MarsGal

Thanks so much, Patricia, for chasing down the mystery of the missing.

Marilyne

Patricia,  Thanks for letting everyone know about Barb and Joanne (Tome).  I tried  to contact both of them, but failed.  The situation with Barb sounds serious, so hoping she will be okay?

Ciaobella,  Our air quality is bad too.  Lots of wildfires going on here in
CA, coming from three different directions, so the dirty air will continue on, until the fires are under control, and a good ocean breeze kicks in. Until then, it's best to stay inside.

MarsGal,  I left you a message in Library~Bookshelf.

Good to know, said on our tv news that today is " world chocolate day " so the rest of the year i am assuming chocolate is off our list....Just who thinks these days up?  ::)

Trying to think of her name but we once had a female member, her name escapes me as i think she used a couple of different avatar names, although Molly is one that springs to mind...She had a Turkish husband...If i remember he was a teacher at a school or university, so they had to live separately, she in America, he in Turkey, hope i have got my facts right...Oh how she loved her " Hershey " chocolate bars, i so remember we had some laughs on here over her love for " Hersheys "...She was such a lovely person...

Now look out for Wednesday July 23rd, " national gorgeous grandma day "

Marilyne

Yes Jackie, I too have wondered who's in charge of thinking up these special days like "World Chocolate Day"?   One I remember here that caught on for a few years and then faded away, was - "Take Your Daughter To Work Day", mostly aimed at fathers.  I think this was back in the 80's or 90's?  "National Gorgeous Grandma Day" on the 23rd?  Something tells me that one will not blossom into a major holiday?   ::)

Yes, I also remember Molly.  I think she lived in Washington DC, where she had formerly worked? I recall her husband being from Egypt?  He was a college professor there, and only came to the US a few times a year to visit her.  She wrote interesting messages in lots of the discussions here in S&F, for quite a long time.  Then she disappeared, with  no explanation, and never returned?

phyllis

Marilynn, Molly was a professor at one of the DC universities and that is where she met and married a professor from Egypt. He did not want to leave his family or his university  position  in Egypt but married Molly so he could travel back and forth without going through the requirements set by immigration officials.  Part of the agreement was that he could live and work in Egypt but was also required to live with Molly for a period of time each year to retain his USA immigration status.  When she retired from teaching she moved to N.C. to be near her son from  previous  marriage,  who was an army chaplain here at Ft. Bragg.  She moved to a town near Charlotte.  She hadn't been here very long when she became ill with what I think was a blood infection and died.  Can't be sure if that caused her death but seem to remember that is what it was.  She was an interesting person and wrote very interesting posts that I always liked reading.

Marilyne...

...yes you are right, Egypt not Turkey..I think someone once posted she had passed away...I vaguely remember her posting of falling on hard flooring inside a church, something about near the baptismal font, whether that was anything that led to her death afterwards...Yes her posts were very interesting..

patricia19

Phyllis, thanks for the information about Molly. I remember her just seeming to disappear and while I didn't know her or her circumstances well, I had always enjoyed her posts.

MarsGal

Phyllis, I am sorry to hear that Molly passed. I hadn't heard. I always enjoyed her posts.

Well, darn. The dentist found a cavity this morning when I went for my teeth cleaning and check-up. So it is back to the dentist on Wednesday.

It is hazy sun and partly cloudy. Right now, Microsoft's weather says it is 87oF and the humidity is at 63%. It felt like a rather pleasant drive this morning.

The new sheets that arrived yesterday are now ready for me to put on the bed. I don't think my back is going to like it since the mattress is way heavier than I expected. When I was looking at bed wedges last night I ran across a set of sheet fasteners I think might help keep the sheets in place. Now, how am I going to coordinate putting those on while holding a way heavy mattress? What I need is a car-jack kind of thing to lift the mattress.

MG, Excellent! You should copy right that idea and sell it! You could make a mint! 😁

patricia19

MG, do you have a sofa cushion or something you could slide under the mattress with one hand or use your knees to push after lifting, to hold a space?

Bubble, thank you for posting the picture of Molly and her husband Mohamed.  I remember that I also had that picture, and probably still have it saved in one of my photo folders?  I also have a pic of our member from  The Isle of Man.  I can't recall his name right now, but he posted in the Pop Music Quiz, as well as the other Trivia Quizzes.

Rick, YES!   Kelly it was, plus a few other alternate names that he used.

Marilyne,
QuoteThe situation with Barb sounds serious, so hoping she will be okay?

Just would like to let everyone know that I just spoke with Barb through messenger and she said the weather has been causing her all sorts of havoc with her lungs.  She is about 2 and a half hours from the flooding so is safe.  Her son and daughter in law are coming for a visit this week and she said once she is feeling better, she will be back.

Good to hear Tome will be back again once she has been able to purchase a new computer.

Chocolate Day!!!  I think every day is for me.  lol
Ciao for now~

patricia19

I used to be a glutton for snickers, eating several of the mini ones during the week. Now, however, they are so full of chemicals that I can no longer eat commercial chocolate products.

OnLonelyMountain

LOL, chocolate is a major food group for me and prescribed by 2 of my doctors. Organic, no additives, of course. Its one of the highest plant sources of methyl donors. 😋

90°F, too hot for me!

Don't put chocolate in your pocket ---- at least not today.  We made it to 96°. TG for the invention of A/C.

I kept up with Kelly via email maybe twice a year for a while, but I haven't heard, nor have I sent anything for several years now.

I discovered that there are such things as mattress lifters, including a mattress jack (expensive). Because my bed sideboard is two or three inches above the slats, None of those within my price range will work. Be that as it may, I actually got a bit of strength yesterday and got the sheets straightened out. It really helps to put them right edge on.

OnLonelyMountain

MG, I trained Rosie (SD) to help me make the bed years ago. Now we're both too old/weak. My husband insisted we had to have a kingsize mattress. I told him I couldn't turn it myself, back before I got injured. He swore he'd help me. He did; one time. When I eventually got Rosie, she helped. If he didn't like teeth marks he should have helped. :knuppel2:

Yesterday while I answered a mail at my desk, I had two small dark chocolate squares waiting on a paper on top of a book.  When I looked up, there was a brown puddle running down the book!!! It's hot here.

OnLonelyMountain

Good Morning,
Boy was it a miserable night! I got 1 hour of sleep. It was sweltering in the RV, and took forever to cool off. I had all the vents open. All of us were miserable. It finally cooled off and we were able to sleep. Then Rosie started gagging and wretching around 2:30. Poor old girl. I got up and ket her out. I couldn't get back to sleep. The wind yesterday afternoon broke off a large, dead tree top that is now caught and hanging over Kato's zone. I'm moving his tie-out. We're expecting gusts to 33 m.p.h. Starting at 10:00. If that doesn't bring it down I'll have to fall the tree. Its a much larger tree and with the snag, way above my skill set. Pray it comes down safely on its own, please?

Marilyne

OLM,  I hope you call someone today to take down that tree, or at least remove the branch for you . . . please don't try to do it your self!  :yikes:    You didn't say what kind of tree it is?  I think you said your property is not high elevation, so could be  a number of different trees.  Keep us posted on what you decided.

Nothing happening around here of any interest.  The weather has been cool and and windy the past couple of days, but is supposed to go up into the 80's today, and then HOT on Friday.  I won t complain, as we have had mild weather all Summer so far.

Bubble,  definitely not hot enough here to melt chocolate!  As the temperature rises, I'll place a few chocolate squares in strategic place in the house, and see what happens!

OLM,  speaking of chocolate reminds me:  where do you get your organic chocolate?  I've ordered from Harry & David in Medford, OR,  and find that their organic chocolate is good, but I'd like to try others as well.

OnLonelyMountain

Marilyne, I didn't know Harry and David had organic chocolate! Thank you! I get mine from a number of online sources. Theochocolate, Hu, Chocolove organic dark. The Hu is available at many Safeways and health food stores. I used to get Chocolove from a health food store in Corvallis but they stopped carrying the organic for awhile. Then I never went to Corvallis anymore. I used to get them from Amazon, but now all the shipping dept use Axe stinking deoderant or sanitizer. Vitacost sometimes carries them. I've tried others, but I don't like them as well.

I can't hire it done. Toxic fumes. If the wind will bring down the top, It should be safer. I'll wait until tomorrow. I'll talk to Ron. He may have time to fall it. He's suffering caregiver burn out and is doing things right now to refresh himself. So I'm trying not to put everything on him.  :P

Marilyne

Hi and welcome to everyone looking in today!  :hello:   Cool and comfortable 50's this morning early, but supposed to be in the low 90's later today.  Hoping to get out to Sprouts, later this afternoon, but not sure yet - it's a long drive from here.

OLM - If I go to Sprouts, I'll look for the organic chocolate you recommended.  We have a Whole Foods Mkt right here in town, very close, but it's a small store, and their selection is limited on all items, but especially things like candy.

Harry & David was a family owned and operated company near Medford, for many many years.  Both Harry & David,  died a number of years ago, and soon after, the younger generation of family,  sold out to a larger company, etc.  The same old story!  ::)   H&D were proud of their organic chocolate and all of the orchards where they got their fruit.  Everything was marked organic.   I don't know if that still applies?
I ordered assorted boxes of chocolates last Christmas for us, and for gift giving. Everything tasted just as good as always, but I don't know if they're still organic?  It probably says on the online store?

Hoping that Ron will arrive today or tomorrow and take care of the tree branch?

OnLonelyMountain

Good morning Marilyne,
I'll certainly check out their website.😋 I forgot to tell you that its a Ponderosa Pine top. I live in the mountains. Its quite big and qualifies as a "widow maker." I wish I could upload the pic I took. I don't expect Ron until this weekend. We're again having gusting winds from storm fronts. Maybe it will get blown down yet. If it does I can leave the trunk for Ron to take down. Didn't think of that before :idiot2: To preoccupied with the safety issues.

Sprouse as In "Sproutz Ritz?"All those closed around us decades ago. It was a good store.
