Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

MaryPage...good advice!

Maryz...weather whiplash is here, too...beautiful day here..mid 60s..storms tomorrow night.temp drops to low 40s.

Patricia...snow for you again.

My appt with rheumatologist wasn't as good as I'd hoped.  Inflammation is up on the decreased prednisone, so I'm to up that again, and add another drug that'll "boost " the steroid, but will require monthly liver enzyme checks.  Always something!

Diglady, I have not yet found out the name of the hospital in Tucson Pam was in, but there is a clue in her emails where she says it was right across the street from a hotel.  Surely not all of Tucson's hospitals are.  Another clue was when her doctor was calling to see if he could get her into the best, and then later he told her he wanted the one with the special cardiac care unit.

maryz

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jeanne!!!   :hb2:

Mary Page, She was probably at Banner. It used to be University of Arizona hospital but then it was purchased a few years ago by a profit. They do have a good cardio unit.

We're being blown away again today.  And, severe storms to come in overnight.Just one fun thing after another!

I'm tired tonight.  Received my 2nd booster as an autoimmune suppressed person.  Nurse says can get another booster in 4 months!  Do I detect a pattern here?

Then, got a haircut, got an old filling out and replaced, picked up my new drug to boost my prednisone, picked up more birdseed ...may snow on Easter!.. and am home listening to the howling wind.

Take care,

Jane

patricia19

Jane, Las Vegas had 75 MPH winds yesterday, Perhaps that whole area of the US is being blown away or off course?

No expected changes for this weekend and the following week. Funny how we used to have seventy degrees and sunshine by Easter back in 2019 and before.

Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 6:04 AM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks

...WARMER TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE INTERIOR...

The warming trend in temperatures will continue, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 today and again on Wednesday, primarily south of the Yukon River. There will be a gradual cool down on Thursday and Friday, with highs falling into the 30s to near 40.

The warmer temperatures will help to continue the snowmelt process during the day, causing areas of ponding on some roadways and near some buildings in and around Fairbanks.

Good morning. Our highs and lows have each shot up twenty degrees, and whatever melts we have during the day tend to refreeze overnight. There is a lot of road ponding during the days, and meteorologists on the news are warning everyone, especially those in higher elevations, to be careful.

The only thing I have going on today is to sign up for the second booster, this makes 2 shots and 2 boosters; during the last half of the month. They will be coming to the door of those requesting one and request you bring a chair, and they will have a cart and a minder to handle everything in the hallway. This is good news as the second variant since Omicron was recognized recently.

This city itself is only recognized as 33 thousand, yet inside city limits, uncounted;  are portions of two military bases with two others close by. We also have a forested swatch of the wildlife sanctuary within those city limits. There are also those living on the foothills, ridges, and riverways within fifteen to twenty miles, so the area is over one hundred thousand while not included in that census population.

We have the people traveling to and from the villages, to and from the Bering Sea fishing grounds, and for the University on the ridge above our city. That is a lot of people and why we were the highest in the state for Covid for the last two years.

MaryPage

The USA channel showed its 2nd episode of the mini-series on extreme camping last night, with a repeat tonight.  Mud, Sweat & Beards.  It is also on On Demand.

This week's episode is set in the Louisiana Bayous.  I lived there for a while as a teenager.  We were, of course, impervious to danger and we spent a lot of our time on or in the bayous.  I gasp to remember how foolhardy we were, but nothing even a tiny bit bad happened to me, or to anyone I hung out with.  But that was 1945, and this is now.

I watched this one for a few minutes, and then felt it necessary to get some other things done.

I am a bit worn out tonight, because I took advantage of our first really warm temps and a sunny day to go out on the bayside deck and unstack the chairs and wash them and set them up looking towards the bay for the summer.  I also got my myriad blue ceramic pots cleaned up and ready to receive new geraniums on or about the first of May.

My children, or at least those hereabouts, which is six of the eight, will come for the day on Saturday, the 23rd.  We will celebrate Christopher's April 1st retirement, have a gala lunch, and watch some slide shows of Rob's latest adventure tours.  His last was 2 weeks in Iceland, and that is his 2nd visit there.  Rob is also my mountain climber.

We have tons of fun.  For one thing, we are together; and we like that.  For another, we enjoy taunting Rob and his most excellent performances, which he has spent A LOT of time preparing for us, by asking him difficult questions that are as impertinent as possible..  Well, we all have to get our jollies SOME WAY!

Good morning Buddies...just checking in...been busy with yearly check ups.,etc,so far results are OK..Jane I've had to take prednisone before..didn't like how it made me feel..Happy late BD Jeanne..Hi to all looking in...time to get rid of the dust bunnies

patricia19

The construction guys' quality control or assessment came yesterday to observe their company's work. They fixed the bedroom blinds and the vertical blinds at the balcony needed to be rehung, and the on-top control box needed to be taken down and reput up.

Then later, the body cranes were back, and they were redoing the outside bedroom window fastenings. It took all of yesterday to finish the top floor and most of mine. There are three and a quarter floors to go.

If this is their company's usual practice, the state went with the lowest bid. But what do I know, perhaps all construction companies are this way?

My fourth shot or second booster is scheduled for the afternoon of the 24th. They come and do it in-house, which I like. I've read that there have been two mutations since Omicron, and cases are rising again in Europe.

Marilyn

I get my 2nd booster at noon today

patricia19

That's good, Marilyn; I read yesterday that cases are rising again in Europe, and it was posted in today's Soda Shop that they've more in the US's east coast as well.

SharonE

Hi Gals, I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted. Had a lot of reading to do to catch up.

I went to FL for 3 days last week to visit my sister-in-law and nieces and nephew. I was so glad I did, as Marilyn is really failing. She can't follow a conversation because of her hearing. One really has to almost shout to make her understand. Her memory is about 5 mins long, it seems. But she is insisting the girls take her out to CO for her Son's wedding May 14. Then he has arranged for her to stay in a studio apt of a Sr. Center for a month near his house where he can look after her. By the end of the month, the weather in Gunnison where their summmer home is should be okay and the older daughter will come back out to get her and take her there and stay with her. None of us thinks she should go, but she's determined. It's very hard on the girls looking after her and Debbie is talking about an assisted living for her in the fall, but I'm sure she will pitch a fit.  Anyway, I had a nice visit with all of them. And good flights too.

The newsletter finally got printed and I've had a lot of good comments on it.

Tomorrow, I'm taking the dog to be groomed back where we used to live because they were booked up here. A friend is going with me and we will shop while she's being groomed.

I played bridge Tues and won for out table. Had great hands and never went down!

Mary Page, I knew about those symptoms for a heart attack. Glad your daughter did too and that she's all right now.

Patricia and Jane, your weather has been awful. Ours has been a roller coaster of temps too, but mostly in the 60's and 70's. Reached 80 a couple days this week but we are trending down for next week.Flowers and trees are gorgeous. We've had a lot of rain.

Jeanne, glad to see you posting again. Sorry you have lost so many family and friends this 2 yrs. We've lost some church friends, but that's all.

Jane, sorry to hear they have to up the prednisone again. Have a good Easter visit with Patricia and hubby.

Hi Marilyn, Darlene and Mary and everyone else. Hope all stay well and have a good Easter. Our pastor is ill and may not be able to preach Sunday. He wasn't able to last week. But is he isn't I'll watch services streamed from our former church.

John is leaving for a bridge tournament in Gatlinburg right after church service and will be gone a week. So it will be a quiet time for me. I'll have to get transport to the clubhouse for meals and activities. They haven't offered the 2nd booster here yet. I hope they do soon.  Stay well all.  Sharon

MaryPage

I've had my 4th shot, as well.

I was astonished and mystified at the news the other night.  It was the local news, and a reporter was interviewing folks walking down the sidewalks.  One of them, very het up, said she wished they would just make up their minds and stop changing the rules about wearing or not wearing masks!

And on my life, I cannot figure out why she does not realize it is the VIRUS that is changing the rules.  This is a brand new virus, and the very worst threat to mankind ever.  Our experts are learning as fast as  they can, but this virus is changing its looks and its habits as fast as you can say "Covid!"  So every time a new variant comes rushing in to try to kill off our species, our Public Health experts HAVE to tell us to return to wearing masks.  Masks save lives.  These are not arbitrary or just for fun rules;  they are keeping most of us alive.  It just stuns me to realize how inattentive to the facts that mean real life & death to us some people can be!  Me, I choose to follow the advice those who have dedicated their lives and their reputations to protecting us feel is in the Publics best path to take insofar as the information on hand suggests at any given moment.  It is not life-affirming to believe we can throw temper tantrums and insist upon being our own doctors.  I shudder!

jane

It's a cold and occasional snowy morning here.  Donal and Patricia got a late start from n. Wisconsin because of "white out" conditions.  She said the roads were getting better as they got further south.

I'm straightening up a bit around here, doing some laundry, and around noontime, I'll head down to the store for rotisseries chicken and ribs for lunch here.

Have a Blessed Easter,

jane

patricia19

Good morning, we're a bit cooler here at 25 this AM, and instead of the promised snow, it rained for most of yesterday. So all the city road crews went up and down the streets, clearing the roads down to the pavement.

They asked that everyone in the foothills stay put if possible until they can clean that melt too.

MaryPage, it always amazes me that people use that catch phase of personal rights when they really mean, do it their way. They've been conditioned to believe that anything that goes against that sphere of personal rights is "fake news."

Cottoncandy

Have a blessed Easter everyone

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL THE BUDDIES.

Nephew and wife arrived yesterday and we're all ready for Easter dinner...Gary and Kathy are coming up at 5:30.

It's a cold, but clear and beautiful day.

Don and Patricia fixed my screen door on the screened porch...the screening had  pulled loose and they knew how to fix that...and did.  So, it's ready for warmer weather.

Pollen is flying and making for a lot of sneezing.

Have a Blessed Easter!

Nothing exciting going on around here.

jane, glad you're having a good visit with your family. Today is first great-grandson's #2 birthday. They had a party yesterday, but I opted not to go (just this side of Atlanta). I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.

Tennessee is having some local elections and primaries for county offices. Early voting is going on now (Election Day is 3 May). Local election boards send teams out to allow seniors in  living facilities to vote, and they came to our place last week. It's a great service!

We're due to get the second booster, but it probably won't be until the latter half of May.

Happy Holiday weekend to all the Buddies!/b]
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Marilyn

Jane I have found that the Comic Sans font and the bold  blue, purple and dark green is the easiest for me to read. All other font seems to blend together and the bold black looks grey to  me.

I cant even see ti send texts I have to use the  speech to text and usually the phone types  something I didn't say. It is hard e enough to type this message.

MaryPage

Do you have to use a phone?  I do not use a cell or mobile phone.  I find them too difficult for a myriad reasons.  I use a regular personal computer, and occasionally an iPad.  I do not text or use any Social Media except Seniors & Friends.  If I had not gone to SeniorNet Bashes, I probably wouldn't even be in S & F.

maryz

Marilyn - hope this is easier for you to read. The stuff I completely skip is light-colored type on a dark or print background.  Sorry you're having such trouble.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

MaryPage

Me, too, Mary!  I absolutely go crazy over the new, well, past 10 years or so, of the artistic layouts they are using with squares of yellow, for crying out loud, and pink and light blue with WHITE LETTERING on them!  What's an old woman with weak eyes to do!!!  It is so hard, but I just have to give up and skip those.

Marilyn

MaryPage I totally can not see those type of screens, the light blue with white type.  I get so frustrated trying to pay my bills online.  I use a regular PC and also a tablet occasional. The easiest for me to read is white type on a black screen.

The weather here has been so crazy rain, wind sun,.

jane

Afternoon, Buddies!  It's also a cold, very windy day here and rain to appear soon.  I went for a massage this morning at the hospital and Blair worked on my back and neck and shoulders again.  They are so sore, but she can't help that.

I didn't know what I wanted for lunch so I left the massage and went to the Chinese restaurant and got my favs and enough for supper.

Nothing else new here.  I see the politicians seem to think the pandemic is over.  I'm not convinced for that...and wore my N95 to the hospital as they require masks.  I was given 3 N95s at WalMart yesterday when I went in.  They had them on the stand where they have the other ones.  Interesting.

This afternoon I'm back in front of my fire and reading on my Kindle.

Stay healthy, Buddies!

jane

patricia19

Jane, as case counts are rising again all over Europe, particularly in France, as well as news that they have identified three different new variations of Omicron, I wouldn't put that mask away, so soon either!

I went to Walgreens yesterday to get my second booster shot and I was surprised to see almost no one wearing a mask and none of the employees were..  Even the person who gave the shot wasn't wearing one.  I had mine on but was uncomfortable being so close to her.

Hubby & I went to Las Vegas for a week . Came home a week ago .  Now my right heel is hurting  , I have had this before , hope it clears up soon .  The drive to Las Vegas usually takes about 6 hours but traffic was congested . We left home in the early morning & got there about 7:00 p.m.   We stayed at our timeshare ,  hubby reserved a first floor unit but we were told none was available .  There is no elevator . So many bad things happened during our stay I wish we could have a do over . The unit is like a small apt. The dishwasher door would fall & I got hit once  & it didn't dry the dishes , also the micro wave didn't work .
