Hi to all. I have been AWOL for a while! We flew to Indianapolis Fri AM and home Sun PM for a wonderful family reunion. There were 16 of us there. Finally got to meet and hold my great granddaughter who will be a yr old 7/3! Also got to watch our 10 yr old great grandson pitch in a winning championship game (Little League). He has grown so much since I saw him and is much more mature. It was so good to see everyone and visit and catch up. My grandson & dil who have the baby just bought a new house in Evansville, IN. It looks beautiful. She passed her boards and is now a licensed NP. Lori and Doug have bought a condo in Chicago and will be moving in a couple months. His girls are in an apt in Chicago. One just graduated from HS and the other will be a Jr in College. So with them out of the house, they were ready to sell the family house and move on. Everyone is doing well, so it was a great gathering. Missed Joc, of course, and her boys, but it's more important for her to have a healthy pregnancy than to come.

It's in the high 90's to 100 here with an even higher heat index duee to the humidity. It seems we all have it. Even Patricia has warmed up! So glad things are opening up and getting back to normal for you.

We've had workmen here while we were gone & again yesterday replacing a bathroom floor that was damaged by a water leak a year ago! Still not totally complete. Someday, I guess.

Went to a residents' meeting yesterday and heard about all the renovations Corporate is going to do to our clubhouse starting in July. It'll take them until Dec. to get it all done, but should be nice.

Jane, glad you got the new dehumidifier. Sure need it now.
Marilyn, glad you can get out some.
Mary, parts for everything are in short supply, I guess. Hope they get the AC fixed soon.
Hi to Mary Page, Alpiner, Darlene and whoever I've missed.

I'm going over to ride the stationary bike at the clubhouse since it's too hot to walk.

Have a good day/evening. Sharon

jane

Patricia...so you're into early  summer...when does the sun set now?

Sharon...sounds like a great get away to your family in Indiana!

I got out for a quick run for a couple errands and now back inside.

Nothing exciting here...covid numbers high at the assisted living and nursing home here in town.

Ray's family in Montana had flooding from the Yellowstone River that runs through the "home" ranch...

Stay cool and safe,

jane

maryz

The flooding in Yellowstone sounds horrible. The weather has just gone crazy.  We're predicted to have a "cold front" come through this weekend - highs in the 80s. But then, it's predicted to bounce back to three days of 100+ - most unusual for us.

I don't know if you've heard of the outdoor music festival, "Bonnaroo". It's held in this county - brings in a lot of money and people.  Folks should be dropping like flies with heat exhaustion, etc.

I went to the dentist yesterday for my 6-month cleaning. X-rays showed I have a small cavity beneath one of my old gold fillings. Yuck! So it's back in two weeks to have that tended to.

Stay cool and safe, Buddies!

Mary...the idea of going to any kind of music festival...indoors or out...sends shivers up my spine.  NOT my thing.
It's always way too loud for me...and the "current" stuff I can't understand ...
which I understand means I'm too old to be there. ;D

Good morning from another hot and hazy Interior. Actually, we've been about thirty to forty days behind our old normal timetable since February. With a lot of surprises thrown in breaking records of thirty or more years right and left during the snowy season and cooler than the summer season.

As to the ice jams and summer fires, that is normal for us in a river and fire ecology in the midst of a watershed, boreal forest ecology. What is new[/i] is the severity of it. It's in a way similar to Yellowstone. They've had floods. They have never had the severity of the flood they're having now.

I grew up in the sixties, the make love not war generation but I wouldn't want to go to a music festival now with all the aches and pains and other issues of being older.

Good morning, it rained during the night and those old aches and pains clued me in before I even looked out a window. It's only going to reach 70 today with brief scattered showers. I plan on settling in with my computer, Tylenol, and coffee close by for the day.

jane

Patricia...that sounds like a perfect way to spend the day!  I'll be doing the same...but tea instead of coffee.

jane

Cottoncandy

Good morning..Patrica and Jane that sounds like what my day will be like...just a update on my son who is treating his lympnode cancer with the chemo pill...so far only side effect is a headache after he takes it..which he relieves it with Tylenol...continued prayers appreciated..Sharon good to read your post...hi to all checking in happy Father's Day to all the dads...have a great day..time for me to get ready for church....

MaryPage

Have been thinking of your son and wanting a wonderful, disease-free outcome for him, and for you all.  I feel your heartache and your hopes.

jane

Darlene...I echo MaryPage's comment...it sounds as if your son has good medical treatment.

This week...as for most of you...is to be a scorcher.

Stay cool and safe!

jane

patricia19

Good morning. The promised intermittent showers never showed yesterday but decided to come in force in the early morning and all day today. This will help with the 298 fires currently. Even in a fire ecology, officials say the tundra fires are worse due to climate change. Some have even smoldered all winter deep in the moss.

Darlene, I agree that it sounds as if your son is getting treatment options and good care.

We were well on our way to a scorcher, Jane, but then we ended up with fires, so the rain was needed.

jane

Those awful fires you have, Patricia, and in the western states here are so frightening...kind of like tornadoes...come and you don't know where they'll turn next.

I just loaded up three partially loaded totes (only partial because that's all I can lift and carry up from the basement) of papers to be shredded at our bank's free shred day on Wednesday.  Our farm neighbors all have "burn barrels" for such stuff...but that's not allowed in the "city limits."  I keep the totes handy all year long and get rid of the old stuff as I clean out files.

I tried a short walk this morning, but the heat and humidity got to me, so it was verrry short! ;)

jane

patricia19

Jane, from what I understand, Germany, Greece, and Spain are also having fires. I wonder what this world will look like in seventy years?

I have never regretted buying my wheeled cart. Of course, I don't have a basement, but it helps take the trash down via the elevators or laundry to the washers.

Good morning I am hjst checking in since I haven't been here for a few day.

I am doing better since my ER visit  on the18th. Saw my primary Dr yesterday for the follow up.  I only qualify fr a defibrillator, type pacemaker. The still want me to go down state to santa Rosa for a possible ablation, That t rip would cost m a small fortune.  I would have to pay $20 per hour for th caregiver to stay with Keith, Plus hotel and food for my DIL and I and gas for the trip. If we took Keith with us theen ther are my two dogs, who would have to be farmed out or boarded.  Gas here is almost $7 a gallon.

jane

Afternoon, Buddies!

Marilyn...glad you got some help at the ER.

Patricia...I have a wheeled mover thing, but couldn't handle it on the basement stairs, but I did get the totes into the car for tomorrow.

It's hot, hot, hot here and I'm staying in and watching the Jan6 Hearings.

Stay safe and cool!

jane

Today was supposed to be cooler, etc.  Uh...92 is not a lot better than 96, but that's just me.😎

I did get a short walk in early this morning, and then I took my "to be shredded" papers to the bank parking lot...no line, so I was in and out before the 11:00 opening!  I stopped for lunch, and I brought half of it home for tonight.  I loaded up a bag with old electronics...old iPad, old cell phones, etc. and took them down to a computer repair place where they recycle those things for free.

Yes, I'm just a whirling dervish of activity....well, an old, very slow dervish!  🤫🥱🥴

patricia19

Jane, you're busier than I've been lately. I haven't done anything physical all week.

maryz

Well, our high today was 99 or 100 - I don't know for sure yet. But all I was out in it was going to the car, from the car to the salon for haircut/mani/pedi, and return. We're not supposed to "cool off" to lower 90s until Friday. I feel so sorry for folks to have to be outside.

Stay cool, Buddies!

Addendum: Watched the weather last night.  Nashville set a new record for the day with a high of 101!

jane

Oh, Mary...this heat is terrible for all of us.

I decided I should make a trip to WalMart this morning for a few groceries, instead of waiting tomorrow after the allergy appt.  I've learned to do these things while I feel good, since the next day can be bad.

So, back and waiting until 2:00 for the hearings to start.

Stay cool and safe!

Good morning from a smoky Interior! The summer is destined to be fiery, with lows in the sixties and highs in the low eighties. Yesterday, I posted some blue skies and clouds in a line. Only four hours later, those blue skies and clouds disappeared, becoming a sea of white and dense smoke. Overnight it rained, and it's back to dense smoke again.

https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=219797

Mary, before climate change, we used to reach 104 in the summers, but we haven't seen that since about 2016. Of course, I haven't seen the winter woes of minus forties through minus sixties either, and not for weeks at a stretch. The coldest it seems to get, it's a day of minus thirty here and there. And a high of eighty-six, which appears to herald fires.

Good morning Jane, I've become a hermit, only venturing out when I have to, or someone comes for me. My balance often goes sideways anymore.

Cottoncandy

Good morning Buddies...I'm like Patrica..becoming a hermit...due to 100 plus every day...so far..we are stage 4 water restrictions as of now...hope everyone has a safe  great weekend....stay cool

SharonE

Marilyn, so sorry to hear of your medical woes. I hope you can get it worked out.

Mary, we had 101 on Tues or Wed also.  I just stay in when it is above 90 or at least just go to & from the car.

Patricia, I liked that quote! The fires and smoke would scare me to death.

The yellowstone floods are awful.

Jane, you seem to get a lot done in spite of your pain in your joints.  I have a small shredder I use and dispose of the shredded items in the trash throughout the year.

Darlene, I'm glad things seem to be going okay for your son.
Unfortunately, we just found out that our daughter, Melanie's cancer has come back and the mass is into the bone. They can't do surgery, or at least not unless they can shrink the mass with radiation & chemo. She just had the biopsy and PET scan this week and the sarcoma board was to meet today to discuss her treatment. It really does not sound good. We really thought she had beaten it, but no such luck. She will be 59 July 8. We have been so distraught this week.

We finally got our bathroom/entry way fixed and it looks great. The whole thing started with a leak a year ago!

I worked on the newsletter yesterday and as soon as I get in a couple more articles, I can get it finished.

About time to get ready to go to Happy Hour and dinner.
Sharon

maryz

Sharon, so sorry to hear about Melanie. We're hoping, with you, for the best possible outcome.

patricia19

I was also very sorry to hear about Melanie. I hope they're able to shrink the tumor or find some other means, Sharon.

As of noon, we're at 341 fires in Alaska (active, smoldering, or in the process of being demobilized).

jane

Sharon...I'm so sorry to hear about Melanie's cancer return.  You KNOW we will all hold her dear in our thoughts and prayers.  Today is our Melanie's birthday.  She'd be about your Melanie's age, but her brain cancer took her when she 46.  Damn Cancer!!!

We're having a rainy, stormy Saturday.  We need the rain and the thunder and lightning  aren't severe.

I'm finishing up my third load of laundry, so then need to fold and put away.

Last night our Friday night group went to a nearby town...and there was a table of 8 adults who were so LOUD...we about lost our minds.  You couldn't hear the person across the table from you for all the loud cackling and screeching!  They'd finished their meal before we arrived and finally the waitress told them they had a reservation coming in and would they move to the bar.  They left.

I don't know if the women had been drinking all day or what, but their voices would drive anyone away.  I told the waitress and hostess they needed to put those people in a back room and close the door.  They agreed.

Stay safe and cool.  I'm with many of you on hibernating...either the hot weather or the nuts walking around with guns on their hips.

Good morning..Sharon so sorry to hear about Mealanie...I will be praying for her and all involved..my son is tolerating the oral chemo so far...breaks my heart to see his struggles...take care everyone....

patricia19

Jane, my Marie, would be fifty now, but she also died of a brain tumor at eighteen in 1991. It is a horrific disease like all cancers. She died on Memorial Day.

jane

Patricia...we all have had our awful confrontations with cancer, haven't we...in person and/or loved ones.
