Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I had the hearing test then was told the office we were sent to wasn't covered by our health insurance .  The referral came from our dr.  We were referred to another office & the test results will be sent to them .  Still waiting for an appt.

jane

Alpiner...how frustrating.  You're fortunate your insurance covers hearing aids.  Ours never did for Ray.

Happy Birthday, Marilyn...or belated, if I'm late.

Sharon...I'm looking forward to temps in the 30s!  It's 12 right now, and I'm putting off my errands until tomorrow when we're to see mid 30s,   :coolsmiley:

Nothing new here...being a lazy slug... just doing laundry, so I can at least be a clean lazy slug. :2funny:

Stay warm and safe,

Jane

Good morning....almost gone...our weather is much better this week...high 60 to 70.....had sad news this morning ..dear friend of mine passed away ...just visited with her at church yesterday....today she went to be with Jesus....we never know when our time is up.....Jane hope your weather warms up soon..Sharon hope your shoulder is better...ALPINER good luck with your hearing aides.......hi MaryP..and Patrica and others reading...have a great day

maryz

Happy Birthday, Marilyn (again). Glad you had such a good time with your family and friends.

Darlene, sorry about the loss of your friend. That's always tough.

alpiner, how frustrating for you with the insurance thing. I hope it works out for the hearing aids.

jane, Love comparing your and Patricia's temps with Donna's and alpiner's, and with Sharon's and mine. At least we're having sunshine for a few days.

Margaret has finally tested negative, and is able to get out and about. She was really struggling with "cabin fever" for the last few days. She had a long list of errands to run. But it was really good to see her.

Happy Monday, Buddies!

Mary...Hurrah for Margaret!

Darlene...at least your friend didn't suffer.  Seeing loved ones lingering in pain tears me apart.

Patricia...everything ok in Fairbanks?

Sharon..hope all is well in N.C., too.

Jane

My insurance does not pay for hearing aids.  I have been of the belief that most do not.  Just as with the eyes, I can get TESTED to see if I have hearing loss (loss of sight), but then no money to buy the aids. (glasses)  Well, pretty much the same thing for the teeth.  My insurance will pay a small amount for an exam to tell me what the condition of my teeth is, and then pay nothing most of the time and a little for some procedures at other times.  It makes things difficult, but in the long run I have chosen to keep my teeth taken care of and also my eyes, but not worry about being deaf.  If you and I are seated facing one another, I can carry on a fine conversation with you; hearing every word.

Chip bought me a fine set of Sennheiser earplugs that are in some way working with my TV and enable me to hear that loud and clear.  Please don't ask me to explain further, as I am an ignoramus; but I am sure a Search will turn up information.

MaryPage

Darlene, my sincere condolences.  Such news is never easy to deal with.  I am sorry for the hurting heart you carry at present.

patricia19

MaryPage, I think I must have the same insurance, paying for exams but not repairs. :(

Nothing new here, Jane. Lots of snow with no accumulation and warmer temperatures. Everything is still locked up as I believe we now lead the nation in Covid cases. Last week, we lost two babies to Omicron. Yet you still see maskless people. I spend most of my time in the Card Shoppe Discussions posting PSP graphics with Bubble.

Finally I think we have made some progress getting my hearing aides !  First we were sent to the wrong place , had the hearing test . It seems our insurance isn't taken there !  They said they would fax the test results to the correct place but didn't .  My husband has been handling all this for me because I got upset .  He called the correct place this morning & got their fax number to give to the  first place  we went to .. Now still waiting !  He knew how frustrated I was  & gave me a long hug !
I had an appt. with the dermatologist this morning & found I have a cyst on my forehead & a precancerous spot on my right cheek .  Now waiting for authorization from our insurance to have one or both froze off .
Next week need to have lab work done for the oncologist .
So much going on !
But Valentines Day my husband is taking me to a small casino for the day !  I will be able to relax & have some fun !

jane

Good to see MaryPage, Patricia, Alpiner.

It actually warmed up today...in mid 30s, very little rain and a most pleasant change.

I got out to pay my heating repair bill and stopped by the card shop for a couple cards, to one grocery story , and my drug store.  I came home, unloaded all those packages, and had a quick lunch of the hot ribs I'd picked up at the grocery...something new for them...and then off to the Farm Fleet for bird seed for the greedy little rascals, and to WalMart.  Then home. Joints aren't happy, so I wonder if weather about to change again.

maryz

alpiner, hope you'll get things straightened out soon.  Wonderful to have such an understanding husband!

jane, of course the weather is going to change. And you're better to forecast than any of the TV folks.

I got my overdue haircut and mani/pedi today. I love the way this new gal cuts my hair. She's gradually changed some things in the way it's been cut and is managing to hide the cow-licks in the back. She's pleased with the results, too.  ;D  I had the folks here take me and pick me up for the first time. That worked out well. I'm not sure how much the charge is, but it's worth it once in a while. (And I know there's no charge for trips to doctor appointments.)

Happy almost-Wednesday, Buddies!

What a great service to have, Mary!  And now you're all beautiful, too.

I talked to my sister tonight...she had high liver enzymes in her recent blood test...[and no, no chemo...that raised a lot of those of us who did that].  Anyway, it turns out it's apparently her gall bladder that is full of stones and sludge.  Her doctor couldn't believe she wasn't complaining of pain.  The rest of her xrays, abdominal stuff was normal.  So, her doc is making arrangements for her to have that thing out before it turns more nasty.

jane

maryz

jane, when my gallbladder was full of stones, when the pain happened, it was so intense, I couldn't get to the ER fast enough.  When that was diagnosed, I had them schedule me for surgery ASAP. Done laparoscopically, with no problems.  Hope all goes as well with your sister.

jane

Mary...her doctor told her that same thing...get it out now.
She now thinks she had some issues she never associated with gall bladder, but thank heavens the liver and other organs there scan showed all is ok with them...and it's the gall bladder.  She's had kidney stones so sure doesn't want more pain like that.

I got out to WalMart for my ultrapasturized milk...due date APRIL 4...so I'm all set for my lattes in these coming cold days again.  Enroute I dropped off some very large cardboard boxes  in the cardboard dumpsters the recycle people have out on my way to WalMart. The boxes are too big for my recycle bin, even collapsed.

This morning I caught up with my personal bookkeeping/checkbook, etc.

Time now to relax and get the heating pad going...rain/snow/whatever coming...yep, you all know how it is to know it before the weatherguessers on TV tell you it's coming.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning, nothing new here except our new covid cases are purposedly not being reported as the state government feels it is no longer needed to keep weekly reports. This is after various CDC notices saying we're higher than we were in the 2020 and 2021 new case reports for this time and that last week we lost two infants to Omicron. I now check in weekly with the CDC for an accurate picture, and this town and my building remain in total lockdown.

Weatherwise, generally in February, our most frigid month temperatures and light snow, with no accumulation, remain the same throughout. March, which always has meant a return to humidity, warmer temperatures, and a snow dump, is expected to be no different than February.

So this is a more involved way of saying nothing new here.  ::)

MaryPage

I have a hard time figuring out why any government would decide to stop recording or stop announcing figures for so serious a world-wide spread of virus.  I know that after Smallpox was done away with by mandatory vaccinations and Polio has pretty much been done away with, along with other dread killer viruses, our Public Health agencies have been keeping very careful figures all of these years.  The Human Race is not using their brains if they make a decision that they are so sick & tired of Covid that they want to stop keeping tabs on it.  The whole point of the existence of these viruses is to rid this planet of our species.  Think about that.  To kill off OUR species!  What we need to be is VIGILANT, and not turn our backs on this ever-evolving enemy to our very existence!

MaryPage

Hey, Alpiner!

He's a keeper!

alpiner1

MaryPage  he has made big changes  over the years  for the better .  Tonight after we came home from Wednesday evening Bible class  he emptied the dishwasher for me  & put the dishes away !!   We have been married 64 years .  Life would have been so much easier if he had been like he is now when we were newly married .

jane

  Friday greetings, Buddies.

Nothing exciting or even interesting here...to get cold again to high of 12 tomorrow.

I don't understand the "it's over" view of our Governor either. ( Our state legislature is more concerned with banning "obscene" books from schools..."obscene" means views they don't like and American and world history they don't want to acknowledge. )

Stay safe!

Jane

patricia19

It's sad and those types of views seem to be reoccurring cycles and authoritarian.

Some things that are true, so don't revise the History while I'M alive!:

When I was born (1929) and before that, boys were the preferred infants to give birth to.  I could tell you some heart-breaking stories of the treatment given children who started their lives with the unforgivable mistake of daring to be female.  Seriously.  I am not building up a story here, nor do I have a crusade going.  I am almost 93, and have all I can do just navigating from one day to the next.  I do feel dismay, however, when I see things that were real and were part of the fabric of our lives: daily, yearly and seemingly forever, blotted over or outright changed because this person or that group is/are offended by the relating.

First, I should remind y'all that we did not give "Reveal The Sex" parties, or whatever it is they call them.  We had absolutely NO way of knowing what we carried in our wombs.  People tried, though.  I had one experience of a woman having me lie down on the sofa at a baby shower, take my wedding ring and put a string through it, and hold the ring by the string over my womb.  If the ring moved in a straight up & down line, she could predict it was one sex; but should it make circles, it was the other.  Seriously; I am not making this up.  And no, I don't remember which was which.

Yes, boys were wished for and considered superior in every detail.  Sometimes I wonder if a large portion of my sex ever read any History at all, as they seem not to know things like: upon marriage the new husband immediately owned AND CONTROLLED all of his wife's property.  Women could not vote until not long before I was born: I think it was 1920.  Males of color got the vote LONG before women of, or not of, color did.  This, to me, since it is true of very little, if anything, else, illuminates a very strong point in my estimation.  Have you ever thought about that?  Women, ALL women, were at the bottom of the entire list of those considered not fit to vote.

When I was a child, a woman was pretty much the equivalent of a piece of household furniture, except that she had working parts.  Males acquired wives so as to have someone to take care of their homes for them, and to give birth to the sons who would be their heirs.

Were there exceptions to what I describe?  Well, OF COURSE there were!  Just as one point of view does not fit all today, this one did not fit all back then.  But it sure as all get out fit Most!

Perfectly good people with perfectly great families could not help themselves in showing preference in every area of daily life to the male of our species.  In fact, they seemed to believe females were a lower class of being.

Time has gone by.  Women have campaigned publicly to be seen as of equal value.  Women have pushed and shoved their way into decent jobs; many because the men in their lives did not shoulder their obligation to support their own children, leaving the women to find a way to do this.  When women were/are found to be paid much less for the same work, the excuse given has time after time been "but the men have to support families."  Say what?

My observation, when mind-scanning my entire long life, has been to credit World War II as turning a corner for women: BIG TIME.  Men went to war, and women had to fill their jobs in factories, retail, offices and professions all throughout this nation.  Of course, they unceremoniously lost these jobs when the men started returning from war; and truth is, THIS is when the protesting began

Are you aware that the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution of These United States never passed?  It came hot breath on your neck close; but never got there.  Were you taught that it says dreadful things?  You were lied to.  This is what it says, and it is ALL it says:

Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

Nope, that was considered too subversive.  So despite your believing women are guaranteed equality under our Constitution, we are not.

So multimillions of our males grew up TAKING THEIR SUPERIORITY for granted.  Seriously.  Some eventually heard the sound of the seas of women protesting the chains holding them to a lower concept of who they are.  Some men were converted by their own observations over the years of their marriages.

If you were not lucky enough to win the Lottery in Love and marry one who valued you from the git go, he may have evolved in his thinking over the years you have been together.  Lucky you!

MaryPage, my mother-in-law in 1972 used that exact method to predict and convince the entire family of my "son's" birth. What a surprise when "she" arrived. I had never said a word of my belief it would be a girl as I was only 22 and what did I know?

Adding to your info on the equal rights amendment, recently three male congressmen have jointly introduced a resolution to kill the provision for good.

BRAVO and ENCORE, MaryPage!!

A lady I knew, back in the 60's, married with daughters, and her husband told her he had wanted "a son, in his own image".   Howzat?

MaryPage, you should have been (and are now) a writer.  Such command of the English language!  Succinct and to the point.

Cottoncandy

Good morning cyber friends....daughter is coming Monday for a few days...yahoo...always good when kids and grand and great come...we are having spring one day then old man winter again....not much exciting going on with me..here's wishing everyone a safe distance from the virus and have a great weekend

Marilyn

Hello every Buddy. I have not disappeared I am still alive. Just been busy doing other thhings. I am going to lunch today with my friend Jeanie.

jane

Mary...I agree 100%...Bravo, MaryPage!!

Patricia...thank you for that link.  ALL of Iowa is RED = HIGH transmission.  Huh...guess our Governor can't comprehend that.

Tomereader...I'm not sure where some men were in high school biology classes when they talked about gender, etc.  They must have been missing those days!

Darlene...enjoy your daughter's and grands visit.

Marilyn...enjoy your luncheon out.

It's gotten to 10 degrees here, but I'm inside doing laundry and little else.  I can't find anything of interest on tv...the Olympics is all reruns of things I've seen.

I guess I need to get bundled up and go out and fill my birdfeeders.  The little rascals are eating up a storm...more cold and wind coming for tomorrow.

Take care and stay safe,

jane

MaryPage

Thank you Mary and Tomereader and Jane for your sweet and sustaining words.  If the males of our species do not succeed in blowing us all to smithereens, the females of our species will no doubt take over eventually and bring Peace to our world.  Philip Wylie, a renowned writer eons ago, wrote a book in which this was exactly what took place.  I forget the name of that book; I think it may have been The Disappearance.  I'll Goggle it.

MaryPage

Existing now in a world in which I seem to forget anything and everything 2 seconds after it has been said or thought or done, I am hugely gratified to know there is a cutoff for that, and I seem to be able to retain most of the old stuff.  The Disappearance IS the name of that book.
