Jane, I swear that laundry miscreant is pulling that same trick here!

JeanneP

Hi All.
Been a long time since I have been in. I am still having a hard time trying to get it to start me in just the current postings.  Wants to take me way back to 2016.  I am trying to only go back to Jan 2022
I suppose I am going through all the things like the rest of you. WAs doing great for the first year and half but now I am really getting tired of the whole thing. Nothing seems to be getting any better. I have not even been out of town in 2 years.  Think I have put less then 2000 miles on it. Paying all the insurance on it is crazy. But maybe this summer will be some changes.  Just need to watch what worse things going on in other parts of the world and think how lucky we are.
I have lost 9 people within my closest family and friends in last 2 years UK.Canada.US that I usually went to see, Traveling will not be the same,,
All take care,
JeanneP

Forgot to mention. Not found a new hairdresser in over 2 years now I have been chopping on it myself. Will really need a good one to shape it back up.

jane, hope you can get the hands working to knit some things for a little girl. There are some cute patterns to be found, and they don't take much yarn or time.

Good to see other folks able to check in. Change is never easy.

Margaret brought me the mailing from my CPA (a lovely lady who has done our/my taxes since the mid1990s).  It is not a teensy amount of money, but I'm glad I have and have earned enough money to pay it. I pay her a small amount for the service, and it's worth every penny to me.

Hope everybody has a good upcoming week!

JeanneP, so glad to see you posting again.

It took some time and some clicking around but at last, I'm here, Jane.

Laundry day here, also. Some one is sneaking clothes in with mine, too!  :coolsmiley:

Hi all, No problem getting in. Didn't know there had been a change.

Do you remember the Monk series? He said he didn't mind change just didn't want to be there when it happened!

Starting to warm up in our desert-85* today. I love it.

Marilyn

I am here, I don't touch my computer on Sunday. Just take the day off,

All is well here, pouring rain soo far today. Going out to a family dinner to celebrate the grandson's
birthday.

jane

So great to see so many friends here today!

Patricia, Jeanne, Tome, Dig, Phyllis, Marilyn, Maryz.

I went out for a quick walk and it's cold and windy out there, so the walk was cut short.  I'm definitely a fair weather walker.  Tomorrow and rest of the week to be windy and wet.

Nothing else new here...be so glad to get the mammo over with tomorrow.

Take care, Friends!

USA Facts and the CDC say 95% of the nation is at the lowest for covid cases since July 2021. However, warm weather is coming, and they aren't saying the pandemic is over yet. This is what they are saying,

Good to see Darlene and Patricia's faces here this afternoon.

I survived the "big squeeze, but OH MY did it hurt.  Now to hope I don't get a call to come back for do-overs.

I stopped afterward at a large grocery in Dbq, but they didn't have the ultrapasterized milk...or I couldn't find it, anyway.

Sooo, I came on home, stopped at the Chinese restaurant and had a lunch with enough brought home for supper and stopped at WalMart for my milk, an onion, and a loaf of bread.  Big shopping trip, huh? :2funny:

Rain and wind predicted for rest of the week, but I've got enough to stay in and cozy.

Good morning here at 10:42 and 11 degrees. The snow expected yesterday began overnight, and everything today is freshly white, both sky and ground—however, no expected accumulation. I cleaned out my fridge this morning, and my oven is slated for this afternoon. Its self-cleaning feature is four hours of noise and heat, and you still have to go in afterward and mop up! :(

maryz

jane, is 'ultrapasteurized milk' the "shelf milk"?  I kept that for a while until I found out regular milk can be frozen. After that I bought a gallon of regular milk (we used 2%), decanted it into quart containers, and put them in the freezer. You just have to give it time to thaw, and shake it up. We found it very satisfactory.

Just rain for us this week, Patricia, even though that includes a flurry or two when a front comes through this weekend.

Yesterday was a good day. We got it arranged for me to have a fasting blood draw done here, rather than having to go to the doctor's office. They announced that it's being arranged for those of us who want it to get our second booster shot here.  And in women's basketball, the University of South Carolina (coached by one of Pat Summit's players) beat UConn (Tennessee's old nemesis) for the NCAA title.  Definitely a good day!

Good morning from an Interior that's plus-eight with cloudy skies. Our daily highs are back in the early forties and no snow's expected, so there's that. I'm so ready for warmer temperatures and the heat.

There have been signs where the offices are located in our lobby asking people not to loiter since I moved in 2013. They're talking about opening the main lounge next to those offices for an Easter meal cooked on the premises from some church donating time and food for our Easter celebration. I hope this means they later leave the lounge open for the residents (It's the only one with a kitchen.) and open the other four lounges.

There are some residents I haven't seen in two years with the prohibition against loitering in the halls. Everyone who doesn't have an outside destination remains locked in their apartments. It's simply the way it is. We've lost more to the pandemic, and I know it's been relatively high for our age group in line with other states and places.

This city doesn't only lie on the east and west side of the Tanana Valley, and it also sprawls along the rivers and up the flanks of the foothills and a few ridges, domes, and outcroppings. With the mountains so close, the only ways out of the valley are by car, in the south and the west directions. My point is those living in those ridges and foothills are isolated, not only by adverse winter weather but also by the pandemic. That was the primary reason my circle started our morning chats and texts, and it has truly been necessary.

jane

Mary, no, ultrapasturized milk has a long refrigerator  life...the one I bought yesterday has a useby date of May 15.
It tastes just like other skim milk.  I don't end up throwing out milk because it's soured.  The two vets in our family, one who worked with dairy cows, says ultrapasturized is used in making cheese.

It's a wet, windy day here.  Nurse for doc I saw in Urgent Care on Sat called to say negative on infection or a UTI....so good news.

My sister's heart cath backed up because of a patient with "serious" issues and doc took a lot longer.  I hope to hear soon, she's out of the cath lab.

Tomorrow to be extra nasty and maybe snow.   ???  :o

Had my 6 month checkup with my Doc.  I am still impressed with her after about 20+ years! She sits down, asks how you're doing, and as I launch into my just getting older spiel, and start listing my complaints, she types them into her laptop, and proceeds with "what else---anything else"?

My blood pressure was great, and the problem with my ear (vertigo), she says
"definitely not wax".  She gave me name of ENT to check and see if there's water behind the ear drum.  She did ask if I wanted a prescription to help me sleep.  She knows that I have an aversion to anything "drug-like", so we discussed one, at its lowest milligram, and I am to start by cutting it in half or fourths to see what, if any, contraindications there are.  I told her that even a 10 mg melatonin will give me a next-day "hangover"; i.e. fuzzy headed, feel like I'm walking in fog and quicksand.  On top of that, it doesn't really help with the sleep, maybe an extra 2 hours.  She was very quick to point out that sleeplessness can create other problems, as sleep is when your body does its "natural repair".  I think my 2 hrs naps in the afternoon must be repairing some things!  LOL!

jane

Tomereader...you are so fortunate to have a great doc.  The ones who really listen are few and far between, I've found.
I'm also glad to read someone else gets "hangover fog" or whatever with melatonin.  I know it works for some people...but I'm not one of them.  I also got that weird feeling from 100 mg gabapentin so stopped it, too, in Feb.

My sister came through the heart cath with flying colors...no need for a stent and she's cleared for surgery for her gallbladder.  Now to get that scheduled.

Interesting spring here....snow to be followed by rain to be followed by snow to be followed by rain....see a routine here?   ::)  >:(

Supposed to be out of the 30s next week and into 50s and 60s...I sure hope so.

Nothing going on here.  I didn't hear from radiology so guess mammo is ok.  I see surgeon next Thursday for yearly visit.  We've been meeting like this since 1989! ;)

jane

patricia19

Jane, we're having that same weather minus the rain. While we've slowly inched up in our highs from the thirties to the forties, we keep having more snow but no accumulation. We're to have snow again tonight after today's clear, continuing into tomorrow. It wasn't too long ago that we had colder weather for winter, but the snow was gone, and summer was here at Easter! We're not used to this much snow.

jane

. Interesting thing today...I'd gotten a survey to rate how the mammo appt was, etc.  In comments, I said the wait to hear if man or was clear really upped the anxiety in this breast cancer survivor.  Today I got a call from my cancer surgeon's nurse to tell me the mammo was good and they would see me next week.  Soooo..people do read those survey's, at least at this large clinic...and I can relax and no have a BP surge when the phone rings!

Jane

MaryPage

When I had the mammogram that showed my cancer, the Radiologist came to my cubicle before I left that part of the building and told me to let them take some more pictures and pointed to the spot that worried him.  So the "bad" news came as fresh off the wires as was possible.

That seems like a million years ago now, but is as fresh as yesterday.  No, fresher.

Actually, I can't remember much about yesterday.

Palm Sunday greetings.

MaryPage...you did get your news quickly.  So glad we all survived it!

Darlene...I have the wind, too, but not your warm temps...just 51 here.

It's a busy doc week...rheumatologist on Monday, dentist on Tuesday, and cancer surgeons yearly follow up on Thursday.  Then, Donal and Patricia are coming Friday afternoon for the weekend. They'll help me prepare Easter supper on Sat. Investors also invited Gary and Kathy since they have me for T'giving.

Stay healthy.

Good morning, Jane, it's seven degrees in the Interior, and it snowed yesterday into this morning. The sky is still totally white, so I expect more snow but little accumulation. Everyone is up, texted, cleaned, and fed, but that's as far as I've gotten this morning.

I had to reset my computer last night as I was having programming issues with my PSP, so today, I will be putting programs back on and, hopefully, a smoother performance. Locally, no one plants outside until Memorial Day. The way this year is going, it may be later.

It occurs to me that there is a medical tidbit I ought to share with you that might just turn out to save your life.  At least, if you are a gal.

My youngest (of 5) daughter had a bad heart/BP experience last week, and wound up in a helicopter being taken to hospital.  She was saved by her memory of what jaw pain, followed by nausea, means to women.

Here is some of her last (today) email to her siblings and me.

Last Wednesday I joked with Bob that my white coat hypertension works by proxy as I could feel my heart pound a bit when we were seeing "our" shoulder doctor to plan a rotator cuff repair for Bob. Shortly after the visit I noticed some pain bilaterally in my jaw at the TMJ. The pain passed quickly and I thought nothing of it.

On Thursday morning I juggled a hectic schedule on my surgery morning at work. About 11 am I had everything settled and sat down to send a fun message to a friend. Suddenly the TMJ pain was back, this time with a vengeance. I was nauseated and felt clammy at the same time. The reason I am stating this detail is that ALL WOMEN NEED TO KNOW these could be signs of a heart in distress.  Well, I had gulped a slug of caffeine about an hour before so chalked it up to that. Then I thought, hmmmm, stressful day, maybe this is a panic attack? As my color changed to chalky white my staff got concerned and ran to a convenience story to get aspirin.I chewed a 325mg Bayer and sutured up a dog. Felt a bit better, then felt worse. In my head I kept wondering if I would look ridiculous at the ER if it was a panic attack. Fortunately, my better sense prevailed. My blood pressure was....wait for it..... YIKES. Stroke worthy for sure. My EKG was normal at that time. They put Nitro paste on my chest and pulled blood. My first Troponin level was mildly increased. Second EKG started to look wonky, second Troponin was increased over the first. The ER doc (Dr. Yow!--love that name) stayed jovial and calm with me but when he left the ER cubicle I could hear him on the phone doing his best to find me a bed at a good hospital in Tucson. He calmly explained he wanted me in a cardiac care facility. I said, Oh, so we go by ambulance? NOPE. He said the helicopter will be ready for you in 18 minutes. They bundled me up and off we went. During the half hour flight my EKG stabilized and I was feeling better. Had X-rays and Echo on entry. The following morning the cardiologist explained he thought I had a vessel spasming and went ahead with a Cardiac Catheterization. They found my vessels were clean as a can be in terms of atherosclerosis (YAY) but I had a teeny blood clot in the distal tip of a vessel in the posterior lateral heart wall. It was too small to extract so I was put on IV meds to dissolve it along with meds to help my BP behave. Success!

The hospital was diligent and got a hematology consult. Turns out that the FactorVLeiden is responsible for the DVT/PE type of clotting, but not involved with the type I had. He is doing more testing on me when we followup as clotting disorders can have multiple components. The good news is at this point they all think I need only platelet modifying drugs (Plavix, aspirin) for the next 6 months rather than anticoagulant like Coumadin/Xarelto. We shall see.

SO the funny part is initially they told me I would be discharged Sunday. Bob stayed at hotel across the street til this am, then drove home...annnnd just as he hit the driveway (2hour drive) I called and said "I can come home!" The stress of the whole thing had exhausted him and I could hear it in his voice. My friend Emily was sitting with me in the hospital room and volunteered to drive me part way home. Then another friend met us and drove the second leg of the trip. Bob only had to drive 30 minutes to retrieve me from their house. Now...what was funny was .... I had no clothes or shoes at the hospital. Best part of being in your Sixties? Not caring if you travel like this, as long as you are headed OUT of the hospital to go HOME!!!!

So remember that.  Jaw pain means go to the ER.  Do not pass GO,  JUST give it a hustle!

MaryPage

So remember that: Jaw pain means go to the Emergency Room.  By helicopter, if possible.

MaryPage

Dag nabbit!  Why can't I get the SIZE to take?

maryz

Good information to have, MaryPage! And glad that your daughter is okay.

We're on the Tennessee spring weather roller coaster this week. We had frost and snow showers Friday night, and it's predicted to be 75! this afternoon - around 80 later in the week. It's getting to be summer WAY too early for me.

jane, you've got a busy week coming up.  I've got an INR finger-stick, early voting in county primaries on Wednesday (provided here at Morning Pointe), and Alden's 2nd birthday party on Saturday. I won't be going to the b-day party - he's the greatgrandson who lives just north of Atlanta. It's amazing that my two little guys are almost 2!

Happy Easter week to Patricia, Marilyn, Sharon, Darlene, alpiner, and anyone else looking in.

Mary Page, I live in Tucson. What hospital was your daughter in? I hope she had a good experience.

MaryPage

I don't remember the name of the hospital, Diglady.  I feel certain Pam included it in one of her emails.  I will try to find it.

Pam is a veterinarian.  I suspect you guessed that from her email.  She works in Sierra Vista, I gather the ranch is in or nearest to Bisbee, albeit their post office box is in Hereford.  The ranch is Spanish-style, and she has 3 dogs, 5 cats, 5 horses, a head of cattle, and I think that's about it.  She does her serious shopping in Tucson.  Anyway, all is well at the moment.  Just tuck away that tidbit about jaw pain.  I mean, Who Knew!?!
