We enjoyed a beautiful Veterans Day here in the Mile High City.

I loved reading all the comments about our loved ones that served in the military 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

We went to our local National Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Logan today.  What better way to feel patriotic than looking at the rows and rows of the white headstones.  Sadly there was no service due to Covid😢

JEAN, we were relieved to see that Eta did what most hurricanes in the gulf do....turn to the East.  Poor Panama City sure did not need another direct hit.

Pleasant dreams to all.

A poignant day for all who have had fathers - uncles, who fought for our countries, as my late father did...He was in the Paras regiment who fought on the frontline against both the Germans and the Japs...North Africa and Italy...
And as for the " Japs " what they did with their bayonets, to babies and pregnant women...they dont show that in the war films...My father saw it...and using my fathers words " the Japs were B**s..

Some good news coming on my early morning tv news, was also mentioned yesterday of our UK Queen Elizabeth's soon to be 70 years rein...In 18 months time UK is to be treated to an extra day off to mark our Queens 70 years on the throne...Told it will be a weekend of celebration's for her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee...I well remember her Silver Jubilee 1977, i was 26, her Golden Jubilee 2002, i was 51, Diamond Jubilee 2012, and i hope i shall be around 2022 for her Platinum, also hope Prince Philip will be too..She is a brilliant Queen, i amongst many others only have admiration for her...
And boy, does UK need something to look forwards to, after the nightmare we have been living through, and still am living through...

Through Amazon Prime (CBS All Access) I was able to watch "The Queen at 90".
Beautifully done of a beautiful lady.  I notice there were two of these documentaries, titled the same, but it looks like they will be a bit different.  One is narrated by one of the women who was in Downtown Abbey.  The other, kind of not narrated, but with William being interviewed; also Prince Edward and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex.  Tons of good footage from when Queen Elizabeth was a young girl, right up through marriage to Phillip, Coronation and dozens of her at various celebrations, and functions.  I was enthralled as I always am with programs about the Monarchy.  It is a lovely, lovely piece and I do so hope you can get it on whatever networks to which you have access.

Looks like everyone is having a reasonably good day today?    We're also doing okay . . . the only bad thing is coming to terms with no family Thanksgiving to look forward to.  :(   I still have high hopes for Christmas.

Jean -  So good to see your message, and to know that you're doing okay.  So many hurricanes hitting FL this year, and most seem to move up the Gulf Coast, toward the Panhandle.    There aren't any California avocados this time of year!   WE also have to be content with the ones from Mexico.  The Haas variety do really well in Mexico this time of year, and I've heard they are grown on large farms there that are owned by Americans.   I think they're just as good as the avocados from California.   We also eat a lot of them, year around.

Tome - Like you, I watch any and all specials and series about the Royal Family!   I'll take a look at your recommendation, on amazon.   I'm sure y ou are aware, that the 4th season of The Crown", will be here this Sunday! Netflix.

Amy  -  I hope you look in, because I wanted to tell you that I enjoyed reading your message this morning in Soda Shoppe.    The one about you helping with the newborn baby lambs, and also very interesting about your Dad helping to bring two families from Holland, to Canada.   I liked the Dutch custom of cooking the roast at home, and then returning to the butcher shop to have it sliced thin!   What a great idea that is!

Amy

Marilyne, glad you enjoyed reading the post. Working with sheep is a lot easier than the cattle but I loved them both.  I didn't like using the larger needles on the lambs so I used the ones a person would use for insulin.......back then. Much easier on the lamb.....and me.

A late night post on the eve of Friday the 13th 😵😱

We enjoyed the day as it was sunny and nice and the sky was bright blue with nary a cloud in sight!

JACKIE, there has been a lot of talk on our TV about the Queen celebrating her 70 year rein.  There will be TV coverage of the festivities.  Today started The Masters in Augusta and it will be the main thing covered this weekend on TV.  It is normally played in April but was delayed this year due to Covid 19.  I personally do not see how it is any safer now than it was in April as the numbers are just as bad now as they were then😤. Our local schools will return to ALL remote learning after Thanksgiving weekend until after the first of the year.  Tomorrow will be our grandsons last football game as they have cancelled the rest of the season.

I am off to bed before the clock strikes 12!  Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning it is 12° with light rain on the snow again in the Interior! Snowplows and graders worked all day yesterday and again all night clearing snow. On our back street, we still have side banks of snow still not clear after center plowing.

Yesterday was a very good day as I was able to get some nagging paperwork finished and approved until the next renewal. I'm still working on finding an opening for an eye exam and new glasses. However, all in all, it's been a good week.

Sandy,  repeating my  :hb3: wishes for your great grand-son.

I doubt I'll live long enough to become a great-grandmother. All three of my "20-something" grandchildren are too career-oriented to even think about marriage - although Grandson seems to be enjoying the dating scene during his last year of college.

My Dad was in WWI and stationed in France.  However, he was a Quartermaster and worked in the supply depot at La Rochelle - a long way from the battle zone. I have his photo album including pictures from his trip to Paris after the Armistice and some of the battlefields.

Hubby was in the Army 1955-1957 and stationed in Germany.  His assignment was patrolling the area of the Berlin Wall near Nuremburg, where he was stationed. He said the American patrols would toss candy bars and cigarettes to the German patrols on the other side of the "fence".  He was sent home on Emergency because his Dad was terminally ill and completed his service in a local Reserve Unit. We met about 3 weeks before his Dad died.  Also have his pictures of time in Germany - including a trip to Paris.

No brothers and very few male cousins; I do know one cousin was KIA but he was single and we didn't see his parents all that often.

Thanks to Tome and Marilyn for mentioning the new season of "The Crown".  There was an article in this morning's paper about the change of actors for the Queen and others as they "age" during the seasons.  If I understood correctly, Diana appears in this season and there will be two more seasons after this one.
Wonder if we'll be able to "binge watch" all the episodes.

It's been a busy week.  Domestic Duties are the Plan du Jour.  I slept in and need to Get Busy.

...my late father had a saying he said to me on many occasions..." never say never, girl " anyone of your grands may well surprise you yet...
My father got to see my daughter 1969, but not her son, my grand son, 19 years later, father of Charlie...he died just a short while before daughter got pregnant 1987-88..
My father would be proud knowing we are keeping our family surname still going...

My Dad was drafted into the Navy, in January 1943.  Lots of men drafted at that time, who were over age 30.  He had turned 33 in September, and served until the War was finally over, in August 1945.  He was stationed at the Naval Air Transport Base in Honolulu, and flew to the many Pacific Islands where battles were raging.  They would fly in to the Islands, to leave supplies like food and ammunition, and then fly back to Honolulu with injured service men, as well as hundreds, who had been killed.  It was a grim assignment, as you can imagine.

I was eight and my brother was six, when he was drafted, so I was old enough to be well aware of the War.  He came home on leave during that time, and I can remember how proud I was of him in his uniform.  I turned 11 in August of 1945, when the War was over and he came home.  My Mom worked throughout the War years, and my Grandma lived with us, and was always there when we came home from school.

AJ was drafted into the Army, in April 1957,  about six months after we got married.  He got out in April of 1959.  It was a wonderful two years for us.  We lived in Washington State for the first six months, and then he was assigned to the US Army Band, at Ft. MacArthur, in San Pedro - suburb of Los Angeles.  My parents lived only about about thirty miles inland, and other relatives lived close, so it was a great place to serve the two years for us.  Our daughter Shelley (Michele), was born in May of '58, and during that month, four other baby girls were born to members of the band.  As you can imagine, we were a close knit group of wives!   So many fond memories!

Marilyne, that's interesting as my dad was in the navy, based out of that area. I understand he saw a lot of combat, had two ships sunk under him, and was assigned to the marines when they retook the home Japanese Islands. I heard all of this from my mom. Dad would not mention his service or what happened on the home islands, but I understand it was grim.

Several members on both sides of my family, men and women, served with some KIA and some still missing. This was in WWII and Korea.

My first husband was a staff sergeant in the army during Vietnam, while my second was assigned to the USS Saratoga as a hazmat tech. Their berths were directly above the nuclear reactor, so you can imagine they took their work seriously. After the war, he transitioned out of the navy and joined the air force as a hazmat instructor.

My aunt's husband was an army colonel and was severely injured and briefly taken prisoner at one point. My aunt said several members of their church asked him if he prayed to God during that time. He said no; his private thoughts were of his mother.

Do you know that out of all the years of our existence, there have been only thirty years in recorded history where there wasn't a war somewhere?

Duplicated in Soda Shoppe...
...On the computer with my back to the tv, when i caught something that children were saying, re, Children In Need 2020...First child said I have had 14 operations, second child said probably 5 or 10, third child said I have had 50 operations...Well this certainly got my attention...all three had had kidney transplants..
Now they and several more are all singing ( The Harmonies of Hope Choir ) which gives children who have had kidney transplants the chance to come together through music...

Shirley - Callie..

..i want to thank you both again for my great grandson Charlies 5th Birthday wishes yesterday, my only Great-Grand-child, i shall pass them on...you have both brought back memories of our S & F's earlier days when we would have all wished a Happy Birthday to everyone's great-grand's, grand's, sons and daughters, sadly those caring days of Seniors and Friends have long gone...and of course back then we had a great card team, of which i was part of, good memories indeed, of what once was....a very friendly, caring, genuine and lovely community, so many loved members and moderators sadly gone, oh to have that S & F's back again but we cant put back the clocks...this is what it is, members purposely ignoring members they dont like, where innocent children and the celebration of their birthdays suffer because of it, they get caught in the middle....

This post is duplicated over in Soda Shoppe..

GOOD MORNING 🍁

It is a blustery day here.....when we first got up it was snowing...but that did not last too long and eventually the sun came out🌞 It is cold and very windy🌬🌬🌬

Belated HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY wishes to Charlie, JACKIE 🎂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES to DON.  I sure do miss seeing posts from you.  Hope you are doing well.  I STILL think about you on Sundays and wish we could still have your program to enjoy🎼🎹

Today is my honeys 77th Birthday 🥳 The boys have all called and sang to him and he even had a 🎂 delivered to the door from our Boston Family.  It is a cinnamon pound cake and it looks delicious.

We have been invited to Dave and Family for dinner and we ARE going to go and enjoy what might be our last get together for awhile as our numbers are rising like crazy and we have moved into the more restrictive color.

Yesterday was Grandson Matt's last football game.....an abrupt ending to the season due to Covid.  He played a wonderful game and we both got to watch from a distance. In school learning has been cancelled IMMEDIATELY until at least the first of the year.  This was to go into effect on this coming Wednesday, but a text came while we were at the football game saying immediately.

Have a great rest of your day.

Don't have much to report. It has cooled down to the fifties during the day now, and it looks like we will get a hard frost later this week.

Jackie, I hope Charlie had a wonderful birthday, with a wonderful year ahead of him in spite of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Good morning. Just checking in, as I noticed that I have been absent for a few days.

I really have not been on the computer that much.  Just don't have anything interested to talk about.

I am still being very lazy and sleepy.  I have been sleeping good, but still feel so sleepy when i first wakeup..  Doesn't take long for the zzz's to show up.  Sundays are always lazy days around here. You never see anybody on Sundays.  I do have to make a trip downstairs to pick up a couple day's mail.  I do need to get a shower and get dressed first.

It is a kind of dreary day, so I am sure a nap will appear sooner or later.

I glanced over most of the messages above me, and it sounds like everyone is "hanging in there".

Stay well and have an enjoyable afternoon.

I have done my walkabouts., two journeys outside our building to the rubbish bins, and a couple of walks along the buildings hallways both with my rollator, and a lovely couple of hours on a floor above sitting and talking of our Town as we remember it, baring in mind i am 69 and he ( Sid ) has a good advantage over me at age of 93, one could literally knock a good 10 or so years off him, and between the pair of us we have excellent memories of our our Town was back then...and some things that happened in our town that either i heard from my family or some things i was listening to for the first time, such as sandpits, we both jolted each others memories...I also surprised him with what i remembered and was aware of some 50-60 years ago..and as for the stories, we could both write a book...including our dentist horror stories... some humorous some horrendous..
We had a few laughs, such a lovely person..

Good Morning,

High winds blew down some power lines last night and electricity was off for almost 2 hours.  Fortunately, my cell phone and Tablet were both fully charged so, although I didn't have internet access, I could read, play games and keep in touch with family.

Jackie, what I miss most is good "discussion" conversations in person.  Very happy to have this and other venues for electronic communication but there's nothing better than face to face exchange.

One group I really miss is the church Lunch Bunch.  We often spent a couple of hours over lunch talking about all sorts of things.  Often got smiles from others when we were "analyzing" favorite college and pro sports teams.
Guess they were surprised that 4 "Ladies of a Certain Age" would know enough about the subject to discuss - and have opinions about details.  ;D

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Callie..
.. i so agree..face to face and with good company..

And why not, ( 4 ladies of a certain age ) my Richard, i would rib when football related questions-multiple answers came on tv game shows when i asked him to pick 1-2or3, and it turned out that my guess was the right guess, his was wrong...I would rib him by saying " and there was me thinking you knew all about football"
he knew very well i hated all things football, had no interest in it...Ha ha, i told him that my late father often got me marking the Littlewoods pools coupons ( 60 years ago ) so i still vaguely have memories of football teams both English and Scottish that were played during the summer and winter seasons...Other correct answers were just lucky guesses..when he asked " how on earth did you know that " told him i just knew it..

Callie, I agree. My small group of friends often went shopping together even tho many went for the company and the lunch afterward rather than purchasing. We also got together for cocktails and poker or rummy nights.

We would head out for a weekend at a local hot spring or berry picking in the summer. This past summer was hard without my local friends, and now we would have been gathering to discuss everything we planned and hoped for the holidays. Those daily texts are a godsend!

I would be lost without Seniors & Friends and my online friends!

Marilyne

I checked into S&F about three hours go, and left a message in Library,  then came here to B&T and left a long message.    I must have forgotten to click on "Post", after finishing, because I see the it isn't here!  Happens every so often, and is so infuriating, when I've spent a long time on a message.  I'm trying to remember what I had to say, but my "short term memory", is getting shorter, I guess.  :-[  ::)

I know I mentioned our latest Covid lockdown, here in this county.  Once again, hair salons, barber shops, churches, gyms, etc., have been shut down, and restaurants continue with outdoor seating only.    Also, the few schools that were open, will be closed down again. I guess we all need to relax and accept the reality, that the is the way things will be for the foreseeable future.  We'll all be celebrating a very different Holiday season this year.

Callie - I was thinking about Miss Ellen, and wondering how she is doing in NYC?  According to the news, it's a "hot spot", like it was before.  I feel so bad for the young adults like Ellen, who have had to put their careers or education on hold, because of this Covid beast!

Patricia - I am curious as to the hot springs, the you mentioned visiting in the summer?   We have lots of hot springs in various locations around California, that are now mostly resorts, or health spas, utilizing the therapeutic pools.  Most or all here, are located in earthquake prone areas.

CallieOK

Marilyne, Miss Ellen is working at the retail shop where she worked when she first moved to NYC and has continued her Nanny job, Both may be affected if predicted shut-down occurs but, shes a good money manager and I think she'll be okay.
She and roomies manage to get out for fun. They recently went to one roomies home in Connecticut and picked apples. (No quarantine requirements between NYC and Connecticut.)   They wore fun stage makeup with masks to take candy to apartment neighbors for Halloween and I suspect[ they already have plans for a fun Thanksgiving. I remember one year when Ellen took turkey to a friend"s apartment on the subway.
