...thank you, just want to get that day ( Eater Monday ) over with....I will be facing this alone...

Denver

It is a beautiful Saturday here in the Mile High City 🌸🌼🌼🌷🌹. The windows are open and the fresh air feels wonderful.

I had a telephone call from my dad a bit ago and he was so excited and happy as he had just returned from having his drivers license renewed for another four years!  I am happy for him, but do not really understand how any state would allow him to drive.  At least I know he will never be driving again, although he certainly would like to😘

JACKIE, my thoughts and prays for you on Monday.  I wish there would be someone that could go and be with you🥰

It will be a beautiful Easter Sunday here tomorrow and oh how I wish it could be a traditional one....dressing up in a cute dress and going to a special service.....seeing others enjoying themselves.  Children hunting Easter Eggs. My little Jonah will be going to his Daddy's Golf Club and will participate in a egg hunt.  They are going to do a egg hunt run for him today so he knows what to expect.  He colored eggs and had a fun time already.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday 💐

Easter Greetings to everyone!
Hoping you all enjoy a pleasant Sunday, and that the weather is Springlike, wherever you live. 🐣

Jenny - Your Dad, getting his drivers license renewed at age 97, makes me smile!  Although he will likely never drive again, I'm sure it makes him happy and proud, to know that he applied, and he was not automatically turned down by the DMV.  We are all still important, no matter how old we are!
I'll be thinking about you next week, and praying that your surgery is successful, and that you will have a quick recovery. 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

Jackie - I'll be thinking about you this coming week also, and hoping that your MRI will show little to no progression of your MS.  I hope you get a quick reading of the results, so that you don't have to wait and worry. Keep us posted!  🙏🏻 🙏🏻

Back home after spending 30-40 minutes inside ( brain and neck ) an MRI Scanner, no Gadolinium injection...At one point i hesitated-they were not sure i was going to go inside as they placed this large white plastic looking head cage on me that i could not free myself from...but i gave in and just wanted to get this over with...Although earplug i still very much heard every sounds this MRI Scanner made, and there was many different loud sound, and of course one cant move any parts of the body whilst this is going on...So trapped, very rigid-stiff, with eyes fully closed i got through it...so glad when the conveyer belt got me out...

Jackie -  Good that your MRI is now over.   I had one about 10+ years ago, also of my head and neck.   I was totally unprepared, and like you, I found it to be an extremely unpleasant experience!   I've heard since about open MRI's, that are more comfortable and not so claustrophobic, but I don't know of anyone who has ever had one?   I will be holding positive thought, that your results will be good.

Easter Sunday, was very quiet here.   Daughter Sandy, came over for a couple of hours, but didn't stay for dinner.   Her age group, 50 to 60, has just become eligible for the Covid Vaccine, but there is a long wait for appointments, so it will be a while before she gets her shot.

Talked to older daughter on the phone.   She and Claire will be getting their second vaccination today, and will plan to come to visit us in exactly two weeks.  I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Jenny -  Hope to hear from you today, and that you are doing well?   Also would be nice to hear from the rest of our members who post here?

patricia19

Good morning, it's only plus nine presently and the third day of an atmospheric sleet and ice storm. I've never seen this much snow or any lasting past the Easter holiday in almost seventy years.

Today I'll need to go to the bank and grocery via taxi, my first trip outside since last March fifth. It's been eight weeks and still healing.

I have had both types of MRIs with no issues. I do know about one girl who had several hairpins plus several earrings in her hair and ears that caused a major delay, but no other known issues to my knowledge.

FlaJean

Beautiful day.  Made a trip to the store and the weather is just perfect.  Felt so good to get outside for a little while.

Thinking about you today, Jackie, going through that MRI.  I've never been through that experience and hope I never have to.

Nothing much going on in our area.  Enjoy your day!

...if there was any plusses, i was comfortable, lower legs raised over a block, and it does not hurt...More frightening with the noises and vibrations, and the claustrophobia, the feeling of being buried alive if one is not used to these machines...This makes my third time inside these magnets...You can only escape when they roll you out, and of course they are not in the room while they are operating it, behind glass window, but you have a handheld buzzer, i have never needed to use it, and we can communicate with each other....Oh and ear plugs and ear muff wont block the sounds out, not forgetting i was still made to wear a coroner virus face covering when underneath it...

A good Monday HELLO to ALL🌹🌷💐

So happy to see your post JACKIE and know that this procedure is over for you.  So proud that you stayed TOUGH and saw it through.  Now I pray for the results to be acceptable and the doctors can help you with your ongoing pain and issues of this horrific disease. HUGS TO YOU, my friend😻

MARILYN, your Easter sounded nice in spite of not getting to have a family gathering. We all appreciate getting to spend time with children, your Sandy, no matter how short the visit. Best of luck to
your daughter and Clair getting their Covid Vaccine.

PATRICIA, I know you had to look forward to getting out, and I hope everything went well!

JEAN, good to see you checking in today.  Enjoy your nice weather!

We did go to Dave and family for Easter Dinner. It was wonderful to see them all.....our meal was wonderful.....lamb, ham, scolloped potatoes, veggie meadly, sweet potato casserole.  DELICIOUS🌸  Michele is of course still in sever pain...she is laying on the couch , getting up only to go to the bathroom with help from Dave.  She was not able to join us at the table but Dave went and sat with her and we enjoyed a nice catch up chat with the children.  Michele shared more details about her up and coming surgery.  Her spine and pelvis area is so much worse than I knew, but with thoughts and prayers and guidance of her two surgeons hands, the outcome of this surgery will be nothing short of a miracle.  God only knows this girl deserves to have the outcome be exactly what they are hoping and projecting for her🙏🙏🙏

Before we headed home Dr. Dave put on yet ANOTHER hat and removed my stitches from my arm.  It felt so good to get them out‼️

I am waiting for a call from the hospital to hear when my pre op appointment will be and what time my surgery will be scheduled on Friday. Anxious to get 'er done, but fearful at the same time😩😩

Just talked to my dad.....my brother had a accident yesterday.....he was greasing the propeller of a model airplane he was taking to his son and families home to fly before their dinner....the propeller started and sliced his arm open.  He spent the rest of the day in the emergency room getting released with 9 interior stitches and 19 outside stitches‼️‼️‼️ I never ever want to say the dreaded "what else can go wrong", but could not help but think it!

I hope many will check in and tell us about their EASTER DAY.

HUGS and PRAYERS for ALL🌷

Oh Jenny...
...hate to mention it but, you have more in common with your brother than you knew it...both damaging your arms, having stitches, almost at the same time...what an unexpected coincidence...His unfortunate accident does sound nasty...he was very lucky not to have lost his arm...

Hoping you have the lesser surgery come Friday, and you soon receive your call-up call......

I am sad to hear of Michele's ongoing situation, not feeling up to joining in with the Easter family celebration because of the pain and discomfort she is going through...

Marilyn...
... guess once we go inside an MRI Scan for the first time not knowing what to expect, we never forget it...Well i know the one i went inside was not one of these " open " ones...Told today by its operator that many are frightened going inside it...

Easter Weekend Snow Dump

Fairbanks North Star Borough Schools will be closed on Monday as the region digs out from more than a foot of snow -- in places much more -- that fell over the Easter weekend.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities asked people to avoid traveling on the Parks Highway, as plows were unable to keep up from the falling and drifting snow. Some freezing rain also was reported in the area Saturday night.

Scattered power outages were reported this morning, and as the wind begins  picking up early this afternoon, more are expected.

As of 9 a.m., unofficial measurements showed more than 19 inches of snow on Old Murphy Dome Road, 14 inches in Goldstream, and almost a foot in Two Rivers. The official measurement on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus was 12.4 inches.

DOT said conditions are very difficult, and its drivers will be focusing on Priority 1 and 2 roads today and hope to get to Priority 3 and 4 roads tonight. (See dot.alaska.gov/wintermap )

According to Weather Service measurements, that's a new two-day April snowfall record for Fairbanks, eclipsing the previous record of 11.4 inches, set in 1948. According to climatologist Rick Thoman (@AlaskaWx) "heavy snows (or rain) in Fairbanks in April are unusual. Past 106 years, only six storms produced 6" (15cm) or more accumulation in two days."

Thoman also noted that Fairbanks' snowfall between March 29-April 3 would be at least 21 inches, well more than the 1948 record of 16.9".

After the storm moves through, temperatures in the Interior will drop sharply, with lows in the double digits below zero by midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

Needless to say, my trip was postponed.

Sounds like some of us are not having a fun time the last few weeks. Sorry to hear it. I hope things get better soon. I've been feeling a bit under the weather myself with my GERD acting up a bit and generally not feeling up to par.

This week I am on the hunt to find someone who can fix a problem at the bottom of my yard. Later this week it is a trip to the imaging center for an overdue mammogram and DEXA, then over to the Xfinity store to see what they can do about getting a smartphone reset and reprogrammed for me.

I mowed the lawn for the first time this year. Not much to mow except for those darn wild onion weeds. I dig them up and end up with more the following year.

Marilyne

Good Morning everyone!   It's almost 9:00 here, and I  just finished eating a HUGE breakfast, which is unusual for me.  Now I feel stuffed and uncomfortable, so will likely not eat anything until early dinnertime.  I can no long eat too much, or I pay the consequences!

MarsGal - Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling 100% either.  Gerd, seems to be a problem for many of us, as we grow older.  I have a container of Tums, beside my bed, in case I wake during the night with that familiar discomfort.   Good luck with your Mammo screening, later this week.  The Dexascan is something I've passed on, over the years. Never had one. I already know that I have osteoporosis, judging from my bone structure, and my age.  I take calcium and vitamin D3, and that's all I would ever take for the problem, so no point in getting the scan.

I haven't heard of the wild onion weed, but I'll bet we have it!  It's probably called something else here in CA.  I do know that our backyard lawn, is mostly just a big weed patch!   We keep it mowed and watered, and the various species of weeds die off, and others pop up to take their place. An endless battle here.

Patricia - Your latest snowstorm, must have been pretty depressing for you and others who are looking forward to Spring. Let's hope that this was Winter's Last Hurrah!  I see that you mentioned schools being closed as a result?  Schools haven't opened here at all yet, because of Covid. Many rural sections of California have opened, but those schools in the congested big cities and suburbs are still closed.  It's a very controversial situation here.  Parents want schools opened, but Teachers Unions, hold the power in California.

Jenny - Good that you got to spend Easter, with Dave and Michele and the kids.  I feel so bad for Michele, that she is suffering now with the back surgery.  As we've all said for so long, she is one brave and determined woman, and deserves a miracle!

I'm glad your surgery has been scheduled for Friday, and will soon be finished.  Will you be staying in the hospital at all, or coming home right afterwards?   I hope you will be staying at least a couple of nights?  I know that isn't the usual anymore like it used to be, but I think it would help to be looked after by professional nurses, for at least the first 24 hours?  Especially for us older folks.

Jackie - Keep us posted as to the results of your MRI. I will be holding the hope that your MS, has progressed very little since your last scan. I don't know if you have been able to get out of your apartment and walk a little, but I hope so. (with a walker/rollator of course)   Getting outside in the fresh air, for even a few minutes, can raise the spirits. I'm very grateful for my back yard.  I can go outside whenever I feel like taking a break, and I always feel better when I come back in.

Denver

Good morning.  Everyday I feel so much better....sure wish I could just continue to heal rather than having to have the surgery and start the process over again😩😘

I have been waiting for the hospital to call since Friday about my pre op tests.  Getting concerned so Bob contacted my surgeons scheduler this morning, telling her we had not heard from hospital yet, she emailed the scheduler Beth AGAIN and gave us the number to call Beth if we did not hear from her within the hour.  Bob then called Beth.....Beth is not there, so they looked me up.....no info on me at all saying I need pre op.  Back to surgeons scheduler and then she contacted hospital and found out that Beth is out and now they will be calling me as two schedulers are ON it🤪

PATRICIA, Iam sorry your outing did not happen do to another big snow😩😩

MARILYN, I understand your thoughts regarding having a dexa scan.

Have a great day ...

Tomereader1

A DEXA scan is absolutely the MOST pain-free test they can run on you!  Don't be scared to get one.  They will show you how much your osteo has progressed since last time, even if you don't intend to take additional medications, and you will know which areas would be foremost in destruction should you fall.

Most people are scared of MRI.  And I have never seen the reasons (real reasons) for that.  (And I think men are the worst).  It is painless.  There are lights on in the room, dim, you are not completely in the dark.  The noise NOWADAYS is so much quieter than when they first started doing this test.  And if they give you earplugs, or headphones, just relax.  You will hear intermittent Bumps and clicks, but your radio alarm, or driving down a street with speed bumps can project the same type of noises.

I wish bravery for you who are frightened of this test.  I have had multiple tests where they make you drink awful concoctions, after not having anything to eat for hours, or ones where you have to drink what seems like gallons of water!  I'll take an MRI anytime over those things, not to mention Colonoscopy. LOL

patricia19

I agree, having had more than one colonoscopy.

Tomereader1

Me too, Patricia!  No Fun!

Marilyne

#19669
Tome and Patricia  -  I think I'm the Queen of Colonoscopies! :king:   I had surgery when I was only 52, for removal of a malignant polyp.   All was well, but I then I had to have a colonoscopy every year for five years . . . then every five years, until I turned 80.  So I think that amounts to about sixteen of them - counting the original?   Believe me, I got so I could chug down that big gallon of liquid, in short order, with no complaints.  :drink:  Now I'm sitting here laughing, that we are even having this discussion!  ;D

Tomereader1

As a good friend of mine once labelled it, this has turned into an "organ recital"
yes?

Vanilla-Jackie

#19671
Oh that dreaded word " oscopies " i have had them both up me and down me...Nasal Endoscopy - Hysteroscopy (  polyps removed ) - Upper Endoscoscopy ( down the throat ) Cystoscopy...that camera has been in my most private places....

Marilyne...
...i think you win hands down...
" There is no present like the time "

Denver

oh my goodness.....TOME.....Organ recital 😱 Now that is funny 😄...right now I can use a good laugh!  You are absolutely correct that a Dexa Scan is by far the easiest test there is and it is very helpful in knowing how our best nes are doing.

And to THE QUEEN OF COLONOSCOPIES..... oh my, MARILYN, I am sorry you have earned this honor!  I learned early on in my son's medical career that it is not IF a polyp will become cancerous it is when....getting them removed is the only way to go.  Mind you, now days many younger people are being diagnosed than ever before and they need to be screened well before 50 years of age.  When my Michele was diagnosed she was like 43 and the morning of her colonoscopy they were still telling her that she did not have to go through this procedure as it was not covered under insurance due to her age....and she said, "absolutely I am going through with it after having done the prep the night before!  The procedure saved her life, having been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer!

JACKIE, I agree... "oscopies" are indeed a dreaded word rather they are up or down‼️

I did get my pre op appointment done this morning and all is well and I have been almost cleared for surgery on Friday.  They want one last test to make the anesthesiologist happy..... a echocardiogram.  Of course they could not get me in for one today, so we have to drive to downtown Denver to another hospital to get it done  tomorrow afternoon.  Ugh.....getting showered and dressed and down the steps to the car is awful.....but we have to do what we have to do....so off we go!

Getting lots of calls....better post before I loose this.

Jenny  - Good that you got all the preliminaries done yesterday, and that you're all set for your surgery -except for the echocardiogram.  It's not painful, and doesn't take too long.   However, you do have to lie down on your left side for the procedure, so I hope your shoulder injury is on the right side??    We'll be thinking about you tomorrow, and praying for the surgery to be 100% successful!

Jackie  - Thanks for posting the video of the Delta Rhythm Boys, singing "Dry Bones".  I remember when the song was very popular, and everyone was singing it!

Jean - Hope we hear from you today, that you and Larry are both okay?  Also let us know how your son is doing, and how your grandson's wife and children are doing?

Good Afternoon from the sunny
and warmer,  rocky coast of Maine...
Nice weather here.  Not too hot, not
too cold.. just the way I like it.

Regarding  "oscopies", MRI's and
IMHO the dreaded stress tests..

I have had a lot and survived most...
But I am severely claustrophobic  and
MRI'S  are my own personnel nightmare...

If I have to have one now they give me
2 doses of liquid lorazepam...  with a
little something over my eyes,  and I
can get through it...

the first time they gave me a claustrophobic
test dealing with my heart,
( called a  Nuclear Medicine Cardiac Stress Test )
I ended up yelling for help and some one else in
the room (another patient) went and found
a nurse for me.  (no professional in the room) ...

I ended up leaving with needles still in
my arm that I removed when I got out
into the car...
My cardiologist called me at home
apologizing and ended up giving me
a stress test  (usually all the testing
is not done personally by my Cardiologist
but she continued with mine because
she was so upset abut what happened to me.

When I go in for any tests today they
take very good care of me...
so I no longer fear having tests
done by the hospitals that know me.

Thanks heavens for lorazepam ...

Jenny good luck ....   and to all
others being tested now,  best wishes
for a positive outcome...  (with positive
being good)

All is well here...
Sandy

Good morning from a COLD Interior. I've gotten everything done, but one and groceries will have to wait.

"A historic cold blast settling into Alaska this week will send temperatures plummeting far below zero, which could topple century-old low-temperature records in one city and even a longstanding state record.

The severe cold comes at a time when Alaska normally starts to thaw out from brutal winter weather."

"April is typically the time of year when Alaska is steadily climbing out of the Arctic's icy grip, with average high temperatures rising 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit from the beginning of the month to the end in places such as Utqiaġvik (formally Barrow), Fairbanks and Anchorage," AccuWeather Meteorologist Renee Duff said.

High temperatures in Anchorage, Alaska, usually start April in the upper 30s, before reaching the lower 50s by the end of the month. Fairbanks rivals this spring warmup average by rising from the mid-30s in early April and ending up near the mid-50s by the last day of the month.

"But that has been far from the truth so far this month, with temperatures running 17 degrees below normal month-to-date in Fairbanks," Duff said.

It's been a topsy-turvy start to April in Fairbanks. The city began the month with a high of 11, and low temperatures that didn't reach above zero degrees. Around Easter, the city's temperatures nearly recovered, just a couple degrees below the average high, but this was short-lived as temperatures tanked again to fall below -20, despite average lows being around 15 degrees.

This Arctic air has no intention of leaving Alaska quickly, as conditions are anticipated to be even colder as this week concludes. While Fairbanks usually sits at a high of 40 in early April, forecasters are predicting that temperatures in the city won't rise above 7 degrees on Friday, a whopping 33 degrees below normal.

"The next three days will bring historic-level cold for this time of year to parts of mainland Alaska. The state record low for April of -50F (-45.6C) might be broken," Rick Thoman, a climate specialist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks said on Twitter.

"A cold snap this extreme in April hasn't been experienced in the Fairbanks area since 1911, when three consecutive record lows were set from April 9-11," Duff said. Two of these record lows are likely to be challenged during the latest cold wave, including Thursday night's record of minus 16 F and Friday night's record of minus 32 F.

AccuWeather is forecasting Fairbanks to surpass Thursday night's record by 3 degrees with a low temperature of -19 F."

Saying goodnight to ALL💐

My echo cardiogram turned out great.....so all is well and my surgery is scheduled for 1:15 PM.  I hoped it would be in the morning, but thankful it is not any later than it is. We have to arrive at 11 AM.  Once they get me ready Bob can come back to see me then he has to leave the hospital.  They will keep in touch with him by texting.  He can come back after they have moved me to my room.

Michele is not doing well.....her pre op blood work results came back yesterday and was not good, so they have her in ICU and are monitoring her to see what can be done.  Again, that poor girl and Dave can not catch a break!  Thank you for good thoughts and prayers🥰

Thank you all again for your support.  I just want to get it done and start the healing process.

Take care and stay safe.
