JACKIE, your new hairstyle looks very nice.  I love the avatar front view as well😘. Yes, I am sure it was expensive but the uplift it has given you makes it worth every amount you had to spend🥰🥰🥰

Thank you, MARYPAGE......I plan on a smooth sailing day, and I wish you one as well😘

Jenny...
.. thank you but far to expensive to use this salon on a regular basis even if they are an award winning salon...my Richard would turn in his grave if he knew how much i had paid...

Jenny, what a lovely way to pay honour to your father...

Jackie, I love it!  And I think it was worth every penny.  Maybe I should state that as worth every pound?  Easy for me to say, right?

Marilyne

Jackie - I think it looks lovely, and definitely worth every cent.   Looks like you have very nice quality hair, and the color is pretty as well!

...thank you but you would probably say i was crazy if you knew how much i had paid for it...isn't it sad that our hair has to grow...

Lovely, lovely haircut!  We all deserve to splurge on ourselves once in awhile!  I usually get my hair permed every six months, that's how long they last with me.  And sometimes I put it off until I look like I just came out of a cave!  I always shudder thinking how big a bite it's going to take from my bank account.  But, hey, hairdressers have to pay the rent and buy food too.  I just went for my very short Summer haircut, which deleted most of the curl/body from the last perm.  It is so darn hot here, I can certainly live with less hair on my neck, over my ears, etc.

I'm hoping most of you are NOT having 100+ degree temps, then adding on that "feels like" temperature, which can reach 115.  When I go outside from the comfortable A/C of my house, the heat of that sun on my head nearly knocks me to my knees. I know Texas weather is HOT in summertime, but this is getting ridiculous. Makes me recall the Summer of 2008 when there were  100 plus "consecutive" days of 100 degree temps.

Stay cool, stay healthy.
Hugs!

CallieOK

Jackie,  I also like your new haircut!!!  Wish mine were as lovely a silver color as yours.  I started out with what I thought was an "elegant" ;D white streak across the front but now it's an all-over" salt and pepper" and I don't want to go through the process to have that changed.
I also get a perm every six months but it grows really fast so I have to have it cut about every 4 weeks

Tome, North of the Red River isn't any cooler!!!!  Wish the weather gurus would stop telling us how many over 100º days we've had in a row.  "Feel like" temps sometimes go as high as 115º.
I just got home from doing a couple of errands and don't plan to stick my nose out the door again today.  (Another reason for not sticking my nose out is reports that dust from Africa is drifting across this area and I start sneezing and sniffling every time I do,  :( )

Hope Everyfriend is having a lovely day.

Copy from Shirley Soda Shoppe posting...

Had a call/answering machine had a call on it.... from Rick/Rammel's son that Rick is in the hospital again. He sounds very concerned but hopefully it is "one of our kids usual concern"...... (their turn to worry, right?). He will keep us posted, really is a sweet person, and pass our thoughts on to Rick. Prayers for Rick (and "little Rickey").

Thank you Shirley and thank you Rick's son for passing this information on to us...Rick will indeed be in my thoughts and prayers...

Marilyne

Good afternoon everyone -  It's been two or three days since I last posted.  I've been stuck in the doldrums for the past couple of days, and just now climbing out.  I looked up the definition of  Doldrums . . . "a gloomy feeling, low spirits or a time of inactivity or stagnation".    Yep, that just about sums it up!  ha ha  ::)

I heard from Jean  (FlaJean) today.  She is doing as well as can be expected, under the circumstances.    She has a great attitude and always seems cheerful and accepting.

Also,  wonderful that  Rick  is feeling better, and will soon be released from the hospital.  I'm grateful to hear that good news, and looking forward to seeing his messages again.

CallieOK

Good Evening,

Marilyne,  I, too, have had one foot in the doldrums and the other one very close.  A big part of it is, of course, concern for Mandi - especially since the first round of treatment raised her liver enzyme level too high and she's had to discontinue treatment until they normalize. She goes to the doctor tomorrow - fingers crossed and prayers being said.

Even so, she insisted that Son, the Three Grands (and 2 'significant others') go ahead with their travel plans that had been made long before her diagnosis.
So the Okies met the New Yorker at the Denver airport last Wednesday and are returning today after "experiencing" Leadville Boom Days and the burro race.  Facebook pix and comments indicate they've all had a fantastic time and I think the break was good for all of them.

Mandi's best friend stayed with her and I know of at least two occasions when other friends brought brunch or dinner.  These groups have always had - as Mandi would say - "a ton of fun" together and I'm sure it's helped to have them around.

So glad to learn (on another forum) that Rick is feeling better and also hope he's released from the hospital ASAP.

Now I need to check Flight Tracker to see how close the family is to their home destinations.

Onward and Upward.

Marilyne

Good afternoon once again.  Hope everyone is doing  reasonably well,  in spite of all sorts of unpleasant circumstances, that seem to be everywhere.
It's difficult to stay upbeat and cheerful, with so many sad and worrisome things going on around us.  Lots of health worries, in our families, and in our S&F family as well ..

Also, the political infighting in DC, has me wondering if we will ever again be,  "One nation, indivisible"?   Not in my lifetime, for sure. Unfortunately, it's getting worse, instead of better.   Then we have the worldwide controversies like Ukraine/Russia, or China/Taiwan.  Now the Palestinians are once again firing rockets into Israel.    These things just never end - but only drag on and on through the years with no apparent solutions in sight.

Sorry for the rant - I guess I'm still swimming in the doldrums - trying to keep my head above water.   ::)

Callie -  I understand how worried you are about Mandi.  It's so puzzling,  as to why so many  young women in their 50's and 60's, are fighting breast cancer . . . and other cancers as well?   I hope that Mandi's enzyme levels will get back to normal so she can continue on with her treatments.    Sounds like the rest of your family had a good time together, enjoying the Leadville Boom Days!  I'm sure that was good for all of them to have a fun break.

I'm lighting a candle on the online candle site for Mandi, as well as for  Jean, and  Rick.   Hoping everyone will be feeling better soon!

JUNEE wishing you all the best on your very Special Day...

" There is no present like the time "

Marilyne

WOW!  Today is Junee's 100th Birthday!  What a fabulous milestone that is!
Junee - hope you see you in here today, so we can wish you a Happy Birthday in person!  :rosegal:    Well, maybe not in person, but it's as close as we can get here in Seniors and Friends!

More good news this morning.  I saw in Soda Shoppe, that there is a possibility that  Rick  will be released from the hospital today.    Here's hoping that that will come true, and that he will be back with us again soon!

Bubble -  Not such good news from you this morning.  I saw your post in SS, that the rockets and shelling continue in Israel, and that the nest of herons, was amongst the casualties.   Hope the sirens remain silent today, and that this attack has ended.

so_P_bubble

Marilyne, a cease fire was signed and I keep my fingers crossed that it will keep for a very long time.

Now we can go back to complain about the heat and humidity!

MaryPage

JUNEE MADE HER CENTURY!  BIG CONGRATULATIONS!

:hb2: HAPPY HAPPY 100TH TO JUNEE!!!:hb2:

You're next, MaryPage  :smitten:

Bubble, I pray every night that our God will enter the hearts of those who want to destroy and hurt others, change their attitude and inspire us all to live in peace and harmony.

Marilyne,  Mandi's Dad had breast cancer.  All three daughters were tested for the "gene" and Mandi was the only one who inherited it.  She had a double mastectomy 11 years ago and was on meds for 6 years until the "all clear".
This return was very unexpected - and is rather wide-spread.  Unfortunately, the report yesterday was "no change on enzyme level" so she's still "on hold" for starting treatments.

So far, this morning has been better than I expected.  The a/c stopped about the time I was ready to retire.  Even the circulating fan wouldn't come on.  Fortunately, rain last evening had cooled the temps so that ceiling fans kept things comfortable all night.
I called my a/c company first thing this morning and, Glory Be!, someone was here at 9:30.
He discovered our hard water residue had clogged the drainage pipe in the attic - cleared it - and Voila!  Problem fixed!
No charge because I have an annual contract for heat/air and - since no parts were needed - there was no service call fee.

Repairman to replace broken cords on the Roman blinds on my windows should be here shortly.  Three had snapped but I'm having all 5 replaced.

Then #1 son is coming for lunch and a "catch-up" visit about the Colorado trip and how Mandi is feeling.

Whew!  More activity than I've had in quite a long time.

Good morning Jackie, many thanks for your beautiful Birthday card.  I have really enjoyed watching you settle in to your new abode, friends and help and send my good wishes for many years to come.  I went out yesterday to meet with family and had a great day.  Started with many of the young carers here coming in to see me with good wishes and lovely flowers. Today, I admit is a recovery day.  Keep as well as you can, Jackie.  I received a beautiful card from The
Queen, with a picture of her and others, Governor General,Primeminister etc.
Keep well, love from Aussie.   June

Hi Marilyn have had much difficult in finding place to reply to you but here I am.  Thank you for your message.  It was a great day. I went out to lunch with 6 members of family . In the morning girls who are carers here came in. Was really a great day and many messages to reply to.  Looks different in here.  Hope you are out of the doldrums but know only too well that it happens but tomorrow is another day.

Hi to Callie, sorry to hear of sickness in family and hope for the best.  Remember well first meeting you in Oklahoma when returning from New Orleans and Ginnie's daughter prepared a beautiful dinner.  Many not with us now but are fondly remembered. I am in Aged Care.  Had a wonderful day yesterday and starting a New Year today.😅
Mary Page so pleased you are back after some set backs. Keep well.
Know this is the wrong place but hope Maryz reads this. Wish her well in her place of abode.
Have lost some of my skills on the computer but I do try to read the news on here.

Email sent to me from Rick ( Rammel )

Jackie,

Finally back in my messy but more than welcome home. I was released from the hospital about 6:30 last night, and home by 7:00.  It's good to be home but I'm still feeling weak and a bit unsteady - just have to go a bit slow moving around.
To save myself some effort I'm going to use this message for multiple uses - not meant to slight anyone but the ambition I have is low.
I just did a quick run through S&F and want to thank all of my S&F friends for their nice comments (Helps peak ones attitude and outlook). My son doesn't know the ins and outs of how S&F runs so I think he did pretty good.
I will be looking into S&F and trying to catch up, but being my usual self probably not a big poster. Hospital dictates visiting Primary Care Doc and a Cardiologist within a week or two. The Cardiologist is not a new thing (I see him ongoing) but they picked up on something and want me to follow up.
Again ---a big THANK YOU
Rick
