of people there ahead of me.

Beverly - Good to hear that Donna and her husband will soon be settled near you.  That will be so nice for you and Chape.

Jean -  We have surpassed Florida, and are now the "Hot Spot" for Covid-19!  What a distinction that is.  :(    Here's hoping that your son-in-law's Mother is safe in the retirement home in South FL.  It's the nursing homes, rehab, and after care hospitals, that have been so hard hit here.  The retirement homes are in good shape, but NO visitors allowed, and I don't think that residents are allowed to leave unless they agree to a two week quarantine when they return?

Jackie - I hope that everything is moving along in your favor, and that you will soon be out of there, and in your new place?

Beverly

The "kids" closed on the house today and are spending their first night there. They have a mattress on floor for sleeping and a patio table and chairs in the dining room. They'll be moving down in September. We went over to see them tonight and brought them a bottle of wine, some Vermont cheddar cheese, crackers and a couple of wine glasses.  :)

I haven't tried the Amy's soups yet. I have some IMAGINE organic butternut squash soup. I love homemade butternut squash soup so hope I like this. My favorite soup to have with a grilled cheese sandwich is YES tomato and carrot bisque. It's made by the Campbell Soup company but often missing from the shelves.

Callie - Have you tried any of the YES soups?

Jackie - Nice story about Daisie. When I was young a friend of mine had a St. Bernard as a pet. They're a great dog but how they drool! Another gentle giant is the Newfoundland. They're huge, black and look like a bear!

Marilyne - Sorry to hear California now has the dubious distinction of surpassing Florida with Covid-19. I read that our numbers were beginning to drop again. I hope so!

Jean - How is Gigi's knee doing? You mentioned having roast beef at the  Cracker Barrel the other day. Have you ever tried their turkey dinner? It's really good, too.

Jenny - What do you use to season your pork loin? I don't have an air fryer but would like to have some ideas for a crock pot. I need something that doesn't require me to spend time on my feet so I seldom cook now.

Joy - It was good to see you post. I can understand how you feel like "climbing the walls" when you're confined to home so much. Is there someone who can take you for a ride in the car once in awhile? I find that just getting out to see the rest of the world helps.

Marilyne...
... yes it was the inside of our care-homes here in UK a few months ago that governments figures had omitted to not calculate adding into UK's C-Virus deaths and when they did, boy, how our numbers shot up, literally over night..eight thousand..
The retirement complex i am moving into this was one question i bombarded an innocent elderly man who was on his way in as we arrived outside in the car as  a " do you live here, and if so, what positives and negatives if any, would you say about living here " there were no negatives happy to say, and on my question of this C-Virus, no deaths or fatalities have ever occurred inside there amongst the residents, so at least this was reassuring to hear...as i introduced myself,  and told him i was over to view and contemplating moving into here...

Thats another telephone call sorted this morning..I looked up MS Specialist Nurses to see who covers the catchment areas to where i am soon moving to, ( we cant just choose anyone, ) found the name and contacted the group, just had a reply and taken my details, told when i register with my new local GP they will pass forward my details of my illness, so that seems to be all organised as at present i dont have an MS Specialist Nurse..

Marilyne

When my Dad was getting older,  and I would ask him how he was feeling,  he used to laughingly say -  "I feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck"!  I think I'm following in his footsteps!  Every morning it's taking me longer and longer to get myself together.  This sheltering in place, and all the bad news, (both medical and political), seems to be sucking all the energy and enthusiasm out of me?

Makes me think I should get out for awhile today, and get a change of scenery. Maybe I can talk AJ into going for a drive through town, and neighboring cities.  I'm curious to see if the outdoor restaurant seating is as busy as it looked a few weeks ago, around the 4th of July?  Nothing we would be interested in trying at this point, since cases of c-virus have escalated out of control here.
Sandy came over on Sunday, to have AJ fix the broken turn indicators, on her car.  She was here for only about an hour, and seemed very stressed and hopeless.

Beverly - I'm really glad that Donna and her husband are so close, and that they're happy with their new home.  She deserves to be happy, after going through that long siege of chemotherapy.

Jenny - that reminds me to ask again about how Michele is feeling, since her treatments have ended?  I hope she has had a positive visit with her doctor?

Jean - Same to you, regarding Jason?  Are your son and dil, still in California?

Today i mixed business with pleasure...My friend took me out in her car with both my rollator and mobility scooter for a test run with the mobility scooter, we went along the promenade - esplanade, lovely to get the fresh air and sea breeze onto my face...Weather warm sunny and pleasant, several people out and about, not too crowded, the cruise liners stationary in the centre of the sea, the sea was calm, just perfect...Something else happened that uncannily was perfect timing ( a fluke ) that almost didn't happen..but i shan't say what that was just in-case i jeopardise it...but yes, " our God does work in mysterious ways - circumstances, " and i truly do believe that...

Another day, another dollar!

MARILYNE, I have been known to use the statement, "I feel like I have been run over by a Mack truck", that and "I feel like I have been pulled through a knot hole backward"!! 🙀😹. Funny sayings!  My sons like to quote sayings that they have heard from us over the years and it gives us all a good laugh😘  Thank you for asking about Michele.  She was still down and out this morning, but is so happy the treatments are over, HOPEFULLY forever, and she is anxiously awaiting the news of when she can get the scans done to see how things look. 🙏  Sadly they learned yesterday of a doctor friend of theirs that took his life over the weekend.....these are some very hard times for many.  I hope your Sandy will be OK.

Thank you for the comments regarding my hope of getting meds from my doctor without going in.........
WELL..... no I did not!  I knew it was going to be a long shot!  I called as soon as the office opened yesterday morning.  They called me back around 4PM. Too late to do anything then.  IF I would come in to the office this morning they would take me back right away and get the UTI test done right away, so I would not have to go to a lab and sit with many others.  GREAT.  We decided to fast so that we both could get our blood drawn at the same time in hopes of doing this in prep for our yearly physicals that we were suppose to do last June.  They have called and messaged us a few times to get this done.  Arrived at the office and after checking in the person came out to say that the phlebotomists is not in the office this week so I will have to go down to Lab Corp and have the test done.  WHAT??  Just late yesterday afternoon I was told blah blah blah!  I never said a word....off we went to the lab.  Walked in and the place was packed.....we were told the wait would be approximately 45 minutes🙀🙀 I was asked to bring a urine sample, so I asked if I could just leave and and be done.  After a bit of the gal pretty much acting like I was overstepping my grounds.....she agreed to let me do it.  Mind you, the hope for blood work to be done was abandoned back in the doctors office.  Off I go to the back to give her the sample hidden in my little sack.  WHAT you do not have a sterilized container?  Well I can't take that.....she grumbled a but then got a small container and filled it and said, "no one will ever know the difference"....In the doctors office they hand you a paper cup.....now do you think it is anymore sterile than my special little glass bottle?  Hahahha. Now I wait for a telephone call.....it is going on 5 PM..... I highly doubt I will hear a word today.  What is the rush??  I had it all weekend so I doubt if I am going to die!  Sorry for all the detail, but I feel better just getting the frustration out of my system🤪🤪

BEVERLY, happy the closing went well and Donna and Mike spent the night in their new place.  I saw a recipe to rub the pork with olive oil, season with garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.  Then rub on a spicy mustard and brown sugar.  I do not think the spices flavored it as much with a quick cooking like it might in a crock pot or a pan, but it was tasty.

JACKIE, how nice you got out for a bit of fun on your test run!  I am hopeful that what even happened that you were pleased about comes to fruition for you😘

I wish you all a good evening......

Jenny - I need to call my doctor tomorrow for the same reason! I think I have another UTI. I hope I don't run into the same amount of problems you had. Funny! I also get a paper cup at the doctor's office.  :) Thanks for the hints for pork loin. I think Chape would like it.

Marilyne - I'm sorry Sandy is having a rough time. It's so hard for people to be as isolated as this. We're meant to be social beings.

Jackie - You sound very pleased with whatever happened today! I hope it turns out well for you.

I don't think I've mentioned a scare I had a month ago. I have a swallowing problem (have had lots of tests and know what it is). I can't eat anything like white meat chicken and have to swallow only small amounts at a time. Our son was down here and I fixed some nice baked chicken cutlets for him and my husband. It looked so good I decided to take just one little bite. Bad move....it became stuck at the top of my esophagus. Couldn't get anything up or down. I tried not to make a big deal out of it (it will usually go down eventually) but I couldn't even swallow water.  By 2 a.m. it was so bad I woke Chape up to take me to the all-night Urgent Care. I was dehydrated (nothing to eat or drink since noon the day before) so they gave me  saline IV solution.  No chance of seeing my gastroenterologist at that time of night. Chape tried calling her when the office opened. The person at the desk said they were all booked up but could get me an appointment in August!  :tickedoff:  You can imagine his response. It wasn't the doctor's fault as she hadn't received my message. (She called later.) In the meantime my son took me to the Urgent Care a mile from here and they were wonderful. Started another IV, understood the problem and started me on Prednisone. By that afternoon I could swallow water and things like yogurt. I'm being careful now and hope I don't have another episode like that.

Jenny, now if only we had in S&F's " a " let off steam " room.." if only..

Marilyne

Beverly - I feel so bad for you, with your swallowing issue, and I can relate!  Your last message really hit home with me!  I have a similar problem . . . a paralyzed vocal cord.  Most people don't realize that we have two vocal cords that work together so we can talk.  When one of them becomes useless, the remaining one has to do all the work.  Same as you, I've had all the tests and I have a good ENT doctor here in town.  This started about five years ago for me, and has changed my life significantly.  My voice is raspy and hoarse sounding, and tires quickly.  I can't talk for long, so am unable to have a decent conversation with anyone anymore.   It causes related problems - I choke easily, am unable to cough effectively, and have to be very careful of everything I eat, which is only soft, easy to chew and swallow foods.  There are more, related problems - I could go on and on, but I've said enough.  I just want you to know that I understand.  I'm glad you got through your latest crisis okay!

Sandy

I have a similiar problem
with "laryngospasms"

https://www.healthline.com/health/laryngospasm

I have had all kinds of tests,
also.    I have to be very careful
with what I eat.

I get the spasms,  but unlike you,  I
do not get food stuck...   I thought it
was asthma related ... but not sure still
what exactly is my problem ...

I am still seeing doctors  for this condition
but because of Covid  I have put off
further appointments Until thikgs get better.

I have had to learn to relax and not panic and
that has helped my spells to go away .. They
usually only last a few minutes.

I am sorry to hear that you and Marilyne
also have  throat issues...

If it isn't one thing, it is another,
as my Mom used to say ...

Same with my Multiple Sclerosis disease, speech and swallowing problems are all part of it, although i am not too bad ( not affecting me as yet ) compared to some MS'ers i have mingled with in the past that cant eat, cut up food, nor use their hands to use a knife or fork and have to be fed by someone like a baby..Thank Heavens i can still feed myself but for how long as the nerves have already gone in my right hand which will stop us cutting up foods....
What i dont like is air trapped as it try's to pass through inside the body, ( feels as if it is stuck, ) a blockage that tightens the chest and blocks my breathing, my throat...I have to wait until i burp a few times, pass wind, clear the airway, only then will it clear, i then relax, panic over...

Denver

It is very late and I am sure most EVERYFRIEND, except JACKIE, are most likely sleeping.

It was a CrAzY day here.  I waited until nearly noon before calling the doctors office to see if I could get the results of my UTI test.  LONG story short.....
the lab had a "mishap" with my test, so doctor wants me to go to another lab and have it redone again.  I tried to stay calm but did let the assistant know that I was not happy to have to go out again to a lab where there would probably be way too many people and reminded her again that we are trying to stay safe and going in closed rooms with many people is not in my best interest.  She said she was going to call the lab to see WHAT exactly happened.  She called back 45 minutes later and said she still did not know what happened but the doctor would be calling in a prescription for me as soon as he finished his lunch! 🤪  HALLELUJAH!

There was a GOOD part of the day too, as we celebrated 53 years of marriage today.  The years sure do seem to fly by quickly😘

BEVERLY, I am sorry to read you, too, are having UTI issues.  Best of luck getting what you need!  Wow, how scary to read about your swallowing issue.  I am sure it must be frightening when it happens which I am sure does not help the problem to resolve.

SANDY, I am sorry you have a similar issue also.  I hope you will soon be able to see your doctor

Oh goodness, you also have some throat issues, MARILYNE.  I am sorry to read about yours too.  I talked to Dr. Dave and he said Michele was feeling much stronger today.  We are always happy when we hear this.

AND JACKIE, with the MS issues of similar things.  Yikes, you poor gal.

Goodnight.

I guess you can put me in the same swallowing problem boat too. I have had a problem off and on for a year or so. I mentioned it to my regular doctor some time ago and said I was trying to take smaller bites to help alleviate it. He did not have anything to say about it, as usual. Now I am thinking of calling my ear, nose and throat doctor's office and bypassing my GP altogether. Unfortunately, their website indicates only their Hershey office is open and only taking limited appointments.

Lucy has not been eating her wet food and therefore not getting her thyroid medicine. She is due for her six month blood work so off she goes to the vet today. He has some stuff he smears on her ear to improve her appetite. Once I get to their parking lot I must call them to let them know I am there, leave her at the door and they will come and get her. I must wait in the car until she is ready to come home. It takes about 20 minutes for the test results, so I will sit in the car and read while waiting.

Sandy

I am very much caught up with
my dr's appointments.  The only one that I am on hold
for is a sleep  apnea  test to see if I am having
issues with breathing at night... I eventually will
have to be be clinically diagnosed with asthma...

Today, instead of one doctor  (aka primary care person)
we have to see many docotors depending on the issues we
have. More doctors, more money,  and some how
important stuff can get lost in the  mess...

So it is very important that we pay
attention to what is going on with our own
health care.

Sandy, love the picture of Fe and the butterfly!

My Doctor Experience yesterday:
No problems getting in and out of the office for my annual "Wellness Check" (Medicare) exam with P.A. who has known me and my family for many years.
I told her that, last year, when I saw the young doctor who had replaced my retired family physician (also known me/family...) I happened to mention a concern that wasn't on the "check list".  We talked about it and I was separately billed for $113!

She said that some insurance companies insist on a separate designation of the "Wellness Check" if anything else is discussed!!!!!  She also said that older doctors (and PAs like her) usually went a bit above and beyond what the Wellness Check requires but younger ones "follow the rules".

I had no issues to discuss this time and, unless something shows up on the lab work or bone density test, I guess I'm medically "good to go" for a while longer.

I remember one year telling my now retired doctor that I was sometimes having a problem swallowing food.  He quietly and patiently said,  "Well...sometimes... as we grow older... we don't chew our food as well as we should, particularly if we're with other people".  I asked if he meant I should chew with my mouth closed and not talk with my mouth full.  He just smiled.  ;D
(He often tended to gently start with "As we grow older...." when I "complained" about something that was slowing me down.  ;)

Have been out to do errands this morning and intend to spend the afternoon doing desk work (i.e., "paying bills")

Hope Everyfriend finds something Enjoyable about today.

Normally it would be behind me,  except during the time
of Covid, when activities like this are unfortunately cancelled.
So we have to be creative and engage in activities
together that follow the rule of covid living.

And so it goes ...
The important thing is to keep trying and not give up!

Glad i am not in the place tomorrow that i am going to be in 7 days time for their weather...Although i am at present in the South, our tomorrows weather is no where near as hot as it is going to be where i am soon moving back to, back home as i call it...Our South weather tomorrow will be 69.8 F, where i shall be next week is going to hit a whopping 93.2 F tomorrow...says our BBC weather forecast chart..
